Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey everyone, I'm Jackie Goldschneider. I'm Jen Fessler, and we
- 0:05Speaker 1: are two Jersey Jays. And Jen, you are freshly back
- 0:09Speaker 1: from La and a girls trip. How are you feeling?
- 0:13Speaker 2: It actually was? It was what was sort of a
- 0:15Speaker 2: girl's trip. I went to La so I told you this,
- 0:17Speaker 2: But Jeff has a conference every year in Laguna. It's
- 0:20Speaker 2: like the most fun. So I usually go for this conference.
- 0:23Speaker 2: This year just hoppen to coincide with a few things
- 0:26Speaker 2: that I was able to pull off, like the iHeart
- 0:30Speaker 2: Music Awards.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I had BAUMO.
- 0:34Speaker 2: It was so unbelievably over the top grade. It was
- 0:38Speaker 2: so much fun. Yeah, just got to like mix it
- 0:41Speaker 2: up with the likes of Benson Boone and Henry Winkler.
- 0:45Speaker 2: And oh, by the way, Zoe Winkler is we're going
- 0:49Speaker 2: to have her on the pod.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Yes, I know, I know, I don't know her at all.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Is she meeting zo?
- 0:57Speaker 2: She is a living doll? And so she's actually having
- 1:01Speaker 2: Ron Howard on. She wants us to come on hers
- 1:03Speaker 2: as well, but she's having oh like Ron Howard on next,
- 1:05Speaker 2: I believe.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Oh, so that's exciting. Yeah, and then you went to Texas?
- 1:09Speaker 2: Huh, so I was in Texas because I have these
- 1:13Speaker 2: three best friends from high school and one of them
- 1:16Speaker 2: is still is in Houston. So we've talked about it before,
- 1:18Speaker 2: but I grew up in Houston, and she's been wanting
- 1:22Speaker 2: us to join her at the rodeo. She's on all
- 1:24Speaker 2: these rodeo committees in Houston. So I was finally able
- 1:27Speaker 2: to do it, and it was the most fun. Oh
- 1:30Speaker 2: my god, an old Dominion was playing. Yeah, yeah, I
- 1:33Speaker 2: just I haven't been back to Texas in like thirty
- 1:35Speaker 2: five years. Well that's not true. I haven't been back
- 1:37Speaker 2: to Houston in thirty five years. And I got to
- 1:39Speaker 2: visit my old high school and.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Oh, that's so nice. That's really nicely great. I thought
- 1:44Speaker 1: you went to Texas more often than that. I went
- 1:46Speaker 1: to a rodeo and we went to Jackson Hall like
- 1:49Speaker 1: a year and a half ago, and we went to
- 1:51Speaker 1: a rodeo and it was so fun. I mean, the
- 1:55Speaker 1: energy there is just so different than it is here
- 1:58Speaker 1: on like the East Coast, you.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Know, oh one hundred. There's there were certain things, certain
- 2:03Speaker 2: aspects of it that I don't love, just I don't know,
- 2:05Speaker 2: being an animal lover, and I'm kind of unsure about
- 2:08Speaker 2: they say that they take such good care of the
- 2:09Speaker 2: animals at Rodeo, but I don't know. Some of it
- 2:12Speaker 2: was hard for me to watch. But anyway, having said that, anyway,
- 2:16Speaker 2: still fun.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Yeah, it was really really fun. Time you look refresh. Yes.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Oh and when I was at iHeart, I got to
- 2:24Speaker 2: meet one of the favorite one of my favorite people
- 2:26Speaker 2: that I got to meet was Tory Spelling.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Oh, which ties in perfectly today.
- 2:31Speaker 2: It does, Yes, it does.
- 2:34Speaker 1: I almost like don't want to meet my heroes because
- 2:37Speaker 1: like I have these women in my head as like
- 2:40Speaker 1: I just idolized them when I was a kid watching them.
- 2:44Speaker 1: You know, they're just a little bit older than I am,
- 2:46Speaker 1: and so when I was a young teen just watching
- 2:49Speaker 1: them on nine, O, two and O was just like
- 2:53Speaker 1: they were everything I do. I know.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, the same special yeah yeah, And she
- 3:00Speaker 2: was so warm, she was there was a kind of
- 3:03Speaker 2: like a kind of a barrier between us, but I
- 3:06Speaker 2: don't know, I kind of tapped her on the shoulder.
- 3:08Speaker 2: She turned around, she knew who we were, so that
- 3:11Speaker 2: just I was just labergasted by that. And then she kind
- 3:15Speaker 2: of like went over the divider to give me a
- 3:18Speaker 2: hug to take the picture she was such a doll.
- 3:22Speaker 2: I'm like, we're gonna talk. I mean, it's just this
- 3:24Speaker 2: is the nine o two one a week. I'm like
- 3:27Speaker 2: over the moon.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Yeah, that's amazing.
- 3:30Speaker 2: By the way, we have a very special guest today.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Yes, it is none other than Kelly Taylor herself, Jenny Garth.
- 3:40Speaker 1: I almost can't believe it because, like I, you know,
- 3:43Speaker 1: I just these people were never real to me, you know,
- 3:46Speaker 1: But she is actually quite She has lived quite an
- 3:49Speaker 1: interesting life from child star to you know, very interesting
- 3:55Speaker 1: relationship dynamics and a lot of really good work, creative work.
- 4:01Speaker 1: So I'm really excited to dig into all of it
- 4:03Speaker 1: with Harber. So Jenny, he's skyrocketed to start him with
- 4:09Speaker 1: her role as Kelly Taylor on Beverly Hills nine o
- 4:11Speaker 1: two and oh the original For anyone younger who's listening,
- 4:14Speaker 1: We're not talking about the one that came out ten
- 4:16Speaker 1: years ago, although I believe she might have been a
- 4:17Speaker 1: part of that also, we're talking about the real deal,
- 4:21Speaker 1: like the first the first go round, the show became
- 4:25Speaker 1: like a ratings success, lasting ten seasons and it remains
- 4:29Speaker 1: one of the most successful and iconic television series ever produced.
- 4:35Speaker 1: And then She's worked in a whole bunch of more
- 4:37Speaker 1: TV shows and films What I Like About You with
- 4:41Speaker 1: Amanda Vines, Hallmark Movies, Lifetime Movies, many more. She's an
- 4:47Speaker 1: entrepreneur with a fashion line Me by Jenny Garth. She's
- 4:50Speaker 1: the host of three different podcasts on iHeart Nine, O
- 4:53Speaker 1: two to one, MG, I Choose Me, and I Do
- 4:56Speaker 1: Part Two. She lives in LA with her husband Dave,
- 5:00Speaker 1: three daughters.
- 5:01Speaker 2: It's so funny think of Jenny Garth with three daughters
- 5:04Speaker 2: right now.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Well they're also are now they're like no adult all right,
- 5:08Speaker 1: well my age? I think no, No, the daughters are
- 5:11Speaker 1: like twenty or like nineteen, and.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Jenny's like my age. I mean you're younger, right.
- 5:16Speaker 1: I'm forty eight.
- 5:17Speaker 2: I think she's maybe early fifties.
- 5:20Speaker 1: No, yeah, early fifties, so right, rights back between us, Yeah,
- 5:25Speaker 1: like those younger listeners, whoever's out there listening to us
- 5:28Speaker 1: is even younger than us.
- 5:30Speaker 2: And trying to think of the equivalent, Jack, it would
- 5:32Speaker 2: be like.
- 5:32Speaker 1: I feel like middle aged. Like it's I don't think
- 5:36Speaker 1: of us as different ages.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Which I appear very much, being that we are ten
- 5:41Speaker 2: years apart.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Do you think of yourself as I'm not asking this
- 5:45Speaker 1: for you to freak out, but like almost sixty but
- 5:47Speaker 1: you're not. But like, is that the way you want that?
- 5:49Speaker 1: It doesn't.
- 5:49Speaker 2: First all, I don't at all freak out. I think
- 5:51Speaker 2: of I mean, fifty six. I'll be fifty seven in August,
- 5:56Speaker 2: so I guess I am on the other side of fifty, right.
- 6:00Speaker 2: You know, I don't know why it doesn't freak me out. Really,
- 6:03Speaker 2: it's uh and I almost feel very proud of it.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Yeah, you have a lot of things to show for it.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Yeah, we all do.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Well.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Hello, Jenny Garth By, We are so excited to have you.
- 6:25Speaker 2: I was just telling Jackie how I was at the
- 6:28Speaker 2: iHeart Awards this past week weekend and I got to
- 6:32Speaker 2: meet Tory and it was just so surreal. And I'm
- 6:37Speaker 2: talking to you now like it's just normal and you
- 6:39Speaker 2: and I chat on the phone all the time. But
- 6:42Speaker 2: it's for I think women and jet for Jackie too.
