- 0:09SPEAKER_01: Man, if I do this, what I know now?
- 0:11SPEAKER_01: The podcast.
- 0:13SPEAKER_01: We got another special guest.
- 0:16SPEAKER_01: We got another special guest, man, in the building right now.
- 0:19SPEAKER_01: Clap it up.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: My boy Wade, laying on the camera.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna clap it.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: Miss Coolie, Cooley!
- 0:28unknown: Coolie.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: We got Miss Cooley in the building, y'all.
- 0:32SPEAKER_03: Such a wonderful woman, man.
- 0:33SPEAKER_03: Such an honor to have you, Miss Cooley.
- 0:34SPEAKER_03: We like it.
- 0:35SPEAKER_03: Such a privilege.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: So today's episode is gonna be all about her, what she got going on.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: Um, she's a political person, I guess that's how you know what I'm saying.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: We call her political.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: She's political, she's in the politics, you know.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: A lot of people don't know who this is.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: A lot of people might not know what she stands for, what she does.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: Uh you're gonna find out today.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: A lot of people, my age, from the age of 30 down to 25 or 18, all the way up to 30, 35, you know, we don't really get into too many politics like that, you know.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: So this is gonna be a real good, insightful podcast to put your own game on what's going on in the area and um who you should be voting for.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: This is what this podcast is.
- 1:13SPEAKER_03: I'm excited, uh, Ms.
- 1:14SPEAKER_03: Cool, that you're here because um, you like he said, Corey, like a lot of younger ones don't really know about you know politics and different things.
- 1:20SPEAKER_03: Um, because you know, we always look at, you know, vote for the president, but it's such such the smaller things that we need to be voting for to make a change in our community.
- 1:27SPEAKER_03: So tell us a little bit about yourself and what you know, who you are.
- 1:30SPEAKER_03: Who is me?
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Okay, my name is Elizabeth Cooley, and as you know, and I want the people to know, um, I am um a candidate for South Carolina House.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: I am a candidate for South Carolina House District 7, House of Representatives.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: So um this I'm gonna tell you a little bit about myself that I'm a servant, so I've always been from the beginning having a job, I always have two or three jobs.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: But that's the part because some of it is good giving back.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: So that's uh another thing.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: So, you know, working, uh did not go to school, go to college, my grandparents reared me, and I like that's enough.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: Once I got into the work I need a little bit something, something.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: So I went back to school and um I mean really go back to school at night, so I was going to Limestone College and Gaffney, but they had sites and different places that you could go to, so that's when I earned my degree and uh my bachelor's degree there, and then wanted a little bit more, so I went back again and worked on my master's and started on my doctoral, but due to family and loving family, I like somebody gotta take care of this grandchild.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Right, right.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: So that's how it started.
- 2:58SPEAKER_03: Sounds like you did a lot, a lot of schooling.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Yes, and I do believe in education.
- 3:03SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 3:04SPEAKER_03: Education is really big.
- 3:05SPEAKER_03: And you said doctoral, so I know there was a lot of writing.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: It was started, like I say, back then I didn't know what all the chat and room and how to do all the work.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: But again, with anything, even this position, you have to learn as you go sometime.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: So that's that's what it's all about.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: Marriage for I'm not gonna tell you all the years, but many years.
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: Many years.
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: Clap it over there, married many years, yeah.
- 3:30unknown: Many years.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: Wait a clap back for it.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: So that that's pretty much like say involved in the church and um different uh uh auxiliaries and boards.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: So I I like to give back.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: I like to know what's going on in the community.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: Yes, ma'am.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: Awesome, awesome.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: Wait, wait, let me do start real quick.
- 3:51SPEAKER_03: Are we good?
- 3:53SPEAKER_03: Well, we're excited, we're excited about everything that you're doing in the community.
- 3:56SPEAKER_03: And um, me and your me and Corey ourselves, we we're really big in the community.
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: We do different things in the community, but we're all for the community and for the community growing and changing and developing.
- 4:05SPEAKER_03: So we're gonna ask you some uh amazing questions today about about your leadership and you know what you're planning to do because we we're excited that you know uh for everything that she's gonna be doing, right, bro?
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: Where did you did you grow up?
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: Are you from around here or from Edison?
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: I have always been here from day one in this area.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: And my jobs, you know, have to go where your jobs are somewhere, but always have lived here.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: So that's why you can't tell me some things.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: Like I've been here since the beginning.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: I know what's here.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: I know when they had three red lights in Belton, and all we have is one now.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: I mean, two now.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: They took one away.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: So I pretty much know all what's going on.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay, cool.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: Do you got any children?
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: I do.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: I have uh three children.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: It's gonna tell some time here now, so I have to guess on it.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: So that's say five grand.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: No, I got some uh my other ones too.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: So I need to say eight uh grandchildren and two great-grand.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: Oh, gotcha.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: That's your husband right there.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: Husband is in the house.
- 5:19SPEAKER_03: They've been married for many, many years.
- 5:21SPEAKER_03: Many months.
- 5:21SPEAKER_03: So that's always a blessing.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, I'm really interested to see what's going on.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: Um about to get into this thing.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, this is a non-sugar coated podcast.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: We keep it real in here, you know.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: Talk about what you want to talk about, voice your opinion on what you want to voice your opinion on.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: Um like I said, I personally, like I know, like a lot a lot of others, don't know much about the politicians or the politics in the area of what's going on.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: So I'm I'm looking forward to, you know, saying, see if uh you can win over a vote.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: Right now, I'm I'm I'm vote list because I don't know who to vote for.
- 5:54SPEAKER_03: We're praying by the end of this vibe, he's gonna know who to vote for.
- 5:56SPEAKER_03: We're gonna see what's going on.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: And I want to say thank you all for what you all are doing.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: Um, like I said, I had to do podcast.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: Well, what are you doing?
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: But that is getting information, uh from as you say, real talk.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, direct information.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: People, you know, you're doing it in commute on the community.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: All three of you all are working in the community.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: So I'm honored just to be here.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: Yes, ma'am.
- 6:20SPEAKER_03: We really appreciate you.
- 6:21SPEAKER_03: Also, the first question we have for you is we're gonna ask a few leadership questions involved around your leadership, because we know that's a big part of what you're doing, you know, being a present leader in the community.
- 6:31SPEAKER_03: So, what makes you the right person to represent District 7?
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: Okay, as we just started, I've been in this area.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: Yes, ma'am.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: So my my area consists of uh Belton, Honeyopath, um, Anderson, parts of Anderson, Iva, uh, it's a part of Greenville and Avaville.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: I have worked or came some type of way in all these communities.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: Yes, ma'am.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: I left out a part of my job that some people call me the insurance lady or the 401k lady.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: So I have traveled, had a lot of sandwiches in my car working in all these areas.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: So some of these, like I say, it's not like I'm reading up on what's going on in Honeypath.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: I I'm I'm in Honey Path.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: So that that's that's part of it.
- 7:22SPEAKER_03: So it's like you you your your leadership ability is based upon not not everything you know, but who you are in the community.
- 7:29SPEAKER_03: You know, I I I am Honey Path.
- 7:31SPEAKER_03: I am better than the person.
- 7:32SPEAKER_03: I am Anderson.
