- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome to Just the Cats with Michael Bennett.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Good morning, Anthony White.
- 0:21Speaker 3: I'm with my man Van House, my normal co host
- 0:24Speaker 3: on the locker, sitting in for Michael Bennett. Got my
- 0:28Speaker 3: man Matthew putting things together. But it's a pleasure to
- 0:33Speaker 3: be here this morning, Van House. I just seen you
- 0:37Speaker 3: ten hours ago last night for about an hour and
- 0:39Speaker 3: a half. Man, we should well, we should have done, Anthony.
- 0:44Speaker 3: We should have taked last night locker and had Matthew
- 0:49Speaker 3: just run it. We could have just ran this and
- 0:52Speaker 3: been sleep off. Well, we could have stepped in. Man,
- 0:55Speaker 3: Why were we not thinking about doing it the right way?
- 0:57Speaker 3: We could have done the right way. I've been chilling
- 0:59Speaker 3: right now. See, I always got to look out for
- 1:02Speaker 3: you man. You know how these are offensive players looking
- 1:04Speaker 3: out for the defensive players. So my initial thought was
- 1:09Speaker 3: to cancel locker yesterday, have everybody get up early in
- 1:13Speaker 3: the morning today and get both now where you're driving
- 1:16Speaker 3: or your route and on the way to work. You
- 1:18Speaker 3: could pop on fourteen fifty and h Yeah. But you
- 1:24Speaker 3: know we heard today, so we will.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Do what we do.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Hey, you just showed your age just you said your route.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Ain't nobody throwing newspapers to the door anymore.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Man, we get this all online. You said your route, Man,
- 1:40Speaker 2: nobody goes rally anymore. Come on, man, No, the route means,
- 1:43Speaker 2: oh my god.
- 1:45Speaker 3: That's why Matthew never get involved with an engineer, because
- 1:48Speaker 3: you never know what you're gonna get from. And I
- 1:50Speaker 3: say route, and I don't know if matt beenning probably
- 1:53Speaker 3: in the radio for a while. Route means everybody who
- 1:57Speaker 3: I run into in the public always say is I've
- 2:02Speaker 3: heard you.
- 2:03Speaker 2: On the radio? And I'm like, oh, you listen to us?
- 2:05Speaker 2: No while I'm out doing my route.
- 2:07Speaker 3: That means they work in sales, they work in delivery,
- 2:09Speaker 3: they work in some type of industry. They listen when
- 2:14Speaker 3: you have nothing else to do during the day. You
- 2:15Speaker 3: can listen to music, or you can listen to sports radio,
- 2:19Speaker 3: any radio. Well, I'm sure, I'm sure Matthew is probably
- 2:23Speaker 3: some type of engineer. So don't don't be out here
- 2:27Speaker 3: chastising those people who are very smart.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Come on, then, I'm definitely not any type of engineer.
- 2:33Speaker 4: I believe me.
- 2:35Speaker 5: If I was smart enough to do that, I wouldn't
- 2:37Speaker 5: be doing what I'm doing right now.
- 2:38Speaker 3: You could have lied, matt You could have lied I
- 2:40Speaker 3: know we don't know each other, but you know I
- 2:42Speaker 3: gave you the wink that was like wink, say you're
- 2:45Speaker 3: an engineer. Yeah, and you're gonna be part of the
- 2:49Speaker 3: locker today, Matt, And I want you to understand this. Matthew,
- 2:52Speaker 3: you go by Matthew or Matt, but let's get that establishment.
- 2:54Speaker 4: I usually go about mat but it's really whatever you prefer.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Oh man, I like him already, all right, So so
- 3:02Speaker 3: Matt you're gonna be part of the show with this.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Now here's the thing. I don't know if you've ever
- 3:05Speaker 3: listened to the locker. I'm assuming you haven't. Just looking
- 3:07Speaker 3: at your demeanor and your posture, I'm sure you haven't
- 3:11Speaker 3: listened to the locker. The locker is and you probably
- 3:14Speaker 3: played sports you like you. You probably played the sporters too.
- 3:19Speaker 3: The same conversations we have in the locker room after
- 3:22Speaker 3: the game, before the game, before practice is what we
- 3:26Speaker 3: just introduce our fan base into. So our fan base
- 3:28Speaker 3: gets to hear. Now we governed by the FCC man
- 3:32Speaker 3: or no.
- 3:34Speaker 4: I would imagine.
- 3:35Speaker 2: So yes, So a lot of things.
- 3:39Speaker 3: A lot of things you don't talk about on regular radio,
- 3:41Speaker 3: we talk about because we talk about those things in
- 3:43Speaker 3: the locker room. We'll just take the cursing out, but
- 3:46Speaker 3: we would like you to join us in some of
- 3:49Speaker 3: this opinions or whatever.
- 3:51Speaker 2: And typically Ben and I don't agree much.
- 3:56Speaker 3: That's why it's a pleasure to have you with us
- 3:58Speaker 3: this morning, because if Van and I don't agree, you
- 4:01Speaker 3: can be the buffer, like you can be the you
- 4:03Speaker 3: can be the sided.
- 4:03Speaker 4: Fat be the mediator. That's fine, I'm cool with that.
- 4:07Speaker 2: And what's been going on since the draft here recently,
- 4:11Speaker 2: which is interesting to me, is you know, not that
- 4:16Speaker 2: we got two people drafted, former player drafted. We got
- 4:19Speaker 2: oh Way drafted.
- 4:20Speaker 3: We got a JQ drafted, which everybody kind of assumed
- 4:22Speaker 3: oh Way was second round. The whole big thing now
- 4:26Speaker 3: Van Matt, Van and I know we both played football.
- 4:33Speaker 3: I don't know if you think it's a football school
- 4:34Speaker 3: or track school. I know you're a track guy. I
- 4:36Speaker 3: don't know what you think how the school it is.
- 4:38Speaker 3: But now everybody's thing is that we have we are
- 4:42Speaker 3: one draft pickaway from being not from not having the
- 4:46Speaker 3: most uh in being drafts. We're just one pick away.
- 4:50Speaker 3: So we don't get anybody drafted next year. We were
- 4:54Speaker 3: probably be gonna lose we probably gonna lose. But to me,
- 4:57Speaker 3: that's not the big picture. But that's what everybody's away
- 5:00Speaker 3: from this. I'm sure always family is happy. I'm sure
- 5:03Speaker 3: Quainton's family is happy. I'm sure they're doing everything, you know.
- 5:07Speaker 3: I'm sure they're excited about where the where their kids
- 5:09Speaker 3: are going in as a program. You should be excited
- 5:11Speaker 3: that we But most of the way right now is
- 5:15Speaker 3: and I don't know if you remember. Dang, it's been
- 5:18Speaker 3: a while. Not like ten years ago, did North Carolina
- 5:21Speaker 3: passed us as the most winning college basketball team in history?
- 5:27Speaker 2: It's been Kansas, right, Isn't Kansas number two?
- 5:29Speaker 3: No? I think I think it was North Carolina. Like
- 5:31Speaker 3: ten years ago. We played North Carolina ten years ago.
- 5:34Speaker 3: There's a long time ago like it. Like I said,
- 5:37Speaker 3: my my, my brain don't work. Well, it could have
- 5:39Speaker 3: been it could have been over ten years ago. I
- 5:41Speaker 3: can't remember what was going on at that point in time.
- 5:43Speaker 3: It might have been after we came off of the
- 5:45Speaker 3: Ryan Harrow year. Wow, after we came off of that year.
- 5:50Speaker 3: And now, come on, man, I I gotta dated. I
- 5:53Speaker 3: could have dated my seasons by by a person that
- 5:57Speaker 3: was something. Come on, Oh man, Well, look I got
- 6:00Speaker 3: a question though, since it's as mad as a fan,
- 6:06Speaker 3: we had Onion Zoe get drafted.
- 6:09Speaker 2: He played here more than he played at UVA.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Do we get that credit of the UVA get a
- 6:14Speaker 3: credit for having on campus for four months?
- 6:17Speaker 2: You know? Should that count to our total for NBA
- 6:21Speaker 2: draft picks?
- 6:23Speaker 5: For me, I feel like when it comes to that stuff,
- 6:25Speaker 5: it really depends on who which school the player resonated
- 6:29Speaker 5: with the most, or usually which coach they resonated with
- 6:32Speaker 5: the moach, because I feel like, especially now in an
- 6:35Speaker 5: era which you know in I own, the transfer portal
- 6:37Speaker 5: are so heavy where there's no players stay at the
- 6:39Speaker 5: same school anymore. You've got guys going to five schools
- 6:42Speaker 5: in five seasons, and then the last school they're at
- 6:45Speaker 5: just kind.
- 6:45Speaker 4: Of claims them.
- 6:47Speaker 5: I don't know, it really goes to me with it's
- 6:51Speaker 5: a player's decision, but I feel like as a fan,
- 6:53Speaker 5: you don't hear about which decision they probably make because
- 6:56Speaker 5: you know, they have to always be the PR. That
- 6:57Speaker 5: has to be the PR situation. They got to love
- 7:00Speaker 5: every school they've been with or with their last coach
- 7:02Speaker 5: they were with. So that's a really that's a really
- 7:07Speaker 5: iffy answer for me, I don't really know. I don't
- 7:09Speaker 5: really have one d answer to give you.
- 7:13Speaker 3: And then I guess you talk on UK fans because
- 7:16Speaker 3: if you're a Louisville fan, your coach don't come to
- 7:19Speaker 3: the green.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Room with you.
- 7:20Speaker 3: I mean, I ain't a little fan. So if your
- 7:24Speaker 3: coach don't coach, don't come to the green room with you,
- 7:29Speaker 3: what is that safe for you? Hold on and I'm
- 7:31Speaker 3: gonna throw this curve ball at you. Man, So we
- 7:34Speaker 3: do we take? Uh Diallo?
- 7:37Speaker 2: Do we take?
- 7:38Speaker 3: We gotta take, We're gonna take yellow. But do we take?
- 7:40Speaker 3: I mean, how'm a do not zoom? But are we
- 7:44Speaker 3: gonna take Shade and Shark?
- 7:47Speaker 2: All right? Now? They're not a fan base. Don't want
- 7:49Speaker 2: to take Shark? Well?
- 7:51Speaker 3: Shane shown from high school though here Look, so he
- 7:54Speaker 3: didn't play in Kentucky.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Should we get docked for people who don't make that?
- 8:02Speaker 2: Like like.
- 8:05Speaker 3: For these guys like like like Aberdeen. So he's gonna
- 8:08Speaker 3: go where he signed already?
- 8:11Speaker 2: Has he has? He signed another school?
- 8:13Speaker 4: He's going to Florida?
- 8:15Speaker 3: Sod So is that an asterisk by him? Because he
- 8:19Speaker 3: left and went back? Like?
- 8:21Speaker 2: Should we claim him?
- 8:22Speaker 5: I would I would say no, just because he played there,
- 8:26Speaker 5: already won a championship there. Yeah, he left, but he
- 8:29Speaker 5: is going back. He's gonna play another season. He's gonna
- 8:31Speaker 5: finish his career there. So I would say Florida would
- 8:34Speaker 5: still get to claim him, but he is.
- 8:37Speaker 3: He didn't leave for he was, but he was pretty
- 8:41Speaker 3: much maybe almost next the old way, most instrumental for
- 8:46Speaker 3: our season not being a complete collapse or complete failure.
- 8:50Speaker 3: He played out of position, dude, or he wanted. I
- 8:53Speaker 3: guess he should have played more than two or whatever,
- 8:55Speaker 3: but he was out of position. But he is instrumental
- 8:58Speaker 3: for making sure that our program otherwise, man, just because
- 9:03Speaker 3: you said that, if he doesn't play in that position
- 9:06Speaker 3: as well as he did and you six seven how
- 9:09Speaker 3: well he played it, If he doesn't, Mark Pope, it's
- 9:14Speaker 3: crawling into this season. It ain't now set. The seat
- 9:17Speaker 3: is hot right now, give me lying. It might be
- 9:21Speaker 3: a little warmer. He got a little cushion in between there,
- 9:23Speaker 3: but the seat is hot right now. If he doesn't,
- 9:26Speaker 3: If Aberdeen doesn't adjust to playing the point guard, Rod,
- 9:31Speaker 3: we come into this season. Mark Pope, if you even
- 9:35Speaker 3: go down, you even go down by two points, get
- 9:38Speaker 3: some none ranked opponent theen calling for you if it's
- 9:41Speaker 3: too zero, if you're not comforts, if Everville comes up
- 9:47Speaker 3: and scored the first bucket, hey they booing already.
