- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the Big Play Show!
- 0:01[SPEAKER_00]: Presented by Fan Dual, Happy Monday, 2-Juts, been a long weekend for us, Sigardians, man.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: It was a long few days at the ballpark, everybody, but we got LaBron watch to be talking about on this fine Monday morning.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_00]: We're bringing back friend of show NBA Insider, Scoop B. Robinson, and Scoop, you've released a couple really fascinating reports lately that kind of allude to the fact that maybe people are focusing a little too much on
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: cap space and rosters when really things like lifestyle and future play a big role in the bronze decision on where he's going to be making his next move.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_04]: Happy Monday afternoon to you as always our standing noon invitation.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I'll say this to you over to Scoopy.com and my
- 0:51[SPEAKER_04]: Let them went to the Los Angeles Lakers from sources familiar with Levant's thinking Savannah his wife Savannah James wanted to move to Los Angeles, but there's this notion for a long time and every indication I've gotten tax credits going to Los Angeles to do space dam to do the shop to all the partnerships with.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_04]: And to wrap that in power amount and more and big business, you're kind of seeing that on the side of Kevin Durant where he's got his board and everything over this was LeBron in 2018, but LeBron still had to get a close time from his wife and LeBron has headed towards that in every public interview that, you know, it comes down to his wife and his daughter, Missouri was 11 years old.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_04]: And answer to your question directly.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_04]: It's not just the easiest, just getting on a plane to plane 14, specifically when you're still raising a young daughter, you have a wife and more.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_04]: So the family aspect is something that is weighing on his mind.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_04]: I'll add that when I was on your show last week, we discussed explicitly how,
- 1:57[SPEAKER_04]: Fanatic's best in New York City would be used as a as a sounding board for where he's going.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_04]: He has told you to trust the process.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_04]: He has talked about bread crumsey has talked about him.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_04]: A mirror of different things and here we are we later.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_04]: The world cup is over.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_04]: Now what?
- 2:13[SPEAKER_03]: Scoop where we at because it feels like now the true waiting game begins.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_03]: The world cup is coming to a close.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_03]: We know Brown is a new golf fan.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_03]: So they got the open championship in the rear view mirror as well over there on scoopy dot com.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_03]: You wrote a little bit about Vegas and the gambling lines.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_03]: That's something that's really starting to scare our Cavs fans here is the different prediction market sites, you know, running this direction towards Miami, this direction towards Golden State, people are losing their ever-living minds as these prediction markets are changing so fastly, but I know you have a little bit of intel about the gambling space as it pertains to this LeBron watch that we're currently all living in.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_04]: I drop something over the weekend where I talk about how big it is in this frenzy and you know and I don't want to name names bars companies but what I will say is that one of the things that I've learned kind of in doing my research and talking to other colleagues is typically one right so you a guy of LeBron's magnitude it doesn't go on until August.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_04]: It's kind of like a almost August there's a cutoff and so
- 3:20[SPEAKER_04]: many people are just going off of information that has been regurgitated throughout the course of made to now and it's kind of this phenomenon of him standing on a polio more award event and he's giving all of these different clues and it's flipping the the the calibrations of of what's what
- 3:43[SPEAKER_04]: Um, and, and, and more specifically, using fatatics methods away the troll, like even from a perspective of somebody reporting it, you get something on one hand and I reported that Anthony Edwards had not established a communication with LeBron and then I get.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_04]: those who saw my reporting calls me and says they did talk.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_04]: And then you go into fanatic space and that those guys are using sound bites.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_04]: And so what people are saying kind of makes the market all over the place.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_04]: And if I can make a comparison and just talking to people, it's kind of like when any sitting president does a state of the union or he addresses the nation.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_04]: And there's a conversation, it affects the stock market, it affects
- 4:27[SPEAKER_04]: various things and you're kind of seeing this in a presidential row where where LeBron is teasing and it's saying different things.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_04]: It's like you said it's making people flip their rocker and have various conversations.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_04]: Even Draymond Green having a taping of his Dreymond Green show and AJ debonsed that as well as of the member of the Washington Wizards as well as Dominique Wilkins was on that podium and you know, Draymond asked AJ.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_04]: what's your pitch for Brown and he goes ask AD.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_04]: It's almost like the players or the poor also media fixtures are in on the joke.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_04]: What's what?
- 5:00[SPEAKER_04]: More concrete and more specifically from inside information that I have based off of conversations as a reporter.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_04]: Um, you know, LeBron does have concerns about Joelle and B and the seventy-sixers because of his long-term health, um, someone familiar with LeBron's thinking shared with me, you know, him joining Philadelphia is a gamble, um, and, and it's interesting because I've had conversations with doubles in the known Philadelphia and they share with me that,
- 5:30[SPEAKER_04]: Joel and bead looks great.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_04]: He's been working out pretty pretty much regularly.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_04]: He's been eating well.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_04]: He's been dropping weight and he's really looking lumber and and and and and just and tune was going on.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_04]: But I know that it was told to me specifically that if.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_04]: LeBron, once if the 70 sections won his services, the sixers may want to look into moving Joel and B.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_04]: And 32 years old has had MVP numbers for a while has had dealt with some injuries.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_04]: There are teams out there who do have centers that Philadelphia could make calls about.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_04]: So I know that there's a gentleman in Milwaukee named Miles Turner who didn't necessarily have the most enjoyable experience in Milwaukee last season playing next to Yannis Johnson to Kumpo and others.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_04]: You can look at Dallas and see what's going on there with Daniel Gafford.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_04]: There are a lot of big men who would want to play alongside LeBron James.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_04]: It's Philadelphia, it's calling the number, but the Cleveland Cavaliers said me from every indication I've gotten.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_04]: It just feels like LeBron is stalling because he wants the sixors and or the Cavaliers to make moves to fit his skillset.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_04]: That's what my instincts tell me, and I still go back to what I said about AJ DeBance.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_04]: I really feel like as this draws out even further.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_04]: That's where the Minnesota's and that's where the Washington Wizards as dark horses are conversational pieces.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_04]: I've been saying that since May, I'll continue to say it.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_04]: I believe that the Cleveland Cavaliers are the front runner.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_04]: I believe that the
- 7:12[SPEAKER_04]: the Philadelphia 76ers are number two, I think the Warriors are three and I think that the wild cards and all of this are the Washington Wizards and the Minnesota Semifinals based off of my reporting.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_02]: Wow, scoop so specifically, what do you think the calves need to do with their roster in order to be able to land LeBron James?
- 7:31[SPEAKER_04]: Well, number one, they need to figure out what they're going to do with James Harden.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_04]: I've gone back and forth as far as just
- 7:39[SPEAKER_04]: James aside, and he's also said publicly what I've reported.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_04]: behind the scenes, as far as his desire to want to play for the calves with Lebron James as his teammate down of the Mitchell has stated his pieces far as some, you know, didn't running it back and revisiting where they were in 2016.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_04]: And I think that specifically roster construction, they're going to have to make some moves, whether that is what they figure out about Dennis Schroeder, whether what they figure out about
- 8:16[SPEAKER_04]: Next, I said this on another programming.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_04]: I said it over Cleveland.com.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_04]: I bring it over to the chat here.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_04]: I know that Demar DeRosen is someone that has a desire to want to be teammates with LeBron James.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_04]: whether that's Cleveland, whether that's Miami.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_04]: I also think that Miami is not somebody that you should sleep on.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_04]: I know that everybody talks about income tax and saving money.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_04]: I know that people take quotes of what Savannah James said about her enjoying Miami and more.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_04]: I know some people feel like billionaires live in San Francisco and they live in Miami.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_04]: They don't live in Cleveland.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_04]: But LeBron is not a typical billionaire.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_04]: It's to somebody that has ties to Northeast Ohio, but I'll say this to you more specifically.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_04]: from every indication I've got many people talk about this as a retirement tour that this is his last year.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_04]: From all my reporting, I've never got the indication that this was LeBron James's last year.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_04]: And so I want to kind of an answer to your question and temporary expectations about Cleveland.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_04]: So you guys watch recently, Kyle Lowery, retired as a Toronto Raptor.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_04]: He signed a one day deal and they've got a whole frequent library of Kyle Lowery in Toronto.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_04]: He's built his name and built his bones over there.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_04]: Um, and that comparing LeBron to Kyla Ari and saying he'll sign a one-year deal, but this is what I am saying.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_04]: Who's to say, okay, LeBron weighs his options, right?
- 9:45[SPEAKER_04]: And year one, say he signs a two-year deal, hypothetically.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_04]: Say he signs a two-year deal with the team.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_04]: Say he goes to Philly or say he goes to the Golden State Warriors for a year and he signs a two-year deal with one-year guarantee and then in the second year, meaning this time next year, we go into the offseason and he wants to sign one another team.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_04]: Who's to say that he doesn't look at the landscape and say, hey,
- 10:07[SPEAKER_04]: I go to Cleveland the second year.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_04]: Those are some of the things that I'm hearing from people across the league.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I think that he has a rich history with Cleveland and I think Cleveland has a respect for him vice versa, but I do think that.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_04]: while I do think Cleveland is a favorite, who's to say they're not a favorite a year from now, who's to say that that's not a conversation later.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_04]: But I do want to say that I think the longer this drags on, it makes a lot of people upset and then they start talking about that he owes something to the city of Cleveland.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_04]: And I don't agree with that.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_04]: I actually think he doesn't owe Cleveland anything.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_04]: I think people hold this expectation to LeBron in a way that they don't hold it for.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_03]: Scoop so you're saying that there's a chance that we could do LeBron watch all over again next summer
- 11:00[SPEAKER_04]: Those are conversations that I've had with people, what they've said, okay, say he makes a decision and it's not Cleveland in year one.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_04]: If he goes into this next year, this could be a conversation where you open it up.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_04]: I've heard it both ways.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_04]: I'll say that.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_04]: I don't want to circle in this.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_04]: This is what's going to happen.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_04]: I'm telling you things that I've heard.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: You know what that track, so if you think about it, Goats have a hard time retiring.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, across the board.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_00]: Look at Brett far.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_04]: Look at Aaron Rogers.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_04]: We've seen this before.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_03]: There's also something about that quarter century number.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_03]: That's kind of interesting.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_03]: You know, the 24 season in the league is coming up 25th is a pretty darn cool way of putting a bow on it.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_03]: When you're specifically evaluating Cleveland scoop and the
- 11:49[SPEAKER_03]: fact that maybe they need to make a move to convince LeBron to return to Cleveland.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_03]: We've heard so much about them shopping, Dennis Schroeder, Maxis Struse, is a name that has consistently come up maybe a little bit of Jared Allen as well, even though that won't maybe confuse me a little bit just because of the liability with LeBron as a passer.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_03]: What do you think the cows would have to do?
