Weekly Dose of Fat, show number 81 for Friday, November 20th, 2015.
• 0:06
[upbeat rock music] There is an eighth dimension beyond which that is known to man.
• 0:28
It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity.
• 0:32
It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's beard and the summit of his bunny hop. This is the dimension of Fat Bike Radio.
• 0:44
It is an area which we call the Weekly Dose of Fat. Please welcome to the host for tonight's discussion, Sven and Gomez. Welcome to the show, everybody. Hello. It is I, Tuyo Gomez.
• 0:59
Tonight we pair fat bikes with the seven dwarves. And porn names with prizes. And now, boys and girls, moms and dads, children of all ages, it's our pleasure to introduce the esteemed, the punkadelic, Mr. J.K. 11.
• 1:15
Let's get it on. So before the show, we chose this week's secret word from a slew of porn star names that we shared on last week's show. Call in and take a guess and you could end up winning a fabulous prize. Eh. Eh.
• 1:33
[laughs] Fat Bike Radio and the Weekly Dose of Fat is sponsored by Surly Bikes. This week's show is sponsored by The Boss 327 Surly Posely. Learn more at surlybikes.com. Hey, we've got quite a show tonight.
• 1:49
Why not tell our listeners what we have in store this week? We start the show with the event of the week.
• 1:55
Up there in the little big lake, we welcome Chris Sulfrin from Reeb Cycles to talk about how they made their Donk even fatter. Crispy Soul Train.
• 2:05
We award the first caller that guesses the winning porn name from last week's show a fabulous prize package from Surly Bikes. Surly Bikes.
• 2:14
We take calls from our listeners and maybe, if we're lucky, learn something about life or romance. Lucky. We explore the greasy depths of the Fatty Farm field report. Greasy.
• 2:27
[laughs] Brought to you today by Fatbackbikes.com [laughs] Alaska. [laughs] I'm dying. I guess so. [laughs] And finally, we introduce our viewers at home to the Fat Bikes Seven Dwarves.
• 2:45
[laughs] Hey, I think we got a couple callers. Should we see if anybody- [laughs]... can we give you guys a break? Sure. Oh, my God. Hey, welcome to the radio program. It's already off track. Who do we have on the line?
• 3:01
Hello? Hello. Who are we talking to? Hey, my name's Nick. Hi, Nick. What's going on, Nick? Hey, how you doing? Doing all right. So are you calling to give us the secret word? I hope so. What's your guess?
• 3:15
How about Max Thrust? No. No. So close, but no cigar. Oh, sorry. All right. All right, dude. Thanks, Nick. Party on. Thanks. Are you, are you gonna take somebody else? Are you clicking away over there? Maybe.
• 3:29
[laughs] Well, welcome to the radio [laughs] program, caller. Who do we have on the line? Hi, this is Dave from Cape Cod. Hey, Dave. Hey. How's it going? Did you call in and hang up? Were you being impatient? No, not me.
• 3:43
[laughs] It wasn't me. It wasn't me. [laughs] Hey, I'm through giggling. Do you have a guess for the porn name- Uh... of the week? I have a list of them, yeah. I'll just- Oh, you just- Give them to you.
• 3:54
No, you just gotta d- just pick one. Okay. Let's go with Queenie Adams. Oh. Hey. That was, that was a good one, though. I know, that, that Queenie Adams is pretty, pretty, uh, you know- Okay...
• 4:04
descriptive of Evan's porn skills. Right on. Hey, thanks for trying. Thanks for trying, dude. Thanks. Bye. Should we go? Should we... I, I'm so ready. I'm, I'm not giggling. Or do we have more callers? Well, maybe.
• 4:20
[laughs] Well, maybe. Hey, it's Old Bear, though. Does... Can, can Old Bear take a guess? Oh, yeah. Old Bear is fully, uh, fully, uh... What would you say? I don't- Qualified. Qualified. Qualified. That's it.
• 4:34
You are a qualified applicant. Old Bear, we got quite a few callers. What... Do you have a, do you have a guess for the, the porn name of the week? Oh, I have, I have a guess, but they've already guessed it. Max Thrust.
• 4:45
I got a bunch of, bunch of films to tell you about. [laughs] Well, it's like- My, uh, my wife and I sat in the bedroom and came up with them. I can hang out. I want to hang out anyway. I can tell you their names later.
• 4:58
Okay. All right. All right. Sounds good. Why don't you hang on? 'Cause we're actually, uh, kind of waiting for Mr. Chris Sulfrin to call from, uh, Reeb. I know, but we got this, uh- And we'll, we'll talk to him...
• 5:08
event of the week bit to do, too. That'd be interesting. Right? Hold on just a bit- All right... Old Bear. I'm gonna just, uh... You can hang up, but I'll put you back in the queue. Okay.
• 5:16
[laughs] Welcome to the radio program. Jesus Christ, you guys. Get your shit together. [laughs] Gomez is freaking out, laughing. [laughs] Great call. I'm sorry, I cannot write... I, I can't write greasy...
• 5:30
[laughs] I can't write bubbles into the script that early, 'cause I just- Apparently... I completely lost it. And I was, I... [laughs] He almost made it. I was just sitting over here like a volcano.
• 5:42
So Tupper, my man- Yeah... what up? You know what? Your, uh, your, uh- Hey... your caller ID lists you as calling from North Pole, Alaska. [laughs] Nice. Yeah. God. Yeah. No, no. Yeah.
• 5:52
That's like, that's the lowest of the low in Alaska, North Pole. That's what it says right here. No, I'm just kidding. They're okay folks. [laughs] No, um- So dude- Yeah... what's your porn name? Oh, my personal one?
• 6:05
Yeah This one's awesome. I've been waiting to tell you this one for a week. It's Gus Goldpoke. [laughs] They're so good. Yeah, a lot of times. How does it work so good? So well. Sorry. So well.