- 9:50Speaker 2: No, you're right. Look I would say this, you're right man.
- 9:58Speaker 3: If everythen didn't come up here and play decent this,
- 10:03Speaker 3: he might have he might have been fired during the season.
- 10:07Speaker 2: I didn't want to go there.
- 10:08Speaker 3: I didn't want to go there to two seasons for
- 10:11Speaker 3: one of our very own and national championship is rough.
- 10:13Speaker 2: That would be it would be hard to land after that.
- 10:16Speaker 5: I will I will say that if the Eberdeen didn't
- 10:18Speaker 5: set up to the play and kind of filling that
- 10:20Speaker 5: role you guys are talking about, especially in the fact,
- 10:23Speaker 5: I mean he was almost single handily the reason that
- 10:25Speaker 5: UK came back in the game against Louisville, Like he
- 10:28Speaker 5: almost thirty in that game, Like it was one where
- 10:31Speaker 5: you were a little fan, you know, you're really nervous
- 10:33Speaker 5: coming that second half, because if the dude was getting hot,
- 10:35Speaker 5: he felt like he couldn't miss for a little while.
- 10:37Speaker 5: And there was a couple of games where he was
- 10:38Speaker 5: like that. He was probably one of the better on
- 10:40Speaker 5: ball defenders for that team. So I agree with you guys.
- 10:43Speaker 5: If he didn't full and filled with that role. I mean,
- 10:44Speaker 5: it could have been a lot uglier and then there'd
- 10:46Speaker 5: be a lot different conversation about Mark Pube going into
- 10:48Speaker 5: the season.
- 10:50Speaker 3: So I'm not in that case. As you see, Matt,
- 10:53Speaker 3: I'm not with Van on the idea that we got.
- 10:56Speaker 3: We I'm not saying now Florida can take credit for.
- 11:00Speaker 3: But we can't just throw them. We can't just give
- 11:02Speaker 3: them a wash. We can't just throw them away and
- 11:04Speaker 3: say one the bus or whatever. But just the things
- 11:10Speaker 3: that's been going on, like you said, as far as basketball,
- 11:14Speaker 3: and you know, the funny thing, it feels to me,
- 11:19Speaker 3: and that's why I brought up the whole draft thing,
- 11:21Speaker 3: like the draft thing, like I said it ten or
- 11:24Speaker 3: twelve years ago. I can't remember how many years ago
- 11:27Speaker 3: it was that North Carolina. I think they even passed
- 11:30Speaker 3: us for like a week or two or maybe a
- 11:32Speaker 3: couple of weeks as far as the winning team. And
- 11:35Speaker 3: I may be wrong, it may not even be North Carolina.
- 11:37Speaker 3: I'm ninety nine percent sure it was North Carolina.
- 11:40Speaker 2: And so now our.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Fan base or US is you know, Big Blue Nation,
- 11:44Speaker 3: are holding on to our last little hope of you know,
- 11:48Speaker 3: us being you know, there's that conversation that goes on
- 11:51Speaker 3: now if people are blue blo bloods anymore, there's such
- 11:54Speaker 3: thing as a.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Blue blood like Jay Wright is Jay right now?
- 12:00Speaker 3: Now you've got Jalen Brunston is now they considered blue buss.
- 12:05Speaker 3: If you haven't done anything recently, I'm not certain what
- 12:08Speaker 3: point being is. There's always argument about Kentucky trying to
- 12:11Speaker 3: stay relevant, and I don't know does that concern you?
- 12:14Speaker 3: Is there is there a concern for you as a
- 12:16Speaker 3: former Kentucky athlete and a proud member of Big Blue Nation.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Uh No, I'm.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Gonna preface that first. I'm gonna ask you a question.
- 12:26Speaker 3: You know, you shouldn't ask a question with a question,
- 12:28Speaker 3: but I'm asking you a question. Then I'll go for that.
- 12:31Speaker 3: What we were talking about with Aberdeen is everything awesome
- 12:36Speaker 3: McGinnis to Pope. Because awesome McGinnis doesn't doesn't kick that
- 12:40Speaker 3: field goal against Misty, the state stoops, probably doesn't make it.
- 12:46Speaker 3: That's year for whatever it is. Everything it doesn't come
- 12:50Speaker 3: up and play like he did. Is Pope doesn't make
- 12:54Speaker 3: it through your two that should be a poll. Here's
- 12:58Speaker 3: here's the He's just think about the blue blood Anthony,
- 13:02Speaker 3: what is that blue blood?
- 13:04Speaker 2: Honestly? Because now nineteen seventy, Matt, Matt, were you even
- 13:10Speaker 2: born until what two thousand and what?
- 13:15Speaker 4: Ninety nine?
- 13:15Speaker 5: I was born ninety nine? Birth Yeah, yeah, my birthday
- 13:21Speaker 5: is not a compound sentence.
- 13:22Speaker 4: There's no two thousand and in my birthday.
- 13:25Speaker 2: My god, he's one of us.
- 13:27Speaker 3: So think about this, Anthony, All these schools that we
- 13:32Speaker 3: proclaim as blue bloods, A lot of these young cats
- 13:35Speaker 3: have no idea. Same how we talk about football. No
- 13:38Speaker 3: one remembers the nineties, We were in one in ten, right,
- 13:41Speaker 3: no one remember the old chis right?
- 13:44Speaker 2: I remember?
- 13:45Speaker 3: So therefore, who cares? How is UCLA still designated as
- 13:49Speaker 3: the blue blood? How is Indiana still doesn't as when
- 13:53Speaker 3: the last time they'll win a national championship? Now for us,
- 13:57Speaker 3: they might be deemed as a blue blood? Is on
- 14:00Speaker 3: the Matt is on the equator of being one of them.
- 14:05Speaker 3: So like how in Matt's formative years in high school,
- 14:12Speaker 3: it's probably Yukon, And like you said, the.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Villanova, it's not Indiana.
- 14:20Speaker 3: I know Matt knows who Bobby Knight is, but do
- 14:22Speaker 3: you really know who Bobby Knight is?
- 14:24Speaker 2: Man?
- 14:25Speaker 3: Like?
- 14:25Speaker 5: I mean, like I've seen the documentaries of alby n
- 14:27Speaker 5: I obviously I didn't get to witness Bobby Knight myself,
- 14:29Speaker 5: but yeah, I know I know about Bobby Knight.
- 14:32Speaker 2: So it's like, how can we'd even deem them? Are we?
- 14:39Speaker 3: Is it? Us? Kansas and North Carolina the only blue
- 14:43Speaker 3: bloods that have won in the seventies and there's one.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Kind of recent.
- 14:51Speaker 3: Seventies, nineties, two thousand North Carolina. Dude, you can't, Yeah.
- 14:56Speaker 2: But ucon't.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Wasn't desinately the original blue blood though I can't remember
- 15:01Speaker 3: you come back in the seventies, That's.
- 15:03Speaker 2: What I'm saying, you don't.
- 15:07Speaker 3: So it was like, what is I mean? You gotta
- 15:10Speaker 3: tell me what is a blue blood? Because I know
- 15:12Speaker 3: some people say, well, if you have if you have
- 15:16Speaker 3: endured history and you have had national championships and eat, well,
- 15:20Speaker 3: come on, man, that you can't go to the fifties.
- 15:22Speaker 3: It claimed just because you won one of the fifties
- 15:25Speaker 3: and one one the eighties. Come on, that's not That's
- 15:29Speaker 3: not Martinn Dave blue blood. We gotta change what's your
- 15:32Speaker 3: definition of a treat blue blood? And then that probably
- 15:36Speaker 3: needs to change now with nil to transfer portal and
- 15:38Speaker 3: all that stuff. All that's probably gonna change. The playing
- 15:41Speaker 3: field has been has been leveled out because you gotta
- 15:43Speaker 3: think in the nineties football, if Florida, how dominant Florida
- 15:50Speaker 3: was Nebraska Nebraska.
- 15:53Speaker 2: You can't do it for one year and then at
- 15:56Speaker 2: this top.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Yeah, you can't do it, uh that fast. But I
- 16:01Speaker 3: don't know. That's something for us to ponder. You know,
- 16:03Speaker 3: if you want to call in the show, you can
- 16:05Speaker 3: call in the show five zero two three eight four
- 16:08Speaker 3: one four five zero five zero two three eight four
- 16:13Speaker 3: one four five zero or tax it five oh two
- 16:16Speaker 3: four one four one four five zero.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Talk to me, Van and Matt.
- 16:20Speaker 3: We're gonna take a break and when we come back
- 16:22Speaker 3: we will continue the conversation.
- 16:26Speaker 6: Yeah, are we welcome back?
- 16:50Speaker 3: We are in here with Van House and Fa and
- 16:54Speaker 3: Matt covering from Michael Bennett on Just to Catch Radio
- 16:59Speaker 3: you can normally catch on the Locker Wednesday evenings nine am,
- 17:03Speaker 3: nine pm to ten pm.
- 17:05Speaker 2: About what is a blue blood nowadays?
- 17:08Speaker 3: It's the definition of blue blood changing or we hold
- 17:10Speaker 3: on as the UK fans are we holding on to
- 17:13Speaker 3: thread considering ourselves to be a blue blood and we
- 17:17Speaker 3: also since being in our background our football We're gonna
- 17:20Speaker 3: talk a little football as well. But I don't know
- 17:22Speaker 3: what would be the factors man that you would think?
- 17:26Speaker 3: Is it how many? I mean, dude, it's only gonna
- 17:30Speaker 3: be ten champions perjective, there's only ten champions per decade.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Look for me, I think it's longevity. They just can't
- 17:42Speaker 2: hop in and hop out. That's why the Yukon one
- 17:47Speaker 2: is very hard for me.
- 17:50Speaker 3: Because either they're hot a cold, either they are a
- 17:55Speaker 3: champion or they're out for a second round. Can you
- 17:59Speaker 3: truly be a blue if you out first or second
- 18:02Speaker 3: round in multiple years?
- 18:04Speaker 2: Not only multiple years.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Back to back to back years? Like does that make you?
- 18:09Speaker 3: Does that seem like you and you hit lightning in
- 18:12Speaker 3: the bottle? Same to you in Villanova?
- 18:13Speaker 6: Right?
- 18:14Speaker 3: What has Villanova done since Jay Wright has left? It
- 18:18Speaker 3: should also have to do a little bit with are
- 18:21Speaker 3: you able to do it with multiple different coaches? Like
- 18:26Speaker 3: LSU for example. And I don't know why bring an
- 18:28Speaker 3: LSU because I'm not an LSU fan even though I'm
- 18:31Speaker 3: in the Bayou. LSU has won national championship with in
- 18:34Speaker 3: football with multiple coaches.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Like.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Does it have to deal with the coaches? They have
- 18:43Speaker 3: to deal with the players, they have to deal with
- 18:45Speaker 3: the coach. Like, I don't know what you label. I
- 18:48Speaker 3: don't know the true definition in modern day of a
- 18:52Speaker 3: blue blood because I think what my dad would say
- 18:56Speaker 3: is a blue blood is different from what my son
- 18:59Speaker 3: would say as a blue blood. Yeah, as far as
- 19:03Speaker 3: the criteria, like forever, if I'm a program and I
- 19:11Speaker 3: won one in two thousand and five, then when one
- 19:16Speaker 3: in two thousand and fifteen and one in twenty thirty,
- 19:21Speaker 3: am I designated as a blue blood?
- 19:24Speaker 2: I'm a designated as a national champion.
- 19:26Speaker 3: I think the blue blood holds a higher moniker than
- 19:31Speaker 3: and I want to say sometimes to win the national
- 19:34Speaker 3: championship you have to be fortunate, some things have to
- 19:37Speaker 3: go your way, But the integrity of your program, if
- 19:42Speaker 3: it's like this, I'm not sure if you are a
- 19:45Speaker 3: true blue bloo, you're just a national champion. Would you
- 19:48Speaker 3: right now would you rather be a blue blood a
- 19:50Speaker 3: nasal champion? I think listening to you talk, I think
- 19:56Speaker 3: we need to just throw the term blue blood out
- 19:58Speaker 3: of the way. If you if we're based off which
- 20:00Speaker 3: you said, I can really only think of duke that
- 20:03Speaker 3: has a mode of consistency where it ain't along down
- 20:07Speaker 3: the downs or not been long. I hate to say
- 20:09Speaker 3: that in front of our fan base, but if there
- 20:11Speaker 3: has been a lot of downs, because if you think
- 20:16Speaker 3: about even our success, like I said, you go seventies, nineties,
- 20:22Speaker 3: twenty tens, that's that's a long that's a long law. Now,
- 20:26Speaker 3: as you said, when has you say, La been relevant?
