- 0:05Speaker 1: And when I woke up this morning, I was feeling
- 0:06Speaker 1: pretty dangerous tonight. It's mc cornick. They are what we
- 0:12Speaker 1: thought they were and were not about. Hello, you play
- 0:16Speaker 1: to win the gate. They want you to cook the dinner.
- 0:19Speaker 1: At least they ought to let your shop for some
- 0:20Speaker 1: of the grocers. And on the way up, we're gonna
- 0:22Speaker 1: buy the kneecap off playoffs. You're kidding me. I'm just
- 0:25Speaker 1: here so I won't get fine. How could he not
- 0:27Speaker 1: be romantic about football? Welcome to bench? Can okay, nobody
- 0:32Speaker 1: freak out. Nobody freak out. We've got a huge get today.
- 0:36Speaker 1: He's looking, he's find a mirror, rich eyes and rich
- 0:40Speaker 1: eyes and is on bench switch but not a folks.
- 0:43Speaker 1: I feel like everyone's like a high tension right now.
- 0:45Speaker 1: It's like show has got to be good because pro rich.
- 0:48Speaker 1: So we gotta prepared professionally. I'm not prepared for anyone
- 0:53Speaker 1: else but you. Well, I'm glad that I don't feel special.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Um okay, first things first, it's just dropped. We gotta
- 0:59Speaker 1: get your opinion in on it. Nathaniel Hackett is now
- 1:03Speaker 1: your offensive coordinator for the Jets. I listened to the show.
- 1:06Speaker 1: You seem positive is this a kind of thing like
- 1:10Speaker 1: I'm gonna be positive about it and I'm gonna feel good,
- 1:12Speaker 1: like kind of like you're putting that out into the universe. Um,
- 1:16Speaker 1: I don't know. I I you know, hope that he's
- 1:19Speaker 1: gotten his um problems communicating and coordinating for a guy
- 1:25Speaker 1: named Wilson out of the way. He's now doubled his
- 1:29Speaker 1: number of Wilson's. Um, he's got Zack and Garrett. Oh yes, Um,
- 1:35Speaker 1: so he can't quit Wilson. Um. Maybe he'll get the
- 1:40Speaker 1: you know, the volleyball, the volleyball from from uh Castaway
- 1:45Speaker 1: that's shipwrecked movie. At any rate. I don't know. I mean, look,
- 1:49Speaker 1: I'll I'll just say I want. I want the guy
- 1:54Speaker 1: who almost took Blake Bordles to the Super Bowl. So
- 1:57Speaker 1: that's the guy I want. I'm gonna say that he
- 2:00Speaker 1: still in there, still that guy inside of him, deep
- 2:03Speaker 1: inside somewhere. And the issues that he had this year, Um,
- 2:08Speaker 1: you know in some parts are our issues that won't
- 2:11Speaker 1: be on his plate, you know, like kicking ninety yard
- 2:15Speaker 1: field goals as opposed to letting his quarterback cook m
- 2:19Speaker 1: or um. You know, whatever the defense thought of his offense.
- 2:24Speaker 1: That's a Robert Salad problem now. So I'm going to
- 2:26Speaker 1: hope that the guy that almost took Blake Bortles to
- 2:30Speaker 1: the Super Bowl can turn Zach around. I've heard some
- 2:33Speaker 1: whispers about what the quarterback situation. Could you imagine if
- 2:39Speaker 1: it's Aaron Rodgers. I've seen some photoshops of Rogers in
- 2:42Speaker 1: a Jersey. How do all of those things? I thought
- 2:45Speaker 1: it was on ayahuasca when I saw that. That's like,
- 2:47Speaker 1: I'm like, what's in my chees? Give me some more?
- 2:50Speaker 1: Need some more of that? I need championships from him? Yeah,
- 2:53Speaker 1: so you would be into that, I guess. You know
- 2:55Speaker 1: if that comes baggage a little bit, don't you think?
- 2:59Speaker 1: I think so? But also comes the thirty nine year
- 3:01Speaker 1: old who can be dynamite quarterback. And you know Brady's
- 3:06Speaker 1: years thirty nine to forty one were championship years, and
- 3:10Speaker 1: he is a better athlete than Brady entering his thirty
- 3:13Speaker 1: ninth year on the planet. So there's no way he's
- 3:15Speaker 1: done though, right like that, That's the whole thing with him.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I have no idea and and um, I don't know
- 3:24Speaker 1: why he'd want to do it. I would think he
- 3:26Speaker 1: should stay in the place where he is beloved. Um
- 3:29Speaker 1: where he he You know, his car already knows its
- 3:32Speaker 1: way to work, unless he is sitting there saying I've
- 3:35Speaker 1: done this one way for almost twenty years. Before I'm
- 3:39Speaker 1: done playing, maybe I should try someplace else. Um, I
- 3:43Speaker 1: just it would be stunning, stunning to me if he
- 3:45Speaker 1: chooses the same post Green Bay team, same one as Farves.
- 3:52Speaker 1: I mean, it would be weird. That would be wild,
- 3:55Speaker 1: and that was a terrible mix. But um, you know
- 3:59Speaker 1: Robert sala Is and Eric Mangini and the team that
- 4:02Speaker 1: the Jets have currently on defense, he knows very well
- 4:05Speaker 1: because half of them were sitting in his lap when
- 4:08Speaker 1: they visited him in Green Bay. I think it was
- 4:09Speaker 1: Week four this year. So, I mean, I would just
- 4:14Speaker 1: be stunned if he's like, I'm done with Green Bay. Yes,
- 4:18Speaker 1: I want the Jets. Do you think that there's a
- 4:20Speaker 1: part of him though, that is like, you know, he's
- 4:23Speaker 1: a little bit younger, but he's looking at Tom Brady,
- 4:25Speaker 1: Tom left he won a Super Bowl immediately Do you
- 4:28Speaker 1: think that part of him is just like I could,
- 4:30Speaker 1: I could do that. I'm in the same conversation as Tom.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Obviously I am officially out. I'm gonna choose benched with
- 4:36Speaker 1: Bonetta to announcement, I am officially out of the guessing
- 4:41Speaker 1: what's in Aaron Rodgers head business? WIT's official? Should I
- 4:45Speaker 1: jump on that train as well? Well? Actually, what that
- 4:47Speaker 1: means is it's it's there for you to fill the
- 4:50Speaker 1: void if you care to. I am out of the
- 4:55Speaker 1: what's Aaron Rodgers thinking? What's in his head? Business? All right? Verified?
- 5:00Speaker 1: I shan't go in that direction. Is there has there
- 5:02Speaker 1: ever been a time because I love your attitude on
- 5:05Speaker 1: Sunday mornings, You're you're very much like love hate the Jets.
- 5:08Speaker 1: You always have, always will. Has there ever been a
- 5:11Speaker 1: moment where you're like, I'm actually done, Like I'm like
- 5:14Speaker 1: a fireman where I'm out. Yeah, Like I'm not going
- 5:17Speaker 1: to return to if I was never out? When Sanchez
- 5:22Speaker 1: ran into the ass of his teammate, When am I
- 5:23Speaker 1: ever going to be out? You know? Like that's what
- 5:26Speaker 1: we would call the floor. Um, there's nothing worse than
- 5:31Speaker 1: that Adam Gaze, googly eyed Adam Gaze press conference. I
- 5:35Speaker 1: wasn't out then. I can't imagine when I'd ever be out.
- 5:38Speaker 1: So you've never been close, then, I can't. I mean
- 5:41Speaker 1: it's almost like you love to be like full of hatred.
