- 0:33I'm so drunk. Welcome back to a hamster with a
- 0:42blunt penknife the Doctor Who commentary podcast.
- 0:46I am here with the superlative. Joe Ford again, he must still be
- 0:51very bored because now, become the longest commentary podcast,
- 0:57run that we've done, because I think this is the longest story.
- 1:00So, Anyway, I'm here for us to do episode 9 of the Daleks
- 1:05master plan. Our epic run through this huge
- 1:08Adventure, say, hello Joe. Hello Joe.
- 1:12This is now because I've done the invasion with Steven be from
- 1:16Newton who but that was only eight episodes.
- 1:19So now, there's a, this is officially the longest one.
- 1:23Very excited. We've got some exciting stuff to
- 1:26go. However, there's something I
- 1:27need to mention before we head into this episode.
- 1:32Well it's something that you just reminded me of a second
- 1:34ago, so don't think you're getting off the hook with this.
- 1:36All right. If one thinking armor, I feel
- 1:39forget you're just as bad as I heart, you are.
- 1:42There was a line in the last episode.
- 1:46Probably the most filthiest line in the entirety of dogs.
- 1:49Who now there are many double entendres and dogs have many,
- 1:52whatever sucked can. Blowed or copy many others.
- 1:56Now there are plenty. That's a big one.
- 1:58Jamie Yep, there's a whole load of them, they're all mentioning
- 2:02the discontinuity guide under a whole section about double
- 2:04entendre has it is you don't get much and I can't keep it up, you
- 2:08know, and things like that. But yes, this one in particular,
- 2:11shall I deliver it? I think you should know, you're
- 2:14the one who brought it up. We were talking about something
- 2:17else, we were completely distracted and we missed it.
- 2:19But of course, when the Daleks realized that the terrain IAM is
- 2:22fake in the previous episode mavic.
- 2:24Chen goes on a huge Ransom note? No, no it came from Uranus, I
- 2:29know it did. I would know nothing about Bob's
- 2:33or your rocket. Oh, I can just see Lucy's
- 2:39Brigadier GIF or phrases. Stop it video.
- 2:41Materializing on the Twitter feed and fill Nicholas
- 2:45Courtney's, gaze, his Steely gaze.
- 2:49At a great line though, isn't it?
- 2:51And, you know, you can trust Kevin Stony to deliver that with
- 2:55some sincerity indeed. Indeed, you can what is going to
- 3:00be anything quite as filthy in episode 9 of those master plan.
- 3:04Oh no. The reason is we're off to
- 3:05Egypt. We're going to see a load of
- 3:07Egyptian Follies. We do see a lot of scantily clad
- 3:10Egyptian chats. Yes, not many Egyptian, women.
- 3:13No sign of, don't see, Amanda Berry do we all decked up like
- 3:17Cleopatra? No Egyptian women, no afraid,
- 3:21not this time. Very good Miss.
- 3:24Well, shall we? Yes, let's do that.
- 3:27So, again, for anyone watching or listening along at home, you
- 3:30will know it is time to turn the page.
- 3:32When you hear the Chimes ring like this, could remember those
- 3:34old cassettes and Records. Records that went with kids
- 3:37books. Sorry, I just went off on
- 3:41complete tangent which had nothing to do with Doctor Who
- 3:43whatsoever but I used to have quite a few of those kind of
- 3:46story books when I was a kid. I think you'd be quite good as a
- 3:48reader of the talking dolls, you know.
- 3:52I'll blow possibly, what would be your novel of choice?
- 3:58Probably this one actually because I remember the
- 4:00novelization of the Dalek master plan because it was split into
- 4:03two and I got that. That's how I read the whole.
- 4:06That's how I read the whole story first before I even heard
- 4:09the soundtrack, or saw any of the Recons.
- 4:11Anything, I've got the target organizations and I thought they
- 4:14were really good. Made me really want to see this
- 4:16too. So I sort of fell in love with
- 4:17the story through that those Target novelizations and those
- 4:20two episodes that were on the Daleks the earliest date.
- 4:23I thought this was my favorite. Dalek story even before I'd seen
- 4:26any of the apart from those two episodes.
- 4:28You know what though, right, I'm going to say I will go to save
- 4:30so the second I promise is that John peel, right?
- 4:33Everyone was convinced, John peel was fantastic writer,
- 4:36because he brought out this Denis and Hebrew out power of
- 4:39the Daleks and evil of the Daleks right?
