- 0:00Carmen Lezeth: Hey everyone, welcome to All About the Joy.
- 0:03Carmen Lezeth: I'm Carmen Lezeth, and today we're gonna do things just a little bit different.
- 0:07Carmen Lezeth: I'm gonna explain to you what all four shows are that fall under the umbrella of All About the Joy.
- 0:14Carmen Lezeth: I'm gonna give you a little bit of a tour, basically.
- 0:17Carmen Lezeth: But here's the thing.
- 0:18Carmen Lezeth: I thought I would start first with telling you why I named it All About the Joy to begin with.
- 0:24Carmen Lezeth: For those of you who've been with us for a long time, you've already heard this story.
- 0:28Carmen Lezeth: And for those of you who are stopping by for the first time, here's a little summary of it all.
- 0:33Carmen Lezeth: I've had a very interesting childhood like so many other people.
- 0:38Carmen Lezeth: Let's just leave it at that for now.
- 0:40Carmen Lezeth: But here's the thing: while I was growing up, no matter what the circumstance was, no matter how hard things got, I was always able to find a little bit of joy, no matter how hard things were.
- 0:53Carmen Lezeth: I understood early on that when you're in a hole, you need to stop digging.
- 0:59Carmen Lezeth: And the way to do that sometimes is just to look up and try to find the light, try to find the silver lining, trying to find the hope, the joy in all of it.
- 1:10Carmen Lezeth: And that's how I got through most of my childhood.
- 1:14Carmen Lezeth: And that is where all about the joy was born.
- 1:17Carmen Lezeth: So first up is our signature show called All About the Joy Friday Night Lives.
- 1:25Carmen Lezeth: So our Friday Night Lives really are the hanging out on the porch kind of thing.
- 1:31Carmen Lezeth: Depending on where you grew up, you probably hung out at the corner store or maybe at the local general store or where I grew up in the city, we would hang out on the street, on the stoop, right?
- 1:44Carmen Lezeth: We would come home from school, from work, from rehearsals, whatever it was you were doing.
- 1:49Carmen Lezeth: And at the end of the day, you would hang out and say hi to your neighbors, there'd be gossip going on.
- 1:54Carmen Lezeth: That's what Friday Night Live is all about.
- 1:58Cynthia Ruiz Lopez: We work at our relationship, and it's not perfect.
- 2:01Cynthia Ruiz Lopez: There is no relationship that is perfect.
- 2:03Cynthia Ruiz Lopez: Correct.
- 2:04Cynthia Ruiz Lopez: And you know, and if down the line we decide we want to get a divorce, then so be it.
- 2:10Cynthia Ruiz Lopez: Then we're happy for each other to be happy with someone else.
- 2:14Cynthia Ruiz Lopez: I gotta text wall what you're saying right now.
- 2:18Andrea: Um you love each other, you will love each other through whatever iterations your relationship is, even if that's separate.
- 2:29Andrea: You don't have what I'm for is people being content and fulfilled, and that can happen in a marriage, it can happen outside a marriage, it can happen for a period of time in a marriage, and then you grow in a different direction, and that's okay.
- 2:46Andrea: But I just don't there's no to me, it's just a archaic kind of institution, and I'm married, my anniversary is tomorrow, so I mean it's just it's a archaic institution that people don't really need.
- 3:04Tony D.: They grow in different directions.
- 3:05Tony D.: I'm seeing a lot more of that's what's concerning me with today's society.
- 3:08Tony D.: There's a lot of people growing in different directions.
- 3:10Andrea: Well, a lot of people choose not to grow, that's the issue.
- 3:13Andrea: People choose a decision not to grow, right?
- 3:17Andrea: And if one person is making the decision not to grow and the other person is making the decision to grow, what are you gonna do?
- 3:25Carmen Lezeth: That is so see, you can come for the laughter, come for the fun, stay for the friends, and maybe get a little bit of wisdom along the way.
- 3:35Carmen Lezeth: I'm not sure, but that's Friday Night Live.
- 3:37Carmen Lezeth: The private lounge.
- 3:39Carmen Lezeth: This is the VIP Velvet Room Lounge at the club kind of place.
- 3:45Carmen Lezeth: Not everybody's invited, but but once you're in, you get to experience the private conversations.
- 3:54Carmen Lezeth: This is where we do most of our interviews.
- 3:56Carmen Lezeth: This is where we do our one-on-one conversations with guests that we are so lucky to have on the show.
- 4:03Carmen Lezeth: Um, yeah, this is where we have full-on deep conversations about those subjects that maybe you want to know more about, but we just didn't have the quiet private time to do.
