- 0:42Speaker 1: Welcome to the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest
- 0:45Speaker 1: running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world, twelve
- 0:49Speaker 1: years strong. We've got a great show coming to you
- 0:52Speaker 1: this week. We're gonna be diving into the Philadelphia Phillies.
- 0:56Speaker 1: We're also gonna be getting into Jeffrey Lurie and the very,
- 1:00Speaker 1: very large donation that he made for autism research. We're
- 1:05Speaker 1: also gonna be getting into the Philadelphia seventy six Ers,
- 1:08Speaker 1: the upcoming draft, what they may do with that number
- 1:10Speaker 1: three overall pick, and then what we are throwing down
- 1:13Speaker 1: on the table. This week, We've got our good friend
- 1:15Speaker 1: of the show, he's been coming on for many years,
- 1:17Speaker 1: Charlie O'Connor from phl Y Sports. He's gonna join us
- 1:21Speaker 1: to break down this Flyers off season at the moment,
- 1:24Speaker 1: what the upcoming NHL Draft may look like for this
- 1:27Speaker 1: hockey club in the future. I am Jeff Warren and
- 1:31Speaker 1: I'm here my good buddy, Eric Leonard. How you doing, man,
- 1:34Speaker 1: I'm good. I'm good.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Yeah, it's weird. It's the first week of getting a
- 1:40Speaker 2: glimpse like empty nest um kind.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Of yes with your daughter, had my daughter out for
- 1:45Speaker 1: a little bit here. Yeah, I mean, my.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Son's still here, but you know, he's a twelve year
- 1:49Speaker 2: old boy. He plays video games. You don't even see
- 1:51Speaker 2: him half the time as she's a senior week in
- 1:53Speaker 2: Ocean City, Maryland, and it's just like just getting texts
- 1:56Speaker 2: once a day. Hey, each is fun, and it's just like, yeah,
- 2:00Speaker 2: the funny thing is too because me and you and
- 2:03Speaker 2: all our we used to party a little bit, just
- 2:05Speaker 2: a little bit, a little bit, a little bit, I know,
- 2:10Speaker 2: and she's down there going, Yeah, we made some dinner
- 2:12Speaker 2: last night. I made I made tacos and then we
- 2:14Speaker 2: hung on the boardwalk and then got up at eight
- 2:16Speaker 2: and ran went to the beach and just like, that's
- 2:19Speaker 2: like going to vacation with your family.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Exactly what are you doing? How hungover are you not?
- 2:25Speaker 3: At all?
- 2:26Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, what's the point of wanted to me?
- 2:28Speaker 1: I know, I know, it's incredible, dude, I'm not kidding.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Times have change, they really have. But it's interesting you
- 2:34Speaker 1: mentioned the like empty nest thing. I'm actually having a
- 2:36Speaker 1: conversation last night at my daughter's karate place, which she's
- 2:41Speaker 1: been going to for years and years. Woman who is
- 2:44Speaker 1: there sitting next to me, I know, known her for
- 2:46Speaker 1: years and years. Her daughter is going to Oklahoma University
- 2:49Speaker 1: of Oklahoma, and she's like, she's like, it's so bizarre,
- 2:53Speaker 1: like not having her there, like she's already gonna be
- 2:55Speaker 1: heading out, so bizarre she's not there. And she's like,
- 2:57Speaker 1: oh my gosh, Jeff, you've got two age you're gonna
- 3:01Speaker 1: be an empty nester like just like that. She's like,
- 3:03Speaker 1: I'm just I'm just easing my way into this here.
- 3:06Speaker 1: But she's like, in a few years, it's just gonna
- 3:08Speaker 1: be like bam, just like that for you. And I'm like,
- 3:12Speaker 1: bring it on, bring it on to two fourteen year
- 3:17Speaker 1: old daughters. At this point, i'd I love him to death.
- 3:19Speaker 1: But man, sometimes the emotion's up and down. Holy freaking crap.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Man, it's always double for you. Yes, like yes, like
- 3:28Speaker 2: I can only imagine, like like one is in a
- 3:31Speaker 2: great place, the other one's in a bad place, and
- 3:33Speaker 2: then yours is even compounded by they look the same. Yes,
- 3:36Speaker 2: so it's like it's identical mine to mess with your head.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Yes, exactly. My gosh, Well, I'm glad. I'm glad your
- 3:44Speaker 1: daughter's having a good time. You know, you're getting ready
- 3:47Speaker 1: to you know, you know, ease into the empty nesting
- 3:50Speaker 1: type of thing here. So uh, I don't know, You're
- 3:52Speaker 1: gonna have to let me know how it is as
- 3:55Speaker 1: you're moving through here.
- 3:56Speaker 2: He's still six years and the other I gither one
- 4:00Speaker 2: one can't evehim like blow his nose properly taking care
- 4:05Speaker 2: of himself. Please. It's when I've been approaching that.
- 4:10Speaker 1: I love it. I love it. Wait, look, we want
- 4:13Speaker 1: to mention something off the bat, and like, I don't
- 4:16Speaker 1: know how necessarily serious this is, but it was something
- 4:20Speaker 1: cool that I thought happened this past week. So you know,
- 4:24Speaker 1: I'm just we're all at home and we get a
- 4:27Speaker 1: text from Len and he's like, oh my gosh, our
- 4:30Speaker 1: podcast is number eleven. We're number eleven. We're number eleven.
- 4:33Speaker 1: It's like, what the hell are you talking about? So
- 4:35Speaker 1: apparently there is a podcast database company out there called
- 4:41Speaker 1: Million Podcasts, and they ranked the eighty top Philly sports
- 4:46Speaker 1: podcasts out there, and we were ranked number eleven out
- 4:50Speaker 1: of eighty Philly sports podcasts. Eric, I don't know how
- 4:53Speaker 1: they do it. I don't know how they go through
- 4:55Speaker 1: their evaluation, no clue at all, but I thought it
- 4:58Speaker 1: was cool and I wanted to men because, like I mean,
- 5:01Speaker 1: I remember our first couple of years with the podcast Awards,
- 5:04Speaker 1: which are now like huge and really popular. I know
- 5:07Speaker 1: somehow we got nominated, like a couple of years in
- 5:10Speaker 1: a row or something. Of course we didn't win, but
- 5:13Speaker 1: I don't know how these things happened, but I just
- 5:15Speaker 1: wanted to throw it out there. We're number eleven on
- 5:17Speaker 1: this list for whatever reason. Our good friends at the
- 5:21Speaker 1: Hit and Season podcast they were number two. And then
- 5:23Speaker 1: it was so bizarre some other like w I P.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Personalities and other credentialed reporters who have podcasts in the
- 5:31Speaker 1: Philly sports world with like well beneath us, and I'm thinking,
- 5:34Speaker 1: how the hell does this happen? So I don't know
- 5:36Speaker 1: how they do it, but I'll take it.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Well, it's our wonderful Personalities. Oh yes, I just research
- 5:45Speaker 2: on a million podcasts and apparently the founders are deaf,
- 5:48Speaker 2: so I'm not sure how much.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Creeds I was like, I was like, are you kidding me? Like,
- 5:55Speaker 1: what's happening?
- 5:57Speaker 2: We beat John Clark, He's been there forever. Yeah, I
- 6:03Speaker 2: think we have a good podcast. I think it's different.
- 6:05Speaker 2: I think I do think we try different stuff. We hell,
- 6:08Speaker 2: during just just look at our COVID cover like our
- 6:11Speaker 2: COVID podcasts. My god, we were you and I did
- 6:15Speaker 2: a podcast to our podcast on the Tiger King.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Yes, was nothing to do King. Yes, we had the
- 6:22Speaker 1: break from the break in sports. That's what that year was.
- 6:25Speaker 1: And it was actually pretty damn fun to do the
- 6:28Speaker 1: podcast during the pandemic.
- 6:29Speaker 3: It was.
- 6:29Speaker 2: And we brought Mark in from l A, our music buddy.
- 6:32Speaker 2: He's done movies and music podcasts with us, so it's
- 6:35Speaker 2: not just sports. Maybe that's what kind of gave us
- 6:37Speaker 2: an edge because I did look at somebody the podcasts
- 6:39Speaker 2: they kind of did the same thing.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Yeah, and.
- 6:42Speaker 2: No completely understanda hit in season was well above us.
- 6:46Speaker 1: There.
- 6:46Speaker 2: That is a little ship. Yeah, I mean every time
- 6:49Speaker 2: we interview them, and they're great follows on Twitter, great people,
- 6:53Speaker 2: so I wasn't surprised their their podcasts are like pristine,
- 6:58Speaker 2: clean sounding, like you know, not always like this one
- 7:02Speaker 2: my equipment and Len in particular too, but like but no,
- 7:06Speaker 2: it's I guess it's an honor. I don't know who
- 7:08Speaker 2: to think, but like it it's kind of I was
- 7:10Speaker 2: kind of taking it back for a second, like that's
- 7:12Speaker 2: kind of cool.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, thank you a million podcasts, we appreciate it.
- 7:17Speaker 1: And if you are watching us on YouTube, subscribe and
- 7:22Speaker 1: if you hit that like button, we greatly appreciate it.
- 7:24Speaker 1: If you are listening on an audio podcast, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeartRadio,
- 7:29Speaker 1: whatever podcast or platform you're listening to us on, share
- 7:32Speaker 1: the podcast with some other folks out there, would appreciate it.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Yeah, can I and please on YouTube push it and
- 7:39Speaker 2: watch it? Please? Because my son's twelve and he lives
- 7:43Speaker 2: on YouTube. It's all watch it, doesn't watch TV. So
- 7:45Speaker 2: if I can be like dude, my podcast got two
- 7:49Speaker 2: thousand views, he'll be impressed. Nothing else I do will
- 7:53Speaker 2: impress him. We're beyond that point in life right that
- 7:56Speaker 2: will impress him. So please for my for the relationship
- 7:59Speaker 2: with my son. Help me out, Yes, help us all out, folks.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Just let's get those views up for sure. All right, Well,
- 8:06Speaker 2: let's get into this week's show. We're gonna start off
- 8:09Speaker 2: with some Philly sports history. You know, we've been diving
- 8:12Speaker 2: into Philly sports history a little bit more here on
- 8:15Speaker 2: the show. Got a few that I want to mention here.
- 8:20Speaker 2: As we are in mid June, let's go back to
- 8:24Speaker 2: June fourteenth, nineteen forty nine, Yes, nineteen forty nine were
- 8:30Speaker 2: the Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Eddie Whitekiss. He was shot
- 8:36Speaker 2: in a Chicago hotel by an obsessed fan, and he
- 8:40Speaker 2: miraculously recovered and returned to the nineteen fifty season to
- 8:46Speaker 2: the help to help the Whiz Kids at that point.
