- 0:01Jonathan: Hello, Dork Squad.
- 0:02Jonathan: I'm Jonathan Cormur, and you're listening to Dorktales Storytime, the podcast for kids and their pop culture loving grown-ups.
- 0:14Theme Song: It's a beautiful day for a story, adventuring glory, new friends and old ones too.
- 0:21Theme Song: It's an excellent day to get swept away in a tale, so let us regale you
- 0:34Jonathan: Hello Redge? Can I come in? Redge? Redge?
- 0:35Redge: Apologies for the mess, Jonathan, but do you think you could assist me?
- 0:51Jonathan: What have you done with your hovel, Redge?
- 0:55Redge: I have to secure everything.
- 0:57Redge: All the furniture must be hammered down, every frame fastened, every chair anchored, every trinket clamped.
- 1:08Jonathan: Why are you doing that?
- 1:12Redge: Oh no.
- 1:13Redge: Here we go again.
- 1:17Jonathan: What's happening?
- 1:18Jonathan: What just happened?
- 1:27Redge: The Folktale Forest has been plagued with thund earths lately.
- 1:32Jonathan: Did you say thund earth?
- 1:35Redge: Yes.
- 1:36Jonathan: But what's a thund earth?
- 1:39Redge: A roll of thunder followed by an earthquake.
- 1:43Jonathan: Huh.
- 1:43Jonathan: Weird.
- 1:44Redge: We've averaged two to three every day for the last week.
- 1:48Redge: The Folktale Forest cannot catch a break.
- 1:52Jonathan: Have we ever had thund earths before?
- 1:55Redge: Maybe one or two over the years.
- 1:57Redge: But not this many at once.
- 2:00Redge: It's quite a unique phenomenon.
- 2:02Jonathan: Has the weather been different in the forest?
- 2:05Redge: No.
- 2:05Redge: Not a cloud in the sky.
- 2:08Jonathan: You're right.
- 2:08Jonathan: Blue skies today.
- 2:10Jonathan: But what's that over there?
- 2:13Redge: What?
- 2:14Jonathan: Come look out the window.
- 2:15Jonathan: There's something way out on the edge of the forest.
- 2:19Redge: You mean that distant gleaming tall thing?
- 2:23Jonathan: Yes, I don't remember seeing that in the Folktale Forest before.
- 2:27Redge: What could it be?
- 2:29Jonathan: Maybe it's related to the mysterious thund earths.
- 2:32Redge: Only one way to find out.
- 2:34Redge: Come along, Jonathan.
- 2:36Jonathan: Right behind you.
- 2:43Redge: Y ou okay?
- 2:44Jonathan: Yep.
- 2:45Jonathan: Here we go.
- 2:46Jonathan: It can't be much farther.
- 2:51Jonathan: Oh my eyes! Gosh, that's bright.
- 2:55Redge: Oh dear me.
- 2:57Redge: I wish I brought my sunglasses.
- 3:00Jonathan: The sun is reflecting off something just past those trees.
- 3:04Redge: I think it's in the meadow.
- 3:06Jonathan: Redge! It's a ladder.
- 3:09Redge: A ladder made of pure gold.
- 3:13Jonathan: And look who's at the bottom of the ladder.
- 3:15Redge: Jack!
- 3:17Jack: Redge! Jonathan! Good to see you.
- 3:20Jonathan: Jack?
- 3:21Jonathan: Did you build this ladder?
- 3:24Jack: Oh, uh yes, I have.
- 3:27Redge: But where does the ladder lead?
- 3:30Jack: I'm trying to reach the land of giants.
- 3:33Jonathan: Again?
- 3:35Redge: Jack, I thought you were done stealing from the giants.
- 3:39Jack: Oh I am.
- 3:39Jack: Trust me I am.
- 3:41Jack: I've been searching for magic beans to grow another beanstalk to the sky, but I've only ever found regular beans.
- 3:48Jack: Lots and lots of regular beans.
- 3:52Redge: Lots of regular beans, you say.
- 3:54Redge: Well, I have a recipe for three bean soup that everyone just gobbles down.
- 3:59Jonathan: Yeah, it's very good.
- 4:01Jack: Sounds delicious.
- 4:02Jack: But I wish I could find magic beans.
- 4:07Redge: So you built a golden ladder instead?
- 4:10Jack: When these thund earths started, I knew that Miss Tempy Tempest, the ogress, had finally lost her patience with me, and I had to do something fast.
- 4:20Jonathan: Remember when we learned what ogres and ogresses are, Redge?
- 4:24Redge: They are big giants.
- 4:26Jonathan: That's right.
- 4:28Redge: Is Miss Tempy one of the giants?
- 4:31Jack: Yep.
- 4:32Jonathan: And you think she's causing these thund earths?
- 4:35Jack: Yep.
- 4:36Redge: Well it must be.
- 4:38Jonathan: You're telling me Miss Tempy is so angry that she's stomping around in the sky
- 4:44Jack: and making the whole forest shake beneath her.
