- 0:00Speaker 1: No from the Star Rentals Sports Tests your ninety three
- 0:03Speaker 1: point three KJRFMS Sports Headlines.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Good morning, Happy Wednesday, Welcome to the show. Thanks for listening.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Headlines are brought to you by Frost Brewed cors Light.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Just Jill Seahawks training camp practice fifteen yesterday was family day,
- 0:17Speaker 2: it was fight day. I'll describe that for you in
- 0:20Speaker 2: some more detail.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Coming out ied to learn more about that.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Coach Mike McDonald talking about the Seahawks interest in former
- 0:25Speaker 2: Lions first Round picked Terry on Arnold to us on Monday,
- 0:29Speaker 2: and then yesterday the Hard Knocks episode that yesterday evening
- 0:32Speaker 2: aired and John Schneider waved in and we got to
- 0:36Speaker 2: see a little bit behind the curtain of how serious
- 0:38Speaker 2: the interest is. We'll talk about that as well. The Mariners, Yeah,
- 0:42Speaker 2: they lost again, fifth straight loss, ninth loss in twelve games,
- 0:46Speaker 2: fourteen and nineteen. How much do you want me to
- 0:48Speaker 2: go on about that? The trends four to one. They
- 0:51Speaker 2: lost in New York Ems get just a Randy Rose
- 0:54Speaker 2: Arena home running the sixth at broke a scoreless tie
- 0:56Speaker 2: and that's it. Three total hits. So at the fourth
- 0:59Speaker 2: time here in the last week or so, that they've
- 1:01Speaker 2: had four or fewer hits. That's six times in seven
- 1:05Speaker 2: games they've scored either two runs, one run, or no runs.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Ain't real easy to win that way. Brian wou did
- 1:11Speaker 2: his part, five innings, pitch, no runs, his road woes
- 1:16Speaker 2: we talked about at length yesterday. He did his job,
- 1:19Speaker 2: but he was at ninety pitches and that meant they
- 1:20Speaker 2: had to have somebody pitch the sixth, and somebody pitched
- 1:23Speaker 2: the seventh. And we've talked about when their starting pitchers
- 1:25Speaker 2: don't go seven, they're in trouble, and they got in
- 1:28Speaker 2: trouble last night. What the hell's going on with that
- 1:31Speaker 2: love affair with Michael Rutger James two. I just I
- 1:36Speaker 2: just don't. I don't know if Michael Rutger's mom would
- 1:38Speaker 2: put Michael Rutger in as many high leverage situations as
- 1:42Speaker 2: Dan Wilson and the Mariners do. Game spire back tightness unavailable.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Part of that reason Game two of the series to
- 1:51Speaker 2: day in the Bronx four or five, Bryce Miller gets
- 1:52Speaker 2: to start from the Mariners. There are at their lowest
- 1:54Speaker 2: point all season, eight games under five hundred, yet still
- 1:58Speaker 2: inexplicably four and a half games back with forty two
- 2:00Speaker 2: games remaining. You're gonna hear from cal Rawley stepping up
- 2:04Speaker 2: outside the locker room last night and wearing it for
- 2:07Speaker 2: the organization the entire franchise last night after the game
- 2:10Speaker 2: in New York, and NBA moved this morning. That could
- 2:12Speaker 2: affect the expansion process here in Seattle. The Los Angeles Lakers,
- 2:16Speaker 2: remember we talked about they got the ten billion dollar
- 2:18Speaker 2: sale in twenty twenty five, that was a North American record.
- 2:21Speaker 2: They're getting sold again, yeah, I know for more. Businessman
- 2:25Speaker 2: Josh Kushner and Bob Iger of Disney fame are going
- 2:28Speaker 2: to buy the Lakers for twelve and a half billion dollars,
- 2:30Speaker 2: now the new record for North American sports franchises. Multiple
- 2:33Speaker 2: sources of total ESPN this the businessmen were involved in
- 2:37Speaker 2: the expansion process in Las Vegas, but now they've pivoted
- 2:40Speaker 2: and they're going to buy the Lakers a year after
- 2:42Speaker 2: Mark Walder bought him for ten million from the Bus family.
- 2:45Speaker 2: What's that mean for Seattle. We'll talk about this later on,
- 2:47Speaker 2: but this may come up the whole expansion process because
- 2:50Speaker 2: it was going to be a Las Vegas Seattle joint
- 2:52Speaker 2: entry deal and now one of their prime investors of
- 2:56Speaker 2: that expansion at the NBA was probably counting on to
- 2:59Speaker 2: throw ten billion more into it. They're not doing it.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Edmond High School this morning, Jess Man announced their new
- 3:06Speaker 2: running backs coach for the twenty twenty six high school
- 3:09Speaker 2: football season here in Washington. Who you know it is?
- 3:11Speaker 2: No former Seahawks thousand yard rusher Chris Carson.
- 3:16Speaker 3: That is awesome that he's getting into coaching.
- 3:18Speaker 2: How about that? Now not from here, but is obviously
- 3:22Speaker 2: cap roots here and now he's getting into the high
- 3:24Speaker 2: school coaching. Now on with the Wednesday Show Morning, Greg
- 3:26Speaker 2: Belt Jess McIntyre reunited like we never left, back in
- 3:30Speaker 2: the studio together here at Elliott Bay on ninety three
- 3:33Speaker 2: point three KJRFM. Good morning, ma'am, Good morning. Yes, I'm
- 3:37Speaker 2: back here in the studio because of.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Day, is it?
- 3:39Speaker 2: I know exactly?
- 3:40Speaker 3: This is what happens during training camp.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Yeah, by time this time of year, I feel like
- 3:44Speaker 2: Wednesdays feel like Saturdays, feel like Sundays feel like Yeah,
- 3:48Speaker 2: but the Seahawks down practice till two o'clock today. It's
- 3:50Speaker 2: one of those act practices which is about communication and
- 3:54Speaker 2: technique and not about thudding and running around. So it's
- 3:58Speaker 2: a walkthrough and bucket hats and T shirt. And that's
- 4:00Speaker 2: about two o'clock today, and so I'm here because I
- 4:03Speaker 2: don't need to be there so early today. On the show,
- 4:06Speaker 2: today we're gonna talk about the Hard Knocks Training Camp
- 4:08Speaker 2: Episode two. I'm gonna actually just off the top of
- 4:11Speaker 2: the four nine, one, four or five one it to
- 4:13Speaker 2: come with out you text line or the talkback app
- 4:14Speaker 2: on our ninety three KJR dot com or the iHeartRadio
- 4:17Speaker 2: app on nine through three KJR. What'd you think of
- 4:19Speaker 2: episode two? What'd you like? What did you like? What
- 4:22Speaker 2: did you learn about the Seahawks you didn't know before yesterday?
- 4:26Speaker 2: I learned some things. And I'm out there every damn day.
- 4:30Speaker 2: I can see Mike McDonald from a distance, and I
- 4:32Speaker 2: can see his theatrics when he's upset, and I can
- 4:34Speaker 2: see him throw Derek Hall out of the practice when
- 4:37Speaker 2: he was cheap shotting offensive height and Bryce Cable Dow
- 4:40Speaker 2: last week. But I can't hear him because of the
- 4:42Speaker 2: noise and the music and the blaring. It's interesting to
- 4:46Speaker 2: hear him when he's miked up and he's I mean,
- 4:49Speaker 2: he warned Derek Hall not to get close to the quarterback.
- 4:52Speaker 2: The second time, he didn't actually get that closed and
- 4:54Speaker 2: he actually got pushed and blocked a little bit into him.
- 4:56Speaker 4: But it was almost like a yellow card, write card,
- 4:59Speaker 4: exactly situation, Yes.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Exactly right. And he was sending a message to the
- 5:03Speaker 2: entire team and if I can throw a forty two
- 5:05Speaker 2: million dollar linebacker we just minted out of the practice,
- 5:07Speaker 2: I can throw anyone. Don't get near the quarterback because
- 5:10Speaker 2: that will ruin our season. That was interesting because I
- 5:13Speaker 2: don't get to see that. And we're going to talk
- 5:16Speaker 2: about the Terry on Arnold process because that was the
- 5:19Speaker 2: news of it. Last week. The news of it was
- 5:21Speaker 2: Devin Witherspoon with his monologue in his car talking about
- 5:24Speaker 2: his contract and how you pay pay me please. Well,
- 5:28Speaker 2: yesterday's news was about Terry on Arnold and the Seahawks
- 5:31Speaker 2: interest and John Schneider's interesting preemptive preparation for all of this,
- 5:38Speaker 2: I thought was the most interesting part of it. We'll
- 5:40Speaker 2: talk about that. NFL Films was also inside the indoor
- 5:43Speaker 2: practice facility on Sunday when Terry on Arnold had his visit.
- 5:47Speaker 2: I want to clear up something I was told yesterday
- 5:49Speaker 2: by the Seahawks and people that know, to clarify that
- 5:53Speaker 2: it was Terry on Arnold's first visit, not second, is
- 5:56Speaker 2: why do we reported that was his second visit? Yeah,
- 5:59Speaker 2: which would which would of course spike the Seahawks interests
- 6:03Speaker 2: indicated it's even higher, but it was his first visit
- 6:06Speaker 2: and they had to try out. Then. Now, once you
- 6:07Speaker 2: put it on a free agent, you could have free
- 6:09Speaker 2: agent visits which you have to report to the league.
- 6:12Speaker 2: But then you also if a player steps on the
- 6:14Speaker 2: field and does a workout, that's considered a tryout and
- 6:17Speaker 2: you have to put that on the NFL transactions as
- 6:19Speaker 2: a tryout of a free agent player, and that is
- 6:21Speaker 2: what the Seahawks did the latter but that was his
- 6:24Speaker 2: first visit, just to clarify that. We'll talk about the
- 6:27Speaker 2: Hard Knocks episode too, But my first question though, for
- 6:30Speaker 2: the text line in the talk back line, would you
- 6:31Speaker 2: think of it? Would you learn what was interesting to
- 6:33Speaker 2: you that you didn't know about the Seahawks before last night?
- 6:36Speaker 2: What do we know about the Mariners before they lost
- 6:38Speaker 2: last night? It's the same old I mean, it's an
- 6:40Speaker 2: uncanny how you can watch a Mariner game and just
- 6:42Speaker 2: know what's gonna happen. It's amazing. They're not gonna hit,
- 6:45Speaker 2: they're not gonna score on let's yet a home run
- 6:47Speaker 2: Rose Arena. It's a home run to the opposite field
- 6:49Speaker 2: in the sixth inning. Okay, then you watch in the
- 6:53Speaker 2: game early and you see Brian Wooz. Oh he's up
- 6:55Speaker 2: to seventy some pitches in the fourth day. Uh oh,
- 6:58Speaker 2: you know when he had thirty five pitches in the
- 6:59Speaker 2: first standing, you knew somebody's gonna have to be the
- 7:03Speaker 2: bridge guy in the sixth and seventh because remember, if
- 7:05Speaker 2: you pitch beyond ninety pitches, your arm falls off. So
- 7:08Speaker 2: when WU got to ninety pitches in the fifth inning,
- 7:11Speaker 2: they had to go because that's the rule the Mariners
- 7:14Speaker 2: lived by. They had to go to Ferrara in the
- 7:17Speaker 2: sixth or somebody. And after they went to Ferrara in
- 7:20Speaker 2: the sixth, remember the rule is you can't pitch more
- 7:22Speaker 2: than what any of your arm falls off out of
- 7:23Speaker 2: the bullpen. It's amazing how arms just somehow stay on
- 7:26Speaker 2: their shoulders even though they have all these rules. The
- 7:29Speaker 2: seventh inning, someone else had to come in. And I
- 7:33Speaker 2: really do think sometimes Michael Rutger's mom is managing the Mariners.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Michael Rutger came into Yankee Stadium in a one nothing
- 7:39Speaker 2: game that the Mariners almost had to win but certainly
- 7:43Speaker 2: could have used winning with the lead. A triple A
- 7:46Speaker 2: pitcher who has yet to prove himself in a high
- 7:49Speaker 2: leverage situation came in the highest leverage situation there is
- 7:52Speaker 2: in the sport. You could say, the bright lights of
- 7:54Speaker 2: Yankee Stadium with a one nothing leading the seventh, what's
- 7:57Speaker 2: he do? He gets one out and four runs allowed.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Game set match, eight game losing. You're eight games under
- 8:04Speaker 2: five hundred. It's amazing. It's like you didn't have to
- 8:11Speaker 2: watch Mariner games. You just watch a few innings and
- 8:13Speaker 2: you know what's gonna happen. I'm gonna go eat. I'm
- 8:16Speaker 2: gonna go do something though. I'll just find out what
- 8:18Speaker 2: the final score ends up being. You know who's gonna
- 8:19Speaker 2: win when that happens. If they don't get a starting
- 8:23Speaker 2: pitcher into sixth or seventh inning, they're they're cooked. Their
- 8:26Speaker 2: middle relief, the way they use their bullpen, they're done.
- 8:29Speaker 2: They trying to get the game to munos. The move game.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Don't even get to munos at this rate. Bring Munhos
- 8:34Speaker 2: in for the seventh it's better than what they're doing
- 8:37Speaker 2: right now. We'll talk about that whether you want or not,
- 8:41Speaker 2: at around ten twenty five. We're also gonna talk about
- 8:44Speaker 2: what I saw yesterday in practice. I mentioned it was
- 8:46Speaker 2: fight day. It was an odd j exposition of the
- 8:48Speaker 2: families and their kids and parents of the players and
- 8:51Speaker 2: coaches on the sidelines watching with a big el gaucho
- 8:55Speaker 2: barbecue watching a fight. The largest fight of training camps
- 8:59Speaker 2: so far.
- 9:00Speaker 4: Yeah, I know, you don't see a lot of that
- 9:01Speaker 4: with this current Seahawks roster.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Mike McDonald likes to go right to the edge of
- 9:06Speaker 2: that and then back off. Yam that he really does.
- 9:09Speaker 2: He does not discourage the skirmishing. He does not. Eleven o'clock.
- 9:13Speaker 2: My guy, our guy far on Lawgy, we expect to have.
- 9:16Speaker 2: He's a goot, ready to get it done. We're gonna
- 9:19Speaker 2: have a weekly segment with Farhig on Lawgy during the
- 9:21Speaker 2: football season. Our buddy from TSN Canada. He was on
- 9:25Speaker 2: the California training camp swing last week. We talked to
- 9:27Speaker 2: him when he was just out of Rams camp. He
- 9:29Speaker 2: went to excuse me, the Chargers camp this week. He's going.
