- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to KFI AM 640, the Bill Handel Show
- 0:04Speaker 1: on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Good Wednesday morning to you, October 7th. A day, you know,
- 0:15Speaker 2: that day, the anniversary, I guess, of the October 7th
- 0:24Speaker 2: attacks that were absolutely barbaric and an act of terror.
- 0:30Speaker 2: on Israel. I'm sure that will come up later in
- 0:32Speaker 2: the program, but I couldn't help but make note of
- 0:37Speaker 2: that early this morning. What a horrific scene that was.
- 0:41Speaker 2: An absolute act of terror. And I know that now
- 0:49Speaker 2: there are all kinds of additions to that, but couldn't
- 0:56Speaker 2: help but think about that when waking up this morning.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Kono's last day is today. Neil Svader and the Morning
- 1:02Speaker 2: Crew here, by the way. Handle will be back next week.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Kono's last day, he goes on to bigger and better
- 1:08Speaker 2: things at SportsCenter out in Ontario, you say? Is that
- 1:10Speaker 2: what it is? Ontario. Can you pop up his mic, please, sir?
- 1:14Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 1:14Speaker 3: It would be Ontario. Are we there?
- 1:18Speaker 4: No.
- 1:18Speaker 2: It's a microphone. Are we there? There you go. I'll
- 1:21Speaker 2: try that one. I don't know this board here in studio.
- 1:25Speaker 3: I don't know the studio. Yeah, it's Ontario Sports Empire.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Wow, you're going to be a part of an empire now.
- 1:31Speaker 3: I'm already a part of an empire. I am the
- 1:33Speaker 3: Inland Empire.
- 1:34Speaker 2: You are. All hail Kono.
- 1:37Speaker 3: The grand opening is October 24th.
- 1:39Speaker 2: That's cool. Are we all going to go?
- 1:41Speaker 3: You can come.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Can we mock you?
- 1:43Speaker 3: Yes, come.
- 1:44Speaker 2: That will be awesome.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Right across the street from Ontario Tower Buzzers.
- 1:48Speaker 2: And it's got playgrounds and some other things there, you said.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Playgrounds, 48 fields. It is a massive athletic sports complex.
- 1:57Speaker 5: 48 fields?
- 1:58Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:59Speaker 5: Who plays there?
- 2:00Speaker 3: So it would be athletic tournaments from all over the country.
- 2:04Speaker 3: So there's 12 baseball fields. There's multipurpose fields for lacrosse, rugby,
- 2:09Speaker 3: flag football, soccer.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Nice.
- 2:11Speaker 3: And then we have massive viewing screens for viewing parties.
- 2:14Speaker 2: That's cool.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Super Bowls, World Series, Dodgers.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Is this some place that could be rented out for events? Correct.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Yep.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Wow. That's pretty cool.
- 2:22Speaker 3: Sports directors, tap in.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Nice.
- 2:26Speaker 2: That's awesome. That's very cool. Community-based, kind of very cool.
- 2:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:31Speaker 2: It'll be a little jewel.
- 2:32Speaker 3: It's going to be huge for Ontario. Well, this was
- 2:34Speaker 3: part of when the Ontario Tower Buzzers came to Ontario.
- 2:36Speaker 3: They were like, we want something to come here. And
- 2:38Speaker 3: then they built this complex. So total, it was $ 850 million. Wow.
- 2:44Speaker 3: To bring in people and help the city.
- 2:46Speaker 2: So, yeah. That's awesome. I love it. I think that's
- 2:49Speaker 2: a great story. Kono and I were talking about El Nino. No,
- 2:55Speaker 2: not yet. I see you going. You're okay, New Clay.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Hold on one second. And you were saying that your
- 3:02Speaker 2: dad follows weather because he wanted to be a storm
- 3:05Speaker 2: chaser or something?
- 3:07Speaker 3: Yeah, he ended up being a very successful police officer,
- 3:10Speaker 3: a homicide detective, and inspector. But in his hobbies, he loves.
- 3:16Speaker 2: And I told I told Kono and he's saying, hey,
- 3:19Speaker 2: you know, his dad thinks this El Nino is going
- 3:21Speaker 2: to be a big one because I'm I'm like, it's
- 3:23Speaker 2: hard to tell because you start getting excited. We're going
- 3:26Speaker 2: to have some weather. I don't want anybody hurt, obviously.
