- 0:00Speaker 1: H no no no no no no no no no.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Uh well that's pretty good.
- 0:30Speaker 3: I don't know how that's gonna work with our intro music,
- 0:32Speaker 3: but it's Mark from the Glory podcast owner Zarberniki Austin Rose,
- 0:38Speaker 3: Dakota free tag. Hopefully it's March for the Huskers. As
- 0:42Speaker 3: far as making the post season tournament, coda red, that's
- 0:47Speaker 3: how I'd like to call it right now on where
- 0:50Speaker 3: we're at after the lost Minnesota on Saturday, dak you
- 0:53Speaker 3: were there.
- 0:55Speaker 4: Yeah, we can just start out very fun game birth
- 1:00Speaker 4: that's what killed him.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Well, yeah, you're down nineteen at fifteen minutes.
- 1:05Speaker 5: Lit in the game, great inside deck.
- 1:10Speaker 2: We lost by two. So if you do the math
- 1:12Speaker 2: where we don't give up a twenty point lead.
- 1:17Speaker 4: But I cannot remember his name is that white kid
- 1:19Speaker 4: in Minnesota just hit everything. Can not remember his name is,
- 1:23Speaker 4: but rise that last shot, I was like, oh, this
- 1:25Speaker 4: is going.
- 1:25Speaker 5: In average is like less than five points a game
- 1:28Speaker 5: on the year.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Just goes nuclear and what do you have? Twenty rigsby
- 1:34Speaker 2: seven for eight twenty points.
- 1:39Speaker 6: Yeah, he's out there shouts in the crowd too.
- 1:43Speaker 5: The question I guess is why, Like.
- 1:48Speaker 3: I've heard some other people talk that that game may
- 1:52Speaker 3: have been one of the more disappointing losses that Nebraska
- 1:55Speaker 3: basketball has had. Not that in Husker sports, because we
- 1:59Speaker 3: know we've had plenty of I was on the football side,
- 2:01Speaker 3: but for basketball in itself, a game that, as much
- 2:06Speaker 3: as you want to say it should win at home.
- 2:10Speaker 3: I think we were eight or nine point favorite. It
- 2:12Speaker 3: was obviously a big one here for resume boosting and
- 2:16Speaker 3: postseason play.
- 2:18Speaker 5: Crowd was rocking. Stripe out Raid the stripe out you
- 2:23Speaker 5: all right?
- 2:24Speaker 2: Based off the picture Dak sent me, I'll give it
- 2:27Speaker 2: a B. B B.
- 2:30Speaker 6: Yeah, I'd say, I'd say, yeah, B.
- 2:34Speaker 4: It wasn't one of the best thing ever stop, but yeah,
- 2:37Speaker 4: B we'll say it was pretty good.
- 2:39Speaker 3: So, I mean, crowd was rocking from what it sounds like.
- 2:42Speaker 3: And then you come out and you start the way
- 2:44Speaker 3: you start in that game.
- 2:45Speaker 5: I don't have an answer.
- 2:47Speaker 3: I don't have an ex explanation, but just the fact
- 2:51Speaker 3: that that is what happened, and that that speaks for itself.
- 2:55Speaker 3: I don't know what it speaks and what it says,
- 2:57Speaker 3: but it's funny. Nebraska's we probably are not like we
- 3:03Speaker 3: would not call ourselves good this year. We've had our moments.
- 3:07Speaker 3: We've also laid a bunch of eggs and might say
- 3:10Speaker 3: a bunch some blowout losses and then losing a game
- 3:14Speaker 3: like this at home. I don't, I don't know, like
- 3:17Speaker 3: does this team belong in the tournament.
- 3:19Speaker 2: It's funny because you think back to the way the
- 3:24Speaker 2: football season went and going into the year, we all thought, man,
- 3:28Speaker 2: we're gonna be like seven and five, six and six,
- 3:32Speaker 2: and then we had the really good start and we're
- 3:34Speaker 2: all like, oh man, Hunter's like, we're gonna win the
- 3:37Speaker 2: college championship.
- 3:39Speaker 5: I never went that far.
- 3:42Speaker 2: But then like the same thing's happening here. We had
- 3:44Speaker 2: this incredible start. We all going into the year, we
- 3:46Speaker 2: all thought we were gonna be like probably like twenty
- 3:49Speaker 2: and twelve or I mean, that's I think that's where
- 3:52Speaker 2: we all had us. It was like twenty and twelve.
- 3:54Speaker 2: I don't know if any of us really went went
- 3:55Speaker 2: higher than that, And now we're seventeen and twelve with
- 4:00Speaker 2: two Winnabowl games allegedly. Yeah, it's just funny.
- 4:08Speaker 4: I mean, the thing that really kills this team and
- 4:10Speaker 4: I feel like that's since what Birds got hired, every
- 4:12Speaker 4: single team has this is those long scoring droughts. They
- 4:17Speaker 4: just go six seven minutes without scorn a basket and
- 4:20Speaker 4: just taking terrible shots too. That's that's what's killing him that. Yeah,
- 4:28Speaker 4: you don't, you don't much outside the two stars. Yeah,
- 4:32Speaker 4: bear k being back from injury has not been the same.
- 4:37Speaker 4: I think a season now has known exactly what he
- 4:40Speaker 4: what he's known to do.
- 4:42Speaker 3: And it's fine. That adds an element out there on
- 4:44Speaker 3: the floor of shooting. But he hasn't been great. You know,
- 4:48Speaker 3: Gary's never been an offensive get. We've always said that.
- 4:51Speaker 3: And man, for a guy like that to see him
- 4:53Speaker 3: take his jersey off the way to dofter the game,
- 4:55Speaker 3: I mean, just in pure frustration. And Bryce is I like,
- 5:00Speaker 3: he is damn good player. He's athletic, he can shoot it,
- 5:04Speaker 3: great mid range game, He's.
- 5:06Speaker 5: Our go to guy.
- 5:07Speaker 3: But he is the problem is he is kind of
- 5:11Speaker 3: the only thing that we really have as far as
- 5:13Speaker 3: creating cost in our offense. So Minnesota did a great
- 5:18Speaker 3: job defending us, and obviously Michigan did too, holding us
- 5:20Speaker 3: underd fifty in that game. But it's one of those
- 5:24Speaker 3: things that who do you turn to and and this
- 5:27Speaker 3: is where I'm gonna say it, and we knew we
- 5:31Speaker 3: miss Case, and we knew we missed all of the
- 5:35Speaker 3: treating in the threat. But the part that we maybe
- 5:38Speaker 3: not have talked about that we missed the most is
- 5:40Speaker 3: his energy and his just what he brings for the teams.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Give you any night of the year, we can go
- 5:50Speaker 2: out there and absolutely just shoot you off the floor.
- 5:53Speaker 3: And I'm talking about the take a shooting away just
- 5:56Speaker 3: as pure mojo and his.
- 5:58Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying, Like, that's the mojo you got
- 6:00Speaker 2: with it though, It's like this guy can come up
- 6:02Speaker 2: there and he can just like he can shoot you
- 6:04Speaker 2: out of the gym. Now did he always know? Sometimes?
- 6:08Speaker 2: But that was kind of the energy when I saw
- 6:10Speaker 2: something today too.