- 9:32Speaker 2: He has not been there yet, but he's going to
- 9:34Speaker 2: the Kansas City Chiefs camp. You number some guy we
- 9:37Speaker 2: know is in Chiefs camp, Kenneth Walker. He's in there,
- 9:41Speaker 2: pile driving defensive players start and fight. Did you see that?
- 9:44Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 9:45Speaker 4: I tell clips, you know, like we can't watch everything
- 9:48Speaker 4: all the time, but it certainly popped up in my algorithm.
- 9:50Speaker 3: I'll tell you that much.
- 9:51Speaker 2: He's smart. I don't know if you noticed he did
- 9:53Speaker 2: a suplex wrestling move. Rather than swinging his helmet or
- 9:57Speaker 2: trying to hit his hand at a helmet, he tackled
- 9:59Speaker 2: the guy the start of the fight. The biggest fight
- 10:02Speaker 2: I saw anyway. So Kenneth Walker learned now in his
- 10:05Speaker 2: fifth NFL season, You don't that's how you fight. Go
- 10:08Speaker 2: down low and you take them down on a wrestling move.
- 10:11Speaker 2: We'll talk Toofarhan at eleven o'clock and eleven thirty is again.
- 10:14Speaker 2: We'll be back your text and to coming to dodge
- 10:16Speaker 2: text line. Jessman really wants you to do talkback, so
- 10:19Speaker 2: we come on. You know, I love the Yeah I
- 10:21Speaker 2: heard you up where the app like more voices this week.
- 10:24Speaker 2: The Legends of Golfer back in the Pacific Northwest starting tomorrow.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Really they start rolling in to the Club at s
- 10:31Speaker 2: Mawamie Ridge, but it's August fourteenth through sixteenth, the competition
- 10:35Speaker 2: of the Bowing Classic bring the whole family the week
- 10:37Speaker 2: in a fun including the Seahawks Village. Not sure what
- 10:40Speaker 2: that is. What the Seahawks Village is.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Oh, I've seen it.
- 10:43Speaker 2: What is it?
- 10:44Speaker 3: It's actually really cool.
- 10:45Speaker 4: It's well, I don't know if they're set up on
- 10:47Speaker 4: the same place on the eighteenth hole on the eighteenth green,
- 10:52Speaker 4: but it's right outside the clubhouse and it's really really nice.
- 10:57Speaker 4: They have this whole thing that kids can walk through.
- 11:00Speaker 4: I don't know if they're doing the same exact thing
- 11:02Speaker 4: this year, but they usually have a very special former
- 11:05Speaker 4: Seahawks or two who are out there signing autographs and
- 11:09Speaker 4: meeting kids because it's supposed to be a very family
- 11:13Speaker 4: friendly event, which I have noticed when I've been to
- 11:15Speaker 4: major golf events and yeah, there's the last time I
- 11:21Speaker 4: was there, there was a place you could take pictures
- 11:24Speaker 4: in front of a Seahawks backdrop and everything. So I
- 11:28Speaker 4: think that people who are going to the Boeing Classic, oh,
- 11:30Speaker 4: we already know that that's going to be there.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Ten listener of ours are going to the Bowing Class, Yes,
- 11:37Speaker 2: they are you give away five pairs of tickets on Monday.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Tickets started just twenty dollars. To Justman's point about being
- 11:43Speaker 2: a family friendly kids get in free. Go to Boeingclassic
- 11:46Speaker 2: dot com to get your tickets today.
- 11:48Speaker 3: It's just a nice way to spend a day.
- 11:50Speaker 2: We'll be broadcasting out there while everybody button me on
- 11:52Speaker 2: KGr family will be out there on Friday at the
- 11:56Speaker 2: Boeing Classic. I'll be at renting because that's my news
- 11:58Speaker 2: tribune job. At Seahawks practice that day on Friday. Then
- 12:02Speaker 2: the Seahawks had their first preseason game on Saturday, five
- 12:05Speaker 2: pm Atlumenfield against Dallas Cowboys. Not expecting too many of
- 12:08Speaker 2: the starters, if any to play, I don't expect you
- 12:10Speaker 2: Darien Price to play. He was on a backfield yesterday
- 12:14Speaker 2: running ten twenty yard sprints and running some diagonal sprints.
- 12:16Speaker 2: That was his first work since he misspracticed. Yesterday was
- 12:20Speaker 2: his fourth practice he missed with upper legs. So as
- 12:23Speaker 2: according to Mike McDonald, it sounds like an NHL coach
- 12:26Speaker 2: when he talks about stuff like that. All right, let's
- 12:28Speaker 2: go to tarryon ownered last night in the Hard Knocks
- 12:32Speaker 2: second episode, Mike McDonald. There's a scene of him talking
- 12:37Speaker 2: to John Schneider about it in his office, and before that,
- 12:39Speaker 2: the two Schneiders Joey Schneider is a director of analytics
- 12:43Speaker 2: and salary cap money type of guy, assistant to the
- 12:47Speaker 2: GM John Schneider. They were meeting in John Schneider's office
- 12:51Speaker 2: and that's where the scene begins picking up about the
- 12:53Speaker 2: tarreon Arnold. This is what the voice sounded like last
- 12:56Speaker 2: night on eight NFL Films in HBO's.
- 12:58Speaker 5: Hard Knocks with is Terry and Arnold, thing like, we'll
- 13:02Speaker 5: be another controversial signing that's happened. So we could kind
- 13:07Speaker 5: of like, oh, I understand that situation.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Situations where someone has like an outstanding.
- 13:12Speaker 6: Thing, right and then he's look at their signed.
- 13:17Speaker 5: And we're training for a choir just acquired.
- 13:19Speaker 7: You know what I mean.
- 13:21Speaker 8: We have ninety players here right now. We're always kind
- 13:23Speaker 8: of looking for what's next time. We how do we
- 13:26Speaker 8: get ready for, you know, a corner that's not here yet.
- 13:30Speaker 8: You know, like guys that we're gonna need at a certain point.
- 13:33Speaker 8: You want to be strong as healthy as possible. In
- 13:35Speaker 8: December January, last time I.
- 13:39Speaker 7: Was talking about carrying them above.
- 13:44Speaker 9: Oh yeah, he was awesome. He's like he's got a
- 13:49Speaker 9: buddy ice school buddy here. He's like thispused to be
- 13:52Speaker 9: awesome for want just have a baby his wife above
- 13:55Speaker 9: here up here with.
- 13:56Speaker 10: Him be awesome. It's like he's just like, it's just like.
- 14:02Speaker 9: Joey thinks he is gonna be able to play in
- 14:04Speaker 9: the preseason. Sweet.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Okay. The last scene was Mike McDonald saying, sweet. The
- 14:11Speaker 2: reaction that Joey Schneider the Seahawks is getting word that
- 14:15Speaker 2: Taran Arnold will be able to play in the preseason.
- 14:17Speaker 2: This is what we're talking about the other day, jess Man.
- 14:19Speaker 2: There's no way the Seahawks would go this far down
- 14:21Speaker 2: the road with Tara Arnold if they did not believe
- 14:23Speaker 2: he was going to be able to play at some
- 14:25Speaker 2: point relatively early in the season. Now, a couple interesting
- 14:29Speaker 2: things out of there the cutaway. Well, first of all,
- 14:31Speaker 2: let's go to the very in chronologic logical order. John
- 14:36Speaker 2: Schneider is preemptively preparing for the blowback. He's asking Joey
- 14:40Speaker 2: Schneider to go out and investigate cases of acquisitions acquiring
- 14:45Speaker 2: a player who are going to bring controversy with them
- 14:48Speaker 2: and we've talked about it. John Schneider has his own
- 14:50Speaker 2: experience with this, drafting Frank Clark, after declaring he will
- 14:53Speaker 2: not draft, trade for acquire a player who had a
- 14:56Speaker 2: history of domestic violence, which is exactly what Clark got
- 14:59Speaker 2: kicked out of the Michigan program in college for. And
- 15:02Speaker 2: he also acquired Quintin Dunbar, the defensive back from the
- 15:06Speaker 2: Washington Redskins at the time about half dozen years ago
- 15:09Speaker 2: when he was under investigation in charges in Florida, in
- 15:13Speaker 2: Broward County, Florida. So he's been down this road before,
- 15:17Speaker 2: but he is preactively preparing for the controversy of all this,
- 15:21Speaker 2: which I thought was interesting. The other thing you couldn't
- 15:23Speaker 2: see on the radio was what I thought the most
- 15:27Speaker 2: interesting visual of the entire episode. We've been talking about
- 15:31Speaker 2: the dryer, the white magnet board, and the depth chart board.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Did you notice last night in the background of the
- 15:37Speaker 2: John Schneider talk about tarry On Arnold, they showed the
- 15:42Speaker 2: depth chart board again. Of course they had the names
- 15:44Speaker 2: blurred out. The only name not blurred out the only
- 15:47Speaker 2: magnet Arnold Comma Terion. Interesting he was in a diagonal
- 15:53Speaker 2: next to immediately left of all the other right cornerbacks,
- 15:57Speaker 2: just a diagonal kind of haphazardly there to show he's
- 16:00Speaker 2: not on the roster, but he is on their magnet board.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Interesting.
- 16:04Speaker 2: That was very intentional, As I told Chuck this morning
- 16:07Speaker 2: at seven o'clock on my daily appearance with him. The
- 16:10Speaker 2: Seahawks get to vet this thirty six hours or so
- 16:13Speaker 2: before it airs, so they knew what they were doing
- 16:15Speaker 2: there by saying, no, you can keep the terry On.
- 16:18Speaker 4: Arnold, right, they have to have some creative control in
- 16:20Speaker 4: that situation, right, and.
- 16:21Speaker 2: They do right. And they were intentional there. They wanted
- 16:25Speaker 2: tarry On Arnold and his representatives to understand how serious
- 16:28Speaker 2: they are about signing him. Why, because they want to
- 16:30Speaker 2: be at the front of the line in case he's exonerated.
- 16:34Speaker 2: The other thing is it shows the team that they're
- 16:37Speaker 2: only on everything, that they're always constantly trying to improve.
- 16:40Speaker 2: It shows the player, oh, he already They're already making
- 16:44Speaker 2: me feel at home and feel like I'm a part
- 16:45Speaker 2: of this and the rest of the league teams like
- 16:49Speaker 2: the New York Giants, who are hosting Terryon Arnold reportedly.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Newsday reported last night that Arnold's going to visit with
- 16:55Speaker 2: New York today and then tomorrow he's doing Tampa for
- 16:57Speaker 2: an arraignment hearing where he's presumed he will plead not
- 17:01Speaker 2: guilty to eight felony counts that could carry life in
- 17:04Speaker 2: prison for the burglar and kidnapping charges that we talked
- 17:07Speaker 2: about yesterday in Tampa. The New Orleans Saints he reported
- 17:10Speaker 2: to visit there after Seattle this week. That's another message
- 17:14Speaker 2: to them in the rest of the league from the
- 17:16Speaker 2: Seahawks that yeah, we're really in on this. That helps
- 17:19Speaker 2: the agents because now it drives up his price and
- 17:21Speaker 2: a little bit of leveraging that could say is how
- 17:23Speaker 2: interested Seattle is? How interested are you the Giants? How
- 17:25Speaker 2: interested are you the Saints. Then the last scene was
- 17:30Speaker 2: talking about John Schneider talking to Mike McDonald. He said
- 17:33Speaker 2: he went and talked to Jalen Milroe. Why because Jalen
- 17:36Speaker 2: Milroe was the Alabama teammate of Terry On Arnold and
- 17:40Speaker 2: the GM reporting to the coach that Milroe gave him
- 17:43Speaker 2: flying rave reviews, saying he had a baby recently he
- 17:47Speaker 2: would move out here with his young family and this
- 17:49Speaker 2: place would be great for him and all's were going
- 17:52Speaker 2: to be great. According to Jalen Milroe, who fully supports
- 17:55Speaker 2: the idea of bringing Terry on Arnold on board. According
- 17:58Speaker 2: to what we saw from the GM yesterday. All this
- 18:01Speaker 2: is suffice to say is this is not just kicking
- 18:03Speaker 2: the tires. This is a legitimate interest that is pending
- 18:07Speaker 2: whether Arnold is going to be able to play this
- 18:09Speaker 2: year or not. The other interesting thing in that clip
- 18:12Speaker 2: was the cutaway of Snyder saying We're always looking, which
- 18:16Speaker 2: he always says, but we're also looking down the road
- 18:19Speaker 2: for December and January for guys we may need then.
- 18:22Speaker 2: That was interesting to me because he may know that
- 18:25Speaker 2: the legal system may keep Arnold free on bond. He
- 18:29Speaker 2: bade the one million dollar bond in Florida free for
- 18:32Speaker 2: now to be able to play in preseason games, but
- 18:35Speaker 2: then perhaps either through the legal channels in Florida or
- 18:39Speaker 2: the NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has sweeping powers to suspend
- 18:43Speaker 2: players under the Personal Conduct Policy, whether or not they've
- 18:45Speaker 2: been charged by the legal system or not, or found
- 18:47Speaker 2: guilty or not. Yes, it's one of the big gripes
- 18:49Speaker 2: the veterans have with the CBA. So he's bracing to
- 18:53Speaker 2: me for the possibility we could get him for a
- 18:55Speaker 2: preseason gamer to and sign him, and then he gets
- 18:57Speaker 2: suspended or the legal system won't let him play during
- 18:59Speaker 2: the sea and perhaps until the end of the year.
- 19:03Speaker 2: That's to me what that comment meant. Anyway, It's pretty
- 19:07Speaker 2: obvious the Seahawks are trying to get in the front
- 19:09Speaker 2: of the line in case he is exonerated or able
- 19:12Speaker 2: to play at all. And you heard John Schneider saying
- 19:15Speaker 2: that Seahawks believe he will be able to play during
- 19:17Speaker 2: the preseason, which only has three weeks in it.
- 19:19Speaker 3: So yeah, I mean, that's it for now.
- 19:21Speaker 4: And due diligence is due diligence, which is those are
- 19:26Speaker 4: two words that we've been using quite a bit.
- 19:28Speaker 3: When it comes to this.
- 19:30Speaker 4: And you know, I know there's always the innocent until
- 19:34Speaker 4: proving guilty, but this is a competitive sport also, and
- 19:38Speaker 4: even if this reflects poorly on moral character, the front
- 19:44Speaker 4: of the line thing, I think is the most that
- 19:47Speaker 4: I have. You know that you have been saying, like,
- 19:49Speaker 4: we want to be at the front of the line,
- 19:51Speaker 4: and it just in case if he's exonerated and all
- 19:54Speaker 4: this just turns out to be hogwash.
