Latest / The Paul Barron Crypto Show / Solana Seeker Launch Countdown!🚨Solana Mobile INTERVIEW🔥
Transcript
- 0:06Speaker 1: You guys have been waiting for it, and that, of
- 0:07Speaker 1: course is the Salona Seeker, that is the new mobile
- 0:10Speaker 1: device for Web three. We'll talk about that today and
- 0:12Speaker 1: we have a special guest, of course, coming in from
- 0:14Speaker 1: Salona Mobile. It's going to be a good one. You
- 0:16Speaker 1: guys don't want to miss it. Money is Smaul Barren.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome back into tech Path. As you guys know, we've
- 0:19Speaker 1: covered the Salona Mobile saga nice little pun there for
- 0:24Speaker 1: quite some time, and if you look back on the
- 0:27Speaker 1: channel itself, you can kind of see all of our breakdowns,
- 0:30Speaker 1: including you know when Marquez Brownie was going after it.
- 0:33Speaker 2: We've been really covering.
- 0:35Speaker 1: This for quite some time, and I think the point
- 0:37Speaker 1: is that it's opportunity of really shifting the dynamics around
- 0:41Speaker 1: mobile device computing and Web three is finally here, and
- 0:46Speaker 1: of course the device is going to be shipping in August,
- 0:48Speaker 1: so that's coming up very soon. You guys are also
- 0:51Speaker 1: going to have the benefits of some new drop alerts,
- 0:53Speaker 1: and this is something if you're brand new to the
- 0:55Speaker 1: Salona ecosystem. One of the things that this device is
- 0:59Speaker 1: doing probably kind of set the tone for mobile devices
- 1:04Speaker 1: is that projects of all sorts and types are air
- 1:07Speaker 1: dropping into the holders, so that in itself creates a
- 1:11Speaker 1: value in the hardware that a lot of people, I
- 1:14Speaker 1: don't know that they completely understood the impact it would
- 1:17Speaker 1: have on the market. And of course it has had
- 1:20Speaker 1: a major impact. One of the biggest things is everybody's
- 1:23Speaker 1: been waiting for this date right here, and that is
- 1:26Speaker 1: on August fourth, we're going to see shipping begin. So
- 1:31Speaker 1: if you haven't already done it, go over to that
- 1:33Speaker 1: little link right there, which is Salonamobile dot Com Force
- 1:35Speaker 1: Slash Shipping. You've already bought one of these units, you
- 1:38Speaker 1: can set in your shipping address and get going on
- 1:41Speaker 1: getting your own secret device. So I wanted to bring
- 1:45Speaker 1: in Emmett Haayer, who is the GM of Salona Mobile,
- 1:48Speaker 1: to kind of drill down into some questions. So let's
- 1:50Speaker 1: get him on the show.
- 1:51Speaker 2: EMMITTT how are you.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Hey, I'm doing great, Paul, thanks for having me. How
- 1:54Speaker 3: are you great?
- 1:55Speaker 2: Yeah, good to have you.
- 1:56Speaker 1: And of course, obviously we've been very excited about this
- 1:59Speaker 1: device for quite some time. Love to see the fact
- 2:02Speaker 1: that we are now here, or it feels like we're here, so.
- 2:05Speaker 2: The shipping of devices are coming quickly.
- 2:08Speaker 1: I want to get into some quick questions with you,
- 2:11Speaker 1: mainly around the Seeker token with the announcement. First of all,
- 2:15Speaker 1: why do a token for this particular project?
- 2:19Speaker 3: As you mentioned, it's almost here, it's very exciting, I
- 2:22Speaker 3: think as we look forward. We announced our upcoming token SCR.
- 2:26Speaker 3: The reason we chose to launch a token is because
- 2:29Speaker 3: our vision of what we've built extends beyond our own devices.
- 2:33Speaker 3: We've built Saga, we're building Seeker, but we were also
- 2:36Speaker 3: building a platform that's run natively on those two phones,
- 2:39Speaker 3: but can run on more phones in the future, and
- 2:41Speaker 3: launching a token gives us the opportunity to really grow things,
- 2:45Speaker 3: grow the ecosystem, bring the software at all sorts of
- 2:47Speaker 3: different devices, to centralize the whole thing, and give a
- 2:50Speaker 3: token provides something to coordinate around for that ecosystem, and
- 2:54Speaker 3: it gives a sort of rewards package for builders and
- 2:58Speaker 3: users and keeps everybody in incentivized to contribute to the
- 3:02Speaker 3: long term of the Slauno Mobile ecosystem.
- 3:04Speaker 1: When you look at chapter two and you think about
- 3:07Speaker 1: the pre Order NFT, the Genesis NFT holders, will they
- 3:11Speaker 1: be able to get the Seeker token? Will there be
- 3:14Speaker 1: any kind of air drops? Do you think coming in
- 3:15Speaker 1: on that.
- 3:16Speaker 3: So we're going to make sure that we get the
- 3:17Speaker 3: token into the hands of all of the people who
- 3:19Speaker 3: have gotten us to this point. So, whether that's a user,
- 3:22Speaker 3: whether that's a builder, the goal here is to get
- 3:24Speaker 3: it started with the people who have gotten us to
- 3:26Speaker 3: this point for sure.