- 20:29Speaker 3: When has Indiana been relevant? I even take it to
- 20:31Speaker 3: football that we were talking about, like Matt and your
- 20:34Speaker 3: kids or whatever. Florida was Juggernauts from back when we played.
- 20:38Speaker 3: You go back Steve Spurrier and Miss Smith. Then you
- 20:41Speaker 3: got Tim Tebow. Like you, there's just years Fred Taylor,
- 20:45Speaker 3: Tim Tebow. But now if you asked, if you ask
- 20:49Speaker 3: anybody that's born and Matt just made the cut, but
- 20:53Speaker 3: if you ask somebody's born after two thousands, who Florida?
- 20:56Speaker 2: The game is?
- 20:57Speaker 3: Man, we beat them and me and you know what
- 21:00Speaker 3: it feels like me and you know what it feels
- 21:02Speaker 3: like to go twenty some years sixty seventy point slackens Like,
- 21:07Speaker 3: so do you consider them? I mean Nebraskan football, Florida State, Tennessee,
- 21:15Speaker 3: well the Tennessee like Indiana to meet Tennessee Tennessee like
- 21:22Speaker 3: Penn State. That's that's like them them them, them, them,
- 21:27Speaker 3: unrealistic fan clubs like Clemson. When last time Clempson won
- 21:30Speaker 3: a football national championship after when the last time win
- 21:34Speaker 3: the last time Duke won a national championship ship in basketball,
- 21:39Speaker 3: it's just been a minute. I mean, you just said Duke,
- 21:42Speaker 3: and I thought about it. It's like and is it
- 21:45Speaker 3: only coach K. That's one see when you said us.
- 21:49Speaker 4: Right, yeah, I believe it's only coach K.
- 21:52Speaker 2: It's only coach K when you say us right.
- 21:55Speaker 3: In basketball, in my time of understanding Kentucky, Lord, we
- 22:01Speaker 3: won with.
- 22:01Speaker 2: Potino, Tubby and John c not John Cena cal Perik.
- 22:09Speaker 3: You know we were only three different coaches right right right,
- 22:13Speaker 3: Duke's only one with one.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Because he had I mean because he Allenngevity.
- 22:19Speaker 3: And I will say, and I will say when I
- 22:22Speaker 3: go back to even the Penn State thing before the
- 22:24Speaker 3: unfortunate situation, half of that Penn State, like I said,
- 22:28Speaker 3: I grew up a Michigan fan in the state of Ohio.
- 22:31Speaker 3: Ohio was my secondary school. Penn State was just always
- 22:35Speaker 3: a school that I really respected because of constantly they
- 22:38Speaker 3: gonna get you nine wins. Now, it ain't tough to
- 22:41Speaker 3: win in the big ten whales, I agree with that,
- 22:44Speaker 3: but they gonna get you nine ten wins, and I
- 22:46Speaker 3: can't see a Paterno getting less than nine wins. So
- 22:52Speaker 3: to me, that was a mon of consistency. So that,
- 22:54Speaker 3: to me, that is blue bloods. Like it goes with
- 22:56Speaker 3: what you say, I are blue bloods the teams that
- 22:59Speaker 3: win champimionships throughout different eras or is it the model
- 23:03Speaker 3: of consistency?
- 23:05Speaker 2: So if you want to say, and how many how
- 23:10Speaker 2: many down here? Ninety two? Did none? Not ninety two?
- 23:13Speaker 2: Ninety one? No, ninety two?
- 23:15Speaker 3: When did Alabama Winter National Championship with tig and uh yeah,
- 23:19Speaker 3: last ninety two had to be ninety two because I
- 23:25Speaker 3: went to the junior day and my junior day was
- 23:27Speaker 3: ninety Yeah, had to be ninety two.
- 23:29Speaker 2: And then they went down here ninety three.
- 23:31Speaker 3: Yes, that's what I'm saying. So then we went to
- 23:32Speaker 3: the coach until Nick Satan So they landed Nick Saban.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Well, so they had.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Blue They went to some time a twelve to file
- 23:43Speaker 3: a coach. They had a coach nine two days and
- 23:46Speaker 3: then they had to go to sun. But look, but
- 23:50Speaker 3: here's the thing. They might have went down for a second,
- 23:54Speaker 3: but they can't right back up a second. How long
- 23:58Speaker 3: is the second for you off? For Alabama?
- 24:01Speaker 2: They had twelve thirteen years? Oh, I think it's just
- 24:04Speaker 2: four years.
- 24:05Speaker 4: Would you say they're down right now in Alabama standards?
- 24:09Speaker 3: No? No, No, that's a paternal that's that paternal factor.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:13Speaker 3: I would say this. This is why, man, man, they won,
- 24:16Speaker 3: they won the ninety two. We tore down the gold
- 24:19Speaker 3: post in ninety seven. This is why I would say
- 24:23Speaker 3: they're not down, man. And this is the only reason
- 24:25Speaker 3: I would say this, because they made the playoffs last year.
- 24:29Speaker 3: You can't I just say they're down now. But they
- 24:32Speaker 3: were down longer than you said before ninety two. What
- 24:34Speaker 3: did it look like.
- 24:35Speaker 2: I think they were only down five years. I could
- 24:38Speaker 2: be wrong.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Then that five years is after we beat them. Well,
- 24:43Speaker 3: when did Nicks say you might No? Nick Saban probably Yeah,
- 24:50Speaker 3: it was y'all beat, then y'all beat the what's the
- 24:56Speaker 3: head coach for was for the Giants? Well it wasn't, Well,
- 24:59Speaker 3: wasn't it the quarterback? Who was the head coach for
- 25:04Speaker 3: the John z Jake got fired? Kincher's was already the
- 25:06Speaker 3: quarterback and I think when we beat them, I believe.
- 25:11Speaker 2: I believe so, but I don't know anthem we are
- 25:16Speaker 2: so wrong? Oh oh wait a minute, how we both wrong?
- 25:20Speaker 2: Because because in ninety three they won a national championship.
- 25:26Speaker 2: In ninety I mean ninety two they won champion ninety three,
- 25:29Speaker 2: I thought the wheels fell off. They went nine and three, Okay,
- 25:33Speaker 2: so I was wrong with that.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Then when y'all beat them in ninety seven, there was
- 25:39Speaker 3: four and seven, then went seventy five.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Then they went ten and three and ninety nine. Oh
- 25:44Speaker 2: that was Sean Alexander senior year. Yeah, you're right. They
- 25:47Speaker 2: went to I think they went to SEC championship.
- 25:49Speaker 3: Then they went down again. Freddy Millers and those guys right,
- 25:53Speaker 3: then they went down again. Then they went back up
- 25:56Speaker 3: to ten wins in two thousand and two. So Alabama
- 25:58Speaker 3: had some bumps, it was never bad bad for years.
- 26:02Speaker 5: I feel like football is a lot harder to be
- 26:05Speaker 5: like have that blue blood stature into it, because I
- 26:07Speaker 5: feel you've taken to so many different accounts. You got
- 26:09Speaker 5: to take into all the recruiting aspects, you got to
- 26:11Speaker 5: take into the pedigree of your facilities, you gotta take
- 26:14Speaker 5: into the I feel like football is different than basketball,
- 26:16Speaker 5: and you have to take it into the fan base.
- 26:18Speaker 4: You gotta take into the crowd, the way the crowd acts.
- 26:21Speaker 5: Like that's the thing about the SEC is Like, I mean,
- 26:23Speaker 5: Auburn has been down for the past what five or
- 26:25Speaker 5: six years? They've sold out every single home game for
- 26:29Speaker 5: the last decade, Like they still show up. So like
- 26:31Speaker 5: that's is Auburn a blue blood football program?
- 26:35Speaker 2: Like that?
- 26:37Speaker 5: I'm just saying, like I feel like I feel like
- 26:39Speaker 5: football is different. You have to take into so many
- 26:41Speaker 5: different accounts. So it's harder to be a blue blood
- 26:43Speaker 5: and a sport like football.
- 26:45Speaker 3: Auburn is is such a Auburn has such little brother personality.
- 26:52Speaker 3: Albron has never done anything and the football program as
- 26:56Speaker 3: far as national championships.
- 26:58Speaker 2: So what it was.
- 26:59Speaker 3: CAM and then when was the last time they what
- 27:02Speaker 3: was the what was the span between CAM and the
- 27:05Speaker 3: other one is decade?
- 27:08Speaker 2: When you're talking about the eleven and the eleven and
- 27:10Speaker 2: zero season, they didn't they didn't they didn't win with
- 27:13Speaker 2: with no because that was different. Back the quarterback, what
- 27:16Speaker 2: was the quarterback like Damien Craig, now Damon Craig, he
- 27:20Speaker 2: was after got Dog. I can see him by just
- 27:25Speaker 2: they went eleven. Oh, but they win the Nasal championship, Yeah.
- 27:28Speaker 3: Because it was the rules were crazy then, like penns Satan,
- 27:31Speaker 3: keep you on the carter and them didn't win it
- 27:33Speaker 3: that twelve And I'm just the same way they gave
- 27:36Speaker 3: Universe the Washington Huskies part of the championship with the Hurricanes.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Who knew who? Who?
- 27:41Speaker 3: All the Washington Huskies? I don't know that was the
- 27:44Speaker 3: state over there. I thought it was California, then Canada.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Now you got all these other freaking Oregon in the
- 27:51Speaker 3: Washington trying to deem them football states. It's California and
- 27:54Speaker 3: the mother two states above them and there Vancouver. You
- 27:57Speaker 3: know what I'm saying, Matt is onto something and you
- 28:02Speaker 3: you're making a heck of a lot of sense right now,
- 28:04Speaker 3: and it's kind of irritates me. So we're gonna take
- 28:07Speaker 3: a break and we're gonna recover when we come back
- 28:09Speaker 3: from this.
- 28:20Speaker 2: I don't care.
- 28:21Speaker 5: I'm still around no matter how many records I sell.
- 28:24Speaker 5: After the show, after the Brants.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Show, from back Just Cats Radio, Anthony Right and being Ouse,
- 28:30Speaker 3: We're back uh with uh just got radio taken in
- 28:34Speaker 3: over for Michael Bennett while he's out for a couple
- 28:38Speaker 3: of days. So you have us today and tomorrow from
- 28:41Speaker 3: eight am to ten am, and you could also catch
- 28:44Speaker 3: us every Wednesday from nine pm to ten pm Eastern
- 28:49Speaker 3: Center Time on the locker four one one are we're
- 28:52Speaker 3: talking right now about trying to establish what are the
- 28:55Speaker 3: blue bloods in college sports and blue bloods be be
- 29:00Speaker 3: gone and uh, producer Matt did point out a good
- 29:03Speaker 3: point before we went to break. Van Hous was going
- 29:05Speaker 3: on to tell us how some teams are in blue
- 29:07Speaker 3: blood like the Clemsons, and some of those schools have
- 29:10Speaker 3: won here in their tennesseees. Uh. The one thing that
- 29:15Speaker 3: Matt did point out, which is funny man. And then
- 29:18Speaker 3: we went on another tangient, just kind of talking about,
- 29:20Speaker 3: you know, the programs that we experienced. But Matt's point
- 29:25Speaker 3: is this spot on, you realize a ten and two
- 29:30Speaker 3: season and college football will do nothing for you now
- 29:35Speaker 3: that you know you're not You won't make the playoffs,
- 29:37Speaker 3: which is remarkable. For more if you go back and
- 29:40Speaker 3: look you just we just did on during the break,
- 29:42Speaker 3: looked up some of the teams. Ten win seasons are
- 29:45Speaker 3: rare for almost all programs, maybe Alabama's, but they Alabama,
- 29:51Speaker 3: and I guesaid we talked about before Paterno's situation, maybe
- 29:55Speaker 3: paying State at that point, Ohio State.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Yep.
