Transcript
- 0:00Hey everybody, welcome back to Turn Back the Clock, another
- 0:04episode here with my friend. Adam, Splendid sports, Adam,
- 0:08How's it going today? Pretty good, man.
- 0:10Hey, Dylan, I, you know, I just realized when we jumped on here,
- 0:13I'm getting paler and you're, you're getting Tanner.
- 0:17I think since I moved back to the Northeast, I was used to
- 0:19having a little bit of a tan, you know, living in Arizona
- 0:21before. Now I'm looking at myself.
- 0:23I'm looking more pale here as the weather is getting cooler in
- 0:26the Northeast. So I got to get used to that.
- 0:28Well you must be getting ultra pale because I haven't surfed in
- 0:3230-4 days, the longest stretch. Of not surfing.
- 0:36For me, in at least eight years since I blew my knee out so.
- 0:41I haven't been. At the beach I've been staying
- 0:44clear 'cause it's kind of heartbreaking to go to the ocean
- 0:47and I can't even swim right now anyways.
- 0:50So yeah, you must be getting real pale 'cause I'm pretty pale
- 0:53for myself so. That's it.
- 0:55That's we're in October here. It's been good weather back here
- 0:58though, but I just don't get as much sun as I used to these
- 1:01days. So what would before we get
- 1:03started, is there any timetable on when you can go surfing again
- 1:07or is it just like to be determined?
- 1:09To be determined my my muscle doesn't work on my right side.
- 1:12None of this works. And it's in a lot of pain.
- 1:14So to be determined, pinched nerve.
- 1:17So, yeah, well, all right. So tonight.
- 1:21Guys. We got some fun topics to talk
- 1:23about and some cards to share. I'm going to give you guys the
- 1:29list of the rundown of what we're going to talking about so
- 1:31you guys can look forward to what's coming.
- 1:33So the first thing we're going to do is.
- 1:35Adam's going to show some cards that either or pickups or cards
- 1:40that he was really just been focusing on and looking at or
- 1:43cards he's never shared. Cuz I know he's not really
- 1:45picking up cards. So I just wanted to talk to him
- 1:47about what he's been, you know, cuz some of us, we spend time in
- 1:50certain binders more than others are looking at certain cards.
- 1:54So that's round one. I'm going to share some cards,
- 1:57some pickups that I've been focusing on.
- 2:00And then the. Third round is kind of the big
- 2:02one and we're going to talk about I appeal stickers.
- 2:07Has the price gone too far? For the gold.
- 2:11Stickers. Has it not gone far enough?
- 2:14Is there more room to run? We're going to really.
- 2:16Dive into that topic. Because it's one that's really
- 2:19close to my. Heart because of the whole.
- 2:21I appeal thing I've been going on in the last three years and
- 2:25the centering. Thing and that's all inclusive.
- 2:27So I really am excited to talk about this.
- 2:30I know this, you know, we talked about, I appeal a lot, but.
- 2:34This is going to be a little. Different this is going to be a
- 2:37lot of value based I appeal versus you know what's going on
- 2:41right now. The whole movement with these
- 2:43stickers I'm excited to talk about.
- 2:45And then the final. Round if we get to, if we had
- 2:47time, it's going to be what really.
- 2:50Grinds my gear so. Adam will have a take at it.
- 2:54You know, whether it's a rant or just.
- 2:56Something that's been bothering them, something in the hobby
- 3:00that he's. Been on his brain and I'm going
- 3:02to likewise do one. We'll keep them to a minimum,
- 3:05but have some fun with it. Shout out to, you know, Tony
- 3:10Southern collector and Mike. They do this at the end.
- 3:14They always do 1 and. I've always wanted to do what
- 3:16really grinds my gear from the Family Guy episode for years,
- 3:20but I've never had the heart to like to really lay into it.
- 3:23But I think we're going to. We're going to have fun with
- 3:25this one, so. Let's dive right in, Adam.
- 3:28What have you been up to with the car collecting world right
- 3:32now? Yeah, so I mentioned before to
- 3:35you that I was taking a break and I I've stuck to that.
- 3:38Now I do have some big pickups I've never shown, but I promise
- 3:42these were picked up before I took my break, right?
- 3:44So you know how I go I'll, I'll pick up like big cars, but I'll
- 3:47just let them sit for a while without showing anyone or saying
- 3:50anything. I just kind of want to keep it
- 3:52to myself and then at some point in the future I, I like to show
- 3:56what I picked up. But so these, these are massive
- 4:00pickups for me, like big pickups, 2 of them and I haven't
- 4:05shown them out here on YouTube. So they were picked up before.
- 4:08I think when I when I started taking my break, it was like
- 4:11maybe July or I don't know end of July or something like that.
- 4:13So it's been a couple months, but I haven't bought anything
- 4:15big and I don't plan to for the rest of the year at least you
- 4:19know. So let me show the first one
- 4:23now. Well.
- 4:24Put yourself on big screen. OK, see it up close.
- 4:26So I got to take it out. It's in a little plastic thing
- 4:28here and I take it out. There we go.
- 4:31Yeah, I'll put it. Put it on Solo here all right,
- 4:34so as you know, I like to collect Tom Brady cards.
- 4:39I did a run where I have all 44 of his base rookie cards.
- 4:42So was happy to complete that, but I always had to stop my head
- 4:47like I'll never have his best card, right, because it's Tom
- 4:50Brady and it's kind of like Michael Jordan or even, you
- 4:53know, some of these other goats in the hobby.
- 4:55Their their cards are so expensive that you never really
- 4:58get their best card. But I think I was able to get
- 5:02Tom Brady's best football card. It's not a rookie card, but it
- 5:07is the 2002 tops his first ever game used relic card autograph
- 5:14card. And this is a so is auto right
- 5:19there. It's it's hand numbered for
- 5:20those listening hand numbered to 150.
- 5:23So it was 150 of them and it's on card auto pack pulled.
- 5:28And it's the the coolest part to me is it's got an authentic
- 5:33game. Use football from his first
- 5:36Super Bowl, the 2002 Super Bowl 36, and you can see the Wilson
- 5:42of the football there. Dude.
- 5:45Again, I think this is Tom Brady's best card.
- 5:47It's by no means his most expensive card.
- 5:49He's got cards that would go for $1,000,000 or more.
- 5:53You know, he's got one of one rookie cards.
- 5:55But I think when you're saying a player's best card, it doesn't
- 5:58always mean the rarest card or even the most expensive card.
- 6:01And in this case, I think this is his best card because even
- 6:05though his rookie year was the year 2000, Topps never made
- 6:09cards of his until 2002. He didn't have any Topps cards
- 6:12from 2000 or 2001. So I mean, it's Topps.
- 6:16It's the brand first year of Topps.
- 6:18It's his first game used rail card.
- 6:19And the game that it was from, it was his.
- 6:21He played for 20 something seasons.
- 6:24This was his, you know, second season in the league, but the
- 6:28first he really played and this was his most important game, the
- 6:32first Super Bowl. So I mean a a game used ball
- 6:35from the from the from the Super Bowl, his first Super Bowl, the
- 6:39most important game autograph. I think it's his best card.
