- 0:05Christ is alive, he's alive. And well, Jesus has heard our
- 0:10voices, he sits at the right hand of the father and he is
- 0:16patient as he desires all to reach repentance.
- 0:19But there is a day coming when that number will be complete and
- 0:25he will return and take us home. And we be with him forever and
- 0:28ever and ever. And until then we want to please
- 0:31him. Do we not, we want to.
- 0:33Seek him, we want to know him and I pray as much as we've sang
- 0:37about our freedoms and Jesus, we would also fear Him for he is
- 0:41alive and he is Holy and he can intervene.
- 0:44In this very moment, he can bring life and he can also cease
- 0:49life, he can bring restoration and he can and his perfect
- 0:53Justice. Bring destruction.
- 0:55And so the Christ that we just sang to is the Christ that we
- 0:57are going to hear from. And I pray with you, I'm sure
- 1:01you are with me on this that his voice.
- 1:03And his voice alone would be heard and we're going to hear it
- 1:07in Mark chapter 5 together. The Bible is God's word.
- 1:15And the word of God is the voice of God.
- 1:17So meet me in Mark chapter 5. And scroll down in that chapter.
- 1:25Down to verse 35. If you were here last week, you
- 1:37know, where we ended, we ended at a very awkward place because
- 1:40we didn't complete the story as because the story's written a
- 1:44little differently. It's two stories really
- 1:47conjoined. Together, there's an
- 1:48intersection. There is a meeting of two people
- 1:51who had the same desire and desperate plea for Christ to do
- 1:55something in them. And at this time, we will
- 1:59continue where we left off and where we left off is with a
- 2:02crowd that is fixated on an interaction between the Jesus
- 2:08that we love in. No, and a broken woman who has
- 2:11been made whole by not him touching her but by her touching
- 2:16him And in this atmosphere of faith and compassion and love a
- 2:23group of Messengers. Come to gyrus, the the man who
- 2:28originally invited Jesus to his home because he also has a need.
- 2:31He has a little baby little girl.
- 2:34The age of 12 who is terminally ill and she is ready to give her
- 2:38final breath at any second. And this group of people come to
- 2:43update gyrus with what had taken place with his child and in that
- 2:50very precious moment where so many hearts came alive.
- 2:56Gyrus would have the wind of Hope knocked right out of him as
- 3:00he would hear. The words that no father would
- 3:04want to receive concerning their ailing child.
- 3:08Your daughter is dead. Your daughter is dead and you
- 3:15can imagine how the heart of this desperate father sank to
- 3:19his stomach. He can also Imagine The
- 3:23intrusive thoughts, the crashing ideas that would have visited
- 3:27him in that very moment. A flood of confusion may be
- 3:31frustration and fear that would have buried him further into
- 3:36despair, unless the Lord had interjected immediately and
- 3:40provided a word of a show. Assurance, a revelation that
- 3:46would have rescued him and it did.
- 3:50Do not fear only believe. Do not fear only believe and
- 3:57there is no doubt that gyrus here would have experienced this
- 4:01temptation as a prevailing one. The prevailing thought could
- 4:05have been that he would have connected the death of his
- 4:09daughter with the delay that Jesus had prolonged.
- 4:13Let's read this together. They understand what I am
- 4:16saying. In verse 35, while he being
- 4:19Jesus was still speaking. There came from the rulers
- 4:23house. House some who said your
- 4:25daughter is dead? Why trouble?
- 4:28The teacher any further? But overhearing what they said.
- 4:32Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, do not fear, only
- 4:37believe. And he Allowed no one to follow
- 4:40him, except Peter and James, and John, the brother of James.
- 4:46You read that in verse 35, while he being Jesus was still
- 4:50speaking. Speaking to the woman that he
- 4:52just restored. This woman who was stunned by
- 4:55the fact that this man who was a obvious men of God, a prophet
- 4:59more than a prophet Messiah turning to her and saying
- 5:02daughter daughter and reassuring her.
- 5:05Not just of her restoration physically, but of a
- 5:09relationship, a relationship with the true and living God.
- 5:12He's speaking to her And while he's speaking to her, these
- 5:17Messengers came and tell this father your daughter is gone.
- 5:21Why bother him? And he further Why move forward.
- 5:24This is it this is the Finish Line let's just let's just go
- 5:27home. There's a funeral waiting for
- 5:30you. Could it be that gyrus thought?
- 5:35Oh, Jesus. If you had just kept walking
- 5:38instead of talking What would you think if you were gyrus in
- 5:43this moment? What would be the thoughts?
- 5:46What would be the calculations you would have made?
- 5:49Maybe my daughter wouldn't have died if Lord, you weren't I'm
- 5:53sorry to say distracted. May be distracted.
- 5:58And here we have already an instruction from the school of
- 6:01faith. That is absolutely important for
- 6:04you and I to know about ourselves.
- 6:07Our fear comes from many things, but let me tell you what the
- 6:10strongest, or one of the strongest motivations for our
- 6:13fear. It is from a perception, a false
- 6:17perception that Christ supervision over our fares is
- 6:21subject to negligence or oversight.
- 6:24One of the things that create fear is our, our failed
- 6:28perception, that Jesus is subject in his lordship of my
- 6:33life, to being negligent forgetful.
- 6:39Overwhelmed. Maybe sometimes.
- 6:44Emotionally unstable. And I didn't do my best this
- 6:47week, so he changed his ideas about how he's going to bless me
- 6:51and guide me and provide for me. You know, if I were to ask every
- 6:55single person in this place, do you believe Jesus is The
- 6:59Shepherd of your soul? Do you believe he really guides
- 7:01you? Do you believe you can provide
- 7:02everything that you need? It would be very hard for me to
- 7:05believe that one of you would even say I don't think so unless
- 7:08you're a non-believer. I don't think that's the object
- 7:11of our doubt. I think we all can say yes it's
- 7:14right. Jesus Does lead us he promises
- 7:16to not forsake us. But it's our doubt that comes
- 7:21from his ability to do so consistently or adequately.
