Transcript
- 0:00Good morning family.
- 0:15All right, please turn to Romans Hebrews five.
- 0:22Anyway, let's pray and let's get into Hebrews five.
- 0:26Father, I want to thank you so much for your goodness and faithfulness.
- 0:29Thank you for just your kindness as you have provided for us, a high priest who can once for all
- 0:42intercede and advocate for your people, who can once for all bring in the sacrifice.
- 0:51And that very high priest is the sacrifice also.
- 0:55What an amazing, perfect plan, all the intimate details of salvation accomplished in and through Christ.
- 1:04Lord, we praise you and thank you that he has fulfilled all the obligation as high priest for your glory.
- 1:10In Jesus name, amen.
- 1:12So that's one of the things I'm going to that we really need to start paying attention to when we're dealing with the issue of high priest.
- 1:18There's a lot here.
- 1:20I'll be honest with you.
- 1:21I was going through this, I'm like, how do we explain the whole Melchizedek?
- 1:26Because it seems really confusing.
- 1:28I think it's one of the reasons why Hebrews is probably one of the least preached on.
- 1:34That's bad English.
- 1:35I know.
- 1:36I'm not an English major.
- 1:37I'm a preacher.
- 1:38So books that I think I've watched.
- 1:45I look for several and the one that pops up the most when I'm listening to others preach on and talk about Hebrews is John Piper.
- 1:56But what I found is there's these two ideas when it comes to Christ, the high priest.
- 2:04And to be honest with you, both of them are right.
- 2:07They're not wrong.
- 2:09But I think there's something missing.
- 2:11We're missing something between these two thoughts.
- 2:15And I think when we take the context of all of the letter to the Hebrews and we really start to dig down and get into the root and the crux of what the writer is saying,
- 2:31we end up finding something so remarkable that if we don't really pay attention, we could miss it.
- 2:38And as we go through this message, I think you're going to hear it and see it.
- 2:42So we're going to start reading through Hebrews chapter five, verse one through four.
- 2:46I'm going to go right into five and six.
- 2:48And then we'll start expounding on the rest of the scripture to verse eight, which is I was really hoping, but it's not going to happen.
- 2:57I wanted to get to ten, but it's not going to.
- 2:59Anyway, so verse one, for every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.
- 3:15He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward since he himself is beset with weakness.
- 3:23Because of this, he is obligated to offer sacrifice for his own sins, just as he does for those of the people.
- 3:33And no one takes this honor for himself, but only when called by God, just as Aaron was.
- 3:42So also, Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him, You are my son.
- 3:53Today I've begotten you, as he also as he says, also in another place, you are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.
- 4:05Now, that's verse five and six.
- 4:07I'm going to get into seven and eight in a minute, but I want us to kind of think through this process of what does this high priest thing look like?
- 4:16Why is it necessary?
- 4:18So when you're looking at the plan of salvation, in order for salvation to be accomplished, every detail that is required for salvation must be met.
- 4:29That's the first thing I want us to understand when we're looking at Hebrews, right?
- 4:33There has to be a message.
- 4:35If there's a message, there must be a messenger.
- 4:37If there's a messenger, there must be a prophet, a prophet who brings a message and leads a people.
- 4:44If there is a prophet who brings a message and leads a people, then there must be someone who can go in on behalf of the people to deal with the sin of the people, which is the high priest.
- 4:54That is the structure.
- 4:55So far, what we're seeing is salvation requires these four things so far.
- 5:00OK, the message, the messenger, the prophet and the priest.
- 5:05Christ is all of those things.
- 5:08Now, that being said, all of this is accomplished through the gospel.
- 5:15Now, principle number one, God appoints the high priest, not men.
- 5:22God appoints the high priest, not men.
- 5:24Christ was appointed by the Father once for all, just as men who were chosen and appointed to be high priest for a time.
- 5:33What I mean by this is every high priest that has been appointed, called by God, have been there for a period of time.
- 5:42But Christ is forever.
- 5:45He is a high priest forever.
- 5:48That's verse six.
- 5:49You are a priest forever.
- 5:51No more high priests, not necessary.
- 5:56And trust me, people will be trying to create priests.
- 6:00Why?
- 6:01Because they don't want the priest that was given.
- 6:03And it's necessary for this particular type of priest to be present.
- 6:08And I'll show you this in a minute.
