- 0:00And it smells just like a 16 year old boy, like.
- 0:04I don't want to know how you know this.
- 0:06Like this week on that car show, we are back with a cruise show.
- 0:10We did have structure, I promise, but it didn't
- 0:12necessarily show that we had structure.
- 0:15We talked about driving seasons coming to an end in Washington
- 0:18and Colorado. Obviously it's one big season in
- 0:21LA, so I'm still driving with the top down.
- 0:24We talked a little bit about closing out car shows, including
- 0:27Redmond town centre. Dr. Habibi said hello to
- 0:31Lincoln, not to Lincoln to Ryan Habib.
- 0:35Dr. Habib said hello to Ryan, I think.
- 0:37Habibi is the phrase. Habib is the man.
- 0:40There we go, a legend. He was the customer services
- 0:43gentleman who served Ryan with some optics a few about six
- 0:48months ago. We have an ex.
- 0:51We also talked about watches for weddings, whether it's just a
- 0:55British tradition or something that carries on further.
- 0:58We may have mentioned some famous people getting married as
- 1:01part of that as well. We introduced the new
- 1:03competition on how you could win a Sheffield watch and it's
- 1:07pretty easy. Once again, we talked about
- 1:09which cars touch your soul. So these are the cars that
- 1:12actually make you want to go and investigate.
- 1:14You know where I can find them online and how much do they
- 1:17cost? I think Ryan got a little bit
- 1:19too intimate with a local police, but we'll leave that
- 1:22there. Then we talked about what
- 1:25Porsche is up to. Not only are they going back on
- 1:29commitments of stopping doing ICE engines, but they're also
- 1:34working with Audi on electric cars.
- 1:37And then finally we talked about what it's like to be a man
- 1:41inside a kids car, whether that was getting erected in Canada or
- 1:47deliveries in in LA. All that and a whole lot more.
- 1:52It was a fun episode. The 1st 20 minutes were only
- 1:56audio, but then we thought we would save you and come back
- 1:59with video. But all that and a whole lot
- 2:01more on that car show. That car show is brought to you
- 2:04by Sheffield Watches. The Sheffield Watch brand has a
- 2:08long and storied history, but it was revived a couple years back
- 2:11by our good friend and TrueCar guy Jay Turkpis.
- 2:14Jay was gifted a Sheffield watch by his parents when he was a kid
- 2:17and he still has it to this day. Jay wanted to make the same
- 2:21experience available to all of us, a reasonably priced, high
- 2:24quality watch that endures and that we enjoy sharing with our
- 2:27fellow watch enthusiasts and car people.
- 2:30From divers watches to watches designed for travel to
- 2:34collaboration with automotive pals like Spike Ferriston and
- 2:37Jay Leno, Sheffield has a watch for you.
- 2:40Find your own Sheffield watch at sheffieldwatches.com and at
- 2:44Sheffield under score Allsport under score watches on Instagram
- 2:49and let Jay know you heard about Sheffield watches from That car
- 2:52show. Hey and welcome to this week's
- 2:55That Car Show. It is another cruise show after
- 2:58a few successful weeks of me being replaced by some fantastic
- 3:02guests. So I saw the episodes but what
- 3:04were the highlights guys? I mean, how do you even choose,
- 3:08right? I mean, one of them's Lindsay's
- 3:10fiance, so she probably has to be careful, but they were all
- 3:13great, right? I will not be choosing.
- 3:16I know my answer. But think about it, I think,
- 3:19well, three shows, but four very different guests, right?
- 3:22Sasha Slepenov from Nilu Car Designer, our friends Derek Tam,
- 3:28Scott and Tatsio Otis, and then our very own fiance Tori Alonso.
- 3:34He's the VW. Now is he?
- 3:36Yes, He's our collective. Collection Royal we Little did
- 3:40he know, when he asked for my hand, he was.
- 3:42Going to wait till he meets my parents, yeah?
- 3:44He came with his own car show love.
- 3:48It the whole VW mafia came up for that one.
- 3:50That was a surprisingly well performing show, so thank you
- 3:53all. Thanks to all our VW fans out
- 3:55there. I think before we go into a deep
- 3:58dive on this show, let's just take a moment and say that we're
- 4:01going to honour an individual with this show, which is Tom
- 4:05Matano. And Tom was the father of the
- 4:09MX5, the Miata, as you guys would know it, and he passed
- 4:13away this week. So I think we'll take a moment,
- 4:15we'll raise a glass and say, hey, this show's for you, Tom.
- 4:18That's. Right.
- 4:20Thank you for all your contributions.
- 4:22Did you guys spend much time behind the wheels of Miatas?
- 4:270 actually for me, which is very strict.
- 4:30Homework. Lindsay, we need to keep this
- 4:32homework. Yeah.
- 4:32Yeah, so who has a Miata that they won't let me pile it around
- 4:35They're. One of the great cars they
- 4:37really are there's nothing like a Miata, right?
- 4:39And it's a car that's really I think stuck to, you know, it's
- 4:42it's what makes it special, right, Even all these years
- 4:45later. But we had a couple growing up
- 4:47we had two growing up. I mean, my teens and 20s, a
- 4:50couple Nas, yeah, that's. They're still formative years.
- 4:53Long time ago and they were great cars.
- 4:57You know, I fit OK, you know, I wasn't that much smaller back
- 5:00then. We had a A92 limited edition
- 5:03with like the BBS and the the Nardi shifter and all that and
- 5:07then we had AI think it was a 96 M edition, which was kind of the
- 5:10equivalent, which was a midnight blue and they were fantastic
- 5:12cars. In fact, my dad had the that the
- 5:14the blue one until a few years ago until he traded it in on a
- 5:18on the Cayman that he's got or effectively traded it in so
- 5:21wonderful cars. I mean, they're, you know,
- 5:23there's just nothing like a Miata, a good Miata, you know,
- 5:26they're the, the fact that those were brought back, you know, I
- 5:30mean, really was, was something special.
- 5:32And there's a lot of effort that went into to that, I think.
- 5:34And, and he was the man. He's one of those guys like one
- 5:37of the bands you say, oh, I'll see him eventually.
- 5:38He's not that old, right, Right. You know, you know, yeah, run
- 5:41into an event or something. I think that's what was so
- 5:44strange is like for this day and age.
- 5:46He was very young. And you know, I, I haven't
- 5:49driven A Miata, but I remember seeing them like growing up, you
- 5:52know, at the track and at car events especially.
- 5:54You know, a lot of the events I attended were like Ford focused,
- 5:58as we all know. And there were plenty of Miatas
- 6:01there because people would put a Ford engine in because they were
- 6:03so great at the track. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:05I I cannot believe you've never driven A Miata.
- 6:07Lindsay, to Dan's point, yeah, I think you need to.
- 6:10I know that's, well, that's what I love about the car like world
- 6:13and the car hobby is that as much as you do know and like as
- 6:16much as we've all gotten to experience, there's still so
- 6:19much that we haven't done, which means, you know, we have a lot
- 6:23of homework. I also wanted to give a shout
- 6:27out because at the end of this month is The Gentleman's Drive.
- 6:32So this is a charity that focuses on men's health.
- 6:37Both men's mental health as well as physical health.
- 6:42And it is a worldwide movement in 64 countries where there is
- 6:46an organized drive that raises money for charity.
- 6:50If you want to find out more about it, go to
- 6:52www.gentlemansdrive.com and we'll put it in the show notes.
- 6:58But we have some friends, don't we, that are actively
- 7:00participating, leading rallies. Shut up, Matt.
- 7:04Yeah, and our friend Babes in Classics, Ariel Zadok in LA,
- 7:10friends of Late Night Playset will know her as the purple
- 7:13headed producer, as Jay has been calling her lately.
- 7:16But she's been producing the event in LA for the last, I
- 7:20think, four years. And it's always fun to see the
- 7:23pictures afterwards because people dress up the whole, the
- 7:26gentleman part of it is everyone dresses up.
- 7:28And so they all look very dapper to do the drive.
- 7:32So it's fun, you know? And they're raising money for a
- 7:35good cause. Yeah.
- 7:36Yeah, we like it. So the question for the folks
- 7:40that are either in Colorado or Washington State, are you guys
- 7:44making the most of the change in season because things are about
- 7:48to change in both states? That's right.
- 7:50I'm lucky in LA because I think the season continues on.
- 7:53But how are you guys? Journal Summer Things.
- 7:56Yeah, yeah. Yeah, you made you made the
- 7:59right move, Dan. This season is year round.
- 8:02That's where you are. Yeah.
- 8:05Yeah, we can definitely tell in Seattle the sun has shifted all
- 8:09of a sudden. It is like clockwork, just like
- 8:12it's fall. You can see where the sun is,
- 8:13the lights different. So I actually took the GT4 out
- 8:18today because it was sunny and you got to take advantage.
- 8:21Right. And it was delightful.
- 8:25Every time I get back in that car, you know, you get get out
- 8:28on the road, like have the chance to accelerate even the
- 8:30tiniest bit. And it's like a giant exhale.
- 8:33Just yeah. Man, I love that car.
