- 0:13Hello! Welcome back to Just Be True, a soul -led
- 0:18podcast. This podcast was born from the deep
- 0:21desire to live authentically, to strip away the
- 0:24mask and expectations, in the old stories and
- 0:28remember who we truly are. Each episode will
- 0:32explore what it means to live in harmony with
- 0:35your soul's truth through real conversations,
- 0:39intuitive guidance, and powerful moments of reflection.
- 0:44I'm Summer, your host, and I'm thrilled you are
- 0:47here today. So this week's theme, Your Power
- 0:52Doesn't Need Permission. This came to me in a
- 0:56very unexpected way. I had originally planned
- 1:00to talk about family dynamics, the patterns that
- 1:04quietly take more than what they give, but after
- 1:07a vivid dream and a moment of reflection, the
- 1:10message shifted. And so I've learned to trust
- 1:14these moments. They always have a purpose and
- 1:16a reason. And so what came through wasn't about
- 1:20the situation itself. It was more about where
- 1:23our power lives inside of it, right? Inside of
- 1:27a situation and inside of ourselves. So what
- 1:35does it mean to own your power and what does
- 1:40it actually look like? So owning your power isn't
- 1:46about confrontation. It's about presence. It
- 1:51shows up in everyday moments, the kind we don't
- 1:56always recognize as turning point. It looks like
- 2:02being in a conversation where you normally would
- 2:05explain yourself and you choose not to. It looks
- 2:11like feeling that familiar knot in your stomach
- 2:15and finally listening to what it tells you. It
- 2:22looks like realizing you've been accommodating
- 2:26something that doesn't feel right. And shouldn't
- 2:32be deciding to stop. You know, I know this. I
- 2:39have actually lived this. And recently I have
- 2:43observed others living this. There are moments
- 2:49when it would be easier to stay quiet I know
- 2:53easier just to walk away and just keep it to
- 2:55yourself Right to keep the peace to avoid the
- 3:01discomfort that comes from Honesty from speaking
- 3:05up and from staying in your ground But every
- 3:09time I ignore that inner nudge I could feel it
- 3:12somewhere in my body and my energy and in that
- 3:16subtle sense of disconnection from myself. And
- 3:25when we disconnect from ourselves and we're not
- 3:27sticking in our power we could feel sick at our
- 3:30stomach, we could feel a tightness in our chest,
- 3:34we could feel a heaviness in our shoulders, you
- 3:38know, or a heavy sense of dread. And owning your
- 3:43power often begins right there. When you choose
- 3:47not to abandon yourself Realizing that The sensations
- 3:54that you're feeling in your body or that noise
- 3:57that's going on inside of you That's saying speak
- 4:00up say no do more do less right? So you start
- 4:06owning yourself And you're choosing not to abandon
- 4:11What is right? Owning your power can show up
- 4:17many different ways. Not responding right away
- 4:23when someone pushes you for an answer. You can
- 4:26easily say, hey, I need some time to think about
- 4:29this, instead of giving them automatic care.
- 4:33I mean, even today, someone asks, hey, do you
- 4:36want to do, they wanted me to do something for
- 4:412026. and bringing in the new year and holding
- 4:45like a group event. I'm like, you know what?
- 4:48I really need some time to think about this.
- 4:51What are you visioning for this? And let me decide.
- 4:56You know, so, you know, and I'm still sitting
- 4:58on the fence about like I really haven't quite
- 5:00made up my mind yet. And guess what? They're
- 5:03not gonna get an answer until I make up my mind.
- 5:07Right? I'm not giving an automatic yes. I'm not
- 5:10committing myself to something that I may not
- 5:12be truly ready to commit myself to. And it's
- 5:15perfectly okay to say no or say, you know, let
- 5:20me think about it and get back to you, right?
