- 0:02Speaker 1: To Teas in a Pod with Teddy Mellencamp and Camra Jedge.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Hi, guys, welcome to another episode of Two Teas and
- 0:18Speaker 2: a Pod.
- 0:19Speaker 3: It's myself, Teddy Mellencamp.
- 0:20Speaker 4: And them back so soon. It's Matt Lafary.
- 0:26Speaker 3: It's Matt Laffery, you guys.
- 0:29Speaker 2: I feel like there was a bunch of things we
- 0:30Speaker 2: needed to talk about, and I just wanted to kind
- 0:33Speaker 2: of give everybody a heads up where everything has been going. One.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Thank you for so graciously welcoming Matt who stepped in
- 0:40Speaker 2: for me. Because Matt is not only one of our producers,
- 0:44Speaker 2: he's one of truly one of my best friends, and
- 0:47Speaker 2: we talk about these shows at nauseum, so he knows
- 0:51Speaker 2: all my opinions, my hot takes, his hot takes, Erica's
- 0:54Speaker 2: hot takes, Tamra's hot takes on her shows like it's
- 0:58Speaker 2: just it's constant. So I'm so grateful to have such
- 1:03Speaker 2: an amazing production team that will allow me to still
- 1:07Speaker 2: be able to speak to you guys, even on days
- 1:09Speaker 2: that I can't.
- 1:11Speaker 3: So that's kind of the update. So a lot of things.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Have gone on in the last two days between what
- 1:19Speaker 2: happened at my house and me not being able to
- 1:21Speaker 2: show up for the POD, and there were two separate
- 1:26Speaker 2: instances and one thing that I really wanted to kind
- 1:30Speaker 2: of make clear, which I've tried my hardest to do
- 1:33Speaker 2: throughout this entire cancer journey, is one, yes, I have
- 1:39Speaker 2: stage four cancer. Two, I cannot control exactly how I
- 1:44Speaker 2: feel on each given day. Three On the days that
- 1:47Speaker 2: I feel really good, I want to take advantage of it,
- 1:50Speaker 2: and on the days I feel terrible, I have to
- 1:53Speaker 2: listen to my body. So that's kind of where we were.
- 1:56Speaker 2: So last week I went with my daughter to her
- 1:59Speaker 2: horse show. I only made it a day and a half.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I wasn't even riding myself. I was just gonna go
- 2:04Speaker 2: watch her. I even stayed in a camper on the
- 2:08Speaker 2: facility because I thought, Okay, then I can go back
- 2:11Speaker 2: and forth even though I'm not feeling good. Essentially, I
- 2:13Speaker 2: haven't been feeling good for about a month, which was
- 2:17Speaker 2: kind of shocking to me, and I think mentally did
- 2:19Speaker 2: a lot to me because.
- 2:21Speaker 3: I was like, what do you mean? I felt so
- 2:24Speaker 3: good right.
- 2:24Speaker 2: After the surgeries, and then when I was having radiation
- 2:28Speaker 2: and immune therapy, I was feeling good, So why am
- 2:31Speaker 2: I not able to do this right now, Like, why
- 2:35Speaker 2: do I feel like I can barely open my eyes
- 2:37Speaker 2: or keep my words straight?
- 2:38Speaker 3: And I kind of learned why this week at the doctors.
- 2:44Speaker 2: So the day I missed, I went straight to Like
- 2:48Speaker 2: it's not in an er because it's my regular doctor's office,
- 2:51Speaker 2: but I went for an emergency appointment. I'd been having
- 2:54Speaker 2: some thyroid issues, so that put me on some medication
- 2:56Speaker 2: for that. So I know that Matt and Eric said
- 3:00Speaker 2: a little bit about something about immunotherapy, how it can
- 3:04Speaker 2: affect your healthy cells and sometimes things change. Essentially, what
- 3:11Speaker 2: we figured out with me was, yes, I started out
- 3:14Speaker 2: feeling great, and I could do all the pods and
- 3:17Speaker 2: I could do all these things, and I could go
- 3:19Speaker 2: to all my daughter's horse shows and I could stay
- 3:21Speaker 2: at my house by myself, and I felt really strong.
- 3:26Speaker 2: And what's happening with me is the longer that I'm
- 3:31Speaker 2: on immunotherapy, the sicker it's making me. So for some people,
- 3:37Speaker 2: especially when they come from you know, having brain tumors removed, radiation, immunotherapy,
- 3:44Speaker 2: all of these things at once, that's when they feel
- 3:47Speaker 2: their worst. And I feel like even my friends that
- 3:49Speaker 2: are nurses or doctors were like, what the heck's going
- 3:51Speaker 2: on with Teddy?