- 8:36Are the car shows in still in Seattle still taking place or
- 8:38have they finished now? So they had the last theme day
- 8:42of exotics at Redmond Town Center, which has grown into,
- 8:46you know, such a massive event. That was this past Saturday
- 8:49morning. And I think they, that's how
- 8:52they sort of hedge the seasons because they'll, they end the
- 8:57sort of official days and then weather permitting, they'll keep
- 9:01doing it for a little bit. But so this weekend was British
- 9:03for this past weekend was British day, which was pretty
- 9:06fun because on the drive there we actually saw a few of the
- 9:09examples. We were like towards the later
- 9:11end of the event. And so some people had already
- 9:13left, but so we got a little bit of like British day on the move
- 9:16on the way there. Very good, like a moving car
- 9:18show whether any Jaguars there? Yes, there were, there was 1
- 9:23XKSS replica, but it was very well done and like very fun to
- 9:30see. And then there was a, it's a, an
- 9:34XK140, which I have a friend in Orange County that actually has
- 9:38a red one, but there was a black one there and it was absolutely
- 9:41stunning. Really fun to see that in person
- 9:44up close. And then there were some like
- 9:4760s Jags. Sorry, Jaguar.
- 9:51And yeah. And there were two very cute
- 9:55little Nash Metropolitans right next to each other, which, yeah.
- 9:58So it was a fun, like even getting there a little bit
- 10:01later, it was still a fun day and it was beautiful.
- 10:04I'm glad to hear you're making the most of the the last few
- 10:07days of Summer and Ryan. I gotta give a quick shout out
- 10:10to well, I got it first, like you mentioned, the Redmond Town
- 10:13Center and the last time and the only time I've been at Redmond
- 10:15Town Center is when I was moving, helping you move from
- 10:17Seattle to LA, Dan and I forgot my contacts.
- 10:20So shout out to Doctor Habib and the the crew at Optics OPTIX
- 10:26Eyewear at Redmond Town Center. They were.
- 10:29They were an. Official sponsor of that car.
- 10:31So that's was 1500 on the. Gentleman's drive, couldn't
- 10:35they? They were true generous.
- 10:37Yeah, I think we save. Save my my bacon.
- 10:40Yeah, about 5 different opticians and like they were,
- 10:44no, they weren't willing to give any samples.
- 10:46They were. Yeah, I know you needed were
- 10:48just enough to get you through the week, right?
- 10:50That's all I needed. And Doctor Habib said liability
- 10:53out the window. I like this guy.
- 10:54We'll hook him up with some contacts and I like them.
- 10:57So thank you. Thank you very much.
- 10:58Like your smile? Come on in.
- 11:00I would have rubbed in my eyes all week, Dan.
- 11:03More important, you don't even have it anymore.
- 11:08Who cares, you know? Yes.
- 11:11But to answer your question, yeah, it's it's the seasons are
- 11:14changing here as well. We got a little snow in the
- 11:17mountains for the first time recently and oh boy, yeah, it's,
- 11:20you know, the writing's on the wall.
- 11:21So I've been trying to get out as much as I could.
- 11:23Went out with some friends like 6 perfectly matched cars, right
- 11:29different versions. There was a 992.2 T.
- 11:32There was a 991.2 GT 3RS. There was a Cayman 4.0 GTS.
- 11:38There's my car a couple of the course anyways, just it was just
- 11:41a when you ever get in a group and everyone's just kind of kind
- 11:43of gels the cars, the driving and all that.
- 11:45And it was it was grand. And then I got out by myself
- 11:48once as well, which hasn't happened in a long time.
- 11:50And you forget is wonderful. It is driving with friends,
- 11:53right, right. It's also pretty great to just
- 11:55go out and drive to. Just go.
- 11:57Get in the zone, right? Get in the zone.
- 11:59And there's not a better driving season than the fall, right?
- 12:02At least here in Colorado, the leaves are changing.
- 12:05And, you know, there's that you're, you know, you've got to
- 12:07get it in, you know, that this this driving really counts,
- 12:09right? Yeah.
- 12:10And so. Yeah.
- 12:10It makes it that much sweeter because, like you said, you can
- 12:13see the evidence that the season is coming to a close for.
- 12:16This year, Exactly, exactly. There is nothing quite like
- 12:20being, yeah, being on your own in a car that you love on a fun
- 12:22road. And just like, again, it's just,
- 12:25it's so restorative. And, you know, I think we summed
- 12:29it up right. There's so much Zen and drives
- 12:31like that. Yeah.
- 12:33Do you guys listen to music when you're driving on your own or is
- 12:37it the engine and the. It depends.
- 12:40For me, it depends on like how restorative I need the drive to
- 12:44be. And if it's, I think a lot of
- 12:49times it's just the engine noise, especially if it's in a
- 12:52car that I really enjoy the note.
- 12:54Like, yeah, I had a GT350R Mustang, and that was, you know,
- 12:58that exhaust is sort of in a class of its own.
- 13:00It's so intoxicating. So when I drove that car, no
- 13:03music. Well, let me just mention that
- 13:06Lindsays GT4 straight pipe. So I don't know that you be able
- 13:09to hear the music anyway. I don't listen.
- 13:15I don't listen to music ever unless I'm stuck in traffic or
- 13:17something. Not in not in the Porsche
- 13:19because I don't know. I like to be fully tuned in.
- 13:21In fact, I, I, I struggle even with wearing sunglasses right.
- 13:24I like to be fully aware, fully dialed in and plus I have the
- 13:28bass stereo so it's not that good anyway.
- 13:31More enjoyment in the sound of the car.
- 13:33So funny. Yeah.
- 13:34Yeah, the engineers at Porsche will really appreciate those
- 13:37comments. Yeah, windows down so I can hear
- 13:39it all. You know for sure how to do
- 13:41that. Yeah, get a little sand in the
- 13:42teeth, you know. It helps with your awareness
- 13:44too, like when I. First learned to.
- 13:45Drive again. I was in Southern California, so
- 13:48the weather was nice and it was the summer.
- 13:50But I remember after a week realizing like, I think it
- 13:54something happened and I had to put a window up.
- 13:55And I remember going like, well, how am I supposed to know what's
- 13:57going on if the window's up? Yeah, yeah.
- 13:59Come on. Yeah.
- 14:01I don't know where to shift you. Know I've done a few drives so I
- 14:06wanted to get 1000 miles on the car.
- 14:08Right. Yes, A.
- 14:09Few weeks ago I went down to Malibu and there is a market I
- 14:14can't think of. The name of the market is a Is
- 14:17it pizza market? Oh, Scott's Scott's Malibu
- 14:20Kitchen, I think. So that's a nice drive, although
- 14:24obviously that area was affected by the fires at the beginning of
- 14:27the year. So when you head down there,
- 14:30there are very strict speed limits and there are also police
- 14:34bikes with radar guns at various junctions.
- 14:37So you definitely have to take that seriously.
- 14:40Yeah, but super saddening. And I've heard good news, but
- 14:43super saddening as you go down that road.
- 14:45On the left hand side is the coast and on the right hand side
- 14:47is the canyons. There was a burnt out 9/11 which
- 14:52was as a result of the fires became iconic.
- 14:55Yeah, but I've heard it's been towed away to be restored.
- 15:00So I hope that myth is true and that is the case.
- 15:04Yeah. But I also went to Helms Bakery
- 15:07last Sunday for the Johnny Lieberman friend of the show.
- 15:12Yeah. I needed Lindsay with me.
- 15:16There's all these people I know by face but I don't like to talk
- 15:19to. So I got there, pulled in, and I
- 15:22went for my coffee, and they do a coffee outside.
- 15:24Step behind me. Was is it universe, Jeff?
- 15:27Yeah. Jeff.
- 15:28Booker. Yeah, we met him at.
- 15:31The LA Auto Show last night. Briefly, I wrote a show.
- 15:34Behind him was Lynn Woodward. Behind her her was Matt Farah.
- 15:41And I was like, I'm introverted at the best of time, so I'm
- 15:44like, I'm not going to turn around and say hello to the
- 15:46who's who of LA. Oh, you're right there with him,
- 15:48Dan, Come on. Yeah, that's.
- 15:50Amazing. Yeah.
- 15:51And I think was Hannah, Matt's wife.
- 15:53She was with him too. I think that.
- 15:55Was. Well, yeah, And they collected
- 15:57bunch of cars. Like, I am dumb.
- 16:00I'm really dumb. So I got there and I walked
- 16:02through and Matt had his Myers Manx, Yeah.
- 16:07And he was the only guy who'd parked nose in.
- 16:11So initially I'm like, why? Why bother?
- 16:13Like, are you just lazy? But the reality is that the
- 16:17business end of that car is in the back, right?
- 16:19It's got the. Radial engine, Yeah, that's why
- 16:22he did it. But I needed more coffee because
- 16:24I hadn't been turned it together.
- 16:27Well, the next time you go, Dan, you roll up in that brand new
- 16:30red Porsche of yours and, and and you say, do you know who I
- 16:33am? And I bet they do.
- 16:36But nice people all in. Because the car didn't make the
- 16:39list. So as I'm pulling, oh, someone I
- 16:42know very well was on the gate, and when you go to the gate,
- 16:45it's a left turn to go in and exhibit your car.
- 16:48Yeah, just straight on to go park in the car park.
- 16:51And a good friend of the show, Sean, just sent me straight
- 16:54along. And I'm like oh and.
- 16:56He's moving, yeah. Next time, Sean, I'm looking for
- 16:59a left turn right. Yeah.