- 7:33SPEAKER_03: I like the fact when she was like, you know, I think about Corey How he grinds, he grinds so hard sometimes, and it shows how much work ethic ethic you have to have sandwiches in the car.
- 7:42SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 7:43SPEAKER_03: Because he does the same thing.
- 7:44SPEAKER_03: He'll eat a meal on the go.
- 7:45SPEAKER_03: Uh eat a meal on the go.
- 7:47SPEAKER_03: He got to fix his plate.
- 7:48SPEAKER_03: Man, they gotta, you know, he's trying to make movies, stay moving, just wide open.
- 7:51SPEAKER_03: So most definitely, we appreciate the answer.
- 7:53SPEAKER_03: Um what is um one thing you believe the current uh leg leg I can't even say it legislature?
- 8:05SPEAKER_03: What is the current legislation you believe the current legislature is getting wrong?
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: I still say it wrong.
- 8:13SPEAKER_03: I can't say that word.
- 8:14SPEAKER_03: That's okay.
- 8:17SPEAKER_03: L E G L E leg.
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: Legislature.
- 8:20SPEAKER_03: Leg to put it on leg.
- 8:22SPEAKER_03: What is one thing you believe that the current leg is getting wrong?
- 8:25SPEAKER_03: Legislation.
- 8:26SPEAKER_03: Leg legislation.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: Yes, it's definitely wrong still.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: But go ahead.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: I I feel like in the beginning we all when they all have a heart and to serve.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: But sometimes you forget who put you in that position.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: And I just feel like, you know, don't forget us.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: Um, that's where you how you got there.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: We believed in you.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: We we saw you then, but we want to see you now.
- 8:54SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 8:55SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: So you think they they get to a point where they they forget who the the people are or something like that, or they forgetting like, like you said, who got who got you there, like you think they getting kind of like out of touch out of touch for the the reason why they there?
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: I I believe that they're so involved in why they're there that they forget who is still back there.
- 9:20SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 9:20SPEAKER_03: So it's pretty much like now that I've arrived and I got in the seat, I've forgotten the community that got me there.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: I believe that's most of what I've been hearing because I've been walking the street too.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: And and when they ask the name, do you know who this name who do know?
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: They don't.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: And they may not know my name, but still, it's it's some good politicians.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: And like do they do work.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: They come back.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: But the main thing I'm hearing is you've forgotten us.
- 9:46SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: Uh you know, I I'm in the grocery store, I'm picking up bread and say, okay, two months ago this bread wasn't this high, or two months ago the peanut butter wasn't this high.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: I I actually go in the store myself.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: I don't have anybody pick it up.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: Once you get where you are, I don't have anybody go shopping for me.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: You got boozy out here in the street.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: I'm wasting more gas going to three different grocery stores trying to see what's the cheapest price, lower price.
- 10:16SPEAKER_03: Man, that blows my mind.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: And it shows your heart to say that, man, because I just got to pause right there for a minute because you got to think about how many leaders, and you know, sometimes in the podcast we'll we'll straight away in conversation, but um, you got you think about how many leaders um out here in the community, you know, they like, oh, we need you, we need your vote, we need your vote, we need your vote.
- 10:33SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna, I'm gonna stand, I'm gonna show y'all the change.
- 10:37SPEAKER_03: And then because they got some sort of power, it's like now we're not worried about the community anymore.
- 10:43SPEAKER_03: And like I think a lot of times, like people feel the way like you said they do.
- 10:47SPEAKER_03: Like, hey, we're suffering out here, we need change, but like what are you doing?
- 10:50SPEAKER_03: Like, where's your face in the community to promote that change?
- 10:53SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: You ever thought about it like that, bro?
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I see exactly what you're saying.
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: Who who currently is run is in office?
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: Can you Google that way?
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: Who is who currently holds the district seven seat?
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: The current um uh uh gentleman that holds this seat is Lee Gilreef.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: Lee Gilbreef.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: Lee Gilreef.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: I go by leave.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: And um, like I say, I'm not here to put him down or whatever, but I'm here to take a spot, though, right?
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: But I'm ready to take a spot and I'm ready to relay what I am hearing from the people who don't know his name.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: How long?
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: Do you know how long he's been there?
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: I want to say this is like say he, I think he went in in 24.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: Uh this is a two-year term, so it's still new and things gotta be done.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: Is he running again for it?
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: Like trying to.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: So what what if you had to say it?
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: I'm going, it's probably one of my questions.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: If you had to say to the people out there that might be on Lee's side right now or looking to vote for him again, why should they flip the vote?
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: Why should if you had to just name maybe one point or two quick points or three quick points, why they should vote for Miss Cooley instead of somebody who's been doing this for two years now?
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: Is this your first time running?
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: So why should they switch to somebody who's their first time running versus somebody who's been in the game for two years now, at least that we know of in the seat that he's currently in?
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: Why should they flip and vote for Miss Cooley?
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: Why should she why should she come take over?
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: Great question.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: Uh while they should, they should know your name.
- 12:22SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: That's that's one thing.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: And then I feel there's a responsibility to connect back to the people.
- 12:32SPEAKER_03: Yes, ma'am.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: By having a town hall or whatever.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: Like I just had a meet and greet.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: It doesn't have to be anything elaborate.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: It's just like what's on your mind, what's going on?
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: Let me shake your hand, kiss the baby head, like they used to do back in the day on the thing.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: But that that's some of the things.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: And and a lot of things, like I say, things have changed even in two years.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: Yes, ma'am.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: Um, I've ran over this pothole a couple of times here, and my car is out of alignment, if I'm saying that right.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: Uh like legislature.
- 13:04SPEAKER_03: Legislature, yeah.
- 13:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:05SPEAKER_03: I still can't say legislature.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: But you know, just visit.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: And I'm sure he's here, but it's a difference when you're hitting this thing every day, and it's it's putting more money on your purse when you have to get a line, and then you have to do something else with the tires.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: Um, I won't go on that tire because I've seen on the side of the road one day when this person's tire just came off the car.
- 13:33SPEAKER_05: Right, right, right.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: And he said the only thing he remembered was hitting a pothole a couple days before then.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: So, you know, just look at these roles.
- 13:42SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 13:42SPEAKER_03: The roles are definitely crazy.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: So is that is that part, okay.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: That that leads me to my next question.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: Go ahead, bro.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: So my question is, what are your roles?
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: Like, if you was the win, what are you, what's your day-to-day task?
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: What's your duties?
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: Like, that's one question.
- 14:01SPEAKER_01: And then my next question is like, what are you specifically looking to change?
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: Like, what what era do you see, and what what's the correction to it?
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: You see what I'm saying?
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: Like, what can you do as a district seven?
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: Like, okay.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: What kind of power you got?
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: And and that's a great question as well, because a lot of, you know, some people say, Well, you're gonna do this, and what can you do about this check, and what can you do about infrastructure?
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: It's certain things that the house uh is in the state, they can do things with South Carolina.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: Okay, but there are other things that I have no way of controlling what the price of medicine and different things of that that have different people and different uh positions for different people to do things.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: But I think I've kind of almost forgot the second part, but the other part is like I say, when you get there, yeah, there's a large learning curve and things you have to put, but you have to be on where you have different um motions, I guess something you want to put in place.
