- 0:22None. A hamster with a blump.
- 0:34Pen knife for doing. Quicker, quicker.
- 0:41Quicker. Welcome back.
- 0:42To a Hamster with a Blood Pen Knife, the Doctor Who commentary
- 0:47podcast I am currently broadcasting from Thoros Beta.
- 0:52I'm here with my two mental friends who are now going to do
- 0:55their laughs. Dylan Reese, Luke Malloy.
- 1:02Yours is bad. Yours is bad.
- 1:05Can I ask you gentlemen, if You're the end of your Tails Has
- 1:09been inside Nicola Bright recently?
- 1:12Sadly not, no. Unfortunately not,
- 1:15unfortunately. Not you have to listen to
- 1:16episode 2, everybody to understand that reference guys.
- 1:20Well, how you enjoy Mind Warp so far.
- 1:23It's good. It's it's uneasy.
- 1:25It makes you think, yeah. It's a it's a difficult watch,
- 1:32but a fun watch. And I've noticed it's not one of
- 1:35these stories where you just sort of sit there and let it go
- 1:38by. You notice new things and
- 1:40whether it's character stuff or visual things, there's always
- 1:43new little elements to pick up on.
- 1:45So I'm I'm enjoying this, this watch through.
- 1:49That's true. I always forget about that with
- 1:51Pink Alien that. Yeah, that's what it.
- 1:55Says for me. I didn't.
- 1:56I didn't know it's a Terra laptal until you mentioned it's
- 1:59a. Terra Laptal Mass.
- 2:00Just pray. Well, I honestly always forget
- 2:03that it's in here until I see. It's only because I watched
- 2:05this. You always forget the Terra
- 2:07lactals because the Visitation is the most doctor.
- 2:11Boring. This that pink thing is another
- 2:16radiant that has never turned up in spit off media.
- 2:19So we've got 2 two in one. I don't.
- 2:21Know whether the Terra Laptils ever have.
- 2:24Oh, that surely have no, they shouldn't have done.
- 2:27They shouldn't have done because the Terra.
- 2:29Laptil masks go up in that fire as well.
- 2:31Oh, I don't know. You guys talk amongst yourself.
- 2:33I'm just going to say for Terra Laptil.
- 2:35The two opt for TV expert is doing his research.
- 2:38Oh, Luke, what should we talk about in the meanwhile?
- 2:41Oh shit. The visitation is I've I've
- 2:44never liked that story, never liked it.
- 2:46I mean, they kill off, they kill off John Savadon in the pre
- 2:50title spit, don't they? And he's the best thing in it.
- 2:52Well, people say Richard Mace is good.
- 2:55There's it's a It's a drag for me and just.
- 2:58Because your attention. Just because he blows up London
- 3:02at the end doesn't do anything for me.
- 3:03Hello. Yes, go on.
- 3:05The Terra Leptons come back in the same season they're they're
- 3:08in time flight. Oh, of course they are, Yeah.
- 3:11Yeah, it's like. If they got their own.
- 3:13They also show up in the novelization of Slip Back and
- 3:17the Virgin Mission adventure The Dark Path.
- 3:19Oh, and a couple of Oh, they've been loads of.
- 3:22Shit, that's David A McKinsey, isn't it?
- 3:24Of course he loves Tide and continuity.
- 3:26Hang on, hang on. Doctor Who, the 10th Doctor,
- 3:28Titan Comics, Medicine Man, and Arena of Fear.
- 3:33Next week on Too Hot For TV. With every commentary, a new
- 3:39episode of Too Hot for TV bursts into existence.
- 3:42What people don't realise is we're not, we're doing too hot
- 3:45for TV's and I sound like I'm really knowledgeable on my
- 3:48podcast, that I cut out the bit where I've just Googled Tele
- 3:50laptops. Of course they're in the 10th of
- 3:52the story and everything. It's Dylan knows everything.
- 3:55Here's a little behind the scenes glimpse as to what's
- 3:57really going on, because as we all know, I don't know how to
- 4:00wear it. Do you Do you know what the Lucy
- 4:04Wilson mysteries are? Yes, that's the spin off books
- 4:08for kids that come from the Brigadier Rangers like the
- 4:12Brigadiers. Great granddaughter or something
- 4:14like that. Oh, you're right.
- 4:15OK, Well, if we want to get really tenuous, I was just
- 4:18giggling whether the bundles had ever come back.
- 4:21Yeah, they're in. That they're in the the 4th book
- 4:24of the Lucy Wilson Mysteries, which is aptly called the Banjul
- 4:27Invasion. How the Banjuls have not
- 4:29appeared in a big Finish bonds the mind.