- 17:01Well, that's why that thing's got a radio in it.
- 17:04Because I got to Lynn and I were the parking wardens for the
- 17:07inaugural event. And so you didn't.
- 17:10Send me left. You would have definitely sent
- 17:12me left. I would have moved all those
- 17:14cones and brought it right in. What?
- 17:16Does it take? Well, it was.
- 17:18It's, I think what makes it so unique and is one of the cool
- 17:22things about that event is that there's the front parking lot
- 17:25and then when you go behind, there's more parking along the
- 17:27building, but then there's also the parking garage.
- 17:30So it's sort of like a choose your own adventure.
- 17:32And they were sort of like sorting.
- 17:35You know, some of the priority spots were behind the building
- 17:37the first time, and then they had the front lot.
- 17:40But it was also a learning experience because the front lot
- 17:42filled up even as, you know, it was being curated, filled up.
- 17:46And then there were more behind. And then.
- 17:48But even the parking garage was a car show in itself.
- 17:50Yeah. Yeah.
- 17:51Well. Yeah, having also been in this
- 17:53position. Garage.
- 17:55Sorry, Ron, you go on. No, having also been in this
- 17:57position, that is a tough position to be in because it's
- 17:59not like you're getting paid to do this.
- 18:01Where do you draw the line? And I think it's kind of a
- 18:03sliding scale as the show goes on, right?
- 18:06Maybe a little tougher as the show goes on.
- 18:09It was that early, Ryan. Yeah, I I mean, I would have let
- 18:12you in no problem. Not only the car, but it's it's
- 18:14come on. It is it is it is the Dan
- 18:16Pilling, right? Danny P, come on front and
- 18:20center, everyone. You know, if you don't know, you
- 18:22know. Now how is that car, by the way?
- 18:25You've got 1000 miles on it. So if you don't know, it's this
- 18:27beautiful Guards red. Sorry, Boxster GTS 40.
- 18:31Yeah, again, quickly to 1000 miles.
- 18:33I've had it. Yeah, I've had it first of
- 18:35August, I think I got it 2nd of August.
- 18:36So anyway, I went out to the Joshua Tree with it.
- 18:41It was 109°, not not mph, but the drive home was magical.
- 18:50So I had to get back to LA quite early on the Sunday.
- 18:53So it was literally up at 6:30 and on the road and there was no
- 18:57one else around. The sun was coming up.
- 18:59I was driving through mountains. So I got to give it some beans
- 19:03in the end. That's amazing.
- 19:06How many beans did you give it, Dan?
- 19:07Yeah, let's, yeah, let's not incriminate myself now that I
- 19:11right. You got that 1199 license plate
- 19:15I have? I'll talk.
- 19:16About that on this show, the chairman of that organization
- 19:21on. Absolutely right.
- 19:22You can use. Your imagination.
- 19:23Had you been to Joshua Tree before, Dan?
- 19:25Not for a long time. Not for a long time.
- 19:29There's a really good music venue, not necessarily the music
- 19:31I saw there, but called Pappy and Harriet's and and it's a
- 19:36really good music venue. It's just outside Joshua Tree,
- 19:39in the middle of nowhere. Yeah, no, but I've heard about
- 19:43it because it's this like totally out of the way.
- 19:45Like you have to know, you know that it's there and but they get
- 19:49some really big names. Yeah, about 3 or 4 years ago,
- 19:52Paul McCartney played a secret concert there.
- 19:55Oh really? Yeah, it's that sort of crazy.
- 19:58Have a look at the website because they have.
- 20:00I don't know how they do it because it is literally the
- 20:02middle of nowhere. Yeah, but they have like famous
- 20:05acts all the time. It's wild.
- 20:07I I had never heard of it until like a year ago because I have,
- 20:11I know people that live in that area and that's how they had
- 20:13learned about it. But yeah, yeah.
- 20:15It's like you would never expect.
- 20:17I mean, Paul McCartney there is the last thing you would expect.
- 20:21Right. Right.
- 20:22I know. Yeah.
- 20:23So. So, Dan, I just want to go back
- 20:26to your Malibu Dr. Like what was it like being in the area?
- 20:31You know, you'd been there before the fires?
- 20:33Obviously. Yeah.
- 20:34What is it like to be there and experience it like post fire?
- 20:39I haven't been there since. I I think it's just humbling
- 20:42because you you drive along and you realize what people have
- 20:45lost. And you know, it's still,
- 20:49there's still people, even though it might be a beachfront
- 20:51property in Malibu, you know, it's still people and they've
- 20:54lost their houses and. Right.
- 20:56Yeah. So just very humbling.
- 20:58Yeah. I saw.
- 21:00I saw a post today from a gal who has done a fair amount of
- 21:04reporting on Malibu just sort of lifestyle or, you know, store
- 21:08kind of day in the life stories. And she actually ended up losing
- 21:12her house too in the Palisades. And what struck me was she said
- 21:16when she did go back to the neighborhood after the fire, she
- 21:19ended up passing her own house at first without realizing it
- 21:22because there were no landmarks anymore.
- 21:24And I. Thought.
- 21:25You know, we're going to start hearing like more of those
- 21:28stories, but it's always interesting to hear what it's
- 21:31actually like to see it. Yeah, but no, it's it's good
- 21:36news is that obviously people are starting to rebuild now and
- 21:39all that sort of good stuff. So yeah, shall we give a watch
- 21:44away? What do you think?
- 21:45We should. Before we do that, I've just
- 21:47been informed that we are recording an audio only so much.
- 21:49Like when Wizard of Oz goes from black and white to color, we are
- 21:54now going to go to video. Nothing.
- 21:59Here we are, because I know you are missing our beautiful mugs.
- 22:02Here we are, right? Sorry, Dan, We're going to give
- 22:05away some watches. Part 2 in full visual definition
- 22:11If you've missed the OR if you listen to the first part, it was
- 22:13audio only and it's our apologies.
- 22:15So let's get on with giving something away to buy back our
- 22:19audience, shall we? We're here now, Yeah, we're here
- 22:21now, and we've got a watch to give away.
- 22:24So we are obviously working with the great folks at Sheffield
- 22:26Watches and I thought, you know, how do we do some sort of
- 22:29competition that helps someone win a watch?
- 22:32And Congrats again to our friend Dave who won the 1st watch.
- 22:36So there was recently a very famous proposal, a football
- 22:43player proposed to a pop singer, Travis and Taylor I believe
- 22:49their names were. And I wanted to ask you guys,
- 22:52first of all, is it just a British tradition that when a
- 22:56couple get engaged, obviously the the gentleman buys a ring
- 23:00and it's usually either a month or a month and a half's worth of
- 23:04salary for that ring. So is.
- 23:06That three months was. That.
- 23:08Absolutely. Bamboozled we're we're cheap Or
- 23:12both your other halves have been told the wrong information, but
- 23:17so that is tradition that you earn a certain amount of wages
- 23:20on the ring. Yeah, I think less tradition and
- 23:23more marketing, but yes. Yes, and apparently.
- 23:25Different in different parts of the country, but.
- 23:28Yeah, there's a sliding scale, so.
- 23:31Yeah, be careful where you get engaged.
- 23:32If you find if you you find your wife in the South, it might be
- 23:36cheaper than more metropolitan. Even real diamond.
- 23:40Yeah, who knows, but. San Bernardino, yeah.
- 23:44Shout out to San Bernardino, the people of you know were kind
- 23:48enough to send me AT shirt so I thought I would wear it.
- 23:51It's. Amazing.
- 23:52Yeah. You wear it well.
- 23:54I'll be wearing Taylor and Travis T-shirt next week.
- 23:57Tune in. The second piece is obviously
- 24:01the groom and fiance is buying the ring, right?
- 24:06Does the bride have an obligation?
- 24:08In the UK it's kind of considered that the bride would
- 24:11buy the groom a watch to wear for the special day.
- 24:14Is that AUK thing or do you guys subscribe to that?
- 24:17That's so fun. I think it's AUK thing, but I
- 24:20love it. I think we need to bring it over
- 24:22here. We did that.
- 24:24So when my Molly and I got engaged, oh lo, so many years
- 24:28ago, I got her a ring that was three months my salary, which
- 24:34now I know better, and she got me a Rolex at Rolex Milgaus,
- 24:39which is the Rolex I wanted. But then I somehow then got her
- 24:42a Rolex as well, but a cheaper one, an Air King, which now she
- 24:47doesn't even wear anymore because she's got an what is it
- 24:50the the. Yes, the date just.
- 24:52Yeah, the date just that's what it is, which.
- 24:54Is not that. I know all the watches your wife
- 24:56wears, but I know it's the one I have.
- 24:58That's how. I yes, it's the beautiful green
- 25:00one, which you know, so anyway, but you know, we, so we did
- 25:03that. I don't know how common that is.
- 25:05I mean, it seems like, you know, all is fair.
- 25:08And so sweet. I love.
- 25:09Yeah, I love that. But no, I've never heard of
- 25:12that. I've never heard like I've heard
- 25:14of the bride and groom getting each other a gift when they get
- 25:19like like a wedding present to give each other after they're
- 25:23married. But you would need to watch
- 25:24ahead of time. Right.
- 25:26It's right. I like the idea.
- 25:28I mean, certainly watches are involved.