- 7:27And if we're not careful that kind of fear when it is
- 7:30nurtured, and tolerated can convince us that we can evaluate
- 7:36the Lord's faithfulness based on whether or not he comes through
- 7:41according to our timetable, or are preferred type of provision.
- 7:46And then we sit on the Judgment seat. looking down at our Lord
- 7:50and saying, You claim to be faithful.
- 7:55But look I can point to different things where to me, it
- 7:58wasn't really the best that you can do.
- 8:02I know that's not easy to hear, but listen, are ugly hearts.
- 8:06Can testify of what I'm saying. We've had those thoughts.
- 8:10We've had those ideas come through.
- 8:14And gyrus did the right thing of coming to the Lord.
- 8:16He did the absolute perfect thing to come to the Lord.
- 8:20And to just unravel his heart and say, here I am.
- 8:24This is something that I can do. I give it over to you.
- 8:28And because of the nature of the problem, the nature of the
- 8:31issue, that's all gyrus could have done.
- 8:35And that's a freeing thought that.
- 8:36When you and I come to the Lord with a burden in that very
- 8:40moment, we also have to rest and knowing that's all I could do.
- 8:46This is all I can do. This is what gyrus need to do
- 8:51this very moment that the same Jesus you called upon as the
- 8:54same G's as you are supposed to continue to trust in moment,
- 8:59after moment, day after day, regardless of how things play
- 9:02out and here is why the rest comes from the Revelation that
- 9:07you have surrendered, it to an all Sovereign God who actually
- 9:12cares about you? That's where the rest comes.
- 9:15You've placed it before him and because of that, there should be
- 9:19a Serene Stillness. That is unshakable.
- 9:24In fact it's amazing how the Bible describes what should come
- 9:29about for those who claim to have faith in this God and I
- 9:33want to show you one of the most precious promises attached to
- 9:37simple Faith like simple trust in the Lord.
- 9:41It's an Isaiah 28. And I would like you to go there
- 9:44with me in verse 16. Despite delays despite the
- 9:52circumstance of concern, that seems to grow worse and worse
- 9:56before your eyes. here's what God says about those who really
- 10:01believe who truly believe Isaiah 28, verse 16.
- 10:13Therefore, thus says the Lord God.
- 10:16Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation and Zionist
- 10:21own. A tested Stone, a precious,
- 10:24Cornerstone of a sure Foundation here it is.
- 10:26You ready whoever believes will not be in haste whoever believes
- 10:33will not be in haste. What does that mean?
- 10:39It means that a person who really believes is not overcome
- 10:42by uncertainty. They're not fidgety.
- 10:47They're not fickle. They're not frail.
- 10:51They are someone who understands the foundation that they've laid
- 10:56their life on, Is something that you can rest on continually
- 11:00regardless of the trembling beneath your feet.
- 11:04A person who is not in haste as somebody who doesn't scatter,
- 11:07and abandon his post to try to find a different recipe of
- 11:11success. You're not the soil that is
- 11:15received this thing with joy immediately, but the moment
- 11:18Trouble Comes, you uproot yourself and move somewhere else
- 11:21to give your roots to know a person who really believes is
- 11:25not in haste. His faith.
- 11:28Empowers him by the grace of God to be composed and calm,
- 11:34regardless regardless of anything that would demand
- 11:37otherwise. He will not be in haste. and
- 11:42then Paul, the Apostle borrows from this very scripture in
- 11:46Romans 9, To make a case about faith.
- 11:50But even though he is making the same point as the prophet
- 11:53intended, the Holy Spirit puts a different shade on it.
- 11:57Not that Paul changes this verse but he borrows the Greek version
- 12:01of the Hebrew text called the Septuagint.
- 12:06And it is still scripture obviously, but there's a
- 12:08different shade to this promise that only adds to the blessing
- 12:13of what it means to be a person who believes.
- 12:16And so you have to see it for your own eyes and with your own
- 12:19eyes and Romans 9. And in Romans 9 33, look how
- 12:22Paul gives the same verse and notice the difference in the
- 12:27promise though, it is the same heart.
- 12:35Romans 9:33. Isaiah said, whoever believes
- 12:40will not be in haste. Paul says, as he quotes the same
- 12:46text as it is written, behold, I am laying in Zion a stone of
- 12:50stumbling and a rock of offense and whoever believes in him will
- 12:55not be put to shame. Will not be put to shame the
- 13:00same text a different shade. And what he means here is that
- 13:05the emphasis for the believer, the promise toward him, who
- 13:10believes, is that? Because of his faith, he will
- 13:13never be disappointed. Never, he won't be embarrassed.
- 13:19He won't be regretful. He will in hindsight realized.
- 13:24Oh, this Foundation is the only foundation.
- 13:28And this Messiah is a faithful, God.
- 13:33And so put those things together, the believer will not
- 13:37be in haste. He's not panicky.
- 13:40He doesn't drift. He's solid.
- 13:44Because the foundation is solid and more than that beyond that
- 13:48he will never be put to shame as you continue to trust the Lord
- 13:52and petition. The Lord, and wait on the Lord.
- 13:55His promise to you is I'll never make you blush.
- 13:59I'll never make you think that I really, really, really do the
- 14:02right thing and giving myself to this truth You will know the
- 14:08light. So you'll be stable through and
- 14:13you will be joyful when you come through, whoever beliefs The
- 14:18news of his daughter's death is not the only thing that these
- 14:21Messengers brought forth to him. What did they say afterwards?
- 14:24Your daughter is dead. Then they went on to say why
- 14:27trouble the teacher any further. In other words, these Postman
- 14:32came to gyrus and they said there's no more that Christ can
- 14:36really do at this point. Your daughter's been sealed with
- 14:40the fate of the grave. So just dismiss him and move on
- 14:46and let's just go and mourn your loved one.