- 4:41Thanks. But they're great stories.
- 4:44They're great stories already written then.
- 4:46Okay, if there was this huge expectation when he was going to
- 4:50start delivering original novels for the BBC, 8th, doctor line,
- 4:54and out came a war of the Daleks and Legacy of the Daleks Oh boy.
- 4:59Oh boy did he go off a mountain there?
- 5:01I'm done. Oh yes I got War of the Daleks
- 5:05and I read it and I thought I wish I hadn't read that.
- 5:10That's a two or three hours of my life.
- 5:11I'll never get back terribly, let's wreck on everything and
- 5:16just make it all up. So yes it was weird but these
- 5:19are good. These were good anyway.
- 5:20Let's do it. Let's do it.
- 5:22So if anyone is watching or listening on at home, we're
- 5:26going to begin the episode in 32.
- 5:28Two one, go. So also like, in the last
- 5:32episode, we assume that's just a nice little set piece with the
- 5:36Monk and we're going to see him again.
- 5:38Oh wait, like we've had in the last couple episodes.
- 5:41Yes, that kind of just, it seems to be done.
- 5:43It's just, he New Year's Day bit of fun.
- 5:48Now he's gone. however, is that great really materialized that
- 5:53sort of Right. What do we end up with?
- 6:03I remember the Dalek time machine is just left.
- 6:06Kimberling pursuit of the doctor.
- 6:08Oh, okay. So we're definitely doing the
- 6:10chase. Now, we are doing the chase now.
- 6:13Yes. But with a better director, Do
- 6:19you reckon by? So I'm gonna I'm I'm still
- 6:21talking about the monk for a second.
- 6:23Do you think is an inevitability with a show that lasts long
- 6:28enough? The you're going to start having
- 6:30recurring villains? Like, I think Hartnell Sera has
- 6:33done pretty well to this point to just continually keep driving
- 6:37out. Original, I Baddies Yeah, I
- 6:43think after a while. You know think things will
- 6:49things will capture the imagination?
- 6:50A bit like the Daleks did, I mean that was a I was totally
- 6:53unexpected that they should take off so quickly go to they
- 6:56started in seconds. The very second story of Doctor
- 6:58Who's entire history and really captured the imagination of the
- 7:01viewers. So, I think inevitably, when a
- 7:04series goes on, there will be something that people decide,
- 7:07they like, or work much better than they expected or anything.
- 7:10But let's grab that and bring it back because people love that.
- 7:14And, of course, that also produces good publicity.
- 7:19And that's why I was hoping that afterwards.
- 7:21They must have just been at War. This is just a fantastic actor.
- 7:24They've got great chemistry. And we're desperate, we need to
- 7:27fill out this thing. Yeah, absolutely.
- 7:31Absolutely. And all this product, all the
- 7:33pre-production on the garlic master plan, all the stuff about
- 7:36getting the scripts or that was happening around the time.
- 7:38The time Mendler was being shot so he would have been around for
- 7:42Dennis Putin to say, would you come back if I wrote more Monk
- 7:46episodes, you know? So So we're off to ancient Egypt
- 7:52and in the I think is now I don't really really sequences
- 7:57very much and I do think they're a bit unnecessary and as you
- 7:59when we move into the moving pictures, there is some nice
- 8:02Direction, but some of the actions are Bill quote, in the
- 8:05next, however, I do really like the touch that.
- 8:09It's an unfinished pyramid but it's all set around and there's
- 8:14like all this slots or not scaffolding obviously but all
- 8:17this all building materials are Where I've got some, really?
- 8:20They didn't have to do that. No, it was it was a nice touch.
- 8:27I thing to do that kind of timing of An Unfinished pyramid
- 8:30and it gave the good reason for the Tardis to be taken into the
- 8:34pyramid and moved and for the Egyptians to still be hanging
- 8:37around it because there wouldn't be much reason for them to be
- 8:40still knocking around otherwise, but it's just a bit more
- 8:42visually interesting than like other a backdrop of a pyramid,
- 8:47you know, a cloth backdrop. Yeah, it is.
- 8:51It is firm is quite nice. Actually I think I like the way
- 8:54they as you say I like they've got it.
- 8:55Covered in construction materials Big Blocks of stone
- 8:57and wooden scaffolding and stuff like that going on.