- 3:26Speaker 1: One thing I wanted to note for you guys is
- 3:29Speaker 1: on the shipping process, when it's asking for your shipping address,
- 3:35Speaker 1: it goes through an infinite loop of connecting to the email.
- 3:38Speaker 1: So is there are there any issues with being able
- 3:42Speaker 1: to go in and get your address placed in there?
- 3:44Speaker 3: Yeah, so we did. Right after launch had a couple issues.
- 3:47Speaker 3: We had such a surge of demand of people who
- 3:50Speaker 3: have pre ordered the phones coming to give us their
- 3:52Speaker 3: addresses that a few of the tools that we relied
- 3:55Speaker 3: on actually fell down during that surge. They've all been
- 3:57Speaker 3: repaired now. So if right after launch you were having issues,
- 3:59Speaker 3: or couple days after there were some issues, you should
- 4:02Speaker 3: be able to go back now aslantomobile dot com slash
- 4:04Speaker 3: shipping and confirm your address. If not, you can reach
- 4:07Speaker 3: out to our support team. We're happy to keep a
- 4:09Speaker 3: hand there. But from everything we've heard from the community lately,
- 4:12Speaker 3: address collection has been working just fine.
- 4:14Speaker 2: All right, well, we'll definitely try.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Because they're going to get my shipping address in there.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Let's talk about AI, and when you think about AI
- 4:24Speaker 1: on mobile devices, so far, we haven't seen really great success.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Apple has not done a great job with it. In fact,
- 4:31Speaker 1: most Apple users are using third party apps that they
- 4:34Speaker 1: download off the app store. Android has not done a
- 4:37Speaker 1: great job with it. Even Google has struggled with being
- 4:40Speaker 1: able to get a mobile device into an AI platform
- 4:44Speaker 1: that is native to the device itself. Explain to me
- 4:46Speaker 1: the difference that Seeker is rolling out in terms of AI.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Yeah, we're trying to build something that's open and different.
- 4:55Speaker 3: So our team is not right now trying to solve
- 4:58Speaker 3: all of the AI problems that are users have, but
- 5:00Speaker 3: we want to give developers the opportunity to build those things.
- 5:03Speaker 3: When you look at the stores that Apple and Google
- 5:05Speaker 3: have created and the platforms that they've created, it's very closed.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Access to data is closed, but you know Apple and
- 5:11Speaker 3: Google are off monetizing those users data without their consent.
- 5:14Speaker 3: What we want in terms of AI innovation is to
- 5:17Speaker 3: see teams build new types of models, not new types
- 5:20Speaker 3: of lms, literally new types of business models. One where
- 5:24Speaker 3: users data can potentially be monetizable. Right, if you think
- 5:27Speaker 3: about everything you're doing on a phone on a day
- 5:29Speaker 3: to day basis, you're generating tons and tons and tons
- 5:32Speaker 3: of useful data, but you never get to monetize it.
- 5:34Speaker 3: And I think crypto gives us a totally different way
- 5:37Speaker 3: to think about that. So, whether it's your GPS data,
- 5:40Speaker 3: what cellular networks are connecting to, all these data points
- 5:43Speaker 3: that can fuel new types of AI models. We see
- 5:45Speaker 3: Seeker as an opportunity to actually monetize all that data
- 5:49Speaker 3: that you're creating and you're just giving away to these
- 5:51Speaker 3: model makers. So yes, we're we're not personally building the
- 5:55Speaker 3: next great AI model, but we're building a new type
- 5:57Speaker 3: of economic model where use get to monetize everything that
- 6:02Speaker 3: they're doing.
- 6:03Speaker 1: I think that's one of the things that many of
- 6:05Speaker 1: our viewers maybe are who are coming into crypto for
- 6:08Speaker 1: the very first time and they're starting to think, is
- 6:10Speaker 1: that there's a cryptophone and understanding that there's an integration
- 6:15Speaker 1: that is I think a leap forward, especially around AI.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I've got a clip here for those of you that
- 6:22Speaker 1: maybe are brand new to this. Take a look at
- 6:24Speaker 1: this and hopefully this will help put the dots together.
- 6:26Speaker 4: Take a look, Hey Sony, swap five dollars of SOL
- 6:30Speaker 4: into tie.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Just confirm the transaction and sign. Hey SONA, send five
- 6:38Speaker 3: dollars of tie to dam sign the transaction again. And
- 6:41Speaker 3: it's that simple.
- 6:52Speaker 1: So everybody's been talking about AI for a while, and
- 6:54Speaker 1: maybe this is the device that finally gets us into
- 6:57Speaker 1: the ability ability to really interface with agentic AAI meaning
- 7:01Speaker 1: agents that can go out and do functions like what
- 7:03Speaker 1: they were trying to do right there. It's just the
- 7:06Speaker 1: beginning right now, Emmett, how fast do you think we'll
- 7:10Speaker 1: get to a point where people can really start utilizing
- 7:13Speaker 1: this tool.
- 7:14Speaker 3: We're close, I think, I really do think in the
- 7:17Speaker 3: next you know, maybe year, we're going to see a
- 7:20Speaker 3: lot of on chain activity being agentic, and the phone
- 7:24Speaker 3: is a really great starting point for that. You know.