• 6:17
Give me, give, give me, give me three seconds. I'm gonna run down, like, 'cause we, in high school, we all had the best, we had the best porn star names. My friend Zach, he was Chief Southwood. Ooh.
• 6:25
My friend Ed, he was Mitten Swallows. [laughs] And my brother was Bones Marshall, and our friend Jimmy was Shady Badger. All good ones, for sure. [laughs] Shady Badger.
• 6:36
But, um, I, I don't, I don't know the last week one. Was it Joe Lightfoot Dung something? I don't, I don't know. [laughs] You were, you are so close. Is, like, is, like, a badger- Yeah... just like a super fierce beaver?
• 6:51
That's a question for later. Yeah. [laughs] Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. We're, we're in the Badger State here. Anyway.
• 6:56
So listen, we got to, we gotta hang you, 'cause we're either gonna take another caller- Yeah, that's fine. Yeah, take care of business... or we're, I'm gonna crack up. I'll talk to you guys later. All right.
• 7:04
Thanks, Jeff. See you. Thanks, Jeff. All right, see you, guys. Hey, welcome to the radio program. Who do we have on the line? Sulfrane from REEB Cycles. There he is. Dude. How are you?
• 7:14
I, I hazarded a, a, a, a guess that that would be you. How you guys doing? Oh, well, let's [laughs] it's kind of silly already. I've already cried. [laughs] [laughs] And peed a little. Isn't that the goal?
• 7:27
[laughs] No, not really. The goal is to get- [laughs] The goal is to get JK to shoot beer out through his nose- [laughs]... and then snort it back up off his keyboard. [laughs] That's the goal. Or it just for the- Ah...
• 7:43
you know, just for a little bit. Good. So, uh, for those of you, uh, listening and/or listening, welcome to the program the fabricator of bikes at REEB Cycles, Mr. Chris Sulfrane. What is up?
• 7:58
That would, that would be you, man. [laughs] That would be me. Yeah. How's it going?
• 8:03
Oh, pretty good, you know, just sitting back, drinking a delicious Frosty Dale's Pale Ale, listening to some, uh, fine Swedish death metal. Excellent. Yes. Today we're on the, uh, Lakefront Extended Play IPA.
• 8:17
That's our, uh, session IPA of the week. There you go. A virtual cheers to you, then. Cheers, cheers. [speaks in Swedish] And beers.
• 8:26
So this week, Chris, you guys announced that your, uh, that your Donk Fat Bike got fatter. Can you, uh, can you tell our listeners everything that they wanna know about that? [laughs] Well, about this bike, eh?
• 8:43
Uh- [laughs] Yeah, man, we made it fatter, um,
• 8:47
gave it a wider rear spacing and a wider bottom bracket so you can fit even bigger tires and a, a regular one-by drivetrain without having any of those chain drag compatibility issues, um, that can happen sometimes on a 170 bike.
• 9:03
Cool. And, uh- So, so this one goes all the way up to 2XL. Is that correct? Yeah, absolutely. Um- With s- with six- That was definitely one of the target tires for us...
• 9:15
with six millimeters of clearance for our, uh, for our commenter that said, "Well, it doesn't look like there's much clearance in those pictures." It's kind of hard to tell, but six millimeters- [laughs]...
• 9:27
on each side is- Well, yeah, when those, uh, when those tires take up so much space, it doesn't look like anything else is big. I know.
• 9:33
[laughs] I've, I've tried to take those pictures, and it's, it's difficult to- [laughs] It's difficult to get- It's intimidating, man... all of the girth of, uh, certain tires. [laughs] That's right. Right?
• 9:47
Just some good clearance between the tire and the stays and the chain ring and the stays. Um,
• 9:53
and really, uh, we could even go a little bit shorter on the chain stays if it weren't for the, how, how big a diameter that tire is. Yeah, that ti- that tire is v- quite tall. It's taller than it is fatter- Yeah...
• 10:05
than the, than the Bud and Lou. Chris, I know that REEB takes a lot of pride in being a US, uh, US company making handcrafted bikes there in Colorado. Um, you guys have a proprietary tube set you use.
• 10:18
Uh, can you tell us a little bit about that? Yeah, so we worked real closely with True Temper.
• 10:23
Um, I basically came up with the designs of some tubing that we were, uh, wishing existed and approached Henry James and True Temper about it, and, um, they said, "Yeah, no problem," and, you know, a number of weeks later, we, we had our own, very own part numbers, very own custom tubing, and actually now Henry James is, uh, selling that to anyone who wants some.
• 10:50
So what did you do that made it different than, like, an existing, um, you know, True Temper, uh, you know, Varus HT or one of the other higher-end tube sets that they make?
• 11:00
Yeah, so a few of the differences, um, first up was the larger diameter seat tube. Uh, that allows us to run a full-size dropper post. Mm-hmm. That's a biggie. Next up was... Yeah, absolutely.
• 11:14
Um, you know, they didn't have anything in their lineup that would work, uh, just kind of right off the shelf, and then, um, uh, another key part of it was to update the down tubes of the bike.
• 11:27
Um, so we, we upgraded to a inch-and-three-quarter diameter down tube. They already had one, but it was for BMX bikes, uh, so it definitely wasn't long enough for, um, mountain bikes or fat bikes. Sure.
• 11:40
Um, so we created something that was a little more in line with, uh, some of their other 29er, um, geared tubes and, uh, you know, not only gave the bike additional stiffness, but also, you know, did a good update for the aesthetics of the bike.
• 12:00
You know, it makes, makes the bike a little more, more modern looking, um, you know, less like a 1980s road bike. Mm-hmm.
• 12:09
Yeah, speaking of 1980s bikes, uh- Our buddy Derek out in Washington just picked up an old Ritchie, like rummage sale find, Tom Ritchie built Ritchie Oh, my It's, it looks really- Oh, wow...
• 12:20
you can just go back and look at that thing and you go, "Oh, yeah, I remember those olden days." So I, I get what you're saying about kind of modernizing the look of the bike, et cetera.