- 8:49Speaker 2: So that's nineteen forty nine June fourteenth, and then we're
- 8:54Speaker 2: moving along to June eleventh, nineteen seventy six, Philadelphia Flyers
- 9:00Speaker 2: famously defeated the Soviet Red Army team by a score
- 9:04Speaker 2: of four to one at the Spectrum during what was
- 9:07Speaker 2: called the Super Series. It was really a defining moment
- 9:10Speaker 2: in Flyers hockey lore Let's move four years after that
- 9:15Speaker 2: to nineteen eighty. Nineteen eighty was huge for the Philadelphia
- 9:19Speaker 2: seventy six Ers. June ninth that year, Game six of
- 9:24Speaker 2: the Eastern Conference Finals against Boston Philadelphia seventy six Ers,
- 9:29Speaker 2: you had Larry Bird going up against Doctor J and
- 9:33Speaker 2: facing each other, and Bird, I mean Bird, he delivered
- 9:37Speaker 2: a breakout performance. If you remember watching that game, I
- 9:41Speaker 2: was three years old, but I've of course seen footage
- 9:43Speaker 2: of it. Sixers would advance and face the Los Angeles
- 9:47Speaker 2: Lakers in the finals.
- 9:50Speaker 1: That year. And then we have June thirteenth, nineteen ninety seven,
- 9:54Speaker 1: in baseball's inaugural interleague game, the Philadelphia Phillies faced the
- 9:59Speaker 1: Blue Jays. The relief pitcher Wayne Gomes debuted. He earned
- 10:04Speaker 1: the win, I know in a four to three game.
- 10:06Speaker 1: I know, going back the way I actually read when
- 10:11Speaker 1: I was going through some Philly sports history here, Eric
- 10:14Speaker 1: and I was like, Okay, I'm gonna put this one
- 10:16Speaker 1: on the agenda here to talk about Wayne Gomes his
- 10:20Speaker 1: career four point six e er and with the Phillies. Man,
- 10:26Speaker 1: he was like four point twenty four, four point two
- 10:29Speaker 1: six during the ninety eight and ninety nine season. Not
- 10:33Speaker 1: the greatest pitcher in the world, my friend, not at all.
- 10:37Speaker 2: No, And I was there for a couple of those.
- 10:39Speaker 2: He was the He was the classic. You're sitting at
- 10:42Speaker 2: seven hundred level, you have the entire section to yourself. Yeah,
- 10:46Speaker 2: like me, you and Lynn like in section seven fourteen
- 10:50Speaker 2: alone at the Old Vet and Phillies are down four
- 10:54Speaker 2: to one. It's in the fourth inning and nine times
- 10:57Speaker 2: out of ten a player like Wayne Gham was on
- 11:00Speaker 2: the mound and you're sitting there just watching. You're like,
- 11:03Speaker 2: does this team have any hope. Right, where the hell
- 11:05Speaker 2: are we going? This guy's on our team. This guy's
- 11:07Speaker 2: a third pitcher in our in our rotation, Like, what
- 11:09Speaker 2: are we doing?
- 11:10Speaker 1: Yes exactly. I was like, why am I here?
- 11:12Speaker 2: Yeah? Thank god? I only paid like eight bucks for
- 11:14Speaker 2: the ticket. Yeah, you know, so that's my Wayne Gumps thought.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Going backwards Game six Eastern Conference Finals, Oh, that was
- 11:22Speaker 2: really the game that kicked off like the next four
- 11:24Speaker 2: or five years of the rivalry with Celtics sixers and
- 11:28Speaker 2: ban violent violent series. Yes, a lot of violent series there,
- 11:33Speaker 2: and Andrew Toni became the Boston Strangler. They beat them
- 11:36Speaker 2: in eighty three and got there, but the Celtics beat
- 11:38Speaker 2: the media. That was a great couple of years, Celtics
- 11:41Speaker 2: Celtics sixers. You don't really see robberies like that anymore.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Going back to nineteen forty nine, Roe just some thoughts
- 11:47Speaker 2: were One thought was was that what influenced the beginning
- 11:53Speaker 2: of The Natural where that where Barbara Hershey shoots Robert Redford?
- 12:00Speaker 1: My gosh, maybe I never thought that.
- 12:03Speaker 2: I've never heard that before. And I'm like, because that
- 12:05Speaker 2: part of the movie is that was the part of
- 12:07Speaker 2: the movie. I'm always like, where is this coming from
- 12:10Speaker 2: like I don't understand. I never did enough research, didn't
- 12:13Speaker 2: know if like that's like why that happened in that movie,
- 12:15Speaker 2: because leading up to that part it made sense, and
- 12:18Speaker 2: then that happened, It's like why did she shoot him right? Crazy?
- 12:22Speaker 2: Like I don't know. Did that was at the influence
- 12:25Speaker 2: for Natural if they went out their nose hit us
- 12:29Speaker 2: up absolutely.
- 12:30Speaker 1: If you're watching on YouTube, believe it in the comments
- 12:32Speaker 1: if you can, or shoot us off an email Philadelphia
- 12:36Speaker 1: Sports Table at gmail dot com. I'm gonna put it
- 12:38Speaker 1: right here on the screen for folks who are watching
- 12:42Speaker 1: on YouTube. Again, Philadelphia Sports Table at gmail dot com.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Let us know, dude, I never thought of that. That's incredible.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Well, imagine being a twelve year old Eric Leonard in
- 12:51Speaker 2: nineteen eighty eight watching that movie on VHS over now
- 12:54Speaker 2: because you love baseball, right, and you love the baseball parts,
- 12:58Speaker 2: but then this We're Ladies shoots the hero and the
- 13:01Speaker 2: stomach in the beginning, and you're like, this isn't Baseball's like,
- 13:05Speaker 2: what's happening? I don't know this part? And then my
- 13:11Speaker 2: favorite honestly, I'm not the biggest Flyers fan. Now it's
- 13:15Speaker 2: just hockey. In general. But I'm a huge Flyers like
- 13:18Speaker 2: historian fan. I've watched the Flyers documentary that HBO put
- 13:23Speaker 2: out years ago, like thirty times I the Russian the
- 13:29Speaker 2: Russian mauling that the Flyers did to them in like
- 13:32Speaker 2: nineteen seventy six. Yeah, it's so much fun to watch,
- 13:35Speaker 2: and now you can watch it on YouTube, like the
- 13:37Speaker 2: entire game. But back then when the documentary came out, like,
- 13:40Speaker 2: there's nowhere to go see that, right, Like I never
- 13:42Speaker 2: saw just the highlights from the actual documentary. And if
- 13:49Speaker 2: you go back, like what the way the Russians played,
- 13:51Speaker 2: It's almost comical. Now they're so slow upright, like everything
- 13:56Speaker 2: they do, you're just like, how does no How does
- 13:59Speaker 2: no team just beat the shit out of them and win?
- 14:01Speaker 2: And the Flyers figured it out. But they truly beat
- 14:05Speaker 2: the living shit ass to the player. They left the
- 14:08Speaker 2: ice and ed van Imp when he comes off the
- 14:11Speaker 2: he comes out of the penalty box and just wham
- 14:15Speaker 2: like one of the worst chief shots I've ever seen
- 14:17Speaker 2: in my entire life. Yes, but that was the one
- 14:19Speaker 2: that made them lead the ice. Yeah, but a great
- 14:23Speaker 2: moment in Flyer's history, Philadelphia history, US history. Quite honestly,
- 14:26Speaker 2: well then it leads to the Olympics, the nineteen eighty Olympics.
- 14:30Speaker 2: You know where the US team ends up, Like I'm
- 14:33Speaker 2: assuming and I don't know this assuming after the Flyers
- 14:38Speaker 2: kicked the Russians ass it was basically Russia at that
- 14:41Speaker 2: time was like, okay, we got to get our stuff
- 14:43Speaker 2: together on the international scene in terms of sports and
- 14:45Speaker 2: especially hockey. We got to get it together for the
- 14:48Speaker 2: Olympics here. So you know, they were dominant. The Russian
- 14:53Speaker 2: team was dominant, and they should have lost. I'm sorry
- 14:56Speaker 2: they should have beat probably the US team. But what
- 14:59Speaker 2: an amazing story that was.
- 15:01Speaker 1: And again you US dominance, baby, it's US dominance all
- 15:06Speaker 1: the way around.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Well, the one the one area they the one arena
- 15:10Speaker 2: they did dominate us was their their uniforms are amazing.
- 15:13Speaker 1: They were good. Yeah, yeah, awesome, Yeah, awesome with.
- 15:16Speaker 2: The CCP across the ample across the so cool.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Yes, all right, folks, doesn't mean we'd like the Soviet Union,
- 15:23Speaker 1: all right, all right, just keep things cond or do
- 15:26Speaker 1: you do you speak for yourself? Okay, I'll speak for myself.
- 15:30Speaker 1: All right, Well that's going to do it for our
- 15:33Speaker 1: sports history. This week in Philly in Philly Sports. So
- 15:37Speaker 1: let's move on to getting into this Phillies team. Gotta
- 15:42Speaker 1: tell you it's Philly's team. They seem to have multiple personalities.
- 15:46Speaker 1: They are great for moments, then they go on a
- 15:49Speaker 1: losing streak, then they seem to look unstoppable. Then they
- 15:53Speaker 1: lose a series against the Pittsburgh Pirates for God's sake.
- 15:57Speaker 1: So we want to give our thoughts on where this
- 15:59Speaker 1: team is at ray now. And we did get some
- 16:01Speaker 1: news today as we're recording this. On Wednesday, June eleventh,
- 16:06Speaker 1: not good news in terms of Aaron Nola and MRI
- 16:10Speaker 1: revealed that Nola has a stress reaction in his ribcage.
- 16:14Speaker 1: He's going to be shut down from throwing for at
- 16:17Speaker 1: least another two weeks, if not more. He's been on
- 16:20Speaker 1: the injured list since May sixteenth with an ankle spring.
- 16:23Speaker 1: So Aaron Nola's body just not holding up here at all.
- 16:27Speaker 1: His six point one six ERA is the worst of
- 16:30Speaker 1: his entire season, of any season that he has played
- 16:34Speaker 1: throughout his career. The one thing that has really been constant, though,
- 16:39Speaker 1: regardless of his seasons and stats eric is that he's
- 16:43Speaker 1: always been durable. Aaron Nola has always been durable. He's
- 16:48Speaker 1: never gotten to the point where he's been so injured
- 16:51Speaker 1: that he's missed significant, significant periods of time on the mound.
- 16:55Speaker 1: And I don't know, maybe father time is catching up
- 16:57Speaker 1: to him right now, but it's it's definitely a concern.
- 17:00Speaker 1: It really is, I think as this team is moving forward,
- 17:03Speaker 1: and yes, Andrew Paynter is waiting in the wings, and
- 17:06Speaker 1: this pitching staff is not not terrible by any stretch,
- 17:09Speaker 1: but it's it's just kind of unfortunate what's going on
- 17:12Speaker 1: with Aaron Nole at this point.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Yeah, you kind of have to like look back and
- 17:18Speaker 2: bank all the all the seasons that he had where
- 17:21Speaker 2: he wasn't injured, you know what I mean, Like, Yeah,
- 17:23Speaker 2: he was that durable guy that was always reliable, your
- 17:26Speaker 2: number two pitcher and number one for a short while
- 17:28Speaker 2: before before Wheeler came to town. So for him to get
- 17:33Speaker 2: injured at age whatever, he is like thirty something now
- 17:37Speaker 2: his first like real major injury and like kind of
- 17:39Speaker 2: loss of time not bad. Actually, you know you just
- 17:43Speaker 2: said it. He is very durable. So it's also good
- 17:46Speaker 2: that we know there's something wrong with him because there
- 17:48Speaker 2: was a lot of scuttle but that he's Aaron noa
- 17:52Speaker 2: is done. It's over for him. I mean, he looked
- 17:54Speaker 2: awful this year. At least there's injuries there to explain it,
- 17:57Speaker 2: and we don't have to be like, oh crap, we
- 17:59Speaker 2: have to pull up Andrew Paynter prematurely. All that stuff
- 18:04Speaker 2: so good that you know good, you know about the injury.