- 25:30It's a great idea, right I? Mean, I guess we like Jay
- 25:32Turkbus kind of helped us do that accidentally.
- 25:35He sent us or like without me realizing that there was a
- 25:38tradition that we could have been ascribing to it, but he
- 25:41sent us his and hers of the green, the the black diver with
- 25:46the green. Yeah, it's cool, you know, Dial.
- 25:49So wow, I happen to be wearing mine today without even
- 25:53realizing we were going to talk about that.
- 25:55So I was thinking then if you were to be wanting to buy the
- 26:01other half a watch or if you wanted to receive a watch, which
- 26:05of the Sheffield watches firstly would you think would be the
- 26:09most appropriate? Knowing that on the wedding day,
- 26:12the worst thing you can turn up with is a really fancy watch
- 26:16that is going to, you know, take the attraction away from your
- 26:19beautiful bride. So firstly, which Sheffield
- 26:22watches would you go for and why that's?
- 26:24A good. Let's see.
- 26:25So if it was a. Beach wedding.
- 26:27If it was a beach wedding, I think the rally would be a great
- 26:30choice because it's very elegant, right?
- 26:33But it fit well. Like it's not too, it's not
- 26:36super flashy, but it's very elegant.
- 26:38It would fit with that, you know, setting and still look
- 26:43classy. Let's see.
- 26:45I do know someone that got married at Laguna Seca.
- 26:48So I think if you did that, sorry, Yeah, you can.
- 26:52Actually, I didn't. I know.
- 26:53I remember going like, wait a minute, I didn't even know that
- 26:55was an option. Well, it could be.
- 26:58I mean. Yeah, yeah, there's still time.
- 27:02I know, right? You know what?
- 27:04We know some people. It's done taken care of.
- 27:08Yeah. I think maybe like a blue like a
- 27:12blue spikes would be kind of cool or the is it the GMT, the
- 27:17blue and red? I think that would be cool if
- 27:20you were getting. Married.
- 27:20Yeah, yeah, yeah. That.
- 27:21I think that would be the one, Although I could probably insert
- 27:24a joke here about the QL one and that it's practical and cheap.
- 27:28That could set the set the path for a marriage.
- 27:30The tone for the watch relationship.
- 27:33No, but I like that idea. I like that GMT.
- 27:35It takes you around the world. I don't know, right.
- 27:37It's just it's, it's worldly. It's.
- 27:39You wouldn't need to change the watch on your honeymoon.
- 27:41You wouldn't need to. Change.
- 27:42No, you just turn that bezel, you know?
- 27:44And I was going to go for the new super production, which is
- 27:48obviously the Swiss made. I think it just looks, you know,
- 27:52next right level of fancy showing off fancy If it was a
- 27:57non Sheffield watch, did you guys have any thoughts around
- 27:59what the equivalent would be? I could go first.
- 28:04Go first if you want. What'd you buy your bride then?
- 28:07Well, it would be what I would be wearing.
- 28:09So what I would expect. Let's go.
- 28:11Yeah, to buy me. So I was thinking about a JJ
- 28:16Lacoute Roberto. So these watches are, I guess
- 28:22they're portrait in shape, aren't they?
- 28:24And they were originally designed for polo players.
- 28:27So to protect while playing polo, you can actually flip the
- 28:31watch over and it becomes some of them have dual time, but it
- 28:34becomes. So then you could have the
- 28:36inscription of the date or something on the other side.
- 28:39So to protect the watch, you can.
- 28:40Flip it over. There was such a demand in the
- 28:42polo community for a watch that without you know it.
- 28:45Was screaming out for it. That's amazing.
- 28:48I I you learned to be something tonight, Dan.
- 28:50I didn't know that. That's right, that car show is
- 28:53called an educational institution.
- 28:56Yeah, I like it. Any other ideas?
- 28:59Yes, so I'm trying to look up the brand because it's it's a
- 29:03really unique watch. And of course I'm blanking on
- 29:07the so Matt Farah has one and I got to see a quail a couple
- 29:12years ago and the dial is made of some a material called
- 29:16Fordite. Have you guys seen?
- 29:19This, yeah. So it's it's cut from the layers
- 29:23of paint on the floors in car factories.
- 29:27Which is so cool. No two of them are the same, but
- 29:30there's a company that makes really beautiful ones.
- 29:33It's also highly carcinogenic, but it's.
- 29:35Beautiful. I mean, oh Arkanot.
- 29:38OK, yeah, they're super cool. They're super cool.
- 29:41I love them and you know, what's so amazing is like, obviously
- 29:45they're all unique and you never know and, and it's kind of fun
- 29:49when they release a new series to guess like which, you know,
- 29:53OEM. Do you think this came from and
- 29:55like what were they painting? Because some of the colors are
- 29:57very distinctive. There was one that had like a,
- 30:00you know, kind of it was like an acid green.
- 30:01And I'm like, is this Porsche Fordite?
- 30:03Because it's it's called Fordite, but they can use.
- 30:06They make it so. Yeah, Porsche Knight has a
- 30:12certain ring. Yeah, there's a Stand by me
- 30:15reference in there, Dan, if you dig deep.
- 30:17But yeah, I'll have to keep looking and me listen to the
- 30:20show, right? Any watches from your side
- 30:22because you used to like trade in watches didn't.
- 30:23You I did you know that that was something yeah.
- 30:27In college and right out of college lived in Chicago and you
- 30:30know, this was back in the day probably told the story.
- 30:32But my first couple jobs out of college, I traveled a lot and
- 30:35I'd go to these small towns or these towns across the country.
- 30:38And I first thing I do would be to check Craigslist and see if
- 30:41anyone was, was trying to unload a Rolex and picked up a lot of
- 30:45watches over the years and would flip them and make a little bit
- 30:47of money and, and so got to try just about everything.
- 30:50I've never much like you've never driven A Miata.
- 30:52I've never owned a Daytona, which is the car guy watch,
- 30:55right, you know, but a lot of submariners, a lot of GMTS and,
- 31:00and explorers and things like like that.
- 31:02And, and I guess that sort of leads me into the watch, I think
- 31:05is kind of the gold standard, if you will, for, for weddings and
- 31:08funerals and everything else. And that's Rolex and, and, and I
- 31:11guess Tudor as well. It's it's sort of junior brand.
- 31:14I, I just, to me, that's always sort of meant something special.
- 31:18I know it's, you know, maybe not as as a rare a watch or as
- 31:23uncommon a watch to see maybe as it once was.
- 31:25But but yeah, I, I, I, I wear 2 watches.
- 31:29I wear Rolexes and I wear Sheffields and they complement
- 31:34each other well. But yeah, if it wouldn't be a
- 31:35Sheffield for me, I think it would probably be a Rolex of
- 31:37some sort, or maybe a tutor and maybe something vintage if you
- 31:40really want to up the cool. Oh that would be cool.
- 31:43Yeah. All those old vintage Rolexes I
- 31:46sold so many years ago to make $1000 that are now worth, you
- 31:49know, live and learn. But don't even think about it.
- 31:53Move on. Yeah, at least at least they
- 31:55weren't fakes like that's. Right.
- 31:58You know the Rolexes came in a fake calculator, at least from
- 32:01China. Yeah, so very good, Very good.
- 32:03Well, let's give folks a chance to win a what?
- 32:06Yes, So what? I'm music or something.
- 32:09Is yeah, that car show, Instagram, we're going to post a
- 32:15picture of a watch and we're going to do that after the show
- 32:20gets released so no one can do it in advance.
- 32:23And what we would like you to do to win potentially one of these
- 32:26watches is firstly follow 2 accounts, follow that car show
- 32:30and follow Sheffield watches. I'm hoping that most of our
- 32:33listeners are already doing both, but just in case that's
- 32:36the first way to opt into this competition, then I want you to
- 32:39comment and say which watch from the Sheffield Watch brand range,
- 32:44would you think that Taylor Swift should buy for Kelsey and
- 32:48why? And you can make that funny, you
- 32:50can make that serious. You can make that, you know,
- 32:52anything you want. You you know, you can say it's
- 32:55because I don't know if she wants him to shake it out or she
- 32:59wants somebody style. Yeah, I'm out of ideas in terms
- 33:07of some names, but yeah. So follow both accounts.
- 33:11Comment on the post that we have specifically with why and which
- 33:16watch from the Sheffield range. Go to Sheffield Watches on all
- 33:20the websites and we will pick the best answer.
- 33:23It'll be a group decision amongst the four of us, Lindsay,
- 33:26Ryan, myself and Michael, and we'll let you know and you'll
- 33:30get your pick of a Sheffield watch.
- 33:31So little effort for great. Reward potential.
- 33:34Yes, creative is is good. The real story here is Dan wants
- 33:38to tag Taylor on Instagram. Did you say tag?
- 33:44What do you do? Sorry, Tag.
- 33:46Is it tag? Oh, that's also a watch brand.
- 33:48OK, All right now and. Then say what you did there.
- 33:51No, I'm sure. Yeah, we have our competition.
- 33:57Yeah, make it happen. Get creative.
- 33:59Yeah, make Dan laugh. Please make me laugh.
