- 0:01Welcome to Rick and That Michelle Chick, the weekly
- 0:05podcast where your hosts, Rick and Michelle, confidently dive
- 0:10into topics they know absolutely nothing about and somehow make
- 0:15it sound legit. They're not experts.
- 0:17They're not qualified. Honestly, they barely googled
- 0:20it. So grab a drink, lower your
- 0:23expectations, and let's pretend this counts as content.
- 0:28So buckle up. Facts are optional, but the
- 0:31bullshit? That's premium grade.
- 0:34This is Rick and that Michelle chick.
- 0:41I am back from San Diego. Welcome back, welcome, welcome
- 0:45back. Thank you, the trip was fun.
- 0:48The weather was good. Weather was like upper 60s lower
- 0:5370s. I got to go to the spa one day
- 0:57so that was nice coming home, getting through TSA in San
- 1:01Diego, easy breezy which we are pre-check and it took which
- 1:06pre-check was open. It took us 8 minutes to get
- 1:10through security and we got there like 2 hours early because
- 1:14we were afraid. But also by the time we came
- 1:17home, that was Thursday. And so every the TSA had started
- 1:22to get paid and they had got back pay.
- 1:25And so all that was kind of working itself out.
- 1:28But I did see some of the stanchions in the San Diego
- 1:32airport, like coming all the way up the little sky walks, and it
- 1:37had little signs, like for what gates?
- 1:39So obviously at one point in time, it was crazy and people
- 1:43were lined up outside, which I cannot even imagine.
- 1:48So yeah, it was good. Leaving though, you know, we fly
- 1:53out of, we flew out of Yakima. Sometimes we fly out of Pasco.
- 1:56It just really depends. But we flew out of Yakima and
- 1:59you know, we always have to go to Seattle.
- 2:01We don't have a choice in Yakima.
- 2:02That's the only thing we the only option we have.
- 2:05And our flight had mechanical issues.
- 2:07Of course it did. Yes.
- 2:09So it was 3 hours late getting here, which they finally just
- 2:14brought a new plane, which I'm kind of thankful for.
- 2:17But then of course, we missed our connecting flight in Seattle
- 2:20to San Diego. And so then that is just a
- 2:23cascade of events that is a pain in the ass.
- 2:27But luckily we made it to San Diego.
- 2:29I think we finally made it to San Diego at like 11:30 PM, and
- 2:34we were supposed to leave Yakima at on that 2:30 PM flight.
- 2:38So wow. Yeah, we had been in the airport
- 2:41all damn day. So yeah, but we made it there.
- 2:46You were ready for that that trip to be done.
- 2:48Yeah, I was ready to go to the spa by that point and I was
- 2:51like, yeah, just. Now, did you stay I, I since
- 2:55it's been a couple weeks, did you stay the entire week?
- 2:58We were there Sunday through Thursday night, so.
- 3:00Nice. OK.
- 3:01So it's a good, that's a good long while.
- 3:03Yeah, normally we would stay till Friday, but because of
- 3:06Easter, we came home Friday, Thursday night.
- 3:10So yeah. Do you?
- 3:12Do you celebrate Easter? I mean we OK in those curious,
- 3:17how do you OK frame celebrating Easter to me?
- 3:20Like, do you mean like do I go to church or do we do like a
- 3:25family thing and Easter egg and Easter Bunny?
- 3:28No, you don't go to church because you'd go up in flames if
- 3:30you walked into church. So I get, I understand that.
- 3:32No, I, it's just. Fascinating you're 1 to talk.
- 3:35Yeah, I mean, I got, Yeah, trust me.
- 3:37I don't know. It's it's one of those things
- 3:38where it fascinates me because funny thing is Patty, my morning
- 3:42to a partner. She, she makes her husband and
- 3:46he's 65 years old. She makes him a basket.
- 3:48Are you serious? Yeah, all these different, all
- 3:50these different things. And so and, and not, I don't
- 3:52think she necessarily goes to church, but but she celebrates
- 3:56Easter in a big, in a big way, so.
- 3:58Well, I mean, we do still do the kids.
- 4:01And when I say kids like they're adults, yeah, we still do Easter
- 4:06baskets for them and even Benjamin and Haley, who now have
- 4:10a baby. Well, of course.
- 4:14Obviously, like the baby gets an Easter basket, but yeah,
- 4:18normally that's what we do. We do the Easter baskets.
- 4:22Jackson and Shaylee colored Easter eggs because Jackson was
- 4:25home. And by celebrating Easter, we
- 4:29have a big family Easter celebration at our house,
- 4:35luckily. Like dinner and stuff like that.
- 4:37Yeah, yeah, it luckily it's potluck.
- 4:39Everybody brings something and then we have a little kid Easter
- 4:42egg hunt for like, so that's like the plastic eggs with
- 4:46quarters and candy in them. Then we have like bigger kid
- 4:51Easter egg, you know, like the ones that are, I'm too big to
- 4:55hunt Easter eggs with the little kids, but yet, you know, you can
- 4:58tell they would still kind of like to do it.
- 5:01And so we do 1 golden egg for them and they each egg has $20
- 5:06in it, but they only get to find one.
- 5:09And so we do that. Then we do the adult Easter egg.
- 5:13This is the bigger eggs and we put the little bottles of
- 5:17alcohol lottery tickets, gummies and then there's one special egg
- 5:23that has $100 bill in it. And so the adults, I think the
- 5:27adults go Cray Cray over the adults are funnier to watch in
- 5:31the Easter egg hunt than than the kids because they are just
- 5:36competitive and funny. So and you've.
- 5:38Been doing this this celebration for years.
- 5:40Yeah, yeah. And then we have.
- 5:42Have you seen those confetti eggs at Walmart where you crack
- 5:46them open and confetti falls all over becoming like carton?
- 5:53And I started getting these years ago and the kids loved it
- 5:59because they were able to smash them on the adults heads.
- 6:03And now I feel like the adults get into it even more than the
- 6:07kids, which is probably because we take out our anger on each
- 6:11other with these eggs by cracking them on, chasing each
- 6:16other around the guard. And so so yeah, that is the
- 6:20gamut of the festivities that happen at our house.
- 6:24So yeah, it's a lot of fun and. But your mom doesn't go to
- 6:27church or any of that kind of stuff.
- 6:29I don't think she went to church, no.
- 6:31I mean, my grandma would have gone to church, which probably
- 6:36probably Easter service would be my least favorite because it was
- 6:41so long, you know, it would be so long.
- 6:43Everybody would get communion where Christmas Eve.
- 6:46I loved Christmas Eve's service because you had the candles and
- 6:51anyway, so. I think it, I think it's
- 6:53interesting being. I think it's interesting and
- 6:55fascinating being. But Jay and I don't do baskets
- 6:59for each other. I know we still do them for the
- 7:01kids, but. But you're not.
- 7:03Would you consider yourself a non religious person?
- 7:05To some degree, I mean I I want to believe, but I also want
- 7:11there to be more proof. OK so so I'm not atheist but.
- 7:17So you're I'm an I'm. Kind of on, yeah, I'm kind of on
- 7:20the fence. I'm an I'm an agnostic.
- 7:22I I believe anything's possible. Yes, I'm I'm just on the fence
- 7:26about it. OK at.
- 7:27This point but it but it's just it's just interesting because
- 7:30not not that Easter can't just be a fun holiday right to have
- 7:33to do to do eggs and and candy and all that fun stuff, but
- 7:36isn't it? Would you not consider it a
- 7:38predominantly religious? Oh, definitely.
- 7:41Yeah, of. Course.
- 7:42Because Good Friday. Yeah, You know.
