- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back.
- 0:15Speaker 2: What's going on?
- 0:15Speaker 3: Everybody is Jeff Mosher, It's Adam Kaplan and I want
- 0:19Speaker 3: to welcome all of our Inside the Birds listeners to
- 0:23Speaker 3: season nine. We have officially turned the page. Adam, I
- 0:27Speaker 3: don't know, it's hard for you to believe that we
- 0:29Speaker 3: are now entering year nine of its given where we started.
- 0:33Speaker 3: We should do one of those Internet memes like where
- 0:34Speaker 3: it started, Where it's going?
- 0:36Speaker 1: Where it is?
- 0:36Speaker 3: Because we look different than when we started this thing
- 0:39Speaker 3: nine years Yeah.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Down about forty five pounds, a lot of gray hair.
- 0:44Speaker 1: You know, yeah, less, way more grace.
- 0:47Speaker 2: That's yeah, exactly for us.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Yeah, No, it's awesome, man, this is great. I'm really
- 0:52Speaker 3: excited about what we have it. It's only you know,
- 0:56Speaker 3: it's still here July, so when we talk about the
- 0:58Speaker 3: actual regular season, get into all the programming later, much.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Much later in August as we get into the regular season.
- 1:06Speaker 1: But it is season nine of Inside the Birds. We
- 1:08Speaker 1: do this every year. We turn the page that.
- 1:10Speaker 3: First week because the Eagles will finally report to training
- 1:14Speaker 3: camp this week. Tuesday is the report date. Wednesday is
- 1:17Speaker 3: the first practice, and away we go. There'll be a
- 1:20Speaker 3: ramp up period we discussed that and then pretty soon
- 1:24Speaker 3: who knows when the pads will come out, and then
- 1:26Speaker 3: we'll really get into it. So what we like to
- 1:28Speaker 3: do before we this is gonna be a two part
- 1:31Speaker 3: podcast series. It's a two part training camp primer. We're
- 1:34Speaker 3: gonna go through the major questions, issues, storylines concerning the
- 1:39Speaker 3: Eagles going into camp on offense, and then on Tuesday
- 1:42Speaker 3: we'll do that for defense and throw special teams in
- 1:45Speaker 3: there if.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Need be, and then away we go.
- 1:48Speaker 3: We'll have camp reports later in the week from Adam
- 1:51Speaker 3: and Andrew Decheco will be there and it'll be a
- 1:54Speaker 3: fantastic week of actual football I'm talking about. But Adam
- 1:58Speaker 3: is we always like to say we get We do
- 1:59Speaker 3: this every year, and I think it's really important, all right,
- 2:02Speaker 3: It's an important remind people to be very understanding and
- 2:06Speaker 3: cautious of what happens in training camp. Don't overreact, don't underreact.
- 2:12Speaker 3: It's just training camp. There's great information and great football talk.
- 2:17Speaker 3: But if I were to choose an example from just
- 2:20Speaker 3: from last year, you know, Darius Cooper was one of
- 2:23Speaker 3: the most impressive storylines and one of the most impressive
- 2:26Speaker 3: players in camp. He made a very little impact as
- 2:30Speaker 3: a rookie, right, so like you gotta put everything in perspective.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Right, But now again he was an untry after Freegan.
- 2:36Speaker 2: We knew who wasn't gonna play much if he made
- 2:38Speaker 2: it like that was not even worth discussion people.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I kind of get in on that, and this guy
- 2:43Speaker 1: is lightening it up and on.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Right, But but the story was it was cool like
- 2:46Speaker 2: reblanket Ship. You wanted to go to start early good
- 2:49Speaker 2: point and we made there were two players we made
- 2:52Speaker 2: calls on earlier on dreted pH Asians, what's the TJ Edwards?
- 2:55Speaker 2: So that that one I didn't see happening. It was
- 2:57Speaker 2: Reblanketship of twenty two. We were positive he's making it
- 3:00Speaker 2: early in August, and then middle of August we're we're
- 3:05Speaker 2: we were like, Cooper's making it. There's no I don't
- 3:08Speaker 2: care who's healthy or not. He's making it because the
- 3:10Speaker 2: word got out on him and they were not gonna
- 3:13Speaker 2: be able to speak him through waivers. I talk to
- 3:14Speaker 2: other teams about him. They know about him. Although it's
- 3:16Speaker 2: funny they knew about him that he was on their
- 3:19Speaker 2: list because every team has every any player who could
- 3:22Speaker 2: be signed as an unentred free agent. I don't care
- 3:24Speaker 2: how small a school of Tartston Stadius. They're gonna have
- 3:27Speaker 2: a name. They're gonna have his name on a list.
- 3:29Speaker 2: But I find it hard to believe Eagles we have
- 3:32Speaker 2: been higher on him than other clubs were The Eagles just
- 3:35Speaker 2: had whoever the scout was did a phenomenalon. It might
- 3:38Speaker 2: have been Camp Bradfield, but he was Southwest. Yeah, but
- 3:42Speaker 2: they get the news clips, they see what the reporter's
- 3:44Speaker 2: rite or put they what being put on Twitter. As
- 3:47Speaker 2: you were talking about, it's one thing. Guy's a great practice.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Cooper brought it like every day, and they're just how
- 3:54Speaker 2: he's not gonna He's just not going to risk that.
- 3:56Speaker 2: He's a very good history of Okay, you know what,
- 4:01Speaker 2: this is real. This is not two or three practices
- 4:03Speaker 2: were one. This is all Camp. I'm not we're not
- 4:05Speaker 2: cutting We're not gonna expose him.
- 4:07Speaker 3: That's right, right, right, And by the way, don't don't
- 4:10Speaker 3: sell off short my friend.
- 4:11Speaker 1: We were on T. J. Edwards, we had good intel
- 4:14Speaker 1: on him as well.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Yeah, but I didn't think he was gonna. I didn't know.
- 4:17Speaker 3: We did some pods saying you really got to remember
- 4:19Speaker 3: they were razor thin imbacker. So we had some good TJ.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Edwards intel.
- 4:24Speaker 2: But the problem I had with him was I felt like,
- 4:28Speaker 2: I know you had you would have put you you
- 4:29Speaker 2: had already lost weight. I know you put that on
- 4:31Speaker 2: a show one time. I hadn't seen it anywhere, but
- 4:33Speaker 2: I skeptical because he just couldn't cover. Yeah, it's one
- 4:37Speaker 2: thing to make the team. How's he ever going to
- 4:38Speaker 2: get in the field. I never saw him being a player.