- 5:44Speaker 1: At some point it's going to change. I mean it
- 5:46Speaker 1: was when I was an embryo they won. Um, so
- 5:51Speaker 1: it's it's it's going to happen at some point in
- 5:54Speaker 1: the history of planet Earth. I would like to be
- 5:55Speaker 1: above ground for it. And I'd like to still be
- 5:58Speaker 1: on board, you know. I mean, who what what what
- 6:01Speaker 1: terrible luck that would be if I was out you know. Um, well,
- 6:08Speaker 1: here's the deal. Um, my wife is from New England. Um,
- 6:13Speaker 1: and so we first had a kid in two thousand eight,
- 6:18Speaker 1: so right after the undefeated regular season. Um. And Tom
- 6:23Speaker 1: Brady is also a Michigan guy, me too. For me
- 6:28Speaker 1: to have basically said to my wife, you know, hey, um,
- 6:33Speaker 1: we need to raise our children a jet fan in
- 6:37Speaker 1: the midst of a magical run um involving Brady and Belichick.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Uh well, I I think child Services would have come
- 6:46Speaker 1: to remove custody rights on the spot. I put my
- 6:52Speaker 1: marker on the Yankees. That was one that I kind
- 6:54Speaker 1: of got my one preremptory. Um, that's where I did it.
- 6:58Speaker 1: But no, I couldn't, you know, let me let me
- 7:01Speaker 1: place all of this emotional baggage upon my children. I
- 7:05Speaker 1: can't do that. Um, Richie, We're just looking around this
- 7:07Speaker 1: studio and you were like, this is insane, which Chriss
- 7:10Speaker 1: wrestling studio at NFL Network. It's absolutely amazing. Talk to
- 7:14Speaker 1: me about you were mentioning that you were like the
- 7:16Speaker 1: first NFL podcast way back when this place was in
- 7:19Speaker 1: Culver City and not looking as glamorous as that is.
- 7:22Speaker 1: That how the rich Eyes in the show got started.
- 7:23Speaker 1: It started a podcast, it did. Um. I was thinking
- 7:28Speaker 1: about what else could I do, you know, with the
- 7:32Speaker 1: platform that NFL Network had grown into, and you got
- 7:35Speaker 1: to NFL Network, When when did that start? The first
- 7:37Speaker 1: three I was employee on air, employee one. Yeah, I
- 7:41Speaker 1: was maybe employee three or four. Period. Okay, hold on
- 7:43Speaker 1: pause there for a second. Because you came from ESPN,
- 7:45Speaker 1: that must have been like scary. Um, it was quite
- 7:49Speaker 1: a time, you know. I mean it was I'd been
- 7:52Speaker 1: on Sports Center for seven years and I wanted to
- 7:55Speaker 1: do something other than just Sports Center alone. Yeah, um,
- 8:00Speaker 1: and UM was essentially told no. I held my breath
- 8:05Speaker 1: for a while, and then they finally came around and
- 8:09Speaker 1: offered me a show called Cold Pizza, and um, they
- 8:14Speaker 1: wanted me to be the first host of cold pizza,
- 8:17Speaker 1: and it spoke to me because it was being done
- 8:19Speaker 1: out of New York, where I'm from originally, and I
- 8:21Speaker 1: kind of wanted to get out of living in central Connecticut. Um,
- 8:26Speaker 1: but it just the fit, quite honestly didn't feel right
- 8:29Speaker 1: that I thought like that show could get canceled within
- 8:31Speaker 1: a year, and then I stuck around to do something else,
- 8:34Speaker 1: and now I'm just still doing two hundred sports centers
- 8:37Speaker 1: a year, a hundred whatever I was doing, which was great.
- 8:40Speaker 1: I mean, I loved it, but you know, not to
- 8:42Speaker 1: get too deep in the weeds at the time, you know,
- 8:44Speaker 1: I first went to Sports Center. It was a show
- 8:46Speaker 1: where everybody tuned in to see either what happened because
- 8:51Speaker 1: they didn't see the game or they only saw it once,
- 8:54Speaker 1: and there were no phones to see everything in the
- 8:56Speaker 1: palm of your hand. I legitimately wanted to relive a
- 8:58Speaker 1: game and see it in the highlight form. And towards
- 9:01Speaker 1: the end of my tenure there, people were already seeing
- 9:04Speaker 1: it on the internet. I mean, phones weren't, you know,
- 9:07Speaker 1: weren't terribly prolific, but people were already They were Sports
- 9:12Speaker 1: Center executives and assumed everyone was watching the show fully
- 9:16Speaker 1: knowledgeable what happened, so it can't turn into an argument
- 9:18Speaker 1: show where two analysts came on to argue about why
- 9:21Speaker 1: something happened. So I wasn't really into that anymore. I
- 9:25Speaker 1: think that's not popular anymore. But that's that's where it
- 9:28Speaker 1: was all headed. And so um I had an opportunity
- 9:31Speaker 1: to come out here and start NFL Network, and um
- 9:35Speaker 1: I kind of dug it, but ESPN broke up with
- 9:38Speaker 1: me first, and coming out here was unbelievable. But it
- 9:43Speaker 1: really was jarring, you know, I mean, we're we NFL
- 9:46Speaker 1: Network was in twelve million homes when we started, was
- 9:48Speaker 1: on direct TV and just a handful of small cable outlets.
- 9:53Speaker 1: This is a dumb question. Is twelve million homes very few? Yeah?
- 9:57Speaker 1: I mean ESPN Sports Center back the day when I
- 10:00Speaker 1: was on it was in like a hundred and ten.
- 10:02Speaker 1: So I basically cut my my my exposure coming here
- 10:09Speaker 1: and uh and it was mind blowing. But it was
- 10:13Speaker 1: just a small group of us, about twenty of us
- 10:17Speaker 1: that started. And it was one of those things when
- 10:20Speaker 1: we would go home before leaving because there was no
- 10:24Speaker 1: news desk, there was no anything that we're in this
- 10:26Speaker 1: palace right now, which is amazing. We would um use
- 10:30Speaker 1: this new fangled um portal called Google News. I'm not
- 10:35Speaker 1: kidding you, Like I was like, wow that Google It's
- 10:38Speaker 1: started a news page. So so we would look at
- 10:42Speaker 1: it to see did any stories break before we closed
- 10:45Speaker 1: up Total Access before the end of the night. And
- 10:48Speaker 1: I remember driving home every night I would listen to
- 10:50Speaker 1: local sports talk radio here like kind of white knuckling
- 10:55Speaker 1: every time they did an update involving the NFL, thinking
- 10:57Speaker 1: that I'd have to turn around and the back. What
- 11:02Speaker 1: was the setup of it? Was it like a twenty
- 11:04Speaker 1: four hours Was it just broadcasting like old games? We
- 11:07Speaker 1: were We were showing a lot of NFL films, Yes, Steve.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Without Steve Sable, this place would never existed whatever. So
- 11:14Speaker 1: it was a lot of NFL films. And then it
- 11:15Speaker 1: was just a couple of shows. It was us on
- 11:18Speaker 1: Total Access as show called Coach Speak, where it was
- 11:22Speaker 1: Marv Levy and U Mike Ditka talking about news, uh,
- 11:27Speaker 1: you know, items of the day. And it was like,
- 11:29Speaker 1: you know, like the two muppets in the in the
- 11:33Speaker 1: you know, in the balcony just talking football. Um and anyway,
- 11:37Speaker 1: I just called to Hall of Fame coaches Muppets. But
- 11:40Speaker 1: that's the way we that's the way we started. So
- 11:42Speaker 1: this along winded answer for what you're saying. I just remember, um,
- 11:46Speaker 1: my wife, Susie was working here in Los Angeles and
- 11:50Speaker 1: was covering the Lakers and and so we went to
- 11:54Speaker 1: the NBA All Star Game in February of oh four
- 11:59Speaker 1: and nflm that came on the air in the middle
- 12:01Speaker 1: of November of oh three. So we were about three
- 12:04Speaker 1: four months old, and I went to the NBA All
- 12:07Speaker 1: Star Party that she got us uh tickets too. So
- 12:11Speaker 1: we're in there or she got the passes, and we're
- 12:12Speaker 1: in there and somebody comes up to me and says, man,
- 12:15Speaker 1: I love watching you every morning. And I'm like, I
- 12:18Speaker 1: found somebody who's got NFL network. This is great. I'm like,
- 12:21Speaker 1: what do you like about NFL Network? And he says
- 12:24Speaker 1: to me, what are you talking about? And I'm like,
- 12:26Speaker 1: I'm on NFL Network. He said, quote unquote, what's that. Um.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I explained to him what it was. He says, you're
- 12:33Speaker 1: not on Sports Center anymore. I'm like, no, I haven't
- 12:36Speaker 1: been on since last May. And he paused and he
- 12:38Speaker 1: looks at me, goes, are you all right? And I'm like,
- 12:41Speaker 1: you know, I can fog up a mirror in front
- 12:44Speaker 1: of you if you'd like. I mean, I'm talking to you.