- 6:45Speaker 2: For us, it's like, yeah, women our age. It's hard
- 6:48Speaker 2: to even explain, Like I wish I want to say
- 6:51Speaker 2: to my daughter, she knows who you are, but but
- 6:54Speaker 2: it's I'm trying to think of the modern day Jenny
- 6:57Speaker 2: Garth for her It's huge for us, you guys, I mean,
- 6:59Speaker 2: we grew wanted to be. I alternated between you and Brenda.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Kelly and Brenda. Really, I think everyone did.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Everyone our age did. Yeah.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Most times it's one of the others.
- 7:10Speaker 2: And Donna and Donna yeah yeah, And that.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Was obviously your most I mean to me, your most
- 7:18Speaker 1: famous role. Is that what you consider your most famous role,
- 7:22Speaker 1: like the biggest role of your life?
- 7:24Speaker 3: And yeah, absolutely, that was my breakout role.
- 7:26Speaker 4: That was the role that gave me the life I
- 7:29Speaker 4: have now, Like without that show, without that role, playing
- 7:32Speaker 4: Kelly Taylor in my life would be completely different. And
- 7:34Speaker 4: I'm just I'm always just keep that in mind.
- 7:37Speaker 3: I'm so grateful for it.
- 7:38Speaker 4: But I've done other work that has, you know, been
- 7:40Speaker 4: fulfilling in different ways. But that is the show that
- 7:43Speaker 4: will go down that will be on my gravestone, you know.
- 7:47Speaker 2: I think for sure that, Yeah, I'm sure that's I
- 7:50Speaker 2: love that you're grateful for it like that, because I
- 7:51Speaker 2: would think that it times, you know, you're so when
- 7:55Speaker 2: a character becomes so iconic and follows you around, I
- 7:58Speaker 2: would think that at times it would also become a
- 8:00Speaker 2: little bit frustrating. But gratitude is ye.
- 8:03Speaker 3: It definitely really can.
- 8:04Speaker 4: But I mean I have always been really super in
- 8:07Speaker 4: touch with the fact that if I hadn't gotten that role,
- 8:10Speaker 4: my life wouldn't be what it is today.
- 8:11Speaker 3: And I think, you.
- 8:13Speaker 4: Know, I'm yeah, internally grateful for it.
- 8:18Speaker 1: So let's talk about what it's like to be an
- 8:21Speaker 1: eighteen year old suddenly thrust into fame. Because Jen and
- 8:24Speaker 1: I we found like dalist fame, a reality show fame
- 8:27Speaker 1: in middle age, and even that is overwhelming. But as
- 8:31Speaker 1: an eighteen year old, were you eighteen when you got
- 8:34Speaker 1: the role?
- 8:35Speaker 3: I see, go seventeen, but yeaheenah.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Yeah, to suddenly be you know, I assume that you
- 8:42Speaker 1: could have walked down the street without being stopped. What
- 8:45Speaker 1: was life? How did life change for you?
- 8:47Speaker 3: It was weird.
- 8:48Speaker 4: Yeah, the show didn't break out for like a good season,
- 8:52Speaker 4: and the second season when we started airing episodes that
- 8:56Speaker 4: were set at the beach, and that just got a huge.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Awareness across the world.
- 9:03Speaker 4: And I sort of went into this weird like I
- 9:06Speaker 4: can't leave the house mode, like a goraphobia. Yeah, but
- 9:11Speaker 4: I'm also a homebody, so it kind of works for me.
- 9:15Speaker 4: I love to be home and I it was it
- 9:19Speaker 4: was difficult, like just wherever we went it was I
- 9:23Speaker 4: can't even think of anything else to describe it as,
- 9:26Speaker 4: but like the Beatles, Like it felt like that because
- 9:29Speaker 4: there were just always people coming at us and throngs
- 9:33Speaker 4: and that made me want to stay home a lot.
- 9:36Speaker 2: So interesting. Do any of any of the other cast
- 9:38Speaker 2: members enjoy that thrive in that scenario, because I think
- 9:43Speaker 2: that there's even on again, like Jackie said, our b
- 9:46Speaker 2: List Reality TV cast World, but I think there are
- 9:51Speaker 2: some women that enjoyed a lot more than the others do.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Was was that the case with you guys, or was
- 9:57Speaker 2: that anyone shell shocked?
- 9:58Speaker 4: I really couldn't tell you what the others fully experienced
- 10:02Speaker 4: with it.
- 10:02Speaker 3: I know for me it was complete shell shock, complete
- 10:06Speaker 3: fish out of water feelings.
- 10:08Speaker 4: I'm a Midwestern girl. I'm as normal as they come,
- 10:12Speaker 4: and nobody in my family had ever had anything to
- 10:15Speaker 4: do with Hollywood or fame or anything like that. So
- 10:19Speaker 4: this was absolutely like way out of my comfort zone.
- 10:22Speaker 4: I think some people do thrive in that environment, and
- 10:26Speaker 4: I learned to make it work with my life, Like
- 10:29Speaker 4: I had to really keep that in my job category
- 10:34Speaker 4: in my box. That was like I go to work
- 10:35Speaker 4: and that's what happens. And then I come home and
- 10:37Speaker 4: then it's peace and I'm normal and I'm who I
- 10:40Speaker 4: am authentically. So there was a lot of learning to
- 10:43Speaker 4: live with fame that I went through over the years.
- 10:46Speaker 1: For sure. Yeah, well, you wouldn't have known it by
- 10:49Speaker 1: watching you. You always seemed to very like just perfect,
- 10:53Speaker 1: like Kelly Kelly Taylor and you just both seemed perfect.
- 10:58Speaker 3: What is perfect you?
- 11:00Speaker 1: Well, in my eyes, you know, as a kid watching
- 11:02Speaker 1: you like, you were the person I wanted to look
- 11:05Speaker 1: like and dress like and be like. And you are
- 11:07Speaker 1: the popular girl and when the show. So do you
- 11:11Speaker 1: keep in touch with your co stars asides from I
- 11:14Speaker 1: know you keep in such a story spelling yep, yep.
- 11:17Speaker 3: We I was just group chatting what do you call it? Texting?
- 11:21Speaker 4: Group texting with them yesterday, setting up some plans for
- 11:26Speaker 4: Ian's birthday.
- 11:26Speaker 3: We're all going to be together.
- 11:29Speaker 1: That's nice.
- 11:30Speaker 2: So we should actually tell you also how sorry you've
- 11:33Speaker 2: lost two of your cast met and the whole world was,
- 11:38Speaker 2: you know, just sort of prompt as I can't imagine
- 11:41Speaker 2: how hard it must have been for you all. You
- 11:43Speaker 2: seem to have been such a tight knit group and
- 11:45Speaker 2: for years and way too young for two of you, unfortunately,
- 11:49Speaker 2: to not be with us anymore, just terrible.
- 11:51Speaker 3: No, it doesn't make sense. It still doesn't make sense
- 11:53Speaker 3: for my brain, it's sure. And I.
- 11:57Speaker 4: Live in a world where they where they still are
- 11:59Speaker 4: a lot in my mind, so it's very, very hard
- 12:02Speaker 4: to understand that they're not here physically.
- 12:05Speaker 2: No doubt, no doubt. Yeah, there were.
- 12:09Speaker 1: See and zering at. My husband would always get very
- 12:13Speaker 1: frustrated by the fact that he was so old and
- 12:15Speaker 1: playing a teenager.
- 12:17Speaker 2: You would always and Andrew.
- 12:21Speaker 3: He was, Yeah, he was a few years older.
- 12:23Speaker 4: A lot of the cast was a few years older
- 12:25Speaker 4: than they were playing. Yeah, A couple of us, a
- 12:29Speaker 4: few of the three of us I think were very
- 12:31Speaker 4: like age similar.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure, yeah, says I. And by the way,
- 12:37Speaker 1: and I am sorry sorry. Yes. So when the show ended,
- 12:45Speaker 1: was it like did you know it was coming or
- 12:47Speaker 1: did it just like stop? And what was that adjustment
- 12:50Speaker 1: like for you for your life?
- 12:52Speaker 4: It was ten years I had had a baby at
- 12:55Speaker 4: the tail end of the show, so my life had
- 12:58Speaker 4: already started to go into its next phase. So luckily
- 13:03Speaker 4: when it ended, I had something to go put all
- 13:06Speaker 4: of my energy in, which was my daughter Luca, and
- 13:10Speaker 4: I really just dove deep into that being my purpose
- 13:14Speaker 4: and I loved it so much. I loved being a
- 13:16Speaker 4: mom so much that that was easy for me, and
- 13:19Speaker 4: staying home with her was easy for me, you know,
- 13:21Speaker 4: after so many years of getting up at five in
- 13:24Speaker 4: the morning to get to work by six and then
- 13:27Speaker 4: when the baby came, dragging her to work at six
- 13:30Speaker 4: am and having her there all day, fourteen hours a day.