- 5:26You know, you may feel that not giving an automatic
- 5:30yes is going to disappoint someone and is perfectly
- 5:35okay to let them be disappointed, right? It's
- 5:40better than you rushing in to fix a situation
- 5:43If you're not You know responding right away
- 5:48Because you need time You know to think about
- 5:53it or take into considerations You're doing justice
- 5:57to yourself and if they're disappointed that's
- 6:02their problem right that comes from Their own
- 6:09inner issues that they may have. Right? You're
- 6:12not responsible for other people's feelings or
- 6:15their emotions. You know, that's completely theirs
- 6:20to own. So if they're being disappointed because
- 6:24you can't give them an answer right away, they
- 6:27need to look at themselves. And they need to
- 6:32determine where that disappointment is coming
- 6:33from, not to push it back on you. Right it's
- 6:38also perfectly okay to choose rest Right and
- 6:43to not do something Because you don't always
- 6:51have to like do do do many times The guilt that
- 6:57comes from us saying no You know that guilt comes
- 7:01from our past and the conditions in which we
- 7:05have experienced Or it's usually the conditions
- 7:09of other people's expectations that they put
- 7:11on us. And the only expectations that you have
- 7:15to live up to are your own. Those that you choose
- 7:19to honor. And I've mentioned it before and I'll
- 7:22probably mention it a million different times.
- 7:25It is perfectly fine to put yourself first. You
- 7:29do not have to live up to other people's expectations.
- 7:35Right? So, and I know when you tell somebody
- 7:40no, or you've been like, you know, give me some
- 7:43time to think about it, and you're not immediately
- 7:46responding. When you first start doing this,
- 7:49it can feel extremely uncomfortable. Especially
- 7:53if you spent years, you know, doing for others,
- 7:57you spent years being the one who would adjust
- 7:59and change your schedules and smooth things over
- 8:02to make others happy. You know and that's because
- 8:08you've shared too much of yourself and many a
- 8:11times you've probably shared yourself pretty
- 8:14thin To where you felt that you were I'm overstressed
- 8:18overworked over committed You know, so here's
- 8:23the important thing that I want to know Just
- 8:27because someone is unhappy with your boundaries
- 8:30that you've said does not mean that your boundaries
- 8:34wrong And when you begin to own your power, not
- 8:43everybody is going to like it. I'm telling you.
- 8:47And the thing that's going to be most impacted
- 8:49are your close relationships. So whether it's
- 8:52family, friends, coworkers, these long standing
- 8:58dynamics, or these roles that you've always been
- 9:01playing, people are going to notice the change.
- 9:06They might start questioning your new choices.
- 9:11You might have a subtle guilt or pressure start
- 9:15creeping in, right? Because you're not doing
- 9:18or you're saying no or you're stepping into your
- 9:21boundaries and owning what is rightfully yours,
- 9:24right? And that unfamiliar urge to explain or
- 9:32justify or soften your truth You don't have to
- 9:39do it and people are going to want you to do
- 9:42it and it's perfectly okay to walk away from
- 9:45that. Because owning your power does not require
- 9:52explanation. The only thing it requires is your
- 9:57alignment. Your alignment with yourself, your
- 10:01higher self, and your inner power. That's the
- 10:04only thing that is required. You owe no one an
- 10:11exclamation for your self -care, your self boundaries,
- 10:16only your truth. And when you stand rooted in
- 10:21yourself, whether it's quietly or loud and proud,
- 10:29a dynamic shift starts taking place. not because
- 10:33you're forcing it, but because you're showing
- 10:36up differently. You learn to be comfortable with
- 10:40these shifts and to sit with them and own the
- 10:45power that you have in them. Because this shift
- 10:49is important. This shift allows you to own truly
- 10:55everything about you and makes you feel empowered.
- 10:59It's more about the feeling than the ownership
- 11:01of that empowerment, which is really most important.
- 11:05And there's going to be times when it's going
- 11:07to be really challenging. And through observation,
- 11:12I've noticed that this can be very hard when
- 11:16you're being gaslighted. So I've observed how
- 11:22subtle and not so subtle gaslighting can cause
- 11:27people to feel crazy. For trusting what they
- 11:31sense and know to be true You know, I mean how
- 11:36many times if you've been in a situation where
- 11:38you know something's true But then there's someone
- 11:41on the other side of that is telling you no,
- 11:44that's not right. It's this and that And over
- 11:48time this can quietly erode your self -trust
- 11:52and can plant seeds of doubt that Where clarity
- 11:58once lived? I mean, and this can happen in just
- 12:02a few short moments, or it can happen over a
- 12:05period of time. Depending on the situation, depending
- 12:10on who you're working with, or who you're dealing
- 12:12with in this, right, and how they're showing
- 12:16up, you know, and how you're standing in your
- 12:20own truth. Owning your power begins with recognizing
- 12:24that your experience is valid. And that self
- 12:28-doubt is often learned and not inherited. So
- 12:35in other words, like if you're getting that self
- 12:38-doubt, that's a learned behavior and probably
- 12:41from years and years and years. And so it's changing
- 12:47your mindset, learning to trust yourself more.
