Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You don't want to wait until it's like Dany, she
- 0:01Speaker 1: fell off, so she left. I think you want to
- 0:04Speaker 1: leave when you're here and you can, you know, get
- 0:07Speaker 1: the things that you want. And so I had even
- 0:10Speaker 1: before the vangemic, like don't don't everybody quit your job now?
- 0:13Speaker 1: But no, no, or what happened to make it way away?
- 0:20Speaker 1: Angela yet and now you're going to start with But
- 0:26Speaker 1: I think the way that I am, like even I
- 0:27Speaker 1: was as serious for six years before I came over
- 0:30Speaker 1: to iHeart where it was clear channel and the show
- 0:34Speaker 1: was doing really well at the time, I was, Yeah,
- 0:38Speaker 1: I always think it's good to leave when things are
- 0:39Speaker 1: doing really well and not when they're not. It's just
- 0:42Speaker 1: to put that out there, like, as soon as you're
- 0:44Speaker 1: really comfortable things are doing well, that's the time it is.
- 0:47Speaker 1: You don't want to wait until it's like Dany she
- 0:49Speaker 1: fell off, so she left. I think you want to
- 0:51Speaker 1: leave when you're here and you can, you know, get
- 0:54Speaker 1: the things that you want. And so I had even
- 0:57Speaker 1: before the vangemic, like don't when everybody quit your job now,
- 1:01Speaker 1: but no, no, we're smelling for sure. But I had,
- 1:07Speaker 1: even before the pandemic been in conversations about like doing
- 1:10Speaker 1: my own show because I came from having my own
- 1:12Speaker 1: show and then I had lip service, so I always
- 1:14Speaker 1: wanted to go back to having my own show. And
- 1:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna be honest, I hate it getting up so
- 1:18Speaker 1: early in the morning. What times y'all have to wait?
- 1:21Speaker 1: I will make up at four am. And when I
- 1:23Speaker 1: tell you, my life was like miserable just from that.
- 1:27Speaker 1: It was nice to be done with work early, but
- 1:30Speaker 1: it's like just really difficult. And you did that ten years.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I did that for twelve years years. What do you
- 1:36Speaker 1: do like after you get off work? Like what did
- 1:38Speaker 1: what did your day look like? Oh? Man, I mean
- 1:41Speaker 1: and that's when the day starts, right, like when you
- 1:43Speaker 1: get be going back to sleep, Yeah, it's impossible. And
- 1:47Speaker 1: then sometimes like you have to there's stuff you have
- 1:49Speaker 1: to do in the evening or meetings or dinners, so
- 1:52Speaker 1: now you got to go home and come back, you
- 1:54Speaker 1: know what I mean, And it's really annoying. And so
- 1:57Speaker 1: it was just a It's great because sometimes I'll be like,
- 2:00Speaker 1: I'm not doing anything after the show today. I would
- 2:02Speaker 1: like go to the beach and stuff like that in
- 2:04Speaker 1: the summer. But it just was hard and I just
- 2:08Speaker 1: knew that I didn't want to keep on doing that.
- 2:09Speaker 1: So I had already been talking to iHeart about getting
- 2:13Speaker 1: my own show. You know, behind the scenes, we were
- 2:16Speaker 1: having conversations, and I just didn't know what that was
- 2:18Speaker 1: gonna look like. At first, it was like, Okay, maybe
- 2:21Speaker 1: we'll do something. Because the way that I look at
- 2:23Speaker 1: things is if you put me in a position, I'm
- 2:25Speaker 1: gonna make it work somehow and something more is gonna
- 2:28Speaker 1: come out of it. So I was like, if I
- 2:30Speaker 1: got to stay on the breakfast club and do weekends
- 2:33Speaker 1: and grind it out, I always act like I've never
- 2:36Speaker 1: been here before and I'm starting from scratch, and I
- 2:38Speaker 1: was like, I will grind it out, I'll do weekends,
- 2:40Speaker 1: I'll do not like what y'all need me to do.
- 2:42Speaker 1: I just want to start transitioning into that. And after
- 2:45Speaker 1: the pandemic, well it was kind of during the pandemic.
- 2:48Speaker 1: I sat down with my boss with THEA. Hey them
- 2:53Speaker 1: our boss right right, and she called me and I'll
- 2:57Speaker 1: never forget. Like my agent first was like, look, you're
- 3:01Speaker 1: going to talk to THEA today, and I just I'm
- 3:04Speaker 1: gonna let y'all talk, but just look at this as
- 3:07Speaker 1: a good thing because I also feel like that time slot,
- 3:11Speaker 1: you know, mornings are a big time slot, So moving
- 3:14Speaker 1: from mornings to another time slot, especially like right after,
- 3:18Speaker 1: that's not considered so content heavy. Sometimes people won't look
- 3:21Speaker 1: at that as like a that's not necessarily yeah, it's
- 3:25Speaker 1: not like an upward move, but having your own show is,
- 3:28Speaker 1: you know. And so I really wanted something that was
- 3:31Speaker 1: mine that I could curate. And then I think during
- 3:34Speaker 1: the pandemic, people's listening have has changed so much that
- 3:37Speaker 1: it made it something that they wanted to really like
- 3:39Speaker 1: Beef Up and then podcasting. Podcasting change the game a
- 3:42Speaker 1: lot too. A lot of times people will listen to
- 3:45Speaker 1: the podcast but not the show live
