Latest / Worldview Matters With David Fiorazo / Russ Miller: Refuting Lies About Science, The Bible, And Creation
Transcript
- 0:02Welcome to Worldview Matters. Discussing controversial issues. Discerning current events. Defending biblical Christianity. No topic. Off limits. And now, here's your host, David Fiorazzo.
- 0:20Friends and family in Christ, thank you so much for tuning in, watching, listening, sharing the podcast. And we really appreciate your prayers. It's amazing. I think we've been doing this for four and a half years now. And just the growth of the ministry has been such a blessing. And that's under God's sovereignty, of course. So thank you so much for your support.
- 0:42Our brother Russ Miller is back with us. We haven't caught up with him in a while, so he's been busy. Let's give you the website, creationministries.org, creationministries.org. And we've got to mention his book, Consider the Cost. You can get that on his website or on Amazon, creationministries.org. Russ Miller, good to see you, brother. Thanks for taking the time to catch up today.
- 1:09David, great to have a chance to speak with you. Always enjoy it. Been looking forward to today. So you've been doing a lot of tours. You've got, I'm sure, several coming up before the end of the year. Anything you want to highlight or are they all full? Tell us about that.
- 1:25The ones we've been doing this year are pretty much sold out. We a lot of most of the tours we do are in May and June. We do a couple in July, a couple in August. But, yeah, they're in pretty good shape right now. All right. Well, also, there's something else. You have a thumb drive you mentioned that you can send people. Tell us about that.
- 1:46Well, on my website, you can find our Give a Reason thumb drive. It's got my five top teachings in the order I would present them to anybody, a strong Christian, an out-and-out atheist, anyone in between. And I start out with our top ten Darwinian lies in the textbooks, which really shock people and destroys Darwinism, but also opens up people's minds to the fact that there just might be some lies out there. And it opens up their minds.
- 2:16endowed by our creator, our Christian heritage, and how our freedoms come from our creator. Yet we've been teaching the last 63 years of our kids that there's no creator. I have one that's the top 25 skeptical questions and answers. And I ended up with Noah's Ark and dinosaurs. And I use dinosaurs to shock people with the truth of God's word. The message is that God's word is true, word for word, and cover to cover. And well, um...
- 2:45Noah provided one narrow plank way that led into God's one and only plan from his first judgment by water. God's now given us a narrow pathway that leads to that straight narrow gate, which is Jesus Christ, which is God's one plan of salvation from his coming global judgment. So those are all on there, and I don't copyright it. I let people make all the copies they want to give to others.
- 3:08Got a call from a fellow in Michigan about two weeks ago, and he told me he's made over 700 copies to give away. A lady in Washington's given out over a thousand copies, and it's a great way to make an impact. So that's our give a reason based on 1 Peter 3.15, give a reason for the hope that's in your heart. So that's on our website along with the book as well.
- 3:31Praise God, brother. Thank you for offering those resources. Now, one of the things we want to talk about today is what's happening in the church, in the country, and I think of Psalm 11-3, which you sent me this title for today's podcast, If the Foundations Be Destroyed, What Can the Righteous Do? And I'm just saying, if our foundations are destroyed, what can we do as Bible-believing Christians? So...
- 3:59Set this up for us, Russ, where we're at based on the pew and the gallop and the polls that have been coming out and the segments of the population that are falling away from God or leaving the faith. Go ahead. Well, sad to say, and I think you and I, we've been aware for 30 plus years that we've been losing the majority of our own kids by the age of 20.
- 4:23And mainly because of them thinking Darwinian evolution is true and the Bible is just a book of fairy tales. But recent studies are showing and have been for a couple of years now that
- 4:34One of the largest growing religious groups in the United States of America are former Christians. So not only the youth, but adults as well. So I think it was Pew and Barna, they've both done some polls in talking to adults that lost their faith. And the top reasons that they're losing their faith are thinking that Christians are anti-science,
- 5:01thinking that Darwinian evolution is true, and also thinking that there's no evidence in support of biblical creation or the global flood. Well, those are things that in my ministry I cover, and those are things that we cover in those thumb drives in that book, Consider the Cost. But I thought today we could answer that question from Psalm 11, 3, if the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? We can rebuild those foundations. We own the truth.
