- 0:00A few months before our Lord would be crucified, he was in
- 0:06the northern part of Galilee. He was about 25 miles northeast
- 0:14of the Sea of Galilee, in a region called Caesarea Philippi.
- 0:21It was named such by Philip the Tetrarch because he wanted to
- 0:25name a city after Caesar, and of course his name as well, so that
- 0:30he would be well known. But it also separated it from
- 0:33Caesarea Meritima, which is on the sea.
- 0:38And our Lord and his disciples were in this region, and there
- 0:42were all kinds of false gods around them.
- 0:46And there had been, according to Greek mythology, a a Greek God
- 0:51by the name of Pan or Panas. It was called Panas before it
- 0:57was called Caesarea Philippi. He was said to have been born in
- 1:01a cave there. If you go there today, you can
- 1:04still enter that cave. And it was here where our Lord
- 1:08would give his men an exam. It was like their final exam,
- 1:15but the exam would only have one question.
- 1:20And if you understand the question and you get the
- 1:23question right, that's good news.
- 1:27If you get the question or the answer to the question wrong,
- 1:31well, that's bad news. And so he would ask them just
- 1:35one question, because it's the question that no man can ever
- 1:39escape or avoid. In fact, everybody in the room
- 1:43today is asked the same question because everyone will have to
- 1:49face the answer. And the question was simply
- 1:53this, who do men say that I am? The question focused on the
- 2:00identity of the Lord Jesus. And so the disciples would
- 2:06answer by saying, well, some say you're Jeremiah, others Elijah,
- 2:12some say you're John the Baptist.
- 2:16Some say you're you're just one of the prophets.
- 2:20In other words, everybody is saying that you're great, but
- 2:23nobody is saying that you are God.
- 2:28Now Christ didn't ask the question for information
- 2:32purposes. He knew what the religious
- 2:35leaders thought of him. They thought he was of Satan.
- 2:39And so he wasn't asking about what the religious leaders
- 2:42thought about his identity. He wanted to know what the
- 2:46Jewish people thought of his identity, and the Jewish people
- 2:52for all practical purposes, loved Jesus.
- 2:56It was the religious establishment that hated Jesus.
- 3:02So he asked the question, what is the popular opinion?
- 3:04Not that whatever the popular opinion was would change the
- 3:09ministry of our Lord. He just wanted to know what the
- 3:13popular opinion of his ministry was.
- 3:17After all, in a few short months, he would be crucified.
- 3:22And then he asked the question towards men.
- 3:24But who do you say that I am? It doesn't make any difference
- 3:30what the multitudes say. What do you say?
- 3:36Not the popular opinion. What is your personal opinion?
- 3:43Who do you say that I am? And Peter would speak for the 12
- 3:51He would say, Thou art the Christ, the Messiah, the Son,
- 3:57equal in nature to the living God.
- 4:03And the response that Christ gives is truly remarkable
- 4:10because the Lord says, blessed are you, Simon Barjona, for
- 4:16flesh and blood did not reveal that to you, but my Father who
- 4:23is in heaven revealed that to you.
- 4:28In other words, if you are to pass the ultimate exam, you
- 4:33cannot do it on your own. You have to have a divine
- 4:40enlightenment because flesh and blood cannot reveal that to you.
- 4:46I cannot convince you that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the
- 4:52living God. I can't convince you of that.
- 4:56I can preach to you. I can show you in Scripture
- 4:59where that's the case, but unless the Lord illuminates your
- 5:02heart and your mind, you will never believe that Jesus is the
- 5:09Christ, the Son of the living God.
- 5:13Why is that? Because you have been blinded.
- 5:20You've been blinded by Satan. You've been blinded from birth.
- 5:25You have a supernatural blindness.
- 5:29Therefore you need a supernatural enlightenment.
- 5:32The Bible says that this way in 2nd Corinthians 4 verse #3 And
- 5:36even if our gospel is veiled, that is veiled to those who are
- 5:39perishing. In this case, the God of this
- 5:42world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they
- 5:47might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ,
- 5:51who is the image of God. Satan has blinded the mind of
- 6:00those people who do not know him, so they will not believe
- 6:05that Jesus Christ is God in the flesh.