- 6:11Speaker 3: That said, through the same point in the year, Connor
- 6:17Speaker 3: Seasons actually attempted thirty one. Lesson made nine less threes.
- 6:21Speaker 3: So I mean to put in perspective, that's very similar.
- 6:24Speaker 3: I mean, obvious he hasn't attempted as many, but as
- 6:28Speaker 3: far as number wise, he's putting up similar numbers to Case.
- 6:34Speaker 3: It's just to you lose that in rank, I think
- 6:38Speaker 3: is the other big piece, Like you mentioned that that
- 6:40Speaker 3: that hurts from last year's team to this year's team.
- 6:45Speaker 3: I don't again this is trying to explain the why.
- 6:47Speaker 3: I don't know what there is. Besides, we need to
- 6:50Speaker 3: win these games if we want to have a shot
- 6:51Speaker 3: in the tournament. And you know what I get, I
- 6:54Speaker 3: don't know if this team desert, Like, is this team
- 6:56Speaker 3: a tournament team? Do you want to see them?
- 6:58Speaker 5: Like?
- 6:58Speaker 2: Not?
- 6:58Speaker 5: Nebraska fans in general?
- 7:01Speaker 2: What's the fined as tournament teams? So many freaking teams
- 7:03Speaker 2: make the tournament, Like, I'm not, like, do we deserve
- 7:07Speaker 2: to be in the tournament? Shit? We could be probably
- 7:10Speaker 2: ten teams that make the tournament.
- 7:13Speaker 4: I mean the bottom, the bottom of the bubble is
- 7:14Speaker 4: always pretty bad, and this year it's it's really bad
- 7:18Speaker 4: this year. I mean, you gotta look those other teams.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Nebraska is on the same level as all those the
- 7:26Speaker 4: bottom bubble teams.
- 7:28Speaker 3: That's that's what is awesome or cool this year as
- 7:33Speaker 3: far as where we're at, even after this loss, we're
- 7:35Speaker 3: now I mean back in the thick of the bubble
- 7:38Speaker 3: where I don't think that we're out. It feels like
- 7:41Speaker 3: we're out, but I don't think that we are. And
- 7:44Speaker 3: a lot of people are saying, well, we gotta win
- 7:46Speaker 3: our last two and a tournament game. I think with
- 7:49Speaker 3: all these lower bubble teams, I mean, beating Ohio State
- 7:52Speaker 3: is going to be a big check mark if we
- 7:55Speaker 3: can do that tomorrow night. But go one and one
- 8:01Speaker 3: and and and win a two tournament games. I mean,
- 8:03Speaker 3: I think you get the twenty wins you're in, Like
- 8:04Speaker 3: I think that bottom line. However, you that nineteen. I
- 8:07Speaker 3: don't think that's half of the question, just because there's
- 8:09Speaker 3: so many bad bubble teams this year, especially more than
- 8:13Speaker 3: other years that have bad losses, that just don't have resumes,
- 8:18Speaker 3: even previous year bubble teams do.
- 8:19Speaker 5: So we're still there. It's not like.
- 8:22Speaker 3: It's not over yet, but it just was demoralizing after
- 8:26Speaker 3: that loss.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Well it's because it's the second loss by the last second,
- 8:32Speaker 2: you know, Like we had the lead with what eight
- 8:34Speaker 2: seconds left in the game, and then it was like, oh,
- 8:38Speaker 2: our defense is just gonna let this guy shoot this
- 8:40Speaker 2: three and he drills it and we didn't. I mean
- 8:45Speaker 2: we didn't really get a look at the end, but
- 8:47Speaker 2: we kind of did.
- 8:49Speaker 5: Not the one you'd want, not the one you'd want.
- 8:51Speaker 6: Not with you Morgan Eve, Yeah.
- 8:57Speaker 2: It was. Yeah, I think it's more of it feels
- 9:00Speaker 2: like a code red. I still think we're in the tournament.
- 9:03Speaker 2: It feels like a code red because we've had two
- 9:05Speaker 2: games I've lost by three or fewer points, and we
- 9:09Speaker 2: need to win at least we need to. We needed
- 9:11Speaker 2: to win one of these easier games that we have
- 9:13Speaker 2: not even done that.
- 9:15Speaker 4: No, and tomorrow might be loser girls home game, because
- 9:20Speaker 4: you guys are ball sitting on the same same tier there.
- 9:24Speaker 4: I think they lose this game will make tournament. It ever,
- 9:28Speaker 4: wins on is pretty much.
- 9:29Speaker 3: One well, and maybe you can say that, but then
- 9:32Speaker 3: we go on and be Iowa. Now I should put
- 9:36Speaker 3: an asterisk next to this. And obviously, if we'd lose
- 9:38Speaker 3: both games and don't make the Big Ten tournament, there's
- 9:40Speaker 3: obviously a zero percent chance that we're in. And I
- 9:43Speaker 3: think that is a scenario that could happen if we
- 9:46Speaker 3: were to lose out and not even make the Big
- 9:49Speaker 3: Ten tournament. You but I think even if you lose
- 9:52Speaker 3: Ohio State be Iowa, you still can pull off a
- 9:55Speaker 3: couple of wins and it's still still the Big Ten, right.
- 9:58Speaker 3: It's not like we're going to be playing teams that
- 10:01Speaker 3: we can go up and have no shot at beating.
- 10:03Speaker 3: I mean, any team in the Big ten.
- 10:04Speaker 5: Let's be real.
- 10:05Speaker 3: I mean, Michigan State's playing well right now, you probably
- 10:08Speaker 3: wouldn't want to run into them, but you know, throw
- 10:11Speaker 3: throw us up against any of these other We just
- 10:13Speaker 3: saw what happened against Michigan. I don't think that's out
- 10:17Speaker 3: of the question that we can't win those games, but
- 10:18Speaker 3: it would take a lot to do to get us in.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Like I said, I think getting to twenty you feel good. However,
- 10:28Speaker 3: you get to twenty wins with two remaining games left
- 10:32Speaker 3: in the regular season and then the Big Ten Tournament,
- 10:34Speaker 3: I think you're you're probably sitting pretty good. But that
- 10:39Speaker 3: starts tomorrow when we play Ohio State on the road
- 10:42Speaker 3: that we're not going to be favored in and Ohio
- 10:44Speaker 3: States is also not playing well. But you can win
- 10:48Speaker 3: that game, you're feeling a lot better about where you're
- 10:50Speaker 3: sitting for.
- 10:53Speaker 5: The bubble.
- 10:55Speaker 2: I mean, you win that game, you're at least locked
- 10:57Speaker 2: in the Big Ten Tournament, which wants too.
- 11:00Speaker 3: That gives you, That gives you the start you obviously,
- 11:01Speaker 3: if you don't get in there, you're not hitting in anyways.
- 11:03Speaker 4: So I mean you look at a House State, they're
- 11:06Speaker 4: sixteen twelve, they're projected eleven seed right now, like.
- 11:11Speaker 5: Nothing, remember right ahead and Indiana's back in now.