- 5:30Now, secularists own the system, but we own the truth, and that's where we've got to define things and make the battleground. I'm glad you put it that way, and it's sobering to hear secularists own the system and all the major institutions. They've been, I don't know, I used to use the word hijacked, but I think it's more the case we kind of gave them up.
- 5:54we meaning the church in America, Bible-believing Christians, and you're right, people are falling away because they do not know the truth. They've heard the lies. They've been duped by people saying, you know, you don't believe in science. If you believe the Bible, and you're kind of scratching your head going, wow. Rusty, we have a lot of work to do, right, to kind of re-educate, to rebuild the foundation. So where do you want to start then?
- 6:22David, you're so right. It almost seems overwhelming. It does seem overwhelming at first. So where do we start? We have to start at the beginning and just chip away at it because again, we do own the truth.
- 6:35The first one, thinking Christians are anti-science. I think if all of us are honest with ourselves as believers, there are times we think, wow, what God's word says really conflicts with what science is saying. And here's some information that...
- 6:52Many people will find eye opening, even life or even worldview changing. And that is to understand what the word science means, because there's a couple of key definitions of science that are out there today. And let me let me define those. And I think everybody listening will see it loud and clear within about a minute and a half to two minutes.
- 7:15When we hear the word science, or it's in a science book, or we hear a scientist said, we assume it's a proven fact. Well, that's where we get misled. Now, that's operational science. Now, operational science, you may never have heard the term. You may not know the official definition. But when you think something's a proven fact, you assume it's an operational scientific fact. So operational science is knowledge that's been derived from the study and testing of evidence.
- 7:45You have evidence and you can run tests on it over and over and over and over again and you get the same outcome every single time it becomes a scientific fact. Well, when we hear a scientist say something or it's in a science book,
- 8:00We assume it's a proven fact. That's operational science. And by the way, that's a Christian's best friend. I'll explain that more in just a moment. But you see, about half of everything we have ever been told is science, and we've been taught as science, is not operational science. It's what's called historical science. And historical science, now remember,
- 8:25Operational science is knowledge derived from the study of the evidence. Historical science are stories. They call them historical narratives that try to explain non-observable events that took place in the non-observable past. So since we own the truth, but Sacrales own the system, all of their narratives about unobserved events from the unobserved past
- 8:51are going to fit the secular belief system, which is atheism. They're going to deny anything that has to do with biblical creation or the global flood
- 9:01They're going to interpret and make their narrative based on their starting belief system. They own the system. So all these historical narratives masquerade in the science fit the non-biblical, literally the sacralist or the atheist point of view. And that's where people get misled thinking the Bible is against science. The Bible is not against science. But where there's conflict in what the Bible says and what we're being told is science is always interesting.
- 9:30with their historical narratives. Let me say a couple things about that, David. First of all, viable human history only goes back about 5,000 years. So if you're hearing anything that's more than 5,000 or 6,000 years ago, you're getting a historical narrative. If someone's telling you this took place 10,000, 20,000, 100,000, a million, a billion years ago, you've got a historical narrative, a story coming your way.
- 10:00I like to tell people, if it starts out millions of years ago, what you're really hearing is once upon a time because a fairy tale is about to follow. And it's always going to support and fit the secular worldview. Now, let me give you can I just give you an example of how inefficient, how inaccurate these historical narratives can be. Now, have you ever seen oil drain from a car?
- 10:24You pull out that little plug in the bottom and the oil pours in the pan below. Now, from an operational science standpoint, you can do that over and over and over and over again and time it every time. And you're going to conclude it takes about two minutes to fill that pan with oil. But let's say you've never seen that. And you come along five minutes later and you observe the full pan of oil. Well, based on your belief that oil.
- 10:53and I should have gone back that historical science, one of their key beliefs is the processes today are uniform of past events. So you look at that full pan of oil and you want to know, well, how long did it take to fill that pan with oil? Well, it's already taken place and you didn't see it happen. So you're going to make a narrative book. You watch it for three days, five days for an entire week. And after one week, you see one drop of oil fall from the car into the pan below. Boop.
