- 0:52Noise. I'm going to talk about this.
- 0:53Stimming is where you have a self stimulatory behaviour which
- 0:57is basically a repetitive behaviour that autistic people.
- 0:59Find enjoyment out of. This could be rocking back in
- 1:02the voids. This could be humming a tune,
- 1:04humming a noise. It could be moving in a certain
- 1:07way. It could be flicking their
- 1:08fingers, flapping their hands. It could be many things.
- 1:11As long as I'm going to see people with.
- 1:12Autism kind of like. Move a pencil around over their
- 1:15eyes. This is again another factor of
- 1:17stimming. However, what we never talk
- 1:19about is the importance of white noise and streaming.
- 1:22Now, white noise is, if you don't know, it's kind of like
- 1:25that noise that the TV makes. When it's like fuzzy and grey.
- 1:28And that white noise when you hear it becomes repetitive, kind
- 1:32of like rain noise when it's raining outside and you get all
- 1:34relaxed and cosy, that's your mind stimming to the audio or
- 1:37the rain outside. So autistic individuals love to
- 1:40stem to white noise and rain noise and anything really that's
- 1:46that's it could be a buzzing of a tattoo gun that will help them
- 1:49self soothe because this is an, an emotional stem you're, you're
- 1:52emotionally connecting to that and it's repetitive, which gives
- 1:55you a feeling of security because.
- 1:58It's knowing what's happening next.
- 1:59You know that the rain noise is going to continue on because you
- 2:01know what the rain noise sounds like.
- 2:03You know the white noise sounds like.
- 2:04Fascinating. Nobody talks about this.
- 2:06It's, it's one of the biggest things that nobody talks about.
- 2:09The other thing about stimming is why do autistic people stim
- 2:13when they're happy and or they're scared?
- 2:16Because they are emotional deregulators.
- 2:19So people with autism tend to not be able to regulate their
- 2:23emotions, right. And the word emotion comes from
- 2:25something energy in motion. Now you feel energy and you want
- 2:29to put that energy into motion. Now a lot of people will have
- 2:32control over their emotions, their energy in motion, where
- 2:34they'll say I'm sad, so therefore I'm about to cry.
- 2:37Autistic individuals won't feel like that.
- 2:39They'll have all this energy and they have nowhere to put it.
- 2:41They have to put it into motion somehow.
- 2:42So it comes out in a stem, you know, flapping their hands,
- 2:44rocking back and forward, jumping up and down, not sitting
- 2:47still. Fascinating area.
- 2:48We never, never think about the energy in motion.
- 2:51And we also have never thought about white noise.
- 2:53Now I've just blown your own. Mind with a white?