- 19:56Speaker 3: You know what, this guy's career to be ruined anyway.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Is it football all over everything in this case? Because
- 20:01Speaker 2: what is it?
- 20:02Speaker 3: Always is?
- 20:03Speaker 2: But is it in the case of the culture that
- 20:05Speaker 2: Mike McDonald has built, and that becomes the rub. The
- 20:08Speaker 2: one hang up to this is it has countered what
- 20:11Speaker 2: Mike McDonald has brought it and it would appear now
- 20:13Speaker 2: if guys like Jalen Milroe vouched for him and think
- 20:17Speaker 2: would welcome him in a Miller doesn't have a lot
- 20:19Speaker 2: of cashet in that locker room as the second year
- 20:21Speaker 2: of back, third string quarterback. But the point is Mike
- 20:24Speaker 2: McDonald has to consider that because he has built a
- 20:26Speaker 2: culture in togetherness here of guys that are in it
- 20:28Speaker 2: together have been here from the start. Remember most of
- 20:31Speaker 2: this team, forty nine to forty eight guys of the
- 20:33Speaker 2: fifty three un last ye's roster are back. So the
- 20:36Speaker 2: team that won the Super Bowl was so together are
- 20:38Speaker 2: still here? Would they welcome this? As the NFL Films
- 20:44Speaker 2: HBO series narrator of Hard Knocks Last night, Leave Schreiber
- 20:47Speaker 2: put it on the voiceover and heading into this whole
- 20:50Speaker 2: scene was no amount of due diligence will spare the
- 20:53Speaker 2: team from criticism if he's offered a contract, And that's
- 20:56Speaker 2: what McDonald or Snyder was addressing in the very first
- 21:00Speaker 2: audio clip, Now.
- 21:00Speaker 3: There's always going to be eyeballs on that kind of thing.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Exactly, yeah, exactly, just as there was when they drafted
- 21:06Speaker 2: Frank Clark. And I remember the first question I asked was,
- 21:10Speaker 2: wait a minute. You did say what changed four nine,
- 21:13Speaker 2: four to five one? Your feelings about this issue? You
- 21:16Speaker 2: welcome tarry On Arnold for what you know about the situation,
- 21:19Speaker 2: or would you say no, thanks, We're fine with what
- 21:21Speaker 2: we have. When we talked to far Hunt Lawsy at
- 21:24Speaker 2: eleven o'clock, I was texting with him yesterday and he
- 21:26Speaker 2: asked me, Okay, what are you going to bring up
- 21:27Speaker 2: if I come on when I come on tomorrow? And
- 21:29Speaker 2: I said, well, I'm going to ask you about Tarryon
- 21:30Speaker 2: Arnold And his reply was they need him. He believes
- 21:34Speaker 2: this secondary needs him to be a starter, opposite of
- 21:39Speaker 2: Devin Witherspoon. We'll talk about this at length as well
- 21:42Speaker 2: at eleven o'clock with Farhean Lawsy up next Cayle Rawley.
- 21:46Speaker 2: He did what a leader should do, probably frankly should
- 21:49Speaker 2: have done months ago. He took it for the entire franchise.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Last night at Yankee Stadium. He went outside the clubhouse,
- 21:55Speaker 2: met the reporters in the tunnel, and even before Dan
- 21:59Speaker 2: Willson spoke postgame, Kyle Rawley said, I've been awful. You're
- 22:03Speaker 2: gonna hear from the Mariners captain in every way last
- 22:06Speaker 2: night about the sinking Mariners ship. Kyl Rawley next on
- 22:09Speaker 2: ninety three point three KJRFM, Hi, welcome back to the show,
- 22:39Speaker 2: the Rock portion of the Greg Belt Show with Jessamond
- 22:41Speaker 2: McIntyre On ninety three point three kJ r f M,
- 22:44Speaker 2: Happy Wednesday to you. I'm here in the studio at
- 22:47Speaker 2: Elliott Bay. The Seahawks have a practice, a very light
- 22:49Speaker 2: one this afternoon. Then they have a full practice tomorrow
- 22:53Speaker 2: in front of fans, maybe the last full fan open
- 22:56Speaker 2: to the full public practice of training camp. Tomorrow. Friday,
- 23:00Speaker 2: they have another lighter practic, shorter practice before the preseason
- 23:03Speaker 2: opener Saturday, five Pano Lumen Field against the Dallas Cowboys.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Then they practiced Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday next week in Renting,
- 23:11Speaker 2: and then they go travel to Nashville Tech, Tennessee and
- 23:14Speaker 2: have a practice against the Titans on Friday before their
- 23:16Speaker 2: preseason game against Tennessee on that Sunday night. I'll be
- 23:21Speaker 2: in Nashville. I'll be broadcasting from Nashville on Thursday and
- 23:24Speaker 2: Friday next week, including from the practice field at the
- 23:26Speaker 2: Titans facility at the Seahawks joint practice. The Mariners by
- 23:31Speaker 2: then may be subterranean because they are already eight games
- 23:34Speaker 2: under five hundred, fifth loss in a row. Last night
- 23:39Speaker 2: and cal Rally went oh for four. He had two strikeouts.
- 23:41Speaker 2: He struck out ending the game on pitches that were
- 23:43Speaker 2: way upstairs. One hundred and fifty nine. That's his batting average,
- 23:48Speaker 2: not as not anything else good, one five to nine.
- 23:54Speaker 2: He's got one to fifty nine. Last night, after the
- 23:56Speaker 2: loss of Yankee Stadium, he called himself awful, and he
- 23:59Speaker 2: also commented on the calls from Dan manager Dan Wilson
- 24:03Speaker 2: to lose his job. Kyle Rowley met the reporters outside
- 24:06Speaker 2: the clubhouse, which players in baseball rarely do, even before
- 24:10Speaker 2: the manager spoke last night at Yankee Stadium, four and
- 24:16Speaker 2: row and you know the trajectory of this team.
- 24:19Speaker 11: Ill, where's it at and what's it like? I mean,
- 24:23Speaker 11: it's not good, not like well, uh you know those
- 24:27Speaker 11: things for me, you know, I'm awful. Soup, it's Uh
- 24:32Speaker 11: is what it is.
- 24:33Speaker 7: You just gotta I got all the way to.
- 24:35Speaker 11: Be better and to help you know, bring it off.
- 24:38Speaker 11: Guys along and they know we just got on. I
- 24:42Speaker 11: mean we're just playing very very d as ball every
- 24:47Speaker 11: every fast of the game. You'll got you gotta pick
- 24:49Speaker 11: it up. You know from the managers that went to
- 24:52Speaker 11: the you know, it's a huge shut into little things
- 24:55Speaker 11: in the game to help you win baseball games.
- 24:57Speaker 6: And and we're sean kind of.
- 25:00Speaker 2: That's the first step that you would want to see us.
- 25:02Speaker 11: Can you take in that direction? You know, I think
- 25:05Speaker 11: you just gotta we gotta bring that edge every day.
- 25:10Speaker 2: You know it's tough.
- 25:12Speaker 11: You know things are going your way, and uh, you
- 25:16Speaker 11: know it's it's hard to you feel like just issues.
- 25:19Speaker 7: Going your way, but you gotta you know, you gotta have.
- 25:22Speaker 2: A good attitude.
- 25:22Speaker 11: You gotta ultimately bring that edge the player sera day
- 25:26Speaker 11: because it's.
- 25:26Speaker 12: Never given to you.
- 25:27Speaker 11: You gotta go take it as a kind of you know,
- 25:29Speaker 11: when you're feeling bad for yourself, you get a lot
- 25:31Speaker 11: of lots of days goal out there. You maybe maybe
- 25:36Speaker 11: have a little less energy or maybe you don't have
- 25:38Speaker 11: quite the edge that you should have. Every single day,
- 25:40Speaker 11: and and they don't.
- 25:42Speaker 7: First, that's what you meant, a lot of blame on yourself.
- 25:46Speaker 10: You want to blame on the other players.
- 25:48Speaker 8: Dan is taking a lot of blame and overs where
- 25:50Speaker 8: you at.
- 25:51Speaker 11: With that, I mean, ultimately, you know, the players society
- 25:56Speaker 11: outcomes for these things. You know, obviously dam has to
- 26:00Speaker 11: a who comes in and writes the lineup, and you
- 26:02Speaker 11: understand that at the end of the day, those twenty
- 26:04Speaker 11: six guys like to be ready to blame and we
- 26:05Speaker 11: have to, you know, rely on each other. And that's
- 26:08Speaker 11: where the performance comes to me. Dance hot out, they're playing.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Every's out there playing. What are he's not out there pitching?
- 26:15Speaker 2: You know, that's what it comes down to.
- 26:16Speaker 11: It comes out with the twenty six guys in the
- 26:18Speaker 11: locker room, and we're not.
- 26:19Speaker 1: To lean on some different guys.
- 26:20Speaker 11: Each night, and that you know, starts in the ump
- 26:24Speaker 11: out and we just have to do a better job
- 26:25Speaker 11: of relaying that and understanding that you can't point fingers.
- 26:29Speaker 7: We can't.
- 26:31Speaker 11: You'll say, well, it's Jerry's fall justin fallers can't it's
- 26:35Speaker 11: out there fall it's our home where we're the ones
- 26:37Speaker 11: that are bringing except that it's just looks all three
- 26:41Speaker 11: AUTI of it.
- 26:41Speaker 4: You know.
- 26:42Speaker 11: That's why, like I said, is the host leader on
- 26:45Speaker 11: the team. You know, I feel you know, responsible, and
- 26:47Speaker 11: we just have to do I just have to do
- 26:50Speaker 11: a better job or getting ready to go and be
- 26:53Speaker 11: prepared and and bring that you know, that edge and
- 26:57Speaker 11: that bring this.
- 26:58Speaker 7: Strangle and stuff like that.
- 27:01Speaker 2: That was last night cal rally at Yankee Stadium, right
- 27:04Speaker 2: outside in the tunnel, which is why you heard all
- 27:06Speaker 2: the background noise there. He says, not anyone fault with
- 27:09Speaker 2: the players. Don't blame the POTO, don't blame Holland or
- 27:12Speaker 2: don't blame Dan Wilson, don't blame the hitting coach, don't
- 27:16Speaker 2: blame Siteser, don't blame Edgar Martin. Blame us. And he
- 27:21Speaker 2: did this again before Dan Wilson spoke last night. Dan
- 27:26Speaker 2: Wilson looking very dejected after the fifth boss in a row.
- 27:31Speaker 2: The players they know they're owning this. Of course, the
- 27:34Speaker 2: players also know that they know the standings and they
- 27:38Speaker 2: know this division is terrible, and they know that if
- 27:42Speaker 2: they can absolutely play to their capabilities, they could still
- 27:45Speaker 2: win the division. There's forty two games left, there's four
- 27:47Speaker 2: and a half back. There's nothing to suggest this is
- 27:50Speaker 2: going to happen, to be clear, But if Kyle Rawley
- 27:53Speaker 2: does and a few other players play with urgency, you
- 27:58Speaker 2: heard him say it, we're not playing. Sometimes you start
- 28:00Speaker 2: feeling like when you're not performing well, maybe you lack
- 28:04Speaker 2: the energy, maybe you lack the urgency. Those are two
- 28:07Speaker 2: things we have seen in lacking in spades the last
- 28:09Speaker 2: few weeks. I mean, when they fall behind, the game's over,
- 28:13Speaker 2: the body language, at bats, everything, urgency, intensity, the players
- 28:21Speaker 2: have to bring that. That's not the Major League manager's job.
- 28:23Speaker 2: That's not the GM nor the President of Baseball Operations job.
- 28:26Speaker 2: That's the twenty six players. That's what cal Rawley's talking
- 28:29Speaker 2: about there. And I don't think that a raw raw
- 28:32Speaker 2: manager or even a managerial change will change that. The
- 28:35Speaker 2: onus is on the players to do this. Now, there's
- 28:39Speaker 2: still time to do it. They just haven't shown any
- 28:42Speaker 2: any semblance of an inkling of a sign that they
- 28:44Speaker 2: are going to do it.
- 28:46Speaker 8: Now.
- 28:46Speaker 2: They're eight games under. They got two more with the Yankees,
- 28:49Speaker 2: then they go play the trash Cans in Houston this week.
- 28:52Speaker 2: That series is going to be irrelevant. If they're four
- 28:54Speaker 2: or five six games out, they only plan them for three.
- 28:57Speaker 2: They can only make up three games. They suddenly spike
- 28:59Speaker 2: and win three three games in Houston. That's only making
- 29:02Speaker 2: up three games. In the standards. You're still at this
- 29:03Speaker 2: point a game and a half behind. So it's getting
- 29:08Speaker 2: late early, as Yogi Bear used to say. But Kyle
- 29:13Speaker 2: Rawley did what he needed to do probably two months
- 29:15Speaker 2: ago last night. Is just stand up and wear it.
- 29:19Speaker 2: And we always when I was covering ball and covering
- 29:23Speaker 2: the Oaklon Ags for the Sacramento be we there were
- 29:25Speaker 2: two or three guys that did. Jason Giambi not he
- 29:28Speaker 2: was the face of the franchise, but when they lost
- 29:30Speaker 2: or wasn't they weren't doing well, you couldn't find him.
- 29:33Speaker 2: Matt Stairs was a power hitter they got from the
- 29:35Speaker 2: Mexican League. I'll tell you I have all kinds of
- 29:37Speaker 2: a funny age stories, but he was from the Mexican League.
- 29:41Speaker 2: He was the stand up guy. He would stand up
- 29:42Speaker 2: in front of the locker and wear it for the
- 29:44Speaker 2: entire team so everybody else could go hide in the clubhouse.
- 29:47Speaker 2: And every team needs one of those dudes. Yeah, what
- 29:49Speaker 2: else this team needs is a kick in the ass guy.
- 29:52Speaker 2: And we've talked about this is Kyle Rawley, that guy,
- 29:55Speaker 2: I'm not so sure, no, but my status he is.
- 29:59Speaker 3: Yes.
- 30:00Speaker 4: What I was going to say is I always call
- 30:02Speaker 4: him a lead by example guy, right, And that's what
- 30:04Speaker 4: he did last night because he can't be a kick
- 30:06Speaker 4: in the ass guy with his performance right now.