- 12:47Speaker 1: I mean, I'm I'm I'm taking in oxygen and putting
- 12:50Speaker 1: out carbon dioxide like we can. We're talking. But that
- 12:54Speaker 1: was the general sense of what the hell did you
- 12:56Speaker 1: just do with your life? But what I did was
- 12:59Speaker 1: I bet on the NFL, and I bet on myself,
- 13:02Speaker 1: and I bet on living in California, and I bet
- 13:04Speaker 1: on all of that, and and I just again remember
- 13:08Speaker 1: the first Super Bowl we did, which was Brady versus
- 13:11Speaker 1: Jake Dilome, uh Patriots Panthers in Houston, and um, we
- 13:17Speaker 1: were on in every hotel room. I mean, Steve Bornstein
- 13:20Speaker 1: in the league and did an incredible job of getting
- 13:23Speaker 1: us out there. We were on every hotel room. Every
- 13:26Speaker 1: media bus had a TV on it, Like I don't
- 13:29Speaker 1: know how they did it, but the TVs were on
- 13:32Speaker 1: NFL network and media buses in every hotel room. When
- 13:35Speaker 1: you went in the convention center, every five feet was
- 13:38Speaker 1: a television with NFL Network on it, and um, I
- 13:42Speaker 1: just remember that's what it felt like being fully distributed
- 13:45Speaker 1: for the first time. And it was by the end
- 13:49Speaker 1: of the weekend. We crushed it. Like our guest list
- 13:53Speaker 1: was amazing. We had we had a whole bunch of
- 13:56Speaker 1: people because it was Houston, and um, uh, Bob McNair,
- 14:00Speaker 1: the owner of the Texans, brought uh Bush forty forty
- 14:05Speaker 1: one and so I interviewed an actual president camera president,
- 14:09Speaker 1: and uh, the CBS crew came by, and that was
- 14:12Speaker 1: the first time Dion Sanders ever appeared on NFL network
- 14:15Speaker 1: because he was on CBS at the time. We interviewed
- 14:18Speaker 1: the co m v p s of the NFL, which
- 14:20Speaker 1: is Peyton Manning and Steve McNair. Um, we had everybody.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Belichick stopped by on a Tuesday night he was coaching
- 14:26Speaker 1: in the game happening. It felt I felt validated walking
- 14:31Speaker 1: out of the Convention Center, like Okay, this is what
- 14:34Speaker 1: it can be like, and we're gonna be good. And
- 14:38Speaker 1: then the off season hit and we're like, what the
- 14:40Speaker 1: what are we doing now? You know, it's so crazy
- 14:43Speaker 1: because like Canada has ts N, which is like ESPN sister,
- 14:47Speaker 1: but we also had like Sports Center every single night,
- 14:49Speaker 1: and and and Jy on right and Danio told they
- 14:51Speaker 1: were gods, they're they were gods among us. Mirror mortals,
- 14:57Speaker 1: Like I remember seeing Jay. I was in a cab
- 15:00Speaker 1: and I saw Jay cross the street and I was like,
- 15:02Speaker 1: that's Jay On right, Like, oh my god. First off,
- 15:04Speaker 1: he's like seven ft five. You can easily pick him out.
- 15:06Speaker 1: But like what I mean to say is like being
- 15:08Speaker 1: on Sports Center is such a huge, massive role, and
- 15:12Speaker 1: I can imagine how scary that was to give that
- 15:14Speaker 1: up and then to come here. I remember my first
- 15:17Speaker 1: day coming here. It was the grand opening of this building,
- 15:20Speaker 1: and you came and did a speech downstairs, and you
- 15:22Speaker 1: got a little bit emotional, and I had no idea
- 15:25Speaker 1: like the history of this place. I kind of was just,
- 15:27Speaker 1: you know, I just popped into sports in a weird way.
- 15:29Speaker 1: But um, now that I'm now hearing you tell that
- 15:33Speaker 1: story and then thinking about how far this place has come,
- 15:35Speaker 1: like from the from our morning show, Good Morning Football,
- 15:38Speaker 1: all the way to like I don't you know, I'm biased,
- 15:41Speaker 1: but I think our Sunday show is the best Sunday
- 15:44Speaker 1: morning show on air. We are biased, but everyone says
- 15:48Speaker 1: that everyone, but but but yeah, Like you know, I
- 15:51Speaker 1: did a total access from the inception of the network
- 15:56Speaker 1: to two thousand eleven to the lockout when the lockout
- 15:59Speaker 1: was over. That's when Thursday Night Football became more I
- 16:04Speaker 1: think this is the order of events. It was on UM.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Your Thursday Night football when it started was just from
- 16:09Speaker 1: Thanksgiving on UM, and then they wanted it every Thursday.
- 16:14Speaker 1: So doing my show and my podcast UM and Total
- 16:20Speaker 1: Access and then Thursday Night and then Sundays was just
- 16:23Speaker 1: an impossibility. So I was off of the Total Access
- 16:28Speaker 1: UH Daily Grind, but UM from oh three to two
- 16:33Speaker 1: thousand eleven, I did Total Access in the same seat.
- 16:36Speaker 1: And by the same seat, I mean the actual freaking chair.
- 16:39Speaker 1: And like around two thousand eight, I'm like, I'm going
- 16:42Speaker 1: to go on the air and it's gonna freaking break,
- 16:44Speaker 1: Like can we get a new chair please? And and
- 16:48Speaker 1: like that was the way we started. And so when
- 16:52Speaker 1: I walk into this building every time, I'm like I
- 16:55Speaker 1: cannot well, I'm assuming, but you know, it is incredible
- 17:00Speaker 1: across the way from from a stadium that when we
- 17:04Speaker 1: first started NFL Network, like why are you putting in
- 17:06Speaker 1: Los Angeles, Like there's no teams there, and like the
- 17:09Speaker 1: answer was because Steve Bornstein has a house there quite frankly,
- 17:12Speaker 1: so that's why we were here. And I like being
- 17:14Speaker 1: here and I love that it was out here and
- 17:16Speaker 1: it was in the lure for me to come here
- 17:18Speaker 1: as well. But now the fact that, yeah, like everyone's like,
- 17:22Speaker 1: what's this about? What's this channel about? What are you
- 17:24Speaker 1: going to talk about when you're not you know, um,
- 17:28Speaker 1: when you're not playing games? What's what? What is it
- 17:31Speaker 1: going to be? Like? Why are you in Los Angeles?
- 17:34Speaker 1: And now we're in this spot and there's that stadium
- 17:37Speaker 1: across the street. I do I do shake my head
- 17:40Speaker 1: every time I walk in. Yeah, it's I mean, I'm
- 17:41Speaker 1: emotional even just like hearing about it. It's so amazing
- 17:44Speaker 1: that you took that plunge and then also with your
- 17:47Speaker 1: own show, so it started as a podcast. Now you're
- 17:49Speaker 1: on Roku every single day Pacific, right. Um, Like I said,
- 17:54Speaker 1: you're a big get on this show and we've had
- 17:57Speaker 1: justin Jefferson Okay, like thrown that out. I mean, I
- 18:01Speaker 1: think I'm grabbing your questions one handed. I think you
- 18:05Speaker 1: know what. I mean? What else? Who is your you know,
- 18:08Speaker 1: since you've you know, the rich eyes and shows blown
- 18:10Speaker 1: up just as much as this place has from from
- 18:12Speaker 1: the bottom up. Who was your who's been your biggest get? Who?
- 18:16Speaker 1: What is like the biggest accomplishment of that show, oh man.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Just the biggest accompliments show is that it still exists.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I'm not kidding you, you know, Like, um, I got
- 18:28Speaker 1: you know the all right, So I did the podcast
- 18:31Speaker 1: here and and um around, I got a call from
- 18:35Speaker 1: Direct tv, UM an executive and Chris Long, who's got
- 18:39Speaker 1: his roots from Fox Sports as well. UM and he says, um,
- 18:44Speaker 1: Dan Patrick's show, we want to have another show after it.