- 11:16Speaker 4: They beat Nebraska here, didn't they close? Yeah that was
- 11:21Speaker 4: on that like sixteen moving street. Yeah, like I news
- 11:25Speaker 4: win tomorrow, good luck on the road.
- 11:29Speaker 3: So this might be a very forward looking and worthless
- 11:36Speaker 3: conversation now, But I think this team hopeful, I mean
- 11:42Speaker 3: hopefully even if we lose, lose, should potentially still be
- 11:46Speaker 3: in the n i T.
- 11:48Speaker 5: And have a shot there.
- 11:51Speaker 3: I still don't think it's the worst thing in the
- 11:53Speaker 3: world if we can find a way if we do
- 11:57Speaker 3: go to the n i T, like to get to
- 11:59Speaker 3: the final four the NIT and show that there's like
- 12:02Speaker 3: winning about this team and care last time this happened
- 12:06Speaker 3: where we missed the tournament and then that happened to
- 12:08Speaker 3: not even get a home game, we went and just
- 12:09Speaker 3: got drilled by Mississippi State in the n T.
- 12:13Speaker 5: Not saying that that's going to happen.
- 12:15Speaker 3: We're going to be an n I T team for sure,
- 12:16Speaker 3: but if it does, I just I hope that for
- 12:19Speaker 3: I mean everybody's sake, But I mean I will say,
- 12:21Speaker 3: mainly for Hoiberg, that that they have that fight and
- 12:25Speaker 3: bring that fight and and don't think we're quote unquote
- 12:28Speaker 3: too good for the NIT because good god, we aren't.
- 12:33Speaker 3: That's an opportunity to play in the postseason, and we
- 12:35Speaker 3: better show up and be cool to win a few
- 12:38Speaker 3: games in that tournament. So that's long ways down the
- 12:43Speaker 3: road there, but I think that that's part of the conversation.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Everybody's still wanting an NCAA tournament bid, obviously, and I
- 12:49Speaker 3: think that's still possible, but it just looks bleaker and
- 12:51Speaker 3: bleaker every time we lose one of these games.
- 12:55Speaker 2: If I had to say right now, I would if
- 12:57Speaker 2: I had to put money on it, I'd say, we
- 12:59Speaker 2: make the tournament, lose round.
- 13:00Speaker 5: One, wow four. I'm the opposite. I'm the opposite. I
- 13:08Speaker 5: think there's a chance. I'm just I lean more towards
- 13:10Speaker 5: NOE right now.
- 13:12Speaker 6: See, so you think they win tomorrow, Austin.
- 13:15Speaker 2: I think they went one of the last two, and
- 13:17Speaker 2: I think that's enough to get us in the last four.
- 13:20Speaker 3: What I'm scared of is losing tomorrow, beating Iowa, and
- 13:24Speaker 3: then losing first round of the Big Ten tournament. And
- 13:28Speaker 3: I think that could be a plausible scenario, or losing, winning, winning, losing,
- 13:34Speaker 3: getting going nineteen and fourteen and not getting into I
- 13:38Speaker 3: think that would be that would be the true bubble
- 13:41Speaker 3: bubble right there, that scenario in my mind.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Now did you see in the projection right now? Who
- 13:49Speaker 4: also is in the first four is Nebraska?
- 13:52Speaker 6: Oh yeah, you said at the beginning of the year.
- 13:55Speaker 6: Wun't that be sweet to be the first one? There
- 13:57Speaker 6: you go?
- 13:59Speaker 4: Well, they suck, they are They make your eyes bleed too,
- 14:03Speaker 4: though they are not fun to watch, like I watched
- 14:07Speaker 4: some brask watchrop Homine like these are the same exact team.
- 14:10Speaker 3: But I mean, everyone's gonna talk about whether if we
- 14:13Speaker 3: do get up one of those first four games in
- 14:15Speaker 3: Dayton and play that game, if that counts. I mean
- 14:18Speaker 3: it counts, it does. It's part of the tournament. It's
- 14:21Speaker 3: just not the same feeling.
- 14:22Speaker 2: It's not how you want to get your first tournament win.
- 14:24Speaker 6: No, no, But.
- 14:26Speaker 5: If it gainst Oklahoma, for sure, damn counts.
- 14:29Speaker 6: You'd have to go.
- 14:31Speaker 3: I'm going where if we make it, I'm going regardless, wherever, whenever.
- 14:35Speaker 5: So that's just up to you to go.
- 14:38Speaker 6: Now, I'm out. If it's dating, I'm out. I'm not
- 14:42Speaker 6: going to first four game.
- 14:45Speaker 5: It could be all of the time.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't think I made the mistake. After we
- 14:52Speaker 2: lost six in a row, I was like, screw it,
- 14:54Speaker 2: I'm gonna sign up for a curling tournament the first weekend.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Like we're not making it. I'm out. Have we turned
- 15:02Speaker 2: it around?
- 15:02Speaker 5: And that's what's been weird.
- 15:03Speaker 2: It's been.
- 15:04Speaker 3: It was like up then we looked horrible, then we
- 15:06Speaker 3: got back up again, and now we're back to the.
- 15:10Speaker 5: Can we can we get get it back up here?
- 15:12Speaker 2: How we play offense? I guess we don't. I mean,
- 15:21Speaker 2: this is premature. I was gonna say, Fred Hoiberg, temperature check.
- 15:27Speaker 6: I mean, the crowd was pissed. I heard a lot
- 15:31Speaker 6: of fire.
- 15:33Speaker 3: I was not going to bring it up because I
- 15:35Speaker 3: knew it probably wasn't the time to talk about it.
- 15:36Speaker 3: But I've heard the rumblings, and now that you brought
- 15:39Speaker 3: it up, let's we can talk about it.
- 15:41Speaker 5: Let's talk about it.
- 15:44Speaker 2: I I don't think you fire him after this year
- 15:49Speaker 2: if we don't make the tournament, but the seed is hot.
- 15:54Speaker 5: Lost loss in the year, not make the big ten tournament.
- 15:59Speaker 6: I've said, it's all along. Who are gonna get that's better?
- 16:04Speaker 5: I'll tell you. I'll tell you who I thought of
- 16:06Speaker 5: two years ago that I was hot on.
- 16:09Speaker 6: Quarter Moser.
- 16:11Speaker 5: Nope, Rick, and guess what we thought.
- 16:16Speaker 3: We don't want Rick Patino comes with too much baggage,
- 16:19Speaker 3: all this stuff.
- 16:20Speaker 5: Well looking now people look what he's done. That's true,
- 16:26Speaker 5: he was. I don't know, he's not coming here anymore.
- 16:28Speaker 2: But that.
- 16:31Speaker 5: Was who I wanted to. I don't know.
- 16:36Speaker 3: I don't Again, it's going back to the conversation, who
- 16:38Speaker 3: are you gonna get who you want? I don't know,
- 16:40Speaker 3: I don't care. But what's what what we have is stale.
- 16:43Speaker 3: It's gone stale. So that's what That's what ultimately with
- 16:46Speaker 3: a lot of coaching changes happen is when is when
- 16:50Speaker 3: you stop seeing growth and improvement or you start seeing
- 16:53Speaker 3: obviously downfalls of teams or people just become stale and
- 16:59Speaker 3: like that. I wasn't that the game, but you said
- 17:00Speaker 3: may people were upset frustrated. That's usually where it starts, especially.