- 7:25Speaker 3: It's it doesn't make sense anytime you want to change
- 7:28Speaker 3: your instructions or want to accomplish something different, to have
- 7:31Speaker 3: to always retreat to your computer write up a new
- 7:34Speaker 3: set of instructions, give an agent something new to shoot towards.
- 7:37Speaker 3: It would make sense that you take your phone out
- 7:39Speaker 3: and you change course with a couple taps or a
- 7:41Speaker 3: short type or even a short voice message. So I
- 7:44Speaker 3: really do think we're close. I think we're seeing a
- 7:46Speaker 3: ton of innovation in that space. We're seeing builders from
- 7:48Speaker 3: across Salana and across crypto more broadly trying to find
- 7:51Speaker 3: ways to make transacting on chain as simple and seamless
- 7:54Speaker 3: as possible, and AI seems like the most obvious path there.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Well, I think the combination of a web three name
- 8:00Speaker 1: device AI could be kind of the holy grail of
- 8:03Speaker 1: mobile computing and may could lead a new revolution of
- 8:07Speaker 1: how we're using mobile devices, which everybody's been talking about
- 8:10Speaker 1: voice becoming pretty much the input style that most likely
- 8:13Speaker 1: will be using soon. So I'm excited to see how
- 8:16Speaker 1: this is going to go.
- 8:17Speaker 3: And I think, you know, on that note, one of
- 8:20Speaker 3: the challenges of having AI ta take advantage of things
- 8:24Speaker 3: like payments and commerce and Web two world is too expensive.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Crypto knocks down those walls. Having a cryptonative device makes
- 8:31Speaker 3: it so much easier. Right, So, if you imagine a
- 8:32Speaker 3: world where you can use AI to sign transactions or
- 8:36Speaker 3: make payments, and you're doing it on a blockchain network
- 8:40Speaker 3: that settles almost in an instant and in a way
- 8:43Speaker 3: that's safe and secure, and protected by seed Vault, which
- 8:46Speaker 3: we've built directly into Seeker and into Saga. I could
- 8:49Speaker 3: see a world where I could not only you know,
- 8:51Speaker 3: transact super easily, but also super securely in in a
- 8:54Speaker 3: way that is inexpensive, and I can do regularly all
- 8:57Speaker 3: the time, day after day, hour after hour.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Some of the rules that we're going to see within
- 9:01Speaker 1: the mobile compute era and I am going to and
- 9:03Speaker 1: I'm going to ask you about the top apps to
- 9:06Speaker 1: look at, but one that we're watching as LULO, and
- 9:09Speaker 1: this of course is stable on in DeFi yields within
- 9:12Speaker 1: an ecosystem like this, so very soon, August fourth could
- 9:16Speaker 1: be seeing this also show up on the Solano devices
- 9:19Speaker 1: in terms of yield almost yield farming. I guess to
- 9:22Speaker 1: a certain extent right now, when you look at the
- 9:26Speaker 1: ability of new DeFi or I should say new developers
- 9:29Speaker 1: coming into the Salona mobile ecosystem, how many people are
- 9:33Speaker 1: coming in to build on the platform right now? Is
- 9:36Speaker 1: it just are you seeing just constant builders coming in?
- 9:39Speaker 3: It's what's a lot? Yeah, it keeps us busy. You know,
- 9:43Speaker 3: this Salona ecosystem is so chock full of builders. We're
- 9:46Speaker 3: seeing two things happening at once. One is all the
- 9:49Speaker 3: teams who have been around, the teams whose names you know,
- 9:51Speaker 3: who products you know, are taking mobile more seriously. The
- 9:54Speaker 3: fact that we've pre sold one hundred and fifty thousand seekers.
- 9:57Speaker 3: It creates an addressable market that's both big enough and
- 10:00Speaker 3: fervent enough for these teams to actually commit to and
- 10:05Speaker 3: prioritize their mobile apps. You know, historically it hasn't been
- 10:07Speaker 3: worth hit for most teams. They would spend a bunch
- 10:10Speaker 3: of time, they'd build a mobile app, and then they'd
- 10:11Speaker 3: get blocked by Apple or Google. So all that money
- 10:13Speaker 3: would have just been a waste. All that time would
- 10:15Speaker 3: have been a waste. We're we've created an open store
- 10:18Speaker 3: so that teams who want to build something that's crypto
- 10:20Speaker 3: first aren't going to be blocked. They're not going to
- 10:22Speaker 3: have to pay thirty percent back to an Apple or
- 10:24Speaker 3: a Google. And so all the big teams have been
- 10:26Speaker 3: around forever, they're finally taking mobile more seriously. But in parallel,
- 10:30Speaker 3: we're seeing a flood of new entrants, new types of builders.
- 10:33Speaker 3: People who wanted to build something crypto native, didn't quite
- 10:37Speaker 3: know what type of products to build, and now mobile
- 10:39Speaker 3: gives them a totally new product space to do it.
- 10:42Speaker 3: So you know, we just announced that Slanno Mobile is
- 10:44Speaker 3: going to be running its first hackathon. We've opened up
- 10:46Speaker 3: a grants program. We're just seeing a flood of new
- 10:48Speaker 3: developers who don't already have a product. They're not some
- 10:51Speaker 3: established business, but they've decided the first crypto app that
- 10:54Speaker 3: they want to build is for slonomobile.
