  foul hot takes when it comes to K dramas, the ones they keep to

  themselves because they'll get clobbered in these virtual

  streets. Please come clean.

  And I am also an agent of chaos in the in the comments I soaked

  the flames and said I can't believe I said this.

  TikTok was going to get anywhere.

  Of course it went viral and garnered a ton of comments,

  reactions and shares. At the time of recording it has

  over 9000 comments. So I tried to comment back

  initially and egg people on at first when they commented with a

  really tame or non specific hot take.

  That's part of the fun of making such a post I feel is to be like

  name names. I felt like Regina George at the
• 3:27
  top of the stairs and Mean Girls.

  And then the word I want to use is it got tribal.

  It got tribal. It was.

  There was gnashing of teeth, people going feral over each
• 3:40
  other's hot takes, disagreeing, agreeing, starting shit.

  Too many comments going for the jugular when it comes to
• 3:46
  criticizing the physical appearances of actors and
• 3:49
  actresses, which to me isn't really a hot take at all.
• 3:53
  But whatever. The heat was definitely rising
• 3:57
  in the comments section of this TikTok that I made and the app
• 4:02
  itself. TikTok itself was warning me
• 4:04
  against foul comments. Stop.

  Yeah, so there's a section at the bottom.

  If you scroll all the way down to your comment section, you can
• 4:12
  click and be like, oh, let me see all of the flagged comments.

  And I could not, I literally could not clear all of the flag
• 4:19
  comments. There were too many and they
• 4:22
  were the worst of the worst. Right.

  So the app finally said turn on the comment safety anti
• 4:27
  bullying. It prompted me to and I said
• 4:31
  fuck it. Yeah.
• 4:32
  So then after that it had a little tag at the thought that
• 4:35
  said anti bullying like active or something.
• 4:38
  And the people immediately took notice and started saying not
• 4:41
  the anti bullying being turned on in the comments.
• 4:45
  So I mean y'all were animals. There was a ferocity in the
• 4:51
  comments that couldn't be tamed at all.

  A few folks suggested I do a full Hot Takes episode on Tibuk
• 4:58
  and immortalize this moment and some of these foul, foul takes

  on the podcast. And I've always toyed with the
• 5:05
  idea anyway. Because if you're familiar with

  Caitlin, No Sleep for dramas. And we're talking about time

  between Dog and Wolf. So I had to rewatch it and I

  haven't rewatched it in maybe over 10 years the way that show

  because it's giving we're running out of ideas and I know

  that's not the case. I think what's happening is

  Netflix like these other parties are they need share bankers or

  they need like and that's my other hot take.

  I wish Netflix and Disney never went to Korea, but that's for we

  can explore that. We can explore that more as we

  go through these hot takes. But yeah, that is a wonderful

  hot take and I totally agree with you.

  I'm not sure if that's me also piling on or just Co signing

  with you, but yeah, I totally agree that there's less and less

  K dramas for me that demand my attention and the riding on some
• 8:29
  of these is just lackluster. The pacing on some of these is

  lackluster. I know for a fact that once
• 8:36
  Netflix came in and started throwing money at the industry
• 8:40
  and, you know, financing these K dramas, they also imposed the
• 8:45
  891012 episode season on an industry that was largely 1620
• 8:53
  episode, maybe even longer and a one season limited series as we
• 8:57
  would call it here. And so I'm positive that the
• 9:02
  writing suffered on all of the shows as they tried to adjust to
• 9:07
  the demands of the financier, which in this case is the
• 9:10
  streamers. You have the Disney Plus, you
• 9:12
  have the Netflix. Before that, you had financiers
• 9:16
  that were from Southeast Asia, like China was investing heavily
• 9:19
  in K dramas around the 2016 era, which is why you had such a jump
• 9:24
  in quality, in production quality, right?
• 9:27
  That's when you got Goblins, you got, you know, Descendants of
• 9:30
  the Sun and all of these really iconic 2016 K dramas.
• 9:34
  The quality jumped tremendously during that era.
• 9:37
  But once China pulled out, then Netflix took over, right?
• 9:41
  So now then you had different issues and you know, money might
• 9:46
  not have been a problem and the production quality was not the
• 9:49
  issue anymore. It was the structure of the show
• 9:53
  itself 100% that was changing. So anyway, this is in, we could
• 9:58
  do an entire episode of just this and deep dive on this, but

  let me tell you there is some nastiness in our near future.

  If you are easily upset, OK, If you have a fragile ego regarding
• 10:11
  your favorite actors and actresses, TV shows, if you fly
• 10:15
  off the handle because someone doesn't like the same show as
• 10:18
  you or what have you, you are going to want to skip this
• 10:22
  episode. This is not for you.

  This is a gird your loins, you know, guard your heart kind of
• 10:29
  episode. And we're going to have some fun
• 10:32
  with it because we've been watching K dramas for a long
• 10:35
  time, way before the 2016 era that I'm even referencing.

  And we've seen a lot of ups and downs.

  You've seen a lot of shows and the people that we're going to
• 10:47
  talk about and the hot takes that we're going to share with
• 10:50
  you that are not ours, we're, I'm going to say exactly who

  said this if I can. They're not nice at all, OK?

  These are not nice. And I think we're uniquely

  positioned to comment on these and give our two cents and agree

  The first top take is really one that is hard hitting for a lot

  of K drama watchers, Asian drama aficionados, because MVXQZ 0409

  said it's really hard to get into K dramas where the casts

  So wow, this is not just a one off all the comments that I read

  today have hundreds if not thousands of likes on each one.

  People Co signing this hot take. So this hot take and this all

  their hot take are very similar. ADW 477 Three said a lot of

  people who don't watch dramas because they don't find certain
• 11:58
  leads attractive are shallow. Damn and shocked.

  And it leads to talent not being appreciated.

  So many side actors in K drama world should be leads.

  You can see that a ton of people agree.

  They don't watch ugly people on screen.

  And then there's a ton of people who also on the flip side, think

  that those people are shallow and vain and they're fucking

  with the industry. They're making it what it is,

  this beauty pageant versus, you know, something that is robust,
• 12:34
  that has a lot of different faces and is mostly concerned
• 12:39
  with talent and the ability to to sell a story.

  So, Carol, what have you to say? Listen, I, I, oh, oh, I don't

  agree with the first comments that.

  Can't get into. It really hard yeah I I've been

  in the in watching the industry for a long time to appreciates

  good stories and then you'll be watching me and you're like oh

  like at first I didn't think he was hot but he or she kind of

  always had a skewed view of what is attractive and what is not

  compared to the homegrown audience in South Korea.

  Co, I know I said I hate them, but whatever, it's a love hate

  relationship, but I, I do feel like the Juji hoons have gained

  global appeal. While their appeal has been

  growing domestically, it's sort of expanded or boomed when the

  whole world got into it and just what people find attractive.

  I have a really good friend who does not watch anything that she

  doesn't think they're hot. So I know some of them

  first got into K dramas that I went down a rabbit hole of

  Lehman Ho dramas because I was obsessed with Lehman Ho and I

  thought he was so hot. And I can understand how people

  that are just starting on this K drama journey might just fall

  back on that and be like, everyone's so hot and just