- 7:45The dogs are saying yes, it's a religious.
- 7:49Do the. Do the dogs get Easter baskets?
- 7:51No, no, we, no, we now that Kyron, what?
- 7:56Kyron is going to be 23 years old, I think 23.
- 7:59We haven't done a, he hasn't had anything in like 5 years.
- 8:02Megan doesn't I was going to ask you what now that we just talked
- 8:06about my Easter celebration, like what is what is it like in
- 8:09your household? Like Kyron doesn't get a basket
- 8:11or Nope you don't color. Megan doesn't make you all color
- 8:14Easter eggs or. No, it's been, it's, I want to
- 8:17say it's been years. I can't, you know, it's one of
- 8:20those things where, yeah, there's there's nothing.
- 8:22There was nothing going on. I think that we spent the day.
- 8:24Megan spent the day doing yard. Work.
- 8:27So it's just another day for you, is what you're saying?
- 8:29Yeah, I mean, it hadn't been, I mean, as a kid, of course, my
- 8:35foster parents were religious or whatever.
- 8:37So I mean, it's like I've had my fair, I've had my fair shares of
- 8:40Easter. One thing, and this is not to
- 8:42get off course, but I'll just do a quick jab at it, I did not
- 8:45like that in our building at in in Yakima, they had picked Good
- 8:50Friday as one of our holidays. Well, I don't remember that.
- 8:52Yeah, they'd pick Good Friday as one because you you get to pick
- 8:559 holidays. Great.
- 8:57So yeah, I remember that. I remember them trying to decide
- 9:00which holidays were going to. Be on the calendar and it's
- 9:03like, well, I'm not religious, so why would I want Good Friday
- 9:05to be one of my holidays? I mean well.
- 9:07And why wouldn't you? I would pick like the day after
- 9:10Easter, you know, to me. I just didn't, I just didn't
- 9:15like the fact that they picked Good Friday as a, as a holiday
- 9:19for me because it's like, it's like, because it's like, I don't
- 9:24know, it's just not for me. It's just not a holiday.
- 9:26I mean, I get it as a holiday. Don't get me wrong.
- 9:28It's a holiday. I understand that.
- 9:29But, but I'm saying that that I didn't like the fact that that
- 9:33the powers that be just pick that as my holiday.
- 9:36Great. Well, what if I want Martin
- 9:39Luther King Junior Day because our company, our company did not
- 9:42and still does not today recognize Martin Luther King
- 9:45Junior Day as a holiday. Now this is what changed in our
- 9:48company is you're now allowed two personal days, so so of the
- 9:54holidays that you have. So then you get to pick.
- 9:57Yeah, yeah. So, so you do have the company,
- 10:00you know, and Good Friday's not one of them anymore, but it used
- 10:02to be. So if you want to take Martin
- 10:04Luther King Junior Day, you could do that.
- 10:05If you want to take Good Friday, those are your personal days and
- 10:08you can take that. Normally I use my personal day
- 10:10for my birthday and for my anniversary.
- 10:14So it just. Depends on where things fall,
- 10:16but but yes, I always it's not and it's not and it definitely
- 10:19not against religion. I just didn't like the fact that
- 10:21somebody picked the holiday. Wouldn't you, would you be upset
- 10:23if someone said, you know, hey, we're going to we're going to
- 10:26celebrate your, your, your holiday.
- 10:27We're going to tell you what the holiday you're going to take.
- 10:29Right. Because it's not not, it's not
- 10:32the same for like Ramadan or Hanukkah or any of that.
- 10:36Like those holidays aren't getting the equal treatment and
- 10:39they're all still religious holidays.
- 10:42But yeah, I don't think for the most part Easter outside of
- 10:45Logan being young or Kyron being young, those that's it.
- 10:48I mean, since those, since those days are long gone, it's like
- 10:51it's really weird. So it's weird to be around
- 10:53people who talk about Easter and the big Easter celebration and
- 10:56all these things they're doing on Easter because, yeah, not
- 10:59doing any of that. So you don't even get like ham.
- 11:06You don't even get like a special dinner.
- 11:08No, my gosh, you, you did not if my wife cooks well.
- 11:14Don't get yourself in. Trouble.
- 11:15No, it's no, it's, it's it's she doesn't she, I mean, not that
- 11:18she can't. She's a she's a great cook, but
- 11:22what is it so Christmas, Christmas dinner will have ham.
- 11:26She she like, she prefers ham over Turkey.
- 11:28She hates, she hates the fact that I want Turkey for
- 11:31Thanksgiving. Oh, I do both for Thanksgiving
- 11:34because. You do have the.
- 11:35Ham. You know the ham camp and then
- 11:37you have the Turkey camp. But for Easter I only do ham
- 11:40because it's just too much work. Right, right.
- 11:42For me. So for me, Thanksgiving, you
- 11:44know, being my favorite holiday because I think we need, I think
- 11:47it's the human race. We need to be grateful.
- 11:51And that's that's my favorite. So, yeah.
- 11:55So Easter, I don't know it just Easter kind of goes by the
- 11:57wayside. So I'm glad you had a good
- 11:59Easter. Something, well, it sounds like
- 12:00an amazing celebration. Yeah, it was a.
- 12:02Lot, but it's not. But it's not based in religion.
- 12:05You just have an Easter celebration.
- 12:06Got it. It's just about it's more about
- 12:10the all the family being together and having fun
- 12:13together. Now it's.
- 12:14Just like, no, OK, so I gotta, I gotta shore this up.
- 12:17So family being together, are you talking your immediate
- 12:20family or you're talking cousins and uncles and aunts and whoever
- 12:24comes over, Jim, Jim Bob, Ellenberg or whoever comes over?
- 12:28Yes, yeah. Everyone is invited.
- 12:30So yeah, like Jay's aunt and then her kids come over and wow,
- 12:35yeah, it's my brother, my mom, Jay's mom, Yeah.
- 12:39Awesome. I'm glad.
- 12:40I'm glad you had a good celebration.
- 12:41That's cool. Who?
- 12:43Who? Who?
- 12:44Who gives the 100 bucks? It's going to be you, right?
- 12:46Yes, yes, of. Course it is.
- 12:48Of course it is. Yeah, yeah.
- 12:51No one else, no one else is divvying up the 100.
- 12:53No one else is getting 100 bucks out of their wallet.
- 12:55I mean, there would be other people that would probably chip
- 12:58in, but we don't mind. It's fine.
- 13:01So the kids love it. Now that we've started doing it,
- 13:05everybody looks forward to it. I get.
- 13:07It and so now I can't be like, I don't, I mean, I'm sure someone
- 13:10else will pick it up at the same time.
- 13:11It's like it's just easier for everyone to come here so.
- 13:14I get it. I get it where Megan goes
- 13:17camping, one of the families there does a massive 4th of July
- 13:20celebration campground and anybody's invited.
- 13:22Technically, yeah. So, so I get, I understand that
- 13:26it's a tradition. It's a tradition.
- 13:28Yeah, yeah. And also, since we you touched
- 13:32on the radio station, I finally got some floating shelves and a
- 13:38bookcase. It's not done yet, but Jay put
- 13:40up my floating shelves so I could unpack all my radio stuff.
- 13:44Remember all the shit that I had in the corner?
- 13:46Yeah, in the studio. Memorabilia.
- 13:47Sure. Yes, my do.
- 13:51You have a Tim McGraw gold album.
- 13:52Tim McGraw gold the album, right?
- 13:54Yeah. But so I was unpacking my stuff
- 13:58to put it up on my shelves, and I realized that when I had
- 14:02packed up my stuff at the radio station, the Tim McGraw and
- 14:06Faith Hill Barbie that you gave me was not there.