- 6:44Some people would disagree. You feel free to disagree in the
- 6:46comments. I know he's got some big rookie
- 6:47cards, but I think when you factor everything in, this is
- 6:52his best card. So I was able to pick this up.
- 6:54You know, I I forget what month, but it was back before I took
- 6:58the break and this was one of the reasons I took a break is
- 7:00because I went heavy. So hold.
- 7:02On don't move past that card, I got some thoughts.
- 7:05Yeah, dude, I think, you know, I love it.
- 7:08Back. Hold on.
- 7:09Let me put it back. There we go.
- 7:10Sorry. I love that you say that's his
- 7:12best card because IA 100% agree. I think there's a big difference
- 7:16between vintage cards and modern cards.
- 7:20I think the modern hobby the modern.
- 7:22Cards, you know it's. The the rookie cards to me
- 7:27aren't always the main focus and I really.
- 7:30Love that where vintage the rookie cards the main focus
- 7:33because there's not as many and it's the first one and when you
- 7:37when you find a you know, guys. Cards through the years.
- 7:41On Modern man, you can have one in the middle of his career that
- 7:45just shines beyond the other. One just looks incredibly
- 7:50better. But for that card in particular,
- 7:52I. Think being the 1st.
- 7:55Of its. Kind the very first you say, I
- 7:57guess it's not a jersey card, but relic relic card.
- 8:03And auto. And.
- 8:05First auto too. First, his first, Not his first
- 8:08auto card. He's got some of those in his
- 8:10rookie year, but it's his first auto relic card, you know first.
- 8:14Auto relic card now that to me. Rings a bell and I don't think
- 8:18that I I think the future of card that's going to be a.
- 8:22Really big sticking point. I know a lot of guys are already
- 8:25into that, like Shane shoebox legends.
- 8:27He loves the first of first, the parallels and when they have a
- 8:31long tradition, 2001 tops being numbered to 2001.
- 8:35I think that. Goes a long way.
- 8:36I think that's a, that's an incredible card out of I, you
- 8:39know, I'm not a football guy. But I can't really get fired up.
- 8:42And I get passionate when guys like you share their football
- 8:45cards and they they talk about things like that.
- 8:48And I think that's a monumental card.
- 8:51You know, I think you did well right there.
- 8:53I think it's under, I mean, again, I, I bought it with the,
- 8:56with the long term collecting thing, right?
- 8:58Like someday we're going to sell maybe all of our cards, at least
- 9:01some of our cards. I, I hope to hold this as long
- 9:04as I hold my collection, but I feel like this is a card that
- 9:07when I do sell it someday, if I ever sell it, I think it could
- 9:10be worth a lot more than I I paid for it.
- 9:12I think it's one of those cards. So I saw not only did I want it
- 9:16for the collection, but I also saw it as something that was a
- 9:19good buy, I think, and I could see it going up a lot in the
- 9:22future. So it could be a good investment
- 9:25too. If that wasn't in the slab,
- 9:26would you touch that football? Of course, yeah.
- 9:29And, and actually I have, I had it.
- 9:31So he, he has another card from 2004, I think that I have where
- 9:37it's, it's a game used football from the same game.
- 9:40So, but it no autograph. So it was a couple years later
- 9:43from Don Ross and I had it and it was in a what was it SGC slab
- 9:47or something like that. When I bought it, I cracked it
- 9:49out and I, I, I felt the football.
- 9:53Yeah. I'm like, I want to touch a
- 9:55football from that, that game. You know what's funny?
- 9:57I put it, I posted this on Instagram and there's a guy on
- 10:01Instagram called Patrick Ryan P Ryan collection.
- 10:04He's a, you know, he has a big collection, he's a heavy
- 10:07collector and he he has a copy of this card too.
- 10:10And he agreed that it's his best card, Tom Brady's best card.
- 10:14But one of the things he mentioned and I didn't really
- 10:16think too much about. I I like the design on the card,
- 10:18just the, the, the red, white and blue in the background and
- 10:20everything. But what he he mentioned is
- 10:23it's, it's got a it's like a post 911.
- 10:25This game 2002, it was like a few months after 911, like four
- 10:30months or five months in the, in the Patriots, the Patriots after
- 10:34911, it was like a very symbolic thing.
- 10:37And that Super Bowl, they designed that whole Super Bowl
- 10:40to be very like patriotic and everything based on 9/11 and U2
- 10:45played half time the Super Bowl. It was just like, it was a very
- 10:48meaningful game for a lot of reasons for not only the
- 10:51Patriots, but just kind of a, a different, different vibe at
- 10:55that game. And the New England sports scene
- 11:00changed forever after this game, too.
- 11:02I'm, I'm talking, I'm one of those people who believes the
- 11:04Red Sox never would have won the World Series in 2004 a couple
- 11:08years later if the Patriots didn't win this game.
- 11:10I'm telling you that the whole area was just negative, right?
- 11:13Like we hadn't won anything in forever.
- 11:16Everyone always expected something bad to happen or
- 11:18nothing good to happen. And this game changed the whole
- 11:21mindset. I'm telling you, everyone all of
- 11:23a sudden was like positive think, oh, we can win, we can do
- 11:26it, you know, And Tom Brady was the reason for that.
- 11:28I, I believe he was the biggest reason.
- 11:30And after that, next thing you know, the Red Sox win and they
- 11:34keep winning and the Celtics win again and the Bruins and the
- 11:37Patriots win five more Super Bowl.
- 11:38So it changed everything this game.
- 11:42So for me, it was just I had to go for it.
- 11:45I had to get this one and yeah, I so happy to get that that
- 11:51card, man, but I'll I'll let you go now.
- 11:54No, I. Want to see?
- 11:56I want to see your next one you wanted.
- 11:58Me to go again OK, yeah, go again all right well, this is a
- 12:00I'll just do this quick, but I'm not going to go solo because
- 12:04everyone's seen this card right. This is the 1960 Topps Mickey
- 12:08Mantle base card. I just I was looking at this
- 12:12card to your question like I feel like this is a Mickey
- 12:15Mantle card that doesn't get as much publicity as some of the
- 12:20other ones. I I don't I don't see this that
- 12:22much like people showing it off and stuff like that and I've
- 12:25always loved it. This is one of my favorite
- 12:27mantle cards. I just love the design.
- 12:30I just always love this card, the colors, the logo put.
- 12:33Yourself solo, Adam. I wanna see.
- 12:35I wanna see that centered beauty.
- 12:37I will. It's pretty, it's pretty
- 12:38centered. It's it's a it's a good grade,
- 12:40but not not the most centered, but it's good.
- 12:44It's a good one. I don't know.
- 12:45It really does the. Colors on that it just screams
- 12:48Mickey Mantle and New York Yankees and.
- 12:50Yeah. The 1960 tops, Mickey Mantle, I
- 12:55personally, that's one of my favorites.
- 12:57And again, it's not the one you see when people pick up a
- 12:59mantle. You don't see the 60 tops that
- 13:02much. But for me, it's always been one
- 13:03of my favorite designs. So I've been thinking about that
- 13:07car lately. I wanted to show that one.