- 12:11[SPEAKER_03]: Kind of on the fringes to their roster to convince LeBron to come back.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I look at what they did and resigning dot of the Mitchell and you know, from folks that I spoke with and I've explicitly talked about this in my article where I said, you know, there are people who look at the dot of the Mitchell thing and they're kind of like, well,
- 12:32[SPEAKER_04]: We're surprised that he's still even here.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_04]: And then the Garland thing which Rich Paul talked about at length on his show with Max Kellerman, it was a thing of, you know, where do we go from here?
- 12:48[SPEAKER_04]: And answer to your question, I think it's a matter of going out and getting other, as a swingman.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_04]: I think the calves are still in need of a swingman.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_04]: Whether you trade or whether you just sign out right
- 13:03[SPEAKER_04]: I don't necessarily think it's about the calves going out and making a splash, because I think that's forcing it.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_04]: By no means, or no stress to the imagination in my relationship expert, but if you like the guy that got like you, it's a matter of kind of being subtle and not being allowed.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_04]: You don't have to wear a line-green suit to show someone like them to put to
- 13:24[SPEAKER_04]: to put the drip on, you just beat, and I think that I think every team, whether that's the cabs publicly, Kitty Acid, and giving public comments, Anthony Edwards on the Timberwolf side, giving public comments, AJ Debats, the speaking publicly on Draymind Grease podcast, all these different people extending overchairs, I actually think Anthony Edwards is the one that's playing at the smoothest, he goes, you know, and I'm paraphrasing,
- 13:50[SPEAKER_04]: Yo, I would give LeBron a pitch, but we're not in his top three.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm saving it to me.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_04]: That's the girl who wants the guy.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_04]: So to speak.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_04]: And you know, I'm taking my book bag and I'm walking home.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_04]: I don't even want to get in the car.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_04]: I'm walking home.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_04]: I'm taking the bus.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_04]: I think you have to be very cautious when you're recruiting someone like that that you don't overshoot your shot.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_03]: Well, there are people to scoop right now that think that maybe that's what the calves are doing, just because of outside allus and Dean Wade and Keon Ellis, bringing back Tom Miss Bryant, and signing that big Donovan Mitchell extension, they haven't done anything.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I don't disagree, and I think, but I also think this, LeBron is a magnet, right?
- 14:30[SPEAKER_04]: So when LeBron came, I remember when LeBron played his first step in Cleveland, but from 2003 to 2010, a lot of people did want to sign with Cleveland, right?
- 14:39[SPEAKER_04]: And then when he came back in 2014, you guys re-braided yourself as the land.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_04]: I wasn't here in the land prior to that, like, in a national perspective and correct me.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_04]: And if I'm wrong, you're not, all right.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, so we're on the same page, all right.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_04]: then everybody want to come back to Cleveland and be his teammate.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_04]: I think in that vein, I think it's a matter of once he signs with any team, whether that's Cleveland, whether that's Miami, whether that's...
- 15:06[SPEAKER_04]: Whether that's the Shanghai sharks, he's going to attract wherever he's teammates wherever he's going to go and I think that that's really what it is and and so then I wonder this if If Cleveland signs him or if Cleveland wants to sign him of this there's an ex is there an expectation that he's just going to recruit this that this that framed him them as lazy
- 15:30[SPEAKER_04]: versus a team like Miami who traded to get Yanis signed Tim Hondaway Jr. Also, what did Bobby Porter do?
- 15:41[SPEAKER_04]: Who's wearing 95?
- 15:42[SPEAKER_04]: I think that's the ugliest number ever by the way.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_04]: But I think, you know, they're being proactive and going about their business.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_04]: They asked Pat Riley a question about it.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_04]: He gave his response and he went about his business.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_04]: Like, there's a lot of teams, not just Cleveland, who appear like they're not chasing.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_04]: Miami is a team that appears like they're not chasing.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_04]: And I would switch to you, the Miami portion of it is the quiet money that you should watch.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_02]: scoop.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of parties who are right now waiting on that decision.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_02]: One of which happens to be the league itself.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_02]: Adam Silver has said that they're waiting on some of the scheduling on some of the national games right now.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_02]: Is there truth to that or is this just posturing on behalf of the league?
- 16:25[SPEAKER_04]: I think it's a combination of both.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_04]: Usually you hear you hear scheduling
- 16:32[SPEAKER_04]: the announcements of the scheduling sometime in August in September, but I think to be more specific, you also have to realize that the Brian, as well as Adam Silver, were all on the panel of some sort this last week.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_04]: Adam Silver was on a boardroom panel just like the Brian was on a panel one day and you know that sometimes when comments and responses and remarks are given,
- 17:00[SPEAKER_04]: Many people take that as the book of Mark chapter two in the Bible that's that's law that because they said it that that just wasn't eating that was passed out and I think in that instance, it was it was it was said and and people ran with it.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_04]: And it's consumers of media outside of us being media personalities and journalists and what have you, we are consumers of basketball.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_04]: We love basketball.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_04]: So we hear it and we take note of it and we discuss it.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_04]: But I will tell you that on the LeBron Jam side, they don't care.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_04]: I can tell you that it was intimated to me that, you know, he's going to make a decision that fits.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_04]: the elasticity of his career that fits the mold of what he wants to do and how he wants to go about it.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_04]: And you know, it's interesting.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_04]: You didn't ask this, but I'll tell you.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_04]: I really think that LeBron has had a front row seat to be the antifysis of some of the people that came before him.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_04]: Like Kobe Bryant, fan of his game, fan of his legacy, but like NLA and I said this
- 18:07[SPEAKER_04]: He was on a losing Lakers team and scored 61 points and ended it.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_04]: if he didn't have his killies, if if if if if certain things didn't happen, I really do think we'd be having similar conversations about Kobe and how he was going to end his career.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_04]: And LeBron watched Kobe.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_04]: He watched Michael Jordan in 98 where Jordan wants that are so uncomfortable at Madison Square Garden at the end of his bulls tenure.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_04]: And it's like LeBron is able to watch
- 18:42[SPEAKER_04]: And he's not trying to be like them, he's being himself.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_03]: All right, scoop with that in mind, last one, Brandon Scoopy Robinson, nice enough to grace us with a few moments on a Monday.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_03]: What's the timeline looking like on this?
- 18:57[SPEAKER_03]: We keep hearing from you from, I saw Bill Simmons keep saying Cleveland's the front runner, Cleveland's the front runner, feels like we are the front runner, but I do think we're getting to the point where a lot of people are getting really desperate for a decision when you think this could actually come down.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_04]: So Ben, excuse me, tell Bill Simmons to stop reading my stuff and then saying it is, is it he reported it because he's getting all the clicks.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_04]: I see him and myself on the timeline and it's like, man, come on now, I have all the respect the world for going by the world.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_04]: That's a two question why I did report to be at the day that
- 19:33[SPEAKER_04]: the world cup and waiting for it to be over is not their motivation to get it done.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_04]: It's about expressing right fit, but I'll be honest with you.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_04]: I think LeBrona already knows what he's going.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_04]: I think he's dragging this on.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_04]: I know that you guys have a mixture of older and younger audience.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_04]: And I made a joke last episode out.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_04]: I have another one that you guys might want to hear.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_04]: Like, you know why's the TV show Lambchop?
- 19:59[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_04]: This is the song that never has to go on and on my friend.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_02]: So people started singing it, not knowing how it would end.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_02]: You're singing it to it.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so I know that's all.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_04]: We're in Lambchop territory now.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's relatable, we appreciate you, appreciate your time, and I honestly just want to congratulate you on on you making it through this type of season too, because you do it every year, and I give you guys a lot of credit, you're the one synthesizing the marketplace of ideas to try to seek truth in your closer than any of us, but we're here on the outside and appreciating your time and entertainment with us.

- 21:33[SPEAKER_00]: I'm still coming off.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_00]: It feels like a bender.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: We had the 13 hours on Saturday and there was the winds and the rain and rain delays.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe you can't hear us.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_01]: Oh no, Jensen.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe some technical difficulties with Jensen.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_03]: Do we have
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: I hear you guys now.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_01]: I think go ahead again.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead and fire it up again.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_01]: I was doing the whole.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_01]: I could see your mouth move.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, when is she going to stop?
- 22:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I'll try and make.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'll try and think of something here.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_01]: Go again.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_01]: Now I can hear you guys go work.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_00]: Good.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_00]: You get you guys need a little glazed overlook, which is the one I had after 13 hours of work on Saturday double.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's funny.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: You say that because we were able to make it to the night cap there on this Saturday and great job out of you guys and kind of hanging with the weather there is always a long day that day night or that we're on top off.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_00]: Turban.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_00]: Turban.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_00]: Turban.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_00]: Turban.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly, you got that, but hey, all's well that ends well, right?
- 22:31[SPEAKER_01]: And boy, what a performance from Bazana in the office.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: Just kind of hanging tough, right?