- 3:29Speaker 2: And he goes, well, my dad thinks it's going to
- 3:31Speaker 2: be big. And I go, I trust that. a hobbyist
- 3:34Speaker 2: who's really into it more than a.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Lot of the stuff that i hear right we had
- 3:39Speaker 3: this conversation yesterday or not too long ago actually we're
- 3:41Speaker 3: out fishing but because i think every time i watch
- 3:44Speaker 3: the news and read the news it's like fear monger
- 3:46Speaker 3: yeah it's like this is gonna make money exact that's
- 3:49Speaker 3: what ends up it's like the more political something comes
- 3:53Speaker 3: or the more it's played up the the more i'm
- 3:57Speaker 3: let down because it's it's just tight but he tells
- 4:00Speaker 3: me and i believe him Well, he's persuading me that
- 4:04Speaker 3: it's matching like patterns of 1996, and apparently that was
- 4:07Speaker 3: a big year.
- 4:09Speaker 2: And that's the best you can do. You can only
- 4:10Speaker 2: look at patterns and what comes from it. So I'm
- 4:14Speaker 2: kind of curious about El Nino. So good morning to you, sir.
- 4:20Speaker 2: We're sure going to miss the hell out of you.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Me as well, as much as I bust your chops.
- 4:25Speaker 2: I've come to be very fond of you, and it's
- 4:28Speaker 2: going to suck. And that's as mushy as I'll get, bro.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Thank you, because I don't do mush. Because I know
- 4:33Speaker 2: you don't do it well. You try and pretend like
- 4:35Speaker 2: you're a man, and I think that's noble. It's weird, though.
- 4:39Speaker 2: You know, like your dad's like a real man. And then,
- 4:43Speaker 2: you know, all he is, and this is what, I
- 4:47Speaker 2: got to imagine the rest of your family is pretty manly.
- 4:50Speaker 3: No, my sister's, Earl.
- 4:53Speaker 2: She's a girly.
- 4:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:56Speaker 2: But she could probably take you is what I'm saying. Yeah.
- 4:58Speaker 3: She threw me through a window one time.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:00Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:01Speaker 2: God, aren't families great?
- 5:02Speaker 3: It's a good time.
- 5:03Speaker 2: As I sit here with a black eye. Anyways, Amy King.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Good morning.
- 5:08Speaker 5: Good morning.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Go blue. I know you. I know it's a dilemma
- 5:11Speaker 2: for you.
- 5:12Speaker 5: Why?
- 5:13Speaker 2: Why? Well, because you have game five tickets.
- 5:16Speaker 3: It's a huge.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Okay. Yes.
- 5:17Speaker 5: I was like, no, it's not a dilemma to cheer
- 5:19Speaker 5: for the Dodgers. Yes, it's it's. It sucks because game
- 5:24Speaker 5: four is today. And if they win, they clinch the
- 5:27Speaker 5: division and move on to the championship series.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Yay.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:30Speaker 5: And if they play like they did last night, they'll
- 5:32Speaker 5: do it. But I have tickets to game five, which
- 5:35Speaker 5: would be Friday night. So if they win tonight, there
- 5:38Speaker 5: is no game five.
- 5:39Speaker 2: No, but, you know, put the tickets in a shadow
- 5:42Speaker 2: box and go get drunk on Friday.
- 5:46Speaker 5: Well, I'll do that either way, whether I'm at the
- 5:48Speaker 5: game or not.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Tickets or no tickets. Will, good morning, sir. Good morning. Oops.
- 5:54Speaker 2: What the hell?
- 5:56Speaker 3: Issues.
- 5:57Speaker 2: That was my Gary and Shannon thermos mug.
- 6:01Speaker 4: Oh.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Luckily, it was empty. I thought you were building cowbells
- 6:04Speaker 2: on the side.
- 6:06Speaker 5: Yeah, we all have a side hustle.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Yeah, if I can just point people to my Etsy site.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Will on Cowbells, I'd really, you know, if you could
- 6:17Speaker 2: support me. And New Clay, nice to see your face, sir.
- 6:20Speaker 2: How are you?
- 6:21Speaker 4: I'm doing well. I'm trying to figure out what to
- 6:22Speaker 4: do with my hair. Not a problem I have, sir.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm thinking about joining you. Yeah? Yeah.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Just solve the problem.
- 6:31Speaker 2: It's bold. I hate thinking about it. You've got to
- 6:34Speaker 2: be able to handle the sexy, sir. That's all I'm
- 6:36Speaker 2: going to say. I've had many people follow my footsteps
- 6:39Speaker 2: here and go, you know what? I'm going to shave
- 6:40Speaker 2: my head. And then they come to me and go,
- 6:42Speaker 2: how do you deal?
