- 0:10Dr. Slaton: Welcome to the Brain's Body podcast.
- 0:13Dr. Slaton: I am Dr Christopher Kevin Slaton.
- 0:16Dr. Slaton: Progressive Investment Institute of Focus Learning, Author of Education and Science to Brain's Body: help to improve brain, body and sense events.
- 0:23Dr. Slaton: And this is where you learn how to manage the brain, control the body and focus the senses.
- 0:31Dr. Slaton: And remember we're describing the learning crises in connection to drug use.
- 0:38Dr. Slaton: That disrupts how you or another person that you're working with lives in a home, learns in a school, thinks in a neighborhood and responds in a workplace.
- 0:55Dr. Slaton: And those are vital places because they are the environment that the contact and the interaction is occurring through, and any person in that environment can be the trigger that sets off the negative flow of emotion, thought and reflection.
- 1:19Dr. Slaton: that is experienced and then stored in a mind state or mood that then evolves as a behavior pattern that effects someone's ability, as an external environment, to make positive contact with that person and then get their information received through the nervous system.
- 1:48Dr. Slaton: Right?
- 1:50Dr. Slaton: Where it has to be transformed.
- 1:53Dr. Slaton: Okay, because we're talking about damage, sense and receive path functioning, and what I always try to make clear is that I always talk from the base, and this is why, because you never know whether a person realizes that when they're hurt, they're disconnected from their feeling systems.
- 2:19Dr. Slaton: That sense of feel for self comes from the practice of using the sense, feel, focus process cycle.
- 2:28Dr. Slaton: You sense to feel, the brain focus through your sense of feel for self.
- 2:35Dr. Slaton: Okay, that's a practice, because sometimes you don't have that sense of feel when you're disconnected because of hurt, love, hate.
- 2:46Dr. Slaton: Right, those are effects You could be in crises because you're balancing or trying to move between which, because you don't understand what love really feels like, but you're understanding more on the side of hate.
- 3:03Dr. Slaton: And then you just measure that in relation to pleasure, pain, pleasure, pain, and it's coming at you.
- 3:14Dr. Slaton: I'm talking about the environmental forces that impact you and make you wonder about your sense of feel for self in relation to the experience of being human.
- 3:27Dr. Slaton: Right, and we all go through this Don't love me, hates me, searching for pleasure.
- 3:37Dr. Slaton: Oh, it's okay to hurt, it's okay to be in pain, but we're talking about mental health and we're talking about the learning crisis.
- 3:45Dr. Slaton: We're talking about what blocks sense and receive path functions that transfer information to the brain to create stages of awareness.
- 3:58Dr. Slaton: Right, and I always go back to the base because the breath of life is simpler for you to understand what I mean when I say sense to feel, to focus, is what the experience of coming into the world was.
- 4:11Dr. Slaton: You had the sense to feel and try to focus.
- 4:15Dr. Slaton: Because what were you trying to do?
- 4:17Dr. Slaton: Learn, and the brain was in the lead, because learn is what?
- 4:23Dr. Slaton: A product of the brain, not the body.
- 4:26Dr. Slaton: And so when I talk to you about the brain's body, it's very important to our discussion that you understand what I'm saying is the environment represents self and the brain, because you have the outer and the inner, and that's the inner play between that sense of feel for self and the brain.
- 4:50Dr. Slaton: So, the brain is already involved.
- 4:52Dr. Slaton: But if you don't understand it, that's why we talk about the brain.
- 4:55Dr. Slaton: That's why, after all these years of working with children with ADHD and these difficult situations they're in where they were abused, neglected, abandoned, I mean we can go on.
- 5:10Dr. Slaton: The main thing you want to do, the main thing I had to learn how to do, was settle him or her down right, or settle mom or dad down long enough for them to understand.
- 5:25Dr. Slaton: You have to allow yourself to feel what's happened, that's hurt, that's pain, that sadness, right, but what are you trying to get them to do?
- 5:39Dr. Slaton: relax and let it come out why?
- 5:45Dr. Slaton: because you're trying to get them to move through that contact, that interaction that I'm always talking about, that interplay, because I'm a force now, I'm in the environment, right, and I'm trying to get them to relax on the inside and allow this information to resonate in their sense path long enough for feelings of self to be transferred so they can begin to heal.
- 6:24Dr. Slaton: To heal from what?
- 6:28Dr. Slaton: the words, because that's what we're talking about the words.
- 6:33Dr. Slaton: So, it's easier for me to say that when I'm talking about the brain's body, which is two dynamic words that are blended, because it's not about body, mind, it's about brain, body.