- 14:09It is not in my stuff. So it wasn't there when I went
- 14:13back to pack up stuff. And I didn't realize it at the
- 14:17time because I was just packing up my shit.
- 14:19And so I don't know what happened to it.
- 14:22I think maybe while I was gone. I don't know if somebody took it
- 14:26or gave it away. I don't know if my then morning
- 14:31show partner at the time did something with it.
- 14:33Probably gave it to his daughters.
- 14:36He hated all the stuff in my corner.
- 14:38Oh yeah. So it wouldn't surprise me, but
- 14:41I was like, Oh my God, like my, I'm like, where is it?
- 14:45And then I was in my mind, I'm like, I don't think it was there
- 14:51when I packed up my stuff. So anyway, I thought that was
- 14:54horrible and I was upset about it, but.
- 14:56Oh man. What do I do now?
- 14:58I can't be like, hey, did you take my whatever, whatever, you
- 15:02know? Probably long forgotten about it
- 15:04too. Probably.
- 15:05I mean, he would deny it anyway, even if right, even if he did
- 15:09something. With so do you got yourself a
- 15:10nice little? Do you have yourself a nice
- 15:12little radio or building a nice little radio section?
- 15:15I mean, yes, I do have not necessarily like all radio
- 15:19stuff. Remember you got me the the
- 15:21Alexandra Skarsgard autograph picture.
- 15:24I like that in my like Eric Northman, Funko Pop, sure, I'm
- 15:29kind of being picky about what I put up there.
- 15:31So it's not great. Otherwise it would be so
- 15:32cluttered there wouldn't be room for anything.
- 15:34But yeah, so. Yeah, I was so so my man cave,
- 15:38I've got the Mr. Mr. ticket stub.
- 15:41I've got the the Batman neon thing that you got me years ago.
- 15:46Oh, yeah. I still have my action figure
- 15:49that's that's roaming around that looks like that looks like
- 15:52me. Bodhi did get his arm, so I'm
- 15:54not happy about that. So he's injured.
- 15:58They got him. Bodie got him.
- 15:59So I was not, I was it Bodie or Barkley?
- 16:01No. Maybe at least.
- 16:02At least just an arm and not your face or.
- 16:04Something right? No, My face is still good.
- 16:06I'm, you know, you know, I don't, I don't.
- 16:07I My action figure has seen better days.
- 16:10Bodie. No.
- 16:11Oh, Bodie got my action figure. And then there was this monkey
- 16:16that my mom made for me. And it's one-of-a-kind.
- 16:20And sadly, Barkley got it. So I'm I if I can ever run into
- 16:24a seamstress, I wanted to try to repair the monkey so but his
- 16:28face has been like, I do have a the lot.
- 16:31The good news, I have a photo of the monkey and they might be
- 16:33able to replicate the monkey. I've still got the body, it's
- 16:36just missing a lot of stuff. So is it kind of like the sock
- 16:39monkey? Yeah, it's a sock monkey.
- 16:41That we all had very little, yeah.
- 16:44Well, it was interesting. So my mother, my real mom, my
- 16:47real mom, Lorinda wasn't an amazing seamstress.
- 16:52Now, she didn't do it very often.
- 16:53So when we were kids, she'd make us pillows and blankets and all
- 16:57these different things that were absolutely amazing.
- 16:59And so when my brother Steven got married about 10-15 years
- 17:01ago, probably been 15 years ago, my mother presented me with this
- 17:07sock monkey and, and it made everybody else in the family
- 17:11very upset because my mom does not do these things or she had
- 17:17not done them in many years. And so, and then after the sock
- 17:21monkey, she never made, I don't know if it was arthritis, I
- 17:23don't know what it was, but my mom never, never made another,
- 17:27another thing. And so my brothers and sisters,
- 17:30my nephews, my nieces, they, it wasn't even about my brothers
- 17:33and sisters, but they were upset that their nephews and nieces
- 17:36didn't get things made by my mom.
- 17:39But I do have this monkey that I need to repair just because it,
- 17:41you know, Yeah, my my mom made it for me.
- 17:44So and my mom, my mom never lied.
- 17:46She said I was her favorite. I was good.
- 17:48I was just going to say you obviously were the favorite, so.
- 17:51I was her well. I was the executor of her will.
- 17:53Right. So, so my sister, my sister's
- 17:55older, but yeah, I mean, and I don't think it was, I don't
- 17:58think in I don't know, I don't know.
- 18:01I mean, I don't think that it was any in particular reason.
- 18:04I don't know why necessarily I was her favorite, but she felt I
- 18:07was the most responsible, right. And so I think that's why So
- 18:11this but anyway, or, and some people do say I'm I was always
- 18:13your favorite. I don't, you know that that is
- 18:15that's kind of been a point of contention with my siblings.
- 18:19Yeah, that's crazy. That mom, that mom like that mom
- 18:22liked me best. But I don't, I mean, she didn't
- 18:25necessarily. I think she said it.
- 18:26I think she did. She said it.
- 18:30That makes it worse, I know. Like.
- 18:32I think she said it jokingly, but.
- 18:33Right, but this, but you as the child don't take it as a joke.
- 18:38Like, you know, like there's some real meaning.
- 18:41They were adults when she said I was.
- 18:43Her friend, but yeah. She even then they can't use
- 18:45their childhood trauma that they already has, you know?
- 18:49They had enough trauma. I don't think you need to add to
- 18:53to that with who's the favorite, but yeah.
- 18:55I don't know. I don't know but.
- 18:56Jay and his yeah, Jay and his sister always fight over who's
- 19:01the favorite with his mom, and obviously he is.
- 19:05And then as the kids got older, when they stopped believing in
- 19:08Santa, then I would say like to try and get them to do stuff.
- 19:14Well, you know, like you'll be my favorite if you which I
- 19:18probably shouldn't have done that looking back now.
- 19:20But right. I mean it.
- 19:22Got hey, there's no, there's no perfect parenting plan.
- 19:25There's no perfect parenting. Plan it got them to do things
- 19:27and so that is the joke now obviously Benjamin is the
- 19:31favorite is what they all say and then in my.
- 19:34It's got to, it's got to be hard having four kids because, OK,
- 19:38I'm not saying that do OK that. I mean, this is probably good
- 19:41for another podcast down the road.
- 19:43OK. But, but do parents really have
- 19:45their favorite? I do believe they do.
- 19:47They may not. They may not say it.
- 19:49Yeah, they may not say it, But I think every parent has a
- 19:52favorite. Yes, and in different and each
- 19:54child is different in different ways your favorite like
- 19:58depending on what it is because some some kids might have your
- 20:02same sense of humor and so that might be the connection that you
- 20:06have and you can joke back and forth and.
- 20:09And other kids might be like you are the responsible one and
- 20:13other it just depends on the child and it could be they could
- 20:18be a favorite on whatever it is that you have that connection
- 20:22with them. I.
- 20:23Think it's, I think it's fascinating only by the fact
- 20:25that so I have Kyron, my stepson, that I have Logan, my
- 20:28son, and it's like, and I don't I so Logan when I met Megan, I
- 20:33think Logan was what, 1314 maybe probably something like that.
- 20:37Chiron was 5. So there's nine years difference
- 20:39between Chiron and Logan and there's nine years difference
- 20:42between Megan and I. But when it comes to our boys, I
- 20:45mean, it's not that. I mean, it's like, I think it's
- 20:48hard to explain. I think it's interesting that
- 20:51people who say that they, that so you have a non biological
- 20:57child and then you have a biological child.
