- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: You got to have a purpose, have a vision.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: I was very fortunate that I stumbled on my vision.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, as you know, I was born in 1947 in Austria after the Second World War.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I didn't really like Austria when I grew up.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: I couldn't wait to get out of there.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: I couldn't see myself becoming a farmer
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: Even though my parents wanted me to stay there and have a normal life, the father wanted me to become a police officer like he was.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: My mother wanted me just to stay there and marry a girl with an aim of hidey, hopefully, and have a bunch of kids and run around like the fun trap family in the sound of music.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: But that was their vision, not mine.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: My vision was totally different.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: I felt that I was born for something special for something unique, for something big.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: Then one day I went to school, I remember I was 11 years old, and they showed a documentary about America.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: And they showed this documentary, the huge skyscrapers, the high rises, the huge bridges, the six-lane freeways, the huge cars with the wings sticking out, and all of this stuff in the same way that's where I want to be.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: How I don't want to be around here with the little farmhouses and the little buildings, everything is old, I want to be an America.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_00]: One day after school I walked by a store in Grats, which was called Brul.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: And it was the only store that really sold kind of American stuff.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: So one day they had jeans there, American jeans, and then they had the poor walker.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: then had an expander and some barbells and some dumbbells and exercise bench in the window.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: So I went inside and I looked around and looked at this stuff and then I saw magazine.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: I saw body-building magazine that had rich park on the cover.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: Rich park was then a three-time Mr. Universe and I saw him
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: Howm Reg Park, Mr. Universe, became the Hercules star.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: That's what the cover story was all about.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: So I looked at the cover and the submissive, I got to get this magazine.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I bought the magazine, I took it home and I read it over and over from the front page to the back.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: It had everything in there, how he trained, how he was working out in Leeds, England.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: In the factory town, how he worked at every day for three-four hours and became the strongest man of Europe, and how he won Mr. Europe, Mr. Great Britain, and then eventually, Mr. Universe.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_00]: And how he won the second Mr. Universe, and the third Mr. Universe, and how he was discovered to play the starring role in Hercules.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: This is exactly what I want to do.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: I want to become a bodybuilding champion just like Rich Park.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: I want to get into movies just like Rich Park.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: And I want to make millions of dollars and be rich in famous.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: Just like Rich Park.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_00]: 74% hate their job in America.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: Now this is not much different when you come to Europe.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: The majority of people don't like what they're doing.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: Because they're really not doing it because they didn't have a goal and they'd follow this goal.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: They're just aimlessly drift around and overset and there's a job opening so they get the job because you have to work.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: But then when you work, it's a chore.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's work.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's not fun.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_00]: So if you think about only a quarter of the people really enjoy what they're doing in life, that is unbelievable if you think about it.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's like a medical student that studies and knows you want to become a doctor.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: You know where to go.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: So I knew where to go.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: So people always ask me, when there's so many gym in the pumping iron days, they say, why is it that you're working out so hard?
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: Five hours a day, six hours a day and you have always a smile in your face.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: The others are working out just as hard as you do and they look sour in the face.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: Why is that?
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: In the told people all the time I said, because to me, I am shooting for gold.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: In front of Mr. Mr. Universe title.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: So every rep that I do gets me closer to accomplishing that gold to make this gold this vision turning the reality.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: every single set that I do, every repetition, every weight of the lift we get missed at closer to turn this goal in the reality.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: So I couldn't wait to do another 500 pound squat.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: I couldn't wait to do another 500 pound bench press.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: I couldn't wait to do another 2,000 reps of sit ups.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: I couldn't wait for the next exercise.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: For the next half hour of posing and order kind of things that you have to do to be a champion.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: In the age of 20, with the age of 20, I went to London and I won the Mr. Universe Candace as the youngest Mr. Universe Ever.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: And it was because I had a goal.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_00]: Visualizing a goal and going after it makes it fun.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to have a purpose no matter what you're doing life.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to have a purpose.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: The told me is, and you accent, even if you reduce all your body weight
- 6:14[SPEAKER_00]: You accent, as if you accent them and you will go give people a coup spumps, with the German accent.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: It will get people to creeps, they will get scared.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_00]: This is no one in Hollywood ever has become a leading man that had an accent.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't happen.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: People in America want to hear their actors talk like John Wayne, or like Bird Reynolds,
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: don't listen to the Naysayers, everything I ever did, the thing that they heard out of people's mouth was, that's impossible.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: That can't be done, or no.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: I remember when I want to be a bodybuilding champion, including my parents and everyone else around me, so this is impossible.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: When they become a ski champion, that's what they do in Austria, or basically champion, they do some track and field.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: You can't be a bodybuilding champion.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: That is exactly what I heard, and of course I proved to the people that they can't be done.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_00]: So whenever someone said to me, it can't be done, I heard, it can't be done.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: When they say, no, I heard yes.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: And when they say this impossible, I heard it is possible.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: When you start doubting yourself, that's very dangerous.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: Because now what you're basically saying is, is that if my plan doesn't work, I have a fallback plan, I have a plan B.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: And that means that you start thinking about plan B, and every thought that you put into plan B,
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: You're taking away now that thought and that energy from Plan A.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: And it's very important to understand that we function better if there is no safety net, because Plan B becomes a safety net.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: It says that if I fail, then I fall and I get picked up and I have something else there that will protect me.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_00]: And that's not good.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_00]: because people perform better when there's no safety net.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: People perform better in sports and everything else if you don't have a plan B. I'm telling you, I've never ever had a plan B.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: I said, I made a full commitment that I'm going to go and be a party building champion.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: I made a full commitment that I'm going to be in America.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_00]: I made a full commitment that I'm going to get in the show business and I'm going to be a leading man.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: No matter what it takes, I would do the work.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: I would do the work over and over and over and delegate it.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: And the same was in politics and everything like that.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: So to me, it is very dangerous to have a plan B because you're cutting yourself off from the chance of really succeeding.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: And the reason one of the main reasons why people want to have a plan B is because they have worried about failing.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_00]: What is if I fail, then I don't have anything else?
