Vox Liturgica: The Propers of the Day according to the Roman Missal before 1955. The Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, July 2 in the year of our Lord, 2026.
• 0:18
A note from Dom Gaspar Lefebvre. The angel Gabriel had announced to Mary that God would soon give a son to Elizabeth. The virgin at once betook herself to Hebron where her cousin resided.

That is the mystery of the visitation which is solemnized on the day following the octave of the nativity of Saint John the Baptist. On this day, as in the season of Advent, the church recalls together the memories of the precursor and of Jesus and Mary. For we then remarked that the Friday and the winter ember week recalled to us the same mystery of the visitation. This feast was instituted for the whole world in 1389 by Urban the sixth in order to obtain the end of the great Western schism. It was later on raised to the right of double of the second class by Pius the ninth.
• 1:24
For on this feast was completed at Rome in 1849, the victory of the church over the revolution. Mary visits Elizabeth and Jesus visits and sanctifies John. Wherefore, Saint John leaps with joy and Elizabeth filled by him with the Holy Ghost exclaims, blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. The virgin mother of God who bears and gives birth to him who bears and produces all things then pronounces a sublime canticle, the Magnificat. In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost.
• 2:17
Amen. The introit. Hail, holy parent, that didst bring forth the king who ruleth heaven and earth forever and ever. My heart hath uttered a good word. I speak my works to the king.
• 2:39
Glory be to the father and to the son and to the holy ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. Hail holy parent, that did spring forth the king who ruleth heaven and earth forever and ever. The Collect. Let us pray.
• 3:08
Bestow upon thy servants, we beseech thee, the gift of thy heavenly grace, that as the childbearing of the blessed Virgin was the beginning of our salvation. So the solemn feast of her visitation may bring us an increase of peace through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the canticle of canticles. See where he comes, how he speeds over the mountains, how he spurns the hills.
• 3:59
Gazelle nor Fawn was ever so fleet of foot as my heart's love. And now he is standing on the other side of this very wall. Now he is looking in through each window in turn, peering through the lattices. I can hear my true love calling to me. Rise up.
• 4:24
Rise up quickly, dear heart. So gentle, so beautiful. Rise up and come with me. Winter is over now. The rain has passed by.
• 4:37
At home, the flowers have begun to blossom. Pruning time has come. We can hear the turtledove cooing already there at home. There is green fruit on the fig trees. The vines and flower are all fragrance.
• 4:57
Rouse thee and come, so beautiful, so well beloved, still hiding thyself as a dove in the clefts of the rock, in the hollow places of the wall. Show me but thy face. Let me but hear thy voice. That voice, sweet as thy face is fair. The gradual.
• 5:29
Blessed and venerable art thou, O Virgin Mary, who without loss of purity, were found to be the mother of our savior. Virgin mother of God, he whom the whole world cannot hold enclosed himself in thy womb and became man. Alleluia. Alleluia. Happy art thou sacred Virgin Mary and of all praise most worthy.
• 6:01
For out of thee hath risen the son of justice, Christ our God. Alleluia. A continuation of the holy gospel according to Luke. At that time, Mary rose up and went with all haste to a town of Judah in the hill country where Zachary dwelt. And there entering in, she gave Elizabeth greeting.
• 6:31
No sooner had Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting than the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth herself was filled with the Holy Ghost so that she cried out with a loud voice, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. How have I deserved to be thus visited by the mother of my Lord? Why, as soon as ever the voice of thy greeting sounded in my ears, the child in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed art thou for thy believing.
• 7:10
The message that was brought to thee from the Lord shall have fulfillment. And Mary said, my soul magnifies the Lord. My spirit has found joy in God who is my savior. The offertory. Blessed art thou, Virgin Mary, who did spare the creator of the world.
• 7:38
Thou gave us birth to him who made thee, yet remainest ever virgin. The secret, may the incarnation of thine only begotten son, o Lord, come to help us. He whose birth from a maiden did not spoil, but sealed her virginity. May he, on this festival of her visitation, cleanse us from sin, and make our offering pleasing in thy sight. Jesus Christ, thy son, our Lord, who with thee liveth and reigneth in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages.
• 8:26
Amen. The Preface of the Blessed Mother. It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto you, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God. And that we should praise and bless and proclaim thee in the visitation of blessed Mary ever virgin, who also conceived thine only begotten son by the overshadowing of the holy ghost and the glory of her virginity still abiding gave forth to the world the everlasting light, Jesus Christ, our Lord, through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, and the powers stand in awe. The heavens and the heavenly hosts together with the blessed Seraphim in triumphant chorus unite to celebrate it.
• 9:28
Together with them, we entreat thee that thou mayest bid our voices also to be admitted while we say with humble praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts. The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
• 9:57
Hosanna in the highest. The communion. Blessed is the womb of the Virgin Mary, which bore the son of the eternal father. The post communion. Let us pray.
• 10:20
We have received, oh, Lord, the sacraments offered on this yearly feast. Grant we beseech thee that they may bestow on us remedies both for this present life and for life eternal. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost.
• 10:58
Amen. The Magnificat. My soul doth magnify the lord and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my savior, because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid. For behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed, because he that is mighty hath done great things to me, and holy is his name. And his mercy is from generation unto generations to them that fear him.
• 11:33
He hath showed the might in his arm. He hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart. He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble. He hath filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he hath sent empty away. He has received Israel, his servant, being mindful of his mercy as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and his seed forever.
• 12:03
Glory be to the father and to the son and to the holy ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen.