- 14:58SPEAKER_03: Right, right, right.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: And you work with other people to kind of get that back for your people.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: So if if Belt and Honey Path Anderson is telling me, hey, um, health care, you know, my mom needs, she cannot go.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: There's no transportation and different things.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: I need to go and talk to someone and say, how can we get local rural?
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: Let me say use the word rule, yeah, health care.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: So there are different ways I will work with others to just trying to get where we can put something in place there.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: Bring the nurse to the community and house them in uh the schools so they help the children.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, I know they have a nurse in schools.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: Yes, ma'am.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: I know they have, but sometimes, you know, that child sees a lot of things that reflects in school what goes on at home.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: You have a sick parent and that child is in school.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: A lot of things I think there's more things that we can uh develop in our schools and uh system.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: And I think that was another part, and uh you refresh that.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, hold on.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: Go ahead, Wade.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: What you about to say?
- 16:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I got a question uh about basically, you know, being in the school district or whatever.
- 16:09SPEAKER_04: I know your role is probably uh helping out the schools, right?
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 16:13SPEAKER_04: So being that, you know, kids nowadays uh don't really like school as much.
- 16:18SPEAKER_04: What can you do about you know trying to keep kids and like educated and remain like I guess positive when it comes to like school nowadays?
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: They have to have funds, and a lot of schools do don't have the funding for different programs.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: But you may have seen, and I know I've seen where the why, you have to have partnerships with different things.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: Bring the why to you.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: Uh, how many kids can go to the why in Anderson after school or have transportation after mom gets home from work and trying to put food on the table?
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: And let me go back on there and say when mom, dad come home from work and put food on the table.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: Let me drag everybody in there.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: But that that's like I said, it's a lot of things go on in a child's mind that back in the day when I that it was just pretty much you go to school, you study, you come home and play with your friends and the dog, and that's about it.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: But as you we all know, it's a different world.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: So sometimes those children between parents may have to work three jobs now just to get that grocery bill.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: Um they may have to take on some duties and maybe s you know, not as rested as they should be.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: Now, other things they like you say, you can have volunteers to come in.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: Just get people to come in and and and I know a lady that she does come into school and just help with paperwork, uh the kids.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: Let's make sure they put in in the in the folders.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: So it's a lot of things that we as the community can do, uh, but that's what partnership with different peoples uh to get in.
- 17:53SPEAKER_03: Awesome.
- 17:54SPEAKER_03: Would you be willing to like, you know, get with um, you know, I don't know if anyone from District 5 board or, you know, you'll be doing you'll be serving der d several districts, correct?
- 18:02SPEAKER_03: Like if you or is it just when it comes to district seven, like is that I know all the like Belson is District 2 and it's district five.
- 18:10SPEAKER_03: Are you willing to do like different things in the community for the schools, like going to the schools, speaking, or organizing events and things like that to to kind of help bring everyone together?
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's something I do all the time since I've been in all the jobs I've had.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: All the jobs I've had to.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: But still, like you say, there's different things.
- 18:27SPEAKER_00: This county, um, county council is there to do things.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: But as the as the house representative, that's when the leaders come and share and say, You this is what we need in the school.
- 18:39SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: Um, our teachers, you know.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: Uh I I want to go way back, and I may get my hand slapped on this, but back in the day, like I say, there was like more than one or two teachers, they helped out each other.
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: Uh so it's a lot of children, so they need to one can kind of observe, and they do have um one and two in the class, you all probably can help me more on that.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: But still, there may be somebody else can sit and kind of observe that child.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: Going back to the child in our industry, are you getting enough food?
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: Are you getting enough rest?
- 19:12SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: Uh so those are more things that we can have more in the school to have to check on those children.
- 19:18SPEAKER_03: So basically, basically a program in place that you know, someone someone's job is to come in and check on the well-being of that child and make sure they're getting the rest, the food, all the things that they need.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because they may not tell the teacher, but somebody's uh come in that's not there, they're more likable to talk a little bit more.
- 19:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:38SPEAKER_03: That's good, because I I I know some educators and um you hear things like that in the schools where you there are children who you know are hungry, you know, they don't get fed as well.
- 19:47SPEAKER_03: They you know, they come in tired, they you know, they haven't slept all night because of maybe situations that they've been facing at home.
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 19:53SPEAKER_03: So I think they'd be very beneficial to have someone like that come in and do to do that.
- 19:57SPEAKER_03: Um I was making it earlier.
- 20:03SPEAKER_03: Oh, sorry, I'm sorry, don't ever say that.
- 20:04SPEAKER_04: So stay to stay on the topic of um mental health in in in school nowadays, especially with uh kids uh are now uh using off like medicine often to try to cope with paying attention, mental health.
- 20:17SPEAKER_04: Is there any way that we could try to fix that when you get into office?
- 20:22SPEAKER_04: Or like when it comes to like mental health or even like the protection of our kids when it comes to like school shootings and stuff like that?
- 20:29SPEAKER_04: Because we never know when it's gonna happen.
- 20:32SPEAKER_04: Like I'm more concerned now because I have kids now in school, so your vote actually does matter now.
- 20:37SPEAKER_04: So I just want to say what's your standpoint of like the protection of like kids, like security, uh what's the what's it called?
- 20:44SPEAKER_04: Monitors when they walk in, what's it called?
- 20:47SPEAKER_04: Uh detect protect the metal detectors, uh how serious like when we go at protecting kids in school.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: Well, that's one of the um of the core issues is like is is we talked about health care, and we'll probably jump back to health care, but mental health is something that is real serious.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: Um and we see that coming up more and more and more.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: So there are uh like I say, you have to have schools need funds, and our teachers need to have great pay.
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: So those are some things I'm not they're not complaining.
- 21:23SPEAKER_03: They do.
- 21:24SPEAKER_03: No, I say that because my you know, my wife is is is an educator.
- 21:27SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 21:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, she is.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: Um they need to have when things up front.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: They shouldn't have to go back and keep putting this to-do list, and we need that.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: If we uh to go back to question when they get in the house, like I say there's other things I have to, you know, learn a lot of this, but still, I'm sure there'll be ways to go with other people who's already in the seats to help, is to put things in place where they have more counselors coming right uh in in the school and see what's going on, and I teach.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: need to be funded up front.
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: They don't need to have to wait to mid quarter to say we need this.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: Um I have a a dollar that's in education and you you don't need to have to come out of your pocket.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: A lot of teachers love the game.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: They love what they do.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: So they'll do whatever they do.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: I thank God for uh when they have uh backpacks and churches and community come together.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: Now that's a good thing, but they need resources.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: They need, as you said, we need more as a school to be updated with uh systems in place.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: Uh do more drills um to make sure that this it's gonna work.
- 22:40SPEAKER_05: Right, right.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: Now back in the day we had and I keep saying back in the day I'm telling my age before I get there.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: But you know we know about the fire drill and we know the the basics but now there's more seriousness.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: Like I say something needs to be um a system where it will fire up when something is wrong something to detect it.
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: Right, right and then don't take that and when a child I'm gonna get on another side when a child tells you they are being bullied somebody somewhere needs to listen and record that.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: And and that child's coming up I won't get into the instance of that but it's something that someone needs to look at.