- 13:09And then the last one. Again, this was picked up before
- 13:13I took my break. This was one of the last ones I
- 13:14picked up. And again, the card I've wanted
- 13:19for years and it is the 1967 Sandy Koufax Retorado.
- 13:28And let me tell you something, I was not planning on getting this
- 13:32card yet I was. It was one of the cards that I
- 13:36had on my long term list. But when I saw this copy pop up,
- 13:40it's a 1.5 SGC for those listening.
- 13:44It is the one of the nicest fronts that I've ever seen in my
- 13:47life. It's it's centered, there's no
- 13:50paper loss. The colors are just fantastic.
- 13:53It was like the perfect copy for me.
- 13:55And I just said I got to get this one because if I'm going to
- 13:59get this card, this is the one I'm getting now on the back
- 14:02because it's it's got a little paper loss.
- 14:04It's a 1.5. These are in albums in
- 14:06Venezuela, but I said I'm getting this one.
- 14:10So I finally added this card to the collection and I have to
- 14:15mention that James Elite Hunter, because when I started doing my
- 14:19three and three series, he was one of the, I think he was maybe
- 14:22the 4th or fifth one that I did it with.
- 14:24And this was one of his cards on the list.
- 14:26And I honestly, I did not even know about this card before he
- 14:30came on on my channel. And, and right when I saw it, I
- 14:34in my head, I said, I'm getting that someday I'm getting I'm
- 14:36getting that card. It's the coolest photo I've ever
- 14:39seen on a, on a pitcher card. He's got his hand wrapped around
- 14:42the ball just amazing. So I, that was at least a couple
- 14:47years ago, maybe three years ago when he did that, when he when
- 14:50James came on my show and here we are.
- 14:53I I finally got it. So that's a major pick up for
- 14:57me. And I guess you could say it
- 14:59might be saying again. Here's here's an interesting
- 15:01question. Do you consider like this Sandy
- 15:04Koufax's best card or is it his rookie card?
- 15:07Even though there's like less than 100 of these that that are
- 15:10known, but there's a lot more his rookie card.
- 15:12What would you say is a better card?
- 15:14What's his best card? I mean, dude, you're talking
- 15:16about talking to the rookie card machine here.
- 15:19Yeah, right. I mean, I just, I can't get past
- 15:22his rookie card. I I think it's just absolutely
- 15:25beautiful. I can't get past that.
- 15:27I know. Is that card incredible?
- 15:29Would I trade a rookie card for that?
- 15:31Yes, because the value and the look of it's outstanding, but my
- 15:36brain can't separate the tops rookie cards from, you know,
- 15:42anything else beating them. So yeah, because my problem the.
- 15:45Best card doesn't always mean it's the rarest card of the the
- 15:48person's car right? So I would agree with you.
- 15:50I think if someone said what's his best card it's his rookie
- 15:52card. But maybe my favorite card is.
- 15:55Is this 1 here? I'll tell you what, you know
- 15:57what's funny out of the three? Cards you shared.
- 16:00If you were to let me have any one of those cards, I would take
- 16:05that Tom Brady. I just the story he told and the
- 16:09way it presents and. The football on there, like
- 16:12having a youth football from that game, I think I don't even
- 16:17like football. Like I barely even know what
- 16:19football is. I would choose.
- 16:21That card out of all of them, I think it's really sick to have
- 16:25on my wall and then like my nieces and nephews come over,
- 16:28that would blow their freaking little kids brains off their
- 16:30skull, you know? I just think that's really sick.
- 16:33As much as I love Mantle and Koufax, but that's pretty.
- 16:37Those are some bangers at them. Those are, yeah, those are some
- 16:40big ones for me. So now you understand more of
- 16:42why I've been saying I need to take a break and I am taking a
- 16:45break because I went, I got, I had some major pickups earlier
- 16:48in the year. So that's why now you probably
- 16:51understand that a little better. Yeah, you dropped the hammer for
- 16:53sure. I dropped the hammer man.
- 16:55I just, I went for it and now I'm just coasting.
- 16:58Now I'm coasting. Awesome All right, I'll show you
- 17:02guys just a couple of pickups and then we're going to go head
- 17:05head into the topic of the night.
- 17:08So if you guys follow my YouTube channel at all, you know I've
- 17:15been really going after Japanese vintage baseball cards of some
- 17:19of my favorite players, you know?
- 17:21Oh, Haramoto and Shigeo. But I've also am obsessed with
- 17:29certain sets and this set right here in 1961 JGA 21 Shonen
- 17:36Magazine playing cards. This is Katsua Nomura and I've
- 17:41been picking up some of these cards when they pop up from my
- 17:46buddy Robert Prestige. Auctions.
- 17:49He has a what? Not show.
- 17:51And every Tuesday and Saturday he's selling vintage Japanese
- 17:55baseball cards. And this is my favorite set.
- 17:58And he had, I think, 4 different ones that I didn't know, you
- 18:03know? I didn't know existed to begin
- 18:04with because I never really looked up the.
- 18:06Checklist or anything but this guy is number two all time home
- 18:12run leader in Japan with 657 behind Satahara.
- 18:19Oh, what I mean this card is. Epic to begin with, but what?
- 18:24Really blew my mind is that I have a card in my collection and
- 18:28I shared this on my channel. So forgive me if you've watched
- 18:30my channel, but nobody watched that video anyways.
- 18:33So. I'm going to share it again.
- 18:35I had this 1973 Kalbi card which 1973 Kalbi is the very first
- 18:44Kalbi set that. They put out.
- 18:47In Japan, and these cards came in packs of potato chips and I
- 18:53believe other food products as well, and they came one card per
- 18:56pack and the set's massive like 800 cards.
- 18:59Well, this card I bought at it wasn't an auction.
- 19:03It was after the fact, but I had this in my collection, Kay.
- 19:06And what I didn't know was this guy playing catch it here.
- 19:10This is Tarahara O and #1 in home runs, this guy playing
- 19:15catcher is Nomura and he's the number two home run king.
- 19:20In Japan and I. Already had this in my
- 19:22collection so it it blew my brain knowing that I had this
- 19:26incredible card in my collection.
- 19:28I had no idea who the other guy on the card.
- 19:30Was. And it just made the card I
- 19:33already own. Even more special.
- 19:35Like I was just. Like thrilled out on my mind
- 19:38because every time I pick up a card of a different Hall of
- 19:41Famer in the Japanese league from my buddy Rob or anywhere
- 19:46else, I Google him, print out his Wikipedia and I learn about
- 19:50him. Well, once I realized I had
- 19:52another card with him on it. So the guy in the front home run
- 19:55champion O and the guy in the back behind him really special.
- 19:59So stoked. So just.
- 20:00Made another card extra special so there's that.
- 20:04And then my next pick up. Guys, watch my channel.
- 20:08This is all because of you, Adam.
- 20:10You know this. My entire life selling cards on
- 20:14eBay for. 20 years I learned that Mickey Mantle sold the best
- 20:17and what I would do over the course of probably.
