- 0:12Hello, friends, It's Sean. Here it is, Wednesday the 14th
- 0:17of May, and you have invited me in again so that we can continue
- 0:21to read a bit of God's word together.
- 0:23And I don't know about you, but I am just loving, loving Hebrews
- 0:27and loving the way that it is just building this argument for
- 0:31who Jesus is and all that he has done for us, which is really
- 0:35interesting, you know, because we live in this world where
- 0:38Christianity is so last decade, right?
- 0:42So uncool at the moment and the word Jesus is almost a dirty
- 0:47word. And if we if we are caught
- 0:49saying the word Jesus in front of people who are unbelievers,
- 0:53hey, look at us like what is wrong with you?
- 0:55Why would you believe in this archaic concept of this person
- 0:59who just brings about all of this religious baggage in their
- 1:02ears? So our challenge, my challenge
- 1:07and your challenge is to find ways that we can share Jesus and
- 1:10share his truth in a way that doesn't turn people off.
- 1:13But amazes people with the incredible love and all the
- 1:18amazing things that we're reading about as we keep on
- 1:20moving through Hebrews. He is this incredible,
- 1:24incredible part of our lives. Holy Spirit, give us wisdom so
- 1:28we know how to share your truth. Share Jesus with the world who
- 1:33desperately needs to hear him. Well, with that laid on the
- 1:38table, let's continue this journey friends, as we read
- 1:41together Hebrews chapter 4. God's promise of entering His
- 1:55rest still stands, so we ought to tremble with fear that some
- 2:00of you might fail to experience it.
- 2:03For this good news that God has prepared, this rest has been
- 2:07announced to us, just as it was to them.
- 2:11But it did them no good because they didn't share the faith of
- 2:14those who listen to God, For only we who believe can enter
- 2:18His rest. As for the others, God said in
- 2:23my anger I took an oath they will never enter my place of
- 2:27rest, even though this rest has been ready since He made the
- 2:31world. We know it is ready because of
- 2:34the place in the scriptures where it mentions the 7th day.
- 2:38On the 7th day God rested from all his work.
- 2:42But in the other passage, God said they will never enter my
- 2:46place of rest. So God's rest is there for
- 2:49people to enter. But those who first heard this
- 2:52good news failed to enter because they disobeyed God.
- 2:57So God said another time for entering his rest, and that time
- 3:01is today. God announced this through David
- 3:05much later in the words already quoted today.
- 3:09When you hear His voice, don't harden your hearts.
- 3:13Now if Joshua had succeeded in giving them this rest, God would
- 3:18not have spoken about another day of rest still to come.
- 3:21So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God.
- 3:26For all who have entered into God's rest have rested from
- 3:30their labours, just as God did after creating the world.
- 3:34So let us do our best to enter that rest.
- 3:38But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will
- 3:43fall. For the Word of God is alive and
- 3:47powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest
- 3:502 edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint
- 3:54and marrow. It exposes our innermost
- 3:57thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is
- 4:02hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed
- 4:06before His eyes, and He is the one to whom we are accountable.
- 4:13So then, since we have a great high priest who has entered
- 4:17heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we
- 4:22believe. This high Priest of ours
- 4:25understands our weaknesses, for he faced all the same testings
- 4:29we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the
- 4:35throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy
- 4:40and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
- 4:53Ah, Jesus, thank you for this rest that you offer us.
- 4:58We do not have to fight every day of our lives to achieve
- 5:02everything ourselves, but we can stop and we can rest in you,
- 5:07knowing that you have our eternal future, our eternal well
- 5:11being, the health of our souls already sorted in your firm
- 5:18hands, in your generous grasp, and that all we need do, as
- 5:22you've said, is come boldly to the throne on which you sit.
- 5:26And there when we come to you, you give us mercy and grace just
- 5:35when we need it most. Ah, Jesus, we come before your
- 5:40great throne, and we ask you for that grace, for that mercy to
- 5:46help us through today, to overcome the challenges that
- 5:50we'll face, no doubt, and the doubts that will spring up
- 5:54inside of us for sure. But to always claim our promise
- 6:00in you, that in you we will have enough grace and mercy for
- 6:05anything that we're going to face today.
- 6:07And we pray all of this in your wonderful name, Jesus, Amen.