- 22:36[SPEAKER_01]: Because that's a pretty solid bullpen there with Pittsburgh again.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_01]: And usually they don't give up those kind of leads late in ball games, but you take advantage of the opportunities there.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: And unfortunately, not able to get the job done against Paul schemes on Sunday.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: However, you know, here we go, guys, we've kind of talked the last handful of weeks that
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's the offense that that really is going to need to pull their weight now.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_01]: The pitching is giving you every opportunity to win pretty much these series headed in through the end of June into July.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: And boy, what a start to the second half Pittsburgh, who has pitched well, now you get Minnesota and Joe Ryan tonight, who is pitching like a a sai young candidate and then on the road to Tampa and battle for the Ohio cup against the red.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: So a lot of great pitching this offense is going to have to try and gun down here moving forward.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: How do you diagnose some of the offensive struggles that we've seen?
- 23:25[SPEAKER_00]: What's the thing that needs to change the most?
- 23:28[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the easy answer, Gab, is putting more balls and play always helps.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_01]: And when you're punching out at the rate that some of these guys do, that that is a really tough way to do business.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_01]: And then also, guys, we talked about this a lot too, where, you know, Clonney's really the only guy that that's going really well.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_00]: He's been on fire did you see any of these I was like Sifting through the game notes yesterday So much so that I had to make an announcement about it because after he hit again That was his sixth straight hit against the pirates, but he's also been on a tear since July 1st He's batting like four above 430 now.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely Yeah, he's doing great and and again that we we've really reiterated the fact that
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: He's never kind of let the beginning of the season get in his way or if he has, he hasn't shown it outwardly and that's a credit to the professionalism there, sticking with the process and now kind of back to where we're used to seeing him at top the lineup.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_01]: So he's been an engine of the past, let's hope he and Bazana can kind of move that forward and I know we're all kind of holding on just trend water to wait for Jose to get back here, but the water has been good
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: Now you really need and credit where it's due because Roque has been awesome for a good stretch of the year, if not the entirety of the season.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_01]: This probably lasts seven to 10 days is the most inconsistent.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_01]: We've really seen him swing the bat, but I think you stay bullish on the top three top four in this lineup.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_02]: Johnson coming off the All-Star Break for those players who weren't involved in the All-Star Festivities or anything going on, what's it like getting back into the flow of normal baseball and the normal baseball schedule?
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: I can tell you, Chris, I'm glad that we didn't have to play as the group that wins day game.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: You're the Thursday game, I should say, you know, where it was just the Mets and the Philly standalone there, because you really do treasure that extra 24 to 48 hours, and especially for guys that played in the game, you know, that that really is kind of a punch in the gut to have to come right back there, and then, you know, the weird off day on that Friday.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, bottom line, guys that didn't go to the mid-summer classic.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: You know, usually back to the family and if you're married and you're, you've got young kids that's usually mama handed them over to you and say, okay, it's on you for a couple of days.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to take a little breather here.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: So it's probably just a good amount of downtime to really take your your mind out of it.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: good little reset.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_01]: And then, you know, usually a workout on Thursday, depending if you're home away, just get a little swing action in there, little BP, maybe in the cage around the field.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, your relievers getting some side work, guys that got to throw bullpens in the rotation taken care of that.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_01]: So it goes fast, Chris.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm telling you, you know, even if you try and go and get a little quick get away, you get the Wednesday morning like, how'd I get to pack everything back up?
- 26:14[SPEAKER_01]: We'll get a strap back on here, get to our city that
- 26:21[SPEAKER_03]: You mentioned Travis Masada, just his impact on keeping this offensive flow outside of the numbers, Jensen.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_03]: What is surprised you the most about how quickly he's seemingly adjusted to major league pitching here?
- 26:34[SPEAKER_01]: I think Nick, and I think I've told you this before, is that the plate discipline is pretty remarkable for him.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_01]: Even though he's the first overall selection just a couple of years ago, you don't take a guy, especially an offensive player like that.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_01]: unless you feel really comfortable with with what he's done.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_01]: Now, if you look at some of the splits, I mean, he's absolutely torched right hand and pitching not a shock there as a left hand at hitter.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm anxious to kind of see what he does now moving forward with the left on left matchups.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_01]: I think headed into play today, it's a buck 74 average against lefties, 272 against righty.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_01]: So almost a hundred point difference there.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_01]: The OPS is a little more
- 27:12[SPEAKER_01]: Again, when you're a young hitter, the platoon advantage is usually, you know, where you're going to be able to take advantage of a right if you're left handed batter and vice versa.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_01]: So let's see how he does.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_01]: And let's also kind of see if Steven Vogue continues to entrust him regardless if the left handed starter or right handed starter, almost by necessity, needing him in the top third of the lineup.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_01]: But I've been I'm very impressed when when the moments have been pretty big here.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he's, he's handled himself pretty well.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: The month of May was awesome.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_01]: A little bit of trouble there in June.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see what he can do.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_01]: Pick it up here in July.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_02]: Speak to that all.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_02]: We can use if he could use along this same path.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_02]: Could you see him in the conversation for rookie of the year?
- 27:55[SPEAKER_01]: No doubt and you know Chris selfishly when he the night before he got called up I took a little share of him at 75 to one I mean you had to he's gonna you're not calling him up to set you're not calling him up the just face right ahead at hitting
- 28:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's he's coming in there to play every day, but more importantly, and you guys know from watching this team, they brought him up so that there could be a lot of infusion offensively at the top of the lineup.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_01]: So as I kind of look at the award market right now, you know, he's 25 the one.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: So he's about the fifth betting choice, Kevin McGonagall, your odds on favor right now at almost three to one.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think we're shocked by that.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: Mootataka Murkami, seven to one is right behind him.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_01]: So the fact that you've got in the division, and even if you want to put Carter Jensen
- 28:41[SPEAKER_01]: you have four of the top six rookie of the year choices in the American League by the current odds market and actually just checking it now.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: Let's include the lottery and Messec.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_01]: Carter Jensen, the lottery, Messec all tied at 30 to one.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_01]: So your top eight choices, guys, you have six of the eight in the American League Central.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: That is good news when three of them play on our team.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_01]: So hopefully that's an open of good things to come.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_03]: I mentioned that calendar.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_03]: We're getting ready to flip that bad boy over to August, and that means MLB trade deadline time.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_03]: Any inkling as to what the guardians could do.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously this American league is so wide open, but there's the uncertainty of next year.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_03]: And if it'll even happen, I'm so curious to see what this deadline looks like around baseball, but of course specifically for our guards.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we know that starting pitching is always the most expensive item here Nick and, you know, good news for the Guardians.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_01]: You haven't had to use anyone except the starting five that you left good year with.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_01]: So from a debt perspective, they're going to be fine there for the stretch run.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think internally, you get Ramirez and you get on Helm Martinez back that that answers two questions offensively.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_01]: But I still think,
- 29:55[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you have to figure out what we're doing at the bottom of the line up.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, the whole Gabriel Arias situation will take care of itself when Jose returns and, and he'll obviously occupy his customary post there at the high corner.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_01]: You're not really getting anything consistently from the catching position that's kind of been a tradition.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like any other here for the last several years.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: And then P. Halpin, you know, trying to platoon through center field and, and it'll quantity bounce back and forth here.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_01]: The ideal thing would be to go get a right-handed power hitting outfielder and the easy answer is Taylor Ward Baltimore or Spencer Steer down with the Cincinnati Reds.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_01]: The problem, guys, is every contending team that needs a right-handed hitting outfielder or a right-handed power bat.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_01]: is going to be calling about that and about those guys.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_01]: So they're going to be up against it.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_01]: Will this organization want to part with some prospects?
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: You sort of had some auditions already for the young kids, especially with the Jose Ramirez injury, other guys forced into action.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_01]: But I would think offense, a batter two, that's me wanting to do it.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_01]: And
- 31:02[SPEAKER_01]: As you said, Nick, with this and pending lockout here, it's going to be hard to turn this trick again year after year when you're in the bottom third bottom, you know, five teams in offense and trying to go win playoff series hope and that your pitching can just shut down and opposing offense game and and game out.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_02]: Where do you think this team's at in terms of expectations?
- 31:24[SPEAKER_02]: I know we've got so many young guys who are playing right now and who are playing well.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_02]: But do you think the front office thinks that, hey, maybe we're here a little early, so we're not gonna push all of those chips into the middle right now for the playoffs, who knows what happens for next year?