- 14:51And yet again, we have another instruction, here concerning the
- 14:53school of Faith because we're all in the school of Faith.
- 14:56We're just at different levels. And God has one goal for all of
- 14:59his children that they would graduate.
- 15:02So, here's another truth gyrus here, unfortunately, was the
- 15:08recipient of Agents of fear. Instead of faith.
- 15:12These men came to him not to build his faith in the person of
- 15:16Jesus, but the cast more doubt. If it caused him to ultimately
- 15:20deny the power of Jesus. And if we are not continually
- 15:25aware of that, if you're not prepared for that, you can be
- 15:29caught off guard. And you can be swept up by the
- 15:33skepticism and by the Limited understanding of others who
- 15:37might mean well, but don't know the God of this Bible the way
- 15:41they should. Not everybody is an agent that
- 15:46will benefit you and bless you. Unfortunately, there are some
- 15:50who will come to stifle and to dampen and to bring you low and
- 15:55here's the thing. Yeah they're unbelievers there
- 15:57on my social media to do that. No, no.
- 15:59I'm talking about people who have some kind of grasp of who
- 16:02Jesus is and what he can do. These people understood that he
- 16:05was a teacher and they understood that he could do some
- 16:07things. But their problem was their
- 16:09scope of Faith was very limited Christ, demanded so much.
- 16:14Why bother the teacher any further, meaning he could have
- 16:18done something up to this point, but beyond this point, he's not
- 16:21very helpful. You have people who are like
- 16:24that in the realm of Christendom.
- 16:27They have an idea of what Jesus can do but they really don't
- 16:30have a full understanding of what he can do.
- 16:33And those kind of people affect those who are really believing
- 16:36God for something and trusting and waiting on the Lord more
- 16:40than anybody else. What should have the counsel of
- 16:43these men be, I don't want to add to scripture, but we have
- 16:46enough scripture to know exactly what true friends, true
- 16:49Messengers should have done. I suggest that they shouldn't
- 16:52have downplayed the death of the daughter.
- 16:53But also, instead of saying, why bother the teacher any further,
- 16:57you know, what, I would have said to drivers Why not seek the
- 17:02teacher further? Why not teach yourself by coming
- 17:09to Jesus and trusting that there is nothing too great for him.
- 17:14And that in that moment, whatever counsel he gives rest
- 17:17in that truth, that would have been much better message.
- 17:20Hey, this thing escalated gyrus turn to the Lord now and beseech
- 17:25him and implore him and see what he says.
- 17:30Let him make the final call, let him draw the line.
- 17:34But that is not the case, not everyone around us will spur us
- 17:38on to Christ and to trust them more.
- 17:40So be aware be very aware fear is just as contagious as
- 17:46faithless. Fears just as contagious as
- 17:49faithless and this is an instruction throughout the
- 17:52Bible. Even when Israel would go to war
- 17:54before they would head out, they would have a pep talk and the
- 17:58leader would look out and see if any of you are afraid.
- 18:00Go home. If any of you are afraid go home
- 18:04less, you make your other Brethren's, Hearts melt and
- 18:07fear. So the Bible is very aware and
- 18:09clear and telling us that people who are fearful can rub off on
- 18:13even those who have a little bit of faith.
- 18:17There's so many examples of that, but I want to move on.
- 18:21We see here. That Christ was speaking to this
- 18:24woman at this time. And guess what?
- 18:27Jesus heard it verse 36. But overhearing what they said,
- 18:31Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, do not fear only
- 18:34believe based on how Jesus is dressed in.
- 18:37Do you know how we know what happened to gyrus?
- 18:42Clearly, he was smitten. By some kind of anxiety or
- 18:47Terror and we can understand that.
- 18:49And so Jesus addresses that he focuses on Isis.
- 18:52Listen, I know what you're feeling right now.
- 18:54Do not fear, do not fear, and then he provides the antidote to
- 19:00overcome it and it's summarized in two simple words, right?
- 19:03We all know it only believe. Only believe fear might have
- 19:11many faces, I'm telling you, the object of people's fears are
- 19:15vast and wide though. The fear itself is universal, we
- 19:18all know what fear feels like. One's fear might be another's.
- 19:23Forte might be their strength and might be you actually
- 19:27bothered by this. Nevertheless, the remedy is the
- 19:31same for all types of fear, whether that fear is financial
- 19:34challenges, potential failure, the fangs of enemies who are
- 19:37merciless or the unknown future. The solution is the same only
- 19:43believe, only believe And in Luke's version of the same text,
- 19:51the Holy Spirit tells us that Jesus added something to that.
- 19:55So he said in Luke 850, you don't have to turn there unless
- 19:58you want to Do not fear only believe and she will be well.
- 20:08And she will be well, okay. I'm going to just be very
- 20:14pastoral now We're gonna do some discipleship.
- 20:18Just very practical impartation here.
- 20:23One of the most effective ways to Prevail against the energy
- 20:28draining night. Stalking feeling known as fear.
- 20:33This is the best way to do it, is to Face it with the most
- 20:40tailored promise that you can find in God's word regarding
- 20:44that very same thing. That is trying to nudge you
- 20:49Here's the point that I'm trying to make the more specific, the
- 20:53truth is the sharper, the blow will be against that, very lie,
- 20:58that wants to ravage your faith. Believer.
- 21:03I want to stretch you hear God wants you to grow.
- 21:07Don't settle in spiritual warfare for generalities about
- 21:11who God is. Don't try to go out there and to
- 21:17live this life for the glory of Jesus Christ and depend upon
- 21:21vague ideas of who God is and what he can do.
- 21:27It won't take you too far. The best thing that you can do
- 21:32the most brilliant thing that you can do to whether trials or
- 21:36to endure, those Seasons where you are really struggling to
- 21:40maintain peace and trust and glory to Jesus Christ is to take
- 21:46what came from God's mouth. And then to play it over and
- 21:53over again in your mind and especially in your prayers.