- 4:40Speaker 2: I just uh, and I could he's another player in
- 4:42Speaker 2: the scanting community. Cooper was a total fine by the Eagles,
- 4:46Speaker 2: just a total fine. Yeah, blanket ship. The Eagles weren't
- 4:51Speaker 2: super high on him, No one really was. Bye starting
- 4:55Speaker 2: you know, almost five years at Middle Tennessee State. But
- 4:58Speaker 2: when you look at TJ. Edwards, you look at the
- 5:00Speaker 2: school and you go, how's this the guy not on
- 5:02Speaker 2: anyone's right or he's small and you like, smaller than
- 5:04Speaker 2: you like. He's not a great athlete, doesn't cover well,
- 5:06Speaker 2: why would you think he'd be any good?
- 5:08Speaker 3: That's a good bless the only thing. I mean, he
- 5:10Speaker 3: played Big ten football. It's about the best you could say.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I played it well, but yeah, didn't get it.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Didn't get him drafted so of course he's small, you know,
- 5:18Speaker 2: and he's made some money. It was a great story
- 5:20Speaker 2: development by him and the coaches. But it's year nine,
- 5:25Speaker 2: Season nine. We started in the spring of twenty eighteen.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Shout out to John Barchard. I don't know if he's listening,
- 5:32Speaker 2: but John was an old friend. He actually helped us.
- 5:34Speaker 2: He was a producer and also a part time host
- 5:37Speaker 2: for WP and he started he got into podcasting and
- 5:40Speaker 2: he kind of helped us get started. And then it's
- 5:42Speaker 2: Spike Eskin, Yeah, who told us to go on our own.
- 5:45Speaker 2: He said, you guys got it. You'll make more money
- 5:47Speaker 2: on your own than you will hear. Yeah, we appreciated it.
- 5:50Speaker 2: He was right his advice. Yep. You know, we got
- 5:53Speaker 2: a lot of help early on. We as Jeff said,
- 5:55Speaker 2: it was a quite It took us a good four
- 5:58Speaker 2: or five years to get it. And then we let's
- 6:01Speaker 2: put it this, We kind of figure out what everybody wanted.
- 6:02Speaker 2: They want to they want to access, they want information,
- 6:04Speaker 2: they want to be smarter. Then Patreon, which we on
- 6:08Speaker 2: mid I was didn't think it would take off, but
- 6:11Speaker 2: what I would I noticed when we're doing the live streams,
- 6:14Speaker 2: the member's faces when we drop knowledge on them, stuff
- 6:18Speaker 2: that we don't talk about on our regular show, where
- 6:20Speaker 2: it's just okay, I guess we're on something. Yeah, and
- 6:23Speaker 2: the information movement will never no matter what ESPN does
- 6:25Speaker 2: to lay off people, no matter what happens, information will
- 6:29Speaker 2: never go out of style. People want to be smarter,
- 6:31Speaker 2: and that's that was our drive with this. Bring in
- 6:33Speaker 2: former players to host shows, bring in Sam Finkel, Andrew
- 6:36Speaker 2: de Checo, Greg Cosell, the names go on and on
- 6:40Speaker 2: and on. Greg by the way, as we announced and
- 6:43Speaker 2: will reiterate, Greg will be back with us for another season.
- 6:47Speaker 2: I don't remember how many seasons. He'll also be with
- 6:49Speaker 2: Patreon for Level three members you get you get exclusive
- 6:52Speaker 2: access one on one in a live stream. It's super cool.
- 6:56Speaker 2: And he will not leave until he gets everybody's questions.
- 6:58Speaker 2: It's pretty cool.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And of course you know Q and A,
- 7:02Speaker 1: Quentin Michael Jason.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Leavont, who we still talk to today consider friends, despite
- 7:06Speaker 3: what some interesting commenters thought last around this time last year,
- 7:12Speaker 3: and let's saye, Derek Gunn really had a part of
- 7:14Speaker 3: the platform last few years too, Ray Dininger last year.
- 7:17Speaker 3: So yeah, yeah, I think that we're one of the
- 7:20Speaker 3: few outlets who can say like we've had great working
- 7:23Speaker 3: relationships with both of the radio stations in Philadelphia, the
- 7:26Speaker 3: top sports talk stations, and we've appreciated them, and then
- 7:29Speaker 3: of course our partners in ESPN ninety seven three in
- 7:32Speaker 3: South Jersey as well, So it's listen. Our success is
- 7:36Speaker 3: also due to a lot of great partnerships along the way,
- 7:39Speaker 3: and we thank everybody who's advertised, who's partnered with us,
- 7:42Speaker 3: who've helped us out and found help from us.
- 7:45Speaker 1: So it's been a great experience.
- 7:46Speaker 3: And I am excited now to talk about training camp
- 7:51Speaker 3: because it's been a long, long off season and the offense, Adam,
- 7:55Speaker 3: as we get into this podcast, is going to be
- 8:00Speaker 3: it's gonna be a really interesting dynamic. I mean, I
- 8:02Speaker 3: think there's no doubt about the first obvious storyline question.
- 8:06Speaker 3: You know, thing to focus on going into camp is
- 8:10Speaker 3: not just the offense, but the relationship between the quarterback
- 8:14Speaker 3: Jillen Hurts, the new offensive coordinator, Sean Manny, and the
- 8:18Speaker 3: head coach of course, uh Nick Sirianni, and how the
- 8:22Speaker 3: passing game develops. There is absolutely no question that the
- 8:24Speaker 3: Eagles planted a flag in the ground this offseason at
- 8:29Speaker 3: the end of last year and said it's.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Not good enough.
- 8:32Speaker 3: It's not good enough the way to put out what
- 8:35Speaker 3: we've been putting out, we have regressed. We can't just
- 8:38Speaker 3: get by on being adequate offensively for two for long
- 8:42Speaker 3: stretches and then hoping that the offense clicks and wakes up. Yes,
- 8:46Speaker 3: sometimes that won us a super Bowl, but it also
- 8:48Speaker 3: lost us.
- 8:48Speaker 1: In the first round.
- 8:49Speaker 3: We need a real modern, twenty twenty six offense and
- 8:55Speaker 3: that is what they hope is delivered starting this week
- 8:58Speaker 3: in training camp, with the with the early foundation of
- 9:02Speaker 3: it being built.
- 9:03Speaker 2: You mean the nineteen eighty five offense that we saw
- 9:05Speaker 2: last year wasn't good enough for you? Okay?
- 9:08Speaker 1: Or is that called what's not insult nineteen eighty five?
- 9:10Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, that's embarrassed.
- 9:11Speaker 1: She had better third down percentages than the Eagles.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean how it got ripped by other teams.