- 6:43Dr. Slaton: Because what do we say?
- 6:45Dr. Slaton: learn the brain to learn how to lead the body, to learn how to lead through the senses, the human system, brain, body and sense events, because that's what you struggle with, okay, that's what the disorganization of self releases or expresses through that energy, action and feelings in your response patterns.
- 7:18Dr. Slaton: So when you're trying to heal that sense and receive path, you want to know how to recover that sense of feel, or establish a sense of feel so that the person realizes they are alive, okay, and they can try, and it's okay, because what you're trying to do is feel yourself, so you feel for yourself, which is the brain, and in feeling for your sense of feel, for self, you have contact with the environment as well, and it's simultaneous.
- 8:00Dr. Slaton: So you're practicing learning from the inside out.
- 8:05Dr. Slaton: So, whatever happened in the environment you're dealing with and you want to reduce that fear and anxiety, you want to move through that anger.
- 8:18Dr. Slaton: That's why I said brain body learning system because you don't want to live through anger, because you have to control the body, right?
- 8:29Dr. Slaton: so when you look at what I'm saying to you, right, manage, control and focus energy, action and feelings, brain, body, sense, events, three process cycles, three, nine words that are key to settling you down, so you can begin to move through the crisis of self, the learning crisis.
- 8:55Dr. Slaton: I can't learn because of what happened, and what happened is very serious.
- 9:01Dr. Slaton: But being able to reach the workplace and function is just as important.
- 9:09Dr. Slaton: And, yes, you cannot put it in your pocket.
- 9:13Dr. Slaton: You can't put the native experience in your pocket.
- 9:15Dr. Slaton: Just keep moving forward.
- 9:17Dr. Slaton: No, you can't.
- 9:17Dr. Slaton: But what you can do is learn how to move through the hurt, move through the pain and be patient so that when you seek that pleasure, it's not a drug, it's not self-destructive behaviors, it's because you're really trying to balance your sense of feel for self and the world, because the world is coming at you, because you're hurt, and it's so much behind that that, if you understand the brain by learning system, you're constantly leading through your sense of feel for self in relation to your brain, in connection to your brain, in association with your brain, because that's your power.
- 10:15Dr. Slaton: That's how you form a regain, that identity that may have been taken from you or that you lost because of someone who abused drugs or you yourself are using drugs, lost your sense of feel for self and then care right, so you didn't know how to recover and control the things you did with your body.
- 10:47Dr. Slaton: Right.
- 10:49Dr. Slaton: And I always go to the key, the sense, feeling, focus cycle, because that's what you do.
- 10:55Dr. Slaton: That's the first building block.
- 10:57Dr. Slaton: Wake up sense In the environment.
- 11:02Dr. Slaton: What do you do?
- 11:03Dr. Slaton: Feel.
- 11:05Dr. Slaton: Next, you're already focused And if you can do those three things now, you put the next word in there Focus, my sense of feel for self.
- 11:18Dr. Slaton: Just remind yourself I'm connecting, so that I know I'm leading.
- 11:26Dr. Slaton: My brain is on.
- 11:29Dr. Slaton: We don't talk about the mind, because the mind is a product of the experience.
- 11:33Dr. Slaton: That's why your mood and your mind state is fixed and static.
- 11:38Dr. Slaton: So when I talk I use the word mind, but I understand that a mind has to be flexible.
- 11:45Dr. Slaton: So I understand that as I experience the environment and I experience the experience of self, i have to be open and cooperative so that the information moves through me and changes the way I feel Those things, so that I am renewed from the inside out.
- 12:09Dr. Slaton: And even if I go back to the former state, it is not a fixed state, it's a flexible state because I practice learning how to live with myself inside my body and remove me from being in the way I call that human system research the study of self.
- 12:30Dr. Slaton: Self first in relation to what, other people in the environment, because where does the pain and hurt come from?
- 12:38Dr. Slaton: Other people in the environment or self.
- 12:41Dr. Slaton: So you check all three boxes.
- 12:44Dr. Slaton: But what I'm saying is you have to have a method that allows you to move through feelings of self and gain the confidence and trust that's required for you to learn how to live each day, to learn how to live.
- 13:04Dr. Slaton: And then, behind that is what?
- 13:07Dr. Slaton: Because that emotion, that thought and that reflection, that's the real forces that cause the resistance, the way you withdraw and isolate because of the tension, the stress and the pressure of trying to hold up and be who you feel you are, a sense of feel for self.
