- 0:12Speaker 2: I literally thought like, wow, you know, everybody's a credit,
- 0:19Speaker 2: everybody's a critic.
- 0:20Speaker 1: God damn it.
- 0:21Speaker 3: From Fabulous Las Vegas, Novta. This is pod Therapy, real people,

- 0:33Speaker 3: from the unnamed studio. That's Jim, that's written me on Nick,
- 0:36Speaker 3: It's time for some pot therapy.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Yes, Whitney's back, she's among us.
- 0:42Speaker 4: I had an eventful week.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Tell us about the Savannah bananas. We gotta know is
- 0:47Speaker 1: it worth it?
- 0:48Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 0:48Speaker 5: It was really fucking fun. I have a video to
- 0:52Speaker 5: show you. I can't show, but you know, a video
- 0:56Speaker 5: to show you guys of the the guys sitting in
- 0:59Speaker 5: front of us looked like a family. There's an older,
- 1:02Speaker 5: older gentleman, maybe in his like fifties, his wife. I'm
- 1:06Speaker 5: assuming a child that I'm assuming is there's in like
- 1:09Speaker 5: a teenager.
- 1:09Speaker 4: I'm assuming he's there.
- 1:11Speaker 1: You are assuming the child is there.
- 1:13Speaker 5: To be fair, it did not look like them, just
- 1:17Speaker 5: saying probably adopted or a family. I don't know, but
- 1:20Speaker 5: I think it was their child, all right. So they're
- 1:24Speaker 5: sitting together, and first of all, what sucks is.
- 1:26Speaker 1: The guys alert I have to go.
- 1:30Speaker 5: The guy's tall, and so I'm sitting there and his
- 1:32Speaker 5: head is just blocking like homeplate over me.
- 1:34Speaker 4: I was like, this sucks.
- 1:35Speaker 5: But then what infuriates myself even more Impeter and I
- 1:38Speaker 5: bitched about this half the time, was that this guy
- 1:41Speaker 5: has his cell phone out and what do you think
- 1:44Speaker 5: he's doing on his cell phone?
- 1:45Speaker 4: Beingo he is sitting.
- 1:48Speaker 5: At a Savannah banana game where it is all a show,
- 1:51Speaker 5: which I'm gonna go into that pert next because i
- 1:53Speaker 5: feel like I have like Jacob appreciation and part for
- 1:56Speaker 5: part of this, but like this is a whole production
- 2:00Speaker 5: and this guy is just sitting there and Peter ends
- 2:03Speaker 5: up getting a video because he's going to send it
- 2:05Speaker 5: to his friends, like what the fuck is wrong with
- 2:06Speaker 5: this guy?
- 2:07Speaker 4: And it's like the timing is perfect.
- 2:09Speaker 5: You you scan across the field and then he zooms
- 2:12Speaker 5: in on this guy. And right when he zooms in
- 2:14Speaker 5: on this guy, he's shaking his head like he's upset
- 2:18Speaker 5: he's not eating, and I'm like, what are you doing?
- 2:23Speaker 5: So then you scan up and it's like the players
- 2:27Speaker 5: are on the field doing their dance.
- 2:28Speaker 4: That's all like choreographed.
- 2:30Speaker 2: I'm like, oh yeah, because they're Savannah Banana is like
- 2:33Speaker 2: a whole show within a baseball.
- 2:35Speaker 4: Game, right, they were, But I just wanted to go
- 2:39Speaker 4: see them.
- 2:39Speaker 5: This is part of my like, I don't have forty
- 2:41Speaker 5: things on it, but by forty list and so my
- 2:44Speaker 5: angel husband like books everything, and it is like, yeah,
- 2:47Speaker 5: we'll go to Sandy.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Why are you on the list. I didn't think that's
- 2:50Speaker 1: how those lists work.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I know.
- 2:52Speaker 5: I thought you might have been confused because of someone
- 2:56Speaker 5: else in this, right, Yeah.
- 2:57Speaker 2: I thought these lists were just like, these are things
- 3:00Speaker 2: I would do if I were the type of person
- 3:04Speaker 2: that did did interesting things.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, you're standing on my shoulders, and I need
- 3:09Speaker 1: you to know that. Okay, I laid myself down on
- 3:12Speaker 1: this list bullshit, and because of my failure, now you
- 3:15Speaker 1: can succeed. I'm the Jesus Christ of the forty by
- 3:18Speaker 1: forty you say you laid down, you tripped and fell.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, how I got there's a relevance
- 3:26Speaker 2: tripped and he fell down and then he got up
- 3:29Speaker 2: again and then he tripped and he fell down again,
- 3:31Speaker 2: but got up again, and then he tripped and he
- 3:35Speaker 2: fell down again, hence again.
- 3:37Speaker 1: At that time he was forty and decided to stay there.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Now I've been there for a few months, So how
- 3:42Speaker 1: was it. How's the show?
- 3:43Speaker 2: It was?
- 3:44Speaker 5: It was very fun. It starts early. I mean they
- 3:46Speaker 5: just have stuff going on and all day things.
- 3:49Speaker 4: Yeah, it started.
- 3:50Speaker 5: I think they said think like events start at two pm,
- 3:53Speaker 5: but they didn't actually start untilmost seven, Like, oh, you.
- 3:56Speaker 4: Can go out. They have like baseball stuff for the kids.
- 3:58Speaker 4: I don't know. We didn't go that early. We went
- 4:00Speaker 4: at like four four.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Thirty, still three hours for and there's like.
- 4:05Speaker 5: Stuff going on, Y'alloe waited a line for food and
- 4:08Speaker 5: like a beverage and then found our seats. But it
- 4:10Speaker 5: was so cool, and that's where I found like so
- 4:12Speaker 5: much appreciation. I was like, this is almost like a
- 4:14Speaker 5: Vegas production. Yeah, on a baseball field, and then the
- 4:18Speaker 5: actual baseball sprinkledon.
- 4:19Speaker 4: That is really entertaining as well. They're really good at
- 4:22Speaker 4: their jobs.
- 4:23Speaker 1: It looks like a lot of fun. I watched you
- 4:24Speaker 1: on you would love it, Nick and I are going
- 4:27Speaker 1: we're going on no second, no we're not what. Yeah,
- 4:31Speaker 1: we are. Bought the tickets from Smitty Man.
- 4:36Speaker 3: No, I thought we couldn't get tickets.
- 4:38Speaker 1: No, we got them through Smitty Smitty got us tickets.
- 4:41Speaker 3: No, he said he wasn't able to get us tickets.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Are you sure? This is great? I'm gonna have to
- 4:46Speaker 1: go back and check that text thread. I'm very happy
- 4:48Speaker 1: with this.
- 4:49Speaker 4: You'll want to text threat the belot.
- 4:50Speaker 3: I thought I should I should have not said anything.
- 4:52Speaker 1: No, No, No, it did happen. He struggled with it and
- 4:56Speaker 1: then ultimately solved it. I'll show you it later. Maybe
- 4:59Speaker 1: you're right. Yeah, we have procedures for exactly how to
- 5:02Speaker 1: transfer the tickets and everything, so we got way beyond
- 5:04Speaker 1: him getting stuck. But yeah, where it's gonna be where
- 5:08Speaker 1: your hat is Las Vegas Ball?
- 5:09Speaker 4: Oh yes, we did look at that.
- 5:11Speaker 1: But it was what time is the game that day?
- 5:14Speaker 1: Can I go to this game? To go to the game,
- 5:16Speaker 1: I think, Oh, no, I can't go. Yeah, you're busy.
- 5:19Speaker 2: I'm busy. But it was a daytime thing. I could
- 5:21Speaker 2: have gone. Yeah, but might have even talked about this.
- 5:23Speaker 1: I don't know. I've watched a TV of them. They
- 5:25Speaker 1: like do backflips and stuff and catch the ball and like.
- 5:28Speaker 4: The points system differ and I didn't realize that.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Yeah, and if if a fan catches a fly ball
- 5:33Speaker 1: to now I love it.
- 5:35Speaker 5: There were growing us from like the upper duck. That's
- 5:38Speaker 5: the other thing I liked. They go out into the
- 5:40Speaker 5: crowd all over. It's not like if you just have
- 5:43Speaker 5: good seats you get good treatment. It's like they are
- 5:46Speaker 5: all over that stadium. It was really cool.
- 5:48Speaker 2: So that's what happens with those types of events when
- 5:51Speaker 2: they're still young and they have been going for a
- 5:54Speaker 2: long time, Like we got to get it. Yeah, after
- 5:56Speaker 2: like fifteen twenty years of doing it, all of a sudden,
- 5:58Speaker 2: it's like, oh, yeah, they used to come through all
- 6:00Speaker 2: these areas.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Not anymore. They only do the big places. That's pretty cool.
- 6:07Speaker 1: So where did you see it?
- 6:08Speaker 4: In San Diego? Sandy Whales, Vagina? That's yeah.
- 6:13Speaker 5: And then we had Shenanigans trying to get home today. Also,
- 6:16Speaker 5: speaking of driving, I had a little event, a very
- 6:19Speaker 5: Texan event than when I was riding with my cousin from.
- 6:23Speaker 4: Dallas to Austin.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Horse that would have.
- 6:27Speaker 5: Been more normal, I don't know, more unusual than what
- 6:29Speaker 5: I'm about to share. But this truck was driving like crazy.
- 6:33Speaker 5: We were on the highway and like fly past us
- 6:36Speaker 5: and then kind of like stance, you know, slow down
- 6:39Speaker 5: and go even with us, and then it like swerve over.
- 6:41Speaker 5: It's just being very erratic. I was like, that's crazy.
- 6:43Speaker 5: I would normally ignore that. My cousin, you better on math, Yeah, exactly,
- 6:50Speaker 5: having a bad.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Getting away from the demons. They're going to catch you.
- 6:58Speaker 5: My cousin's driving. He's like, I'm like, oh, what is
- 7:00Speaker 5: wrong with this guy? I was like, I don't know.
- 7:02Speaker 5: He's like, I should have brought my bigger gun.
- 7:04Speaker 4: I was like what. I was like, no, no gun,
- 7:10Speaker 4: the gun.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I'm insufficient murder. I'm going to commit I know.
- 7:14Speaker 4: And instead he called nine one one.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Well before when you call the one in Texas, they say, well,
- 7:23Speaker 1: are you going to handle it? Or did you need
- 7:24Speaker 1: a down?
- 7:26Speaker 2: How bad of a driver do you have to see
- 7:29Speaker 2: on the road to call the police. I'll do it
- 7:32Speaker 2: if I think there's no doubt that you would do it. First, Jee,
- 7:35Speaker 2: Out of the four of us, Jim has the lowest threshold.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Any of you. In general. The parking space bad I'm
- 7:42Speaker 1: nine to one has already been dying, right and I'm
- 7:44Speaker 1: just waiting.
- 7:44Speaker 3: I've done it before. I've done this before.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Shocking to me that Jim is not the one on
- 7:48Speaker 1: this show who was on an hoa board. Yeah, yeah,
- 7:51Speaker 1: it is just that is still just now Okay, my
- 7:54Speaker 1: day is coming.
- 7:55Speaker 3: Right If the driver, if I suspect that they're drunk,
- 8:01Speaker 3: they've been drinking or something like that, and I will
- 8:03Speaker 3: definitely if that's the one I did.
- 8:05Speaker 1: So you you want all the cool people pulled over?
- 8:07Speaker 3: Huh, all right, square whatever a nerd guys, am?
- 8:12Speaker 5: I right?
- 8:14Speaker 4: Yeah, it wasn't eventful week.
- 8:15Speaker 5: I was like, okay, that's a driving Yeah, thats thevan
- 8:19Speaker 5: of bananas was fun.
- 8:20Speaker 4: It was worth it. Yeah, not for the guy in
- 8:23Speaker 4: front of me. He'd rather be at March.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Texas still doing Okay, how how is Texas? Is it
- 8:27Speaker 1: holding up?
- 8:29Speaker 2: I guess it's still hot.
- 8:31Speaker 4: It's it was very very hot there. Yeah, I don't know.
- 8:35Speaker 5: It's very flat and Dallas very pretty and hilly. And
- 8:38Speaker 5: Austin Okay, the traffic's terrible, Like there's there's more orange
- 8:43Speaker 5: cones I think in Austin contection on the roads than.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Austin is the worst city I've ever driven in. Astin
- 8:50Speaker 2: is a terrible city to drive in. I love Austin.
- 8:53Speaker 2: It's a terrible city to drive.
- 8:54Speaker 1: It just constant construction. They're always fixing. It's just not
- 8:57Speaker 1: built for what it is.
- 8:58Speaker 5: It grew way fast, stir then keep up with and
- 9:02Speaker 5: no planning, so they're just bandating.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Like everything and it's put another one here.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Yeah, every third road is a one way street in
- 9:09Speaker 2: a different direction, okay, And like, but but if you
- 9:12Speaker 2: need to turn right, all of the streets are only
- 9:14Speaker 2: going left. Yeah, that's just that's just how that goes.
- 9:17Speaker 2: You'll run it like, no kidding. There are spots where
- 9:20Speaker 2: you're driving down a road and you'll be like, I
- 9:22Speaker 2: have turned right, Oh this is one way street going left.
- 9:25Speaker 2: The next street also going left. And because like the
- 9:29Speaker 2: planning is so poor in spots, they'll have multiple one
- 9:31Speaker 2: way streets the same direction parallel.
- 9:34Speaker 1: To each other. Like it's ridiculous.
- 9:37Speaker 4: It is stunning though.
- 9:37Speaker 5: They have like Ladybird Lake that kind of winds like
- 9:40Speaker 5: a river right in front of the city.
- 9:41Speaker 1: It is.
- 9:42Speaker 4: It's stunning. It's a beautiful.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I've always heard nice things about Austin. You've been
- 9:46Speaker 1: to Austin a couple of.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Times, like that it's but it's it's uh, it is
- 9:50Speaker 3: difficult to drive around in Yeah, for sure.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Well shitty here too. You're holding something there. Ye, good news.
- 9:56Speaker 1: We got a Christmas card March and Jacob.
- 10:02Speaker 3: So Jacob just handed it to me. It's quite possible
- 10:05Speaker 3: we did read this when we got it. Okay, it's
- 10:08Speaker 3: also quite possible that we just got it.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Also. I just found it today and I was like,
- 10:11Speaker 1: I don't know if.
- 10:11Speaker 3: This's ever got a show or not, but happy holidays
- 10:16Speaker 3: from the Tigus, Sam.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Peter and Mayor.
- 10:20Speaker 2: I see a picture in front of the Pinball Hall
- 10:22Speaker 2: of Fame and beautiful Las Vegas, Nevada.
- 10:24Speaker 3: That's giants causeway, I believe right there, giants causeway.