- 9:17Speaker 2: To watch Eagles tabe was comical. But anyway, Yeah, it's
- 9:23Speaker 2: it's gonna be interesting because you've got yet another first
- 9:26Speaker 2: time play caller. Right, and this is absolutely my top question.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Nothing Trump said. I mean, yes, the we'll get the
- 9:32Speaker 2: healthy the offensive line. It's a big one. But if
- 9:35Speaker 2: herts plays on time, folks, I'm telling you he will
- 9:38Speaker 2: be I know people will find this ridiculous to say
- 9:41Speaker 2: he'll be better than he was in twenty twenty two
- 9:43Speaker 2: when he was before he got hurt right up there
- 9:45Speaker 2: for the MVP race because the league figured that the
- 9:48Speaker 2: league would figure out the Eagles offense. After that, they
- 9:50Speaker 2: completely figured it out in twenty three, and it really
- 9:53Speaker 2: it created somewhat in twenty three. Yeah, Brian Johnson lost
- 9:57Speaker 2: his job over it. Twenty four, they had the best
- 10:01Speaker 2: running game in NFL history from beginning to end for
- 10:03Speaker 2: the Super Bowl. At twenty five, the pass games disgusting.
- 10:06Speaker 2: So yeah, it's a timing based offense. It's pure West Coast,
- 10:12Speaker 2: you know. And we'll get to some more questions. But
- 10:16Speaker 2: and as an adjunct to this, it's Sean Manny and
- 10:18Speaker 2: as a as not only a play caller, how he
- 10:21Speaker 2: handles his first time running rooms being responsible for an offense,
- 10:29Speaker 2: how he handles the players hurt him and hurts his
- 10:32Speaker 2: relationship him and Tanner McKee. Okay, and he don't knows
- 10:36Speaker 2: the offense. He knows West Coast. I mean it's a
- 10:38Speaker 2: little it's gonna be a little bit different from what
- 10:40Speaker 2: he had, But it's the same terminology, West Coast, Furbige,
- 10:43Speaker 2: It's the same everywhere. But and then as another part
- 10:47Speaker 2: of this, it's Sirianni. It's not his offense. How is it?
- 10:54Speaker 2: How's he going to handle this? The responsibilities? Can he
- 10:58Speaker 2: understand that let let Manu and grow be there for support?
- 11:02Speaker 2: And also Nick has to be a better coaching was
- 11:05Speaker 2: last year? Was it Coull? He was not good enough?
- 11:06Speaker 1: What I said, This is gonna.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Be a really interesting year, Adam for the NFL along
- 11:11Speaker 3: with the Eagles, and Eagles are gonna fold right into
- 11:12Speaker 3: it because of how many coordinator changes there were either well,
- 11:17Speaker 3: let me say, either offensive coordinator or play caller could
- 11:20Speaker 3: be a head coach right changes there were in the NFL, like,
- 11:24Speaker 3: for example.
- 11:25Speaker 1: The Broncos.
- 11:25Speaker 3: For as long as we've known either known or known
- 11:28Speaker 3: people who've known Sean Payton, the fact that he is
- 11:30Speaker 3: surrendering play calling right to Davis Web to me is
- 11:34Speaker 3: fantastic because anybody who either knows or has reported on
- 11:38Speaker 3: or knows people who know Sean Payton know that he
- 11:41Speaker 3: is very, very territorial about his offense and the fact
- 11:46Speaker 3: that he's actually allowing somebody else to call plays. I'm
- 11:49Speaker 3: sort of like HM, can't wait to see what it's
- 11:51Speaker 3: like in week five and week six if they have
- 11:53Speaker 3: a little bit of a dry patch. Because Sewan is
- 11:55Speaker 3: not a very you know, he's not known for being
- 11:58Speaker 3: even keeled and patient. So and I apply that here
- 12:02Speaker 3: to Philadelphia in that we need to see patients.
- 12:05Speaker 1: We need to see patients.
- 12:06Speaker 3: If it's clunkyet to start from Nick, Sirianna, you mentioned it,
- 12:10Speaker 3: there can't be a.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Sean.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Let me, let me try to help you out with
- 12:15Speaker 3: some of the old school ways of doing it right.
- 12:17Speaker 3: You gotta let Sean learn. And the fans need to
- 12:21Speaker 3: be patient. They wanted something changed, they wanted a more
- 12:24Speaker 3: modern offense. Well you're getting it, but you're not getting
- 12:26Speaker 3: it from an experienced play caller. You're getting it from
- 12:29Speaker 3: someone who's probably gonna take a few lumps early on.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Then you have to understand that. And I always hear
- 12:35Speaker 3: in the off season we need this, we need that.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Then you get it. Then I hear this team was
- 12:39Speaker 1: not built for that. This team is built to win.
- 12:41Speaker 3: Now you don't have we don't have time for somebody
- 12:43Speaker 3: to learn on the job. Well, sorry, folks, you're gonna
- 12:46Speaker 3: have to give Sean Mannon time to learn on the job.
- 12:49Speaker 3: And if you don't like what you see in weeks
- 12:50Speaker 3: one through four, there's no escape in it. Like you
- 12:53Speaker 3: gotta give this guy some breathing room. We'll see if
- 12:55Speaker 3: we'll see if.
- 12:56Speaker 1: That can happen.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Adam, Well, look if they're if Hurts is not getting it,
- 13:00Speaker 2: and they're two and six, I'll better are off. Who
- 13:02Speaker 2: the hell knows what will happen. Yeah, you don't want
- 13:05Speaker 2: to go there. They're not thinking that way. But we
- 13:07Speaker 2: you know, we have to look at you know, our
- 13:09Speaker 2: job is to look at everything right, and we'll only
- 13:11Speaker 2: dress that if it happens, when it happens, if it happens.
- 13:14Speaker 2: But if Hurts gets the timing, because he's got the
- 13:17Speaker 2: arm strength, he's he's fairly durable. I know. The other
- 13:23Speaker 2: question is is will he run. They're going to run
- 13:25Speaker 2: him more a little bit, but it's not gonna be
- 13:27Speaker 2: a ton.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Those days are likely over for him running a ton.
- 13:31Speaker 2: It's just now when I'm talking about I'm talking about
- 13:34Speaker 2: design plays. I'm not talking about two things pocket breaking
- 13:38Speaker 2: down or what he has a tendency to do is
- 13:40Speaker 2: leave the pocket prematurely when he shouldn't, and let and
- 13:43Speaker 2: let the play go. Let they let the progression develop.
- 13:47Speaker 2: You know, that's been an ongoing problem for him, which
- 13:49Speaker 2: has been confirmed on tape about three thousand times. I mean,
- 13:52Speaker 2: it's just it's part of who he is. But it
- 13:55Speaker 2: could be in his back in a rear view pocket
- 13:59Speaker 2: review mirrors me. If he gets the timing down, that
- 14:02Speaker 2: to me is everything here that before we move on.