- 6:10So verse five says, so also Christ did not exalt.
- 6:15This word exalt means dox azo.
- 6:18The word dox azo means to cause the dignity or worth of a person or a thing to become acknowledged.
- 6:25In other words, that the exaltation of Christ is not something that he demanded.
- 6:32It's not something that he had caused.
- 6:37The Father has to do that.
- 6:39And so he, Christ, did not cause the dignity or worth of himself to become acknowledged.
- 6:48God the Father says that.
- 6:50And if you have any questions about that, do you remember when Jesus got baptized?
- 6:54He says, this is my son in who I'm well pleased.
- 6:58Okay?
- 6:59This adds, this is in addition to understanding, verse five.
- 7:03And you'll see that in a minute.
- 7:04Now, if Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, then obviously God the Father had appointed him.
- 7:15Right?
- 7:16Now, here's the interesting part.
- 7:17This word, this term, this phrase, but was appointed by him is not in the original language.
- 7:25It's implied.
- 7:27That doesn't mean it's wrong.
- 7:29Okay?
- 7:30That's important.
- 7:32Now, this idea of appointment is seen in verse one.
- 7:37For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God.
- 7:46So it is a proper statement and rightly so to be implied, but was appointed by him.
- 7:54The original kind of sounds like this.
- 7:57So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made high priest, but who said to him, you are my son, today I've begotten you.
- 8:10Now, why would God the Father inspire this man to write this statement?
- 8:20Why would he go from priesthood to sonship?
- 8:25Here's the idea.
- 8:27Because only God can be the final forever high priest.
- 8:34There can only be one.
- 8:37He had to be the high priest.
- 8:39And the only way he was going to be the high priest is he, the son, must be the high priest.
- 8:45There has to be a final high priest.
- 8:48And I think that's one of the reasons why he's mentioned here.
- 8:51You are my son, today I've begotten you.
- 8:54I have made you high priest.
- 8:58My son is high priest.
- 9:01Now, what's interesting, because when you understand verse six concerning Melchizedek,
- 9:08then you understand why the son is high priest.
- 9:13Okay?
- 9:14Now, the son, today I've begotten.
- 9:16So now we know who the high priest is, Christ, we know that.
- 9:20And we know who appointed or who has chosen and sent the high priest, the Father.
- 9:27That's why this is here.
- 9:28The Father has appointed a high priest, not men.
- 9:33He has set Christ as the final forever high priest for all mankind.
- 9:39Now, verse six says this.
- 9:43Who said to him, you are my son, today I've begotten you,
- 9:46as he says also in another place, you are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.
- 9:56What's interesting is that's Psalm 104, if I believe correctly.
- 10:00Psalm 104 is a psalm by David.
- 10:03And David states this, that this priest will be a forever priest.
- 10:09And this priest comes from the order of Melchizedek.
- 10:13And I'm not going to expound on this right now because chapter seven does.
- 10:17And if I do that, then I might as well not preach chapter seven.
- 10:21So we're not going to go there.
- 10:22I'm going to make you sit in and look back and go, okay,
- 10:28I'm really excited about the next part of this.
- 10:32So your own way, it's okay.
- 10:35These two Old Testament verses are used so you will know who has doxadzo,
- 10:41who caused the dignity or worth of Christ to become acknowledged.
- 10:48That's why these are here.
- 10:50In other words, God has appointed the son.
- 10:53He has begotten the son who has been given all authority.
- 10:57You are my son today, I've begotten you.
- 10:59That idea is there, all authority has been given to him.
- 11:02We will clarify that in John 17.
- 11:05Okay, so and second that he comes after the order of Melchizedek,
- 11:12the priest of the most high God.
- 11:15Okay, that's all I'm giving you on that.
- 11:18Now this clarifies because this is crucial to understand
- 11:22because the obligation of a priest is to offer sacrifice for the people.
- 11:30The salvation is not possible without the high priest offering the sacrifice.
- 11:37Now what's amazing is Christ is the sacrifice, the offering, and he's the priest.
- 11:45It's a complete salvation.
- 11:47I want you to think about that.
- 11:50Now how in the world can we have any part of that?
- 11:53It's an amazing thought.
- 11:55So the high priest, second principle,
- 11:58the high priest serves the will of the Father, not his own.
- 12:02The high priest serves the will of the Father, not his own.