- 30:08Speaker 2: That's a good point too.
- 30:09Speaker 4: But he came out and wore it, and that is
- 30:13Speaker 4: a lead by example way of He's not necessarily kicking ass,
- 30:18Speaker 4: but he's going out there and I wouldn't say shielding
- 30:22Speaker 4: or anything, but wearing it and maybe kicking his own ass.
- 30:27Speaker 2: That's a good point. When you're bat in one fifty nine,
- 30:29Speaker 2: there's not a whole lot of influence. I mean, if
- 30:32Speaker 2: you're getting ripped by the one fifty nine hit or
- 30:34Speaker 2: the guy getting rip's going to be like, dude, can
- 30:37Speaker 2: you bring up your average at two hundred and then
- 30:39Speaker 2: we'll talk.
- 30:39Speaker 4: If I'm not performing well, I definitely don't feel like
- 30:43Speaker 4: I should be telling other people, you know, how to
- 30:45Speaker 4: be better if I'm doing worse than them, if that
- 30:49Speaker 4: makes sense, or you know, if I'm underperforming in my
- 30:54Speaker 4: job in athletics when I.
- 30:56Speaker 3: Used to be an athlete, I can't. I can't do that.
- 30:59Speaker 4: So you're talking about a game where these guys spend
- 31:02Speaker 4: the majority of their lives together, that there can't just
- 31:07Speaker 4: be I get it. It's a huge mental game. It
- 31:11Speaker 4: is a huge mental game because it is so individual
- 31:13Speaker 4: in so many moments, So the mental side of it,
- 31:17Speaker 4: you know, it takes over. So I don't want him
- 31:20Speaker 4: to flip over a table. What he did last night
- 31:23Speaker 4: was leading I do.
- 31:24Speaker 2: I want him to take a table and hit somebody
- 31:25Speaker 2: or the head with.
- 31:26Speaker 4: It the way Craig who they need that they need,
- 31:30Speaker 4: They need Randy exactly.
- 31:32Speaker 3: Randy.
- 31:33Speaker 2: That may be the guy because he's on his way out.
- 31:35Speaker 2: He's going to go test free agency and get a big,
- 31:37Speaker 2: huge deal. What he was he had to lose. He's
- 31:40Speaker 2: the one guy that's hitting consistently, the one guy who
- 31:43Speaker 2: hit last night. Had Randy or Rose Arena take a
- 31:46Speaker 2: back to some of the lockers in the clubhouse. That's
- 31:50Speaker 2: that's an old school I look at that. That's how
- 31:51Speaker 2: when I covered ball twenty years ago. That's what they did. Yeah,
- 31:54Speaker 2: you got some dudes just cleaning house in there. Who's
- 31:57Speaker 2: going to do that? If you missed it because of
- 31:59Speaker 2: the trucks behind and I hear you on the text
- 32:02Speaker 2: line four nine, four to five one thank you what
- 32:04Speaker 2: Raley said, According to Ryan Divish, who who heard most
- 32:07Speaker 2: of his questions. The beat writer for the Seattle Times
- 32:09Speaker 2: covering the Mariners in New York last night, Raley said
- 32:12Speaker 2: about the mindset quote, it's tough when things aren't going
- 32:14Speaker 2: your way. It's hard. You feel like everybody's against you,
- 32:16Speaker 2: things aren't going your way. But you got to have
- 32:17Speaker 2: a good attitude. You got to bring that edge every
- 32:20Speaker 2: single day because nothing's given to you. We've got to
- 32:22Speaker 2: go take it. Sometimes when you're feeling bad for yourself,
- 32:24Speaker 2: you get a little lack of days ago out there,
- 32:26Speaker 2: and maybe it'll have a little less energy and maybe
- 32:28Speaker 2: you don't have quite the same edge you should have
- 32:30Speaker 2: every single day. That starts with me. I need to
- 32:33Speaker 2: do a better job of each and of that, each
- 32:35Speaker 2: and every night, just being prepared and being ready to
- 32:37Speaker 2: go every single night. Ultimately, we just got to play
- 32:39Speaker 2: with a little more urgency. The approach is just not
- 32:41Speaker 2: there to me. It's the off balance swings late to
- 32:44Speaker 2: he's talking about himself hitting here, the off balance swings
- 32:47Speaker 2: late to the heater early on the off speed. I'm
- 32:48Speaker 2: not pointing fingers. I'm ultimately the worst of the group
- 32:50Speaker 2: right now. And I understand that sometimes baseball players can
- 32:54Speaker 2: be stubborn. We just got to put our pride aside.
- 32:56Speaker 2: We got to focus on little more the team aspect
- 32:58Speaker 2: or hitting the ball the other way or how many
- 33:00Speaker 2: times have we said this, or trying to just take
- 33:03Speaker 2: singles and not trying to go for the long ball
- 33:05Speaker 2: every time. Yeah, that would help. Ultimately, when you rely
- 33:08Speaker 2: on the long ball, you're gonna get a lot of
- 33:09Speaker 2: off balance swings and you're gonna be a little outfront.
- 33:12Speaker 2: The pitchers here are really good and you got to
- 33:14Speaker 2: take what they give you. We're just not doing that
- 33:16Speaker 2: right now. Kyle Rawley last night in Yankee Stadium after
- 33:20Speaker 2: the Mariner's loss again fifth straight loss, he said, don't
- 33:25Speaker 2: blame the manager, don't blame the hitting coach, don't blame
- 33:28Speaker 2: the front office. It's the players. It's the twenty six guys.
- 33:31Speaker 2: And he said he's number one at the culprit of that. Now.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Talk is cheap, but they get Another great thing about
- 33:37Speaker 2: baseball is you get another chance later today to do
- 33:40Speaker 2: it again, and then you get a chance tomorrow morning
- 33:42Speaker 2: to do it again, and then you get three chances
- 33:43Speaker 2: in Houston against the trash Cans to do it again.
- 33:47Speaker 2: We'll see, we will see, we will see.
- 33:50Speaker 3: It's not early. You can't use that anymore, but it's
- 33:53Speaker 3: not too late.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Forty two games left, the Mariners are four and a
- 33:56Speaker 2: half games back in a future division. They play the
- 33:59Speaker 2: trash Cans for three in Houston on Friday, Saturday Sunday.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Bryce Miller starts today at the Yankees, a four oh
- 34:05Speaker 2: five start on ESPN Television, not Mariner's TV if you're
- 34:08Speaker 2: going to try to watch it. It's an ESPN National
- 34:10Speaker 2: TV broadcast tonight at four oh five, and then a
- 34:13Speaker 2: day game tomorrow in the Bronx to get away game
- 34:16Speaker 2: back on Mariners TV. I'm next. Family Day was fight
- 34:20Speaker 2: day at Seahawks training camp yesterday. I'll describe that next
- 34:23Speaker 2: a ninety three point three KJRFM. Hi, welcome back, Greg
- 34:47Speaker 2: Bell and Jess When McIntyre with you as we are
- 34:49Speaker 2: every weekday ten am to noon. You're on ninety three
- 34:51Speaker 2: point three KJRFM. Not at si Seahawks training camp today
- 34:54Speaker 2: because they have a late short practice. I'll be down
- 34:56Speaker 2: there later today covering it for the News Tribune as
- 34:59Speaker 2: I was. Yes. My stories are up at the Newstribune
- 35:02Speaker 2: dot com, where you can subscribe for ninety nine cents
- 35:05Speaker 2: for six months, not per month, but ninety nine cents
- 35:09Speaker 2: for six months. At the News Tribune dot com, I
- 35:12Speaker 2: wrote a story about last night's Hard Knocks episode, the
- 35:16Speaker 2: news of it, Terry on Arnold, the Seahawks' interest in
- 35:18Speaker 2: the free agent who has facing eight fellony charges in
- 35:21Speaker 2: Florida and potentially life in prison. He has an arrangment
- 35:24Speaker 2: hearing tomorrow. It's wild that I'm gonna say he has
- 35:28Speaker 2: an arrangment hearing tomorrow to enter a plea on eight
- 35:30Speaker 2: felony charges. Today's visiting with the New York Giants. Yesterday,
- 35:34Speaker 2: he visited with the New Orleans Saints. Sunday he visited
- 35:36Speaker 2: with the Seattle Seahawks. That's the NFL right there. Yesterday,
- 35:41Speaker 2: at the fifteenth practice the Seahawks training camp, Devin Witherspoon
- 35:46Speaker 2: talked to the media for the first time during training camp.
- 35:49Speaker 2: I had asked again, I told you the Seahawks control
- 35:53Speaker 2: who we talked to during training camp. Because there's ninety
- 35:55Speaker 2: guys in the locker room. They don't let us in
- 35:56Speaker 2: the locker room. So we're at the mercy of whoever
- 35:58Speaker 2: they bring out to us to talk to, arranged for
- 36:00Speaker 2: us to talk to. And I've asked to talk to
- 36:02Speaker 2: Witherspoon for weeks, especially after he went on Hard Knocks
- 36:05Speaker 2: last week and delivered a monologue with a camera rolling
- 36:08Speaker 2: in his car, and he's saying, when you got unique cornerbacks,
- 36:11Speaker 2: like I am in a position where it's so hard
- 36:13Speaker 2: and you can't touch guys after five yards, pay him,
- 36:17Speaker 2: Please pay him. That was the quote, yeah, last week
- 36:19Speaker 2: from Devin Witherspoon on Hard Knocks. So I wanted to
- 36:22Speaker 2: ask Witherspoon where that stands now a week plus later
- 36:25Speaker 2: after that clip was filmed, and where the contracts and
- 36:29Speaker 2: negotiations are in his view, and he said, quote, I'm
- 36:31Speaker 2: not worried about that right now. I'm out here focusing
- 36:33Speaker 2: on making plays, trying to get better day by day.
- 36:36Speaker 2: We've got other stuff we are focused on. Ultimately, we're
- 36:38Speaker 2: trying to win games. That's what I'm focused on. I
- 36:41Speaker 2: tried it another way. I said, well, okay, would you
- 36:43Speaker 2: like this to be behind you before the season begins
- 36:45Speaker 2: September ninth against New England, so you're done and through it.
- 36:48Speaker 2: He said, like I said, I'm not really focusing on
- 36:50Speaker 2: that right now. So I guess if you really want
- 36:52Speaker 2: to know how he feels, you got to subscribe to HBO.
- 36:56Speaker 2: The fight day was yesterday. Family Day was fight Day Player.
- 37:00Speaker 3: It's just interesting timing players.
- 37:03Speaker 2: Families and kids and spouses and girlfriends and family members
- 37:08Speaker 2: and parents were there. There was an el gaucho barbecue.
- 37:11Speaker 2: There were bouncy for slides and a water slide at
- 37:14Speaker 2: the top of the berm, and then there was a
- 37:16Speaker 2: fight on the field. Tory Horton at one point, the
- 37:20Speaker 2: wide receiver, the second year wide receiver coming back from
- 37:22Speaker 2: that shit injury. They had a metal rod inserted into
- 37:25Speaker 2: his leg. In February, was called for offensive pass interference.
- 37:28Speaker 2: James Kennedy, a friend of mine and I referee high
- 37:31Speaker 2: school football games with a long time fifty plus years
- 37:33Speaker 2: he's been officiating. Fifty two years he's officiating high school football. Wow,
- 37:38Speaker 2: James Kennedy, Hats off to you, sir, for serving our
- 37:40Speaker 2: youth in public. Fifty two years of high school football officiating.
- 37:43Speaker 2: He also does some moonlighting at the Seahawks, and he
- 37:46Speaker 2: correctly called an offensive pass interference on Tory Horton, who
- 37:49Speaker 2: buried his hands and forums into the chest of Neemiah
- 37:53Speaker 2: Pritchett at the goal him. Well, Horton didn't like that call.
- 37:57Speaker 2: He was in the end zone and on his way
- 38:00Speaker 2: back to the offensive hudle. He went into the defensive
- 38:02Speaker 2: huddle and he was chirping at all eleven defensive players
- 38:05Speaker 2: and in competition the spirit of companies. Defense players didn't
- 38:08Speaker 2: like that either. So in the next play, Horton lines
- 38:10Speaker 2: up outside left. He runs a quick outside hitch route. Basically,
- 38:14Speaker 2: there's a quick out, catches the pass from Sam Darnold,
- 38:17Speaker 2: and Tyokatta comes up from safety behind him. Play ends,
- 38:21Speaker 2: looks like they're gonna go back to the huddle, and
- 38:23Speaker 2: Okata hits him in the back. Horton turned around. Okada
- 38:26Speaker 2: hit him in back again. This is right on the
- 38:28Speaker 2: sideline where all the defensive players are massed, So it's
- 38:31Speaker 2: basically Horton against thirty.
- 38:32Speaker 3: Five some guys who just bonkers.
- 38:36Speaker 2: And then Okata hit him a third time, three times
- 38:40Speaker 2: in the back, and that's when Horton went around and
- 38:42Speaker 2: went after him, and then Okata grabbed him and threw
- 38:46Speaker 2: him into the sideline where all the three dozen defensive
- 38:48Speaker 2: players were. So it was Tory Horton against thirty five
- 38:52Speaker 2: thirty six guys in white defensive jerseys. Well, that guy
- 38:56Speaker 2: out of hand in a hurry. It became the big
- 38:58Speaker 2: wrestling pit and offensive players starting to run over. I
- 39:02Speaker 2: think it was either Mason Richmond or Mary Kite seventy
- 39:05Speaker 2: eight or seventy nine. I couldn't exactly get the number.
- 39:08Speaker 2: He was running over from the middle of the field
- 39:09Speaker 2: an offensive lineman and Derek Hall stopped him like a
- 39:14Speaker 2: bouncer at a club, and just he stopped him, said no, no, no, no,
- 39:18Speaker 2: no no, that's what he told him, yeah, and turned
- 39:20Speaker 2: him away, and finally coaches intervened. But that was by
- 39:25Speaker 2: far the biggest and most participatory fight of camp, with
- 39:28Speaker 2: all kinds of players involved in that. Interestingly, he kept
- 39:32Speaker 2: Mike McDonald kept tyle Cott in the practice. I thought
- 39:35Speaker 2: for sure he's going to throw him out of it,
- 39:36Speaker 2: like we saw Derek Hall get thrown out of practice,
- 39:39Speaker 2: like we've seen. In fact, Chas Sarat, the special teams linebacker,
- 39:43Speaker 2: got thrown out of practice yesterday for hitting a tight
- 39:45Speaker 2: end in the back after a catch at the sideline.