- 21:58What did God say? What did he say?
- 22:02What did he really say? No, it become familiar with it.
- 22:08Hide it. Rehearse it.
- 22:12We need to go beyond in those hours of Crisis.
- 22:16God, you're good. I need some help here that that
- 22:18is okay. But there's better.
- 22:24Reach deep in the Armory of faith and pull out those weapons
- 22:29that come from the words of God about you and toward you.
- 22:35Wield it and watch it / Every Lie.
- 22:41And cut deeper. Until it bleeds to death.
- 22:48When I think about this, I have so many examples that come to
- 22:51mind, but the one that came to mind was that a Jacob?
- 22:56Remember Jacob was told go to your uncle laban's house.
- 22:58And his mother said. I'll fetch for you when his
- 23:00anger subsides and we have no indication that she ever sends
- 23:03an email. Hey, he says doing better.
- 23:07You can come back home. He stays for years, he gets
- 23:11married. Got tricked into one of them.
- 23:14It's married. Again, has children, he has an
- 23:19Empire of a business and the next thing that he hears about
- 23:24his brother, Esau who comforted himself of murdering his own
- 23:29blood, is what you see. In Genesis 32, I want you to see
- 23:33it in verse 7. Let's go to the beginning here.
- 23:42And see how the Bible is harmonious with its precepts and
- 23:46promises and principles. Here is the next thing that this
- 23:50man hears. About his brother.
- 23:58Let's go to verse 6 of Genesis 32 and The Messengers returned
- 24:04to Jacob saying we came to your brother Esau and he is coming to
- 24:08meet you and there are four hundred men with him.
- 24:10How comforting is that? If you had just said, Isa was
- 24:15coming. I can deal with Esau.
- 24:19But for whatever reason he saw it necessary to bring 400 guys
- 24:23with him, some kind of reunions. You can imagine how he felt
- 24:28verse, 7 tells us so you don't have to go too far with your
- 24:30imagination, then. Jacob was greatly afraid.
- 24:34Greatly afraid and distressed. He divided the people who are
- 24:39with him and the flocks and herds and camels into two camps
- 24:42thinking if he succumbs to the one camp and attacks it, then
- 24:46the camp that is left will escape so he plants I don't
- 24:49blame him. Okay let me break this thing up
- 24:52so that he doesn't completely devour me.
- 24:54One side can at least accept Escape if he's to come the way.
- 24:58He is planning to come. That's not all he does.
- 25:04He does what you and I should do.
- 25:05He does what gyrus did verse 9 and Jacob said, oh god of My
- 25:10Father, Abraham God of my father Isaac.
- 25:13Oh Lord, here's the part. Look at this.
- 25:16Who said to me, Who said to me, you said something to me.
- 25:25You inscribe something over my fate.
- 25:30You've determined my future. Who said to me, return to your
- 25:34country and to your Kindred that I may do you good?
- 25:40so, the sphere Just unannounced, visits him and he knew exactly
- 25:46how to wrestle it. He wrestles it with what God had
- 25:49said to him. I got news about Esau, I'm now
- 25:53going to combat it with the news that God already gave me And he
- 25:58begins to now in the presence of God before God tell God, not
- 26:02that God is forgetful. But for his own heart, his own
- 26:05soul. You told me, you told me return
- 26:09to your country, He didn't just stay there, scroll down to verse
- 26:1412 and see what he continues to do.
- 26:16Verse 12, but you said he's still praying.
- 26:20But you said I will surely. Do you good and make your
- 26:23Offspring as the sand of the sea?
- 26:24Which cannot be numbered for multitude.
- 26:26Jacob new. The promises of God.
- 26:30There right there. The bullets were in the chamber,
- 26:35they're ready to fire. And so he says you said this and
- 26:40Lord, you also said this. That's how you overcome that's
- 26:46how you see Victory, that's how you see yourself, escaped the
- 26:49clutches. Of anxiety and worry.
- 26:54Despair. And if you're serious about
- 26:59living, Fearless, if you're serious about knowing and
- 27:02coasting in life, With peace and serenity.
- 27:08And Repose, then you'll be serious about what God had said.
- 27:13You'll be serious about what God had said, and I get it.
- 27:16Because I've been there. I've been there.
- 27:17Here's where I've been Putting great effort into looking at the
- 27:22word of God, trying to memorize the word of God. and when the
- 27:28Trouble Comes, it seems as though things just evaporate,
- 27:36And you can't hold on to anything and it's very hard to
- 27:42remain calm and to recollect when your heart, and your mind
- 27:46is being flooded with so much. So, the best thing really is in
- 27:54that moment to have it ready on your lips, right?
- 27:56And just to know what to say in that time, but if you can't find
- 28:00those specific promises for every single situation in life,
- 28:02though, that would be the greatest thing and do the next
- 28:05best thing and have have just a couple solid solid promises
- 28:11about who God is descriptions of the faithfulness of God,
- 28:15examples of what God has done in other people's lives and have
- 28:18those things ready to apply to anything.
- 28:21At any moment, I shared this a few Fridays ago and I think it's
- 28:24worth sharing. Now, I remember years ago,
- 28:27talking to someone who reached out to me and I barely talked to
- 28:29this person, they just felt that impressing their hearts to
- 28:32update me and to hear what's going on in my life.
- 28:35And when we just share, what's going on and that person asks,
- 28:38how can I pray for you? I shared a couple of requests
- 28:40and in that moment he prayed like any of us would pray what's
- 28:42on our hearts, what we may be said before, but in that prayer,
- 28:46he paused and I knew he wasn't reading a text or a verse or
- 28:50anything from an Actual page. But just from his heart came out
- 28:54a passage from Isaiah. And when he had said it, that
- 28:59was the most impactful thing he prayed for me.