• 12:31
Yeah, and, you know, especially with the mountain bikes, um, it ties into longer travel fork, really needs a stiffer front end, something that's gonna be stronger that can withstand the type of riding that, um, the bikes are really meant for.
• 12:46
And you're using a Paragon Machine Works, uh, head tube, right? A machined head tube, or am I mistaken?
• 12:55
Yeah, so, um, you know, all our parts on the bikes come from either True Temper or Paragon Machine Works, and we use 44 millimeter head tubes on all our bikes, um, so you can run a tapered steer fork. Mm-hmm.
• 13:10
And then, um, you know, another highlight of the bikes in general is the sliding dropouts
• 13:17
that incorporates the really low profile frame splitter, um, which make all of our bikes belt drive compatible, which is a, a real popular option. Yeah, they're, they're great.
• 13:28
I'm, I'm rocking a Rohloff belt drive right now for one of my, my beach fat bike. That, I love that thing. And that's one of the things- Yeah...
• 13:36
that at Reeb that you guys really do embrace those alternative and new technology drivetrains, like the Pinion gearbox, Gates carbon belt drive, and Rohloffs on many of your builds.
• 13:50
So that's- Yeah, I mean, it's, it's really, you know, we're all single speeders and, um, in mountain bike anyway, and with that, it's really a no-brainer using a belt.
• 14:01
And especially, they're so close, they're based in Denver, um, and so we, you know, we have a really good, close relationship with those guys. And, um, same goes for Rohloff and Cycle Monkey.
• 14:13
Uh, you know, we do a lot of stuff together and, um, build a lot of things around their, their drivetrain, um, components. Well, cool.
• 14:23
So you mentioned in one of your emails that we traded this week [laughs] that you're, you have a bike in the f- in the, uh, frame jig that has so much juju that it's gonna break the internet.
• 14:32
You wanna, uh, you wanna spill the beans on that? [laughs] Maybe a little bit. Uh, you know, we're, we're hanging parts on it today. Oh, cool.
• 14:42
And getting it all finished so we can get some photos of it, but, uh, yeah, a couple little, uh, teasers. It's, uh, you know, another bike for the Snowshoe 2 XL, but, and it's also titanium. Oh. It, uh- Nice...
• 14:57
will have a Lauf fork on it and some HeadRAMs and, uh, uh, kinda most importantly a, a Pinion gearbox. Oh, man. Pinion. Yeah.
• 15:06
I've not had enough time on a Pinion gearbox yet, but it certainly is a, uh, a, a beautiful piece of machinery. Yeah. I, I rode a, I rode a Reeb with a Pinion gearbox and, uh, I was impressed, so.
• 15:19
Yeah, it's, uh, it's, just from seeing it halfway put together, it's gonna be absolutely ridiculous.
• 15:27
Um, yeah, we're, we're super, super excited about it, and, you know, gonna send out, uh, send out some photos of it and be posting some stuff around probably next week. Well, cool. One of the coolest things about
• 15:41
being a Reeb owner and ordering a Reeb is that when you order it, you can take a trip out to Fort Collins, visit the brewery, see your- Longmont Yeah. Longmont, brother. Oh, sorry. Longmont. Longmont.
• 15:55
[laughs] Um, you can see Chris fabricating your bike or see him painting it or coating it right there, and, uh, maybe even get out for a ride. That would be a pretty good, uh- Yeah...
• 16:11
that would be a pretty damn good weekend, and go home with a beautiful American-made Fat Plus or Montan bike. So we really- Yeah, and you know what?
• 16:24
If you're, if you're interested in working on your own frame, doing some of the work and seeing the process and all of that, I'm more than happy to sit back and drink a beer and shout orders at you, so.
• 16:36
[laughs] But, uh, we'll get you working. Right on. Yes. Welcome. You, you lost me there, though. [laughs] Work? What's that? [laughs] I'm the one with the beer here. [coughs] Hmm. Yeah, fair enough.
• 16:47
Hey, there's plenty of beer to go around. Oh, man. Yeah, I, yeah, it, there's walls of beer. There's, there's worlds of beer. You- Literally walls of beer, yeah. Yeah. All right, Chris. With Minnesota.
• 17:00
Well, thanks a lot for taking time to talk to us about the new bike and, uh, just a little bit about what's going on out there. Yeah, thanks. Among, among the best- Thanks for having me on...
• 17:08
best guests we've ever had here at, uh, Fat Bike Radio. Dang right. [laughs] So, you know- Aww, you're just looking for beer. [laughs] Well, uh, thanks for being on the show, dude.
• 17:20
Go back to making bikes- Yeah, definitely... and drinking your beer and being awesome. We're gonna, we're gonna- I will. All right... talk more porn names than Seven Dwarves. That's our life. [laughs] Yeah.
• 17:30
Sounds good, man. All right. Thanks for having me. Bye-bye. We'll see you later. Bye. Hey, that was, uh, Chris from, uh, Reeb right there. A guy I like to call Crispy Soul Train. There you go.
• 17:42
So, uh, you know, one thing we should probably just cover real quick before we jump back into those phone calls- Que pasa, Mombasa We got the Fat Bike Event of the Week we should probably talk about a little bit.
• 17:51
Oh, crap, yeah. Eh? So, uh, the event of the week up there is the, uh, Bike Across Bagel. Eh? Eh?
• 17:58
[laughs] Cripes, that's a ride that you can, uh, you can spear a sturgeon on there and then you ride your fat bike over to Bobbers for a peber. It's like 20 miles round trip, I think.
• 18:06
Uh, yeah, right across Lake Winnebago on, uh- Bagel... February 6th- Bagel... 11, 11:00 AM up there in the Fox Valley on the way to Packerland there. Yeah, you could take your lumbago to Winnebago. Indeed.
• 18:19
Well, there'll be a link in the show notes if you are so inclined. You can click on that, check it out, get signed up Top of the hill, the Sasquatch-ch-ch-ch-cha. Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah. Oh.