- 4:48Jonathan: Whoa.
- 4:49Jack: It's time to say I'm sorry and return the giant ogre's hen and golden harp.
- 4:57Jonathan: The hen that lays the golden eggs?
- 4:59Jack: Yes, it's time for her to go home.
- 5:02Jack: I'm sorry, little cluck cluck.
- 5:06Jack: It's the best thing for all of us.
- 5:08Redge: Maybe that would make the thund earths stop.
- 5:11Jack: Stealing from the giants was never the right thing to do, but I'm going to make things right.
- 5:17Jack: Wanna help me?
- 5:18Redge: I've never been to the land of the giants.
- 5:21Jonathan: Me either.
- 5:22Jack: We're in.
- 5:23Jack: Baka.
- 5:24Jack: Uh-oh.
- 5:28Jack: Brace yourselves.
- 5:30Redge: Oh dear.
- 5:31Jonathan: Here comes another thund earth.
- 5:37Jack: Everyone okay?
- 5:39Redge: Just a bit shaken.
- 5:41Jack: Okay, follow me.
- 5:42Jack: There's not a moment to lose.
- 5:44Redge: Let's climb, Jonathan.
- 5:46Redge: Before another thund earth begins.
- 5:49Jonathan: Right behind you.
- 5:50Jonathan: Oh boy.
- 5:54Jonathan: It's cold up here in the land of the giants.
- 5:57Redge: Look, Jonathan, I can touch the clouds.
- 6:01Jonathan: The winds are so strong.
- 6:03Jonathan: Brrrrrr and it's rushing through all these tall buildings.
- 6:09Redge: It's a good thing I never travel without my cashmere scarf.
- 6:14Jonathan: And in your favorite shade of green.
- 6:16Redge: I have a green cable knit scarf as well if you are feeling
- 6:20Jack: Hey, those aren't buildings.
- 6:22Jonathan: They're towers of gold.
- 6:25Redge: Piles of gold at every corner.
- 6:28Jonathan: And each piece of gold is as big as a small car.
- 6:32Jack: Shh that was close.
- 6:49Redge: A real life giant.
- 6:51Redge: Her foot was bigger than my whole hovel.
- 6:54Jonathan: I don't even know if her little toe could fit inside your kitchen.
- 6:57Jack: Let's not wait around to find out.
- 6:59Jack: It looks like she's left her house for an errand.
- 7:02Jack: We'll hurry in and drop off Cluck Cluck and the Harp and get back down to the Folktale Forest.
- 7:07Redge: Righto.
- 7:08Jonathan: Let's do it.
- 7:10Redge: Wait.
- 7:10Redge: Where's Cluck Cluck?
- 7:17Jack: Oh no, Cluck Cluck, come back.
- 7:21Redge: Where is she going?
- 7:22Jack: I don't know.
- 7:23Jack: I've never explored the rest of the land of the giants.
- 7:26Jonathan: Those towers of gold seem to go on forever.
- 7:29Redge: The mist of the clouds makes it hard to see.
- 7:32Redge: I hope Cluck Cluck doesn't get lost.
- 7:35Jack: We've got to get her back inside Miss Tempy's house and get out of here.
- 7:39Jack: Maybe if we start at this big pile of gold and walk 500 paces.
- 7:44Redge: Wait, look here.
- 7:45Jonathan: Cluck Cluck has left a trail.
- 7:48Jack: Of course, a trail of golden eggs.
- 7:51Redge: Follow those eggs.
- 8:10Jonathan: Do you see Cluck Cluck anywhere?
- 8:12Redge: No, and it's starting to get hard to tell which pieces of gold are Cluck Cluck's eggs.
- 8:18Jonathan: And which are just random pieces laying about.
- 8:20Redge: Jack, did you know they had so much gold in the land of the giants?
- 8:25Jack: No, it's everywhere.
- 8:27Jack: Heaps of it.
- 8:29Jonathan: Mountains of it.
- 8:30Redge: Rivers of gold.
- 8:36Jack: There's Cluck Cluck
- 8:38Redge: standing on that massive treasure chest.
- 8:41Jonathan: Quick before she runs away again
- 8:49Jack: Oh no.
- 8:51Redge: Miss Tempy is back from her errand.
- 8:54Jonathan: Hide
- 8:59Tempy Tempest: Huh?
- 8:59Tempy Tempest: Cluck Cluck?
- 9:00Tempy Tempest: Is that you?
- 9:02Tempy Tempest: No no be off with ya
- 9:08Jack: She doesn't want Cluck Cluck back?
- 9:11Tempy Tempest: I finally cleared the house of your mess.
- 9:13Tempy Tempest: Laying gold everywhere you went.
- 9:15Tempy Tempest: I won't have it again.
- 9:17Tempy Tempest: Go on, hop it.
- 9:19Redge: How strange.
- 9:21Jonathan: I thought the giants loved gold.
- 9:23Jack: Only one way to find out.