- 20:20The after the. First like 6 years of selling
- 20:22cards on eBay I realized the only cards I can actually sell
- 20:26on eBay and not get addicted to holding them.
- 20:28Were just base cards and just standard insert cards.
- 20:33And I learned that Mickey Mantle sells across the board.
- 20:36His base cards sell for $4.00 to $5 all day long.
- 20:39So over the years I bought thousands and thousands,
- 20:42probably over 10,000 Mantle base cards.
- 20:45And what I didn't know at the time was that Tops used Mickey
- 20:51Mantle as card number 7 in. The base.
- 20:55Set the only Hall of Famer, the only retired player in their
- 20:59base set from they used them in 1996 and then they skipped some
- 21:04years. I think they didn't have his
- 21:05license and then they re got his license in 2000 and. 6 All the.
- 21:12Way to 2012 and I've been collecting all the rare cards
- 21:17that I have been selling, the base cards of all.
- 21:20These years because of you. Adam, because you were buying
- 21:24those base cards from me and I'm like, who's buying these base
- 21:27cards and you're getting them graded?
- 21:29And I'm like, it just got me thinking like, why don't I pick
- 21:32up, try and find the rare copies of these cards?
- 21:35I look, oh, I probably have fifty of these, you know, base
- 21:39cards sold. Hundreds.
- 21:40Of them, and this is the printing plate from 2011.
- 21:44And this is top. Series one, this is the magenta
- 21:48one of one. These were one in every 1500
- 21:52packs and then you have the times 1500 packs times 660 cards
- 21:58in the set. So astronomically.
- 22:01Difficult card to pull and. From one of the most famous
- 22:04sets. In baseball history, in my
- 22:06opinion, because it's got the. Trout and it's got some.
- 22:09Glorious cards in it and this is the one of one.
- 22:12This is the card that made every single card that I've been
- 22:16selling all these years, and I can't tell you guys enough how
- 22:21much the printing plates mean to me as a collector as I open
- 22:25these up. Back in the day, they blew my
- 22:28mind in the 2000s and I never thought to really collect them.
- 22:32But now as I get them, knowing the history of they created the
- 22:37original cards and there's only four of them, and not all of
- 22:40them look that good. You got to be particular on
- 22:44which ones you pick up. But some of them, just like this
- 22:47one, looks outstanding. And I'm, I'm having the time,
- 22:51absolute time of my life hunting them down.
- 22:56Yeah, they're just, to me, they're just for the bang for
- 22:58the buck and for the scarcity. I'm the only one in the world
- 23:01that can own it and it made all the other cards that exist of
- 23:06that card in that set. Just baffles my collecting.
- 23:09Brain. So yeah, I scored that just, you
- 23:12know, like last month. So yeah, that's what I got for
- 23:15you. I'm telling you man, I don't
- 23:17know if it's a coincidence or not, but you you started showing
- 23:21these printing plates on YouTube, Mickey Mantle printing
- 23:23plates. I'm starting to see more plenty
- 23:25printing plates all over the place now with on Instagram and
- 23:29some other people talking about, you know, printing plates.
- 23:31So I don't know if it's just a coincidence or not, but you're
- 23:35always ahead of the game. Yeah, First it was the centering
- 23:38and then it was the Japanese cards, and now it's the printing
- 23:42plates. I you got.
- 23:43Let me know before the next thing.
- 23:44Let me know ahead of time. I need to know about this stuff.
- 23:47I dude I I have seen a lot of printing plates lately.
- 23:52I seen a guy the other day on Instagram like he's trying to
- 23:55get all the Allen against her printing plates from 2006 I go.
- 23:58I've never seen her printing plate on Instagram for years,
- 24:02you know, or anywhere. And yeah, you're right, I don't
- 24:05think it has anything to do with.
- 24:06Me. But yeah, I've been collecting
- 24:07them for two years now, Jackie. Robinson and Mickey Mantle.
- 24:12And I'm starting to see big guys collect printing plates and I'm
- 24:15like, I'm telling you, man, like the proofs from back in the day
- 24:19were worth a fortune. You know, these are, to me
- 24:23better than proofs. I mean, these are these made the
- 24:25other cards and there's no exception to.
- 24:27It there's only four. Different colors.
- 24:29They've produced all the cards. So yeah, ultra special.
- 24:34Who knows if they're going to be worth anything more in the
- 24:36future, but as a collector, it's really special.
- 24:40So OK, all that said, let's rock'n'roll into the topic of
- 24:44the night I want to talk about. And it's not just I appeal guys.
- 24:49I know that gets beaten with a dead.
- 24:50Horse. I'm talking about stickers, so I
- 24:54know PWCC has always had stickers and you get them.
- 24:58For free if you send them cards even to this day, and they have
- 25:03to be cards worth over I think $200 to begin with.
- 25:06And they'll give you a free sticker if it's.
- 25:07Deserving. And back in the day, those cards
- 25:10would always the PWCC auctions would always deem more money.
- 25:15And I bought a lot of cards back in the day from PWCC because
- 25:18they had tons of auctions going and a lot of the ones I had had
- 25:21bought had stickers on them. I didn't realize at the time
- 25:26that's why they were going for more, but they weren't
- 25:28astronomical more. They were like 10% more than
- 25:32other auctions that would go on. But what I did back in the day
- 25:36as I get the thing and I'd RIP the sticker off the back and RIP
- 25:39the E off and I would keep the little tab so I have all the
- 25:42tabs. You know, still.
- 25:44But I just took the thing off because I go.
- 25:46That's just so dumb. I got my own eyes.
- 25:48I got all that. But what I see going on now,
- 25:52it's, it's, it feels to me like a race to buy.
- 25:57All the cards you could. Possibly buy that deserve the
- 26:00stickers because if you send us, you send a card to Mike Baker to
- 26:05get a sticker and it comes back. With a gold label and we can
- 26:08dive way into this because like they're giving gold labels out
- 26:11to PSA 10s, which to me is just the dumbest freaking thing in
- 26:14the world. But it's working on the market.
- 26:17It's tricking guys brains. PSA 10s.
- 26:21You know pretty much all look the same, right?
- 26:23There are differences, but for God's sake it's APSA 10 if you
- 26:28give it a gold label. Like how much brain power does
- 26:31it take to give? APSA 10A Gold Label.
- 26:32And APSA 9 getting gold labels like come on now we really need
- 26:37to be sending PSA. Nines and 10s to get gold labels
- 26:40well. The market's telling otherwise.
- 26:43And so I wanted to talk to you on your thoughts.
- 26:46Have we gone too far? I know I get.
- 26:50Before I'm done talking, I'm going to take a couple opinions
- 26:53that I hear all the time. A lot of guys think that it's
- 26:56like we're getting into like a sticky situation where a 4 is
- 27:04now worth more than A5 or worth as much as a six.
- 27:10I don't think it's a. Sticky situation and I don't
- 27:12think we're going backwards in any way, shape or form.