- 6:09And so in order for you to pass the ultimate exam, you cannot do
- 6:13it because you have a proper intellect.
- 6:17You cannot do it because you're a smart person or you've read a
- 6:21lot. The only way you can pass the
- 6:24ultimate exam is if the Father in heaven enlightens your soul
- 6:32to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living
- 6:39God. That's just remarkable.
- 6:43Now here's the good news for those of us who have been
- 6:47enlightened, for those of us who know the identity of Christ, we
- 6:53want to praise His name. We want to thank Him that He has
- 6:58revealed Himself to us. Well, we want to praise Him
- 7:02because we know the identity of the Christ child.
- 7:06We don't wonder as to who He is. We know who He is, which makes
- 7:13our praise of him brilliant, beautiful, because we glory in
- 7:20the fact that we have been enlightened to the truth of the
- 7:24gospel. And so it accentuates our
- 7:27praise. We want to honor the Lord.
- 7:32So as we journey this pathway of praise that we've been on now
- 7:35for for several weeks, the person of praise causes our
- 7:42journey to be filled with joy because of who Christ is.
- 7:49And so we have tried to unveil to you through the Scriptures
- 7:56the identity of the Messiah, the identity of the Christ child,
- 8:04the identity of of the Lord God of Israel.
- 8:08That is just so important. See Israel had a problem and
- 8:14that is this Hosea 4 verse #6 My people are destroyed for lack of
- 8:21knowledge. They do not know me.
- 8:26It's not that they didn't know the Scriptures that they knew
- 8:28the scriptures. We we saying come thou long
- 8:32expected Jesus. The expected one was a was a a
- 8:38title for the Messiah. Psalm 1/18/26 Psalm 40 verse #7
- 8:43He is called the Erica my, the expected one, the coming one.
- 8:49And even at the triumphal entry, Psalm 1/18/26 was quoted by the
- 8:54people of Israel. Blessed is he who comes in the
- 8:57name of the Lord. Blessed is the coming one.
- 9:02They hailed him as the expected one.
- 9:06It's the question that John the Baptist asked in in Luke's
- 9:09Gospel the the 7th chapter when he sent his men to go ask Jesus.
- 9:14Are you the expected one or should we expect someone else?
- 9:19Should we look for someone else? Are you the Messiah?
- 9:22Because the Messiah is the expected one.
- 9:25All of our expectations are in the coming Messiah.
- 9:29Are you him? But Israel did not know Him.
- 9:37They did not understand him. But we who do know him, we
- 9:43praise Him continually, we exalt His name, we magnify the Lord
- 9:50Jesus Christ. So as we journey along the
- 9:53pathway of praise, we're looking at the person of praise.
- 9:57And we began with the phrase Yahweh Hassinu, which means the
- 10:01Lord is my Maker. He's the one who forms me.
- 10:06He's the one who fashions me. And then we moved from there to
- 10:11Yave Sebayath, which is the Lord of armies.
- 10:15The one who forms me is the one who fights for me.
- 10:20And the last week we talked about Yave Rafi, which is the
- 10:24Lord is my shepherd, the one who who forms me and fights for me
- 10:33is the one who feeds me. And today I I want to take you
- 10:39to an Old Testament passage which is very familiar to us,
- 10:45but is one of the two chapters in the Old Testament that are
- 10:49absolutely pivotal to understanding the identity and
- 10:54the ministry of the coming Messiah.
- 10:59It's found in Genesis chapter 22.
- 11:01So if you got your Bible, turn back with me there, if you would
- 11:04please. Genesis chapter 22.
- 11:13And in Genesis 22, you have a couple of firsts.
- 11:16That is the first mention of certain words in the Bible.
- 11:21So again, as I said last week and the week before, whenever
- 11:26something is mentioned first in the Bible, you need to take
- 11:31note, You need to understand why this is the first time.
- 11:38So the Bible reads as follows. Genesis 22 verse #1 Now it came
- 11:42about after these things that God tested Abraham and said to
- 11:46him, Abraham, He said, here I am.
- 11:50He said take now your son, your only son whom you love.
- 11:56Isaac, stop right there. This is the first time the word
- 12:02love is mentioned in the Bible. That's very, very important
- 12:11because God is going to test Abraham as to his true love for
- 12:17him, the son of God, the living God.