- 18:48Speaker 1: How about your podcast coming over and doing that? Because
- 18:52Speaker 1: Dan and I go back to when I first started.
- 18:55Speaker 1: He I mean, he was hazing me the first minute
- 18:57Speaker 1: I walked in the door. That yeah, I mean, I'll
- 18:59Speaker 1: never forget. Just you know. I would do the two
- 19:02Speaker 1: am Sports Center. He would do the eleven o'clock with
- 19:04Speaker 1: Keith Olberman, and the tapes of the highlights would come
- 19:08Speaker 1: up in this plastic bin. And as soon as they
- 19:11Speaker 1: came up, I was twenty six years old, and um,
- 19:14Speaker 1: I voraciously took them and watched the highlights first. Otherwise
- 19:18Speaker 1: I would be doing it blind for the first time
- 19:20Speaker 1: on the air. So like I remember the first time,
- 19:23Speaker 1: I'm doing this and I'm staring at the screen, I'm
- 19:25Speaker 1: taking notes and I'm making sure it's all set, and
- 19:27Speaker 1: I feel this presence to my left. It's Dan Patrick.
- 19:30Speaker 1: I look up and he looks down at me, goes
- 19:31Speaker 1: so you're nervous like Dan. So it's like where where
- 19:37Speaker 1: we go? Way back? And so the answer to that
- 19:40Speaker 1: was absolutely. Of course, I had to give up my
- 19:42Speaker 1: firstborn child in order to get a chance to do that.
- 19:45Speaker 1: But thankfully the NFL and everybody played along nicely, and
- 19:48Speaker 1: eventually I got to do it in two thousand fourteen.
- 19:51Speaker 1: And then in late nineteen I got a call from
- 19:55Speaker 1: the powers that be a Direct TV that they were
- 19:57Speaker 1: shuttering the network, that that the show was on, and uh,
- 20:02Speaker 1: this show was legitimately over. And it was two days
- 20:05Speaker 1: before Christmas in and then I went to that Super
- 20:09Speaker 1: Bowl which was the the Chiefs and the the Niners
- 20:14Speaker 1: in Miami. This was just a couple of years ago there,
- 20:17Speaker 1: Oh yeah, oh yeah, Chiefs and not it was the
- 20:19Speaker 1: Chiefs not in Miami what it was, So it's interesting
- 20:22Speaker 1: it could be like a potential repeat of it. But
- 20:24Speaker 1: any rate, so I'm there trying to find a new
- 20:27Speaker 1: partner potentially and kicking tires there, and then the pandemic hits,
- 20:33Speaker 1: so I've lost my television partner, my radio partner, and
- 20:35Speaker 1: then there's something called, you know, a pandemic. So I
- 20:39Speaker 1: ended up coming back from that combine in and going
- 20:42Speaker 1: only on YouTube. UM took the show to NBC Sports
- 20:47Speaker 1: Net for nothing, just to get some exposure. So I
- 20:49Speaker 1: was doing the show every day, um self funding it
- 20:52Speaker 1: at some point no way, yeah, just to keep it
- 20:55Speaker 1: alive and see what would happen. And then Peacock came
- 20:58Speaker 1: along in late saying we'll take you, and so that
- 21:02Speaker 1: helped keep the show alive, and now we're on Roku
- 21:06Speaker 1: and um it's I own the show. So when I'm
- 21:10Speaker 1: not working on it, I'm making phone call. I've never
- 21:13Speaker 1: I mean, it's huge, thank you for saying that, but
- 21:15Speaker 1: I I you know, I don't. I mean, I've never
- 21:17Speaker 1: thought I was management as well as on the ear too,
- 21:21Speaker 1: like alright, I'm learning on the fly. So the fact
- 21:24Speaker 1: that it exists is its biggest to come. Do you
- 21:27Speaker 1: like that that you've gone from you know, having somebody
- 21:31Speaker 1: help you make it to be like now this is mine.
- 21:33Speaker 1: I mean, I know there's a lot of responsibility that
- 21:35Speaker 1: goes with that, but there must be a lot of like, wow,
- 21:37Speaker 1: I own this, do you like when people tell you
- 21:39Speaker 1: what to do, No, okay, there you go. I don't
- 21:44Speaker 1: know if they're in there in there in their office,
- 21:47Speaker 1: but yeah, I mean like so, of course though I
- 21:49Speaker 1: have partners and I have people that are are keen
- 21:52Speaker 1: to hear certain things, see certain things that I need
- 21:56Speaker 1: to um, you know, a cater to. But it's it's
- 22:00Speaker 1: been great and I do love having the guests on
- 22:02Speaker 1: and chopping it up. And and that's the other thing too,
- 22:05Speaker 1: is doing you know, what we do UM is great.
- 22:10Speaker 1: And every single executive that I've ever met wants to
- 22:15Speaker 1: make a connection between the shows and those at home watching,
- 22:20Speaker 1: and we try to do that all the time with
- 22:22Speaker 1: you know, our schedule release show, like how do we
- 22:25Speaker 1: get fans interested in the schedule coming out? Like literally
- 22:28Speaker 1: the schedule release is essentially a show about the the
- 22:31Speaker 1: release of paperwork, the document that you could easily exactly
- 22:35Speaker 1: like hey, let's go Like so one year, you know,
- 22:37Speaker 1: we wound up sending reporters to sports bars and instead
- 22:40Speaker 1: we you know, just to hear what the fans have
- 22:43Speaker 1: to say. Poor Albert Brier sitting there in a Washington
- 22:46Speaker 1: sports pub and there's the caps on behind him. Nobody's
- 22:49Speaker 1: thinking about the new Washington football team's schedule or whatever.
- 22:53Speaker 1: So the answer is to have a show like the
- 22:56Speaker 1: one that I am. Let's have fans, like having fans
- 22:59Speaker 1: actually call in and give their thoughts and chop it
- 23:03Speaker 1: up with them. I love doing that. I had. I
- 23:05Speaker 1: did stand up in college. You did stand up for
- 23:09Speaker 1: how long? Uh? Four years? WHOA? Yeah, really try to go.
- 23:15Speaker 1: I'm not surprised because you are very funny at that.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Just stand ups terrifying. It's nothing I've ever done approaches it.
- 23:23Speaker 1: It's made everything else I've ever done in my career easier.
- 23:25Speaker 1: That's why I love doing improv, because going on television
- 23:28Speaker 1: it's like I don't well. I mean, you definitely have
- 23:31Speaker 1: the chops. I mean the videos that you put out
- 23:33Speaker 1: are laugh out loud hilarious, and I don't know how
- 23:35Speaker 1: you come up with these things, and you know how
- 23:37Speaker 1: you spend time and you're what appears to be your
- 23:39Speaker 1: apartment playing dress up and all that crazy, which comes
- 23:42Speaker 1: out to me every single Sunday without fail, after we've
- 23:44Speaker 1: played something and he puts his hand on my shoulder
- 23:46Speaker 1: and goes, what is wrong with you? I love it.
- 23:48Speaker 1: That's great. And by the way, I've told him he's
- 23:52Speaker 1: got full of stories. You did one segment on our
- 23:55Speaker 1: show this year about right about you retelling the mooches
- 24:00Speaker 1: stories and having him tell him and you kind of
- 24:02Speaker 1: reenact him. He is one of the greatest storytellers ever,
- 24:06Speaker 1: and there are so many more that he should put
- 24:09Speaker 1: into your He was so uneasy about us doing that.
- 24:12Speaker 1: I don't know why, because I think he was just like,
- 24:14Speaker 1: I don't know what you guys are getting up to,
- 24:15Speaker 1: but I'll tell the story, but like, I don't know
- 24:17Speaker 1: what you're doing. He told one story and I'll tell
- 24:21Speaker 1: it here because I've made him tell it on my show.
- 24:24Speaker 1: He told a story based on I don't know if
- 24:26Speaker 1: there's I can't keep track of all the conference rooms here.