- 10:28Speaker 1: So showcasing their travels and then and the cats. We
- 10:34Speaker 1: have a camera now that is going to get us
- 10:37Speaker 1: banned on Twitch. We cannot show genitals. Jeez's horrible. Don't
- 10:43Speaker 1: start very nice. Well, we've got a big show for
- 10:47Speaker 1: you here today. Don't forget a Patreon dot com slash
- 10:50Speaker 1: therapy can join our pre show hangout, which may or
- 10:54Speaker 1: may not contain video in the near future. We know
- 10:57Speaker 1: it right now living in the future, so check it out.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Patroon dot com slash there. But we've got some great
- 11:04Speaker 1: questions for today, and if you were in the Patreon
- 11:07Speaker 1: you even heard a sizzling teaser all about it. So
- 11:10Speaker 1: we're gonna find out if we live up to the hype.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Let's see, there we go. We're kicking off the questions
- 11:17Speaker 1: with being cyberstalked by my father. Hey, folks, I've been
- 11:21Speaker 1: estranged from and have had no contact with my deadbeat
- 11:25Speaker 1: dad for about fifteen years. To say that he doesn't
- 11:28Speaker 1: agree with this arrangement is an understatement. Over the past decade,
- 11:32Speaker 1: he's done the following non exhaustive laundry list to try
- 11:37Speaker 1: to quote get in touch with me. One called campus
- 11:41Speaker 1: security at my college to do a wellness check on me.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Two called every job I've had to ask to speak
- 11:48Speaker 1: to me. Three located every work email I've had and
- 11:52Speaker 1: has tried to email me. Four emailed family friends distant relatives,
- 11:59Speaker 1: none of whom my month's speaking terms with, to ask
- 12:01Speaker 1: if they will connect with me. The list goes on.
- 12:05Speaker 2: The item that bothers me the most is the emailing,
- 12:08Speaker 2: because it's the most persistent.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Every time I've gotten a new job, I've had to
- 12:12Speaker 1: block his email addresses, but he just keeps making new
- 12:15Speaker 1: ones and emailing me from those. This is a ritual
- 12:18Speaker 1: that repeats every three months or so. It's the most
- 12:21Speaker 1: exhausting game of whack a mole anyone could ever play.
- 12:25Speaker 1: As soon as I think he's gone for good, he's
- 12:27Speaker 1: back at it like a bad case of the fleas.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I never read his emails, but on outlook at least
- 12:33Speaker 1: the first few words are visible in the thumbnail, so
- 12:36Speaker 1: I end up inadvertently reading that before deleting it. Today's
- 12:40Speaker 1: thumbnail from him congratulated me on being involved in child advocacy,
- 12:45Speaker 1: a field I haven't been involved in in almost a decade. Cool. Cool.
- 12:49Speaker 1: I suppose he was just googling me and found an
- 12:51Speaker 1: article or something.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Seems like you should update your social media probably more often.
- 12:56Speaker 2: On your work history side, writers like a mistake that
- 13:01Speaker 2: could have been avoided if you had been a little
- 13:02Speaker 2: more diligent with your LinkedIn prom On Dad's side.
- 13:05Speaker 1: On this, he doesn't know any better. All right, that's
- 13:07Speaker 1: kind of on you, but it makes me white hot
- 13:10Speaker 1: with rage. Part of me does want to respond with
- 13:13Speaker 1: something like, hey, dickhead, if you actually gave a shit
- 13:16Speaker 1: about me, you'd know how out of date this information is.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Fuck off and die already and stop stalking me. End quote.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Apologies for the stream of consciousness, but the cycle of
- 13:25Speaker 1: blocking his emails, the leading new addresses, rinse and repeat
- 13:28Speaker 1: is absolutely exhausting to me, not to mention they come
- 13:32Speaker 1: in on my work email, which is very distracting from
- 13:36Speaker 1: actual work. When the lone sight of his name popping
- 13:40Speaker 1: up fills me with instant anger and panic. Yeah, my
- 13:44Speaker 1: mom otherwise known as his ex wife, has suggested a
- 13:48Speaker 1: restraining order, but I honestly don't want to give him
- 13:51Speaker 1: the validation of knowing that he's gotten to me. I
- 13:55Speaker 1: also don't want, read don't have the energy to invest
- 13:59Speaker 1: the time and money into anything involving him. Thoughts on
- 14:03Speaker 1: strategies to manage the triggering effect of a new outreach
- 14:07Speaker 1: attempt from him. No matter what I do, I have
- 14:10Speaker 1: a hunch this is just something I'm going to have
- 14:13Speaker 1: to deal with for a very long time. Appreciate you all.
- 14:16Speaker 1: I appreciate you all. Anonymous. Well, Anonymous, I'm glad you're
- 14:20Speaker 1: listening because we have another letter here just for you. Hello, Anonymous,
- 14:25Speaker 1: it's me Dad, really proud of you. Call me lots
- 14:32Speaker 1: of love daddy. So yeah, he was on point, he
- 14:38Speaker 1: was ready, so spots of the show.
- 14:44Speaker 3: So here's what's interesting about this because my first thought
- 14:48Speaker 3: was just, yeah, this seems very intense. This seems like
- 14:52Speaker 3: a very strong reaction. And then my second thought was
- 14:57Speaker 3: if Jim's adult children, ye stop talking to.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Him, Yes, I am so much would he? That's so
- 15:05Speaker 1: much worse.
- 15:06Speaker 3: I know because I was like, yep, you do that
- 15:08Speaker 3: email that you would do that email? He would your
- 15:11Speaker 3: words that he has not shown up where you were.
- 15:15Speaker 3: But let's just talk about email for a moment. If
- 15:17Speaker 3: it was Jim, there would be.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Multiple bots set up that would be emailing you automatically
- 15:22Speaker 2: all the time, like it would be a constant street.
- 15:25Speaker 2: It would be an email every hour on the hour
- 15:28Speaker 2: at minimum. It would be text messages, it would be
- 15:31Speaker 2: Facebook messages, it would be any kind of messages that
- 15:33Speaker 2: he could do.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Honestly, we're not being fair.
- 15:35Speaker 3: He yes, he would do that if his children stop
- 15:37Speaker 3: talking about He would also do that if I stopped
- 15:39Speaker 3: talking to him.
- 15:39Speaker 4: Yes, yeah, I thought even if they were still talking to.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Like, I know the route you pay to the gym,
- 15:46Speaker 1: I would be on that route with a sign that says,
- 15:49Speaker 1: call me please, What did I do wrong? Dressed up
- 15:52Speaker 1: as I mean, I have the outfit the news god
- 15:57Speaker 1: kind of a big deal. That is the creepiest thing
- 16:00Speaker 1: the planet.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Yeah, well other people describe it as charming. Yeah, those
- 16:04Speaker 2: people are members of NAMBLA NAMBLA.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Are we support that? We are? So how do we
- 16:13Speaker 1: feel about this?
- 16:13Speaker 2: So?
- 16:14Speaker 1: Like, obviously for Anonymous's sake, I mean, Anonymous is saying, look,
- 16:17Speaker 1: this sucks. Like it's not charming, it's not cute. I
- 16:20Speaker 1: don't see this as paternal. He's been a deadbeat to me.
- 16:24Speaker 1: I've chosen to pull him out of my life. You
- 16:27Speaker 1: no longer have the luxury of access to me, and
- 16:29Speaker 1: so you don't get to keep pushing. And at some
- 16:33Speaker 1: point whenever you keep pushing this way though I have
- 16:35Speaker 1: clearly said no, and I've not made myself any more
- 16:38Speaker 1: available than the past. It's not cute, Like, it's not charming,
- 16:42Speaker 1: it's it's harassment.
- 16:43Speaker 5: Right, Yeah, that I would this lack of sense of
- 16:48Speaker 5: control over that, like somebody just inserting themselves and having
- 16:51Speaker 5: the ability to insert themselves into your lives, especially when
- 16:54Speaker 5: you're at work and your brain is somewhere totally out
- 16:57Speaker 5: like different, and maybe you've blocked him for a while
- 17:00Speaker 5: after a month or two and you have to see
- 17:04Speaker 5: that again. That that's a terrible feeling, and I'm so
- 17:07Speaker 5: sorry that that you're going through that. I think the
- 17:10Speaker 5: triggering effect is very understandable. I I know you said
- 17:15Speaker 5: you don't really want to go through the stress or
- 17:18Speaker 5: money or whateverything's involved with like their straining order. And
- 17:22Speaker 5: this is from someone who does not know I know
- 17:24Speaker 5: a teeny bit of how restraining orders work. I don't
- 17:27Speaker 5: know if you're even and there's an option for this.
- 17:30Speaker 5: I know that they don't cost any money. Think you
- 17:32Speaker 5: just go in a courthouse and file it. Maybe that's
- 17:40Speaker 5: just for the temporary ones, so don't I don't quote
- 17:43Speaker 5: me on any of that, but there's a possibility it
- 17:45Speaker 5: won't cost you money. It may cost you time. But
- 17:48Speaker 5: the amount of time and energy you're spending on being
- 17:53Speaker 5: like just on edge, I imagine that costs a lot
- 17:56Speaker 5: of anxiety of just I don't know. Every time you
- 17:59Speaker 5: log into your email is a teeny part of you
- 18:01Speaker 5: just thinking what if there's an email in there from him?
- 18:03Speaker 3: I also get the writer's other point about that, which
- 18:07Speaker 3: is that if I do this, then it sends the
- 18:09Speaker 3: message that he knows that I've been.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Getting the messages. Yeah, and I'm tired of him.
- 18:13Speaker 3: Where it's like there is a little bit of power
- 18:16Speaker 3: in being able to say to send the illusion that
- 18:19Speaker 3: like nothing's getting through.
- 18:20Speaker 4: Okay, No, no, I have.
- 18:22Speaker 5: I have pushed back to that because I saw with
- 18:23Speaker 5: this and my thoughts are, who fucking cares if he
- 18:27Speaker 5: gets satisfaction or not. We aren't in the business of
- 18:29Speaker 5: catering to anything he's thinking feeling.
- 18:31Speaker 2: Okay, I agree with all of that. I was going
- 18:33Speaker 2: to wrap back around to the kind of ghosting strategy
- 18:37Speaker 2: anyway in talking about, like what is the most effective
- 18:41Speaker 2: strategy to actually stop the communication?
- 18:43Speaker 1: Hasn't worked?
- 18:44Speaker 4: It does ten years but no, no.
- 18:46Speaker 1: I'm saying like it. But that's the conversation I want
- 18:48Speaker 1: to have.
- 18:48Speaker 2: It's like, so, like, let's because you guys are all
- 18:50Speaker 2: talking about you know, the relationships and all that kind
- 18:52Speaker 2: of thing, and like, great, now let's talk about what
- 18:56Speaker 2: the actual effective strategies to get someone to stop interacting
- 18:59Speaker 2: with you are. Okay, And like, ghosting is solid. Ghosting
- 19:02Speaker 2: is usually a pretty solid strategy.
- 19:03Speaker 1: If they get the point. Yeah, give a fuck, Yeah,
- 19:06Speaker 1: but I brought this up as a joke. But let's
- 19:10Speaker 1: just play it through. Okay, if this was your children, Yeah,
- 19:14Speaker 1: what would dissuade you?
- 19:15Speaker 2: Boy?
- 19:15Speaker 1: It's going to take a restraining order?
- 19:17Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.
- 19:18Speaker 2: There needs to be a legal consequence, and even that
- 19:21Speaker 2: is gonna be and you can, according might take a
- 19:24Speaker 2: couple of days in the jail. Yeah, according to what
- 19:28Speaker 2: I'm looking up, now you you are able to get Again,
- 19:31Speaker 2: we know nothing about this, don't take but I just
- 19:35Speaker 2: looked up can you get a restraining order that will
- 19:37Speaker 2: stop someone from sending you an email? And the answer
- 19:40Speaker 2: is yes, you can get You can get a restraining
- 19:42Speaker 2: order that says, you know, no contact by any means
- 19:45Speaker 2: covering all of that. So like it exists. But yeah,
- 19:49Speaker 2: the question is like, Jim, so if your adult kids
- 19:52Speaker 2: got a restraining order and this imaginary land that will
- 19:55Speaker 2: definitely happen in a few years, crystal inevitable, would a
- 20:00Speaker 2: restraining order stop you from doing anything?
- 20:04Speaker 1: I feel like.
- 20:05Speaker 2: If you're if you're making the effort to communicate with
- 20:07Speaker 2: someone who clearly doesn't want your communication.
- 20:09Speaker 4: Anyway, I think no response makes you think I have
- 20:11Speaker 4: a chance.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Oh yeah, maybe no, I think if somebody is delusional
- 20:16Speaker 1: or relentless, maybe they needed direct Let me.
- 20:19Speaker 4: Preface that the writer's fault. You're not telling them.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, but no, you're right, Whitney, Like, I feel
- 20:24Speaker 1: like silence is this. You know, there's a lack of
- 20:26Speaker 1: a message in silence, and people get to interpret whatever
- 20:29Speaker 1: they want in that message. So they might be thinking, oh,
- 20:32Speaker 1: you're reading this, yeah you know, and like that. That
- 20:35Speaker 1: happened to me. Oh, by the way, turn.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Off your red receipts on everything. This isn't just for
- 20:40Speaker 2: the writer. This is just anybody who can hear me
- 20:42Speaker 2: right now? Why do you have your red receipts turned on? Yeah?
- 20:46Speaker 1: Why have them turned on? This happened to.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Me where I'm always so confused when I get a
- 20:50Speaker 2: red receipt from it like any format, But what why
- 20:53Speaker 2: do you have this?
- 20:54Speaker 1: I had gone to a football game and and I
- 20:56Speaker 1: had met this really cool fan or not cool, but
- 20:58Speaker 1: just a polite person was sitting next to me and
- 21:01Speaker 1: they were like, oh, you and your buddy are posing.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Do you want me to take a picture of you guys
- 21:04Speaker 1: and I'll text it to you. And I was like, great, Yeah,
- 21:08Speaker 1: you could just take my phone but whatever, okay, Like
- 21:11Speaker 1: we're having a great time. So the guy takes a
- 21:12Speaker 1: couple of good pictures of us. He's like great, you know,
- 21:14Speaker 1: I'll text you which your number. I'm like great, I
- 21:15Speaker 1: give my number and he texted me them and like
- 21:17Speaker 1: I'm like great. And then that night he texted me
- 21:19Speaker 1: again and he's like, man, that was such a great game,
- 21:21Speaker 1: wasn't it. And I was like, yeah, yep, go rebels.
- 21:24Speaker 2: You know, bye forever right, Like I think we're done here,
- 21:27Speaker 2: the entire transaction is complete. I kept getting like photos
- 21:31Speaker 2: from this guy yep. And then he went online and
- 21:34Speaker 2: he found news articles of me wearing my crazy ass
- 21:36Speaker 2: hat and he started sending me the news articles, which
- 21:39Speaker 2: at first I was like, okay, I get it. You
- 21:41Speaker 2: were there, you took pictures of me with the hat.