- 6:43Speaker 4: I've tried the goatee before. My last birthday party was evil-themed.
- 6:48Speaker 4: So I grew up my goatee.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:50Speaker 3: I don't think it's for me.
- 6:51Speaker 2: No, I technically have a Van Dyke. I don't have
- 6:54Speaker 2: a mustache.
- 6:54Speaker 1: No, okay.
- 6:55Speaker 2: But that's okay. I'm sorry. Like Kono, he, like in prison,
- 7:00Speaker 2: Kono would be more popular than me. Because he has
- 7:04Speaker 2: the mangina. Whoa.
- 7:06Speaker 3: I'm just more attractive.
- 7:09Speaker 2: But I'm going to let that slide. I'm going to
- 7:11Speaker 2: give you that. All right. Handle on the news. We go.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Lead story. El Nino. That is Spanish for the Nino.
- 7:26Speaker 2: The male child. Climate expert issues most dire. It keeps getting, like,
- 7:32Speaker 2: the last one they said was most dire. They're having
- 7:34Speaker 2: to come up with new, more dire things to say
- 7:38Speaker 2: right now. This is a line out of a movie.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Amy King walks in. Commander of the oceans and weather.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Why the long face? And he goes, I'm officially concerned.
- 7:54Speaker 5: In a world.
- 7:56Speaker 2: So top government officials to local news meteorologists warning about
- 8:00Speaker 2: the development of Super El Nino, which I think the
- 8:07Speaker 2: DCU or the MCU has to jump on that. It's
- 8:09Speaker 2: time for a Latino superhero. El Nino. In the Pacific Ocean,
- 8:17Speaker 2: it's been consistent for several months now. And this is
- 8:20Speaker 2: all based on patterns. All kidding aside, you can't predict
- 8:27Speaker 2: much of anything. But what they do is they look
- 8:30Speaker 2: at what we have known in the past and seen.
- 8:32Speaker 2: They build models. And those models get even better and
- 8:35Speaker 2: better as technology comes around. I'm sure they're using, dare
- 8:40Speaker 2: I say it, AI to, yeah, I know. Ah, you
- 8:47Speaker 2: have to have a scream. Like Frauburger or whatever. Breathe, breathe, breathe, breathe.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Something every time we say that. But experts are saying
- 8:56Speaker 2: the data is clear. Surface temperatures along the equator are
- 9:01Speaker 2: well above normal, raising the odds for an extraordinarily wet
- 9:05Speaker 2: winter in California. I know a lot of that will
- 9:07Speaker 2: be up north, but we're supposed to get it down
- 9:10Speaker 2: here as well, right, is my understanding?
- 9:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Yes, no, maybe so. And do we have some weather
- 9:16Speaker 2: coming our way at the end of this week, Amy?
- 9:19Speaker 5: There's a chance of showers over the weekend, yeah. So
- 9:22Speaker 5: it's going to cool down into the 70s and 80s
- 9:24Speaker 5: by the weekend. And we'll see some more clouds. And
- 9:27Speaker 5: then the chance of showers isn't great, but it's there.
- 9:29Speaker 5: So we'll see.
- 9:30Speaker 2: You know, it's funny. That's the same thing at Kono's house.
- 9:33Speaker 2: He walks in and his wife goes, oh, my God.
- 9:35Speaker 2: He goes, hey, there's a chance of a shower this weekend.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Kono's last day is today. We will be welcoming a
- 9:42Speaker 2: new board op. And yes, I'll have to break them in.
- 9:46Speaker 2: All that work.
- 9:47Speaker 5: Oh, poor Neil.
- 9:48Speaker 1: I know.
- 9:49Speaker 2: It's like, you know, you finally get the shoe where
- 9:50Speaker 2: you want it. It's all comfy and then it's going
- 9:54Speaker 2: to leave. Mario's comfy. No, I love Mario. Mario started
- 9:58Speaker 2: out on... the Fork Report. So I do love me
- 10:03Speaker 2: some Mario. Real comfy guy. And, you know, it's nice
- 10:06Speaker 2: to keep La Raza in play here. I mean, no offense,
- 10:13Speaker 2: White Bread Clay, but I'm just saying. None taken.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:18Speaker 2: No, listen. you're great. The human emoji over there is
- 10:24Speaker 2: all kinds of, all kinds of fun. All right. Neil's
- 10:27Speaker 2: radar in the morning crew with Amy King back to
- 10:30Speaker 2: handle on the news.