- 12:51Gaslighting is not about truth. Gaslighting is
- 12:56all about control, protection, or avoidance.
- 13:01So most people who gaslight are not trying to
- 13:04make someone feel crazy in a calculated way.
- 13:10Instead, they're trying to protect something
- 13:12within themselves. And that has very little to
- 13:15do with you or the person who's being gaslighted.
- 13:19It's about them trying to control a situation,
- 13:23protect something, are avoidance. Avoidance can
- 13:26be avoidance of, you know, responsibility, avoidance
- 13:32of the truth, or avoidance of that they actually
- 13:35feel out of control in a situation. And so they're
- 13:38trying to gain that control back. They're trying
- 13:41to protect, you know, whatever's going on, right?
- 13:46So how can we reclaim that power when you're
- 13:49being gaslighted? Well, when gaslight is present,
- 13:54The goal Intention or not is to make you doubt
- 14:00your own perception and over time this disconnect
- 14:05You know can make you lose your self -confidence
- 14:09it can Alter your sense of reality and it can
- 14:15pull you away from your intuition if you start
- 14:18down and So reclaiming your power isn't about
- 14:23funding or providing anything it's about coming
- 14:28back into alignment with yourself anchoring into
- 14:34your truth right and knowing that your truth
- 14:39is valid so gaslighting lives in the mind it's
- 14:45all control and power of the mind but the power
- 14:49your power your self -power lives in your body.
- 14:55Right? You can feel it. You can own it. When
- 15:01you start feeling confused, unsettled, or suddenly
- 15:06unsure of yourself, do yourself a favor and just
- 15:11pause and ask yourself a couple of questions.
- 15:14Right? So you can ask yourself, what do I feel
- 15:20in my body right now? Is my body calm? Is my
- 15:28body tense? Is my body heavy? Or is my feel like
- 15:34I'm looked? These are gonna be signs that that
- 15:39gas lining is taking effect, right? Because it's
- 15:44showing itself in your body. If you're calm,
- 15:47it's probably, you know, you're good. Your body
- 15:50often knows the truth before your mind does,
- 15:54right? And then your mind tries to reason it
- 15:58away. So instead of trying to reason something
- 16:01away of why you're feeling anything, right? Ground
- 16:06yourself. Take a few deep breaths. Step into
- 16:11stillness. If you're in a situation where it
- 16:15helps to touch, touch something, whether it be
- 16:19a wall or a plant. or the ground or whatever
- 16:26something that helps bring you back into yourself
- 16:30right to help restore your inner authority and
- 16:34then when something starts coming up you know
- 16:42you can ask yourself and it doesn't have to be
- 16:44out loud right but in that situation you can
- 16:47ask yourself you know or you can acknowledge
- 16:51to yourself Write that this doesn't feel right.
