- 0:03Speaker 1: for a big trade meeting on Friday. This is the
- 0:06Speaker 1: future of investment in trade Partnership Ministerial meeting. Chile, Costa, Rica, Iceland, Malaysia, Morocco, Singapore, Switzerland,
- 0:13Speaker 1: all going to be the total twenty one small medium
- 0:16Speaker 1: trading countries where we be represented. Felicity Roxburgh is International
- 0:20Speaker 1: Business from executive director with US this morning. Felicity, good morning.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Good morning.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Is this a big deal?
- 0:27Speaker 2: This is a big deal for small countries. I mean
- 0:29Speaker 2: it may seem like an eclectic group we can read
- 0:32Speaker 2: out that list, but I think you know, we all
- 0:35Speaker 2: have something in common. We rely on global trade and
- 0:38Speaker 2: it's a really difficult time out there for a exporters,
- 0:41Speaker 2: So why not try to work together.
- 0:44Speaker 1: How well are we working with these countries as it is?
- 0:48Speaker 2: Well, this is a kind of a new mechanism and
- 0:51Speaker 2: it does things in a different way. So it's about
- 0:53Speaker 2: small countries deciding that they'll do something called pathfinding, which
- 0:58Speaker 2: in trade means they try or they innovate things and
- 1:01Speaker 2: if they work, then they try and attract other countries
- 1:05Speaker 2: to do the same things. But we do have some
- 1:07Speaker 2: of our best buds in this group as well. We've
- 1:09Speaker 2: got Singapore with whom we have a very strong trade relationship,
- 1:12Speaker 2: and the UAE is also another key partner for New Zealand.
- 1:16Speaker 1: How much of this is about routes that are already
- 1:19Speaker 1: existing or routes that we know regular trading routes that
- 1:22Speaker 1: we can sort of leverage off. I mean Costa Rica.
- 1:25Speaker 1: How much trade do we do with Costa Rica?
- 1:28Speaker 2: Yeah? I mean some of them are new, shall we
- 1:30Speaker 2: say new trade partners for US. I mean another one
- 1:33Speaker 2: is Rwanda Paraguay. So you know this this group is
- 1:38Speaker 2: not really just about market access. This group is about
- 1:42Speaker 2: focusing on some issues fly chains open, like tackling non
- 1:47Speaker 2: tariff barriers, doing paperless or digital trades. So this is
- 1:51Speaker 2: like having common certification within our markets. The idea being
- 1:56Speaker 2: that you know, we do have agency. We're not just defensive.
- 2:00Speaker 2: We don't just have defensive interest in this global environment.
- 2:03Speaker 2: We can work together as small countries.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Good stuff. Nice to have you on the show. Felicity