- 14:06Speaker 2: That is the number one thing is we talked about.
- 14:08Speaker 2: It's the timing. It's all that goes into with the
- 14:10Speaker 2: coaching parks. Frasier running a quarterback room fully for the
- 14:14Speaker 2: first time in his career, that's a big deal. There's
- 14:17Speaker 2: a lot goes on here. It's not just timing, it's coaching,
- 14:21Speaker 2: it's voices, Nick Scott. It clean that up a little bit,
- 14:25Speaker 2: and that's that's just got to be the battle cry.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Let's let's clean this up, get the timing down, and
- 14:30Speaker 2: let's go right. Uh.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Can you think of a quarterback recently.
- 14:33Speaker 3: I know we talked about rich Gannon, but any quarterbacks
- 14:36Speaker 3: that strike you in the last five ten years that
- 14:42Speaker 3: played an entirely different scheme and you saw like a
- 14:44Speaker 3: real difference or or just like became a different guy.
- 14:48Speaker 3: I mean, I think Jared Duff a little bit, even
- 14:50Speaker 3: though it's the same scheme. Honestly, he went from right
- 14:52Speaker 3: mcveda to Ben Johnson, but he completely got it and
- 14:56Speaker 3: he just became a way better quarterback than he was
- 14:59Speaker 3: in LA. I think that there's there's probably guys you
- 15:01Speaker 3: can find along the way who once they hit that
- 15:04Speaker 3: that that found that right scheme and that right personnel
- 15:07Speaker 3: around them and the right mentality, came into their own
- 15:10Speaker 3: in a different way, even if they had success.
- 15:12Speaker 2: It's interesting with golf is that golf went from the
- 15:17Speaker 2: rigid rigidity of Sean mcvay's West Coast ben Johnson's West Coast,
- 15:23Speaker 2: which is more forward thinking, a little bit, a little
- 15:27Speaker 2: bit out there, but it's still timing base. That is
- 15:28Speaker 2: on your point, that's exactly what it is. It's still
- 15:30Speaker 2: toming base. But there there's an adjunct to every West
- 15:33Speaker 2: Coast offense. There's a there's something. No one runs it
- 15:35Speaker 2: exactly the same everybody run any Reids has been bastardized
- 15:39Speaker 2: for years. He just doesn't run it the same way
- 15:41Speaker 2: as Shanahan or McVeigh. But you know, he was obviously older,
- 15:46Speaker 2: but you know It always depends on who you studied under,
- 15:49Speaker 2: how you see the game going, how has it been modernized,
- 15:52Speaker 2: and so forth. But overall here, yeah, other than rich
- 15:57Speaker 2: Gannon who became a player who was just kind of
- 15:58Speaker 2: like an athlete trying to play the quarterback position. Yeah, now,
- 16:03Speaker 2: you know, he didn't have the greatest arm of the world.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Pretty good athlete, you know, about just under six foot three,
- 16:08Speaker 2: but for some reason he just fit and got John
- 16:10Speaker 2: Gruton's offense and what did he take off? An MVP guy,
- 16:13Speaker 2: so got.
- 16:14Speaker 1: With it for sure.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Uh, let's talk about the extension of the of the
- 16:19Speaker 3: passing game, which is the receiving the targets.
- 16:21Speaker 1: You know, we know DeVante Smith is going to be
- 16:24Speaker 1: a target monster.
- 16:26Speaker 3: But over the next four to five weeks, what you
- 16:29Speaker 3: and I will be looking for and what other people
- 16:31Speaker 3: you know, listening to this podcast are going to want
- 16:33Speaker 3: to know, is.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Who is the next guy in line?
- 16:36Speaker 3: Who is someone that is going to emerge as Jalen
- 16:40Speaker 3: Hurts his trusty guy and.
- 16:42Speaker 1: I got we didn't bring this up last time, but
- 16:45Speaker 1: I thought it was.
- 16:45Speaker 3: Really fascinating that Nick Sirianni compared Dontavian Wicks to Keenan Allen.
- 16:52Speaker 1: That was really interesting to me. You know, I think
- 16:55Speaker 1: if Keenan Allen's a short, compactly built, wide receiver who
- 16:59Speaker 1: was really gifted in the short area, in and out
- 17:03Speaker 1: of his breaks.
- 17:04Speaker 3: Almost like like uh, like the way Jason Levant played,
- 17:07Speaker 3: but even better because I mean, I mean Allen was
- 17:09Speaker 3: a great athlete, right, Keen Allen is and was a
- 17:12Speaker 3: great athlete. So I'd never visioned the taller like d'antavian
- 17:18Speaker 3: Wicks that way. But it's really interesting that Sirianni, who
- 17:20Speaker 3: coached Keenan Allen when he was there were the Chargers,
- 17:22Speaker 3: made that comparison.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Yeah. He I mean, I'm just I gotta trust his judgment.
- 17:28Speaker 2: But Allen's an inside receiver. Uh Wix can line up inside,
- 17:32Speaker 2: but he's more of an ex an outside receiver, right. Yeah,
- 17:35Speaker 2: I didn't. I didn't see that. But you know, king
- 17:37Speaker 2: Allen as a borderline Hall of Famer probably will make
- 17:39Speaker 2: it one of the best possessed receivers. These numbers are
- 17:42Speaker 2: pretty massive.
- 17:43Speaker 3: I know, I know, he's just in an era of
- 17:45Speaker 3: high volume pass catchers, white people.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Number.
- 17:49Speaker 1: I love the guy. I just didn't know, you know,
- 17:51Speaker 1: if you'd make it.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Yeah, numbers are not we'll say, but yeah, I thought
- 17:54Speaker 2: that was that was wild. So look, Smith is the
- 17:57Speaker 2: unquestioned top PAS star. That's not even worth discussing. It's
- 18:00Speaker 2: we know this already. We're not telling people what they
- 18:01Speaker 2: don't know. But after that, it's completely wide open. Whether
- 18:04Speaker 2: it's gonna be Lemon, whether it's gonna be Wicks, it's
- 18:08Speaker 2: be surprised. Whether it's gonna be got Her. No, it's
- 18:11Speaker 2: not gonna be life stours. Barring a shock. I don't
- 18:13Speaker 2: see that. He's got to learn how to block. He
- 18:16Speaker 2: just has to learn how to block. He's still new
- 18:18Speaker 2: to this tight end position. You don't put guys on
- 18:21Speaker 2: the field of can't block, you don't know, you don't
- 18:23Speaker 2: field a lot. That's why green Cock Terrige, spite being
- 18:25Speaker 2: a pretty good athlete, doesn't play a lot. He's back.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Could argue where he should have been. But the bottom
- 18:32Speaker 2: line is they need to find a number two pass target.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Now it's gonna be more of a pass target by
- 18:39Speaker 2: committee approach. It's Smith the unquestioned one, Lemon wis got
- 18:45Speaker 2: her And then, as we've discussed many times, could could
- 18:51Speaker 2: Hollywood Brown not. He's not gonna be a volume pass target. No,
- 18:54Speaker 2: chance at that. But can he be that that one
- 18:57Speaker 2: big shot play guy that he really has never been
- 18:58Speaker 2: consistently in the national four bullet right?