- 12:06Father, this is what it says, saying, Father, if you are willing,
- 12:10remove this cup from me, nevertheless, not my will, but yours be done.
- 12:15That's Luke 22, 42.
- 12:18The clarification of this is in verse 7.
- 12:21In the days of flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications
- 12:27to loud cries and tears to him who was able to save him from death.
- 12:34And he was heard because of his reverence.
- 12:38Now why is this an important thing?
- 12:41Because here's where the two ideas come from.
- 12:45One of the ideas concerning Christ is the days of his flesh.
- 12:49The days meaning all the days of his life.
- 12:52Jesus went before the Father on behalf of the people and behalf of himself,
- 12:58and he offered up prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears.
- 13:02I can see that.
- 13:03That's not an unreasonable thought that throughout all of Jesus' ministry,
- 13:09when he would go after he would serve and care for the people
- 13:13and see the suffering of their sin, after he resurrects Lazarus from the dead,
- 13:18and he's heartbroken and he's angry at the reality of the condition of sin
- 13:22upon the human life where Jesus would go and pray.
- 13:27But I don't think that's what this means.
- 13:32And the reason why I don't think that's what this means is because it says,
- 13:36in the days of his flesh, I believe, means before his resurrection.
- 13:43So in the days before his resurrection, Jesus offered up prayers and supplication
- 13:51with loud cries and tears to him who was able to save him from death
- 13:56and was heard because of his reverence.
- 13:59Now, there's a particular time when all of this stuff happens,
- 14:04but before we get there, I need to clarify a couple words here.
- 14:07The first word is the word save, sozo.
- 14:11So for us, it's to save from punishment, from God's wrath.
- 14:15It's to save from torment, right?
- 14:19But this word sozo for Christ is that God the Father doesn't have to save the Son from his wrath.
- 14:26Jesus is the object of God's wrath for us.
- 14:30It's really the issue of to save a suffering one, that Christ suffered for you.
- 14:39And we know that because it states that he became like us in all things
- 14:47so that he can offer the sacrifice.
- 14:51He understands our pain and our struggles in chapter four.
- 14:54He knows what we go through.
- 14:56And as a result of our sin, we suffer in death.
- 15:03And so Christ suffering in death.
- 15:06Death is a suffering.
- 15:09It's a suffering.
- 15:11Death is not something that God had intended from the beginning.
- 15:15It's the consequence of sin.
- 15:17So it is a suffering.
- 15:18And so Christ suffered in death.
- 15:23And God saves him from the suffering of death.
- 15:26God the Father saves him.
- 15:28He brings him out of suffering.
- 15:32How do we know that?
- 15:34Because it says here, he who is able to save him from death,
- 15:40how do we know that Jesus was saved from death?
- 15:44Is he still in the grave?
- 15:46He's resurrected.
- 15:48So he's not in death anymore.
- 15:51He's the life giver.
- 15:53And so if he is able to save him from death, then here is why he saves him from death.
- 16:01He was heard because of his reverence.
- 16:04For who?
- 16:05For the Father.
- 16:06And so here we go.
- 16:07You ready?
- 16:08This word death means thanatos.
- 16:11Thanatos means death comprising all the miseries arising from sin.
- 16:19Second Corinthians 521, turn there.
- 16:22How do we know that Jesus understands the miseries, all the miseries that comprise from sin?
- 16:30Second Corinthians 5.
- 16:32If you will turn there.
- 16:36Second Corinthians 521 says, for our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
- 16:48So does Christ understand the reality of suffering because of sin?
- 16:54Absolutely.
- 16:56He became sin for us.
- 17:00And yet he did not sin.
- 17:02That's crazy.
- 17:04In other words, he became the object of God's wrath.
- 17:07He became the reason and the focus of God's punishing or judgment upon mankind.
- 17:16For his people.
- 17:18And so here's the amazing part.
- 17:20Turn to John 17.
- 17:22Turn to John 17.
- 17:24In John 17, we see something very important.
- 17:31And we start to understand verse 7.
- 17:34That in the days before his resurrection, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears.
- 17:45There's no doubt that Jesus offered up prayers for his people.
- 17:50And continually.
- 17:52Chapter 17 is what a high priest would do before he would go in to offer a sacrifice.
- 18:02He would go before the father, go before God, before Yahweh, and offer prayers and supplications and loud cries and tears.