- 27:15I want to be clear to that point, I think the market is
- 27:18getting smarter and I think the people buying cards are getting
- 27:22a lot smarter. And I saw a card yesterday, it
- 27:26was a 1950. You guys can look it up on eBay
- 27:291956. Tops Hank Aaron PSA 4 It looks
- 27:34stunning. It was a full.
- 27:35It had no sticker. OK, And I thought I go I'm going
- 27:39to try and buy this card. It was at 400 bucks.
- 27:41I go. Well, I think a normal 4
- 27:43probably goes to 400 a normal 4. An everyday 4.
- 27:46So I go man if I can get this for 500 bucks I have a 5 that's
- 27:50dead centered but it didn't look as good as this 4.
- 27:52So I go, well, I'm going to look.
- 27:54You know that thing went for over $800.00 so.
- 27:58I know, I mean I don't know because I look up comps, but I
- 28:02bet you you could buy us an everyday 6 for 800.
- 28:05Dollars all day long. I don't care.
- 28:08I don't. I think that 4 was worth the
- 28:11$800. I don't care that that 4 is
- 28:14worth as much as the PSA 6. It doesn't break the system
- 28:17because we're making the system as collectors, as buyers.
- 28:20We're the ones that make the cards with more, not PSA.
- 28:23They might put the number on there, but we're the ones that
- 28:25assign the value to them as buyers.
- 28:28Somebody with using their own eyes without a sticker approved
- 28:32bought that card and how I see it is the guy bought the card.
- 28:36A Because it's beautiful. B That guy's probably going to
- 28:39send it to Greg Morris and get a gold label now.
- 28:41Next time. Does he sell that?
- 28:42He gets 1200. The thing?
- 28:44That food for thought is, you know, I always say every grade,
- 28:49so I say it's worth as much as a six, a 6A low grade, a low end 6
- 28:53on VCP. Is worth say 600.
- 28:56Bucks if you you average a high grace, say a perfect six, that
- 29:04thing is going to go over astronomically more than
- 29:07$800.00. So that's why I don't see it
- 29:09being a sticky. Situation or like we jump the
- 29:12shark. I don't see that.
- 29:14So those are. Kind of my thoughts, I have more
- 29:16but where? Where is your take with this
- 29:18whole? I appeal stickers, all that
- 29:21stuff. Well, I think.
- 29:24I've. I've kind of never I've never
- 29:26been like real negative on the stickers or posit.
- 29:30I think it's I think it's good for a couple reasons.
- 29:32One, it was always good for online shopping, right?
- 29:37Like if you're it's hard, it's hard if you're like someone who
- 29:40wants to go after I appeal cards or good for the grade cards,
- 29:45centered cards, especially with vintage, like we're talking
- 29:48about a lot. You can search I appeal sticker
- 29:52cards on some of these platforms, you know, so, but
- 29:55it's hard without something like that.
- 29:57It's hard to you have to go through every single one, which
- 29:59is takes a lot of time. So I think it is kind of a
- 30:02little hack, right? Because yes, we don't need
- 30:05people to tell us what's a good looking card.
- 30:07But if you're trying to search for one and I'll tell you I I
- 30:10haven't seen too many of those sticker cards that don't look
- 30:13like I've, I haven't come across too many of the sticker cards
- 30:15that I look at. I go that shouldn't have gotten
- 30:18a sticker. That one doesn't look nice.
- 30:19Most of them do look nice. Now the whole like top 5% versus
- 30:25top 15%. I'm not sure on that.
- 30:28Like I think they probably when they created that whole system,
- 30:32maybe they overdid it a little bit overcomplicate.
- 30:34Oh, this is got the the sticker, but it's an E on it versus an S
- 30:39like 5 percent, 15%. That a little little overboard
- 30:42for me what PWCC did and now fanatics is still doing it.
- 30:47By the way, did you know that PWCC stood for Pre War Card?
- 30:51Pre War Card Collector? I never knew that I.
- 30:54Never. I heard that the I heard that
- 30:56the other day. I was like, really?
- 30:57I had no idea about that, sorry, but the tangent, but that that
- 31:00just stuck in my head. So I think it's good from that
- 31:04perspective. Like if you're hunting really
- 31:06nice looking cards, you could search out cars that have the
- 31:09sticker. So that's always kind of cool.
- 31:12And you know, I think though it, it can be overdone, you know,
- 31:17and, and maybe that's where we're heading with a lot of this
- 31:19stuff, but I don't, I don't know, I don't really, I don't, I
- 31:24don't have a lot of negativity towards the stickers because
- 31:26again, no one's forcing people to, to send in cards to
- 31:29stickers. And they do it for free, right?
- 31:32Like PWCC, they never would charge for it.
- 31:35It's not like an extra service or anything.
- 31:36I think Mike Baker probably charges right for that stuff.
- 31:39But PWCC and now Fanatics, when you send a card into their
- 31:44vault, they'll evaluate it for free and give it a sticker.
- 31:47I've had cards that I bought that I ended up sending there
- 31:50first and they got a sticker. I didn't have to pay any more
- 31:53for it or anything. So it was cool, you know, and
- 31:56someday when I sell those cards, maybe I'll get a premium because
- 32:01of the sticker. So we'll see.
- 32:03But you shouldn't have peeled those off.
- 32:04You should have kept those on there, on those cars even.
- 32:07No, trust me, I couldn't believe it.
- 32:10Well, here's the thing. So I'm like First off.
- 32:15I think the. PwC stickers are way better than
- 32:19Mike Baker's. I love the ESI, love the
- 32:22different categories because when I do come across those
- 32:25stickers, and I do, I am a guy who will go on Fanatics site and
- 32:31click the button and look simply at the I Appeal versions.
- 32:37I have come across some that I don't think deem them, but those
- 32:40are Mike Baker's. The ones I've come across that
- 32:42don't deem them, so far I've been all Mike Baker's.
- 32:44Why? I think because they only have
- 32:463. Tiers.
- 32:48Gold, silver and a bronze I believe where I like PWCC they I
- 32:54think they have more than three tiers.
- 32:55I think they have like 4. I I like the. 15% rule a 5% to
- 32:59me, my brain wraps around. So tomato, tomato.
- 33:03You can disagree. I can agree here.
- 33:05Agree there. Here's my problem.
- 33:07Here's kind of why. I brought this up.
- 33:09So I think there's an opportunity.
- 33:13The opportunity is, I think. The I appeal thing is still
- 33:19going to continue. I think those lower grade stuffs
- 33:22continue to rise in value. The high I appeal cards are
- 33:26going to continue to increase in value.
- 33:29Over the foreseeable future, I didn't know it was going to
- 33:32happen this fast. Like when I started collecting
- 33:34like that, my time frame was like 5 to 10 years before
- 33:37collectors realized like centering is the way to go for
- 33:40tops. That's the hard thing.
- 33:42It's it's happened way faster than I thought.
- 33:46And for me as a buyer, this is what frustrates me is that like
- 33:51I see this card the other day in a 456 tops Hank that looks
- 33:56cherry with no sticker and I'm going someone just paying 800
- 34:01bucks and I don't think they got a bad deal look better than most
- 34:04sevens and eights. I see any pretty much any sevens
- 34:08and eights I see. I mean they're.
