- 0:57Speaker 1: Glad to have you with us for a new week
- 1:00Speaker 1: of broadcasting excellence. This portion of the program is brought
- 1:04Speaker 1: to you by Central Texas Sports Medicine. We're going to
- 1:07Speaker 1: jump out right to the Polaris Fun Center phone line
- 1:09Speaker 1: because we have an announcement that is not only going
- 1:12Speaker 1: to thrill sports fans everywhere, it's going to thrill all
- 1:17Speaker 1: fans who travel all over the South and Southeast. We
- 1:21Speaker 1: have the mayor of Brian Bobby Gutierrez.
- 1:24Speaker 4: Mayor, how are you?
- 1:26Speaker 5: You know, I don't think I've been better in a long.
- 1:30Speaker 6: Time.
- 1:31Speaker 5: You know, friendships, relationships matter. You know, you never discount anybody.
- 1:36Speaker 5: that you met, whether it be in college or after
- 1:38Speaker 5: college or whatever else. But these are things that truly,
- 1:40Speaker 5: you know, meaningful, and they happen.
- 1:44Speaker 1: So I'm going to let you announce this exciting news
- 1:49Speaker 1: for the city of Bryan this afternoon.
- 1:52Speaker 5: Well, I'll just tell you, because it just happened a
- 1:54Speaker 5: second ago. You know, Waffle House just submitted plans for
- 1:58Speaker 5: a new location in Bryan. The city of Bryan, we're
- 2:00Speaker 5: excited that Waffle House submitted plans today, Monday, October 22nd.
- 2:05Speaker 5: to develop a Waffle House location at Rutter's Landing, the
- 2:08Speaker 5: commercial development in West Bryan at the intersection of West
- 2:12Speaker 5: Villa Maria and Harvey Mitchell Parkway. And that's where the
- 2:16Speaker 5: new Walmart is on the west side of town. That
- 2:18Speaker 5: development over there is where, like I said, they submitted
- 2:22Speaker 5: their plans today. We have to review those plans. I
- 2:26Speaker 5: know my staff is as excited as I am, so
- 2:29Speaker 5: I can't even think. of a plan that will probably
- 2:33Speaker 5: go through easier and faster than this one here. But,
- 2:35Speaker 5: you know, providing meets all the requirements we need, you know,
- 2:37Speaker 5: we'll get this thing through. Our staff and, you know,
- 2:39Speaker 5: the people here work very, very hard. Woffa House has
- 2:42Speaker 5: been amazing to work with. I'm telling you, you know,
- 2:46Speaker 5: the beloved Georgia company is coming to Bryan, you know,
- 2:50Speaker 5: for the first, you know, Bryan Call Station. We're getting
- 2:52Speaker 5: this for the first time ever. The closest area we
- 2:55Speaker 5: have now is either Conroe or Cypress, and that's 70
- 2:58Speaker 5: miles away.
- 2:58Speaker 7: So.
- 3:00Speaker 5: We're just we're really excited about this. I mean, I'm
- 3:04Speaker 5: just telling you, it is it. You know, all the
- 3:07Speaker 5: things we work on, this is the thing that makes
- 3:10Speaker 5: people happy. This is the thing that people have been
- 3:12Speaker 5: asking about and begging for and saying, why can't we
- 3:14Speaker 5: get this thing done? And and here we are. We're
- 3:17Speaker 5: at those crossroads now. So we're we're excited.
- 3:21Speaker 4: How long have these negotiations been going on, Bobby?
- 3:25Speaker 5: You know, I think I did a soft introduction a
- 3:28Speaker 5: while back on the morning show, a while back. But
- 3:31Speaker 5: it was through a friend of mine that we were
- 3:34Speaker 5: in college together. She called me up out of the
- 3:37Speaker 5: blue and she goes, Bobby, do you know anybody I
- 3:38Speaker 5: took a new role in? She was up in Virginia.
- 3:42Speaker 5: She took a new role in doing market development for
- 3:45Speaker 5: Waffle Houses. She goes, I know you know everybody in Texas.
- 3:48Speaker 5: If you know anybody who's looking for anything... would you
- 3:51Speaker 5: please just send them my direction? And I'm like, well, yeah,
- 3:54Speaker 5: we are. We're looking for them. We're trying to find that.
- 3:57Speaker 5: We've been trying to get a Waffle House here for
- 4:00Speaker 5: decades now, and that's where it started. And what they
- 4:04Speaker 5: told us is they needed to have a supply chain issue.
- 4:07Speaker 5: They needed six of those in a row, so immediately
- 4:10Speaker 5: had us contacted. So I got in contact with the person,
- 4:13Speaker 5: and then, of course, it goes to Kevin Russell and
- 4:16Speaker 5: Todd McDaniel in my office, and you know, we start
- 4:20Speaker 5: working on it, but personally working on it, all of
- 4:23Speaker 5: us here, because it is, you know, I don't think
- 4:26Speaker 5: you can open up anything, any social media. And if
- 4:30Speaker 5: anybody asks, what do you want here? It's not in
- 4:32Speaker 5: the top two or three things. If it's not number one,
- 4:34Speaker 5: it's number two. If it's not number two, it's number three. Uh,
- 4:37Speaker 5: so we have actively been working on this. They, like
- 4:41Speaker 5: I said, and hopefully we'll, we'll be announcing another one
- 4:44Speaker 5: and maybe even another one pretty soon. We just got
- 4:46Speaker 5: both of them do their process and got through their
- 4:48Speaker 5: due diligence and, These things never happen as fast as
- 4:51Speaker 5: we want them to happen, but they're happening now.
- 4:55Speaker 1: So, everybody has to know when will we be able
- 4:59Speaker 1: to walk in the door and order waffles at 3 a.m.
- 5:04Speaker 5: Well, you know, that's going to be on their timeline.
- 5:06Speaker 5: They've got to finish up. Of course, you have sites.
- 5:08Speaker 5: You have the site deal and you have the manufacturing.
- 5:12Speaker 5: They have to figure out when they're going to start
- 5:14Speaker 5: and everything else, but right now, let's just enjoy that
- 5:16Speaker 5: we're getting one. Let's just enjoy that we're at that
- 5:19Speaker 5: thing and Don't want to rush them. Don't want to
- 5:21Speaker 5: push them. Don't want to scare them off. Want to
- 5:23Speaker 5: make sure that the community is supportive of them. I
- 5:25Speaker 5: would love for everybody not only to show them how
- 5:28Speaker 5: much we want one, but show how much we love
- 5:30Speaker 5: and we're just excited that they're going to be here
- 5:32Speaker 5: and be part of the Brian, you know, Brian Call Station,
- 5:35Speaker 5: Texas A & M, all of us there. You know,
- 5:37Speaker 5: it's one team and truly we are winning as one
- 5:40Speaker 5: team and they saw the need. When I told them
- 5:44Speaker 5: about you know, how much we wanted one here. They looked,
- 5:47Speaker 5: they were just like, guys, you don't understand. Just Google
- 5:50Speaker 5: Waffle House, Brian Call Station, and see what this means.
- 5:54Speaker 5: And the excitement is theirs as much as the excitement
- 5:56Speaker 5: is ours. I don't want to take anything away from
- 5:58Speaker 5: them because they deserve to know that everybody is excited
- 6:03Speaker 5: and is loving that they're going to be here.
