- 0:22SPEAKER_00: In the faith community, there's a lot of talk about the concept of calling.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: Most Christian leaders have experienced some type of calling toward their work.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: They see it as a spiritual invitation from God, sort of a continuation of the great tradition of biblical leaders like Moses, David, and Paul who experienced a supernatural calling.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Most writers feel this way about their work too.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: In fact, you probably feel some type of nudge or pull toward your creative work.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Regardless of whether you believe this comes from God or from some other place, the important thing is that you obey this calling and don't try to run from it.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Whenever you run from your calling, you're unhappy.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: I think we've all felt that way at times.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: When we do the work to fulfill our calling, we feel satisfied and we have a deep sense of joy and we also serve other people well with our gifts.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: When we run away from those things, we feel unhappy, we feel unfulfilled, we feel like a piece of a puzzle that just isn't fitting quite right into this life.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: One thing to remember about our calling, though, is that it's never finished.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: It's an ongoing pilgrimage that lasts your whole life.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Jeff Goyne said, your calling is not a destination.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: It's a journey that doesn't end until you die.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: I love those words.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: And the truth is that none of us ever arrives, quote unquote, as a writer in the sense that we've learned all that we can or that we somehow have completed our mission.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: The mission, which is your calling, it never ends.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: It's not about how many books you write or how many other accomplishments that you have.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: It's about living as a writer and embracing the creative life.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: And when we do that, then we can truly fulfill our potential.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Then we can write those books and achieve those goals and we can do all the things that are important to us.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: But before we do that, we have to step into what we have been called to do.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: And that's always a journey worth taking.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Here's today's question.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: How do you feel about the truth that you've been called and that you will never be finished and that you will never, quote unquote, arrive?
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: And are you committed to staying in a growth mode so that you can accomplish what you've been called in this life to do as a creative and as a writer?
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Just something to think about.