- 21:01I, I cannot, I, I have to assume you have to favor the biological
- 21:05child to some extent. So, so Logan's my son.
- 21:08So Logan's my son, you know, before Kyron came around.
- 21:11It doesn't mean I don't love Kyron.
- 21:13It's not that I don't love Kyron, but Logan's my son and I
- 21:16also think the same way about Megan, Megan, Megan, Kyron is
- 21:20Megan's son, right? So it's not that we treated the
- 21:24boys any differently, but they are treated differently, yes,
- 21:28because my relationship with Kyron is different than my
- 21:30relationship with Logan. They're not the same and Megan's
- 21:33relationship with Logan is different than my relationship.
- 21:35Yes. So so it's like I don't and I
- 21:38don't call that favorites, but but is it because, but is it
- 21:40because we're it was mixed later?
- 21:43Not, you know, they didn't start off at the same time like they
- 21:45both work the same age. That's probably part of it and
- 21:49then part of it, like you said, it is because of that's just how
- 21:54you guys have felt or about your own child compared to the others
- 21:59child. Because I know people that, but
- 22:03a lot of times this the other the parent is not involved in
- 22:07the child's life. And so then that the dad or
- 22:10stepdad becomes the dad in place of the missing real dad.
- 22:15And so a lot of times they take then they feel like that is
- 22:20really their child. So I think it just depends on
- 22:22you as the step parent in the relationship and how you feel
- 22:28about the child. Yeah, it was hard to, yeah, it
- 22:31was hard to navigate because for me, I, I, I took it from the
- 22:34point of view that that Kyron has a dad.
- 22:36He does. His dad's name is Jeff.
- 22:37He has a dad. And so for the most part, 99%.
- 22:41So you are not trying to be Kyron's real dad?
- 22:44You're not trying to replace him, no.
- 22:46I think Megan, I think there's times where Megan's been upset
- 22:49or now that he's an adult now it doesn't matter.
- 22:51But but when he was a teenager and she was struggling through
- 22:53the teens and he was, you know, slamming the door and, you know,
- 22:57doing things that teenagers do, she, I think there was points
- 23:00where she really wanted me to step in and I I would try, but I
- 23:04really didn't have that authority.
- 23:05I. Was going to say it wouldn't be
- 23:07your place necessarily. Yeah, I mean, she, I mean, yeah,
- 23:12I mean well. And our relationship's
- 23:13different, you know what I'm saying?
- 23:14So when I met Kyra when he was five years old, he goes.
- 23:17He goes, what do you want me to call you?
- 23:19I said, well, you can call him. You can call me Rick, or you can
- 23:22call me Dad. And he decided, well, guess
- 23:25what? He decided to call me.
- 23:26I'm Rick. I'm Rick now, so.
- 23:29That's the definition of your relationship with him then.
- 23:32I think so. It's one of and, but, but I
- 23:34never, but I never tried to, never tried to take that spot,
- 23:39or at least I I just never felt it was my mission.
- 23:41Now, on the flip side of Logan, that's a very bad situation over
- 23:47there because his stepfather Marty tried, you know, and, and
- 23:53the things that that Marty said about me, like your dad's a
- 23:56piece of shit, he's late. I mean, all these things.
- 23:59And my son and my son rebelled against that.
- 24:03And so I remember, I remember many years ago and in
- 24:06Bakersfield or I was in, wherever I was at, I got a call
- 24:09from Pokey and she was like, Hey, you need to talk to your
- 24:11son. And I said, well, what's going
- 24:13on? And he goes, he goes, Logan spit
- 24:15in Marty's face. And and so, me being the dad, of
- 24:19course I giggled. That's I mean.
- 24:23Like, well, that's what. I do.
- 24:25Yeah, exactly right. Right, Exactly, exactly.
- 24:29And so for me, any fear that he was going to take my spot right
- 24:34was like once I once I heard well, Logan spit in his face.
- 24:37I'm like, well, there, that's so they had a really horrific
- 24:39release. They did.
- 24:40They just had a horrific relationship, but it was because
- 24:43Marty was very shades of the Wallaces, like he was going to
- 24:47he was going to lead by fear, by physical abuse, you know what
- 24:51I'm saying? I mean, and he did and he did.
- 24:53And Logan to this day has a, you know, he's 31, going to be 32,
- 24:56has a just just, you know, it's not a good relationship.
- 24:58It never has been because he already took the Wallace's
- 25:03route. Like, well, I, your parents and
- 25:05almost, you know, a domineering, you know, you'll kneel, you know
- 25:09what I'm saying, You'll do. What I say?
- 25:11Right, and and so and that's definitely not my, that wasn't
- 25:14my parenting style for sure. And so we still have a little
- 25:17bit of that in the relationship because Pokey, even though my
- 25:21son's 3132, you know, pokey still is, can be resentful of
- 25:25that relationship because she's like, go talk to your father.
- 25:28He walks on water to you anyway, you know, and Logan has just
- 25:32said that more so when we've had that conversation, he says, I
- 25:35just treated him like a a person.
- 25:38Logan and Logan went through a time Logan went through a a
- 25:41teenage rebellious. We had some we had some, you
- 25:44know, throw down stuff that happened when he was a teenager,
- 25:47but but nowhere near the level of what is mom and Marty in that
- 25:52particular situation. So I, I, I, I just think it's I,
- 25:56I think it's absolutely fascinating in terms of the
- 25:58dynamics. And then you say what, you know,
- 26:00can do parents have favorites? I I will, you know, I do believe
- 26:04they have. I mean, you know, I mean, but
- 26:06like you said, I like what you said.
- 26:08I mean each kid probably for for other reasons, Yeah.
- 26:11Yeah, you know, and now I joke that Haley is my favorite.
- 26:13Because yes, there you go. That gets you off the hook.
- 26:16Yeah. That gets you off the hook, you
- 26:18know, But I always thought if I had if I had multiple of my own
- 26:22bloodline, I I'm sure there would have been different ways.
- 26:26I asked, I asked Megan recently. I said we maybe we should have a
- 26:29kid together and she's like, no. She was like shut you down.
- 26:36She hates. The fact she hates that idea.
- 26:38So I met I met Megan when she was 28, so.
- 26:41She could have had more kids. She was, she was 2829.
- 26:44She was young enough, right? And she says, and the reason she
- 26:48goes, the reason why she wanted to marry me or or or or is with
- 26:52me is because I did I well, I was fixed.
- 26:55You know I was. I mean, you could have had it
- 26:57reversed, so it's not like 10. Grand or some crazy number.
- 27:01I don't want this. I didn't want something that
- 27:03bad. You know you don't.
- 27:04Want to spend that kind of money?
- 27:06No, not for not now. Well now, now realizing I'm not
- 27:10going to have grandbabies. Now you're second guessing that.
- 27:13Now I'm now I'm like son of I should have had, I should have
- 27:18had a girl Logan, because because I, I feel betrayed.
- 27:21I feel totally like, and it's not I get it.
- 27:23I get it. It's not your kids job to have
- 27:25grandkids for you. I get it, you know, and, and
- 27:29maybe that's just being selfish on my part.
- 27:31And I'll be the first to say it's, it's selfish.
- 27:34I think part of it is it's selfish and it's like, it's like
- 27:39the dream that we have for our children, that kind of thing.
- 27:42Like we dream of seeing them with their kids.
- 27:45And so it's us that has to get over that because they were,
- 27:48they're, they're good with whatever it is they've decided
- 27:51so. I know it's, it's, but yeah.