- 10:56Speaker 1: I think we're going to see an absolute influx. One
- 10:59Speaker 1: of the areas that I'm really interested in is geofencing
- 11:02Speaker 1: and geolocation. And you think about where geo has come from,
- 11:07Speaker 1: this is one of the I would say, one of
- 11:09Speaker 1: the major technologies that'll help launch mobile in the first play.
- 11:13Speaker 1: And I want to go to a clip here because
- 11:15Speaker 1: this is Geodenet, because this will kind of surprise you
- 11:17Speaker 1: what this will do to a device.
- 11:20Speaker 5: Take a look augmented reality. I can't find my Pokemon.
- 11:23Speaker 5: Where's my Pokemon connected into geodnet?
- 11:26Speaker 3: Boom.
- 11:27Speaker 5: I have that geodnet coin right in front of the
- 11:29Speaker 5: door to symbolize our building, just to demonstrate the accuracy difference.
- 11:33Speaker 5: So the purple is your phone's GPS, blue is geodnet.
- 11:36Speaker 5: You can see it's about one hundred times more accurate.
- 11:38Speaker 5: We're really proud that we're going to be bringing Geodnet's
- 11:41Speaker 5: service directly to the Secret phone, first mobile only device
- 11:45Speaker 5: that we launch on now.
- 11:47Speaker 1: This could be a revolution if you think about it,
- 11:50Speaker 1: a device that can get down to the pinpoint. You
- 11:52Speaker 1: think about drone delivery for food you look at. I mean,
- 11:56Speaker 1: just around the other day, I'm trying to get an
- 11:58Speaker 1: Uber in the Uber driver find because geolocation doesn't work
- 12:01Speaker 1: in the Uber app. So the opportunities are pretty big
- 12:04Speaker 1: here around brands getting much more accurate data. This is
- 12:09Speaker 1: just the beginning. Are there any other I want to
- 12:12Speaker 1: kind of jump to that. Are there any other apps
- 12:14Speaker 1: out there or aaps I should say that you feel like?
- 12:17Speaker 2: Are man?
- 12:18Speaker 1: This could really change the way we use mobile devices.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I think jodnet is a great starting point. I
- 12:24Speaker 3: think the idea that phones have always had better technology
- 12:29Speaker 3: for location and just never offered that data up to developers.
- 12:33Speaker 3: The geodnet team is taking a leap forward and they're saying, hey,
- 12:36Speaker 3: what if phones could take advantage of that and offer
- 12:38Speaker 3: better locations. So, whether it's their Quest app or other
- 12:41Speaker 3: location based apps that we know are being built that
- 12:43Speaker 3: will take advantage of it. I think that's a huge opportunity.
- 12:47Speaker 3: A couple of the areas otherwise that I think our
- 12:49Speaker 3: team is really excited about, first and foremost is trading.
- 12:53Speaker 3: It's actually insane to think that you have to return
- 12:56Speaker 3: to your desk anytime you want to make a trade,
- 12:59Speaker 3: or you know, you see marketing conditions shifting and you
- 13:02Speaker 3: could do it on your phone, but right now it's
- 13:03Speaker 3: just so clunky and so insecure, so most people just
- 13:06Speaker 3: to fall back to their computer. I should be able
- 13:08Speaker 3: to get a notification wherever I am anytime something changes
- 13:11Speaker 3: that I might want to trade against. So both trading
- 13:13Speaker 3: and launch platforms, we just see those being just a
- 13:16Speaker 3: huge mobile centric use case. And then I think the
- 13:19Speaker 3: last is deepen more broadly. Like I was saying, earlier
- 13:22Speaker 3: phones generate so much data that is so useful and
- 13:25Speaker 3: so powerful. The ability to contribute that data back to
- 13:28Speaker 3: these networks and potentially monetize it is going to be
- 13:30Speaker 3: a huge use case for our users. So I would
- 13:32Speaker 3: say that those are generally three areas that we're excited
- 13:35Speaker 3: to continue to see taps being built.
- 13:36Speaker 1: One other era I would like to add to that
- 13:39Speaker 1: is the potential of what we'll see on payment because
- 13:42Speaker 1: the opportunity right now, if you just look at the
- 13:44Speaker 1: proliferation of Apple Pay, it's almost i would say, everywhere,
- 13:49Speaker 1: and right now it's very easy to use seamless mediate,
- 13:52Speaker 1: all those kind of things. But it's Apple Pay, and
- 13:55Speaker 1: you still have the infrastructure of the traditional merching system
- 13:59Speaker 1: and all that. Tom Robot who's been on our show before,
- 14:02Speaker 1: I know, he was a hackathon here recently with you guys.
- 14:05Speaker 1: I want to play a clip because this is a
- 14:07Speaker 1: breakdown of what he's building in the loyalty space for retail.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Take a look.
- 14:13Speaker 6: Well, if I told you could do this in a
- 14:14Speaker 6: single tap, pay and earn points in the same tap.
- 14:17Speaker 6: So here, watch real closely. We're going to spend one
- 14:19Speaker 6: hundred dollars and what happens, pulls out a normal bank card.