- 23:17SPEAKER_03: I agree I agree with that because that that that's that's definitely something that needs to be taken more seriously because nowadays you have a lot of children that are you know like you like Wade mentioned earlier they got mental things going on.
- 23:30SPEAKER_03: The kids are actually you know doing school shootings you got children that are you know taking each other out because of um all the bullying that goes on in school like that that should definitely be something that should be monitored.
- 23:40SPEAKER_03: I I I agree with that.
- 23:42SPEAKER_03: What do you think about bullying man?
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: It's a terrible thing.
- 23:45SPEAKER_03: Terrible thing you just got bullied when we talk about that episode too I did I got bullied in I got bullied in high school um in middle school and I was one of those kids that that dealt with a whole lot of mental stress from bullying and I had suicide thoughts from bullying you know and I and it it's a horrible thing and I didn't have and I didn't have educators or teachers to really kind of like guide me.
- 24:06SPEAKER_03: I would tell and but you know there was nothing really really done about it to those kids they were bullying me you know writing my name because even one time like they was writing all kind of things about me on the bathroom wall and the stalls and that stayed there for months.
- 24:18SPEAKER_03: Like nobody cleaned it up you know what I'm saying so it just makes it I I I I really I really appreciate the fact that you're wanting to change that because nobody knows what a child is going through that trauma that they're going through that the school system or the or some of the educators and I know they're don't get me wrong every every educator is not bad but I believe that they should do a better job of making sure that that's taken care of and handled so that the students won't have to go through the trauma.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah and that mentality of what goes on in the house stays in the house um I don't know if y'all even heard you know it's I heard that say it okay but I heard it my grandma said it plenty of times yeah but that the child child like I say need to have it's okay to have someone to talk with I think they need to have more counsel in in the school like I say um it to to pick up on that and that's why I was saying earlier um have some other whether there be people volunteers or other teachers or whatever to come in and observe a little bit differently right right on that child because they can pick up.
- 25:20SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 25:21SPEAKER_03: Because child the child should know and I and go back bringing back to the episode we kind of talked about before because when she said something that you know they really like I was like oh man because you hear that growing up what goes on in the house stays in the house.
- 25:32SPEAKER_03: And so you got kids who feel like I can't display how I really feel or I can't display my reality because when I talk about my reality now I'm the bad person.
- 25:41SPEAKER_03: Now I'm wrong.
- 25:42SPEAKER_03: Now I can't now I can't now I can't get over what's going on in my life or either deal with what's going on in my life because everybody wants me to be quiet about it.
- 25:49SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 25:50SPEAKER_03: So it's like I believe that we do need counselors in those schools to embrace those kids let them know hey it's okay to voice what's going on because this this could be the very thing to take you out of here but we can save your life if you're able to talk talk about it.
- 26:02SPEAKER_03: So let's get some counselors in the school everybody school system we need counselors.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah we have them but we just need more we need more we need more counselors I'm sorry I'm just uh this is a good good conversation now as far as education how do you feel about having Jesus in the school okay that's subject just like depends on state laws I guess and different things but there are schools that have good programs that come in.
- 26:29SPEAKER_00: There are certain churches I know for a fact that comes into the school I've I can't think of the name right now but it's pretty much the same name they use.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: Good something.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: But they come in and they can have now I'm sure there are papers that you have to go through because I know my um grandson was in one after school and he came home with a Bible and had his name on it and he was proud of that Bible.
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: And and so they ask questions.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: But again that will be up to the parents responsibility and there are pap there's paperwork I signed um because I'm the one that's taking care of them picking up from school so I signed to let him be there.
- 27:09SPEAKER_00: I think any I mean it it it it's a matter of preference but if that child wanted then I think that this is a beautiful thing that the schools are offering that.
- 27:20SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 27:20SPEAKER_03: In the schools not everybody probably there are some in this area I know for a fact we did it at BHP I I graduated from BHP shout out to the band at BHP I did too back in the Stone Age.
- 27:31SPEAKER_03: 2008 I was part of the FCA which is the Fellowship of Christian athletes even though I was not an athlete on the step team we did I was on the step team that I song on the choir yeah Dr.
- 27:47SPEAKER_03: Tim's yes um uh shout out to Jimmy Oots but uh um but um we had service like twice a week in the morning so we had like I was on the gospel choir at Miss Phyllis Gangs I don't know if you know that is yes I know so we would have the gospel choir would come in and someone would give a word and we had a whole every in in the gym under fellowship of Christian athletes we would go in um in front of the flat pole and pray um so bhp really they they honor us they embraced us having that relationship with God and they didn't they didn't they didn't hinder us from talking about it either we had because we had like we would have Bible studies in the school we would have uh services on the morning I forgot we did it on I think it was Mondays and Thursdays maybe also we had service we would go there and sing someone would give a word you know all those things and it was it was good so how did your day kind of go from that oh man that was one of the biggest things that helped me um stay locked in to overcome like I told you I went through a lot of things but like being able to know God through it all that I was going through not saying that what I was going through was easy but because I had friends that I could go to when I was down and they can give me a scripture even Miss Gangs Gangs I love Miss Gangs but Gangs she would sing so hard and beautiful voice have you ever heard her sing at my daughter's wedding she can blow yes I'm talking about that woman I she's like one of the she would sing gospel through the halls you can hear her coming way you can be like way in the other end of 400 wing and you can hear Miss Gangs singing.
- 29:17SPEAKER_03: So having her there like to always be able to go to and say you know baby God loves you it's gonna be all right don't worry about what they say you know like you know having her the poor and I glad I've had her and other teachers that were there that embraced God like we were in school like I always tell people BH people that school they they laugh at us for having like forum day and things like that but we had a culture that was homey and and and loving and and you know it was it was we didn't have that like you know I'm the teacher you the student we had that there are teachers we can go through Miss Moore Miss Sellers I can name them all um Dr.
- 29:47SPEAKER_03: Tims Miss Henderson like we can go to them and they'll embrace us and tell us you know God love y'all y'all got this y'all gonna be okay keep praying y'all praying you know what I'm saying so it made me feel good so I I would love for them to hear that I would love for schools to really put put up put put keep God in it.
- 30:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah and I like I said the level of what going on like you say everybody have a choice but I think a lot of schools are doing that and I think they uh continue but it's it's a preference and everybody has a right nobody's pushing anything on anybody I don't think but that there's a sheet have to go home and they sign I think they should encourage it.
- 30:22SPEAKER_03: Yep they encouraging it Wade got your answer um go ahead I was um and we were talking about earlier some some issues you know we talked about roads and schools etc but um what are the top um three issues you believe people in district seven are facing right now and what specifically would you do about each one?
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: Okay and we can circle that back again if I have to re-ask it okay so I have a platform that um that I go on is called hope.
- 30:57SPEAKER_00: Okay and some people say whose hope is that is that Jesse Jackson hope is that Obama hope it's it's my hope because you don't have that you don't have anything to go on.