• 18:31
Hey, let's take a quick break here and we're gonna jump back into this thing with some callers. We're trying to figure out what that, that porn star name is. It's eluding you.
• 18:45

When I'm not profiting off of foreign wars, I'm listening to Sven and Gomez on Fat Bike Radio. All righty then. And we're back here now, here now again, here. We're back here now.
• 19:42
Nothing, there's nothing [laughs] wrong here. [laughs] It's all fine here now. How are you? [laughs] Hey, repeat caller. How's it going? Are, are you calling in for another g- another go? Hi.
• 19:56
Yes, I'm ready for another go. All right. Is it Yoda Fairchild? Whoop! Whoa. Whoop, whoop, whoop. By cracky, it is. Whoop, whoop. Was that loud- [bell dinging] Was that loud enough? [laughs] Yeah, baby. We got it.
• 20:10
[laughs] Right on. All right. He's got, he's got his sweetie laughing in the background. He's like, "I can't believe you stayed on the phone for so long to talk to those jackasses and blah, blah, blah." [laughs] Yeah.
• 20:23
Well, all right. Well, you have to, uh, you have to tell us your porn name now. My porn name would be Coco High. [laughs] Wow. My first- Boy...
• 20:34
my first, my first pet was, uh, a dog named Coco, and my street name is High. High Street, man. High Street. Coco High? Coco High. Nice. Man. Very good. Hey, in, in super secret, uh, just lay me on your contact info.
• 20:50
I'll edit this out of the show so no other jerks call you up or try to wheeze on your porn name or anything. So- Okay. So you want like a, an address? Just where we can ship your fabulous Surly prize package. Yeah.
• 21:06
And just spell your name out for me. I don't think we can send it to the porn name. [laughs] Sure. Um, it's Ryan. All right. Hey, thanks for that, uh, Ryan. It was great. Congratulations on being- Yeah...
• 21:17
the Surly prize package winner. Yeah, man. We may get that out. Yes. Thank you very much. [bell dinging] Okay. Thanks for calling, man. All right, we'll see ya. All right.
• 21:24
Well, I, I guess that just shuts down the old phone lines for a while. Except- Old Bear's here... except... Hey, Chewy. Ouch. [laughs] What's up? Word.
• 21:35
[laughs] Can you guys, can you guys hear what's going on in the background here? Hang on a second. [laughs] We're on the radio. Wait. You hear that? Just barely. I'm at the Eagles. They're playing bingo.
• 21:46
[laughs] That's funny. See you real soon. Give me a card, sweetie. [laughs] Just kidding. So Chewy- What's up? Uh, is this Chewy? It's Chewy. [laughs] Who the fuck do you think it is? Hello.
• 22:02
[laughs] Aren't you, aren't you, uh- Playing bingo here... didn't you call in to give us a, give us your two cents on how we've been doing? Because, you know, Chewy, our numbers- Oh, yeah...
• 22:11
are, our numbers are looking really good. You know, a lot of r- a lot of people have been listening. I think we're up to, like, nine people. I was gonna say seven- [laughs]... because Sven and I aren't doing anything.
• 22:22
[laughs] So what do you guys wanna... So are you guys trying to, like, get a free trip to California or something by, by breaking up the California Fat Bike Championship? What the hell is that?
• 22:34
[laughs] I lived out there for eight years. I have an affinity for the place. It's like every- [laughs]... every racer gets a salad, and, uh, I don't know what else, and an avocado.
• 22:45
I just figured it made sense, 'cause those Hawaii bastards out there will just screw it up anyway, so why not have one out there? It's true, you know. It, and with El Niño, it's gonna be the only place with snow.
• 22:57
Have you guys got any yet? No, I, they're, they're forecasting it Saturday morning. I'm supposed to wake up to the white stuff, so I'm pretty sure that it's just gonna be fucking rain if you ask me.
• 23:06
[laughs] But- Yeah, that's all we're getting is rain. We're not even close to snow.
• 23:10
Yeah, it- But I, but I am checking out the Eagles' club here, 'cause I am thinking about doing a, a winter crit if we ever get snow here. Oh. I think I have the perfect course. Oh.
• 23:19
Well- Right up back up on the deck of the bar. How could that go wrong? Oh. [laughs] I don't think it can.
• 23:25
We're trying to find, uh, and speaking to how could, what could possibly go wrong, we're trying to get a, a fat bike biathlon series going with real firearms, so. Well, that only makes sense to me. Yeah.
• 23:40
It's like skiing, cross-country skiing biathlons, so why wouldn't there be a fat bike one? Right. Exactly. Other than those guys will try to run it and tell us how to run it- Except-... and that might be wrong...
• 23:49
except we're gonna have goalies. No, [laughs] just kidding. Chewy's the goalie coach. A slap shot contest. That would be awesome. Oh. There you go.
• 23:57
A fat bike slap bi- a s- fat bike slap shot biathlon around a frozen lake. Sort of like,
• 24:04
sort of like, uh, when before there was fat bikes and you still used to race in the snow and Gino had his cold, hard Cash for Dash where you would jump on your bike, ride out to the middle of the lake, drill an ice hole, drink a beer, then ride back, and the fastest one won, I don't know, like- Dude...
• 24:19
50 bucks in cash or something. That's a classic right there. So it's, yeah. I can't believe- With a hand auger?... that nobody's done, has done that yet. Oh. Somebody got bingo and I missed it. [laughs] Shit.
• 24:34
Do you win meat at this bingo, or is it cash? No, that's, that's the bar bingo. This is the, this is the whole place bingo. It's a whole different thing. This is like serious bingo players.
• 24:43
Don't fuck with them if you know what's good for you. [laughs] You'd be like Lunz getting his ass kicked by an old blue-haired lady. Which- Oh, hey, that reminds me. You guys are bragging up Norin's, um, welding.
• 24:58
Oh, yeah? He's nuts. Think about all the welders you know. They're all crazy. [laughs] Really? Eric seems so perfectly sane to me. [laughs] You know who seems sane? Chris. Chris is sane. Soul train. Chris be soul train.
