- 0:15days consecration, total consecration of Jesus through the
- 0:20Immaculate Heart of Mary so that our hearts
- 0:22can be lit on fire and we can
- 0:24be willing to pick up the sword of
- 0:27the Holy Face of Jesus and wield it
- 0:29in the world of spiritual battle raging all
- 0:31around us.
- 0:32I'm joined today by Father Carney, the priest

- 0:42share it with a friend, try to spread
- 0:43the message.
- 0:45Definitely leave us comments and subscribe.
- 0:48I find subscribing to be very helpful because
- 0:50then you'll get the alerts when the new
- 0:51content comes out.
- 0:53We'll begin by renewing our total consecration to
- 0:58Jesus through Mary with our prayer.
- 1:01I, Marco Sandoval, a repentant sinner, renew and
- 1:06ratify today in your hands, O Immaculate Mother,
- 1:10the vows of my baptism.
- 1:12I renounce Satan and resolve to follow Jesus
- 1:15Christ even more closely than before.
- 1:18Mary, I give you my heart.
- 1:20Please set it on fire with love for
- 1:23Jesus.
- 1:24Make it always attentive to his burning thirst
- 1:26for love and for souls.
- 1:28Keep my heart in your most pure heart
- 1:31that I may love Jesus and the members
- 1:33of his body with your own perfect love.
- 1:36Mary, I entrust myself totally to you, my
- 1:40body and soul, my goods, both interior and
- 1:43exterior, and even the value of all my
- 1:46good actions.
- 1:47Please make of me of all that I
- 1:49am and have whatever most pleases you.
- 1:53Let me be a fit instrument in your
- 1:54immaculate and merciful hands for bringing the greatest
- 1:58possible glory to God.
- 2:00If I fall, please lead me back to
- 2:02Jesus.
- 2:03Wash me in the blood and water that
- 2:05flow from his pure side and help me
- 2:08never to lose my trust in this fountain
- 2:10of love and mercy.
- 2:12With you, O Immaculate Mother, you who always
- 2:15do the will of God, I unite myself
- 2:18to the perfect consecration of Jesus as he
- 2:21offers himself in the Spirit to the Father
- 2:24for the life of the world.
- 2:26Amen.
- 2:27In the name of the Father and Son
- 2:28and Holy Ghost, Hail Mary, full of grace,
- 2:31the Lord is with thee.
- 2:32Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is
- 2:34the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
- 2:36Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us
- 2:38sinners, now and at the hour of our
- 2:40death.
- 2:40Amen.
- 2:41Our Lady, in the holy name of God,
- 2:43pray for us.
- 2:43St. Bridget, pray for us.
- 2:45All our patron saints and guardian angels, pray
- 2:47for us.
- 2:48In the name of the Father and Son,
- 2:49Holy Ghost, Amen.
- 2:51Well, I'm joined here by Father Carney, and
- 2:54we're gonna talk about his visit to Europe,
- 2:57England, France, and Ireland to preach on devotion
- 3:01to the Holy Face and other things.
- 3:05So, if you want to give me the
- 3:07thumbnail, because I don't always know what all
- 3:09you're up to.
- 3:11Yeah, so there was a donor that said,
- 3:15I'm gonna donate 1,200 pounds to get
- 3:19Father Carney to England.
- 3:21So, I knew that that was God's sign
- 3:23to get me to go there, and I
- 3:26thought, well, why don't I try to get
- 3:27Ireland hooked into this thing, too?
- 3:29Meanwhile, I said to my friends who, one
- 3:34of them speaks fluent French, why don't we
- 3:37also go to tours to meet the new
- 3:38director of the Archconfraternity of the Holy Face?
- 3:42So, it was a whirlwind tour.
- 3:45My body keeps telling me, quit punishing me.
- 3:48So, nonetheless, I did seven talks in five
- 3:52days in England, and I went to two
- 3:56oratories.
- 3:56One of them was the Brompton Oratory, and
- 3:59I got to see where St. Cardinal Newman
- 4:02was an oratorian, and I mounted the pulpit
- 4:06that he may have preached at, and I
- 4:08spoke for an hour to give the introductory
- 4:10talk on the devotion.
- 4:12And both of these oratory churches in England
- 4:17looked like you were going into Rome.
- 4:18The churches were so beautiful.
- 4:21So, then we went to France, and my
- 4:27French speakers keep training me how to say
- 4:30Father's name.
- 4:31I think I've missed it 30 times, but
- 4:34his name is Fr.
- 4:36Didier, and he is a holy priest.
- 4:42So, he thought that the Archconfraternity was going
- 4:47to come to a close, and he was
- 4:49going to be the last director, and the
- 4:53Archbishop wanted to change Venerable Léopold's house into
- 4:55a retirement house for priests.
- 4:58But the Vicar General of the Diocese said
- 5:01no, and so the Archbishop said, okay, then
- 5:05let's keep it in the hands of the
- 5:08Archconfraternity.
- 5:09So, that was a miracle, that we still
- 5:11have the flagship, we just need to pray
- 5:14that they start having their monthly meetings.
- 5:17And so, Father called a meeting with all
- 5:20of his volunteers, there were about eight, and
- 5:23his first question was, so Father, what is
- 5:26the secret of the Holy Face?
- 5:28So, I answered their questions and gave them
- 5:31some advice on things that seemed to be
- 5:34working with the way that we've been promoting
- 5:37it.
- 5:39Then, oh yeah, by the way, I got
- 5:42to go to my friend's castle in France.
- 5:47His family were the servants of the king,
- 5:50one of the kings of Ireland, and Prommel
- 5:51kicked them out of Ireland around the middle
- 5:55of the 1700s, and I got to say,
- 5:59well, the king of France, King Louis, gave
- 6:01them count noble status, and they bought a
- 6:05castle, and this castle has a chapel that
- 6:09predates the French Revolution.