- 10:31Speaker 5: We go things that go bump, not in the night,
- 10:35Speaker 5: but in the morning, a Delta airlines plane has bumped
- 10:40Speaker 5: into an air Canada jet on a taxiway at LAX.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it did. It's like, what was some of this? Yeah.
- 10:47Speaker 3: America's hat.
- 10:48Speaker 5: 10.30 yesterday morning, the left wing of the Delta plane
- 10:54Speaker 5: clipped the horizontal stabilizer of the Air Canada flight. The plane,
- 10:59Speaker 5: the Delta jet was on its way to Japan and
- 11:02Speaker 5: the Air Canada flight was being towed to its gate.
- 11:05Speaker 5: It had just landed. No one was hurt. The Delta plane,
- 11:08Speaker 5: 275 people on board and 15 crew members. Maybe a
- 11:12Speaker 5: few delays. But everybody's okay.
- 11:16Speaker 2: That's what matters. Yep. All right, Rahman, Nithya Rahman, bad, bad,
- 11:23Speaker 2: bad for Los Angeles. The so-called democratic socialists of America
- 11:30Speaker 2: are a problem. They are a Trojan horse. I've said
- 11:32Speaker 2: this before. There's nothing democratic about them. And she put
- 11:38Speaker 2: a video out saying, stop fascist liars urging the removal
- 11:42Speaker 2: of the LAPD chief. And Mayor Bass- Has some words
- 11:49Speaker 2: to say over the video accusing the council member of
- 11:52Speaker 2: calling the city's police officers fascist liars.
- 11:57Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 11:59Speaker 2: I can. Are there bad people and everything? Yes, absolutely.
- 12:04Speaker 2: And we should weed any of those out. But for
- 12:07Speaker 2: God's sake, man, I don't know. Unless you're going to
- 12:10Speaker 2: deputize every single one of us and have just a
- 12:16Speaker 2: roaming force. of civilians with handguns.
- 12:20Speaker 5: That sounds like a great idea.
- 12:21Speaker 2: You know what? Listen, you get one or the other.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Either you take care of us or I got to
- 12:26Speaker 2: take care of me and my family. Period. That's it.
- 12:30Speaker 5: You got to wonder what they think would happen if
- 12:33Speaker 5: they abolish police and open the jails. Do they think
- 12:38Speaker 5: all of these people are just going to start behaving better?
- 12:40Speaker 2: I don't understand.
- 12:41Speaker 5: I don't get it.
- 12:42Speaker 2: It's very weird. There's issues in Younger generations, and I
- 12:48Speaker 2: hate saying that because, hey, they bring new smarts, new
- 12:51Speaker 2: intellect and new ways of seeing things. And I'm all
- 12:53Speaker 2: for that. And in a true democracy, the majority rules.
- 12:58Speaker 2: I'm sorry. It just does. And if that's the way
- 13:00Speaker 2: they want to take, if the new generation wants to
- 13:03Speaker 2: take the country in a different direction, so be it.
- 13:06Speaker 2: But for all the hype and frustration of President Donald
- 13:10Speaker 2: Trump pushing the limits of the Constitution and poking it
- 13:13Speaker 2: to see how far he can push it. I would
- 13:17Speaker 2: much as I'm not a fan, as I've made this
- 13:20Speaker 2: very clear and did not vote for Trump, I would
- 13:22Speaker 2: say I'd rather have that than someone trying to change
- 13:25Speaker 2: it all the way out and just get rid of things.
- 13:28Speaker 2: And that's what socialists want to do. And I find
- 13:31Speaker 2: it scary. So in this particular case, Bass is pushing back.
- 13:36Speaker 2: She says it's dangerous and extreme rhetoric. I agree. And
- 13:41Speaker 2: those are fighting words. And I will say this. Our
- 13:44Speaker 2: hope is to get Mayor Bass on the air today.
- 13:47Speaker 2: I know that we've reached out to her. If we
- 13:50Speaker 2: get her or we hear back, I'll let you know.
- 13:53Speaker 2: But I would really like to hear what she has
- 13:55Speaker 2: to say about that.
- 13:57Speaker 5: Well, low and slow was part of a deadly combination.
- 14:01Speaker 5: The news helicopter, the NBC4 helicopter that crashed in Chatsworth
- 14:05Speaker 5: last month killed the pilot, an onboard journalist, and then
- 14:08Speaker 5: also somebody on the ground. A preliminary report from the
- 14:12Speaker 5: NTSB shows that it was flying low and had slowed
- 14:15Speaker 5: down to an airspeed of about six knots in the
- 14:19Speaker 5: minute before it went down. The report was released yesterday.