- 3:51Speaker 3: How's she going to this horse show? How's she doing this?
- 3:54Speaker 2: But no, guys, like, it's really hit me, like these
- 3:57Speaker 2: are my hands and this is me trying to be
- 3:59Speaker 2: as calm as I possibly.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Can right now.
- 4:03Speaker 2: And so if I ever feel like I can't give
- 4:05Speaker 2: a good POD, I would rather have somebody step in
- 4:09Speaker 2: and do a good one, and do it on time
- 4:11Speaker 2: so that you're in the moment, because I know as
- 4:13Speaker 2: a viewer, that's how I like to watch it. I
- 4:16Speaker 2: don't like to watch two weeks of recap. I want
- 4:19Speaker 2: to watch what happened last night or the night before,
- 4:22Speaker 2: or whatever it may be. But so, what the doctors
- 4:25Speaker 2: have decided to do for me, because this immune therapy
- 4:28Speaker 2: has hit me so incredibly hard, is they are going
- 4:34Speaker 2: They did a bunch of scans and everything's looking good.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Everything's shrinking. They're not seeing a bunch but so it's
- 4:41Speaker 2: showing that why I medically feel so sick is from
- 4:45Speaker 2: the immunotherapy. So we're going to take a little break
- 4:49Speaker 2: on the immunotherapy to get my body back feeling stronger.
- 4:55Speaker 2: And I'm on steroids and we're doing everything that we
- 4:57Speaker 2: can to get me back to feeling like I, you know,
- 5:01Speaker 2: I can do this, I can do all the things,
- 5:04Speaker 2: and I think as listeners is, and I don't want
- 5:07Speaker 2: to fill your guys feed with cancer, you know, like
- 5:10Speaker 2: I know that that can be a depressing topic, but
- 5:12Speaker 2: I also want if you're going through something like this,
- 5:15Speaker 2: things are going to change and that's okay. The hardest
- 5:19Speaker 2: thing for me has been kind of the wake up
- 5:22Speaker 2: call of wow, I can't do what I did yesterday,
- 5:26Speaker 2: or Wow, I can't do what I did three weeks ago,
- 5:28Speaker 2: or for me today, wow I woke up and I'm
- 5:31Speaker 2: still shaking and stuff, but I have a lot of
- 5:33Speaker 2: energy today. Like in my mind, I'm like, I probably
- 5:35Speaker 2: could have done the pod today, which is why I'm
- 5:39Speaker 2: here talking to you guys right now.
- 5:40Speaker 3: So that's essentially what's going on.
- 5:43Speaker 2: I'm going to keep in close contact with all of
- 5:45Speaker 2: my different doctors and just take a little hold and
- 5:49Speaker 2: see if we can get my body more in check
- 5:52Speaker 2: so that I can be a touch more physically stable
- 5:57Speaker 2: to do the things that I want to do. Because
- 5:58Speaker 2: I think something I don't talk about often on the
- 6:00Speaker 2: pod is it's not just me that cancer's life has changed.
- 6:05Speaker 3: It's changed my kid's life. It's changed my relationship with Edwin.
- 6:12Speaker 4: You know.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Yeah, you guys all know that we were filing for divorce.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Nothing's changed in that other than that we're on hold
- 6:20Speaker 2: because of what's happening to me medically. But he's had
- 6:23Speaker 2: to step in and help me because I some days
- 6:28Speaker 2: can't do it. And that's I've never in my adult
- 6:33Speaker 2: life been in a situation where I'm like, gosh, I
- 6:36Speaker 2: can't do this right now. I can't stay up that
- 6:41Speaker 2: extra hour and put my kid to bed tonight, I
- 6:45Speaker 2: can't go to my daughter's horse show, or oh my gosh,
- 6:48Speaker 2: I'm going to have to miss cruise this practice. I've
- 6:51Speaker 2: never once felt that way until recently, and it's it's heartbreaking.
- 6:57Speaker 2: And I want you to know, if you're a single
- 6:59Speaker 2: pay or even if you're in a marriage, or even
- 7:02Speaker 2: if you're in the middle of a divorce like me,
- 7:05Speaker 2: we all hear you, and we know that there are
- 7:07Speaker 2: good days and there are bad days. And I think
- 7:09Speaker 2: the best part is that we share so that we
- 7:12Speaker 2: know that we're not alone through all this. Like I mean,
- 7:14Speaker 2: even Matt told me is one of his good friends.