- 34:09Like sevens and eights can look really bad.
- 34:14I mean not to bring it up but I saw a mantle sell for $1,000,000
- 34:18on Instagram. The thing had a print line
- 34:21straight through the middle of the car.
- 34:23You. You.
- 34:23That was going to be my, that was going to be my Grinds my
- 34:26gears at the end. I might have to change it up now
- 34:27all. Center to all be like.
- 34:31I had a whole rant prepared for that.
- 34:33Oh my God, $1,000,000 I've seen fours.
- 34:37That look astronomically nicer to my eyeball maybe.
- 34:42A little bit of touching on the corners, but I'm not talking
- 34:46like rounded corners. Fours look perfect.
- 34:51To the eyeball like the. Corners are just like till you
- 34:54get your scope out. I thought that 8 was just like.
- 34:57I was like, oh. My gosh, $1,000,000 for an ugly
- 35:01card, I mean. Would I take it for free?
- 35:03Yeah, but I wouldn't be. Free, yeah.
- 35:05Give me, give me 120 grand. For a.
- 35:08Dead nut centered. Perfect IPO 4 all day long or
- 35:11even 200. Grand 300 so I don't, I don't.
- 35:15Think it's gone too far but me as a collector things have gone
- 35:20too far from my wallet and what's gone too far are the
- 35:24iconic cards. So me hunting.
- 35:28Like I have an example. A 1965 tops Frank Robinson.
- 35:33Dead frickin center beautiful in.
- 35:36APSA 5. New Sir, The thing looks like I
- 35:41just sent A7 to PWCC that was slightly off.
- 35:45Centered looks good. This thing looks better.
- 35:51I can still get this. I got this for $49.00.
- 35:54OK, there's no like an ugly 5 cells for $49.00, a really good
- 35:59looking 5 cells for $49.00. If I did send this in and got a
- 36:04sticker, it'd probably sell for 120. 5 or something but.
- 36:08What has changed is if I had a Mickey Mantle 1965 tops, dead
- 36:14freaking centered. It now goes from a.
- 36:18If it was a four, say it was a $700.00 card.
- 36:21Now it's a Now it's like a $1300 card.
- 36:26And so my brain is struggling to wrap my head around, not because
- 36:31I don't think it's worth that, because I don't.
- 36:33I just don't want to spend $1400 on a 1965 Cops Mickey Mantle,
- 36:39period. It isn't that I think it's not
- 36:42worth it, but I don't want to buy a six that's ugly for the
- 36:46same price at all. I would still rather.
- 36:49Pay the big money for the good looking. 4 or whatever in all
- 36:52grades. I want the best looking card but
- 36:56I'm not. I just can't wrap my head around
- 36:59now with this big gap between the big cards.
- 37:02So. I have kind of gone.
- 37:04Off the rails, off the tracks. And by me saying that I'm going
- 37:10to be sharing some cards in the future on my channel that I
- 37:14said. For.
- 37:16Forget about centering. I'm going for forget about
- 37:21centering man on these. What I just knocked off 4 cards
- 37:26on my 55 cards before I die list all for the price of one card
- 37:33that I you know, one card. I could have spent that in two
- 37:37seconds. I went completely off the rails
- 37:41because I just. Don't.
- 37:43I'm I'm having a really hard time spending the big money on
- 37:47these big iconic cards. And I really.
- 37:50Want them so there is something for me to be said just owning
- 37:54the card. I'm pulling a Chris from
- 37:55Missouri. Like give me the card.
- 37:57I still I'm going for the the best looking image on the front
- 38:02I can find for the cheapest possible price so.
- 38:06I've been saying it for a while like.
- 38:08Everyone hates me, Pumping, centering, talking about
- 38:10centering and all. They're going up.
- 38:12I'm complaining now. They're going up too fast, too
- 38:15furious. I think they have more room to.
- 38:17Run. I'm glad I bought the ones I
- 38:18did, but now I'm like I'm diverting course.
- 38:22I'm like. It's.
- 38:22Making the off center 1 so cheap on the bigger cards that I'm.
- 38:28Starting to go after those, but. Definitely still buying the ones
- 38:34that haven't. Like I just picked up a 1961
- 38:37tops. Hank Aaron dead centered in a
- 38:39four. I paid like a $25.
- 38:42Premium then a regular 4 like a mid level 4. $25 premium.
- 38:48That's no problem. I would have paid $100 premium,
- 38:52but I wouldn't have paid a $300 premium.
- 38:54I wouldn't have paid double what the cards worth in any grade so
- 38:59they haven't caught up all the. Cards aren't caught up, so I'm
- 39:01finding myself going after all the other ones that aren't big
- 39:05cards and the big ones I'm just going.
- 39:08I'm done. I'm not going to look for a dead
- 39:09centered 53 top Mickey Mantle anymore.
- 39:12I just. I'm going to find one that has a
- 39:14good image and. Just going to check the box off.
- 39:18And and that's. It so it's.
- 39:20Kind of like the, it's kind of like the PSA 10 premium, right?
- 39:24So like on the big cards, the, the very popular, high demanded
- 39:28cards, going for a centered version of that card is like
- 39:32going for APSA 10 of, of a, you know, like a modern popular
- 39:35card. It's maybe it's not worth it,
- 39:38right? And we've, we've deemed that
- 39:39for, for our collections for a lot of that with the grades.
- 39:42So, OK, I, I, I find that very interesting.
- 39:45And you you zag, you zig, you zag, now you're zigging again
- 39:49back and then you're maybe you'll zag back.
- 39:51I like that you're, you're always a step ahead.
- 39:53Dylan I. Don't know if I'm a step ahead
- 39:54or I just I'm in my own head. So let me add one more thing.
- 39:58These cards that I'm buying that are off centered with good
- 40:02images I'll show you well, I only have one and I'm going to
- 40:06do a whole video on it. I want to be clear, I actually.
- 40:09Don't think the cards that I'm buying, the iconic ones that I'm
- 40:12buying that are off centered, not my normal specimens.
- 40:16I don't think those are going to go up in value at all on a
- 40:20comparison level to the dead centered copy.
- 40:22So when I'm buying them, I'm buying them as a collector.
- 40:25I just want the freaking cards. So whereas before, you know,
- 40:29it's a marriage, right? I wanted to buy all these cards
- 40:32because I have two birds to kill.
- 40:35I want them to be worth more in the future and I and I want them
- 40:39to look beautiful and. Have the cards all together,
- 40:42well, these ones to be clear. I don't see a future where
- 40:45they're going to be worth. Any.
- 40:47More than what the actual card is worth at the time.
- 40:50So say you know I bought a 48 stand mutual leaf.
- 40:54The 49 leaf if that card itself goes up in value, this.
- 40:57Sure, this will tag along, but it's going to be tagging along
- 41:00at the. Lowest possible rate compared to
- 41:03if I found took my time, found a dead.
- 41:05Centered, perfect front, perfect back, low grade or high grade,
- 41:11any grade. Those ones to me will still
- 41:14continue to rise. I'm buying cards.
- 41:16I'm zagging without the future. Value in mind.