- 29:59Speaker 3: Then you got the those teams out west who don't
- 30:02Speaker 3: really play like you USC every now and there, who
- 30:04Speaker 3: don't play don't have much competition.
- 30:06Speaker 2: But yeah, so.
- 30:08Speaker 3: Even to be have an opportunity to play for the championship,
- 30:11Speaker 3: ten wins won't get you something where where Matt did
- 30:14Speaker 3: state that you know in basketball, you know you can
- 30:16Speaker 3: lose early, lose three, five, six, eight games and still
- 30:20Speaker 3: have a shot for it at the end of the season.
- 30:24Speaker 2: My mind is turning.
- 30:27Speaker 3: The only programs, man, if you really think about it,
- 30:32Speaker 3: that can be truly listed as a blue blood it's
- 30:36Speaker 3: like Alabama, Ohio State, probably Penn State, Texas and that's it.
- 30:49Speaker 2: I'm scratching my head, see it.
- 30:51Speaker 5: If we're going to count Texas, then I feel like
- 30:54Speaker 5: you have to count schools like almost like a Notre
- 30:58Speaker 5: dame in Miami.
- 30:59Speaker 4: Even though I don't out those like I don't ye.
- 31:01Speaker 3: They are the only reason I say Texas because Royal
- 31:07Speaker 3: was the coach back in the sixty seventies. They won
- 31:10Speaker 3: in and they have won as a recent they have
- 31:14Speaker 3: pretty much been kind of consistent.
- 31:19Speaker 2: It's not like when you play schedule.
- 31:21Speaker 3: They up there with Ohio State, though I agree, I
- 31:23Speaker 3: think though today possibly should be listed, but they independent.
- 31:28Speaker 2: I can't. I can't listen them because they ain't doing
- 31:30Speaker 2: no conference yet.
- 31:31Speaker 3: So you can't get But you can't get Texas. You
- 31:33Speaker 3: cannot get Texas credit for not playing anybody. Well, listen
- 31:38Speaker 3: to the conference that's Southwest. See I'm from the south.
- 31:40Speaker 3: See you you up there in Twinsborough Heights. You don't
- 31:43Speaker 3: understand about the Southwestern Conference that s w C was
- 31:47Speaker 3: a was a base with Texas and m in Oklahoma.
- 31:50Speaker 3: Nah oh, I said, but I you know, I kind
- 31:54Speaker 3: of waived on Texas. But the definities to me Obama,
- 31:58Speaker 3: Ohio State, and probably State. I mean, you think about
- 32:01Speaker 3: the coaches Pennstated have gone through recent and they're still winning.
- 32:04Speaker 3: The coach of Ohio State went through they're still winning.
- 32:08Speaker 3: I'm I'm borderline putting Misigan in there, but I think
- 32:14Speaker 3: you can't put Georgia.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:18Speaker 4: You see.
- 32:18Speaker 5: For me, football goes through like now, I think it's
- 32:21Speaker 5: gonna change now because of transfer portal. You're gonna see
- 32:24Speaker 5: some of the teams be better over and over again,
- 32:25Speaker 5: no matter.
- 32:26Speaker 4: Who their coaches.
- 32:27Speaker 5: But if football went through like eras, like I don't
- 32:30Speaker 5: think there's like genuine like a team is always good.
- 32:33Speaker 4: Like there's the like Ohio States had multiple eras.
- 32:35Speaker 5: There's the Notre Dame era, there's the Miami era, the
- 32:38Speaker 5: Alabama had a really long era. I agree with you.
- 32:40Speaker 5: Georgia is going through like an era right now. Uh
- 32:42Speaker 5: there might we might be in an Indiana era as
- 32:44Speaker 5: where as that sound sounds, but I mean they look
- 32:47Speaker 5: like they're gonna be good again. Football is just in
- 32:50Speaker 5: a it's like like you guys said before, the way
- 32:53Speaker 5: the rules are laid out in that sport only like
- 32:55Speaker 5: for the longest time, only two teams could even have
- 32:58Speaker 5: a chance in the possible in national champions I mean,
- 33:00Speaker 5: so it's hard to say, well, this team has this
- 33:02Speaker 5: made chanmige as this team doesn't.
- 33:04Speaker 4: All these other factors come into play.
- 33:05Speaker 5: So it's like, I guess you have to at least
- 33:08Speaker 5: for me, I compile of which team had like their
- 33:12Speaker 5: era was either the longest or two had multiple shots
- 33:17Speaker 5: at it, like in Ohio State, Like, yeah, they were
- 33:18Speaker 5: down for a little bit, but like just like basketball,
- 33:20Speaker 5: they're back now they're doing just as good now. So
- 33:23Speaker 5: it's a It's an interesting conversation is to think of
- 33:26Speaker 5: which teams that you like, you guys grew up with,
- 33:28Speaker 5: versus the teams that I grew up with. Like you
- 33:30Speaker 5: said before, when I was growing up, Florida was still
- 33:32Speaker 5: really good. Like I told you guys during the break
- 33:35Speaker 5: that I'm actually a little fan. I literally got to
- 33:38Speaker 5: witness Florida's downfall whenever Teddy Bridgewater took them down the
- 33:40Speaker 5: Sugar Bowl. That was the last time Florida has been
- 33:42Speaker 5: relevant almost than anything. And that was what Jeff Driscoll
- 33:45Speaker 5: was their quarterback.
- 33:47Speaker 4: Oh that dude sucked right, he was terrible. So it
- 33:50Speaker 4: was one where I'm in.
- 33:54Speaker 5: It's one where with football I'm constantly interested to see
- 33:56Speaker 5: who's gonna take the next step up, And unfortunately it
- 33:58Speaker 5: looks like it's Indiana right now.
- 34:01Speaker 2: Yeah, you've been your Louisville fan though, man, he says
- 34:04Speaker 2: a Louisville fan glossed over that he can't even enter
- 34:11Speaker 2: this conference. When was Louisville's era?
- 34:14Speaker 4: I never said Lovell had an era?
- 34:16Speaker 2: Well, why would you be a fan of a team
- 34:18Speaker 2: that never had an era?
- 34:19Speaker 5: I grew up around here, and you know they beat
- 34:21Speaker 5: up on Kentucky for most of my life.
- 34:23Speaker 3: You know, it's your life. Tell them about one, man,
- 34:27Speaker 3: tell them about one, and we ain't coming on them all,
- 34:30Speaker 3: And we ain't coming on them all. Mass gonna have
- 34:33Speaker 3: to find two more holds tomorrow. I know he didn't
- 34:36Speaker 3: just try. We look, y'all. I don't know if if
- 34:39Speaker 3: we ain't on we ain't on video. But you got
- 34:42Speaker 3: two former Kentucky players with Kentucky backgrounds and Maddens over
- 34:46Speaker 3: here trying to kind of just gaslight us.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Man.
- 34:49Speaker 3: Oh, what's the era Anthony, Charlie Strong, Charlie that little.
- 34:57Speaker 4: You guys didn't like Jeff bron right now?
- 35:05Speaker 3: Now? Six seven man, you know what six seven means?
- 35:11Speaker 4: Unfortunately, I do know what six seven means.
- 35:13Speaker 3: So that's where that's kind of where we are with
- 35:16Speaker 3: with the Louisville man. I mean, the one national championship
- 35:19Speaker 3: y'all did win in basketball was well, not the one
- 35:24Speaker 3: the most recent, the most recent one.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Well, the former.
- 35:28Speaker 3: Championship that you all won, that's the former championship that
- 35:32Speaker 3: you all won recently, most recent was vacated with, but
- 35:36Speaker 3: it was one with our coach. The coach that we
- 35:39Speaker 3: we groomed, Simon, I don't know. I will I call
- 35:44Speaker 3: Paul the coach that we groomed, doesn't.
- 35:47Speaker 2: Right, man? Listen listen, so listen, no, but listen.
- 35:53Speaker 3: So I think the conclude, honestly to conclude, because next hour,
- 36:00Speaker 3: I do want to for era for you guys, said Aaron.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Here's my thing. It's tough to do.
- 36:08Speaker 3: But if you want to call a team of blue
- 36:10Speaker 3: blood because of championships and wins, I think you have
- 36:12Speaker 3: to have in football, you have to have ten wins
- 36:15Speaker 3: seasons about two three three ish times in a decade,
- 36:22Speaker 3: which that's once every three years. Now, if you if
- 36:26Speaker 3: you don't have a national championship in a decade, if
- 36:29Speaker 3: you if you have two in a decade, and you
- 36:32Speaker 3: do that consistently, which nobody really done. BA Bama is
- 36:37Speaker 3: the only one of recent history basketball or football.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Oh yeah, but you have to do it.
- 36:41Speaker 3: You have to keep doing it every like get one
- 36:43Speaker 3: every decade, get get two wins every decade, and that
- 36:46Speaker 3: that's a very small standard to ask for.
- 36:49Speaker 2: That is a very small standard to ask for.
- 36:51Speaker 3: But but all fans, that's why we got all last
- 36:54Speaker 3: coach fire because he never gonna get.
- 36:55Speaker 2: The two wins again.
- 36:59Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, and so we said the bar so high,
- 37:02Speaker 3: which is I don't know, that's just an interesting topic.
- 37:05Speaker 3: I vote for before we go to break, I vote
- 37:08Speaker 3: for we just do away with the whole term blue
- 37:10Speaker 3: Bloods and we just never revisited again.
- 37:12Speaker 4: I agree.
- 37:13Speaker 3: I agree, hey, Master Grid, because Louisville would would would
- 37:18Speaker 3: never get.
- 37:18Speaker 5: In a conversation that it doesn't exist anymore. You already
- 37:23Speaker 5: said it, so it doesn't matter.
- 37:25Speaker 2: That's Van.
- 37:25Speaker 3: How's I'm Anthony White, matth producers helping us out covering
- 37:28Speaker 3: up Just to Catch Radio.
- 37:30Speaker 2: We'll be back after this.
- 37:34Speaker 4: Man, I did it again, so I'm on the left off.
- 37:39Speaker 4: Oh my.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Love you guys.
- 37:47Speaker 1: M Welcome to Just the Cats with Michael Bennett.
- 37:59Speaker 3: Welcome back Just to Catch Radio an through wide along
- 38:02Speaker 3: with Van House, members of the Locker, producer Matthew who's
- 38:06Speaker 3: a little fans this on air as long as we
- 38:09Speaker 3: can be. Van and I will be hosting today and
- 38:13Speaker 3: tomorrow's show. So if you like what you hear, tune
- 38:15Speaker 3: back in with us tomorrow. We got a whole another
- 38:17Speaker 3: hour of this going on. Van House there was on
- 38:20Speaker 3: the text machine and if you would like to join
- 38:22Speaker 3: the show, if you want to give us a call,
- 38:23Speaker 3: and give us a call five zero two three eight
- 38:26Speaker 3: four fourteen fifty five zero two three eight four fourteen fifty,
- 38:31Speaker 3: or you can text us at five zero two four
- 38:34Speaker 3: one four fourteen fifty and we can you can join
- 38:37Speaker 3: the conversation, which is a lively conversation and I'm enjoying
- 38:40Speaker 3: myself this morning, Van House. Before we went to break,
- 38:43Speaker 3: and we're gonna talk about some of the football things
- 38:45Speaker 3: because that's I think our area of expertise or.
- 38:50Speaker 2: Familiarity.
- 38:51Speaker 3: I'm gonna say, ext Okay, all right, before we went
- 38:55Speaker 3: to break on the Twitter on the text machine, that
- 39:00Speaker 3: was a comment and just as usual per our podcast
- 39:05Speaker 3: on Wednesday nights, you're wrong again because if you put
- 39:11Speaker 3: Texas in the conversation of a blue blood in football
- 39:15Speaker 3: and you leave our Oklahoma, I think you're doing a
- 39:17Speaker 3: great uh injustice and injustice anywhere and everywhere.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Would you agree with that? And that's pretty good? That's
- 39:31Speaker 2: pretty good A week after June teenth, that's pretty good.
- 39:36Speaker 3: Oklahoma should probably be in because they did it with
- 39:39Speaker 3: some If you can do it with Lincoln Riley, you
- 39:43Speaker 3: probably need to be in the If you can win
- 39:45Speaker 3: double digits with Lincoln Riley. You probably need that probably
- 39:48Speaker 3: just automatically elevates you to the next level. So you're
- 39:52Speaker 3: probably right, You probably right. You know what, I probably
- 39:55Speaker 3: wouldn't put Texas in there, but I was trying to
- 39:58Speaker 3: not be southeast conscious. I tried to venture off a
- 40:02Speaker 3: little bit to the west and give them, throw them
- 40:04Speaker 3: a carrot, throw them a bone.