- 12:22So he says, I want you to take now your son, your only son.
- 12:26But that wasn't his only son, because Ishmael was older.
- 12:32Ishmael was born first. But Ishmael was not the only
- 12:36begotten son. Isaac was the only begotten Son,
- 12:41the Son of choice, the Son who had the right to the
- 12:45inheritance. That was Isaac.
- 12:50And so when the Lord says take now your son, your, your only
- 12:53begotten Son, the Son of your love, OK, which is symbolic of
- 12:59Christ, who is the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and
- 13:01truth. And he was the only begotten
- 13:03son, the monogamies of of the Father, the the son of choice,
- 13:08the son of preeminence. He says, take the son that you
- 13:13love. And then he says this and go to
- 13:17the land of Moriah. That's the very important phrase
- 13:23because Moriah means foreseen, very important to the narrative.
- 13:31If you don't understand what Mariah means, you're going to
- 13:33miss the point of the entire narrative.
- 13:37It means foreseen. So God is telling Abraham, I
- 13:41want you to take your son, your only son, to a place that I have
- 13:45foreseen. That's the place called Mariah,
- 13:52the Book of Chronicles. It would be where Solomon would
- 13:55build the Temple on Mount Moriah.
- 13:59So he says, go to the land of Moriah and offer him there as a
- 14:05burnt offering on one of the mountains, of which I will tell
- 14:09you. So Abraham rose early in the
- 14:10morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men
- 14:14with him and Isaac's son. They split wood for the burnt
- 14:18offering and the Rose and went to the place of which God had
- 14:21told him. On the third day.
- 14:24Abraham raised his eyes and saw the place from a distance.
- 14:28Abraham said to his young men, Stay here with the donkey and I,
- 14:33and the lad will go over there, and we will worship and return
- 14:38to you again. The very first time the word
- 14:41worship is used in the Bible because worship always involves
- 14:48sacrifice. If you come to church and you
- 14:53don't sacrifice, you haven't worshiped.
- 14:57Worship us all about sacrifice, giving yourself away.
- 15:03And so the very first mention of the word worship, by the way,
- 15:07before Exodus chapter 20, before the 10 commandments were given,
- 15:13when God said you shall have no other gods before me, you
- 15:15should, you should only worship me.
- 15:17No other gods before that was ever given.
- 15:20The word worship is mentioned because it's all about
- 15:23sacrifice. And so God says, or Abraham
- 15:29says, I am, the lad will go up and worship and we will return
- 15:37to you. So it says verse 6, Abraham took
- 15:42the wood of the burnt offering and then laid it on Isaac his
- 15:45son, and took in his hand the fire and the knife.
- 15:49So the two of them walked on together.
- 15:51Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, my father.
- 15:54He said, here I am my son. He said, behold the fire in the
- 15:58wood. But where is the lamb for the
- 16:02burnt offering? Abraham said God will provide
- 16:09for himself the lamb for the burnt offering my son.
- 16:15So the two of them walked on together.
- 16:21Very important phrase. So the Lord God will provide for
- 16:28himself the land. The word provide is year a very
- 16:38important to the narrative. Again, why?
- 16:43Because God, we'll see. Because the word Yuri is the
- 16:49word of vision. It's used 1300 times in the Old
- 16:54Testament. All but 4 is it translated to
- 16:59see or be seen. The other four times it's
- 17:04translated to provide, but the 1296 other times it's used, it's
- 17:13used to see or be seen. So Abraham is telling his son
- 17:19Isaac the Lord will see for himself a lamb.
- 17:29Now remember they went to Moriah, which means foreseen.
- 17:36So on the place foreseen by God, God will see for himself the
- 17:43land that will be provided. So you read on.
- 17:48Then they came to the place of which God had told him.
- 17:52And Abraham built the altar there and arranged the wood, and
- 17:54bound to son Isaac, and laid him on the altar on top of the wood.
- 17:58Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knight to slay his
- 18:01son. But the Angel of the Lord, now
- 18:04that's the pre and card of Christ.
- 18:05The Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said,
- 18:09Abraham, Abraham. And he said, Here I am.