- 9:01I think it's a nice it's a nice set, all the sets all the
- 9:04production stuff in master plan that actually I think really
- 9:07good for all the tension and problems that they had with it
- 9:10because they are various memos and things doing around saying
- 9:13what disaster it was being tensions were high and they were
- 9:17really making this kind of by the seat of their pants.
- 9:19Almost Cuz script for coming in late production was, but what
- 9:25they turned out you can tell from the, from the soundtracks
- 9:29and from the episodes that still exist actually came out really
- 9:32well? I think so.
- 9:33Well, I got three words to say to you is the same word over and
- 9:36over again. Canfield Canfield Canfield.
- 9:41Yeah. Canfield does a brilliant job
- 9:43directing. This stuff is entirely.
- 9:46I know, we've said this already in this commentary would
- 9:48probably sell it several time. His blah.
- 9:50It's a heroic turn. This imagine if this has been
- 9:53Richard, mine Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely.
- 9:59There was some read an extract from the handbook because
- 10:02somebody chief designer Barry Leroy.
- 10:05Chief designer of drama sent John Wiles a memo during
- 10:10production of Master Plan. Doctor Who serial V is proving a
- 10:15near disaster. I understand all possible to
- 10:20meet his dates. For this commitment of 12,
- 10:23consecutive episodes is made this virtually impossible.
- 10:26scripts or near complete scripts often available, but planning
- 10:29the design and shooting arrangements for these is
- 10:30entirely haphazard So, there you go.
- 10:35It says the give you this summary.
- 10:36Despite the fact that Syria will be, will almost certainly
- 10:38continue in this same way. In order.
- 10:40That you may make quite sure the following four episode Parts,
- 10:43allow proper planning with the designers and directors
- 10:45together, and you may fight wholeheartedly against any
- 10:49recurrence of more than six episodes.
- 10:51Being given to one director. And in order that you take some
- 10:54action to ensure the addition of the Christmas holiday period, to
- 10:56the problem does not lead to real disaster.
- 11:00It will literally making this by the seat of their pants, what
- 11:02they do. Absolutely.
- 11:06Absolutely. But brilliantly the result was
- 11:08as brilliant. I think still still my favorite
- 11:11Dalek story, probably my favorite Hartnell story and one
- 11:14of my favorite stories of the entire run of in.
- 11:16It sounds like their production team didn't have a lot of
- 11:18confidence in this but I don't think that shows in the in the
- 11:22finished product. It feels very confident this in
- 11:25a way that like the chase did not feel very confident at all,
- 11:30you know, certain parts of the chase.
- 11:32No, they didn't seem very calm. Confident.
- 11:35Charismatic, maybe but not often.
- 11:41That is the director and I think part of that is also the quality
- 11:43of the cast that they've got in these in these episodes.
- 11:46They're all brilliant. Yeah, and you know, there are
- 11:51like termination is a good writer, this great editing, this
- 11:56is its Pune for Al I think so. Yeah really good writer as well.
- 12:02So there's a fair bear Talent. Be imported to this.
- 12:07There is yeah Terry Nation gets a lot of bad press because he
- 12:09does tend to pull the same tropes out over and over again
- 12:12in his writing. But when you have to churn out
- 12:14writing, the pace that he did for his, for his job, you don't
- 12:18want to be Those things in your back pocket to just keep the
- 12:24volume up really. But I think you did it very well
- 12:26each time I think there was enough variation to keep it
- 12:29interesting Terry Nation. Right.
- 12:32He has his list of cliches. Yeah.
- 12:34In fact, Marvel has a drinking game, a Terry Nation drinking
- 12:38game, and it'll do part ones of Terry Nation episodes, and he's
- 12:41absolutely hammered come early Jon pertwee's.
- 12:46Time is absolutely hammered, but they're Clues.
- 12:49Shows because they work you know mmm and a Terry Nation part 1
- 12:54when it works well it's the best kind of part one you're ever
- 12:57going to get I think in terms of atmosphere.
- 13:00Yeah you know and well building. He was really good at well
- 13:06building and structuring the story as you say that he's part
- 13:10ones. We usually really, really good.
- 13:14It is the only trouble is conclusions conclusions
- 13:19sometimes Ruby off. But yeah, we didn't even bother
- 13:21it today like Arthur mistakes. Right arm out, I'm off.
- 13:26Congrats a question, there seems to be a lot of photographs on
- 13:31this. Reconstruction, are these
- 13:33pictures from the next episode? It was a lot of photographs
- 13:39taken during production of the episodes in Egypt, there's a lot
- 13:43of them available, some of them are this, is it that, you know,
- 13:46a couple of these are stills from The Next Episode.