- 21:43Speaker 2: You're letting me know, hey dude, this is online.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Your famous. Like great, but also we've met once and
- 21:48Speaker 1: like I wouldn't even say we've met. And at some
- 21:50Speaker 1: point I had to block this guy because it just
- 21:52Speaker 1: it was every day, it was another mess wow. And
- 21:55Speaker 1: I was like, all right, I'll tell you, so finally
- 22:00Speaker 1: block him. Second text message would have been the point
- 22:02Speaker 1: where I blocked him. I block him eventually, and then
- 22:06Speaker 1: I go to another football game, and this is like
- 22:08Speaker 1: a month later.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, you know what I believe
- 22:15Speaker 2: in God.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Yes, this is the day that we conver if there's
- 22:21Speaker 3: a god who just maliciously antagonizes Jim sold.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Like, oh.
- 22:29Speaker 3: God, I just need to know you're just gonna pick
- 22:30Speaker 3: on this guy. I just needed to be realistic. So
- 22:34Speaker 3: I see it burning bush. Just hey watch this.
- 22:37Speaker 1: I'm chilling in my chair and I get a tap
- 22:39Speaker 1: on the shoulder and I turn around and it's the
- 22:41Speaker 1: guy and I'm like, hey, bore, he goes, did you
- 22:45Speaker 1: I was texting you from my seat to let you
- 22:48Speaker 1: know that I'm here. I took some pictures, like why
- 22:51Speaker 1: aren't you getting him? I was like, it is so
- 22:55Speaker 1: I let him know. Yeah, the daddy dick. So yeah.
- 22:59Speaker 2: So I'm like I had to face this whole awkward Oh.
- 23:02Speaker 2: I don't know how to back my way out of this, right,
- 23:04Speaker 2: Like I blocked you?
- 23:06Speaker 1: Sorry?
- 23:08Speaker 2: Oh you I didn't know. Yes, I would have been like,
- 23:12Speaker 2: I don't know, man, so my phone must be crazy.
- 23:17Speaker 4: Number.
- 23:17Speaker 3: I'd have been like, hey, I'm gonna go grab a beer.
- 23:19Speaker 1: You want one? And then I was.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Yeah, like for cigarettes, I'll we're a little light on
- 23:30Speaker 2: milk champ. I'm just gonna make a quick run.
- 23:34Speaker 1: On you. Go ahead and put on a movie. I'll
- 23:36Speaker 1: be right back.
- 23:37Speaker 2: While I'm gone. Take care of your mom for me.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Take care of your mom. You're the man of the
- 23:40Speaker 2: house now.
- 23:42Speaker 1: So this guy is he's like flicking through his phone saying, oh,
- 23:44Speaker 1: you didn't get my messages. As he's flicking, I can
- 23:47Speaker 1: see this thing is going and going. Yeah, it's been
- 23:52Speaker 1: multiple hits a day. But my point to agree with
- 23:56Speaker 1: Whitney is, on the other hand, until you could have
- 23:58Speaker 1: missed out on a wonderful friend. No, well, none of
- 24:01Speaker 1: you try to reach out to me. You know, you
- 24:04Speaker 1: guys dodge me.
- 24:05Speaker 3: I would you would think you would take the hill. Yeah,
- 24:08Speaker 3: well this is I guess the point. I guess this
- 24:10Speaker 3: is the same point we're all making. Is that me
- 24:12Speaker 3: weird guy at the football game, an anonymous cuckoo dad.
- 24:16Speaker 3: We are all interpreting the wrong message from silence and
- 24:18Speaker 3: so like up until this guy realized, until I told
- 24:21Speaker 3: him to his face, hey bro, I blocked you.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Sorry, I don't know you. I don't want to stay
- 24:25Speaker 1: in touch. Up until that moment you said that. Yeah,
- 24:29Speaker 1: and I think I'm sure it wasn't that graceful. I'm
- 24:32Speaker 1: sure it was a lot and and I didn't know
- 24:35Speaker 1: what to do, oh my, but yeah, no, it was awkward.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Like I am furious, okay that you did not record
- 24:42Speaker 1: this interaction. It's like you don't even I'm out on
- 24:48Speaker 1: the god thing. I know.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, he'll spend six hours talking about ADHD.
- 24:53Speaker 3: But when he finally has a story, we want to hear.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, just hit record. My point is, doesn't
- 24:58Speaker 1: record jim thing I did. Fuck me? So they get
- 25:02Speaker 1: with the camera. I should just pose with this guy
- 25:04Speaker 1: and like lick the tears off of his face. But yeah,
- 25:07Speaker 1: so I agree. I think that an anonymous case whenever
- 25:10Speaker 1: you're just silencing all these things. And I assume that
- 25:12Speaker 1: Dad is not delusional. Dad's aware that. And it's probably
- 25:16Speaker 1: because Dad keeps going through family and all these other routes.
- 25:18Speaker 1: It sort of communicates a Dad that is not unaware,
- 25:22Speaker 1: not the blocking. But I guess, yeah, I can see
- 25:24Speaker 1: a situation where they do not understand how much this
- 25:28Speaker 1: bothers you, and like you need that positive feedback loop
- 25:32Speaker 1: at some point. So I think that all of us
- 25:34Speaker 1: are saying, please be open to thinking more about that
- 25:37Speaker 1: writer like that. That is a tool, that's probably the
- 25:40Speaker 1: only tool that's going to make a difference in this case.
- 25:42Speaker 2: What do you think of sending Dad a letter, an email, dick,
- 25:46Speaker 2: a tasteful dick pick.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Get the message?
- 25:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it gets the message, no words, just a picture
- 25:53Speaker 2: of a dick.
- 25:53Speaker 1: It's just but this Dad's gonna be like, I'm just
- 25:55Speaker 1: so proud of you, Like, that's my boy.
- 25:59Speaker 2: I don't think we know the gender of this person.
- 26:01Speaker 2: I think we don't have I don't think they can.
- 26:03Speaker 2: I think that's rooting for it. I don't think it
- 26:05Speaker 2: has to be a dick that you own, right, yea,
- 26:08Speaker 2: if this is your partners, I don't.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Think you have to know the dick at all. That's true.
- 26:12Speaker 1: But what do you think of just.
- 26:13Speaker 2: Sending a if Dad is if it's possible, I guess
- 26:19Speaker 2: that Dad is unaware, ambiguous on the messaging here at all.
- 26:24Speaker 1: What do we think of just sending a.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Letter to Dad, just saying some kind of Hey, here
- 26:29Speaker 2: is here is my bottom line, This is how I
- 26:32Speaker 2: can Here's how I look at our relationship.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Here is you know what?
- 26:35Speaker 2: Here is the lack of relationship that I see here,
- 26:39Speaker 2: and if you keep on doing this, I'm going to
- 26:42Speaker 2: have to take the step of getting a restraining order.
- 26:45Speaker 2: It's not it's not anything that I want to do.
- 26:48Speaker 2: I'd like you still to be able to contact me
- 26:50Speaker 2: in case of an emergency or however you want to
- 26:51Speaker 2: phrase it. You do, you do you, but however you
- 26:54Speaker 2: want to say that, what do you think about it?
- 26:56Speaker 2: I'm just kind of like that, like, here's your final warning, Pie,
- 26:59Speaker 2: And if I if I hear back from you anything
- 27:02Speaker 2: other than hey, okay and understood, uh, we're gonna We're
- 27:06Speaker 2: gon We're gonna have to go that route.
- 27:07Speaker 1: I don't know about you guys, but I think if
- 27:09Speaker 1: that hasn't already happened at some point, that has to happen, right, Yeah.
- 27:12Speaker 1: I'd assume that Anonymous has probably done one or.
- 27:15Speaker 4: Too, but I don't know. I don't think to try
- 27:20Speaker 4: one more time and then be like all right.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Yeah. It's tough because writers saying like, Okay, look, you know,
- 27:26Speaker 1: I have my own feelings on whether I'm gonna do
- 27:27Speaker 1: the restraining order. Mom's trying to push me toward it. Obviously,
- 27:30Speaker 1: you guys are giving me feedback as well. But writer
- 27:32Speaker 1: is saying, like, how do I just live my life
- 27:36Speaker 1: and avoid being like triggered in this way? Thoughts on
- 27:40Speaker 1: strategies to manage the triggering effect when I get another
- 27:44Speaker 1: ping from him? And gosh, man, I mean I don't know,
- 27:48Speaker 1: like constantly being barraged by somebody that causes you sadness
- 27:52Speaker 1: and anxiety and no matter, you can't possibly purge them
- 27:56Speaker 1: from your life. Assuming that you know the restraining order
- 27:59Speaker 1: is not an option, how do you just numb yourself
- 28:02Speaker 1: to that?
- 28:02Speaker 3: Well, I mean that's the thing. It's like, if the
- 28:04Speaker 3: restraint you say, if the restraining orders is not an option,
- 28:07Speaker 3: I think it kind of has to be an option, because, like,
- 28:09Speaker 3: if you're dealing with the emotional baggage of this, you
- 28:13Speaker 3: either have to, you know, when we're talking about the triggers,
- 28:16Speaker 3: you either have to improve coping skills to deal with
- 28:20Speaker 3: the trigger or you have to remove the stimulus. Yeah.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Yeah, Like it's.
- 28:23Speaker 3: Going to be one of those two. Yeah, And the
- 28:25Speaker 3: easiest would be to remove the stimulus, which is.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Going to be the restraining order. Yeah.
- 28:30Speaker 2: And of course with the restraining order, you know, don't
- 28:32Speaker 2: take any good advice from us except talk to a lawyer.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Talk to somebody who.
- 28:36Speaker 4: Actually knows the law, will give you a few minutes first.
- 28:39Speaker 2: I was going to say, I was gonna say, like,
- 28:41Speaker 2: if you call a lawyer's office, call them up, don't
- 28:44Speaker 2: sit them inn, or maybe an email might work too.
- 28:46Speaker 2: I don't know how it all works now, but get
- 28:48Speaker 2: in contact with them and you'll give a quick summation
- 28:52Speaker 2: of your situation and just say, you know, is there
- 28:55Speaker 2: an attorney that I could speak to for fifteen minutes
- 29:00Speaker 2: and you know, could you give me a free fifteen
- 29:03Speaker 2: minutes to give you the broad strokes of this. You
- 29:06Speaker 2: say yes or no, we should proceed with this, we
- 29:08Speaker 2: should not, or you give me that advice from there,
- 29:11Speaker 2: and then we'll decide what to do.
- 29:13Speaker 1: On the side of Like in a world where we
- 29:15Speaker 1: just have to deal with the trigger, I guess the
- 29:18Speaker 1: only thought or advice I would have on that is
- 29:20Speaker 1: trying our best to do some kind of reframing technique
- 29:23Speaker 1: so that we can reinterpret what's happening. We all get
- 29:27Speaker 1: spam all the time. I mean, I don't know about
- 29:29Speaker 1: you guys, but when this probably happens to you, they'll
- 29:31Speaker 1: look up your MPI number or something and you'll get
- 29:34Speaker 1: these text messages that from like collectors or like folks
- 29:39Speaker 1: that can do processing for insurance payments. Yeah, and they're
- 29:42Speaker 1: always like, hey, you know, we'll change the rate or
- 29:44Speaker 1: whatever we are collecting company or whatever we're whatever. Those
- 29:47Speaker 1: guys are called credentialers and billers, and so like, we
- 29:50Speaker 1: get spammed all the time, you know, we all do
- 29:53Speaker 1: as a society. And the Patreon we were talking about
- 29:55Speaker 1: the relentless, endless advertising reality that we live in. Yeah,
- 29:59Speaker 1: but there I could see a world where anonymous works
- 30:03Speaker 1: really hard to reframe this barrage as as innocuous to
- 30:09Speaker 1: them as hey, we're trying to reach you about your
- 30:12Speaker 1: auto warranty, right, Like it's always annoying, but I think
- 30:15Speaker 1: there's a lot of us who actually do get really
- 30:17Speaker 1: pissed off. Like whenever it's like you're doing this again,
- 30:19Speaker 1: you're still trying to reach me from out of ward again, right,
- 30:23Speaker 1: Or you're at Low's and the guy comes up to
- 30:24Speaker 1: you a second time about solar panels, Like there's a
- 30:26Speaker 1: part of us that can get upset about that. There's
- 30:29Speaker 1: a reframe if it was happening over and over again,
- 30:31Speaker 1: where it's groundhog Day, where you develop almost a sense
- 30:34Speaker 1: of humor about it, and like you go through this
- 30:36Speaker 1: like motion of telling yourself, Yep, it's just more spam.
- 30:39Speaker 1: My spam filter caught it. Let me throw it out.
- 30:41Speaker 3: Difference between those two is what it means to that person.
- 30:44Speaker 1: The meaning is everything.
- 30:45Speaker 3: Right like and so for the writer, maybe this would
- 30:49Speaker 3: be something to kind of think about, is like when
- 30:52Speaker 3: this when you get these messages, what does this mean
- 30:55Speaker 3: to you? Like, what's the meaning that you give it?
- 30:57Speaker 3: Like and it sounds like and I don't want to
- 30:59Speaker 3: put words in your mouth, but it almost kind of
- 31:01Speaker 3: sounds like there's a deep hurt and resentment that like
- 31:05Speaker 3: now you're trying to reach out maybe, And so I
- 31:08Speaker 3: think that's where a lot of this is coming from.
- 31:10Speaker 3: And maybe that's something to kind of work through in
- 31:13Speaker 3: therapy because I think if you're able to kind of
- 31:16Speaker 3: take some of that away from it and some of
- 31:18Speaker 3: that power, then these triggers become less intense.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Well, I think another interpretation could be I said no,
- 31:24Speaker 1: you fuck you know I've said no, and like that's
- 31:26Speaker 1: one of the most annoying things in the world is
- 31:28Speaker 1: when it's like no means fucking no, and somebody keeps
- 31:30Speaker 1: pushing anyway. It's really hard to reframe and reinterpret that
- 31:35Speaker 1: as benign or laughable or just wave your hand like whatever.
- 31:39Speaker 1: They don't get it, but I guess I don't know.
- 31:41Speaker 3: I don't want your solar panels.
- 31:43Speaker 1: But you do. I know you do. I need to
- 31:46Speaker 1: how much money? You could say? I do? Yeah, I
- 31:50Speaker 1: do want it.
- 31:51Speaker 5: I feel like it goes on too something though, where
- 31:53Speaker 5: it will feel less painful if you can work through
- 31:56Speaker 5: some of that art and maybe you already have worked
- 31:58Speaker 5: on that, but there does sound like there's lot of
- 32:00Speaker 5: emotion behind. Yeah, just the reaction right now, and if
- 32:04Speaker 5: it's been fifteen years that they've been out of your life,
- 32:07Speaker 5: like that tells me there's still an open wound there.