- 34:03I was watching another podcast, which was Chris Harris and
- 34:06friends last week and he said something really profound, which
- 34:10he does regularly, but this was really profound and he said say
- 34:14again. No, I was going to say
- 34:16particularly profound, even from someone who is profound quite
- 34:18often. Yes, and he wasn't saying, hey,
- 34:21Lindsay, do you like the ice cream here at Lamont this time
- 34:24around? But he's that was.
- 34:27A1 time thing. His quote was, you know, a car
- 34:30has touched your soul and after driving it, you spent hours on
- 34:34websites looking at used versions.
- 34:36Yeah, yes. So I wanted to ask you.
- 34:38Agreed. What was the last car that
- 34:41touched your soul and why? Ryan, you want to go?
- 34:44I'll go. A car that touched me for the
- 34:47record, good touch was is Lotus Elise.
- 34:51You know, it's A and it's a tiny car, so it touched me all over,
- 34:54I guess. But that was that was really
- 34:59every time I see a Lotus Elise, I go down that rabbit hole even
- 35:03though I hardly fit and they'd have to like Lube me up whatever
- 35:05to slide me in and the top couldn't be on because I can't
- 35:08fold that direction. That is a car that gets me
- 35:11going. They're eternally 3540 thousand
- 35:14dollars. I think they still are.
- 35:17They're just wonderful cars. The cars that they don't make
- 35:20like that anymore and hardly did make at that time, you know,
- 35:24manual steering and everything else, just just special special
- 35:27cars. Incidentally, also one of my
- 35:30bucket list cars, one of my cars you should drive before you die.
- 35:33They're truly, truly special. But I guess also the GT4, the
- 35:37first time I had a A base came in the first time I really had
- 35:41an interaction with the GT4. It was a 2016981 and they're
- 35:50amazing, even when they have mufflers on them.
- 35:52But yeah, you know, it's I I just fell down that rabbit hole
- 35:57and I had to have one and then the, you know, the 2020 came out
- 36:00and I bought one. I've not bought in the lease
- 36:02yet. I probably never will.
- 36:04But yeah, those are the two cars that have have touched my soul.
- 36:08Very good, very good. And Lindsay, what was the last
- 36:11car that touched your soul? The last one was actually a Land
- 36:16Rover Defender. Interesting.
- 36:18Is this a car week? Was this a Pebble?
- 36:20No, it was because when I got to go to Carmel in May and do the
- 36:25Land Rover experience the off road school.
- 36:28Yeah. Yeah, I mean Chris really hit
- 36:31the nail on the head because the amount of time I have spent
- 36:35looking at defender like slightly pre owned defenders is
- 36:41you know, probably an unhealthy amount over the last like since
- 36:44I got back from that trip. Some modern defenders.
- 36:47Yeah, modern defender. What would you get?
- 36:49The 90, the 110, the 1:30? So that's it for you.
- 36:53I I really like the 110 and that would have been my like I would
- 36:57have said, you know, no question.
- 36:59But what was so interest like another interesting part of the
- 37:01trip outside of getting to do the off road school and like
- 37:04learning all of the aspects of off roading and doing it in
- 37:09those cars and seeing how capable they are.
- 37:12Before the actual event started, my dad was over at Laguna Seca
- 37:16doing a vintage racing event and they let me take a brand new
- 37:201:30 to go like pop in and say hi to him at the track.
- 37:25And I was really excited to try it because it is about 20 inches
- 37:29longer I. Think.
- 37:31Than the 110 and I'd only driven a 110.
- 37:34So I'm like this is going to be really interesting.
- 37:35I'm curious to see like does it feel a lot heavier?
- 37:37Is it laggy? Is it slower?
- 37:39Whatever. You can't tell a difference.
- 37:41You do not feel it, which is really a feat when you look at
- 37:45how much longer it is, you know, because it adds weight, it adds
- 37:49drag, all of that. And I took the 1:30 over
- 37:52Loreleus grade, which if you know the area, it's a windy Rd.
- 37:56Like it's, I think of it as sort of like car weeks, Angeles
- 37:59crests, like, you know, short, but it's a lot of elevation,
- 38:05some pretty good turns. And the 1:30 ate it up no
- 38:09problem really. Did you just say that the 1:30
- 38:13I'm going to get it was 20 bigger than the 110?
- 38:18Wouldn't it? I think.
- 38:19Yeah, that's inches, right because.
- 38:21And surely that's the numbers 110 + 20 is 130.
- 38:27Yeah, no, this isn't that how it works.
- 38:29And then there's the 90, which is the short wheel base.
- 38:31Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was subscribing.
- 38:33Proportional. Yeah.
- 38:35People that may not be familiar with what the numbers.
- 38:38Mean yeah it's like I had to think they're for a minute if it
- 38:41was millimeters inches hands like what was going you know
- 38:44it's the Brits so you never know right and.
- 38:46It could be hands. Sorry.
- 38:47They're very agricultural. It's.
- 38:49So that really was the Land Rover Defender, right?
- 38:52Yeah. And would you swap the wrong?
- 38:54Would you swap the Ford 150F-150 four?
- 38:59I hope so. That wasn't an immediate yes,
- 39:02so. What is this Sophie's Choice?
- 39:04Come on. Just the Ford touch you in the
- 39:07same way that the. So you know what's funny?
- 39:10I was thinking about this because a friend texted me
- 39:13yesterday. They were at a shop in LA that
- 39:16had a fifth Gen. Bronco.
- 39:19And I like, I immediately just went, Oh my gosh, it's so
- 39:22exciting. I love it so much.
- 39:24And it's funny because the truck is probably the closest thing to
- 39:29a Bronco like that that you can get.
- 39:33You know, obviously the configuration is slightly
- 39:35different, but it's probably one of the closest things you can
- 39:37get. And that didn't hit me until
- 39:40relatively recently that I was like, I'm basically driving the
- 39:44closest thing I can get to at Morocco.
- 39:46And I really do like, they did a really good job with the design
- 39:49of the truck. I think it's still so classic.
- 39:51Like, it makes me smile when I see it.
- 39:55Yeah. I mean, it's been, you know,
- 39:56it's been with me through a lot. And it's like, really?
- 40:00Been a big part of my life for a long I mean, you know what?
- 40:04I brought my daughter home from the hospital in the truck, so I
- 40:09would have to add the defender. How about that?
- 40:12There we go, there we go. Add it to the stable.
- 40:14The The last car that I think touched my soul was I had the
- 40:19car Week. I was incredibly lucky.
- 40:20I had the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quatrefolio.
- 40:23The car had heard great things about.
- 40:27I'd driven the sister car, which is the Stelvio, which is the
- 40:30SUV, and it was good. This car is just fantastic.
- 40:35Aren't they amazing? It's like a Italian love letter,
- 40:39like like, I just don't know. I've got so many great things to
- 40:43say about this car, like the way that you sit in it and you're
- 40:46next to the pillar, so the window is kind of in front of
- 40:50you, if that makes sense. The way that the car just
- 40:53handles, yeah, the the gearbox, the engine noises, it's yeah,
- 41:01there was a lot of consideration.
- 41:02Do I get rid of the Audi for one of those?
- 41:05Because they they are just perfect.
- 41:07They're over 500 horsepower. Yeah.
- 41:10And it's just the power is there when you need it, turns in
- 41:14incredibly well, makes great noises, amazing stereo.
- 41:17It takes a lot of boxes, yeah. Yeah, and the interior is so not
- 41:21like you feel like you're in this very lovely car, which you
- 41:23are. And they're so capable on, you
- 41:26know, twisty roads. The what was interesting for me
- 41:29about those was when I realized I knew, I think at least three
- 41:33automotive journalists in LA that owned them at one point.
- 41:35And I thought that really tells you something about how good
- 41:39that car is because you look at everything they get to
- 41:41experience and if they're going to commit to something, it has
- 41:44to be really good. And, and they were buying the
- 41:47Julias and I love them and I think it's a great choice.
- 41:51Interesting to Britson and Italian, right?
- 41:54These are, these are the cars that have touched us, yeah.
- 41:57Our soul, that is. Yeah.
- 41:58Yeah, so we. Have to clarify.
- 42:01Right, right. I mean, yeah, I.
- 42:03Want to get technical? Yeah, most times when I get
- 42:07these press cars, I'm like, I'm ready to hand them back.
- 42:10But it was like any excuse to wait a little bit longer before
- 42:13I hand the keys back to the to the alpha.
- 42:15So I'll get one again soon, I'm sure.
- 42:18But yeah. Well, I think that's going to be
- 42:21your equivalent of like, yeah, is it, is it a press car that
- 42:26you want to give back or not, as opposed to like are you spending
- 42:29time on the classifieds? Like if you want to hang on to
- 42:31it, that's another indicator of how good it is.
- 42:34Yeah, well, I approve of both of your choices.
- 42:37I I like both of those cars very much.
- 42:40Not spent much time with the Alpha, but I spent a ton of time
- 42:43with the Defender and it's a car I would buy.
- 42:47Give me the 90 with the 500 horsepower V8.
- 42:51Is that the? Yeah, that's the thing you can
- 42:55buy, have you? Seen how much they are.
- 42:57Yeah, I've priced them out. I mean, this is fancy land,
- 43:01right? How much?
- 43:02Yeah, 170,000. No, they're not that much.
- 43:06Can I take a look the? Well, do they not make them
- 43:08anymore? And they've gone up.
- 43:10No, the Octa is what he. Oh gosh, no, yeah, no, no.
