- 0:00Hello and welcome back to the Spiritual Shit Show.
- 0:02My name is Julie Wynn.
- 0:03You're a spiritual hype girl and I am so happy you are here.
- 0:07This podcast is a follow-up from the previous one on self-love, and I just wanna say this as clearly as I can.
- 0:16The whole journey, all of it, is learning how to love yourself.
- 0:23Not to fix yourself, not to perfect yourself, not to better yourself, not to become some ideal, healed, enlightened version of yourself.
- 0:31Just learn how to love yourself.
- 0:35These spiritual practices seem so easy, but they're so hard, and I want you to think about this when you really zoom out for a second and you start to realize how wild it is that you're even here.
- 0:51The chances of you being born are about one in 400 trillion.
- 0:56Like you right now, listening to this are literally a statistical impossibility.
- 1:04And you one of one, there will never be you again.
- 1:09There has never been you before in this form.
- 1:12Like you're it the way you experience life, the way you feel life, the way you create your life.
- 1:17It's you there.
- 1:19It's so unique.
- 1:22There has never been you before.
- 1:23There will never be you again.
- 1:26So why would your life be about becoming someone else?
- 1:32Why would your life be about constantly measuring yourself against other people feeling inadequate, feeling not good enough At some point, you, me, we.
- 1:47Have to remember, we are not incomplete.
- 1:52We are so whole in who we are.
- 1:57We have to love it.
- 1:59Fucking love all of it.
- 2:02The story, the journey, the experiences.
- 2:06Our ability to come back to ourselves over and over and over and over, and over and over again to remind ourselves who we are.
- 2:18And I think there's a fear around self-love, like if I really love myself.
- 2:24Am I going to become really selfish?
- 2:27Does self-love equate to being arrogant and an asshole?
- 2:32And if I really love myself, then does that mean that I am positioning myself above everybody else, and I think that I am better than everyone?
- 2:42But let me tell you, that is not love.
- 2:45When you really allow yourself to deepen into love, you'll know what love really is.
- 2:53Love is fucking humble.
- 2:56The more love that comes into your life, the quieter you want to be, that love is compassionate.
- 3:06Love is gracious.
- 3:09Love, doesn't need to prove anything.
- 3:13Love doesn't need to be the shiniest version in the room.
- 3:17Love doesn't need to be the loudest one in the room.
- 3:21Love doesn't need to flex, definitely doesn't need to position itself on a pedestal.
- 3:28Real love is not performative.
- 3:32Real love is soft, and it's solid and it's powerful and it's grounded.
- 3:41Real love is the person in the back of the room who doesn't need attention to know who they are.
- 3:51Self-love isn't.
- 3:53I'm the best.
- 3:53I'm better than everyone.
- 3:54Look at me.
- 3:55Self-love is I don't actually need to prove a thing.
- 4:00Self-love is trusting in life, in self.
- 4:05Self-love motivates you to deep dive and have more fun and more joy, and what you're doing and what it is that you want to create.
- 4:16Self-love doesn't need to perform.
- 4:20Self-love is exciting too.
- 4:23Self-love offers you the ability to see other people truthfully, without needing to compete or to be in spaces and feel inadequate.
- 4:34Self-love is being in your own energy without abandoning any parts of yourself.
- 4:44So how do we get here?
- 4:46I'm not really quite sure I'm in the journey with you, but I can say for me, the pathway to self-love has been self-forgiveness because most of us aren't struggling to love ourselves.
- 5:02We're actually really struggling to forgive ourselves for who we were, for what we tolerated, for how we showed up, for what we didn't know yet.
- 5:13So we stay stuck in this low level shame and try to build self-love on top of it, but it doesn't work like that.
- 5:24You have to clear the shame first, and that's where the work begins.
- 5:30And the last podcast I talked about, the prayer of Ho Oona Ono.
- 5:35I love you.
- 5:36I'm sorry.
- 5:36Please forgive me.
- 5:37Thank you.
- 5:39And how we can practice that not to anyone else, but.
- 5:42To you over and over and over and over again.
- 5:48I'm trying to think of some tangible things, some practices that we can do together because I know when I started practicing, I love you.