- 18:09Speaker 2: As far as the team goes, you know, the pitching
- 18:11Speaker 2: staff is pretty solid even without that. I would love
- 18:15Speaker 2: to see one of the young guys what's his name,
- 18:18Speaker 2: able mc gable, mcabel, Maybe Painter comes up. Maybe they
- 18:23Speaker 2: make a trade here at some point for an arm.
- 18:27Speaker 2: The bullpen's doing a pretty good job, but just the
- 18:31Speaker 2: I don't the type of injury Nola has precipitates some
- 18:35Speaker 2: kind of movement, either from the minor leagues or from
- 18:38Speaker 2: a trade from another team, because that's a nagging injury,
- 18:41Speaker 2: like when you just have ribs and you're throwing that
- 18:43Speaker 2: hard that that doesn't just go away, and you could
- 18:46Speaker 2: you can easily reaggravate that that type of injury. So
- 18:50Speaker 2: hoping they do something there. As far as the team goes,
- 18:53Speaker 2: you know, so up and down right, and we kind
- 18:58Speaker 2: of knew this was going to be the case. They've
- 19:00Speaker 2: been up and down for the past couple of seasons,
- 19:03Speaker 2: even the World Series year.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Yeah, we've seen it before.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Yeah, and but the I told you before the show,
- 19:10Speaker 2: the whole league is up and down. You know. At
- 19:12Speaker 2: one point the Mets were just the Mets swept the
- 19:14Speaker 2: Phillies earlier this year, it looked like they're running away
- 19:17Speaker 2: with NLIS and the National League for that matter, and
- 19:20Speaker 2: then a month later, the Phillies are the best team
- 19:22Speaker 2: in Major League Baseball, including the National League, and it's like, Okay,
- 19:25Speaker 2: here we go, and then they've lost the series. They
- 19:28Speaker 2: have what three series in a row, one to the
- 19:30Speaker 2: Pirates of all teams, and now they're kind of they're
- 19:36Speaker 2: kind of comfortable where they've been all the past couple
- 19:39Speaker 2: of years. They're sitting at what the last wild card spot.
- 19:43Speaker 2: It's mid June. This is kind of where they've been
- 19:46Speaker 2: the past couple of seasons. And you don't want to
- 19:49Speaker 2: peak too early. So I'm not too worried, Like I'm
- 19:53Speaker 2: right now, I have up the last seven days. I'm
- 19:55Speaker 2: looking at the splits for the last of days for
- 19:56Speaker 2: the batters. Brandon Marsh's bat in five hundred cast is
- 20:00Speaker 2: three eighty five real mood two three thirty three, bombs
- 20:03Speaker 2: three eighty, Schwarz baton one fifteen, he's in the toilet. Yes,
- 20:07Speaker 2: that could flip next week. And that's what this team
- 20:10Speaker 2: is like. As long as there's somewhat healthy, Harper comes back,
- 20:15Speaker 2: Nola comes back, or they may they make some trades
- 20:17Speaker 2: kind of it kind of makes some complimentary moves to
- 20:19Speaker 2: the to the to the lineup and the rotation. They're
- 20:24Speaker 2: gonna be fine. Yeah, And it's it's one of those
- 20:27Speaker 2: This is one of those baseball Baseball fans are finicky,
- 20:31Speaker 2: like like man feelers are the best team and then
- 20:34Speaker 2: things go a little south, like they lose the series
- 20:37Speaker 2: of the Pirates, and it's.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Like for like a whoa, for like a year exactly.
- 20:41Speaker 2: I mean it's a week, Yes, it's it's June eleventh, Yes,
- 20:44Speaker 2: June eleventh.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Relax, And yes, I know, folks that they have lost
- 20:50Speaker 1: a decent amount of games. And I don't think Eric
- 20:52Speaker 1: and I are trying to just like play this off
- 20:55Speaker 1: or glaze it over by any stretch, but because look,
- 20:58Speaker 1: there are realities with who this team is supposed to
- 21:02Speaker 1: be and where they are in terms of the power,
- 21:05Speaker 1: in terms of the home runs, I mean, in all honesty, yes,
- 21:08Speaker 1: And our friend of the show, Destiny Legardo from Phillies
- 21:11Speaker 1: Nation dot com, she shot off a tweet today which
- 21:16Speaker 1: I responded to that it was kind of depressing. I
- 21:18Speaker 1: mean the fact that the home run leader board is
- 21:21Speaker 1: not that great. Schwarber hit his twenty first home run
- 21:24Speaker 1: tonight against the Cubs, but then you have Bryce Harper
- 21:27Speaker 1: with nine home runs on the season, Kepler with seven,
- 21:30Speaker 1: Turner with seven, Castianos with six, Bone with five, Real
- 21:34Speaker 1: Muto with five, and Bryce and Stott with four. Like,
- 21:38Speaker 1: the home run leader board is not all that great,
- 21:42Speaker 1: but I don't think it needs to be fantastic for
- 21:46Speaker 1: this team to win games. I mean, just look what
- 21:49Speaker 1: happened tonight with the Cubs. They handle the Cubs. Hezu's
- 21:51Speaker 1: Lozardo was fantastic today pitching against the Cubs. Like they
- 21:55Speaker 1: didn't need to absolutely kill certain teams when it comes
- 22:00Speaker 1: to home runs. So I just wanted to put that
- 22:02Speaker 1: out there as well, that yes, while the leader board
- 22:04Speaker 1: does look depressing, and it kind of is from a
- 22:06Speaker 1: home run standpoint, it doesn't mean that this team doesn't
- 22:09Speaker 1: have the talent and that they can't go far once
- 22:12Speaker 1: playoff time comes. I mean, it's a streaky team. They've
- 22:15Speaker 1: always been streaky. I think, folks, we got to just
- 22:18Speaker 1: sit back and say, okay, so enjoy this baseball team,
- 22:21Speaker 1: you know when when of course they're winning. But you
- 22:24Speaker 1: know what, they they can get back on their feet.
- 22:27Speaker 1: You know we've got our you know, we've got our
- 22:29Speaker 1: banner here at the bottom saying, can they get back
- 22:32Speaker 1: on their feet? Yes, absolutely, the Phillies can get back
- 22:34Speaker 1: on their feet. They just won this series against the Cubs.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Perhaps they're already starting to get back on their feet.
- 22:39Speaker 2: We'll just pull back and gain some perspective. They're the
- 22:42Speaker 2: seventh best team in baseball right now. Yeah, the three
- 22:46Speaker 2: teams that are better than them in the National League
- 22:48Speaker 2: are the Mets, the Cubs, Dodgers, and the Giants. Giants
- 22:51Speaker 2: are half a game up on them. Cubs are pretty
- 22:55Speaker 2: damn good, and we just took a series from them. Okay,
- 22:58Speaker 2: those Pittsburgh's the pirate there. The pitching matchups were pretty tough,
- 23:03Speaker 2: Like they faced the Skins kid who might be like
- 23:07Speaker 2: a generational pitcher. I've I've never seen have you seen
- 23:11Speaker 2: a fastball move like that? Off beat? So it's insane.
- 23:17Speaker 2: But the Mets are stacked, but we're five games underneath them,
- 23:20Speaker 2: and we just we were just two games over them.
- 23:23Speaker 2: It's it's baseball, so it's all flu Yeah, it is,
- 23:28Speaker 2: like I said, and we'll get We'll play the Dodgers
- 23:32Speaker 2: again again. The Cubs are the second best team in
- 23:35Speaker 2: Nash League, and we just took two out of three. Yeah,
- 23:37Speaker 2: so I have no doubt that they're gonna pick it
- 23:41Speaker 2: up again here. And then they're gonna ship the bed
- 23:43Speaker 2: at the end of June and then kill at the
- 23:46Speaker 2: beginning of July, and then the All Star break will
- 23:49Speaker 2: come and then they'll suck after that. We've already seen
- 23:53Speaker 2: this before. I think because of some of the little
- 23:56Speaker 2: nagging injuries because they are older, that's going to start
- 23:59Speaker 2: to pile up. Possibly you're gonna have to make some
- 24:01Speaker 2: like like I said, some supplementary complimentary moves, either from
- 24:05Speaker 2: the minors or from like other teams, because they these
- 24:08Speaker 2: are I'm afraid these might start piling up, those a
- 24:11Speaker 2: little nagging injuries, and all of a sudden, you know,
- 24:14Speaker 2: you know, Rojas is leading off the leading order.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Nobody wants that, No Jesus, all right, let us know

- 25:31Speaker 1: to take that break now, and when we come back,
- 25:34Speaker 1: we're gonna get into some sixers talk. We're gonna talk
- 25:37Speaker 1: about Jeffrey Lurie making a fifty million dollar donation to
- 25:42Speaker 1: something that has really never been done before. And then
- 25:46Speaker 1: we've got some flyers talk coming to you. Stick around,
- 25:49Speaker 1: we'll be right back. All right, we are back, and
- 25:53Speaker 1: now let's dive into a story that came through on
- 25:58Speaker 1: many of our social media feeds today, and it was
- 26:01Speaker 1: the fact that Jeffrey Lurie and I genuinely think that
- 26:06Speaker 1: he could be he could be the most community minded
- 26:10Speaker 1: owner in the NFL. Eric it was announced that the
- 26:15Speaker 1: Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania is now opening because of the
- 26:19Speaker 1: Lori family, the Lori Autism Institute, because of a fifty
- 26:23Speaker 1: million dollar gift from Jeffrey Lourie and his family. It's
- 26:27Speaker 1: the first of its kind, which aims to be a
- 26:30Speaker 1: global hub for autism research and care. It's the single
- 26:35Speaker 1: largest donation to a US academic medical center focused on
- 26:38Speaker 1: autism research and care. When I read this, dude, like,
- 26:42Speaker 1: I was like, so taken aback, And I think I
- 26:45Speaker 1: was taken aback by it because I think this is
- 26:48Speaker 1: the first time and I'm not meaning to be political
- 26:52Speaker 1: with folks or anything, but it's the first time that
- 26:55Speaker 1: we are seeing since the major, major, major cuts from
- 26:59Speaker 1: the National Instatude of Health, that we are seeing such
- 27:03Speaker 1: a large donation to scientific research in the medical community,
- 27:09Speaker 1: not just with regard to autism, but just in general.