- 6:12And this man has three blesseds, because during
- 6:16the French Revolution, some people were escaping, and
- 6:19they knocked on the castle door to see
- 6:21if they can have asylum, a place to
- 6:23rest, and his ancestors opened the door to
- 6:28them.
- 6:28But then, while they were there, they turned
- 6:30on them, and squealed on them.
- 6:34And so, they were martyred, and they've been
- 6:37declared, they've been beatified.
- 6:40And so, I got to say Mass there
- 6:41every day.
- 6:42And then finally, we went to Ireland, a
- 6:46country where my ancestors are from, and I
- 6:49work with Human Life International, and we went
- 6:52to four provinces of Ireland.
- 6:54I gave four talks.
- 6:56We went to Knock first, and we went
- 6:59to a small place, I can't remember the
- 7:01name, Dublin, and then we went up to
- 7:03Belfast.
- 7:03And when we were driving to Northern Ireland,
- 7:07I didn't, I never look at the schedule
- 7:08very much, because I'm always going, but I
- 7:12got a little history.
- 7:13When we crossed the border of Northern Ireland,
- 7:15Patrick told me, Patrick McChrystal, that, you see
- 7:19that mountain over there?
- 7:20That's where the Irish would have sharpshooters, and
- 7:24they would shoot at the British that were
- 7:25guarding the line.
- 7:27Because there's, as many people know, there's a
- 7:29big dispute in Northern Ireland with the Orange
- 7:31and the Green, and the Irish.
- 7:34So, Belfast was, I think, the greatest attendance,
- 7:39and that was my last night.
- 7:42And we, people gave donations for almost 400
- 7:46books on The Secret of the Holy Face.
- 7:50So, the message is getting out in the
- 7:52United Kingdom, and I hope to go back
- 7:56there.
- 7:57There was some priests that came, some Institute
- 8:00of the Christ the King priests, so maybe
- 8:02I'll get some invitations to do a deeper
- 8:04dive into doing missions, and also maybe some
- 8:09retreats on the interior life and the consecration
- 8:11to the Holy Face.
- 8:14Yeah, I don't know that I want to
- 8:16get into Knock right now yet, but I
- 8:19did, I was watching the video, a beautiful
- 8:24story, but one, one thing that I, my
- 8:26first takeaway from it is, he was saying
- 8:30that kind of the apparition of Knock was
- 8:33almost like, like God was pleased with Ireland
- 8:39because they had been persecuted for, like, 400
- 8:43years and kept the faith.
- 8:45And I listened to that, and I just
- 8:47think, we're so insignificant.
- 8:50The United States hasn't even been around for
- 8:52400 years, and yet Ireland not only has
- 8:55been around, but they persecuted for 400 years
- 8:59in their Catholic faith, to the point that,
- 9:01you know, it was a capital offense for
- 9:03a priest to say Mass, what he was
- 9:05saying.
- 9:05So, I just, I think that that's just
- 9:10kind of like, kind of push you aback.
- 9:14Sometimes I think, I have a tendency to
- 9:17do it, but as Americans we think, oh,
- 9:18we're, you know, we're doing all this, and
- 9:21we're making all this happen, and we're moving
- 9:23and shaking, and then you look over there,
- 9:26and you're like, we just, we're like toddlers
- 9:28over here, talking to the world like we
- 9:31know it all.
- 9:31Yeah, there were eight million Irish before the
- 9:35Black Plague, excuse me, the Black Famine in
- 9:381847, and there were only four hundred, four
- 9:42million left, half of them, and they were
- 9:47persecuted for their faith.
- 9:50So, Paul gave a great talk on that,
- 9:54and some of them were put into casket
- 9:56boats, because many of them died on the
- 10:01way to the United States of America.
- 10:04So, the Irish, they're fighters, and there's not
- 10:10many fighters left in Ireland, but I've met
- 10:12a remnant of them, and I hope that
- 10:15they will double and triple, quadruple, exponentially grow,
- 10:19and I think this devotion might help them
- 10:22to the Holy Face.
- 10:25There were, there is the only known at
- 10:29this time, confraternity of the Holy Face.
- 10:32It's still active.
- 10:33It was started in 1895, and there were
- 10:39800,000, 500 Irish who have signed up
- 10:43up to this year, and that's a big
- 10:47number, because in Tours from 1885, when St.
- 10:50Therese first signed up, to 1900, there were
- 10:53only 700,000, which may be more of
- 10:57what Ireland had in that same amount of
- 10:59time, but Tours, for the next century, only
- 11:04signed up 10 more thousand, so Ireland overtook
- 11:06them.
- 11:07And that shows you the faith that, out
- 11:10of 8 million Irish before, this was after
- 11:14the Black Famine, that it seems like, if
- 11:20there are only 4 million left, one-fourth
- 11:23of the Irish signed up to the confraternity
- 11:27of the Holy Face, which is aggregated to
- 11:29the arch-confraternity of the Holy Face.
- 11:31And so those of us that are Irish,
- 11:34here in the United States, I've learned how
- 11:36much our forefathers fought for the faith, and
- 11:42how much work they did to work on
- 11:45the railroads, to work in the beef-cutting
- 11:49factories, to give us the life that we
- 11:52have now.
- 11:53I mean, my ancestors that are, you know,
- 11:57one generation before me, they started Pizza Hut,
- 12:00they started a bank, and so you see
- 12:03what our Irish heritage has done, and this
- 12:05is an example for other foreigners, like the
- 12:08Hispanics who are coming, they're working in the
- 12:11ditches right now, but if they remain faithful
- 12:15to the Catholic Church, that makes them the
- 12:18best people, and if they keep working hard,
- 12:20they're gonna become like the Irish did, because
- 12:23America is the one last place, almost, in
- 12:26the world where freedom, you're allowed to reap
- 12:30the benefits of your hard work, but we're
- 12:34losing the faith in the world, and that's
- 12:35why I'm going on these missions.