- 29:03Because God said it, it came from God's mouth. and to this
- 29:10day, that left an imprint on my heart and I forgot everything
- 29:14else that men prayed for Have something ready?
- 29:20Have something ready for you. Have something ready for a
- 29:22brother have something ready for that.
- 29:24Emergency phone call have something ready.
- 29:26When you bump into a person, and in that moment, you have nothing
- 29:29to turn to, but it's there and you can rehearse it, and you can
- 29:32declare it and you can share it. And you can also see perhaps
- 29:35somebody else delivered, If you can't, if you can't even get
- 29:40yourself to get there, if you're still rather, I'm being honest.
- 29:42It takes takes much for me to arrive there.
- 29:44Then do the next best thing. Here's the next best thing apart
- 29:48from this. I don't know.
- 29:48I was to help you, I'm sorry. Be familiar enough with the map
- 29:54of the Bible. Your Bible get a copy of God's
- 29:57word in your hand. I'm a book guy, get God's book
- 30:02in your hand because there's something about even not being
- 30:05able to know references at the top of your head.
- 30:07There's something about reading it, consistently enough being
- 30:09familiar with it enough where, you know, where it's vaguely
- 30:12connected in some page in the right side than the side of the
- 30:15book and that book. And here's the next best thing.
- 30:18No, at least where you can find the promise of God with the word
- 30:22of God in your hands. So you can turn there as you're
- 30:27breathing heavily and sweating profusely and you can look at a
- 30:31scripture or Psalm that you know where to go to and just rehearse
- 30:35it and read it and wash yourself in it.
- 30:42I know our faith is about Grace by, God's not going to help us
- 30:44do this. He gave us a brain.
- 30:47He gave us a book and he gave us principles so that we can grow
- 30:53and no greater strength against our foes and this flesh.
- 30:57Jacob knew how to wrestle because he knew what God had
- 31:00said. Something was set the gyrus.
- 31:07Do not fear only believe. Luke says, she will be well,
- 31:11that's what he held onto, and we have every reason to believe
- 31:14that he trusted and obeyed. What Jesus had said, because we
- 31:18find ourselves in the next portion of this, text
- 31:21approaching gyrus is home. But before we enter into his
- 31:26house, we're told something quite interesting in verse 37.
- 31:30We're told by the spirit of God, that Jesus only allowed.
- 31:35Peter and James, and John, the brother of James to go with him.
- 31:39So remember there was a crowd, that was following Jesus.
- 31:43And then there was a checkpoint, the woman grabs ahold of His
- 31:46Garment Jesus pauses and a dresser gyrus now is they're
- 31:51filled with fear because these messenger said your daughter is
- 31:54dead and so at that at that point Jesus looks at the crowd
- 31:57and he dismisses them. and not just them, he looks at his 12
- 32:02and he says, you, you come with me Come with me.
- 32:07Peter James and John. Let's go.
- 32:10No reaction from the others. This is the first time that we
- 32:14are introduced in our study of the gospels of Jesus, Inner
- 32:17Circle, Jesus had Inner Circle and it was the same Trio.
- 32:22We find them here, we find them in different portions and
- 32:25different miraculous events. We find them even in those final
- 32:29moments, in the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus would,
- 32:31you pray with me and they couldn't even do that for an
- 32:33hour. I'm not going to spend time here
- 32:37explaining why Jesus had an inner circle.
- 32:42But I want to show you for one brief moment who was in a circle
- 32:46and why that should bless us three people mention, you know
- 32:50who moves me? the fact that Peter went, out of
- 32:55all of them, Peter Yeah, he had leadership qualities but he
- 33:00messed up a lot. And you're saying, well, where
- 33:04did he mess up here? He actually did.
- 33:06Go back to verse 30 and 31. We didn't cover this in depth
- 33:11last week, but it's worth looking at it.
- 33:12Now, when Jesus was touched by this woman, it says, in verse 30
- 33:17perceiving in himself, that power had gone out from him
- 33:20immediately turned about in the crown and said, who touched my
- 33:23garments? Who touched my garments and his
- 33:27disciples said to him, you see the crowd pressing around you
- 33:30and yet you say who touched me? Okay, here are the disciples
- 33:35again proving that they are lagging.
- 33:39And are limited and their understanding of divine
- 33:41perspective, Jesus experienced something, Jesus perceive
- 33:44something, they couldn't register why he would ask such a
- 33:48question when there is pendemonium going on and people
- 33:52pressing in on him perhaps even others trying to grab him as
- 33:55well. And yet, Jesus is asking who
- 33:58touched me? And there's a hint of criticism
- 34:03here from the disciples. Are you actually asking this
- 34:07question? And you can also imagine that
- 34:12these disciples are feeling a little squeeze because they feel
- 34:16the stress and the pressure of getting to gyrus is home before.
- 34:19It's too late and here's the Lord pausing and asking a
- 34:22question. Like that, who touched me Lord?
- 34:25Is it really important? Now to figure out the obvious?
- 34:29Everyone is touching you They understand that there was power
- 34:35that came out of him. There is someone who really
- 34:39touched me. They didn't perceive that.
- 34:44But when you go to Luke's version, who do you think the
- 34:47main spokesperson of the criticism was, you don't have to
- 34:50guess it, but I want to show you so don't think I'm lying Luke
- 34:528:45. Luke 8:45.
- 35:03We're told in Mark all the disciples side this but Luke by
- 35:08the spirit highlights, the spokesman Luke 8:45 and Jesus
- 35:12said who was it that touched me? When all denied it, Peter said
- 35:18Master the crowds around you and you are and are pressing in on
- 35:22you. Peter Peter, Peter.
- 35:28So quick to speak. So quick to sound Superior and
- 35:35smart. So quick to bring correction,
- 35:39you didn't do it just this time he brought correction on
- 35:41different occasions to Jesus. What kind of audacity have to
- 35:46criticize? Someone who is perfect?
- 35:48That's who we're dealing with you Peter?