- 39:48Speaker 2: He unnecessarily shoved him in the back and threw him
- 39:50Speaker 2: way beyond the sideline, and McDonald said, get him out,
- 39:54Speaker 2: and I knew exactly what he was talking about. And
- 39:56Speaker 2: there's Sarat trudging off to the sideline. He didn't practice
- 39:59Speaker 2: or scrim for a long time, if at all. For
- 40:01Speaker 2: the rest of practice.
- 40:02Speaker 3: Well, it's a learning experience as well.
- 40:04Speaker 4: Like you will be thrown out of games for this,
- 40:06Speaker 4: you will be benched, you will be flagged, you will
- 40:09Speaker 4: cost your team a play that it's part of the
- 40:11Speaker 4: whole training camp practice too.
- 40:13Speaker 2: Right again, spoken like a daughter of of a football coach. Yes,
- 40:18Speaker 2: you're exactly right, jessmine not to mention the player will
- 40:21Speaker 2: get fined for that during the regular season.
- 40:23Speaker 4: In all of it, there's a whole lot that goes
- 40:24Speaker 4: into it. That's what training camp is for. It's for learning.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Yes, exactly. On the field two issues, Well, let me
- 40:31Speaker 2: tell you what. Most of the action on the field
- 40:33Speaker 2: is actually on a backfield. That's where Zach Charbonay had
- 40:38Speaker 2: a resistance machines rope tied to his waist and he
- 40:41Speaker 2: was doing lateral runs. He's on the physical unable to
- 40:43Speaker 2: perform list. Of course, he had the reconstructive knee surgery
- 40:46Speaker 2: in February. Next to him, Jedarian Price was on the field.
- 40:50Speaker 2: He was running ten and twenty yard sprints and some diagonals,
- 40:52Speaker 2: change the direction sprints. First work he's done. He's missed
- 40:56Speaker 2: four consecutive practice with Mike mcdonson was an upper leg injury.
- 41:00Speaker 2: I saw Julian Neal on that backfield next to the
- 41:03Speaker 2: other two to the two top running backs. Julian Neil,
- 41:06Speaker 2: the rookie third round pick cornerback, was doing some running.
- 41:09Speaker 2: He's had a leg issue and he's also missed well
- 41:12Speaker 2: now two weeks. He and Jake Bobo were missing about
- 41:14Speaker 2: the same time. Jake Bobo was fully participating in the
- 41:17Speaker 2: scrimmaging for the first time in two weeks after what
- 41:19Speaker 2: I was told was a hamstring issue. Jackson Smith and
- 41:22Speaker 2: Jigba still brilliant, still getting separation on Devin Witherspoon, still
- 41:26Speaker 2: making Witherspoon slam his hands together in disgust and anger.
- 41:31Speaker 4: There was a nice little iron sharpens iron thing that
- 41:34Speaker 4: they have going on there.
- 41:35Speaker 2: Absolutely at one point they ran a post route and
- 41:39Speaker 2: Smith and Jigbab beat both Witherspoon and the arriving safety
- 41:42Speaker 2: and think it was Okata on about a sixty yard pass,
- 41:46Speaker 2: but Darnold's pass was underthrown. It was to beat to
- 41:49Speaker 2: the goal line and it ended up landing about the
- 41:51Speaker 2: three yard line, and Smith and Jigba as he is
- 41:54Speaker 2: with his brilliant body control like a basketball player boxing
- 41:58Speaker 2: out somebody for a rebound, kept Witherspoon on his back,
- 42:01Speaker 2: turned back and made the catch, scooping his arms under
- 42:03Speaker 2: the ball at about the three yard line. Smith and
- 42:06Speaker 2: Jigbit every day his route running, his body control, it's
- 42:09Speaker 2: just so exquisite and how he has blossomed since they
- 42:12Speaker 2: traded Dk Metcalf. He's just an all pro, all all
- 42:16Speaker 2: that in the bag of chips, and that's why he
- 42:18Speaker 2: gave him one hundred and sixty eight million dollars towards Saturday. Again,
- 42:22Speaker 2: I don't expected Darien Price to play because he isn't
- 42:25Speaker 2: even back practicing yet. Today would be the fifth practice
- 42:28Speaker 2: he would miss unless he does come back to practice.
- 42:30Speaker 2: Nick emun worry. He came out on the practice field
- 42:33Speaker 2: in T shirt shorts and court shoes and did some
- 42:36Speaker 2: pass rush moves, some rip moves with an assistant on
- 42:39Speaker 2: the field that was not where everybody else was practicing
- 42:41Speaker 2: at the very beginning. He passed his physical yesterday. What's
- 42:45Speaker 2: that mean? He's now able to practice at any point
- 42:48Speaker 2: that he and the Seahawks think he's ready to his
- 42:51Speaker 2: right leg, the one that he had arthroscopic surgery on
- 42:54Speaker 2: the right ankle, looks a little bit weaker, and he
- 42:56Speaker 2: kind of favors it a little bit when you're watching
- 42:58Speaker 2: him walk and jogged around a little bit.
- 43:00Speaker 4: Yeah, as someone who's had that Arthur scopic before mine
- 43:04Speaker 4: was me, I know his wasn't.
- 43:06Speaker 3: But do you lose that mess and then it's quick.
- 43:10Speaker 4: Quick, so so so quick, yes, and so yeah, he'll
- 43:14Speaker 4: he'll have to build that back. But if he has
- 43:16Speaker 4: gotten to this point so far and so fast, I
- 43:19Speaker 4: think he'll be just fine.
- 43:22Speaker 2: So that is what I saw yesterday at practice. I'm
- 43:25Speaker 2: just giving you a glimpse into everything that goes on.
- 43:27Speaker 2: It was a close practice, but they'll do another one today,
- 43:31Speaker 2: an act practice for about an hour or so, and
- 43:34Speaker 2: then tomorrow a full practice open to the public. Thursday
- 43:38Speaker 2: before Saturday in the preseason game NAP next, we're gonna
- 43:41Speaker 2: go bigger NFL. I'm gonna ask farign Lawsy, our friend
- 43:44Speaker 2: from TSN Canada, the NFL reporter who's been on the
- 43:47Speaker 2: West Coast swing of training camps. I'm going to ask
- 43:49Speaker 2: him Aboutterry on Arnold his opinion, and he told me
- 43:52Speaker 2: that they need him. We'll talk about that. We'll talk
- 43:55Speaker 2: about Kenneth Walker and the Chiefs. We'll talk about what
- 43:57Speaker 2: he saw in California last week. Farign Lawsy's up next
- 43:59Speaker 2: eleventh thirty. We'll reback your text on the Takomadadge text
- 44:02Speaker 2: line or some talkbacks if we don't have them already.
- 44:05Speaker 3: You've got some covering.
- 44:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I bet they have to do with cal Rawley.
- 44:09Speaker 2: That's all coming up on ninety three point three KJERFM.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Now from the Star Rentals Sports Tests RD ninety three
- 44:25Speaker 1: point three KJRFM Sports Headlines.
- 44:28Speaker 2: All right, thanks for listening. Headlines have brought to you
- 44:30Speaker 2: by Frost Brewed Corslight Cho's Chill. The Seahawks training camp
- 44:33Speaker 2: Practice sixteen is today. It's an act short one hour
- 44:37Speaker 2: workout and bucket hats and T shirts. Yesterday was full
- 44:40Speaker 2: pads and it was fight day. Tyokatta against Tory Horton
- 44:43Speaker 2: and the rest of the defense juning in behind Tyokata.
- 44:48Speaker 2: The family's got to watch that. Jed Aarian Price was
- 44:52Speaker 2: on a backfield. He was doing some running. He's missed
- 44:55Speaker 2: four straight practice as the first round draft pick with
- 44:57Speaker 2: upper legs Sorna Zach Charbonay was doing some drills with
- 45:02Speaker 2: a resistance machine. He's still on the physically and able
- 45:04Speaker 2: to perform list, and then laid in practice. Emmanuel Wilson,
- 45:08Speaker 2: the free agent from Green Bay, pulled up lame, grabbing
- 45:11Speaker 2: these upper leg Derek Hall limped off late in practice
- 45:15Speaker 2: as well. They'll be so like today, we won't be
- 45:17Speaker 2: able to tell whether they are missing or in practice
- 45:19Speaker 2: because they're just going to be walking through. Don't expect
- 45:22Speaker 2: to see those two or many other starters Saturday, when
- 45:24Speaker 2: the Seahawks play their first preseason game against Dallas. The
- 45:26Speaker 2: Mariners loss yet again, fifth loss in a row, ninth
- 45:29Speaker 2: looss in twelve games, four to one at New York
- 45:31Speaker 2: after one nothing League Randy of Rose Arena had given
- 45:33Speaker 2: him in the sixth with the home run one of
- 45:35Speaker 2: their only three hits in the game, four runs allowed
- 45:38Speaker 2: by Michael Rucker. Well, yeah, what was he pitching in
- 45:40Speaker 2: a one nothing game? In the seventh, he got one
- 45:42Speaker 2: out and four hit runs allowed on four hits. Gab
- 45:47Speaker 2: Spier had back tightness. That's part of the reason that
- 45:49Speaker 2: Rutger was in there. The other is.
- 45:51Speaker 7: I don't know why.
- 45:52Speaker 2: NBA mother could affect the expansion process in Seattle's at
- 45:55Speaker 2: the Los Angeles Lakers are being sold again for the
- 45:57Speaker 2: second time in a year and a half, sold the
- 46:00Speaker 2: Josh Kushner and Bob Iger Iger of Disney Fan. The
- 46:03Speaker 2: businessmen are going to buy the Lakers for twelve and
- 46:05Speaker 2: a half billion with a b dollars, a record breaking price.
- 46:08Speaker 2: This is according to sources telling ESPN, Well, how's this
- 46:11Speaker 2: affect Seattle. Kushner and Iger were involved in the expansion
- 46:15Speaker 2: process in Las Vegas, and we know Vegas and Seattle
- 46:18Speaker 2: are supposed to come in together in the NBA whenever
- 46:20Speaker 2: they get around to finally voting on it. And now
- 46:23Speaker 2: a key investor in what thought would be with the
- 46:26Speaker 2: two investors and maybe win the bid in Las Vegas
- 46:29Speaker 2: are out they're in buying the Lakers. Redman High School
- 46:34Speaker 2: announced today that their new running backs coach for the
- 46:37Speaker 2: twenty twenty six high school football season is former Seahawks
- 46:40Speaker 2: thousand yard rusher Chris Carson. Found that interesting good for
- 46:45Speaker 2: Chris Carson yea his career derailed by a neck injury.
- 46:49Speaker 2: Robbie Yutz went on the injured list he's out for
- 46:52Speaker 2: the season for the Seahawks. Also a neck issue that
- 46:56Speaker 2: cost him playing in the NFC Title Game in the
- 46:58Speaker 2: Super Bowl last year. No Robbie Huts for the entire season.
- 47:01Speaker 2: He's on injured reserve. Our buddy Farhan Lawsy has been
- 47:06Speaker 2: taking a tour of NFL training camps on the West Coast.
- 47:11Speaker 2: We're going to try to get a hold of him
- 47:12Speaker 2: and talk to him. He gave me his word, but
- 47:16Speaker 2: now I know he's ten different things going on. But
- 47:18Speaker 2: we'll get a hold of far from minute. He's going
- 47:21Speaker 2: to be at Kansas City Chiefs camp on Friday in
- 47:24Speaker 2: Missouri Saint Jose, Missouri, where Kenneth Walker has been just
- 47:29Speaker 2: making headlines on and off the field and for fighting.
- 47:34Speaker 2: He had a fight with defensive players of the Chiefs
- 47:36Speaker 2: where he wisely didn't try to punch him with an
- 47:39Speaker 2: empty open hand to a helmet or and he tackled
- 47:42Speaker 2: him and it started a big melee this past weekend
- 47:45Speaker 2: in Kansas City. The Super Bowl MVP running back will
- 47:48Speaker 2: be a focus of Farhan Lawsy when he gets the
- 47:50Speaker 2: Chiefs camp. He now joins us on the Beacon Plumbing hotline.
- 47:54Speaker 2: Hello sir, good morning, sir, how are you well? I mean,
- 47:59Speaker 2: I I bet because you're a football guy. You and
- 48:02Speaker 2: probably your son, another football guy, watched The Hard Knocks
- 48:04Speaker 2: episode two last night already or some other time. What'd
- 48:08Speaker 2: you think of that? And then I'm going to ask
- 48:10Speaker 2: you about the Terry On Arnold situation with the Seahawks.
- 48:14Speaker 7: Yeah, look, it's good.
- 48:16Speaker 2: I just you know all of it.
- 48:17Speaker 7: I know that a lot of people in Seahawksville got
- 48:19Speaker 7: into a panic because they saw nickim and Warrior and
- 48:23Speaker 7: on the scooter, right, and so that put everyone in
- 48:25Speaker 7: a batic even though that was shot earlier. And I'm
- 48:28Speaker 7: sure you've told everybody that he's in a much better
- 48:30Speaker 7: place now. But I love I love Mike McDonald, you know,
- 48:34Speaker 7: early in his career, not giving a damn what other
- 48:39Speaker 7: people think, like as far as the players are concerned,
- 48:41Speaker 7: Like he is in charge, he is the boss. And
- 48:44Speaker 7: I guess when you've won the Super Bowl last year,
- 48:45Speaker 7: it makes it easier to walk into this year being
- 48:49Speaker 7: that way. But I think, you know, for those of
- 48:51Speaker 7: us who have seen him in practice before, and this
- 48:52Speaker 7: is who he is, so he's not gonna pull back,
- 48:55Speaker 7: and he's like I thought that was a lot there
- 48:58Speaker 7: to chew on. I think I think it's a great
- 49:00Speaker 7: series so far.
- 49:02Speaker 2: What do you think when I texted you yesterday about
- 49:04Speaker 2: Terry on Arnold, you said they need him. Explain that
- 49:08Speaker 2: and where you think this is all headed? Does he
- 49:10Speaker 2: go to the Seahawks? And why do you say they
- 49:11Speaker 2: need him?
- 49:13Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 49:14Speaker 7: I mean I look when I when you look at
- 49:15Speaker 7: where their losses were, right, Ultimately, it's it's in the secondary, right.