- 27:12Speaker 1: It's like one of the largest donations that has been
- 27:14Speaker 1: made here in the United States for medical research, medical care,
- 27:19Speaker 1: and it's something I think that's going to be needed
- 27:23Speaker 1: more in the future because of some of the cuts
- 27:25Speaker 1: that have come from the federal government. Unfortunately, one of
- 27:27Speaker 1: our guests here, I'm not going to say who it is,
- 27:29Speaker 1: one of our guests that have been on the show before.
- 27:31Speaker 1: She was a scientist at the NIH lost her job.
- 27:35Speaker 1: She was there for ten years. She was a scientist
- 27:38Speaker 1: working on working on a lot of good stuff. I'll
- 27:42Speaker 1: say that. So that being said, like Jeffrey Lurie doing
- 27:46Speaker 1: something like this, you didn't have to do it. You know,
- 27:50Speaker 1: we are living in a world where we're following what
- 27:52Speaker 1: billionaires are doing all the time. Eric, We're following what
- 27:55Speaker 1: millionaires do with their money, their power, their influence, and
- 28:00Speaker 1: Jeffrey Lurie decides to do something like this. Yeah, the
- 28:02Speaker 1: guy's rich, has a ton of money, he's a billionaire himself.
- 28:06Speaker 1: But the fact that he was able to do this
- 28:08Speaker 1: and leave his mark and will be leaving his mark
- 28:11Speaker 1: in this way, I think it's absolutely phenomenal. I think
- 28:14Speaker 1: it's fantastic. And I'm hoping other rich folks out there,
- 28:18Speaker 1: other billionaires, are going to do the same thing. I
- 28:20Speaker 1: don't know, what did you think when you first saw
- 28:23Speaker 1: this come over your feed?
- 28:26Speaker 2: Don't hold your breath through other billionaires to do this.
- 28:28Speaker 2: I mean, I could go off in an acid tongue
- 28:33Speaker 2: vitriolic rant right now about everything you just talked about,
- 28:38Speaker 2: but I'm going to focus on the good aspect of
- 28:40Speaker 2: this story. But you're right. I mean, I'm just gonna
- 28:46Speaker 2: say not to get too political. I'll be political, like
- 28:49Speaker 2: you know, in light of the current administration, like this is.
- 28:52Speaker 2: I think this is the future of clinical research until
- 28:55Speaker 2: something gets something changes. I don't know what that change
- 28:58Speaker 2: would be, but there's there's This is just a great story.
- 29:06Speaker 2: It's super local to the city because it's you know,
- 29:08Speaker 2: part of chop And and it really is like a
- 29:13Speaker 2: great cause, you know, one of the like autism, like
- 29:19Speaker 2: you know, when we were younger, it existed, but you
- 29:23Speaker 2: know the kids that had it when you were in school,
- 29:25Speaker 2: like that kid's just weird, Like like we didn't know
- 29:28Speaker 2: what that We didn't know what it was, you know
- 29:30Speaker 2: what I mean. And even in the nineties, two thousands,
- 29:33Speaker 2: it was still kind of like like I think by
- 29:36Speaker 2: the twenty tens, it was more Okay, yes we have
- 29:39Speaker 2: the stickers, we have the marches, that kind of stuff,
- 29:43Speaker 2: you know, to make money for research, but like it
- 29:47Speaker 2: not only is great for for chop, for the city
- 29:49Speaker 2: and for autism, but like also just kind of shining
- 29:52Speaker 2: a light on what is still it's it's becoming more
- 29:57Speaker 2: and more abundant, that's for sure, you know, as people
- 30:00Speaker 2: start to understand the spectrum and everything. But as far
- 30:04Speaker 2: as Jeffrey Lori goes, he's probably one of the most
- 30:07Speaker 2: generous owners in Philly sports history. I think Ed Snyder
- 30:12Speaker 2: also was in that same category. He was he was
- 30:15Speaker 2: really really playing in his ground and he was from Philly,
- 30:18Speaker 2: went to Gerard College, like he you know, he was
- 30:21Speaker 2: born and raised there, and you know he really planted
- 30:23Speaker 2: his flag in Philly and did a lot of good
- 30:25Speaker 2: for the city. Can I just say I was trying
- 30:29Speaker 2: to think of other owners that were the opposite of that.
- 30:33Speaker 2: And the first two names that came to Norman Brayman,
- 30:36Speaker 2: the old Beagles owner who lived in France basically didn't
- 30:40Speaker 2: even come to Philadelphia. And then Harold Harold Katz was
- 30:45Speaker 2: the SITU owner in the eighties early nineties, and he
- 30:48Speaker 2: was just kind of a shitty person he saw too. Yes, yeah,
- 30:55Speaker 2: but those were two names I thought of him, like, yeah,
- 30:57Speaker 2: I don't think they care about the city at all.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Oh yeah, but yeah, but LI think.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Learning Sinner are the two best. And like again, there's
- 31:04Speaker 2: it's a great story. And in light of like people
- 31:07Speaker 2: losing their jobs and research funding being pulled, it's like,
- 31:09Speaker 2: thank god, somebody's stepping up because I don't know who
- 31:12Speaker 2: else is going to do it.
- 31:13Speaker 1: Because how many years at this point have has cancer
- 31:17Speaker 1: research been going on? Right, decades decades decades and decades
- 31:22Speaker 1: that cancer research has been going on. I have a
- 31:24Speaker 1: feeling we're going to see the same thing when it
- 31:26Speaker 1: comes to autism research as well. I feel like we've
- 31:28Speaker 1: just been learning about it, like you said, you know,
- 31:31Speaker 1: ten years ago, just started getting more of a feel
- 31:34Speaker 1: for it in a way of what it is, how
- 31:37Speaker 1: prevalent it is. I have a wife who's an elementary
- 31:40Speaker 1: school counselor, and she works with autistic children all the time,
- 31:44Speaker 1: and she's still continuing to learn various aspects of what
- 31:48Speaker 1: autism is and how to how kids and families live
- 31:53Speaker 1: with it in a way. And it's something I think
- 31:56Speaker 1: that's going to be in terms of the research, in
- 31:59Speaker 1: terms of the care, what we've done with cancer research,
- 32:02Speaker 1: It's going to take time to understand it more, you know, anyway,
- 32:08Speaker 1: don't mean the pontificate.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Well too quick afterthoughts. I just had one just in
- 32:16Speaker 2: I've been coaching youth sports for like eleven years now,
- 32:20Speaker 2: and no one ever, you spend a lot of time
- 32:23Speaker 2: with these kids, and no parent ever comes to you
- 32:27Speaker 2: and says, my child might be on the spectrum or
- 32:30Speaker 2: is on the spectrum, or gives you any background. You
- 32:33Speaker 2: kind of have to learn on your own. And I
- 32:35Speaker 2: don't know any Like I know enough to be able
- 32:39Speaker 2: to kind of recognize it a little bit and kind
- 32:42Speaker 2: of help that kid along as best I can be
- 32:44Speaker 2: a little more patient and like get them to talk
- 32:47Speaker 2: a little more if they want to. And like, it's
- 32:52Speaker 2: still a mystery to that point where like and to
- 32:56Speaker 2: the point where like parents aren't going to just bring
- 32:58Speaker 2: it up unless unless there's like a potential issue or something.
- 33:04Speaker 2: So I'm out there flying blind coaching youth kids, like
- 33:08Speaker 2: just do it, Like do I talk to this kid?
- 33:11Speaker 3: More?
- 33:11Speaker 2: Like like even I don't know, I do my best,
- 33:14Speaker 2: but like and then we're you talked about cancer. It
- 33:17Speaker 2: was a good point in just being like we're still
- 33:19Speaker 2: like in the infancy of understanding what it even is.
- 33:22Speaker 2: I think cancer research was probably about this the same
- 33:25Speaker 2: thing years and years ago, where like people are like,
- 33:27Speaker 2: I think bacon gives you cancer, like nobody knew at
- 33:30Speaker 2: a certain point in history, and I think we're still
- 33:33Speaker 2: at the conspiracy theory level, and not to get I
- 33:36Speaker 2: don't want to get political again, but like people are like, well,
- 33:39Speaker 2: the vaccines cause it, right?
- 33:41Speaker 1: Do they do we know that?
- 33:44Speaker 2: Like does does something else cause it? Smoking? With smoking
- 33:48Speaker 2: when you're pregnant? Does that cause Like I don't, I
- 33:49Speaker 2: don't know. I don't think anybody fucking knows, right, And
- 33:53Speaker 2: it's like the dumbing down I'm gonna stop soon, but
- 33:57Speaker 2: the dumbing down of society in this country and just
- 34:01Speaker 2: throwing crazy conspiracy theories or wacky thoughts and stuff, being
- 34:04Speaker 2: like I don't understand it, so I'm just gonna get
- 34:06Speaker 2: how about we pay the fucking money to understand it
- 34:09Speaker 2: and research it so we can maybe something down the
- 34:11Speaker 2: road instead of Yeah, so ah science, all right, we
- 34:19Speaker 2: gotta stop.
- 34:19Speaker 1: I'm gonna go off for yeah, we will stop, all right.
- 34:22Speaker 1: I took the banner off. Okay, I took the banner off.
- 34:24Speaker 1: We will stop right now at this point here, let's
- 34:27Speaker 1: move on hot dogs cause cancer.
- 34:30Speaker 2: Well they probably do actually thinking about it.
- 34:32Speaker 1: Oh my god, that I'm dying next week.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Eric, sit down, you have glizzy cancer.
- 34:42Speaker 1: God. Oh if hot dogs give cancer, then just give
- 34:47Speaker 1: it to me now, yeah, give it.
- 34:49Speaker 2: By the way, so I had I had, I had
- 34:52Speaker 2: Vinnie and our buddy Mason, he's on. Both play basketball
- 34:55Speaker 2: and I I play goofy with. I know, I know
- 34:58Speaker 2: some of today's terms term analogy that the kids use
- 35:02Speaker 2: and glazing givity yeah gibbty riz those I understand. But
- 35:08Speaker 2: glaze glazing they were saying it tonight at practice, and
- 35:11Speaker 2: I kind of know what it is, but I find
- 35:13Speaker 2: the car. I'm like okay, and I was like, well,
- 35:16Speaker 2: you guys might glaze, but I like glizzing, And they're like,
- 35:19Speaker 2: what like glizz and hot dogs Lizzies, and they're like,
- 35:26Speaker 2: oh my god, you're so lame. Like I get that
- 35:29Speaker 2: from the.
- 35:30Speaker 1: Twins too, Michelle, and I get that from the twin.
- 35:32Speaker 1: I know, I know a lot more of those of
- 35:35Speaker 1: today's terms, more so than than my wife Michelle. She
- 35:40Speaker 1: just she she works in an elementary school and and
- 35:43Speaker 1: I'm on social media throughout the course of the day.
- 35:45Speaker 1: I get it a little bit more than she does.
- 35:47Speaker 1: But boy, they brutalize her. They're like seriously with the
- 35:52Speaker 1: sigma stuff, and or even with the one you know,
- 35:56Speaker 1: it's like she's like, I don't know, and mom, you're
- 35:59Speaker 1: so lame.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Oh gosh, okay, here's the thing. But then these kids
- 36:04Speaker 2: don't know the words that those words derived from.