- 12:37I was telling another podcaster a few days
- 12:41ago, yesterday, that who knows, maybe this is
- 12:44the last time I'm to see people face
- 12:46-to-face on these missions, because lockdown might
- 12:51not be the first time that will happen,
- 12:53so we need to cherish every moment that
- 12:56we have of the freedoms that we have.
- 12:58The freedom means to do what is right,
- 13:01not to do anything we want.
- 13:03Freedom isn't truly the license to do evil.
- 13:06Freedom is to do what is true and
- 13:07good and to follow the commandments.
- 13:11I think it's interesting that you went England
- 13:13and Ireland, so I'm not a perfect history
- 13:17buff, but I am reading a book right
- 13:19now about the Rosary, and it was talking
- 13:21about how the Rosary kind of went to
- 13:24England for safekeeping for a number of years,
- 13:26and the English really kept it alive, but
- 13:29then a lot of Ireland's persecution came from
- 13:33the English and the Protestant Reformation, so I'm
- 13:38just curious.
- 13:39I think, in my mind, I think you
- 13:42hear in kind of popular channels that the
- 13:46faith is dying in Europe.
- 13:48You know, you'll see stories where there's, like,
- 13:50beautiful churches that have been turned into, like,
- 13:53exercise facility or skateboard park, so I'm curious
- 13:58your perspective of being there, what you saw.
- 14:01Yeah, some people told me England was the
- 14:03most Catholic nation at one time, and then
- 14:08after Henry VIII, they turned on God and
- 14:12his church, and then the Father Greatest is
- 14:15the worst, and they wanted Ireland to do
- 14:20the same thing, and so there was some
- 14:23jealousy, I think, and so England persecuted the
- 14:27Irish, because the Irish kept to the faith.
- 14:30And St. Patrick, in my reading of history,
- 14:33came from England, and he converted Ireland.
- 14:37He helped to convert it, and because St.
- 14:41Patrick was so holy, that shows that Ireland
- 14:46has kept the faith so long, because he
- 14:49was one of the greatest apostles.
- 14:51He would pray all of 150 psalms every
- 14:55day, sometimes in cold water, up to his
- 14:57waist.
- 14:58That gives me the chills, but that was
- 15:00St. Patrick.
- 15:01He had the faith, and I keep asking
- 15:03St. Patrick, I chose you for my confirmation,
- 15:06saying, help me to become like you, you
- 15:10know?
- 15:11That'd be awesome.
- 15:12Yeah, that was something that came out, and
- 15:16just kind of reading your trip a little
- 15:19bit, was there, you know, obviously the love
- 15:21of St. Patrick.
- 15:23There are things that, I mean, my birthday's
- 15:25in March, so it's always right around St.
- 15:27Patrick's Day.
- 15:28I'm not Irish, so what it tends to
- 15:30be is a little bit annoying for me,
- 15:31because they're always having the St. Patrick's Day,
- 15:34all the drinking, and all the carrying on,
- 15:37and one of the guys in the talks
- 15:39was talking about how the world's kind of
- 15:41turned St. Patrick into, like, a drunken Paddy's
- 15:45Fest, and it's infuriating for him.
- 15:48But that going out and evangelizing, how much
- 15:55evangelizing Ireland has done for such a small
- 15:59country, whether it be kind of immigration as
- 16:02part of the famine coming into the United
- 16:04States, how many St. Patrick's Cathedrals there are
- 16:06around the world.
- 16:07They brought up Nigeria.
- 16:09I guess a lot of Nigeria had been
- 16:11evangelized by the Irish, so it is an
- 16:15interesting story, that interplay.
- 16:18I am curious a little bit more just
- 16:21about England, you know, what I know that,
- 16:26you know, they've said that Ireland's demise, the
- 16:30Catholic faith's demise in Ireland's greatly overstated, is
- 16:33what one of the guys was saying, but
- 16:36what do you find in England?
- 16:38Was there pockets of warmth there?
- 16:40Was it...
- 16:41It's a cold nation as far as Christianity
- 16:43and Christendom is concerned.
- 16:46I've always had issues with going past customs
- 16:50to get into England.
- 16:53One time I was on a ferry from
- 16:55France to England, and the customs agent, well,
- 17:00he gave me a warning and a threat
- 17:04that, we might not let you in.
- 17:06You're gonna have to stay in this room
- 17:08for a while, and I finally found my
- 17:10airline tickets that show I was gonna be
- 17:12leaving England, and then he finally let me
- 17:15go.
- 17:16But that was 15 years ago, before I
- 17:18was really savvy with the Internet.
- 17:20And this time, too, I had to do
- 17:23an ETA, so I had to do all
- 17:25kinds of screening before I even could check
- 17:27in to my flight from Wichita.
- 17:29So I don't have too many warm feelings
- 17:33about England, but there's some really good English
- 17:36there.
- 17:37I met some of the greatest priests in
- 17:39England, and there's some pockets of the English,
- 17:43especially those that rally around the traditional Latin
- 17:48Mass, and these Oratorian priests, they're awesome.
- 17:53I saw them wearing their cassocks and wearing
- 17:55a beretta, walking around the courtyard, and they
- 17:58let me come and talk to their people.
- 18:02It was neat, on one night at the
- 18:04Oratory, the priests set up 60 chairs, but
- 18:08there were over 120 people that showed up,
- 18:10and it was like a mob to get
- 18:13to my chair so I could sign books.
- 18:15They wouldn't, there wasn't enough room.