- 24:28Speaker 1: It's the other place. They were only a handful of them.
- 24:31Speaker 1: So there was a conference room in the in the
- 24:34Speaker 1: previous spot we were in called the Montana Room, named
- 24:37Speaker 1: after the great Joe Montana, And in the room there's
- 24:41Speaker 1: a photograph of Montana. It's an iconic photograph of Montana
- 24:46Speaker 1: and Bill Walsh taking a knee on the turf and
- 24:49Speaker 1: Candlestick Park, apparently drawing up a play on the on
- 24:53Speaker 1: the turf it's it's an iconic photograph and it's on
- 24:57Speaker 1: the wall. Do you know the story? But right, so
- 25:01Speaker 1: he tells the story. We're just sitting there and just
- 25:03Speaker 1: out of many great things in our business, it's born
- 25:07Speaker 1: out of sheer boredom. Mooch tells the story of how
- 25:10Speaker 1: he loved this photograph and he always wanted a moment
- 25:13Speaker 1: like this with Steve Young, And unbeknownst to Steve Young,
- 25:17Speaker 1: he went into a game where he thought like this
- 25:20Speaker 1: is possible. Like he went into games thinking if there's
- 25:22Speaker 1: a blowout, I'm gonna do this. And so one time,
- 25:26Speaker 1: third quarter or late second quarter, the games out of hand,
- 25:29Speaker 1: he fires off a time out because he notices the
- 25:31Speaker 1: team photographer to his left, and um, he calls a
- 25:35Speaker 1: photographer over, fires off a time out and has Steve
- 25:38Speaker 1: Young come over, and Young is like what. First of all,
- 25:40Speaker 1: it's like, why do you call time out? I'm not
- 25:42Speaker 1: coming Like while am I coming over? He's just get
- 25:44Speaker 1: over here, you know how Mooch tells stories, And so
- 25:48Speaker 1: he wound up attempting to get take a knee and
- 25:51Speaker 1: Young it's like, what the hell are you doing? And uh,
- 25:55Speaker 1: just as he was taking a knee with Steve Young.
- 25:58Speaker 1: The gatorade guy came on to give Young, you know,
- 26:01Speaker 1: the usual time out hydration and in the way of
- 26:04Speaker 1: the shot, he never got his shot. And Young never
- 26:08Speaker 1: knew that story, and I told I had much tell
- 26:12Speaker 1: it on the show, and I played it for Steve
- 26:15Speaker 1: Young is young It never what was his reaction? Couldn't
- 26:19Speaker 1: you know? He he couldn't believe it, but he totally
- 26:22Speaker 1: believed it of course something. I don't know why I
- 26:25Speaker 1: ended up telling you this story, but we you know,
- 26:29Speaker 1: we do love Wow. So doing stand up I did
- 26:32Speaker 1: that for four years. It's made everything else that much easier.
- 26:35Speaker 1: And um, and that's why I like mixing it up
- 26:38Speaker 1: with with fans, you know, I like chopping it up.
- 26:41Speaker 1: What because you've been so dedicated your entire life to sports,
- 26:45Speaker 1: is what was the backup plan? Like? What would you
- 26:47Speaker 1: be doing in this life if sports for some reason
- 26:50Speaker 1: didn't exist? I don't know, because I couldn't play it.
- 26:53Speaker 1: You had no other backup plan. I couldn't play it,
- 26:56Speaker 1: you know, Um, would you go in the news in
- 26:59Speaker 1: a first My first job was as the you know, uh,
- 27:03Speaker 1: the beat reporter for my hometown newspaper. Used to have
- 27:09Speaker 1: to you used to have to like work the teleprompter
- 27:12Speaker 1: with your foot while you were as That was after
- 27:16Speaker 1: my first job was actually working from my hometown newspaper writing,
- 27:20Speaker 1: and I just I wasn't cut out for it. I
- 27:23Speaker 1: wasn't cut out for you wrote a book, I know,
- 27:25Speaker 1: but I wasn't cut out for news like I mean,
- 27:27Speaker 1: I just hated going to hard news stories. I'm I'm
- 27:32Speaker 1: I'm more of a you know, fun and games guy.
- 27:36Speaker 1: So I really wasn't cut out for doing it. And
- 27:37Speaker 1: I have nothing but the greatest respect for those who
- 27:40Speaker 1: are cut out for it. But I went back to
- 27:43Speaker 1: school for TV, and then I did get to read
- 27:45Speaker 1: in California where I did work the teleprompter with a
- 27:48Speaker 1: foot pedal, which is like tapping your head and rubbing
- 27:52Speaker 1: your belly. And found me there but on live television,
- 27:55Speaker 1: and here I am benched with you, benched with me maybe, Okay,
- 28:00Speaker 1: let's talk about actual football. I've loved going down memory
- 28:03Speaker 1: Lane with you. That was really awesome. The m v
- 28:04Speaker 1: P finalists were announced. We've got Josh Allen, Joe Burrow,
- 28:08Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts, Justin Jefferson we love to see it, and
- 28:11Speaker 1: Patrick mahomes Um you have the media votes on this?
- 28:14Speaker 1: Do you vote on it? No? I actually you've you've
- 28:18Speaker 1: hit on a very source of object because the AP
- 28:21Speaker 1: runs it. I'm an NFL employee, why would you not
- 28:24Speaker 1: be able to vote on it. I have spoken to
- 28:28Speaker 1: the Associated Press and personally told them they suck. I'm like,
- 28:33Speaker 1: who sees more football than me and and who has
- 28:35Speaker 1: proven over twenty years that I am not beholden to
- 28:39Speaker 1: this so called party or company line. But because I'm
- 28:43Speaker 1: an NFL employee, they will not give me a vote.
- 28:47Speaker 1: I haven't had a vote in twenty years. Wow. And
- 28:49Speaker 1: I'm like, come on, what was the reaction to you
- 28:52Speaker 1: telling them but this is the policy, it's not my
- 28:56Speaker 1: what's the policy? Immediate vote on it? No? But I
- 29:00Speaker 1: m an NFL That seems ridiculous. So I do not
- 29:05Speaker 1: have a vote. If I had a vote, I'd give
- 29:06Speaker 1: it to Jalen Hurts. Oh how come? Um? I just
- 29:11Speaker 1: think what he has turned himself into is remarkable. I think, um,
- 29:16Speaker 1: we saw what the offense also looked like with Gardner Minshew.
- 29:20Speaker 1: With all due respect to him, I think, um he
- 29:22Speaker 1: is he is? Um. I love him, But I mean
- 29:26Speaker 1: I just had Dallas Goddard today on the show, we
- 29:28Speaker 1: speak to any Eagle and they will talk about Hurts,
- 29:32Speaker 1: his value, how incredible he is. Well Nick Sirianni just
- 29:35Speaker 1: referred to him as Michael Jordan. I know, so he
- 29:37Speaker 1: has that he has this um mentality that's all business,
- 29:42Speaker 1: um and also very um philly like you know, I
- 29:48Speaker 1: think that he's he's a coach of a son, which
- 29:50Speaker 1: means he's a son of a gun as well. And
- 29:53Speaker 1: he is he is um everything that this team needs
- 29:56Speaker 1: him to be. And when they have big wins, he says,
- 29:59Speaker 1: we're not done. Yeah, I mean they follow his lead
- 30:01Speaker 1: in every single way. And um, I think he is
- 30:05Speaker 1: the most valuable player. You normally give it to somebody
- 30:08Speaker 1: on the team that has the most wins, and you
- 30:10Speaker 1: give it to a team that is um showing it's
- 30:13Speaker 1: worth And um, I know he missed two games and
- 30:16Speaker 1: that's why people discounted, but I just think, you know,
- 30:22Speaker 1: also it's it's a total, as you know, um subjective award.