- 36:07Speaker 1: There you go.
- 36:08Speaker 2: Yes, So I was explaining riz to them. Yes, they
- 36:11Speaker 2: were like, how did you figure out what rizzz? I'm like, well,
- 36:13Speaker 2: it sure for charismasma yeah, And they're like, what's charisma.
- 36:16Speaker 2: I'm like, oh my god, yes, I was like, charisma
- 36:20Speaker 2: is like if you're you have game, like you're you're charming,
- 36:23Speaker 2: you're debit like that kind of thing, like oh riz,
- 36:27Speaker 2: oh yeah yeah. And then glazing I'm like they explained
- 36:30Speaker 2: to me. I'm like, oh, you're being sarcastic. They're like,
- 36:32Speaker 2: what's sarcasm? Oh God, holy crap, dude, we're doing.
- 36:38Speaker 1: I have faith in the younger generation.
- 36:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Spend too much time with them to know that I
- 36:46Speaker 2: don't have.
- 36:49Speaker 1: Well, I don't know if we're gonna have faith or not.
- 36:51Speaker 1: In the Philadelphia seventy six draft. How do you like
- 36:55Speaker 1: that segue? What do you think? How do you like them? Apples?
- 37:00Speaker 1: How about it?
- 37:04Speaker 2: Oh damn?
- 37:06Speaker 1: Maybe Jesus shit. Where do we go from here? Seventy
- 37:17Speaker 1: six ers talk, yes, discussion about this upcoming NBA draft,
- 37:23Speaker 1: and I mean there are some guys heading up the board,
- 37:27Speaker 1: other guys who are falling. Ace Bailey at this point
- 37:31Speaker 1: again as we're recording this on June eleventh, apparently he
- 37:34Speaker 1: is just falling down the boards. VJ. Edgecombe going up
- 37:39Speaker 1: the board here at this point, and also Trey Johnson
- 37:42Speaker 1: as well. Eric, you are the basketball guy here on
- 37:46Speaker 1: this podcast. We had a great show. If you want
- 37:48Speaker 1: to go back, whether you're watching on YouTube or go
- 37:52Speaker 1: back into the podcast feed. On our table talk interview
- 37:55Speaker 1: show this week, Harrison Grimm from Libertyballers dot Com came on,
- 37:59Speaker 1: we got into some of these prospects and what this
- 38:02Speaker 1: Sixers offseason has been looking like and with the future
- 38:05Speaker 1: may hold for this team. But man, this number three
- 38:08Speaker 1: pick is gonna be really interesting. At this point, my
- 38:12Speaker 1: gut is telling my gut is telling me Daryl Moury
- 38:16Speaker 1: and company in this front office are gonna stay. You
- 38:20Speaker 1: may think differently, They're gonna stay and it and VJ.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Edgecomb is probably going to be the pick. That's That's
- 38:28Speaker 1: what I'm thinking here at this point. You know what,
- 38:31Speaker 1: You're not bringing Tyrese Maxi in for the meeting, if
- 38:34Speaker 1: it's if, if it's just like a whatever type of meeting,
- 38:38Speaker 1: like I feel like when they eventually meet with Ace Bailey,
- 38:40Speaker 1: because they still, as of us recording this, have not
- 38:42Speaker 1: set up that meeting. Reporters haven't been told if and
- 38:46Speaker 1: when it's gonna be set up. But they Edgecomb is
- 38:50Speaker 1: somebody that they particular I think they're gonna want on
- 38:53Speaker 1: this team. So is he the guy? Is he gonna
- 38:57Speaker 1: be the pick for the Sixers? I'm thinking it's a
- 38:59Speaker 1: really good pot disability here. What are your thoughts? What
- 39:01Speaker 1: are you thinking here? You're the basketball guy.
- 39:04Speaker 2: I'll preface with I'm going to go off of what
- 39:08Speaker 2: I think the Sixers front office is thinking. And well,
- 39:13Speaker 2: there's there's two sides to it, right, Okay, two things
- 39:15Speaker 2: are possibly thinking One our timeline is based on Joel
- 39:20Speaker 2: Embiid and Paul George, and that's that's the timeline we
- 39:23Speaker 2: need to be thinking about in the off season, in
- 39:26Speaker 2: particularly this third the third pick of the draft. Right,
- 39:29Speaker 2: so if if that's their thinking, that that that's the
- 39:33Speaker 2: pathway they want to go, they have a two year window,
- 39:36Speaker 2: so we need to either use this third pick for
- 39:40Speaker 2: someone that's ready to go. Now that excludes as Bailey
- 39:43Speaker 2: altogether in my opinion. Yep, he's I don't like anything
- 39:48Speaker 2: I've heard about this kid coming out and nothing about
- 39:51Speaker 2: like behavior. It's he was listed to six', ten he's
- 39:54Speaker 2: measured out of six 's. Eight not special at. All
- 39:58Speaker 2: shooting in particularly is not not not. Incredible his defense
- 40:03Speaker 2: was not great in. College not to say that it
- 40:06Speaker 2: won't come down the, Road but LIKE i, said if,
- 40:08Speaker 2: that if they're if in their mind the path the,
- 40:10Speaker 2: road the roadmap for them is like two three or.
- 40:13Speaker 2: Window because your stars stars ye are are you know
- 40:18Speaker 2: a little? Older that that tells you that kid's out,
- 40:21Speaker 2: right so that kind of leaves you With so if
- 40:23Speaker 2: they do keep the third, PICK i think they go
- 40:26Speaker 2: with like A Trey johnson Or, EDGECOMBE i think for,
- 40:28Speaker 2: sure because those are guys that can come in right
- 40:30Speaker 2: away score buckets for you and kind of like you
- 40:35Speaker 2: can kind of plug Edge comb in next To maxie
- 40:37Speaker 2: because he can play, defense or he can go in
- 40:40Speaker 2: For maxie and and and be kind of the perimeter
- 40:44Speaker 2: shot or you, know playmaker or or candle the. Ball
- 40:48Speaker 2: Have jereed mccainn out there for shooting And Trey johnson
- 40:51Speaker 2: come in and just. SCORE i Like Trey johnson a.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Lot if they keep the third, Pick i'm I'm I'M
- 40:56Speaker 2: i like. Him if they take, Him i'm. Okay if
- 40:58Speaker 2: they take Edge, Comb i'm okay to Edge. Combe kind
- 41:01Speaker 2: of he's kind of what THE nba is, now you,
- 41:04Speaker 2: know big solid athletic guards that can score like that's you,
- 41:09Speaker 2: Know johnson's a good shooting. Guard. Too but besides, that
- 41:13Speaker 2: if but one of my fears is though if if
- 41:16Speaker 2: they're along the same line of, thinking if they decide
- 41:18Speaker 2: that the window is at two to three years and
- 41:22Speaker 2: we're we're going to draft or make moves that that
- 41:25Speaker 2: kind of go along with our superstars only having like
- 41:28Speaker 2: two to three year. Window i'm afraid they're going to
- 41:31Speaker 2: trade the pick along with a bad contract for a
- 41:34Speaker 2: more veteran, player say LIKE lori market and for The.
- 41:37Speaker 1: Jazz right.
- 41:39Speaker 2: The jazz missed out On Cooper. FLAG i think they
- 41:41Speaker 2: thought they were going to get him at the top.
- 41:43Speaker 2: Pick they landed number, five which sucks ass for. Them
- 41:47Speaker 2: that team's going. NOWHERE lorii marketing doesn't help. Them why
- 41:51Speaker 2: wouldn't they offload him third pickt and for the third
- 41:58Speaker 2: pick and one of our bad. Contracts if that Contracts Paul,
- 42:01Speaker 2: george it's. Interesting but then the weird the fit between
- 42:04Speaker 2: market and beads. Weird but LIKE i just, Think i'm
- 42:08Speaker 2: Just i'm fearful that Maybe morey thinks he has a
- 42:11Speaker 2: small window of opportunity as well as THE gm and
- 42:14Speaker 2: is going to use that third picks as a as
- 42:17Speaker 2: a vetting chip to get to get something else that
- 42:21Speaker 2: he wants to fit the timeline of a more veteran.
- 42:24Speaker 2: TEAM i hope they just sit there and Take johnson Or.
- 42:27Speaker 2: VEGECOMBE i want no part of. Its bailey don't like
- 42:29Speaker 2: anything about That, okay but this this, TEAM i have
- 42:33Speaker 2: no idea if this team is going to do, it
- 42:34Speaker 2: BUT i think if they keep the, pick it's gonna
- 42:36Speaker 2: be one of those.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Two let's go back to the draft lottery for just
- 42:41Speaker 1: a second before we wrap up this segment. Here let's
- 42:44Speaker 1: go back to the draft. Lottery and it was The
- 42:49Speaker 1: it was the body language Of Darryl morey when they
- 42:53Speaker 1: got the number three overall, pick when that landed to
- 42:56Speaker 1: them and he took his head and put it down
- 43:00Speaker 1: on the. Table do you remember, that, like oh my,
- 43:02Speaker 1: god this actually happened for, Us like that body language.
- 43:07Speaker 1: There it's not gonna tell, us of, course who the
- 43:09Speaker 1: pick is going to, be but it leads me to
- 43:11Speaker 1: believe that, young a young talent Like edgecombe or if
- 43:19Speaker 1: it or if it happens to Be Tray johnson as,
- 43:21Speaker 1: well that that is what was. Wanted that that opportunity
- 43:27Speaker 1: of having somebody, young somebody that could potentially be part
- 43:31Speaker 1: of the future after the window of opportunity as, well
- 43:35Speaker 1: is something that they would. Want that body language From Darryl,
- 43:38Speaker 1: MOREY i, thought spoke volumes in terms of like what
- 43:41Speaker 1: they would want to do with the, pick in terms
- 43:44Speaker 1: of like staying. PUT i just don't think they're going
- 43:47Speaker 1: to trade it based on that body. Language may sound,
- 43:49Speaker 1: hokey BUT i just think based on that body language
- 43:52Speaker 1: from the draft, lottery they're gonna stay right at. Three
- 43:56Speaker 1: but do you think maybe that it was such a
- 43:58Speaker 1: long shit season and they had the tank almost like
- 44:01Speaker 1: two thirds of, It, yeah that it was a feeling
- 44:03Speaker 1: of relief in the moment because it was number three
- 44:05Speaker 1: and not they didn't lose the pick like that that
- 44:08Speaker 1: was the worst case, scenario, right.
- 44:10Speaker 2: Yep so they got three and it was just like a,
- 44:13Speaker 2: oh thank. God, Yeah but maybe an hour later was he, like,
- 44:18Speaker 2: god damn when you get the top? Pick BECAUSE i
- 44:20Speaker 2: THINK i think get the top, pick that's an easy.
- 44:22Speaker 2: Decision you Take Cooper Flag. YEP i think even number
- 44:25Speaker 2: two is an easy. Decision where you take the Sorry
- 44:29Speaker 2: i'm drawing a Plank parker, Kid, yeah, yeah where you
- 44:33Speaker 2: Take Dylan. HARPER i think three down is more like.