- 18:13He said, do not stretch out your hand against the lad and do
- 18:16nothing to him. For now I know that you fear
- 18:19God, since you have not withheld your son, your only Son, from
- 18:26me. You mean to tell me there's
- 18:29something that God doesn't know? For God says, now I know that
- 18:35you fear me. God doesn't say that for his
- 18:39purposes, He says it for Abraham's purposes.
- 18:44He says that Abraham, now I know.
- 18:48Meaning the knowledge of You fearing Me has been seen,
- 18:55because in Your worship You are willing to sacrifice that which
- 19:00is dearest to You on behalf of Me, and only those who fear My
- 19:05name are those who sacrifice that which is dearest to them on
- 19:11My behalf. Very, very important.
- 19:16And so you read on. It says that Abraham raised his
- 19:21eyes and looked, and behold, behind him a ram caught in the
- 19:25thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the
- 19:33ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the place of
- 19:38his son. Abraham called the name of that
- 19:43place Yahweh Yuray. The Lord will provide or better
- 19:52translation, The Lord will be seen, as it is said to this day.
- 20:01In the mount of the Lord it will be seen.
- 20:08In Moriah, the mount of the Lord, in the place foreseen by
- 20:13God, what will be seen a substitute in the place of
- 20:23Isaac. So when you go to John's gospel
- 20:27and read John 856, it says Abraham rejoiced to see my day.
- 20:37When did Abraham rejoice to see Christ's day?
- 20:42Genesis chapter 22. That's when Abraham rejoiced,
- 20:47because there he called the place the Lord will be seen.
- 20:52How did Abraham know that the Lord would be seen on the place
- 20:56foreseen by God unless it was revealed to him in a
- 21:00supernatural kind of way from God himself that there would be
- 21:04a substitutionary sacrifice on behalf of man which Christ the
- 21:10Messiah would provide so that we would not have to play pay the
- 21:14penalty for our sin? And so Abraham says, on this
- 21:22place the Lord will be seen. Yahweh Yuray, the Lord that
- 21:29forms me, Yahweh Hasinu, is the Lord who fights for me.
- 21:35Yabe Savayov, the Lord who fights for me, is the Lord who
- 21:38feeds me, Yabe Rafi. And the Lord who feeds me is the
- 21:44Lord who foresees all that will happen to me.
- 21:49Yabe Yuray, God sees everything. That's how He can feed you
- 21:56properly. That's how he can fight for you
- 22:01aggressively. That's how we can form you
- 22:04perfectly. Because he foresees everything.
- 22:10He foreknows it, but he also foresees it.
- 22:14He sees it well enough in advance because he is the the
- 22:17God of eternity, the eternal nature of God.
- 22:23He sees the past, the present, and the future all at once
- 22:28because He exists in the past, the present, and the future all
- 22:33at once. He sees it all.
- 22:37And therefore we can rest and praise His glorious name as we
- 22:41journey down the pathway of praise because of who He is.
- 22:47I can rest at ease this Christmas season.
- 22:52I can rest at ease all throughout the year because it's
- 22:56my God who foresees everything in advance.
- 23:02He is the one who was mapped out all my days before there was
- 23:06even yet one of them. He knows every event that will
- 23:10take place in the future. He knows what's going to happen
- 23:15to my family, in my marriage, in my work, in my school, in my
- 23:21play. He knows it all.
- 23:23He's foreseen it all, and He is my provider.
- 23:27That's how He can provide for us because He knows in advance all
- 23:32that will happen to me. Let me give you another
- 23:38description of our Lord. Turn me to Exodus chapter 15,
- 23:45Exodus chapter 15. And when you come to Exodus
- 23:50chapter 15, you have the second experience of Israel having been
- 23:55LED out of Egyptian bondage. The first experience is when
- 24:01they come to the Red Sea and Pharaoh's army is bearing down
- 24:06upon them and they are afraid that they're going to die.
- 24:12And Moses says, stand still and watch the salvation of the Lord.
- 24:16Watch the delivering power of God.
- 24:19Watch the rescuing nature of God.
- 24:22Watch the saving nature of God at work.
- 24:26Of course, you know the story. You've seen the movie and the
- 24:32waters part. Israel goes through on dry land,
- 24:36right? Supernatural waters depart.
- 24:40There should be mud, but there was no mud.