- 30:28Speaker 1: You could easily, you know, give Coach of the Year
- 30:30Speaker 1: to Belichick and read every year you know, and you don't,
- 30:34Speaker 1: so I means already has when I'd give one a
- 30:36Speaker 1: hurt because it's voted on by the media members. It's
- 30:39Speaker 1: almost like every every single time I've ever like spoken
- 30:42Speaker 1: about this on TV and broken it down, it's like,
- 30:44Speaker 1: what is the best storyline? I think Joe Burrow is
- 30:47Speaker 1: very interesting. You know, there's the Super Bowl hangover that
- 30:49Speaker 1: everyone always talks about that people get stuck in, and
- 30:52Speaker 1: they kind of did have it for a couple of weeks.
- 30:53Speaker 1: They went oh in too, and now they found themselves
- 30:56Speaker 1: back in almost the big Dance. Yeah. I mean what he's,
- 30:59Speaker 1: what he's become is and it doesn't seem like he cares.
- 31:04Speaker 1: It's because he's he's he's just um, he's a machine.
- 31:09Speaker 1: It's what it looks like, which is why I knew
- 31:13Speaker 1: something significant was up with the mar Hamlin the night
- 31:16Speaker 1: that happened when you saw Burrow looking like frightened and
- 31:21Speaker 1: worried on my child, him and Josh Allen, right, Josh,
- 31:25Speaker 1: and but seeing Joe Burrow's face looking anything like the
- 31:29Speaker 1: face we always see on him was jarring to me
- 31:32Speaker 1: because he always when he walks in the building and
- 31:35Speaker 1: he taps Chris Collinsworth on the back at security but
- 31:39Speaker 1: keeps walking, or he walks into a press conference room,
- 31:43Speaker 1: or he walks in with hottily goes back on a sideline.
- 31:45Speaker 1: He's the same guy and um, you know, um, he
- 31:51Speaker 1: what he's becoming is unbelievable and um Brady like, there's
- 31:57Speaker 1: no other way to describe it. The way that he operates,
- 32:01Speaker 1: the way that he um wins, the way that he
- 32:03Speaker 1: cuts your heart out, the way that he uh pre
- 32:07Speaker 1: snapped neck up diagnoses plays, the way that he does everything. Um.
- 32:13Speaker 1: And it may not only include another Super Bowl appearance
- 32:18Speaker 1: or win, but potentially this uh spring one of the
- 32:22Speaker 1: old Brady hometown discounts. When the Bengals you know, talk
- 32:25Speaker 1: contract with him, We'll see what he does on that front. Um.
- 32:29Speaker 1: But he is a revelation and you know, um, sometimes
- 32:34Speaker 1: we all get caught up, as you point out narrative storylines.
- 32:37Speaker 1: We were all coming in the season, Can Alan and
- 32:39Speaker 1: Mahomes do it again? Like what what? What? You know?
- 32:42Speaker 1: The concept when we were all choosing the Bills back
- 32:44Speaker 1: in September, Um, it was like, not will Mahomes and
- 32:49Speaker 1: Alan fight it out for the a f C? In
- 32:52Speaker 1: which round of the playoffs will they meet? With the
- 32:55Speaker 1: question will it be divisional again or will it be
- 32:57Speaker 1: the a f C championship again, and the answer was
- 33:00Speaker 1: not at all, because Burrow has raised his hand and said,
- 33:02Speaker 1: hold on a second, get you know, like better, get better,
- 33:05Speaker 1: sending those refunds, you know like that. That is his
- 33:08Speaker 1: so far mantra. I think it's been a perfect words
- 33:11Speaker 1: for him to come out of his mouth this past week.
- 33:14Speaker 1: So I think he's incredible too. But like I said,
- 33:17Speaker 1: it wasn't a full season for him like it was
- 33:19Speaker 1: for Hurts. So that's why I'd go with you, hurt Well,
- 33:22Speaker 1: associated Press, you're missing out. Look at that beautiful analysis.
- 33:24Speaker 1: And by the way, it wasn't like hold I mean,
- 33:27Speaker 1: let me check my notes. Roger Goodell says, give it
- 33:30Speaker 1: to Hurts. You know there it is. Email just came in.
- 33:35Speaker 1: So I'm so glad I'm making him happy. All Right,
- 33:38Speaker 1: We're gonna take a quick break more benched with Banetta
- 33:41Speaker 1: after this. Don't go anywhere. We'll get some I were saying,
- 34:03Speaker 1: all right, welcome back. We're hanging out with Rich Eysen.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Let's get into the playoff preview presented by DraftKings Sports Book. Okay,
- 34:08Speaker 1: forty niners, they're heading to Philly, where they are underdogs
- 34:12Speaker 1: at plus two and a half. The Niners have covered
- 34:14Speaker 1: the spread and each of their last nine games versus
- 34:17Speaker 1: NFC opponents, so good. Expect some scoring between the Eagles
- 34:22Speaker 1: and Niners. The over under is set at forty six
- 34:25Speaker 1: and a half. Defense take the day off. Christian McCaffrey
- 34:28Speaker 1: is scored in each of the forty Niners playoff games,
- 34:30Speaker 1: and you can grab a McCaffrey anytime touchdown for minus
- 34:34Speaker 1: one thirty. You can grab the same game parlay over
- 34:37Speaker 1: at Draft King Sports Book for plus three. Al Right, Rich,
- 34:40Speaker 1: who are you going with? I feel like I'm going
- 34:42Speaker 1: to change my mind several times before we get to Sunday.
- 34:47Speaker 1: I don't know, Um God, I do love what's going
- 34:51Speaker 1: on with the Niners so much, and I saw it coming,
- 34:56Speaker 1: and you know, I mean, we're seeing Kittle here and
- 34:59Speaker 1: he is I mean, Purty has totally turned the light
- 35:02Speaker 1: on back on for Kittle in a way that even
- 35:04Speaker 1: Jimmy g hadn't this year. Pretensive the questions in the
- 35:10Speaker 1: same way that the Eagles weren't the Vikings, you know, um,
- 35:15Speaker 1: and we saw what happened with the Giants. You know,
- 35:17Speaker 1: the Niners aren't the Giants either, So I'm wondering if
- 35:24Speaker 1: the Niners can somehow stop the run and stop A J. Brown.
- 35:29Speaker 1: I just don't know if they can. The way that
- 35:32Speaker 1: the Eagles are playing right now, I think they shouldn't
- 35:34Speaker 1: say can if if they will, just I don't know. So, UM,
- 35:41Speaker 1: if IM pressed now on this show, I'm I'm kind
- 35:44Speaker 1: of leaning on flipping both scripts because mahomes ankle, even
- 35:48Speaker 1: though I I've been giving a team coverage on my
- 35:50Speaker 1: show every day, best ankle coverage in the business, apparently
- 35:53Speaker 1: didn't even walk out with the boot no boot. And
- 35:57Speaker 1: the difference is, you know, because again I'm all over
- 36:00Speaker 1: this story. Um, yesterday, Um, he walked off the podium,
- 36:07Speaker 1: which is not too high up. It's too little mini
- 36:09Speaker 1: steps all right, No, I mean we didn't measure the steps,
- 36:13Speaker 1: but I mean, um, you look at the video and
- 36:16Speaker 1: he took the mini steps down and he and he
- 36:18Speaker 1: and he went down with no problem, like he kind
- 36:20Speaker 1: of hopped down them and yeah, yeah, like it was
- 36:23Speaker 1: it was. It was. It was not like slow and
- 36:27Speaker 1: steady wins the race. He just negotiated the too mini
- 36:31Speaker 1: steps very easily, you know. And by the way, it's
- 36:34Speaker 1: significant when Romo you know, normally calls his shots pretty
- 36:38Speaker 1: damn well finished the Bills Bengals game and said if
- 36:40Speaker 1: the ankle is really bad, he'll be on crutches Wednesday.
- 36:44Speaker 1: So not only was he not on crutches, he wasn't
- 36:45Speaker 1: in a boot. And he he walked down these two steps.
- 36:48Speaker 1: There's too many steps today, same podium, same riser. He
- 36:53Speaker 1: didn't even go down the mini steps. He just went
- 36:57Speaker 1: down off the riser in one step, landed on the ankle,
- 37:02Speaker 1: and kept walking without a hitch. This was the Olympics.