- 44:37Speaker 2: Man and now he has time to think about, it
- 44:40Speaker 2: and it's, like IF i can use the third pick
- 44:44Speaker 2: to get rid of this Disastrous Paul george, CONTRACT i
- 44:47Speaker 2: think he might come back and actually be good this.
- 44:48Speaker 2: Year it's totally. Possible it's on the. Table, yeah he
- 44:53Speaker 2: had one down. Year MAYBE i don't, know but like
- 44:56Speaker 2: if his thinking is that was a, MISTAKE i have
- 44:59Speaker 2: a chance here because of the third, pick to offload
- 45:01Speaker 2: that piece of shit contract to bring in a kid
- 45:04Speaker 2: like Market i'm just saying marketing because he's like the
- 45:06Speaker 2: Perfect he's like twenty, seven he scores. Points he has
- 45:10Speaker 2: a big, contract because you're gonna have to trade for
- 45:12Speaker 2: two big, contracts, Right, yeah was that his trade? Chip
- 45:17Speaker 2: whereas if he got the number six, PICK i don't
- 45:21Speaker 2: think maybe The jazz want to make a move at that,
- 45:23Speaker 2: point but because maybe they're desperate, now maybe because even
- 45:27Speaker 2: The hornets might be desperate at, four like teams that
- 45:29Speaker 2: thought they're gonna be in the top, three maybe even The. Wizards,
- 45:32Speaker 2: right maybe that third pick to him was get out
- 45:36Speaker 2: of jail free card in terms of, like, OH i
- 45:39Speaker 2: can just pick a good player, here OR i can
- 45:42Speaker 2: use it to get off of The george contract and
- 45:46Speaker 2: maybe expand my window a little bit with, embiid WITH
- 45:50Speaker 2: maxi with a player that committed and play right. AWAY
- 45:54Speaker 2: i don't. Know i'm not sure what they're gonna, do
- 45:56Speaker 2: BUT i think if they do keep, It Edgecomben johnson
- 45:59Speaker 2: the only two options at this. Point, YEAH i think so.
- 46:02Speaker 1: TOO i think so.
- 46:03Speaker 2: Too it's gonna be players that can play right. Now,
- 46:06Speaker 2: yeah score absolutely.
- 46:07Speaker 1: And they both. Can Both Ken edgecomb And johnson can
- 46:10Speaker 1: absolutely do that for. Sure all, right, Buddy i'm gonna
- 46:13Speaker 1: let your head out of here before we uh go
- 46:16Speaker 1: to the break, here before we get to what we're
- 46:18Speaker 1: thrown down on the table With charlie O'Connor and Some flyers.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Talk you got, anything got anything for us? Here any
- 46:24Speaker 1: final thoughts BEFORE i let your head out?
- 46:26Speaker 2: Here? Yeah here my draft, Guide, Uh Trey johnson has
- 46:30Speaker 2: a sigma. Yeah And edgecombe riz?
- 46:36Speaker 1: Yo he got that? Riz?
- 46:38Speaker 2: Yes, yeah thank.
- 46:42Speaker 1: GOD i love. It all, right, folks gotta take a
- 46:44Speaker 1: break and when we come, back lots Of flyers talk
- 46:48Speaker 1: and pre draft talk come in your way.
- 46:52Speaker 2: And now on the table.
- 46:56Speaker 1: And joining us this week to get into This flyers
- 47:00Speaker 1: offseason and specifically this UPCOMING nhl draft and what we
- 47:03Speaker 1: are expecting from The Philadelphia flyers front, Office Danny brier
- 47:06Speaker 1: and company with regard to The flyers. Draft we have
- 47:10Speaker 1: from PHL Y PHL Y sports and they do such
- 47:15Speaker 1: a great. Job we've got the one and Only charlie.
- 47:17Speaker 1: O'Connor how you, doing, Buddy.
- 47:19Speaker 2: Hey it's good to be.
- 47:20Speaker 1: Here it's great to see. You appreciate you taking the, time.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Buddy and look as we are gearing up for this draft,
- 47:28Speaker 1: Here i've really been reflecting and a lot of us,
- 47:31Speaker 1: FANS i, think have been reflecting on and assessing what
- 47:34Speaker 1: kind of general Manager danny brier really has been to
- 47:38Speaker 1: This flyers organization and to the. Team he's made some
- 47:41Speaker 1: very good decisions since you, know during this early, tenure
- 47:46Speaker 1: and he's made some necessary decisions in terms of the
- 47:49Speaker 1: rebuild and the restructure. Here, overall there hasn't been too
- 47:53Speaker 1: too much negativity surrounding his short. Tenure, So, Charlie i'm
- 47:57Speaker 1: wondering to get this conversation started. Here what do you
- 48:00Speaker 1: think has been the most consequential decision That Danny briere
- 48:04Speaker 1: has made thus far during his tenure AS gm of
- 48:08Speaker 1: This flyers franchise that has really helped propel The flyers
- 48:12Speaker 1: perhaps to another, level or that may propel them to another.
- 48:16Speaker 1: Level what are your thoughts?
- 48:17Speaker 3: Here, well it's an interesting question because there is one
- 48:21Speaker 3: answer that is the clear cut, answer but it's tough
- 48:27Speaker 3: to say that that should be the answer to that
- 48:28Speaker 3: question because it just it was less a decision For
- 48:32Speaker 3: brier and more decision for the. Organization like the answer
- 48:35Speaker 3: to this question is the drafting Of Mavee mishkov in
- 48:38Speaker 3: twenty twenty, three right at number, Seven like that is
- 48:40Speaker 3: the most. Consequential that is the one that has the
- 48:43Speaker 3: potential to give The flyers the star, level true top
- 48:46Speaker 3: of the lineup guy that they need to have any
- 48:49Speaker 3: chance of this rebuild. Working and The flyers took the,
- 48:53Speaker 3: plunge made the, pick got him to come over. Here
- 48:55Speaker 3: everything so far is Going we're going to play on that.
- 48:58Speaker 2: Front so.
- 48:58Speaker 3: Consequential that is the most consequential because if you don't Have,
- 49:01Speaker 3: nichekoff nobody is excited about this team to the way
- 49:04Speaker 3: that they clearly are because The flyers have Mave mischoff
- 49:08Speaker 3: and it gives the team and more, importantly the fans
- 49:12Speaker 3: a guy they can dream, on as you, know being
- 49:15Speaker 3: not saying as, good but like you, know the The
- 49:17Speaker 3: nathan McKinnon of The, flyers and they go to keep
- 49:19Speaker 3: A kucher off of The, flyers you, know the guy
- 49:21Speaker 3: who is the, star the guy who you can put
- 49:24Speaker 3: up against any other star player in the league and be, like,
- 49:26Speaker 3: yeah our guy's real. Good he's on that, level, Right
- 49:28Speaker 3: so that's the most. Consequential but that was less a
- 49:33Speaker 3: decision and more a you better do it right as
- 49:36Speaker 3: long as you have approval from your, owner as long
- 49:38Speaker 3: as you have approval From, comcast which clearly he. Got
- 49:42Speaker 3: but that's more of a no brainer than A, wow
- 49:45Speaker 3: what a great move By danny if you're talking about
- 49:47Speaker 3: consequential moves that were not, like, hey this great player
- 49:51Speaker 3: fell into your, lap and now you just have to
- 49:52Speaker 3: convince the rest of the organization that we should take
- 49:55Speaker 3: the plunge on this risk because it's a worthwhile. RISK
- 49:58Speaker 3: i think the most consequential trade in terms of or
- 50:01Speaker 3: consequential move it is a trade that he's made as
- 50:04Speaker 3: general manager is The Ivan provoff trade because if.
- 50:07Speaker 1: You look at what that.
- 50:10Speaker 3: Produced, so number, one you get a first round pick
- 50:16Speaker 3: back for. Him, okay so you get you get the
- 50:18Speaker 3: twenty second overall pick in twenty twenty three that turns
- 50:21Speaker 3: Into Oliver. Bonk he's still. Coming they like him a.
- 50:23Speaker 3: Lot you also Get Sean walker in the. Deal Sean
- 50:27Speaker 3: walker you turn into another first round Pickp so now
- 50:31Speaker 3: you've got two first round, picks rivn pro Rof Hellgate
- 50:34Speaker 3: grands has played in THE. Nhl, okay he might make
- 50:38Speaker 3: the team out of camp next. YEAR i don't think
- 50:40Speaker 3: he's gonna be an impact, guy but he could be
- 50:42Speaker 3: a QUALITY nhl right shot defenseman with size you can
- 50:45Speaker 3: skate a, bit maybe be a decent enough third pair of.
- 50:47Speaker 3: Defenseman now you've got three potential. Assets you've got another
- 50:51Speaker 3: second round pick coming in this draft From columbus that
- 50:54Speaker 3: you got in that deal as. Well so you're talking
- 50:56Speaker 3: about a trade that in, theory could bring you, back you,
- 51:00Speaker 3: know somewhere between two and four players that helped you
- 51:05Speaker 3: spark the. Rebuild, yes you, know depending on How bonk
- 51:08Speaker 3: plays plays. Out its depending upon how the you, know
- 51:11Speaker 3: how the pick goes that they got in The Sean walker,
- 51:13Speaker 3: deal how that plays out this. Year and then they
- 51:15Speaker 3: have the two the two seconds they, have they have
- 51:20Speaker 3: the one that they got or, no not the two,
- 51:21Speaker 3: seconds but they have the one they got in, clumps
- 51:23Speaker 3: and then they got Hell Ga. Gronz that's four possible
- 51:25Speaker 3: assets that could be quality assets for this rebuilt and
- 51:27Speaker 3: that all came in one. Trade so if we're talking
- 51:29Speaker 3: about like tray that was difficult to pull, off or
- 51:33Speaker 3: move that was difficult to pull, off that was most.
- 51:35Speaker 1: Consequential it's the Prover off.
- 51:36Speaker 3: Deal if you're talking about just most consequential, period it's
- 51:40Speaker 3: taking me.
- 51:40Speaker 1: Trump it really is amazing how we haven't necessarily seen
- 51:43Speaker 1: as much negativity With Danny Bree Aaron company as we
- 51:46Speaker 1: did With Chuck. Fletcher AND i guess that's maybe not
- 51:49Speaker 1: saying a lot in terms of what The Chuck fletcher regime,
- 51:51Speaker 1: Was BUT i think a lot of us are VERY
- 51:56Speaker 1: i hesitate to use word, happy BUT i think maybe
- 51:59Speaker 1: pleased as to where things are right now and what
- 52:02Speaker 1: things could be with this team and this franchise moving.