- 27:53And, and, you know, it's one of the, yeah, it's I, I think for
- 27:56me, I think the reason is because of my own childhood,
- 28:01right? You know, it, there was a lot, a
- 28:03lot of parts of that was unsatisfactory.
- 28:05And so, so, so the reason why I have the, or at least I would
- 28:08like to think the reason why I have the bond with Logan is
- 28:10because my dad and I, my real dad and I didn't have, I mean,
- 28:14not to say we didn't have a bond, but, but there I didn't
- 28:17have that relationship with my father, my real father, you
- 28:20know. And so, so to me, I yearned for
- 28:23that with Logan, to have this great relationship with Logan.
- 28:26And then and then for me, it's like, oh, Logan's going to have
- 28:29a son and that and that relationship continued because
- 28:32I'm going to be awake. I'd be awake for.
- 28:34What's that? He could have a daughter if he
- 28:36was going to have kids. I know, but a but a grand, a
- 28:39grandbaby or whatever, I I felt that I felt like and you already
- 28:42know I'd be a great grandfather. Oh yeah, you would.
- 28:45Yeah, totally. Why would you not?
- 28:47Why would you not want me as your grandma?
- 28:48Grandpa, we're. Going to go to Comic Con, yeah?
- 28:50Yeah, we're going to do everything.
- 28:52What? You we're going, we're going to
- 28:53Disney World. What are you talking about now,
- 28:55you know. Oh, you're not invited, though.
- 28:57I'm kidding. But so.
- 28:59Yeah. So it's one of those those those
- 29:01things I think we see ourselves. We do.
- 29:04You cannot. You say you don't see yourself
- 29:06and your kids. Yeah.
- 29:08And you know you want the best one.
- 29:10Yes. And like you said, especially
- 29:12for us, those of us that grow up in not great homes, we, we want
- 29:18to, we want, we a, we want to parent them different.
- 29:22Like we want to be completely opposite of how we were raised.
- 29:25And it's almost like we try to relive our childhood through
- 29:30them in a better way. So it's a.
- 29:34Couple of. Things a couple of different
- 29:36things are going are happening for us when we are parenting.
- 29:40And we're not just talking like materialistic things.
- 29:42I'm just talking just in general.
- 29:44So to me, it was always like, it was like for me, it's like, I
- 29:49think the the way you break abuse in and in families is you
- 29:54break the cycle, you break the chain, Someone, someone
- 29:57branches. Off.
- 29:58Someone branches off the family tree that isn't an alcoholic,
- 30:02isn't a drug user, isn't a a pedophile.
- 30:04I mean the list goes on and on of what problems people have in
- 30:07their families and and someone's got a break break away from
- 30:10that. So in my family wholeheartedly,
- 30:13I'm that I am that person. I am, you know, it's like the,
- 30:16the choices I've made is not because I'm, I think I'm better
- 30:20than anybody else. The choices I made were, was
- 30:22self. I I call it self preservation.
- 30:24Yes. You know, I had to decide not to
- 30:27be a drinker. I had to decide not to be a
- 30:28partier, you know, and put myself in situations where who
- 30:32knows what, you know, criminal situations going to happen.
- 30:36So and then I wanted to reflect that, you know, on Logan, I
- 30:41wanted to Logan, I wanted Logan to see, hey, you can live a life
- 30:45without any of these things and have and have a great, fantastic
- 30:48life. You don't need alcohol, you
- 30:50don't need drugs, you don't need these things.
- 30:53And it didn't go my way. So anyway, but he's still, he's
- 30:56a great kid. He's a good kid.
- 30:57He's a he's a great kid. You know, I'm very proud of him.
- 30:59I'm proud, I'm proud of his brain and there and there's a
- 31:02lot of traits. I still do.
- 31:03There's a lot of traits of me in Logan, but there's also a lot of
- 31:07traits of his mother that's. That's usually how it works.
- 31:11Yeah, he's a combination of both of us.
- 31:13So. So, yeah.
- 31:14So it's cool that you had a great Easter celebration.
- 31:17I, you know, love that we didn't do Jack squat, basically.
- 31:20Yeah, I mean, I made sure that I broke the circle by not being a
- 31:25yeller, you know, certain things that I grew up with that I made
- 31:28sure I, I did not do as a parent.
- 31:32And my kids were raised completely different.
- 31:34I mean, I'm almost like the black sheep of the family
- 31:37because I'm just not like any of my family at all in anything.
- 31:42And my brother is still the yeller.
- 31:45And do you think that the kids listen when you're screaming and
- 31:48yelling at them or they and. And and they pass it on.
- 31:51Yes, kids. Pass it on, yeah?
- 31:53You don't need to yell at them to get them to listen.
- 31:59But and like, you were talking about, you know, Marty saying
- 32:03shit about you. I had my real mom saying shit
- 32:07about my real dad. That was horrible stuff.
- 32:11And so that is always difficult as the child when your real
- 32:15parents are saying stuff about each other and you're stuck in
- 32:18the middle. Yeah.
- 32:19Well, and Logan was really resentful.
- 32:21I mean, again, it's, I mean, hey, it's it's water over the
- 32:24bridge and he's 30 some years old.
- 32:25But, but when we did, when we did child support for Logan, it
- 32:32was I, I said pokey, I go pokey, what do you want?
- 32:35And so we did that. We did the divorce agreement and
- 32:38there was no, there was no CPS, no department of whatever,
- 32:42nobody. It was like, how much do you
- 32:44want a month? What do you expect me to do?
- 32:47And I did, and I did exactly what was what she expected or
- 32:51what she what she wanted. And so my so Logan was very
- 32:55resentful because Marty would say stuff about me and he'd go,
- 32:58but my, but he goes. My dad doesn't miss a payment.
- 33:00My dad sees me religiously every two weeks.
- 33:03My dad pays for all my medical. My dad pays for all, all the
- 33:06travel. My dad pays for anything and
- 33:08everything I need. Right.
- 33:09You know, beyond, beyond. Yeah, right.
- 33:12Right. And and so to have another
- 33:14person turn around and say your dad's a piece of shit, it's like
- 33:16that. Like that's just uncalled for.
- 33:19Yeah. Uncalled for.
- 33:20And so and, and then Logan, it was interesting.
- 33:23And Logan and I've had this conversation about, about the
- 33:26Child Support money. Oh, I remember one time I was in
- 33:28Bakersfield and Pokey called me and said, Hey, I want more child
- 33:32support. And I said, well, great, go get,
- 33:34you know, go to go to the court. No, go to the court, pitch in
- 33:37the court and, and get more child support.
- 33:40Whatever the court says that I have to pay, I'll pay, you know,
- 33:44and, and it's so funny when I talk to other people, what Logan
- 33:48got or what his mother got was three to four times I was.
- 33:51Going to say probably a lot more than the standard.
- 33:55Like a bare minimum. Pokey never went back to the
- 33:58court because she knew the deal she had.
- 34:01Because we went through that with Kyron.
- 34:02We went through that with Kyron, you know.
- 34:04So with Kyron, I paid his insurance.
- 34:06His dad didn't pay. His dad wouldn't pay it, you
- 34:09mean? So there are things that that I
- 34:11contributed financially, right? That so these are things Marty
- 34:15never had like, yeah, you know. And so Logan was really
- 34:19resentful because they took the money and they bought a camper,
- 34:22They bought a boat. No, they did they, you and and
- 34:25they, they use that they and he, he really resented that.
- 34:28Of course. You know, and, and he says and
- 34:31he goes, they did they, you know, and, and, and I and I had
- 34:35to defend that that system, that system.
- 34:38I had to defend that system and say, Hey, Logan, you're I.