- 18:12Do you know who else did that?
- 18:15Daily?
- 18:17Job.
- 18:20Job is a picture of Christ going before the God of all creation.
- 18:26Offering prayers for his, prayers and supplications for his children.
- 18:33And so did Jesus.
- 18:35And chapter 17 is proof of this.
- 18:37Chapter 17 is the high priestly prayer.
- 18:41This is the Lord's prayer.
- 18:43And what most people don't understand is this is the night he's going to be arrested.
- 18:49This is right before he's going to be arrested as a matter of fact.
- 18:53Jesus, as he goes out and he walks with his disciples, he looks up and he says in chapter 17, verse 1,
- 19:00when Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven and said,
- 19:04Father, the hour has come.
- 19:07Glorify your son that the son may glorify you since you have given him authority over all flesh
- 19:19to give eternal life to all whom you have given him.
- 19:25The father has given Christ all flesh whom he will redeem.
- 19:34Not man's decision.
- 19:36God's work.
- 19:40And this tells you there's a limit to that flesh.
- 19:43And that's a hard thing.
- 19:46But the reality is Jesus goes before the father, offers up prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears.
- 19:55And because he says glorify your son that the son may glorify you, God honors and hears that prayer.
- 20:04And so the high priest has entered the holy place.
- 20:10Now, if we keep reading verse 3, he says this, and this is eternal life.
- 20:18I want you to hear this.
- 20:20Eternal life is not your prayer.
- 20:24Eternal life is this.
- 20:27This is eternal life.
- 20:30This is how you know who is born again and who is not.
- 20:34Eternal life that they may know you, Father, the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
- 20:46That is eternal life.
- 20:47Eternal life is Christ.
- 20:49Eternal life is to know the Father through Christ, to know Yahweh Elohim.
- 20:56That is eternal life.
- 20:59It's not heaven.
- 21:01He is.
- 21:03It's not your house on a hill.
- 21:05He is.
- 21:07It's not the room of your mansion.
- 21:09He is.
- 21:10It's not the reward you get.
- 21:12He is eternal life.
- 21:14Him.
- 21:15He is the reward.
- 21:16He is all you will need and want.
- 21:20Now, understanding that, go to verse 25.
- 21:26This clarifies a little bit more.
- 21:27I encourage you read this prayer because this prayer is for you.
- 21:32Not only does he pray for his disciples, he also prays for his people for future.
- 21:39He prays for you here.
- 21:41Okay?
- 21:42Verse 25 says this.
- 21:44Oh, righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me.
- 21:58Who are these?
- 22:00The world?
- 22:01No.
- 22:02His people.
- 22:03His disciples.
- 22:04I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known.
- 22:12Do you know why you know the name of Yahweh?
- 22:15Why you know the name of the living God?
- 22:17Why you know the name of the Savior?
- 22:20Because Christ has brought that name to you.
- 22:22The Holy Spirit has come into your life and so revealed to you the glory of the name of God.
- 22:29And your response is to, Lord, you are my God and Savior.
- 22:35That's it.
- 22:36He's done that.
- 22:38Now, let's keep reading, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them and I in them.
- 22:46So when it says that he was heard because of his reverence for the Father, that's for the Father is an italics.
- 22:56That's my stating that based upon the context here.
- 23:00That's why the high priest was heard.
- 23:04A high priest goes before God and offers prayers and supplications for you.
- 23:09Why?
- 23:10Because when you read Hebrews 5, Hebrews 5 verse 1, for every high priest is chosen from among men and is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins, then you know.
- 23:26And you also know because in verse 2 it says he can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward since he himself is beset with weakness.
- 23:34He can and is obligated to come before the Father on your behalf and pray for you.
- 23:41But in order for a priest to be able to pray for you, he has to understand his condition before the Father.
- 23:48And Jesus understood that.
- 23:51Yet without sin.
- 23:54What an amazing thing.
- 23:57He can fulfill every obligation of the high priest.
- 24:02Now, here's the interesting part.
- 24:05You got this beautiful prayer in John 17 and it doesn't end there because every every high priest, this is what it says.
- 24:13Because of this, verse 3 in Hebrews chapter 5 verse 3, because of this he is obligated to offer sacrifices for his own sins just as he did for those of the people.
- 24:25How did Jesus fulfill that?
- 24:28Turn to Luke 22.