- 18:17So that was in London, and it wasn't
- 18:21so many English people coming, it was foreigners
- 18:24that came to that talk.
- 18:27And it was sort of like I Hope
- 18:30Heaven Will Be, where I just met all
- 18:34these people that knew me because I give
- 18:36these podcasts, and they wanted to see me
- 18:40in person.
- 18:42And I just tell people that one of
- 18:45my first publishers said, it's no big deal
- 18:48to be an author, all you do is
- 18:49write a few words, but once you get
- 18:51into a Perfect Bound book, people think you're
- 18:53awesome, but you're not.
- 18:55And she's right.
- 18:55I'm just a priest, just doing the bidding
- 18:59of what God wants me to do, and
- 19:02if we can be faithful to the plan
- 19:05that God has for each of us, then
- 19:08he can transform our life into a beautiful
- 19:11life.
- 19:13And that's why I keep going back to
- 19:15Carmel, the devotion to the Holy Face came
- 19:18to Carmel, and Carmel is about the interior
- 19:22life, and I think this devotion has really
- 19:26helped me to desire the interior life and
- 19:29to grow in it.
- 19:29And I'm learning a lot about it, but
- 19:31I have to practice what I've learned.
- 19:33It's one thing to write about the interior
- 19:34life, it's another thing to actually go through
- 19:37the stages.
- 19:39So maybe that's why I keep asking people
- 19:42to pray for me, so I can do
- 19:43that.
- 19:45Yeah, I think the gentleman I watched said
- 19:48something about it, but I was reading in
- 19:50this rosary book I'm reading, and it was
- 19:51called England Our Lady's Dowry.
- 19:54That's right.
- 19:55Well, do you know where that comes from?
- 19:57I don't off the top of my head,
- 19:59but that's a very interesting title for a
- 20:02country to have, and I would hope and
- 20:04pray that the people would relearn that.
- 20:09That's a precious title.
- 20:12Yeah, it's...
- 20:13I had jet lag when they were explaining
- 20:15it to me, I still don't understand the
- 20:18concept of the dowry, but they were telling
- 20:21me that it has something to do with
- 20:24the future of England.
- 20:27When England comes back to the faith, then
- 20:31they will be like a superstar Catholic nation,
- 20:35something like that, and Our Lady's Dowry, I
- 20:38think Our Lady and her Immaculate Heart triumphing,
- 20:45and her role in the conversion of the
- 20:48Jews is reserved for her, and that will
- 20:51show her greatest glory of time.
- 20:53And so England will have a dowry, because
- 20:56it was the most Catholic nation at one
- 20:58time, where I think England will help Our
- 21:02Lady's mission.
- 21:03I think that's kind of what they were
- 21:04talking about, which is an awesome thing for
- 21:08English, because the faith was so strong in
- 21:13the fifth, sixth, and seventh centuries, and so
- 21:16they have that heritage.
- 21:17I was walking around, I think it was
- 21:21London, yeah it was London, and Mary Clare
- 21:26was her name, and I said, Mary Clare,
- 21:28you all have this history.
- 21:30When I walk around in America, we just
- 21:32have the Indians that were here.
- 21:33There's no kind of history that dates back
- 21:37to the 4th, 5th, and 6th centuries like
- 21:40you have.
- 21:41I mean, there was a nun by locating
- 21:44here around the 1500s, I think it was,
- 21:51Venerable Mary Begreta, and she was teaching the
- 21:52Indians.
- 21:53So yeah, that's good history, but we don't
- 21:56have it going back another thousand years like
- 21:59England does.
- 22:01Yeah, just you saying, you're walking around and
- 22:04you're in these cathedrals and they're beautiful, like
- 22:07breathtakingly beautiful.
- 22:09It's few and far between here that you
- 22:11walk into a place that's breathtakingly beautiful.
- 22:14I mean, you take note, because the buildings
- 22:17are unique, our architecture is just so, yeah,
- 22:21it's just not, you know, I was just
- 22:24having this conversation, I took my daughters on
- 22:26a college visit recently, and I wanted to
- 22:29be an architect when I was coming of
- 22:32age, and I was just looking at all
- 22:34the buildings and just thinking, man, it would
- 22:36be, might not be the best thing to
- 22:38be an architect in these times, because what
- 22:40would you build?
- 22:41Just a bunch of boxes, you know.
- 22:43We've kind of lost that beauty in the
- 22:45buildings.
- 22:47Well, if we may transition to France now,
- 22:50unless you had anything else you wanted to
- 22:52share about England.
- 22:54Yeah, I mean, France, I've talked about how
- 22:57I went to that castle and I met...
- 22:59That's what I'm most interested in, the nobility,
- 23:01because I know you're kind of, we're hitting
- 23:03on the importance of nobility and that castle,
- 23:06and so I just want to know.
- 23:07It's a foreign term, I think, in the
- 23:08U.S. Yeah, nobility just, it has a
- 23:12lot of definitions.
- 23:13One of them, basically though, is just to
- 23:15serve God for His goodness and His beauty
- 23:19and because of His truth, and not to
- 23:21get anything out of it.
- 23:23And so true nobilities that lived that, God
- 23:27would put them into a higher class and
- 23:30they would have wealth, and then they would
- 23:31use that to build Christendom, and the nobles
- 23:36and the kings and the queens, they would
- 23:39build monasteries and cathedrals and churches, so that
- 23:42the lower class, who were poor, who would
- 23:46get very tired of their dwellings, would go
- 23:48to the cathedral and to be reminded, wow,
- 23:51this is a reminder of what we're driving
- 23:54for, because heaven will be not, would be
- 23:57much more beautiful than this church, but it
- 23:58gives them that idea.
- 24:00So I want to tell you a story.
- 24:03When we were driving through Ireland, they pointed,
- 24:07it was one of those days, cloudy, rainy,
- 24:09just typical for Ireland.