- 6:05Speaker 4: Well, I'll tell you what I'm going to do.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I'm going to ask my six listeners to at them
- 6:09Speaker 1: on social media and let them know how excited they
- 6:12Speaker 1: are to get a Waffle House here in town.
- 6:16Speaker 5: Well, you know, I'm telling you, every time I go
- 6:18Speaker 5: into WTAW when I do my little mayor's thing, I'm
- 6:21Speaker 5: there with Tucker and with Will, and I always, you know,
- 6:25Speaker 5: they're drinking out of a Woff House cup.
- 6:27Speaker 8: And they're sending me stuff.
- 6:27Speaker 4: I was like, when are we going to do this?
- 6:29Speaker 5: Well, it's like any day now, any day now, any
- 6:30Speaker 5: day now. I said, I can't get ahead of it.
- 6:32Speaker 5: And they wanted me to sign an NDA. And the
- 6:36Speaker 5: gentleman who was there was like, there's no way you're
- 6:39Speaker 5: going to get the mayor to sign an NDA on
- 6:41Speaker 5: the Woff House. That's the most most thing to happen. But,
- 6:44Speaker 5: you know, truly... the amount of excitement that we're having here,
- 6:49Speaker 5: you know, for something like this. And it's just, it
- 6:52Speaker 5: is incredible.
- 6:53Speaker 4: Well, I can't thank you enough.
- 6:54Speaker 1: I know it's, it's hectic. I know every day is
- 6:56Speaker 1: hectic today's especially. So, so I really appreciate you coming
- 7:00Speaker 1: on and doing that. And, uh, I'm, I'm glad to
- 7:03Speaker 1: know somebody who knows somebody so I could call in
- 7:06Speaker 1: my order ahead of time.
- 7:08Speaker 8: Well, there you go.
- 7:09Speaker 5: So that's what we can, we can do. So maybe
- 7:11Speaker 5: they're going to have like the mayor special on there
- 7:13Speaker 5: or something like that. It was, uh, And it's so
- 7:16Speaker 5: funny because when I talked about that and I said, look,
- 7:19Speaker 5: we've got to find six locations, you wouldn't believe how
- 7:21Speaker 5: many mayors from around the area called up and said,
- 7:24Speaker 5: we want one, we want one, we want one, and
- 7:28Speaker 5: supplied those names to them. But they committed that they
- 7:31Speaker 5: would do Brian first, and that's what they're doing. And,
- 7:34Speaker 5: you know, everything is still on the table. It's really,
- 7:38Speaker 5: really amazing. So we're pretty excited.
- 7:41Speaker 4: I think a.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Sports talk special. I'm going to put one of those together,
- 7:45Speaker 1: two of my favorite items. So that might work too.
- 7:48Speaker 5: Well, it is a, it is a happy day in
- 7:52Speaker 5: the Brazos Valley and Brazos County, Brian call station and
- 7:55Speaker 5: texting them that we can announce something so fun. And
- 7:59Speaker 5: you know, it's the little things. I mean, it truly is.
- 8:02Speaker 5: It's the little things that matter that make a difference. And,
- 8:04Speaker 5: you know, we, we do big projects all the time, but,
- 8:08Speaker 5: They don't necessarily change everybody's life or have an impact
- 8:11Speaker 5: on everybody's life. This is a thing that kind of
- 8:13Speaker 5: the whole community can get around and enjoy, and we're
- 8:15Speaker 5: very excited about that. We just want to make sure
- 8:17Speaker 5: that we as a community make sure we give them
- 8:21Speaker 5: the best welcome that they can ever expect from anywhere.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Mayor Bobby Gutierrez on the show. Again, Mayor, thank you
- 8:28Speaker 1: so much for your time today, and congratulations.
- 8:32Speaker 5: It is my 100% honor. Promises made, promises kept.
- 8:36Speaker 9: I did it.
- 8:37Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 8:39Speaker 6: We did it.
- 8:39Speaker 5: Our team did it here.
- 8:40Speaker 4: There you go. That's mayor Bobby Gutierrez with us.
- 8:44Speaker 1: And, uh, now we're, uh, Texas A & M is
- 8:47Speaker 1: an official member of the SEC.
- 8:50Speaker 5: Exactly.
- 8:51Speaker 10: Exactly.
- 8:52Speaker 4: Thank you, sir.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Okay.
- 8:54Speaker 11: Thank you.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Have a great afternoon.
- 8:55Speaker 4: You too. Uh, all right, there you go. What an
- 8:58Speaker 4: exciting announcement. We got the waffle house coming.
- 9:01Speaker 1: So again, uh, uh, I know it's been like 12, 14.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Years now, but now A & M can say they're.
- 9:12Speaker 1: An official member of the SEC with a waffle house
- 9:16Speaker 1: coming to Bryan. Thanks to the mayor for coming on
- 9:19Speaker 1: and doing that. Welcome in.
- 9:21Speaker 4: I like to start the show like that. That's pretty fun.
- 9:25Speaker 1: This portion of the program brought to you by Central
- 9:28Speaker 1: Texas Sports Medicine.
- 9:29Speaker 7: Coming up.
- 9:31Speaker 1: We're going to hear from Mike Elko, postgame Alabama, and
- 9:33Speaker 1: Marcel Reed. We're going to hear from Bucky. The Aggie
- 9:37Speaker 1: basketball team played basketball yesterday. There was a little football
- 9:42Speaker 1: thrown in, too. We're going to hear from Kalen DeBoer
- 9:46Speaker 1: of Texas A & M. And in the second hour,
- 9:49Speaker 1: we have got the Writers' Roundtable. Cease and Rusty will
- 9:53Speaker 1: be here. It is Overreaction Monday. We always enjoy that,
- 9:58Speaker 1: so we've got that going on. Kickoff time for the
- 10:02Speaker 1: A & M South Carolina game, November 7th, has been
- 10:05Speaker 1: announced for 2 o'clock on ESPN. The Aggies, of course,
- 10:11Speaker 1: off this week after the 31-21 loss in Tuscaloosa on Saturday.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Also on the schedule, 11 a.m., Texas, Missouri will be either.
- 10:27Speaker 4: On ESPN or the SEC. No, on ABC. 11.45, Arkansas-Auburn.
- 10:38Speaker 1: I said A & M- South Carolina at 2.
- 10:41Speaker 4: At 2.30, Alabama-LSU.
- 10:44Speaker 1: That's not the night game, but the night game on
- 10:47Speaker 1: ABC is going to Georgia and Ole Miss.
- 10:51Speaker 4: Also, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State will.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Play at 315, at 515 Kentucky and Tennessee, and at
- 11:02Speaker 1: 645 on the SEC Network, Oklahoma and Florida. Now, BYU
- 11:08Speaker 1: and Utah will play the Holy War. That's going to
- 11:11Speaker 1: be a big one this year, right? Nationally ranked. Well,
- 11:17Speaker 1: here's the deal. It's going to be a 10 a.m.
- 11:20Speaker 4: Kickoff. I'm not kidding. A 10 a.m. kickoff. It'll be
- 11:27Speaker 4: either on ABC or ESPN.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Over the weekend, Baylor fired Dave Aranda after losing to Kansas.