- 37:05Speaker 1: You would give him close to a ten. It was
- 37:08Speaker 1: he stuck the landing, and he stuck the land It's
- 37:10Speaker 1: just but to me, he's not thinking about it. He's
- 37:12Speaker 1: not thinking about it. Like if if if I had to,
- 37:15Speaker 1: if I had to just use these mini steps versus
- 37:19Speaker 1: riser scenario as an indication of anything. Um it said,
- 37:25Speaker 1: he's playing Sunday, so um but let's just say Trey
- 37:30Speaker 1: Hendrickson takes him down the wrong way or Sam Hubbard,
- 37:34Speaker 1: you know, gives him a shot and there's a little
- 37:37Speaker 1: friendly fire, goes down and he hits the ankle. Then
- 37:40Speaker 1: there's a whole different ball at WAX. I think they're
- 37:42Speaker 1: definitely taking the snow globe play out. I would hope,
- 37:46Speaker 1: so by a million, that would be scary. I just
- 37:50Speaker 1: don't know if you even want to run the if
- 37:52Speaker 1: you're up by a million, even with the bye week,
- 37:54Speaker 1: you don't want to run the risk of making a
- 37:56Speaker 1: lateral pre snap, pre post huddle breaking moment by putting
- 38:01Speaker 1: your main guy on the on the line like a
- 38:04Speaker 1: bold move. So all that said is I'm I'm thinking
- 38:08Speaker 1: of calling my own mulligan and going Bengals and Eagles.
- 38:17Speaker 1: So I have a Kelsey Brother super Bowl. Yeah, yeah,
- 38:21Speaker 1: I think I think the bearded one makes it fearlessly.
- 38:25Speaker 1: That's what I'm sac, I guess, so I shouldn't say that.
- 38:28Speaker 1: Um yeah, that's what I'm leaning towards right now. But
- 38:30Speaker 1: I've got two more days to talk myself out of it.
- 38:32Speaker 1: I know. That's what I love. You know, last weekend's games,
- 38:35Speaker 1: there are some pretty big favorites, like summer favorite a
- 38:38Speaker 1: whole touchdown. These ones are like you were just trying
- 38:41Speaker 1: to find that needle minus two and a half. The
- 38:43Speaker 1: Chiefs are only favored by one, which Cynthia said on
- 38:47Speaker 1: our last week's show that she was thinking that the
- 38:48Speaker 1: Bengals were going to be favored, especially because of that sprain.
- 38:52Speaker 1: You didn't see him come off the riser today, did you.
- 38:54Speaker 1: She didn't take that into I don't know what I said.
- 39:00Speaker 1: She might not have the whole riser step thing in
- 39:02Speaker 1: her in her mathematical equation. I don't know. So that's
- 39:08Speaker 1: what I'm saying. You just need to take this all
- 39:10Speaker 1: into account. And by the way, I could take the
- 39:13Speaker 1: easy way out. What's the easy way. Well, I already
- 39:16Speaker 1: chose Chiefs and Nineties, so I've got a stick with it,
- 39:19Speaker 1: which is I don't that's not servicing the audience right now.
- 39:23Speaker 1: I don't think so. Either I'm afraid of geting a
- 39:25Speaker 1: tweet from cold takes or old takes. I already I
- 39:28Speaker 1: already no, I already at them say I don't care
- 39:32Speaker 1: what you think. I literally said that, ass But seriously, like,
- 39:38Speaker 1: that's not servicing the audience by saying I'm not telling
- 39:41Speaker 1: you what I think now, I just want to remind
- 39:44Speaker 1: you I have the opportunity to have been right. Also,
- 39:47Speaker 1: it's ridiculous that you're going to take picks from like preseason,
- 39:50Speaker 1: mid season I saw that Thanksgiving Chiefs Niners, and then
- 39:56Speaker 1: when I've given a chance at the outside of the playoffs,
- 39:58Speaker 1: I stuck with it, so I'm gonna ride it all
- 40:00Speaker 1: the way out of it. But you know, uh, if
- 40:03Speaker 1: Mahomes is compromised and the Eagles you're playing at their
- 40:08Speaker 1: top level again, which I didn't see in the three
- 40:12Speaker 1: weeks prior to sticking with them to begin the beginning
- 40:15Speaker 1: of the playoffs, then UM, you know, I just gotta
- 40:19Speaker 1: I gotta take it all into account. So this is
- 40:21Speaker 1: the way I'm leaning right now. Okay, I love it. Um,
- 40:23Speaker 1: I am going forty Niners Bengals. What what the hell's
- 40:27Speaker 1: your problem? I don't know, I don't know. I would
- 40:29Speaker 1: love a trip. I would love a Kelsey Brothers Super Bowl.
- 40:31Speaker 1: That'd be fun storylines. That was the playoff preview presented

- 41:33Speaker 1: before we let you go, thank you so much for
- 41:34Speaker 1: giving us so much of your time. I have a question.
- 41:37Speaker 1: It is considered the question of the Bench with Benetta podcast.
- 41:41Speaker 1: Some people have started to put it into their dating
- 41:43Speaker 1: profiles because it's such a good conversation starter. Except four.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Every time I ask it on this podcast, people melt down.
- 41:51Speaker 1: They feel like they need to have some like grand answer.
- 41:54Speaker 1: I don't want you to feel that way. I just
- 41:56Speaker 1: feel like you're you're gonna have a thoughtful answer. I
- 41:58Speaker 1: know that about. So here's what happens. You die, okay not,
- 42:04Speaker 1: it's not a bad death, it's just you've float off whatever.
- 42:07Speaker 1: You get to come back to earth dismember. We don't
- 42:13Speaker 1: you don't actually know how you die. Well let's start there.
- 42:16Speaker 1: You don't know how you die with you're dead. You
- 42:18Speaker 1: get to come back to earth for thirty minutes. You
- 42:20Speaker 1: cannot see anybody that would know you because they know
- 42:24Speaker 1: that you're dead, so if they saw you that they
- 42:25Speaker 1: would be freaked out. Can't see anybody that you love,
- 42:28Speaker 1: can't see anybody that you know. Thirty minutes? Where are
- 42:32Speaker 1: you going? And what are you doing? And take all
- 42:35Speaker 1: the time you need. It's the beauty of editing. What
- 42:40Speaker 1: am I doing? Where are you going? All right? So
- 42:42Speaker 1: is it a meal? Are you sitting on a favorite bench?
- 42:44Speaker 1: Are you looking living? Oh? People are But I'm not
- 42:49Speaker 1: allowed to see anybody. You're not allowed to see anybody
- 42:51Speaker 1: that you love. Because the typical answer would be like, well,
- 42:54Speaker 1: I want to go home, I want to see my family,
- 42:57Speaker 1: I want to hang out with my friends. We're taking
- 42:59Speaker 1: that off the table, all right, Um, and where do
- 43:03Speaker 1: I still look like myself? Do I come back as Brad?
- 43:05Speaker 1: Pitt you click, Am I am? I Joe Black Like,
- 43:09Speaker 1: I mean like it's because no, but these are important.
- 43:17Speaker 1: I would say, you're you're you, but I can't be
- 43:20Speaker 1: around anybody. He's like a football fan or something. You
- 43:24Speaker 1: people can't really like see your face. You're just so
- 43:29Speaker 1: I'm like a thumb, like like a face of a
- 43:32Speaker 1: thumb of human. You're invisible. Okay, alright, thirty minutes. Would
- 43:42Speaker 1: you go maybe to a football field? Sit down? Okay,
- 43:47Speaker 1: where would I go? I don't know, same Michigan, something
- 43:49Speaker 1: I don't know. It's worth noting. Kyle Brandt refused to
- 43:52Speaker 1: answer this question so hard. We all know his answer.
- 43:57Speaker 1: It's wherever Josh Allen is. But he can't see anybody.