- 14:23Speaker 6: At the same time it pulls out the lowerty pass,
- 14:26Speaker 6: the Oakland Buller's Pass, and we can see here we've
- 14:29Speaker 6: earned one hundred Buller bucks. We can generate a pass
- 14:32Speaker 6: which is stilled in the Apple or Gigle wallet. With
- 14:35Speaker 6: one tap, it builds a pass and it deep links
- 14:37Speaker 6: straight into the Apple wallet. So we click add and
- 14:40Speaker 6: this is ready to be tapped to point of sale.
- 14:43Speaker 6: To earn points to redeem for merch et cetera. Once
- 14:47Speaker 6: you've earned these points out of point of sale, you
- 14:49Speaker 6: can then redeem these at an online marketplace.
- 14:51Speaker 1: All right, So what Tom is doing there is he's
- 14:53Speaker 1: really showcasing maybe the future of loyalty and right now
- 14:57Speaker 1: almost every restaurant, hotel, airline company out there is generating
- 15:02Speaker 1: these loyalty points. This could be a huge boom for
- 15:05Speaker 1: the merchant industry. Are you guys focusing more time on
- 15:08Speaker 1: that right now?
- 15:10Speaker 3: Yes, we're talking to a bunch of teams who are
- 15:13Speaker 3: thinking both about payments and loyalty programs. Phones are the
- 15:16Speaker 3: most obvious way to be paying for stuff. I don't
- 15:19Speaker 3: know about you. I don't bring my wallet with me
- 15:21Speaker 3: as much as I used to because I know I
- 15:22Speaker 3: can just pull my phone out and tap to pay.
- 15:25Speaker 3: But you're right, like, having to accept that that's either
- 15:28Speaker 3: going to be Apple or Google who owns that experience
- 15:30Speaker 3: is a tough pill to swallow, and it closes a
- 15:32Speaker 3: lot of doors for developers. So we're really focused on
- 15:34Speaker 3: opening that up, both using the traditional infrastructure and trying
- 15:37Speaker 3: to make things that work, but also trying to find
- 15:40Speaker 3: ways around that. How can you enable better peer to
- 15:42Speaker 3: peer or peer to merchant payment experiences. That's something we're
- 15:45Speaker 3: spending a lot of time thinking about. And we also
- 15:47Speaker 3: want to make sure that you know, for some users
- 15:50Speaker 3: it feels like everything their assets on chain are sort
- 15:54Speaker 3: of locked up and it can only be spent on chain.
- 15:57Speaker 3: We want to break down those walls that you can
- 15:59Speaker 3: take the top that you've got in your wallet or
- 16:01Speaker 3: your USDC or whatever it is and use it in
- 16:03Speaker 3: more places, right in the same way you take your
- 16:06Speaker 3: phone somewhere. You just want to use it. You want
- 16:07Speaker 3: to meet things to be as easy as possible. So
- 16:09Speaker 3: we're spending a lot of time thinking about that. We're
- 16:11Speaker 3: working with a lot of teams trying to solve those problems.
- 16:13Speaker 1: One thing though, that is important is the app store.
- 16:17Speaker 1: So you've got coinbase doing what feels like an app store.
- 16:22Speaker 1: I guess in a way, and I'll show you guys
- 16:23Speaker 1: an example of this that runs on Base. Here's an
- 16:27Speaker 1: example of that of one of the agent projects that's
- 16:31Speaker 1: out there by Day I. We've had them on the show,
- 16:34Speaker 1: and what they're doing is is because they don't have
- 16:35Speaker 1: an app within the ecosystem, they're actually using the Base
- 16:38Speaker 1: ecosystem for notifications. This, of course all changes with the
- 16:43Speaker 1: Seeker and the Salona dap store. So explain to me
- 16:47Speaker 1: kind of the differences of what you guys are trying
- 16:49Speaker 1: to do there.
- 16:50Speaker 3: To compare us. To compare the Salana dap store against
- 16:52Speaker 3: the existing app stores, two major things come to mind.
- 16:55Speaker 3: The first is we don't have anti crypto policies. We
- 17:00Speaker 3: hear from developers all the time. They spend all this time,
- 17:02Speaker 3: all this money building a mobile app. They submit it
- 17:04Speaker 3: to the stores, and then they wait, and then they wait,
- 17:07Speaker 3: and then they wait, and then they eventually get rejected
- 17:09Speaker 3: or maybe they'll get an app accepted, but it depends
- 17:12Speaker 3: on which reviewer they get on which day to determine
- 17:14Speaker 3: their fate, and they have to scrub a lot of
- 17:16Speaker 3: the marketing materials that make the app more interesting to
- 17:19Speaker 3: a lot of the crypto user base. We don't have
- 17:21Speaker 3: those arbitrary policies. We want users to build crypto first.
- 17:24Speaker 3: We want them to be able to market what they're building.
- 17:27Speaker 3: The second is fees. Apple and Google take thirty percent
- 17:30Speaker 3: or so of all revenue that developers get through their
- 17:33Speaker 3: app stores. That doesn't work in crypto. The idea that
- 17:37Speaker 3: I would you buy an NFT from a marketplace or
- 17:40Speaker 3: pay for tokens and then bleed thirty percent of that
- 17:43Speaker 3: potential purchase price off to some centralized party. Makes zero sense,
- 17:48Speaker 3: And so we don't charge those fees of developers. You know,
- 17:51Speaker 3: we expect them to be able to innovate from a
- 17:53Speaker 3: business model perspective. So I would say that that's the
- 17:55Speaker 3: biggest difference for us is we're just much more builder friendly.