- 34:42By law I have to give your mother this money and she
- 34:44decide. What they she?
- 34:47Dictates what that money goes for, I said.
- 34:50I said I can't. I can't turn around and go,
- 34:52well, better be going for shoes or better be going for pants or
- 34:55haircuts or whatever. You don't dictate that.
- 34:59And so anyway, it was, it was like, like I said, so.
- 35:02So I'm glad you had a great Easter celebration.
- 35:04And I love the fact that it's just therapy every day.
- 35:07It's just therapy. I know, I know, right?
- 35:10I mean my dad didn't pay child support for like 2 years so
- 35:14yeah. I never missed a pay.
- 35:16I never missed a payment, I never missed a payment.
- 35:18And I mean, it was interesting even towards the end.
- 35:20So when Logan turned 18, Logan turns 18, before he graduated,
- 35:23Pokey was on the phone. Are you going to continue to pay
- 35:26money until he graduates? And guess what I said?
- 35:29Of course. Yes.
- 35:31There are some dads that will continue paying even when the
- 35:34child's in college, right? You know so.
- 35:37Yeah. So, yeah.
- 35:39So it's so it's that way for me. It was never about the money.
- 35:41It's about it's about Logan in those situations.
- 35:44Now, Logan, Logan did come live with us for a year in Richland
- 35:47his junior year. And guess what I didn't do?
- 35:50Pay child support. I didn't pay child support,
- 35:52right? Because it's because Logan's
- 35:54with us. So but but I mean, but that was
- 35:57the only but outside of that and it and it was and, and a payment
- 36:00was never missed. It was like, babe, it was
- 36:02always, it was always like, I mean, literally the check was in
- 36:04the mail on that. And I I think that's being a
- 36:07good man, right? Like that's not even like, like
- 36:10that's if I had that's not even a question.
- 36:13Logan, your children. I couldn't imagine anybody not
- 36:16taking care of their kids. Right, which my dad tried really
- 36:19hard to evade paying child support.
- 36:21He he owned a bar. He put that in his girlfriend's
- 36:24name, the house, whatever. But karma came around and bit
- 36:28him in the ass because when he was working in Alaska, she got a
- 36:32new boyfriend and told him, hey, all your stuff's in your car and
- 36:36she got the business, she got the house, she got everything.
- 36:40But he needed to learn that lesson to then come back to my
- 36:43brother and I and be like, I was so wrong and so sorry and he
- 36:49basically spent the rest of our adult lives trying to make up
- 36:52for. That that's good.
- 36:53Well, I'm glad. No, that I like that.
- 36:54Actually, I actually, I like that story because because you,
- 36:59you, you pay the Child Support because it's the right thing to
- 37:02do. You take care of your kids
- 37:03because it's the right thing to do.
- 37:04So it's like and so and and to not do those things, you know,
- 37:09no matter how mad you are at the ex-spouse or whatever.
- 37:13Well, but that was it. It was always like between him
- 37:16and my mom, it was always the two of them, but we always were
- 37:21the ones that suffered or got the brunt of it in the end, so.
- 37:25Yeah, I, you know, again, I'd like to think, you know, for the
- 37:27most part, not that we were perfect, but pokey and I get OK.
- 37:30Yeah. In that in that situation, there
- 37:33was there was some rough times, but but the rough times were
- 37:36always because of Marty, you know, and.
- 37:39Does Marty have kids? No, no.
- 37:41Kids. He has no kids.
- 37:42No kids. And it was interesting because I
- 37:44took Logan out to dinner a couple months back and we were
- 37:47talking about he was actually Logan hurt my feelings.
- 37:50But I said I it said to him, I said, hey, your mom and I, if it
- 37:53wasn't for Marty, we probably could be friends.
- 37:55And he goes, why would my mom want to be your friend?
- 37:57And I said, what do you mean? What do you mean He goes, He
- 38:00goes. If anything, you're an
- 38:01acquaintance to my mom. Would that hurt your feelings a
- 38:03little bit? Probably, yeah.
- 38:05I'm like, wait a minute, it's like #1 I'm like, you don't know
- 38:08the, OK, you can be upset at me about at things, but you don't
- 38:11know the relationship between your mom and I.
- 38:13Right. Not to say that we want to be
- 38:14friends. We don't want to be.
- 38:15And he goes. He goes.
- 38:16My mom doesn't even think about you.
- 38:17Don't even. My mom, it's like my mom.
- 38:21Like my mom doesn't even think about you.
- 38:23She could careless. I'm like, maybe that's the,
- 38:26maybe that's the truth. Maybe that's the, the, you know,
- 38:29but, but it's like we did have 14 years together, right?
- 38:33So and, and up until up until the the nuclear bomb it was, it
- 38:38was pretty good so. But I do have to say kudos to
- 38:41Logan for sticking up for his mom.
- 38:44Like I would want my children to stick up for me regardless of
- 38:47who who it was that they, you know, so.
- 38:51Well, he just said that his mother would not even consider
- 38:53me a friend or you know, basically.
- 38:56So I don't know. I don't know if that stick it up
- 38:58for me but not. Upset you?
- 39:00It just hurt my feelings because I already feel bad enough about
- 39:03the we've talked about that I'm going to.
- 39:06I, I, I've already made a promise to myself on my
- 39:09deathbed, I'll still be asking to forgiveness a lot like your
- 39:12dad did for you guys. It's like I made I made a wrong
- 39:16turn in Albuquerque and I paid for it.
- 39:19Right. You know, I paid for it and even
- 39:21though everybody and even though he's he goes, my mom doesn't
- 39:24even think about you. She could give a shit about you.
- 39:26It's still for me. I, I feel like I have to carry
- 39:31that no matter what number 1, so I don't do shit like that again.
- 39:36You, you need that. You need that reminder.
- 39:38Constant reminder. I don't know about you.
- 39:41Constant guilt reminder. I do because my personality is
- 39:45like, you know me. I'll jump without AY, I'll jump
- 39:47without a net. You will, yeah.
- 39:49Every time. So my personality, I've got to
- 39:52be kept in check. Yeah, with with that guilt in
- 39:56terms of and and and of what? What you You know what you.
- 40:02Could lose right learn my lesson like like even pokey called me
- 40:06years later and it said I love what she said she goes you.
- 40:09Learned your lesson the hard way too.
- 40:11She goes, she goes, she goes. You'll never do that again.
- 40:13That's what she said. She can say learn, she can say
- 40:15lesson. She didn't.
- 40:16At least she. Didn't say like I told you so.
- 40:18No, you got what you deserved. Or she was a great no, no, no,
- 40:22no, I, I will that I I've always said nice things about, you
- 40:26know, I've always said nice. Oh yeah.
- 40:28And she I mean, that was very like, I don't know if you want
- 40:32to call it like political. I mean, that was very like
- 40:34neutral of her to say that to you instead of being like told
- 40:38you. So you deserve that because she
- 40:39could have been like totally bitter about everything that.
- 40:43Happened she she she no, no, she called me gosh she called me
- 40:47years ago and says, hey, she goes I and out of the blue and
- 40:50just says, hey, I know I know you're still kicking yourself
- 40:53you know she goes, you need to forgive yourself.
- 40:55And I said, well, I can't I never will be able to forgive
- 40:57myself. She goes well, I am letting you
- 40:58know that I I'm telling you that you should forgive yourself and
- 41:02and and I'm good and everybody, everything's good and and don't
- 41:06don't then maybe that's what Logan means by she don't think
- 41:09about you know what I'm saying? I get it.
- 41:10She's she's happening. You're just an acquaintance.