- 4:35Bled McCoy back. Yeah, Chip.
- 4:38Or bringing Glenn McCoy. Should we go?
- 4:41He wants to count, is it? Yeah, I I believe, you know, we
- 4:44may have a like a rehearsal for Perry's death at the end of this
- 4:49episode. OK, yeah man, with the knowledge
- 4:53you have to point out where it happens.
- 4:55No, it's a bit where it looks like she got shot at the end of
- 4:57the episode. You were watching it, weren't
- 4:58you, when you watched it through?
- 5:01I can't remember. In five seconds, gentlemen, 432.
- 5:091. What do you mean this is?
- 5:11We're watching? I haven't just skipped an
- 5:14episode of We're watching episode seven, episode 3.
- 5:17It ends with the guards shooting down.
- 5:19You can't Perry. Everybody He.
- 5:21Goes no, no, no, it's no, no, it's Dawn is in it No, no.
- 5:25Yeah, but. As far as the trials concerned,
- 5:28she's just died because that's why it's the cliffhanger.
- 5:32Well. And it ends.
- 5:35It's Sorry, it begins. The next episode Where I'm going
- 5:37is Hairy, Dead and. The value I just goes spoilers
- 5:44you. Know you know these sort of
- 5:47matrix projections? You know that somehow they're
- 5:50managing to watch this? How?
- 5:53How is that possible? What it's a bit like, well,
- 5:57they've got. Cameras zooming about the place
- 5:59or. It's it's just the controller's
- 6:02office of BBC One at the time that's.
- 6:04All that's all. It's like he chose A adventure
- 6:08from his future next week, doesn't he?
- 6:10And like if if he's put on trial.
- 6:13I believe, I believe, I believe you find at one point the Valley
- 6:16art calls it the matrix of time and it's, you know, it's the
- 6:20repository of all Time Lord knowledge, probably from the
- 6:23past, the future and the present.
- 6:24But the theoretically who's? Going Are we seeing this through
- 6:27if he's? Going to lose the.
- 6:29Trials. Run.
- 6:31If if he's going to, if he's going to lose the trial, then he
- 6:34can't have an adventure in his future.
- 6:36I mean, the answer said no. He doesn't lose.
- 6:38I think that's the big. Plot point though, but then but
- 6:41then the matrix just said the matrix would change.
- 6:44Oh yeah, because they've been erased from time.
- 6:47These time loads know what they're.
- 6:48Doing fixed points in. Time.
- 6:49But then he'd be get then he'd be getting prosecuted on
- 6:51evidence that never happens. Yeah, but also he would have
- 6:55never existed to commit the crimes in the 1st place.
- 6:58It's not just killing him, they're raising him from time.
- 7:01Good. He deserves it after this.
- 7:03If you want to talk about whose point of view things are
- 7:06remembered from, why in every flashback scene does the Doctor
- 7:09not remember it from his point of view?
- 7:10In every or in any TV show, does the character not remember from
- 7:14their point of view. Instead, they they have a lovely
- 7:16flashback. And there they are in a previous
- 7:18episode. Well, because doesn't he's
- 7:21saying this. He's got amnesia or something
- 7:22and the the vineyard goes oh really?
- 7:25How convenient of you. Yeah, it's like, but that's what
- 7:27happens when you're tugged out of time.
- 7:31There's there's there's an obvious answer to all this.
- 7:34It's sleep dust. It's it's sleep dust.
- 7:38With those creatures in one of the wants and futures tonight.
- 7:42No, it did look like it was very.
- 7:44Very similar, no? The.
- 7:47Only reason I asked about how we're who, whose eyes we're
- 7:50seeing these through is that because at the end of every
- 7:52scene where Colin Baker's behaving in a particularly evil
- 7:55way, there seems to be this sort of dramatic zoom right on in him
- 7:58as he's going. I'm just pulling these sort of
- 8:02sort of. I'm not sure if I'm evil, but I
- 8:03could be evil face and I'm like, well, whoever's filming this for
- 8:07the for the prosecution is doing a great job.
- 8:09Right now it's. I was trying to make my mind up
- 8:15about what so like Colin when as a kid Colin used to be one of my
- 8:20favourites but like now I can see him acting like I can almost
- 8:25see the I know I can see him saying the lines but then.
- 8:30Do not get that with Tom Baker. But the counterpoint to that is
- 8:33that I can't really, I can't see Peter Davidson acting but then
- 8:37he's putting in so little effort sometimes that like and it's
- 8:41it's like it's not that he's technically he's a bad actor.