- 17:58Speaker 3: We're much more crypto friendly than the distinct stores and
- 18:01Speaker 3: compared to the other on chain alternatives that are starting
- 18:04Speaker 3: to build up, whether that's you know, mini apps in
- 18:06Speaker 3: something like a telegram, whether that's you know, using the
- 18:10Speaker 3: notification stack of something like a base, all those are
- 18:13Speaker 3: really interesting efforts. We want to see as much mobile
- 18:15Speaker 3: first development and innovation as possible in the space. We're
- 18:19Speaker 3: most confident in our store. We're the only people who
- 18:21Speaker 3: are building a phone. We're the only people who have
- 18:23Speaker 3: the privileges that are required to be auto updating apps
- 18:25Speaker 3: in the background and letting builders build actually native apps
- 18:29Speaker 3: as opposed to web apps or mini apps where all
- 18:31Speaker 3: the functionality is a little bit watered down. So we're
- 18:34Speaker 3: super confident in our approach. I think we're going to
- 18:36Speaker 3: give users the best possible experience in dev's the most reach.
- 18:39Speaker 3: But it's great to see all the innovation that's happening. Frankly,
- 18:41Speaker 3: I think a rising tide's going to float all boats here.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Here's here's kind of a visual of this, so you
- 18:46Speaker 1: guys can kind of see it. When a notifications coming in,
- 18:48Speaker 1: what is what Emma's talking about is it's coming in
- 18:51Speaker 1: through the coinbas wallet app, so it's not actually the
- 18:54Speaker 1: bite a gentic Ai giving you a notification. That's where
- 18:57Speaker 1: the Seeker, I think is really going to shine because
- 19:00Speaker 1: you'll have.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Native apps that are just right there to.
- 19:03Speaker 1: You and you're not really, you know, kind of being
- 19:05Speaker 1: held custody by you know, a third party app that
- 19:08Speaker 1: you're building another app up on top of. So dammit,
- 19:11Speaker 1: here's the helium numbers right here. I'll kind of zoom
- 19:14Speaker 1: in on that a little bit, but you can kind
- 19:15Speaker 1: of see total mobile subscribers really started taking off back
- 19:19Speaker 1: here in April, and now we've had a skyrocket since
- 19:21Speaker 1: they launched their free program. But this could be big
- 19:24Speaker 1: because they're going to hit what is that now two
- 19:27Speaker 1: hundred and seventy eight thousand I think they're going to
- 19:29Speaker 1: get another whether they get another one hundred and fifty
- 19:31Speaker 1: thousand when you guys ship all the seekers, or if
- 19:33Speaker 1: we get a certain percentage at point is we're going
- 19:36Speaker 1: to see another I think a lot of people going
- 19:38Speaker 1: to the Helium network to get that free platform. What
- 19:41Speaker 1: is the critical component of adoption that you think needs
- 19:46Speaker 1: to take place for to go from one hundred and
- 19:50Speaker 1: fifty thousand seekers to multi million seekers?
- 19:54Speaker 2: What would have to take place?
- 19:56Speaker 3: Yeah, a few things. First, we need great apps. The
- 20:01Speaker 3: only way this whole platform makes sense if there are
- 20:04Speaker 3: things that you can only do on it that actually
- 20:06Speaker 3: solve problems. The must have apps that crypto. There's only
- 20:10Speaker 3: a handful of those that exist so far, and so
- 20:13Speaker 3: we're spending as much time as we can supporting developers,
- 20:16Speaker 3: giving them grants, trying to encourage that type of innovation.
- 20:20Speaker 3: I think it doesn't take a thousand home run apps
- 20:23Speaker 3: for this to make sense. We just need a handful
- 20:26Speaker 3: who can inspire the next handful, who can inspire the
- 20:28Speaker 3: next handful. So I think that that's going to be
- 20:30Speaker 3: most critical. There needs to be an app that everybody
- 20:32Speaker 3: will not stop talking about that you can only get
- 20:34Speaker 3: on the Solanto mobile platform and on Seeker. I think
- 20:37Speaker 3: aside from that, we need to get the user experience
- 20:40Speaker 3: of our platform really right. One of the things that
- 20:42Speaker 3: we're doing differently between two Seeker that we didn't do
- 20:45Speaker 3: with Saga is we've actually built our own wallet, So
- 20:47Speaker 3: we're working with the team at Soulflair. We're building the
- 20:49Speaker 3: seed Vault wallet. The purpose of that is to create
- 20:53Speaker 3: the Apple pay esque magic experience that you were talking
- 20:56Speaker 3: about earlier, where signing transactions and signing messages feels as
- 21:01Speaker 3: seamless as hitting that Apple Pay button when you're at
- 21:04Speaker 3: checkout somewhere and then all of a sudden you've spent
- 21:07Speaker 3: the money you maybe didn't mean to spend, or it
- 21:10Speaker 3: just is so easy. So I think those are the
- 21:12Speaker 3: two big things. We need developers to step up and
- 21:14Speaker 3: build totally new, totally novel things, and we need to
- 21:17Speaker 3: get the user experience of the platform really right, so
- 21:19Speaker 3: that signing transactions and connecting to DAPs can feel as
- 21:22Speaker 3: seamless as possible in a way that users have grown
- 21:24Speaker 3: accustomed to with all of the great Web two apps
- 21:26Speaker 3: out there.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Okay, so that's good to hear you say that, because
- 21:30Speaker 1: I think This is a thing when you're talking about
- 21:32Speaker 1: developers out there. I know we have a lot to
- 21:34Speaker 1: watch our show building something that, to your point, is
- 21:38Speaker 1: almost a must have, And I think that's what we
- 21:41Speaker 1: saw in the early stages of mobile adoption.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Just in general.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Is it became a device that you must have, much
- 21:48Speaker 1: like many things that we see now with online commerce
- 21:51Speaker 1: and tools today, whether it's in right hailing or you.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Know, some sort of food delivery or something that would
- 21:57Speaker 2: be an everyday activity.