- 24:43It was dry land. They walked through on dry land,
- 24:47and Pharaoh and his army, they went after them, and of course
- 24:51they all drowned in the sea. And then you have the song of
- 24:54Moses and Exodus chapter 15 concluded in verse #21 when
- 25:03Miriam said, sing to the Lord, for he is highly exalted.
- 25:07The horse and rider he has hurled into the sea.
- 25:11Can you imagine the excitement, the joy of Israel knowing that
- 25:16their God had performed a supernatural act right before
- 25:21their eyes, part of the Red Sea? I mean, how many gods can do
- 25:26that? None except the one true and
- 25:29living God who creates the sea. And they, they walk through on
- 25:35dry land and they were able to see the salvation of the Lord.
- 25:37They were able to experience it supernaturally.
- 25:42You. You would think that that would
- 25:44take them through at least another month.
- 25:50But three days later comes another test.
- 25:53Just three days to show you how quickly we forget what God has
- 26:00done. Look what it says.
- 26:03Verse #22 Then Moses LED Israel from the Red Sea, and they went
- 26:09out into the wilderness of sure, and they went in three days in
- 26:14the wilderness, and found no water.
- 26:19This is test #2. When they came to the to Marah,
- 26:26they could not drink the waters for of Marah, for they were
- 26:31bitter. Therefore it was named Marah.
- 26:36So the people grumbled at Moses, saying, What shall we drink?
- 26:42Then he cried out to the Lord, what?
- 26:48What happened to Israel? How do they go from celebrating
- 26:52God to complaining about where they're at?
- 27:00How do they go from sheer delight to disgruntlement in
- 27:05three days? How do they go from magnifying
- 27:10the name of God to murmuring against God's chosen leader?
- 27:17How does that happen? You can ask yourself the same
- 27:21question. How can you come to church on
- 27:24Sunday morning, get in your car, and three minutes later start
- 27:31yelling at your kids and yelling at your wife and your wife
- 27:33yelling at you? How does that happen?
- 27:37How can that it possibly be? Excuse me, but it happens all
- 27:42the time. So here's Israel three days
- 27:49after watching a supernatural act of God begin to murmur.
- 27:54There was no water. They began to complain, and
- 27:59Moses cried to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree very
- 28:07important to the narrative, and he threw it to the waters.
- 28:11The waters became sweet there. He made for them a statue and
- 28:19regulation, and there he tested them.
- 28:25And he said, If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the
- 28:29Lord your God, and do what is right in his sight, and give ear
- 28:34to His commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put
- 28:40none of the diseases on you which I put on the Egyptians.
- 28:46For I, the Lord and your healer, Yavay Rafa, I am your healer.
- 29:05The Lord who forms us is the Lord who fights for us.
- 29:11The Lord who fights for us is the Lord who feeds us.
- 29:17The Lord who feeds us is the Lord who foresees all that will
- 29:22happen to us, and the Lord who foresees all that will happen to
- 29:28us is the Lord who will fulfill us as only He can.
- 29:38I am your healer. When we read that, we, we
- 29:46naturally go to physical healing as if God is going to heal me
- 29:53physically. But it's so much deeper than
- 29:57that. It's so much more important than
- 30:03understanding that which is in the temporal to that which is
- 30:07eternal, that which is physical as to that which is spiritual.
- 30:14Because sin has ravaged our souls, it's destroyed our souls
- 30:21and we are in need of a physician who heals the
- 30:28condition of our souls. Notice that it was a tree that
- 30:35was thrown into the waters because it would be the great I
- 30:39am who hung on a tree who would bring the ultimate healing to
- 30:45people's lives. Listen to what the Bible says in
- 30:51Isaiah chapter 1. Isaiah chapter 1 is as as God
- 30:58describes Israel verse 2. Listen O heavens and hero earth,
- 31:06for the Lord speaks. God is speaking.
- 31:12Sons I have reared and brought up, but they have revolted
- 31:19against me. Israel has revolted against me.
- 31:26And Ox knows its owner and a donkey its masters manager.
- 31:30But Israel does not know. My people do not understand.
- 31:37My people do not understand my identity.
- 31:41They don't know who I am. That's why the question, who do
- 31:45men say that I am? Who do you say that I am is so
- 31:48important. You got to get it right.