- 13:36Dr. Slaton: Be comfortable with that, because that's what we're talking about today.
- 13:42Dr. Slaton: And so I talked about the human experience, and what I want to make clear is, again, i'm talking about the social, cognitive, the sense path, the sense of being, the sense path, and the neurologic interplay, which is the receive path.
- 14:03Dr. Slaton: Because, i want to be clear, these things happen simultaneously, but you choose, you have the ability to choose, and that's the key.
- 14:14Dr. Slaton: The sense and receive path is about understanding.
- 14:17Dr. Slaton: You have to make choices and decisions, just like that, and that's what you're practicing learning how to choose, to participate in learning through your sense of feel for self in the brain as a process cycle, so that you can methodically begin to develop the right knowledge base and reflective capacity to correctly channel the experience of self as you're moving through it, so that you can actually start talking about.
- 14:56Dr. Slaton: Yes, that's the way I used to see it that way, but then I began to realize, and you tell me, i'll change your state of mind or change your mood state.
- 15:06Dr. Slaton: That's what you're talking about.
- 15:09Dr. Slaton: And as you're doing that, what are you doing?
- 15:11Dr. Slaton: You're recreating the space for the brain to produce the new products.
- 15:19Dr. Slaton: Now, the new products is what you're doing.
- 15:22Dr. Slaton: That's the motivation, that's that spirituality, that's those things that you're unlocking that are held back, because when you have a mood state that's negative and tied to energy, action and feelings that are resistant to change, those are blocks in your sense and receive that, which means there's less interplay.
- 15:46Dr. Slaton: There's less interplay And it's probably because you fear moving through that negative energy again, because you know through the experience that this happening, it happened And you got to get over it, but you never get over it, because that's the purpose of memory.
- 16:09Dr. Slaton: But what you have to be able to do is learn how to live inside your body, the brain's body.
- 16:17Dr. Slaton: That's the recovery, it's the brain's body, because your brain has to be in the lead through your sense of feel for self.
- 16:27Dr. Slaton: And so I've been saying this and I keep saying this, and it's to me it's the most important part of the brain's body learning system.
- 16:40Dr. Slaton: It's just understanding that when I use these words, they're not their designations, that I've used on the front lines working with children and families in crises, and so, if you use these words right, live, learn, think, respond, sense, feel, focus, receive, process, respond.
- 17:02Dr. Slaton: They're words to help you understand the sense and receive process functions of your brain And how your brain then is better able to control your body, the physicality of you, your aggression, your anger, your frustration because you're using the academics.
- 17:31Dr. Slaton: But they're not abstract, because these words are grounded in humanism, that socialism, so you can experience the words right Because they're physical You live through them, you learn through them, you think through them, you respond through them, you measure them Based on contact, interaction, cooperation, participation, performance.
- 17:59Dr. Slaton: This is what we're talking about.
- 18:00Dr. Slaton: This is Dr Slate and live, and so I want to keep going, and so the things that we're talking about.
- 18:07Dr. Slaton: I hope you're beginning to understand.
- 18:10AI: In this episode of the brains body podcast, we want to explain what is meant by a sense of feel for self and the brain.
- 18:17AI: There are three parts to learning the brain's body.
- 18:20AI: First, of the environment, self and the brain.
- 18:24AI: When we use the word feel, it means to process the interplay between the environment and self, to transfer the flow of energy, action and feelings to the brain.
- 18:34AI: It is not only important that you sense contact, but that you experience the way it feels to connect with self and the brain.
- 18:41AI: Learning the brain takes place through a sense of feel.
- 18:44AI: You learn through a sense of feel for the way you make contact with the environment, contact with a sense of feel for self and cooperate through a sense of feel for the brain.
- 18:54AI: Information between the environment and self is social and neural interaction that moves the process to reflect on how it feels to have a brain.
- 19:03AI: That is the role of a sense of feel for self.
- 19:07AI: When you have a sense and received path that is upset by the flow of emotion or thought, you want to learn ways to feel your way through the experience.
- 19:15AI: The experience of the environment, such as a home, school, neighborhood or workplace, and self as the brain's body.
- 19:23AI: You have an innate need to learn how to process these experiences.
- 19:27AI: Are you ready to talk about the human nervous system, to feel your way through the mysteries of the human brain?
- 19:33AI: This is how I talk about the brain, not the body.
- 19:36AI: I use three words to help you move the way you practice learning the brain's body Manage, control, focus.
- 19:45AI: You study the brain to learn how to manage the flow of emotion, thought and reflection.