- 9:25Jack: Excuse me, Miss Tempy Tempest.
- 9:30Tempy Tempest: Jack, is that you?
- 9:33Jack: Yes, it's me.
- 9:34Jack: I've come back to return Cluck Cluck and your golden harp.
- 9:38Jack: I'm so sorry I took them.
- 9:40Jack: At the time, we needed the gold to survive, but I shouldn't have stolen it from you.
- 9:47Redge: How brave you are, Jack.
- 9:49Jonathan: Nice work.
- 9:51Tempy Tempest: Oh, but Jack, you did me a favor.
- 9:55Jack: A favor?
- 9:55Jack: What do you mean?
- 9:57Tempy Tempest: Uh our house was filled from wall to wall with gold.
- 10:02Tempy Tempest: What a mess.
- 10:04Tempy Tempest: Cluck cluck was leaving piles of eggs in every corner of every room.
- 10:09Tempy Tempest: I couldn't handle the clutter no more.
- 10:12Redge: I'm sorry, Miss Tempy, but are you saying you didn't like having all that gold?
- 10:20Tempy Tempest: Certainly not.
- 10:21Jonathan: But didn't it make you rich to have all that gold?
- 10:25Tempy Tempest: Rich?
- 10:25Tempy Tempest: Oh no, not on the land of giants.
- 10:29Tempy Tempest: Gold is everywhere.
- 10:31Tempy Tempest: Heaps, piles, mounds, and mountains of gold.
- 10:36Jack: And it's not worth anything?
- 10:39Tempy Tempest: Oh no.
- 10:40Tempy Tempest: Worthless, useless mess.
- 10:42Tempy Tempest: A nuisance, really.
- 10:44Redge: But how do you pay for things in the land of the giants?
- 10:48Tempy Tempest: We pay for things using sticks and wood.
- 10:52Jonathan: Sticks and wood?
- 10:54Tempy Tempest: It's quite cold up here in the clouds, so we always need to keep our fires going.
- 10:59Tempy Tempest: Having sticks and wood handy is very important.
- 11:03Jack: Wait a second.
- 11:04Jack: If you're happy that I took away the golden harp and cluck Cluck
- 11:10Redge: and you like having your house cleared of gold,
- 11:13Jonathan: then why are you causing all the thund earths in the Folktale Forest?
- 11:17Tempy Tempest: Thund earths?
- 11:19Jack: A roll of thunder followed by an earthquake.
- 11:21Jonathan: Redge had to fasten down all his furniture in his hovel.
- 11:25Redge: My trinkets and knick knacks have been under attack.
- 11:28Tempy Tempest: Oh my, I don't know.
- 11:31Jack: You weren't stomping around?
- 11:33Jonathan: Pounding your feet in anger?
- 11:35Redge: Shuffling your feet in frustration?
- 11:38Tempy Tempest: I've stomped, pounded and shuffled, but not because I was angry.
- 11:43Redge: Then what were you doing?
- 11:45Tempy Tempest: I've been learning to tap dance.
- 11:47Jonathan: Tap dance?
- 11:49Jack: Tap dance?
- 11:51Tempy Tempest: Yes, and it involves a lot of stomping, shuffling, pounding, and the occasional fa lap ball change.
- 11:58Redge: Oh you're telling me.
- 12:00Tempy Tempest: Stomp hop step fa lap stomp hop step fa lap stomp hop step fa lap
- 12:07Redge: Oh dear.
- 12:08Jonathan: Hold on!
- 12:09Jack: Wow, amazing.
- 12:11Jack: But this is what's making all of the Folktale Forest shake.
- 12:16Tempy Tempest: Oh crumbs.
- 12:18Tempy Tempest: Just when I was starting to get good.
- 12:20Jack: Well, I don't think you need to quit.
- 12:22Jonathan: There must be a solution.
- 12:24Redge: Wait, my scarf!
- 12:27Jonathan: Yes, it is a really nice scarf.
- 12:30Redge: No no no.
- 12:31Redge: I know just the thing to fix this, and it all starts with a scarf.
- 12:37Jack: Huh?
- 12:38Redge: Miss Tempy, do you have any knitwear?
- 12:41Redge: Okay.
- 12:49Redge: Now give it a try.
- 12:52Tempy Tempest: Stomp hop, step fa lap, stomp hop, step fa lap.
- 12:56Jonathan: Voila!
- 12:57Jack: Great work, Redge
- 13:00Tempy Tempest: Who knew?
- 13:01Tempy Tempest: A few of my scarves, a couple of blankets, and a pillow under a large piece of plywood would mute my stomps and shuffles.
- 13:10Jack: Genius!
- 13:11Redge: A good scarf has many uses.
- 13:14Tempy Tempest: Everyone together now.
- 13:17All: Stomp hop step fa lap.
- 13:19All: Stomp hop step fa lap.
- 13:21All: Cluck Cluck!
- 13:25Tempy Tempest: Not in the house, Cluck Cluck!