- 31:50It's not about accumulation of all kinds of knowledge about who
- 31:54God is. It's about knowing him in a
- 31:57personal sense, knowing him for who he really is.
- 31:59Because if Jesus is truly the Messiah, the Christ, the Son of
- 32:04the living God, He is all He claims to be, then He is yave
- 32:11Rafa in my life and yave Yire in my life, and yave Hassinu in my
- 32:17life, and yave Sabayov in my life and yave Rafi in my life.
- 32:21That's who he is, and I live in accordance to that.
- 32:25But Israel haven't experienced all that God did.
- 32:29Through all the wilderness wanderings and all the
- 32:31supernatural dealings that God did with Israel, they still did
- 32:35not know Him. That's why Christ asked the
- 32:40question who the men say that I am?
- 32:43Because you see, when Christ came, what did He do?
- 32:47He healed everybody. He practically banished all
- 32:51disease from the land of Israel. Every person blind, healed,
- 32:58paralyzed, healed, can't walk, healed.
- 33:05You got an issue, you're dead. Raise them up.
- 33:10God did everything, and yet they still did not know Him well.
- 33:15Some say you're Jeremiah, some say you're Elijah, John the
- 33:20Baptist, one of the prophets. Everybody's saying you're great,
- 33:23but nobody's saying you're God. In spite of all the miracles, in
- 33:30spite of all the supernatural acts that he performed.
- 33:34Feeding the 5000, feeding the 4000, walking on water.
- 33:40They still did not know the identity of the Christ child.
- 33:46How sad is that? But that was always Israel's
- 33:51problem. They did not understand their
- 33:57God. And yet he revealed himself over
- 34:00and over and over again. And so he says, alas, verse 4A,
- 34:09sinful nation, people weighed down with iniquity, offspring of
- 34:13evildoers, sons who act corruptly.
- 34:16They have abandoned the Lord, they have despised the Holy One
- 34:21of Israel, they have turned away from Him.
- 34:27This is why they were going into bondage, yet it would be 100
- 34:33years away. And so the Lord God would say to
- 34:37Israel those very familiar words in verse 18, Come now and let us
- 34:42reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins are a scarlet,
- 34:46they will be as white as snow. Though they be red like Crimson,
- 34:49they will be like wool. If you could send and obey, you
- 34:53will eat the best of the land. But if you refuse and rebel, you
- 34:58will be devoured by the sword. Truly, the mouth of the Lord has
- 35:04spoken. God says, I want to heal you.
- 35:08Listen to what He says in Jeremiah 30 verse #17 for I will
- 35:14restore you to health, and I will heal you of your wounds.
- 35:21Those are not physical wounds. Those are spiritual wounds.
- 35:25Jeremiah 3 verse #22 return you backsliding children and I will
- 35:32heal you're backsliding. Isaiah 30 verse #26 I will heal
- 35:41the stroke of your wounds. Why?
- 35:46Because he's Jaffe Rafa the Lord, your healer.
- 35:52Remember on that day in Nazareth in Luke chapter 4 when Christ
- 36:00would read from Isaiah chapter 61, because that was the reading
- 36:04of the day, and every prophet or every rabbi who came would say
- 36:10one day this will be fulfilled. But on this day Jesus says this
- 36:15has been fulfilled in your hearing.
- 36:18He says the Spirit of the Lord is upon me.
- 36:22So He's saying that He is the Messiah.
- 36:25Isaiah 11 verse #2 Isaiah chapter 42 verse #1 Isaiah 61
- 36:32verse #1 It's all about the Spirit of the Lord being upon
- 36:35the Messiah. So he says the Spirit of the
- 36:37Lord is upon me because He anointed me to preach the gospel
- 36:41to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim
- 36:44release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind,
- 36:48to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the
- 36:52favorable year of the Lord. And they closed the book, gave
- 36:56it to the attendant, sat down, and the eyes of all in the
- 36:59synagogue were fixed on him. And he began to say to them,
- 37:02Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.
- 37:11I am the one who has come to preach the gospel to the poor.
- 37:18I am the one who has come to proclaim release to the
- 37:23captives. I am the one who has come to
- 37:26provide sight for the blind. I am the one who has come to
- 37:33produce freedom to those who are oppressed.