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: But it stands for like I say the hope is for health care um and and housing uh O is for opportunity for all uh the P is for partnership and the E is empowerment so going back to the issues naturally I don't take rocket science is affordability of food gas prices housing that that's what people are talking about I don't know if you all but I hear a lot of did your water bill go up you know uh did it's been high power bill has been crazy I don't even like look at the number no more$60 no boy don't take baths I know myself like my mother-in-law works for Lawrence Electric oh I'm just telling her business I'm sorry mother in law my mother my mother in law that's an REA a rule yes yeah so like we you know she I you know people when you look at like even with Duke Power and stuff like that people are paying like skyrocket power bills yes$600$700 power bill yes yes it's crazy and that's what they're like I say they are having to do other things work a couple jobs or do some or cut back because you're not you haven't budgeted for that right right right seem like everything just going up everything going up man everything is going up but pay but to pay the bills going up but the money ain't right and that's why like I say to bring in an incentives for um partnership with others to attract new uh businesses to come in I love the fact that um I know one of all three you may have your own business that is just the American way just to start small business I think there's support that's what we're made of small business I have my own business I wanted to do that so that are some ways that to give incentive to make companies or businesses come here.
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: And and what's what's where when they come here build some type of complex so they can work near everybody do not have a car and everybody do not qualify maybe to get different things on the bus.
- 33:19SPEAKER_00: Right, right.
- 33:20SPEAKER_00: So that would be a great thing I would like to see how can we get more jobs to come in and have where they can be positioned where the people can live nearby and even walk back to work if they have to.
- 33:32SPEAKER_03: Right, right.
- 33:33SPEAKER_00: We definitely need more jobs definitely how so how would you are you like I guess are you even able to make these type of calls in terms of lowering gas prices or getting you know groceries cheaper like or is there is there like above your head some of that's gonna be above my head but they're at the part of each state you know from you talking to your uh the the public and your the people who put you in that office you know what's going on they're gonna write you or call you or leave messages I don't know if they're everybody returning but they're leaving messages.
- 34:11SPEAKER_00: So you need to make be aware of what you can so for example food and and the transportation of it um why not use our farmers local farmers to help offset some of this cost and give them some incentives where they can come together maybe partner with another warehouse to store that food.
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: Every farmer does not have the facilities to do all that but if you come together as a team of farmers and that will cut down on all this transporting of the trucks and everything.
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: I'm not getting trucks bringing in they knew it but still if you can do this locally because I'm sure around 20 30 40% of our food increase is from the transportation of getting it here.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: Right, right right yeah they was talking about that on um the Cheryl the Cheryl kitchen people we had on here remember they say that the cost of food don't went up because of the the the shipping of it they say that is that they say that directly but he ain't line with that so let me I'm gonna ask you this yes can do you identify as Democrat or Republican the party that I'm running is Democrat okay um but that's how it was when I came to say something need to be done.
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: Right I would like to see some of that just go away because people are tired of that you you're laboring people and people think you have this and that's the only way my grandfather did that and he was Democrat.
- 35:40SPEAKER_00: That's not the way I'm doing it.
- 35:41SPEAKER_00: When I found out that there were seats in the house that had never been ran nobody was ever opposed so if you ran uh a seat and nobody else came to oppose that seat you got a seat then you got a seat.
- 36:00SPEAKER_00: So from my little knowledge I know you're saying I'm not I didn't I always thought that somebody was being opposed and that person just happened to be the one until I was told how many seats were never filled.
- 36:15SPEAKER_00: So that's my first name when I like wow so they got all these seats and nobody's really filling them.
- 36:20SPEAKER_00: No they just opened so they're open so that person walks right into that seat.
- 36:25SPEAKER_00: Wow so they don't have to worry about a debate they don't have to worry about what you're gonna do.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm in there.
- 36:31SPEAKER_00: So I just feel like there'd be maybe some change some term limits and stuff like that um that need to be changed.
- 36:37SPEAKER_03: Wow so if you let it um how will you and I was coordinating asking about you know Republican and Democrat if you let it how will you work with Republicans and Democrats to actually get leg legislation like passed?
- 36:51SPEAKER_03: Like do you have any control there or like you know how would you work with both both parties to try to get things done?
- 36:57SPEAKER_00: Well first has to be trust and and and they have to like I say it's a learning that I have to learn and learn to pick what who I'm working with.
- 37:06SPEAKER_00: But if you in this uh seat and you know what's going on you have a right to bring that up not that every bill that you put in place may pass.
- 37:16SPEAKER_00: Right, right I can say this is what I wanted to see for the farmers.
- 37:21SPEAKER_00: They have people agriculture there's different people over that but when you bring those bills or try to work with someone else if you're talking to a Republican Democrat whomever and they have the same idea why can't we partner and get this going?
- 37:36SPEAKER_00: It's not about what what political party it's about the people who's back home.
- 37:43SPEAKER_03: That's good.
- 37:43SPEAKER_03: So we can work there and and get a solution that's a win-win that's good because you know we in this world like we all we we're one but everybody's against so against each other and we can't ever work together because everybody felt you know you got one side and feel like they gotta be like this and another side gotta be like this and and it's a lot of big ring back and forth and nobody working together but I like what you're saying like the the power of agreement you know to actually get things done like imagine imagine if we was a world um thought about Michael Jackson healed the world Michael Jackson got a song called Heal the World but I talk about just part of my head but um imagine if we was a world that didn't like you know it's not about the Republicans not about Democrats it's about coming together to make real change because I feel like we're feeling I feel like we're spending more time arguing and debating about whose idea is better and nothing is actually getting done.
- 38:36SPEAKER_03: And I feel like I like that I like that you said I like your heart because your heart was like it doesn't matter if your idea aligns with my idea it doesn't matter where you come it's it's like me with I'm you know I'm an African American male but if someone that's a different ethnic group than me if if we're thinking alike let's work together to get this done you know I like that I'm not gonna be opposing you because you're not who I like me.
- 38:57SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 38:58SPEAKER_00: No let's work together.
- 38:59SPEAKER_00: That's that's what they are just work together.
- 39:01SPEAKER_01: You need to put it in the teacher title oh let me do that all right I'm gonna I'm gonna ask you some political hot takes you ready oh my goodness in here now it's politics this is if I knew then what I knew to our podcast we don't we don't shy away from the hard questions and we're gonna shy away from the taboo topics here either.
- 39:23SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna ask you some if you want to plead the fifth you can say I plead the fifth you ain't gotta you ain't gotta speak on it we don't want to I'm just gonna name out some stuff would you be called you give 30 seconds to a minute elaboration on how you feel about it and we can go from there.
- 39:39SPEAKER_00: Alright we'll see five topics number one abortion abortion um that's something that I think it has to be among each person self their belief um as as I was raised I can go from what I'm raised um you know every life is precious I believe in what the Bible says but there are circumstances sometimes that you have to make a hard decision and that's the part like why would I let this happen and some mothers may not and I know this for a fact they despise that child because they were brought into the world where the a different way than they wanted that child to be conceived and we're talking about rape or whatever.
- 40:30SPEAKER_00: Right right um there are some subjects that you have to I feel like there has to be between that person their faith and whatever and and so as far as just 100% I I have to say if it's 1% if things are the way that I was raised but it can't be all the time.
- 40:52SPEAKER_00: Our world is different.