- 14:22Speaker 5: It said that just before the helicopter went down, it
- 14:26Speaker 5: was at about 800 feet up. It had slowed to
- 14:32Speaker 5: about seven miles per hour, conditions that may have prevented
- 14:35Speaker 5: the pilot from executing a safety maneuver known as an autorotation.
- 14:40Speaker 5: So when the helicopter's rotors stop rotating, a pilot can
- 14:44Speaker 5: use auto rotation to try to get enough momentum and
- 14:48Speaker 5: upward flow on the blades to increase the rotation. And
- 14:51Speaker 5: that helps provide some lift to control the aircraft so
- 14:56Speaker 5: it doesn't descend quickly.
- 14:58Speaker 2: And that's a last resort type measure from pilots that
- 15:02Speaker 2: I've talked to. I've been up in helicopters many times
- 15:06Speaker 2: for work and things like that. And- You know, that
- 15:10Speaker 2: is fascinating to watch someone fly a non-fixed wing aircraft.
- 15:18Speaker 2: It really, it just looks insane. It looks like a
- 15:21Speaker 2: video game. So these are seasoned pilots and it's a
- 15:26Speaker 2: sad story that that circumstance hit the way it did. Yeah.
- 15:30Speaker 5: And they said, this is a preliminary. It didn't really
- 15:33Speaker 5: say what caused it. They said, these are factors. And
- 15:36Speaker 5: so that could still be months out, but they're still investigating.
- 15:40Speaker 2: There is a bolt on the propeller that's called the
- 15:45Speaker 2: Jesus bolt. That if that fails or comes off, you
- 15:52Speaker 2: just go down. And that's why the name is the
- 15:54Speaker 2: Jesus bolt. If it comes off, you pray. It's pretty scary. Fascinating,
- 16:01Speaker 2: but pretty scary indeed. All right, real quickly, House of Horrors,
- 16:04Speaker 2: what a crazy story. A couple with 21 children, 19
- 16:08Speaker 2: of whom were born through surrogates, ran a House of
- 16:13Speaker 2: Horrors sprawling mansion there in Arcadia. And prosecutors are coming
- 16:18Speaker 2: out just this week alleging that the pair employed a
- 16:21Speaker 2: group of nannies who were encouraged to administer beatings and
- 16:25Speaker 2: other punishments. And prosecutors are going full tilt on this,
- 16:30Speaker 2: said the incidents were captured on camera. and that the
- 16:33Speaker 2: parents could be seen laughing at times as their children
- 16:36Speaker 2: were forcefully disciplined. Crazy story. The couple pleaded not guilty
- 16:43Speaker 2: during the lengthy appearance in a Pasadena courtroom on Tuesday.
- 16:48Speaker 5: The kids are between two or three months old and
- 16:51Speaker 5: five years old. There's 21 of them.
- 16:54Speaker 2: May they burn in the hottest pits of hell.
- 16:57Speaker 1: L.A.
- 16:57Speaker 5: 's putting a hold on a plan to put more
- 16:59Speaker 5: eyes on drivers. The L.A. City Council cited lingering concerns
- 17:05Speaker 5: about the possible misuse of police license plate readers in
- 17:09Speaker 5: delaying an agreement for three months that would let the
- 17:12Speaker 5: city put up hundreds of cameras on light poles around
- 17:17Speaker 5: the city. Those would help the police department identify vehicles,
- 17:23Speaker 5: license plates, pedestrians and objects on city streets and sidewalks
- 17:28Speaker 5: using A.I. Yeah.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Well, what are you going to do?
- 17:34Speaker 5: What's that?
- 17:35Speaker 2: Oh, that was our AI sound effect. Yeah. You remember
- 17:38Speaker 2: every time we say AI, we have to.
- 17:40Speaker 5: Have something that sounds horrible like we're all going to die?
- 17:42Speaker 3: Yep.