- 40:06Speaker 2: You're probably right.
- 40:07Speaker 3: I probably leave textans out there, and they just do
- 40:09Speaker 3: you know, Louisiana you can go straight vertical. All the
- 40:13Speaker 3: people west of Louisiana don't. I tried to be nice.
- 40:18Speaker 3: And now whoever's on the text chain you know have
- 40:21Speaker 3: Now I gotta be real. Everybody west of Louisiana don't matter.
- 40:26Speaker 3: So I'm taking Texas in Oklahoma. All all right, I'll.
- 40:29Speaker 4: Scratched textans so Nebraska doesn't count.
- 40:33Speaker 2: Nah, Now, the Nebraska's have been relevant since Frost. But
- 40:40Speaker 2: who's the guy after him?
- 40:42Speaker 1: Was it?
- 40:43Speaker 2: Frost was the last one? And Frost was the last one.
- 40:45Speaker 2: I can't remember that when? When? When is? When is
- 40:49Speaker 2: Nebraska one? Now? They beat the dog out of Florida
- 40:54Speaker 2: that year, the Phillips and free and yet you know
- 41:00Speaker 2: I was.
- 41:02Speaker 3: Lawrence phil is a big man, I met Lawrence Phip
- 41:05Speaker 3: Phillips when I was with the Rams in the Rams camp.
- 41:08Speaker 2: Bruh, that's a big dude. I didn't realize he was
- 41:11Speaker 2: that big.
- 41:11Speaker 3: They say he's a line back, they say it's a
- 41:14Speaker 3: linebacker running back. He's a linebacker playing running back in
- 41:18Speaker 3: the linebacker's body. Dude, that's the speed, with the speed
- 41:21Speaker 3: of a wide receiver. That's a big dude.
- 41:23Speaker 4: Man.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't imagine.
- 41:26Speaker 3: Yeah, the Nebraska hasn't done anything. So who I want
- 41:30Speaker 3: with Osbourne? What's the guy that was after Osbourne? That
- 41:34Speaker 3: that that that coach and Ohio sol It sol It
- 41:39Speaker 3: I don't I don't even know. I just remember that's it. Yeah,
- 41:44Speaker 3: haven't done anything since. Well, if if Mask gonna throw
- 41:50Speaker 3: if we're talking about lunch jail, we're not talking about.
- 41:52Speaker 3: If Mask gonna throw Nebraska in there, then we're gonna
- 41:55Speaker 3: move along. But if maxk go throw Nebraska in there,
- 41:58Speaker 3: I'm gonna say you is Oregon. We're talking about consistency
- 42:04Speaker 3: nine ten. No, we're not talking about recency. Man, you
- 42:07Speaker 3: got where Keey Smith play at?
- 42:10Speaker 2: Wait? What like they that all I asked you for?
- 42:14Speaker 3: Hold on, Matt van All, I asked you for, was
- 42:18Speaker 3: one or two really decent seasons per decade?
- 42:22Speaker 2: Okay, talking about one or.
- 42:24Speaker 3: Two ten wins seasons, well, two ten win seasons per day.
- 42:27Speaker 3: And I don't know if they have or not, but
- 42:29Speaker 3: I know Oregon just keeps constantly popping up. Is relevant
- 42:33Speaker 3: aun decades you're gonna go back because that matters.
- 42:38Speaker 5: If we're taking like national championships out of accomp So
- 42:41Speaker 5: it doesn't matter how many you've won, it doesn't matter
- 42:43Speaker 5: that stuff. You have to put Oregon in that because
- 42:45Speaker 5: they did it in an era where like money technically
- 42:48Speaker 5: didn't matter. It was just recruiting, right, It was the
- 42:51Speaker 5: facilities and they you know, they obviously had the Nike backing,
- 42:53Speaker 5: so that helped them a lot. But now they're in
- 42:55Speaker 5: the Nile area where they have infinite money. Oregon is
- 42:58Speaker 5: gonna be here for the rest of our life. It's
- 43:00Speaker 5: never gonna go away, whether they win or not. So
- 43:03Speaker 5: it depends on how much you how heavy you weigh. Okay,
- 43:07Speaker 5: they're getting it done on the highest level. How much
- 43:09Speaker 5: does that matter compared to recruiting and all that stuff.
- 43:12Speaker 3: All I'm gonna say is when I was playing football,
- 43:17Speaker 3: argon was irrelevant Oregon didn't come into relevancy into the
- 43:21Speaker 3: two thousands.
- 43:22Speaker 2: No, that's not true.
- 43:24Speaker 3: You had you you played, so you played with the
- 43:27Speaker 3: leather helmets. Wait a man, when where did it?
- 43:29Speaker 2: Wait? I might be absolutely.
- 43:31Speaker 3: Wrong, and I think I I hate to think that
- 43:33Speaker 3: I'm fumbling this.
- 43:34Speaker 2: But where did uh? Where did Keilly Smith come from? Them? Argon? Yeah?
- 43:41Speaker 2: He was?
- 43:42Speaker 3: Him and Tim Couch were so. And Tim Couch is
- 43:44Speaker 3: only two three years younger than you.
- 43:47Speaker 2: So he was. That was right?
- 43:49Speaker 3: When so they had they had one of the they
- 43:51Speaker 3: had arguably the top quarterback in the nation going into
- 43:55Speaker 3: the NFL draft because it was between Tim and Achille
- 43:58Speaker 3: who was going to be drafted by the Browns or
- 44:00Speaker 3: the Bengals. Hold an, are we talking about players? Are
- 44:05Speaker 3: we talking about programs? Because we talked about we're gonna
- 44:09Speaker 3: have some pretty good, some pretty good players. Off that
- 44:15Speaker 3: winn in ten season, Melvin Johnson went second.
- 44:17Speaker 2: And second round. Don't that don't matter? Look, okay, before
- 44:24Speaker 2: nineteen ninety nine, Augen never had a teen one season.
- 44:30Speaker 3: Never how many of the Achilles don win? Now, mind
- 44:33Speaker 3: you was only eleven game season. I modified that the
- 44:37Speaker 3: ten wins because it's twelve games now A ninety nine
- 44:40Speaker 3: or or ninety eight ninety His season was ninety eight,
- 44:44Speaker 3: his draft was ninety.
- 44:45Speaker 2: Nine ninety eight. They won eight games. Okay, that's three
- 44:50Speaker 2: three longs. Wha are we are? We? Hey? Are we
- 44:55Speaker 2: giving participation? Said?
- 44:56Speaker 5: Now?
- 44:58Speaker 2: Participation trophy?
- 44:59Speaker 3: God?
- 44:59Speaker 2: Now?
- 45:00Speaker 3: Eight wins, ten games? Ten games is based off a
- 45:03Speaker 3: twelve game schedule? No back in those No for me,
- 45:07Speaker 3: I said. When I said ten wins, I meant based
- 45:10Speaker 3: off a twelve game schedule. They're playing eleven, right, So
- 45:18Speaker 3: that means they lost the two that I give you,
- 45:20Speaker 3: and there wasn't a cupcake back then either.
- 45:23Speaker 2: Man, It's fine.
- 45:23Speaker 3: I don't argue. I do not argue that. I do
- 45:27Speaker 3: not argue that you can have that.
- 45:30Speaker 4: So Ever, since basically I've been alive, obviously I start.
- 45:33Speaker 4: I was born ninety nine. So if that's the case,
- 45:36Speaker 4: So like they said, they.
- 45:37Speaker 5: Weren't really great in the eighties, the seventies, the nineties,
- 45:40Speaker 5: how much of what they're doing now since two thousand,
- 45:43Speaker 5: the two thousands, how much more consistently do they have
- 45:46Speaker 5: to do that? Before you say, okay, now I can
- 45:49Speaker 5: put them in that up rush like is it the
- 45:51Speaker 5: twenty thirties?
- 45:52Speaker 4: Is how much longer does it have to be That's the.
- 45:54Speaker 3: Whole thing with the blue bluss, That's what because that's
- 45:57Speaker 3: what basketball is claiming, Like you wanted a fifties you
- 46:00Speaker 3: were blue? Like where do we cut off the criteria?
- 46:05Speaker 3: Like when does those years not matter anymore? That's what
- 46:08Speaker 3: my claim is, Like Villanova is probably relevant now, but
- 46:14Speaker 3: they were what they.
- 46:15Speaker 2: Want one to eighties.
- 46:17Speaker 3: Then they won't the in the teams like that's a
- 46:21Speaker 3: whole stretch of basketball they win, they weren't even not
- 46:24Speaker 3: only did they not win, they were not relevant because
- 46:26Speaker 3: to me, it's not about we know the difficulty in
- 46:30Speaker 3: winning that we know the difficulty and win a conference championship,
- 46:33Speaker 3: let alone a national championship. So for me, if you
- 46:36Speaker 3: just based off a national championship, I think that's a
- 46:40Speaker 3: that's a flaw scale of being a whatever you want
- 46:44Speaker 3: to call it, blue blow, whatever you want to call it.
- 46:46Speaker 3: It's consistency and if you are consistent, But now we
- 46:51Speaker 3: got to say how long are you consistent? That's that's
- 46:54Speaker 3: why I step about like because if you think about
- 46:58Speaker 3: us in basketball, we have been pretty consistent. We've had
- 47:01Speaker 3: some down years, but consistency over decades, over decades, right, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 47:08Speaker 3: But we haven't won a national championship area all the time.
- 47:11Speaker 2: We've gone through laws of not win. But the consistency.
- 47:15Speaker 3: So but no, man, we have that basketball wise, we
- 47:20Speaker 3: have that. We have that Ohio State football syndrome too, though,
- 47:24Speaker 3: and it's changing here recently in the past ten or
- 47:26Speaker 3: fifteen years. But if you don't win SEC championship anymore,
- 47:31Speaker 3: and like I said, you win thirty games, say you
- 47:34Speaker 3: win thirty games, twenty eight, twenty nine, thirty games, that's
- 47:37Speaker 3: that's consistent.
- 47:37Speaker 2: Thirty games is consistent.
- 47:39Speaker 3: But if you playing all your out of conference games,
- 47:42Speaker 3: you lose all your out of conference games, Gonzaga, North Carolina, Kansas,
- 47:46Speaker 3: you losing all those.
- 47:48Speaker 2: How relevant are you if your conference sucks.
- 47:51Speaker 3: So here's here's the thing with that. I do agree
- 47:54Speaker 3: with you, the consistence. Here's the thing with that, and
- 47:56Speaker 3: then we can move on. Here's the thing with that,
- 47:58Speaker 3: right is we the moment we look at those things,
- 48:03Speaker 3: But my grandchild's not gonna look back and look at oh,
- 48:05Speaker 3: well I lost to Kansas. You come, they just see
- 48:08Speaker 3: the win total, right, right, But the funny you get
- 48:10Speaker 3: away the more that just.
- 48:13Speaker 2: Those those wins matter.
- 48:15Speaker 3: It's just like we go to our football schedule, right,
- 48:19Speaker 3: some of those years we didn't beat that.
- 48:21Speaker 2: We still haven beat Georgia yet, right, So it's like you.
- 48:27Speaker 3: Won nine games in the regular season, Matt, we don't
- 48:30Speaker 3: come to play the bowl game. We won nine games
- 48:33Speaker 3: in the regular season. But if you look at you have.
- 48:36Speaker 2: Four games, four non conference Louisville, the Coastal schools where
- 48:42Speaker 2: we should win.
- 48:43Speaker 3: Heard that match, so we should win the Louisville and
- 48:46Speaker 3: the three Coastal max schools. Right, So now they get
- 48:50Speaker 3: the nine how many games you were really winning? Yeah,
- 48:56Speaker 3: but when you look back at it, those bro, we
- 48:59Speaker 3: won ten games. You don't look at who you play.
- 49:02Speaker 2: So I don't know. Man, Now now I'm backtracking on
- 49:07Speaker 2: what my crightteria is.