- 21:58Speaker 1: I think this will be interesting to see those come out.
- 22:01Speaker 1: The other one area that I'm really concerned about obviously
- 22:04Speaker 1: is going to be security. If you look at what's
- 22:05Speaker 1: been going on with Coinbase. You know, Coinbase had their
- 22:08Speaker 1: data breach that was a big issue. I know Raj
- 22:11Speaker 1: even ended up getting docks out there. So with all
- 22:15Speaker 1: of this happening, what does it look like right now
- 22:19Speaker 1: in terms of security and how on chain verification is
- 22:22Speaker 1: going to work versus just privacy in general.
- 22:25Speaker 2: How do you guys see this?
- 22:26Speaker 3: It starts with hardware. We built our own hardware so
- 22:30Speaker 3: that we could give users a more secure crypto experience.
- 22:34Speaker 3: We built seed Vault on Saga. Seat Vault is a
- 22:36Speaker 3: more secure way to manage your keys, and so seed Vault,
- 22:39Speaker 3: just like a hardware wallet, keeps all that information totally
- 22:42Speaker 3: separate from the apps, totally separate from the operating system.
- 22:45Speaker 3: And so we think the fundamentals of what is a
- 22:50Speaker 3: secure way to store a user's seed is the most
- 22:52Speaker 3: important starting point, and that's where we've started everything Beyond there,
- 22:56Speaker 3: you know, there's tons of opportunities to continue to innovate.
- 22:58Speaker 3: Teams are taking lots of really interesting swite swings in
- 23:01Speaker 3: the NPC space or various types of smart wallet infrastructure,
- 23:06Speaker 3: but without a really secure, solid foundation, which is what
- 23:10Speaker 3: we built with seed Fault, and none of that innovation matters.
- 23:12Speaker 3: And so yeah, we're confident that, you know, most of
- 23:15Speaker 3: that innovation is going to make most sense on a
- 23:17Speaker 3: device that's actually built for these use cases.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm really excited to see how this is going
- 23:21Speaker 1: to play out for sure.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Last couple of areas I want to hit on. One is gaming.
- 23:26Speaker 1: We put this tweet out Gosh almost a year ago,
- 23:29Speaker 1: and this was all about trying to get the chapter
- 23:32Speaker 1: two on Solana to become more of a gaming device.
- 23:37Speaker 1: And I'm kind of curious when you look at the
- 23:38Speaker 1: size of gaming in general. I mean, come on, we're
- 23:40Speaker 1: talking about billions of players out there. If you could
- 23:43Speaker 1: plug in real earning capacity, and most likely we'll see
- 23:48Speaker 1: Web three games that are already going in this direction.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Would that not open up an.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Opportunity really to get a lot of people on boarded
- 23:56Speaker 1: into web three very fast? What are your thoughts on
- 23:59Speaker 1: the gaming side of this versus just a traditional use
- 24:02Speaker 1: of a phone.
- 24:03Speaker 3: So we're going to see a bunch of apps that
- 24:06Speaker 3: are games oriented in our store. You know, we've already
- 24:08Speaker 3: talked to a bunch of teams who are building games
- 24:10Speaker 3: on Slana. They're happy to come to our store. So yes,
- 24:12Speaker 3: I think in the future we would love to see
- 24:15Speaker 3: more gaming centric hardware that supported our platform. And the
- 24:19Speaker 3: good news is we're opening up the whole stack. We
- 24:21Speaker 3: want to make it easy for somebody who's building that
- 24:24Speaker 3: next new innovative piece of hardware to incorporate our ADAP store,
- 24:27Speaker 3: and incorporate seed vault, and incorporate sea Fault wallet. That's
- 24:31Speaker 3: really core to our vision here. And so whether our
- 24:34Speaker 3: next device is a gaming centric device, or whether another
- 24:37Speaker 3: team's next device is a gaming centric device that uses
- 24:40Speaker 3: our platform, I think it's a no brainer. That gaming.