- 49:20Speaker 7: I Mean, we can talk about Kenneth Walker all we want,
- 49:22Speaker 7: but really their most significant losses in terms of numbers
- 49:26Speaker 7: are secondary. And so I just from you know, from
- 49:30Speaker 7: what I've seen and heard, I think there's some concern
- 49:33Speaker 7: there at certain spots, right. I mean, obviously we know
- 49:36Speaker 7: that Devin Witherspoon is going to be unbelievable, but they
- 49:39Speaker 7: want the flexibility to move him inside and outside and
- 49:41Speaker 7: do some things. I mean, Josh Joel thought it was
- 49:43Speaker 7: a pretty good story last year, but I think they
- 49:46Speaker 7: need some more meaningful depths at those spots. You know.
- 49:48Speaker 7: So you know, is Julia Neil, who's kind of in
- 49:52Speaker 7: and out with injury right now, is he going to
- 49:54Speaker 7: be able to provide them with a level of depth?
- 49:56Speaker 7: Is you know, what's Michael Dan's be going to look like.
- 49:58Speaker 7: I'm not sure. I just think need depth there because
- 50:01Speaker 7: they want to play with three on a regular basis,
- 50:03Speaker 7: and right now, I just don't think they're convinced that
- 50:06Speaker 7: they're going to be great where they're currently at. And
- 50:08Speaker 7: Terry and Arnold right now, you can probably get him
- 50:10Speaker 7: on a pretty cost effective deal given what he's been through.
- 50:15Speaker 7: So they're doing their due diligence. And if you know,
- 50:21Speaker 7: it's just going to come down to whether or not
- 50:22Speaker 7: he could if he doesn't face consecutions within the legal system,
- 50:27Speaker 7: I think you're gonna see him in Seattle. It's just
- 50:29Speaker 7: a case of when and whether or not there's any
- 50:30Speaker 7: league discipline attached to it. But it seems like there's
- 50:33Speaker 7: a real mutual desire to get things done. And look,
- 50:36Speaker 7: I'm sure there's going to be some other suitors, but
- 50:38Speaker 7: if you're him, you want to play in this defense
- 50:41Speaker 7: with a Super Bowl champion and take your best shot
- 50:45Speaker 7: at having some success, even if it's on a short
- 50:46Speaker 7: term deal.
- 50:47Speaker 2: News Day is reporting that Terry on Arnold is visiting
- 50:49Speaker 2: with the Giants today. He's doing Tampa tomorrow for an
- 50:52Speaker 2: arraignment hearing where He's expected to plead not guilty on
- 50:55Speaker 2: eight felony charges that could land him in life in
- 50:57Speaker 2: prison for being assault, burglary, and kidnapping charges from an
- 51:02Speaker 2: incident in February and Tampa, Florida. This is far on
- 51:05Speaker 2: lawsy TSN Canada, NFL all everything for Ts in Canada
- 51:10Speaker 2: covering the NFL, joining us on the Beacon Plumbing hot line.
- 51:12Speaker 2: You're a football guy. You remember the BC Football Hall
- 51:14Speaker 2: of Fame, You've been a coach. How do you feel
- 51:17Speaker 2: how do you feel morally or locker room culture wise
- 51:21Speaker 2: about the Seahawks adding Terry on Arnold.
- 51:25Speaker 7: It's a great question, right, and I think that athletes
- 51:29Speaker 7: in general have a tendency to be very forgiving and ultimately,
- 51:34Speaker 7: if it's proven that he's not guilty, then I think
- 51:37Speaker 7: people are going to be really comfortable with it.
- 51:39Speaker 4: Right.
- 51:39Speaker 7: It's just, you know, you're going to be able to
- 51:42Speaker 7: chalk it up the wrong place, wrong time, and I
- 51:44Speaker 7: know that's flippant. And for me, as a coach at
- 51:48Speaker 7: lower levels where finances aren't involved, you know, I wouldn't
- 51:52Speaker 7: want any part of it, right, like, just because at
- 51:54Speaker 7: the very least you made a poor judgment and you
- 51:57Speaker 7: were in the wrong place at the wrong time, or
- 51:59Speaker 7: around the wrong people and all of that. But I
- 52:01Speaker 7: just think in the grown up world, I don't know
- 52:03Speaker 7: that people don't people see it that way. And I mean, look,
- 52:06Speaker 7: I mean it's funny somebody talk to me about the
- 52:09Speaker 7: Brandon Sorsby situation, right and the gambling and how that's
- 52:14Speaker 7: going to go over. And I'm thinking, we get a
- 52:16Speaker 7: president in the White House who's like the thirty four
- 52:19Speaker 7: time convicted felon and has been charged with a lot
- 52:23Speaker 7: of stuff, and you know it has been convicted, like
- 52:26Speaker 7: you know, there's been sexual assault, there's been all that.
- 52:29Speaker 7: So the president gets to do that, and now we
- 52:31Speaker 7: want everyone else to have moral high ground. And so
- 52:34Speaker 7: I think it's a it's a weird time in the
- 52:36Speaker 7: US in terms of what you morally value, right. So yeah,
- 52:42Speaker 7: so like so I'm conflicted about it, you know, on
- 52:44Speaker 7: all levels. So for me, it's easy to sayn't want
- 52:47Speaker 7: no part of it. Like up here, I also spend
- 52:48Speaker 7: some time in the Canadian Football League and there's everything
- 52:52Speaker 7: here in terms of what the league is involved in,
- 52:54Speaker 7: as teams are involved in are be more than a
- 52:57Speaker 7: bystander in terms of stick abuse and you know things
- 53:03Speaker 7: like that, right, So it's a big cause of here.
- 53:05Speaker 7: So I know that there are players that just aren't
- 53:07Speaker 7: going to get a sniff because if you have anything
- 53:11Speaker 7: to do with anything like that, they're just not going
- 53:14Speaker 7: to touch it. Like the league literally won't register a contract. Now,
- 53:17Speaker 7: that's not to say that everybody in the Canadian Football
- 53:19Speaker 7: League is morally perfect. There's people that have been involved
- 53:21Speaker 7: in other things and you know, it may work for you,
- 53:24Speaker 7: but that kind of happens to be their stand and
- 53:25Speaker 7: their line in the sand. I'm not sure what the
- 53:28Speaker 7: line in the sand is in the National Football actually
- 53:31Speaker 7: probably is gambling, right yeah, and then after that everything
- 53:34Speaker 7: is somewhat forgivable. So it really is weird where we
- 53:38Speaker 7: want to decide that this is good, this is bad,
- 53:40Speaker 7: it's acceptable, or it's not. So for me, as a
- 53:43Speaker 7: coach of young people, you've got to balance the thought
- 53:46Speaker 7: of I do not want that influence around, but at
- 53:49Speaker 7: the same time, you want to try to mentor and
- 53:51Speaker 7: help and work with people so that they can eventually
- 53:54Speaker 7: get into a better place. But that's not the job
- 53:56Speaker 7: of the NFL, right, I Mean, this is the we
- 53:58Speaker 7: got to win now league. So for me, I think
- 54:02Speaker 7: if if he's cleared legally, he's going to get an opportunity,
- 54:04Speaker 7: and if it's not Seattle, it'll be somebody else. And
- 54:07Speaker 7: Seattle knows that if it's not them, it'll be somebody else.
- 54:09Speaker 2: Yes, they do.
- 54:09Speaker 7: So they just got to they got to make that
- 54:12Speaker 7: decision once, once he's clear and rightly or wrongly, he's
- 54:15Speaker 7: going to find employment.
- 54:16Speaker 2: The Detroit Lions and Dan Campbell made that clear and
- 54:19Speaker 2: threw their line in the sand. And but you're right,
- 54:22Speaker 2: in the NFL, the sand just changes depending on where
- 54:24Speaker 2: the tide's coming in and out.
- 54:25Speaker 7: Oh, but it's also it's also once it happens initially,
- 54:29Speaker 7: you've got to make a statement as an organization, right,
- 54:32Speaker 7: and then we walk it back and then we put
- 54:34Speaker 7: context on it, and then we become forgiving as a society.
- 54:38Speaker 7: You know, like all that kind of eventually kicks in.
- 54:40Speaker 7: But I don't think Detroit is wrong for the decision
- 54:44Speaker 7: that they made because when they made that decision, they
- 54:46Speaker 7: had a certain amount of information and they had to
- 54:48Speaker 7: make a statement and that was that. And then like
- 54:51Speaker 7: you know, like don't tell me that if Terry Arnold
- 54:54Speaker 7: was playing for the Seahawks and the Seahawks had make
- 54:56Speaker 7: that immediate decision that Detroit on the other end one
- 54:59Speaker 7: month later wouldn't consider it.
- 55:02Speaker 2: You know what I mean, Yes, sir, that's the way
- 55:03Speaker 2: the NFL work.
- 55:04Speaker 7: It's just it's timing and where you're at and when
- 55:07Speaker 7: you're there.
- 55:09Speaker 2: As you're missing on hard knocks last night, the Seahawks
- 55:11Speaker 2: believe that Terry On Arnold can play this preseason. Now
- 55:14Speaker 2: we'll see if that means just because he's out on
- 55:16Speaker 2: the wild.
- 55:17Speaker 7: I didn't Yeah, no, I didn't see that. That's wild
- 55:20Speaker 7: to me, right because to me, like I think that
- 55:23Speaker 7: if you want to represent your your organization, if your
- 55:25Speaker 7: organization wants to represent certain values, you at least need
- 55:28Speaker 7: to wait for him to be fully cleared as opposed
- 55:30Speaker 7: to just being out on bond.
- 55:32Speaker 2: I would thank you.
- 55:32Speaker 7: It's a talented player. You don't need to play in
- 55:35Speaker 7: the preseason. You don't need to rush this process. You
- 55:38Speaker 7: better measure twice and cut once.
- 55:40Speaker 2: Here, he's twenty three, he still has two years left.
- 55:44Speaker 2: He's only entering his third season out of Alabama. So
- 55:47Speaker 2: the attraction football is obviously you're two years of club
- 55:49Speaker 2: control and a twenty three year old starting corner first
- 55:52Speaker 2: round pick. You'd have bookend first round pick starting at
- 55:54Speaker 2: twenty five and twenty three years old, hence the Seahawks interest.
- 55:57Speaker 2: This is fire on logy. TSN Canada. End your comments
- 56:01Speaker 2: to TSN Canada to the now you can said to
- 56:04Speaker 2: me whatever Now. You were in training camp on the
- 56:08Speaker 2: West coast in the California is on the swing last
- 56:10Speaker 2: week for TSN, and you mentioned that twenty twenty forty
- 56:14Speaker 2: nine Ers players missed one of the practices you were
- 56:16Speaker 2: there for. And now Christian McCaffrey has quote tightness and
- 56:20Speaker 2: didn't practice this week. You said it it's probably bears you.
- 56:24Speaker 2: I was gonna say it bears repeting. You mentioned it
- 56:27Speaker 2: last week with us. But the concern level you have
- 56:30Speaker 2: for the forty nine ers, and maybe the concern level
- 56:32Speaker 2: you felt while you were there that this team is
- 56:35Speaker 2: being held together with duct.
- 56:36Speaker 7: Tape, Yeah, there's a huge concern. I mean even the
- 56:40Speaker 7: Rams were dealing with a level of this, but for
- 56:42Speaker 7: them it was more preventive maintenance as opposed to hear
- 56:45Speaker 7: like they're dealing with some stuff legitimately. And I think
- 56:48Speaker 7: that roster has significant holes without this right. The receiving
- 56:52Speaker 7: court is really really ordinary right, and you're Canada Mike
- 56:56Speaker 7: Evans to kind of be that guy, and we know
- 56:58Speaker 7: he's really good, but he's also thirty two, and you know,
- 57:02Speaker 7: then you know what's Debo gonna give them at this stage.
- 57:04Speaker 7: He was originally supposed to be a rotational guy. He's
- 57:06Speaker 7: probably gonna wind up having a bigger role. Will they
- 57:08Speaker 7: go out and make a trade. When you look at
- 57:10Speaker 7: them defensively, you know, I know there's you know they've
- 57:14Speaker 7: gotten Greg Greenlaw back, and you know there's some pieces
- 57:16Speaker 7: they've added. But when I look at that pass rush
- 57:18Speaker 7: outside of Nick Bosa, I see nothing there, And I
- 57:22Speaker 7: think Nick Bosa's gonna get Like week one, nick Bosa's
- 57:24Speaker 7: gonna be Nick Bosa. Now, he's got an injury history,
- 57:27Speaker 7: much like Christian McCaffrey, much like George Kittle, Right, Like
- 57:31Speaker 7: all those things are going to add up and stack
- 57:33Speaker 7: like they're not one hundred percent sure. George Kittle's gonna
- 57:35Speaker 7: be available day one or week one. McCaffrey, there's gonna
- 57:39Speaker 7: be a constant level of tightness maintenance. Like the odds
- 57:44Speaker 7: of him making it through seventeen games to me, wow,
- 57:48Speaker 7: Like if he does that, I better buy a lottery somewhere,
- 57:50Speaker 7: a lottery ticket somewhere. I just don't think it's gonna happen.
- 57:54Speaker 7: And I don't think they've got the death behind him
- 57:56Speaker 7: that they've had in previous years, So, you know, so
- 57:58Speaker 7: we'll see what that looks like. You know, brock Perty
- 58:00Speaker 7: has that one significant injury a year ago. I don't
- 58:02Speaker 7: know that we're gonna, you know, see that as a
- 58:04Speaker 7: lifetime thing for him. But you know, it's it's a concern.
- 58:09Speaker 7: He doesn't play a style that lends itself to injury.
- 58:11Speaker 7: But they got some key guys that are just they
- 58:14Speaker 7: are absolutely hanging on by a thread, that's the right
- 58:17Speaker 7: way to say it. So I just think that the
- 58:19Speaker 7: injuries are going to be concerned for them all year.
- 58:21Speaker 7: And they're trying so hard to run it back to
- 58:23Speaker 7: the team that got to the super Bowl three years ago,
- 58:26Speaker 7: and all those players are that much older, right, So
- 58:28Speaker 7: I just you know, and McCaffrey's always been hurt and
- 58:31Speaker 7: he's always going to be hurt. So I have huge
- 58:33Speaker 7: concerns there. And I said to you last time, I
- 58:35Speaker 7: said the idea that this is a big three in
- 58:38Speaker 7: the division, I truly truly believe it's a big two
- 58:41Speaker 7: and I don't see this division the way I see
- 58:44Speaker 7: the AFC West or the or the NFC North, right,
- 58:48Speaker 7: like those are one through four elite divisions. I'm just
- 58:51Speaker 7: not seeing it everywhere else.