- 11:38Speaker 4: The Bears are 4-3. Aranda is 40-40 since winning, well,
- 11:44Speaker 4: since coming to Baylor.
- 11:45Speaker 1: He won the Big 12 title in 2021 and won
- 11:48Speaker 1: the Sugar Bowl. Robert Griffin III, RG3, the Heisman-winning quarterback,
- 11:56Speaker 1: has thrown his name in the hat to succeed Aranda.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Texas All-American offensive tackle Trevor Goosby, according to ESPN, is
- 12:07Speaker 1: out for the rest of the season. Goosby projected as
- 12:11Speaker 1: a first-round NFL draft pick was the highest-graded NFL A
- 12:17Speaker 1: & M offensive lineman this season.
- 12:19Speaker 4: According to Pro Football Focus.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Ole Miss All-American running back Kiwan Lacy won't be available Saturday.
- 12:27Speaker 1: He dislocated his shoulder in the loss to Texas over
- 12:32Speaker 1: the weekend. Lacy had had a different shoulder injury that
- 12:36Speaker 1: caused him to miss time earlier in the season. He's
- 12:41Speaker 1: rushed for 388 yards and five scores in a limited
- 12:45Speaker 1: role because of injuries this year. Miami is still number
- 12:50Speaker 1: one in the nation, according to the Associated Press poll.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Ohio State, Georgia, Indiana, Notre Dame, the top five.
- 12:59Speaker 4: Utah is six. BYU is eight.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Kentucky, Alabama, Texas, Ole Miss are nine through 12. Texas
- 13:09Speaker 1: Tech falls five. is up to 13, no, falls to
- 13:13Speaker 1: 13 after losing. LSU is 15, Tennessee is 16, Florida
- 13:20Speaker 1: is 17, Houston falls four spots to 18, SMU up
- 13:25Speaker 1: four to 19, Missouri is at 23, and Oklahoma State
- 13:31Speaker 1: is new in the poll at 24.
- 13:34Speaker 4: World Series tonight.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Have you forgotten there's a World Series going on I
- 13:39Speaker 1: think a lot of people have, but the Milwaukee Brewers
- 13:42Speaker 1: lead Tampa two games to none. Freddy Peralta will try
- 13:46Speaker 1: to get a win for the homestanding Rays tonight, game
- 13:50Speaker 1: three at the Trop. The Aggie basketball team played an
- 13:56Speaker 1: exhibition in Dallas yesterday. I was there for part of it.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I'll talk to you about that coming up. A &
- 14:03Speaker 1: M lost to SMU 94-88. You would think that the
- 14:09Speaker 1: officials were in mid-season form yesterday. Why?
- 14:16Speaker 4: This is not a typo, okay?
- 14:19Speaker 3: I'm not.
- 14:20Speaker 4: I'm not kidding about any of this.
- 14:24Speaker 1: There were 58 fouls shot, and there were 94 free
- 14:32Speaker 1: throws shot.
- 14:34Speaker 4: Did you hear what I said?
- 14:35Speaker 1: 94 free throws attempted in the game yesterday.
- 14:43Speaker 4: It was not pretty.
- 14:48Speaker 7: It is.
- 14:50Speaker 1: And for the part of the game that I watched,
- 14:55Speaker 1: they probably could have called some more fouls. I mean,
- 15:01Speaker 1: there were uncalled fouls. Now, there's always fouls called that
- 15:06Speaker 1: you think, hey, let them play. But 94 free throws.
- 15:13Speaker 1: That seems to be a lot to me. That seems
- 15:16Speaker 1: to be a whole lot to me.
- 15:21Speaker 4: Okay?
- 15:24Speaker 1: I hope that the officials, that was an exhibition game
- 15:27Speaker 1: for them too. And remind me, we want to talk
- 15:32Speaker 1: about officiating in the SEC football because.
- 15:37Speaker 4: Holy moly. And it's bad everywhere. I know that. But
- 15:43Speaker 4: it just seems to be worse. It just means more
- 15:45Speaker 4: in the SEC. You know what I'm saying?
- 15:48Speaker 1: Um, Since we weren't here yesterday, this anniversary may have
- 15:56Speaker 1: gone unnoticed. But in 1999, October 25th, a private jet
- 16:03Speaker 1: carrying Payne Stewart flew across half the country with everyone
- 16:09Speaker 1: on board unconscious until it ran out of fuel and
- 16:12Speaker 1: crashed in a field in South Dakota. Stewart had won
- 16:17Speaker 1: the U.S. Open earlier in the year. He had helped
- 16:21Speaker 1: the U.S. win the Ryder Cup. He took off from Orlando,
- 16:26Speaker 1: headed for a business meeting in Dallas. Shortly afterward, the
- 16:31Speaker 1: private jet lost cabin pressure. When the plane stopped responding
- 16:37Speaker 1: to air traffic controllers, the Air Force sent fighter jets
- 16:40Speaker 1: to check on it. The pilots could see the windows
- 16:43Speaker 1: frosted over with no movement inside. They had talked about
- 16:47Speaker 1: shooting the jet down. It kept flying on autopilot for
- 16:52Speaker 1: four hours, drifted across the country. The whole nation was watching.
- 16:59Speaker 1: It ran out of fuel and crashed in South Dakota.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Payne Stewart was 42 at the time. Man, I remember,
- 17:08Speaker 1: I can't believe it's been 27 years since that happened.
- 17:16Speaker 4: It's one of those, it's just one of those touchstone moments.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Historical events that you go, yeah, I remember exactly what
- 17:24Speaker 1: was going on when I first saw that.
- 17:27Speaker 13: Okay.
- 17:30Speaker 1: I've got lots of tweets and text messages saying it's
- 17:36Speaker 1: the biggest news I've ever broken.
- 17:41Speaker 4: You know, I don't know if that's a compliment or not.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Again, our thanks to the mayor of Bryant for coming
- 17:50Speaker 1: on and letting us know we're getting a Waffle House.
- 17:52Speaker 4: All right, we're going to take a break.
- 17:54Speaker 1: This portion of the program is brought to you by

- 19:50Speaker 1: On musician, Texas singer-songwriter Stephen Frumholtz is called The Man
- 19:55Speaker 1: in the Big Hat.
- 19:56Speaker 4: It was debuted... at South by Southwest.
- 20:06Speaker 1: It was here on the A & M campus with
- 20:09Speaker 1: Lyle Lovett when we went to see it. It's been
- 20:14Speaker 1: six or eight weeks ago, probably longer, time flies, but
- 20:19Speaker 1: probably eight weeks ago at least, and got to visit
- 20:24Speaker 1: with Austin. It is a terrific documentary, and it's being
- 20:32Speaker 1: previewed all over. It's been at the Nashville Film Festival.
- 20:36Speaker 1: It's been in Indiana. It's been in a lot of
- 20:39Speaker 1: different places. And we're going to have the director, the writer,
- 20:45Speaker 1: the producer, Austin Sayre, put this together. He spent like
- 20:49Speaker 1: seven years of his life putting this thing together. And
- 20:52Speaker 1: I will visit with him on the show tomorrow. I'm
- 20:56Speaker 1: really looking forward to that. It is just a terrific documentary.