- 13:48But there were a lot of production photographs taken
- 13:52during master plan in general. But particularly on the Egypt
- 13:54set. I'm not quite sure exactly why
- 13:56but there are a lot of them I know they doctor a lot of images
- 13:59and things on these reconstructions but they also
- 14:01shot a minute ago that was like a high angle shot looking down.
- 14:05On the Daleks and the Egyptians after.
- 14:07Yeah, you faked. That, that looks like a real
- 14:10photograph. Yeah, I think it was there's a
- 14:13there was quite a lot of photographs of the production of
- 14:17this epic, this little sequence in Egypt.
- 14:22It is some is this, The Voice work of Peter Hawkins in this
- 14:25episode? I still think he's the best
- 14:27olive oil. It's, you know, yeah, I Peter
- 14:29Hawkins is, is the Dalek, the Dalek voice in this episode.
- 14:33It's when they start introducing Zippy from Rainbow Vikings
- 14:36Gabby, problematic. I mean, some of them.
- 14:40Not all of them. Subtle false has acted.
- 14:44Heavy resistance is doesn't just like satirical Daleks.
- 14:49He does. Yes.
- 14:50But then he also does the emperor Dalek in evil of the
- 14:52Daleks and did brilliantly with that.
- 14:54What? Ray Skelton?
- 14:56Mmm. John Mason did the voice of the
- 15:03little girl in the chair and members of the Daleks.
- 15:06Oh yeah. Yeah.
- 15:09How fabulous is Hannah. Look at that hat.
- 15:13Yeah, it's he was he had that hat in the first Darla Tory did,
- 15:18he didn't wear it some reason. Eager in episode 1, he steps out
- 15:22of the TARDIS into the jungle carrying a Panama Hat, which he
- 15:24never once put on his head and then we don't see it again.
- 15:27So, but here he is wearing a hat.
- 15:30Give me a prop. I need a prop.
- 15:35Okay, that's a very unusual photograph there.
- 15:36That Egyptian, man, looking like his son-in himself a hartnell's
- 15:39feet. Yes.
- 15:43Do you reckon having a historical element to this
- 15:47story? Is like the finishing touch, you
- 15:50know, like you have the futuristic stuff.
- 15:52There's a few bits set in the modern day.
- 15:56We assume they are, do you know, the Christmas and the New Year
- 15:58stuff. And now we've got the histories
- 16:00of the we are doing the gamma of Doctor Who for out these 12
- 16:03episodes. Yeah, we I think we said in one
- 16:07of the earlier episodes, I think you said it was like a
- 16:10portmanteau of Doctor Who like bits of all bits of Doctor Who
- 16:14in one story. So you've got the futuristic
- 16:16stuff, you got the drama, the comedy, the historical, the
- 16:18present day, It's a bit like when did flux wasn't it?
- 16:24Like he did a little bit of everything as well.
- 16:27He did the opening episode were a lot of it was saying the
- 16:29present day. He did a load of stuff in the
- 16:31future and the Temple of at repulse and all of that.
- 16:34And then he went back into the past in business.
- 16:36If the Angels didn't they? Yeah.
- 16:39And Ward sontarans as well. Of course you have course.
- 16:42I wasn't even more appropriately.
- 16:44Yeah, like wearing sunglasses. Yeah, the monkeys wearing
- 16:49sunglasses which I think is hilarious.
- 16:51I love that little touch and it is that is that is genuine.
- 16:56It wasn't, it wasn't just like this.
- 17:03I've got a pair of sunglasses which of course.
- 17:05Is it an acronym stick for the ancient Egypt's?
- 17:08so, as a monk wandering around, but okay, and I'm going to be
- 17:12Wicked for a second. What is the point of these
- 17:16episodes? What is the point?
- 17:20Time I buy time. Bulking up the store and can
- 17:23make it longer and they're fun. And we've got water Randall as
- 17:27well as just popped up. Oh, hang on water.
- 17:29Randall, was somebody in the Aztecs?
- 17:31Wasn't he? He was turning it in the Aztecs.
- 17:34He was Ella Kia in the Crusade as well.