- 24:11We've had our fill of tea and milk,
- 24:15and they said, that, Father, that castle, that
- 24:20was the High King of Ireland's castle.
- 24:22I said, oh, that is awesome to see
- 24:24that.
- 24:25And it made me think that the holy
- 24:29face of Jesus is uniting the clans through
- 24:32this devotion, not just human beings wanting to
- 24:36make uniting of the clans in their own
- 24:38terms, but I think he's doing that, because
- 24:42my friends that were kicked out of Ireland
- 24:44and had a castle and a chapel in
- 24:48France, they were working with me.
- 24:51They drove me around England and France, but
- 24:53they couldn't, they didn't have time to come
- 24:55to Ireland.
- 24:56They want to take me around Ireland next
- 24:58time.
- 24:58But I was working with a noble, and
- 25:01I had to go to the castle to
- 25:03discover that, and so I think that Jesus
- 25:06is trying to unite the nobles, to give
- 25:11the grace back to the aristocracy, to become
- 25:15noble in the times that we live in.
- 25:17If we go through a world revolution, I
- 25:21think through that they will be purified, and
- 25:24they will then become noble again, and serve
- 25:27the Christendom as they served in the past
- 25:30their ancestors.
- 25:31But also, it gives us hope, for those
- 25:34of us that aren't nobles, that if we
- 25:36go through a deep persecution, I think that
- 25:39this devotion to the Holy Face is going
- 25:41to raise a lot of people up to
- 25:42become nobles, even though their family doesn't have
- 25:46a history of that, because they will simply
- 25:49serve Christ the King to promote his goodness,
- 25:56his beauty, and his truth.
- 25:58And wouldn't it be great if every nation,
- 26:01its civil government, would be a Catholic government,
- 26:05led by benevolent kings like King Edward III
- 26:08and King St. Louis IX.
- 26:13The best form of government, the priests would
- 26:16tell me, Father Ivan Eck, who's a priest,
- 26:20a diocesan priest here of Wichita, he's a
- 26:23Monsignor, and he's over 100 years old, he
- 26:25said, the best form of government, what we
- 26:27were taught, was a benevolent kingdom.
- 26:30So a really good king.
- 26:31If you get a bad king, it's horrible.
- 26:33But in that triumph of the American heart,
- 26:36however long that age will be, maybe it's
- 26:39just a generation or two, that will be
- 26:42a great, a rising time for Christendom, or
- 26:45a Neo-Christendom.
- 26:47So maybe the thought, or the Holy Face
- 26:51of Jesus is united in the clans through
- 26:53this devotion.
- 26:54So those are just some thoughts that I
- 26:56had, just going and seeing this high king's
- 27:01castle, and being over here in France with
- 27:03this castle, where this family was thrown out
- 27:07of Ireland, thrown out of their home country,
- 27:11where they served the King of Ireland, because
- 27:13they were Catholic, they didn't give in to
- 27:16the English.
- 27:18That's interesting, I know probably a lot of
- 27:21Americans would hear that nobility and recoil from
- 27:23it, especially King, you know, King recoil from
- 27:27it, because that's just not our mindset.
- 27:30But I love the way you put it,
- 27:31that's very interesting to me, that nobles were
- 27:34serving Christ the King, that was their sole
- 27:38focus.
- 27:39Yeah, on these processions, they have these protesters
- 27:43and they say, no king, no king.
- 27:45One time I was, I usually don't get
- 27:48off of the script of Prayer and the
- 27:50Rosary, but I just said, quietly, although the
- 27:55microphone was on, Christ is the king.
- 27:58Christ is the king.
- 28:02There is a king.
- 28:03No king, there is a king.
- 28:06Christ is our king.
- 28:07Mm-hmm.
- 28:08And that's nobility.
- 28:10He chose to make himself called a king,
- 28:13and so kings have nobles who serve the
- 28:17king, and nobles are served by the serfs
- 28:22and the common people.
- 28:24And so there's a hierarchy in civilization, just
- 28:28like there's a hierarchy in the choirs of
- 28:30angels, there's a hierarchy in heaven, there's a
- 28:32hierarchy in the dog kingdom.
- 28:34This is natural law, and if we follow
- 28:37natural law, it's going to make us happy.
- 28:40So simple.
- 28:42It is.
- 28:43It is.
- 28:46Let's see here, I was just gonna also
- 28:48talk about, I, they said that in Ireland,
- 28:52because the people were largely illiterate, that their
- 28:56Bible was the Rosary.
- 28:58I'm kind of on this Rosary kick, but
- 29:00that just was striking to me, that they
- 29:05were very, very devoted to the Rosary because
- 29:08it was essentially their Bible.
- 29:10And it also seems odd to me, too,
- 29:13because Irish literature and poetry, I mean, they're
- 29:17so, you know, Ireland and Irish writers are
- 29:23so prominent in those spaces.
- 29:25I think my wife got me a book
- 29:26of Catholic poetry a couple years ago, and
- 29:29I read it, and many of the poems
- 29:32and the most beautiful poems were of Irish.
- 29:36So I just thought that that was kind
- 29:38of a unique thing, and so that kind
- 29:40of ties in with Our Lady of Knock.
- 29:44So beautiful to me, I thought, how Our
- 29:47Lady has a crown with a rose featured
- 29:50in the crown, and they were talking about
- 29:54how it was a Eucharistic apparition.
- 29:57So the presence of Our Lady, St. Joseph,
- 30:01John, and Jesus in the image of the
- 30:05Lamb, slain Lamb.
- 30:07I just thought that was pretty interesting.
- 30:10I don't know if you had any...
- 30:11Yeah, the rose represented the Rosary on her
- 30:14crown, and the famine of Ireland wasn't really
- 30:20a drought or a blight as much as
- 30:24it was the English persecuting the Irish.