- 21:01Speaker 1: He got interested when I told him, you know what,
- 21:05Speaker 1: I'm old enough to have seen Stephen from Holts in person.
- 21:09Speaker 4: And I did. I saw him in Austin several times.
- 21:14Speaker 1: He did write the song The Man in the Big
- 21:17Speaker 1: Hat that Jerry Jeff kind of made famous, honestly.
- 21:22Speaker 4: He wrote the Texas Trilogy.
- 21:24Speaker 1: He wrote so many terrific songs and just was on
- 21:30Speaker 1: the verge of superstardom. And that's a story in and
- 21:34Speaker 1: of itself. I'll let Austin Sayre talk about all of
- 21:37Speaker 1: that tomorrow. He will join us on the program tomorrow.
- 21:40Speaker 1: We will have also our high school report that Caleb
- 21:45Speaker 1: usually does.
- 21:47Speaker 4: And we might talk just a little SEC.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Basketball tomorrow since this is an off week for Aggie football.
- 21:55Speaker 1: We got a text this morning saying, hey, Coach Elko
- 22:01Speaker 1: ain't available this week. No one from Texas A &
- 22:04Speaker 1: M football is available this week.
- 22:07Speaker 8: Sorry.
- 22:08Speaker 4: And which is, you know, a shame. I wish it.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Wasn't the case, but it is. So, anyway, obviously the
- 22:19Speaker 1: Aggies are off this week. They probably need a week off.
- 22:27Speaker 1: I tell you, everyone needs a week off this time
- 22:29Speaker 1: of year in the SEC. So, we may use some
- 22:34Speaker 1: of that open time to visit a little bit about basketball,
- 22:38Speaker 1: which is starting, as I mentioned. I was up at
- 22:41Speaker 1: Moody Coliseum yesterday. And I'll talk about that a little
- 22:46Speaker 1: bit more because we're going to hear from Bucky at
- 22:48Speaker 1: the bottom of the hour. All right, let's hear Mike
- 22:52Speaker 1: Elko's post-game comments from Saturday in Tuscaloosa.
- 22:57Speaker 13: I mean, I think the story on offense obviously is
- 23:00Speaker 13: the start, you know, the two turnovers leading directly to
- 23:03Speaker 13: seven points.
- 23:04Speaker 7: You know, put.
- 23:06Speaker 13: It together for a little while after that and then
- 23:08Speaker 13: just really couldn't get anything going. in the second half
- 23:12Speaker 13: and then got to a point again where we were
- 23:13Speaker 13: down and trying to chase a game and that's not
- 23:16Speaker 13: we're not built to do that and that's on me
- 23:19Speaker 13: as a coach we're just we're not where we need
- 23:21Speaker 13: to be at all in that regard and so defensively
- 23:25Speaker 13: just extremely poor play in the secondary extremely poor eye
- 23:28Speaker 13: discipline extremely poor all of it too many explosive plays
- 23:34Speaker 13: too many uncontested explosive plays and so that was the
- 23:36Speaker 13: story of the game so from there we'll open up
- 23:38Speaker 13: to questions yeah we weren't we didn't call a play
- 23:47Speaker 13: um i don't know why we snapped the ball we
- 23:50Speaker 13: were trying to draw them off sides and the center
- 23:52Speaker 13: just snapped the ball um no i didn't think about
- 23:59Speaker 13: taking the time out i thought we've run that play
- 24:01Speaker 13: a bunch over three years here um I don't have
- 24:05Speaker 13: a great explanation. I need to have one. It's my
- 24:07Speaker 13: job to have one. I don't have a great explanation.
- 24:09Speaker 13: It's a three-year starter at center, and he snapped the
- 24:11Speaker 13: ball in a play that we didn't even call. Yeah,
- 24:21Speaker 13: he got banged up, so he got leg whipped, and
- 24:23Speaker 13: so he was trying to fight through it. We got
- 24:25Speaker 13: him back a little bit in the second half, but
- 24:28Speaker 13: he had a deep contusion that we were trying to
- 24:29Speaker 13: work out and just couldn't get worked out, and so, yeah,
- 24:32Speaker 13: that wasn't Obviously, he's our back, and we went with him,
- 24:35Speaker 13: and he was running really well. At some point, I
- 24:38Speaker 13: think it was towards the end of the first half,
- 24:40Speaker 13: if I remember right, he got leg-whipped on a run,
- 24:42Speaker 13: and he just couldn't get it loose. Where are we talking?
- 24:56Speaker 13: Oh yeah, I just felt like we had a better shot.
- 24:58Speaker 13: At that point we were really stopping the run and
- 25:01Speaker 13: Marcel had just gotten walloped and it just felt like
- 25:03Speaker 13: we had a better shot of going out, trying to
- 25:07Speaker 13: stop him, call the timeout and go than we did
- 25:09Speaker 13: converting with how we were holding up and protecting at
- 25:12Speaker 13: that point. It just didn't seem like we were in
- 25:14Speaker 13: a position to convert that.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Mike, you talked about.
- 25:17Speaker 3: The tough start.
- 25:19Speaker 7: How were you all able to get it turned around on.
- 25:20Speaker 3: Offense there for a couple quarters?
- 25:23Speaker 13: Yeah, I just kept fighting, kept competing. I thought we
- 25:25Speaker 13: had a good plan. When we executed it, I thought
- 25:29Speaker 13: we were able to get going a little bit. Again,
- 25:31Speaker 13: they made adjustments in the second half, and I don't
- 25:34Speaker 13: think we did a good enough job on our end
- 25:35Speaker 13: making adjustments.
- 25:36Speaker 16: It looked like Brady was warming up after that second interception.
- 25:39Speaker 7: Was there any thought about.
- 25:40Speaker 3: Going to him at all?
- 25:41Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely.
- 25:42Speaker 13: There was for sure a thought. Obviously, it couldn't continue
- 25:45Speaker 13: to go that way, and so we were ready to
- 25:48Speaker 13: do that, and then Marcel obviously went back out and
- 25:50Speaker 13: played probably his best football for the rest of the
- 25:53Speaker 13: first half, and so that was good to see.
- 25:55Speaker 14: We'll go to the back right, Tyler.
- 25:56Speaker 8: Mike, just on that, what gave you confidence.
- 26:00Speaker 13: To stick with Marcel in that moment? I still believe
- 26:05Speaker 13: he's our best option. And so that's kind of where
- 26:08Speaker 13: that's at.
- 26:09Speaker 15: We'll go to Colton on the right.
- 26:15Speaker 13: Yeah, just really poor decision-making. Yeah, you know, it's hard
- 26:23Speaker 13: to say because he's an elite receiver. He's phenomenal. You know,
- 26:28Speaker 13: for us to let him get as loose as he
- 26:30Speaker 13: did and have so many uncontested yards is very disappointing.
- 26:36Speaker 17: Go to Travis right next to him.
- 26:37Speaker 18: It seemed like early in the game a lot of
- 26:40Speaker 18: quick passing.
- 26:41Speaker 4: Was the quick passing game kind of the idea of
- 26:43Speaker 4: coming into this one?