- 19:01Speaker 3: Do you think the Eagles can successfully get to where
- 19:05Speaker 3: they want to be being like the Seahawks where it's
- 19:08Speaker 3: really just eighty percent of the targets go to one
- 19:12Speaker 3: guy in this case DeVante Smith.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Who's.
- 19:16Speaker 3: He's not as explosive as Jackson Smith and Jigba in
- 19:20Speaker 3: terms of forty time or twitchiness, but he's probably as
- 19:24Speaker 3: good of a route right, he is as good of
- 19:25Speaker 3: a route run. I mean, he's he's an excellent wide receiver.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Can he be an eighty five eighty to eighty five
- 19:31Speaker 3: percent of the targets and the Eagles get to where
- 19:33Speaker 3: they want to go? I think that's a It's an
- 19:36Speaker 3: interesting question because they do have what is looks looks
- 19:39Speaker 3: like it could be.
- 19:39Speaker 1: A very good defense, like an up there with the
- 19:41Speaker 1: Seahawks type defense.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Actually, by the way, No, DeVante runs were way better
- 19:45Speaker 2: that That's I think you got a opposite. Davante's way
- 19:47Speaker 2: faster than Jen.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Right, DeVante didn't run a Ford, No, but.
- 19:52Speaker 2: His time speed I know that his time speed the
- 19:55Speaker 2: Davante's time speed over whenever you have to have a
- 19:58Speaker 2: time speed somewhere. Even if you didn't run prote every
- 20:00Speaker 2: team has a time speed. Uh Smith and Jiggler ran
- 20:04Speaker 2: in the like four eight to four five three range.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Diddy, I am so I apologize. I must have been
- 20:09Speaker 1: confusing him with different Ohio state. Yeah he is a
- 20:12Speaker 1: you're right, four four eight at the combine or something.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Yeah, he he don't what he is. He's no offense
- 20:17Speaker 2: at Davante. Although Davante plays bigger than his listed size,
- 20:21Speaker 2: js N is unbelievably strong. Yes, like he is. All
- 20:27Speaker 2: the teams have problems with him because hamstrings and pre
- 20:30Speaker 2: draft process that everybody got it wrong. I mean, he's
- 20:34Speaker 2: surpassed what anyone thought he could be. I loved him
- 20:36Speaker 2: when I loved him his first two years because he
- 20:38Speaker 2: was like Jason's Jayson had. If you might remember Ryan
- 20:42Speaker 2: Grubb was for one year. He was a eleven personnel guy.
- 20:46Speaker 2: It was such a lamp that JSN was going to
- 20:48Speaker 2: do great. But then he then he carried over once again,
- 20:51Speaker 2: and he just did. Then he was obviously a monster
- 20:53Speaker 2: last season and got the big contract. So right, yeah, no,
- 20:57Speaker 2: Davante will do fine. It's just that can The big
- 21:02Speaker 2: question here is before we move on, can the receiver
- 21:06Speaker 2: by committee other than DeVante, with the guys we mentioned,
- 21:09Speaker 2: can it just be good enough? They don't have to
- 21:11Speaker 2: No guy has to have eighty catches other than DeVante,
- 21:13Speaker 2: that doesn't matter, right, it's the group together. Can they
- 21:17Speaker 2: be efficient route running? Red zone? Uh? Fifty to fifty
- 21:24Speaker 2: balls with wits? Obviously he's a big body guy. Can
- 21:28Speaker 2: they do everything you need them to do? That? That's
- 21:30Speaker 2: and then with Goddard as the other pass target at
- 21:32Speaker 2: tight end, it should They're deep enough. It's the quality
- 21:38Speaker 2: of these guys, right, the quantity, it's the quality of
- 21:41Speaker 2: the group that that's a little bit questionable. We're going
- 21:43Speaker 2: to learn more about that as we go along.
- 21:45Speaker 1: For sure, thank you for I had to recheck.
- 21:47Speaker 3: JSM just plays like he's explosive, but you're right he
- 21:50Speaker 3: did not catches.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Were talking about that.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Yeah, run after the catch is so good in the
- 21:57Speaker 2: open field, and he also knows what it's all just
- 22:00Speaker 2: route running, it's understanding open space and fighting it. Yep,
- 22:04Speaker 2: that's not a lot of guys are good at that.
- 22:06Speaker 2: He just is.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Yeah, he has great hands, so does Devanta. They're blessed
- 22:10Speaker 1: with great hands.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Davonte maybe a little better in the contested catch, like
- 22:13Speaker 3: fifty to fifty ball because he's got It's got some
- 22:15Speaker 3: weird knack for being able to do that for a
- 22:17Speaker 3: guy who's one hundred and sixty pounds.
- 22:18Speaker 2: I mean, very man. For those of you who don't
- 22:21Speaker 2: you that's great funny. There's a lot of people who
- 22:23Speaker 2: don't know who Gumby is. Just what you know, people
- 22:25Speaker 2: use that line. People less younger than forty may not
- 22:28Speaker 2: know who he is, but look at it.
- 22:30Speaker 3: Well, I was at a softball tournament and there was
- 22:33Speaker 3: a ball that came close but I couldn't get to it,
- 22:35Speaker 3: you know, like a foul ball. And I went, oh,
- 22:37Speaker 3: go go gadget, you know, like China, like the arm extension.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Go go gadget, inspector, gadget. But I realized what people
- 22:44Speaker 3: are looking at me, like.
- 22:44Speaker 2: What the hell are you talking about? Exactly?
- 22:47Speaker 1: All right, all right, let's move to the offensive line. Man.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Really important. There's two things that are that we're looking at.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Obviously health and I think we'll know that pretty quickly.
- 22:59Speaker 3: Just how physically up to the task that guys like Landon,
- 23:02Speaker 3: Dickerson and Cam Jurgens look after a really rocky last year,
- 23:06Speaker 3: they both said they feel better. Cam Jurgens really has
- 23:09Speaker 3: come out and said he feels a lot better than
- 23:12Speaker 3: he did. And neither are coming off surgeries that should help.