- 35:52And think about if Peter was responsible here for these
- 35:55comments, you would think that he would be the last guy to get
- 35:59a front-row seat to a resurrection.
- 36:02And yet Jesus, when he chose his Trio, said, Peter, let's go.
- 36:10That was the others as we really, Lord m.
- 36:16And I looked at that, and I thought to myself meditating on
- 36:18it last night and here's the question that came to mind.
- 36:22Rhetorically, are you not happy? Are you not glad that?
- 36:27Jesus still allows us to follow him to gives us, give us
- 36:30glimpses of his glory and his goodness, even though at times
- 36:34we doubt and maybe even internalized criticism towards
- 36:37his leadership. I'm just so blown away from time
- 36:45to time that the Lord allows me to still play on his team.
- 36:50And doesn't bench me. even though I do things like what
- 36:55Peter's done, it's amazing to know that we can slip up mess
- 37:00up. He had the Lord is still willing
- 37:04to invite us deeper. Take us further.
- 37:10See, that's not fair. Well, that's what Grace is.
- 37:13It's not fair. Well, wouldn't that encourage us
- 37:17to just mess up even more, not, not if you love him.
- 37:23It will melt you, it will mold you.
- 37:27It will be the greatest encouragement to Holiness that
- 37:29you can imagine. So, Peter gets to go. and Jesus
- 37:35brings three, because there is a law in Deuteronomy that On the
- 37:39basis of two or three Witnesses. A thing is established.
- 37:43So he brings three to testify. What's about to take place?
- 37:49So they come. As encouraging as that point is,
- 37:52we have to balance it. We have to balance it with an
- 37:56honest view of how Jesus responds to Faith.
- 38:00And it is true that it he is patient and he beckons us
- 38:04despite our imperfection and are stumbling.
- 38:07But look at what he's about to do.
- 38:09Now is he encounters a crowd that is crushing into the home
- 38:13of gyrus verse 38? They came to the house of the
- 38:17ruler of the synagogue and Jesus saw a commotion people weeping
- 38:21and wailing loudly. And we had when he had entered,
- 38:24he said to them. Why are you making a commotion
- 38:27and weeping? The child is not dead, but
- 38:30sleeping and they laughed at him.
- 38:34And they laughed at him but he put him out all outside and took
- 38:38the child's father and mother and those who are with him and
- 38:40went in with a child was, they laughed at him?
- 38:42So here's what happens. Jesus enters into the scene and
- 38:45it's chaos. Wailing weeping, pulling
- 38:51screaming. Screeching And the Lord steps
- 38:56in. And he provides comforting
- 39:00correction. What is this all for?
- 39:06She's asleep, she's not dead. And it makes you question.
- 39:12Whether this grieving was a performance or if it was sincere
- 39:15because they were able to shut that off so quickly and turn to
- 39:18him and begin to mock him. It's very difficult for a
- 39:22morning person to do. Jarvis was unimportant, man.
- 39:27It's not a mystery. Why?
- 39:28There are so many people attending his daughter's
- 39:30funeral. And the Lord wants to now do
- 39:34something even in their hearts. By elevating their perspective
- 39:37about this situation to God's Viewpoint of her condition and
- 39:42of her hopeful future by saying she's not she's not dead.
- 39:46She's asleep. Listen.
- 39:48When you're in Christ and when you believe this Christ and when
- 39:52you follow this Christ, you see things differently, everything
- 39:57differently. When you're truly born again.
- 40:02May God help you. If you are selling for a cheap
- 40:06fake salvation, just to have some social credit among other
- 40:10professing Christians don't settle for anything.
- 40:13But the true thing because when you're truly born again, I'm
- 40:16telling you, you'll know you're born again and when you know
- 40:18you're born again, here's one way.
- 40:20You see things differently? You see things differently.
- 40:24Your eyes are open to New World though.
- 40:26You've traveled through these streets before, and come into
- 40:29these buildings before. And ate the same food before and
- 40:31handled the same money. Before everything now is
- 40:34changed, there is a redefining of all aspects of life,
- 40:38including the dreaded appointment that you and I have
- 40:41with death. Because of the supremacy of the
- 40:47Lord Jesus Christ, his authority, his vicarious death
- 40:52and Resurrection. He's able to look at something
- 40:55as permanent as death and give it a different definition.
- 40:59He's able to give it a different metaphor, different figure and
- 41:03say, This is just a transition. This is temporal.
- 41:11She's not sealed in this condition forever, she's coming
- 41:15out of it and every time you go through the New Testament and
- 41:18you read the reference of death labeled as sleep, it is a
- 41:24reminder from the Holy Spirit to you that one day your body.
- 41:29Will be awakened at a resurrection morning.
- 41:34We don't believe in Soul, sleep. We don't believe that when you
- 41:36die, it's like when you go to sleep, and then when the
- 41:39Resurrection comes, then you will be present with the Lord,
- 41:41we believe that the moment you give your final breath, your
- 41:43soul is in his arms and you come into His presence.
- 41:48And the resurrection that we're speaking of here, the sleep is
- 41:53the body that same body that has been corrupted by sin, scarred
- 41:57by iniquity traumatized, by your own decisions, and by the force
- 42:01of others that same body, one day when Christ, makes the call,
- 42:05will know a glorification, a healing and a renewal forever
- 42:09and ever and ever. It's sleep.
- 42:15So why grief Christian that's why our funerals should look
- 42:18different. That's why our morning is not
- 42:21extended. Can I tell you something?
- 42:27Christian marriages are a joy and this may sound strange, but
- 42:31it may be just as strangest. Death being referred to as sleep
- 42:34funerals are also exciting when it comes to a person that you
- 42:37know who's in that casket walk with God.
- 42:41I don't like the funerals. I go to where people claim to be
- 42:43Christians but their life, testifies otherwise and you just
- 42:45hope that they're in heaven. I don't like those funerals.