- 40:54SPEAKER_03: Right yeah because you see that now it's a lot going on with uh whether or not women should have rights to it women should not have rights to it you know and that's a real real touchy sensitive uh topic um but that was a good answer though yeah because you have some women who you know like you know like we believe et cetera you know and things in the right way but like she said there's certain circumstances with rape or someone has been you know someone has been kidnapped and they whoever whoever kidnapped them beat them raped them and now they're you know what I'm saying you know them topics get crazy them scenarios I mean you know dealing with something and looking at at situations that is just not permissible and that's a different way to think about it because it's like like I said mental health you you're looking at a product of what happened to you daily you're learning to love trying or trying to learn to love you know what I'm saying a situation that every time you see it see that child you may reflect yeah on I get it and that child may even pick up on that as years come that's what we talked about earlier someone in that school system or someone whatever the system may be is to pick up and help that child um work through that right right what Tupac say something about in his one of his songs yeah yeah yeah you the rapper man you don't remember the lyrics what is it what is it way that women can uh have the right to create one then he says that that's what something about we don't have the right yeah we ain't gonna ask you no more no more lyrics unless you know a complete unless you know word for word he be he was going he was you was in the you was in the vicinity though you was in the realm you was in the realm how you you don't know the words I know is it I hit like what he said I can feel it I can't go pull it away pulling the two you ain't gotta know we live in the world you can look it up eight can you find it seven six six it was right there five you just passed three two two and way let's go ahead and hit the one one two pot dear mama he's under pressure yeah yeah this pressure to get it to you put him under pressure under pressure every day I always find trying to find that lyric we're gonna transition to another big taboo topic topics hot topic number two hot pocket hot pocket you want it you hugged we're talking about that sandwich in the car now I need a sandwich right now so what is your take on what is your take on the LGBTQ community in terms of same sex marriages and transgender topics going on with transgender men or women trying to enter in the same gender sport okay but that's been a hot topic going on right now I seen the WNBA something happened where it was like you know they're accepting transgender athletes now or possibly I guess in communication about that just that whole that whole community that whole
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: Entire, I guess, realm or that whole entire world.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: What's your take on that?
- 44:04SPEAKER_01: Your view, your your political viewpoint on it.
- 44:06SPEAKER_00: Well, political and my personal viewpoint of how I was raised, I keep saying that, is pretty much I I don't I don't have that power.
- 44:16SPEAKER_00: Never was given that power to judge anyone.
- 44:19SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 44:20SPEAKER_00: Uh love is the greatest thing.
- 44:23SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna love whomever that person or whatever they choose to be.
- 44:28SPEAKER_00: That's not for me, that's between them and their faith and whatever do.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: Now, as far as you asking about in the gym, I wouldn't have that ramification to see what the what they have to put in place to do that.
- 44:40SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 44:41SPEAKER_00: But as far as a person wanting to to to be in the sports, um someone like I say, have to put some kind of law in writing and and and keep with it or then deal with it.
- 44:56SPEAKER_03: Right, right.
- 44:57SPEAKER_00: Uh as it comes.
- 44:58SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, because uh I can't say you can't come in here in this dressing room or whatever, like they did one time before with the b the bathroom and that brought that down.
- 45:08SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, I'm peeping behind to see who's in the rooms and didn't know which bathroom to go in.
- 45:13SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 45:14SPEAKER_00: But still it has to be something that um a person in that position to make that decision have to know and put guidelines in place.
- 45:23SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 45:24SPEAKER_00: Uh not just guessing and then someone in the workplace say, I don't like this, then you need to take that with HR or or you need to find a d uh uh alternative to make that work.
- 45:35SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 45:36SPEAKER_03: I think something they was like talking about with that was is it was um I guess if you got like a you know, men's strength is stronger than a woman's strength.
- 45:44SPEAKER_03: So like if you got like a them racing each other, somebody was born a man.
- 45:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you gotta you gotta you gotta you gotta someone that's you know that's born a man in track against the women, you know, he's gonna be stronger, so he may be able to, you know I don't know if it's a dis they think it's a dis see it as a disadvantage for the actual woman who's running up against a male.
- 46:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they definitely see it as a disadvantage.
- 46:04SPEAKER_01: That's why it's such an uproar about it.
- 46:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 46:06SPEAKER_01: But it's more than just track, though.
- 46:07SPEAKER_01: I think they're trying to implement any other sports though.
- 46:09SPEAKER_01: You found a Lyra Wade.
- 46:11SPEAKER_01: I would say, man.
- 46:12SPEAKER_01: This is your chance.
- 46:14SPEAKER_01: This is your chance to say.
- 46:23SPEAKER_03: What do you say?
- 46:26SPEAKER_03: Wow, it's crazy.
- 46:28SPEAKER_03: Give me the man.
- 46:30SPEAKER_03: Give me the wall, take it on.
- 46:31SPEAKER_01: Don't even look it for it no more.
- 46:32SPEAKER_01: Take a look at it.
- 46:38SPEAKER_03: Where's it?
- 46:38SPEAKER_03: What happened?
- 46:39SPEAKER_03: Who somebody asked that GB?
- 46:42SPEAKER_03: He's got it.
- 46:43SPEAKER_04: Somebody asked that.
- 46:53SPEAKER_04: Uh no.
- 46:54SPEAKER_04: Um I need to.
- 46:58SPEAKER_04: Oh, you're not getting back.
- 46:59SPEAKER_01: You say it out loud.
- 46:59SPEAKER_01: When you find it, just yet just yell it.
- 47:01SPEAKER_03: Wait, are you getting hungry?
- 47:04SPEAKER_01: So who and uh last hot take I would say, uh, it's not really a hot take, I guess, but are there any former politicians or current politicians that you look up to to, you know, get guidance and wisdom from and you might like like what they do, or might, you know, any type of characteristics that they might possess that that you want to implement within your own life and you know, showcase to the people.
- 47:29SPEAKER_01: Anybody you following that's really done inspired you in your journey?
- 47:32SPEAKER_01: Well from a politician standpoint or just I guess somebody standpoint.
- 47:37SPEAKER_00: You know, I can go all politicians, like I say, have something that they was recognized for uh even back in the Roosevelt to get social security, and if I'm saying him right, may have the right one wrong one, but just getting things in place.
- 47:52SPEAKER_00: I think every politician um has a duty, like I say, to make every change better every year, every term, every time that it should be better.
- 48:05SPEAKER_02: Yes, man.
- 48:06SPEAKER_00: As we feel right now, I feel like things are going backwards.
- 48:10SPEAKER_00: I think earlier you all alluded to the fact of dividedness.
- 48:15SPEAKER_00: Um and so that's what I didn't see a whole lot of people dividing the country um as I used to see, but there are several ones on like I say I didn't have a problem with because that's your duty.
- 48:28SPEAKER_00: I did what you said was supposed to be done and I went by it.
- 48:32SPEAKER_00: But now things just crazy.
- 48:34SPEAKER_03: Right, right.
- 48:35SPEAKER_00: And um so I'm not knocking anybody, but uh naturally there was great ones that came in here.
- 48:41SPEAKER_00: Um the one that I saw that brought people together, and I would don't mind saying it.
- 48:45SPEAKER_00: Well, Obama was one that brought a lot of people together.
- 48:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh didn't divide.
- 48:50SPEAKER_00: There was Clinton, there was but even Bush, and all of them had their own unique technique that you stood up for and believed in.