- 31:39[SPEAKER_02]: But right now, maybe it's not the right time, or do you think that they're going to be willing to say, hey, listen, these chances only come so many times, or at the top of the division or near the top of the division, now's the chance, now's our time to take that chance and take that next step.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_01]: I share your sentiment.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_01]: I don't take any year for granted.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_01]: You never know when you're going to get back here.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_01]: And they've been fortunate the last couple of years to be right in the fight.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, the miracle come back down 15 and a half games last year.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_01]: That happens once a couple of decades if not once 100 years.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_01]: So I think if I look at it and I'm objective about it, Chris.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: There are a lot of teams at this tree deadline because of the unknown.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: of the the labor agreement and what the CBA will look like moving forward.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_01]: If there is a cap, if there is a floor or a combination of both, you are going to have to be cost conscious about where your payroll is and that's not as really an importance here with this club knowing their payroll is one of the the cheapest and all the baseball.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_01]: So it's not like you're worried about you know, banging up against the luxury tax or anything anytime soon.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think it is going
- 32:51[SPEAKER_01]: where you look at organizations at this deadline saying I would rather value controllable and affordable guys that are on minimum deals or not going to hit you know their first couple of years of arbitration maybe for another year or so versus taking on
- 33:07[SPEAKER_01]: multi your contracts that will have multi million dollar hits because if it is and I'm just using this as a hypothetical if you are looking at a league that now operates under a salary cap as early as next year.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_01]: Well, there's going to be some teams that have to offload salary and they have to offload some of those big ticket items.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_01]: You don't want to be one of those teams.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's hamstrung, if you kind of catch my drift here that we took all this on to try and make it run here.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_01]: But now for the next two or three years, we're stuck with it and no other team is going to want to take that from us because it will have the implications on their cap space moving forward.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_03]: Jets and as somebody that's just been around a lot of playoff baseball in Cleveland and understanding that this guardians team despite all the things that they've had to overcome with like those three hitters getting hurt all on the same Saturday, you know, the division just being different than what it's been, you know, we kind of expected Detroit would be there, maybe not so much.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_03]: It's been more so, you know, Minnesota and Chicago who we're tied with, but
- 34:10[SPEAKER_03]: I think a lot of Guardians fans are excited about the playoffs this year because of how wide open this American League is, but how deep of a boop of postseason run do you think is realistic, at least for the team as they're currently assembled right now.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a fair question and Nick to be honest and Frank, what do we know you have to do in a major league postseason you have to hit the ball the ballpark and you have to strike out a lot of opposing hitters or at least at a rate commensurate with the elite teams in the league.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_01]: do the guardians do the latter really well.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, actually they're they're pretty darn good.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_01]: When you look at where their bullpen is, they have the highest strikeout per nine ratio in all a baseball.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_01]: You look at the starting rotation just to hair outside of the top 10 in that category.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_01]: So that's fine.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_01]: The problem is they're 27th and homers.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_01]: They're dead last in OPS, they're dead last in scoring.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_01]: That's a really tough way to try and navigate through, you know, what looks like a wild
- 35:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you're you're not really anywhere near.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the white socks right now are four games back of Tampa Bay.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_01]: They're two and a half back of the Yankees.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_01]: The white socks would right now be that number two scene by virtue of of that record and get them through the buy into the division series.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_01]: But I think if you're Cleveland and you're kind of assessing, okay, the Yankees could be without air in judge, not only for the foreseeable future, but maybe you know, through September.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's no guarantee that he's going to get all ramped up and be ready to rock and roll in enough time, but you want to operate with the fact that Tampa has already said they're going to be super aggressive.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_01]: Boston, you know, with this 13 game win streak, everyone left them for dead.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_01]: They've got all the horses in their rotation if they could healthy with crochet and Suarez.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_01]: They can go out and take on a little bit more money for a contract.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_01]: Texas, Seattle, it's a wild west to say the least.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think those are the only two viable teams, though.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_01]: And then you have, you know, Cleveland and the white socks in the middle here, the white socks have the offense.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like if you were to take Cleveland, just central teams.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_01]: If you were to take Chicago's offense and put it with Cleveland's pitching staff, now you can start to dream a little bit and look at like, hey, the white socks are fourth and baseball in home runs.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_01]: That can translate in October.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that's kind of where you're left to answer your question, Ron, about Lee Nick.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_01]: Every team and every contending team right now certainly has their shortcomings and a lot of that is offensively.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_01]: There's not really one super
- 36:46[SPEAKER_01]: uh kind of worried about going up against these teams and that goes for Tampa at the top that goes for, you know, the rest of the teams that currently occupy those playoff positions right now.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_02]: Jensen as a man in the know, did you have Ryan Fox taking home the Clare at Jog on Sunday?
- 37:02[SPEAKER_01]: Chris, you know what's funny is there was a better at draft kings that played and I don't know how this happens or what they did.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_01]: But you could have gotten Ryan Fox upwards of 2000 to one in the first round.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_01]: He put this person played a $55 wage or a 2001.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_01]: They want 110 grand.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_01]: He hit his third round, okay, was a 62.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's one of the lowest rounds of the entire open championship.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yet at one point in round three, Ryan Fox was 750 to one.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_01]: So just to give you, and he was 150 to one before the tournament even started.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_01]: He was over par, and that first round of why he dripped into such an astronomical number.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_01]: No, I did not.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_01]: Two, I don't know how to tell you, click that number and say, yeah, I feel really good about just throwing a 50 spot away.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_01]: uh... the credit words do man what what a finish and i thought Cameron young who would had posted the round that he did he sent there for two hours maybe he's going to get this across the line with no sweat because you still worried about those guys finishing up uh... i feel terrible for sandburns to man uh... he's been a brides made a couple of times now so close
- 38:07[SPEAKER_01]: But congratulations, I don't know if you guys saw this too on social media today.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_01]: Man of the people Ryan Fox.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_01]: He's he's got the Clare at jug carrying case with the jug in it And it's in the overhead bin.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't even think he's at first class.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_01]: He's like delta comfort or something and he's got it was hysterical a fan saw They put it on social media man to the people Ryan Fox.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_01]: No big deal.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna carry the Clare at jug on and and go enjoy my next golf turn
- 38:31[SPEAKER_02]: He made a 7 a.m. flight or whatever it was after all the celebrating last night.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_02]: That's fantastic.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_02]: He does seem like a man of the people.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_01]: And he plays quick.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_01]: And there's one thing I appreciate in golfers is play fast in this guy does it at the top level.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_01]: The fact that he hit the the clinching birdie 22 seconds.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even exam burns and turn around yet.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_01]: And here we got ready golf for the
- 39:01[SPEAKER_02]: real quick, any thoughts on the Bryson.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_02]: Little stomping down there in the Heather and all of the controversies surrounding that between that, now, Rory's comments, any thoughts from Jensen Lewis on that?
- 39:13[SPEAKER_01]: If we had, Dana White, who a great friend of the program here, if we could get a sanctioned fight between Bryson and Rory in the octagon.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, what a preamble that could be for the next U.S. Let's make it happen.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_01]: You guys will like each other.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_01]: Let's settle it like Matt.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_00]: Oh man, that's one way to go viral.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_00]: All right, Jensen, we appreciate your time as always.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be looking forward to this twin series and we'll be checking in with you next week.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for coming.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_02]: You got it.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks, Jensen.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_00]: We're taking a quick break.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be back with more Big Play Cleveland right after this.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome back to the Big Play Cleveland show.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_00]: The most chipper man in the room has joined us.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_00]: The top dog.
- 39:52[UNKNOWN]: Woo, woo, woo, woo, woo.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_05]: You know what that bark is like that, right?
- 39:56[SPEAKER_05]: training camp to start in football season today.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_05]: You guys know this, but you need to know because you guys know such big 10 fans is SEC media day.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_05]: So, uh, and you know, I'll say this real quick coming off the bat.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_05]: The SEC is, uh,
- 40:12[SPEAKER_05]: It's got something to prove because the last three years everything has come out of the big tent and you know if you if you like Dan C C you don't like that if you're an old country boy from from Noble Alabama.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, sure.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_05]: Hey, you'd be you'd be nice of that.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_05]: What do you want to talk about me like that?
- 40:33[SPEAKER_03]: Hanford, I'm on Fendell right now.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_03]: Here's the issue.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_03]: I'm on Fendell right now.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_03]: I'm looking down the national championship odds.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_03]: I've got to do quite a lot of scrolling before I see Alabama all the way down there at 25 to 1.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_03]: What's going on with that?
- 40:49[SPEAKER_05]: you know what they're not going to be they're not going to be that good this year either because if you look at the teams that That's really supposed to come out of the SEC is supposed to be Tennessee and then LSU because you know LSU obviously got that
- 41:04[SPEAKER_05]: do coach coming from Ole Miss and Ole Miss should have a pretty good for about team.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_05]: But the SEC has got to come back this year because I'm telling you just like what you just said.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_05]: The last three years, the big 10 has really you got Michigan, Ohio State and Indiana and those teams have just been outstanding.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_05]: So come on SEC, let's get this shit going.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_03]: Hey Chris, hey Chris, guess who's the favorite right now on Fandle the win the national championship?
- 41:32[SPEAKER_03]: Just give me a guess.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_03]: the Ohio State University winner winner winner will be insane and crew coming back.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_02]: We got Texas early in the schedule next year.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_02]: We'll get that all down to the way.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_05]: Players, Chris.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_05]: Come on.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_00]: roast and hand for first thing on a Monday hand for it okay so you know we've been talking about the quarterback room I know we're thank goodness we got real football comments so we can start evaluating things but there was a recent national ranking that came out and it kind of labeled the Brown's quarterback situation as one of the worst.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, or actually was this could be any year.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, that's any year, right?
- 42:09[SPEAKER_00]: I know, but if you need to just put this, you can record it right now.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_00]: And then just play it next year and then just play it again, play it again.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's like how we were doing it before we wish them well.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_00]: And now and it's us talking Brown's quarterback situation and could look a little better.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_00]: When you when you hear that, what's your reaction?
- 42:26[SPEAKER_05]: Well, you know, I, I don't think the room is, uh,
- 42:32[SPEAKER_05]: as bad as it look right now or as bad as it's been uh... you know me personally i don't think we had a quarterback since the burn decos or days and you know how long that's been the hell that's what i was playing so uh... and and yeah i'm an old man gap so i know you call me old all the time and that's all right i'm uh... i'll say it but uh...
- 42:51[SPEAKER_05]: You know I I look at that quarterback room and I see I see some potential and when I say I see some potential I obviously I don't see it Watson because I just don't think he's the answer What are we bringing me here 2022 2022
- 43:07[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, we we signed him to this big big contract and obviously we were hoping for big things out of him.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, when we signed him, I mean, he had just had a great great year.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_05]: You know, I play well with Houston, but I think when you got should do or we have to, we have to find out what we could do what he can do and how he's going to play.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_05]: I think there's some potential there.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_05]: And then I think also the kid we drafted.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_05]: I think this kid, the big kid, six, three, two, 35 runs a four, five, 40, a four, three, 40.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_05]: I think this kid has got some upside.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_05]: Not right now, but I think eventually he's going to be okay.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_05]: But I think Shoulder is the guy that's going to take the read.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_05]: But I don't think that quarterback room is as bad as people think.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_05]: Now, ask me again after the end of the season.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_05]: And then I may have a different view on this whole thing.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_05]: But right now, I just, I think there's some hope there.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_05]: And I want to see what the weapons we have.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_05]: I want to see how we turn out.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_02]: One of the things Hanford, you know, it's one thing to talk about the quarterback room.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_02]: But then the other rooms have been improved offensive now.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we went out, got a couple of nice wider severs.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_02]: I think in the draft between conception and Boston.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_02]: I think both of those guys are gonna be immediate contributors.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_02]: We've already, we were already set it tight in with a good young tight end.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_02]: We also drafted another one.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_02]: You know, we've tried to revamp the offensive line.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_02]: That's gonna remain to be a question for this offense.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_02]: But you've got, and then you've got, in the backfield, Quenchon, Judkins coming back, right?