- 13:33Speaker 4: It was a lot. And I was really looking forward
- 13:35Speaker 4: to just some peace in my life. And I had
- 13:37Speaker 4: that for a few years, and then I was like, ooh,
- 13:39Speaker 4: I need to work again.
- 13:40Speaker 3: I feel like that itch.
- 13:42Speaker 4: So that was when I went back out there and
- 13:44Speaker 4: tried something different. But it was a definite transition in life,
- 13:50Speaker 4: and I remember just not knowing what to do with myself,
- 13:53Speaker 4: like honestly, when to eat, when to go to the bathroom,
- 13:57Speaker 4: Because when you're working like that those kind of hours
- 14:01Speaker 4: every single day, literally your whole entire life is mapped
- 14:05Speaker 4: out by someone else on a call sheet and you
- 14:08Speaker 4: just follow the rules and the people telling you what
- 14:10Speaker 4: to do. So I was out there, I was like, wow, okay,
- 14:13Speaker 4: I guess I should go to the bathroom.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Now, do you feel like it was the acting piece.
- 14:19Speaker 2: It sounds like it was part that you missed and
- 14:22Speaker 2: you wanted to get back to that, but the fame
- 14:24Speaker 2: piece of it. And I always think about that myself
- 14:27Speaker 2: because when I was younger, I wanted to be an actress,
- 14:29Speaker 2: and I was not a very good one. But I
- 14:32Speaker 2: think that I didn't want to necessarily be an actress.
- 14:34Speaker 2: I think I just wanted to be famous and I
- 14:36Speaker 2: wanted to be on stage. You know. I think that's
- 14:39Speaker 2: sort of what drove me into reality TV obviously. But
- 14:42Speaker 2: do you is that part of it for you?
- 14:44Speaker 3: Do you?
- 14:45Speaker 2: Do you still because you're still obviously you're we have
- 14:48Speaker 2: a lot more to talk about other than nine O
- 14:49Speaker 2: two one zero. You're crazy busy. But is that part
- 14:52Speaker 2: that drives you at all? Or is it more sort
- 14:54Speaker 2: of like these roles and the acting piece of it.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Do you enjoy the fame or is it just at
- 14:59Speaker 2: this point is it just cumbersome?
- 15:00Speaker 1: Is it?
- 15:01Speaker 2: Is it, you know, annoying to you. I'm sure you
- 15:03Speaker 2: still can't walk down the street without being stopped, and.
- 15:06Speaker 4: No, I've I've tried to hide from it and that
- 15:11Speaker 4: worked for many years, and now at fifty, I just
- 15:14Speaker 4: decided to fully embrace it and accept this amazing sense of.
- 15:19Speaker 3: Community that I have with so much support and love.
- 15:23Speaker 4: You know, the fans of the original show have followed
- 15:25Speaker 4: me through to every aspect of my career, every endeavor,
- 15:28Speaker 4: and I have found such an enormous gratitude for them,
- 15:33Speaker 4: and there I feel like we are a community now
- 15:37Speaker 4: and I inspire them, they inspire me. So I'm definitely
- 15:41Speaker 4: not hiding from any of it and just really just
- 15:45Speaker 4: hunkering down and appreciating.
- 15:47Speaker 2: It right now, you can enjoy it.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I've had.
- 15:50Speaker 3: This kind of career that's lasted this many years is
- 15:53Speaker 3: not easy to come by in this in this business.
- 15:56Speaker 3: So I'm just so.
- 15:59Speaker 4: Honestly proud of myself for this kind of like endurance
- 16:02Speaker 4: and just grateful that I'm still able to work, you know.
- 16:06Speaker 1: And then the.
- 16:06Speaker 4: Drive comes from a supporting my family. B I'm just
- 16:14Speaker 4: a passionate, driven person and I'm a creative.
- 16:17Speaker 3: So I've got to keep moving. I've got to keep changing.
- 16:20Speaker 4: I like to move houses, I like to get different cars,
- 16:22Speaker 4: I like to change my furniture.
- 16:24Speaker 3: I feel like three husbands like I like change.
- 16:28Speaker 1: I love that I'm not that great with change. I'll
- 16:32Speaker 1: live in the same house until last time I moved
- 16:34Speaker 1: fifteen years ago. I told my husband we will I'm
- 16:36Speaker 1: not moving in till I'm good. I'm not.
- 16:38Speaker 2: I can't stand it. That's what my husband says.
- 16:41Speaker 3: He says, I'm dying in this house. I was like, well,
- 16:44Speaker 3: I probably won't.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Be to be dying alone.
- 16:48Speaker 1: So, but you have a lot of projects, so let's
- 16:51Speaker 1: let's talk about it. I'm most I'm really interested in
- 16:53Speaker 1: your clothing line, because that's sort of out and right.
- 16:57Speaker 1: That's like not in line with like all of the
- 17:00Speaker 1: acting and podcasting and writing. Tell us about the clothing line.
- 17:06Speaker 1: You've had that for a while.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Yes, yes, I had.
- 17:11Speaker 4: I had been working with QVC on another project, and
- 17:14Speaker 4: through that experience, I just formed some relationships with.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Them, and they came to me and asked me if
- 17:21Speaker 3: I wanted to do my own line.
- 17:23Speaker 4: And I was so taken back, like I was like, wow, okay,
- 17:29Speaker 4: I can do that. But it was like something I
- 17:31Speaker 4: had never done before, and entering into a whole new
- 17:33Speaker 4: world of business, the fashion business and design and learning how.
- 17:38Speaker 3: To you know, stay on deadline and deliver.
- 17:41Speaker 4: And there's so many parts of it that I had
- 17:43Speaker 4: never done, so I was like, ooh, challenged, Yes.
- 17:46Speaker 3: Please, I will do that.
- 17:48Speaker 4: And so that, you know, because I had before that,
- 17:52Speaker 4: I had started to kind of really zero in on
- 17:55Speaker 4: what I wanted for the next chapter.
- 17:56Speaker 3: Of my life, and it didn't involve acting.
- 17:59Speaker 4: It didn't involve waiting around for projects to come to
- 18:03Speaker 4: me and then being told like what somebody else's vision was.
- 18:08Speaker 4: I wanted to really move forward with all the things
- 18:11Speaker 4: inside of me might fulfill that creative part of me.
- 18:15Speaker 3: And I'm you.
- 18:17Speaker 4: Know, saying no to acting for a while has been
- 18:21Speaker 4: really scary and it feels risky, but I keep just
- 18:25Speaker 4: telling myself it's okay, you're gonna be You're going to go,
- 18:29Speaker 4: You're gonna be fine. And so I'm kind of in
- 18:32Speaker 4: that vein right now, just entrepreneurship and also just building
- 18:37Speaker 4: my brand, not just with fashion, but it's the backbone
- 18:41Speaker 4: of the brand is really about reminding women that we
- 18:46Speaker 4: have the opportunity in every moment to choose ourselves and
- 18:51Speaker 4: that for me, you know, it's just kind of the
- 18:54Speaker 4: backbone of everything that the brand does, whether it's fashion,
- 18:57Speaker 4: whether it's the podcast, whether it's the live event and
- 19:01Speaker 4: more to come.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Like I'm just I'm so.
- 19:03Speaker 4: Happy to have found that passion that I can build
- 19:06Speaker 4: upon for my future and you know what, for the
- 19:09Speaker 4: future of my family, Like when I'm gone, I want
- 19:11Speaker 4: them to have something that they can do whatever they
- 19:14Speaker 4: want with it.
- 19:15Speaker 3: But I want to be able to leave them with stuff,
- 19:17Speaker 3: you know, some things.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Yeah, how did you get there?
- 19:21Speaker 1: So?
- 19:22Speaker 2: I mean, you know, we could follow the journey of
- 19:25Speaker 2: your life, but was it therapy? Was there a point
- 19:28Speaker 2: at which you were like, you know, kind of digging deeper.
- 19:32Speaker 2: I mean, I'm fifty six years old, so I've gone
- 19:34Speaker 2: through many transitions in my life and you know, trying
- 19:37Speaker 2: to figure out what really is going to fulfill me
- 19:41Speaker 2: at any point, right What ful fills me now at
- 19:43Speaker 2: fifty six certainly was very different than what did when
- 19:45Speaker 2: I was thirty and having babies. But was there did
- 19:49Speaker 2: you have some kind of an aha moment where you
- 19:52Speaker 2: sort of, you know, thought, Okay, I'm going to put
- 19:54Speaker 2: acting aside and it's not doing it for me anymore.