- 16:56Why does this not feel right? See what comes
- 17:00up. Remind yourself, my experience is real. I
- 17:07know my truth. So you may want to say, am I abandoning
- 17:15my truth in this moment? if you are on that the
- 17:20experience that your experience is real and is
- 17:22valid also owning the reality that you do not
- 17:30need to explain what's going on it's more of
- 17:35like trusting what's going on so trusting that
- 17:39feeling that doesn't feel right trusting that
- 17:43they're trying to pull you away from reality
- 17:47When you can start Stepping back into the trusting
- 17:51of yourself and of your own knowing your power
- 17:54returns in that moment And you stop debating
- 17:59your truth internally Also one of the most draining
- 18:09patterns I'm especially if you're in a long -term
- 18:13relationship with someone who's Takes on these
- 18:18gaslining behaviors is to stop looking at that
- 18:22individual For reassurance and for understanding
- 18:29and for validation Because that person is never
- 18:33you know, there's a am I gonna see I don't want
- 18:35to say never I'll take that back but there's
- 18:38a very high chance of that person May not ever
- 18:44see your reality Because they're living in their
- 18:48own truth regardless if their own truth is made
- 18:51out of fear and and Insecurities right or your
- 18:57truth is made out of truth and power and belonging
- 19:00You know and being one with yourself where there's
- 19:04a separation and fear and anxiety right feel
- 19:08the difference there and So you don't want to
- 19:13go to someone who's in that fear and control
- 19:18mindset to gain validation for your own reality,
- 19:22for your own truth. Because they may never see
- 19:26your own truth. And so you're not gonna gain
- 19:29that validation from me. And why would you want
- 19:33to be validated by someone who takes on these
- 19:36behaviors? Right? And who's owning that. So.
- 19:43I want to empower you to be able to no longer
- 19:49seek outside of yourself for that validation,
- 19:53but to turn inward, to be grounded within yourself
- 19:58and know that the only validation you need is
- 20:01your own truth and to live and own your own truth
- 20:04and not look at an outside source for that validation.
- 20:10Now I do understand that this is nice to have
- 20:14another physical being to be able to validate
- 20:18what you're going through and be able to understand
- 20:20what you're going through and be able to help
- 20:22support and nurture you. Then find that grounded
- 20:28nurturing support through other means, through
- 20:32another person or individual. than the person
- 20:36that you're having a conflict with or having
- 20:38the gaslighting things happening with you, right?
- 20:46So find that support system and lean into that.
- 20:51You know, your truth doesn't become more real
- 20:54because someone else agrees with you. Your truth
- 20:58becomes more real because you're owning it. and
- 21:02you're believing it within all of you. It's also
- 21:10important to create internal boundaries. So even
- 21:17if external boundaries aren't possible in a certain
- 21:21situation, internal boundaries are. And these
- 21:26internal boundaries may sound something like,
- 21:29I don't need to absorb this version of reality.
- 21:35Or I can listen without internalizing. In other
- 21:41words, you can listen to what they're saying
- 21:43and be an observer of what's going on versus
- 21:46owning it and taking it into yourself. And you
- 21:50can choose clarity over confusion. So a lot of
- 21:54times like, someone is taking on this behavior
- 21:58they can give you words and situations that provide
- 22:01more confusion because they don't make sense
- 22:04in the moment or you know they didn't happen
- 22:09right and so remembering the truth and remembering
- 22:16you know what is taking place and provide yourself
- 22:21your own clarity. This protects your energy and
- 22:27it also preserves your self -trust and it's so
- 22:31important And this is extremely critical something
- 22:36to always remember Feeling unsure of yourself
- 22:42doesn't mean you're weak broken or wrong It often
- 22:47means that you've been conditioned over time
- 22:52to question your own knowing. And so, you know,
- 22:58the last decade is all been about recognizing
- 23:03our conditionings that we were brought up with.
- 23:06And it's not necessarily that those conditionings
- 23:08were wrong or the way we were brought up was
- 23:11wrong. We were brought up with the knowledge
- 23:13that was best known at that time. And so we're
- 23:18stepping into a new reality. And the vibrational
- 23:24and the awakenings of our planet is rising. And
- 23:28so we're becoming more aware of our past conditionings
- 23:31and how they're no longer suited for our present.
- 23:34And that's all this is. Right? So it doesn't
- 23:39mean you're weak. It doesn't mean you're broken
- 23:42or wrong. It just means you've been conditioned.
- 23:46And so we're just breaking that conditioning
- 23:49and stepping into what's right for now. So reclaiming
- 23:54your power begins with compassion. Of course
- 23:59you're going to feel unsure. Look at what you've
- 24:02been navigating through. Look at what you've
- 24:03been doing with. Allow yourself to rebuild trust
- 24:08with yourself. Give yourself compassion for that.
- 24:12And allow the rebuilding of trust in yourself.