- 17:43Speaker 5: That was a horrible sound.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Aruga, aruga, aruga. All right. So if you remember, was
- 17:50Speaker 2: it that horrible flood that took place in Nepal in
- 17:57Speaker 2: September of that we all saw, you had nearly 33,000
- 18:01Speaker 2: people have been affected, about 7,500 homes were damaged, a
- 18:06Speaker 2: lot of people missing. This is the sad part that
- 18:09Speaker 2: we hear whenever these things happen. Of course, Nepal has
- 18:14Speaker 2: now announced its intention to cease the search and rescue
- 18:18Speaker 2: operations for victims. Oh, it was even earlier. I thought
- 18:21Speaker 2: it was back in September, actually, late August, August 26th,
- 18:25Speaker 2: killed at least 1,400 people in Nepal. Plus, thousands more
- 18:31Speaker 2: still missing. And it's a sad thing because hope against hope.
- 18:34Speaker 2: And if you remember, there were a couple really miraculous
- 18:38Speaker 2: stories that came out of that of people that were
- 18:40Speaker 2: buried and they still lived. But that puts an end
- 18:45Speaker 2: to that particular part of or chapter of that horrible story.
- 18:51Speaker 5: Taking sides. North Korea has criticized the criticized the U.S.
- 18:55Speaker 5: over its arms sales and military support for Taiwan. North
- 19:00Speaker 5: Korean international affairs analyst Kim Myung-chol said U.S. policy on
- 19:07Speaker 5: Taiwan was undermining peace and stability in the region. Last week,
- 19:12Speaker 5: Taiwan received the first two of a batch of 66
- 19:18Speaker 5: new fighter jets that were ordered back in 2019. It says,
- 19:22Speaker 5: don't mess with China.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Well, stop giving crap to Russia. How about that? Twinsies.
- 19:31Speaker 2: FBI has a whistleblower. What are the odds? And the
- 19:35Speaker 2: White House has been pushing unconstitutional probe of protesters. So
- 19:41Speaker 2: this whistleblower says, hey, the White House is like digging
- 19:44Speaker 2: in to these protesters. Unconstitutional?
- 19:48Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 19:50Speaker 2: But probably done by every single president at one point
- 19:55Speaker 2: or another. I'm guessing, yeah, as well. But the Trump
- 19:58Speaker 2: administration pushed the FBI to investigate apparently Los Angeles protesters
- 20:03Speaker 2: in violation of their constitutional rights. and the Bureau's policy.
- 20:07Speaker 2: So this is a former FBI supervisor that alleged this
- 20:11Speaker 2: in a new whistleblower complaint. Jill Fields is the former
- 20:18Speaker 2: supervisory intelligence analyst in the FBI out here in the
- 20:23Speaker 2: LA field office. So if it's true, and it most
- 20:28Speaker 2: likely is, it doesn't seem far from Trump and his desire.
- 20:33Speaker 2: He's one of those guys who wants to know everything
- 20:35Speaker 2: about everybody that's his enemies. That doesn't surprise me at all.
- 20:43Speaker 5: An Olympian is pushing back. Remember Olympic canoeist David Hearn?
- 20:49Speaker 5: He was arrested, accused of vandalizing the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool.
- 20:57Speaker 5: He was indicted on a charge of felony destruction of
- 21:00Speaker 5: government property. It was dismissed. And now his attorneys say
- 21:05Speaker 5: they've asked the internal watchdogs at the Justice and Interior
- 21:08Speaker 5: Departments to investigate the circumstances surrounding his arrest, his indictment
- 21:13Speaker 5: and the dismissal. They say because of the actions of
- 21:16Speaker 5: various DOJ and DOI employees, Mr. Hearn was deprived of
- 21:20Speaker 5: his liberty, indicted for a crime he did not commit,
- 21:23Speaker 5: threatened with incarceration of up to 10 years and endured
- 21:26Speaker 5: the defaming, Of his name and reputation by high-ranking government officials.
- 21:33Speaker 2: I'm all right with that. I mean, really. They did
- 21:38Speaker 2: drag this guy through the mud, and it turns out
- 21:41Speaker 2: that it's a contractor's botched installation, not vandalism. I'd be pissed, too.
- 21:48Speaker 2: And I don't even own a kayak. I'd still be angry.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Kono's last day today, gang. Going on to bigger and
- 21:56Speaker 2: better things. But we wish him well, for sure. We're
- 22:01Speaker 2: going to chat with you a little later.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Oh.
- 22:04Speaker 2: You know.
- 22:04Speaker 3: I thought that was it.
- 22:05Speaker 2: No.
- 22:06Speaker 5: Uh-uh. Okay.
- 22:07Speaker 2: No, we will.
- 22:08Speaker 3: You can also follow me. I'm on Instagram.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Okay, we'll give it out.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Pro Kono.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Wow.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Because I'm a producer.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Yeah, no, no. By nature.