- 32:10Speaker 4: Right, maybe needs well and it's tough.
- 32:12Speaker 1: It's similar to me or adjacent to those who live
- 32:15Speaker 1: with their abuser, right that somehow for whatever.
- 32:18Speaker 4: Working with teenagers, I think about this because they don't
- 32:20Speaker 4: have control.
- 32:22Speaker 1: And they still live at their abusers. They can't get
- 32:24Speaker 1: up and it's like I have to see this person
- 32:26Speaker 1: every single day. They don't take no for an answer.
- 32:28Speaker 1: I'm not allowed to establish boundaries of them. What do
- 32:30Speaker 1: I do? And sometimes in those situations as a really
- 32:33Speaker 1: hard lift therapeutically.
- 32:34Speaker 2: To teach them like almost mindfulness, almost like you have
- 32:38Speaker 2: to detach from the emotional reality except the presence of
- 32:42Speaker 2: resentment and fear and frustration as just a being in
- 32:45Speaker 2: the room with you that is not you, right, and
- 32:48Speaker 2: like allow it to pass through without reaction. It's some
- 32:51Speaker 2: pretty advanced level shit.
- 32:53Speaker 1: It's not easy to do. Yeah, honestly, I think that
- 32:56Speaker 1: the restraining order is cheaper than all the therapy. But
- 32:59Speaker 1: fair are the ideas on the table. Writer, But again,
- 33:02Speaker 1: you know we we support you in this. Unless your
- 33:06Speaker 1: dad patrons the show, then I I'm not all It
- 33:08Speaker 1: depends on what level okay, yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
- 33:11Speaker 1: level wins yeah yeah yeah, top level winds there, it
- 33:14Speaker 1: is absolutely so just know where we stand. Writer, You
- 33:17Speaker 1: knew what this was. You wrote into the show. You
- 33:19Speaker 1: better just jump up to their partners better get you
- 33:24Speaker 1: might want to pioneer some new ground. You're a little preemptive.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Otherwise every show you listen is gonna be brought to
- 33:29Speaker 1: you by anonymous dad. We're gonna take quick break.
- 33:34Speaker 3: When we come back.
- 33:35Speaker 1: There will be no naming the studio. Just to try
- 33:39Speaker 1: to contact your strange child.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Somebody's gonna do it. Somebody's gonna buy a name, the
- 33:45Speaker 2: naming of the studio. Anonymous dad trying to contact about
- 33:50Speaker 2: auto home warranties. When we come back, we were talking
- 33:53Speaker 2: about school sucks and I'm bad at it. You are
- 33:56Speaker 2: listening to pod Therapy.
- 33:57Speaker 3: Today's episode is brought to you bys Smitty Scoop, Mason Miller,
- 34:01Speaker 3: Tess Miller, Biler, Team Harris, Team Monaco, Oscar Swan, Rose, Anna,
- 34:05Speaker 3: Marie McCain, Myra and Sam Cone. And if you'd like
- 34:09Speaker 3: to squons the show, become a therapeus er patuon dot
- 34:11Speaker 3: com slash therapy a wreck. All right, Jeopardy style questions today.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Hell yeah, alright, Jeopardy I.
- 34:20Speaker 2: Think, yeah, yeah, you know that's it. They randomized the board,
- 34:23Speaker 2: was like sprinkling outto the board.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Yeah that's right. Potent potables. Yeah, that's a penis mite.
- 34:28Speaker 1: Here the rapists for five hundred.
- 34:31Speaker 4: That's a good one.
- 34:32Speaker 3: We're gonna skip literature. Let's just go to a science.
- 34:36Speaker 3: I'm gonna read it off and then you're gonna buzz in.
- 34:38Speaker 3: Oh okay, this is an eight hundred dollars question. Oh ship,
- 34:41Speaker 3: if you buzz in and get it wrong.
- 34:43Speaker 1: You go negative? All right?
- 34:44Speaker 3: Okay, the principal stating that no two electrons in an
- 34:49Speaker 3: atom can have the same set of quantum numbers.
- 34:53Speaker 1: Uh no two electron. Yeah, it's a prince.
- 35:04Speaker 4: Can you repeat the question? Can you spell elect I.
- 35:09Speaker 3: Feel like this is a bad idea. Let's move on.
- 35:12Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll go up to the one thousand.
- 35:16Speaker 3: This law state, But what was the answer the paly
- 35:19Speaker 3: exclusion principle. Oh, you didn't have a first all right,
- 35:26Speaker 3: this one you may know. This law states that entropy
- 35:30Speaker 3: in an isolated system always increases.
- 35:34Speaker 1: I mean, yes, the law of entropy. No, right now,
- 35:49Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 35:51Speaker 2: And I just leapt into the lead. The fury of
- 35:56Speaker 2: the flame everywhere. All of the further of the questions
- 36:00Speaker 2: upcoming are all worth a dollar apiece. I cannot all right,
- 36:07Speaker 2: all year we can do is negative nine hundred and
- 36:10Speaker 2: ninety seven dollars dead.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Okay.
- 36:13Speaker 3: That was the second law thermodynamics. Let me go to
- 36:16Speaker 3: the elementary version.
- 36:18Speaker 2: Yeah, this ship did Alec Lancaster send these in?
- 36:24Speaker 1: No? I just threw these together real quick. I'm glad
- 36:27Speaker 1: that you thought that we could do this.
- 36:29Speaker 3: Oh ship, But the other ones didn't have answers. But
- 36:31Speaker 3: let's go to the ones that I do know.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Okay, here we go. What is the capital city of France?
- 36:38Speaker 3: Buzz yes, Paris? Two hundred dollars, Good job, Jacob.
- 36:42Speaker 2: Yeah, that's pretty great. I was sitting a text message too.
- 36:48Speaker 1: Jeez, just shooting from the hip. That's pretty good. The
- 36:52Speaker 1: number of players on a field in football buzz yes,
- 36:57Speaker 1: twenty two?
- 36:58Speaker 3: Who uh yes, I'll give you that.
- 37:04Speaker 1: Eleven yeah be eleven per Yeah yeah.
- 37:07Speaker 4: Like what's the double?
- 37:09Speaker 1: So Jacob is that's another two hundred for Jacob.
- 37:12Speaker 2: Christ so ahead of Jim I know?
- 37:17Speaker 5: Second?
- 37:17Speaker 4: Still anything?
- 37:20Speaker 3: The international soccer tournament held every four years, Yes, World Cup?
- 37:24Speaker 3: Good job, six hundred points.
- 37:26Speaker 1: Sorry it's the FIFA World Cup. I really do not
- 37:29Speaker 1: like how this game worked out, Guys, I'm gonna be
- 37:31Speaker 1: honest with you.
- 37:33Speaker 4: Feels like I tell you, Peter and I have tickets
- 37:35Speaker 4: to the World Cup. Yeah, oh yeah, yeah cool.
- 37:40Speaker 1: That's really cool.
- 37:42Speaker 3: All Right, here we go, Uh, last one for this
- 37:45Speaker 3: round for a thousand? Uh for two dollars, let's go
- 37:51Speaker 3: to let's go to one thousand. Let's go to what's
- 37:55Speaker 3: the category movies and pop culture?
- 37:58Speaker 1: All right, I'm fucked.
- 38:00Speaker 3: The fictional language spoken avatar is called this fuck Buzz.
- 38:06Speaker 1: Really, you're about to go negative six hundred now, yeah
- 38:12Speaker 1: he has four.
- 38:12Speaker 4: Hundred he buzz. That means.
- 38:18Speaker 1: The country my noves nuts.
- 38:21Speaker 5: Wow, Jacob, I am pressed ship the wealth of knowledge.
- 38:27Speaker 3: I have to do, I have to do one more.
- 38:30Speaker 2: It was like I did there somewhere to make it
- 38:32Speaker 2: sixt around a little bit?
- 38:34Speaker 1: Yeah, wow, okay, here we go.
- 38:37Speaker 3: Uh bad, twelve hundred points or twelve.
- 38:40Speaker 1: Movie was so much better what it was called Dances
- 38:42Speaker 1: with Wolves.
- 38:43Speaker 3: Yeah, sorry for twelve hundred dollars twelve real money. This
- 38:48Speaker 3: two thousand and six film features a magician rivalry between
- 38:52Speaker 3: characters Buzz Jackman Bale.
- 38:55Speaker 1: The prestige it is. I'm on the board two hundred. Yes,
- 39:01Speaker 1: I got up.
- 39:02Speaker 3: So our final scores we've got Jim two hundred.
- 39:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I came out. That was a twelve hundred.
- 39:09Speaker 3: Whitney at six hundred, Jacob at fourteen hundred.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Who anybody's game? Anybody could could still come back and
- 39:16Speaker 1: win after I was dating loss. That was legit.
- 39:19Speaker 2: Man, I'm not sure it would have taken me longer
- 39:22Speaker 2: to tell you my zip code. Yeah, yeah, that was
- 39:27Speaker 2: that was pretty good, all right.
- 39:29Speaker 1: School sucks and I'm bad at it. Hey, Hi, Hello,
- 39:34Speaker 1: it's me not Kieran Knightly checking in. I don't know guys,
- 39:38Speaker 1: seems little suspicious. It seems might think it's k I'm
- 39:42Speaker 1: struggling with something in my brain and you're a group
- 39:46Speaker 1: of therapists and a former PhD guy yeah, and a
- 39:50Speaker 1: current and current Yeah. School was always a tricky bean
- 39:54Speaker 1: for me during grade school. Report cards didn't show my
- 39:58Speaker 1: struggle because my need to impress slash fear of disappointing
- 40:01Speaker 1: my parents and teachers outweighed my poor work ethic. Though
- 40:05Speaker 1: it was assumed I had anxiety, my mom did catch
- 40:08Speaker 1: a handful of moments when I couldn't handle the pressure
- 40:11Speaker 1: and ended up having big emotional outbursts that were very
- 40:14Speaker 1: inappropriate considering my age. Those happened when I fully missed
- 40:18Speaker 1: a deadline for an opportunity that I could have completed
- 40:21Speaker 1: but didn't because I was lazy, unmotivated, had priorities wrong, etc.
- 40:26Speaker 1: University was seven years of hell. I was either stressing
- 40:29Speaker 1: about the pile of looming deadlines while doing exactly nothing
- 40:32Speaker 1: about it, or pulling all nighters to do assignments. It
- 40:36Speaker 1: was years of panic and stress. Guilt and shame, as
- 40:40Speaker 1: well as I cared deeply about the content of my
- 40:43Speaker 1: classes and really appreciated many of my professors. I graduated
- 40:46Speaker 1: in twenty nineteen and still feel a pit in my
- 40:49Speaker 1: stomach when I think about staring at a blank word
- 40:52Speaker 1: document that needs two thousand words about a book I
- 40:55Speaker 1: didn't read that I have thirteen hours to complete. Anyway,
- 40:59Speaker 1: I learned four years ago that I might have ADHD,
- 41:02Speaker 1: then got a diagnosis two years ago. I'm on vivance now,
- 41:06Speaker 1: and boy, I love that little guy. I wasted years
- 41:09Speaker 1: fighting myself and now a little bill quietly lets me
- 41:12Speaker 1: do things a bit more easily. Nice. I'm still genuinely lazy,
- 41:17Speaker 1: sometimes in struggle to get things done, but now I
- 41:20Speaker 1: can actually do the tasks. It's bizarre and feels fake,
- 41:24Speaker 1: but I don't think it is. One very notable thing
- 41:27Speaker 1: about my ADHD assessment was that my visual focus was abysmal.
- 41:31Speaker 1: The psychiatrist said that if it didn't drastically improve with meds,
- 41:35Speaker 1: i'd have to go to some I specialists to see
- 41:37Speaker 1: what's going on. It was such a relief because I've
- 41:40Speaker 1: always wanted to be a reader, but thought I was
- 41:43Speaker 1: too addicted to screens and fried my brain to read
- 41:46Speaker 1: well and comprehend the text. I'm still learning how to
- 41:48Speaker 1: read books I like and build my stamina. Now I've
- 41:51Speaker 1: applied to go back to school.
- 41:53Speaker 2: For more teacher learning. Part of me wants that future
- 41:56Speaker 2: education and salary bump, but the other part.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Of me he's very scared. I'm actually just bad at school,
- 42:04Speaker 1: and I'm signing myself up for a few more years
- 42:06Speaker 1: of hell. I never learned how to start things before
- 42:10Speaker 1: panic work mode, and I'm so scared that even if
- 42:13Speaker 1: I start assignments sooner, I'll just work in panic mode
- 42:17Speaker 1: because that's just how I've done assignments. What if I
- 42:20Speaker 1: still can't read more challenging pieces. What if school was
- 42:24Speaker 1: just too hard and it will continue to be too hard.
- 42:28Speaker 1: My grade seven through twelve band teacher always used to
- 42:31Speaker 1: tell us feel the fear and do it anyway. Very
- 42:35Speaker 1: creepy writer, and that is what I'll do. But what
- 42:38Speaker 1: the hell can I do to not pre panic too
- 42:41Speaker 1: late and not set myself up for failure. I like
- 42:44Speaker 1: this show, and you four are wonderful. Keep on creeping on,
- 42:49Speaker 1: my friends, not Kieran Nightley. In case anybody was wondering
- 42:55Speaker 1: I'm proud of Kiera Nightly though, for getting back into
- 42:57Speaker 1: school after you know, the Hollywood career.
- 43:00Speaker 3: You know what, this just hit me. Okay, you know
- 43:03Speaker 3: who this is? This is Natalie Portman.
- 43:09Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that is exactly who this is.
- 43:13Speaker 2: That would be a great screen name for Natalie Portman,
- 43:16Speaker 2: not Karen Knightley.
- 43:18Speaker 1: Yeah, that would be so good. Yes, yeah, so school Okay,
- 43:25Speaker 1: So I think, first off, school does suck. I think
- 43:27Speaker 1: we can all did any of you like it was college?
- 43:29Speaker 1: A happy time? College? Like, yeah, I loved it.
- 43:33Speaker 2: I like I like papers and tests and I'm great
- 43:36Speaker 2: at all that. Okay, what's your I'm so good at
- 43:39Speaker 2: papers just bullshit, I can talk, okay, it translates, yeah,
- 43:43Speaker 2: for papers specifically, it translates.
- 43:45Speaker 1: Okay. So writing was never a problem. Writing was always
- 43:48Speaker 1: when you got the big essay assignment, you were like, great,
- 43:50Speaker 1: this will be fun if it's something that I can
- 43:52Speaker 1: just like talk about and like add meat to a
- 43:56Speaker 1: to a bone, okay, and commentary stuff, that's it. Reflection.