- 26:44Speaker 8: How much did they play in the interceptions and then.
- 26:48Speaker 13: Also getting back in? Yeah, a lot of those I
- 26:50Speaker 13: think were RPOs. And so I think a lot of
- 26:52Speaker 13: those were RPOs. And, you know, just with the way
- 26:56Speaker 13: they were playing them, a lot of them got into
- 26:58Speaker 13: throw situations. And so I don't know that we were
- 27:00Speaker 13: necessarily calling a lot of quick. They were quick passes, obviously,
- 27:03Speaker 13: but I don't think we were calling a lot of
- 27:05Speaker 13: drop-back quick passes. The interception on the first play, the
- 27:11Speaker 13: first of pick six, that was a drop-back pass, and
- 27:13Speaker 13: that was just a misread and a bad throw by
- 27:15Speaker 13: the quarterback.
- 27:15Speaker 9: We'll go right to the center.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Peter?
- 27:18Speaker 18: Talking about the secondary, the back of eyes, the eye contact,
- 27:23Speaker 18: how was it for you?
- 27:28Speaker 8: How was it for you?
- 27:30Speaker 13: Yeah, we have to be able to execute what we
- 27:33Speaker 13: call to even be able to answer that question. And
- 27:35Speaker 13: so we just didn't do a good enough job. We
- 27:38Speaker 13: didn't cover him well enough at all.
- 27:41Speaker 3: We'll go over to Alex.
- 27:42Speaker 8: Mike, what's going to be the priority of going into
- 27:44Speaker 8: the fire week? What do you guys are going to decide.
- 27:46Speaker 12: Going into this long stretch?
- 27:48Speaker 13: Yeah, I mean, it's two things. One, we have to
- 27:50Speaker 13: get a lot better. We have to get a lot
- 27:52Speaker 13: better as a football team. That's the obvious of all
- 27:54Speaker 13: obvious statements that I could make. And two, we've got
- 27:57Speaker 13: to have some pride. We've got to have some pride
- 27:58Speaker 13: in who we are. who we play for, the university
- 28:01Speaker 13: that we represent, the fan base that we represent. And
- 28:04Speaker 13: we've got to go finish November with some pride about
- 28:06Speaker 13: who we represent and how we do it.
- 28:08Speaker 14: We'll go back over to Tyler in the back.
- 28:09Speaker 16: Did you think the physicality.
- 28:13Speaker 13: Was better than the last couple of games?
- 28:15Speaker 9: Yeah, for sure.
- 28:16Speaker 13: I thought from a physical standpoint, you know, that was
- 28:19Speaker 13: something that we really tried to emphasize. I do think
- 28:22Speaker 13: that that part held up. but again, you know, just
- 28:26Speaker 13: the turnovers and the lack of execution just killed the
- 28:29Speaker 13: whole day.
- 28:29Speaker 19: Anything else for Coach Travis?
- 28:32Speaker 10: It seemed like the little force in the offense was
- 28:35Speaker 10: moving us good as it had.
- 28:36Speaker 7: You know, through the season.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Is it more frustrating, less frustrating that it ended up
- 28:40Speaker 1: the way it did and you weren't able to beat
- 28:42Speaker 1: the ball the.
- 28:43Speaker 13: Way you did? I mean, I don't know that anything
- 28:46Speaker 13: makes it any lesser or more. It's extremely frustrating. The
- 28:49Speaker 13: product that we are putting out on the field, this university,
- 28:51Speaker 13: this fan base deserves so much better, and so it's
- 28:54Speaker 13: Regardless of how, it's extremely frustrating.
- 28:58Speaker 1: That's the, you know, Mike Elko is not a good loser.
- 29:07Speaker 1: And you don't want a good loser, right? He is
- 29:12Speaker 1: like biting his lip for seven minutes. We have heard,
- 29:18Speaker 1: you know, other things he has said that probably he
- 29:21Speaker 1: wished he could bring back. After losses, you don't want
- 29:26Speaker 1: to have lots of experience after losses, but that's where
- 29:31Speaker 1: we are right now.
- 29:32Speaker 4: I've got more breaking news. The University of North Texas.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Is closing its campus afternoon on Thursday, canceling classes in
- 29:49Speaker 1: order for the Mean Green to prepare for their Thursday
- 29:53Speaker 1: night nationally televised game against Florida Atlantic. Posted on X,
- 30:01Speaker 1: a message from the president. The school alerted students that
- 30:05Speaker 1: classes at the Denton campus scheduled to begin at noon
- 30:10Speaker 1: or later Thursday have been canceled. While encouraging students to
- 30:15Speaker 1: come early, enjoy Mean Green Live and student tailgating at
- 30:21Speaker 1: the DATCU Stadium. Don't tell me football is not important
- 30:28Speaker 1: in North Texas. They're canceling classes.
- 30:34Speaker 4: Okay.
- 30:36Speaker 1: We're going to take a break. We're going to come
- 30:39Speaker 1: back and do something completely different. Basketball a little bit
- 30:44Speaker 1: from yesterday. I want to send you over to see
- 30:49Speaker 1: my friends at Galleria. They've won every best of award

- 31:34Speaker 1: They're at jewelry, home decor, you know, guys, gift certificates,
- 31:43Speaker 1: gift certificates, just like out of the blue, just because.
- 31:48Speaker 1: You don't even have to mention my name if you
- 31:50Speaker 1: don't want to.
- 31:51Speaker 4: That's fine.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Rhonda and the people at Galleria know that I send

- 32:05Speaker 1: like you thought of it yourself and went to a

- 34:58Speaker 4: Hard games this week. Seems like it.
- 35:01Speaker 1: Utah, Cincinnati, and the Cardinals and Cowboys. The Texans, by
- 35:06Speaker 1: the way, are off. Friday's Fearless Football Forecast Contest, America's

- 35:13Speaker 4: It's a division of Sports Talk.
- 35:15Speaker 1: It's brought to you by Chad Jones Law and Zwernemann Flooring.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Like I said, I'm trying. Whether I think it's a
- 35:27Speaker 1: hard week or an easy week, every week turns out
- 35:31Speaker 1: to me personally to be a challenging week. As I mentioned,
- 35:39Speaker 1: I was at Moody Coliseum yesterday when A & M
- 35:44Speaker 1: and SMU played an exhibition game. I graduated at Moody Coliseum.
- 35:52Speaker 1: A long, long time ago.
- 35:55Speaker 4: A long, long time ago. Never mind. I can still remember.
- 36:06Speaker 1: They have redone Moody Coliseum.
- 36:08Speaker 4: Would you look that up, Stan, when they.
- 36:09Speaker 1: Refurbished Moody Coliseum, redid it?
- 36:13Speaker 4: It's been a long time, but I had been since
- 36:15Speaker 4: they did it. I had not been. I grew up
- 36:18Speaker 4: going to games and watching SMU play. At Moody Coliseum.
- 36:23Speaker 1: I saw Beasley play there and Bob Beggar play there.
- 36:27Speaker 8: Yes.
- 36:28Speaker 4: Started in 2012, finished in 2013. Okay, so it's been
- 36:33Speaker 4: 13 years.