- 41:13Well, yeah, you know, so I I get that, but but it's for me, I
- 41:17need to carry. I feel like I, and maybe that's
- 41:19how your dad feel. You need to carry that.
- 41:21So you don't I. Think he did.
- 41:22I think he, I mean, he's passed away.
- 41:26It'll be almost 10 years coming up in, in 2027.
- 41:29But yeah, I think he really carried that guilt with him for
- 41:33the rest of his life. And he even with my kids, with
- 41:38the boys, he would try and take them and do things and really be
- 41:42present in their life and not just buying them things or any
- 41:47of that, like actually like taking them fishing and that
- 41:51kind of stuff, like really spending time with them.
- 41:53That was the hardest part of writing my book about Missus
- 41:56Wallace because now I feel like an I feel like an asshole by the
- 41:59fact that she had grandkids like Missus Wallace had grandkids.
- 42:03So Wanda is Karen's daughter and so so Wanda has multiple kids
- 42:08and then they have grandkids. So, so these are grandkids and
- 42:12great grandkids. And I remember Wanda reaching
- 42:14out, saying, Hey, read your book, blah, blah, blah.
- 42:16It's it's all true. She goes.
- 42:19But when my children read the book, they were very upset
- 42:23because that's not the grandmother they knew.
- 42:26I mean lucky for them that she was not the same with them.
- 42:31Right, right. And so they felt real and I
- 42:33felt, and I felt horrible. Oh my God, because I didn't
- 42:36realize the repercussion of writing the book about this was
- 42:41my version or this is how I saw it.
- 42:46Great, but it but it was real because, like you just said, she
- 42:50confirmed that that was really. Yes, I I went back.
- 42:53What? Happened.
- 42:54After. So after, even before I wrote
- 42:56the book, I did talk to my siblings and I said, you know,
- 43:00I'm writing this book, blah, blah.
- 43:02Did this stuff happen? Am I, you know, am I distorted?
- 43:05Maybe, maybe I'm the asshole. You mean you never look, you
- 43:09never look around at yourself and go, hey, well, maybe I'm the
- 43:11asshole? Great.
- 43:12And when you're young, like, you don't know.
- 43:14So, right, So and then and then when they all confirm no, these,
- 43:17no, this, this is the reality. She was, really.
- 43:21Like this? But but when, but when the her
- 43:24grandkids read this book, well, that's not grandma.
- 43:27That's not what we remember of grandma and and Wanda had to
- 43:31tell him, you know, this, this stuff did happen, you know, and
- 43:36and luckily grandma was was, you know, and it's funny.
- 43:39It's so funny. Speaking of that situation is,
- 43:42you know how much I put my my foster dad on his pedestal.
- 43:46Yeah. And he was amazing, amazing
- 43:48foster dad for me. Again, he was in his late 70s,
- 43:51you know, when I was their foster kid.
- 43:53But and all their kids are successful.
- 43:55They're all wonderful. They're the kids are successful,
- 43:57but they they've often joke how he was a mean old bastard to
- 44:02them. Right.
- 44:03You know, and then and when I came along, it was like, oh,
- 44:06it's just, you know. He had softened up.
- 44:08Well, yeah, so they so they said.
- 44:10So for my foster, even for my foster dad, I got the, you know,
- 44:14I got the, I got the warm cuddlies and the real kids.
- 44:18By that point, he was just tired.
- 44:19Yeah, the real, the real kid says, oh, no, you know, he was a
- 44:23mean old cuss. And I'm like, no way.
- 44:24But it's funny, you know, not. And they and they adored him, of
- 44:27course, but it's just still, you know, still you know, So it's,
- 44:31it's amazing. And what, like you said,
- 44:32people's perceptions of? Those right and like you talk
- 44:34about the the Karen Wallace's grandkids.
- 44:38Like when my kids were growing up, I didn't say I didn't tell
- 44:42them anything about my mom that about like how I grew up.
- 44:47Like I let them just experience her as a grandma, which she was
- 44:51a better grandma than a mom. Like grandma.
- 44:53She wasn't perfect, but now that they are adults they are seeing
- 44:58the real her. But I.
- 45:00Have when you give me a Trump book.
- 45:03No, it's a Doctor Phil. Book.
- 45:05Oh, Doctor Phil Book. I'm sorry, but yes, it might as
- 45:09well. It might as well be a Trump
- 45:10book. I mean, yeah, pretty much.
- 45:12So I did not, you know, say anything bad about her.
- 45:15I didn't nothing to them as they were growing up and as adults
- 45:19they have seen her. And so I've kind of told them
- 45:23bits and pieces about how I grew up.
- 45:26And so they can kind of see how that all aligns.
- 45:29And now, now it makes sense to them.
- 45:32Some stuff. So yeah.
- 45:33Well, because it's interesting. As an adult, you're much more
- 45:37aware, yes, then you were as a kid.
- 45:39So then, yeah. And then, then you see it, like
- 45:41you said, in real. You see it in real time.
- 45:44Right, right. But I didn't want to, I didn't
- 45:47want to taint their relationship with her when they were growing
- 45:50up because like you hope that they will be different as
- 45:54grandparents. So just like Karen Wallace was
- 45:57with her grandkids, thankfully she was different than what you
- 46:01knew or even her own kids knew. And so that's what that's all we
- 46:04can hope for is that they will do better and treat our
- 46:07grandkids better. Yeah, well, well, the the nice
- 46:10thing about your amazing kids, you have 4 amazing kids because
- 46:15of the great you know, you and Jay are great parents.
- 46:18You know, doesn't mean they're perfect, but but but but you're
- 46:23appreciative that you did pretty good.
- 46:25Yes. For the, you know, and I look at
- 46:28Kyron, I look at Kyron and I look at Logan and I, I did, you
- 46:31know, the, you know, I guess as a parent you want really what's
- 46:34best for them, right? So.
- 46:36So it's more, it's more your own selfishness, I guess.
- 46:38Right. We have, like I said, we have
- 46:40these hopes and dreams for them. You're going to be president.
- 46:43You didn't, you didn't. And it's our own image or view
- 46:47or projection, whatever you want to call it, that we have for
- 46:50them is not necessarily what they have for themselves.
- 46:53So. Well, you'd like to think it's
- 46:55out of love. I mean, it is out of selfishness
- 46:57to some extent. The great, the greatest joy I'm
- 47:00enjoying right now in my life is the fact that our old buddy
- 47:03Micah Cephas has got a little girl, Kennedy.
- 47:07And I love that Kennedy is putting him through the, the,
- 47:10you know what I'm saying? And we, I just talked to him a
- 47:13couple weeks ago and he had said like, like he can't be selfish.
- 47:17Well. Good.
- 47:18I'm glad that he's like. Well, he can't be Well, number
- 47:22one, number one, you're going to be shocked, but.
- 47:23Sometimes parents still, sometimes they still don't.
- 47:26Worry, I'm sure he's got his. I'm sure he's got some of that
- 47:28still in there, but, well, yeah. Number one.
- 47:31He's in his 40s. Which which is crazy, I know.
- 47:34This is like damn. You know, so, and then he went
- 47:37and then I, last time I talked to him, Kennedy was at soccer
- 47:40practice. You know, so it's just, it's
- 47:43just funny that what comes around goes around and when you
- 47:48become a parent, it just totally, it just totally changes
- 47:50you. Yeah, at least, hopefully for
- 47:53the best. All right, we got 10 minutes
- 47:54left. I know.
- 47:55I'm like, what the hell? OK, yeah.
- 47:57Speaking of, what the hell? What the 25th Amendment?