- 19:51AI: You read the body through a sense of feel for self to learn how to control the body.
- 19:55AI: You learn through a sense of feel for self and the brain how to focus the body as feelings of the nervous system.
- 20:04AI: Join this conversation about the brain, not the mind, with Dr Christopher K Slaton for an enlightened explanation of why the brain must be in the lead of the body to learn how to change states of mind.
- 20:14AI: This is how you learn to understand the learning crisis as a neurological breakdown in the way you transfer information through the sense path for the experience of knowledge, in the received path to comprehend the flow of emotion, thought and reflection.
- 20:29AI: Hence we express the urgent need to address information processing issues with education and science that connects to the study of the brain and the mind.
- 20:38AI: Education is an important way to practice informing the brain.
- 20:43AI: Science is an important way to practice programming states of mind.
- 20:47AI: Dr Slaton will share his insights on how to inform the brain, to discipline the body, to manage, control and focus your labor.
- 20:55AI: You manage the flow of energy, you control the flow of action and you focus the flow of feelings as brain, body and sense events.
- 21:04AI: The sense path is the social cognitive path and the received path is the nervous system received path that changes the experience of emotion, thought and reflection.
- 21:13AI: Reflection accentuates the affect, effect or influence from the contact between the environment, self and the brain.
- 21:22AI: The point of educating the brain is to shift the process flow between feelings of emotion, thought and reflection.
- 21:29AI: When you program the brain, the response may reflect static displays of the body as a state of the mind.
- 21:36AI: When you inform the brain, the choice to respond creates feelings of tension, stress and pressure between brain, body and sense events.
- 21:45AI: This is the purpose of the practice.
- 21:48AI: To learn how to move emotion, thought and reflection forward and backward through sense and receive path functions is to reduce feelings of tension, stress and pressure.
- 21:58AI: These are reflective stages of brain activity when the role of the body and the senses represent forward and backward feed through feelings of self and the environment.
- 22:07AI: The role of the environment is to inform the brain through the transfer of social cognitive experience to neurological processing.
- 22:15AI: That informs the brain through a sense of feel for self.
- 22:18AI: Hence, a sense of feel for self is in the lead of the body to create the reflective capacity to review poor behavior or states of mind that affect the transfer of energy, action and feelings through brain, body and sense events, based upon learning the environment of self.
- 22:36AI: The purpose of feelings of tension, stress and pressure is to align sense and receive path functions with the role to manage, control and focus brain, body and sense events.
- 22:47AI: The brain's body to comprehend the flow of tension, stress and pressure, energy, action and feelings, emotion, thought and reflection as process cycles to inform a sense of feel for self.
- 23:00AI: To live, learn, think and respond through Educating the brain requires a certain level of understanding of the social cognitive sense path and the neurological received path.
- 23:11AI: This is a social, mental and neural talk to the brain by Dr Slaton.
- 23:16AI: Say hello to Dr Christopher K Slaton.
- 23:22Dr. Slaton: And again, what we're talking about is a sense, feel, and focus as a process cycle, a life learning system, because when we talk about practicing learning how to live, you know you have to sense, to feel, to focus.
- 23:44Dr. Slaton: So if you, when I'm working with a kid, for example, with ADHD I gave you example in a previous episode I use a sense, feel, and focus cycle to teach that person what it feels like to sense the contact between me and them.
- 24:05Dr. Slaton: And feel the transfer, using a mirror and me and the kid can be in the mirror and kid can see and feel how their brain is transferring our contact to interact through the use of the mirror, where we can see each other right and experience each other.
- 24:27Dr. Slaton: And understand what focus looks like, because we're both standing firm, as instructed to display signs of control.
- 24:41Dr. Slaton: That's what we're talking about.
- 24:44Dr. Slaton: The learning crisis, because in a classroom you have to be able to focus.
- 24:51Dr. Slaton: And even ADHD is a matter of practicing learning how to focus.
- 24:59Dr. Slaton: One minute, two minutes, three minutes.
- 25:01Dr. Slaton: No! it's about teaching the person what focus is in how they should be able to do it, and you want to get that person as early as possible in the crisis to teach them through contact in the home, interaction in the school, cooperation in the neighborhood, and participation in the workplace.
- 25:32Dr. Slaton: For a kid, anyone of those three other places can be the workplace when you're in there working with that kid.
- 25:39Dr. Slaton: For an adult, the workplace is the workplace And you want to learn how to move through the people, to make contact, to interact and to display signs of cooperation and read their response patterns by studying their body, learning how their body is responding to you.