- 8:43It's just that you can sort of see it in people.
- 8:45And which one would you rather watch?
- 8:46Someone you could see acting? I I'd rather watch Colin every
- 8:50time over Peter Davidson. I no, I do agree as well.
- 8:55Peter is still Colin. Just has a way with language as
- 8:57well. Colin can make dialogue
- 8:59flourish, whereas, you know, oh, it'll be an end of me as a Time
- 9:04Lord, you know, half the time Davidson sounds very bored.
- 9:07Yeah, Davidson's just trying to remember his lines for the
- 9:11sitcom he's going into next week, you know?
- 9:13What's that I've got to do, Doctor?
- 9:15Oh, OK, let's do it. Come on.
- 9:18I like that interview where he gives up where he's giving up
- 9:21the role and he's and they're like, did you enjoy it?
- 9:23And he's like, it wasn't my favorite part of the I'd just
- 9:26love to see. I'd love to see a modern doctor
- 9:29say that. And then you get Colin Baker on
- 9:31the same interview show next week, right?
- 9:33I'm so. I'm going to do seven years.
- 9:34I'm so excited. That's the.
- 9:38Sad thing, isn't it? Is.
- 9:39You've got one actor who's like, oh, I'm going to do this because
- 9:41it's a bit embarrassing that I've got arsed and like if I say
- 9:44no and does 3 successful years and then you've got one actor
- 9:47who just it's the best part he's ever had.
- 9:49He really wants to do it. He got delivered some pretty
- 9:52ropey scripts and then fires. Yeah, never, never, never say
- 9:57how long you're going to stay in a party.
- 9:58It's a recipe for disaster. I do like how sort of and much
- 10:03Peter Davis could take the piss out of the show though, because
- 10:05I don't think enough actors that feel at the show do it enough.
- 10:08Well, well, Peter Davison for many years was quite distant
- 10:12from the role I think. And then around the 50th he
- 10:15suddenly started getting really involved but also like really
- 10:18cheeky and really fun. Like he was always quite a bland
- 10:20interview as well back in the day.
- 10:22And then now he's like he seems to know loads about the show and
- 10:26he finds it all very funny and just loves mocking it.
- 10:30I can explain. Why?
- 10:32I can explain why with a single word quote from seal money,
- 10:37money, money, money money, money, money, money.
- 10:40I don't think it's money for him.
- 10:41He's worked consistently since he left the show.
- 10:44Maybe it's. Just the adoration then.
- 10:46Maybe it's the the the sort of cult celebrity status.
- 10:50On that look who's driving feature on the new Blu-ray.
- 10:54I loved it. He it did just sound like he
- 10:59just wanted to be part of it because it was just a fucking
- 11:02like. I think what happened was that
- 11:05there was a lot of therapy that happened when they started doing
- 11:09the original DVD commentaries for him and Janet, Janet, who
- 11:13used to be really down on the show and has since been back in
- 11:16the show. God, she said it more than
- 11:18anyone at. The moment.
- 11:20And so I think she. I think they, I think through
- 11:24watching those they were able to talk it out between themselves,
- 11:27realized that it was a long time ago and it was quite fun.
- 11:30Look back on the good times they had as well rather than it just
- 11:33being this. I think they were probably a bit
- 11:34embarrassed to the show at the time.
- 11:36Yeah, I. Think, Yeah.
- 11:38That quote where he says in that forest that the show was crap, I
- 11:41don't think he was lying. I don't think he was just
- 11:44talking about silent flight. He was he was he, he, when you
- 11:48watch it, it's a general. He's specifically talking about
- 11:51time flight, but you can tell it's a general thing, but it's
- 11:54all very, it's still quite tongue in cheek.
- 11:56He goes, and it just looked crap and they go, what do you think
- 11:59of the poem? It's crap.
- 12:00And then he goes, no, no, no, no, I thought something was
- 12:02good. So it's it's always.
- 12:03Been taken out. There was a there was a thing,
- 12:06and it's someone with the Blu Rays where Janet Fielding's on
- 12:10stage at Panoptic in 1993 and Nick Briggs interviews her and
- 12:13asks her about bringing Doctor Who back.
- 12:15So no, I don't think it should come back.
- 12:16I don't think it should come back.
- 12:17And they sort of don't have an argument.
- 12:19But you can tell Nick Briggs is quite put off by the fact she
- 12:23doesn't think Doctor Who come back should come back.
- 12:26And then she goes, how about the part plays by a by a woman and
- 12:29like two people clap and that's. That's about how many people
- 12:34clapped when it happened. So sorry.
- 12:36You believe that? I I cheered.
