  Speaker 1: You know, God is there.

  Speaker 1: He's right there with you as you're listening right now,

  Speaker 1: and he wants to speak to you. This is one
• 0:21
  Speaker 1: of the beautiful truths of Christianity. The God of this
• 0:25
  Speaker 1: universe wants to speak to you personally. He doesn't want
• 0:30
  Speaker 1: to just sit on his throne and blast out proclamations
• 0:34
  Speaker 1: that everyone has to.
• 0:35
  Speaker 1: Uh, respond to and, uh, obey. He really wants a
• 0:41
  Speaker 1: living personal relationship with you, and that means day to day,
• 0:48
  Speaker 1: your best friend. He wants to be the person you
• 0:52
  Speaker 1: turn to when things are going bad and you need
• 0:54
  Speaker 1: to share it.
• 0:55
  Speaker 1: When you're in a hopeless situation and your uh pressure
• 1:01
  Speaker 1: cooker is about to explode and you've got to unload
• 1:04
  Speaker 1: with someone, God wants to be that someone. He wants
• 1:07
  Speaker 1: to be that person who is so close in your
• 1:10
  Speaker 1: life that you talk to him all the time and
• 1:12
  Speaker 1: he talks to you all the time. That's why we
• 1:15
  Speaker 1: open the Bible every morning at this time.
• 1:18
  Speaker 1: And just say, God, what do you have to say
• 1:21
  Speaker 1: to me? Not because we want to have answers for
• 1:25
  Speaker 1: a theology quiz, no, because we want to interact with
• 1:31
  Speaker 1: the most important person in our lives, and that is
• 1:34
  Speaker 1: God as we relate to Him. Well, this week we're
• 1:39
  Speaker 1: looking at the book of 2 Peter chapter 3 in
• 1:43
  Speaker 1: the Bible.
• 1:44
  Speaker 1: And this chapter is all about Christ's return and how
• 1:50
  Speaker 1: He's going to wrap up this whole universe and make
• 1:54
  Speaker 1: things right, all the injustices, all the things that are wrong,
• 1:58
  Speaker 1: and it seems like people have gotten away with this
• 2:00
  Speaker 1: or that or treated people unfairly. No one gets away
• 2:04
  Speaker 1: with anything because God is involved, and there will be
• 2:07
  Speaker 1: a day of accountability for this universe.
• 2:10
  Speaker 1: To some people it seems like it's never coming. That's
• 2:13
  Speaker 1: what Peter says in this chapter. People say, Where's the
• 2:16
  Speaker 1: promise of Jesus' return? Everything's just keeping on going just
• 2:19
  Speaker 1: like it always has. Is God really involved?
• 2:23
  Speaker 1: And Peter says, Oh, don't forget, God did already destroy
• 2:27
  Speaker 1: this world once with a flood, and He's going to
• 2:30
  Speaker 1: destroy it again with fire, but he's waiting. He's not
• 2:35
  Speaker 1: being slow about his promise to return. Rather, he's being patient,
• 2:39
  Speaker 1: allowing more and more people to turn their lives around
• 2:42
  Speaker 1: and turn to Jesus and invite God to become the
• 2:47
  Speaker 1: centre of their lives and to forgive them, make them
• 2:49
  Speaker 1: a part of His family. That's exactly what he wants
• 2:52
  Speaker 1: to do.
• 2:54
  Speaker 1: Peter goes on and says, but
• 2:58
  Speaker 1: The day of the Lord. This day when He does
• 3:01
  Speaker 1: bring everything to an end and hold us accountable, the
• 3:05
  Speaker 1: day of the Lord will come like a thief. That is,
• 3:10
  Speaker 1: when you're not ready, when you're not expecting it, he's
• 3:12
  Speaker 1: going to come, and then the heavens will pass away
• 3:17
  Speaker 1: with a roar.
• 3:19
  Speaker 1: And the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved,
• 3:23
  Speaker 1: and the earth and the works that are done on
• 3:26
  Speaker 1: it will be exposed.
• 3:29
  Speaker 1: Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what
• 3:34
  Speaker 1: sort of people ought you to be in lives of
• 3:37
  Speaker 1: holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of
• 3:43
  Speaker 1: this day of God, because of which the heavens will
• 3:46
  Speaker 1: be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies
• 3:50
  Speaker 1: will melt as they burn.
• 3:52
  Speaker 1: But according to his promise, we're waiting for new heavens
• 3:56
  Speaker 1: and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

  Speaker 1: Here is this loving God who loves us so much,
• 4:04
  Speaker 1: and we look at all the evil in the world
• 4:06
  Speaker 1: and we say, God, why don't you do something about it?
• 4:08
  Speaker 1: Why don't you end it all? And he says, Well,
• 4:10
  Speaker 1: I will, but once that happens, there'll be no more
• 4:13
  Speaker 1: chance for anyone to turn to me, and I'm waiting
• 4:16
  Speaker 1: to give them a chance. But don't let that make
• 4:19
  Speaker 1: you think.
• 4:20
  Speaker 1: I'm not going to end it all one day. There
• 4:23
  Speaker 1: will be that day of accountability, that day of judgement.
• 4:27
  Speaker 1: This whole universe will be destroyed, and I'm going to
• 4:30
  Speaker 1: make it new.
• 4:32
  Speaker 1: Live in light of that reality.
• 4:37