- 44:00Speaker 1: I was always good at that. What about like doing
- 44:02Speaker 1: research papers or having to substantial if I was interested
- 44:05Speaker 1: in it? Okay, if I liked it and was interested
- 44:07Speaker 1: in it, I was. I was. I put the time in.
- 44:10Speaker 2: On it, but it could be a really if I
- 44:11Speaker 2: wasn't interested in it, then well in by college though,
- 44:16Speaker 2: I mean by college, I would just do.
- 44:17Speaker 1: It, okay. Never had a problem with that. Yeah, all right,
- 44:20Speaker 1: how about everything before? No, not a chance stangment. You
- 44:22Speaker 1: seem like you're a real good student. Brad apples to
- 44:24Speaker 1: the professor. That kind of thing got there about ten minutes.
- 44:26Speaker 1: Early offered to bang out the chalkboard.
- 44:30Speaker 2: Erasers yeahever else bang out oh yeah, but chock worker chockboard.
- 44:36Speaker 4: But he was going to say, yeah.
- 44:37Speaker 3: Yeah, whatever, yeah, because we still had chalkboards.
- 44:40Speaker 1: When I was in college. I'll bet you did.
- 44:42Speaker 3: We didn't, actually, all right, there may have been or two,
- 44:45Speaker 3: but mostly there we go.
- 44:49Speaker 4: My god.
- 44:51Speaker 1: We did have a script things on things and then
- 44:53Speaker 1: had to erase them, that's true. We did have overhead projectors,
- 44:57Speaker 1: yeah you did, oh with the uh yeah yeah yeah,
- 45:00Speaker 1: with the I loved overhead projectors. Those were great.
- 45:03Speaker 3: Now, I don't know. College for me was kind of fun.
- 45:07Speaker 3: I think like Jacob, it kind of depended on the
- 45:09Speaker 3: class or depending on my level of interest. But there's
- 45:12Speaker 3: also classes I took that I didn't think would be interesting,
- 45:16Speaker 3: but for some reason I did kind of find it
- 45:18Speaker 3: interesting and I was willing to learn about it. The
- 45:21Speaker 3: hardest thing for me, I think, was like reading, because yes,
- 45:26Speaker 3: I'm not a big reader, and I don't know if
- 45:28Speaker 3: I've got ADHD. But like I don't think I have ADHD.
- 45:31Speaker 3: I think I'm just lazy.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Well, you just may be averse to reading, like that's
- 45:35Speaker 1: a total thing. It's a learning stuff, But like I would,
- 45:38Speaker 1: you could also just be lazy. Yeah, it give them
- 45:40Speaker 1: the credit of.
- 45:43Speaker 4: Both.
- 45:43Speaker 1: Yeah, anyway, lobby son of a bitch, you were saying, I.
- 45:46Speaker 3: Would read entire pages and then not know like what
- 45:51Speaker 3: happened of them.
- 45:54Speaker 1: Yeah, but I.
- 45:55Speaker 3: Found Cliff's notes to be very helpful. Yes, so I
- 45:57Speaker 3: use those quite a bit.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Yeah, dude, living in the era that we live in
- 46:03Speaker 1: now is insane. Like I was just talking to my
- 46:06Speaker 1: graduate students about this, and I was showing them how
- 46:08Speaker 1: it's I'm fine with them using AI as long as
- 46:10Speaker 1: they don't cheat on anything. I'm fine with them using
- 46:12Speaker 1: it as an educational tool. You can download the textbook
- 46:16Speaker 1: go into notebook LM. If you've not found this yet,
- 46:19Speaker 1: Google owns something called notebook LM. It's free. You can
- 46:22Speaker 1: give it the textbook and then it becomes an AI
- 46:25Speaker 1: expert only on what you give it. So you give
- 46:27Speaker 1: it the textbook and then you can talk to it
- 46:29Speaker 1: about your textbook and ask it questions. Yeah, like in
- 46:33Speaker 1: chapter five, like what is this concept? Or can you
- 46:35Speaker 1: give me a summary? So it can do anything with that.
- 46:37Speaker 1: One thing it can do is generate an hour long
- 46:40Speaker 1: podcast naturally discussing any chapter in the book between two hosts.
- 46:45Speaker 2: It is the craziest shit I've ever seen in my life.
- 46:48Speaker 3: If it helps you learn, yeah, it's great.
- 46:51Speaker 1: I'm totally for it. I try to show my students
- 46:53Speaker 1: this because I'm like, hey, you can make flash cards,
- 46:55Speaker 1: you can make outlines, you can you can have it quiz,
- 46:57Speaker 1: you could ask questions. It will generate naturally talking like hosts.
- 47:02Speaker 1: It's just like the contents just scatter. It's scattershot.
- 47:04Speaker 2: Like it's like one of these learning techniques might work
- 47:08Speaker 2: for you. Yes, Like I'll tell you exactly why, because
- 47:11Speaker 2: it's funny, the like stupid thing from Avatar on the
- 47:13Speaker 2: on the questions earlier, like I know that, and I
- 47:16Speaker 2: know exactly why.
- 47:17Speaker 1: I know that you didn't know that law of thermodynamics,
- 47:19Speaker 1: You dumb ass.
- 47:20Speaker 2: No, And I'll tell you why I didn't know that
- 47:22Speaker 2: is because the movie I'm hearing it, I'm like, I'm
- 47:25Speaker 2: taking it in in that way.
- 47:27Speaker 1: Yes, I'm an audio person. I'm like that.
- 47:30Speaker 2: I'm a very audio driven person. Like if I hear
- 47:33Speaker 2: some if I if I'm reading something and want to
- 47:36Speaker 2: really make sure that I remember it, because I'll retain
- 47:38Speaker 2: stuff if I read it or whatever. But if I
- 47:41Speaker 2: really want to make sure that I read it or
- 47:42Speaker 2: that I remember it, I'll read it out loud.
- 47:45Speaker 1: Yes, that's where twitter twitter handle means. Yeah, audio guy, Jake, No, No, Jacob,
- 47:52Speaker 1: I'm exactly like you. And I was going to say
- 47:54Speaker 1: that when we're talking about like how did you guys
- 47:55Speaker 1: get through college? For me, I would have textbooks and
- 47:57Speaker 1: I would read them, and my reading comprehension just like
- 48:00Speaker 1: he was extremely bad, and it's the end of the page,
- 48:02Speaker 1: I have no idea what I read. So I went
- 48:04Speaker 1: out and bought a tape recorder and I would record
- 48:06Speaker 1: myself reading the chapter. And that's actually one of the
- 48:10Speaker 1: reasons I'm I'm decent at like picking up a question
- 48:12Speaker 1: from our show and just kind of getting through it
- 48:14Speaker 1: and not be shitty, you know, reading it. I would
- 48:16Speaker 1: have to read the whole thing live and I couldn't
- 48:18Speaker 1: edit it. And then I would stop the tape. I'd
- 48:21Speaker 1: put in headphones and i'd walk campus and I'd listen
- 48:24Speaker 1: to myself reading back the textbook. And that's whenever I
- 48:27Speaker 1: would understand it or I would actually capture the information.
- 48:31Speaker 3: Also, where you developed love of your own voice?
- 48:33Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, you're probably right.
- 48:35Speaker 2: This is all Probably he would do the whole He
- 48:38Speaker 2: would do all of this while just looking at a
- 48:40Speaker 2: photograph of himself.
- 48:41Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, vigorously masturbating in the middle of campus.
- 48:44Speaker 1: But yeah, this is how it happened. You don't. You
- 48:47Speaker 1: don't do that.
- 48:47Speaker 5: I'm so opposite, like auditory learning. No, it's like you're
- 48:51Speaker 5: out there because.
- 48:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I was gonna say, what an interesting profession you're shows.
- 48:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna kill myself. What what? Could you write it down? Yeah,
- 49:02Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I wasn't. Honestly, you write it down? Oh
- 49:06Speaker 1: this is a lovely stick figure. Jump?
- 49:08Speaker 3: Is he flying? Is he flying off a building?
- 49:10Speaker 1: That's cool for me.
- 49:13Speaker 5: That's why I like, I really do like in person
- 49:15Speaker 5: therapy better because I'm engaging with the person and I
- 49:18Speaker 5: will remember. I'm like remembering, I remember what they're wearing
- 49:20Speaker 5: when they said something like I'm so visual. Okay, that's
- 49:24Speaker 5: what gets me. I remember in even elementary middle school
- 49:28Speaker 5: when i'd have tests, I would remember where I read
- 49:30Speaker 5: it in the book and like the paragraph looked like this,
- 49:32Speaker 5: like it was like a snapshot. And so the auditory
- 49:36Speaker 5: learning was not it is not a thing just.
- 49:38Speaker 1: Like a photographic memory.
- 49:40Speaker 4: It is, but not one of those amazing ones.
- 49:41Speaker 1: But yeah, that's how it overstates it.
- 49:44Speaker 4: But yeah, yeah, I'm not like a genius and not.
- 49:46Speaker 1: Like some tooth picks are on the ground.
- 49:48Speaker 2: Yeah, take her to the casino boys, make some money.
- 49:53Speaker 3: You ever see that bobs Burgers one? Because think Tina
- 49:58Speaker 3: is like has that power?
- 50:00Speaker 1: Uh huh?
- 50:00Speaker 3: And so Jeane drops some toothpicks, like how many toothpicks?
- 50:04Speaker 3: And and then and then Bob's like, come on, Geene,
- 50:07Speaker 3: knock it off. And then and then Tina's like one
- 50:11Speaker 3: hundred and eighty three and then Bob's.
- 50:14Speaker 2: Like there's three. There's three. That's great, Oh my god.
- 50:26Speaker 1: But no, I mean one piece of advice, you know,
- 50:28Speaker 1: to the writer, Like so I don't know if I
- 50:30Speaker 1: have ADHD some.
- 50:31Speaker 2: Speculate that I do. But you know, like, all right, Jim,
- 50:34Speaker 2: even I can't pay attention to you. Idh HD is
- 50:38Speaker 2: so bad. I can't pay attention.
- 50:42Speaker 1: It's secondhand. I can't breathe. I'm great on focusing when
- 50:46Speaker 1: Jim is around, I just keep staring out the window.
- 50:49Speaker 1: There's somebody birds. No, But like I always struggled with
- 50:52Speaker 1: school and and like for me, it didn't matter whether
- 50:55Speaker 1: I enjoyed the content or not. A procrastination, Yeah, procrastination wait,
- 50:59Speaker 1: like the writer says, like waiting until the worry hits.
- 51:02Speaker 1: But that's constantly in the state of like suffering everything
- 51:05Speaker 1: you do.
- 51:05Speaker 3: But that I read something about that I'm going to
- 51:08Speaker 3: do with ADHD, Like the waiting for the last minute,
- 51:11Speaker 3: that getting to that point like triggers that part of
- 51:15Speaker 3: the brain is kind of that fight or flight response
- 51:18Speaker 3: where people with ADHD can actually thrive.
- 51:21Speaker 1: I well, I guess I did, you know, because like
- 51:23Speaker 1: I would kick into high gear like the writer, and
- 51:25Speaker 1: I'd get it done. But I appreciate the writer's point
- 51:29Speaker 1: that it's exhausting for sure, because you're waiting and waiting
- 51:32Speaker 1: and then a fucking bear just breaks through the window
- 51:35Speaker 1: and then you go ten rounds of this goddamn bear.
- 51:37Speaker 1: What did you go to liberty? My man, I'm telling
- 51:40Speaker 1: you there was handling and bear fighting.
- 51:43Speaker 2: You're fucking one. Okay, we didn't even learn how to read. Like,
- 51:48Speaker 2: that's probably what I struggled.
- 51:49Speaker 4: With, just staring at the just listen to the.
- 51:55Speaker 1: Yeah, you don't need to read this book, just do
- 51:56Speaker 1: what the man tells you.
- 51:57Speaker 2: Organized religion did go way downhill after reading became more common.
- 52:01Speaker 2: It really fucked a lot of people. A lot of
- 52:03Speaker 2: organized religion really strong right up until reading.
- 52:06Speaker 1: Literacy is not your friend. So yeah, like I get it.
- 52:09Speaker 1: It's exhausting. It may it may work, but I can
- 52:11Speaker 1: appreciate for the right that they're like for them, they
- 52:14Speaker 1: they had just as many misses as hits, and so
- 52:17Speaker 1: it took a long time for them to complete school
- 52:19Speaker 1: and signing up to go around again. It sounds like
- 52:21Speaker 1: there might be pursuing a master's degree or some you know,
- 52:23Speaker 1: certification extra education. One thing, writer, I would, I feel
- 52:27Speaker 1: really confident for you now that you're on the vivance,
- 52:30Speaker 1: Like for a lot of people, that's the difference maker, right,
- 52:34Speaker 1: Like that's kind of the whole fucking point of the
- 52:37Speaker 1: stimulants as a treatment for ADHD, and for those who
- 52:41Speaker 1: don't know, and I think we even recently talked about this,
- 52:43Speaker 1: or maybe I was talking about it one of my classes,
- 52:44Speaker 1: but just as a quick little primer on why amphetamines
- 52:47Speaker 1: and stimulants kind of work for people at HD. The
- 52:50Speaker 1: metaphor that I've heard that makes the most sense is like,
- 52:52Speaker 1: when you have ADHD, it's like a house. Your brain
- 52:55Speaker 1: is like a house, and there's kids in this house,
- 52:57Speaker 1: and the kids are awake, but mom and dad are asleep,
- 53:00Speaker 1: and so the kids are just run around the house.
- 53:01Speaker 1: They're like, we're gonna make breakfast now, and like they're
- 53:03Speaker 1: making breakfast and like, oh, let's go over here, and
- 53:05Speaker 1: then like the breakfast is burning, and like they're walking
- 53:06Speaker 1: over here and playing a video game and like now
- 53:08Speaker 1: they're gonna go over here, Bill of fort. They're just
- 53:10Speaker 1: doing things that kids do. What the amphetamines do, what
- 53:13Speaker 1: the medicine does for somebody who has ADHD is it
- 53:17Speaker 1: awakens their executive functioning, which is basically waking up mom
- 53:21Speaker 1: and dad in the house. And so now that mom
- 53:23Speaker 1: and dad are awake, they take control of the house,
- 53:26Speaker 1: and so you're still you there's still that little kid
- 53:29Speaker 1: in you bouncing around, but there's this ability to focus
- 53:32Speaker 1: and like see what needs to be done. That's what
- 53:33Speaker 1: the executive functioning basically does, and you're able to like
- 53:37Speaker 1: lean in on the tasks until completion. That way, you're
- 53:39Speaker 1: not just like bouncing from the next thing. So in theory, writer,
- 53:43Speaker 1: I'm really optimistic for you to start education again in
- 53:46Speaker 1: the era of having a treatment for this and alongside
- 53:50Speaker 1: so many learning tools now that you could surround yourself
- 53:53Speaker 1: with to make it more interesting. I mean, be able
- 53:55Speaker 1: to make a podcast about any chapter in your textbook,
- 53:58Speaker 1: how that the machine is, kick that out, pop it
- 54:01Speaker 1: in your phone and take a walk and learn the
- 54:03Speaker 1: material you know, or getting on YouTube and watching like
- 54:05Speaker 1: anything re explained away from the textbooks. It just seems
- 54:09Speaker 1: like it's it's better than ever with multimodal education. And
- 54:13Speaker 1: I think for people with like autism, ADHD learning disorders,
- 54:17Speaker 1: this is a really good time for us.