- 49:08Speaker 3: That's exactly That's why, that's why you got to throw
- 49:11Speaker 3: the whole thing out, because like you said, I say,
- 49:13Speaker 3: and here's here's and this is what I was thinking
- 49:15Speaker 3: about the whole time you were talking. That's what I
- 49:16Speaker 3: was thinking about. Mike Thommlin, go.
- 49:26Speaker 2: Below five hundred in your career.
- 49:29Speaker 3: So if you were a program, now mind you, I said,
- 49:31Speaker 3: I put successful as nine ten wins in football. If
- 49:37Speaker 3: you just don't have no five wins seasons six. If
- 49:41Speaker 3: what if you seven eight up? You just seven eight up.
- 49:44Speaker 3: That's consistency in a sense. Now you a different tier
- 49:49Speaker 3: if you if you were Georgia has been for the
- 49:51Speaker 3: past ten fifteen years in Alabama where it's nine, ten,
- 49:56Speaker 3: eleven and things like that. I'm don't don't don't he.
- 50:02Speaker 3: Here's the thing about Mike t du You made it
- 50:06Speaker 3: to the.
- 50:07Speaker 2: Playoffs every year and you want two Super Bowls. Mike,
- 50:15Speaker 2: Mike tomlin Is is off any any criteria of debating
- 50:21Speaker 2: if he could he unless you're talking about if he's
- 50:24Speaker 2: a Hall of Fame coach, easy, one of the best
- 50:26Speaker 2: coach in the NFL history. If that's not your if
- 50:30Speaker 2: keep Mike Tombs out to Mac. That's Van.
- 50:35Speaker 3: How's Anthony White And we will continue the conversation after this.
- 50:38Speaker 2: We'll be back. And I found you by leave Nick
- 50:45Speaker 2: me want to say, oh.
- 50:53Speaker 3: My god, largest marginal victory seventy three point Kentucky.
- 51:01Speaker 2: She was saying the second popper dropping as a lady,
- 51:07Speaker 2: welcome back.
- 51:08Speaker 3: Just to catch Radio Anthony White with Van House above
- 51:12Speaker 3: the lockers, which you can catch every Wednesday evening nine
- 51:15Speaker 3: pm Eastern Standard Time to ten pm Ish Eastern Standard time.
- 51:21Speaker 3: We're talking blue bluffs? Would you like to see the
- 51:24Speaker 3: term blue bloods done away with? What is the standards
- 51:26Speaker 3: for blue blood But we both are football players, and
- 51:32Speaker 3: I wanted to ask our producer, who's a UK who's
- 51:35Speaker 3: a U of L supporter? Sitting here with two former
- 51:40Speaker 3: UK football players? Since is football seasons right around the corner.
- 51:43Speaker 3: I'm trying to keep up with Corey Price. I think
- 51:45Speaker 3: it's seventy one days until the first game, seventy one
- 51:50Speaker 3: or seventy seventy or seventy one.
- 51:52Speaker 2: I believe it's seventy one.
- 51:55Speaker 3: How do you what does it feel like, Matt, that
- 51:58Speaker 3: your former quarterback, Teddy Bridgewater's backup uh Louisville High School
- 52:05Speaker 3: quarterbacks start is now the head coach at the University
- 52:09Speaker 3: of Kentucky.
- 52:10Speaker 2: So he played for you all when that was before
- 52:13Speaker 2: you even born.
- 52:14Speaker 5: No, he was one of the like early quarterbacks like
- 52:18Speaker 5: for me, so like whenever I started like really getting
- 52:20Speaker 5: into sports. So that was like what twenty tens, Like
- 52:23Speaker 5: that was like twenty tens to twenty eleven. And he
- 52:25Speaker 5: was playing there right before k Teddy Bridgewater came in. Obviously,
- 52:30Speaker 5: you know he's a great quarterback, played all four seasons
- 52:34Speaker 5: until Teddy Bridgewater took over. Wasn't ever like, you know,
- 52:37Speaker 5: a Heisman candidate kind of guy.
- 52:39Speaker 2: He was.
- 52:40Speaker 5: He was a pretty i'd say, in the realm of
- 52:42Speaker 5: college football, he's a pretty average quarterback. But you know,
- 52:44Speaker 5: I grew up with him and or not with him,
- 52:47Speaker 5: but grew up watching him, obviously, And it was definitely
- 52:50Speaker 5: a shock whenever I saw that he was going to UK. Obviously,
- 52:54Speaker 5: I knew that he was grew up a Kentucky fan,
- 52:56Speaker 5: His family were Kentucky fans whatever. He was living out
- 52:58Speaker 5: here around the Saint Matthews area in Louisville and stuff
- 53:00Speaker 5: like that, So it wasn't like a I can't believe
- 53:03Speaker 5: he would do this kind of thing. I understand that,
- 53:06Speaker 5: you know, he's always been in Kentucky fan his whole life,
- 53:08Speaker 5: so he kind of wants to give back to the
- 53:09Speaker 5: school that he loved as a kid.
- 53:11Speaker 4: I'm excited. Though.
- 53:13Speaker 5: I got to actually talk with him on this show
- 53:15Speaker 5: maybe about a month or two ago, and I had
- 53:17Speaker 5: a question. My question for him was, would you actually
- 53:21Speaker 5: have preferred if your first game against Louisville was in
- 53:26Speaker 5: Cardinal Stadium instead of being in Lexington just because you like,
- 53:31Speaker 5: I get that, like growing up as an athlete myself,
- 53:34Speaker 5: you know, you always play like and you guys are
- 53:36Speaker 5: athletes as well in college and stuff like that. They're
- 53:37Speaker 5: like even if it's not your team, Like like Anthony,
- 53:40Speaker 5: you said that you grew up, you know, around the Michigan,
- 53:41Speaker 5: Ohio area, and that was like you were big fans
- 53:43Speaker 5: of those You take a little bit of credibility in
- 53:46Speaker 5: the place you played ball at, you know what I mean,
- 53:47Speaker 5: Like you take a credibility and like you think, okay,
- 53:49Speaker 5: this is my team now. I grew up with this culture.
- 53:51Speaker 5: So I asked him, I was like, I know you
- 53:54Speaker 5: were Kentucky fan as a kid, but would you have
- 53:57Speaker 5: enjoyed playing in Cardinals or coaching against Louisville and Cardinals
- 54:01Speaker 5: Stadium as your first game to kind of have your
- 54:03Speaker 5: own kind of like anti hero homecoming. And he kind
- 54:07Speaker 5: of laughed at it, you know, he wasn't like he
- 54:09Speaker 5: didn't give me like a oh, yeah, of course I
- 54:10Speaker 5: want to play Cardinal Stadium. He was He gave an
- 54:12Speaker 5: honest coach answer of like, yeah, of course, I'm excited
- 54:15Speaker 5: to play against my former team and it's gonna be
- 54:17Speaker 5: fun and this and that. But he gave a little
- 54:19Speaker 5: chuckle that like, okay, that you know I kind of would.
- 54:22Speaker 5: So I'm actually really excited to watch, you know, Jeff
- 54:27Speaker 5: Brohm and Louisville Cardinals go against their former quarterback in
- 54:30Speaker 5: will Stein. I want to say that as much as
- 54:33Speaker 5: I dislike Kentucky, I constantly am looking for reasons to
- 54:39Speaker 5: dislike will Stein and I can't. I can't do it
- 54:42Speaker 5: like he's He was a part of my life growing up.
- 54:44Speaker 5: I love the dude. I wish him as much success
- 54:46Speaker 5: as possible. I just hope it's not against my favorite team.
- 54:51Speaker 2: Man.
- 54:52Speaker 3: I mean, I kind of liked what Matt said, and
- 54:54Speaker 3: what it makes me think about was the ninety seven
- 54:58Speaker 3: year when haw Mummy came in and we played Louisville
- 55:02Speaker 3: and Lexington and everybody heard about the air raid offense.
- 55:05Speaker 3: They heard we didn't hit him practice, we didn't wear
- 55:06Speaker 3: full paths, and Louis.
- 55:08Speaker 2: Was gonna do this and that to them.
- 55:09Speaker 3: They were gonna do everything, all these different kinds of
- 55:11Speaker 3: things to us, and man, we lit the scoreboard up
- 55:14Speaker 3: on them. Now here's where I differ with Matt, and
- 55:17Speaker 3: I do I do like Matt's what he said, I
- 55:19Speaker 3: do like, I do agree with him, but I think
- 55:23Speaker 3: because will Stein, and the conversation happens about William Stein
- 55:27Speaker 3: because Mama calls him Williams. So I'm gonna call him
- 55:29Speaker 3: William William Stein, the new head coach of the University
- 55:32Speaker 3: of Kentucky football team. Louis is coming to us the
- 55:35Speaker 3: last game of the season. So they're coming to Lexton, Kentucky.
- 55:39Speaker 3: So his former team is coming here, and we're gonna b.
- 55:45Speaker 4: Bt is first first.
- 55:48Speaker 3: Now now, hold on, Matt, Now here's the thing. Hopefully
- 55:52Speaker 3: next year we moved that game to the first.
- 55:54Speaker 2: Game of the season.
- 55:55Speaker 4: I hope we do that too.
- 55:57Speaker 3: And this is why I think it'd be cool. Man,
- 55:59Speaker 3: tell him if you agree with me or you agree
- 56:00Speaker 3: with Matt. Cool for us to bt A here, oh man,
- 56:06Speaker 3: only because only because y'all were at home. Only because hey,
- 56:10Speaker 3: hold on, hold on, watch this, Hey hold my beer right.
- 56:15Speaker 2: Right back at it. I feel you. Back to back games, dude.
- 56:22Speaker 5: Does it worry you guys at all? Like, yes, he's
- 56:25Speaker 5: he was one of the best offensive coordinators in the country.
- 56:27Speaker 5: He got it done at the highest level at Oregon.
- 56:29Speaker 5: Play you know, he's in multiple playoffs. Is there any
- 56:32Speaker 5: inkling of you know, anxiety that he's a guy who
- 56:36Speaker 5: has who hasn't been a head coach in a college
- 56:39Speaker 5: football player at college foball level before and now he's
- 56:42Speaker 5: a head coach for an SEC team. Is there any
- 56:43Speaker 5: inkling anxiety at all behind that?
- 56:46Speaker 6: No, The.
- 56:48Speaker 3: Arguably the best coach in UK history was Deeps, the
- 56:50Speaker 3: coordinator of Florida State before he came here. I would say, here,
- 56:55Speaker 3: here's what I would say. There's been a lot of
- 56:59Speaker 3: good coordination. When you're coordinator, you are leading a team.
- 57:04Speaker 3: It might be only half the team, but you are
- 57:07Speaker 3: leading a team.
- 57:07Speaker 2: Now. If he was just a not just I don't
- 57:09Speaker 2: want to say that, if he was a.
- 57:10Speaker 3: Position coach elevating to head coach, I might have a
- 57:14Speaker 3: little sense of pause.
- 57:16Speaker 2: But not only has he been.
- 57:18Speaker 3: A coordinator, he was a coordinator at Oregon, not at
- 57:22Speaker 3: Middle Tennessee State, not at University Louise and La Fat.
- 57:27Speaker 2: He was at an institution with.
- 57:29Speaker 3: Resources, and I'm sure that that ecosystem required a whole
- 57:35Speaker 3: lot of it.
- 57:37Speaker 2: It permeated to him just being around it.
- 57:39Speaker 3: So I would say I feel better about him than
- 57:43Speaker 3: some other coaches that we we we thought about fans
- 57:48Speaker 3: thought that we would hire.
- 57:51Speaker 2: I like the hire.
- 57:53Speaker 3: I like the youth of it, because now you can't
- 57:58Speaker 3: be fifty sixty years old getting into this situation with
- 58:01Speaker 3: the current landscape.
- 58:04Speaker 2: So I like that.
- 58:06Speaker 3: The only thing that is disadvantage that you say, man,
- 58:08Speaker 3: is the SEC and can we get SEC dudes. That's
- 58:13Speaker 3: the problem because just like we now, as we talked
- 58:17Speaker 3: about the locker Wednesdays not being the Eastern standard time,
- 58:20Speaker 3: we talked about we all getting enamed. With these high
- 58:23Speaker 3: school kids committing, how many are we gonna be be
- 58:27Speaker 3: able to hold on? We just had one flip this week.
