- 0:00Aloha. Sunday morning — Tropical Storm Moke is bringing heavy rain and strong winds across the islands today. Mele here with what's happening in Hawaiʻi.
- 1:57Rain started on the Big Island this morning and is spreading west through the day — Maui County by afternoon, Oʻahu and Kauaʻi by evening. The Big Island's windward slopes are getting hit hardest, with 5 to 10 inches possible and locally up to 15. Eastern Maui could see 3 to 6 inches; most other areas 1 to 2. Wind is the other story — gusts up to 55 mph in exposed areas, especially near mountains and passes. A Wind Advisory is in effect through this evening for parts of the Big Island and Maui County. If you're driving exposed roads, take it slow.
- 2:25Surf is building on east and south-facing shores. Oʻahu is running 4 to 5 feet with moderate conditions and strong shore break. Kauaʻi is up to 5.6 feet. The Big Island and Maui are smaller, but rough seas are everywhere in windward waters. Today is a watch-from-shore day — water activities aren't safe right now.
- 2:40Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park is already closed due to the storm system. Kīlauea is active, so check the park's alert status before planning a visit when it reopens. Everything else is operating normally.
- 2:51If you're on the Big Island right now, Punaluʻu Bake Shop is one of the places dealing with recovery after Hurricane Lala. The shop's employee recovery fund helps more than 50 workers and their families who were affected. It's the kind of small business impact that matters when you're traveling here — the people who run the places you visit are dealing with real disruption. Supporting local recovery funds like this one is a concrete way to help.
- 3:13By Tuesday, drier air moves in and conditions return to normal summer trade winds. The rest of the week stays quieter — no active weather alerts expected.
- 3:21Stay safe indoors or on the leeward side today. Talk to you tomorrow.