- 11:22Well, based on your belief that process has always been uniform, you conclude it took 2,000 years to fill that pan with oil, one drop per week. Well, that's the problem with these non-observed historical narratives. They're going to be way off from what the actual facts are.
- 11:40And whenever there's a conflict between what the Bible says and what we are told is science, you think about it, did anyone observe that? And you're gonna realize, hey, wait a minute, that's a story, that's a historical narrative. Sacralists own the system and anyone interpreting these things, making up the stories, the narratives, it's gonna have to fit the secular atheist worldview. And that's where the conflict comes into play.
- 12:07Let's double down a little bit on something you said, meaning Hollywood, the creators of these documentaries on where the earth came from and how things, quote, evolved. I can't tell you how many times I've heard on even like Nat Geo, National Geographic Channel or Nat Geo.
- 12:27the History Channel, a narrator coming and seeing the earth and hearing millions of years ago, dot, dot, dot. And you just said, when you hear that, you're about to hear a fairy tale, because that's a lie. That is not based on the Bible. It's not based on truth. It wasn't observable. And yet people take that as fact.
- 12:47And so we've got to be debunking these things and not even watching those programs because there may be some interesting content, but they start off with the wrong premise, the wrong foundation. Right, Russ?
- 13:00Exactly. They've got a faulty worldview and they do own the system. So many people are misled by their secular, their historical narratives, thinking that that is science. And again, if it's more than a few thousand years old, if it wasn't observed, if it's more than five or 6,000 years old, it's for sure a historical narrative. But you could have a historical narrative just like someone draining oil from the car. If,
- 13:26If it wasn't observed and they've got to make up a story on how it came about, you're getting a narrative, not a scientific fact. And that's where people get misled. And, hey, David, a lot of people don't realize of the 200 or so branches of modern science, over 80 percent of those were started by Christians to study God's creation.
- 13:47Francis Bacon, the father of the scientific method. Isaac Newton, the greatest scientist of all time. Louis Pasteur, on and on it goes.
- 13:57but over 80% of the branches of modern science were started by Christians. That's what led to not only science, but to Western civilization. If it weren't for Christians, we'd still be back in the dark ages. So real science is our best friend, but you've got to watch out for false science and false knowledge masquerading as if it were science.
- 14:19Thank you, Russ. We've got to continue this conversation in a couple seconds here. Again, friends, the website creationministries.org. I have to mention what's going on again for the 16th year. Freedom Project Academy is enrolling students for the fall.
- 14:35And they've been doing this for a while. They're good at it. They deliver a fully accredited classical online education rooted firmly in Judeo-Christian values for kids in pre-kindergarten through high school. They offer live, anytime, and homeschool courses to fit your child's needs. Here's the website.
- 14:54Freedom, F-O-R, school.com. That's freedomforschool.com. Save 10% on tuition when you use the code David. Again, use the code David. Save 10% on all courses at Freedom Project Academy. Again, the website one more time. Freedomforschool.com. Get started if you haven't already. Russ Miller, you're setting up a really good argument
- 15:23for Christians to say, you know what, I've been believing some lies, some propaganda, some faulty ideas that have chipped away a little bit at my worldview. So this conversation, I believe, is very helpful. And to quote you, this is in an email exchange we had. You said this, what we're talking about, what you're setting up and defining—
- 15:44operational versus historical science. It's worldview changing or life changing to a lot of believers. Since you say half of the things we've been taught as science are actually biased secular narratives and not science. We've got to emphasize that point, friends, and also consider who's teaching, quote unquote, who's telling you these things. Go ahead, Russ, continue, please.
- 16:11Well, you know, the Bible warns us to beware of false knowledge, false science, and there's a lot of it out there today. Real Christianity and the Bible fit with real science perfectly. The real science is on our side, but again, although we own the truth, they own the system. Right.
- 16:31You know, one of the big things, once you get past the definitions here, which are vital to understand, it will really open your eyes to false narratives. But one is thinking another reason that we're losing so many people is they think Darwinian evolution is true.
- 16:47I only have the one teaching the top 10 Darwinian lies in the textbooks on Darwinism. It pretty much destroys Darwinism. At Northern Arizona University in Arizona, I spoke there several times, rented out one of their auditoriums. And after I presented the top 10 Darwinian lies in the textbooks, one biology teacher quit her job and became a Christian and NAU responded by developing a...