- 54:21Speaker 4: So did they go to the ice specialist.
- 54:24Speaker 1: No, the doctor said they were going to send them there,
- 54:26Speaker 1: but it seems like the medicine calmed them down.
- 54:29Speaker 3: Yeah, listen, Natalie, here's how I would do this. I
- 54:34Speaker 3: would I kind of go into this with this like
- 54:37Speaker 3: you're I think you're going into it with the right attitude,
- 54:40Speaker 3: which is like, don't go into this thinking like, Okay,
- 54:43Speaker 3: it's gonna be so much different this time, and I'm
- 54:44Speaker 3: gonna be amazing.
- 54:46Speaker 1: Like I like going in.
- 54:47Speaker 3: I like seeing you kind of go into this attitude
- 54:49Speaker 3: of like, Okay, this could potentially suck. Good point, Yeah,
- 54:52Speaker 3: but I'm gonna be okay, okayeah, okay, because I've already
- 54:56Speaker 3: done this before, You've already gotten out on once, already
- 54:59Speaker 3: had to do this. I know that as exhausting as
- 55:02Speaker 3: it is, once I get into that fight or flight mode,
- 55:06Speaker 3: I will succeed right and I will come out on top.
- 55:09Speaker 3: Like understanding that it's still going to be terrible, it's
- 55:12Speaker 3: still going to suck, but you're going to be okay.
- 55:14Speaker 3: I think is a healthy mindset.
- 55:15Speaker 5: You have the tool that you said already does help
- 55:18Speaker 5: you get some tasks done, and sometimes you still don't
- 55:21Speaker 5: do the tasks, but it sounds like you're doing more
- 55:23Speaker 5: than you have before thanks to the vibance.
- 55:26Speaker 1: So yeah, you have.
- 55:27Speaker 5: Already shown that there will be some improvement potentially. But
- 55:32Speaker 5: I think, yeah, like Nix, I don't expect it to be. Oh,
- 55:34Speaker 5: I'm a whole new person and I can do everything differently,
- 55:38Speaker 5: but it sounds like there will be some improvements from
- 55:41Speaker 5: what you've already experienced.
- 55:42Speaker 1: And another thing, and the way that Natalie Portman writes
- 55:46Speaker 1: this is Natalie Portman British. Did y'all pick up now?
- 55:49Speaker 4: Somehow she's She's like, ISRAELI is okay?
- 55:52Speaker 1: Yeah, so not America, so essentially British, right, because it's
- 55:55Speaker 1: all the same to me. So my point was going
- 55:58Speaker 1: to be this.
- 55:59Speaker 3: Yeah, how close do you think Israel and ohta shoulder
- 56:03Speaker 3: to shoulder?
- 56:03Speaker 1: Right? I mean, you know they're both peninsulas or something.
- 56:08Speaker 1: I think, yeah, very you got to figure they're all
- 56:13Speaker 1: kind of related. So I don't like to flex with
- 56:16Speaker 1: the geo Knowledgeay, just got to let you guys know
- 56:19Speaker 1: what's you know. My point is this, if you were
- 56:23Speaker 1: in America, the Promised Land where the free are free,
- 56:27Speaker 1: I would tell you that or was home of the
- 56:29Speaker 1: brave land of the free. I believe is that is
- 56:31Speaker 1: that how the song goes. Freedom not guaranteed, Okay.
- 56:34Speaker 2: Freedom currently under discussion, freedom and the works.
- 56:40Speaker 1: So like if you were going to a university here,
- 56:43Speaker 1: I would want you to check in with the the
- 56:46Speaker 1: Department of Student Services and let them know, Hey, I
- 56:49Speaker 1: have a diagnosis of ADHD. I need accommodations and that
- 56:52Speaker 1: is not a very difficult thing to get in America
- 56:55Speaker 1: at least, And like, if you're a person with your
- 56:58Speaker 1: taking vibands for this, I would want you to get
- 57:00Speaker 1: that accommodation because, like, I've got students that need accommodations,
- 57:04Speaker 1: and the department sends me instructions that say, Hey, deadlines
- 57:09Speaker 1: are gonna work differently for this person. They're going to
- 57:11Speaker 1: get extra notification, You're required to follow up with them.
- 57:15Speaker 1: You're gonna take big assignments and you're gonna break it
- 57:17Speaker 1: into smaller pieces for them.
- 57:19Speaker 2: As an instructor, how much of a pain of the
- 57:22Speaker 2: ass is that on your end?
- 57:24Speaker 1: You know, it's more work, but it's the job. And
- 57:27Speaker 1: I think it's one of those things where you look
- 57:29Speaker 1: at it and you go, this is correct. Yeah, And
- 57:31Speaker 1: there's a sense of like nobody's getting one over on me,
- 57:35Speaker 1: like this person needs this, and all it's doing is
- 57:38Speaker 1: equalizing the field, right, Like, at the end of the day,
- 57:40Speaker 1: I want equal access to information for me, but I
- 57:43Speaker 1: really feel for students. I think because I don't think
- 57:46Speaker 1: I'm ADHD, but if I am, I feel for students,
- 57:49Speaker 1: you are that way because I sucked at school and
- 57:53Speaker 1: so like it was really really hard for me. So
- 57:55Speaker 1: like for me, I videotape my lectures, I create like
- 57:59Speaker 1: PowerPoint p to go with everything. Ever since I figured
- 58:02Speaker 1: out I can make podcasts about the chapters, I do it.
- 58:06Speaker 1: So like I generate podcasts for all the chapters of
- 58:08Speaker 1: the book, and then I give it away to the students.
- 58:10Speaker 1: Like here, here's like ten different ways to absorb this information,
- 58:13Speaker 1: and you can listen to me in person. But like
- 58:16Speaker 1: if you don't want, if that doesn't stick to you
- 58:18Speaker 1: or whatever, here's a video of me talking. Here's a
- 58:20Speaker 1: podcast version of me talking. Here's a podcast of like
- 58:23Speaker 1: two robots discussing it. Here's an outline of the book. Like,
- 58:26Speaker 1: I don't know, I just I feel like that's right,
- 58:28Speaker 1: and the goal is for students to learn, right, So
- 58:31Speaker 1: I think if you're entering university, missus Portman, then that's
- 58:35Speaker 1: what I would encourage you to do, because you can
- 58:37Speaker 1: get those accommodations and you can succeed. So don't let yourself,
- 58:41Speaker 1: you know, talk yourself out of it.
- 58:43Speaker 3: Also, Natalie, it'd be really interesting to figure out, like
- 58:46Speaker 3: how long you can do a task school related and
- 58:53Speaker 3: then take a break, cause I think it might be
- 58:56Speaker 3: helpful to instead of thinking about it as like, oh,
- 58:58Speaker 3: I need to get started on this right now and
- 59:00Speaker 3: then I got to finish it, to kind of have
- 59:03Speaker 3: a mindset of I'm going to start early and take
- 59:05Speaker 3: mini breaks.
- 59:07Speaker 1: You know, mini is in.
- 59:08Speaker 3: Multiple not little, okay, but like taking multiple breaks. So
- 59:12Speaker 3: taking a task and knowing like I'm going to do
- 59:15Speaker 3: this for ten minutes, I'm gonna work on this for
- 59:17Speaker 3: ten minutes. I'm gonna take a quick ten minute break.
- 59:19Speaker 3: I'm gonna use my stop watch on my phone. I'm
- 59:22Speaker 3: gonna time this out so that I can still stay fresh,
- 59:25Speaker 3: because I think one of the things that becomes a
- 59:27Speaker 3: challenge is when you get too far into it. You know,
- 59:30Speaker 3: everybody kind of has that moment where it's like, Okay,
- 59:32Speaker 3: my brain's kind of done, I need to do something
- 59:34Speaker 3: different right now. For some people, that could be three
- 59:38Speaker 3: hours into a project, right for other people it could
- 59:41Speaker 3: be fifteen minutes. So it might be a good idea
- 59:43Speaker 3: to kind of figure out what is your time frame
- 59:45Speaker 3: of when you feel like you can be successful and
- 59:47Speaker 3: I can stay focused for this long. And if I
- 59:50Speaker 3: know I can only stay focused for fifteen minutes, then
- 59:53Speaker 3: I'm going to plan on fifteen minutes and I'm gonna
- 59:55Speaker 3: take a little break. I like that, and then I'm
- 59:56Speaker 3: gonna come back break it up into chunks int of
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: instead of trying to get everything done at one time,
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: break it up into manageable sizes.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: How did you study Whitney?
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: Now that we know that you're a certified nerd, certified nerd.
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: You're you have fucking photographic memory.
- 1:00:12Speaker 5: That's so basically one of my uh psychology professor who
- 1:00:18Speaker 5: was like the head of the department, he told us
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: on day one of like gen site, he said, read
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: the text three times, So like your homework is is
- 1:00:26Speaker 5: chapter one? Read it three times? You say that, but
- 1:00:28Speaker 5: for me, it's perfect because I'm looking at it three
- 1:00:31Speaker 5: times and it's going to get burned in my brain
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: by the third time.
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: So that actually just just beat.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: Your brain into submission. That's what you do. You read
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: until it the last bubble comes up, and then you're like,
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: and now I know this.
- 1:00:42Speaker 5: Yeah, I like anything color coded that is bold for
- 1:00:46Speaker 5: me because anything what are those like acronyms or whatever,
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: the things where.
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: You oh mnemonic device.
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: Yeah, yes, those those I love.
- 1:00:54Speaker 5: I was sharing some of those with my niece and nephews,
- 1:00:56Speaker 5: and Peter's like, I've never heard of these.
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: I'm like you, I like that in school, like the
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: pm dos or whatever, like yeah, I don't know.
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: And that plan away school, yeah, away opposite school, away school.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: Yes, it's called the Devil's Cottage.
- 1:01:14Speaker 5: If there's a song that, like, you know I changed
- 1:01:17Speaker 5: the words to, that'll stick in my brain for forever,
- 1:01:19Speaker 5: because songs stick commit like I use all that.
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: Shows, Okay, color coding weren't for me, like I did this.
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: I think I talked about this once before. But I
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: was in a history class, a US history class, and
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: I would take notes in class, and then I had
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: an hour between that class and the next one, so
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: I go to the student union and I would rewrite
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: my notes, and then I would color code stuff. So
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: I would put stuff in a red pen or in
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: blue ink if it's about this, and then just then
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: it just it's stuck.
- 1:01:46Speaker 5: Right, You know what I feel like when you share
- 1:01:48Speaker 5: that Right now, children were young, very young adults listening
- 1:01:52Speaker 5: to this is probably are probably thinking like that is
- 1:01:55Speaker 5: so ancient, and this thought just popped in my head.
- 1:01:58Speaker 5: My dad was an accountant and he was like a CPA.
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: He was I remember having to do taxes like buy
- 1:02:04Speaker 5: hands and like calculate things by the little punching numbers
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: thing like did he.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: Have a green visor? Yeah?
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: Oh yeah, oh yeah.
- 1:02:15Speaker 5: But I'm like you look back at that and you're like,
- 1:02:18Speaker 5: oh my god, that would have taken forever and like
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: what you were just handwriting out, you know, numbers to
- 1:02:24Speaker 5: account things. I feel like that's us. Now you're like,
- 1:02:27Speaker 5: I rewrote my nose. Now they're just like create notes,
- 1:02:30Speaker 5: repeat it triggering.
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: I spent like four hours today doing my taxes.
- 1:02:37Speaker 4: And sent them to my dad.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: I got beef with Turbo tax.
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: Oh no, they do stupid ship and they make stuff
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: so hard to find and then they're like, oh, you know,
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: it's like, oh, let's just verify this. I we just
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: have a couple of questions for you. And then the
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: questions they ask are so like, okay, you know, I
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: don't know what the funk that means?
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: Right, taxes? Like next doing his own tax do y'all do?
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: Like, oh god, no, I got to thank you.
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: I pay someone.
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: Going to pay some He's that he is definitely going
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: to go down with the ship. My wife, My wife's
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: taxes are are impossible.
- 1:03:13Speaker 4: Yes, that's Peter.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: Yeah, Peter's taxes.
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: Yet it's not happening.
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: My taxes are easy. Okay, Well, well all my money
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: comes to your only fans.
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: It's the other business.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: Yeah, that's as tradable. You're doing only fans off the books.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: I'm also going to take over trivia because Nick Trivia sucks.
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: But before we get to that, we're gonna take quick break.
- 1:03:38Speaker 4: I need an accommodation for trivia.
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: Yeah, we're going with NIX Trivia. Nick Trivia is great.
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: Inx Trivia is terrible. You're listening to pod Therapy.
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: Today's episode is brought to you by Smitty Scoop, Mason Miller,
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: Tess Miller, Biler, t Paris, Team Monaco, oscarsnros Anna, Marie,
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: Emma Cain, Myra, and Sam Cone. If you like sponsor
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: of the show, come with therap producer pitchon dot com
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: and now let's see what Disney trivia you've got story.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: So our intern Emma to the rescue. Before we started recording,
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: she sent us March Madness Trivia because March madness is
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: in full swing. But no, no, nah, and the four of
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: us as we sit here today, we are recording what
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: date is that It is March twenty second. I'm pulling
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: up our standings in our pool, and you should all
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: know Whitney is in third place overall. All right, she
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: is smoking us, So she is very very safe, still
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: has a very high seating. You don't have to win,
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: You just have to not lose. Just all you gotta
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: do is not lose. Now, she did get her legs cut.
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: Out, so the first round was awesome.
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: Right, So she's currently sitting with a possible max of
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: two hundred and thirty points. Next in the room is Nick.
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: Nick is in twelfth place. His possible max is to
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: twenty two. So as of right now, Whitney's got him
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: by the chuck. But we'll see what happens. Just below,
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: mister Tangman in thirteenth place, a certain Jacob Smoth. Look
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: at me, you're the very.
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: High ceiling of two forty remember, very possible. Oh I've
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: got a higher ceiling you do, oh, okay.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: And then it's up the rear. In sixteenth place is
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: a certain former doctor Jobin who has got a ceiling
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: of two thirty two? Does that mean not out?