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: Well, let me tell you something, don't be afraid of failing because there's nothing wrong with failing.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: You have to fail in order to climb that ladder.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: There's no one that doesn't fail.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: Michael Jordan said in one of his interviews, when they said, you are unbelievable the greatest basketball player of all times.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, tell me about that, and he says, well, you're just mentioning the successes.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: But it says, for me, to become the greatest basketball player, I missed 9,000 shots.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_00]: when I was playing basketball at the NBA Games.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_00]: So during this games that he was so successful, he missed 9,000 shots.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: Does it make him a failure?
- 10:22[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: He's one of the greatest basketball players at four times, but he failed 9,000 times.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: Do you get it?
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: Be all fail.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's okay.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: What is not the case that when you fail, you stay down, whoever stays down is a loser.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: And winners who fail and get up, fail and get up, fail and get up.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: You always get up.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: That is a winner.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: That is a winner.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: I failed in bodybuilding, I lost bodybuilding competitions, I lost powerlifting competitions, I lost weightlifting competitions, I had movies that went in the toilet and that were terrible and got the worst reviews.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_00]: And in politics, I remember, I had many of the initiatives and the ballot and we lost my approval rating in California
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: and then it went back up again and then they won again the government's ship.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, we all lose, we all have lost us, that's okay and this is why I say don't be worried about losing because when you're afraid of losing then you get frozen, you get stiff, you're not relaxed, you got to be in order to perform well in anything if it's in boxing or if it is on your job or with your thinking is only happening when you're relaxed.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: So, relax, it's okay to fail, let's just go all out and give it everything that you got.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_00]: That's what it is all about.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: So, don't be afraid to fail.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: I believe that I can be a leading man.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: I believe that I could be another D&D's move or another bird Reynolds or another worm baby or whatever those characters were Charles Branson and so on.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: I believe that I could be those people.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: I said, there's enough room and that ladder that I can fit up there and I look back again and learn from what I learned in sports.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: In my case, in bodybuilding, it's all about the hard work that you put in.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: And after it had come on the barbarian that directs at the press conference said to the press, he said to the press, if we wouldn't have had honored, we would have had to build one.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: The very body that they said can never be sold because the time is long, a few years later, I'm doing Conan the Biberian, and it was the number one hit at the box office when they came out in the summer of 82.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_00]: Think about that, and the director says, if we wouldn't have had his body, we would have had to build one.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_00]: So all of a sudden, my body became an asset, not a liability.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: And the same thing was with Terminator after we were finished filming Terminator, Jim Cameron said to the press, if Arnold wouldn't have had that accent and talk like a machine, I think the movie wouldn't have worked.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: So think about that, the body and the accent that they attacked was an asset.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: But I didn't listen to those losers.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't listen to them at all.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_00]: Work your ass off.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_00]: There is no magic bill.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: There is no magic out there.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: You cannot get around.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_00]: You have to work and work and work in Muhammad Ali.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: Worked his butt off.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_00]: And I saw it firsthand.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_00]: that was there in the gym when he was working out and he was doing sit-ups.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: And they asked him, how many sit-ups do you do?
- 14:33[SPEAKER_00]: And he said, I don't start counting until it hurts.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: That is working hard.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_00]: And so you can't get around the hard record, it doesn't matter who it is.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's a matter of, I believe, for the Ted Turner said,
- 14:55[SPEAKER_00]: in early early the rise, work like hell and advertise.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: So you work your ass off and then you let the world know about your work.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_00]: That's what it is all about.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_00]: Let people know if you have a company, if you have a movie, if you do as sports, work your ass off, but then advertise and let everyone know.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: Imagine if you work on the business and some business that you want to develop every day for an hour.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_00]: Imagine how far the along you will go and get.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: So it drives me nuts because we have, when people say it be done after time, we have 24 hours a day.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_00]: We sleep six hours a day.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_00]: So it gives you still 18 hours.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_00]: The average person grows around 8 to 10 hours.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_00]: So let's assume it's 10 hours.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: So we have 8 hours left.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: Then you travel around an hour a day.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe two hours a day.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: So now you're still six hours left.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: So what do you do with these six hours?
- 16:01[SPEAKER_00]: But you can see how much time there is available if you organize your day.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_00]: So you got to work hard.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, let me tell you something, when I went to America, I went to college, I went and worked out five hours a day and I was working on construction,
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: because in those days in body building there was no money.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't even have the money for food supplements or anything.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: So I had to go to work.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_00]: So I worked in construction.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: I went to college.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: I worked out in the gym and at night from 8 o'clock at night to 12 midnight.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: I went to acting class four times a week.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: Said it all of that.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_00]: There was not one single minute that I wasted.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_00]: and this is why I'm standing here today.