- 7:17Speaker 2: He's like, she's not immune therapy and she's you know,
- 7:20Speaker 2: she's feeling great, and then I grill them about it.
- 7:22Speaker 3: I'm like, how long was she on? What was the bubble?
- 7:25Speaker 3: You know, Like, all we're doing.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Is craving informations, and sometimes you're not going to be
- 7:29Speaker 2: able to get that from the doctor. You're going to
- 7:31Speaker 2: be able to get that from other people who have struggled,
- 7:33Speaker 2: who are struggling with this. So that's the first thing.
- 7:36Speaker 2: So thank you guys so much. My next appointment with
- 7:40Speaker 2: my doctor is tomorrow, and then we kind of just
- 7:43Speaker 2: go from there. And then right now they're just trying
- 7:45Speaker 2: to figure out my medications, which I'm hoping is the
- 7:48Speaker 2: reason for the sheiks.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Do you want to clarify just for people who still
- 7:53Speaker 4: are maybe confused as to what this means specifically for
- 7:58Speaker 4: your tumors and the actual cancer. Everything is still shrinking
- 8:02Speaker 4: and you are still in a positive trajectory, correctly, Yeah.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Yeah, so this is all still a positive trajectory minus
- 8:08Speaker 2: me not feeling well, but it's still positive when it
- 8:11Speaker 2: comes to my tumors, because my tumors are still shrinking
- 8:16Speaker 2: and some areas you can't even see them at all.
- 8:19Speaker 2: And what I didn't realize is that immunis therapy is
- 8:22Speaker 2: in your system for months and months and months, So
- 8:25Speaker 2: my immunotherapy is still working even if I don't get
- 8:29Speaker 2: that new dose which was supposed to be tomorrow, so
- 8:33Speaker 2: that it's not this isn't for a reason of concern.
- 8:36Speaker 2: It's not me quitting. I mean, if it was up
- 8:38Speaker 2: to me, I'd have been like, let's just power down
- 8:40Speaker 2: and keep going. But he was like, you know, my
- 8:43Speaker 2: doctors like, the beautiful thing about immune therapy is we
- 8:46Speaker 2: can track you and we can see how you're doing
- 8:49Speaker 2: and your body can handle being off of it for
- 8:53Speaker 2: a minute and then we might need to put you
- 8:55Speaker 2: back on it. But that way we can track you
- 8:57Speaker 2: and it's not like a chemo where it's just this.
- 9:00Speaker 2: This is this is how it goes, no matter what
- 9:02Speaker 2: it's black and white. It's not like that with this.
- 9:05Speaker 2: So we're really working with a team of people to
- 9:09Speaker 2: try to get me as healthy as possible and try
- 9:11Speaker 2: and get me back to feeling like myself, because.
- 9:13Speaker 3: You know I do. I love this job so much.
- 9:18Speaker 2: I love being able to recap with every single one
- 9:21Speaker 2: of the people that come on with me. I love
- 9:23Speaker 2: our producers that give us ideas and funny thoughts, and
- 9:28Speaker 2: it's scary and I feel less than on the days
- 9:31Speaker 2: that I can't show up and be here for you guys,
- 9:33Speaker 2: because it's something I look forward to so much. And
- 9:38Speaker 2: so yeah, I mean, don't y'all worry for one second.
- 9:42Speaker 2: I already watched The Valley, I watched I watched Real
- 9:49Speaker 2: Housewives of.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Orange County.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Like I'm going to be there, and I'm hoping that
- 9:57Speaker 2: next week I'll be feeling a million times better and
- 9:59Speaker 2: I'll be able to rea cap the current episodes. But
- 10:01Speaker 2: in the meantime, I'm really loving that we're keeping everybody
- 10:04Speaker 2: up to date because also selfishly, it makes it a
- 10:08Speaker 2: lot easier for me because a lot of things that
- 10:10Speaker 2: people don't know about, you know, these brain tumors and
- 10:14Speaker 2: having stage four cancer. As your memory goes a little bit,
- 10:20Speaker 2: and I've been trying to shield it as much as
- 10:22Speaker 2: I can. But coming on and trying to recap five
- 10:26Speaker 2: past episodes is very difficult for me. So I want
- 10:30Speaker 2: to come on fresh. I want to come on good,
- 10:32Speaker 2: and I want to come in with my strong you know,
- 10:36Speaker 2: sometimes good sometimes bad opinions.