- 22:16Speaker 1: No, no.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Coming here was the first time I worked on a board.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Okay.
- 22:21Speaker 3: But then they're like, it's Anne.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Are you board shaming?
- 22:24Speaker 3: They go, Anne was here.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Well, I think you would have made it to.
- 22:28Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 22:33Speaker 2: You'd have to stay and be loyal. That's okay. It's okay.
- 22:39Speaker 2: I'm just going to miss my time with your parents
- 22:41Speaker 2: and stuff. Like I've really bonded with them. I kind
- 22:43Speaker 2: of see them as my family now.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Yeah, my dad did text me. He said, you gave
- 22:47Speaker 3: your mom and grandma a shout-out. Where's mine? I've been
- 22:50Speaker 3: listening to KFI before them. I said, sorry, Dad.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and what did I say?
- 22:54Speaker 3: You said you did give him a shout-out.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I did.
- 22:55Speaker 3: He just said he didn't hear it.
- 22:56Speaker 2: I love you, Dad.
- 23:00Speaker 3: I love him, too.
- 23:01Speaker 2: You know?
- 23:01Speaker 3: Thank you. Okay, move on.
- 23:02Speaker 2: He defended us. Yes. He protected us. Yes. You push buttons.
- 23:08Speaker 2: What a disappointment. All right, Neil Savater and the Morning Crew.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Handle will be back next week. Amy, King, and me
- 23:15Speaker 2: go back to Handle on the News. Trump administration struggling
- 23:20Speaker 2: to get this clear answer about the death of Russian
- 23:23Speaker 2: laboratory worker at an institute dedicated to studying the plague
- 23:27Speaker 2: and has formally escalated its request for information from the country.
- 23:32Speaker 2: This is amid days of stonewalling from Russia, pushback, and
- 23:37Speaker 2: not given any information. um officials there in russia are
- 23:44Speaker 2: just not explaining the mysterious circumstances surrounding the episode i
- 23:48Speaker 2: don't know if you know this or not it's not
- 23:50Speaker 2: just in on the tvs and in the movies uh
- 23:54Speaker 2: but people disappear in russia sometimes very important people they
- 23:59Speaker 2: still do like all that stuff when you go to
- 24:00Speaker 2: the spy museum in in dc um and it's like
- 24:05Speaker 2: oh the olden days and the cold wars no russia's
- 24:07Speaker 2: still that's like You know, what do you mean olden days?
- 24:10Speaker 2: We're still doing all this stuff. We got it. We're
- 24:13Speaker 2: still doing it. So the death of this technician at
- 24:17Speaker 2: this research that does anti-plague institute immediately raised alarms throughout
- 24:24Speaker 2: the administration. So that prompted an investigation. We'll see how
- 24:27Speaker 2: far we get there. Oh, yeah. Come on. He goes
- 24:31Speaker 2: out for smokes, does not come back.
- 24:33Speaker 3: It happens.
- 24:35Speaker 2: All right, Amy.
- 24:36Speaker 5: Student uproar. Students have been protesting in France for the
- 24:41Speaker 5: last couple of weeks. Schools are closed, colleges are shut down.
- 24:48Speaker 5: And after two weeks of students blockading schools and at
- 24:51Speaker 5: times clashing with police, several French labor unions have joined in.
- 24:57Speaker 5: People gathered in dozens of cities, including Paris, Lyon, Marseille
- 25:01Speaker 5: and Toulouse. They're protesting overcrowded classrooms, understaffing and inequalities in
- 25:09Speaker 5: the education system. They're sick of it and they're not
- 25:12Speaker 5: taking it anymore.
- 25:14Speaker 2: You know, it's interesting if you read a lot of
- 25:16Speaker 2: the comments on these news stories, young folks there are like.
- 25:22Speaker 2: The police are not our police. This is at the
- 25:24Speaker 2: core of this belief about getting rid of police and stuff.
- 25:27Speaker 2: They're like, they're just protecting the status quo. And well, yeah,
- 25:32Speaker 2: that's called a society. You're trying to protect the masses.