- 36:34Speaker 7: Okay.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Well, I hadn't seen it. Really wanted to go. Was
- 36:38Speaker 1: up in Dallas for my high school reunion. So I
- 36:42Speaker 1: went by and watched about the first half.
- 36:48Speaker 11: And it.
- 36:51Speaker 1: I know you find this hard to believe, but it
- 36:52Speaker 1: got a lot better after I left. Man, it was
- 36:58Speaker 1: at a rugged start. And it turned out throughout that
- 37:03Speaker 1: the official's whistle stopped play about every 14 seconds or so.
- 37:08Speaker 1: As I mentioned earlier, there were 94 free throw attempts.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Both teams shot free throws exceedingly well.
- 37:19Speaker 4: A & M shot it at.
- 37:20Speaker 1: An 80% clip. SMU shot it at a 79.6% clip.
- 37:29Speaker 1: So it was a free throw shooting contest. The Aggies
- 37:35Speaker 1: made 32 out of 40. The Mustangs made 43 out
- 37:39Speaker 1: of 54. So they outscored A & M by 11
- 37:44Speaker 1: at the.
- 37:44Speaker 4: Free throw line.
- 37:47Speaker 1: They out-rebounded A & M by three, although the Aggies
- 37:52Speaker 1: did have a couple more offensive rebounds, 20-18. I liked
- 37:58Speaker 1: Cade Phillips on the glass. He got six boards and
- 38:02Speaker 1: was fighting there. Mackenzie Ibako had eight boards. to go
- 38:12Speaker 1: with 12 points.
- 38:14Speaker 4: P.J.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Haggerty, who was the scoring leader in the NCAA last year,
- 38:18Speaker 1: had 28.
- 38:19Speaker 4: He did not start out well.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Jordan Pope did not start out well in terms of
- 38:23Speaker 1: hitting free throws, but they had a four-point play on
- 38:27Speaker 1: a three-point attempt that drew a technical from Coach Enfield.
- 38:32Speaker 1: So the Aggies ended with five straight free throws at
- 38:35Speaker 1: the half. It was a good crowd for an exhibition game.
- 38:40Speaker 1: The Aggies were well-represented. The official attendance was 47-59. And
- 38:45Speaker 1: I think that place, would you see how many that holds?
- 38:51Speaker 1: I'm going to say it's around 7,000. It used to
- 38:53Speaker 1: be 9,000, which I might say was almost completely full
- 38:59Speaker 1: for everybody in the community to watch me graduate.
- 39:03Speaker 4: They didn't think that was going to be possible.
- 39:05Speaker 8: 7,000.
- 39:05Speaker 4: 7,000, yeah.
- 39:06Speaker 1: So a good crowd on hand. A little bit sloppy.
- 39:12Speaker 1: I mean, especially early. What you might suspect, I know
- 39:17Speaker 1: they had played a scrimmage earlier against, I think, Greg Canyon,
- 39:23Speaker 1: I believe.
- 39:26Speaker 4: So let's hear from Bucky. This is postgame on iHeartRadio.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Our broadcast with Andrew Monaco and Tap Bins.
- 39:36Speaker 8: Some good things we did. We were way better on
- 39:38Speaker 8: offense the second half, moving the ball, making half-second decisions.
- 39:41Speaker 8: I don't even know what team that was for us
- 39:43Speaker 8: the first half. We didn't play like that. I didn't
- 39:45Speaker 8: even practice like that all fall. This is why this
- 39:47Speaker 8: is great to do.
- 39:48Speaker 21: Yeah.
- 39:49Speaker 8: Um, I know some could have a deal because we're
- 39:51Speaker 8: subbing a lot of guys getting a rhythm and whatnot,
- 39:53Speaker 8: but the ball was sticking. We're playing one-on-one. We're not
- 39:55Speaker 8: moving the ball. And then the second half, we start
- 39:57Speaker 8: moving the ball a ton better. Yes. And, um, we
- 40:01Speaker 8: actually should have scored more points than we did. There
- 40:03Speaker 8: was a lot of points we left out there when
- 40:04Speaker 8: we had some good looks at it. I mean, we're
- 40:06Speaker 8: a much better three-point shooting team than we shot and
- 40:09Speaker 8: around the rim. So, um, That was good. If there
- 40:12Speaker 8: was something on offense that you just got to, you
- 40:14Speaker 8: can't play one-on-one ball to start the game. And then
- 40:16Speaker 8: you also can't turn the ball over the way we did. Defensively,
- 40:20Speaker 8: we actually played good on defense. People are going to say, well,
- 40:22Speaker 8: they scored 94 points. Yeah, but there's a lot of
- 40:24Speaker 8: possessions in that game. And we held them to a
- 40:27Speaker 8: point of possession, which in someone's home gym, that doesn't
- 40:29Speaker 8: happen very much. So analytically, we were good. What we
- 40:33Speaker 8: got to do, and this is why you do this
- 40:34Speaker 8: with refs and everything, you don't get a, we got
- 40:36Speaker 8: to stop fouling. You can't give a team 43 points
- 40:39Speaker 8: at the free throw line. You just, you can't do that. So,
- 40:43Speaker 8: you know, again, this is practice for us right now
- 40:45Speaker 8: and learning from it. So it was good to see.
- 40:48Speaker 8: Then execution down the stretch of late game was not
- 40:50Speaker 8: where obviously it will be. But guess what? That was
- 40:53Speaker 8: the first time for those guys to be in a
- 40:56Speaker 8: live scrimmage atmosphere where they could work a late game situation.
- 41:00Speaker 8: So we got a lot out of that, and I
- 41:01Speaker 8: appreciate that. SMU doing this so we could get we
- 41:04Speaker 8: all get some out of that play a lot of
- 41:05Speaker 8: guys and see what we like what we don't like.
- 41:07Speaker 10: You know I kept saying you know guys having to
- 41:09Speaker 10: learn their roles and I'm sure that's something y'all think
- 41:11Speaker 10: about every day yeah.
- 41:13Speaker 8: Yeah for sure and um they'll keep growing and and
- 41:16Speaker 8: I think we're learning what players can do and what
- 41:19Speaker 8: combinations of players should be out there who can close
- 41:21Speaker 8: games who can rebound who can play defense so um
- 41:25Speaker 8: it's good to see.
- 41:26Speaker 10: You know when we talked before the game you kind
- 41:28Speaker 10: of half jokingly said you know oh it's an exhibition
- 41:30Speaker 10: until about the last four minutes I think that started
- 41:33Speaker 10: a lot sooner in.
- 41:34Speaker 4: The second half than the last four minutes.
- 41:36Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, the guys always like to compete. We
- 41:40Speaker 8: do that. But, you know, we've got a ways to go,
- 41:43Speaker 8: as every team does this time of year. So I
- 41:47Speaker 8: mentioned this last year. We got significantly better from the
- 41:51Speaker 8: start to the finish, and that's kind of what we've
- 41:53Speaker 8: got to do now. I will say this for what
- 41:56Speaker 8: this is. We were– More like the second half on
- 42:00Speaker 8: offense than we were the first half in general. That's
- 42:02Speaker 8: kind of what this team should be like. And so
- 42:06Speaker 8: we've got to stay with what was good and keep
- 42:09Speaker 8: harping on that.