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: But who is most likely of the four of us
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: at bind because last time I looked, I thought I
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: was the most likely to be buying dinner.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: No, you were, Yeah, you were dead last for the
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: longest Okay, right now, I like your odds. I think
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: you clear a mile, probably Jim or I think it's
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: a shootout between.
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: Nick And here's the thing, though, we have the exact
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: same Final four and Final two and winter, So it's
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: gonna come down to like today, it's gonna come down
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: to like confidence point or like you picked the final
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: score that's the final tiebreaker for the finals.
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: If it all comes down to everything, you have the
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: tiebreaker score that you picked.
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: So every year we play March Madness. If you win
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: our pool, we will always check in and get you
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: some free merch and then between the four hosts, it's
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: not about winning, it's just about not losing. Rightser buys
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: sushi for the winners. As the three of them enjoy
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: it obnoxiously, we will find you. I was thinking we
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: should change up where we go for sushi this year.
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: I think, especially now that I don't paying for it,
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: I think we should go to Mayfair.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: I think Mayfair it's much more expensive. Yeah, the fifty
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: dollars a role play, yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm a soft yes, okay,
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: really just depends on what's going on with Nick and I.
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: But if you remember that fifty dollars roll was three bytes. Yeah,
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: perfect fightes, okay, three most perfect bites you had. I
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: think I would rather have a twelve dollars roll in
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: eight Okay, bytes, I think I could. I think I'll
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: be better.
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: You've never had these perfect you want?
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: You want that, I'll bet you. I can't know the difference.
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: Do we all think I have the palette that I
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: could tell the difference.
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: You could tell the difference. It's so good. It's yeah,
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: it's so good. It's it's different.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: You can well. In turn, Emma sent us some March
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: Madness trivia. I can see the answers. So I'm gonna
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: stay out of it, and we're gonna let you guys start.
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: I'm wiping the board. It's zero's across that. I don't
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: think you have that authority.
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: I just say you know what, this this is how
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: sat works.
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: Actually we'll blame it. We'll just say that you won
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: the last there you go. Yeah, one in the books
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: and this one. Okay, we'll give you this one too,
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: new game.
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: All right, here we go. I'm gonna start with tangement
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: losing this game. You can shoot from the hip, or
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: you can get your options. What year was the first
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: NC double a men's basketball tournament held? You want some options? Yeah,
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: here we go. You can take you what an amazing shot?
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: Nineteen thirty five, nineteen thirty nine, nineteen forty two or
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: nineteen forty might be way off as it is in fact,
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: nineteen thirty nine.
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: Wow, co Yeah, I was he was there? No, Nick,
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: Nick fucking knew. Yeah, yeah, that is. I'm ready.
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: Second, we're going to Jacob, Come on, Jacob. George Mikeen,
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: voted the greatest Michael basketball player of the first half
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: twentieth century by the Associated Press, is credited with inspiring
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: two major rule changes. Sure, the goaltending rule in college
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: and what change in the NBA? Oh, I want the options? Okay?
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: The introduction of the shot clock. No, the widening of
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: the lane from six to twelve feet. That's the one,
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: the three point line or the defensive three second violation?
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: I answered, Oh, you're you're taking You're taking B. Yeah,
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: it is true. You know, as soon as you said,
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: I knew it points for you. I just had to
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: hear it. Emma says it is B. They literally doubled
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: the size of the paint to try to keep him
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: away from the basket. In fact, George Miken is the
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: great uncle by marriage of our intern.
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I knew the last name.
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: All right, We're going to Whitney.
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: Whitney, which school holds the all time record for the
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: most NC Double A men's basketball tournament championships.
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: I have a guest, but I want to hear. Options.
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: Options are Kentucky, Duke, Carolina or U c l A.
- 1:09:36Speaker 5: Well, my guess is Duke, and I don't really know,
- 1:09:38Speaker 5: so I.
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: Guess it's any amount of money. Okay, all right, doubling
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: down for Duke definitely, Nick, you want to throw down,
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: we're going on. The answer is U c l A.
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: I think I feel Jacob and I had the same.
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: Yeah, the odds, all right, you thought it was just
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: going to be bees all around.
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: It always always be Answers are always It's.
- 1:10:12Speaker 4: Never the first one any.
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: Or the third one or the first it's always B.
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: It's either B or it's the longest answer. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: was a little predictable. All right, Nick, back to you.
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: What is the popular name for the first Thursday and
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: Friday of the n C Double A tournament when tons
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: of games overlap and nobody gets any work done? Is
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: it called bracket bonanza, Selection Saturday, the Big Dance? Or
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: the first four? Oh?
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: Hold on, did he read them out of order?
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: What is the popular name for the first Thursday and
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: Friday of the n C Double A tournament when tons
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: of games overlap and nobody gets any work done? Is
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: it called bracket bonanza, Selection Saturday, the Big Dance or
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: the first four? Okay, it's not b or d Okay,
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: so we're kicking out Selection Saturday and the first four
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: that leaves today. Okay, Bracket Bananza or the Big Dance.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: I'm gonna say I have not.
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: Heard either of these, but I'll go with uh. I'll
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: go with a bracket bananza. Oh I thought big dance.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: Both of you were wrong? No, what is it? Whitney
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: for the steal?
- 1:11:30Speaker 4: What were the other options?
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: Great job, So the big I'm not going to hear
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: the bracket Banana is gone and Big Dance is gone.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: You've got Selection Saturday, or the first four, the first four.
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: It is the first, it's not. That's not scription with
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: Emma and Emma's god. Yes, the play in games, the
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: playing games, well, fuck you both. I believe women, So
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: I'm on you mon this game, Jacob. In twenty eighteen,
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: which sixteen seed made history.
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: Look at me, he's watching you.
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: In twenty eight which sixteen seed made history by becoming
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: the first to defeat a one seed tournament. Man, I
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: remember this. I do remember this happening. I don't remember
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: what it was. Some options we got Umbc, Norfolk, Farley
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: Dickinson or Florida Golf Coast ship.
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: I think it's Florida Gulf Coast. It is not, is
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: it all right? I guess I shouldn't guess again.
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: Yeah? Why not? Go ahead? Which was it? Norfolk? No?
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: He doesn't get to get all right.
- 1:12:39Speaker 3: Now, she got to steal, are you right?
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: I'm steal nick, okay, I will steal for it.
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: It's Farley Dickenson.
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: It's not Whitney, Umbc, Norfolk.
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: Norwal the Norfolk.
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: How would you guys say this word? It's definitely Norfolk, right,
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: it's n O R F O l K No. You
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: got it. Yeah, perfectly. There's no way. That's not the
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: right way. I'm agreeing with you, Jim. That's how you
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: say it the correct answers U M B C. See
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: Jim gets infinity points. I like I do. Remember this
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: is pretty cool, Whitney. This is actually your question. Who
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: holds the record for the most career n C Double
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: A tournament coaching victories? To give the options? Is it
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: John Wooden, Dean Smith, Roy Williams or Mike Krazy Whisky?
- 1:13:31Speaker 5: Probably not that guy.
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: You know that he's not saying it. That's coach k
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: That's that's the longtime head coach of Duke Coach Duke.
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: Chrizy. You want Krizzy. That is right. You are in
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: a commanding lead. I didn't keep track of points, but
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: you have more.
- 1:13:55Speaker 4: Of them, so I got to I think, like I think.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: I have like fourteen hundred right, Oh yeah, that's right.
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: How I used pod therapy tools to mediate team conflict.
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: Dear pod Therapy crew and the wonderful ICs folks. I'm
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: writing in to share a situation I ran into yesterday
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: that made me realize just how much I've absorbed from
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: listening to your show. I was working as part of
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: a media team for an event, and one of our
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: members arrived feeling very frustrated. He felt he wasn't being
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: fully included in the planning process and wasn't receiving enough
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: credit for his contributions. He is an incredibly star.
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: I know what this advice is. Okay, he's a writer,
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: said talk to a therapist.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: Oh that's it, that's all you gotta do. Yeah. Then
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: we're getting credit for that.
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah done, and we will take it. We
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: will take all the credit spots of the show. He
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: is an incredibly skilled photographer, who produ who produces amazing work,
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: but he tends to be more professionally distant while working
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: than the rest of the team, which I think contributed
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: to the friction. In the past, my people pleaser nature
- 1:14:59Speaker 3: intendency to be conflict avoidant would have caused me to
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: just shut down and ignore the tension. However, I found
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: myself using the same language and techniques you use when
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: answering questions. Instead of dismissing his concerns, I really listened
- 1:15:13Speaker 3: and use specific validation tools to make sure he felt hurt. Later,
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: I spoke privately with our project lead and suggested he
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: take a moment to have a one on one with
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: this team member to specifically thank him and acknowledge his work.
- 1:15:26Speaker 3: That small step seemed to completely shift his outlook for
- 1:15:29Speaker 3: the better. I honestly felt a little proud of myself
- 1:15:32Speaker 3: for taking active steps to help instead of just staying quiet.
- 1:15:36Speaker 3: So I have two things for the pod. Thank you
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: to the whole crew for equipping me with the tools
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: to handle this. Even the improv skills.
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: From the ICs folks helped me to stay present in
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: a tense moment. Very cool. Yes, and there you go.
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: And two, the question have each of you ever had
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: to play mediator between co workers when you find yourself
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: in that position? What is the best technique for diffusing
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: a hostile situation?
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: See scoop me.
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: I thought that the I thought the question was gonna
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: be what did you do in that situation? Not what
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: was the best method? These are two different aren't the
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: same thing at all?
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: So you you've had some conflict show up in the
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: in the show biz, Oh of course.
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: My go to though is always if I'm if I'm
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: the boss, if I have anything to do with with
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: dealing with that, if I have to deal with that
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: at all, my go to is always your fucking grown ups.
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: Fix this. I got the fire extinguisher.
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: I'm very much like I will spray you to motherfuckers
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: down with the hose. If I have to settle this,
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: it's going to be terrible. The worst thing says you
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: annoy me, I like, I'll just tell them like I will.
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: I don't threaten to fire people, Okay. I tell the
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: very directly that if this keeps up that I will
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: fire them. It's not it's not like I'm so frustrated
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: with this situation I'm going to fire you. It's like, no, no,
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: none of us are upset. We're all like toned down.
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: We're sitting in a.
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: Meeting and it's just like, no, if you keep doing this.
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: I have to fire you. I'm not dealing with this.
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: There's no there's no reason for this to be dealt with.
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: I'm very much just like you are adults. If you
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: can't settle this on your own, then get the fuck
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: out then quick. Okay, all right, So the tough love
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: approach is uh, yeah, that's that's always where I go
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: with Jacob. Yeah, I don't sorry, I don't even know
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: if it's that tough.
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just very direct.
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: It's just direct it's fixed. Here is the problem, and
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: I expected, I expect it to be fixed. I expect
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: this problem to not exist anymore. If you need something
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: from me, let me know. But I mainly expect this
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: problem to just go away.
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: Where you've just been life coach to America, walk up
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: to anybody who's in conflict with anybody else and threaten
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: to fire both up. That's right. I'm not going to
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: put up with it a moment.
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: I love threatening to fire people that I don't have
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: the ability to fight.
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: That is always good.
- 1:18:07Speaker 4: It's a flex it is if it's someone you can't fire.
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: But yeah, I only say that if I have the
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: authority to. I think that the move in any situation,
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: including situations in which you are a customer and you
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: are upset, is to say I expect your resignation by
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: the end of the evening. You just just stare at
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: them like, oh okay, like I don't I don't know
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: if can you do that? Like I expect it well.
- 1:18:31Speaker 4: As someone who is on the board of.
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: An h way, oh oh yeah, some experience, you have
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: broken up some tea in your time, So what do
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: you do?
- 1:18:42Speaker 4: They need to put cameras in these offices. It would
- 1:18:45Speaker 4: be vision.
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: What do you mean they you're on the board?
- 1:18:49Speaker 5: Raise, yeah, can sneak I need those meta glasses, is
- 1:18:53Speaker 5: what I told me.
- 1:18:54Speaker 4: And I was like, you know what I do. They
- 1:18:56Speaker 4: don't know what those do.
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: You don't have an Amazon account. I saw a pair
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: in the wild the other day when I was dressed
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: as a leprecha on A dude walked up and said
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: can I take a picture? And I said okay, and
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: he stared at me and then he walked away and
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: I was like what And he was like, oh, I
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: have the glasses And I was like, oh my god. Yeah,
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: this is and on the on the strip, on the strip.
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: That feels right. Yeah. So okay, tell us some stories
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: of where you've seen people get into it, and how
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: do you get involved? Do you get involved? So are
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: you the president?
- 1:19:23Speaker 5: Oh?
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: If I don't have to get involved, By the way,
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: I don't get involved ever. First choices, don't even buy
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: watch them punch it out, that's in popcorn.
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: If it is not my job to get involved, or
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: if it's not like really affecting me, I don't fucking
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: touch it.
- 1:19:36Speaker 4: Okay, Yeah, I mean I'll let it go for a minute.
- 1:19:39Speaker 5: Because there are some strong personalities and one in particular,
- 1:19:43Speaker 5: they will kind of get very their voice gets loud, heated,
- 1:19:47Speaker 5: pointing yeah direct you know, at someone else, and they'll
- 1:19:51Speaker 5: raise their voice. They're like starting to try and yell
- 1:19:53Speaker 5: over each other. I just don't like being in that.
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: And you know, if I can't avoid it, because now
- 1:19:58Speaker 5: I'm on this damn board, yeah, I I can't avoid it.
- 1:20:00Speaker 5: Then when there is like a gap, if they're not
- 1:20:03Speaker 5: just directly talking over each other, I was like, wait, wait, wait,
- 1:20:06Speaker 5: they aren't finished, and I just like interject. But usually
- 1:20:09Speaker 5: they respond, which I don't always know if they will,
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: but most times, I mean I think every time I've
- 1:20:14Speaker 5: tried it, which hasn't been a whole lot, because.
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: Usually they've done what they were told.
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: Yeah, one will stop.
- 1:20:18Speaker 5: I'm like wait, wait, wait, they weren't done talking, and
- 1:20:20Speaker 5: then they shut up and the next person like finishes.
- 1:20:23Speaker 4: They might re escalate a little bit, but it marks
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: the mine.
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: You referee a little bit.
- 1:20:27Speaker 4: Yeah, but you speak directly.
- 1:20:29Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not yelling at you, like I don't know,
- 1:20:31Speaker 5: hold on, let me hear what they have say not.
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: But like oftentimes, if you if you point out poor
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: behavior to adults, they will rectify that behavior if for
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: no other reason out of shame.
- 1:20:41Speaker 4: Awareness and shame has come to the And.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: It also helps when you scream shame, shame, shame, Just
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: shake your fist next most of that, yeah, yeah.