- 25:37Speaker 5: And keep them from burning and pillaging.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Yeah. But that's where we're moving to. It's like, they're
- 25:44Speaker 2: not protecting me. They're protecting the rich people in houses. Well, yeah,
- 25:49Speaker 2: people with things to protect, I suppose. your hovel or
- 25:54Speaker 2: your lean-to doesn't really need protection unless there's a strong wind,
- 25:58Speaker 2: I suppose. All right, Israelis are mourning the anniversary of
- 26:04Speaker 2: October 7th and the attacks as Palestinians are dealing with
- 26:10Speaker 2: living in the devastation of Gaza. Horrible story, not thrilled
- 26:16Speaker 2: about Netanyahu by any stretch of the imagination. But this
- 26:22Speaker 2: is what I know. If that attack did not take
- 26:26Speaker 2: place on October 7th, we would not be watching what
- 26:31Speaker 2: is unfolding there now, most likely. Now, there's been problems
- 26:36Speaker 2: there for a long time, and it's not going to
- 26:38Speaker 2: be solved in one situation. But I will tell you,
- 26:42Speaker 2: today's oppressed are tomorrow's monsters, because Israelis are And Israel,
- 26:50Speaker 2: it was created out of the ashes of the Holocaust.
- 26:53Speaker 2: And once that was a group of people that were
- 26:57Speaker 2: oppressed to the point of six million deaths plus are
- 27:00Speaker 2: now seen as the oppressor. You will never, ever win, ever,
- 27:06Speaker 2: ever win on the oppression front and who's oppressed and
- 27:10Speaker 2: who's not. Because if you want them to not be oppressed,
- 27:14Speaker 2: then they become successful and then the successful are seen
- 27:17Speaker 2: as the oppressor.
- 27:20Speaker 5: Three secrets to a long life. Water, coffee and wine.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Amen.
- 27:26Speaker 5: I love it.
- 27:26Speaker 2: OK, so there's what was the first one?
- 27:29Speaker 5: Water, purified water.
- 27:31Speaker 2: What's that?
- 27:32Speaker 5: Water that's pure. Water. Yeah.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Oh, that's that clear crap that doesn't give you a buzz.
- 27:38Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 27:39Speaker 5: So there was a guy, a longevity researcher. What an
- 27:42Speaker 5: interesting job, a longevity researcher. His name is Dan Buechner.
- 27:46Speaker 5: And he's been checking out people in the blue zones,
- 27:50Speaker 5: like Sardinia, Italy, Okinawa, Japan. Isn't Yorba Linda? Yeah.
- 27:54Speaker 3: Loma Linda.
- 27:55Speaker 5: Loma Linda is it. Okay. Loma Linda is also one
- 27:58Speaker 5: of the rare blue zones. And that's where people.
- 28:01Speaker 3: Live to 100.
- 28:02Speaker 5: And it's not that unusual where it is in other parts.
- 28:05Speaker 5: So they said that drinking purified water, he says that's indisputable.
- 28:10Speaker 5: It's the best thing you can do to live to 100.
- 28:13Speaker 5: But also black coffee.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Drink.
- 28:15Speaker 5: Coffee black, one to two cups a day. Quit by noon.
- 28:18Speaker 5: He says that'll help you live longer. And then there's
- 28:21Speaker 5: red wine. I like this study. I'm going to live
- 28:27Speaker 5: to be 150 because all three of these are my
- 28:29Speaker 5: favorite things. He does say that he's aware of negative
- 28:32Speaker 5: press that wine is getting, but it is consumed in
- 28:35Speaker 5: the blue zones and seems to add years to your life.
- 28:39Speaker 2: A couple things. I was joking about water. But one thing,
- 28:42Speaker 2: when I went through the heavy dehydration after my surgery,
- 28:50Speaker 2: you see how important water is. Your skin changes, everything.
- 28:55Speaker 2: It was bizarre how important, because I actually joke, I
- 29:00Speaker 2: do enjoy water quite a bit, but it was really bizarre,
- 29:03Speaker 2: like how important it is. And I know that sounds stupid,
- 29:06Speaker 2: but Because it's water. Yeah, because water, right? But how
- 29:10Speaker 2: quickly your body goes into very unnatural places when you
- 29:16Speaker 2: do not have enough water in your system. Black coffee.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Does it say anything about having five espressos, five shots
- 29:24Speaker 2: of espresso?
- 29:26Speaker 5: It doesn't recommend that. It says one to two cups
- 29:29Speaker 5: of black coffee a day.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Okay. Well, you tell me that at the empty cup.
- 29:36Speaker 2: And I'm going to go get a refill. All right,
- 29:37Speaker 2: stick around. More to come. Neil Saavedra and the Morning Crew.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Bill Handel is out till next week. Happy to be
- 29:44Speaker 2: with you this week. Stick around.
- 29:46Speaker 1: You've been listening to The Bill Handel Show. Catch my
- 29:49Speaker 1: show Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and