- 19:58Speaker 4: I had a long period of sort of feeling really
- 20:02Speaker 4: stuck and lost and unclear about what I wanted to do.
- 20:08Speaker 3: And I think so many of us.
- 20:10Speaker 4: Go through at least one of those in our lives,
- 20:12Speaker 4: if not many, where you're like, I don't know what
- 20:15Speaker 4: I want, I don't know what I'm good at.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Like, I don't know where where can I go that
- 20:21Speaker 3: is has a place for me.
- 20:24Speaker 4: And so I just really sat with that for a
- 20:25Speaker 4: long time, and honestly, I was I'm a person that.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Manages depression. I've always had it, so I just.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Thought, Oh, I'm in a lull, It'll be fine, I'll
- 20:35Speaker 4: come back up, It'll be great. But it took a
- 20:37Speaker 4: lot a long time. And I had done a ton
- 20:40Speaker 4: of therapy. I had done a lot of self work
- 20:43Speaker 4: after my divorce, and I really felt the benefits of that,
- 20:47Speaker 4: but I was still kind of lost, and I thought,
- 20:50Speaker 4: you know, I had to really get specific about what
- 20:54Speaker 4: I wanted for my future, and I had to envision
- 20:57Speaker 4: exactly what I wanted my life to be like moving forward.
- 21:00Speaker 4: And I did that with a vision board, quite honestly,
- 21:03Speaker 4: and really really.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Like a literal one like you got out the poster
- 21:07Speaker 2: board and yeah.
- 21:08Speaker 3: Yeah, no whiteboard.
- 21:10Speaker 4: I have all my ideas on it, which is one
- 21:13Speaker 4: entire whiteboard, but also like all of the things I
- 21:16Speaker 4: want my life to be like like, and I have
- 21:19Speaker 4: pictures and you know, I really didn't believe in that before,
- 21:23Speaker 4: but I just sat with it and would stare at
- 21:25Speaker 4: it and think hmm, and not have any clue how
- 21:29Speaker 4: to get all of those get there, get to whatever
- 21:32Speaker 4: was up there on that whiteboard.
- 21:33Speaker 3: And the more I looked at it, and the more
- 21:35Speaker 3: I kept it in.
- 21:36Speaker 4: The forefront front of my mind on a daily basis,
- 21:40Speaker 4: it just started to fall into place in the most
- 21:43Speaker 4: magical way. And I think it just became that like
- 21:47Speaker 4: getting still with something, realizing what you want, and then
- 21:50Speaker 4: taking the steps to get there.
- 21:52Speaker 3: And it's it.
- 21:53Speaker 4: Sounds so overwhelming, but if you break it down into steps,
- 21:58Speaker 4: it's something we can all do.
- 21:59Speaker 3: And I always thought of it as like having a
- 22:03Speaker 3: little ball, like a rubber ball.
- 22:04Speaker 4: And pushing it up a mountain with my nose and
- 22:07Speaker 4: like just trying to get the ball, and we come
- 22:09Speaker 4: back down and then I push you back up again
- 22:11Speaker 4: and then we'll come back down a little bit. So
- 22:13Speaker 4: for me, that's what life has been like. And I
- 22:16Speaker 4: feel like I'm like on the sort of all plateau
- 22:19Speaker 4: of the mountain right now, feeling very safe, feeling very
- 22:21Speaker 4: good about where I am.
- 22:23Speaker 3: But there's always a bigger mountain to climb. You know,
- 22:25Speaker 3: if you.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Want that, I love that. I love that because I do.
- 22:29Speaker 1: I think both of us feel sort of at a
- 22:31Speaker 1: crossroads right now. I know, at least I do. Our
- 22:33Speaker 1: show that we've always had is paused, and we're kind
- 22:37Speaker 1: of considering what the next parts of our you know,
- 22:40Speaker 1: I have children who are going to be leaving the
- 22:42Speaker 1: home in a few years, and and I just am
- 22:46Speaker 1: trying to figure out the rest of my life and
- 22:49Speaker 1: what I want. So that vision board, you know, I
- 22:50Speaker 1: never really considered making one, but if it, if you're
- 22:53Speaker 1: telling me about it.
- 22:54Speaker 2: I'm right, I feel so like I'm fascinated by it.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Will you give us an example of just one thing
- 23:00Speaker 2: on the vision board, like I'm trying to picture myself actually,
- 23:04Speaker 2: you know, taking run it, what's here, scrambled in here,
- 23:07Speaker 2: put it out there, onto side, start.
- 23:10Speaker 3: With putting it, throwing it all up there.
- 23:12Speaker 4: Just get it out of here and put it up
- 23:14Speaker 4: on a board where you're actually seeing all the things
- 23:16Speaker 4: that are in your head. And then you start to
- 23:19Speaker 4: sort of some of them rise to the top, and
- 23:22Speaker 4: then the ones that rise to the top energetically, opportunities
- 23:27Speaker 4: will come to you that will fit with those. It's
- 23:31Speaker 4: there's something about you know, definitely about envisioning the life
- 23:35Speaker 4: you want and really getting specific about it, and then
- 23:39Speaker 4: once your mind is in that energetic place, things will
- 23:44Speaker 4: come to you. It is I can't really explain it.
- 23:48Speaker 4: It's just the way it is, and I.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Feel it's you are explaining it. I just I love specifics,
- 23:53Speaker 2: like I work so well. I can't be big, you know,
- 23:56Speaker 2: sort of dream of something, make it happen has never
- 23:59Speaker 2: worked for me. I want to know. Okay, so I'm
- 24:01Speaker 2: going to go out to Staples and I'm going to
- 24:03Speaker 2: buy the piece of post word.
- 24:04Speaker 3: You can get a poster, order a white board.
- 24:06Speaker 1: I like a white yeah, I mean it like I like.
- 24:10Speaker 2: I like instructions.
- 24:12Speaker 3: Yes, okay, get a bose. Then put it all up
- 24:14Speaker 3: on the board. Get all your ideas out, you.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Know, you give us an example, like what was one
- 24:18Speaker 2: of the ones. Hell's one of the ones that you
- 24:19Speaker 2: put up there.
- 24:21Speaker 4: And then the one for twenty twenty four was start
- 24:26Speaker 4: my brand, start a brand, Start my brand, and I
- 24:29Speaker 4: had specifically start me by Jenny Garth.
- 24:31Speaker 3: That was the brand, and.
- 24:34Speaker 4: I had no concept of how I was going to
- 24:37Speaker 4: do it. I had I've never started a brand from
- 24:41Speaker 4: I have started a brand from the ground up with
- 24:43Speaker 4: a partner, but I had never done it solo, and
- 24:45Speaker 4: so I knew how to do it step by step.
- 24:49Speaker 4: It was just a matter of like hunkering down and
- 24:51Speaker 4: doing the work, because it is a nine to six
- 24:56Speaker 4: pm job.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Every single day I.
- 24:58Speaker 4: Go into my office, I submer urge myself in the
- 25:01Speaker 4: world that I want to create with, you know, those
- 25:05Speaker 4: inspirational messages in front of me, and then I just work.
- 25:09Speaker 3: I make calls, I send emails, I.
- 25:11Speaker 4: Think about who do I know, what doors could I
- 25:15Speaker 4: find that are slightly open, and then those are the
- 25:18Speaker 4: things that sort of fall into place.
- 25:22Speaker 3: One of the things, you know, one of the.
- 25:24Speaker 4: Things has always to make sure I'm creating in a
- 25:27Speaker 4: daily a date on my daily calendar, me time where
- 25:32Speaker 4: you know, whether it's going to the gym, whether it's
- 25:34Speaker 4: going and taking a nice bath, doing like a whole
- 25:37Speaker 4: skincare moment for myself, whether it's eating healthy, prepping my food.
- 25:41Speaker 3: You know, all those things are part of the whole picture.
- 25:44Speaker 4: So you have to really think about what your balanced
- 25:47Speaker 4: life will look like, and so the specifics of it
- 25:51Speaker 4: are just as important as doing it.
- 25:53Speaker 3: You know, it's just you've got to really visualize it.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I love that. Yeah.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Do you feel happier now at your age? And so
- 26:00Speaker 2: I've also battled pression and anxiety and all of that.
- 26:02Speaker 2: But as I've gotten older, I feel better about myself,
- 26:07Speaker 2: about my life. I mean, and it's funny, right, it
- 26:09Speaker 2: seems antithetical to aging, but I feel more calm and
- 26:17Speaker 2: peaceful and like I have just more of a sense
- 26:20Speaker 2: of self. Are you, And I'm thinking about you, coming
- 26:21Speaker 2: from such fame and fortunate at such a young age,
- 26:25Speaker 2: you probably I would think that you feel even calmer
- 26:28Speaker 2: and better about yourself now than maybe when you were seventeen.