- 17:05Speaker 5: From Husker fans.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Maybe Bill Solf will be on the market. He had
- 17:08Speaker 2: to come out and put a statement after I lost
- 17:10Speaker 2: the game.
- 17:12Speaker 5: Maybe they're playing well right now against Houston the.
- 17:15Speaker 4: Predicative that predictive of five seed, and he asked him
- 17:19Speaker 4: out and have a statement about sorry that how bad they're.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Playing, yeah, playing well against now.
- 17:29Speaker 4: I don't think there's any suction fire Hoy Harberg especially
- 17:32Speaker 4: give one more year, like, I just do not see
- 17:34Speaker 4: he can get that would be better.
- 17:36Speaker 3: But see this is where that I disagreed completely with that.
- 17:41Speaker 3: How long you're going to keep saying one more year,
- 17:43Speaker 3: one more year, one more year, one more year. And
- 17:45Speaker 3: when you keep when you all, I mean, you're not
- 17:47Speaker 3: the only one. People just say, who else are you
- 17:49Speaker 3: going to get? I don't know, but give someone a
- 17:52Speaker 3: fresh try and start.
- 17:54Speaker 5: I don't.
- 17:55Speaker 3: I'm so sick and tired of, especially Nebraska, thinking we
- 17:59Speaker 3: have to hire the next big name coach that everybody
- 18:04Speaker 3: knows and as a resume, like I don't take a flyer.
- 18:07Speaker 2: On you know, South Dakota State coaches.
- 18:09Speaker 3: I want some young, motive football too. Again, we have
- 18:12Speaker 3: rule and that's going the way it's going. I I
- 18:16Speaker 3: we don't you don't need to hire I like coaches
- 18:18Speaker 3: that have motivation, that want to earn themselves. Nebraska is not,
- 18:21Speaker 3: especially in basketball, is not a program that you come
- 18:25Speaker 3: here to to end your career here. That's not what
- 18:31Speaker 3: you're doing Nebraska basketball, especially you are. We I want
- 18:35Speaker 3: somebody with motivation a young guy and the next step up.
- 18:39Speaker 3: I kind of said that with football a little bit too,
- 18:41Speaker 3: like I get it and rule is probably the best
- 18:44Speaker 3: scenario case of those, But I didn't want necessarily even
- 18:47Speaker 3: like an urban Meyer, like a guy that you know
- 18:50Speaker 3: what if he's if he comes in him for a
- 18:52Speaker 3: year or two and things aren't working out, he's just
- 18:54Speaker 3: kind of gonna say, f at, my, my life's been great.
- 18:58Speaker 5: See yeah, Like I feel like that's when you're at
- 19:00Speaker 5: that point.
- 19:01Speaker 3: A lot of those coaches, that's how they kind of
- 19:03Speaker 3: think and and and Hoiberg's done a good job of
- 19:05Speaker 3: trying to keep things fresh and motivated. But I I
- 19:10Speaker 3: hate the excuse me, who else are you gonna get?
- 19:12Speaker 3: I hate that is that is my least favorite line
- 19:14Speaker 3: to ever hear when it comes to coaching searches, because
- 19:16Speaker 3: we don't know. Unless you've done extensive research on mid
- 19:20Speaker 3: major type coaches, you have no idea who's out there.
- 19:23Speaker 6: And I don't know about you guys, I haven't exactly.
- 19:26Speaker 3: That's why you say that, And you just say it
- 19:27Speaker 3: like you you know what you're talking about, where you
- 19:29Speaker 3: have no idea you.
- 19:32Speaker 7: Know would be wild who went on got like like
- 19:37Speaker 7: Kim Mulky or something like don you know, like, uh,
- 19:42Speaker 7: like I just throwing guy out there.
- 19:44Speaker 3: I don't even know who it is, but the Drake,
- 19:46Speaker 3: Drake's head coach too there there there right now, you know,
- 19:50Speaker 3: win the Missouri Valley pretty handily and looking to be
- 19:53Speaker 3: a tournament team. There's always two to three to four
- 19:56Speaker 3: coaches that you know, a twelve seed or eleven seed
- 19:59Speaker 3: or and lower that make a run out of in
- 20:01Speaker 3: the tournament. That those are the kind of guys that
- 20:04Speaker 3: I like, I would love to take a flyer on
- 20:06Speaker 3: versus saying, well, let's just give it one more year.
- 20:08Speaker 5: We know what we're.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Gonna get next year with Horberg, we know exactly what
- 20:11Speaker 3: we're gonna get. We're gonna get a bunch of transfers
- 20:15Speaker 3: in that everyone's gonna think, Okay, these guys could be good.
- 20:17Speaker 5: We're gonna piece something together. We're gonna try to fit
- 20:18Speaker 5: this puzzle.
- 20:19Speaker 3: We're gonna see if we're gonna make the tournament again,
- 20:21Speaker 3: and great, that's what we're after.
- 20:23Speaker 5: But if it fails again, then why are we gonna
- 20:27Speaker 5: keep trying that approach when we could bring somebody else
- 20:29Speaker 5: in with a fresh face that can give us something
- 20:33Speaker 5: potential there and might that might fail too, but it's
- 20:35Speaker 5: better than just going through the same cycle that we've
- 20:37Speaker 5: gone through over the last five six years.
- 20:40Speaker 2: That's kind of what we do with ten Miles correct, correct,
- 20:44Speaker 2: and it worked until it didn't.
- 20:47Speaker 4: I guess, yeah, he he got fired against the same
- 20:51Speaker 4: way Hoburgers, which you feel like it's just you're stuck
- 20:54Speaker 4: in the same position.
- 20:55Speaker 6: That's what Miles.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Got fired, right, We get right up to the bubble
- 20:59Speaker 2: and then we just would there.
- 21:01Speaker 5: Yeah, now, now what's crazy? This is how funny this is.
- 21:07Speaker 3: We're also what winning two three, So it gets I'm
- 21:12Speaker 3: gonna go back to my twenty win scenario, winning three
- 21:15Speaker 3: and then plus one. We're also four games away from
- 21:18Speaker 3: Hoiberg being a legendary coach Nebraska because he won our
- 21:23Speaker 3: first tournament game. I mean, that's that's the other way
- 21:26Speaker 3: of thinking of it, that that's still in reach.
- 21:29Speaker 5: And you do that.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Conversation earlier in the year of like he could become
- 21:34Speaker 2: the best coach in Nebraska history, and I obviously.
- 21:38Speaker 3: The one that puts that tournament win out there will
- 21:41Speaker 3: be regardless of what you've done leading up to that.
- 21:45Speaker 5: So that's what's wild.
- 21:46Speaker 3: You could have the conversation both ways, and there's only
- 21:51Speaker 3: two games left in the regular season, and we could
- 21:54Speaker 3: one way it could be the.
- 21:56Speaker 5: Fired get a new guy, or the other way. He's
- 21:59Speaker 5: the best coach.
- 22:01Speaker 2: I mean if he if he wins one tournament game,
- 22:03Speaker 2: that that feasibly buys him two more years.
- 22:05Speaker 5: Agreed.