- 4:16Carmen Lezeth: Time is not as much of a big factor when it's an honest friendship.
- 4:24Carmen Lezeth: Does that make any sense?
- 4:26Maurio Dawson: It made perfect sense.
- 4:27Maurio Dawson: As long as something is sincere and you're coming from a sincere place, no time, it doesn't matter how much time is parents because there are people in my life, even relatives who I see like as friends, who come back into my life and it's like, no time is left.
- 4:43Maurio Dawson: You just pick right back up, the laughter continues, the laughter just it's like we just rev each other.
- 4:52Maurio Dawson: It's just it's family, it's fun, it's love.
- 4:55Maurio Dawson: Love knows love knows no boundaries, love knows it's just it is okay.
- 5:04Maurio Dawson: But let's talk about when friendships bother you because well, because one of the things I I have said is people, I will read you down without even talking about your name.
- 5:17Carmen Lezeth: Let me tell people who are listening.
- 5:19Carmen Lezeth: Like the thing that I find, I guess it's not shocking, but I always like have to mind my P's and Q's because I'm like, was it me?
- 5:28Carmen Lezeth: Was it me?
- 5:29Carmen Lezeth: Because when you're upset with a friend or you're not happy, you lay that shit out on social media, but you won't name them.
- 5:41Maurio Dawson: I'll never name names.
- 5:44Maurio Dawson: And and and so, because the thing is, you know, I'm gonna have to find an outlet because my wife, bless her heart, she would she can think of me talking.
- 5:55Carmen Lezeth: So that's the vibe that lives here.
- 5:57Carmen Lezeth: It's a lot more truth, a lot more honesty, and really just giving us the time to breathe and have those deeper conversations.
- 6:06Carmen Lezeth: Then there's Carmen talks.
- 6:09Carmen Lezeth: This is kind of me at the front stairs, just kind of riffing, talking, saying what I want to say.
- 6:16Carmen Lezeth: I really took this from the whole TED Talk thing.
- 6:19Carmen Lezeth: So it's always gonna be under 20 minutes.
- 6:21Carmen Lezeth: It's always just gonna be me, and it's always gonna be about something that's important to me that I feel the need to share.
- 6:28Carmen Lezeth: And yeah, it's not always going to be polished, but it's always gonna be from the heart, and it's always gonna be something that I feel it necessary to share.
- 6:39Carmen Lezeth: Let's start with what AI stands for.
- 6:42Carmen Lezeth: It stands for artificial intelligence.
- 6:45Carmen Lezeth: But here's the thing that's kind of interesting.
- 6:48Carmen Lezeth: Because we've all seen all of these films like 2001 A Space Odyssey, right, where the villain is Hal, or we've seen movies like War Games, where Joshua, the big, huge, clunky computer, almost starts a war on our behalf because it thinks it's playing a game.
- 7:09Carmen Lezeth: We've seen all of these types of movies that make AI out to be the bad guy, right?
- 7:16Carmen Lezeth: So I get it.
- 7:17Carmen Lezeth: I get why there's so much fear.
- 7:19Carmen Lezeth: It also feels really big, but I want you to think about AI the way that I do.
- 7:25Carmen Lezeth: And look, it this is gonna be super simplistic, but I think I'm just gonna own up to it.
- 7:31Carmen Lezeth: The way in which I learn things is like if I'm still a kid.
- 7:35Carmen Lezeth: And so I want to invite you to be a little bit open-minded about it as I explain it the way that I know it.
- 7:41Carmen Lezeth: And hopefully that will get you involved in starting to use it on a regular basis.
- 7:47Carmen Lezeth: So those are Carmen talks.
- 7:49Carmen Lezeth: Those are kind of fun to do too.
- 7:52Carmen Lezeth: And finally, culture and consequence.
- 7:55Carmen Lezeth: So this is kind of the chess table at the park under the shaded tree where you have the big time conversations, right?
- 8:05Carmen Lezeth: And this is the show where we're gonna talk about politics, we're gonna talk about religion, we're gonna talk about societal issues that are affecting everyone.
- 8:15Carmen Lezeth: We're going to go at it and we're probably going to have some disagreements.
- 8:19Carmen Lezeth: But at the end of the day, we're always going to come from a place of positivity and joy and hopefully some sort of consensus.
- 8:27Carmen Lezeth: But culture and consequence is going to be probably a little bit more of the fiery show, but still, at the end of the day, it's always going to be all about the joy.
- 8:38Carmen Lezeth: I think the flip side of it for me was I didn't know anything about Reagan.