- 26:31Speaker 4: Absolutely, I mean in my early life I was thrown
- 26:35Speaker 4: into this world such a fish out of water, really
- 26:40Speaker 4: trying struggling to figure out my place and how.
- 26:44Speaker 3: To maintain my own sense of self within it all.
- 26:49Speaker 3: And that was really hard for me.
- 26:50Speaker 4: I mean, not to mention, my job was stepping into
- 26:54Speaker 4: somebody else's shoes every day, putting on a different character,
- 26:57Speaker 4: whatever the job was. So it's been a lot of
- 27:00Speaker 4: my time not even being myself. It was being another somebody,
- 27:04Speaker 4: whoever the character was I was portraying, And so I
- 27:07Speaker 4: really lost myself along.
- 27:08Speaker 3: The way, I.
- 27:10Speaker 4: Didn't have, you know, And I'm kind of the person
- 27:13Speaker 4: too that loses themselves in I've lost myself in motherhood.
- 27:17Speaker 3: I lost myself in.
- 27:18Speaker 4: My relationship, and it took a lot of work to
- 27:23Speaker 4: reclaim my identity and fall back in love with myself
- 27:27Speaker 4: first and foremost. And I think that when you reach
- 27:30Speaker 4: that point where you can honestly tell yourself I love
- 27:33Speaker 4: you and I'm going to take care of you today,
- 27:35Speaker 4: that's the point when your life just starts to blossom
- 27:40Speaker 4: and it's indescribable.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Was that reason that realization?
- 27:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I turned fifty and I was like, Okay, I've
- 27:47Speaker 4: got to get my shit together. I need to have
- 27:50Speaker 4: some I need to figure out my purpose. I need
- 27:52Speaker 4: to have that drive that I know is inside of
- 27:54Speaker 4: me and there are things that I know I'm destined
- 27:57Speaker 4: to do. But I was just afraid. I was frozen
- 28:01Speaker 4: with fear, and I was I didn't think there was
- 28:06Speaker 4: room for me. Like you look, say you want to
- 28:09Speaker 4: start a skincare line.
- 28:13Speaker 3: There's a million skincare lines.
- 28:15Speaker 4: Out there, right and you look on the internet and
- 28:17Speaker 4: you're seeing your feet and you're like, oh my gosh,
- 28:19Speaker 4: look how beautiful that is? And look how successful they are,
- 28:22Speaker 4: and wow, that's such a cool group of women. And
- 28:25Speaker 4: once I stop thinking like I'm watching it and started
- 28:28Speaker 4: thinking like I'm in it with them, Like I found
- 28:31Speaker 4: this like ability to find my seat at that table
- 28:36Speaker 4: within my own concept. You know.
- 28:38Speaker 1: I love that because I'm going through the same thing
- 28:41Speaker 1: right now. I just started my second book and I'm like, well,
- 28:43Speaker 1: I'm never going to write it as well as like
- 28:45Speaker 1: all these people on the bestseller list, But I have
- 28:47Speaker 1: to stop. I have to just think of myself as
- 28:49Speaker 1: one of them. Right, So you just have to think.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Of yourself every day.
- 28:54Speaker 4: Remind yourself to go back to the who you are
- 28:57Speaker 4: at your core, what makes you authentic to yourself, and
- 29:01Speaker 4: just stop trying to be what anybody else thinks or
- 29:04Speaker 4: wants or expects, but just come back to I am enough.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Like I know it sounds corny and but it's so true.
- 29:12Speaker 4: Like just on the way home from the gym, I
- 29:14Speaker 4: was like, oh my god, I love myself so much.
- 29:17Speaker 4: I was like doing my affirmations in the car. And
- 29:20Speaker 4: it's daily practice. It's daily work.
- 29:22Speaker 3: If you want to know.
- 29:23Speaker 1: It's also probably staying off of social media because that's
- 29:26Speaker 1: a landscape where everybody tells you who you are, and
- 29:29Speaker 1: especially as a reality persona where you're living your real
- 29:33Speaker 1: life and the cameras they tell you know how well
- 29:36Speaker 1: you're living or if you're you know, doing well at
- 29:39Speaker 1: life or not. And it's really like you can convince
- 29:42Speaker 1: yourself of the majority opinion on there when.
- 29:45Speaker 3: Absolutely and you can.
- 29:46Speaker 1: I mean, I do it.
- 29:47Speaker 4: I don't scroll doom scrolling they call it, right, and
- 29:52Speaker 4: I get into a real place of compare despair, Like
- 29:56Speaker 4: when I start looking to everybody else's perfect lives and
- 30:00Speaker 4: how accomplished and successful and fun it looks, I go
- 30:05Speaker 4: to a place that's not healthy for me, like and
- 30:07Speaker 4: I have to stay I have to stay away from it.
- 30:10Speaker 4: And that's a daily choice to just stay focused on
- 30:14Speaker 4: the prize for myself and for my family and not
- 30:16Speaker 4: let all that other stuff get in my head because
- 30:19Speaker 4: I are you able.
- 30:20Speaker 1: To do it?
- 30:21Speaker 3: With it in there?
- 30:22Speaker 2: Are you able to stop? I mean, I've tried made
- 30:24Speaker 2: this promise to myself, and every day I'm still not
- 30:27Speaker 2: there yet I get sucked back into the abyss. I
- 30:30Speaker 2: mean it's so depressing because I know that days that
- 30:36Speaker 2: I don't do it, hours that I don't get stuck scrolling.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Are happier hours, yeah, more peaceful hours, right, But I
- 30:43Speaker 2: still still it pulls me back in.
- 30:45Speaker 4: I know, I'll find myself dipping in a little bit,
- 30:48Speaker 4: Like I'll go in and try and do I like
- 30:50Speaker 4: to engage with my with my friends on there, and
- 30:55Speaker 4: I will be like and then I'll all sudden by
- 30:58Speaker 4: myself scrolling and I'm like, ohoa, we're not doing that.
- 31:00Speaker 4: We have other things that are more important than this.
- 31:03Speaker 4: So you just got to talk yourself down.
- 31:14Speaker 1: So you're three girls there are they're adults now, right?
- 31:19Speaker 1: I mean there were always little girls on the red
- 31:21Speaker 1: carpet with you. Are they are they home? Are you
- 31:23Speaker 1: empty nesting?
- 31:26Speaker 4: I'm about to officially enter into the empty nests zone
- 31:31Speaker 4: my eighteen year old graduating.
- 31:33Speaker 3: It's the last. However, I have a daughter that moved
- 31:36Speaker 3: back in with me, uh.
- 31:38Speaker 4: So, which I love, Like I'm not compained at all,
- 31:41Speaker 4: But she still feels like she is fulling the coop.
- 31:45Speaker 4: So I kind of feel like a roommate with her now, which.
- 31:48Speaker 1: Is how I love. Yeah, and you're all.
- 31:52Speaker 3: Doing their own things, which is amazing.
- 31:54Speaker 1: That's really great. It's great to watch your kids just
- 31:56Speaker 1: succeed in life. It is many actresses been married. You've
- 31:59Speaker 1: been married to Dave is your third husband? You said, yeah, yeah, okay,
- 32:05Speaker 1: and there's a nine year age gap. Was that difficult
- 32:09Speaker 1: to navigate? Was it? Did you not feel it?
- 32:13Speaker 3: I definitely considered it.
- 32:15Speaker 4: In the very beginning, I knew that we were in
- 32:18Speaker 4: two different sort of developmental places because I had just
- 32:23Speaker 4: come out of doing a ton and ton a ton
- 32:25Speaker 4: of self work and going on solo trips and you know,
- 32:29Speaker 4: seeking out all the things I could find to enrich myself.
- 32:33Speaker 3: And he was not in that space yet.
- 32:36Speaker 4: But we fell for each other and he fulfilled a
- 32:40Speaker 4: lot of different parts of me, Like he brought in
- 32:42Speaker 4: this beautiful levity, and he made our family feel that
- 32:46Speaker 4: laughter again, which we had kind of lost after the divorce.
- 32:50Speaker 4: And yeah, and he and his young that young side
- 32:54Speaker 4: of him was really fun for me. But I later
- 32:58Speaker 4: learned that he's basically an eighty eight old man in
- 33:01Speaker 4: a forty four year old body, which actually works for
- 33:04Speaker 4: me because, like I said, I'm a homebody.
- 33:07Speaker 3: I love to just be with my family and he
- 33:09Speaker 3: does too.
- 33:10Speaker 4: But it was it is something and we just actually
- 33:14Speaker 4: talked about it recently the other day that that gap,
- 33:18Speaker 4: that age gap is never going to go away. We
- 33:22Speaker 4: might feel like we're the same age because we're you know,
- 33:25Speaker 4: always together and doing the same things, but developmentally, I
- 33:30Speaker 4: am nine years ahead of him, and we all know women,
- 33:34Speaker 4: well most women, some women kind of evolve quicker than men.