- 17:15accredited course attacking me and biblical creation. They ran for at least four years. I don't know if they still run it or not, but for the final exam, they just made fun of me for an hour and a half. And that's the level of immaturity that we are dealing with.
- 17:30You know, and David, you probably heard this before, but when when someone comes to the point that they're just name calling, that's right where I want them, because I'll just interrupt and say, hey, you know, name calling is the last bastion for those with no evidence to put forth. Let's stay with the evidence.
- 17:46Well, Darwinists can't go another minute before they start name-calling because they don't have any evidence. Darwinian macroevolution never happened. All we see are microadaptations and variations. You could call that microevolution. But the microchanges are biblical. Ten times in the book of Genesis, we're told plants or animals are going to bring forth after their kind.
- 18:09And today, all we find are dogs bring forth dogs, cats bring forth cats, pine trees bring forth pine trees, people bring forth people, et cetera. And the variations, slight micro changes within the kind
- 18:24are caused by the sorting or the loss of genetic information as gene pools get weaker and weaker. Darwinian macroevolution needs massive amounts of new and beneficial genetic information added to a gene pool to cause gene pools to get stronger and stronger. Real science, a believer's best friend, knows of no way for nature to add that kind of information to an existing gene pool. And yes, I cover the mutation theory, neo-Darwinism,
- 18:52in my teachings and in the book as well. But real science has always supported us. Since 2001, I've been showing people that you can destroy Darwinism scientifically in four seconds flat. That being gene depletion plus natural selection makes Darwinism impossible because the changes are caused by the loss of information and things get weaker and weaker until they die out. Now, recently I've...
- 19:20I guess I've come to the conclusion, I feel God showed me, that there is no such thing as natural selection. There's no selector even out there, and that's the power behind supposed Darwinian change. But there is no selector out there. In fact, natural selection is nothing but a phrase. It's two words. There's no selector out there. But, David, we do see weaker gene pools dying off and being removed.
- 19:44Well, it finally dawned on me when I was writing Consider the Cost that this isn't just a random chance event. We know that God put a wide range of genetic information into his created kind so they can adapt to various situations. But now we know that those adaptations are caused by the loss of information. Well, God also deliberately designed a limit in the gene pools
- 20:10that if they lose too much information rather than continuing on and corrupting that gene pool,
- 20:17They lose too much and God set a limit and they die off. It's God's quality assurance program. If you have a manufacturing plant, the QA, if they've got something coming down the line that's defective, they remove it. Well, God deliberately designed a QA program in his gene pool. And if things lose too much through adaptations, they get removed. So the entire gene pool doesn't become corrupted. It's intelligent design.
- 20:45And God just showed this to me about a month ago. So I'm hoping more people will start picking up on that. It's a deliberately designed system by God. Yep. There was and is a designer, and things were deliberately designed, I mean, masterfully. I mean, just look at—aside from the world and creation, let's look at the human body.
- 21:09To me, and I'm not a medical person at all, but it's absolutely miraculous, the system that God created and designed. And to say that that could have come from some sort of microorganism in the water that ended up getting fins and crawled up on the earth and then ended up being an animal like an ape, and then here we are, these animals.
- 21:34high-functioning brain machines, these human beings, right, that we are so blessed as the human species. I don't know. I guess I'm a very simple man, and I take God at his word, and it takes more faith to believe the other side, doesn't it, Russ?
- 21:53It does. And you know, all of that Darwinian evolution, all their supposed proofs are nothing but historical narratives. They start talking about, hey, look, there's an ape. It has a head, two arms, two legs, and a torso. And humans have a head, two arms, two legs, and a torso. And they make up this big story about how one changed into the other and miraculously leaving no evidence behind. That's the neat part. But no, we were made in the image of God.
- 22:21And we can certainly talk about, you know, humans and why we have different looking people groups, not different races. Well, one race, the human race, why we have slight adaptational looking changes between us. It all has to do with Pangea, continental drift, the global flood, the separation of Babel. But I think we'll probably have to have to talk about that another time.