- 5:55I'm sorry.
- 5:56Please forgive me.
- 5:56Thank you.
- 5:57I did it to help relieve, I almost use it as a bandaid, but I didn't have an access point.
- 6:05How to get to the core wound of myself.
- 6:09We can do these practices, but until we get underneath of it all and really have the courage to hold compassionately these parts of our past or these parts of our experiences that are truly the core wound, that's kind of still in us.
- 6:24Which can be hard to hold.
- 6:26And you know, that requires sometimes like crying, crying, crying, crying, um, and then sleeping, sleeping, sleeping.
- 6:38So it's work.
- 6:38It's work it.
- 6:40One of the things I came up with is this, photo exercise.
- 6:45So I want you to go back and just look at old pictures of yourself, old photos, recent photos.
- 6:51It doesn't matter.
- 6:52And I want you just to notice what's your first reaction when you look at pictures taken of yourself?
- 6:58Do you cringe?
- 7:00Do you judge?
- 7:02Do you pick yourself apart?
- 7:04I do.
- 7:05Guilty.
- 7:05Guilty.
- 7:06Guilty?
- 7:07Or can you say.
- 7:10Oh my God.
- 7:11Look at me living my life.
- 7:12Or, oh, that was such a great, beautiful memory.
- 7:14I'm so happy that was captured.
- 7:16Or, ah, this picture brings me so much gratitude.
- 7:21This picture brings me so much gratitude.
- 7:25I know for myself, when I look back at photos of myself now, I'm like, oh my gosh, I was so skinny.
- 7:32I was so beautiful.
- 7:33I was so young.
- 7:34I look amazing.
- 7:35Look at my life.
- 7:36Look at all the fun things I've done.
- 7:39At the exact same time.
- 7:40I know in that photo I was suffering so much inside because I didn't feel loved.
- 7:47I didn't feel like I was enough.
- 7:49I felt completely broken.
- 7:50My life was shattered.
- 7:53And so the question becomes, if you couldn't see your beauty, then what makes you think you're seeing yourself and your beauty clearly now?
- 8:04The work is learning how to see yourself clearly in your truth.
- 8:11If you look at a photo and cringe, pause and try this, ah, this photo brings me so much gratitude.
- 8:19That's me doing my best.
- 8:21That's me living my life.
- 8:23That's me, worthy of love and worthy of that experience.
- 8:29Self-love isn't just about how you treat yourself today.
- 8:33It's about how you choose to hold, to see, to love, to love every version of you.
- 8:45I also love this exercise from the past podcast too, of.
- 8:50Writing yourself a letter.
- 8:51Maybe you know, dear your name, I am so sorry that you have felt.
- 9:01Unloved.
- 9:02I am so sorry that you feel abandoned.
- 9:06I am so sorry that you feel like you have to compete with masculine energies and you can't show up in your power because of the system.
- 9:17I am so sorry that you that you abandon yourself too.
- 9:24Hold a compassionate love for spaces.
- 9:27I am so sorry.
- 9:28So that's another exercise that you can do.
- 9:30Like how can you write your own note to yourself?
- 9:34I love you.
- 9:36I am so sorry.
- 9:39Please forgive me for the times that I showed up angry, or please forgive me for all the times that I felt like I needed to protect myself or prove myself.
- 9:49Please forgive me for all of the times that I didn't love you and I didn't see you clearly.
- 9:54Please forgive me for all the times that I thought you were ugly and your body wasn't beautiful and you weren't good enough or talented enough, and then I love you.
- 10:04I love you.
- 10:05My gosh.
- 10:06I love you for who you are.
- 10:08I love you for how you show up.
- 10:09I love you for the work that you do.
- 10:11So get out your journal.
- 10:13I love you.
- 10:13I'm sorry.
- 10:14Please forgive me.
- 10:15Thank you.
- 10:17And I wanna remind you that this whole journey might just be about how to love yourself.
- 10:23Not louder, not better, but just more, more honestly, more powerfully, more compassionately.
- 10:33Self-love.
- 10:35Maybe this is the chapter that we're in.
- 10:37I love you.
- 10:38Thanks for being on this journey with me.
- 10:41Till next time.