- 33:39Speaker 4: So it's about like looking at where each of us
- 33:42Speaker 4: are and respecting that and trying, for me, trying to
- 33:46Speaker 4: not have any expectations of him being where I am
- 33:50Speaker 4: all the time and letting him be where he is,
- 33:52Speaker 4: which is almost a decade difference, you know, and that's
- 33:57Speaker 4: there's so much growth that happens, especially well in every
- 34:01Speaker 4: decade of your life. But I found so much for
- 34:04Speaker 4: me personally in my forties into my fifties. A lot
- 34:07Speaker 4: of people feel it in their thirties. But I always
- 34:09Speaker 4: say I'm kind of ten years behind because I was
- 34:12Speaker 4: on nine or two and zero for ten years and
- 34:15Speaker 4: that was such a bubble experience of not developing normally.
- 34:20Speaker 3: So I've always said I'm like ten years behind.
- 34:22Speaker 4: But yeah, that the age difference, well, it doesn't feel
- 34:26Speaker 4: like it day to day.
- 34:28Speaker 3: You have to do you have to kind of step
- 34:29Speaker 3: back and look big picture and recognize.
- 34:31Speaker 2: Right, you know, I go, it doesn't feel like that
- 34:33Speaker 2: big of an age difference to me, maybe because I
- 34:36Speaker 2: know it's ten years and ten years my husband and
- 34:38Speaker 2: I are almost seven years apart. He's older, but maybe
- 34:43Speaker 2: because he is the man that he just still is younger.
- 34:46Speaker 4: No, it's definitely a different dynamic when the man is
- 34:49Speaker 4: older than the woman.
- 34:50Speaker 3: Woman is older.
- 34:51Speaker 4: Than the man in the relationship and she's successful and
- 34:55Speaker 4: completely independent.
- 34:56Speaker 3: There are so many different things that come into play.
- 35:02Speaker 1: How did you meet Dave?
- 35:03Speaker 2: How did you meet him?
- 35:04Speaker 4: We met a blind double date, like a setup with
- 35:09Speaker 4: a double another couple, and that's when.
- 35:12Speaker 2: I yeah, I never heard of that. That's clever, that
- 35:16Speaker 2: it was a setup.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Did you so you had a difficult divorce from Peter Practice, I.
- 35:22Speaker 4: Would say in behind closed doors it was extremely difficult.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Yes, was that? Did you think that you would find
- 35:28Speaker 1: love again?
- 35:31Speaker 3: No?
- 35:32Speaker 4: No, I didn't want to find love again. I was
- 35:34Speaker 4: so really Now, after I got over the trauma and
- 35:39Speaker 4: the pain and like gluing myself somehow back together into
- 35:43Speaker 4: this new form of a human, I was like, yeah,
- 35:48Speaker 4: I'm good.
- 35:49Speaker 3: I don't want to date, I don't want to do anything.
- 35:51Speaker 3: And then people started to like, you should go on
- 35:53Speaker 3: this go to dinner with this guy.
- 35:55Speaker 4: I know, Okay, I'll try it, I'll practice. And as
- 35:58Speaker 4: I started to do that, I start to really get
- 36:01Speaker 4: very clear on what I didn't want moving forward. So
- 36:06Speaker 4: it was easy for me to make a list of
- 36:08Speaker 4: like my non negotiables, the things that I was looking
- 36:10Speaker 4: for in a partner, and the things that really just
- 36:12Speaker 4: wouldn't work for me moving forward in my life. And
- 36:14Speaker 4: I was able to really define those and I had
- 36:18Speaker 4: to give and take on some of them for sure,
- 36:21Speaker 4: and also just allow for Dave to.
- 36:24Speaker 3: Have growth in his life, you know.
- 36:26Speaker 4: I mean, he's a completely different person than he was
- 36:29Speaker 4: when I met him.
- 36:30Speaker 3: He's a different person than he was yesterday.
- 36:32Speaker 4: Like I really believe in allowing yourself to evolve on
- 36:36Speaker 4: a daily basis.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Yeah, you have a podcast dedicated to remarriage divorce. I
- 36:48Speaker 1: do Part two. Yes, it's another iHeart podcast, one of
- 36:51Speaker 1: three that you host currently.
- 36:54Speaker 4: Yeah, I have OG which is the Rewatch Have I
- 36:58Speaker 4: Choose Me, which is my solo project in kind of
- 37:01Speaker 4: in the health and wellness space, And I have I
- 37:05Speaker 4: Do Part two, which is Yeah, finding Love the second time.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Actually I've been doing I've been hosting some of them myself. Yeah,
- 37:14Speaker 2: I'm married. Yeah, I'm married twenty five years. But my
- 37:18Speaker 2: husband and I were separated for a year and a
- 37:21Speaker 2: half and it was you know, it's it's a very
- 37:25Speaker 2: different thing than what I picture that it would be
- 37:28Speaker 2: coming back together. I mean, everybody has that story. I
- 37:31Speaker 2: guess on some level. Everybody changes and relationships evolve and
- 37:33Speaker 2: they change, and there's always a part two. I feel
- 37:36Speaker 2: like sometimes it's you know, it's divorce, or it's separation,
- 37:40Speaker 2: or unfortunately sometimes people are widowed. But it's very interesting.
- 37:43Speaker 2: I feel like this second time around, and even though
- 37:45Speaker 2: I've been married, I've definitely there are different dynamics in
- 37:49Speaker 2: my marriage than I ever thought that there would be.
- 37:51Speaker 2: But I think it's such a fascinating topic, right.
- 37:54Speaker 3: It really is. The relationships are not easy.
- 37:58Speaker 4: It's not I don't know if it's natural for you
- 38:01Speaker 4: to meet somebody a complete stranger and then be with
- 38:05Speaker 4: them twenty four hours a day, every single day, for
- 38:09Speaker 4: the rest of your life, Like that's a big commitment.
- 38:12Speaker 1: Amen.
- 38:14Speaker 4: Yeah, So I think it's just about allowing each person
- 38:17Speaker 4: to have their individuality and then really cherishing that middle
- 38:22Speaker 4: space that you both share and that you both put
- 38:24Speaker 4: energy into that's your relationship, but really maintaining those that
- 38:28Speaker 4: you are your own unique, you know, whole and complete
- 38:32Speaker 4: humans without one of them.
- 38:34Speaker 1: I love that. And Peter came on the podcast.
- 38:36Speaker 3: Correct, Yeah, and yeah, Peter was on the podcast. He
- 38:39Speaker 3: was on I Choose Me?
- 38:41Speaker 1: And how was that for you guys? Was that healing
- 38:43Speaker 1: at all?
- 38:44Speaker 3: Or it was?
- 38:46Speaker 4: I was very uneasy going in. I didn't know what
- 38:50Speaker 4: was going to happen. I didn't really even have anything prepared.
- 38:52Speaker 4: I just wanted to sit down on a couch with them.
- 38:54Speaker 4: We had never sat and down and talked. It was
- 38:56Speaker 4: always texting. Wow, it was always emailing and just like
- 39:02Speaker 4: budding heads constantly for.
- 39:04Speaker 2: I cannot believe he agreed to that. This is some
- 39:06Speaker 2: brain I know to.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Do it publicly. It was so scary and brave.
- 39:09Speaker 3: I know. Well.
- 39:10Speaker 4: I really went to him and I said, A, nothing
- 39:13Speaker 4: will go out that you don't want to go out,
- 39:15Speaker 4: and b why don't we use our story to help
- 39:18Speaker 4: other people see that they can do it, they can
- 39:21Speaker 4: get through this because it was very difficult for us,
- 39:26Speaker 4: and I think through sharing our story it made us closer.
- 39:30Speaker 3: It kind of closed that loop of.
- 39:35Speaker 4: Anger and pain and resentment and It sort of put
- 39:38Speaker 4: us on a level of we have a friendship now
- 39:40Speaker 4: and a newfound respect for one another because I had
- 39:45Speaker 4: never heard him say the things that he told me
- 39:47Speaker 4: on that podcast really and it was really interesting.
- 39:51Speaker 3: I didn't do much talking. I just literally let him talk,
- 39:54Speaker 3: and so much poured out of him.
- 39:56Speaker 4: It was really, I think, good for him, it was
- 39:58Speaker 4: good for me, and it was definitely good for our daughters.
- 40:01Speaker 1: Oh so that's great. You feel like your co parenting
- 40:03Speaker 1: relationship changed after that?
- 40:05Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely.
- 40:07Speaker 1: Wow, amazing And how is everything today?
- 40:10Speaker 3: Everything today is, you know, much better.