- 41:20I'm basing the value off of the card itself.
- 41:24If the 53 Jackie I just picked up goes up in value, it
- 41:28certainly isn't going to be because the I appeal of the one
- 41:31I purchased, it's going to be because the 53 Jackie one.
- 41:35Whereas if you buy a perfectly center 1, you take your.
- 41:38Time you spend the extra money. Those ones, to me, will continue
- 41:43to go up in value in the future and rise, rise, rise.
- 41:45I'm just not willing to pay the price on those at the moment.
- 41:51So my focus is going to be on the lower tier cards with the
- 41:55perfect eye appeal and wait for that premium.
- 41:58And like you said, you brought up the PSA 10s like you can have
- 42:03you know, a 1987 tops card of Jose Canseco and APSA 10 say
- 42:07it's worth 100 bucks and the nines worth 50 bucks.
- 42:11But say you had a a 1987 Bo Jackson and.
- 42:14APSA 10 say that's worth 300 to $500.
- 42:18I don't know, I'm just guessing. The pre and then the 9 is worth
- 42:22$30.00 The premium doesn't make sense there right because you
- 42:27you're you're getting the same quality in the Jose Canseco and
- 42:30the rarity is the same across both cards they're from the same
- 42:34set but you're paying for the Bo Jackson PSA 10 premium and
- 42:39that's what these big iconic cards too if.
- 42:41That's making sense through my words.
- 42:43If, if you're, if your goal is long term collecting, if,
- 42:49however, if you're 1, if there's a lot of people now who are
- 42:52wanting to buy cards and then sell them a couple weeks later
- 42:55and make 50 bucks or 100 bucks. In those cases, it might make
- 42:58sense to buy that PSA 10 for 400 bucks and thinking, hey, I'll be
- 43:03able to sell this for 4:50 in two weeks at a show, you know,
- 43:06Whereas if I bought APSA 9, maybe I wouldn't be able to make
- 43:0950 bucks. You know what I mean?
- 43:11So I understand, but if, if the goal is to buy cards that you
- 43:14want to hold onto for a long time, yes, absolutely.
- 43:18And I'm, I'm in the same camp as you.
- 43:19I do want to mention before we get into our rants, Dylan, you
- 43:22mentioned, I should have mentioned this earlier, but turn
- 43:25back the clock is now exclusive to the sports card clubhouse
- 43:28channel, right? We used to do it where it was
- 43:30one on my channel 1 on your channel.
- 43:33Now we're just doing clubhouse only.
- 43:35We're doing the podcast clubhouse, sports card
- 43:37clubhouse. Then we're going to be on the
- 43:39the YouTube channel, sports card clubhouse.
- 43:41We still have our own channel. So I want to mention Dylan.
- 43:44He mentioned he's going to be showing his pickups in the
- 43:45future. We have a little different
- 43:47audience over here. So if you don't already know
- 43:50about Double D Vintage Baseball Cards and subscribe, go over to
- 43:53his channel and he'll be showing you the pickups he's talking
- 43:56about here in the near future. Thank you, Adam.
- 43:59All right. What do we want to we want to do
- 44:02these grind your gears, Yeah. Let's do we got time.
- 44:05Let's do grind our gears, man. Go ahead, Adam.
- 44:08I I hope I didn't blow it for you.
- 44:10No, so here's what I think I'm going to do my grind, my gear,
- 44:12what was going to be the so there's APSA 81952 tops, Mickey
- 44:17Mantle that's just sold. So it's sold at I think it was
- 44:20Fanatics in an auction like end of September for it was like
- 44:24$1,000,000 million, something like that $1,020,000 right
- 44:30around there. And then the dealer who bought
- 44:33it then I guess sold it to another broker who brokered it
- 44:39to someone else for we don't know how much, but obviously
- 44:42it's more than that. Man.
- 44:45I when I again, you know, if the person who bought that is
- 44:49watching, probably not, but I apologize.
- 44:52But my opinion on that PSA 8 is wow, that was one of the one of
- 44:58the ugliest PSA eights I've ever seen in my life.
- 45:01Print line right through the face basically, right.
- 45:04It was like, I think it was on the face like right here, print
- 45:07line, diamond cut, not great centering at all for PSA 8.
- 45:12And again, some people don't I guess care about that.
- 45:15They're just buying that number. But I guess that I just that
- 45:19that was in my head today because I was looking at that
- 45:22card. I'm thinking I was looking at
- 45:24some other PSA eights of the of that same exact card that have
- 45:27sold, you know, APSA 8 will sell often times a couple times a
- 45:31year at auction houses, you know, and that was maybe 1 of
- 45:35the worst ones I've ever seen. And that and that sold at a
- 45:38pretty high price. Not an all time high or
- 45:40anything, but just goes to show you that people are still buying
- 45:43the grade heavily. We talked about I appeal, I
- 45:46appeal. People are paying up for I
- 45:47appeal, but there's still a big portion of the hobby that just
- 45:50pays for that number on the slab.
- 45:53Well, let's also let me also say that the hobbies learned a great
- 45:57deal has come a long way because that exact same card sold from
- 46:02what I. Heard for $1.3 million.
- 46:06Before a few years ago, so when we're in a boom right now, like
- 46:11if you if you took APSA 4. Deadnut centered and purchased
- 46:16that three years ago and you sold that today at PSA 4 has
- 46:20gone up at least 20 grand. OK, it's gone up astronomical if
- 46:26it's a. Cherry looking so.
- 46:27The hobbies, learning and these, these high grades, you know, the
- 46:31future could be different. And, and you touched on
- 46:33something that grinds my gears is like, there's a big
- 46:37difference between dealers buying cards and collectors
- 46:42buying cards. Dealers are trying to move cards
- 46:44as fast as possible. And what's moving?
- 46:46They buy the high grade because they can sell the high grade
- 46:49right away to the next blind guy that comes along.
- 46:53Yeah. And I don't think.
- 46:55That was the ugliest aid I've ever seen.
- 46:56I actually think lot eights eights are the older eights are
- 47:00notorious for print lines, notorious for off center 7 same
- 47:05thing notorious like eights. I heard it best said by.
- 47:11Carlisle I had a 8. OC like you know it was a huge 8
- 47:14OC top to bottom guy because nobody wanted that thing.
- 47:17You get them for nothing. And he goes 8 OCS are 10s off
- 47:21center. And I go, you're totally right
- 47:24and eights can be 10s off standing as well except they
- 47:28have print. Lines.
- 47:29They love the print lines. It back in the day they give
- 47:31those eights all day long all right so are you done grinding
- 47:35your gears or? Yeah, actually I have my I think
- 47:38we should do this every episode. Another grinding gear, my next
- 47:41grinding gear. I already have it in my head.
- 47:42It's gonna it's a non hobby sort of grind my gear.
- 47:45So it's I got I'm already ready for the next one.
- 47:47But yeah, you go on this one. No, no.
- 47:49Are you got? Are you ready for that?
- 47:51Yeah, I'll just go with that one for this episode.
- 47:52My next my next episode I'll I'll use my other one.