- 43:14This would just be the standard, uh, whatever.
- 43:16I don't know the regular rap scallion model.
- 43:18Yeah, the regular V8. That's right.
- 43:21That's. Right, yeah, I'm keen to get
- 43:23behind the wheel of a Octa so. Yes, yes, let's put it out
- 43:31there. Let's let it manifest.
- 43:34I'm sure we can make that happen.
- 43:35Manifest an Octa for all three of us.
- 43:37That's right, an Octa for the trio, right?
- 43:41You have to change. There's a joke there.
- 43:43I didn't quite find it, but yeah.
- 43:48So what? What is it with these adults who
- 43:52are getting in kids cars and driving them around?
- 43:54Have you guys seen this? Well, they want their souls to
- 43:57be touched. Right, in a very different way.
- 44:01Well, and I think what what caught my attention was the
- 44:05different results for the two drivers because the poor guy in
- 44:08Canada just wanted a slushie and he ended up getting arrested.
- 44:12But what was he driving, Lindsay?
- 44:13What was he driving? He was driving a girl, a little
- 44:16girl's Barbie Jeep, as one does now, I think.
- 44:20I think maybe the only flaw in his process was he did it during
- 44:24rush hour. You know, if he had picked a
- 44:26less populated time, I. Think rush hour in.
- 44:29Yeah, rush hour in, I mean in this remote town in Canada, you
- 44:32know, who knows? It's all relative.
- 44:34Right, Yeah, yeah, yeah. But maybe I'll insert the the
- 44:38interview with the guy. But it was, it was pretty
- 44:40classic. Yeah.
- 44:42Yeah, that's right. On Friday, a Prince George man
- 44:45was pulled over and arrested right here after he was seen
- 44:48driving a child sized. Pink.
- 44:49Barbie Jeep down this busy Rd. And I wanted, just wanted to get
- 44:53it to Slurpee. I got lazy.
- 44:55I didn't want to walk. I think he's just, you know,
- 44:57he's a solution oriented guy. He's got a great taste in cars,
- 45:01I think, I think. I hope he's got a daughter.
- 45:04He's got his daughter a slushie as well because she's gonna
- 45:07borrow. And then there was a dude in LA.
- 45:09That's the guy I'm a little concerned about because he's not
- 45:11going to be alive. No, I kept thinking we were
- 45:14going to see his demise in the video, like what is happening?
- 45:19He's in a Porsche, a miniature Porsche, which, you know, might
- 45:22be the only thing any of us can afford here before too long, the
- 45:25way Porsche is raising their prices.
- 45:27But yeah, in LA, delivering what?
- 45:30Food or something? Doing Uber Eats and again, it's
- 45:32like a, it's like a 911, but it's a children.
- 45:35'S yeah, yeah. 9/11 body because they put whatever kids, you
- 45:39know, body on top of these little jeeps.
- 45:41But it had some power. It had some power.
- 45:44He's keeping up. But he's in traffic, regular
- 45:47traffic on the on the streets. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:50Two inches off the ground. Yeah, and I mean traffic.
- 45:53I thought he was going to get taken out by a bus at one point,
- 45:55another time, like, because he doesn't, you know, he's not
- 45:58observing the rules of the road. No he's not.
- 46:01Bike lanes, splitting lanes. Well, and then he did a donut in
- 46:05the intersection at one point. I'm like, this is it's not going
- 46:09to end well. But what's no, what's wild is
- 46:11like, you know, the police clamped down on our poor friend
- 46:13in the Barbie Jeep so quickly. And this guy just seems to have
- 46:16free reign in Beverly Hills. But but not work with the with
- 46:21the app, you know the Uber Eats app or the the and you can see
- 46:26your driver and What Car they're driving.
- 46:29Probably just put Porsche or whatever, right?
- 46:31Porsche 9/11 You know it's, but look at the fun that Mofo's
- 46:35having. I mean, Dan, have you ever
- 46:36smiled like that? Ever hammed it up like that in
- 46:38your Boxster? I mean, he was.
- 46:40Maybe that's where it's at. Yeah, yeah.
- 46:43You're skirting the, you know, the fine line of death about
- 46:46delivering Uber Eats to the fine citizens of Los Angeles.
- 46:50I mean, that guy's living his best life.
- 46:53He's like, can we talk further about Porsche?
- 46:57Oh yes, yes, we can talk more about Porsche Dan.
- 47:00Firstly, I want to file it under.
- 47:03I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed.
- 47:06So I think there are a number of articles now to say that the
- 47:10next Gen. 718 models will be available in both electric and
- 47:15gas engines. After being told, well, that
- 47:19that was it, they were done, Yeah, They're coming back with
- 47:22more ICE engines, yeah. But it's only the top and they
- 47:26didn't define top. Models that doesn't that doesn't
- 47:29help us any of us. No GT4 GT 4, right?
- 47:33Boxster, GTS 4.0, these are the top models and, and, you know,
- 47:37say goodbye to our retirement, you know, respective retirement
- 47:40plans guys, because these are the cars that they're going to
- 47:42continue making, which I'm not sad for, but yeah, I, you know,
- 47:46I thought we had the last of the last here.
- 47:48I was going to say, I know we definitely like we all sort of
- 47:51enjoyed like, hey, we got it right for what without even
- 47:55realizing. Yeah, we still got it right,
- 47:57don't we? Still.
- 47:58Absolutely got it right. But yeah, that was.
- 48:00Clear. I know because that article,
- 48:03that announcement was made that they were just continuing the
- 48:06ICE engines two days after Tori and I got the GT4 and we were
- 48:11like, wait a minute, talk about right place, right time.
- 48:16And you know, it was nice while it lasted, but but the new ones
- 48:20are obviously going to be like accessible to a certain level of
- 48:23people and like you said, Ryan, the prices are going to keep
- 48:25going up. So I.
- 48:27We're still in my. Words position all.
- 48:29Of us no, no, mark my words. The new GT4 will start at at
- 48:33least $150,000. Now let's remember that in 2020,
- 48:38you know, at least in theory, you could get a no options GT4
- 48:42for 99.9. I think it was Yeah, so but but
- 48:46but look what's happened to the GT3.
- 48:48I mean, they were in Porsche was leaving that money on the table,
- 48:50right? So why wouldn't they raise, you
- 48:52know, the the sticker? But you, you mark my words, at
- 48:55least 150,000 to start for the next GT4.
- 48:59So electric and gas at the same time, but it was interesting.
- 49:04Did you guys see the concept Audi TT that was?
- 49:08Launched. How about that?
- 49:10So that I don't know if you guys know this, but this is going to
- 49:13production. There's a really good Top Gear
- 49:16video on it. If you get the chance to see it
- 49:17online. It's going to production.
- 49:19It's going to be an all electric convertible, but it's actually
- 49:23going to be using all the technology from the new electric
- 49:26box star, but it's coming out before the electric box star.
- 49:30But it won't be quite as good because it would be quite as
- 49:33good. But it's interesting that they
- 49:37they seem to be like, OK, we need to test these cars further,
- 49:41Let's put something else out to market.
- 49:43And then let's, let's be frank too.
- 49:44I mean, Audi's never been known for for its engines in quite the
- 49:48same way that Porsche has, right?
- 49:51So, you know, why wouldn't they do it that way?
- 49:54It's not as integral as part of part of I.
- 49:57Think they would make a bolder statement if they said, hey, you
- 50:00know, we are the the Audi Group, the Volkswagen Audi Group and
- 50:03we're going to lead our electric charge, electric charge with
- 50:08with the Porsche, right. If they could have gone and said
- 50:12we believe in our products so much that we're going to start
- 50:15with the Porsche and then the other cars are going to inherit
- 50:18the technology, that for me would have been the move.
- 50:20Yeah, but I don't know. I'd probably buy an electric
- 50:24Audi before I would an electric Porsche, Yeah.
- 50:26You know. Really so OK, so explain, help
- 50:29me understand. That again, I just, I don't
- 50:31know, I want a flat 6. You know, think about Audi's
- 50:34history of, of, of engines, right?
- 50:36You know, 5 cylinders, yeah, they have a certain charm or
- 50:40whatever. But you know, I've owned a
- 50:42couple Audis over the years. The engine really wasn't the not
- 50:46quite sure what the highlight was for either one of those cars
- 50:49to be. Now that I think about it
- 50:52#unremarkable is what I'm hearing.
- 50:56Well, one, the first one seized up at 40,000 miles, you know,
- 51:00and the second one said it delivered 344 horsepower but
- 51:03never quite felt like it. The Porsche isn't, as we all
- 51:06know about Porsche horsepower, right?
- 51:08It's always, you know. Yeah.
- 51:11German stallion, the opposite of Mustang.
- 51:15Sorry, Lindsay, the opposite of Mustang I.
- 51:18Feel to let that one go. Yeah, the other throw I had
- 51:21around that Audi TT is if that had been the Jaguar move,
- 51:25because they're quite similar in design.
- 51:28But if Jaguar had come out with a car more similar to that,
- 51:31yeah, and didn't do that bullshit advertising campaign.
- 51:34Yeah, yeah, yeah. It would be onto a flyer.
- 51:37Well, I think the Audi's a little more of a, what do you
- 51:40want to call it, a little bit more of a, of a statement in the
- 51:43design. I thought the Jaguar was a
- 51:45little a little more just what? Oh, did I?