- 10:39Speaker 4: But yeah, so I just want to say real quick
- 10:42Speaker 4: before we move on to the other thing you need
- 10:44Speaker 4: to talk about is that you have built this community
- 10:47Speaker 4: and the outpouring of love and support is so beyond
- 10:51Speaker 4: anything that you even I think are aware of, because
- 10:55Speaker 4: you know, we all are getting in in different places,
- 10:58Speaker 4: just the love for you. And I know you get
- 11:00Speaker 4: in your DMS and you probably get a thousand messages,
- 11:02Speaker 4: but just everyone's rooting for you, and it's you. People
- 11:06Speaker 4: want these updates because you are someone who everyone knows
- 11:09Speaker 4: is just an open book and is continuously just wanting
- 11:11Speaker 4: to provide information and be as open and upfront with
- 11:15Speaker 4: things as possible. So I think the more information that
- 11:18Speaker 4: you want to give people, people are absorbing it and
- 11:21Speaker 4: they're grateful for it, and they're rooting for you.
- 11:23Speaker 2: And and I think, you know, people see you see
- 11:26Speaker 2: something online or you see an image of something like
- 11:29Speaker 2: so many people and thank you, thank you. I may
- 11:33Speaker 2: not have responded because it's very hard for me to
- 11:36Speaker 2: respond to text and to on Instagram, but I'm trying
- 11:40Speaker 2: to keep up as much as i can, but it's
- 11:43Speaker 2: not the best. But the day that I did the
- 11:46Speaker 2: Glamour magazine with Kyle, the day that was released, you know,
- 11:50Speaker 2: I think and if.
- 11:51Speaker 3: You guys haven't read it.
- 11:52Speaker 2: It's actually pretty incredible in the stories that me and
- 11:56Speaker 2: Kyle are able to share, and I think you'll get
- 11:58Speaker 2: a lot from that. So if you go to Lamor magazine,
- 12:01Speaker 2: you can listen or watch me and Kyle kind of
- 12:05Speaker 2: talk about our friendship and talk about what it's what
- 12:09Speaker 2: cancer has made me feel like. But that day, everybody
- 12:13Speaker 2: was like, oh my gosh, Teddy, you look so beautiful,
- 12:16Speaker 2: you look so strong, you look like you're on top
- 12:18Speaker 2: of the world. And I remember that day laying up
- 12:21Speaker 2: in a ball before going calling Kyle and Jin and going,
- 12:25Speaker 2: if one of you guys don't pick me up, I
- 12:28Speaker 2: can't even be in a car service. I'm too embarrassed,
- 12:30Speaker 2: like I'm not doing well. I can't do this today.
- 12:34Speaker 2: And they're like, Okay, if you can't do it, we'll
- 12:35Speaker 2: cancel it. And I'm like, I don't want to cancel it.
- 12:37Speaker 3: It's Glamor magazine. If they never asked me again.
- 12:42Speaker 4: And they look like a model, they.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Made me look like I can't. But that's my point.
- 12:48Speaker 2: You know, like you see a lot and you think
- 12:50Speaker 2: that this means everything's okay. But if you're feeling like
- 12:54Speaker 2: I'm feeling right now, I got you know, I got you.
- 12:57Speaker 2: I understand this is hard.
- 13:00Speaker 4: Yeah, and everyone loves you and everyone is here for you.
- 13:15Speaker 4: You know, not to move on to another traumatic instance,
- 13:19Speaker 4: but so many people want to know what in the
- 13:23Speaker 4: hell happened at your house that broke in the news.
- 13:27Speaker 4: If you want to just shed a little light on that,
- 13:29Speaker 4: Oh my gosh.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Well, to give you guys a little backstory for those
- 13:32Speaker 2: of you who don't live in Los Angeles, about a
- 13:35Speaker 2: week or two ago, there was a couple who lives
- 13:39Speaker 2: kind of nearby me who were murdered in their home
- 13:43Speaker 2: and they were not home and they arrived home and
- 13:48Speaker 2: then were murdered by somebody who was breaking and entering
- 13:52Speaker 2: into their house. So everybody in the area where I live,
- 13:57Speaker 2: we've all been pretty diligent about making I'm sure we're
- 14:01Speaker 2: on top of it because this area is being hit
- 14:03Speaker 2: more than most. Because this is actually something I learned
- 14:07Speaker 2: yesterday is that in Ensino.
- 14:11Speaker 3: There wasn't as many.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Police respondents because it's down so much. In La County,
- 14:21Speaker 2: in La County is normally being hit so much, So
- 14:24Speaker 2: it's just really, you know, it can be a scary time.
- 14:27Speaker 3: So you have to be diligent with your family or kids.