- 30:27They were shipping out grains during the famine.
- 30:32The English were shipping it out, and the
- 30:35English had non-resident tenant owners, so they
- 30:41probably lived in England, and the Irish weren't
- 30:45allowed to own their land, more or less,
- 30:48and so it was really a big persecution.
- 30:51And so that's why they became illiterate, because
- 30:53they were so poor.
- 30:55And when I went looking for my ancestors,
- 30:57the Kearney clan, I think we went to
- 31:00the wrong cemetery.
- 31:02We were 12 miles off, but he took
- 31:04me back.
- 31:05He was an archivist, and he said, back
- 31:08in this grave is where the poor were,
- 31:10and I saw their tombstones, there was no
- 31:14writing, because the Irish wouldn't even know how
- 31:19to read it, and they couldn't afford to
- 31:21pay for it.
- 31:21And so it was the shape of the
- 31:23stone that determined who was there, and that
- 31:26was their memory.
- 31:27Their memory was so much better than it
- 31:29is today, of course.
- 31:31So they were illiterate because of the being
- 31:35persecuted by the non-Catholics.
- 31:40So there's something to be said about how
- 31:43much they did suffer, but they kept the
- 31:46faith.
- 31:47And the thing about Knock, I need to
- 31:50learn a lot more about it.
- 31:51I've only listened to one podcast, but what
- 31:55I think is neat is that St. John
- 31:58was one of the people who appeared, and
- 32:04he's wearing a mitre, and he's got his
- 32:07gospel, and his feet show that he's moving.
- 32:12And he's a powerful, not just a teenager
- 32:14when he was at the foot of the
- 32:15cross, he's a powerful apostle.
- 32:18And there's so many things you could look
- 32:20at, but what this man Paul was saying
- 32:23is, he had the interior life, and that's
- 32:28what's gotten Ireland to keep their faith, is
- 32:30their rosaries.
- 32:32Even though they were illiterate, the rosary was
- 32:36something that helped them to be reminded of
- 32:39the 15 Mysteries.
- 32:40And so they would pray that rosary and
- 32:43have that interior life, and that's why the
- 32:45rose appeared.
- 32:47So they would—I love how the Irish, though,
- 32:50would say how that we prayed our rosaries,
- 32:53and they have their almost Gaelic- sounding
- 32:56Irish scent, accent of English, and they just
- 33:03were tenacious, the Irish.
- 33:06So going there and seeing that history is
- 33:10very endearing to me.
- 33:14I love how you say that the clans
- 33:16are being united through this devotion.
- 33:20I love the sound of that, tenacious men
- 33:23praying their rosary.
- 33:25You know, that sounds like a clan I
- 33:28would love to be united with.
- 33:30Well, I'm going to all the Anglo-speakings
- 33:33in places in the world.
- 33:36Australia, there's uniting of some clans, even in
- 33:38Quito, Ecuador they're starting, and Ireland definitely has
- 33:43that uniting, and the French, and the English,
- 33:46and I haven't been to Western Africa where
- 33:49they speak English yet, but some people are
- 33:50talking about me going there, so I've never
- 33:52been to that continent of Africa.
- 33:56So the uniting of the clans isn't just
- 33:58for English-speaking people either.
- 34:00I pray that priests that have different languages
- 34:03will promote the devotion to the Holy Face
- 34:07like I am, in their own language, and
- 34:11in their own gifts, to be utilized by
- 34:14God the Father to preach about this, and
- 34:19if they're diocesan priests, all the better, because
- 34:21we haven't been trained to be preachers.
- 34:24We've been trained to give out the sacraments,
- 34:26so it's kind of a spectacle for a
- 34:31diocesan priest to be asked to be a
- 34:34missionary and a preacher, and I think it's
- 34:37because God just chooses the weakest to confound
- 34:39the wisdom of the world.
- 34:41I tell people, I don't know if I've
- 34:42told it on these podcasts, what did I
- 34:45fear the most in grade school?
- 34:48English.
- 34:49What did I fear the most in high
- 34:51school?
- 34:51Public speaking, and now that's what I do.
- 34:53And my spiritual director said the devil knew
- 34:57that was going to be a strength that
- 34:59would attack his kingdom, so that should encourage
- 35:03all you priests that whatever your weakness is,
- 35:07that can actually be transformed into your strength.
- 35:10That's what this devotion has done for me,
- 35:13because devotions help to make us more tender
- 35:16towards God and His Church, and so when
- 35:18we become tender to the calling that God
- 35:21has put into us in our baptism, in
- 35:23our confirmation, in our ordination to the priesthood,
- 35:26if we can see those gifts that He's
- 35:29put in there and pull them out, and
- 35:31ask God to pull them out, then we
- 35:34can confound the wisdom of the world.
- 35:37With things that don't look like gifts when
- 35:40we're growing up can be transformed into gifts,
- 35:42because God is so powerful.
- 35:44That's why He chooses the weakest of the
- 35:47world to confound the wise of the world.
- 35:50Yeah, when you were speaking right there, I
- 35:53was thinking of Moses, because they called Moses
- 35:57the meekest of all men, and he was
- 36:00not a speaker.
- 36:01That's why he wanted Aaron.
- 36:02Aaron did most of the speaking, and so
- 36:04meekness, and I know you have a book
- 36:07coming on meekness, and you often say that
- 36:11you think meekness will form the heel of
- 36:13Mary to crush a serpent's head, so we're
- 36:15talking about this apparition of Mary, we're talking
- 36:19about the fighting Irish and meekness, I just
- 36:21think it all kind of wraps in nicely,
- 36:24if you want to say a few words
- 36:26about meekness in your book.