- 23:17Speaker 3: But also you know, like Lane Johnson coming back from
- 23:20Speaker 3: from these from a foot injury. A Liz Frank and
- 23:23Speaker 3: we talked about the again.
- 23:24Speaker 1: This is on his right leg. That's his kicks slide leg.
- 23:28Speaker 3: You know, you put a lot of weight and not
- 23:30Speaker 3: just a lot of weight, you're pounding on it because
- 23:32Speaker 3: you're moving back in your vertical vertical sets on it.
- 23:35Speaker 3: Jordan Malatta has been healthy, but he didn't play his
- 23:39Speaker 3: best last year. This is a really really essential part
- 23:42Speaker 3: of this team's success. And now they're also adapting to
- 23:47Speaker 3: a different blocking scheme. So it's almost like what's your
- 23:50Speaker 3: what's your one or one A and curiosity their health
- 23:53Speaker 3: or their ability to block in a completely different way
- 23:56Speaker 3: than they've been asked to do it both really relevant.
- 23:59Speaker 2: They are the health, it's one in one day. The
- 24:00Speaker 2: health is obvious. And what I like to look at
- 24:05Speaker 2: is this is a scouting term, scouting phrase, Really, how
- 24:09Speaker 2: do they get out of an awkward stance like how
- 24:12Speaker 2: do they move yep, past set also, you know that's
- 24:17Speaker 2: important though they are very good run blocking team, terrible
- 24:19Speaker 2: against the block for the run, and how they move
- 24:22Speaker 2: going forward they look do they look trimmed down? You know,
- 24:25Speaker 2: we'll look into their weights and so forth like that.
- 24:27Speaker 2: But yeah, it's just it's a total unknown. It's good
- 24:31Speaker 2: that you know, these guys say that they're feeling good. Well,
- 24:34Speaker 2: that's great, but we're not going to really know until
- 24:37Speaker 2: they get to the break of season obviously for sure, right,
- 24:40Speaker 2: but man, it was Cam Jurgons was so painful to
- 24:44Speaker 2: watch it in the run game last season. I felt
- 24:46Speaker 2: bad for him. He could just couldn't be himself. The
- 24:47Speaker 2: tape was really bad, but there was a reason for it.
- 24:52Speaker 2: And now we're gonna have to see how close he
- 24:55Speaker 2: was or is to what he was before he had
- 24:58Speaker 2: his latest injury problems.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Right, and then of course we're gonna get really good
- 25:02Speaker 3: looks at some real key depth candidates. Obviously Kendall in
- 25:08Speaker 3: his second year, Drew Kendall being cross trained to guard
- 25:11Speaker 3: even though he's a center. Micah Morris, the rookie guard
- 25:14Speaker 3: that they draft in six round, who's a terrific athlete,
- 25:17Speaker 3: just lacks experience, but he's gonna get in there and
- 25:20Speaker 3: get the tutelage.
- 25:20Speaker 1: And we're gonna pay attention to Chris Cooper. How is
- 25:22Speaker 1: he coaching?
- 25:23Speaker 2: You know?
- 25:24Speaker 3: How is he handling having a coach in place of
- 25:27Speaker 3: a legend who for many of the offensive linement that's
- 25:30Speaker 3: the only voice they ever heard since they joined the Eagles,
- 25:33Speaker 3: and now it's completely new voice, teaching new things. And
- 25:36Speaker 3: you know, everybody says nice things about everybody in the OTAs, Oh,
- 25:40Speaker 3: we like this guy, we.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Know he's smart.
- 25:42Speaker 3: That's great, But it's when you get on the field
- 25:44Speaker 3: and you just mentioned it, you have to recover from.
- 25:47Speaker 1: A bad set, right, How did everybody relact? How's everybody react?
- 25:50Speaker 3: What if the offensive line is getting dominated one day
- 25:52Speaker 3: in practice? What does the offensive line coach do to
- 25:55Speaker 3: quell that, to get his guys back on the same page.
- 25:58Speaker 3: There's gonna be a harmony and a symmetry year that
- 26:01Speaker 3: is going to come under the microscope pretty quickly.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Yeah, And the thing that you look for with the
- 26:07Speaker 2: new staff is, well, just this is not on my list,
- 26:13Speaker 2: but you maybe think of something coaches have told me
- 26:16Speaker 2: for years, and when I ask how's it going? With
- 26:17Speaker 2: it with the headman more often not, they say, well,
- 26:20Speaker 2: know when we actually coach real games, because it's good now,
- 26:23Speaker 2: but you don't know to learning the pressure cooker, right right.
- 26:26Speaker 2: It all sounds great in the offseason, but it doesn't
- 26:28Speaker 2: really matter until you've coached real games. Because Sirianni coaches
- 26:33Speaker 2: to coaches hard. We've known that for many years. He
- 26:36Speaker 2: does a good job for with it mostly. But now
- 26:40Speaker 2: it's you've got this whole new offense, You've got a
- 26:44Speaker 2: lot of new coaches. There's some holdovers, but this is
- 26:48Speaker 2: a this is a it's a transition year on offense,
- 26:51Speaker 2: but it's it's a very important year because it's not
- 26:54Speaker 2: acceptable not to be in the playoffs. Here. They got in,
- 26:57Speaker 2: but they got absolutely embarrassed by a beat up Niners
- 26:59Speaker 2: team in phil That that was an absolute embarrassment of
- 27:01Speaker 2: all embarrassments. They didn't compete offensive, they were horrendous. Right,
- 27:05Speaker 2: that's not what we're used to or their ownership front
- 27:08Speaker 2: office quok, the staff, players, mm hm, it won't be
- 27:12Speaker 2: it won't be good if they don't make the playoffs.
- 27:14Speaker 2: And a lot of it's going to depend on how
- 27:16Speaker 2: this offense. The majority of it's gonna be on the offense.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Let's let's be honest about it.
- 27:19Speaker 3: I am interested in seeing the balance of trying to
- 27:22Speaker 3: give guys who are up there in age or have
- 27:24Speaker 3: a lot of mileage like Landon Lane Johnson, Landon Dickerson
- 27:30Speaker 3: even I guess, you know, my a lot to some extent,
- 27:32Speaker 3: and and Jurgens even if Durgons young, but just mileage
- 27:35Speaker 3: in terms of naps. But you want to get those
- 27:38Speaker 3: guys rest. We would call the maintenance days.
- 27:40Speaker 1: There.
- 27:40Speaker 3: There would be times in Andy Reid's camp where those
- 27:42Speaker 3: guys would like take five days off and just be
- 27:45Speaker 3: with Rick Perkholder, you know, like they've got an injury.