- 8:43Carmen Lezeth: I grew up the way I grew up, which was without parents basically, and at the age of 12.
- 8:49Carmen Lezeth: And so I was in survival mode on a day-to-day.
- 8:53Carmen Lezeth: And I would also say in my neighborhood, I don't remember politics being the thing we discussed.
- 8:58Carmen Lezeth: Like I don't ever remember politics being something that was important or I didn't know anything about it.
- 9:06Andrea: I mean, look, there is a lot of opportunity here.
- 9:08Andrea: There's no doubt about it, right?
- 9:10Andrea: Like, you know, in my own family, living proof of like you can come to this country and you can make a great life for yourself.
- 9:19Andrea: Right.
- 9:19Andrea: And there are millions of people who have done that over, you know, the last couple of hundred years, right?
- 9:26Andrea: Um, but there are issues, right?
- 9:29Andrea: There are problems, there are things that we have not dealt with that we deny, that we cover up.
- 9:35Andrea: And I completely agree with you to actually look at those things honestly and be able to say, yeah, hey, we did this.
- 9:44Andrea: Um, it's terrible that we did this.
- 9:47Andrea: Here's what we learned, and now we're gonna move forward.
- 9:50Andrea: Um, that's something that we have really not done in any large-scale way that would be so, so beneficial.
- 9:59Andrea: I mean, that's how people grow.
- 10:01Andrea: Everybody knows that's how people grow, right?
- 10:04Andrea: You own up to your mistakes, you take responsibility, and you do better.
- 10:09Andrea: We all know that.
- 10:11Andrea: I don't know why it's so hard.
- 10:14Carmen Lezeth: But this is what what this is what we're going to discuss and fix about our country in our podcast, right?
- 10:21Carmen Lezeth: This is that that's what we're here to do.
- 10:23Carmen Lezeth: We're going to figure out what's wrong with this mofo country and fix it.
- 10:29Carmen Lezeth: Look, we're not always going to chase headlines, but we're always going to chase meaning and culture and consequence.
- 10:36Carmen Lezeth: So there you have it.
- 10:38Carmen Lezeth: The entire neighborhood.
- 10:40Carmen Lezeth: You totally get it.
- 10:41Carmen Lezeth: You understand all four shows now.
- 10:44Carmen Lezeth: At the end of this, you'll be able to see the schedule because it will change every once in a while.
- 10:48Carmen Lezeth: But basically, Friday night live is a Friday, 6 p.m.
- 10:51Carmen Lezeth: Pacific, 9 p.m.
- 10:52Carmen Lezeth: Eastern.
- 10:53Carmen Lezeth: We have the private lounge that is always on Sundays at 12 o'clock Pacific, 3 p.m.
- 10:59Carmen Lezeth: Eastern.
- 11:00Carmen Lezeth: That's when those go live.
- 11:02Carmen Lezeth: Um, Thursday nights will be culture and consequence.
- 11:05Carmen Lezeth: Those go 6 p.m.
- 11:06Carmen Lezeth: Pacific, 9 p.m.
- 11:07Carmen Lezeth: Eastern.
- 11:07Carmen Lezeth: And Carmen Talks are whenever I feel the need to share them.
- 11:12Carmen Lezeth: But they'll always be in one of those slots either way, because that's kind of how we do it.
- 11:18Carmen Lezeth: So, but look at whether you're here just to hang out, or you're here because you want to make new friends, or you're here because you want to contribute in a way that is um, you know, friendly and kind and also inspirational, aspirational, or you just have a question or you want to learn something, this is the place for you.
- 11:37Carmen Lezeth: It doesn't matter.
- 11:38Carmen Lezeth: It doesn't matter your age, it doesn't matter where you come from, what you believe in.
- 11:43Carmen Lezeth: Everyone is welcome as long as there is respect and kindness and yeah, a sense of joy.
- 11:49Carmen Lezeth: That doesn't mean we can't have a little biting match every once in a while, but it does mean at the end of the day, it really is all about the joy.
- 11:57Carmen Lezeth: And that's how we end every single segment.
- 12:00Carmen Lezeth: So until next time, thank you so much.
- 12:02Carmen Lezeth: And I'm gonna say it again.
- 12:04Carmen Lezeth: At the end of the day, it really is all about the joy.
- 12:07Carmen Lezeth: Thank you so much for stopping by.
- 12:09Carmen Lezeth: Thanks for stopping by, all about the joy.
- 12:13Carmen Lezeth: Be better and stay beautiful, folks.
- 12:15Carmen Lezeth: Have a sweet day.