- 51:49Yeah. 50 years old, It's 50 years it's taken.
- 51:53Me finally got him trained. Yeah, this Midwestern boy to
- 51:55what? Calls attention to it if he
- 51:57doesn't think about it. Just next.
- 52:00Do we have to give him the train or something?
- 52:01No, it's gonna. Be like, sort of poor Sasha was
- 52:04on the show and I pronounced his name three his name three
- 52:06different ways, right? Just to cover my bases.
- 52:09No, I, I think that Audi's a bit more of a statement.
- 52:11It's a little more confident, right.
- 52:13And it's, you know, the, the cut of its jib or whatever you want
- 52:16to say. The, the Jaguar, you know, just,
- 52:19ah, see, there I go. The Jaguar we may be thinking
- 52:22about. See, now I'm going to think
- 52:23about it. Yeah.
- 52:25Yeah, yeah. I, I, I you got to own it,
- 52:27right? Yeah, it's your right.
- 52:29I think you got to own it. I think that's the the secret.
- 52:31I mean, you know there's a phrase, you know, walk like a
- 52:35Panther, right? You go into a room, you.
- 52:38Know we'll talk a jockey with him.
- 52:39And they that didn't happen, hopefully.
- 52:41And that didn't happen. So yeah.
- 52:43I think it's like what's the Cologne in Anchorman?
- 52:4560% of the time it works every. Time, by the way, guys, I I
- 52:51desperately need a haircut. My hair is very long and I ran
- 52:54out of product and I usually get product at the salon, but it's
- 52:57like $50.00 for this little thing of pomades.
- 52:59I ordered some on Amazon tonight.
- 53:00Suave, OK, and it smells just like a 16 year old boy like.
- 53:06I don't want to know how you know this like.
- 53:10No, we're not going to ask those questions.
- 53:12Yeah, wow. They all wear like that Axe body
- 53:15spray or whatever. It is say like it's along the
- 53:19lines of Axe body spray. So what I'm hearing is be glad
- 53:22that the podcast is only audio and visual and.
- 53:25We don't have mainly vision is not coming anytime soon.
- 53:29Yeah. OK.
- 53:30Moving on. I think we should probably do a
- 53:34shout out to our friends. So our friends at Drake Motor
- 53:38Cars, yeah. Who will be launching their new
- 53:42warehouse on the 11th of October in Denver?
- 53:46It's their grand opening and I think Ryan, you know the guys
- 53:49really well. Are they excited for it?
- 53:50Yeah, shout out Willis and and Rob and and they've got some
- 53:53great cars and and some great partners along with us with this
- 53:57grand opening. I think I saw Cars and Bids and
- 53:59Avant's and some other yeah, friends of ours.
- 54:02But yeah, they're going to have some great stuff, already do.
- 54:05But this is their official grand opening and they they really do
- 54:07specialize in the cars that we like, right.
- 54:10So all the stuff that, you know, that touches us, right, you
- 54:13know, is the stuff that presumably will be in their
- 54:15inventory. So perfect.
- 54:17Yeah. Yeah, so if you're free on the
- 54:1911th of October, we've posted it on our socials.
- 54:24So yeah, go check them out, go get a nice a nice look around
- 54:28the warehouse and maybe a glass of champagne or something.
- 54:30Absolutely, yeah. And.
- 54:31Just decide what you want to add to your collection.
- 54:33That's right. Good luck on the on the, yeah.
- 54:37Some we sent you. What else do we know well?
- 54:42Can I just add that you know all this Porsche talk?
- 54:44Doug Demuro said. It must be.
- 54:47True. Away with this one, Lindsay.
- 54:49I thought we were going to be like Mike.
- 54:51There's only so many times Ryan can send you the same article on
- 54:54text. Will you not be able to ignore
- 54:56it? Right.
- 54:57Come on there, Ryan. Let's have it.
- 54:59We tried. So hard.
- 55:01So I'll be real honest, I had, I had never listened to the this
- 55:05car pod podcast before today, but then I saw GT4 and I clicked
- 55:10on it and I really liked it. They do a great job.
- 55:12I really, I really like the, I like what those kids are doing
- 55:16over there, but no great job. I honestly, I feel like it's a
- 55:19very, the, their podcast is very aligned with sort of our, our
- 55:22style and what we're into and all that.
- 55:23And, and Doug talked about the, how the GT 4 really is the best
- 55:29sports car you can buy and anything that strays from the GT
- 55:324 really is a compromise in some way.
- 55:35I don't want to take all his content.
- 55:36So you should go and listen to the episode.
- 55:40You'll know it when you hear it. But basically, you know, the GT
- 55:434 is the best sports car, which I mean, come on, the three of
- 55:45us. I mean, you talked about
- 55:47journalists, you know, driving and owning the, you know, the,
- 55:51the Julia, right. I think, you know, it's a
- 55:52similar thing here. We, you know, we put our money
- 55:55where our mouths are and, and basically anything that strays
- 55:59from this, this model is, is a, is a, it's a compromise in some
- 56:04way, right? You either want more comfort or,
- 56:07you know, less comfort or, you know, but it, but it's kind of
- 56:10like, you know, it's kind of the, the, the whole package,
- 56:13right? And you know, it was just, it
- 56:16was nice to hear because I've been reaching the praises of
- 56:18this car for a long, long time until people are sick of hearing
- 56:21about it. But he said the same thing.
- 56:23So go check this out. Tell us if you disagree, but
- 56:26again, I think the proof is in the pudding and all the other,
- 56:28you know, phrases. I can, I can pair it here
- 56:31because we, I mean you've got a 16, I've got a 20 and Dan's got
- 56:362424 GTS 4. Point stop calling just to
- 56:41answer his argument. I do know his number is on your
- 56:44phone so he senses the GT for it.
- 56:48It's like the bat signal for us GT4.
- 56:50My question here is Doug, He's obviously a very wealthy
- 56:53gentleman. Yes, he's obviously got the
- 56:55Carrera GT, the 2005 Ford GT, the contache.
- 57:01If he's saying it's the best car, why doesn't he own one?
- 57:05Doug. Doug.
- 57:06I'm pointing this question out to the man himself.
- 57:07He should have answered the phone, I guess, is what I'm
- 57:10hearing. Yeah, just asked.
- 57:12I wondered the same thing, you know, because he is a man of of
- 57:15wealth and taste. You know, he's got that the
- 57:17little that the rag top G class and all these other amazing
- 57:20things and he's not afraid to buy something if he likes it,
- 57:22right, right. Hell, he bought that Audi A2 I
- 57:25saw which doesn't do a thing for me, but I guess it's mildly
- 57:29interesting and. I think that was part of a
- 57:32challenge. Yeah, they're doing a challenge
- 57:34with a Fiat multiplayer and a two and something else.
- 57:37So he bought it for a challenge. I don't think he bought it to
- 57:39keep as a a long term. That's right.
- 57:42Well, now it's got Doug Provenance right.
- 57:43So he can sell it for more than he paid for.
- 57:45And this is the difference between I guess our podcast and
- 57:48theirs. They go and they import cars
- 57:50from Europe to to, you know, to have challenges with and we talk
- 57:54in theoretical terms about traffic.
- 57:56My T-shirts with San Bernardino, that's OK.
- 58:00Right. We have to start somewhere.
- 58:01We're just not at that point yet.
- 58:03Yes. I mean, we're manifesting an
- 58:06Octa, so that's a good place, yeah.
- 58:08That's right, that's right, that's right.
- 58:10And that T-shirt, now that you know, you can see us is, is
- 58:13really is is quite the, quite the piece, Stan.
- 58:16I feel like I don't have to do something to kind of give it
- 58:20some more. So now you're wearing black.
- 58:22Yes, and a teacher. This is San Bernardino on it.
- 58:26What else does that say? Is there a picture of something
- 58:28like? It's I didn't see any palm
- 58:30trees. Maybe they're marijuana plants.
- 58:33I. Think they probably are too.
- 58:38San Bernardino Oh, they're going to come for us.
- 58:41I know they are, Sir. San.
- 58:42Bernardino, Holly City. What did?
- 58:44They say no good deed goes unpunished.
- 58:46I know. Yeah, this is as much anyone's
- 58:48talked about San Bernardino on a podcast in years.
- 58:51It's it's cool. But I do want to know why Doug
- 58:54doesn't have AGT 4. And the next time he's in
- 58:57Denver, he can he can come out with me and mine and I'll
- 59:00convince him to buy one. But.
- 59:03But you're right, I mean, it is, it's, it's not for nothing that
- 59:07the three of us have committed to the same car.
- 59:09Basically, yeah. Without any like, without
- 59:12coordinating like, that's just the way it has worked out.
- 59:15And every time we talk about them, we say how much we're
- 59:17still enjoying. Them absolutely.
- 59:19And we're practical people, practical cheap now, but you
- 59:23know, but I, I can't swing a new like Aston Martin or a new
- 59:27McLaren or something because those cars take a hit and, and
- 59:30something the GT4 apparently is, is immune from all that.
- 59:34And so they're really it's invested do it as well.
- 59:37We just get to drive them. That's right.
- 59:39That's right. Yeah.
- 59:41Anyway, I, I they had a term for the term is escaping me.