- 27:48Speaker 3: I put in quotations because you know, campus a bloodbath
- 27:52Speaker 3: back then. But you want to Obviously, they want to
- 27:55Speaker 3: see these tackles, young tackles, Miles Hinton, they want whose
- 27:58Speaker 3: tackle Land Guard. They want to see Camera Williams development,
- 28:00Speaker 3: they want to see markkel Bell third round pick. These
- 28:03Speaker 3: guys got to get important reps. But whereas in the
- 28:07Speaker 3: past it'd be fine to give these other guys maintenance days,
- 28:10Speaker 3: they're trying to learn a new offense. So how much
- 28:12Speaker 3: are you trying to take Lane Johnson off the field.
- 28:14Speaker 3: How much you're trying to take your other first off
- 28:16Speaker 3: the field when they're trying to learn a new offense,
- 28:18Speaker 3: just so you can get backups key reps. That's going
- 28:20Speaker 3: to be an interesting kind of decision strategically for the
- 28:23Speaker 3: coaching staff.
- 28:24Speaker 2: All right, before we move on on the offensive line,
- 28:27Speaker 2: and you mentioned in passing, it's really it's it's the
- 28:32Speaker 2: running game redevelopment, and then within that it's it's the
- 28:38Speaker 2: development as you talked about. But I'll take it a
- 28:42Speaker 2: step further of the developmental offensive lineman Holland Pierce, Willie Lampkin.
- 28:48Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Okay. They need they need guard help in the worst way.
- 28:51Speaker 2: They have zero guard depth. It's really bad. Okay, Like
- 28:55Speaker 2: they've gotten away with some stuff in depth. We talked
- 28:59Speaker 2: about it in the was it the twenty four Super Bowl? Yeah,
- 29:04Speaker 2: twenty two seasons and twenty four season they got really
- 29:05Speaker 2: got away with a corner black of cornerback death. They
- 29:07Speaker 2: just didn't have any injuries. Oh yeah, yeah, it was
- 29:10Speaker 2: twenty two, right, So they don't have any depth of
- 29:13Speaker 2: Michael Jordan will see he's just a journeyman. Formly of
- 29:17Speaker 2: the latest was the Bucks. But it's the development of
- 29:21Speaker 2: these young guys who we mention. You mentioned all those
- 29:23Speaker 2: guys who Miles in a guard good luck, we'll see.
- 29:26Speaker 2: I find hard to believe, but they know more than
- 29:28Speaker 2: we do. Drew Kendall who is really developing. He's going
- 29:31Speaker 2: to be the backup center. And you know what, one
- 29:35Speaker 2: more thing, Fred Johnson in this doesn't have Stout coach
- 29:38Speaker 2: him anymore. Stout Stout reenergized his career, did a great
- 29:42Speaker 2: job with him. We'll see, did a good job last
- 29:45Speaker 2: year considering he got thrown in there, started more than
- 29:48Speaker 2: Eagles would have wanted, but held his own decent job.
- 29:52Speaker 1: How giddy are you and I and Andrew are going
- 29:54Speaker 1: to be if we do a podcast.
- 29:55Speaker 3: You know, a couple of practices in when the pants
- 29:57Speaker 3: come out, especially, and we're like, hey, I wasn't counting,
- 30:01Speaker 3: but I was really observing. It looked like seventy percent
- 30:04Speaker 3: of the snaps they were under center, and there was
- 30:06Speaker 3: motion and there was direction and play action from under center.
- 30:11Speaker 3: That's really the big thing, right is seeing how that
- 30:14Speaker 3: scheme develops over the course of the next four weeks
- 30:16Speaker 3: and that play action element that we expect, that wide
- 30:20Speaker 3: zone blocking, as you mentioned with the run game being rediscovered,
- 30:23Speaker 3: and just the whole new offensive concept that they're going
- 30:26Speaker 3: to bring. All that entails the offensive line being on
- 30:29Speaker 3: the same page, and the running backs and the quarterback
- 30:31Speaker 3: and the snap exchange is going to be important.
- 30:33Speaker 1: All that is going to be really interesting.
- 30:35Speaker 3: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,
- 30:39Speaker 3: long lines, We've all been there, But when it comes

- 31:35Speaker 2: Yeah, and then on what you just said is Manians
- 31:40Speaker 2: and hurts in their communications. Sticking with it if they're
- 31:42Speaker 2: going to be under center a lot, Jalen Siscota, he's
- 31:47Speaker 2: just got to stay with it. I know it's not
- 31:49Speaker 2: been his deal. H. But play action, as Greg SEL's
- 31:53Speaker 2: been telling us, visually, it works so much better when
- 31:56Speaker 2: the quarterback's under center. It just does yep, period of
- 31:59Speaker 2: a story. Yeah, it's got to happen. You know, it's
- 32:01Speaker 2: got to happen. And then you know the other part
- 32:04Speaker 2: of this offense, the toush push success. Boy, it was
- 32:07Speaker 2: so bad last year. I thought for short to start
- 32:10Speaker 2: last season, absolutely they would have outlawed it. Well, nobody
- 32:14Speaker 2: cared about they were so bad at it. The clubs
- 32:16Speaker 2: didn't care. They were going to bring up to get
- 32:17Speaker 2: it voter on the owners meanings. It didn't. No one cared. Okay,
- 32:21Speaker 2: literally nobody cared. I was like, this is hard to believe.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Didn't never thought I'd see the day. But it happened.
- 32:25Speaker 1: It did happen.
- 32:26Speaker 3: Of course, you know, the Eagles weren't good at it,
- 32:28Speaker 3: and so it became a dead issue. I have a
- 32:30Speaker 3: feeling we'll see if this is one of the things
- 32:33Speaker 3: I agree with Siriani on when he says, there are
- 32:35Speaker 3: some things we've done in the past that you don't
- 32:37Speaker 3: want to just throw out with the bath water, right,
- 32:39Speaker 3: the baby out with the bathwater. And I think the
- 32:41Speaker 3: toush push if your offensive line is healthy and your
- 32:44Speaker 3: quarterback is going under center more anyway, I think that
- 32:47Speaker 3: there is especially with you know, I like the way
- 32:50Speaker 3: the Packers used their big tight.
- 32:52Speaker 1: End Tucker Kraft last year.
- 32:54Speaker 3: Eagles probably have some guys that they can they can
- 32:56Speaker 3: they can probably manufacture some interesting ways of doing the
- 32:59Speaker 3: push play without just conventionally lining it up and going.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Or fake it. Yeah I faked it. Fake it. Yeah. Absolutely.
- 33:05Speaker 2: They've done it for very few times, and it generally
- 33:08Speaker 2: works because they're so the defense is so shocked, because
- 33:11Speaker 2: they're they're they're they're mentally and working all week to
- 33:14Speaker 2: stop it, right, and then they do the fake one
- 33:17Speaker 2: is the greatest thing.