- 22:05Speaker 4: Oh yeah, well, Hunter, you can't tell me lean that
- 22:08Speaker 4: stadium after the first game we went to that you
- 22:11Speaker 4: thought this team would be sitting really are now at
- 22:13Speaker 4: the end the year?
- 22:17Speaker 5: I would I I wouldn't say it changed that much.
- 22:21Speaker 3: I mean, it was the first game of the year,
- 22:23Speaker 3: and I was not surprised, but that was one game
- 22:26Speaker 3: I mean against I don't even know how that team's
- 22:28Speaker 3: doing now.
- 22:30Speaker 5: They they didn't look good. But it last year.
- 22:34Speaker 3: I went to their first game against Doane, the exhibition game,
- 22:38Speaker 3: and they were down like fifteen to eight through like
- 22:41Speaker 3: eight minutes, like what blanket.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Hunter came on the podcast and it was just we went.
- 22:46Speaker 3: We went to the tournament that year, So I don't
- 22:48Speaker 3: I wasn't thinking, like, I'm not surprised where we're at.
- 22:51Speaker 3: Like Austin' said at the top of the show, it
- 22:54Speaker 3: was we all probably had us around this twenty win mark,
- 22:57Speaker 3: like right around here, and we did.
- 23:02Speaker 2: It. Just sucks on how we got there. All right,
- 23:08Speaker 2: let's move.
- 23:08Speaker 5: It's March. But I love it. I love March. I
- 23:11Speaker 5: love college college basketball.
- 23:13Speaker 3: Now is getting close to conference tournament time, a lot
- 23:16Speaker 3: of them starting up. I love just following and watching
- 23:18Speaker 3: all those and obviously the tournament and.
- 23:22Speaker 5: All that.
- 23:23Speaker 3: So March is one of my favorite months of the
- 23:25Speaker 3: year for good reason.
- 23:29Speaker 6: This week in three aprils the best time of the year.
- 23:34Speaker 5: We should I know we've done this before but won't
- 23:36Speaker 5: do it tonight, but.
- 23:37Speaker 2: The best sports season.
- 23:39Speaker 3: These months and seasons, because I there's there's the Bates
- 23:41Speaker 3: I it is, it is, this is probably it might
- 23:45Speaker 3: be my top, but there's some other months that are
- 23:47Speaker 3: pretty dam We did.
- 23:48Speaker 2: We did that draft during COVID. I want to say
- 23:50Speaker 2: October was up there because you had yeahs, NFL college
- 23:55Speaker 2: football and baseball and hockey.
- 23:59Speaker 5: NBA kicking It's yeah, it's there's a lot there.
- 24:03Speaker 4: I think from this weekend until well you go straight
- 24:08Speaker 4: so you go your March madness, the Masters and then
- 24:12Speaker 4: starting to be a playoffs. I think, yeah, I think
- 24:18Speaker 4: it's the best. But then back to me first season
- 24:23Speaker 4: college football.
- 24:24Speaker 6: Firstly, I'll think it's the best.
- 24:30Speaker 3: All right, while we're still in college basketball and we
- 24:33Speaker 3: don't got to go through a whole little thing here.
- 24:34Speaker 3: I didn't just want to talk about what you guys
- 24:36Speaker 3: thought about the toughest Big Ten arenas to play in
- 24:40Speaker 3: road road environments. I just saw Big Ten Conference posted
- 24:45Speaker 3: one of their interview videos with all the coaches and
- 24:47Speaker 3: there's a couple of pretty common ones that came up.
- 24:49Speaker 5: But you guys see.
- 24:51Speaker 3: That video, I did not, Nope, So this will be
- 24:54Speaker 3: kind of Fred to see what you guys think if
- 24:57Speaker 3: he's want to throw some out there, some of the
- 24:59Speaker 3: tough toughest play is to play. There's one predominant one
- 25:02Speaker 3: that I mean, I think they are all the eighteen
- 25:05Speaker 3: coaches I would say probably at least ten, if not
- 25:09Speaker 3: closer to fifteen said this one one arena, Assembly Hall,
- 25:16Speaker 3: No and No Purdue, Purdue and Mackie Area.
- 25:20Speaker 6: That's backtly my top three right there, Indiana and Purdue,
- 25:24Speaker 6: Michigan State.
- 25:25Speaker 3: And Indiana was who Matt Painter said, and a couple
- 25:27Speaker 3: others said Michigan.
- 25:29Speaker 2: State is gonna be a little feisty.
- 25:31Speaker 5: They didn't get any votes. By the coaches.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Would you say, Austin Pbak.
- 25:38Speaker 5: I can't remember.
- 25:39Speaker 3: One of the newer coaches from out west said, uh.
- 25:43Speaker 5: Rutgers is from what he heard.
- 25:45Speaker 3: He's like, I haven't played there, but he said Rutgers,
- 25:48Speaker 3: which I I mean Jersey Mike's arena in the rack.
- 25:51Speaker 3: I guess Nebraska's had their fair sheriff struggles there, just
- 25:54Speaker 3: unique environment. But Michigan State Indiana were the other two
- 25:59Speaker 3: that got thrown out there the most. I don't even
- 26:03Speaker 3: know if anybody else got mentioned, but pretty consensus.
- 26:07Speaker 5: I thought.
- 26:08Speaker 4: I thought the Rutgers one was funny. I think I
- 26:12Speaker 4: think PBA has gotta be one of the nicest. I
- 26:15Speaker 4: don't know about the atmosphere.
- 26:16Speaker 5: Wise, I agree, it's not it is not a.
- 26:20Speaker 3: The ones that were mentioning assembly hall, I can't remember
- 26:24Speaker 3: the fieldhouse at Michigan State's name. They're all like, I
- 26:28Speaker 3: don't know their college arenas their college. PBA is more
- 26:31Speaker 3: more professionalized, looks like more of an NBA arena versus
- 26:35Speaker 3: a true college arena like some of these other arms.
- 26:42Speaker 6: Okay, now, okay, wait, easily the worst arena oregan get
- 26:48Speaker 6: to that court.
- 26:50Speaker 2: I don't mind it.
- 26:54Speaker 6: Oh, I hate watching it.
- 26:57Speaker 2: I don't know what the worst one would be.
- 26:58Speaker 4: And and do you remember that crowd when Nebraska played there?
- 27:01Speaker 4: That yeah, that was they have to be the worst.
- 27:07Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 27:07Speaker 4: USC and LA can get really bad too if they're
- 27:10Speaker 4: if their teams are bad.
- 27:11Speaker 5: Yeah, I was gonna say some of those.
- 27:12Speaker 3: And I don't know like Big Ten wise, I mean,
- 27:15Speaker 3: I feel like Northwestern's.
- 27:16Speaker 6: Not ever no, yeah.
- 27:20Speaker 5: Anything when it comes to fans bases.
- 27:22Speaker 3: But.
- 27:24Speaker 6: The Barn up Minnesota, that place can get rocking.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I've never been to I've never been to
- 27:34Speaker 2: an away basketball game.
- 27:36Speaker 5: I went, That's true.
- 27:37Speaker 2: I went to a neutral site game against k State
- 27:40Speaker 2: in Kansas City.