- 42:49I like those funerals where you go and you're like, I know where
- 42:52that guy is, I know where she is.
- 42:55Oh, that person. Loved God.
- 42:57That person served. That person was truly a saint
- 43:01because of the grace of Jesus, guys in them and through them.
- 43:04Celebration. They're sleeping and I can go up
- 43:08to that casket and pay my respects and say, I'll see you
- 43:11soon. Do you have that confidence?
- 43:18Death is referred to in the Book of Job as the king of Terrors.
- 43:25People say I'm not afraid of death, really.
- 43:29You just flinched at them and you see them go like that,
- 43:31clearly, you're afraid of being hurt.
- 43:33If you're afraid of being heard and you're afraid of dying, But
- 43:40Christ delivers you from death. He delivers you from the fear of
- 43:45death. And he gives you a whole new
- 43:48dictionary on life. Were you able to look at death
- 43:52itself and say? Because of Jesus, this is sleep
- 43:56for the believer that stirs you to worship for the unbelieving.
- 44:00It's a cause for derision and Scorn.
- 44:01And that's exactly what we just said.
- 44:03And heard. They laughed at him.
- 44:07It's not just a chuckle because of a surprising comment made by
- 44:11some stranger to just deal with the awkward tension.
- 44:14It was a collective effort. To mock Jesus and his message.
- 44:20It was continual, they kept jeering at him.
- 44:25And it came to the point where the reaction of these people was
- 44:29enough for Jesus, to say, okay, I know what I'm going to do with
- 44:31you and he pulls them away from the whole thing and pushes them
- 44:35out. That's how much Authority had.
- 44:36I don't know how he did it. That's kind of like a cleansing
- 44:39of the temple thing but he managed to take a packed house
- 44:43and with his authority, get out. And the same way that we read
- 44:51this reaction and believe that it points to a reflection of the
- 44:55culture that we are in today, which blasphemes God's truth.
- 45:00On so many fronts I believe that the Judgment that Christ gave
- 45:04this crowd is also a foreshadowing of what will come
- 45:07on that final day to the same type of people.
- 45:11They laughed at him and we read but he put them all outside.
- 45:18He put them outside of a home to not witness a resurrection, but
- 45:21there will be a final evasion where people will not be in the
- 45:26presence of God and will not know the resurrection unto life.
- 45:30Because during this life, they mocked him.
- 45:34They hated him, they despised him and they rejected his truth.
- 45:40When it was given to them. Don't be that person.
- 45:43Don't be that person. You will miss out on so much.
- 45:50not just in this life, but in eternal life, these people were
- 45:54exposed to the truth but they were expelled.
- 45:58And one day there will be a people who have been exposed to
- 46:00truth. And there will be an eternal
- 46:03expulsion. Where there will be weeping and
- 46:06gnashing of teeth. I pray that your soul would be
- 46:08saved for real if you're not born again, in this place.
- 46:14Jesus tells them to leave. Let's finish this together with
- 46:19an alertness, shall we? Verse 41.
- 46:23Taking her by the hand. I love that.
- 46:28Because Mark is very descriptive of how Jesus is personal and his
- 46:33miracles. He looks around to see, you see
- 46:36a lot of seeing from Jesus in, Mark, there's a lot of touching
- 46:39with the Miracles and Mark to show that he's personal.
- 46:43He's compassionate, he wants to be near.
- 46:45He doesn't just want to dispense his power from afar.
- 46:48He wants you to feel him and know his love and every touch
- 46:51taking her by the hand, he said to her talitha, koum.
- 46:55I Aramaic. Which means little girl, I say
- 46:58to To arise. You can imagine the suspense of
- 47:02that moment, right? And immediately, the girl got up
- 47:07and began walking for. She was 12 years of age and they
- 47:10were immediately overcome with amazement.
- 47:17This healing was so complete. There was no need for Rehab.
- 47:19There was no need for any kind of supervision or inclination
- 47:24towards restoration. It was immediate she left.
- 47:27She just jumped out of bed and began walking around with full
- 47:30strength in Her Bones in her muscles in her nerves.
- 47:36They were amazed that what they had seen And it could have ended
- 47:41there but it ends with verse 43 and verse 43 is so insightful
- 47:46and he strictly charged them. That no one should know this.
- 47:52Why why not? Well, one reason for certain is
- 47:57because Jesus again did not want to fuel The hysteria of people
- 48:02coming to him just for miracles, he had a message, there is
- 48:07healing in his gospel that he wanted to prioritize.
- 48:09And to throw this out there with would probably just cause people
- 48:13to get all caught up in the Miracles all over again.
- 48:15And so he hesitates for this news to go out just yet, But
- 48:22there's something else, he tells them.
- 48:25And told them to give her something to eat.
- 48:30Now, we look at that were like, okay, that's, that's a sweet
- 48:32gesture know. It says something, it says
- 48:35something about Christ. Because again, let's go back
- 48:38into that scene that bedroom, right?
- 48:40This young girl gets up, she starts walking and you can just
- 48:43imagine the joy just bursting forth.
- 48:46You can imagine that belief but this belief, you can imagine the
- 48:50embrace, you can imagine the tears, the crying if she had
- 48:52siblings, while she was the only one that maybe other relatives
- 48:55in there, that would hear later on the reunions, that would
- 48:57happen that and all these things, right?
- 49:00And yet, with all of that, Holy commotion, Jesus is aware of
- 49:05something that nobody else is aware of.
- 49:06Hey, she needs to eat. Give her something to eat.
- 49:11She probably hasn't eaten in days.
- 49:14Give her some food, somebody preparers some lunch.
- 49:19And reflecting on that. I thought to myself that showed
- 49:21that the Lord was more attentive to her needs.
- 49:23And anyone else in that house, he knew exactly where she was at
- 49:27and the depth of his awareness of what she needed.