- 24:19You also don't need a dramatic exit or confrontation
- 24:23to reclaim your power. Sometimes it can be as
- 24:27simple as saying less, observing more, keeping
- 24:32your truth close to you, and making decisions
- 24:36privately to honor you. You don't have to go
- 24:40out with a bang or making a lot of noise about
- 24:45it, making a lot of drama about it. Power grows
- 24:50when you consistently choose alignment over explanation.
- 24:57Again, you don't owe anybody an explanation.
- 24:59You own your own truth and that's all that matters.
- 25:03So when you're being gaslighted, reclaiming your
- 25:07power isn't about providing your reality. It's
- 25:11about believing in yourself again. Your perception
- 25:15matters. Your experience is Always valid and
- 25:21your power lives in your willingness to trust
- 25:24yourself So let's say that again Your perception
- 25:31matters Your experience is always always valid
- 25:39And your power lives in your willingness to trust
- 25:45yourself So let's take, let's do a little bit
- 25:53of general reflection, okay? So let's take a
- 25:57deep breath in. And exhale. Another deep breath
- 26:08in. Big exhale. Let's ask yourself. Where in
- 26:21my life am I being asked to trust myself more?
- 26:29Where in my life am I being asked to trust myself
- 26:35more? Where have I been overriding what I know
- 26:44to be true? Where am I? You've been over whining
- 26:52what I mean, no to be true. Now notice what comes
- 27:02up. It's not to judge it, but it's to understand
- 27:06it. What services may be anything from how you're
- 27:12allowing others to treat you to expectations
- 27:16you continue to carry. Our moments where you've
- 27:20been made to question your own perception Sit
- 27:30with that Feel free to when we have time to journal
- 27:34about it and to really connect with what you
- 27:38receive there So you can you know start working
- 27:47on what it means to own your own power and step
- 27:51into your own truth. Your owning your power doesn't
- 27:57happen all at once. It's practice and small consistent
- 28:03choices. It's choosing honesty over harmony,
- 28:10alignment over approval, and presence over appeasement.
- 28:17And some days that simply just means saying less,
- 28:22staying more firmly in what you know. You don't
- 28:27have to explain yourself. You can just be in
- 28:31your knowing and be in your owning of your truth.
- 28:36Owning of your truth is more powerful than anything
- 28:39else that you can do. And believing in it within
- 28:44yourself and owning it within yourself. I don't
- 28:48care what other people think. My power is me
- 28:53being in my truth and owning it. We don't have
- 29:00to do it for approval for others. We have to
- 29:02do it for approval of ourselves. We don't have
- 29:05to do it to meet other people's expectations.
- 29:08We have to do it to meet our own expectations
- 29:11of whatever that is. And that can change. in
- 29:17any time so whatever your expectation is today
- 29:20may not be the same expectation you have tomorrow
- 29:23or a year from now or 10 years from now so as
- 29:31we move through the week just pay attention to
- 29:33where you feel steady and where you feel pulled
- 29:37away from yourself your power doesn't need permission
- 29:44It doesn't need agreement. It only needs your
- 29:48willingness to honor it. So I empower you to
- 29:55step into your power and own it completely. So
- 30:01I say thank you for being here, for listening,
- 30:04and for walking this path with me. It's truly
- 30:10amazing. And I can't tell you how much it means
- 30:14that I am able to do this, bring this information
- 30:19and share it with you. If this resonated, I ask
- 30:30that you share it with others that may find that
- 30:33helpful. You can check out the show notes. and
- 30:38I will have a link there to this week's blog
- 30:41and how you can sign up for our weekly newsletters
- 30:45that come out and where we can continue these
- 30:49conversations and if you feel called to I would
- 30:53love to hear from you even if it's just a word
- 30:56or a sentence you know whatever has been touching
- 31:01on your heart so I will leave my email address
- 31:06I'm also in the show notes. So we want to hear
- 31:10from you. If you are listening to this on a platform
- 31:14where you can leave comments, rate or review,
- 31:20please do so. That's how we can get these messages
- 31:25out to others so they can hear it. So again,
- 31:30thank you. I appreciate your time. I appreciate
- 31:34your listening ears in your curious heart and
- 31:39until next time I hope to see you again. Have
- 31:44a great day.