- 14:31Speaker 3: We were home.
- 14:34Speaker 2: For people confuse when I say we, Edwin lives downstairs.
- 14:41Speaker 2: He is helping taking care of me and the kids.
- 14:46Speaker 2: I'm in my room upstairs, but I am not in
- 14:50Speaker 2: a position where I can be by myself. And this
- 14:53Speaker 2: is one of those moments. I'm so be ungrateful because
- 14:57Speaker 2: we had I can't remember if it was I guess
- 15:00Speaker 2: it was maybe two nights ago. We had somebody come
- 15:04Speaker 2: and try to break into the house. We have all
- 15:07Speaker 2: the videos. You can go on my Instagram and you
- 15:08Speaker 2: can see the videos of people, you know, trying to
- 15:12Speaker 2: break into my home. My kids are home, I'm home.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Somebody named Betty that lives with us, she's home, Like
- 15:20Speaker 2: we're all here, and there was like all this noise
- 15:26Speaker 2: moving around and different things happening. And that's when we
- 15:30Speaker 2: saw the bright light, which was a Skyline security cam
- 15:34Speaker 2: go off outside.
- 15:35Speaker 3: And that's when we heard.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Running and we go and we look down and we
- 15:40Speaker 2: see a bunch of guys running off. At that point
- 15:44Speaker 2: in time, Edwin is already on the phone with nine
- 15:47Speaker 2: to one one like that's why I'm like, guys, you
- 15:50Speaker 2: have to set your security systems. You have to make
- 15:53Speaker 2: sure that all your doors are closed. You have to
- 15:55Speaker 2: make sure that you do all these things now more
- 15:57Speaker 2: than ever. But Edwin's already on the phone with nine
- 16:00Speaker 2: one one, and they were over here in a matter
- 16:03Speaker 2: of minutes. They came through. I put all the kids
- 16:06Speaker 2: in the room with me, and they went through and
- 16:09Speaker 2: they looked and checked each room to make sure that
- 16:11Speaker 2: nobody entered the house. And thankfully we were all safe
- 16:18Speaker 2: and good. But like I mean, we're kind of we're
- 16:21Speaker 2: shaken up around here. It's scary, and like even watching
- 16:26Speaker 2: the videos of I mean, on the video to me
- 16:28Speaker 2: that I saw, it looked like it was three guys,
- 16:30Speaker 2: but I mean, everybody's so covered up you can't really tell.
- 16:34Speaker 2: And I think that they broke into the house two
- 16:36Speaker 2: houses down as well. And then yesterday I could not
- 16:40Speaker 2: that I really leave my house, not often anyway, but
- 16:43Speaker 2: I couldn't even leave my house because there was so
- 16:45Speaker 2: much news here. And I know that everybody's extra diligent
- 16:50Speaker 2: right now because of what happened down the street. And
- 16:52Speaker 2: I appreciate all of the support that we've had, but
- 16:55Speaker 2: just you guys, you have to be beyond diligent and
- 17:00Speaker 2: safe for yourselves, for your family, and also being able
- 17:03Speaker 2: to have those hard conversations with your kids. We are safe,
- 17:07Speaker 2: we are okay, and then those like morbid thoughts of
- 17:11Speaker 2: like it's.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Just so much.
- 17:13Speaker 4: Well, kudos to the Encino Police Force for showing up
- 17:15Speaker 4: so quickly and just catch them efforts. That's how That's
- 17:18Speaker 4: all we need.
- 17:19Speaker 3: Yeah, well that and we got to give a shout
- 17:21Speaker 3: out Scott in Security, Edminriave.
- 17:25Speaker 4: Home security guys.
- 17:27Speaker 2: And guys, and to the people that have written Teddy
- 17:33Speaker 2: quit looking for attention. You're doing this on purpose. No
- 17:36Speaker 2: one in the right mind would do this on purpose.
- 17:41Speaker 4: And don't even that.
- 17:45Speaker 5: And then people are like, oh, you're just like so
- 17:47Speaker 5: and so and so and so who used to be
- 17:48Speaker 5: on housewives And you know, I'm like, we weren't robbed,
- 17:54Speaker 5: somebody attempted to come into our home.
- 17:56Speaker 3: Who knows what would have happened. But I I think.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Saying that even in passing, it's hurtful, like we're all scared.
- 18:07Speaker 4: It's ridiculous. People on provincially online just are yes, it's
- 18:14Speaker 4: noise that you need to ignore. You don't need that
- 18:15Speaker 4: extra noise in your life.