- 17:37So this is his third Hartnell Story, one each season, I think
- 17:40he's done and he pops up later as Slocum the technician in
- 17:45part, 1 of Inferno. Who First turns into a Green
- 17:50thing. Nothing else like Douglas
- 17:53Canfield thread running through those story or some of those
- 17:56stories. Yes, they do something very
- 18:00incorrect. This do tend to use the same
- 18:02people when they when they know they've got some actions, they
- 18:04can rely on. They do tend to bring them back
- 18:06and why not? And we'll leave you someone you
- 18:08can rely on definitely wine on. Absolutely.
- 18:13Now I'm nervous hasn't had a like A terrific amount of doing
- 18:19this has a like of his own back. He, he's with Sarah Kingdom, and
- 18:25the doctor, like, in the next story.
- 18:30Obviously, he kind of owns the show, doesn't he.
- 18:33He's holding her in the next story, whereas in this and I
- 18:37wouldn't say they're utilizing him amazingly.
- 18:40Well, yeah, that great scene when Katerina die that was I
- 18:43think he'd make that scene. He does.
- 18:48But yeah, the companions don't really get to do very much in
- 18:51this story except just kind of Be There.
- 18:54They Don't Really contribute much to the proceedings apart
- 18:58from getting captured and released and so on they don't
- 19:02really do anything else. Of course, in episode 11, we
- 19:07focus heavily on Steve and Sarah because the doctor disappears
- 19:11for whatever reason. But even then, all they really
- 19:15do. Do is wander around.
- 19:17They do a little bit. We'll talk about that when we
- 19:19get there, but yeah, they don't have a lot to do in this story
- 19:21but yeah, Peter Purvis carries the next one.
- 19:24It's really Steep and story of the massacre and it's brilliant
- 19:27in contrast. I think hard or get slowest to
- 19:30do in this life as a Showcase of car noise tear apart most
- 19:34brilliant in the next episode. He gets a wonderful moment.
- 19:37Don't worry steps out and it's voice booms amongst the
- 19:41pyramids, you know. Yeah.
- 19:45I was hungry Alex. So there we go.
- 19:48Can I use the Daleks by rotation to?
- 19:51This is again. This is where this is now
- 19:53expanding the Daleks by reputation because you know, up
- 19:57until now we've had no indication that anyone other
- 20:00than the doctor. In terms of the time-traveling
- 20:03knew who the Daleks were. Because, obviously, in the first
- 20:06story, they were just on skaro Etc.
- 20:09Then there was the Dalek invasion of Earth that happened
- 20:11now. They're Universal conquerors.
- 20:14People on Earth know who the Daleks are people in the outer
- 20:17galaxies. Name of the doctor, the monk
- 20:19knows who the Daleks are. So the Daleks now have this
- 20:21great Universal reputation. So it's kind of the story that
- 20:26makes the Daleks what they were from this point onwards, I think
- 20:29it feels like very slowly. It doesn't really happen for,
- 20:33you know, not a couple of areas or but the, the cliche clearly
- 20:38kind of the tenants of the show are falling into place.
- 20:41There is and I kind of accidentally as None of this is
- 20:45planned, this isn't a Michael straczynski Babylon, 5S K epic
- 20:52beings. You know, unfolding before us,
- 20:55don't get me wrong. If you watch the runner talk to
- 20:56him, but yeah, they're not laying the foundations for the
- 21:01time War here deliberately. You know it's that's yeah,
- 21:06that's a Time. Lord on the Daleks my God, he
- 21:08could say, this is like the first step.
- 21:12We could technically say the Daleks is the first step.
- 21:16Probably the chase. When they first started going
- 21:18after the doctor. They know who the doctor is.
- 21:20That would be, why did you say that boxer that they released?
- 21:25It was just any another excuse to bring out another box set of
- 21:28all stories that over 100 out on Blu-ray and it's like the road
- 21:31to the time, wore something like that.
- 21:33It's Genesis of the Daleks remembrance of the Daleks Yeah,
- 21:38I saw that box set and I just, I couldn't really see the point.
- 21:42I know there were some questions about why they include certain
- 21:44stories in there as well? Well, because they've already
- 21:47been remastered. That's why.
- 21:50Yeah, exactly. They didn't have to remaster.
- 21:52Anyway, put it on another disk and release it.
- 21:57However, we go. And so, we've got lovely
- 22:00Egyptian sets here with hieroglyphs fabulous, sarcophagi
- 22:10Yeah. Indeed you are the sets of
- 22:11really good. The set dressing is fantastic.