- 37:38I am your healer. I am here.
- 37:43And when Christ came, remember everything that the Lord does in
- 37:47the physical realm is symbolic of what He does in the spiritual
- 37:51realm. Christ came to heal people that
- 37:55were that. That's what His credentials were
- 37:59all throughout the Old Testament.
- 38:00The Lord would come and do supernatural acts and He would
- 38:04heal those who were physically infirmed.
- 38:07Why? Because they would prove His
- 38:10messianic credentials, but He didn't come to heal them
- 38:15physically. He came to heal them
- 38:18spiritually, but they didn't want that.
- 38:23Remember in Matthew chapter 4, and we'll talk about this in the
- 38:26new year when we go to through Matthews 5-6 and seven, he, he
- 38:30heals everybody. All who are paralyzed, all who
- 38:32are diseased. He heals everybody.
- 38:35Throngs of people would follow him.
- 38:37Why? Because he's healing everybody.
- 38:41And so he sets him down on this mount called this sensational
- 38:46sermon by our Savior on the mount there on the northern
- 38:53slopes of the Sea of Galilee. He says, I want to give you true
- 38:59blessing. I know you think you're blessed
- 39:02because you're blind, but now you see.
- 39:06I know you think you're blessed because you were paralyzed, but
- 39:09now you're not. I know you think you're blessed
- 39:12because you were sick, but now you're well.
- 39:16But that's not true blessing, and it gives those great
- 39:20beatitudes. Blessed are the poor in spirit,
- 39:22for there's the Kingdom of heaven.
- 39:25Blessed are those who who mourn over their sins, for they and
- 39:28they only, they'll be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they
- 39:34will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and
- 39:37thirst for righteousness, for they will truly be satisfied.
- 39:42You see, you think you're satisfied because yesterday you
- 39:45were sick, but today you're better.
- 39:48Yesterday you were in bed, but now you're up.
- 39:51But I got news for you. You're still going to die.
- 39:56You might feel better today, but you're going to die tomorrow.
- 40:00Everybody's going to die. So you got to be spiritually
- 40:04made. Well, you have to be spiritually
- 40:06healed. And if not?
- 40:12Then you will die and live a Christ less eternity.
- 40:17How sad is that? And that's why in Luke's gospel,
- 40:22when John the Baptist said are you the expected 1, he said his
- 40:26disciples to ask him what did Christ do?
- 40:29He immediately healed everybody in the crowd.
- 40:34One fell swoop, boom, they're all healed.
- 40:38Now you go tell John what you just saw, because nobody but the
- 40:42Messiah can do that. You see Christ is Yahweh, Rafa
- 40:50the Lord your healer. So many times we we
- 41:01misunderstand the soul healing nature of our King.
- 41:11He's the only one who can free the captives.
- 41:17Every person born is born enslaved to Satan.
- 41:24Everybody. You're dead in your trespasses
- 41:26and sin. And so God grants man repentance
- 41:32that he might be freed from the the captivity of Satan sets the
- 41:38prisoner free, doesn't mean he goes to the jails and locks the
- 41:41doors. It means he goes and sets you
- 41:44free from Satan's oppression in your life and the captivity that
- 41:49Satan has on your soul. This tree, according to first
- 41:57Peter chapter 2 verse 24, Peter says this, He himself bore our
- 42:07sins in his body on the cross, literally on the tree.
- 42:13So we might die to sin and live to righteousness.
- 42:16For by his wounds you were healed.
- 42:22You healed spiritually. Yes, there will come a day where
- 42:26we are physically healed, we have glorified bodies, and we
- 42:29are perfectly healthy in eternity.
- 42:31That one day is going to come. That's the result of ultimate
- 42:36salvation. But in the meantime, we have
- 42:38been set free and healed in our souls so that we experience a
- 42:42true blessing of Yahweh Rafa, the God who heals.
- 42:52He gives us living water, waters that are fresh and clean and
- 42:59pure. In fact, listen to this the Book
- 43:03of Revelation chapter 22 verse #1 John says.
- 43:11Then he showed me a river of the water of life.
- 43:19Now my friends, you need to know there is no water in heaven.
- 43:23There is no more sea, there's no hydrological cycle, there's no
- 43:32rain. So what is the water of life?