- 44:41[SPEAKER_02]: So I think there are a lot more pieces to be optimistic about that even if you're not sold on the quarterback room, which is huge in the NFL, I do recognize that, but even if that's not 100%, you've got enough pieces around that you could have an offense that can move the ball this year.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, and that's a point that a real good point that you bring out there, the improvements that have made, because like you said, conception, I mean, he's a guy.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_05]: I think not only is he going to help us at the wide receiver position, he's going to help us on special team.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_05]: You got thrash, you got bond, you got hopefully Jared Judy coming camp.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_05]: uh... in a great move uh... did i did i mentioned boston as you mentioned him too but i agree with you i think we have some weapons there i think we have some guys that can really maybe scare uh... some defensive back so at least uh... get the defensive bags attention there so uh... i i'm all excited about this uh... about this team about this offensive about the improvements that we've made uh... on that offense and i think that's definitely
- 45:47[SPEAKER_03]: Top Dog, I wanted to ask you about this because Ryan's got a little video for us.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_03]: Shidorah Sanders released a song over the weekend and you played in the era where veterans and coaches were really demanding about earning respect in a locker room.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_03]: Rex Ryan recently called out Shidorah Sanders saying that he needs to worry a less about the spotlight, less about social media, and more about putting his head down and just getting to work.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_03]: I know you also understand though that this is a new era of quarterback.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_03]: This is a new era.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_03]: of the NFL, do you think Rex has a fair point about the way that young QBs like Shidorah need to carry themselves or is this just another example of people being way too critical about a kid that does have other interests other than playing quarterback?
- 46:35[SPEAKER_05]: Well, is this the one where you had the fall of a jurist?
- 46:38[SPEAKER_05]: The jurist is right out there.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_05]: And Rex is going to be Rex.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, we have to understand that.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_05]: But again, it's different today than when I played.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, you got all these social media.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_05]: You got all these avenues out there.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_05]: So those guys can get out there and show people who they are.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_05]: I don't have a problem with it.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, I really don't.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, I would have a problem with it if
- 47:04[SPEAKER_05]: when the season starts or if we were in the season if he's not performing and then I would have a problem with it.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_05]: All we cared about when I played is how you perform on the field.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_05]: I mean personally I didn't give a gut name what you did after the game what you did before the game is long as when the ball when when the game starts if you do what you're supposed to do you perform you perform at a high level
- 47:33[SPEAKER_05]: uh... wrecks but i understand also wrecks point of view and where he's coming from with this whole thing and he let's just face it i mean chudures been out there chudures are very very popular guy i think when you look at it he's got the most jersey sales that people have had uh... in a while i think he's made a lot of got their money on those damn uh... just don't jerseys sell alone
- 47:56[SPEAKER_05]: but uh... people have been given a hard time about uh... his social media about the things he said about his policy and all the people that uh... come with him and hang around him i don't care about it all that the players don't care about all that all they care about the should do our centers that come out and perform on the field but again
- 48:17[SPEAKER_05]: I understand what Rex is coming from Rex going to be Rex.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, I thought we kind of handled Rex Ryan and Cleveland.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_03]: Remember Baker told him to put his foot in his mouth like I thought that was going to be the end of Rex Ryan.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_03]: Go there, but I'm talking browns quarterbacks, but but evidently he's not done with us.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_03]: So ignore we've got your back.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_03]: I liked this song.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_03]: I actually liked, you know, he put all those 12 jerseys out because when he, when he,
- 48:43[SPEAKER_05]: change numbers handford you have to then go buy the rest of the inventory of the twelve jerseys that he printed so i thought that was a really cool way to roll out and you know what i i think what have really been a nice touch with that whole thing in the way it all came out okay he would have asked uh a few of the players a couple of the players to uh join him uh in that video and i guarantee you they would have been more than happy i would have been really uh what about a former player
- 49:10[SPEAKER_05]: even a former player like myself, the top dog.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_05]: But you know, you know why, you know why I wish he to run into this whole thing, the offensive line.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_05]: You know what I'm saying?
- 49:20[SPEAKER_05]: Because those are the guys going to have to protect him.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_05]: Those are the guys going to have to keep his jersey clean every single game.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_05]: So I've been having to feed about those guys.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_05]: You know, it had been pretty cool during the whole thing.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_02]: You know, now it's old heads out here.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, I've heard, you know, you're, you, you will also have done a little bit of this type of work back in the day.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_02]: We didn't have social media back in the mid 80s.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_02]: So you didn't have a good way that you could get out your message or get out all your, your, your acting ability.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_02]: But you were able to do it through a little film that you didn't, in 1886 called Masters of the Gridiron.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_02]: and that was with a lot of your teammates out there.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_02]: And was kind of a response as I recall to the Super Bowl shuffle from the Bears, right?
- 50:02[SPEAKER_05]: With Doug, see now you're going to way back.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_05]: I am on way back.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_05]: You have to work on it as with that.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_05]: I don't even think Gabby was born back then.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_05]: Gabby was you born back then, and were you just a little girl back then?
- 50:15[SPEAKER_00]: That was pre-my time.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I want to learn all about it.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_00]: We need it.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_00]: Do you still have the moves?
- 50:21[SPEAKER_00]: That's all we need to know.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_05]: Gavin, I still have the moves, but Chris, you're exactly right.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_05]: We did, and can you imagine though, if social media back then was where it is now, I mean, how big that master of the grid on would have been, I mean, come on, Ryan, stop laughing over there.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_05]: You leave me alone.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_02]: It is available on YouTube for anybody watching Michael Stanley band they were featured in the movie.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, this was something else.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_02]: I watched it a few years ago.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_02]: You had a lot of players on that team.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, of course, the bad barion Mike Babb Ernest minor.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_02]: you of course was on we're on there Dan Fike Bob Golik of course Carl Harris didn't pick big daddy Kevin Mac play Matthews Ozzy Newsom was in the cash for that movie Mike Pagel our backup quarterback at that time and then of course tiny Tim famous you know
- 51:24[SPEAKER_02]: kind of national guy there in Tiny Tim wasn't a member of the team obviously nor would he make it very far if he were on a football field But that was one of those things that was kind of magical and made relegated to VHS for years and years and then finally made its way to YouTube So I was able to take it in a couple of years ago, and I think it's unappreciated role for you, Hanford
- 51:44[SPEAKER_05]: Well, I agree with you.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_05]: And I'm going to ask you this if you remember this.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_05]: You remember when we did the we did the poster, we call it the last dogs of defense.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, yeah.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_05]: All standing right there on the courthouse steps.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_05]: And we all have the dogs with us.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_05]: And we're dressed up.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know if we had suits and tuxitos on or whatever it was, but it was pretty cool.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_05]: We're pretty creative, so that's why I can't beat up Ocean Dore, you know, because leave him alone, let him play.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_05]: But one thing about us, though, dog, when it was time to play, we got between the lines.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_05]: And we laid it down, big doll, we laid it down.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, people these days don't realize back in those days, you don't only have so many posters, you don't only have so many graphics, you don't only have so many things.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_02]: So would you say there was a poster like everybody in Cleveland had that poster?
- 52:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_02]: There's like five or six during that time that everybody had, you know?
- 52:40[SPEAKER_02]: The Bernie coasts are air rate.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_02]: That's gonna be up in people's bedrooms.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_02]: The ones with you are gonna be there.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_02]: The Webstar slaughter.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_02]: People had that one.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_02]: I can remember these even Michael Dean Perry,
- 52:53[SPEAKER_02]: I had that one on my wall, but people had those posters because there weren't a whole lot of posters back then and then once they're out for the Browns Dang sure you were you're putting that on your wall and we didn't have anybody that could sing back then so that's another reason why we could have used Gap My goodness I'm I'm sorry.
- 53:11[SPEAKER_00]: I'm distracted by the fact that Nick just takes off on the poster
- 53:15[SPEAKER_03]: I found the pose.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_00]: This is incredible.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, my goodness.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know what you're doing.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_00]: He's probably, you know what, Ryan's probably going to work on putting this up.
- 53:24[SPEAKER_00]: But so I won't show it yet.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_00]: But my goodness.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we already knew you were handing some time down.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_03]: Wait, is somebody wearing a, oh my gosh, you guys were definitely dressed up top dog with the additions you mentioned the offensive line.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_03]: It's a brand new offensive line all five new starters young receivers throughout this roster from conception Boston.
- 53:46[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously the skill positions guys from last year with judgekins and fan and do you think this offense is actually a better shape than a lot of people in the national media are given us credit for here.
- 53:56[SPEAKER_05]: I think it really is, you know, obviously when you look at it, a lot of people are going to grade us because they'll start with the quarterback position, obviously and rightfully so they should start there because that's where everything is controlled on the offense, well, the offensive line also.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_05]: But I think a lot of people are not giving us enough credit, a lot of enough credit.