- 59:44It was something clever in a way that only Doug Demiro can kind
- 59:46of can coin. But but yeah, it in the spectrum
- 59:53of cars, there was but one that rules supreme, reign supreme,
- 59:57and all the others are are mere compromises.
- 59:59So, well, it's always nice to have somebody.
- 1:00:02You know that people listen to declare that that car happens to
- 1:00:05be wrong. You already have, yeah.
- 1:00:07It's good to have some of the people listen to say that the GT
- 1:00:094 is a good car anyway. Wow, Stepped in it to it.
- 1:00:17Stepped in it to it tonight, guys.
- 1:00:19Check out the video and if you want to know where the link is,
- 1:00:22just ask Ryan to text it to you. Yeah.
- 1:00:27Indeed. What have we guys got coming up
- 1:00:30over the next couple of weeks much?
- 1:00:32I think, again, just try to get out and enjoy the driving
- 1:00:35weather while it holds and, you know, create my own rallies of
- 1:00:39one. Maybe we'll see.
- 1:00:41With no music with. No music supposed to be on the
- 1:00:44Rocky Mountain Automotive Press 4 by 4 day tomorrow where they
- 1:00:47get all the manufacturers to bring out their favorite 4 by
- 1:00:51fours and over landing vehicles and it just couldn't, couldn't
- 1:00:54make it work. So I'm sad that I won't be able
- 1:00:56to do that because that would have been content for days.
- 1:00:58Right. Well, that was where you got,
- 1:01:01that was where you go to drive. The the Fender last year, right?
- 1:01:05That that's right. That's where I fell in love with
- 1:01:07and I've driven that same car. It's in the, it was in the press
- 1:01:10fleet a couple times since it was the, the classic or the
- 1:01:13whatever, the one with the retro, you know, the white steel
- 1:01:15wheels and all that. And that that would be the one
- 1:01:17if I didn't get the 500 horsepower.
- 1:01:18For was it the country? Edition must have been Yeah, it
- 1:01:22was a like a baby blue white. But it has white.
- 1:01:25Yeah, it's so good. So that's or no?
- 1:01:28You know what? The country is White with a blue
- 1:01:32roof and a blue tailgate. Can you tell?
- 1:01:35I too many variations, yeah. Yeah, and it has the white
- 1:01:40steelies. Yeah, the only thing I can't
- 1:01:42search history. It's all defender, Defender.
- 1:01:44Right. Yeah, it's.
- 1:01:46All well, as far as search history goes, search histories
- 1:01:49go, that's probably not a good one.
- 1:01:51Well, and it's it's the county edition is the one I'm.
- 1:01:55Not the country. But which Hawks back to the old
- 1:01:58models? That's right.
- 1:01:59Yeah, but what's funny about the county edition is that it
- 1:02:03doesn't come with heated. The second row seats are not
- 1:02:06heated so. That doesn't.
- 1:02:10Interesting have to suffer. I know I'm like, what does it
- 1:02:13make me a bad mom if I'm like, but it's so pretty on the
- 1:02:15outside. You can wear another jacket.
- 1:02:19Kids, they don't know better. I know.
- 1:02:21But they do. That's the problem.
- 1:02:23They know that your seat heaters exist.
- 1:02:26Right. They know that they exist.
- 1:02:27And you know, if we lived in Southern California, then I
- 1:02:30could say like it's not a necessity, but it gets below
- 1:02:33freezing here. So it's it's a little more of a
- 1:02:36bad mom moment if I'm like, yeah, but it looks great.
- 1:02:39Suck it up. Just turn the heater up.
- 1:02:41Yeah. So a bit of driving you're not.
- 1:02:45Are you going to do any driving this weekend right?
- 1:02:46I'm going to do my best. Yeah, I've got an article to
- 1:02:48write. I just got nice Tom.
- 1:02:51It's a blessing to write about the grand for Autoblogs, so
- 1:02:54that's, that's cool. I got to make that happen here
- 1:02:56in the next couple of days and that's awesome.
- 1:03:00Yeah, I would. Put you right, that's probably
- 1:03:01one of the first published articles on the ground.
- 1:03:05Yes, there have only been a couple over the years and and I
- 1:03:08think that'll be something I touch on in the article.
- 1:03:11It's kind of an exclusive thing. That is great.
- 1:03:14So you got to walk that line, right?
- 1:03:15You don't want to give too much away.
- 1:03:17You know too many of the secrets, but you want to peel
- 1:03:19back the curtain a little bit. And yeah, I expect I'll go way
- 1:03:23over the word limit because I'll, uh, poetic again.
- 1:03:27Approximately. 3 maybe? Get paid twice as much, right?
- 1:03:34That's maybe. Not a bad.
- 1:03:34Move. You can do an article per day of
- 1:03:37the event. Yes, I mean, it's I could write
- 1:03:39a book. I I really could write a book
- 1:03:42so. Well, you did.
- 1:03:43Here we go. Descriptions.
- 1:03:44Yeah. I've read the book.
- 1:03:46What am I talking? About I've read the book several
- 1:03:49times, just a different book. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:52And I got to give a shout out to my daughter, 12 years old Elsa.
- 1:03:55She's babysitting for the first time tomorrow night, so we'll be
- 1:03:59very close to houses away just in case.
- 1:04:03And it will. It'll be perfect.
- 1:04:04She's wonderful. But yeah, very excited about her
- 1:04:07and very excited that she's going to start bringing some
- 1:04:09money into the house. That's right, right?
- 1:04:11No way. That's a big step and that's I
- 1:04:14babysat a lot. When I and I.
- 1:04:17Think that's an amazing gig for that age?
- 1:04:19And yeah, nothing like being able to bring in your own like
- 1:04:22pocket money. She her first question was,
- 1:04:25well, what do I eat? Well, I'm there because I'm
- 1:04:27going over at 7:00. And I said that's the best part
- 1:04:29about babysitting. You can just pillage the
- 1:04:32cupboards. Nice.
- 1:04:34It's like all their best stuff. Minimum.
- 1:04:36Wage. But nobody tells you you've had
- 1:04:37too much ice cream, so you're great.
- 1:04:39Yeah. HBO, all the mod cons.
- 1:04:45That my dad did, which I didn't appreciate at the time, but I
- 1:04:49remember I came home from my first babysitting job and I had,
- 1:04:53you know, I mean, when I first started babysitting, I think I
- 1:04:55got $0.50 an hour, which is like.
- 1:04:57It's gone up a bit better. You were really getting let
- 1:05:00down. I know Well, but yeah.
- 1:05:05And I remember I was so excited with however many dollars I had
- 1:05:09made or whatever. And he's.
- 1:05:10Apparently 2. Yeah.
- 1:05:13And he said that's great. I need you're going to give me
- 1:05:16half so that I could start to learn about taxes.
- 1:05:21Oh my God. That's all.
- 1:05:23He he no, not, not for him to keep the intent was like they
- 1:05:28would save half of my earnings. But he was like, I want you to
- 1:05:30understand when you make money in the real world, yeah, you
- 1:05:35don't keep everything you make. Yeah, no, no.
- 1:05:37And you're in California, so half tracks, right?
- 1:05:39That's yeah. I was going to say, you should
- 1:05:41have said to your dad, Dad, we're in Portland now.
- 1:05:44I'm taking another dollar back, right?
- 1:05:49I thought you're going to say he came around like knocked on the
- 1:05:51windows. Oh no, no, there was.
- 1:05:54There was came to take your money.
- 1:05:56There was a neighbor that did that.
- 1:05:58Once. Oh, Jesus.
- 1:05:59Man. Every now and then I still think
- 1:06:01about that. It was not my favorite.
- 1:06:02It's. Awful.
- 1:06:03That's awful. Well, I on the first have got a
- 1:06:06tour of the Singer Factory. You do.
- 1:06:09Not that I'm buying 1. I don't want to start that
- 1:06:11rumor, but you had to start that rumor.
- 1:06:13Have a look around and. Got all these new sponsors?
- 1:06:16Yeah, right. Yeah.
- 1:06:18Singer money now. Dance baller.
- 1:06:20Real singing money right there. That's cool.
- 1:06:23Yeah. So I'm looking forward to going
- 1:06:24and seeing they've got obviously the new factory in Torrance.
- 1:06:27Yeah, excellent. So I'm looking forward to seeing
- 1:06:30Sheamus and if. You say hello.
- 1:06:31Well. I'm excited to hear what you
- 1:06:34think. That's really.
- 1:06:34Cool, Yeah, yeah. Looking forward to it.
- 1:06:36It should be good fun. Good fun.
- 1:06:39But I guess that's a show, isn't it?
- 1:06:40I. Think that is a show?
- 1:06:42Well, that was all over the place, wasn't it?
- 1:06:44That was a cruise show in every sense of the.
- 1:06:47We did have some structure, we just might not be able to show
- 1:06:49it that well. Yeah.
- 1:06:51You're going to have to listen really carefully to find the
- 1:06:53structure. That's right, yeah, Alex, he's
- 1:06:55on a postcard. Yeah, in that first 20 minutes,
- 1:06:58all you could do is listen, so. Yeah, we're sorry.
- 1:07:02Well, he's going to leave us with the phrase that pays.
- 1:07:05I am happy to do it. Thank you so much for joining
- 1:07:07us. We're that car show and remember
- 1:07:09always be driving.