- 24:30I'm glad you asked.
- 24:33Glad you asked.
- 24:35Luke 22.
- 24:36So understand, chapter 17.
- 24:41Oh, I can get there.
- 24:43Chapter 17 is Christ praying on behalf and bringing supplication on behalf of his people.
- 24:50In Luke 22, Christ prays for himself.
- 24:55Now watch.
- 24:57So not only does the priest go on behalf of the people, but he goes on behalf of himself.
- 25:03And if he who knew no sin became sin for us, he had to go to the Father and beseech him.
- 25:12And he did.
- 25:13Isn't that amazing?
- 25:15There's a reason why it's written here.
- 25:17There's a reason why that verse is written here.
- 25:22For us to understand why the high priest must do it.
- 25:26The complete requirement of the high priest's work is here.
- 25:34The whole thing.
- 25:36Now, chapter 17, Jesus is praying.
- 25:39He's done praying.
- 25:41And the scripture says in chapter 18 that he goes to the Garden of Gethsemane.
- 25:46And when he gets to the Garden of Gethsemane, some short time after that, Judas shows up and arrests him.
- 25:53But what happened, there's a part in John 17 to 18 that's missing.
- 25:59You know what's missing?
- 26:01The high priest offering sin for himself.
- 26:06Offering a sacrifice for himself.
- 26:08And he offers himself for himself.
- 26:10That's the amazing part.
- 26:12And this is here.
- 26:14Chapter 22, verse 39.
- 26:17So he just got done praying.
- 26:19He walked into the Garden of Gethsemane.
- 26:21He says to his disciples, verse 39, and he came out and went as was his custom to the Mount of Olives.
- 26:30And the disciples followed him.
- 26:33And when he came to that place, he said to them, pray that you may not enter into temptation.
- 26:39Isn't that interesting?
- 26:42So Judas knew that he was going to be there because this was the custom of what Jesus would do on a regular basis.
- 26:49And so they go and he's like, please pray that you don't enter into temptation.
- 26:53I mean, I just got done praying for you.
- 26:55I prayed that the enemy would not come and kill you and take you.
- 27:00I prayed that you would be glorified and grow.
- 27:04And he's used beautiful prayer.
- 27:07Verse 40.
- 27:09And when he came to the place, he said to them, pray that you would not enter into temptation.
- 27:14And he withdrew from them about a stone throw away and knelt down and prayed, saying, Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me.
- 27:26Nevertheless, not my will, but yours be done.
- 27:33There he is.
- 27:35Praying for himself, offering prayers and supplication for himself.
- 27:40Exactly what a high priest should do.
- 27:44He understands you.
- 27:46That's the point.
- 27:48The point is the high priest is the representative of you.
- 27:52And if Christ could not represent you and understand you, how would he be able to go in and offer a sacrifice from a person he does not understand?
- 28:05Remember, he was God.
- 28:06He is God without sin.
- 28:09He didn't know.
- 28:10He's never experienced the reality of death.
- 28:15But Christ died.
- 28:20He is hypostatic union, truly man, truly God.
- 28:25He had to die.
- 28:27In order to die, you have to understand sin.
- 28:29You have to understand what sin does to the human to the human life.
- 28:33Suffering.
- 28:35Death.
- 28:37And so he is a perfect high priest.
- 28:43Now, last principle, because I can't go into verse nine.
- 28:48Christ is our high priest, our advocate and our sacrifice.
- 28:53For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weakness, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
- 29:05Hebrews 415, there it is.
- 29:07Exactly what I just said to you.
- 29:09Isn't the context of God's word so beautiful?
- 29:12Isn't it wonderful to be able to take scripture and interpret scripture?
- 29:22God doesn't need us to figure things out a lot of times.
- 29:26The word does it on its own.
- 29:28You just got to do the work.
- 29:31And so for we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weakness, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
- 29:43Hebrews 5 says this, although he was the son, they have a son in ESV.
- 29:52It's supposed to be the.
- 29:55The it's this, that or the.
- 29:58Even though he was a son, he learned.
- 30:03Manfano Manfano that sounds so Italian.
- 30:09But it's not.
- 30:10But it sounds like a fun word.
- 30:12You guys can Manfano.
- 30:15Manfano means to be informed or to become accustomed to.
- 30:21How can the perfect God learn obedience?
- 30:26How can he be informed or become accustomed to obedience?