- 54:18[SPEAKER_05]: I agree with you 100%, but then again, it goes back to those guys that I talked about, talking about those weapons on the outside, talking about the addition of the why receivers, talking about how well those guys play.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_05]: And again, with that offensive line, if you have to be able to run the football, because everybody knows that you run the football to set up the pass.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_05]: And we have to be able to run the football.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_05]: I think we will be.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_05]: I think we'll be a much improved team with Todd Mumpkins.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_05]: Because when you look at Todd, I mean, he's an offensive guru.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, that's where he excels.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_05]: That's where he's at his best, creating things on the offense to beat up on the defense.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_05]: And I think with the addition of him and with the addition of all the new players that we've really bought in, I look for an offense to
- 55:11[SPEAKER_05]: be much improved and again the defense had to last year the defense had to pick up the offense and you've heard me say it here a couple of times or two or three times that it's going to have to be the other way around yeah the offense picking up the defense just because of that miles
- 55:30[SPEAKER_03]: Garret trade really did though for you know the status of this roster because you have said that a couple times that the offense Might actually have to be ahead of the defense going into camp.
- 55:40[SPEAKER_03]: It's a new defensive coordinator as well Mike Roonberg's never done this before obviously a lot of those guys still the same But Jared verse for Miles Garrett's different Devon Bush for Quincy Williams different still got the same corners But how do you think that defense is gonna come along throughout camp?
- 55:55[SPEAKER_05]: And when you look at it, you hit it right on the hand when you talking about this is his first time being a defensive coordinator.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_05]: You know, we lost a top five guy, Jim.
- 56:07[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, who was running that defense and we all know the problems and we wanted to be the head coach and obviously.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_05]: we don't need to get it in all that, but he's not here anymore, and I think that's going to be big.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_05]: I think even though we're still going to run pretty much the same stuff or tip to run the same things that we ran while Jim was here, we're going to try to do that with these guys, but
- 56:32[SPEAKER_05]: That defense is, you know, we don't know what's going to happen.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_05]: We don't know how they're going to come out.
- 56:38[SPEAKER_05]: We don't know how they're going to perform.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_05]: Losing a guy like Miles Garrett.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_05]: Losing Jim as the defensive coordinator.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_05]: And then verse, I mean, we all know that he could play.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, he's a great, great player, but Miles has gone and we have to face that.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_05]: I think one of the questions, I think you guys were asking me about, you know, one of the positions.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_05]: Gab, how did you have that one of the what position or something?
- 57:07[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we could.
- 57:08[SPEAKER_00]: We were going to talk about the secondary since you knew that well.
- 57:11[SPEAKER_00]: If there was anybody who stood out to you that you were excited about this year.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, and that's why I was hit it, but you know me, I'm getting a little lucky and think of things.
- 57:20[SPEAKER_05]: But yeah, the answer to that question is, it's gonna be, I like the kid Campbell, Tyson Campbell.
- 57:26[SPEAKER_05]: I think, when you look at Tyson Campbell, obviously we got him, he was involved in the trade, where we sent Newsom to Jacksonville, and we brought him here.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_05]: But he's a guy, I think, got a
- 57:41[SPEAKER_05]: a great upside because he had just signed a new contract a new four-year contract 76 Million dollars and I'll just tell you what they actually thought of him But his problem was he ran into some injuries and as a result that hurt him But anyway, we brought him here.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_05]: I think I'm looking at some of the stats he had He had like 87 tackles one interception
- 58:03[SPEAKER_05]: That interception that he had guys he ran it back for a touchdown now.
- 58:07[SPEAKER_05]: That's something their top dog is never done the top dog's never had a pick six And we're ending in for a touchdown So no never never had one, but he had 18 pass breakups and I think he
- 58:19[SPEAKER_05]: When you look at we had a couple of force farmers, but this kid, he's got potential to be in really, really great.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_05]: Obviously, he's going to be the number two corner because we got Denzel Ward on the other side, who is no question is the top top corner with this football team.
- 58:36[SPEAKER_05]: But I think with the two of those guys, I think they could be really, really good.
- 58:41[SPEAKER_05]: And they're going to have to be good because the only problem that I'm going to see
- 58:46[SPEAKER_05]: Uh, with them is they're going to have to cover a little bit longer right now because my scared is gone because the quarterback with my scared as we all know can't stand back there all day.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_05]: He's got to get rid of the football.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_05]: And we don't know if that's going to be the case this year with, uh, with that defensive line.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_05]: But I like camel just to answer your question.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_05]: I think this kid, I think he's got the potential.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_05]: Good, good year.
- 59:17[SPEAKER_05]: So I'm excited about Tyson Campbell.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_03]: Top talk, how about this?
- 59:20[SPEAKER_03]: Like in the fallout from the Miles Garrett thing, there were a lot of people asking questions about Denzel Ward's future in Cleveland, just because he's a vet on the roster.
- 59:29[SPEAKER_03]: He's going to be in line for a new contract at some point here.
- 59:32[SPEAKER_03]: There are a lot of people saying, well, maybe if Andrew Barry got a second round pick for Denzel Ward, they'd flip them.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe if it's not right now, could be closer to that
- 59:42[SPEAKER_03]: Where do you come out on that?
- 59:44[SPEAKER_03]: I'm kind of the belief like you've got all of these draft picks because you traded back these last couple years You traded miles Garrett like you need some veterans on the roster at some point right like I get that it's a roster of a lot of you know 21 22 year olds and Denzel might be getting close to getting the age out of that it would just stink to lose a dude like him
- 1:00:04[SPEAKER_05]: Well, and I think about it, you know, I set up and say, how many draft choice of draft picks do you need?
- 1:00:10[SPEAKER_05]: You exactly right.
- 1:00:11[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, we have a ton of them right now.
- 1:00:13[SPEAKER_05]: I think we're also in position to say, if one of those quarterbacks doesn't come out and doesn't be a clear number one, you know, we still have enough picks where we can make, we can make a move here.
- 1:00:25[SPEAKER_05]: But I agree with you, as far as Dan Zell, if he's healthy, I mean, there's no one better.
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, as far as a cup of corner, his problem is he just can't stay healthy or, and, and, and, and, and, and, you know, I, I, I, I laugh and I,
- 1:00:43[SPEAKER_05]: Tell many all the time I said all Denzel need to do is just quit trying to tackle just go ahead and cover You know understand the tackling part, but that's just a joke, but tackling part is part of being a defensive back.
- 1:00:56[SPEAKER_05]: So I just I think we have the potential of having two shut down corners.
- 1:01:04[SPEAKER_05]: Me too, but again
- 1:01:06[SPEAKER_05]: all that trade rumor we hear it all the time I mean the chatter is out there all the time in my fear is if if the season doesn't get off to a great no that chatter is only gonna get louder is that that loud or it's gonna get louder and people are not just I mean we're just not here in this for nothing right I mean I
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_05]: I think if someone come and offer them the right thing, I think they'll make that move in a heartbeat.
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_05]: But you and I, I don't want to see, I'm like you, I don't want to see them make that move.
- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_05]: I want to keep Denzel.
- 1:01:34[SPEAKER_05]: I think we really need him.
- 1:01:35[SPEAKER_05]: Again, the key was, especially now that Miles Garrett is no longer part of these defense, because we're going to have to cover a little bit longer now.
- 1:01:45[SPEAKER_00]: You know, now that you've been talking about covering longer and these guys are pretty fast, this is my segue for a really nerdy track shout out.
- 1:01:53[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I know Hanford, you probably knew about this.
- 1:01:55[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know about the other fellas in the room, but the world record for the mile was just broken by Josh Kurt out of great Britain.
- 1:02:03[SPEAKER_00]: Did you see the news about that?
- 1:02:04[SPEAKER_05]: I did, I did, Gabby, and believe it or not, when I saw this, I thought of you because I know you're a big track, you love track, and you love to run, but Nick, guys, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time, we need a time
- 1:02:22[SPEAKER_05]: I think it was like 3.46 or something like 3.4.3313.
- 1:02:25[SPEAKER_05]: Listen to me.
- 1:02:27[SPEAKER_05]: No, no, sorry.
- 1:02:28[SPEAKER_00]: No, 3.42.
- 1:02:29[SPEAKER_00]: That was a funny broke.
- 1:02:31[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 1:02:31[SPEAKER_00]: He ran a 3.42.
- 1:02:33[SPEAKER_00]: 66.
- 1:02:33[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 1:02:34[SPEAKER_05]: And I can even drive a mile that far.
- 1:02:36[SPEAKER_05]: That is fair.
- 1:02:38[SPEAKER_00]: The reason I'm fascinated is because I know, didn't you run track?
- 1:02:40[SPEAKER_05]: Listen, it is.
- 1:02:41[SPEAKER_05]: Listen, it is.
- 1:02:43[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, but I hate it to I hate it try.
- 1:02:45[SPEAKER_05]: I know everybody does and nobody likes to 400 when And when I came and they gave me this little list of everything I had to do and brag like you guys have lost your mind I don't want anything to do with this but listen to this guys one thing we had to do
- 1:03:02[SPEAKER_05]: as part of our test, the conditioning test when we came back and in college and also we had to do it in pro.
- 1:03:12[SPEAKER_05]: We had to run a mile and in that mile we had to do the mile was part of it, but we had to do it under six minutes.
- 1:03:20[SPEAKER_05]: I understand.
- 1:03:21[SPEAKER_05]: Listen to me.
- 1:03:22[SPEAKER_05]: When you hear that this with this guy ran in in three,
- 1:03:26[SPEAKER_05]: three forty two three forty six.
- 1:03:29[SPEAKER_05]: I was having a problem running the goddamn thing in six minutes I made it but I tell you there's it was like it was like five fifty nine or something like whatever was barely Making it so that's all I when when I heard when I watched him and I heard what he did and the time that he Yeah, I was like wow
- 1:03:48[SPEAKER_03]: in a six minute mile like for people that aren't familiar like a six minute mile you're flying you're you're you're sprinting a six minute mile so like to do it in three to draw it in three forty two like it takes me three minutes and forty whatever seconds to just think about going to the
- 1:04:19[SPEAKER_00]: But honestly, there's so many people that were faster than me.
- 1:04:24[SPEAKER_00]: I was never going to keep training because I know all the work it takes to be where Josh got.