- 36:28Yeah, I mean, one priest told me recently,
- 36:33it seems like so many Catholics are just
- 36:35overly angry.
- 36:37There's such an inordinate anger.
- 36:39Yes, there's a lot of things going wrong
- 36:41in the world and in the Church, but
- 36:44just being emotional about it and having it
- 36:47over anger, it's not virtuous.
- 36:52So meekness curves inordinate anger, and it's actually
- 36:57a command of Jesus.
- 36:59Be meek and humble of heart.
- 37:02When someone tells you to be me, to
- 37:04be, that sounds like a command to me.
- 37:07So I think that those Catholics, they're getting
- 37:12beat up by everyone that's beating us up,
- 37:16if we can not let our anger be
- 37:19too much or too little.
- 37:22I think some people think, oh, I'm not
- 37:23angry enough, so I got to get really
- 37:25angry to make this thing better.
- 37:28But it has to be meekness, and it's
- 37:33the middle of the road, it keeps you
- 37:36going.
- 37:37And so I think that this book that
- 37:39I've wrote on meekness, it will be coming
- 37:41out October the 20th through Sophia Press, that
- 37:47it's another lesson for us who have consecrated
- 37:51ourselves totally to the Blessed Virgin Mary, to
- 37:55Jesus through Mary, with the French School, with
- 37:58St. Louis de Montfort, that we might fulfill
- 38:03something that was said in Genesis 315, the
- 38:07first three chapters of the Bible.
- 38:10And I like the Douay Rheims version, because
- 38:12I think it's the most powerful.
- 38:15She will lie in wait to crush your
- 38:17head, and so with her heel.
- 38:21And I think that we can become like
- 38:24the sandal or like the heel of Mary,
- 38:26because we have to be humble.
- 38:28Like, a shoe is humble.
- 38:30It's the lowest thing, and it's getting pounded
- 38:32onto the ground, and the ground is hummus,
- 38:35humility, we're humans.
- 38:37So having that meekness and humility, they go
- 38:41together.
- 38:42We don't talk about meekness very much, and
- 38:46so that's why my publishers have called it
- 38:49The Forgotten Virtue.
- 38:52Why meekness may be the secret weapon in
- 38:55the interior life and in the spiritual battles
- 38:57of the future.
- 38:59I mean, that's not the whole subtitle, it's...
- 39:02I'm just adding to it.
- 39:05So I hope that...
- 39:07I didn't even know that people would be
- 39:09getting so angry.
- 39:10There's so many people getting angry and becoming
- 39:13excommunicated because of their anger by the Pope,
- 39:17saying that there is no Pope, saying, we
- 39:19believe in the Pope, but then we don't
- 39:20follow, we don't obey.
- 39:22And there's even some priests that want me
- 39:26to write a forward to a book that
- 39:29will explain the situation with the Society of
- 39:32St. Pius X.
- 39:34So I think this is a time for
- 39:38meekness.
- 39:39So it's no coincidence that that book's coming
- 39:41out now, as people seem to be getting
- 39:44more and more angry in the world.
- 39:46I could definitely relate to that.
- 39:49Frustration, maybe frustration more than anger for me
- 39:52personally, but that's one of the reasons that
- 39:55I gravitated to this devotion, because I feel
- 39:58like, okay, here's something I can do.
- 40:00I feel like I'm doing something when I
- 40:02pray those prayers.
- 40:03They feel...
- 40:04I mean, I heard you say somebody told
- 40:06you that how masculine and manly these prayers
- 40:09are, and you were talking about some of
- 40:10the masses that are part of the old
- 40:13rite, the crown of thorns, and I'm listening
- 40:17to that.
- 40:18I would love to be a part of
- 40:20those masses.
- 40:21The nails, the spear, just...
- 40:26it's spiritual warfare, it's spiritual battle.
- 40:29You know, our struggle isn't against flesh and
- 40:33blood, right?
- 40:34We need people like you to hold up
- 40:37the arms of the priest, you know, and
- 40:39Moses and Aaron were holding up their arms,
- 40:42they were victorious as a nation of Israel
- 40:44over their enemies, but when they went down,
- 40:47then God wasn't interceding and they were losing.
- 40:50And so, mystically, you're becoming part of holding
- 40:55up us priest arms, and, you know, backing
- 40:58us up when the world is so against
- 40:59us, because the devil hates us priests, because
- 41:02the priest is the most powerful man in
- 41:04the world.
- 41:04Let's face it, we say some words and
- 41:08God comes on to an altar.
- 41:11What more do you need to explain how
- 41:13powerful we are?
- 41:15And in the hidden world, the veil, the
- 41:17devil cannot stand us.
- 41:19So we need men to hold up our
- 41:22arms, mystically, to back us up, to put
- 41:27an insulation between us and the revolution, because
- 41:31when the revolution, if it comes, then the
- 41:34priests are going to be able to provide
- 41:36the body of Christ, to help people to
- 41:40have the strength to get through whatever chastisement
- 41:43may be coming.
- 41:46Yeah, I just think that's a...of course, you
- 41:49know, how wonderful God is.
- 41:53He demonstrates meekness and humility and obedience, just
- 41:59in that very fact, that He's willing to
- 42:01come down, you know, as part of the
- 42:05priest calling Him down, you know.
- 42:09Doesn't really matter whether it's a good priest,
- 42:13a not-so-good priest, He still comes.
- 42:15Yeah, He still comes.
- 42:17So, beautiful.
- 42:20Lastly, I just thought we'd talk about the
- 42:22Holy Face Conference that's coming up here in
- 42:25November 15th, and maybe...
- 42:2811th.
- 42:29Yeah, November 11th, right.
- 42:32If you wanted to say a few words
- 42:33about what kind of, what the layout of
- 42:36that is, and...
- 42:37Yeah, sure.