- 58:30Speaker 3: How many others are gonna flip? That's the concern. But
- 58:35Speaker 3: I like the we we threw out. I think like
- 58:37Speaker 3: twenty some high school commits. If we can keep half
- 58:42Speaker 3: of them, like we talked the win we keep half
- 58:44Speaker 3: of them, I think that's gonna be a very good
- 58:46Speaker 3: recruiting class. Our buffer with this though, when Stoops at
- 58:53Speaker 3: the end of his career started getting high three star recruits,
- 58:57Speaker 3: people start getting, Oh, that's not good enough, that's not
- 59:02Speaker 3: good enough. We need four stars. That's basically what we're
- 59:05Speaker 3: getting now. Were getting hired three star recruits. Now the
- 59:08Speaker 3: only difference is probably they're on more on offense, and
- 59:12Speaker 3: I guess we'll get given Will Stein and Joe Sloan
- 59:15Speaker 3: the benefit of the doubt because their offensive gurus and
- 59:17Speaker 3: maybe their their eye sets that they're gonna be better
- 59:21Speaker 3: than what we felt. If Mark Stoops got a three
- 59:24Speaker 3: star offensive player win, our offense was not hit no much.
- 59:27Speaker 2: So well, we'll see.
- 59:30Speaker 3: I like the direction of the program, and we have
- 59:35Speaker 3: to temper a little bit.
- 59:36Speaker 2: We ain't winning ten games this year. We ain't winning
- 59:40Speaker 2: nine games this year. Lord, if we can win one
- 59:43Speaker 2: of these, I know people not we are right.
- 59:50Speaker 3: No, I think I like I initially I didn't really
- 59:55Speaker 3: love the higher but now getting to you know, off
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: the wheel and Will is, like Van said, Will to
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: me as a younger half mummy, a guy came.
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: With a with a with a vision, came with an ambition.
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: And it's one thing that I know that I've heard
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: through throughout the coaching staff, throughout the ranks. Uh.
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: You know, friends a lot of coaches and spend spend
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: a lot of time with them.
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: That man the energy that the players all say, the
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: energy is there. And I know Stoops was getting a
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: little bit older. Stoops went through a lot of things
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: at the end of his at the end of his
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: career at Kentucky, like I mean, a lot of personal
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: tons of personal issues they went through. It has to
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: be tough to show up every day, uh, you know,
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: like man said, And when you get four wins and
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: then the team down the street want to steal your
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: recruiting coordinator.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: I don't know how y'all did that.
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: I mean, I guess, I guess if you're a little
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: of a fan though you Matt, y'all just don't play fair,
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: like y'all don't give a damn about rules that's obvious,
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: and your staff, and you want to steal our people.
- 1:00:57Speaker 5: But Tuck's football team got like half of Love's old
- 1:00:59Speaker 5: staff on there on the squad right now.
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: You just we wanted to clean him off.
- 1:01:08Speaker 4: Y'all got Lamar Newson's Hesman Trophy in your recruiting.
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: Room, rebaptized him after rebaptized, Yeah, we're gonna get him together.
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: But no, but the point was Will came in with energy.
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: I mean, he's invigorated the program. I think I do
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: think Mark Stoops, as Van said, probably arguably probably the
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: greatest coach right now in the history of UK football.
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: He got stale after a while, it just got still.
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: You gotta think about it. Van Taylor from on Phil Farmer,
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: Bobby Bowden, like I said, I hate he keep throwing
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: Paterno out there because pternal red.
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: But even at his old man.
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: They ran on the sideline and the player hit this
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: eighty some year hotel and knocked him down.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: And he was back. He was back on the sideline
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: next week.
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: But so I do, like what will brother Matt ass
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: I do have a little pause.
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: I do have a little concern.
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: That, you know, he's still young and anxious, but you
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: know when you're young and anxious, sometimes you jump off
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: that porch and man, things A things ain't what you thought.
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: This is sec which may eloquently pointed out Matt, this
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: ain't the.
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: Uh that that Atlantic Coast. Yeah, this ain't the Yeah,
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: this ain't the ACC. Like this ain't the ACC.
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: But no, But I like everything he's doing, and the
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: only like advance that the only other concern you have
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: is not certain that he's getting the studs that he
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: needs to to do what he wants to do. But again,
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: I have faith in his offense, and I have faith
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: in this system that no matter where you plug and play.
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: Because Van was on the team that was defense was
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: ranked in the top ten, offense was ranked the bottom
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: bottom one hundred and because one hundred they would be
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: low one hundred and ten. One year later, that same
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: offense is ranked in the top five. The same not
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: the same offense, the same players are ranked in the
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: top five in the country.
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: And the defense right way defense.
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: So if you come in with the right mindset and
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: that Jay Bateman, I think he's gonna come in and
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: do some great things. I think, you know, he's gonna
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: keep the defense off balanced. I think we getting enough
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: talent in. But I do think Will william Stein is
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: the right It's probably the right higher. He wants to
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: be here, the biggest things he wants to be here.
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: He's not gonna take days off. He's not taking days
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: off because the coaches and the people that I know
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: that ever since Oregon lost in the playoffs and Will
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: has gotten in town, they're on the road, they're in
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: the offense. They're going to visit kids where you know,
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: I know sometimes you know we off this we off
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: for a couple No, Will ain't taking no time off.
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: I don't think he see failure as an option.
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: So when we when we when we when we put
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: the I'm gonna be thinking about you, Uh, Matt, when
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: when they start putting that b to the A. Hey, hey, Anthony,
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: were back on the show. We that Monday after We're
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: back on the show.
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: Are you right that is true? Yeah?
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: Yeah, Hey tell Michael, Matt taill, Michael, what date is that?
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: They don't matter we're back. Hey, Hey, it don't matter.
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: I'm scratching that day off.
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: Regarding Unfortunately, I won't even be on the show that.
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: You get fired because of us.
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: No, I moved to Florida next week.
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: Oh man, they said, they said, just the backup, Paul.
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: Oh back up. I'm a starter. They gonna have. I
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: gotta I gotta find a replacement.
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: Uh, Teddy Bridgewater, you.
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: Don't talk about my goat like that. Don't talk about
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: my goat.
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: At November thirty, we back put that in the book.
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: Then before you leave, put that in the book.
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: Man, I got you.
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: As we talked about it on the locker. Look, here's
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: the thing.
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: I think will Stearn Studs can get us to six
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: to seven wins for sure. I think he can elevate
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: the offense right now, next year to six or seven
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: wins as we talk to the locker, let's let's see
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: what Michael Bennett folks think.
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: But here's the thing. You can't lord the standard though,
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: absolutely not. You can't.
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: You cannot lower six wins being okay again because if
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: six wins was okay, you shouldn't have got rid of
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: old coach. Maybe if we win six games, this is
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: not a great season for us. If if you expected
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: the previous regime to win nine ten games again, yeah, yeah,
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: the expectations doesn't change. I mean, hey, I mean I
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: know that Louisville man, they were they were at five six.
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: So when Jeff Brown comes to win seven, I mean,
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: that's cool with them.
- 1:06:08Speaker 5: Scott does not count. We don't even count Scott's oder
- 1:06:13Speaker 5: field in this area.
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: That dude is. That dude is a terrorist to football.
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: You can just throw out, you can throw out the
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: stuff you don't like. That.
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: There there again goes that Louisville mentality. And if we
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: don't like, we'll just cheat or just change the numbers.
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: So that nineteen ninety four season didn't happen, and we
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: cannot ever talk about nineteen ninety four season ever again, right, what's.
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: That mar season they got vacated. You can't talk about
- 1:06:37Speaker 4: that one either.
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: Well, then if you take that ninety four season away
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: and that takes that one win away too. Oh, you're right,
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: that's Ben Howes Man. We're gonna take a break. We
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: will continue to show when we come back after this.
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: You see the husband get me. Welcome back Just to
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: Cat Radio.
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: Anthony White van House of the Locker, filling in for
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: Michael Bennett on Just to Cat Radio. If you like
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: to join the show, we got one more segment, lively
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: conversation going here. Our producer in Louisville is a Louisville
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: fan and with two former UK athletes, so it's pretty interesting.
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: My career has taken me. But you know, I guess
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: we're figuring that out.
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: The guy's a good sport man. I guess.
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: I guess Michael Bush or or Teddy Bridgewater wasn't available,
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: so they brought If you like to join the show
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: five zero two three eight four, fourteen fifty, or you
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: could text the show five zero two four to one
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: four or fourteen fifty. Yeah, I mean this man, I
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: know most of that match. Just to be honest, Before
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: we can continue the direction of the show. All right,
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: are most.
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: Of our listeners UK fans because it's just the cats.
- 1:08:15Speaker 5: But yeah, I'd say about ninety percent of the UK fans.
- 1:08:19Speaker 5: Some of them are from other shows and they listen
- 1:08:21Speaker 5: to all of them. So there are a couple of
- 1:08:22Speaker 5: U of L fans in there, but it's most of
- 1:08:23Speaker 5: the UK fans.
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: Okay, how many fans do you think you all have
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: in general, like as a population.
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: Like as a little fan.
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: Yeah, because because because your football team has never packed,
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: no matter if you playing Universe of Miami or Eastern
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: Michigan is y'all y'all might as well start putting tarts
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: up on up the deck because y'all that will never
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: feel that bring everybody down at least make it look
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: like it's full.
- 1:08:48Speaker 5: Look, if there's a thousand little fans, I'm one of them.
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: If there's ten, I'm one of those. If there's just one,
- 1:08:54Speaker 5: you're gonna see them in there. If there's no little
- 1:08:56Speaker 5: fans left, that means I'm dead.
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: I mean, I will say this though, Matda'm kind of
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: concerned about your program. Thirty million dollars over budgeted, under budgeted,
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: whatever it came, whatever it can't afford, and I'm not
- 1:09:14Speaker 3: I'm not discussed. I'm not a pocket watcher. Well, I'm
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: not concerned about anybody's pockets.
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: Big dollars taking a million that could at least be
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: twenty nine.
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: Big Dog took a pay cut to go to Oh
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: Dindi people, damn near meal.
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: I think it's down there. It might be nine, it's
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: nine or eighty nine.
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: So that that's y'all. Could be twenty nine point one
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: million dollars, and we will be poking at big Dog.
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: Oh that's my guy. We can't poke a big guy,
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: Big Dog. But I will say this, so you do realize, Matt.
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: Last year week we I got air quotes for the
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: people that can't see.
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: We allocated and twenty.
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: Two million dollars toward our banst. But that's just our
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: basketball program. So I'm going to assume our football program
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: probably spends a lot more money than that, because it
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: takes a lot more money run a football program. And
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: you guys are thirty million dollars the budget that you
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: guys got to make up for. So if you if
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: this stuff don't go well this year, you can't run
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: it back.
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: So if that thirty million, you don't have now now
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: if you win the national championship as well, worth it
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: stops out, stops who buys championships.
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: Man, No, no, because because he's sitting these I like
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: his allegiance to you, Louisville.
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: I'm trying to flip him. I'm trying to flip him.
- 1:10:29Speaker 5: Okay, well, there's no way you're going to flip me
- 1:10:32Speaker 5: off of this, off of this, of this pedal.
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: Sawm on.
- 1:10:35Speaker 5: I understand what you're saying, though, because it is actually
- 1:10:37Speaker 5: a worry of me when that stuff came out.
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: But I feel like this is not this is not
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: just a little thing.
- 1:10:43Speaker 5: This is anybody that's not a part of the Big ten,
- 1:10:45Speaker 5: a part of the SEC. You know those conferences that
- 1:10:48Speaker 5: have so much revenue, television revenue, AD revenue, and you know,
- 1:10:52Speaker 5: like revenue sharing around the league that like, this is
- 1:10:54Speaker 5: just every other league in the country, whether you're a
- 1:10:57Speaker 5: group of four, whether or a group of five, whether
- 1:10:59Speaker 5: you're a power, you're not a big center SCC school,
- 1:11:03Speaker 5: you are borrowing money to for sports right now because
- 1:11:05Speaker 5: there's just no regulations. Every single season, these players are
- 1:11:08Speaker 5: getting paid quadruple what they were paid the season before.
- 1:11:12Speaker 5: Like I saw a statistic the other day that so
- 1:11:15Speaker 5: just two years ago, Well, I guess two years ago. Now,
- 1:11:18Speaker 5: Chucky Hepburn's the leading point guard for the University of Louisville, right,
- 1:11:21Speaker 5: CHUCKI Hepburn came here for like two hundred k, Like
- 1:11:25Speaker 5: that's it, and he was one of the best point
- 1:11:26Speaker 5: guards in the transferportal. Now you want the best point
- 1:11:29Speaker 5: guard in the transfer portal. That's five or six million dollars.