- 12:38We all. Cheer if I'm going to be that
- 12:40person come. On.
- 12:46I'm going to try and bring this back to my wall.
- 12:49I was very up for it actually, but.
- 12:53We know how that ended. I it took, it was probably only
- 12:58in about 2016 where I thought this might be a good idea, and
- 13:01then it happened the following year.
- 13:04So you started it, basically. I wanted, well, if I had my
- 13:06choice, I would have picked Ruth Wilson.
- 13:08That she she just had the look and everything for everything.
- 13:12Tam's and Greg Ortonia Miller would have been my.
- 13:14Oh, both of those two as well. What?
- 13:16Is still two of them still in two?
- 13:18Yeah, no, they would have been fantastic.
- 13:19I I I'm going to named you. I worked with Tam's and Greg
- 13:22last week and she did a photo shoot and the way she looked at
- 13:24that camera, I thought, that's fucking Doctor Who there.
- 13:26Oh wow. I'm the producer of Doctor Who.
- 13:31You can make it happen, can't you?
- 13:32Yeah, he's an old doctor. Can you imagine if he gets that
- 13:37job, we would know the hottest person in in Doctor.
- 13:42Who I? Already tell people I podcast
- 13:44with an Emmy Award winner? An Emmy for podcasting, though,
- 13:49That's what I keep reminding. Them you should I?
- 13:52Should I should if I got the the Doctor Who producer role, like
- 13:57decanonize Capaldi just to piss you off?
- 14:02I think only two people will be pissed off.
- 14:04Don't worry. The two that clapped.
- 14:08I'm going to go. I'm going to go back to that.
- 14:10So we just passed where they had the slave fish.
- 14:12Should we just start And they they all go a bit crazy don't
- 14:15they? And and you.
- 14:16Carlos is trying to kill Dorf and Perry's getting in between.
- 14:20For a second I was seeing a sitcom in the making you know
- 14:23down in the caves. Oh, that.
- 14:26These these costumes I keep talking about doctor
- 14:29conventions, but apparently that's what I do at this
- 14:32convention I was at. No, you've mentioned costumes
- 14:34because you've got your little fashion designers that you
- 14:36follow. And they all dress like silk.
- 14:41But the the, the, no, the mentors like prosthetic costumes
- 14:45were all at the convention. And there's a picture of me like
- 14:487 years old, eight years old, just stood next to the empty,
- 14:52the empty costumes with no faces.
- 14:55They will have long deteriorated now because Latex doesn't last
- 14:59you. Had a thought of?
- 15:00Some empty orange costumes from Mind War.
- 15:03We should have known. Really.
- 15:04The. Mentor the mentor.
- 15:07Oh, OK. Still and Co do.
- 15:09You know, I saw Phil Newman once at a phantom convention trying
- 15:13to get signatures. Were playing a mentor in
- 15:15Dimensions in Time. Oh, lovely.
- 15:17Feel lovely. Feel Demon.
- 15:19Yeah, but that's Phantom. They'll invite anybody along.
- 15:21It's. True.
- 15:23They invited the little boy from 30 years in the TARDIS along.
- 15:27I love seals Line there Half my money if you give me a 5 minute
- 15:31start. When I when I was watching this
- 15:34the other day, this I I start to get a bit bored around this
- 15:36point. Now I didn't get I don't get
- 15:38bored in part 4 or anything, but this little bit of part three
- 15:41and where it meanders a little bit I think is where it slightly
- 15:43falls off the boil. I think 4 is a really good
- 15:48episode of Doctor. For so mental that it can only
- 15:51just capture irritation. There's a bit where the slaves
- 15:55are all freed and they're sort of dancing around the corridors
- 15:58like that's like, well, that's all we got to that point.
- 16:00I think this thing's just gone batshit, isn't it the.
- 16:03First, the first time they turn up in a minute I I again, I just
- 16:06totally forgot they were in it. I was like, who?
- 16:08Who are these people? It's just that this is a load of
- 16:11different people that live in in the caves and so there.
- 16:14Was something quite meta going on here as well?
- 16:16Them going to find the slaves? It's also trad Doctor Who in
- 16:20this very non trad Doctor Who story.
- 16:23I was like I'm missing something.
- 16:26I think, I think, I think Philip Martin's kind of, because he's a
- 16:30prestigious playwright and television writer, I think he's
- 16:34interested in doing Doctor Who. Not in the same would way of not
- 16:37interested in writing for the Doctor, but I think perhaps he's
- 16:40sort of half remembering what the tropes of Doctor Who are and
- 16:43half trying to do his own thing. Which I think you should.