- 47:59Could somebody please could somebody please take the
- 48:03president's phone. I don't know what the hell he
- 48:05true socially tweeting what I don't I don't know somebody
- 48:10please take it away from him like what in the world and I'm a
- 48:14little bit glad that finally like Tucker Carlson some of
- 48:18those other right wing Republic. I don't want to come Taylor
- 48:21whatever yes are like saying the exact same thing like someone
- 48:25needs to like call for the 25th amendment like I I'm happy it's
- 48:30finally happening. It's taken away a long time.
- 48:32It should have happened a long time ago, but like we are
- 48:35crossing into territory that is like yeah, he says all kinds of
- 48:40crazy fucking shit, but this is beyond like this could start
- 48:45World War three. Basically.
- 48:47It like realsies like this isn't just pretend or I'm just going
- 48:52to say shit off. Facebook or Instant and all
- 48:55that. I know you're on Blue Sky.
- 48:56I'm trying. Yes, I am.
- 48:58The boot lickers are out there loud and proud.
- 49:01Which is crazy to me. It's just.
- 49:03Because that. Was his thing to campaign on is
- 49:07we're not going to start any wars like Kamala would have got
- 49:11us into war with. Iran, Maggie is all in.
- 49:15It doesn't matter what he says. Gas prices are crazy and they
- 49:20will, I guarantee to you they are going to get worse.
- 49:24Like this is just the beginning for us.
- 49:27And I don't know, people don't realize that can't see it, don't
- 49:31want to see it. I don't know.
- 49:32But it's it doesn't make any sense to me.
- 49:36So, so we were talking about, and I posted on my Facebook
- 49:39Artemis 2 just just sent sent back some amazing photos of
- 49:43Earth and from the moon. And I and I wrote on my Facebook
- 49:47I had I had talked about that I wish everybody could see the
- 49:50world the way that the astronauts right now are seeing
- 49:53the world because you realize what a pretty petty race we are,
- 49:58right? And.
- 49:59How tiny you are compared to the big picture.
- 50:02But if you saw that, you probably would want to safeguard
- 50:06animal, safeguard the planet, safeguard people knowing that
- 50:10how fragile life really is. Because when you move away from
- 50:12Earth and you're looking at Earth like they are looking at
- 50:14Earth, you realize #1 how unique or special Earth is.
- 50:19And yet, and yet down here, all, all anybody wants to do is
- 50:24destroy it in any form possible. So, so, and to have a sitting
- 50:28president that's like, I, I don't give a shit.
- 50:31I'll take the oil. It's like and then just just
- 50:34calling for the annihilation. Of an entire country, an entire
- 50:39civilization. Yes, yes.
- 50:42And to saying that if you don't do what I want, you know I'm
- 50:45going to blow you off the fucking face of the planet, I
- 50:48mean. Which if a country said that to
- 50:50us, we would label them as a terrorist.
- 50:54Of course we are. Terrorists any different?
- 50:56Yeah, we are not any different by definition.
- 50:59But just aren't. But the boot lickers are.
- 51:01If you just don't want to read the comments, it's insane.
- 51:04That's crazy. That the boot lickers are out
- 51:07there loud and proud. My, my friend Faith Martin was
- 51:11posted about it and people I could go down exit all day on
- 51:14comments about the insanity. So I'm sorry, I'm going to say
- 51:18this before we get off this podcast, and I know you're going
- 51:20to disagree with me, but this is a fucking racist country.
- 51:23It's a fucking racist country. And my I've had people, I heard
- 51:28people say, no, we're not, No, we're not.
- 51:29That's why. Kamala.
- 51:30And that's why Hillary and Kamala didn't get elected.
- 51:33No, I get it. But we, we are, we are the worst
- 51:36of the worst, you know? And then I discovered a new guy.
- 51:40He's great. I'm going to give you his name
- 51:41next week, I think. Anyway, he's very articulate.
- 51:44He's 25 years old. He's great and in some of these
- 51:47arguments, but it's like it's, it's just insane.
- 51:51It's just insane that this and and the sitting president can
- 51:55say the the F word now. Right.
- 51:58If Joe Biden or Obama would have said that, they.
- 52:01Would well, it's there, so we're in.
- 52:02So we're in what we're in. What about ISM?
- 52:05So what happens is someone will say this is horrific and someone
- 52:08goes, well, Biden did this, Obama did this.
- 52:10That always happens. No, but it's it's gotten to the
- 52:13point where it's just utterly insane.
- 52:16And and what's scary about the whole situation is no one
- 52:20fucking takes a stand. No, nobody and.
- 52:23This way, no one is going to 25th Amend him.
- 52:26That's why. So that's why they've gotten rid
- 52:28of so many high-ranking officials in the military
- 52:31because I'm sure that they are probably saying stuff like you
- 52:35can't do this or we shouldn't do this.
- 52:37And so they're just like getting rid of them.
- 52:39The guy OK, so at the Easter egg hunt, he's sitting up there
- 52:42talking to little kids about how Biden lot mean what the.
- 52:45Fuck, he is not. He is.
- 52:48No, it's like, it's like, so we've got three years left, 36
- 52:52months, hopefully we're all still here, still here in 36
- 52:54months. I don't know.
- 52:55I mean, even if, even if he tacos on this whole Iran
- 53:01deadline, like or if he walks back the deadline, changes the
- 53:04deadline, whatever, the damage is already done.
- 53:08Iran is already going to retaliate.
- 53:12And it might take five years, it might take 10 years.
- 53:15They are in it for the long game and they will get us somehow
- 53:18somewhere down the line. Like we've already set the stage
- 53:21for that and we kind of, I mean, because of him, because of all
- 53:24the shit he's saying. So it makes us all unsafe.
- 53:27And, and so, and that's for me, that's my, that's my big
- 53:30struggle because it's like you look at these amazing photos
- 53:35from Artemis, you know you're going.
- 53:37To say when you were talking about it, I thought you were
- 53:39going to say now all the flat earthers could see Earth is
- 53:44really rare. Oh, no, there's people.
- 53:45No, that someone, someone had posted up an AI picture and said
- 53:49it's the same stars. It's the same stars.
- 53:51Well, yeah, because it's an AI picture.
- 53:52Dumbasses #1 AI. We'll talk about AI in a
- 53:55different podcast, but AI has gone rampant, so.
- 53:58I just think so good you can't tell the difference.
- 54:01I wrote, I wrote. You'd think seeing these amazing
- 54:03photos would make humanity want to be better to each other, but
- 54:06alas, we are a small, petty race that really doesn't deserve the
- 54:09richest we have on our lone rock in the universe.
- 54:12If we all saw things from outer space and discovered how truly
- 54:15fragile life is, we'd be better stewards of our planet, animals
- 54:18and people. Yeah, that's how I.
- 54:20Think I think that's a good ending.
- 54:21Did you get any horrible comments to that though?
- 54:24My one Republican friend liked it because, because, because you
- 54:28know what? She is reasonable.
- 54:29But that's good. They're not all they're.
- 54:31Not perfect, she had not. She is not perfect, but but she
- 54:34is reasonable. And maybe, maybe before we get
- 54:37off here, the people will see the light of the day.
- 54:40But if we're not back next week, well, you fucking know what
- 54:42happened. That's it for today's episode of
- 54:46Rick and That Michelle Che. Thanks for hanging out with us.
- 54:49If you laugh, roll your eyes, or question our sanity even once,
- 54:54make sure you hit that follow button.
- 54:57Don't forget to rate and review the show.
- 54:59It helps people find our chaos. And hey, share it with a friend.
- 55:03It could use a laugh. We'll be back with more sarcasm
- 55:06stories and questionable life advice next time.
- 55:11See ya.