- 58:53Speaker 2: To your point, Farhun about the depth chart for the
- 58:55Speaker 2: forty nine ers behind Christian McCaffrey, Jordan James, Kaylon Black,
- 58:58Speaker 2: Isaac Garndo, that's it. No, Yeah, break is gone. It's
- 59:04Speaker 2: you're right, It's different. When he was there, was Fred
- 59:06Speaker 2: Warner full.
- 59:07Speaker 7: Go, Fred Warner practiced. He didn't take part in full
- 59:12Speaker 7: eleven on eleven, like he had limited reps in eleven
- 59:15Speaker 7: on eleven the day I was there, Okay, and you know,
- 59:17Speaker 7: I know he's coming back from something, and uh you know,
- 59:20Speaker 7: and you know Greenlaw had his own injury issues a
- 59:23Speaker 7: year ago as well, right, which is why he didn't
- 59:24Speaker 7: work out in Denver. So yeah, it's there's just every position.
- 59:30Speaker 7: You're like, it's not a roster where you look at
- 59:34Speaker 7: and say, like, if you look at Seattle's roster, there
- 59:36Speaker 7: are very few holes in this roster and they could
- 59:39Speaker 7: withstand the level of injury. San Francisco has balls without
- 59:42Speaker 7: the injuries. So you know, like, look when they're all
- 59:45Speaker 7: healthy and they're on they have some high end I
- 59:48Speaker 7: think last year they had five of the highest five
- 59:50Speaker 7: of the seven highest paid players at their respective positions.
- 59:54Speaker 7: It's either four or five million in the last year's camp, right, Like,
- 59:57Speaker 7: that's a that's very much a top down built team. Right.
- 1:00:01Speaker 7: So it's difficult to have depth when you are when
- 1:00:04Speaker 7: you've got the highest paid edgeresser, when you get the
- 1:00:06Speaker 7: highest paid running back, when you get the highest paid linebacker,
- 1:00:08Speaker 7: when you got the highest paid offensive lineman, you know,
- 1:00:11Speaker 7: and now you've got a quarterback that's that's making finally
- 1:00:14Speaker 7: making his money coming out of his rookie deal. It
- 1:00:17Speaker 7: is difficult to build depth through your lineup that way.
- 1:00:19Speaker 7: And I think they're feeling final.
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: All GTS in Canada is heading out this weekend to
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: go back out on the training camp road in the NFL.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: He's going to go to Denver, Kansas City in Chicago.
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: We'll go Kansas City in Chicago. What are you looking
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: for there? I know you're going to catch up with
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: Kenneth Walker. Kobe Bryant's out now for probably at least
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: half two thirds of the season in Chicago. What are
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: you going to be looking for there?
- 1:00:41Speaker 7: Yeah, you know I want. Kansas City is a big
- 1:00:44Speaker 7: one for me, just because, like I fully expect Patrick
- 1:00:46Speaker 7: Mahomes to bounce back and you know, be the NFL's
- 1:00:49Speaker 7: comeback player of the Year. And when I look at
- 1:00:51Speaker 7: that team, like losing those two corners is really really difficult,
- 1:00:56Speaker 7: Like maybe get past Brian Cook in safety. There's a
- 1:00:58Speaker 7: few pieces there that I think they can they can
- 1:01:00Speaker 7: kind of fill that, but losing those two corners is difficult.
- 1:01:03Speaker 7: Now they've made some improvements through the draft and free
- 1:01:06Speaker 7: agency up front, not necessarily high high end guys, but
- 1:01:09Speaker 7: some depth pieces and some value adds that I think
- 1:01:12Speaker 7: their front seven can be better, right. I think Chris
- 1:01:15Speaker 7: Jones can enter the season at a higher level than
- 1:01:17Speaker 7: he did a year ago given what he was dealing
- 1:01:19Speaker 7: with dead so I think they can be better. Their
- 1:01:22Speaker 7: schedule in the first four weeks of the season, They've
- 1:01:25Speaker 7: got like two home games and then I think they're
- 1:01:27Speaker 7: at Vegas and Miami before they hit a buy so
- 1:01:30Speaker 7: they have the ability to start really well. I think
- 1:01:32Speaker 7: their offensive line is going to be in a better place.
- 1:01:35Speaker 7: I don't know what they're going to get out of
- 1:01:36Speaker 7: receive rights at the front end, so I think more
- 1:01:38Speaker 7: is going to be put on Kenneth Walker, and I
- 1:01:40Speaker 7: think for those of us that have watched him this
- 1:01:42Speaker 7: closely in Seattle, on every down back right like he
- 1:01:46Speaker 7: was on his best when Zach Charbonay was a piece
- 1:01:50Speaker 7: of that and got half the carries. And we were
- 1:01:53Speaker 7: debating midway through the season who the actual starter was
- 1:01:55Speaker 7: for Seattle, who the red zone running back was for Seattle,
- 1:01:58Speaker 7: And it allowed Armonday, It allowed Walker to be healthy
- 1:02:02Speaker 7: at the end when they needed him for the playoff run.
- 1:02:04Speaker 7: The Chiefs are convinced he's in every down back. The
- 1:02:07Speaker 7: Chiefs want to get under center more and have play
- 1:02:09Speaker 7: actually be a bigger part of their game. And I'm
- 1:02:12Speaker 7: just not sure Kenneth Walker is that guy, right, And
- 1:02:15Speaker 7: I'm not going to find that out in one training
- 1:02:16Speaker 7: camp practice, But I'm interested to see how they use him.
- 1:02:19Speaker 7: I'm sure he's loving the fact that, you know, he
- 1:02:22Speaker 7: got the money, and so he's going to be treated
- 1:02:23Speaker 7: a certain way in terms of his usage and just
- 1:02:27Speaker 7: his perception within that organization. So we're not going to
- 1:02:29Speaker 7: find out until we get a month deep into the
- 1:02:31Speaker 7: season as to whether or not it was the right
- 1:02:33Speaker 7: vet for Kansas City to make because I'm not convinced
- 1:02:36Speaker 7: that it was.
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker in Kansas City. Far Hunt
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: will be there. You got any CFL going on? You're
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: going straight to NFL this week?
- 1:02:45Speaker 7: No, I'm moving And I've been to doing play by
- 1:02:47Speaker 7: play for a game Saturday Edmonton in Toronto. On the Sunday,
- 1:02:50Speaker 7: I leave for the for the camp trip. And you know,
- 1:02:54Speaker 7: the other guy I want to see is Travis Kelcey
- 1:02:56Speaker 7: on that trip because I keep hearing that, you know,
- 1:02:59Speaker 7: I keep hearing he. You know, he doesn't look as
- 1:03:01Speaker 7: fit as he was. Was that he you know, they're
- 1:03:03Speaker 7: kind of working him in and out. Last year was
- 1:03:05Speaker 7: a difficult season for him too. It wasn't just a
- 1:03:07Speaker 7: difficult season for Patrick Mahomes. And I'm excited to see
- 1:03:11Speaker 7: Denver to see what's there right because I think it
- 1:03:14Speaker 7: was such a defensive driven team a year ago, and
- 1:03:18Speaker 7: I think there's an assumption that the offense is going
- 1:03:20Speaker 7: to catch up. I think there's a belief that there's
- 1:03:21Speaker 7: going to be another level for bow Knicks to get
- 1:03:24Speaker 7: to and getting Jayalen Waddle into that lineup is going
- 1:03:26Speaker 7: to open things up offensively, and the very well could
- 1:03:29Speaker 7: could happen that way, but you know they won. They
- 1:03:32Speaker 7: were trailing in fifteen games last year and they won
- 1:03:35Speaker 7: fourteen of them. So, you know, we talked about two
- 1:03:39Speaker 7: years ago the number of close games Kansas City was
- 1:03:41Speaker 7: able to win, and last year they were at the
- 1:03:44Speaker 7: other end of those close games. I don't like Denver
- 1:03:48Speaker 7: can't play like that again, right, like that those numbers
- 1:03:50Speaker 7: aren't going to play themselves out the way they did
- 1:03:52Speaker 7: a year ago. So how much regression is there in Denver,
- 1:03:56Speaker 7: because there's going to be some and I do think
- 1:03:58Speaker 7: their offense will get better. Sean Payton's not the play
- 1:04:00Speaker 7: call of this year, right, He's handed that over so
- 1:04:03Speaker 7: you know, he's done that at one point in New
- 1:04:05Speaker 7: Orleans and it works for him. I'm curious to see
- 1:04:07Speaker 7: if it works for him and whether he sticks with
- 1:04:09Speaker 7: that here this year. But so there are a few
- 1:04:12Speaker 7: changes there in Denver too, because I think everybody's expecting that,
- 1:04:15Speaker 7: you know, like they could be the AFC representative in
- 1:04:18Speaker 7: the Super Bowl this year.
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:04:20Speaker 7: I don't think anybody believes, like I've got the Patriots
- 1:04:22Speaker 7: missing the playoffs. I don't know about you. Yeah, you know,
- 1:04:25Speaker 7: I think Buffalo is going to win that division, but
- 1:04:27Speaker 7: I think Denver is the best team in the AFC.
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: Gonicks in Denver, the Seahawks get them in week six
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: on a Thursday night at Mile High, and then the
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: next week after mini bye, they play Kansas City on
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: a Sunday night game at home Denver Kansas City back
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: to back week six and seven for the Seahawks Far High.
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: We appreciate you as and Kansas City played.
- 1:04:45Speaker 7: Kansas City plays Denver week one. So I'll be at
- 1:04:48Speaker 7: that game on the Sunday after the Seahawks game Wednesday,
- 1:04:51Speaker 7: so that's sorry. It's a Monday night game in fact,
- 1:04:53Speaker 7: so I'll be at that one. So yeah, we're gon
- 1:04:56Speaker 7: We're going to look at both those teams at the
- 1:04:57Speaker 7: top of that division real early, and then I guess
- 1:05:01Speaker 7: we get to see both of them with the Seahawks.
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: Yes you do. You're busy man. After travel is about
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: to start.
- 1:05:06Speaker 7: Thank you. When we go for that Thursday game in Denver.
- 1:05:09Speaker 7: Let's you and I go for a hike in the
- 1:05:11Speaker 7: Male High City.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: Let's do it. Let's I got some places in Boulder
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: we need to hit up to.
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: You want to feel out of shape, Let's do it.
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: Let's go to the flat irons. You're on. I got
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: some places for you.
- 1:05:23Speaker 7: Just bring the oxygen. Take you're you're you're the military guy.
- 1:05:26Speaker 7: You're prepared. You got all that stuff.
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: Rocksack, Yeah, I got it, no problem, We'll do that.
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: Thank you man. Good to talk you. We'll talk again
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: next week or so. Thank you, far Hunt lawsy TSN Canada. Yeah,
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: your comments in Canada please, we don't need to. Yeah,
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: but about non football, but yes, the football. Feel free
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: to come to Koma Dodgs tex line four nine four
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: five one where it's lighting up, as as the talkback
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: line about Cayle Rawley's comments last night at Yankee Stadium
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: about Terry on Arnold. You heard far Hunt say they
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: think he thinks they need him. Yeah, Josh Jubb's a
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: nice piece, but they lost two in the second day.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: Two starters Kobe Bryant reekwill and he thinks Terry on
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: Arnold is coming to Seattle if he is exonerated or
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: however that works out in Florida. Yeah, he said. He
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: was also surprised to hear the Seahawks think he's going
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: to play in the preseason Terry on Arnold.
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: Yeah, that whole situation. It's like too much legal use
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: for me to even waddle through. I just listened to
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: experts on it, and I'm like, all right, if I
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: see it, it'll happen. But what I want to know
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: is what Barron was talking about. What does he offer?
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: And we learned a lot there.
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: Twenty three years old, he has two years left in
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: his contract. He was a starter and a first round
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: pick for Detroit until they cut him this summer because
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: of these eight felony charges. Up next he'll be a
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: part of the show and then to coming out Jack
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: signing our talkbacks before Ian finessl join us to see
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: what he's got going today on ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 1:07:07Speaker 10: So after Randy hit the home run to put us
- 1:07:10Speaker 10: up one or nothing, I thought I'd choose chill and
- 1:07:13Speaker 10: sit in the chair and we might have a chance
- 1:07:15Speaker 10: to win the game. Well at that point, Ah, I
- 1:07:22Speaker 10: chose to throw my silver bullet through my TV. Ah
- 1:07:29Speaker 10: Rucker Really, Dan ps doesA Ella and lou Ria bell
- 1:07:34Speaker 10: for anybody?
- 1:07:36Speaker 8: Ah.
- 1:07:37Speaker 13: First off, I want to give Cal some credit, thank
- 1:07:40Speaker 13: you for saying that. But Cal, we are eight games
- 1:07:45Speaker 13: under five hundred right now. Too little, too late, man.
- 1:07:49Speaker 13: You should have been doing this months ago, months ago,
- 1:07:53Speaker 13: months ago, months ago. You're doing this now because you
- 1:07:57Speaker 13: have to, man Like, come on, this is not going
- 1:08:01Speaker 13: to save the team, save nothing.
- 1:08:04Speaker 7: This is compathetic in their show.
- 1:08:07Speaker 6: Dan Wilson here, I was listening earlier, jess Min. Yet
- 1:08:11Speaker 6: a good point in regards to my catcher's statement putting
- 1:08:15Speaker 6: it on his shoulders. You know, if you're not doing
- 1:08:19Speaker 6: well at your job, for instance me, it's hard to
- 1:08:22Speaker 6: tell people what they should be doing. And the reverse
- 1:08:26Speaker 6: is true, Jessmine. I'm sure you've never came down on
- 1:08:31Speaker 6: anybody at the station for taking too much vacation.
- 1:08:35Speaker 12: So last night I saw a pay how pop up
- 1:08:39Speaker 12: notification on my phone that I was charged twenty one
- 1:08:43Speaker 12: seventy seven for Mariners TV.
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: I want that back. I freaking hate this season.
- 1:08:53Speaker 7: The Mariners suck. We're done.
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: Stick a fork in them. I don't want to watch them.
- 1:08:58Speaker 7: They drive me nuts. I can't stand it.
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: It's goodbye Mariners twenty twenty six.
- 1:09:04Speaker 14: Greg, Jeff Joel here, listen, man, this is an appreciation
- 1:09:09Speaker 14: post for Randy A. Rose Arena been your two years,
- 1:09:12Speaker 14: two time All star, most consistent with this bat provides
- 1:09:16Speaker 14: any pop in the lineup. Yeah, he's got some defensive issues,
- 1:09:19Speaker 14: but he's been great since we had him.