- 27:42Speaker 6: I guess I have only been.
- 27:45Speaker 5: Manhattan.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Last year.
- 27:47Speaker 3: We didn't go to Nebraska went to a per new
- 27:49Speaker 3: exhibition game when we were out there for the football
- 27:51Speaker 3: brasket football game?
- 27:52Speaker 2: Did that?
- 27:54Speaker 3: So been in there? But yeah, as far as Nebraska
- 27:57Speaker 3: road games, not much. Let's move on NFL Draft combine
- 28:03Speaker 3: updates here with you guys, and just thoughts, general thoughts
- 28:07Speaker 3: on it.
- 28:09Speaker 5: You know what, I think they all helped themselves. I
- 28:12Speaker 5: think I agree, like I don't.
- 28:13Speaker 3: I don't think you could argue the opposite way, Tyer
- 28:16Speaker 3: Robinson had a really really strong day, especially with his
- 28:19Speaker 3: forty yard dash time. I would never have thought he
- 28:22Speaker 3: has a virtual jump with thirty three and a half inches,
- 28:24Speaker 3: but he does for me in six five to eighty eight,
- 28:27Speaker 3: which when I heard that, I'm like, I thought he
- 28:30Speaker 3: was bigger than that, which I think he's lost twenty pounds.
- 28:35Speaker 2: That's why he's so quick and could jump so high.
- 28:37Speaker 3: Yeah, So whether that be what he's going to play at,
- 28:41Speaker 3: I don't know. Maybe that's what he was told he
- 28:43Speaker 3: needs to be playing at in the NFL. That's what
- 28:44Speaker 3: I had to guess. So he had a very good showing.
- 28:47Speaker 3: Fidoni and Isaiah and a Are also had good showings.
- 28:50Speaker 3: And Tommy Hill, the other one that will be in
- 28:53Speaker 3: the draft, he didn't do any testing, but I think
- 28:56Speaker 3: they all help their cases. And what's so hard about this,
- 29:01Speaker 3: and this happens every year when it comes to draft time.
- 29:03Speaker 3: If we have guys in the draft, is if they
- 29:06Speaker 3: test well. I'm thinking of offensive linemen off the top
- 29:09Speaker 3: of my head that then go on and have good
- 29:11Speaker 3: NFL careers. It's like, well, what the hell do we
- 29:13Speaker 3: do with the Matt Nebraska? Like, why do we not
- 29:17Speaker 3: make use of them. I'm sure that conversation will get
- 29:21Speaker 3: brought up. I mean they Or is probably the bigger one.
- 29:24Speaker 3: In the one year that we had him, we really
- 29:26Speaker 3: didn't use him. If he ends up getting drafted, I
- 29:28Speaker 3: don't know that he will maybe late late around Ty
- 29:31Speaker 3: Robinson I thought had a very solid career at Nebraska.
- 29:34Speaker 2: He did.
- 29:35Speaker 5: He was one of our defensive leaders this year.
- 29:38Speaker 2: YAHDONI was just marred by injuries.
- 29:42Speaker 3: And I expect he probably will continue to be that.
- 29:45Speaker 5: So like good for those guys, I mean having good,
- 29:48Speaker 5: good days.
- 29:49Speaker 3: I don't have many more thoughts on on their performance
- 29:53Speaker 3: or where Like I've heard Fiddoni potentially being a Day
- 29:57Speaker 3: two or not, Fidoni tithing into potential a Day two
- 30:01Speaker 3: round round two or three guy as kind of his ceiling,
- 30:05Speaker 3: I think Fidoni, you know it's he's your mid to
- 30:08Speaker 3: late late round. And then Tommy Hill is probably in
- 30:11Speaker 3: there somewhere late round as well.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Which he dropped off. Heear he was projected like first
- 30:20Speaker 2: round going into the year.
- 30:26Speaker 4: Too many injuries, dak no thoughts on Nope, did not
- 30:33Speaker 4: did not watch the combine or look up anything about it.
- 30:36Speaker 6: So I have there's one thing.
- 30:40Speaker 4: Did you guys see Will Howard's I should note it
- 30:44Speaker 4: was the worst.
- 30:45Speaker 6: Performance I've ever saw a quarterback have at of protate.
- 30:48Speaker 6: They not the combine I did.
- 30:50Speaker 5: I did hear about it. I didn't see it, but yes.
- 30:52Speaker 4: You have to have to watch watch that video after.
- 30:54Speaker 4: It was awful, easily the worst. Like I don't I
- 30:58Speaker 4: thought he was gonna be okay. I think that might
- 31:00Speaker 4: have dropped him, like three or four rounds.
- 31:02Speaker 3: Is that bad?
- 31:06Speaker 2: Huge energy? I feel like he's yeah, you know, he'll
- 31:12Speaker 2: get drafted, but then he'll just be it, serve as
- 31:15Speaker 2: a backup practice squad guy for a couple of years
- 31:17Speaker 2: and then disappear.
- 31:22Speaker 6: And that's my combine wrap up right there.
- 31:27Speaker 5: Last topic here I want to bring up.
- 31:29Speaker 3: And I believe this has probably been about a full
- 31:31Speaker 3: week ago since the news came out about Nebraska hiring
- 31:36Speaker 3: Pat Stewart as the new GM, which we have a
- 31:40Speaker 3: GM last year in set and Patten he's still going
- 31:43Speaker 3: to have a role and on the staff more it
- 31:47Speaker 3: sounds like maybe like a remote type and dealing a
- 31:51Speaker 3: lot more with the financial piece side of things. And
- 31:54Speaker 3: then Pat Stewart coming from well he had he has
- 31:58Speaker 3: Patriots experience with him under Belichick has been the big
- 32:02Speaker 3: recurring theme that I've been hearing, and this brings up
- 32:07Speaker 3: a larger topic of conversation of obviously college football and
- 32:12Speaker 3: where everything is going. Nebraska obviously being still one of
- 32:17Speaker 3: the call them the blue blood people probably argue that,
- 32:21Speaker 3: but big brand in the college football landscape.
- 32:28Speaker 5: Everything's moving fast.
- 32:29Speaker 3: Nobody knows where it really is going, and it's changing constantly,
- 32:34Speaker 3: and it's going to continue to do that over the
- 32:36Speaker 3: next few years. I want to get your guys' gauge on.
- 32:40Speaker 3: I mean, with this hiring of this GM, making it
- 32:42Speaker 3: a little more NFL like, which we all said, it's
- 32:45Speaker 3: moving that way on a scale of like being.
- 32:49Speaker 5: One being lagging behind the times, two ten being.
- 32:57Speaker 3: We're the leader forefront of of making proactive decisions with
- 33:04Speaker 3: everything that's going on. Where where would you play Nebraska
- 33:08Speaker 3: sports in general, but mainly targeting football.
- 33:13Speaker 2: I feel like we're in the middle.
- 33:15Speaker 4: That's gonna say. The the GM thing has kind of
- 33:19Speaker 4: just started up, but.
- 33:21Speaker 2: You've heard of other people having the g.
- 33:23Speaker 6: Yeah, so they're definitely the leader in it, but they're
- 33:26Speaker 6: like they're falling, like it's getting big now and they
- 33:29Speaker 6: I feel like you hired you right right in the
- 33:31Speaker 6: middle of the pack. When starting everyone's starting to get one.