- 22:13I think for these episodes, one thing, you can rely on the BBC
- 22:17to do. It's a historical drama and
- 22:20Cetera with brilliant on the BBC.
- 22:22Yes, you know, in the big finish, the adventures of Lucy
- 22:28Miller so we're skipping Way Forward that I have lots of
- 22:31series. The Monk Is In Cahoots with the
- 22:34Daleks at the end of The Run of Lucy mirror Miller, right?
- 22:38And he is responsible for them sending a plague mistletoe, the
- 22:43Earth like so yeah. And it's really is played like
- 22:48is a kind of like Inadvertent thing that he did it to save his
- 22:51life that he gave, he told them, you know, how to wipe out
- 22:56everybody on the Earth but he's really portrayed as like a
- 22:59proper antihero in that, it's quite interesting and they don't
- 23:04quite do that here, do they? He is just a bit of a comic by
- 23:07food who's rubbing shoulders with the Daleks Yeah, he's only
- 23:11working with the Daleks because he doesn't really have an awful
- 23:14lot of choice. What was going on there with
- 23:16this Harvest? That is the monks Tardis and the
- 23:20doctor, this is the first time we've actually seen a tardis
- 23:23change shape because the doctor waiting to the monks Tardis and
- 23:25played around with it and it changed shape into various
- 23:27different things until it became a police box.
- 23:32Why is it doing that though? Well, that will become apparent
- 23:38in the next episode, okay? Okay.
- 23:42Oh dear, that look at that picture there, that's clearly
- 23:44been doctored. Yeah, well, there's only so much
- 23:48you can do. Yeah.
- 23:51That's always better job. Will you said you did five
- 23:53minutes worth? And, and you had enough it was
- 23:56like, yep. Yep.
- 23:58I tried years and years ago, I tried.
- 24:00And I thought, what the hell am I doing?
- 24:02Like Captain. Yeah I will see.
- 24:07They're having a fight. I was a bit confused having us.
- 24:11It's Steven and sorrow versus the Egyptians.
- 24:15Yes, I'm not sure how good it would be when and if we get this
- 24:18episode back I'm not quite sure what this episode this fight
- 24:21would come back. A lot of the cup of things that
- 24:26were in the handbook was that they were very satisfied with
- 24:29the extras who played the Egyptian soldiers in this in
- 24:32this cereal. So they eat, they left a lot of
- 24:34stuff. I'm done with them because they
- 24:36just didn't come across very well.
- 24:38You know, that's a good point. You know.
- 24:39You so episodes. Coming back.
- 24:41All right, here's a question for you.
- 24:44It an episode that's missing with a good reputation that you
- 24:48think would be tarnished by his return and an episode with a
- 24:52less than Stellar reputation. That whose reputation would
- 24:55improve by returning. And don't say the web of fear in
- 24:58enemy of the world, that's Julian.
- 25:01That's cheating because we've already seen those and we know
- 25:03what my Arts are. Those is up already. a good
- 25:09episode, that would be That tarnished by its return.
- 25:18Well sorry to say possibly some of these.
- 25:20I don't know how well some of these episodes would hold up.
- 25:23Once we actually see them especially the final episode
- 25:26with the time Destructor and what have you?
- 25:30I have you know we have we have great ideas in our heads of what
- 25:33it would look like and got descriptions but it might well
- 25:35fall a bit flat on the actual viewing in terms of an episode
- 25:40with a poor reputation which might be which might benefit
- 25:43from coming back. I think I think the sap Is would
- 25:47benefit enormously if it came back because it tends to be
- 25:50rather overlooked. But I think it's a lovely little
- 25:52story. I really like the Savages and
- 25:54possibly even the space pirates. I can definitely the space
- 25:57tires. And I think the Smugglers with
- 25:59all that location work, I think the Smugglers would have a
- 26:02better reputation. I don't think it's amazing, but
- 26:04I think if you can actually see it, looks like a quite a
- 26:08Sumptuous production. That's possible and it's also
- 26:12possibly true of the Highlanders because I remember I've always
- 26:15viewed the smugglers in the Highlanders in particular.
- 26:17I've always use entirely forgettable because no matter
- 26:19how many times I watch them, I can barely remember the plot
- 26:23either of them don't like that with a Highland it but it's
- 26:26really weird because when I'm listening to it, I'm like this
- 26:30is really rather good. Like, this is a terrible.