- 30:32Because if he doesn't, then he doesn't understand us.
- 30:36Because we have to learn to be obedient.
- 30:40We have to.
- 30:41He became accustomed to obedience because of the reality of his goodness.
- 30:47But we.
- 30:50We have to really learn obedience.
- 30:54Now, what's interesting about this word, obedience, the scripture says that it's necessary to fulfill the plan of salvation.
- 31:02Obedience is the necessary thing.
- 31:05The requirement to fulfill the plan of salvation.
- 31:09If Jesus did not become accustomed to obedience, salvation is not possible.
- 31:17He had to leave us an example.
- 31:20And if he's been tempted in every way as we are, then he knows he knows the battle that we go through to be obedient.
- 31:28What's amazing is he was always obedient.
- 31:31But that doesn't mean he didn't understand the struggles that we went through.
- 31:34He was tempted in every way as we were.
- 31:38So that's why he said, not my will, but yours be done.
- 31:44Do you see the difference?
- 31:46You know, we would say not your will, but my will.
- 31:50I don't want to die.
- 31:53And I'm going to do my best not to.
- 31:55That's how we feel.
- 31:57Not Christ.
- 31:58He says, I'll die.
- 32:01Now, how did he learn obedience through what he suffered?
- 32:08Through what he suffered.
- 32:09How many of you guys like to suffer?
- 32:13Anybody?
- 32:15You know you don't learn obedience unless you suffer.
- 32:18When life is good and it's on cruise control, it's easy not to obey.
- 32:24But when you suffer, you learn obedience real fast.
- 32:28Because if you don't obey, it's a heck of a lot worse.
- 32:32You're like, yeah, I'm not all about that.
- 32:35Christ learned obedience through what he suffered.
- 32:40Pasco.
- 32:41Pasco means to be affected or have a sensible experience to undergo.
- 32:48You see, he was without sin.
- 32:51But that doesn't mean that he did not have a sensible experience of what sin was like.
- 32:56That doesn't mean that he wasn't affected by our sin.
- 33:00That doesn't mean that he didn't undergo the struggle of sin because of us.
- 33:08Do you remember?
- 33:09If it would be, take this cup from me.
- 33:17But at the end, because he's God and he's perfect and he's without sin and he has a sensible experience of sin because of us,
- 33:31he says, not my will, but yours be done.
- 33:35I hope you're starting to see why Christ as high priest is necessary.
- 33:42Why, if you look at the reality of the high priest is the one who offers the sacrifice on behalf of the people,
- 33:50the high priest is the one who comes in prayers and supplication for his people and for himself
- 33:56in order that the requirement, the obligations necessary for the offering are accomplished.
- 34:03And that is not possible without a messenger, a prophet who will come on behalf of God,
- 34:10speaking to the people concerning God and his will.
- 34:16And in order for the prophet to speak, he must be a messenger sent by God.
- 34:21And if he's a messenger, he must have a message.
- 34:25Do you see the connection here?
- 34:28That's the point of Hebrews.
- 34:31The point of Hebrews is not just that Christ is the true and better.
- 34:36The point of Hebrews is the plan revealed.
- 34:42The plan of salvation revealed right before your eyes.
- 34:49So what we're going to learn next week is who is this Melchizedek guy?
- 34:57Or what is Melchizedek?
- 35:01And Melchizedek kind of sounds cool.
- 35:06If I was to have another kid, I think I would call him Melchizedek.
- 35:11Yeah, I know, I'm talking about if I was younger.
- 35:14I'm old now.
- 35:17But that's the sound.
- 35:18You know, so when you read about Melchizedek, I want you guys to take some time, read verse 9 and 10.
- 35:22And then I want you to go and read chapter 7.
- 35:25And I want you to think about who is Melchizedek?
- 35:31I think the answer I'm going to give you probably going to shock you.
- 35:37I'm excited about that.
- 35:39So we'll get to chapter 7 eventually, a couple weeks.
- 35:42But we're going to finish up on chapter 5, verse 9 and 10, and the rest of the chapter in two weeks
- 35:48because of the senior Sunday graduation celebration next week.
- 35:54So all right.
- 35:56Father, I want to thank you so much for your word.
- 35:58Thank you for your faithfulness to you.
- 36:00And I want to thank you for your love and your support and glory forever in Jesus name. Amen.