- 52:06Speaker 1: Forward but as we're talking, about you, know we're talking
- 52:09Speaker 1: about these consequential decisions By Danny Brier, charlie who he
- 52:14Speaker 1: takes at number six overall in the UPCOMING Nhl, draft
- 52:18Speaker 1: or however he decides to move around in the first,
- 52:21Speaker 1: draft is going to be consequential to the future of
- 52:24Speaker 1: This flyers. Team last week we were talking with our
- 52:27Speaker 1: Friend Matteline campbell about. This we've Had Kelly hinkel on
- 52:31Speaker 1: your friend as, well to talk about just the consequential
- 52:34Speaker 1: aspect of what this draft is right, here you, know
- 52:37Speaker 1: you guys and ladies over AT. Phl Why i've been
- 52:40Speaker 1: talking about all the various directions that the front office
- 52:43Speaker 1: may go with this. Draft what is the most logical
- 52:48Speaker 1: direction they could go in in terms of the long
- 52:51Speaker 1: term here from what you have assessed so, Far charlie and.
- 52:54Speaker 3: Why, WELL i, mean if we're talking about logical, DIRECTION
- 52:58Speaker 3: i don't necessarily even want to point it specific players
- 53:01Speaker 3: because we're all gonna have our guy who right want
- 53:04Speaker 3: The flyers to. Take and also a lot of the
- 53:06Speaker 3: decision is going to be made for The flyers given
- 53:08Speaker 3: the way the draft shapes up at the top of the,
- 53:11Speaker 3: draft where you have you, Know Matthew, Schaffer Michael mesa
- 53:13Speaker 3: probably gone one, two and then you have a group
- 53:15Speaker 3: before you Have Anton, Frondell caleb Dan, Oyer James hagen's a.
- 53:20Speaker 3: Portomartone you have a group of four that is generally
- 53:23Speaker 3: accepted to be the next. Group The flyers pick at.
- 53:25Speaker 3: Six so in, theory it would just be, well they
- 53:28Speaker 3: would just take whoever's. Left it's not like they can
- 53:30Speaker 3: choose between that. Group to, me if we're talking about
- 53:33Speaker 3: you know, what what's the most logical. Direction there was
- 53:37Speaker 3: logical direction for The flyers with the six pick is
- 53:40Speaker 3: to take the swing on, skill, right is don't be
- 53:43Speaker 3: sucked in, to you, know taking a guy who you
- 53:47Speaker 3: know isn't going to be as good as some of
- 53:50Speaker 3: the you, know or maybe like doesn't have the ceiling
- 53:52Speaker 3: as some of the other guys who are. Available but,
- 53:54Speaker 3: man you, know we just want that physicality or we
- 53:57Speaker 3: need that. Size we need to fill a perceive gap
- 54:00Speaker 3: in our talent.
- 54:02Speaker 2: Book we need a.
- 54:02Speaker 3: Center, like, yes they do absolutely need a. Center and
- 54:06Speaker 3: that's something That flyers fans And i'll probably talk about
- 54:08Speaker 3: this a little. Bit some mean they should be hoping
- 54:10Speaker 3: for The flyers to in a best case scenario Address
- 54:13Speaker 3: but If Porter martone is the guy there at six
- 54:17Speaker 3: and he has the highest upside of anybody, AVAILABLE i
- 54:20Speaker 3: don't think The flyers are in position where they can,
- 54:23Speaker 3: say now we're gonna go with the center. Instead because
- 54:26Speaker 3: The flyers right now have one guy In Matve mishkov
- 54:29Speaker 3: who is a true top of the lineup. Superstar still
- 54:33Speaker 3: Young Travis knnecti is there, too but he's in the
- 54:36Speaker 3: back half of his. Twenties you're hoping he aged as,
- 54:38Speaker 3: well but you don't know for, sure this may be
- 54:40Speaker 3: the last time The flyers picked this, high BECAUSE i
- 54:42Speaker 3: do think this Summer briere is going to try to
- 54:45Speaker 3: make some, moves not try to push this team into
- 54:48Speaker 3: the playoff picture, necessarily but he's gonna try to make them.
- 54:50Speaker 3: BETTER i think he's going to try to address, goaltending
- 54:52Speaker 3: AND i Think Rick tockett coming After John. TURTURELL i
- 54:55Speaker 3: think The flyers will be better next. Year so this
- 54:57Speaker 3: is very well can be the last time The flyers
- 54:58Speaker 3: picked this. High this means this is the last time
- 55:01Speaker 3: maybe that they have the opportunity to get a guy
- 55:04Speaker 3: who can, be you, know The superman To Mishkov's, batman
- 55:08Speaker 3: or The, batman The Mishkoff, superman like another guy you
- 55:11Speaker 3: know that The Nicholas baxtrom to His. Ovechkin you're, right
- 55:14Speaker 3: and you can't get sucked into like oh, man you,
- 55:19Speaker 3: know really want this guy who's probably a second liner
- 55:22Speaker 3: because he just has so many qualities we, like, like
- 55:25Speaker 3: you gotta go for the skill because they they're not in,
- 55:28Speaker 3: position they don't have enough high end talent to justify
- 55:33Speaker 3: going for the lower upside. Guy you gotta take the
- 55:35Speaker 3: big swing still and that's the Approach i'd like THE
- 55:38Speaker 3: i Like beer to take BECAUSE i think that they're
- 55:39Speaker 3: not in. Position they're not in position to go.
- 55:42Speaker 2: With a luxury.
- 55:42Speaker 3: Pick they have to go with the guy who is
- 55:45Speaker 3: most likely to be a true top of the line,
- 55:47Speaker 3: up point per game or better type of guy who
- 55:50Speaker 3: can change your.
- 55:50Speaker 1: Franchise it can't be like a Jet lichenko type of,
- 55:53Speaker 1: pick you know WHAT i. Mean it can't be like,
- 55:55Speaker 1: that AND i THINK i think we all know that as. Fans, again,
- 55:58Speaker 1: folks we're talking To charlie o'cann her FROM PHL Y

- 56:29Speaker 3: channel as, WELL PHL Y. Sports Our flyer shows are
- 56:33Speaker 3: all on there and on all the. Channels we have
- 56:35Speaker 3: our podcast as, well So, Spotify Apple, music everything you
- 56:39Speaker 3: can think, of we're on. There we'd love for you
- 56:41Speaker 3: to give us a.
- 56:41Speaker 1: Shot there you, go. Folks AND i will say, this
- 56:44Speaker 1: AND i swear to, GOD i didn't Tell CHARLIE i
- 56:45Speaker 1: was gonna say, this BUT i ended up leaving The
- 56:47Speaker 1: athletic and went over TO. Phl why Because cali, O'Connor,
- 56:51Speaker 1: FOLKS i, did. Ye it's actually never said that on
- 56:54Speaker 1: the podcast, platform BUT i actually subscribed TO phl y
- 56:58Speaker 1: BECAUSE i was, like oh my, god, No charlio, connor
- 57:00Speaker 1: where the hell AM i gonna get my? Flyers where
- 57:02Speaker 1: AM i gonna read about the? Flyers? Now so there you.
- 57:05Speaker 3: Go there are still a lot of really good people
- 57:09Speaker 3: at The athletic. Time, sure but, YES i am very
- 57:11Speaker 3: very glad that you are AT. PHL i. Diehard that
- 57:15Speaker 3: is much.
- 57:15Speaker 2: Appreciated.
- 57:16Speaker 1: Absolutely all, Right, well let's actually get into some of
- 57:19Speaker 1: these prospects here that we're gonna be looking at in
- 57:21Speaker 1: this upcoming. Draft, charlie who might they take there at
- 57:25Speaker 1: six If Danny breer and company decides to stay. There
- 57:29Speaker 1: thoughts On James, HAGGINS i, mean he's being talked about
- 57:33Speaker 1: as one of the best centers possibly in this. Draft
- 57:37Speaker 1: what are your thoughts on him and if you would
- 57:40Speaker 1: be a if you would be that complimentary piece that
- 57:43Speaker 1: we are really looking for on this team in the.
- 57:44Speaker 3: FUTURE i really Like James. HIGGINS i actually. SO i
- 57:49Speaker 3: have him ranked third on my draft. Board, okay he
- 57:52Speaker 3: didn't have as good of a draft season as you
- 57:56Speaker 3: were hoping, for because he had an amazing draft minus
- 57:59Speaker 3: one year with the THE us national team development, program
- 58:01Speaker 3: then killed it at the under Eighteen worlds last. Summer
- 58:04Speaker 3: so like Last April, may, SO i guess late, spring
- 58:07Speaker 3: but it was the. Offseason, FUNCTIONALLY i think everyone was
- 58:11Speaker 3: expecting his first year in college he was going to
- 58:13Speaker 3: light it up the Way Macklin celebriny, did and instead
- 58:16Speaker 3: he was merely a point per game guy as a
- 58:19Speaker 3: seventeen eighteen year, old purely as a freshman in. College
- 58:23Speaker 3: it disappointed a lot of. People they were expecting him
- 58:25Speaker 3: to blow the doors off and staid he was just very,
- 58:28Speaker 3: good yes for his age in. COLLEGE i love the skill.
- 58:31Speaker 3: SET i think he has the upside to be as
- 58:34Speaker 3: good as anyone in this. DRAFT i love the, playmaking
- 58:37Speaker 3: the potential of putting a guy who sees the ice
- 58:41Speaker 3: the way he. Does with a guy Like nishkoff who
- 58:44Speaker 3: thinks the game as well as he, does that's very
- 58:47Speaker 3: exciting to. Me the one thing THAT i wonder if
- 58:50Speaker 3: it'll give The flyers, pause is That hagen's is not
- 58:53Speaker 3: that bit AND i DO i don't know if this
- 58:57Speaker 3: is going to be enough to stop The flyers from
- 58:59Speaker 3: Taking hagen if he's, there BUT i do wonder if
- 59:02Speaker 3: they're gonna worry a little bit of, well if our
- 59:04Speaker 3: top two players Are James, hagens who is you, know
- 59:07Speaker 3: five foot ten and a, half and Then Mafey mishkov's
- 59:10Speaker 3: probably something like five foot ten and a half as.
- 59:12Speaker 3: Well if they are your two best, players can you
- 59:16Speaker 3: succeed in the? Playoffs if those are your two best,
- 59:19Speaker 3: players and they then can become the focal point of
- 59:22Speaker 3: all the teams that have a defense full of six
- 59:24Speaker 3: foot four or six foot, five six foot six. Behemoths
- 59:28Speaker 3: in my, MIND i take him BECAUSE i think that
- 59:32Speaker 3: at this point you can't be. Choosy you need, talent
- 59:35Speaker 3: and then you can If hagens is as good AS
- 59:39Speaker 3: i hope he can, be and mishkoffn teinues to, develop
- 59:42Speaker 3: then you've got two, studs and then you just go
- 59:44Speaker 3: real hard on trying to find the, big, physical talented
- 59:47Speaker 3: winger in trades and free agency whatever to compliment those,
- 59:51Speaker 3: guys and then.
- 59:51Speaker 2: Boom you're.
- 59:52Speaker 3: GOOD i would go With, hagens BUT i do wonder
- 59:55Speaker 3: if he's there at. Six do The flyers And Danny
- 59:58Speaker 3: brier get scared away a little bit by the fact, that,
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: then in, theory your two premier offensive players are smallish for?