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: Or like Whitney at the meetings and have a gavel.
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: Oh no, one gave her a gavel. She brought it
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: from home.
- 1:20:56Speaker 4: Did I didn't tell you all this before I was
- 1:20:58Speaker 4: on the board.
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: Whitney looks so happy right now.
- 1:21:01Speaker 5: Before I was on the board, one of the guys
- 1:21:03Speaker 5: I was picturing in this like yelling match, who's still
- 1:21:05Speaker 5: on the board. He used to be president and he
- 1:21:07Speaker 5: brought a gavel he brought He's like an eighty year
- 1:21:10Speaker 5: old man. He brought a gavel to those meetings.
- 1:21:16Speaker 4: Personally.
- 1:21:16Speaker 5: But the girl who like brought me on with her,
- 1:21:19Speaker 5: she's like, you have to get on this board because
- 1:21:20Speaker 5: we can all let him stay president.
- 1:21:21Speaker 4: You just have to be with me on.
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: I don't think you bring the gavel. I think it's
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: a sword. I think you gotta have just that broad
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: sword and you just like pounded onto the need.
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: The video just played Justice Wyatt ir style six shooter
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: strapped on the hip.
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: The peacemaker. You know, you're not pointing to anyone, threaten
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: anyone with it. There just there my coat. That's right,
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: that's just a coat. You brush back the coat as
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: arguments happen. You don't grab it, but you brushed back
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: the coat, exposing the handle. And then you just sit
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: there twitching with your fists. There slowly, there is the
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: same thing. I'm here. Hook there is, and that's just
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: my game.
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: You tell him I'm coming and coming with me, and
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: that is how we're gonna get those mailboxes should be
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: different shades of time.
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: Just quoting like the most balls out like lines, oh
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: fuck y, motherfucker.
- 1:22:21Speaker 5: No, the most intense moment. Recently, though, we we have
- 1:22:24Speaker 5: a new president the last couple months, and he I
- 1:22:27Speaker 5: like him. He's level headed. He kind of got thrown
- 1:22:30Speaker 5: into it. He's like in his sixties. He's an ex cop,
- 1:22:33Speaker 5: but I think he was like ahead of a department,
- 1:22:36Speaker 5: like he wasn't just.
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: He's like experienced.
- 1:22:38Speaker 5: Yes, he's dealt with people, you can tell like, I
- 1:22:41Speaker 5: don't even want to know all the people he's dealt with.
- 1:22:44Speaker 5: But man, this the same older gentleman was kind of
- 1:22:48Speaker 5: basically being really cagey about this bank account. He only
- 1:22:51Speaker 5: has access to whatever we see the statements, so you know,
- 1:22:55Speaker 5: nothing fishy is going on. But he was like really
- 1:22:57Speaker 5: not relinquishing power. I think that's what was a power
- 1:23:00Speaker 5: and balance.
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: But like you said, you're no daisy. You're no daisy
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: at all, y'all.
- 1:23:05Speaker 5: I have never all the homeowners had left by this point.
- 1:23:08Speaker 5: He just had our executive.
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: Meeting and you said, say when, and.
- 1:23:13Speaker 4: I cannot disc I think you may be the answer.
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: Christ if you're wondering, if I've looked up a list
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: of tombstone quotes I have.
- 1:23:20Speaker 4: This takes more sense.
- 1:23:21Speaker 5: Now, Okay, this checks out. He starts he starts walking brave,
- 1:23:32Speaker 5: he starts off.
- 1:23:33Speaker 4: Calm, but he's like, so and so you need.
- 1:23:36Speaker 5: To give the log in to our treasure. He's not
- 1:23:40Speaker 5: to our treasure. You need to give that to her
- 1:23:42Speaker 5: by tomorrow morning. And he's like, well, well, I don't know.
- 1:23:45Speaker 5: He's just trying to like beat around the bush and
- 1:23:47Speaker 5: this the President just kind of like stands up and
- 1:23:51Speaker 5: he starts laying into this guy.
- 1:23:54Speaker 4: It was so it was direct. He wasn't even yelling.
- 1:23:57Speaker 5: It was just this intensity that was Yeah, I've never
- 1:24:01Speaker 5: felt that from another human it remind me of like
- 1:24:03Speaker 5: you were being interrogated probably or something like.
- 1:24:05Speaker 4: I don't know, I've never been in that situation.
- 1:24:07Speaker 5: But he was just like, there is no reason you
- 1:24:10Speaker 5: cannot get those those logins to her by tomorrow morning.
- 1:24:13Speaker 4: If you do not, I will.
- 1:24:14Speaker 5: Call the FDA blah blah blah, and he goes, I
- 1:24:17Speaker 5: will make sure you are held personally.
- 1:24:19Speaker 4: I don't know I'm saying that, but you know, business, yeah,
- 1:24:26Speaker 4: KFC senator a legit. But I don't remember what the
- 1:24:30Speaker 4: thing was. I was like, you know, I don't He's like,
- 1:24:33Speaker 4: I will call him, I will report you. You will
- 1:24:35Speaker 4: be held liable.
- 1:24:36Speaker 5: He goes, we are held liable for these funds and
- 1:24:38Speaker 5: we will not be held accountable. And he was just
- 1:24:40Speaker 5: like staring into his soul and I was like, I
- 1:24:43Speaker 5: don't even.
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: Like there is a certain power that comes along with
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: like an understanding of what's actually happening and explaining that
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: that reality the knowledge high ground, but.
- 1:24:54Speaker 3: Also being able to do so in the calmest way.
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: Pop.
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: Yes, that's like the only the only that that guy
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: made that I don't like that I wouldn't have done
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: as he stood up.
- 1:25:03Speaker 4: You don't even maybe he didn't stand. I don't know it.
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: Was I lower my chair when I went intimidate. I
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: just slowly. I don't get out.
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: Of my chair and then sit down criss cross apples
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: on the floor.
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: I just slowly and pull that little button and just deflate.
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: And you want to make sure you raise your voice
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: really raise.
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: About enough of this ship.
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: Again to this other person.
- 1:25:32Speaker 6: Oh cool, you up a little too high there, but
- 1:25:43Speaker 6: it but it is very intimidating.
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: And that writer is how you de escalate conflicts. Yes, wow,
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: you got them all.
- 1:25:54Speaker 5: Way to use the tools you learn in here that
- 1:25:55Speaker 5: weren't go to therapy.
- 1:25:58Speaker 3: No.
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: But you know, this is something that I think comes
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: a lot in rehabs. We've seen it a lot because
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: there's a lot of call. They get into conflict all
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: the time, you know, in group I mean they'll they'll
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: get in literal fist fights in programs like this between
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: the staff and the patients, and the patients and the patients,
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: sometimes between staff and staff, and so like having to
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: sit down and mitigate conflict between multiple people. It happens
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: a lot. And I think part of it kind of
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: goes back to what Whitney was saying, where it's like
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: sometimes you're just taking the posture of like facilitating a
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: conversation where you're making sure people's thoughts don't get cut
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: off because that always escalates. You're letting people get it
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: all out. And then I think for me, at least,
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: I'll constantly jump in and be kind of the tip
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: of that triangle there where you're reframing and summarizing. Yeah,
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: I'll give them just the tip where I come in
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: and I'll say, Hey, Jim, is just I think what
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: I'm hearing Whitney say, is this this and this Whitney
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: all tip, no dip. So I'll be like, oh, Whitney,
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: is this what I'm hearing you saying? Like, yes, that's
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: what I'm saying. And then I'll pivot over to the
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: other person and be like, Okay, Nick, why don't you
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: give us a reflection on what you're hearing Whitney say?
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: What is your side of this? So like, if you
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: can take the ball and just kind of like summarize
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: and reflect each person's position, you can at least make
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: sure people feel heard and that nobody's allowed to mischaracterize
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: the other and like you're validating while looking for those
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: common ground opportunities. Because then when Nick retorts and says, well, actually,
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: I don't disagree with that, but here's what I'm trying
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: to say. You can reinterpret it as the third wheel
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: there and be like, okay, so you two are actually
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: not as far as apart from this issue as we
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: initially thought. Let me see if we can throw some
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: ideas on the table and like you'll, you'll sit there
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: and try to manage them back into each other. That's
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: how deal with I think, in my opinion, like an
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: active conflict between two people. If you can't fire them both,
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: if you have to intervene it all next time. If
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: Nick slowly seduces them, he pulls out his big right
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: cherry lipstick from his purse and he just opens it up.
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: It does a little twisty thing, and while you're talking,
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: he just sits there and like purses the lips and
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: just round and round until you see.
- 1:27:59Speaker 4: Time turned on right now?
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: I know, no, I thought I thought Nick could do that.
- 1:28:03Speaker 2: Nick, can you not still do the thing where you
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: put the lips down in your cleavage look.
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: Down at it together? Yeah, get in there, ye, get
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: in there. Yeah, I get that. And he's got to
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: get party trait. He still got it. Uh, ties the
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: cherry stem while you're talking, but not.
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: In his mouth, his mouth, his hand, just looking at
- 1:28:20Speaker 2: you very seductively. Well to tie a cherry stem with
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: his fingers.
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: He puts on his glasses first.
- 1:28:29Speaker 2: Oh, would you like me to tie this cherry stem
- 1:28:31Speaker 2: for you? Watch me while I tie this cherry nick
- 1:28:34Speaker 2: tied up into a bow.
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: He doesn't.
- 1:28:37Speaker 3: Here you are with a tied cherry stem, and what's
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: this behind your ear?
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: A dime? Known? Need to fight now? Boys?
- 1:28:45Speaker 3: No, my feedback would be to know your audience first
- 1:28:48Speaker 3: of and foremost, because everybody's gonna like you can't have
- 1:28:52Speaker 3: just one way of dealing with conflict and it's gonna
- 1:28:54Speaker 3: work with everybody. So that's one thing I learned in
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: the programs that I that I supervised. The other thing, though, too,
- 1:29:02Speaker 3: is like I learned this with working with kids in
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: a rehab is first off, removing them from the environment.
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: So separate them. Yeah, if if if you're if they're
- 1:29:15Speaker 3: if they've been going at it for a while and
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: they're just yelling at each other, they're not, You're not
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: going to be able to sit and be like, okay,
- 1:29:20Speaker 3: So what I'm hearing you say is this, and what
- 1:29:23Speaker 3: I'm hearing you say because they're not they're going to
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: be talking over each other, so kind of separate them first.
- 1:29:28Speaker 3: And then the other thing is I always offer them food.
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: Or a beverage, okay, just to kind of interfere.
- 1:29:35Speaker 3: Because what No, it's Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Oh, if
- 1:29:38Speaker 3: you can meet one of the basic needs first, okay,
- 1:29:42Speaker 3: then it like de escalates everything else. So if I can,
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: you know, I feel like I'm in an environment where
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: I'm safe, there's no current threat, so I've got safety,
- 1:29:52Speaker 3: I'm no longer hungry, and I'm not thirsty, then you
- 1:29:56Speaker 3: can start dealing with other things.
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: I like that, okay.
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: Also, if you want to go just a touch more
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: like a plus note, that's a as an a idea
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: a plus note the food that you give to make
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: it really like ooey, gooey and sticky, because that it's
- 1:30:10Speaker 2: really hard for them to keep yelling at each other
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: while their mouths are all stuck in like.
- 1:30:14Speaker 4: Sticky peanut butter.
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: Peanut butter, Yeah, peanut butter.
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: This this caramel peanut butter snack that I've got. Yeah,
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: That's what I usually do is I'll just take yeah, caramel, yeah,
- 1:30:26Speaker 3: with some fudge on the outside.
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: Dip it in peanut butter. This is a dish of
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: caramel and things.
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: Yeah, feed this to each other and then then to
- 1:30:41Speaker 2: each other.
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: The old man Tangent's coming with his were the originals. Again.
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: Don't fight. He's always trying to get us eat candy. Guys.
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: If you fight in front of Tangent, he gets a
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: real creepy. Not fight in front of Tangent.
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: You can't go down a most sella get a popsicle.
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: I got a whole sellericles. Well. Anyway, writer, I love
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: how you handled this. I like that you perceived this
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: other person. You took the time just to make them
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: feel heard and show them that you don't just take
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: them for granted, but like to get to know them,
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: let them express their woes a little bit, share their challenges.
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: That's tremendous and it had a humanizing effect for them.
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: They felt closer to you. And then you gave great
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: advice in the ecosystem and said, hey, you know, this
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: guy could use a good pat on the back. Boss.
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: You know, maybe let's just do that for right now.
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: Don't tell them what's wrong right now just tell them
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: what's right, and it made a huge difference. I mean
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: a lot of times people only ever hear from anybody
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: else when something's wrong. It can give them the perception
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: that they don't matter. So great job. I'm glad you
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: learned it from our show, and I'm glad you'll be
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: going to patreon dot com slash therapy and funding the
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: mental health content. Well three dollars a month you can
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: help keep this show on the air. Yeah, and for
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: as much as one hundred you can buy all the
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: sponsorship spots and just harass that first writer about their dad.
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: I mean, this show can be a force for evil
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: if you're willing to pay for it. That's right. We're
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: not above it. But anyway, price as we wrap up
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: the show. Wait no, that's not it. We're to take
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: quick break and when we come back, we are going
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: to wrap up the show. You are listening to pod therapy.
- 1:32:09Speaker 3: Today's episode is brought to you by s Mason Miller,
- 1:32:12Speaker 3: Test Miller Filer, t Paris, Monico, Oscra, Swanrose, Hannah, Marie,
- 1:32:16Speaker 3: Emma Kay and Myra and Sam Cone. And if you'd
- 1:32:19Speaker 3: like to sponsor the show, become a thera producer patreon
- 1:32:22Speaker 3: dot com.
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: Last question for the room, everybody gets to pick an answer.
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: What do you call it when someone correctly predicts every
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: single game in their bracket? Is it called impossible? A
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: perfect bracket, a golden bracket, a clean sweep, or a
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: royal flush perfect golden clean sweep or royal flush perfect
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: perfect perfect going, perfect clean sweep. The correct answer is
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: a perfect bracket. The odds of actually doing it are
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: roughly one in nine point two quinn trillion.
- 1:33:02Speaker 2: As of today, as of today, our recording day. Today,
- 1:33:07Speaker 2: I saw on ESPN they had one bracket left on
- 1:33:11Speaker 2: their whole site. Out of all thousands of thousands that
- 1:33:14Speaker 2: got submitted, there's one left that has the potential of
- 1:33:17Speaker 2: being perfect. Right, yeah, oh, usually the first day, usually
- 1:33:23Speaker 2: all the brackets are gone. Like the possibility of a
- 1:33:27Speaker 2: perfect bracket on like Yahoo and ESPN all that stuff,
- 1:33:29Speaker 2: it's usually gone on day one.