- 1:11:32Speaker 5: And that's just basketball. And you said it already. I
- 1:11:34Speaker 5: mean football you need more money. It's more players. The
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: players cost a lot more. There's a lot more you know,
- 1:11:39Speaker 5: wear and tear on your body, so that there's a
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: lot of other you know, insurances you need for that stuff.
- 1:11:43Speaker 5: So football costs almost twice as much as basketball does.
- 1:11:47Speaker 5: In every single year, the number doubles, the number triples,
- 1:11:50Speaker 5: the number quadruples. So it's the point where, yeah, Louisville
- 1:11:54Speaker 5: came out and there, I mean, you're right that they're
- 1:11:55Speaker 5: in a thirty million dollar deficit that physically cannot is
- 1:11:58Speaker 5: not a able to be survived. If you don't win games,
- 1:12:02Speaker 5: if you don't win championships, you don't do this, you
- 1:12:03Speaker 5: don't make the playoff, you don't do whatever.
- 1:12:05Speaker 4: So how long is that gonna last?
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: I think if this stays the exact same, the NCAA
- 1:12:10Speaker 5: doesn't step in and say players can only make this much,
- 1:12:13Speaker 5: or you know, universities can raise their own money this way,
- 1:12:16Speaker 5: or they it's not.
- 1:12:17Speaker 4: Regulated at all.
- 1:12:19Speaker 5: Schools like Louisville schools, in the ACC, schools in the
- 1:12:22Speaker 5: Big twelve, the Pac twelve that's coming back this year,
- 1:12:25Speaker 5: all those schools, they're just gonna burn out. You just
- 1:12:28Speaker 5: don't have enough money unless you're a school like Oregon
- 1:12:30Speaker 5: that has you know, I mean, they're Big ten now,
- 1:12:33Speaker 5: but like that when they were Big Pack twelve, they
- 1:12:34Speaker 5: had Nike back and then they have all this stuff.
- 1:12:38Speaker 5: It's frightening because, yeah, I am a little fan, and
- 1:12:41Speaker 5: I've been a little fan of my whole life. But
- 1:12:42Speaker 5: if things don't change, or Louisville doesn't start like winning
- 1:12:46Speaker 5: some serious games with it, withever, any program, basketball, football, baseball,
- 1:12:50Speaker 5: whatever you want, the money just isn't coming in.
- 1:12:52Speaker 4: It's not sustainable.
- 1:12:54Speaker 5: So yeah, I'm I'm I'm scared, Like you have two
- 1:12:59Speaker 5: or three years left of doing this before It's like, guys,
- 1:13:03Speaker 5: we're ninety million in the hole. We physically can't afford
- 1:13:06Speaker 5: to borrow money anymore. We gotta wait for something to happen.
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: And man, I said, we lived it last year, So
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: we lived. And that's where I'm kind of wondering. And
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: the thing that I guess from athletes standpoint you and
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: Ivan Uh, I'm not certain why loul was so desperate
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: And what's the what's the award you win when all
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: your sports are successful, your athletic director? All that director's
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: cup is a Director's Cup something like that.
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that is.
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: So, you know, they've they've been either one that have
- 1:13:39Speaker 3: been in competition for for a while. But I'm I
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: don't know what the end game is for you to
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: put all your resources toward. You know, let's let's uh,
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: let's win a basketball national championship. I have no idea,
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: but we we lived it last year. But our name
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: and our brand is a lot bigger than little of
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: no disrespect And this all this is no not even
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: going back.
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: This is not the banter we've been having.
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: It is that I can see us paying for that
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: because we want to stay at the top. Like if
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: Jordan wants to he has to sign Steph Curry away
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: from under army like if Nike wants to keep their
- 1:14:14Speaker 3: brain going, Lebron's about to retire. Mike has sustained even
- 1:14:19Speaker 3: after he's done. Lebron probably can't because his shoes ain't that.
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: But so we bring Steph in. Steph's about to retire soon.
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: So what point Ben is man? The whole deal of
- 1:14:31Speaker 3: you know, Louis spending that type of money is a
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: little bit scary. As Matt stated, do you do you
- 1:14:39Speaker 3: have any reason or do you see any position as
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: to why Louis Will probably should do it and maybe
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: just we just you can't. We don't care looking back
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: on last year when we spent all that money. Now,
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: mind you, we have two key injuries to two starting pieces,
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: your biggest big man who is drafted in the first
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: round and your point guard. Those are two most important
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: people on the bourt.
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't Here's it's hard man, because it is
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: true about the conference.
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: Like I did do in nineteen ninety six, I did
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: this presentation on money in the conference. In nineteen ninety six,
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: the SEC conference then entirety entity, made forty some million
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: dollars as an entirety in like twenty eighteen, the JESSEC
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: Conference gave Kentucky forty some million. That tells you how
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: much the conference is making and therefore we can we
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: can do things that in this conference that other programs came.
- 1:15:45Speaker 3: I would say this, I think Louisville suffering more because
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: I think they're doing the right thing of funding their
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: Olympic sports. Like I guess women's basketball is in the
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: Olympic sports, but women's basketball has always been a great program.
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: The volleyball program is great like they are. The baseball
- 1:16:03Speaker 3: program was good a few years ago. So they may
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: be they may be stretching their budget out too much
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: to fund all the programs, which is bad to say, man,
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: because I have a thought that's gonna run track, and
- 1:16:16Speaker 3: it's like we need all sports funded.
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: And I think that.
- 1:16:20Speaker 3: Alone has probably affected them more than it will affect us,
- 1:16:23Speaker 3: because at the end of the year, we probably getting
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: fifty plus million dollars from the conference, just the conference,
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: just for being a member of the conference, We're getting
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: fifty million.
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: Dollars, and that helps. Man. So I'm gonna say this.
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: I know we're getting closed in.
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: I'm gonna say this for all all BBN fans that
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: was complaining about JMI. I think it's proven that Jami
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: wasn't a problem, isn't a problem.
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: It will not be the problem. Louis was gonna.
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: Probably have to go to one of those deals, just
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: like we had to go to our JMI deal. Louis
- 1:16:55Speaker 3: was gonna probably have to get a problem equity for
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: him to come and fund them a little bit to
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: make up for that thirty million dollar definicit there. Because
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: if they don't, Louis football, louver men basketball is not
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: gonna go under. What's gonna go under is women's basketball,
- 1:17:11Speaker 3: women's track, volleyball, baseball, softball. Those programs are gonna suffer
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: more than your your and your big two because you
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: can't lose football, basketball, those are your those your money makers. Yeah,
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: I think I agree with you for the most part,
- 1:17:29Speaker 3: but I also think from a revenue since we are
- 1:17:31Speaker 3: doing revenue sharing, I do think we and I didn't realize.
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: I don't know if you knew this or night. All
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: schools did not have to allocate money toward the revenue sharing.
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: Like you get your budget and you break down your budget,
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: and you put this much money toward the athletic department,
- 1:17:46Speaker 3: so you're gonna do the revenue sharing. This is the
- 1:17:48Speaker 3: max amount you can allow and you can allocate money.
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: Toward that if there's not butts in the scene.
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: This one I was kind of asking Matt, and Matt
- 1:17:56Speaker 3: seems concerned about it, optimistic, but concerned about it.
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: Is if this doesn't go.
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: Your way, do you realize, Man, if you have a
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: job in sales and I give you a dollar budget,
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: I give you another million dollar budgets and we had
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: two million dollars in debt, am I gonna give you?
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: First of all? Am I gonna give you? Am I
- 1:18:21Speaker 3: gonna give you a scam key to get into the bill?
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: You remember that you remember that video of uh, I
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: think it was the.
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: Raiders when a guy went we got cut anywhere? Didn't work?
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: What's nothing due from the jets? He was on the
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: jets that shot safety, wasn't it what the Adams?
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: No, no, Adams, Nah, you're talking about George Adams.
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: No, no, no, no.
- 1:18:48Speaker 4: Let me let me one more thing real quick.
- 1:18:52Speaker 5: The only thing about the situation that it makes me
- 1:18:55Speaker 5: so nervous because you're in and like I said's not
- 1:18:59Speaker 5: just Louisville's a bunch of the schools are in a
- 1:19:01Speaker 5: situation where you don't have a choice. You have to
- 1:19:03Speaker 5: borrow money. You have to spend money because just like
- 1:19:06Speaker 5: Van said, basketball and football, those are your money makers.
- 1:19:09Speaker 5: You're all the other option are. Okay, we're not gonna
- 1:19:12Speaker 5: spend money on sports for right now. We're gonna wait
- 1:19:14Speaker 5: till the NCAA figures the stuff out and regulates it
- 1:19:18Speaker 5: so it's on a fair playing field for everybody. Okay, well,
- 1:19:20Speaker 5: what if that doesn't happen for ten years, then you
- 1:19:23Speaker 5: have been irrelevant in all sports for nine to ten years.
- 1:19:26Speaker 5: You have no fans anymore, nobody because who's watching those sports,
- 1:19:30Speaker 5: Like nobody cares. You're like, well, yep, well Kentucky, you're
- 1:19:33Speaker 5: playing this week too bad. Our roster costs five thousand
- 1:19:36Speaker 5: dollars in Kentucky spending forty million.
- 1:19:38Speaker 4: You know, hopefully we'll figure that out.
- 1:19:39Speaker 5: We got literal plumbers coming on their seventh year of
- 1:19:42Speaker 5: eligibility on the field versus first round draft picks. Right,
- 1:19:45Speaker 5: So you're in a situation where you literally have to
- 1:19:48Speaker 5: borrow that money to stay relevant and just hope it
- 1:19:52Speaker 5: works out. Versus you don't borrow the money and your
- 1:19:55Speaker 5: team possibly sucks for a whole decade and now you
- 1:19:58Speaker 5: lose the revenue down the line because.
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: Fans don't show up. You're you're, you're.
- 1:20:03Speaker 5: Literally it's the worst paradox known to man. I I'm terrified.
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: Hey, we got about we got about one minute left.
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: I'm gonna ask you. I'm gonna present this to both
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: of you, guys, Matt before I get the van. If
- 1:20:17Speaker 3: you if we swapped positions and we put Kentucky in
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: the in the ACC and we put Louisville in the SEC,
- 1:20:23Speaker 3: do you think situations whose situation would be better?
- 1:20:28Speaker 5: Are you talking about like just wins and losses are
- 1:20:30Speaker 5: like fins sports? I actually think they would be extremely similar.
- 1:20:37Speaker 4: I think that.
- 1:20:39Speaker 5: Louisville's football history is a little bit better, so maybe
- 1:20:42Speaker 5: they would have allocated more towards football growing up, whereas
- 1:20:45Speaker 5: basketball was obviously really important in Kentucky. I think louis
- 1:20:48Speaker 5: would have jumped on the football train earlier, so maybe
- 1:20:50Speaker 5: they had a little more success later on the SEC.
- 1:20:53Speaker 5: But I think that Kentucky would have you know, done
- 1:20:56Speaker 5: a lot better obviously in football in the ACC with
- 1:20:58Speaker 5: the weaker schedule, and would have you know, realized, oh,
- 1:21:01Speaker 5: we have a chance to win this league. Then possibly
- 1:21:04Speaker 5: would have allocated more resources to that as well, so
- 1:21:06Speaker 5: it wouldn't have been. But that also may have taken
- 1:21:08Speaker 5: away basketball championships because you're allocating more resource than something else.
- 1:21:12Speaker 5: So I think they would be in very similar situations
- 1:21:14Speaker 5: at this moment.
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: Man, we got about ten fifteen seconds.
- 1:21:18Speaker 3: I'm gonna say, Matt kudos, and because of that answer,
- 1:21:22Speaker 3: I will agree to come on tomorrow.
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: That was a great asser.
- 1:21:25Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: I appreciate it best Van Holes. I'm Anthony White.
- 1:21:30Speaker 3: This has been just a catch radio thanks to Mike
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: Benefit letting us show up. We will be back tomorrow.
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: Be back at eight oh five eight zero eight five
- 1:21:39Speaker 3: to ten am. We'll be back with Matt tomorrow.
- 1:21:43Speaker 2: This has been
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: Just a gay so