- 44:04Speaker 1: He can't go because he loves him and Josh, Kyle,
- 44:08Speaker 1: you wouldn't answer, he deflected. He made a joke. Well,
- 44:13Speaker 1: I mean that's kind of what I've been doing for
- 44:15Speaker 1: the last two three minutes because I haven't thought about it,
- 44:17Speaker 1: you know, like, where would I go? Um? What would
- 44:20Speaker 1: I do? Said? There's this place that I grew up,
- 44:24Speaker 1: this lake. It's always like so warm, and I had
- 44:27Speaker 1: one day where I just escaped, turned my phone off
- 44:29Speaker 1: and I just flow. But half an hour, I would
- 44:32Speaker 1: just go back and have a little float. Go back
- 44:34Speaker 1: and have a float. Um, all right, I would. I
- 44:38Speaker 1: would get a slice of New York pizza from where
- 44:41Speaker 1: a certain place doesn't matter. O Um, I'd get a
- 44:46Speaker 1: slice of New York pizza. And then I would I'd
- 44:51Speaker 1: probably go to like Yankee Stadium. Really yeah, just sit
- 44:56Speaker 1: outside or go inside taking a game. Wow. Yeah, thirty
- 45:00Speaker 1: minutes and hope like a moonlight Graham and they get
- 45:03Speaker 1: back on that diamond. I throw a no hitter? Can
- 45:06Speaker 1: I throw a no hitter? You can do it? I mean,
- 45:08Speaker 1: I'm calling attention to myself, just the thumb. I'm just
- 45:13Speaker 1: a thumb throwing a no hitter for the Yankees. Can
- 45:15Speaker 1: I come back with Can I come back with like powers?
- 45:18Speaker 1: Or I'm myself? Okay, this is getting too simple. It's
- 45:24Speaker 1: not simple laughing because they know how many times I
- 45:29Speaker 1: failed at this. It's not simple. Like if I come
- 45:32Speaker 1: back with like superpowers or something like that. If I
- 45:35Speaker 1: couldn't come back with a ninety our fastball for half
- 45:39Speaker 1: an hour, that what I should ask. Thirty minutes, you
- 45:41Speaker 1: get to come back there. If you have a superpower,
- 45:43Speaker 1: do yes? It's much better than like what am I
- 45:46Speaker 1: gonna do? You can't see anyone you love, they can't
- 45:49Speaker 1: see you. You've had a horrible death or a great death.
- 45:52Speaker 1: It depends on however you imagine your death. I mean,
- 45:54Speaker 1: like that puts your guest on, you know, on the
- 45:57Speaker 1: heels to begin with, like what happens like I don't know? Um,
- 46:01Speaker 1: you know, and I can't see anyone I love. They
- 46:04Speaker 1: people can't know who I am. So you know, Um,
- 46:09Speaker 1: that's what I would do. Yeah, I'd have a I
- 46:12Speaker 1: have a slice of pizza. I'd get a Yankee game,
- 46:15Speaker 1: and I try to like like moon like rain. I
- 46:17Speaker 1: go back on the field and I become you know,
- 46:21Speaker 1: Gerard Cole, Yeah, you know and strike people out. Is
- 46:25Speaker 1: that a problem? No problem? No problem here because I
- 46:28Speaker 1: don't know these rules that you come up. There's no rules,
- 46:31Speaker 1: because this question is never gonna existed. Rich Eyes and
- 46:39Speaker 1: about five minutes ago. Alright, big thanks to Rich eyes
- 46:43Speaker 1: in for his time. I feel like this is a
- 46:46Speaker 1: real show today. We got coming up after the break.
- 46:50Speaker 1: We're gonna get back to our old Shenanigans. We are
- 46:53Speaker 1: talking the best and the worst things that I saw
- 46:55Speaker 1: all week. To go anywhere alright, time to talk about
- 47:12Speaker 1: the best and the worst thing that I saw all week.
- 47:15Speaker 1: You know, we were talking about Joe Burrow earlier in
- 47:17Speaker 1: the show and just how calm and cool and collected
- 47:21Speaker 1: he is. But there's sometimes that will people will hit
- 47:25Speaker 1: a nerve with him, and all he's gotta do is
- 47:26Speaker 1: say like one little line. Uh and and somebody somebody
- 47:30Speaker 1: asked him old question last week. Let's see what he
- 47:34Speaker 1: had to say for everyone talking about a neutral championship game,
- 47:39Speaker 1: not even thinking about you guys, how much did that
- 47:42Speaker 1: motivate you coming into this? You better send those refunds.
- 47:49Speaker 1: You can't even see his eyes, little room sounds just calm,
- 47:54Speaker 1: cool and give the m v P. Just because of
- 47:56Speaker 1: his postgame sounds. Um. Absolutely loved to see that Joe Burrow.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Like I was saying earlier, Super Bowl hangover, where is it?
- 48:03Speaker 1: It's nowhere to be found. They started the season oh
- 48:06Speaker 1: and two and they've found themselves back in the NFC Championship.
- 48:09Speaker 1: Is pretty incredible. Okay, uh, next up, this is fascinating. Okay.
- 48:14Speaker 1: The Bengals have claimed quarterback Chris Lammon's off waivers from
- 48:20Speaker 1: the Chiefs. Move is deferred until day after Super Bowl,
- 48:23Speaker 1: so he cannot play for the Bengals. Bengals are straight
- 48:29Speaker 1: up just trying to get some info. They are just
- 48:32Speaker 1: trying to figure out what the Chiefs are up to.
- 48:35Speaker 1: This kind of like this is kind of somewhere in
- 48:38Speaker 1: between best thing and the worst thing that I saw,
- 48:41Speaker 1: Like it seems a little bit cheeky, like you shouldn't
- 48:44Speaker 1: really have to do this, but at the same time,
- 48:46Speaker 1: like a trip to the Super Bowls on the line,
- 48:48Speaker 1: So like, I don't know, you guys, tell me, does
- 48:51Speaker 1: this feel like a little bit like, yeah, there's something
- 48:54Speaker 1: a little bit about it. So I think I'm gonna
- 48:58Speaker 1: put this like somewhere right in the middle between the
- 49:00Speaker 1: thing and the worst thing that I saw. Bengels, you
- 49:01Speaker 1: don't need it, you don't need to do this, you
- 49:03Speaker 1: don't need to like it seems a little cheeny. I'm
- 49:06Speaker 1: gonna whisper it seems a little cheeny, Like I don't
- 49:09Speaker 1: like it. Okay. Then the worst thing that I saw,
- 49:11Speaker 1: which was actually kind of like the best thing that
- 49:13Speaker 1: I saw, unfold over the week. Mike Hilton Um after
- 49:16Speaker 1: the Wind said we'll see you all in burrow Head,
- 49:21Speaker 1: and then Travis Kelsey went on his podcast new heights
- 49:24Speaker 1: and said, oh, you guys are given us bulletin board material. Um,
- 49:30Speaker 1: I cannot wait for this game. I love bulletin board material.
- 49:34Speaker 1: I am very pro bulletin board material. On both sides
- 49:38Speaker 1: rub it in and then the other side gets mad
- 49:41Speaker 1: at it, so we all have something to talk about
- 49:42Speaker 1: on television. It is absolutely beautiful boys and girls and
- 49:45Speaker 1: everybody else. That is our show that is benched with Banetta.
- 49:49Speaker 1: Huge thanks to rich eyes In for joining. I can't
- 49:53Speaker 1: believe he came and did the thing and answered the
- 49:56Speaker 1: question and shouts to Parker who works on our show.
- 49:59Speaker 1: She had the best answer to the question. Okay, this
- 50:02Speaker 1: is the last time we hear about this. It's not
- 50:03Speaker 1: I'm totally gonna ask this question again. She said that
- 50:07Speaker 1: she would rob a bank, okay, and then leave the
- 50:11Speaker 1: money somewhere her family could find it. And I think
- 50:14Speaker 1: that that's the best answer of the question that we
- 50:17Speaker 1: have gotten so far. All Right, she's not going to
- 50:19Speaker 1: grab the slesa peza. She's not gonna go have a
- 50:21Speaker 1: little float in the lake. She's robbing a bank. Keeps
- 50:25Speaker 1: where you gonna where did you find anything to rob
- 50:27Speaker 1: a bank with your thumb? We'll answer that question next week.
- 50:31Speaker 1: Thanks for listening, we'll see you enjoy all the football.
- 50:34Speaker 1: We'll see you back on Tuesday with Kyle Brant, Posyna
- 50:44Speaker 1: Sank