- 16:47Maybe that's the right? Balance.
- 16:48But yeah, it might be the right balance.
- 16:51Has anybody seen any of Philip Martin's other work?
- 16:54No. No, although someone's chosen
- 16:57gangsters for Hamster Extra, so I will be watching.
- 17:00Someone you're going to watch the whole two seasons there?
- 17:03Oh, I don't know. Is it good?
- 17:04It's, I mean, it's one of the most fantastic television
- 17:08programmes ever made. And that is high praise.
- 17:11Yeah, like, it starts off as a fairly traditional gangster
- 17:14story, but it turns into the most meta.
- 17:17You watch Philip Martin's career implode during that second
- 17:21series as it becomes the weirdest television show you've
- 17:24ever. Seen.
- 17:24Oh, you entice me. I can't wait.
- 17:27And you didn't give any spoilers.
- 17:29There's like the opposite of Joe.
- 17:32I mean, I can give you spoilers if you want, but I gave.
- 17:35Dylan I gave Luke Malloy one of those Buffy podcast episodes.
- 17:39This is so don't worry, there's no spoilers in there.
- 17:42And you listen to four or five. It was low, absolutely black.
- 17:45And it's not even like I'm at the beginning of Buffy.
- 17:47I'm halfway through the bloody thing.
- 17:51Sorry, Luke. I've still never seen it, so I'm
- 17:53sorry I've never listened to your podcast.
- 17:55You can't. You can't.
- 17:58I don't blame ya. It's just a bit grim, isn't it?
- 18:01They're going to smash their skulls in just so they can't
- 18:04experiment on their brains. I mean, I think that's fair.
- 18:07Sometimes you've got to do they're going.
- 18:08To get that poor old man to do it, like holding that
- 18:11polystyrene rock up. It looks a bit like Sean
- 18:13Connery, doesn't it? There's something about you're
- 18:17going to think I'm crazy, but there's something about
- 18:19Jokanos's confidence in himself. It's very sexy, you know?
- 18:24I think I'll probably, I'll probably would.
- 18:26You know, it'd be like being let loose on a bouncy castle.
- 18:30But I'd have fun. Oh, which, which way round?
- 18:34Oh, there's a bit, you cheeky fuck.
- 18:42Come round and find out. There's there's there's no way
- 18:46that you can't us as a bottom. Well then don't worry.
- 18:53I'll see him on, Grinder. He ain't going to be.
- 18:55Disappointed then? That was the bit where he had
- 18:58the cup of tea. Yeah, he.
- 19:00Had a cup of tea and now he's given someone with CPR.
- 19:05I like to think they cut away because he was about to do math
- 19:08to math then, but they thought they might be too graphic even
- 19:10for this. So we know when Carlos gets
- 19:12really angry, he does give off a bit of Ian Levine energy,
- 19:16doesn't he? Like it's a bit like if if Ian
- 19:19Levine heard that Gary Russell was animate and the celestial
- 19:22toy bacon, it would be peak Yukonos.
- 19:25It was a moment during that interminable 5 hour interview
- 19:29that he did. Now, I didn't watch any of it,
- 19:31but Mark did just show me one little bit that he was watching
- 19:34where someone's offering to make him a drinker and he goes like
- 19:40he's and he he said it just like in Yukonos.
- 19:42You're right, yeah. I I interviewed Ian Levine for
- 19:46my next book and he halfway through, he literally shouts at
- 19:51his housemaid come. Back.
- 19:53Come. Back.
- 19:54Come back? Like a split little child.
- 19:57Can you release the whole thing please?
- 19:59I can't. I can't see it.
- 20:02Oh, this is fun, I know. I think this is we're starting
- 20:05to have a bit of fun with the Doctor again now, where he's
- 20:07doing a commerce with SEAL and he's teaching him all about the
- 20:10future. And well, if you give them a bit
- 20:12of money, they're going to find all that wreckage, all of that
- 20:16stuff. Yeah, it's starting to go a bit
- 20:18more of way. But even though I'm saying like
- 20:20I don't like the evil the Doctor's evil performance, it's
- 20:24because he is actually too evil. And in that way it's actually
- 20:28the best performed evil Doctor there is.
- 20:31So it all it all again, it's like mind warp itself.
- 20:33It's just it turns. You can never quite just put
- 20:38your eggs in one basket. With it's like, I'll tell you
- 20:40what it is, the story's unsure about itself, just as you are
- 20:43unsure about the story. You know, the whole thing is
- 20:46just rolled With it's. Quite hard to say anything
- 20:48certain about your feelings on my but.