- 42:38So, what was that called?
- 42:41The fourth?
- 42:41Four o'clock?
- 42:43Yeah, about four o'clock podcast.
- 42:45About four o'clock podcast.
- 42:47So the priests that run the seminary, now
- 42:53it's called a seminary.
- 42:55Father Chad is now called the rector, and
- 42:59so three of them did a podcast with
- 43:01me, and they said, they live at St.
- 43:04Joseph.
- 43:05They said, you know, Father Kearney, around November
- 43:07there's all these people that come walking around
- 43:09in processions, we don't know what's going on.
- 43:11So I finally answered all their questions, and
- 43:15so I hope that we can get some
- 43:18people from Wichita to start coming now.
- 43:21Some do, but a lot of people fly
- 43:23in to this conference, and it's November 11
- 43:27and 12, and we have a Solemn High
- 43:28Mass every day.
- 43:30We have Psalm Vespers, and we have Father
- 43:32Eric Anderson, who's a wonderful Diocesan priest, who's
- 43:36going to talk about a holy bishop, maybe
- 43:40intertwined it into the Holy Face devotion, and
- 43:42I'll give a couple talks on that Holy
- 43:46Face devotion.
- 43:47But the meals are provided, I think it's
- 43:50145 bucks for a person to come, and
- 43:55usually by this time of the year we
- 43:56have 150 signed up, but we're only at
- 43:5890, and I think it's because the economy,
- 44:02and also it's on a Wednesday and a
- 44:04Thursday.
- 44:06It's from 8 in the morning or so
- 44:09till about 5.
- 44:11So if any of you just need to
- 44:14do a retreat at home, or maybe people
- 44:17are hearing this and can fly in, we'd
- 44:21love to have you register.
- 44:23You can register going to the League of
- 44:24St. Martin, and just pay the donation, and
- 44:30you'll get two meals a day, and you
- 44:33get to go to two Solemn High Masses
- 44:35every day.
- 44:36That's a deacon, I mean, a celebrant, a
- 44:38deacon, and a subdeacon, and so these are
- 44:42rare, these Solemn High Masses.
- 44:45And so we adore God with the highest
- 44:49form of the Mass that we can do,
- 44:52giving him all this glory and honor, and
- 44:54we hope someday a bishop will come, and
- 44:56we can have a Solemn Pontifical High Mass.
- 45:00And that would be amazing, because you need
- 45:0317 or so ministers to have a Pontifical
- 45:06High Mass.
- 45:08So there would be an archpriest, and there
- 45:11would be two deacons and two subdeacons, and
- 45:13all the minor ministers that go, it's just
- 45:17beautiful stuff.
- 45:19So at the Holy Face Conference, we want
- 45:23to give God great adoration, because he is
- 45:28infinitely good and beautiful and true.
- 45:32And hopefully we'll all go to heaven someday,
- 45:35but we can't just get there by death,
- 45:37we got to be in a state of
- 45:38grace when we die, have no mortal sin
- 45:39on our soul.
- 45:40But those of us that will go to
- 45:42heaven, please God, me and you are all
- 45:44included, we'll be worshiping God and adoring him
- 45:46forever.
- 45:47So this is a dress rehearsal, it's a
- 45:50it's a practice session that we can do
- 45:54it, so please come to this Holy Face
- 46:03Conference, November 11th through 12th.
- 46:06That's one of my favorite episodes of About
- 46:08Four O'Clock, because that's how I got
- 46:10to know you.
- 46:11I listened to that episode and I immediately
- 46:14sent an email to Father Carney, I'm like,
- 46:16can I know more?
- 46:17Can I get involved?
- 46:19So that was wonderful.
- 46:20I thought it was funny they thought all
- 46:21that hubbub was for your birthday.
- 46:25No, I'm signed up, I'm super excited, I've
- 46:28never been before.
- 46:29There's more to it, walking rosary, these are
- 46:32all things that I procession.
- 46:35I've just seen a picture of the procession
- 46:37and it just looks beautiful with more priests
- 46:40and more statues, it looks like, you know,
- 46:44the procession that we do, just with more
- 46:47more people involved.
- 46:49So I'm very excited and, you know, often
- 46:52I feel like people are intimidated by the
- 46:54Latin and the Latin Mass now for about,
- 46:59it's probably been like three months, I guess.
- 47:02Didn't know anything about it, still don't really
- 47:04know a lot about it, but what I
- 47:06walk away from it, like my witness of
- 47:08it, is I just love the silence.
- 47:10It kind of brings us back to the
- 47:12apparition at Knock, but one of the striking
- 47:14things is that it was a silent apparition,
- 47:17nothing was said.
- 47:19And so it's kind of reflecting on the
- 47:21Eucharistic adoration, but what I find I love
- 47:24most about the Latin Mass is just praying
- 47:26my rosary and just the reverence.
- 47:29It puts, I feel like I'm placed in
- 47:31a state of reverence where you're just watching
- 47:34and, you know, maybe even more reverence for
- 47:39the priest's role, as you were talking about
- 47:42earlier, about the priest being the most powerful
- 47:44man in the world because he he's been
- 47:47given the gift to call God down onto
- 47:49the altar.
- 47:50And so in that Mass I just find
- 47:53that it's, you're stepping in the space of
- 47:57reverence, and so it just does a little
- 48:00something different with your heart.
- 48:02So don't, definitely do not be afraid of
- 48:06the Latin Mass.
- 48:07You can take it from a newbie who
- 48:09doesn't know the words and doesn't always know
- 48:11what's going on, and just kind of soaking
- 48:13in the silence of it, and the Latin.
- 48:17Latin's beautiful.
- 48:19All right, I think that's all I have
- 48:21for today.
- 48:22We can call it a wrap.
- 48:24All right, very good.