- 33:18Speaker 3: But I mean, you have to you'd have to activate
- 33:21Speaker 3: col Peyton on game day and he'd have to make
- 33:23Speaker 3: the team to make it happen. But he could certainly
- 33:24Speaker 3: get involved into hit that tight and athleticism in some
- 33:27Speaker 3: kind of way of doing it too.
- 33:28Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah, because honestly, that's a little bit of
- 33:31Speaker 2: a value for him, because honestly, he's so far away mechanically,
- 33:34Speaker 2: right light years away from being able to throw the
- 33:38Speaker 2: ball correctly. He just has a major mechanical flaul despite
- 33:41Speaker 2: being a pretty good athlete, and it actually has arm strength.
- 33:43Speaker 2: But the problem is that it gets to the gated,
- 33:46Speaker 2: you'll see some furs. You go, wow, what the hell
- 33:48Speaker 2: happened on that throw? Well, he mechanically he didn't throw
- 33:50Speaker 2: it right. It comes up of the tail, it dies,
- 33:53Speaker 2: It looks like a quail, which should have gone twenty
- 33:54Speaker 2: yards further. But then every once in a while I
- 33:57Speaker 2: saw an OTAs when he got his feet set and
- 34:00Speaker 2: the ball came out correctly, You're like, wow, that was
- 34:02Speaker 2: a tight spiral. Okay, you just don't know what it's coming.
- 34:05Speaker 2: So that's pretty much for me. That's it we kind
- 34:08Speaker 2: of covered. I don't know if you have anything.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Yeah, the no, I do have one last thing I'm
- 34:11Speaker 1: going to leave you with here.
- 34:12Speaker 3: It's a question for you who because we just did
- 34:14Speaker 3: a whole podcast series on a last week. Who's going
- 34:16Speaker 3: to be in your mind? Who will be at the
- 34:19Speaker 3: end of camp? The quote Lee Heisman, the.
- 34:22Speaker 1: Offensive camp climber, the darling of training camp.
- 34:28Speaker 2: I'm gonna say day Kwon Wright. I know they have
- 34:31Speaker 2: too many tight ends. The actually have eight on the
- 34:33Speaker 2: ninety man roster, which is ridiculous.
- 34:35Speaker 1: I love it.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Five or six for training camp, but big time athlete.
- 34:40Speaker 2: He's had some injuries. One in particulars why you get drafted.
- 34:43Speaker 2: There's a lot of talent there to develop. Yeah, he's
- 34:48Speaker 2: not pushing stours off for god. Obviously they must make
- 34:52Speaker 2: the team. They're on the team. But after those two
- 34:56Speaker 2: it's all up in the air. The most key for
- 35:00Speaker 2: a lot not completely out of the question. He could
- 35:03Speaker 2: be one of those four if how he is Again,
- 35:06Speaker 2: if he sees it, he won't risk it. That's kind
- 35:10Speaker 2: of more often than not. He won't cut a guy
- 35:13Speaker 2: when the work. When the work gets out, the guy's
- 35:15Speaker 2: a low round pick. Were undrafted for he Clement, By
- 35:19Speaker 2: the way, going back to twenty seventeen, it was obvious
- 35:22Speaker 2: he was making it. We had no one had any idea,
- 35:26Speaker 2: any idea how special he would be. How the hell
- 35:28Speaker 2: could you know? No but it was obvious in training
- 35:31Speaker 2: kid that he deserved to make it. And how he,
- 35:33Speaker 2: to his credit, I think they actually had at one
- 35:35Speaker 2: point they had five running backs on their fifty three.
- 35:38Speaker 2: I don't know exactly what. I'd have to go back
- 35:40Speaker 2: and see what were yep, but that's how he when
- 35:45Speaker 2: he says he's you're not gonna risk it, he doesn't
- 35:47Speaker 2: doo it. To his credit.
- 35:49Speaker 3: All right, mine is a guy I picked last year,
- 35:52Speaker 3: but he got hurt, so it kind of negated it.
- 35:54Speaker 3: But the guy who's gonna dazzle everybody in training camp
- 35:57Speaker 3: and then probably not make the team or have any
- 35:59Speaker 3: impact will be Danny Gray.
- 36:00Speaker 1: That is my production. He can run, he can run.
- 36:03Speaker 1: He's just gotta stay healthy.
- 36:05Speaker 3: So I just have a feeling he'll stay healthy and
- 36:07Speaker 3: make a lot of splash plays because remember Jale Hurt
- 36:10Speaker 3: loves to throw the deep ball down the sideline, and
- 36:12Speaker 3: you don't have too many guys other than maybe you know,
- 36:15Speaker 3: we know Davante, but you know Marquise Brown could be
- 36:18Speaker 3: an example of that. But he wouldn't be like a
- 36:20Speaker 3: darling because he's a good He's a first round pick.
- 36:22Speaker 3: So Danny Gray could see some see some deep shots
- 36:25Speaker 3: from either Hurts or Dalton or maybe even Cole Peyton.
- 36:28Speaker 3: And wow, everybody in training camp, that's my prediction.
- 36:31Speaker 2: Don't forget yeah real quick. Danny Gray was a third
- 36:34Speaker 2: round pick a twenty twenty two. This guy could flat
- 36:36Speaker 2: off fla and mess mu oh.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:38Speaker 2: He had three different ir stints in his career. He's
- 36:42Speaker 2: been he's been hurt more than he's been healthy. It's
- 36:45Speaker 2: been one injury after another, at least five. It's it's
- 36:49Speaker 2: terrible luck. But you know what, he's healthy at least
- 36:52Speaker 2: for now. And there is an opening, bollow on your
- 36:55Speaker 2: point about Danny Gray. There's an opening for someone to
- 36:59Speaker 2: come out of the bloat receive Paul Darius Cooper. They're
- 37:01Speaker 2: absolutely that is available here, all right.
- 37:03Speaker 3: And a little bit of experience in the offense because
- 37:05Speaker 3: he played in the Shanahan offense first.
- 37:08Speaker 1: So all right, great stuff. That is our look at
- 37:11Speaker 1: the offense going into training camp.
- 37:13Speaker 3: On the next podcast, we will go through defense and
- 37:15Speaker 3: throw a little bit of special teams in there, and
- 37:17Speaker 3: then again a way will go into Eagles training camp.
- 37:20Speaker 3: That's gonna do it for this episode of Inside the Birds,
- 37:23Speaker 3: Season nine of Inside the Birds for Adam Kaplan.
- 37:28Speaker 1: I'm Jeff Mosher.