- 26:32This is it's got some nice bits of Dramas are nice bits of
- 26:36comedies. Good acting, I bet the
- 26:38production value is pretty good. You can see from some of the
- 26:40pictures And yet you ask me a week later and I'll say, I have
- 26:44everything. I think the doctors put an
- 26:46accent, that's about it. Yeah, it's weird but I'd but
- 26:52maybe hey, Doc did one of his happy times and places podcasts
- 26:56on the Highlanders, which I listen to and he was pointing
- 27:00out lots of things like this. Dammit ography was probably very
- 27:02good because you can see the Telly snaps.
- 27:04They must have been on location for this.
- 27:05There's There's all sorts of interesting shops in the Telly
- 27:14snaps and there's acting and performances and things
- 27:18happening. And, you know, so that made me
- 27:20sort of reappraise it and think actually it might be it might be
- 27:24better if we could see it might be better regarded.
- 27:28There's still a lot wrong with it and it's still not fabulous
- 27:30story. I don't think but it's recovery.
- 27:33Would benefit his reputation enormously.
- 27:35I wonder if something like Fury from the deep.
- 27:37You know, wouldn't go down. People's estimation.
- 27:40If it was by under, I think it probably looks great.
- 27:44But it's like a bit repetitive. Oh yeah I might be about to be
- 27:51crucified for saying this but I don't actually rate Fury from
- 27:54the deep Batman. I'm really why?
- 27:58It just doesn't hold my attention.
- 28:01It's got some good stuff in it. You know the sequence with
- 28:05Okonkwo overpowering Maggie Harris, that's brilliant.
- 28:08The way that's been shot is fabulous.
- 28:11It's got some good stuff in it. I like the way that Victoria's
- 28:14departure is sewn through out and actually emphasize made a
- 28:17big part of the final episode. It's not just at the end she
- 28:20goes. By the way, I'm staying like so
- 28:22many other companions do. There's a lot of good stuff in
- 28:26it. Victor Madden is Fabulous As
- 28:28wrong as berserk Robson and what have you so you know there's not
- 28:31a good but as a story I watch it and I genuinely just doesn't
- 28:36hold my attention. You know what story does that
- 28:39for me? Is that an even with the
- 28:41animation are still think it's so fucking boring.
- 28:45The Faceless ones bores me stiff.
- 28:49Yep. I'm not a huge fan of the
- 28:50faceless ones either, again, interesting ideas, but It just
- 28:56no Pace. It should be fun.
- 28:58Just have no place. It should be finished before
- 29:00episode. Oh I got on circuit because the
- 29:03pictures are moving again for the moving now.
- 29:06So we just spliced in the existing bit from part. 10 of
- 29:08the end of the part 9 Recon. So yeah, I chase.
- 29:11My heart started racing them when last could see moving
- 29:14pictures. Yeah. now look is this not a bit
- 29:20like some working was supposed to be the deadliest you know,
- 29:24space assassin in the future and now she's scared of hand coming
- 29:29out of a sarcophagus To be fair I don't that was covered in her
- 29:35training, very good and you know what, right?
- 29:38I am going to talk about now but the resolution to that is
- 29:42fucking hilarious. Yes.
- 29:46So many Doctor Who Cliffhangers. Yes, II God kill them now and
- 29:50then next episode is like no weight or something like that.
- 29:53You know some Dreadful Rosa whereas this it's really funny
- 29:57because I wasn't the doctor put him in there yet the doctor put
- 30:00in In there. What?
- 30:03It's one of the better kind of Cliffhangers that actually
- 30:06follows logically from the plot and isn't just chucked in there
- 30:09because all we need a cliffhanger, it's a violent,
- 30:12Barker, you know, hard or sometimes always need just, you
- 30:15know, he was trained by the mountain molar of Montana.
- 30:19He was, he was indeed, and he was so constantly outwitting,
- 30:22the opposition. He tends to forget the Delights
- 30:24of the gentle art of fisticuffs. He stumbled through in the
- 30:28Romans. Omani.
- 30:30Toxic. Man of brilliant.
- 30:32Oh, sorry, he tosses out that window.
- 30:34Brilliantly, I'll tell you, he doesn't, he doesn't Vicki.
- 30:38Chases him out of the window. The doctor doesn't throw him out
- 30:40the window, because he's chasing him with a big bars over ahead.
- 30:43Abby dust from about a bit, doesn't he?
- 30:45He knocks him about a bit. Certainly would be cute if you
- 30:48want to fight.