• 25:13
When you got a name like Chris be soul train, I don't know what. You, you weld and miter tubes quite well. He's got it going on. He's got, like- So anyway, back to that, back to that now. Um- Norin...
• 25:25
what about the 24, what about... So is, Ed's gonna make 24-inch carbon fat bike wheels? Is that what I'm- Yeah... getting out of that? Yeah. Yes. Yes, sir. That's, that's the word, Burt.
• 25:37
And, and okay, and by the way, it's not the first time anybody's done that. There is a 24-inch fat, uh, well, it's only a three-inch, but don't forget, Surly did that on their 1x1- Oh, yeah... their 11th anniversary.
• 25:51
Oh, yeah. I had one of those. True that. That was a, that was one of my first fattish bikes. True that. That, that is absolutely true. And, you know, Framed and Specialized and Trek all have 24-inch kids' fat bikes.
• 26:05
But this is really- But, but the-... targeted towards the more- The 1x1 was targeted at adults. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I hear you. Yeah. Well, this is just... And that's what I'm getting at. Oh.
• 26:13
The point is, is that these bikes, a 26-inch bike with 24s on it is just kind of a cool novelty idea. If you have to build a frame for that, then that person is probably too small to actually be riding a bicycle.
• 26:26
[laughs] Unless they're going, they're eventually going up into it. Should we- And as we talked about before, they should probably just take those 24-inch carbon rims- Mm-hmm...
• 26:36
and the people that would need them, and then send them to Australia. Australia. Down under. You know, the leper, the lap- the leper colony thing. [laughs] So short people all have leprosy?
• 26:50
No, but like- Now, you have to know, you have to know somebody- It's like a, it's like a parallel. [laughs] Is this- Um. Is this when we cue the Randy Newman song? The whole short people- Yeah. Did, did you bring it?
• 27:02
I, you know, JK's actually, uh, uh, he's in- [laughs]... in charge of, uh, uh, stuff like that maybe. I don't know. [laughs] Unbeknownst to me. [laughs] Unbeknownst to him. But, uh-
• 27:16
Oh, so- You, you have to know somebody who is- Before I, before I have, before I have the playlist ahead of time before I call, I make sure I talk to him to make sure I get the playlist correct. Right. Exactly.
• 27:25
Talk to production. They take care of everything. [laughs] So- They said, "I'm the rider." [laughs] Right. Uh, so you're telling me you don't know any diminutive,
• 27:39
uh, full-grown adult folks who are in that 5'4" to 4'11" range? Yeah, but the ones that I know buck up and ride a real bike. Oh, well, there you go. [laughs] It's because- Like, I know, I know who it is.
• 27:55
I- It, it- Oh, here's, here's Randy Newman's song. [laughs] See? I told you. We're not- [laughs] You're gonna get ASCAP on us, damn it. [laughs] I know. [laughs] You know who's gonna call? Hold those for seconds.
• 28:10
You know who's gonna call back is it's Eric Nor- Norin's gonna call back and be like, "Those guys are the biggest dicks." Duh. Because Norin's not that short. He just has really short legs. Yeah, and a really long torso.
• 28:22
And act- and, and you know, he's done, he's done a bunch of welding for me. He does a wonderful job. Oh. And that's the one thing- I had no idea... good thing about him. Yeah. I had no idea.
• 28:32
He's done, um, he did all, he's coupled all the bikes that I've had coupled. Oh, cool. He's done a couple of little odd jobs for me. No, he's, he's freaking fantastic.
• 28:40
And he- All the people that I know talk very highly of him in, in, in his skill set and his bike thing, but also kind of relate that- Oh... that he's, you know, freaking, you know, like,
• 28:57
I don't know what the word is, but- Ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba. Yeah, he talks, man. He's, he's just a talker, you know? He's like, uh- Kind of like you. Yeah. [laughs] Although I can't spit it out maybe as he, he might be.
• 29:10
I don't know. So anyway. Can you imagine an evening of him and I sitting in a shop drinking? Yes. Oh, Lord. Do you sell tickets to that event? Exactly. That's an e-ticket. [laughs] Right?
• 29:21
And, and why don't you guys have your own podcast radio show program? [laughs] Why? You could get 10 listeners. Yeah. 'Cause there's, uh, there's, there's as many podcasts out there now as there is fat bike companies.
• 29:32
Too many. Oh, dear. [laughs] Oh, dear. Hey, cheers everybody. [laughs] Yeah. I, I, I, I asked him to give us a call and, you know, put us in our place.
• 29:49
[laughs] I think that was it right there. [laughs] You know, just turn off the podcast. I know you guys are grandfathers and you, like, sort of started the ball rolling. Ah. And now you're the monster.
• 30:00
I am a grandpa, so yeah, that's, I ride like a grandpa, too. All right. But yeah, we gotta get together and ride like grandpas together if you're, uh, you know, with you.
• 30:10
Well, as soon as the hockey season's over with, I will, I'm gonna come down and go ride the beaches with you guys. All right. That sounds like a deal. Sure does.
• 30:17
And you know what else is gonna- I've got a lot of opponents... freaking happen is, uh, Pugsy World Championships, right? I think we're all fully committed to that. Well, oh, so you guys haven't heard. Oh, it's now-
• 30:31
WC is, we're not sure where it's going. It could very well, it could very well be in Flagstaff. Oh, wow. Even better.
• 30:40
Because, because the, the fine folks in Decorah don't seem to wanna deal with it anymore, so, um, Dinner is, uh, thinking about we, we doing- Doing it in Flagstaff...
• 30:51
well, I got, I got the wo- well, let's put it this way. I got the word that the Decorah group didn't wanna run Pugsley World Championship this year when I was in Japan. Oh.
• 31:00
So the time change, you know, the altitude must have been, made me a little crazy, and I pretty much said, "Fuck you guys then. I'll take it someplace else."