- 42:10Speaker 22: And, again, back to now you have film to show
- 42:12Speaker 22: them and correct. Also the good things, right? You can
- 42:16Speaker 22: do both with this. Once you put it on tape,
- 42:20Speaker 22: then you can apply the lessons.
- 42:22Speaker 8: Can you not? Yeah. They'll see what the key points
- 42:25Speaker 8: were because a lot of these guys in practice, they
- 42:27Speaker 8: don't think they foul. because there's no ref. When we
- 42:29Speaker 8: call a foul, they don't believe it. And then we
- 42:31Speaker 8: come out here and we... That had to be the
- 42:33Speaker 8: worst little scrimmage to watch of all time. I mean,
- 42:36Speaker 8: is it 7 o'clock at night right now? Feels like it.
- 42:39Speaker 8: I mean, I'll walk from one and free throw, free throw,
- 42:41Speaker 8: free throw. There was... 94 free throw shot in the game.
- 42:44Speaker 8: Who wants to watch that? Yeah, exactly. And that's not
- 42:47Speaker 8: saying anything towards the refs. Hey, we've got to stop fouling.
- 42:50Speaker 8: But we need to work that out now as opposed
- 42:52Speaker 8: to when the real games start.
- 42:54Speaker 22: Was it good that they play a style that's also up-tempo,
- 42:57Speaker 22: but then they showed you a little zone.
- 42:59Speaker 4: And then they had that 2-1-2 zone.
- 43:00Speaker 22: Was that good for this team as well?
- 43:02Speaker 8: No, it was really good because we want to see
- 43:04Speaker 8: different looks. And, you know, we got some good looks
- 43:07Speaker 8: versus zone, but we didn't attack the paint the way
- 43:11Speaker 8: that we need to. You know, and we had good
- 43:13Speaker 8: late games. I know people are like, why are y'all
- 43:15Speaker 8: working on stuff with one second left? You know, because
- 43:18Speaker 8: we can, because we can. That's why we do these things.
- 43:21Speaker 23: Right.
- 43:21Speaker 8: And so all that stuff was good. What was good
- 43:24Speaker 8: for us? But, you know, the real stuff is going
- 43:26Speaker 8: to be here pretty soon.
- 43:27Speaker 10: Here we go.
- 43:28Speaker 8: These don't count, but they will hear real soon. That's
- 43:30Speaker 8: when it gets real fun.
- 43:31Speaker 22: That's the exciting part. Let me let me finish this. So,
- 43:33Speaker 22: like you said, no team is the same in November
- 43:35Speaker 22: as they are in April.
- 43:36Speaker 8: Correct. Nor should they be. They should be. We should
- 43:39Speaker 8: get a lot better every single game.
- 43:40Speaker 6: Right.
- 43:41Speaker 8: And knowing which players need to be out there is
- 43:43Speaker 8: a big part of that. And evaluating that, like which
- 43:46Speaker 8: players can help this group. So, you know, this was
- 43:51Speaker 8: where we start.
- 43:52Speaker 18: Yep.
- 43:53Speaker 8: Where are we going to end? All right.
- 43:54Speaker 4: That's Bucky postgame yesterday.
- 43:57Speaker 1: A & M starts for real a week from tomorrow
- 44:03Speaker 1: at Reed Arena against Alabama State. The Aggies scored 51
- 44:09Speaker 1: in the second half. Unfortunately, SMU scored 59 in the
- 44:12Speaker 1: second half. But I think, let me see how many
- 44:15Speaker 1: of those were free throws. SMU shot 32 free throws
- 44:22Speaker 1: in the second half. They hit 29 for 32. They
- 44:25Speaker 1: outscored A & M by 15 at the free throw line.
- 44:34Speaker 4: In the second half of that game. Good gosh. That's crazy.
- 44:41Speaker 4: All right, we'll take a break.

- 45:20Speaker 16: The Houston Texans suffered a heartbreaking overtime loss yesterday as
- 45:23Speaker 16: the New York Giants stole the win that final score 27-21.
- 45:27Speaker 16: Each team found points on their opening drives and Houston
- 45:30Speaker 16: would use a 90-yard drive towards the end of the
- 45:32Speaker 16: first half to tie the game 14-all at the break.
- 45:34Speaker 16: Then to the fourth quarter where the Giants got in
- 45:36Speaker 16: front quickly with a 14-play drive. Houston would punt but
- 45:39Speaker 16: get the ball back for a game-tying drive which would
- 45:41Speaker 16: send the game to overtime. Houston would go three and
- 45:44Speaker 16: out on their overtime possession. Then New York used back-to-back
- 45:47Speaker 16: explosive plays to seal the six-point win. After the game,
- 45:50Speaker 16: Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud discussed why the offense struggled throughout
- 45:53Speaker 16: the game.
- 45:54Speaker 9: We still made it on first down, go to second
- 45:56Speaker 9: and ten. It seemed like a pressure package, you know,
- 45:59Speaker 9: and I didn't expect the rusher to be 20 yards
- 46:03Speaker 9: down the field, you know, guarding. It was a good
- 46:04Speaker 9: play by them, you know, and then third down we
- 46:06Speaker 9: had a chance, but, you know, just really couldn't get
- 46:09Speaker 9: it off. But, you know, it's kind of how the
- 46:11Speaker 9: whole game went. It didn't really get in the flow
- 46:12Speaker 9: and the rhythm.
- 46:12Speaker 16: Now Houston licks their wounds and uses a bye week
- 46:15Speaker 16: to reset. With your Houston Texans report, I'm Jett Nelson.

- 48:10Speaker 1: going to hear from Kalen DeBoer and his postgame comments
- 48:15Speaker 1: after the 31-20 Alabama win on Saturday.
- 48:19Speaker 18: Proud of the guys and the way they fought for
- 48:22Speaker 18: four quarters and the way they finished especially.
- 48:26Speaker 7: Just continue to stay with it.
- 48:28Speaker 18: Guys coming in and out of the game, they wanted
- 48:30Speaker 18: to finish and wanted to be out there coming off
- 48:34Speaker 18: the sideline and going out there and giving everything they got.
- 48:39Speaker 18: Different times in the game, it could have gone the
- 48:41Speaker 18: other way, but our guys kept finding a way to
- 48:45Speaker 18: make a play.
- 48:46Speaker 7: And keep the.
- 48:49Speaker 18: Keep them out of the end zone when we force
- 48:52Speaker 18: them to kick some field goals, and then find ways
- 48:54Speaker 18: to get some third downs there in the second half
- 48:57Speaker 18: and keep drives going. A lot of things we can
- 49:00Speaker 18: continue to clean up. It's good for us to have
- 49:04Speaker 18: a bye week right now. I know a lot of
- 49:06Speaker 18: guys that will be optimistic on getting back you know, for, uh,
- 49:12Speaker 18: the next week, uh, game against, uh, LSU.
- 49:19Speaker 7: Yeah. How do you get what happened in the fourth
- 49:21Speaker 7: quarter to happen?
- 49:23Speaker 18: The first three quarters type of deal with the way
- 49:25Speaker 18: the guys played with tenacity and defense and offensive success too. Uh,
- 49:29Speaker 18: you know, I mean, there's, there's plays that, you know,
- 49:32Speaker 18: we definitely know we need to make, um, there's, um,
- 49:37Speaker 18: execution that needed to be better early in the game.