- 1:04:30[SPEAKER_00]: But what I think is crazy now is as a track nerd and someone who can appreciate mid-distance.
- 1:04:36[SPEAKER_00]: He basically really did.
- 1:04:37[SPEAKER_00]: He's testing the limits of man because his average 400 split was like around 55 seconds.
- 1:04:44[SPEAKER_00]: which I know that you know men can run a super fast quarter split.
- 1:04:49[SPEAKER_00]: So like I think the fastest women in the Olympics may be run like a 49 regardless all I'm all I'm saying is to run what he ran each quarter in and of itself feels like the dude is just for a
- 1:05:02[SPEAKER_03]: Andrew Barry's gonna put a helmet on him and say go learn receiver even if he's never even caught a football before that's what's next But I'll say this.
- 1:05:10[SPEAKER_05]: I mean hats off to him because that was unbelievable for Crazy before I get out of here.
- 1:05:16[SPEAKER_05]: Did you you guys watch the soccer?
- 1:05:18[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah the soccer was on Did you watch the final I didn't watch the whole thing?
- 1:05:23[SPEAKER_02]: I thought it was uh you had it out on it
- 1:05:32[SPEAKER_02]: No, I didn't think it was script.
- 1:05:34[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I hear a lot of people talking about the being scripted, but no, for me, it was exactly what soccer is.
- 1:05:41[SPEAKER_02]: You know, there's a whole lot of kicking and not a whole lot of scoring, and that's what we saw.
- 1:05:45[SPEAKER_02]: You saw Spain on the attack just about the entire time, which is wild.
- 1:05:48[SPEAKER_02]: Argentina and I didn't even get in the shot on goal, which was...
- 1:05:51[SPEAKER_02]: Just blew my mind.
- 1:05:53[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's like Brown's ask type of play.
- 1:05:55[SPEAKER_02]: When you go for 90 minutes and not even get a shot on goal and then extra time, that was that was incredible, but it didn't build for just an exciting end for me watching it, you know, I could take or leave everything up to that point, you know, because nothing really happened, but then it really built to a nice crescendo at the end.
- 1:06:12[SPEAKER_02]: So,
- 1:06:13[SPEAKER_02]: hey it was overall i thought it was a great world cup you know i watch several games i watch obviously the u.s.a and then on top of that took in a few more games and you know i thought it was a nice final that was fun and now we'll do it again in four years right guys i have a confessing i have a confession
- 1:06:29[SPEAKER_03]: It's so hard for me to get into this man.
- 1:06:31[SPEAKER_03]: How do these the you know these Europeans these breads?
- 1:06:34[SPEAKER_03]: They have the audacity they call that football.
- 1:06:38[SPEAKER_03]: I get it cuz you're kicking it around It's so like I'm sitting there trying not to fall asleep watching it.
- 1:06:44[SPEAKER_03]: It's tough
- 1:06:45[SPEAKER_02]: game people come over here and watch baseball and say, how do you guys play baseball?
- 1:06:49[SPEAKER_02]: How do you watch this?
- 1:06:50[SPEAKER_02]: You say, that's the game.
- 1:06:51[SPEAKER_02]: That's the way it is.
- 1:06:52[SPEAKER_02]: So I appreciate it for what it is every four years.
- 1:06:55[SPEAKER_02]: That's fine.
- 1:06:56[SPEAKER_02]: And I'll support the crew when they're up here and they're down no matter what.
- 1:06:59[SPEAKER_02]: But at the end of the day, the game is what the game is, Nick.
- 1:07:02[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, the crew, it's a little bit easier for me to get into because I've been down there and we've had so many, you know, we've had a number of the players on the show and stuff like that, but, but do just like watching it on TV and the monotony of like the, the back and forth and you said it like throughout that whole match, they didn't even put a shot up on the goal, the ball just stayed on the same side of the field the whole time.
- 1:07:24[SPEAKER_03]: What do you guys think?
- 1:07:26[SPEAKER_05]: What do you guys think of Messi's crying?
- 1:07:28[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, did you you have a problem with that or did you see him cry the end?
- 1:07:34[SPEAKER_05]: That's kind of what I was wondering if the end for him is kind of what I was wondering.
- 1:07:38[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, he was he was crying at the end.
- 1:07:41[SPEAKER_05]: He was very very emotional, but I don't know.
- 1:07:45[SPEAKER_05]: I thought that was a little
- 1:07:47[SPEAKER_05]: uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh
- 1:08:09[SPEAKER_05]: Hey, don't talk about that.
- 1:08:12[SPEAKER_05]: You guys are not going to have me talk about them today, but I will talk about LeBron.
- 1:08:16[SPEAKER_05]: It's time for a decision, guys.
- 1:08:18[SPEAKER_05]: What do you think?
- 1:08:19[SPEAKER_00]: Call your shot, Top Dog.
- 1:08:20[SPEAKER_05]: What do you think?
- 1:08:21[SPEAKER_05]: I think he's coming here.
- 1:08:22[SPEAKER_05]: What do you think?
- 1:08:23[SPEAKER_00]: We think that too.
- 1:08:24[SPEAKER_03]: Well.
- 1:08:25[SPEAKER_03]: We think that too, but it is weird that every growing day, it's like how long we're gonna stretch this long for Brown here like a world cup over.
- 1:08:35[SPEAKER_03]: We're talking about regular season baseball.
- 1:08:38[SPEAKER_03]: We don't have until first week of August till baseball trade deadline like if there were ever a time right now would be a good one.
- 1:08:45[SPEAKER_05]: You know, he's trying to control all the narratives.
- 1:08:48[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, he's just LeBron wouldn't be LeBron if he was not
- 1:08:53[SPEAKER_05]: He's just he's holding up the NBA schedule right now because they're waiting for him to make a make a decision So but I hope he comes here.
- 1:09:02[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, I can really see him coming back here finishing up his career back here and Clayton, they talk about Miami.
- 1:09:08[SPEAKER_05]: They talk about
- 1:09:10[SPEAKER_05]: Some other teams that obviously that's in the running, but I just can't see it.
- 1:09:14[SPEAKER_05]: I think you'll come right back here and Be home where his mom and everybody can come to the game.
- 1:09:20[SPEAKER_05]: So I'll just be happy.
- 1:09:22[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I mean, I either way I'll be happy for him But I want him to come back to Cleveland.
- 1:09:27[SPEAKER_05]: I just think that'll be
- 1:09:29[SPEAKER_05]: That'll be great.
- 1:09:31[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see.
- 1:09:31[SPEAKER_00]: We've been on LeBron watch.
- 1:09:33[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll have to be checking in.
- 1:09:34[SPEAKER_00]: We'll check in with you next week.
- 1:09:36[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for watching.
- 1:09:36[SPEAKER_00]: Big, big leave it.
- 1:09:37[SPEAKER_00]: We gotta take a quick break.
- 1:09:39[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be back more right after this.
- 1:09:41[SPEAKER_03]: The Big Play Cleveland show is brought to you live every day.
- 1:09:44[SPEAKER_03]: Buy your friends at Fandle.
- 1:09:47[SPEAKER_03]: soccer is mercifully over, but right now, daily dinners rolling on with our friends at Fandwell, who's gonna hit a home run today, Tanner Bibi on the mound against Joe Ryan, for the Minnesota twins, feels like a potential, really fun day for Manzo to put one in the seat,
- 1:10:09[SPEAKER_03]: Chase the water plus 3,000.
- 1:10:12[SPEAKER_03]: Go on to that Fandwell sports book at visit fandwell.com slash big play.
- 1:10:18[SPEAKER_03]: Get started.
- 1:10:19[SPEAKER_03]: Now, 21 plus and select states for Kansas in affiliation with Kansas star casino 18 plus in DC, Kentucky, Wyoming, gambling problem, call 1-800 gambler or 1-800 my reset.
- 1:10:33[SPEAKER_00]: All right, and we just concluded the world cup we got into it a little bit with Hanford there.
- 1:10:37[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how much you guys actually ended up watching over the course of the world cup, but as Spain brings home the trophy, they big score, beating Argentina and Messi, one nothing.
- 1:10:51[SPEAKER_00]: Did you think that the world cup or do you think the world cup is the most exciting international competition?
- 1:10:57[SPEAKER_00]: Like if you had to pick, we got Olympics, Ryder Cup.
- 1:11:01[SPEAKER_00]: Let's do a couple others.
- 1:11:02[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry guys.
- 1:11:03[SPEAKER_02]: I don't mean to jump all over my way, Nick.
- 1:11:06[SPEAKER_02]: I got a question for you.
- 1:11:08[SPEAKER_02]: You can watch more of the world cup or summer league.
- 1:11:12[SPEAKER_02]: Summer league.
- 1:11:13[SPEAKER_02]: That's yeah.
- 1:11:13[SPEAKER_03]: I knew that was going to be here.
- 1:11:14[SPEAKER_02]: I watched every cast.
- 1:11:16[SPEAKER_03]: I watched every
- 1:11:21[SPEAKER_03]: who they have found Tyre's halibutten in the second round.
- 1:11:24[SPEAKER_02]: Ooh, that's what everybody's talking about right now.
- 1:11:26[SPEAKER_03]: Could they have, I mean, I mean, because we've seen good summer leagues before from guys.
- 1:11:31[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we have, and, you know, some of those guys turned into good NBA players, Dean Wade, good NBA player, Sam Merrill, good NBA player, you know, summer league kind of is the breeding ground for that, but Malik Thomas did it with like such consistency,
- 1:11:47[SPEAKER_03]: and it makes you feel really good because like that's the dude that the Cavs really wanted.
- 1:11:52[SPEAKER_03]: Like the Cavs were gonna draft him in the first round, but then they, you know, were able to get that future second round pick.
- 1:11:58[SPEAKER_03]: They drifted back a couple spots into the second round and then they're able to select him there.