• 31:08
And I just happened to be sitting next to Scandinavian Jesus who says, "Hey, let's take it to Flagstaff." So we're gonna take it to Flagstaff.
• 31:14
We don't know when yet, but we're gonna go to Flagstaff right in the snow up there. Was there sake involved? And that'll be the Pugsley World Championship. What's that? Was there sake involved?
• 31:23
Uh, quite a bit of sake at that time as a matter of fact. Very nice. I thought there might be sake involved. It was, it was the only way to travel. [laughs] You get tired of bad Japanese beer.
• 31:31
You can only drink that for so long. [laughs] You know, after about seven to eight hours of it, you kinda had to switch to something else.
• 31:38
You know, but warm sake just is like licking the sweat off of your own butt crack. At a preferred temperature. That is nasty. But it's 98.4 degrees Fahrenheit- Right, but-... like this is. [laughs] It's nasty.
• 31:52
Unfiltered sake is really good. Yeah. Un- unfiltered is the way to go. And then you know what else they have over there? They have juice boxes with sake in it.
• 32:01
How can you go wrong with something that, that sake with a little plastic, you know, that cut-in-half straw thingy? Mm-hmm. [laughs] It was perfect. It was just perfect. Well, aren't you just Mr.
• 32:13
Jet Setter, Mick Jagger, jump on a plane and go over to Japan and ride your single speed bike, mister. I tell you. We did. We did. That's pretty cool.
• 32:25
So, uh- And, and you couldn't, and you couldn't believe the fat bikes over there. Oh, yeah, they, they grape those bikes out. In, in the single speed world championship it was full of fat bikes.
• 32:34
Um, tiny little Japanese women riding full-sized fat bikes. It made Eric, it embarrassed Eric to no end. Uh- Riding single speed fat bikes... photo expose. Women in Japan- I know... on full-sized fat bikes.
• 32:50
[laughs] Oh, yeah. Yeah. So tell me one thing- They even go biking... I'm, I'm just gonna ask you one last question, Chewy, and- Okay... all of our fans have been really wondering about this, is what is your porn name?
• 33:03
Chewy. [laughs] All right. There you have it. [laughs] That's all there is to it. All righty. I'll talk to you guys next week. All right, dude. Okay, Chewy. Have a good one. Thanks. Laters. [laughs] All right.
• 33:17
See you guys. Bye. Hey. Let's, uh, take a quick break here, and when we come back we'll, uh, delve into what next week's call-in question might be. Oh, yeah.

• 34:12
I say, what do you want Santa to bring you for Christmas or Hanukkah or Kwanzaa or f- the holidays, the after Thanksgiving? Does Santa do all that? Man, he's busy. The Santa. I, I, I put air quotes. Like Santa Monica.
• 34:25
[laughs] Exactly. The holiday season. [laughs] What do you want Santa to bring you? Are we talking only fat bike stuff, or can we talk, uh- I mean-... Maseratis and- Yeah, whatever. As long as it-... and whatnot, right?
• 34:35
... can, yeah. If you can loosely tie it back into a bike. It is a fat bike show. Right. At times. Sometimes. [laughs] Last half hour I'm not so sure.
• 34:45
[laughs] Well, think about it and call in next week Wednesday from 8:00 to 9:00 Central Time to 818-918-2453, and let's discuss live. Yeah, it's time for the fucking Fatty Farm Field Report.
• 35:01
[laughs] Yeah. Time for the Fatty Farm Field Report. [laughs] Hey, this week's Fatty Farm Field Report is presented by Fatback Bikes of Alaska.
• 35:16
[laughs] JK's got the- Check out the all new Skookum fat bike at fatbackbikes.com. Say that five times. [laughs] I can't. [laughs] I know. [laughs] Do you have beer in your nose?
• 35:32
Oh, JK, I almost had him. So, uh- Almost had him... Ryan, Ryan got this week's, uh, secret word, Yoda Fairchild. Yoda Fairchild. That was JK's porn name, by the way. His real porn name.
• 35:42
His real porn name, not the one he just made up for himself. Yeah. Max Thrust. Max Thrust. So next week, next week we're gonna... Well, right now I'm gonna introduce you to the Fat Bike Seven Dwarves.
• 35:54
[sings] Fatty, Slushy, Nobby, Gnarly, Sandy, Surly, and Wrench. The first caller n- into next week's show after 8:30 that can name all seven Fat Bike dwarves wins a fabulous prize from Surly Bikes.
• 36:08
Tell the folks what they win, Tom Pardo.
• 36:12
Next week's prize package features the cosmopolitan luxury of Surly's stylish new stove pipe, along with a casual blouse and distinctive Merino wool finery, all provided by Surly and Surly of Beverly Hills, Minnesota.
• 36:28
So call in to win. Yeah, do that Hey, we still got that, uh, contest going on, too, for the Global Fat Bike Day organizers- Yeah... who put together a Toys for Tots ride. Indeed.
• 36:43
You could win a Surly Moonlander option. Moonlander. You can win a OneUp USA two bike rack, and a fabulous Bontrager prize package. For third place it's the- No steak knives? [laughs] No steak knives. But, uh,
• 37:02
next week we're going to highlight the world wide, wide, wide, wide, wide, the wide world of Global Fat Bike Day. So we'll talk about all that stuff.
• 37:15
Yeah, if you've got a Global Fat Bike Day event, make sure to let us know about it so we can pimp it on this here radio program.
• 37:21
Yeah, or you can put it on our Facebook Global Fat Bike Day event page, and then we'll, like, read stuff and stuff. Maybe. [laughs] This week we talk to Bike Black Ribbon test pilot Lieutenant Dave Glover.
• 37:36
Sent me word that he's taking d- our, uh, Fat Bike Rhino, Fatback Rhino that he's tasting, te- that he's testing. Whoa. What tongue? Were you, was your tongue okay over there? Yike-a-mundo.