- 33:35Speaker 6: So what's the number six?
- 33:41Speaker 2: Uh yeah, seven?
- 33:46Speaker 3: Yeah, So I guess I was going to say a
- 33:49Speaker 3: seven as well, but I was going to frame it
- 33:51Speaker 3: more as and I feel like we're on the forefront edge,
- 33:54Speaker 3: the front front edge versus the middle seven or eight
- 33:57Speaker 3: is where I was thinking.
- 33:58Speaker 5: And I think that we're making.
- 34:01Speaker 3: A lot of moves because we feel like it's what
- 34:06Speaker 3: needs to happen now, what needs to happen and what.
- 34:11Speaker 5: Actually leads to success two different things.
- 34:14Speaker 3: It still comes down to winning on the football field,
- 34:16Speaker 3: and we have not done that still over several years.
- 34:21Speaker 3: But we still have the resources and the support right
- 34:25Speaker 3: now to be funding and supporting a hopefully a powerhouse
- 34:33Speaker 3: type of program. I think all these moves are as
- 34:37Speaker 3: a result of that. Who knows, maybe five ten years
- 34:42Speaker 3: down the road, we're going to look back and say, no,
- 34:43Speaker 3: Nebraska was actually like leading that for packed in a
- 34:46Speaker 3: lot of these things, but we don't know that, mainly
- 34:51Speaker 3: because I don't know what other schools are doing, but
- 34:53Speaker 3: just hearing what Nebraska does just through some of the
- 34:55Speaker 3: daily podcast, weekly podcasts, and news that we hear in
- 34:59Speaker 3: the offseason, rascat, it feels like we're making a lot
- 35:03Speaker 3: of decisions and framing that I guess in a positive light,
- 35:07Speaker 3: which what's new, that's what we do.
- 35:10Speaker 2: I will say, when I heard this, I felt good
- 35:13Speaker 2: about it. You know, it's like our Patriots had been
- 35:17Speaker 2: a pretty good organization for a long time. My other
- 35:21Speaker 2: thought was, damn, how many people are gonna have in
- 35:23Speaker 2: are freaking building. We gotta we got Phil snow up there.
- 35:29Speaker 2: They were keeping the previous general manager. They got the
- 35:32Speaker 2: new general manager. We have four offensive coordinators, two defensive coordinators.
- 35:40Speaker 3: So here's here's my thought to try to explain that
- 35:45Speaker 3: as long as you have the vision and structure and
- 35:50Speaker 3: place and the responsibilities clearly laid out, I don't ever
- 35:55Speaker 3: see a problem in more as better. Some people I
- 35:58Speaker 3: think disagree with that. Were when when you start talking
- 36:01Speaker 3: about too many cooks in the kitchen. I know we've
- 36:04Speaker 3: had that conversation on here before. But if the if
- 36:07Speaker 3: the structure and the responsibilities are laid out in a
- 36:11Speaker 3: way that leads success, then I always think more is
- 36:14Speaker 3: better because you have more diversity of thoughts and opinions.
- 36:19Speaker 3: What's fascinating with this all you're getting, you're growing in
- 36:23Speaker 3: that way, you're actually cutting players in the actual people
- 36:29Speaker 3: that are doing the playing for you. That that's good,
- 36:33Speaker 3: and so you're you're managing a smaller group of people
- 36:35Speaker 3: with a larger amount of people. That's where I think
- 36:39Speaker 3: something that might get overlooked. Now these gms and these
- 36:43Speaker 3: personnel directors and coordinators and help all these offensive coordinators
- 36:48Speaker 3: and defensive court that we have on our staff, they
- 36:51Speaker 3: can now focus more on silos of people, and especially
- 36:56Speaker 3: in recruiting, especially in NIL like I've heard so many
- 37:00Speaker 3: comparisons and people are just probably trying to put a
- 37:02Speaker 3: thought on it, just like we are. Of the high
- 37:05Speaker 3: school recruitings like the draft, and you can't go out
- 37:09Speaker 3: and pay sign for sign rookies and pay a buck.
- 37:13Speaker 3: You got to pick and choose which rookies you're signing
- 37:15Speaker 3: the massive deals and you want to keep around. You
- 37:18Speaker 3: got to be very strategic in your high school players
- 37:21Speaker 3: on who you're paying the big NIL deals for because
- 37:23Speaker 3: you don't you can't afford one roster space but then
- 37:27Speaker 3: financially too to bring all of those people in and
- 37:31Speaker 3: have a bunch of walk ons, and you can't have
- 37:33Speaker 3: some random guy from Lincoln. He said, Hey, I'm gonna
- 37:35Speaker 3: go to Nebraska and let's check this out. Like you
- 37:37Speaker 3: got to spend your time and your time like when
- 37:40Speaker 3: they come and recruit, like to make it about the
- 37:42Speaker 3: recruits that you actually really really want and make it
- 37:45Speaker 3: really special for them. That's where I think all these
- 37:47Speaker 3: people come into play as far as all of that
- 37:50Speaker 3: organization and coordination goes, which is new. It's brand new
- 37:54Speaker 3: to college football, but it's more like NFL scouting combines
- 37:59Speaker 3: free you can see in the draft, Like that's what
- 38:02Speaker 3: the comparison is more too. And I completely agree with
- 38:04Speaker 3: the way it's going because the contracts are coming, which
- 38:06Speaker 3: is also NFL based.
- 38:08Speaker 2: Mm hmm, I mean, yeah, that's honestly what I think.
- 38:11Speaker 2: We're prepping for his contracts. That's why you bring in
- 38:15Speaker 2: a general manager and you keep your other general manager
- 38:18Speaker 2: on because you know someone's gonna be in charge of
- 38:20Speaker 2: the contracts and the negotiating and then all that stuff.
- 38:28Speaker 4: Yeah, do you guys, how long do you think it'll
- 38:31Speaker 4: be until these contracts aren't happening?
- 38:33Speaker 2: Two years?
- 38:34Speaker 5: Yeah, I was gonna say less than five.
- 38:37Speaker 6: Yeah, I think it's gona be.
- 38:38Speaker 4: Really soon here and that's mostly just because you're trying
- 38:42Speaker 4: to get rid of that transfer portal. I think like
- 38:44Speaker 4: it is now leave everyone can leave after one year,
- 38:47Speaker 4: but now you signed his contracts. You want players stick
- 38:51Speaker 4: around for two or three years.
- 38:54Speaker 5: And this is the other fun piece that goes along
- 38:56Speaker 5: with that.
- 38:56Speaker 3: You mentioning a lot of guys you know, going somewhere
- 38:58Speaker 3: and leaving a lot of times when you're recruiting, right
- 39:02Speaker 3: you are in a recruiting battle for a high school kid.