- 1:12:03[SPEAKER_03]: guys it wouldn't surprise me if if we see like a little bit of Malik Thomas the same way we saw some retirees proctor last year maybe a little bit more Malik Thomas like you like you need scoring in the modern NBA and you need length and like even though he is an undersized guard quote I quote like dude he was checking the boxes for me like he looked really good out there I did I watched way more NBA summer league than I watched World Cup.
- 1:12:29[SPEAKER_02]: I laid the plank you could walk across the boat and hijack this conversation about the world cup right now.
- 1:12:35[SPEAKER_02]: I knew that was going to be your answer.
- 1:12:37[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't watch this tournament at all guys like between like getting married and then the honeymoon and then when we got back like we had so much to catch up on like I watched a little bit of U.S. men's national team
- 1:12:49[SPEAKER_03]: I, you know, yesterday we were kind of straightening up the house.
- 1:12:52[SPEAKER_03]: The soccer was in the background.
- 1:12:54[SPEAKER_03]: Cam had like, I think Cam had like 75 cents left in her fan door account.
- 1:12:59[SPEAKER_03]: She put it on Argentina just to feel a little bit of something and now it's completely gone.
- 1:13:04[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, we were hoping for Massey, you know, to see the goat do it.
- 1:13:09[SPEAKER_03]: I do like high level competition in any sport, but the soccer just does not get it done for me at all.
- 1:13:17[SPEAKER_03]: and I know that's unpopular because there are a lot of like people that tune into this religiously and even like I'm not a huge hockey guy like that's that's pretty well known like you know any time you're going back and forth and not scoring goal it feels really counterintuitive but like I'll watch Olympic hockey like we just had this four nations face off like
- 1:13:34[SPEAKER_04]: That was fun.
- 1:13:35[SPEAKER_03]: That my adrenaline was bumping through that because like at least there's a little bit of action that takes play like I'll go to a monster's game Like there's at least a little bit of action that takes place In hockey the Olympaic man.
- 1:13:47[SPEAKER_03]: I have all world baseball classic like I feel bad I'm just like lambasting the entire event this whole segment.
- 1:13:53[SPEAKER_03]: It's just not for me how about that?
- 1:13:57[SPEAKER_02]: The world cup only comes around what once every four years, right?
- 1:14:00[SPEAKER_02]: So since 99, we've had seven of them.
- 1:14:03[SPEAKER_02]: Since 99, we've had three times the Browns are in the playoffs.
- 1:14:06[SPEAKER_02]: So the Browns and the playoffs are way more special than the World Cup, right?
- 1:14:10[SPEAKER_03]: Like, buy the numbers.
- 1:14:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, I didn't numbers.
- 1:14:13[SPEAKER_03]: So we got four years.
- 1:14:14[SPEAKER_03]: It's in Spain four years from now.
- 1:14:16[SPEAKER_03]: Is that right?
- 1:14:18[SPEAKER_03]: Is that I think they get to try to defend it in front of their home crowd or whatever I'm curious to see I will say just as a fan of sports I'm curious to see like if you as like if the US like will we evolve closer to that world cup or is like what we saw this year is that like the height of US soccer I am curious to see that in four years
- 1:14:40[SPEAKER_02]: There's always that conversation.
- 1:14:42[SPEAKER_02]: Every four years, we're going to have that conversation about how this stimulated everybody to go out and play a soccer and how we're going to be even better next time we come back because all these use all watch the games and they're now excited about soccer and we're going to see that happen.
- 1:14:55[SPEAKER_02]: And it never quite comes to fruition.
- 1:14:57[SPEAKER_03]: Well, hey, why are you ready for why?
- 1:15:00[SPEAKER_03]: because if there's a kid that's out there, this is the truth, if there's a kid that's out there that is good on the soccer field, they say, put a football jersey on, put a basketball jersey on, put a baseball jersey on, we have three sports in the USA that are more popular than soccer.
- 1:15:17[SPEAKER_03]: So at those early, formidable days, we're across the pond, you show promise and sport.
- 1:15:22[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, you're playing soccer, which over there is football, because that's their religion.
- 1:15:28[SPEAKER_03]: over here you show a little promise in soccer in your last days, but I'm going to be inclined to put you in a basketball uniform.
- 1:15:36[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to be inclined to put you in a baseball uniform.
- 1:15:39[SPEAKER_03]: Um, and I do think really that's what's hurt American soccer, not just like right now that's that's been true for four decades, five decades.
- 1:15:48[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I think and I've heard that argument before and I'll give it a little bit of credence, but there's also the part where
- 1:15:54[SPEAKER_02]: These soccer players get picked and put on tracks so young.
- 1:15:59[SPEAKER_02]: There isn't really the high school team doesn't really exist.
- 1:16:02[SPEAKER_02]: By the time they get to high school, they've already been picked.
- 1:16:04[SPEAKER_02]: They've already been moved on.
- 1:16:05[SPEAKER_02]: The college game is completely different because that's always the second tier.
- 1:16:10[SPEAKER_02]: Because all of these select players are already going around the country by the time they're in their teens,
- 1:16:15[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, the American palette is for the college game or, you know, the minors of some sort and watching some semblance of these guys coming up.
- 1:16:24[SPEAKER_02]: We were just talking about watching some early NBA, right?
- 1:16:27[SPEAKER_02]: And following that draft, that didn't used to be a thing.
- 1:16:29[SPEAKER_02]: Now we see that.
- 1:16:31[SPEAKER_02]: You see them coming up through college.
- 1:16:32[SPEAKER_02]: You see them going directly from high school, but they're at least playing in high school.
- 1:16:36[SPEAKER_02]: going to the the NBA game in football.
- 1:16:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's much more pronounced.
- 1:16:41[SPEAKER_02]: You see them kind of advanced.
- 1:16:43[SPEAKER_02]: You don't see it in soccer because their hand picked from an early age and they kind of pass on either They go to a different sport or they get passed on and then automatically go into this machine and get shot out the other end And you really don't see that development on any end because you don't see it in major league soccer.
- 1:16:59[SPEAKER_02]: You just don't so
- 1:17:00[SPEAKER_02]: it's kind of more of an invisible hand over here in the US than what I think it is in other countries where they really get behind their smaller teams.
- 1:17:08[SPEAKER_02]: And so I think that's an uphill challenge that, you know, every kid really does start off playing soccer.
- 1:17:13[SPEAKER_02]: At least, you know, deep ice soccer.
- 1:17:16[SPEAKER_02]: My kids start off playing soccer.
- 1:17:18[SPEAKER_02]: And then they forgot about soccer.
- 1:17:19[SPEAKER_02]: They started playing baseball.
- 1:17:21[SPEAKER_02]: They started playing football.
- 1:17:22[SPEAKER_02]: They started playing basketball.
- 1:17:23[SPEAKER_02]: And that was the end of soccer.
- 1:17:24[SPEAKER_02]: But they all started playing soccer.
- 1:17:26[SPEAKER_02]: But then they kind of move on after that.
- 1:17:28[SPEAKER_03]: I played it through middle school like I played like Garfield Heights City Scott soccer through middle So actually maybe through my freshman year of high school, but then like it comes a point where you pick what sports your series about And for me it was basketball and then my ice picked a spring sport in tennis and and like yeah like by my senior year High school like there was never even a thought about going out for soccer ever
- 1:17:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we make soccer a little uncool.
- 1:17:54[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's just because we lack the culture.
- 1:17:56[SPEAKER_00]: You know, maybe we need to appreciate more of the culture and that's why the world of the cup really does it for us.
- 1:18:00[SPEAKER_00]: It brings all of us together and we get back to our roots.
- 1:18:02[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll do it up as the excitement from around the globe.
- 1:18:06[SPEAKER_02]: And there's something to be said for that.
- 1:18:08[SPEAKER_02]: I was making the analogy to baseball before.
- 1:18:10[SPEAKER_02]: And for you to go out and watch a baseball game for what it is, it's like, okay, I don't understand why people really get into this, right?
- 1:18:17[SPEAKER_02]: But if you understand the culture around baseball, you really understand the game, then you can get into it.
- 1:18:22[SPEAKER_02]: And I think it's very similar to soccer, whereas you've got a game like football, football is very easy to get.
- 1:18:28[SPEAKER_02]: You can just kind of like be an ale that is true.
- 1:18:30[SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
- 1:18:31[SPEAKER_02]: And say, OK, these are guys beating the crap out.
- 1:18:34[SPEAKER_03]: You need to know our chances to get 10 yards.
- 1:18:36[SPEAKER_03]: Like, yeah, and some fun, crazy stuff will happen in the middle.
- 1:18:40[SPEAKER_03]: That is a good point.
- 1:18:41[SPEAKER_02]: There's not a whole lot there where a soccer, it's like, OK, that guy's faking an entry.
- 1:18:44[SPEAKER_02]: What is this real?
- 1:18:45[SPEAKER_02]: Is this fake?
- 1:18:46[SPEAKER_02]: What is going on out here?
- 1:18:47[SPEAKER_02]: I don't understand everything around the chance and everything else.
- 1:18:50[SPEAKER_02]: If you really grew up in it, you'd really appreciate it, whereas if you just kind of teleport in every four years, you get excited for a little bit as you kind of figure out the game a little bit.
- 1:19:01[SPEAKER_02]: and then maybe it comes back, maybe it doesn't for you in four years, but we'll see.
- 1:19:05[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see.
- 1:19:06[SPEAKER_02]: I think U.S.A. soccer is building toward something.
- 1:19:09[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't think that every four years, all of a sudden we get this big jump on it, that people think that we do.
- 1:19:16[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 1:19:16[SPEAKER_03]: Well, that's enough soccer talk for the next four years.
- 1:19:19[SPEAKER_00]: Well, but I was going to say, well, my jersey in another four years.
- 1:19:23[SPEAKER_00]: We're all wrapped up with Big Play Cleveland.
- 1:19:25[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks, Chris, and we will see you tomorrow.
- 1:19:27[SPEAKER_00]: Tune in tomorrow.