- 24:42Speaker 3: It's going to be a portal into this whole ecosystem.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Well, if you look back on our tweet, we were
- 24:47Speaker 1: talking about x reel at the time. They of course
- 24:49Speaker 1: have launched now with it. And if you guys have
- 24:52Speaker 1: never seen the x roal, it's basically a set of
- 24:54Speaker 1: glasses very similar to the metaglasses, but much more efficient.
- 24:58Speaker 1: This is kind of showing an example of the use case.
- 25:00Speaker 1: So it plugs right into a mobile device, gives you
- 25:03Speaker 1: an ar you know, augmented reality vision, but it also
- 25:07Speaker 1: potentially opens up a whole gaming ecosystem.
- 25:09Speaker 2: So I think that is the cool part.
- 25:11Speaker 1: And when you look at Project Ara in general, well
- 25:13Speaker 1: let me play the clip for you and get your
- 25:14Speaker 1: opinion of this.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Take a look. So xrayl just teamed up with Google.
- 25:18Speaker 3: It's called Project Aura.
- 25:20Speaker 4: But Aura adds what looks like a camera above the
- 25:22Speaker 4: nose bridge. The real processing happens on your phone using
- 25:26Speaker 4: a full color diffractive waveguide embedded in the right lens.
- 25:29Speaker 4: Basically the lens becomes a tiny transparent screen that overlays
- 25:33Speaker 4: helpful visuals. Probably the coolest feature was the map's integrate,
- 25:36Speaker 4: agreed fairly high resolution considering the pin would move too.
- 25:41Speaker 7: If that part works instant Like, that's a killer feature
- 25:45Speaker 7: for me.
- 25:45Speaker 2: This is a very big deal for x Rael.
- 25:48Speaker 7: I feel like all the pieces are ready. Hey, I
- 25:50Speaker 7: we believe it's going to make the whole XR experience
- 25:52Speaker 7: so much better to the next.
- 25:54Speaker 6: Level, Like how real is this? You know?
- 25:56Speaker 2: As soon as you know at the end of this.
- 25:58Speaker 4: Year, is that it keep going.
- 26:00Speaker 7: This time they recognize they need to work with a
- 26:03Speaker 7: lot of other om punters and starting with some salt
- 26:07Speaker 7: and you know, we have x real. We have even
- 26:09Speaker 7: gentle mounseer Wobby Parker announcing yesterday as well. I see
- 26:12Speaker 7: we're putting alliance working together to deliver a variety of
- 26:16Speaker 7: different kinds of flood devices for Enjoy NEXTR.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Something that's going to create that must have need and
- 26:22Speaker 1: the opportunity if you get a device like that that's lightweight,
- 26:26Speaker 1: very functional, has all these unique tools that are everyday
- 26:29Speaker 1: use tools and can integrate into Web three and possibly
- 26:33Speaker 1: you know the functionality of tokens and rewards and all
- 26:36Speaker 1: that kind of stuff.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Man, this would be a home run for you guys.
- 26:40Speaker 3: No question, no question. We would love, love, love to
- 26:42Speaker 3: support devices like that going forward. One of the things
- 26:45Speaker 3: we announced recently is we're building a new type of architecture,
- 26:49Speaker 3: something we call tep in, and the purpose of that
- 26:52Speaker 3: architecture is to support new types of devices. So whether
- 26:55Speaker 3: it's augmented reality, glasses, additional phones, additional tablets, watch, you
- 27:00Speaker 3: name it. We want to build something that is open
- 27:03Speaker 3: that all types of devices can support, but is trustworthy
- 27:06Speaker 3: so that as we introduce more layers and more types
- 27:10Speaker 3: of builders, people can join in a way that doesn't
- 27:12Speaker 3: require going through a central party, doesn't require signing up
- 27:15Speaker 3: with a Google or an Apple and hinding them everything,
- 27:18Speaker 3: but rather just openly joining something that's going to continue
- 27:21Speaker 3: to grow. So I would love to see use cases
- 27:23Speaker 3: like that showing up on our platform.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Man, we are in such a unique time. You've got Ai, blockchain,
- 27:29Speaker 1: mobile compute, all of this is happening at the same time.
- 27:32Speaker 1: It feels like I've never seen the technist I've been
- 27:35Speaker 1: in around it for a long time. I've never seen
- 27:36Speaker 1: the tech industry have this many major things happening at
- 27:41Speaker 1: the same time that are somewhat coexisting and intersecting.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Now, so very cool.
- 27:46Speaker 1: We're going to get back with you guys as things
- 27:48Speaker 1: start to release here on the Seeker and of course
- 27:50Speaker 1: obviously as you guys continue to add features. EMMITTT thanks
- 27:53Speaker 1: so much for coming in today. We appreciate it.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Yeah, Paul, thanks for having me you bet are you guys?
- 27:58Speaker 1: If you're not in the Diamond Circle, well that's our
- 28:00Speaker 1: own special group and it's where you guys can get
- 28:02Speaker 1: additional content from us. Also make sure and get in
- 28:05Speaker 1: the Telegram group, which where you can talk to me directly.
- 28:08Speaker 1: We always leave the links down below and make sure
- 28:10Speaker 1: there's only one Telegram group, so don't fall for some
- 28:12Speaker 1: of those crazy ones. But also catch me out there
- 28:15Speaker 1: on X It's just at Paul Barrett. We'll catch you
- 28:17Speaker 1: next time right here on Techpath