- 39:04Speaker 3: There's five schools left, you get knocked out. When they
- 39:07Speaker 3: cut down to three, you go, okay, well, not going
- 39:09Speaker 3: to get that guy. What's funny about it now is
- 39:12Speaker 3: that you keep those guys in the radar, you keep
- 39:14Speaker 3: talking with you. In a year, depending on how their
- 39:18Speaker 3: situation goes, you're back on the market for him. And
- 39:21Speaker 3: there's a reason you're in their top five. So it
- 39:24Speaker 3: just opens up so many more jobs in types of
- 39:27Speaker 3: situations that could happen with the portal. And that's where again,
- 39:32Speaker 3: teams that do it the right way and are on
- 39:34Speaker 3: the cutting edge and leading edge of it, they're going
- 39:37Speaker 3: to see more success. And we have to take advantage
- 39:40Speaker 3: of that time that we have while we're still having
- 39:44Speaker 3: the resources for us at Nebraska like to move up
- 39:50Speaker 3: in that in that ranking, which ultimately starts with winning
- 39:54Speaker 3: games come fall.
- 39:59Speaker 2: Okay, got to start winn You know it's great that
- 40:01Speaker 2: I keep announcing new hire, new position.
- 40:06Speaker 6: I mean, recruiting really doesn't even like recruiting freshmen to
- 40:10Speaker 6: come in doesn't even really matter anymore.
- 40:12Speaker 2: It does for select positions.
- 40:16Speaker 6: Yeah, but I think we talked about this earlier in
- 40:20Speaker 6: their football season. I think the Portals.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Guys are going to play day one.
- 40:26Speaker 3: It's done for your select positions. But what are the positions?
- 40:31Speaker 3: That's that's what these people are getting hired for to
- 40:34Speaker 3: figure out. Like I just my own opinion, I think
- 40:37Speaker 3: wide receivers I would not ever try to recruit high
- 40:40Speaker 3: schoolers wide receivers.
- 40:41Speaker 5: I don't think. I don't.
- 40:42Speaker 3: I don't even think that that's a question you the
- 40:44Speaker 3: portal there's so many of them. There's so many guys
- 40:46Speaker 3: that come from Division two three that have great two
- 40:51Speaker 3: years there, that are ready to take the next step
- 40:53Speaker 3: like that. That to me is one position you don't
- 40:55Speaker 3: target in high school. I think that's where these people
- 41:01Speaker 3: are deciding though on those kids. And I that to
- 41:05Speaker 3: your point, I think high school kids are it is.
- 41:07Speaker 3: It's just like the NFL draft or the NBA draft,
- 41:09Speaker 3: right you can build your team on two ways. You
- 41:12Speaker 3: can just free agent it every year and make trades.
- 41:16Speaker 3: And I'm not saying trades are coming, but I think
- 41:19Speaker 3: a lot of this nil transfers kind of like it
- 41:23Speaker 3: where you are just you just continue to reload like
- 41:26Speaker 3: Fred's done for our basketball team, or you tank and
- 41:32Speaker 3: you get a lot of a lot of picks. Now
- 41:34Speaker 3: that scenarios not non existent right now, I'm not sure
- 41:37Speaker 3: how you would ever get there when it comes from
- 41:41Speaker 3: draft picks and high school kids. But high school high
- 41:44Speaker 3: school recruiting is a little more like draft where yeah,
- 41:46Speaker 3: you're not going to build a whole team, but you
- 41:48Speaker 3: could hit a gem if you if you if you
- 41:51Speaker 3: do it the right way when it's.
- 41:59Speaker 5: When gotta win.
- 42:01Speaker 3: That's funny how that's not changed over the last six years. Okay, Well,
- 42:08Speaker 3: it's big week for Nebraska basketball and women play.
- 42:13Speaker 5: I believe is it tomorrow or Wednesday? First round?
- 42:16Speaker 2: I think it's Wednesday.
- 42:19Speaker 5: So they got the eleven seed.
- 42:21Speaker 3: I believe in the tournament they're very bubbly now they
- 42:26Speaker 3: should be in yeah.
- 42:29Speaker 5: But but but still they're a little bubbly.
- 42:32Speaker 3: So yeah, and then obviously the men two big games
- 42:38Speaker 3: here before.
- 42:41Speaker 6: We talked next, we gotta we gotta do the weight watch.
- 42:46Speaker 5: Oh yeah.
- 42:48Speaker 6: He did not help out the strap out at all
- 42:51Speaker 6: to say that wore a purple jump suit to the.
- 42:56Speaker 5: I'm I'm gonna and I will say it.
- 42:58Speaker 3: I don't care that that bugs me because it makes
- 43:01Speaker 3: it all about him, which whatever he tries to about
- 43:06Speaker 3: to make sure it's all about him, which again, win
- 43:08Speaker 3: games go right ahead.
- 43:09Speaker 5: I don't give a ship. But we aren't there yet.
- 43:16Speaker 5: His weight I did here.
- 43:18Speaker 3: I guess it was the coaches talked this last week
- 43:21Speaker 3: and they they made they gave specific examples about him
- 43:24Speaker 3: doing a lot of cardio and how he's there in
- 43:28Speaker 3: the morning and you know, they get there first and
- 43:30Speaker 3: he's he's in there riding the bike or you know.
- 43:33Speaker 5: So there's a talk.
- 43:35Speaker 3: They're not just amongst us, there is there is talk
- 43:38Speaker 3: that he's losing weight or needs to lose weight. I
- 43:44Speaker 3: can't tell you if he looks slimmer. That jacket was pretty, uh,
- 43:52Speaker 3: I was saying it was loose. As far as the
- 43:53Speaker 3: type of jacket that he was wearing.
- 43:56Speaker 6: Well, I don't.
- 43:58Speaker 4: I mean, you know you're coming the strap. He sat
- 44:01Speaker 4: front row right there. He's wearing that far he sticks
- 44:03Speaker 4: like it's more thumb. It was like, it's like, dude,
- 44:05Speaker 4: what are you doing?
- 44:08Speaker 6: I did. I didn't like him, but whatever.
- 44:13Speaker 2: Get rid of him. Yep, give me heindrich.
- 44:18Speaker 6: I'm fright. I didn't fire you up, Boston.
- 44:21Speaker 2: I didn't know until right now. To be honest, he look.
- 44:26Speaker 3: Like he was transferring to k State wearing that jacket,
- 44:29Speaker 3: is what it looked. I mean, it literally looked like
- 44:31Speaker 3: a key State jacket.
- 44:32Speaker 8: That light that reaction. Get rid of him to go
- 44:38Speaker 8: to ky State. Be a freaking student athlete, you know,
- 44:42Speaker 8: support your school. Where are the school colors?
- 44:44Speaker 2: How hard is it?
- 44:47Speaker 5: Especially when we're doing a stripe out that gotta be rating.
- 44:51Speaker 2: That's true, Paddy Warren white or red. I don't know
- 44:55Speaker 2: what section he was in.
- 44:57Speaker 4: I had no clue what color section I was in.
- 44:59Speaker 4: Thank god red and were in the red section. I
- 45:03Speaker 4: I thought my feet wearing white an't like, holy crap. Ba, Actually,
- 45:07Speaker 4: we are gonna stick out a smart time if we don't. Uh,
- 45:09Speaker 4: if we're not in the right section here, Nope, we're good.
- 45:15Speaker 5: All right, we'll be back next week.
- 45:17Speaker 6: Go bred g b R, go Big Red
- 46:01Speaker 4: BA