- 40:14Speaker 4: We stayed at his house during the fires, like I
- 40:17Speaker 4: feel comfortable, like saying, you know, we need a home
- 40:21Speaker 4: to stay in, can we come to yours? And he
- 40:23Speaker 4: was yes, of course, And we spend time together. We
- 40:27Speaker 4: can go to dinner together. We can hang out.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Now you go to dinner together?
- 40:31Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 40:32Speaker 2: Wait? Is he remarried?
- 40:33Speaker 3: He is engaged and he has a two year old baby.
- 40:38Speaker 2: Wow, that's huge. That's not easy to get there.
- 40:41Speaker 4: It really isn't. But there was so much Like I
- 40:45Speaker 4: was starting to feel like I was holding on to
- 40:48Speaker 4: the anger and the pain, and I started to recognize
- 40:51Speaker 4: a bitterness in myself and it's just an overall negative.
- 40:56Speaker 3: Feeling like a cloud. And I was said to myself.
- 41:00Speaker 4: I do not want this moving forward. This is not
- 41:04Speaker 4: the me I want to be, and I really how
- 41:06Speaker 4: to just release it, work really hard to release it,
- 41:11Speaker 4: because at the end of the day, you guys, it
- 41:12Speaker 4: does not matter.
- 41:14Speaker 3: Nothing matters.
- 41:15Speaker 4: All the arguments, all the disagreements, all the issues, they
- 41:19Speaker 4: don't matter. What matters is how you make people feel
- 41:24Speaker 4: in the moment, and how your kids need to feel
- 41:26Speaker 4: moving forward in their life and see their parents' relationship.
- 41:31Speaker 4: I think it's just evolution and getting to a place
- 41:35Speaker 4: where you prioritize the things.
- 41:37Speaker 3: That are really important to you.
- 41:39Speaker 4: And for me, peace and kindness are just like at
- 41:44Speaker 4: the forefront of what I want to focus on.
- 41:47Speaker 1: I love that. I feel like I need you to
- 41:49Speaker 1: be in my Life's amazing. Everything that you're saying makes
- 41:52Speaker 1: so much sense to me. I mean in this moment
- 41:55Speaker 1: where I just am all most fifty and just don't
- 41:59Speaker 1: really know where I want my life to go. Do
- 42:02Speaker 1: your daughters want to be actresses? Are the actresses?
- 42:06Speaker 4: No? One of My oldest daughter tried it, dappled in it,
- 42:11Speaker 4: both commercials.
- 42:12Speaker 3: I did a movie with her.
- 42:13Speaker 4: I think that the level of rejection was hard for
- 42:18Speaker 4: her and it didn't make her feel good like in
- 42:20Speaker 4: her heart.
- 42:21Speaker 3: So she pivoted.
- 42:23Speaker 4: And my middle daughter is into fashion and she's actually
- 42:27Speaker 4: my creative design director on the brand.
- 42:31Speaker 3: Yeah, we work together every day.
- 42:33Speaker 4: And my youngest daughter, the one that's about to graduate
- 42:37Speaker 4: from high school, she is interested in psychology and she
- 42:42Speaker 4: is a huge inspiration. I'm really excited about what's about
- 42:47Speaker 4: to happen for her. She's going to create her own
- 42:48Speaker 4: platform and her own podcast that's going to really reach
- 42:53Speaker 4: young girls who have been in similar situations as she
- 42:57Speaker 4: has and just talk about that struggle and how hard
- 42:59Speaker 4: it is to be a young girl in this day
- 43:01Speaker 4: and age.
- 43:03Speaker 2: I love that. I absolutely love that.
- 43:07Speaker 1: And it's a testament that your daughters want to work
- 43:10Speaker 1: with you, you know, I want to do a film
- 43:13Speaker 1: with you and want to work on you know, on
- 43:14Speaker 1: your fashion label with you.
- 43:16Speaker 2: Oh.
- 43:16Speaker 4: My really best friends. It's weird, we're best friends. I've
- 43:20Speaker 4: always been like, hey, guys, I am codependent.
- 43:23Speaker 3: So deal with it.
- 43:26Speaker 2: And the same yeah, like, welcome to the rest of
- 43:28Speaker 2: your life.
- 43:29Speaker 3: If you're working with it. I'm okay with it.
- 43:31Speaker 4: But I've sort of SOT in this new place of like,
- 43:34Speaker 4: how about we try interdependence where we're you know, again.
- 43:38Speaker 2: We're branding but on our ice.
- 43:40Speaker 3: But we still need and love each other, you know,
- 43:42Speaker 3: and we're all flying with that.
- 43:44Speaker 2: Jenny, tell us about the fashion line, I tell us
- 43:47Speaker 2: exactly what I mean. You know, You've talked a lot
- 43:50Speaker 2: about what the goals, but what is specifically what is
- 43:52Speaker 2: this fashion?
- 43:53Speaker 4: Yes, it's exclusive to TVC first and foremost, so I
- 43:57Speaker 4: have the wonderful design team there that I work with
- 44:00Speaker 4: pretty much on a daily basis, and we are designing.
- 44:04Speaker 4: I would call this ready to wear day like easy
- 44:09Speaker 4: to throw on looks that you can just go about
- 44:12Speaker 4: your business in your day, uh and feel strong and
- 44:15Speaker 4: confident and put together and beautiful and comfortable. I mean
- 44:19Speaker 4: that's the like driving force for me is comfort, and
- 44:24Speaker 4: I'm really pushing towards trying to get more sustainability in there.
- 44:28Speaker 3: It's a challenge, but I'm not afraid of a challenge,
- 44:32Speaker 3: so I'm going to keep pushing that. But I love
- 44:34Speaker 3: our clothes. I wear them every single day.
- 44:37Speaker 2: Like that sweater. I love the sweater you wear sweater.
- 44:40Speaker 3: The shirt and the pants you got.
- 44:41Speaker 1: I know, I love it.
- 44:42Speaker 3: They're all Jenny, They're all by Jenny Garth.
- 44:45Speaker 4: Yeah, because they're I'm like scrunched up in my outfit and.
- 44:49Speaker 3: I feel so comfortable.
- 44:50Speaker 1: So yeah, I have so many plans for tonight. Chop
- 44:52Speaker 1: on QBC, make my vision board. Oh my god, I
- 44:58Speaker 1: want it.
- 44:58Speaker 3: That sounds fun. Can I come hang out?
- 45:00Speaker 1: We'll do it together, please please. My kids are all
- 45:02Speaker 1: going out, so I'll just be driving. So what what
- 45:07Speaker 1: TV projects? Movie projects? Can we look forward to seeing
- 45:09Speaker 1: you in?
- 45:11Speaker 3: Nothing right now? Which I am telling you that, I mean,
- 45:15Speaker 3: I even just you know, I really was specific.
- 45:18Speaker 4: I was.
- 45:19Speaker 3: I just turned down and offer a couple of days ago.
- 45:22Speaker 4: Scary, the very scary, scariest hell second, guessing myself for
- 45:27Speaker 4: days afterwards, thinking oh, should I have done it? The
- 45:32Speaker 4: money would have been great and it's always good to
- 45:34Speaker 4: do another movie like it keeps you going, And I thought, no,
- 45:38Speaker 4: that's not what I want to spend my time waiting
- 45:40Speaker 4: in a trailer for people to tell me that they're ready.
- 45:43Speaker 3: It set for me like, I want to be out there.
- 45:45Speaker 4: I want to be connecting, I want to be creating,
- 45:48Speaker 4: and I want to be inspiring.
- 45:49Speaker 3: You know, So I do you want to spit into
- 45:52Speaker 3: my category.
- 45:53Speaker 2: Right now, that's scary and it's so admirable. That's so cool.
- 45:56Speaker 2: Like you've been saying yes for so long, right and
- 46:00Speaker 2: to really become a grown up and say it's so scary.
- 46:04Speaker 2: But this does not serve me anymore. Yeah, right on
- 46:07Speaker 2: my own. Yeah, not right now, not in this moment.
- 46:11Speaker 2: Good for you.
- 46:13Speaker 1: I really feel like I'm going to take so many
- 46:14Speaker 1: things from this conversation, like it caught me at the
- 46:16Speaker 1: right moment in my life. I loved it and I'm
- 46:20Speaker 1: really excited to have met you. In my head, you
- 46:24Speaker 1: will always be Kelly Taylor, but you're also a really
- 46:28Speaker 1: remarkable woman who's accomplished so much. So so thank you
- 46:32Speaker 1: for joining us today. So nice of you.
- 46:36Speaker 3: All this compliments, Thank you.
- 46:38Speaker 1: No, it's real, sir. It Yeah, So we'll we'll look
- 46:43Speaker 1: forward to checking out your your projects and I'm going
- 46:47Speaker 1: to make a vision board and if any of it
- 46:48Speaker 1: comes comes through, I'm going to DM you and like
- 46:53Speaker 1: you know, change that when it comes through, when it comes,
- 46:56Speaker 1: when it comes through.