- 26:01Dr. Slaton: That's a sense of feel.
- 26:04Dr. Slaton: So all I'm trying to get you to understand is that when people are overly aggressive and violent, you have to settle that down, you have to calm that down, but you have to have a diagnostic system that allows people to understand who and what they're working with.
- 26:24Dr. Slaton: And be able to detect mental illness early enough to help this person get help.
- 26:32Dr. Slaton: And I just gave you some of the basic things.
- 26:38Dr. Slaton: You look at Life inside the home, learning inside the school, thinking inside the neighborhood, working inside the workplace, responding inside the workplace.
- 26:49Dr. Slaton: I mean Now because those are measurable events.
- 26:52Dr. Slaton: And what are we trying to do?
- 26:54Dr. Slaton: We're trying to help reduce violence and create safer, home, schools, neighborhood, and workplace networks.
- 27:05Dr. Slaton: But we can't do that if we don't have a diagnostic criteria or a system that identifies the essence.
- 27:12Dr. Slaton: You got to work with your own brain.
- 27:14Dr. Slaton: Now you can say mind, but I'm saying when you're hurt, the mind is what everybody's talking about.
- 27:24Dr. Slaton: You may understand that that's not your brain and you want to know how to work through your brain, how to stop yourself from doing the things you do that are hurtful for you, destructive for you.
- 27:38Dr. Slaton: That's why you talk to the brain.
- 27:41Dr. Slaton: That's why you talk to the brain.
- 27:44Dr. Slaton: That's why when I'm talking to you, i call it brain talk, not mind talk, because mind talk means that I'm talking about your behavior or your mood.
- 27:55Dr. Slaton: No, i'm not talking about your brain because we've got to change that.
- 28:01Dr. Slaton: See, we've got to change that.
- 28:03Dr. Slaton: Here's another example so that you can move through contact and make it easier for you to interact, because now you are already cooperating, because you know when you're made to contact, it was to interact And as you're interacting that's your evidence of cooperation You sense a feel for self cooperating through your brain, acknowledging we have to do this to learn how to move through this hurt, these feelings, and so you're practicing moving through it and that's called participation Right, and you score it based on performance.
- 28:47Dr. Slaton: But now you're reading those environments and what's taking place.
- 28:51Dr. Slaton: Now, where is the safest place for you to live, learn, think and respond?
- 28:58Dr. Slaton: Now we're talking about real stuff, because when you're hurt, you're trying to find that safe place.
- 29:04Dr. Slaton: And you got to know where that safe place is.
- 29:07Dr. Slaton: Because that's what you have to do You have to get that sense of feel for self so that you're more comfortable and you can cool yourself off, to calm down, to collect that sense of feel for self in the brain.
- 29:23Dr. Slaton: That's what I mean The brain's body learning system.
- 29:27Dr. Slaton: This has been Dr Slade and Live.
- 29:30Dr. Slaton: I hope you enjoyed the session.
- 29:33Dr. Slaton: I really, really wanted to talk about mental health because it's really rampant inside our culture right now and I've experienced it firsthand.
- 29:42Dr. Slaton: And then I've experienced working with other children and families and been very, very successful.
- 29:48Dr. Slaton: Because my son responded to me There was a period where they said he was not going to live.
- 29:56Dr. Slaton: We got he lived past the age of 28.
- 30:01Dr. Slaton: He was a child when we got that diagnosis But because he chose to practice learning how to be healthy and work with other people and other people, he graduated with a 3.8.
- 30:17Dr. Slaton: We're a schizophrenia, because he worked with the people Right, and I'm trying to get you to understand that through a sense of feel for self, which he was learning how to deal with, because the mental illness piece is that you lose that connection, so it don't matter, so you don't want to feel, because you don't want to recover, because you want to just stay the same, because it's safer, because that's too much work.
- 30:44Dr. Slaton: Up and down, up and down That's what we're talking about.
- 30:46Dr. Slaton: So I'm going to stop there because I want you to understand.
- 30:49Dr. Slaton: This crisis is in all our families, right, but you just have to understand what you're looking at.
- 30:57Dr. Slaton: See, it's not normal.
- 30:59Dr. Slaton: I keep saying that.
- 31:00Dr. Slaton: Tune it out, tune it out, tune it out, Dr.
- 31:04Dr. Slaton: Slaton live, Tune it out.
- 31:06Dr. Slaton: This has been the Brain's Body Podcast.
- 31:08Dr. Slaton: Looking forward.
- 31:09Dr. Slaton: God bless you guys.