- 49:42Speaker 7: We knew that they were a team.
- 49:43Speaker 18: If you look at their scores, even in other games
- 49:45Speaker 18: in the first half, even close to the end of
- 49:49Speaker 18: the second quarter, those games were close. Against these guys tonight,
- 49:54Speaker 18: we really felt like it was going to be a
- 49:55Speaker 18: four-quarter game and we needed to continue to stay the
- 49:58Speaker 18: course and just keep applying pressure, continue to to play hard,
- 50:03Speaker 18: play our game, understand that the third and fourth quarter
- 50:06Speaker 18: was where we could separate ourselves.
- 50:11Speaker 7: Rico Scott with over 150 yards.
- 50:12Speaker 4: Just how big was that when you have another week
- 50:14Speaker 4: with no Ryan?
- 50:15Speaker 7: Yeah, it was huge. I thought Rico came up in
- 50:19Speaker 7: a big way.
- 50:20Speaker 18: I know just coming off of last week and a
- 50:23Speaker 18: couple plays that I knew you'd like to have had,
- 50:25Speaker 18: he's developing those expectations for himself above and beyond and
- 50:31Speaker 18: Keelan has a lot of confidence in him, and him
- 50:33Speaker 18: and Lottie made some big plays for us tonight. Those
- 50:37Speaker 18: are things and moments where, as we do get guys back,
- 50:41Speaker 18: we just.
- 50:42Speaker 7: Become a stronger team.
- 50:45Speaker 18: There's a lot of winnable and teachable moments that are
- 50:48Speaker 18: happening today that can make us even better as a
- 50:51Speaker 18: football team through the second half of the season.
- 50:56Speaker 7: Can you share anything about what you know with William Sanderson?
- 50:59Speaker 18: He has a lower lower extremity injury get evaluated.
- 51:05Speaker 7: He's probably the one guy that could be out for
- 51:08Speaker 7: a little bit. So we'll kind of see no more
- 51:10Speaker 7: tomorrow for sure.
- 51:11Speaker 18: But maybe not, you know, maybe not a weaker or
- 51:16Speaker 18: two might be a couple couple more than that.
- 51:21Speaker 9: How did you see Keelan respond to some mistakes early
- 51:24Speaker 9: on and kind of how he was able to settle
- 51:25Speaker 9: in in the fourth quarter?
- 51:26Speaker 18: Yeah, that's the thing about him. Just trying to continue
- 51:30Speaker 18: to hone in on the confidence that he has, the
- 51:33Speaker 18: ability he has, and to not try to force things
- 51:37Speaker 18: like he did on that third and extra long. That
- 51:39Speaker 18: was something we talked about. We weren't going to have
- 51:41Speaker 18: third and extra long beat us in the game, and
- 51:44Speaker 18: that happened. I thought he did a really good job
- 51:46Speaker 18: of reeling himself back in, going out there, and just
- 51:49Speaker 18: to continue to focus on doing his job.
- 51:51Speaker 7: He made some.
- 51:55Speaker 18: Made some really nice throws on some conversions there at
- 51:58Speaker 18: the end of the game. And we got confidence and
- 52:00Speaker 18: we need him to continue to do that. And, you know,
- 52:03Speaker 18: that's why he's out there for us.
- 52:09Speaker 16: What did you see from the run game today and
- 52:11Speaker 16: kind of the balance that you guys had on the
- 52:12Speaker 16: run and pass?
- 52:12Speaker 18: Yeah, disappointed, you know, disappointed. The stats, that's all you
- 52:16Speaker 18: got to really look at. And we needed more out
- 52:18Speaker 18: of that run game, too. open up some things for us.
- 52:21Speaker 18: We've got to get back to work and make sure
- 52:23Speaker 18: we're continuing to execute, first of all, and be able
- 52:27Speaker 18: to stack some plays on top of each other. It's
- 52:30Speaker 18: okay for a couple yards when we get some negative
- 52:32Speaker 18: yards and have guys that are unblocked at the point
- 52:36Speaker 18: of attack or falling off blocks.
- 52:40Speaker 7: Those are things that we've got to get back to
- 52:41Speaker 7: the basics and we've got to get better at. Let's
- 52:44Speaker 7: go to Drew, second row in the middle. Coach, injuries
- 52:49Speaker 7: can create opportunity. What did you think about Fatua Henry?
- 52:52Speaker 7: I know he had two sacks. The last couple games,
- 52:55Speaker 7: the pass rush, I know it wasn't where.
- 52:56Speaker 18: You guys wanted it, but you guys got a couple
- 52:58Speaker 18: big ones late.
- 53:00Speaker 7: I'm really proud of him.
- 53:02Speaker 18: He had just an injury earlier in the week that
- 53:07Speaker 18: I wasn't even sure what his production would be for
- 53:10Speaker 18: us come Saturday or come today.
- 53:14Speaker 7: I couldn't be more proud of guys like.
- 53:16Speaker 18: Him and specifically him since you asked on the way
- 53:19Speaker 18: that they just continue to push forward. And he did
- 53:22Speaker 18: that exactly, that exact thing all, you know, really the
- 53:25Speaker 18: latter part of the week, getting himself ready, knowing that
- 53:28Speaker 18: we really needed him out there with just some guys
- 53:31Speaker 18: that are still out, you know, and kind of coming
- 53:34Speaker 18: back with, you know, the edge position in particular.
- 53:40Speaker 24: Going back to Rico, you mentioned that he's developing the
- 53:43Speaker 24: expectations for himself.
- 53:44Speaker 4: Have you seen him grow in that regard?
- 53:46Speaker 18: Yeah, he just, you know, the confidence and just the
- 53:50Speaker 18: excitement energy that he brings each and every day. It's
- 53:54Speaker 18: been something that we've seen all year long, but it
- 53:57Speaker 18: becomes more and more. And he's just the way he
- 54:00Speaker 18: carries himself. You know, you see Ryan and how he is.
- 54:05Speaker 18: And I think the guys always kind of look to him.
- 54:06Speaker 18: And then you see Lottie now growing that way. And
- 54:10Speaker 18: now you see Rico growing. doing the same thing. The
- 54:13Speaker 18: receiving core as a complete whole, I'm really proud of them.
- 54:17Speaker 18: You can add Derek to that list and we're continuing
- 54:19Speaker 18: to stack. CD's kind of heading that way too, so
- 54:22Speaker 18: there's more and more guys that really that energy, that
- 54:26Speaker 18: confidence within the group, that pride that they have. It's
- 54:29Speaker 18: coming out as a group, but it also goes back
- 54:32Speaker 18: to individuals that I'm really proud of as far as
- 54:34Speaker 18: how they've stayed the course.
- 54:36Speaker 7: Yep.
- 54:38Speaker 4: It's like you got a birthday Gatorade bath there in
- 54:40Speaker 4: the locker room.
- 54:40Speaker 7: It was a cold one. What did that mean to you?
- 54:43Speaker 18: I mean, I said, you get a win, you can
- 54:46Speaker 18: do whatever you want. That was what I said earlier