- 22:44Yeah, that's a lot. And we could have those conversations, too. But let's go back to they say there's no evidence, no evidence for either the flood, for example. You go to the Grand Canyon, you talk about, you know, all the layers. In fact, there's an amazing picture on your website of the Grand Staircase.
- 23:05And just if you want to do that, we've only got four minutes left, Russ. If you just want to talk about that, because people say they don't know how to respond to no evidence for the flood. And I'm thinking, wow, well, I know a couple of guys that do. And Russ Miller is one of them.
- 23:23Well, David, and you know this, but in 2 Peter 3, 3-6 in the New Testament, there is a last days prophecy. And I'm going to paraphrase here that in the last days, nonbelievers are going to claim uniform processes and they're going to deny the global flood.
- 23:40Well, secular geology for the last 100 years has been based on two beliefs, uniform processes and denial of the global flood. But the proof of the global floods overwhelming, they deny the flood because all old earth beliefs are based on the Earth's crust, so stratified layers separated by grain size, weight and density by moving water. So we have all the sand grains together, all the shale grains together, all the limestone grains together.
- 24:05They deny the flood and say they formed slowly at about one inch per thousand years, and that's where they came up with the geologic timescale about 230 years ago. Radometric dating techniques have to match the timescale, so all old earth beliefs are based on denial of the global flood and a belief in uniform processes.
- 24:27And, you know, just the stratified layers themselves, average a mile deep, making up the crust of the Earth, a great proof of the global flood, and wipe out every old Earth belief, by the way, if you understand the flood's role in this, at Grand Canyon.
- 24:43I think most people have either been there or they've seen pictures, well, it's a mile from the rim down to the river. Now that's a big hole in the ground, but what they won't tell you at Grand Canyon, that mile of stratified layers is nothing. There used to be two miles of layers above
- 24:59the kaibab limestone that makes up the rim of the canyon. Those two miles away, almost two miles deep were removed south to the sea. If you've ever been to Zion or Bryce, you've been in the Grand Staircase. So if you go north of Grand Canyon, oh, about 100, yeah, about 100 and 100,
- 25:1650 miles, you'll come to the 2500 foot pink cliffs of Bryce. Now those layers were removed south to the sea and the waters dropped about 40 miles, cut to 2500 foot white and gray cliffs where you find Zion, removing those layers south to the sea.
- 25:33dropped 45 miles, cut the 2,000-foot-tall Vermilion Cliffs, and removed those layers south to the sea. And I actually dropped about another 90 to 100 miles and cut the 2,000-foot-tall Mogollon Rim that runs east and west across northern Arizona, removing those layers south to the sea. So on my website, you can find a depiction, or just Google Grand Staircase, you'll find some depictions, and it'll show those layers have been removed from above where the Grand Canyon is,
- 26:01Grand Canyon then formed after the floodwaters removed those sediments. But the Grand Staircase is missing 133,000 cubic miles of sediment.
- 26:15How much is that? Well, Grand Canyon is only missing 900 cubic miles. So the sediments missing from Grand Canyon aren't even 1% of what's been removed from the staircase. And that's the reason I talk about the staircase and the trips through there on our Grand Staircase tours.
- 26:33It really is fascinating. And yeah, they say there's no evidence. Well, you know, there's evidence. They just don't want to acknowledge it or look at it. And it's a spiritual battle, Russ, right? Because they don't want to believe. It takes an act of the will, ultimately, to come to the Lord and to believe His Word is true.
- 26:54But for too many years, people have believed the lies, the propaganda, the false teachings, and false gospels. Well, brother, thank you so much. Again, creationministries.org. And if you click on—I think—how did I get to that picture of the Grand Staircase? I think I clicked on—
- 27:11biblical creation speaker, meet speaker Russ Miller, I think, and that's where that grand staircase picture is. It really is astounding, friends. Look at that when you go to his website. Brother, we appreciate your time. Great to catch up with you. Thanks so much for all you do. Thank you, David. Thank you for all you do. God bless you. Thank you. You're most welcome. Friends, thank you so much for supporting the podcast. God bless you. And as always, keep speaking the truth about things that matter. We'll see you next time.