- 20:50It's a good one to talk about because of it.
- 20:54Yeah, and and Dylan's right. You do always see something new.
- 20:56Like I say, I forgot. I forgot the pink alien was in
- 21:00it. I forgot the slaves were in it.
- 21:04I forgot how Camp Matrona Carney was.
- 21:06Dylan, Sorry. Please make your point.
- 21:07No, no, I was just going to say, do you think there's an
- 21:09alternative timeline where there's just the the Doctor and
- 21:13Seal going around being evil capitalists?
- 21:16Oh please. They're total Thatcher rights,
- 21:20yeah. Come on, come on, Big finish.
- 21:22There's a box set I need. And Nabil Shabal and Colin Baker
- 21:26still hang out. It'd be perfect.
- 21:27Don't they? They mates.
- 21:29I I believe they do know each other outside of the show, yes.
- 21:35It does make them marshmallows look really, really horrible,
- 21:39doesn't it? Yeah.
- 21:40Which is great. His horrible pink tongue that
- 21:43keeps coming out. Yeah, as he keeps licking his
- 21:46latex fingers covered in slightly Peaches.
- 21:49Oh, this bit made me die when the old fella falls.
- 21:52Out. Oh, I I laughed.
- 21:54I genuinely thought he died of old age.
- 21:57I forgot. There's an in stories for it.
- 21:59But this is basically what Willie Martha does.
- 22:03He's very meta. We're watching the same.
- 22:05Planet again, Dylan but but he's only 20 years old.
- 22:09Lina, Are you sure you just? Don't find that out for a while.
- 22:13And I was sitting here the other night going surely not.
- 22:16Surely he hasn't just died at all at.
- 22:20The moment we've we catch up with him, yeah, have we passed a
- 22:25bit where they go to the weapons dump and the fella comes out of
- 22:28the rocks, We're going to pass that bit.
- 22:30No, I don't know. Although the rebellion sort of
- 22:33happened, doesn't it? Or do they they go just before
- 22:35they rescue Perry later. I can't.
- 22:38Remember, I'm I'm more watching dilly.
- 22:40I'm waiting for another story about Pinups God 9.
- 22:45That is one of those. Lines they give Perry that
- 22:49Nicola Bryan cannot sell. You know, I think that's what's
- 22:52responsible for his premature aging.
- 22:55It's a line that nobody would say.
- 22:58It's a lot of dicking around in caves this though, isn't it?
- 23:00Like once you get over the initial look and it stays
- 23:03consistent that the the look is great.
- 23:06There's only a few sets, realistically, but they're
- 23:08recycling and well. But I think that's where blessed
- 23:10is a blessing, because he's so fun to watch.
- 23:14Nice. Well, funnily enough, Luke
- 23:17Malloy. That's one of the later
- 23:18Panopticans. Brian Blessed came and did a
- 23:20panel there and he was very entertaining.
- 23:23That's all I've got. I was, I was recording.
- 23:26I was recording with Ian Winston the other day and they were
- 23:28recording a commentary for this, right?
- 23:31And he said they got halfway to halfway through episode 2 and he
- 23:36went fuck me, I can't remember the celebrity's name.
- 23:40There he goes. There's a celebrity in my
- 23:42kitchen. I'm just doing something for Doc
- 23:44and this is all on the bloody commentary.
- 23:46Oh yeah, I've heard it. It's brilliant.
- 23:49Sorry, go on. No.
- 23:52I was going to say, have you heard the Brian Blessed playing
- 23:54Omega from Cutaway comics? This.
- 23:56No. If ever there was perfect
- 23:59casting. Yeah, it's it's a lot of fun.
- 24:02So mine mine was wildly off topic, but I just wanted to
- 24:05know, Joe, what's that quote from More journal dead with
- 24:09Tegan When she's like it's like travelling through a full
- 24:12blender. It's something along those
- 24:15lines, but I thought you might know it.
- 24:17That's pretty much it I think. She says something like, I mean
- 24:21half is it's something I can't remember what it.
- 24:23Is what? Why are you thinking of that?
- 24:25Just because you did a Perry accent before, it sounds like my
- 24:29Teagan. Yeah, sorry.
- 24:31That shot of F when Keith wakes up and sees sill and it sort of
- 24:35fades in his his face. It's just the last thing you'd
- 24:39want to see where he go. From contrast this right with
- 24:42time Lash, which also had Perry joining up a group of rebels,
- 24:46and they're also fucking boring. But you've got Brian Blessed
- 24:49who's just up for anything here. He's like, come on, well, I'll
- 24:52scout ahead. No, we'll all scout ahead.