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: Right what about? THOUGH i, Mean Brady martin is also
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: potentially being mocked to The flyers and various mock drafts as.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: Well we've read how many of them at this? Point
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: what are your thoughts On Brady. MARTIN i think he's
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: only six foot himself If i'm not. Mistaken, yeah he's
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: not the, biggest but he plays. Big, yeah Like hagen's
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: it plays a skill.
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: Game he plays a finesse. Game he's not that. Physical
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: Brady martin is maybe the most physical player physical, forward
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: at least in the. Draft he loves throwing the. Body
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: he justifiably gets Some sam benneck, comparisons and obviously everybody
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: is loving What Sam bennett is doing in this. Postseason
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: he's been amazing For. Florida the one Thing i'll push
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: back on a little bit With Brady martin is And
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: i'm not the only one who believes, is But i'm
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: certainly not part of a consensus. VIEW i don't see
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: a center In Brady. MARTIN i see a guy WHO
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: i think his skill set and his HOCKEY, iq WHICH
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: i don't rate as highly as some others, DO i
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: think he is destined to be kicked out to, wing
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: AND i think he's gonna be a darn good. WING
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: i Like Brady martin's game at wing at, CENTER i
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: don't know IF i see a guy who's going to
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: be better than a good THREE c at. WING i
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: could see a top six wing who brings a really unique,
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: element BUT i don't know if he thinks the game
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: at a high enough level at least for my, taste
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: to be AN nhl center in the top, six and
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: if you're drafting at sixth, OVERALL i would rather have
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: a guy who plays the middle who can have a
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: serious offensive. Impact to, me if he's gonna have a
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: chance of having the kind of offensive impact that justifies
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: a pick in the top, six it's going to have
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: to be on the wing and at that, point it's, like,
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: well if he's there And Porter marton's, There i'm Taking
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: porter martone BECAUSE i think his offensive upside on the
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: wing is higher Than martin's on the wing. Anyway SO
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: i don't Hate Brady, martin BUT i Have Brady martin
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: ranked in the teams on my draft, board and a
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: lot of that is because WHEN i watch, HIM i
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: don't see a. Center he didn't play center at The under.
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: Eighteens he played, wing which was the tournament where the
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: hype train really got, started AND i don't think that
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: was a. Coincidence in my, mind he was playing the
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: position that he's best suited, for so of course he
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: played real, well right.
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: RIGHT i know that you guys, today as we're recording
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: this here On, Wednesday june, eleventh you're talking About jack
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: Nesmitt on ON PHL. Y what are your thoughts in
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: terms of him and what he could potentially? Bring, yeah, well.
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: He's a, center and Unlike Brady, Martin i'm very confident
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: that That nesbit is going to stick down the. Middle he's,
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: bigger he's six, before he's still growing into his, body
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: so there's a lot more physical development than can come
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: over the next few. YEARS i Like, NESBIT i said
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: on the, show, THOUGH i have him more as an
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: early second round guy rather than a guy rather than
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: a guy Who i'd be excited to take a twenty.
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: Two the reason Why i've mocked him in the past
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: to The flyers of twenty, two, though is because obviously
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: the position will Need flyers need a. Center, also there's
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: a size. FACTOR i do, think all things being equal
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: To flyers would like to add more size to their center,
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: pipeline really to their four pipeline over, yeah but definitely
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: to their center pipeline Jelly jenko's five to, eleven you.
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: KNOW i just think they ideally would like. That and
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: also the thing with, nesmind and this is WHY i
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: like the fit potentially with The flyers in terms of
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: them liking, him he in my, mind has the skills
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: to be a middle six. CENTER i think he has
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: the hockey. INTELLIGENCE i think he has the COMPETE i
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: think he has the puck handling. ABILITY i like his.
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: Skills he's not a good, skater and that's what pushes,
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: me pushes him down my. Board The, flyers, however, historically
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: have not been scared away by that as.
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: Much that's.
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: TRUE i present you One Tyson, forrester, who like the
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: consensus view of him in his draft, was, yeah if
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: he could, skate he'd be a top, fifteen top ten.
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: Pick but he, couldn't, right and they picked him and
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: they improved his skating to the point where at least
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: it's not, awful and now he's a darn good. PLAYER
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: i could see them having the same idea With, nesbit thinking,
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: well if we improve a skating to the point where
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: it's not, trash then maybe he's a middle six. Center
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: they tend to like to take swings on being able
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: to improve a guy skating with you, know more physical,
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: development with some more, techniques some better. Technique and that's
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: kind of WHY i look At nesbit And i'm, like all,
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: right so it was one big week point of something
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: The flyers tend.
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: To not be scared.
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: Of maybe he could be a, fit all.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: Right, VERGO i got a little bit ahead of myself
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: there talking About nesbit, too because as we, know as
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: we're talking, About flyers also have the number twenty two
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: and number thirty two picks in the first. Round just
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: talking About Jack, nesbit but what might The flyers do
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: with their other, uh their other picks, Here, like what
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: could they do is their specific, Talent, charlie some players
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: here that you think could be valuable to the team
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: down the. Road, again just talked About nesbit anybody else
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: in terms of who you have in the cue that
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: you're going to be looking.
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: At, oh, yeah there's a lot of. Guys. Yeah the
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: thing with this draft IS i would say that the
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: WAY i have it ranked on my board, is you,
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: know you get past the guys WHO i would consider
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: it to be like blue chip, potential like guys WHO
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: i look at it and you, know like when you
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: do a top FIFTY nhl, prospects like they're gonna be
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: on it. REGARDLESS i think that tier ends around, nine,
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: okay and then from like around ten to, twenty you've
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: got the next, tier which are all GUYS i, like
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: and all guys who if they if one of those
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: guys slips at twenty, two run up to the board
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: and take them all real good. Players this is actually
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: WHERE i Have Bree. MARTIN i like guys like you,
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: Know carter Behar, Cole Reshnie Braydon. Coots Colin potter is
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: a guy who could be a fit further down the
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: draft because, WELL i have him in that. Tier you,
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: know he's, small so he might slip. Yep but to,
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: me the next tier ends around twenty and then you
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: just have a big old. Tier LIKE i have guys
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: WHO i obviously like more than, others but twenty through,
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: fifty it really is just a grab. Bag it's just
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: whoever the scouts like the. Most so it's hard to be, like,
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: well the flyers should take this. GUY i have my
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: GUYS i, like, yeah LIKE i have. GUYS i Mentioned Colin.
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: Potter he's, smallish but he's one of the, fastest if
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: not the, fastest guy in the. DRAFT i really like his.
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: Upside Alexander zarovski is A, russian A russian winger who's
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: intriguing to. Me Ryker lee's intriguing to, Me Shane Van
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: sadi's intriguing to. Me these are all. FORWARDS i Like Sasha,
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: bumidian a bigger defenseman who plays For Boston university right.
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: Now so there are GUYS i Like Blake Fiddler Cameron.
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: Reid these are both defensemen as. Well fiddler is, Bigger
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: read is a little bit more, skilled more on The
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: Cam york. Type but there's a lot of GUYS i
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: Like it's just that every team is going to have
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: guys they like in this range because there's not, viewed
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: at least from a scouting, standpoint viewed as a big
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: gap between twenty and. Fifty it's just going to be, like,
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: hey some guys have this guy ranked twenty, seconds some
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: teams have this guy ranked fifty. Second, Right there's gonna
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: be a lot of differences in terms of how they're.
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: Viewed.
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: Now what it would be awesome for me is to
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: see The flyers take a guy WHO i have ranked
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: in that like ten to twenty, range to nab him
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: at twenty, two and then at thirty two take one
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: of the GUYS i also really, like but in that
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: next year Down.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: Well, charlie BEFORE i let you, go, BUDDY i have
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: been asking this of our guests that have been coming
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: on as we're talking about This flyer's, draft AND i
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: want to get your take on it again BEFORE i
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: let you. Go. Here when This flyer's twenty twenty five
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: draft is all said and, done we're reflecting on these
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: draft picks in the days and the weeks. After what
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: should us fans here be hoping that the theme of
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: this draft would have been for this. Franchise what do
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: you think the theme should be and what we hope
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: it will be in the days and weeks.
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: After, yeah that's a that's a cool question Because i'm
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: gonna tell you what fans should be hoping. For But
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: i'm also going to tell you that there could there
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: are worlds WHERE i ENVISION i could envision myself being
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: okay that the theme of the draft wasn't this because to,
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: me the if the draft goes in a dream scenario
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: for The, flyers the takeaway should be you no longer
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: have to worry about the center position long. Term that
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: would be the dream Takeaways like if you come away
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: from this draft with you, know with a with A James,
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: hagens you, know or even like A Kale danoa or
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: An Anton, frondel and then maybe with twenty, two you,
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: know you get A Kole reshni or maybe a trade
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: up and you get A roger, McQueen and then maybe
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: you take another guy in the second round who has you,
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: know middle six to bottom six center. Upside if that
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: would be the dream you come away from this draft
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: and you're, Like, okay we don't have to worry about
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: the center position. Anymore we've got enough guys where, like
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: some of these guys are going to hit and we
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: can feel good about where we are at down the.
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: Middle that, said in a world where let's, say you,
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: Know frondel goes three and Then danoye goes, four and
- 1:08:48Speaker 3: Then hagen's goes, five LIKE i would, say Take Porter, marton,
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: yeah and that would obviously not solve the center, problem,
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: Right but like that WOULD i think be the right
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: pick BECAUSE i think he the best player. Available so
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: some of this is out of The flyers. Control some
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: of this just comes down, to you, know will where
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: will the chips, Fall who's gonna get, Taken where will
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: The flyers get lucky with who's, available and will they
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: be able to fill their biggest. Need BUT i think
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: the dream scenario for this draft is you come away
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: as A flyers fan feeling, like, yeah no longer have
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: to worry about. Center we got, one maybe even two
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: guys who we feel real good, about and then we
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: can worry about other positions moving forward because the center,
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: position given the guys we took in this, draft given
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: the fact that we got Jet luchenko the last, draft
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: we no longer have to be fretting constantly about where
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: we're going to get our centers for the long.
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: Term i'll tell you it's gonna be. Fantastic it's going
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: to be exciting for. Sure AND i believe that you
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: all are going to be getting together for like a, party,
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: RIGHT i, mean there's gonna be a draft. Party and
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: it stinks THAT i have to miss And i'm gonna
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: be on vacation with my. Family YES i, WOULD i.
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: WOULD i do want to be on vacation with my, family,
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: Folks but, yes get the why don't you get the
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: party stuff out there so folks can know and understand
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: where they can go if they want to chill out
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: and hang out with you.

- 1:10:10Speaker 3: More it's happening at The South Philly chickis And pets
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: right Off Broad, street right near the. Ballparks And i'm
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: not actually sure what time it, begins BUT i believe
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: it's going to begin around like six six. Thirty it
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: is a five dollars mission for, everyone but that is
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: entirely because last year we had so many people that
- 1:10:31Speaker 3: this is more of like a crowd control, thing and
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: all of the proceeds we get for the five dollars
- 1:10:36Speaker 3: mission or going To Snyder, hockey so we're not making
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: a profit on that. Whatsoever i'll going To Snyder. Hockey