- 49:33Is an insight about how he is. More knowledgeable, more caring,
- 49:39more present, more aware than anyone, you know, anyone you
- 49:45know. You might have a mom who adores.
- 49:48You. It might have a father who
- 49:51provides for you. You might have siblings who will
- 49:53die for you. You might have friends who make
- 49:56so many promises to be there for you.
- 49:58You might have a pastor who supports you but no one like
- 50:02Jesus. They all missed it.
- 50:08He didn't. You see Christ, what he does
- 50:11here. Is it brings to the attention of
- 50:14the people, something that he knew that she needed that they
- 50:17didn't, and Christ does this in ways that I hope you would never
- 50:20be blind to. I think about even Elijah, how
- 50:24God tells him go to the east of the Jordan.
- 50:26And I have commanded the Ravens to feed you there.
- 50:30So, he goes in twice a day, the Ravens come and they provide him
- 50:33a meal. And notice when the Ravens come,
- 50:35they provided me exactly what he needed for that meal.
- 50:37He had no leftovers. So you have to trust that
- 50:40dinnertime a Ravens, going to come and the next day another
- 50:45Raven other Raven. And then from there, he tells
- 50:48him to go to Zarephath which was inside on and he says, go there
- 50:52for. I've commanded a widow to feed
- 50:54you there. God has all these instruments.
- 50:59All these vessels around us and whether you're aware of it or
- 51:02not, he moves through people through Providence because he's
- 51:06aware of what you need and he places it perfectly in your
- 51:10path. How the Lord knew how to take
- 51:15care of Elijah, how he knew how to take care of this woman.
- 51:17The Lord knows how to take care of you and me.
- 51:19Remember how it mention Grab ahold of one or two promises
- 51:23that you can tuck in here and from time to time, sharpen your
- 51:26memorization of it so that you be ready to face that fear that
- 51:30wants to viciously. Rip it out from you.
- 51:34Here's one to consider Isaiah 49:15.
- 51:38Can a woman forget her nursing child That she should have no
- 51:44compassion on the son of her womb, you know what the Lord is
- 51:47doing their, he's pointing to one of the strongest
- 51:50demonstrations of human love. A woman, a mother for her
- 51:55nursing child. That baby can't do anything in
- 51:57return for that mother. And yet there's something
- 52:00churning in her, there's something, keeping her up at
- 52:02night. There is no doubt in any part of
- 52:05who she is. That she will give 10 lives for
- 52:07that baby to survive another day.
- 52:11And the Lord points to that kind of love.
- 52:14And he says extreme in as high as that love is it is still
- 52:17subject to fail. It's possible.
- 52:21Even for a mother to forget on some level.
- 52:25And then he contrasts that love with his love my love as we read
- 52:30here. Even these may forget yet, I
- 52:32will not forget you, my love is not only stronger, it's
- 52:36Unbreakable It's constant. It doesn't have episodes, It's
- 52:45dependable. It's strong and it's something
- 52:49you can lean on and I don't get tired of it.
- 52:54A mother may know. Exhaustion, I do not sleep.
- 52:59A mother may burst out from time to time.
- 53:01What did I get myself into I don't.
- 53:12Even these may forget. Yet, I will not forget you.
- 53:18But secondly this command shows how practical God is.
- 53:21Does it not give her something to eat?
- 53:24Lord, you just raise her from the dead.
- 53:26Maybe you can also make a meal. All right, you can feel her
- 53:32belly. You, you filled her body with
- 53:33breath. You can feel her belly.
- 53:35Maybe you can make something appear before her on her lap
- 53:38before she even takes another step.
- 53:41But he doesn't do that. He did his part, he looks at the
- 53:44parents and he says, now make her something.
- 53:47God is very practical. And what you see here is that
- 53:51the power of Christ in our lives does not discourage us,
- 53:54discourage us from participating and making things happen.
- 53:59Let me put it this way. Not every situation in your life
- 54:03requires a miracle. God has expectations on you.
- 54:09He has instruction, he has wisdom, he has given us skills
- 54:12resources, and he expects us to plan and prepare accordingly for
- 54:17things to be accomplished. From time to time, he may allow
- 54:23us to face a situation like what gyrus face, so that we would
- 54:27have to call on him because there's nothing else we can do.
- 54:30And in those moments where only a miracle makes sense, Do not
- 54:38fear. Only believe.
- 54:41Let's pray. Even these may forget.
- 55:07Yet, I will not forget you. Father, help us believe in your
- 55:19personalized. Love for each person here.
- 55:29Help us. Not wait for a subjective surge
- 55:31of emotion. Help us, not look to events to
- 55:38qualify how you care for us. Like Jacob.
- 55:45May we be greatly acquainted with what you have said, already
- 55:49in your word. Help us believe your word.
- 56:02Lord, you know. The fears in this place, the
- 56:06unspoken fears. The fears that might be
- 56:11embarrassing to share about because they seem so silly and
- 56:15trivial. the Lord, as you showed with this young girl, You know.
- 56:27And you care. We love you for that.
- 56:33It's loading this very moment. We want to worship you. because
- 56:38as we leave this place and go and deal with the Affairs of
- 56:41life, As we go into our bank account and look at numbers that
- 56:47might not be the most favorable. Or a calendar and see things
- 56:53that are coming up. That might be overwhelming or
- 56:57going back to a home. That might seem anything but a
- 57:00home. Will might receive a report.
- 57:05I will rattle us to the Core. We just pray.
- 57:11That this word would not be forgotten.
- 57:16Help us ignore the Agents of fear in our lives.
- 57:21That don't believe fully what you're able to do.
- 57:26Mute every other voice. And magnify your own.
- 57:32And Lord in those moments. Where we feel lazy toward your
- 57:38word indifferent. Help us.
- 57:42God cultivate a familiarity so that we can be prepared.
- 57:48We sing to you because we are grateful to you.
- 57:51You deserve the glory. We love you Lord in Jesus name.
- 57:56Amen let's Stand Together.