- 24:54Come on, let's go. I I prefer time lash to this.
- 24:58You're mad. No, I.
- 25:01See. I think it's fun.
- 25:02I'm not a classic fan. I I watched Time Lash when I was
- 25:05a kid and thought it was great, and then learned that everyone
- 25:08hated it. It's just.
- 25:10It's the Rings of Akatin of the Classic series for you.
- 25:13The best thing about Time Lash is the bull rads make up.
- 25:16The rest of it is. Oh, I'm Paul Darrow.
- 25:18Paul Darrow. Yeah, no, I like the bit where
- 25:20the Android just appears in part one and then it gets sent back
- 25:23in time. Part 2.
- 25:25Great bit. Of timey wimey timey wimey.
- 25:28Now there was a bit of a flaw in in old Cosier's plot here.
- 25:34It's like I. Do.
- 25:37Crozier, Crozier, whatever. So gives brains too big for his
- 25:44head because he's expanding so much.
- 25:46So they put him in an identical body with an identical sized
- 25:50sized head. It's like, of course you're
- 25:52going to need a bigger head. But also, I don't think Perry's
- 25:55head is much bigger than that either.
- 25:57They need to find something with a massive head, yeah.
- 25:59But bigger once they put all her hair inside that bald cap.
- 26:03But they don't transfer, say the brain do.
- 26:04They transfer the the brain won't.
- 26:07No, but that's what. But it's hurting so much because
- 26:09the brain's getting bigger and pushing through his skull, isn't
- 26:12it? When he goes from one to the
- 26:14other one to the other mentor, yes, it's the whole brain.
- 26:18But when he goes from the other mentor to Perry, it is literally
- 26:21just the contents of his brain, but the personality.
- 26:24Yeah, but yeah, you have got a point.
- 26:27You've got a point. Well, it continues to.
- 26:28They need like a sensorite or something with a massive head.
- 26:31Why is his brain expanding anyway?
- 26:33Do they explain that? It's they're all to do with like
- 26:36transmogrification and stuff, aren't they?
- 26:38So they're trying, they do these experiments on other people, but
- 26:41they're really trying to better themselves.
- 26:43Oh, there's the man in the rocks, The polystyrene rocks
- 26:47that fall here. Oh, no.
- 26:51I've got a feeling they're going to get captured by the guards
- 26:53now. Martha's dad's going to come
- 26:54along. There he is.
- 26:55Are. We are we towards the end.
- 26:57Oh my God. At the end, they're flying
- 26:59through this. I don't like this cliffhanger
- 27:02though. I find it mad that we literally
- 27:04get a bloodbath here and the cliffhanger is still of Colin's.
- 27:10The floor. Wasn't there a decree?
- 27:13It has to be on Colin's face. Yeah, J&T always wanted to
- 27:17finish on Colin's face. Make that what you will.
- 27:20And because he has eaten all those pasties, man, he feels the
- 27:23scream, doesn't he Blesses our Although what went wrong with
- 27:29terror of the Verboys then? I swear, episode one ends of all
- 27:32those explosions in the Hydroponic Centre.
- 27:34Yeah. And it's the best cliffhanger of
- 27:35the season. But that's because they've got
- 27:39Bonnie Langford, who can scream in the key of the theme tune at
- 27:41that point. So it's it's the other director
- 27:44from Jay on to Jay on T Jay. Why?
- 27:46Else can she scream? Jaunty JMT I love the fact that
- 27:52look, even though he's been held at gunpoint now, he literally
- 27:54just takes a swing for him, doesn't he?
- 27:57It was an experiment. You're doing the animations
- 28:01wrong. Have you got £100 for the
- 28:06massacre? You said Crozier was the worst
- 28:09actor. I think it's Twoser.
- 28:11He's terrible. But twoser's too subtle.
- 28:14Didn't he end up in Brookside? I think he did, you know?
- 28:17Yeah. Everyone ends up in a soap of it
- 28:21we've. Not actually talked about it,
- 28:22but don't you just love Michael, Jason, It's the value.
- 28:25He's great, is it? It's such a defining feeling.
- 28:30I think Jane Baker said it best, you know, in the Terror of the
- 28:32Verve voice commentary. When she goes, you know, Colin,
- 28:35Michael and Linda are terrific. I don't care what you're all
- 28:38saying about the trial seems. And he's the perfect, you know,
- 28:42answer where you go with and it's and because it's not the
- 28:45master, it's just something more interesting.
- 28:48Now he looks. We don't even know yet, do we?
- 28:51Yeah, but we know it's not that. Well, I suppose you would know
- 28:53it's not of us. Yeah.