- 48:58SPEAKER_00: But when you don't believe in the upper politician, something's wrong.
- 49:05SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 49:06SPEAKER_00: And that's what I think I like.
- 49:07SPEAKER_00: A lot of us now like something has to change somewhere.
- 49:11SPEAKER_00: I'm not saying I'm the one to make a change, but somewhere it has to change.
- 49:15SPEAKER_00: Because you s uh I said earlier, a lot of young people like why, why even bother?
- 49:20SPEAKER_03: Right, right.
- 49:21SPEAKER_00: Why why bother?
- 49:22SPEAKER_00: But um my in my take to that is, and I talked with a young person in in Anderson, and he said the same thing.
- 49:30SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be rigged, it's nothing that matters anyway to me.
- 49:35SPEAKER_00: And my thing was it it's not about today what you do.
- 49:40SPEAKER_00: This is looking for the legacy.
- 49:42SPEAKER_00: You're not gonna be that age all your life.
- 49:45SPEAKER_00: Right, right.
- 49:45SPEAKER_00: So you want to look ahead of and and inspire each and every one of you here tonight on this podcast to step in.
- 49:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, I had no more training or advantage than anyone else, but I know that I had to do something.
- 50:02SPEAKER_03: And that hey, you know what she said.
- 50:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you you was you was kind of talking about that earlier in a post you had, you know, made, but you know, she said she encouraged us to step in.
- 50:13SPEAKER_03: She had no no more training than anybody else.
- 50:15SPEAKER_03: She just she knows what she's going for, and she took the she's she's doing it.
- 50:19SPEAKER_03: And I think that's a lot a lot of us need to answer those calls, you know.
- 50:22SPEAKER_03: We know that we can make a change and we got the ability to do so, we just gotta do it.
- 50:26SPEAKER_03: So yeah, I think you were saying that to me because that's most of me.
- 50:28SPEAKER_03: So that's something they gotta do too.
- 50:30SPEAKER_03: So when you said that, I was like, you're right.
- 50:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 50:33SPEAKER_03: You're right.
- 50:33SPEAKER_03: Um, Way, how we looking on time, man?
- 50:36unknown: Um but I said if I knew then what I knew now.
- 50:39SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 50:39SPEAKER_03: So uh we uh we've asked you a lot of questions, but you know, our podcast is called If If I Knew Then What I Know Now.
- 50:45SPEAKER_03: Um I don't know.
- 50:50SPEAKER_03: I don't know how to put it together.
- 50:52SPEAKER_01: But mine went blank.
- 50:53SPEAKER_01: It went blank, yeah, yeah.
- 50:54SPEAKER_01: So basically, this segment of the podcast is you pretty much give the listener some advice and some game, some wisdom to leave them with.
- 51:01SPEAKER_01: If if I knew then what I know now, this basically you asking yourself that question.
- 51:06SPEAKER_01: If I knew then what that if I knew then what I know now, what would you change about the community?
- 51:13SPEAKER_01: Or what would you have did differently coming up, or what would you have liked to see differently?
- 51:18SPEAKER_01: If you could change something personally that you might have done in the past and change the traject trajectory of your future, what would it be?
- 51:26SPEAKER_03: Well said.
- 51:27SPEAKER_00: Beautiful said, and I'm just like mine is going 50 miles an hour, like what would I change?
- 51:34SPEAKER_00: I'm happy at the point I'm at.
- 51:37SPEAKER_00: Um I don't look, never have.
- 51:39SPEAKER_00: I was taught not to look back, just make changes going forward.
- 51:43SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 51:44SPEAKER_00: So where uh if I had known more, like I say, I didn't go right into education.
- 51:50SPEAKER_00: I wanted to get out of school and go to work, and there's nothing wrong with that.
- 51:54SPEAKER_00: Made a good living with that.
- 51:56SPEAKER_00: But um I probably would have had that chance to go on the campus and and had that uh from going on the campus with the students because I see my grandkids, they they change.
- 52:08SPEAKER_00: Um one is went to school, I went to school, but they come back a different person.
- 52:12SPEAKER_00: Right uh because you're you're away from home.
- 52:14SPEAKER_00: So you have to do things at home to get them to realize that one day you gotta come back and we expect something out of you.
- 52:22SPEAKER_00: But um I really, like I say, can't I've I've enjoyed life.
- 52:27SPEAKER_00: Some people got some complaints and I do have things I would like to have done better.
- 52:31SPEAKER_00: But I have enjoyed, I've had different jobs just like where I'm at.
- 52:36SPEAKER_00: Um I went through a health issue in 2024.
- 52:40SPEAKER_00: Here I was celebrating this big wedding anniversary uh one month and it was the most beautiful thing.
- 52:46SPEAKER_00: And then the next month here I am uh at Duke University.
- 52:50SPEAKER_00: Um, you know.
- 52:51SPEAKER_00: So I don't look back.
- 52:55SPEAKER_00: All I want to do is like I say, is look forward to people doing your job.
- 53:00SPEAKER_00: My job's I'm stepping here, but your job is to, it's about you.
- 53:04SPEAKER_00: You are the controller with the vote.
- 53:06SPEAKER_00: Right, right.
- 53:06SPEAKER_00: I I'm just a vessel just standing in the seat, but you have to make if you want something better, um, you have to do something.
- 53:15SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 53:15SPEAKER_00: You have to get up and do it.
- 53:16SPEAKER_00: And I don't know, I know you all know the uh definition of insanity.
- 53:20SPEAKER_00: It's gonna doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different outcome.
- 53:23SPEAKER_00: So we have to do something different.
- 53:26SPEAKER_00: Uh just starting here tonight.
- 53:28SPEAKER_00: If I inspired one person to say, hey, I'm gonna do more, I'm gonna help somebody, I'm gonna share something, then I've done the race already.
- 53:36SPEAKER_00: I've already won.
- 53:37SPEAKER_00: Whether I get in Columbia or if I stay in Belton, I I've I've won.
- 53:43SPEAKER_03: That's good.
- 53:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 53:44SPEAKER_01: I got I got one last question.
- 53:46SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 53:48SPEAKER_01: Um it was, I don't know the full scope of the story, but it's something that happened local around here.
- 53:54SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 53:55SPEAKER_01: A woman that won, her name was Wimbush or Tanya, or something like that.
- 53:58SPEAKER_01: Y'all remember that stuff that was going on Facebook?
- 54:00SPEAKER_01: She won something.
- 54:01SPEAKER_01: She said she won.
- 54:03SPEAKER_01: What's she running for?
- 54:07SPEAKER_01: She said she won something, but I think they tried to revoke it.
- 54:12SPEAKER_01: I know I'm not tripping.
- 54:14SPEAKER_01: This happened to Anderson.
- 54:15SPEAKER_01: This happened in the area.
- 54:16SPEAKER_03: It definitely happened.
- 54:16SPEAKER_01: But I don't I don't I don't know the full scope of the story, but you being in politics in the area, you probably know kind of like my maybe what happened.
- 54:22SPEAKER_01: But apparently, someone may your name, Tanya Winbush, she won some election around here.
- 54:27SPEAKER_01: And for people that are listeners that's watching this, that's her name.
- 54:30SPEAKER_01: She won something.
- 54:31SPEAKER_01: What did it say, Wade?