- 46:58Speaker 4: Yes, it really matters how we talk to ourselves.
- 47:01Speaker 1: As that's true. What's the name of the sweater?
- 47:04Speaker 2: Just just.
- 47:07Speaker 3: This is if you go to GBC dot com.
- 47:09Speaker 4: You can type in me by Jenny Garth in the
- 47:11Speaker 4: search bar, and it's called the Frankie Turtleneck and it's
- 47:14Speaker 4: got a cute little hen.
- 47:16Speaker 1: It's going to be at the top of GENS vision
- 47:17Speaker 1: board by the Frankie.
- 47:18Speaker 2: I mean, I'm not going to have time to put
- 47:20Speaker 2: it on the board because I'm gonna have to get
- 47:21Speaker 2: off the pod QBC dot com. It just looks, it's
- 47:25Speaker 2: just so, it's pretty uncomfortable looking, and that's exactly how
- 47:29Speaker 2: I like to dress good.
- 47:30Speaker 3: I hope I love it.
- 47:31Speaker 1: Yeah, well, thank you so much for joining us today.
- 47:35Speaker 3: You're so welcome. I loved it.
- 47:37Speaker 2: We appreciate you.
- 47:39Speaker 3: Okay, have a good one.
- 47:41Speaker 1: Bye. She was amazing. I feel like that caught me
- 47:44Speaker 1: right at a moment.
- 47:45Speaker 2: You know, Billie, why what's going on with you?
- 47:48Speaker 1: Just because I'm trying to figure out what else to do.
- 47:49Speaker 1: I mean, the show is on pause right who knows
- 47:51Speaker 1: if it's coming back? And I wake up a lot
- 47:55Speaker 1: and think, well, if it doesn't come back, what am
- 47:58Speaker 1: I going to do when I'm done waiting?
- 48:00Speaker 3: You know?
- 48:01Speaker 1: And like, what am I gonna do?
- 48:03Speaker 2: Even even though you were writing a second book, we
- 48:04Speaker 2: have not even discussed it.
- 48:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it just it just started. Yeah started.
- 48:10Speaker 2: It wasn't news to me. How exciting is that?
- 48:12Speaker 1: No, I haven't. I don't really, I haven't really spoken
- 48:14Speaker 1: about it yet because it's so so brand new. But yeah,
- 48:19Speaker 1: it's really exciting. But also, like you get that imposter
- 48:22Speaker 1: syndrome where you're like, can I do this? You know
- 48:26Speaker 1: it's not it's not memoir, it's it's a novel. So
- 48:30Speaker 1: it's almost like it's so new for me, and like
- 48:32Speaker 1: I have all these ideas and it's really fun, but
- 48:34Speaker 1: then I get these moments where I'm like, there's so
- 48:36Speaker 1: much better novelists out there, and then like I read
- 48:39Speaker 1: I read stuff about like I'm deep diving on White
- 48:41Speaker 1: lotus right now. So I was reading like the New
- 48:43Speaker 1: York Times magazine did this thing, I'm Parker Posy and
- 48:45Speaker 1: they were talking about like Mike White and his head
- 48:48Speaker 1: and like what all these relationships mean. And I was like, God,
- 48:51Speaker 1: like my characters aren't that in depth yet, you know,
- 48:54Speaker 1: maybe I should stop. And then I'm like, no, like
- 48:56Speaker 1: we don't all have to be Mike White, Like it
- 48:57Speaker 1: doesn't have to be like an Emmy winning thing. Right
- 49:00Speaker 1: at the beginning, right.
- 49:01Speaker 2: Like we should do if we should do an episode
- 49:03Speaker 2: just on this, because I find that so many things
- 49:06Speaker 2: in my life I've given up on because I thought
- 49:09Speaker 2: it's not going to be as good as it's not
- 49:13Speaker 2: going to be as big, as it's not going to
- 49:15Speaker 2: be enough. And like ideas that I had. I had
- 49:17Speaker 2: this one idea going back years and years of doing
- 49:21Speaker 2: a clothing line called Monday Mornings, and I wanted it
- 49:25Speaker 2: be spelled m O U r n I ngs. It
- 49:27Speaker 2: was kind of kitchy because like on Mondays, you're kind
- 49:30Speaker 2: of in mourning about all the self destructive shit you
- 49:32Speaker 2: did to yourself over the weekend, right, And I was
- 49:35Speaker 2: going to have it be you see it a lot
- 49:37Speaker 2: now like jeans slash sweatpants, right, I feel like sweatpants,
- 49:40Speaker 2: but their genes. I wanted to do something where like
- 49:43Speaker 2: the size was instead of saying size six, it would
- 49:46Speaker 2: say usually a six or or a six during the week,
- 49:51Speaker 2: and then make the clothes that were just easy to
- 49:53Speaker 2: slip into and comfortable and made you not feel so restricted. Anyway,
- 50:00Speaker 2: I had this idea, and imposter syndrome got the best
- 50:04Speaker 2: of me, and it just never got even off the
- 50:07Speaker 2: ground because somebody else was going to have it, or
- 50:09Speaker 2: somebody else is going to do it, or somebody was
- 50:10Speaker 2: better at it, somebody else's hard.
- 50:12Speaker 1: Follow through is hard. It also it takes a lot
- 50:14Speaker 1: of work. I am somebody who loves immediate gratification, and
- 50:18Speaker 1: the fact that writing a book takes so long is
- 50:20Speaker 1: something that also turns me off. But it's a lot
- 50:24Speaker 1: of fun. It's definitely off the ground, but it is
- 50:27Speaker 1: still new. So once it's once i'm sure of it,
- 50:30Speaker 1: I'll talk more about it. But in the meantime, i'm
- 50:33Speaker 1: just My point is that, like, it's really easy to
- 50:36Speaker 1: get stuck in this I don't know what I want thing,
- 50:38Speaker 1: But I think that vision board idea is very appealing
- 50:41Speaker 1: because then you can visualize what you want, right, you
- 50:44Speaker 1: can spell it out.
- 50:45Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure, seems more manageable, maybe when you look
- 50:48Speaker 2: at it in like little pieces, right Yeah.
- 50:51Speaker 1: Yeah, But I also need to remind myself of the
- 50:53Speaker 1: part where part of what I should want for my
- 50:57Speaker 1: life is peace and to filled my life with loving relationships,
- 51:02Speaker 1: true friendships, you know, So I have to work that in.
- 51:06Speaker 1: It's not all about like what's going to make me
- 51:09Speaker 1: money and give me visibility and stuff.
- 51:11Speaker 2: Like that.
- 51:12Speaker 1: So I also have a hard time, you know, remembering
- 51:16Speaker 1: my priorities. What my priority is.
- 51:18Speaker 2: Very honest, and I can definitely relate to that. That's
- 51:21Speaker 2: like work on that a lot in therapy, like without
- 51:24Speaker 2: any of the hoopla or like whatever comes along with
- 51:29Speaker 2: this little tiny bit of game. And I've been again,
- 51:33Speaker 2: you've been doing this way longer than I haven't a
- 51:34Speaker 2: way bigger capacity. But like all of that is really
- 51:37Speaker 2: not what matters is knowing that I'm enough, Like just
- 51:42Speaker 2: as Jenny was saying, it sounds cheesy, but like I'm
- 51:45Speaker 2: good without any of that, without any of the extra, right,
- 51:49Speaker 2: Like I'm enough, I'm special enough. We all are getting
- 51:53Speaker 2: kind of crunchy now, but I mean, I know.
- 51:55Speaker 1: It's true, And working on myself the past few years,
- 51:59Speaker 1: I've definitely I'm definitely getting much closer to that place
- 52:02Speaker 1: where I know, no matter what my job title is
- 52:05Speaker 1: or what I accomplish work wise, I am enough and
- 52:09Speaker 1: I'm loved and you know all that gooey stuff. But
- 52:14Speaker 1: you know, it's it's hard to job job wise. If
- 52:17Speaker 1: you're a worker, it's it's hard. Anyway, I loved this
- 52:23Speaker 1: and I loved her, and I'm definitely going to put
- 52:27Speaker 1: in play some of the things she suggested. She really
- 52:29Speaker 1: is an inspiring.
- 52:30Speaker 2: Woman, Yes she is. By the way, does age she's
- 52:35Speaker 2: dis gorgeous?
- 52:35Speaker 1: No, I know she's beautiful too. Wow. All right, this
- 52:39Speaker 1: was really fun and h and until next time, guys,
- 52:44Speaker 1: we hope you love this episode. Give us five stars
- 52:46Speaker 1: and we will see you next time.
- 52:49Speaker 2: Thanks you guys.