- 28:55Now he looks like a bit of beef jerky.
- 28:57He's such a shuffled old man that has smoked 4000 cigarettes
- 29:02a day for the entirety of his life.
- 29:04He's always hanging at the bar at the phantom conventions
- 29:07waiting for someone to buy him a drink.
- 29:09I'm also saying the the odd anti Jew common at the.
- 29:13Same time he's he's he's not. Yeah.
- 29:17I mean, I wasn't at his panel at the last convention I went to,
- 29:19but Mike Donaldson was and he said he said I only caught the
- 29:22end, but I did hear him say I'm not anti black or anti-gay but
- 29:26and everybody just. The trouble is, is they live
- 29:30YouTube these interviews, You know they should put a like a
- 29:3332nd delay just so they could edit.
- 29:36Did you hear John Levine's for oh, I can't remember the
- 29:42podcast. Quite recent, though.
- 29:44And it's like unfiltered. Levine.
- 29:45Yes. That's the one I keep telling
- 29:47everyone to listen to. No, I haven't heard where we
- 29:49asked the half an hour run about politicians.
- 29:53And and rapists, Yeah, And he's. Like and then he starts crying
- 29:56and going in. Such a terrible world.
- 29:58It's, it's. Fascinated.
- 30:00But that was the sirens of audio and I don't think they should
- 30:03put it out. He's an absolute fucking madman.
- 30:07I mean, they all are, aren't they?
- 30:09All these Michael Jason quickly like maybe he's a terrible
- 30:12person. Who knows.
- 30:14But he's a fucking good actor and he can he can even turn Pip
- 30:18and Jane dialogue into gold when he tries.
- 30:21There's a great being vervoids where Colin's going.
- 30:23No. You know everything would have
- 30:25made me prevent Aaron Jason cuts him down with.
- 30:28Yet you did not And it's like. The best thing you can say is
- 30:32that when Big Finish did do the final adventure, Colin Baker, it
- 30:38felt really fitting that it was the Valley Yard that would see
- 30:42him off. Do you know what?
- 30:43I can still remember the last two lines.
- 30:45He goes, the valley yard goes. What about your precious morals?
- 30:49Scruples, Dr. and Colin goes. They died with me.
- 30:54And the idea is that's when you become Sylvester Mccoy's, you
- 30:57know, morally ambiguous Dr. It's great.
- 31:00I would love to listen to that again.
- 31:01I don't think I'm really gay. And then the the the noise of
- 31:05the Ronnie's beams from terror at the time and Irani cuts in.
- 31:08Oh, that's great. I do remember you heard like a
- 31:10just a little bit of silver, just like the first thing of
- 31:13silver. Yeah, and then the same tune
- 31:15goes from the trial version into the McCoy version.
- 31:18They mix them in together. My God, do you ever when Big
- 31:21Finish used to actually work on the Really.
- 31:24At least at least to. Try.
- 31:27Back when it used to get your blood pumping, yeah.
- 31:31What gets your blood pumping now?
- 31:32Not once. In future, that's for sure.
- 31:35Viagra. It's just.
- 31:37Just to sort of mark the car when this is recorded tomorrow
- 31:41the the 2nd to last, Once and Future starring Caroline Ford is
- 31:45coming out so everyone will know when we recorded this now and
- 31:48we're all waiting it with bated breath.
- 31:51And then the one after that won't be out until, well, even
- 31:55after this time next year. What?
- 31:57There's one more. There's one more in November
- 32:002024. Oh my God, What the fuck is
- 32:04that? I've NT Gatwar as the Doctor.
- 32:08So do we know who's in the final one?
- 32:11No. Oh.
- 32:12God. And we don't know why it's
- 32:13delayed until 12:00. Well, I'm assuming delayed till.
- 32:162024 It's because Joe Martin's in it, isn't it?
- 32:19And Joe Martin's stuff's been delayed by the BBC.
- 32:23Yeah. Or or David Sayles.
- 32:25I've known the car be David say, OK, yeah, it's got to be that.
- 32:29Anyway, back to the Mindwarm commentary.
- 32:34Tell us, are you excited for Episode 4 and the Death, Perry?
- 32:38This is, yeah, I'm excited because it is.
- 32:40It's quite it's a unique episode of Doctor Who, isn't it?
- 32:43You don't get many episodes like part of your childhood Time
- 32:46Lord. Just like, don't.
- 32:48Just like Steven Moffat, the deaths all undone by the end of
- 32:51the story. As they should be.
- 32:54Boo. What kind of?
- 32:58There.