- 43:38He says that he showed me a river of the water of life.
- 43:45What is that if there's no sea, if there's no rain, if there's
- 43:50no water in heaven, because there's no need to drink
- 43:53anything in a glorified state, what is the water of life?
- 44:00Chapter 22 verse #17 At the last invitation of our Lord, he says,
- 44:06the Spirit and the Bride say, Come, and let the one who hears
- 44:09come, and let the one who was thirsty come.
- 44:14Let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.
- 44:22The water of life is the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- 44:28Look at this, he says. They showed me a river of the
- 44:31water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God
- 44:36and of the Lamb. So whatever the water of life
- 44:39is, it's not the H2O like we know it.
- 44:41It's this salvation experience that comes and flows from the
- 44:47throne. It flows from God and the Lamb.
- 44:50And that's where salvation originates from.
- 44:53The God who is a God who delivers and rescues and saves.
- 44:57And it says in the middle of a street on either side of the
- 45:04river was the tree of life, the tree of life bearing twelve
- 45:13kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month.
- 45:18And the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
- 45:28What is that? There's no injury in heaven.
- 45:33There's no illness in heaven. There's no sickness in heaven.
- 45:39Why do the nation's need to be healed?
- 45:43Think about it, The tree of life, there's all kinds of fruit
- 45:50every month. There is no time in heaven.
- 45:54There's no clock in heaven. There's no calendar in heaven.
- 45:58What do you mean it bears fruit every month?
- 46:02It talks about the unending succession of the variety of
- 46:06enrichment that God gives to His people who have drank from the
- 46:10water of life because it provides healing therapia.
- 46:18Get our English word therapeutic.
- 46:21It's like taking vitamins. Vitamins don't heal you, but
- 46:25they keep you fresh and lively. You don't eat because you need
- 46:31to eat. You eat because of the enjoyment
- 46:35of the enrichment that God gives.
- 46:38It provides healing nourishment, life giving tree that provides
- 46:45health giving life forever. So the psalmist says these
- 46:54words, Psalm 124, verse #8 Our help is in the name of the Lord
- 47:08who made heaven and earth. Where does my help come from?
- 47:17From the name, the character, the attribute of the Lord.
- 47:25So the psalmist says in Psalm 147 verse #3 he heals the broken
- 47:33hearted and binds all their wounds.
- 47:41That's Yahweh. Rafa, listen to this Isaiah 12.
- 47:55God says, you will say on that day I will give thanks to you, O
- 47:58Lord, for all. Though you were angry with me,
- 48:02your anger is turned away and you comfort me.
- 48:06Build. God is my salvation.
- 48:08I will trust and not be afraid for the Lord.
- 48:11God is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation.
- 48:16Therefore you will joylessly draw water from the springs of
- 48:22salvation, and in that day you will say, give thanks to the
- 48:30Lord and call on His name. Make known as deeds among the
- 48:36peoples. Make them remember that His name
- 48:41is exalted. What name?
- 48:47Yave Rafa. Yave Rohi, Yave Sabayath, Yave
- 48:57Yuray, all those titles, all those descriptions make the name
- 49:09of the Lord. We haven't even covered Yave
- 49:15Mekadiskam, which is the Lord your sanctifier, or Yave
- 49:20Sidkanu, which is the Lord your righteousness, or Yahweh Shema,
- 49:30which speaks of the Lord who is there because he never leaves.
- 49:38The unending study of the person of praise goes on and on and on.
- 49:48We can never exhaust it. And my prayer for you is that
- 49:54you will be able to journey with joy the pathway of praise
- 49:59because you understand the person of praise.
- 50:05Let's pray. Father, we thank you for today
- 50:10and the opportunity you give us to spend time in Your Word.
- 50:13So much to cover and so little time to do it, yet we are
- 50:18blessed because of who You are. I pray that everyone in the room
- 50:24would know Christ as Lord and Savior.
- 50:29They would know you as their Deliverer.
- 50:33They would be able to answer effectively.
- 50:35Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God, and live
- 50:40accordingly. So Lord, as we depart this day,
- 50:45go before us and may we journey with joy the pathway you've
- 50:50called us to live, the pathway of praise in Jesus name, Amen.