- 54:32SPEAKER_01: Uh I got you.
- 54:33SPEAKER_01: Go ahead.
- 54:35unknown: I'm gonna get your take on this.
- 54:36SPEAKER_04: Uh, an Anderson judge upheld upheld a decision invalidating Tanya Winbush, April 7, 2026, election victory for the Anderson County Council, District 5C over retidency.
- 54:48SPEAKER_04: Oh my goodness, residency.
- 54:51SPEAKER_04: Questions paving the way for future special elections.
- 54:54SPEAKER_04: So Tonya Winbush defeated Daryl Thompson of uh with a 34 to 68 vote counter to the district 5 seat.
- 55:01SPEAKER_04: Um basically, Winbush appealed the commission's ruling to the Anderson County Court.
- 55:06SPEAKER_04: Coming, please.
- 55:07SPEAKER_04: Uh Judge Law Lawton McMackintosh dismissed Winbush appeal, finding no errors of law affirming the decision to invalidate the election.
- 55:17SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, so on April 14th, the Anderson municipal election uh nuffled the results ruling that the lease and water services application provided by Winbush for a Morris Lane address were insufficient proof of basically saying that where she lived wasn't real.
- 55:37SPEAKER_01: So they took a lane away, basically.
- 55:41SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 55:42SPEAKER_01: So I guess apparently something she ran, won, but then they took it away.
- 55:48SPEAKER_01: So my my immediate thought to that is like from a local standpoint, from a like from a young voter standpoint, I'm just gonna be real with you, this a black woman, so I'm black.
- 55:59SPEAKER_01: I'm looking at it like suit.
- 56:01SPEAKER_01: You know, I'm like, dang, that's what's up.
- 56:02SPEAKER_01: But then when you look at it like this, like, why would she even be able to run in the first place if it was null and void of something fraudulent going on?
- 56:14SPEAKER_01: And number two, it made me feel like the woman I voted for one, and now you done stripped it from her.
- 56:20SPEAKER_01: That's why I don't vote now.
- 56:22SPEAKER_01: You see what I'm saying?
- 56:23SPEAKER_01: Like them type of thoughts that come to my head as a as a young voter.
- 56:25SPEAKER_01: It's like, so what I guess what's your take on it?
- 56:28SPEAKER_01: Maybe you might know a little bit more insight than we do on the situation.
- 56:31SPEAKER_01: I don't know, but I just know that this was local.
- 56:33SPEAKER_01: And I just thought it would be relevant with the podcast we got going on today.
- 56:37SPEAKER_00: So Well, I do know of both person, but I would not go into either one of them because that would be not for me to even speak on, because it seemed like it may be ongoing.
- 56:47SPEAKER_00: And if that is, I don't know the legalities of what went on.
- 56:52SPEAKER_00: I can see where you would s say why, like the gentleman I was telling you, why go through it.
- 56:59SPEAKER_00: But I would my advice like to say is get in touch with both persons.
- 57:05SPEAKER_00: Um and and you I think you have that right.
- 57:08SPEAKER_00: If they wanted to talk with if they didn't, they would not, or they'd tell you that.
- 57:12SPEAKER_00: But I don't think that either one.
- 57:14SPEAKER_00: Um I do know of both persons, and so if it's ongoing, then there still have to be some legalities that still need to be straightened out.
- 57:24SPEAKER_00: Uh and it may, like I say, be where the person you thought won't win and will win, or if not, then I'm sure that person will be able, Miss Winbush, would be able to say this is what happened.
- 57:37SPEAKER_05: Right, right.
- 57:37SPEAKER_00: And and and that would be a great thing after all this to have either one of them on this podcast.
- 57:43SPEAKER_04: Right, right.
- 57:44SPEAKER_00: To to see and let people, because I can only speculate, that's uh county council, which I'm not involved to see what they're doing and the parameters of what they're doing, but they have to be right in doing what they do.
- 57:58SPEAKER_00: So I would just say just wait, just give a wait and see.
- 58:01SPEAKER_00: And if not, just I would just like what happened, what that you can tell me about, and she may cannot, due to legal reason, even discuss it.
- 58:10SPEAKER_03: Right, right.
- 58:11SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 58:11SPEAKER_03: All right, then well.
- 58:12SPEAKER_03: We appreciate you, man.
- 58:13SPEAKER_03: Clap it up, man.
- 58:14SPEAKER_03: Cleveland up has been a good podcast, great podcast.
- 58:17SPEAKER_03: It's coolie.
- 58:17SPEAKER_03: Um if you want to look and look into that camera right there, if there's anything that any final words you may want to say to where the people can find you at you at, where they can uh social media, yeah, any any emails, whatever how they can reach you, or anything you want to say to the people before you leave the podcast today.
- 58:33SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 58:34SPEAKER_00: One thing I wanted to say that again, I said that earlier.
- 58:37SPEAKER_00: I'm in the seat because of for you.
- 58:41SPEAKER_00: Um it's nothing I have any power, but you have power.
- 58:45SPEAKER_00: And that power comes on November the 3rd.
- 58:48SPEAKER_00: So uh early voting.
- 58:50SPEAKER_00: Uh get things in order.
- 58:53SPEAKER_00: Don't wait until November or the end of October.
- 58:57SPEAKER_00: Start seeing where your precinct.
- 58:59SPEAKER_00: Things may have changed.
- 59:01SPEAKER_00: Make sure you have the proper paperwork that you need, identification, what you have to have when you go, uh, where you're going.
- 59:08SPEAKER_00: Things have been, I've heard of things have been changed, so I want you to make sure you know that.
- 59:14SPEAKER_00: Also, um my my district again is district seven.
- 59:18SPEAKER_00: You can go on scvote.gov and it'll ask you for your name and the last four of your social and it will tell you your district.
- 59:27SPEAKER_00: Now I would love for everybody on here to be in district seven and cash your vote.
- 59:32SPEAKER_00: But it may be other districts.
- 59:34SPEAKER_00: The key thing is just to make stand up and just vote.
- 59:39SPEAKER_00: Uh educate people, listen to them, the ones who say it's not worth it to do anything.
- 59:45SPEAKER_00: Have a reason to tell them why.
- 59:47SPEAKER_00: It's not about today, it's about legacy.
- 59:50SPEAKER_00: It's about uh these gentlemen on the podcast was talking about children and their friend.
- 59:56SPEAKER_00: It's about them coming up.
- 59:58SPEAKER_00: I could sit home at night and hip my popcorn and and do whatever, but it's not.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_00: I am very, very concerned about Anderson County.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_00: So my website, you can go on uh Cooley Elizabeth at district seven.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_00: Um you can just put Cooley Elizabeth, Elizabeth Cooley.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_00: You're gonna see me on Facebook, you're gonna see me that will bring you to my website and other things.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_00: There is a QR code there.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_00: That's something I think a lot have maybe kind of missed, but I do need donations.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_00: I don't care if it's one dollar or whatever you may have.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_00: That helped me to do this race.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_01: You gotta try to throw that QR code out of the way.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_00: Yes, so just throw that in there if you can get that and and and donate to it.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_00: But the main thing, take a stance.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_00: Uh, if you need to talk with me, search me out, email me, I will talk.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_00: I want to meet you.