- 47:56OK, well mine kind of sticks along the same thing like.
- 48:00I nothing makes me more fired up when and and everybody does.
- 48:05Everyone says this and I just like.
- 48:07If you're an investor, if you're investing by the high grade, I'm
- 48:12so sick. I've.
- 48:14Been sick of people saying that for the since I got on YouTube.
- 48:18By the high grade. Is the best investment?
- 48:20Oh man, it is not the best investment it's been.
- 48:24It's proving itself. Right now you buy the best
- 48:27looking card in any grade. The grade means nothing.
- 48:32Whatever money you have, buy the best looking card in any grade
- 48:35and that will. Rise in the future, It's proving
- 48:39itself out right now. The best looking fours.
- 48:43I just say fours because it's kind of like those are kind of
- 48:45like cream. Like for whatever reason, fours
- 48:47and. Fives are like buttery.
- 48:49Those best looking examples. Have gone up way more than the
- 48:54high grade counterparts over the last three years.
- 48:58They absolutely have. Do I have card ladder here to
- 49:02prove it? No.
- 49:03Why? Because you can't even do that.
- 49:05You'd have to search thousands of cards to look for those dead
- 49:09nuts centered ones to see if they've gone in value.
- 49:11I know just 'cause I'm in the hobby and I watch cards sell all
- 49:15day long I can see it. So stop saying it.
- 49:18I'm sick of guys brainwashing people to say high grades are
- 49:23the only investment. Low grades can be investments to
- 49:26any grade, not even low grades. If you buy high grades by the
- 49:30best looking high grade, those will continue to rise.
- 49:33If you buy a nine, please please make sure it's dead centered.
- 49:39Everything else should be cherry.
- 49:40Just make sure it's centered. If it's not, don't touch that 9
- 49:44to the hunt for. Bolt, you know.
- 49:46If you're buying an 8, make sure it's centered.
- 49:49But didn't didn't Jeff, Mr. Jeff Wilson came out and he said he
- 49:53had all these numbers right? Like he said he had statistics
- 49:56showing that the PSA 10s go up higher or have gone up higher
- 50:02percentage wise than the other grades.
- 50:04Is that is that just for certain cards you think?
- 50:07No, I I I cannot deny the fact that high grades went up in the
- 50:11past and skyrocketed over the. Past.
- 50:15The past isn't the future. The future is different.
- 50:17In this hobby, this hobby changes a lot.
- 50:20We've gone through a lot of morphs in this hobby and.
- 50:23I appeal. I know it's been around forever.
- 50:25You guys yelling at me. I appeal.
- 50:26It's been, I think, forever. I get it, Centering strict
- 50:30centering. Eye appeal for talks has not
- 50:32been around in most. Collectors.
- 50:34Brains forever, maybe. The select few, maybe.
- 50:37But even Doctor Beckett said not too long ago in a podcast.
- 50:41This last couple months that he thinks the centering the eye
- 50:46appeal movement. Will continue to be what goes up
- 50:50the most in the future will continue to be the forefront of
- 50:53the future and those. High grade stuff, those guys
- 50:56like even me, I put myself in that category behind the
- 50:59settings back in the day. You know, that was a great move
- 51:03back in the day, but the great move today is to unload all
- 51:07those ugly high. Grade old certs right now while
- 51:10you still can. Well, that's what you're saying.
- 51:13When you were saying that, it made me think I took a
- 51:15screenshot. I'll I'll say what it says, but
- 51:18I took a screenshot on my phone of a Instagram story.
- 51:23If you don't follow MK sports cards MK sports cards on
- 51:27Instagram, I highly recommend you follow that.
- 51:30I, I think it's a guy, right? There's usually it's a guy in
- 51:32this hobby, but I don't know. I don't know the person, but I
- 51:35follow MK sport sports cards. I really enjoy the content they
- 51:39put out and this is what they posted.
- 51:43I'm going to say he, this is what he posted alert.
- 51:47If more than 75% of the value of your card is tied to the grade,
- 51:51then you should be selling that card right now.
- 51:53And he, he has been saying stuff like this for a while now where
- 51:57he, he thinks with AI coming and all this stuff that if, if the
- 52:02goal of your collecting or you're investing or whatever it
- 52:05is, if you're buying cards with the hope that they'll go up big
- 52:08time in value, at least his opinion is that don't buy great
- 52:12height. Don't, don't look at the high
- 52:13grade, right? Like only don't, don't let that
- 52:15be the deciding factor. And that's what he says.
- 52:17If more than 75% of the value of the card is just because of the
- 52:21grade, he doesn't believe that that's a card that's going to
- 52:25continue to go up, even if it has, to Jeff Wilson's point,
- 52:28maybe it has over the last period of time, doesn't mean
- 52:31it's going to in the future. It's not going to necessarily
- 52:34repeat itself. Maybe.
- 52:35So I I thought of that. Mangini, I got to give credit to
- 52:39Drama Mangini because, you know, I think for me he was the first
- 52:43one that I heard say that the value should be in the card
- 52:46itself, right? That's where the value should be
- 52:48in our cards. And I know the.
- 52:50Modern hobby is learning that learned that during that last
- 52:55you know, the big the crash we had, you know, they they learned
- 52:59that these these common base cards and 10s aren't the way to
- 53:02go. The value should be in the card
- 53:04itself, should be in the low number, should be in the good
- 53:06looking vintage. Well said by that guy and and
- 53:10it's going to continue that way. And anyone beating the drum in
- 53:13the opposite. Direction.
- 53:14Have at it. I think that drums going to be
- 53:16beat and broken before this, you know, in the next 10 years.
- 53:20And I I. Still want to just say that the
- 53:22good? Looking high, grades are
- 53:23continued. To hold their ground and they're
- 53:25not going to go to 0 just by by the good looking example in any
- 53:29grade. Last thing I know we're coming
- 53:31to an hour here, Adam. I want to make sure, again, to
- 53:34clarify, these are our opinions. These are our thoughts.
- 53:38If you disagree, put them in the comments.
- 53:40If you disagree, you, you have your own brain.
- 53:44Use it. You go after the cards you want,
- 53:47go after that stuff you want. If you want to go after the high
- 53:50grades and completely disagree with me, it's fantastic that
- 53:54it's your prerogative, but I'm on here, Adam's on here
- 53:57expressing our own opinions because that's what we have in
- 54:00this hobby and that's what makes it fun and.
- 54:02Whether we're right or wrong in the.
- 54:03Future. The future is going to tell us.
- 54:05So there's our caveat and my want to add to this.
- 54:09My last, my last thing I want to say is if you, if you're
- 54:11catching this on the sports card clubhouse on YouTube and you'd
- 54:14like to be able to watch or listen to it a few days ahead of
- 54:18time. Go make sure you go to Spotify
- 54:21or Apple and download, subscribe, follow the Sports
- 54:25card Clubhouse podcast because all our episodes and every other
- 54:30episode that goes out on that feed, it goes out there first
- 54:34before it goes out on YouTube. So that's it guys.
- 54:37I appreciate it. OK, we'll catch you guys later.
- 54:42You.