• 37:49
David Glover testing a- I'm excited about-... Fatback Rhino... Mesa.
• 37:54
You know, that's a place that I've ridden, and I had [laughs] one of those crazy, sunset, magical, just get back to the car with just enough light to see. Ah, so good.
• 38:06
And there's dinosaur bones just sticking out of the rocks there. It's badass. That's in, uh, Hurricane, Utah over there. Yeah. So he's going to take our test bike, the Fat Bike Rhino there. Fatback Rhino.
• 38:19
He gonna dunk it. [laughs] There's something in the name. Uh-huh. [laughs] It's a Fatback Fat Bike Fatback Fat Bike Fatback Fat [laughs] Fatback. [laughs] Maybe that's why they named it Fatback. Maybe.
• 38:31
Because it sounds so much like fat bike. But in [laughs] the read through, I loved what we did with that whole section, but we really shouldn't do it, because that would be bad. [laughs] Yeah.
• 38:42
Hey, somehow today we, uh, managed to record the second episode of Fat Bike TV, and we covered the, uh, we, we, we covered the, the Sarma Vortex this time. We gave it the old star treatment under the spotlight. Yeah.
• 38:55
That's their, uh, their new, uh, kind of affordable aluminum. It's a beast. Fat bike. Hmm? From Sarma. Yeah, we'll have that up next week on the old site about, uh, whenever we get to it. Oh, yeah.
• 39:08
By the way, where is, uh, my test bike? Aren't you testing that Schlick Tataka? You want me to test old Bessie? Old Bessie. Old Bessie. Man. No.
• 39:20
I, I don't know if it's fair to test a bike that you actually spent your hard earned money on. [laughs] I know. We could do a reader's ride on it. We could do a, we could do a ride report on JK's, uh, his rig.
• 39:31
If I were out there listening to this and listening to you snort, me try and make you laugh- [laughs]... and then me laugh hysterically, I'd wanna know what kind of bike you rode. Plus, it is a pretty damn sexy bike.
• 39:42
It's got upholstery. [laughs] And stuff. It's nice. Let's check in with Old Bear. Oh, yeah, yeah. Old Bear, how's it going, dude? How you guys doing? Did we, did we put you to sleep yet? Lul- lull you to sleep?
• 39:57
Well, I've been re- been enjoying it. I, I moved from the couch over to my bed, though. I wanted to- [laughs]... start stretching out. They give me my evening pills [laughs] Woo. Woo, time for the stretch out. Yeah.
• 40:13
Well, we'll, uh- Yeah. I have to take some pills to help me sleep. Just old age creeping up, but I'm not old. Hell, my great-grandfather was killed in the City of Milwaukee at 107 by a street car. No way. Wow.
• 40:31
Wow. So. That's c- Anyway. 107. I, I enjoyed the show tonight. Well, thanks, man. We, uh, we, we jumped right out of the box, just out of, kind of, like, lost it right away.
• 40:44
We didn't even get through the first two minutes before cracking up, so that's, uh, that's the way we like it. My wife and I were sitting there, and we thought it was Max Thrust, you know, the name. Mm-hmm.
• 40:57
Came up with a little, with a, with a, a couple different, uh, movie titles for it. [laughs] You know, alternate names, part of it. Max Thrust.
• 41:09
Fat Bike Productions presents Max Thrust and Sexy Susie in 10 Little Fatties. [laughs] I like it. Max Thrust and, and Sexy Susie in Not Without Uncle Dick's Beach Flip.
• 41:26
[laughs] That one I like. Nice. Good. You even brought in the sponsors. Max Thrust and Sexy Suzie, Susie in, Max, Susie, and What the Gnome Saw.
• 41:40
[laughs] Very good. You got a lot of time on your hands, don't you? I've just got a warped sense of humor. That's why I ride fat bikes.
• 41:49
That's why even though the wife can't ride a bike right now due to her health problems, she's still a fat cyclist at heart. Oh, yeah. You got to, you know? Uh, but we, we were busy down here.
• 42:01
It's, it's, it's, it's been too cold, but, not too cold, but too rainy to ride. Yeah, here, too.
• 42:06
I mean, the place where I ride is a quagmire right now, and I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna drag Bri back my fat bike over all that. You'll mess that trail up. Yeah. It's nice. They close the trails here. Yep.
• 42:19
Yeah, we get a little bit of that in the fall, a little bit of that in the spring, but most of the time, pretty good trails. You guys are getting snow, aren't you, this weekend? Or did you already get snow? Maybe.
• 42:28
Not yet. We didn't get snow yet. Not yet. Saturday morning we're supposed to wake up to it. Chicago to get hit overnight, maybe. Yeah, it was raining pretty good, but, uh, we didn't get any snow yet.
• 42:40
But we're ready It was raining real good. In fact, they still got a flash flood watch up until midnight tonight. Well- That's something you don't get up north too much, is flash floods. But down here,
• 42:53
boy, they can really rain solely heck with you when you're out on the trail. Oh, I bet. The tires are working out excellently. I just love them. Oh, cool. They're easy to- Very cool...
• 43:05
I'm gonna raise a lot of them [laughs] for talking. They're such a beautiful, generous gift. Oh, thanks. Well, we appreciate you calling in. That, that hillbilly in the back really, really grips.
• 43:17
And with the snow shoe in the front, the control is, is perfect almost. And I got rid of self steer. The, the missions were causing a bit of self steer. Oh, nice.
• 43:28
Yeah, that was, that was kinda something that that tire was famous for. I forgot the question of the... You forgot about the question of the week. Oh, dude, I haven't asked anybody about the question of the week.
• 43:37
What was the question of the week? Tell us about your first time- Oh, yeah... on a fatty. Darn. That's what that section of the story [laughs] We had so much going on today. It's, uh- Well, Old Bear can do it.
• 43:50
7:50- Yeah, Old Bear can do it... I almost killed myself. Oh. So tell us about your first time. I got my bike. All right, I got my bike, you know, through the mail, put it together, aired up the tires.