- 1:09:21Speaker 7: But the city of Seattle gives.
- 1:09:22Speaker 14: Him no love, makes excuses for cal big dumber. This
- 1:09:26Speaker 14: that the guy's got a lorst batting average than the
- 1:09:29Speaker 14: number ten hitter in my little league team. Shout out
- 1:09:32Speaker 14: to Randy.
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: We can tell the topic du jour who hit?
- 1:09:38Speaker 6: Yes?
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: Whatever do week? Whatever French for week is is also
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: the top maybe the month. Yes, And it's a shame
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: it's come to this, and the Seahawk fans, Mariner fans,
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: they're just dying for a World Series team with this
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: pitching staff. It's the shame it's come to this. And
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: it is eight games under five hundred. Yeah, what can
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: you say? What can you say? The team's built to
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: hit home runs, they have deficiencies in the middle of
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: the bullpen. I don't know what you can say. They
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: just we're more of the same. There'll be at four
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: or five today. Bryce Miller's on the mount and the
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: Marine four and a half back in the Americ League West.
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: I have a question for you, Okay, do you think
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: they outperformed? Do they overperformed last year?
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: Yeah? The skewed the home run Kyl rawly. If he
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: doesn't hit sixty one home runs, then what happens? Then
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: they regress to the mean offensively, and they are home
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: runner busts. And even last season and the season before that,
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: they were home runner bust Last year it worked because
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: they had one guy hit sixty one outside of that
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: meteor strike. Look where they are? Yeah, I do, I think,
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: But then I also think last year was an example
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: of if you get to the playoffs, then what right?
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: You got this pitching staff. Yeah, you've got a pitching
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: staff that can win in the playoff. I know you
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: have to hit home runs in the playoffs, and they
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: did Grand Slam. He's alcs. Yes, you still have to
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: hit home and then we'll try to. But if you're
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: pitching staff, that's the thing with this team. Even if
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: they got in somehow miraculously, they got the pitching staff
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: to go places in the playoffs. They've got pitching that
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: teams would die for it. Milwaukee doesn't have it, Chicago
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: doesn't have it, the Yankees don't, the Rays don't have it.
- 1:11:21Speaker 3: And you can tinker with that too in the playoffs too,
- 1:11:24Speaker 3: So you know, yeah.
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: Thirteen pitchers for four starting spots. You can do all
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: Kate Anderson could pitch the fourth, fifth, and sixth, seventh
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: innings if you have to exactly. But man, that's way
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: Carton before the horse at this point with eight games
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: under five hundred.
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: Yeah, I was just asking no, no, I don't mean because yeah, absolutely,
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: it's in retrospect. But if you're saying that too when
- 1:11:47Speaker 4: it comes to playoffs, and you know Ian has said
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: that plenty of times too.
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: Once you're in it's you know, you're on a fresh.
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: Slate that they could with his dismalsion, they could still
- 1:12:01Speaker 4: do it.
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: Not only that, if they win the American League West,
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: there's a chance they will get a two seed because
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: the American League Central's leader is not that much ahead. Right,
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: it's three year four, so I think it's three or
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: four games over five hundred. The White Sox are the
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: al in general, is right, so you were going to
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: be you could get the two seed by just winning
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: the division. That's wild that's terrible division. I mean, it's
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: just and that's the two seed is what they got
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: last year to get him the home field for the
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: first round series against Detroit. It had they could avoid
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: that wild card round and so on. It's all right there,
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: which makes this the most frustrating season in Mariner history.
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: And I've lived here through one hundred lost seasons. I've
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: lived here through Mike Hargrove driving away in his little
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: red truck when they were winning the division in fifteen over.
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: I've been here for that too, and this is the
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: most frustrating by far. I don't think it's even close. Yeah,
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: back to the to come it out tex line four
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: nine four to five one four five is reacting to
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: my story about Derek Halstopp and the offensive line from
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: coming over and help and Horton out of the pig pile.
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: Derrek Horton comes off very likable, very unlikable the more
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: we see of him.
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: Oh, I wouldn't say that about Terror Hall.
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: I know the Seahawks love him. I know Mike McDonald
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: loves him. And as he said last night, he pushes,
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: gets close to pushing the edge, and maybe he's the
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: one who goes over the edge. But McDonald would rather
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: have that than a guy who doesn't even challenge the edge.
- 1:13:21Speaker 13: Right.
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: He really really likes Derek Hall, I can tell you that.
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: And that's why forty two million dollars went to him
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: instead of boy, I'm off it. Yeah.
- 1:13:28Speaker 4: After right after he got drafted, a former Washington State
- 1:13:32Speaker 4: defensive coach actually was his position coaching elsewhere because Rock
- 1:13:38Speaker 4: was only with us. Rock bell Antoni, I talked to
- 1:13:40Speaker 4: him and he said he's the best leader he's ever
- 1:13:43Speaker 4: had in a locker room, best locker room guy you
- 1:13:45Speaker 4: could ever have, and one of the best people he's
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: ever met. I made that into a promo because I
- 1:13:51Speaker 4: had him on the air to talk about him after
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: the Seahawks drafted him, and that was years ago.
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: But he has a lot of good character references.
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: The Mariners they have they're tried into. Two six says
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: us villagers are checking the pointy parts of our pitchforks.
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: Two five three garbage team versus the trash Cans this
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: weekend in Houston. Two six blamed the GM for holding
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: onto high value excess starting pitchers and prospects rather than
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: upgrading the major league roster by trading them. Two six.
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: The problem with the Mariners is from the top, from
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: ownership and trickles down from there. Yes, the players need
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: to perform, but the manager's decision on batting, pitching, and
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: defense guides the players and the GM is responsible for
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: roster and organizational strategies, and in the m's case, the
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: GM pulls the strings on managerial decisions with a weak puppet.
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: The owners count dollars, not wins a championship. Show me
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: proof this ownership cares about winning over financial performance. Rotten
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: at the core. That is well stated and thorough two
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: five to three. The Mariners are four and a half
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: back right now. By the time they finished this hard
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: schedule with the Red Sox, they are more likely to
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: be ten games back than they are two to three back.
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: They will be cooked. They got the Yankees, then they
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: go to the trash Cans for three in Houston. Then
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: they got home with a homestand that includes the Chicago
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: Cubs and the Philadelphia Phillies, two playoff teams in the
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: National League. Then they go to Toronto and Boston to
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: end August and get him into September. Toronto's falling off
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: a map too, both ALCS teams from last year. I
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: mean we talked about cal Rally here, Vlad Guerrero is
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: having an almost as bad season as cal Rally in Toronto.
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: With Terry On's situation about the Seahawks two oh six,
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: the depth is needed with the defensive back group. This
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: seems a little reminiscent of the Michael Vick incident, which
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: hopefully he's not found guilty, where it could be he's
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: hanging out with the wrong kind of people making the
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: wrong decisions. I really hope that is not the two six,
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: says Coyle's batting average was my weight in second grade.
- 1:16:09Speaker 4: Oh wow, you were a hearty second creader.
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: That was gonna interested what you were gonna say?
- 1:16:16Speaker 3: Hardy? Yeah? Probably.
- 1:16:18Speaker 4: I had girls sports very early in elementary school, and
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: I was Muggsy Bogues's height when I was in fourth grade,
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: and so I was hardy too.
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: I don't think I hit one fifty nine though.
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: Three I bet you didn't. Three six. Oh, relax, We're
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: on pace to lose fifty four percent right now.
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: Yep, we are the Mariners are.
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: We said this yesterday. If the Mariners had a five
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: forty winning percentage, they'd be leading the American League West
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: by about six games. Yeah, but what do we figure
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: it out? They'd be like nine ten games over five hundred.
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: I think it would be.
- 1:16:56Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: The mayor Maple Valley and Furness is joining us to
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: tell us what he got Cooking next coming up on
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: ninety three point three kJ RFM. Papa Anderson pursed because
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: I don't know Can's on the phone or something. I
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: don't know what you do? Do he dare bring up
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: he big time?
- 1:17:34Speaker 7: Does he did?
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: He just gave me a Heisman trophy stiff farm and
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: said I can't do it. Yeah? So do I even
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: bring up the latest Manners fiasco? God? I mean we're
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: going to talk about it today. I'm sure does Michael
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: Rutger's mom make pitching decisions? Probably? She probably would make
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: smarter ones. And Dan Wilson. I know Gabe Speier had
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: a back tightness, okay, but once you see I mean
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: he knew where this is headed in the first ending
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: last night when thirty five pitches for Brian wo no
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: matter how good Wu was, he wasn't going to pitch
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: beyond the fifth sixth inning? Correct? Was Michael Rucker really
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: the option? There one nothing in the sixth or can
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: you bring fair beyond one inning? Please? Or what I mean?
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: Really that would have been the solution, right, Yes, when
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: you're down a guy.
- 1:18:18Speaker 15: That's my first choice for sure, especially considering like I know,
- 1:18:21Speaker 15: we don't like talking about the righty, lefty thing, but
- 1:18:23Speaker 15: it is real for hitters. The first two batters of
- 1:18:26Speaker 15: the inning were very much left handed platoon hitters right
- 1:18:30Speaker 15: so Forreir would have been a perfect matchup. And he's
- 1:18:33Speaker 15: gone more than an inning before. Yes, they had a
- 1:18:37Speaker 15: day off previously. It's not like he pitched the day
- 1:18:40Speaker 15: before there was it's just there's that.
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: Would have been number one.
- 1:18:44Speaker 15: Even if you're not going to do that, Okay, I
- 1:18:48Speaker 15: still would have gone to Bizardo ahead of Rucker.
- 1:18:51Speaker 7: Now.
- 1:18:51Speaker 15: I realized Bizardo struggled lately, but I still think track
- 1:18:57Speaker 15: record matters here and.
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: And Bizarre is pitched in the ALC. Yes, yes, yeah,
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: not scactically obviously, but.
- 1:19:05Speaker 15: He had a really good season last year, and I
- 1:19:07Speaker 15: realized he struggled lately, So I don't necessarily if you're
- 1:19:11Speaker 15: going if you're talking Rucker or Bizarto. I can understand
- 1:19:14Speaker 15: Rucker in that situation, I even and I know this
- 1:19:17Speaker 15: is going to get some hey, based on his debut,
- 1:19:20Speaker 15: I would have probably gone to Dominguez. And if not
- 1:19:22Speaker 15: Dominguez right away when you had the what first and third,
- 1:19:26Speaker 15: nobody out and you need a strikeout. You can't have
- 1:19:29Speaker 15: the ball and play that's where you do go.
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: Absolutely, you inherited a ten million dollars year contract. Right,
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: it's the highest paid reliever in your history. Right, you
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: traded for that. Yes, now you accepted at as part
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: of the Luis Castillo deal. Put him in Yankee State.
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: Even one nothing game with runners on base.
- 1:19:44Speaker 15: Absolutely, and like his profile as a player in that situation, right,
- 1:19:50Speaker 15: he's not a pitch to contact guy. He's going to
- 1:19:52Speaker 15: either probably most likely strikeout or walk right in more
- 1:19:55Speaker 15: cases than not. And a walk is in the end
- 1:19:57Speaker 15: of the world because it's first and third. You can
- 1:19:59Speaker 15: get a on second base, you have another chance to
- 1:20:01Speaker 15: get the guy out, but you just can't have a
- 1:20:03Speaker 15: ball and play there. And that's exactly what happened with
- 1:20:06Speaker 15: with Michael Ruckers.
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: So that's that.
- 1:20:07Speaker 15: I mean, there's just multiple ways you can go about
- 1:20:10Speaker 15: this better than what they did.
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: And then it goes into well, they don't want to
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: bring guy in the middle of an inning, and they
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: don't want a guy pitching one one, you know what
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: I mean? They got all these rules. I know, all right,
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: what do you got today? Maybe not more of that? Yeah,
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: well probably more of that. Yes, we're gonna do a
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: little game called the blame pie. We're gonna a gigantic pie. Yeah,
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: it's gonna be a big pie.
- 1:20:31Speaker 15: We'll try and split it up in a fair fashion
- 1:20:35Speaker 15: in terms of, you know, who takes the blame for
- 1:20:37Speaker 15: where the Mariners are at this point in the season.
- 1:20:39Speaker 15: Cal Rawly famously, I guess, infamously came out last night
- 1:20:43Speaker 15: ahead of Dan Wilson to try and shoulder some of
- 1:20:46Speaker 15: the blame himself. So we'll talk about, you know, how
- 1:20:49Speaker 15: much he really should be taking the blame for where
- 1:20:52Speaker 15: the Mariners are at this point in the season. We
- 1:20:55Speaker 15: got we got more w NBA news with the whole
- 1:20:58Speaker 15: uh you know, sophiem situation and her coach kind of
- 1:21:02Speaker 15: coming out and just blasting the rest of the league
- 1:21:05Speaker 15: and the media for their coverage of it. So we'll
- 1:21:06Speaker 15: talk about that. Obviously Hard Knocks episode two last night,
- 1:21:10Speaker 15: so we'll we'll, you know, cover a lot of what
- 1:21:12Speaker 15: happened there.
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: I heard what you were talking about in the Terry
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: On Arnold.
- 1:21:16Speaker 15: Yeah, I I I more look at like just the
- 1:21:19Speaker 15: culture aspect, because you're there every day, you have a
- 1:21:23Speaker 15: front row seat to a lot of this stuff already.
- 1:21:26Speaker 15: But for me, someone who's not there every day. I
- 1:21:28Speaker 15: love seeing like the shadow boxing, I love seeing the
- 1:21:31Speaker 15: uh uh. The way Mike McDonald talked to Derek Hall
- 1:21:34Speaker 15: was fantastic, you know, stern voice, but also like, hey,
- 1:21:38Speaker 15: I talked to you with respect, and I also understand
- 1:21:40Speaker 15: that's what makes you good as a player. All that
- 1:21:41Speaker 15: stuff is awesome to me. It made me love the
- 1:21:43Speaker 15: Seahawks even more last night, so I'm excited.
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: As I mentioned, I can see the theatrics in the
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: emotion of Mike McDonald throwing guys out, but I can't
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: hear how he's interacting because I don't have a boom micro,
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: I don't have you mid up. But yeah, that to
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: me is even someone who's out there every day. That
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: is interesting, pretty cool and hearst and farness will be
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: in your ears from twelve until three, I'm headed out
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: to Renting for another Seahawk practice, this one in bucket
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: hats and T shirts. Let's go, Jessemin and I thank you.
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: We'll do it again tomorrow