• 44:01
Overinflated the front a little bit. I didn't know exactly how many pounds to put in, 'cause I didn't have a valve gauge. Friend of mine loaned me one and I checked after I almost wiped out.
• 44:12
What happened was I was going up the street and I turned. Yeah, the thing decided to self steer and put me into the curb. No, no. [laughs] Yikes. But I enjoyed my bike. Af- that didn't discourage me.
• 44:27
That bike still brought back that seven-year-old smile. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. That's cool. It's one thing, we have a smile quotient with, uh, fat bikes. It brings back the kids.
• 44:40
This Wade out there in Colorado often says, "These are toys for us kids. Oh my." [laughs] Yep.
• 44:48
That's, that's something that I think that, uh, we all have to remember is, you know, these are just big kid toys and, uh- Yep... you know, I, I try- For Global Fat biking gang, we're having a...
• 45:02
Not, not for the Global Fat biking, but for Thanksgiving [laughs]... we're having a combined dinner here at the center. Oh, cool.
• 45:11
And, uh, my kids are coming down, so I'm gonna turn it into a fat bike, uh, Global, Global Fat Bike gang thing. Killer. That's awesome. Sounds good. Yeah, I don't know what I'm doing for Global Fat Bike Day yet.
• 45:24
My, my middle son wants to get a fat bike. He fell in love with mine. He keeps trying to talk me out of it, but no. [laughs] I love my bike too much. Yep, when they're grown they can buy their own toys. [laughs] Yeah.
• 45:41
Well, I love my kids and I did give him a, uh, I did give him an old Rockhopper that had a front suspension on it. It was filled with the regular caliper brakes and stuff, and he, he loved that bike.
• 45:55
But he, he likes bikes. Uh, well, we used to live on our bikes in, in Utah. This is before fat bikes were around. But we lived on our bikes, my family and I. We, we rented a house and I was going to college and,
• 46:11
uh, we'd ride all around town, even in the winter. I'd go shopping with a trailer on the back of a GTA and it was fun. Yeah. Oh, yeah. That's great. Sounds great.
• 46:23
That's, that's the way it was for when my kids were young too. All right, Old Bear. [coughs] Well, hey, thank, thanks for calling in and- One quick question. Sure. [coughs] Are you guys gonna come down- Choked up.
• 46:35
I'm coughing... to Missouri you think? Are we gonna come down? Yeah, absolutely. Thanks for talk about coming down in February and going for a ride in Bartlesville. Heck yeah, man. Let- let's do it. At some point.
• 46:49
Don't know when that'll be. I'm saying, I'm saying around Easter. That's when I used to go down there, 'cause spring opens up there quite early. Yeah, there's a lot going on up here in February.
• 46:59
But, uh, down that way, maybe a little bit later in the year. Yeah. Yeah, we're busy through, through the f- well, through the Birkie. Through the Birkie at the beginning of March, for sure.
• 47:09
And then things, things settle out and it, uh, you guys, uh, come out of mud season. If you come down like in April, if you come down on April- Yeah... the weather will be nicer, the trees will start blooming. Oh, yeah?
• 47:19
You'll see the dogwood starting to bloom. Right on. Yep, that's when I used to come down. The only thing is, you gotta take a lot of Deep Woods Off on those trails. Yeah, I know. Ticks. Yep. Ticks.
• 47:30
Well, I'll let you guys go. Okay. All right, Old Bear. Thanks, Old Bear. I'll call you next week. All right. Sounds good, dude. I tried to remember- Have a great week...
• 47:37
all, I remember what the s- that was, but I can't remember all seven of them, so. [laughs] Well, you can make up your own. [laughs] Huh? I said you can make up your own. You know, like Slushie. Yeah. Or... Chewy...
• 47:55
uh, Chewy. [laughs] 3.0, 4.0. Uh-oh. [laughs] Okay. 2.8. Well, we'll let you go, guys. All right, see you later. See you later. You guys have a great week. You too. You too. Right. Bye.
• 48:08
Thanks again for calling in, Old Bear. I liked those, uh, movie titles. He put a little thought into those. I know. How about that? Uncle Dick. Yeah, it was really good.
• 48:17
You're gonna have to listen to the show and see what he said. [laughs] No, not. So, uh, we're actually in the land of links now. Link land. Link land, Linker land. Lancelot Link and the Legend of Zelda. Mud plugging.
• 48:31
[laughs] Not what you think. [laughs] Yeah, I guess, uh, that's Bruce riding in the wet stuff with Nates apparently. Oh, yeah
• 48:43
And, uh, Mike Kuriak has a new, uh, full squishy Fat Lac Fat Lac from Lens And, uh, how about this? Specialized has plus bikes for kids. Blam. Yeah.
• 49:01
That's something pretty interesting, and what I noticed about just at least the release was that they started at a much lower price point than they did with their fat bike line.
• 49:10
[laughs] I think their fat bikes were about a grand for the kids' bikes. These are, like, $400 and $500 for the 20 and 24-inch plus bikes. Right. So that's, I think, a good thing. 1,000 bucks for a,
• 49:23
a, a small fat bike for a kid is a lot of moolah. Right, and you know, a 40-pound kid on a plus bike is gonna get a lot of flotation out of that three-inch tire. That they will.
• 49:37
[coughs] And then you have your for real list of links. Now, this is just a small sample. Some of these are actually, you know, I didn't even put the- [coughs] Are you down with it? Sorry.
• 49:50
I, I, I, I, I gotta change brands of cigarettes or something. Yeah. These are just- dynamic... I, you know, just in a couple of minutes, but it's that time of year, you know. And, uh, that's,
• 50:03
that's Gomez leaving [laughs] the room. [laughs] And Mike. It's contagious. Yeah, exactly. [laughs] Oh, that's funny.
• 50:15

Everything. The holidays. The holiday season. The one after Thanksgiving. Yeah. The- The one-... buying season. [laughs] Right. The one-month buying season after.
