Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: It's your early morning praise party. I am Sherry Mackey
- 0:03Speaker 1: and it's time right now for today's word. When they
- 0:08Speaker 1: don't show up, keep moving. Matthew 26 and 45 in
- 0:15Speaker 1: the living Bible says, then he came to the disciples
- 0:18Speaker 1: and said, sleep on now and take your rest. Have
- 0:22Speaker 1: you ever needed somebody to show up for you, but
- 0:25Speaker 1: they weren't there? You needed encouragement, but nobody called. You
- 0:29Speaker 1: needed somebody to stand beside you, but you looked around
- 0:32Speaker 1: and found yourself standing alone. And what hurts the most
- 0:37Speaker 1: is when the people who are absent are the very
- 0:40Speaker 1: people who you thought would come running, the people that
- 0:44Speaker 1: you thought.
- 0:45Speaker 2: You could count on.
- 0:46Speaker 1: In Matthew 26, Jesus was facing one of the most
- 0:48Speaker 1: difficult moments of his earthly life. In the garden of Gethsemane,
- 0:53Speaker 1: he was deeply troubled as he prepared for the suffering
- 0:56Speaker 1: that lay ahead. He asked his disciples to stay awake
- 1:00Speaker 1: and pray with him.
- 1:01Speaker 2: But when he returned, they were sleeping. Imagine that. Jesus
- 1:05Speaker 2: was facing.
- 1:06Speaker 1: The cross and the people closest to him couldn't stay
- 1:09Speaker 1: awake to support him in prayer. Yet Jesus did not
- 1:12Speaker 1: allow their lack of support to distract him from his purpose.
- 1:16Speaker 1: There's a lesson here for all of us. People may
- 1:19Speaker 1: disappoint you, but their disappointment does not have to derail
- 1:23Speaker 1: your destiny. See, sometimes the people you expect to understand
- 1:27Speaker 1: your journey, they won't understand it. The people you expect
- 1:30Speaker 1: to encourage you may be dealing with their own struggles.
- 1:34Speaker 2: And the people you thought would be.
- 1:35Speaker 1: There for every chapter may not be present for the
- 1:38Speaker 1: chapters that matter most to you. That doesn't mean you're unloved.
- 1:45Speaker 1: It doesn't mean you have to stop valuing relationship.
- 1:49Speaker 2: We all need healthy support, encouragement, and people who will
- 1:52Speaker 2: stand with us.
- 1:53Speaker 1: But we must learn that people can't be our only
- 1:57Speaker 1: source of strength. People have limitations. God does not abandon
- 2:01Speaker 1: us when others fall short. So what do you do
- 2:05Speaker 1: when they don't show up? You pray anyway. You keep believing.
- 2:09Speaker 1: You keep working. You keep moving toward what God has
- 2:12Speaker 1: called you to do. You stop exhausting yourself trying to
- 2:16Speaker 1: make people understand your pain, recognize your value, or even
- 2:20Speaker 1: give you the support they're unable or even unwilling to provide.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Sometimes you've got to release a disappointment and say, sleep on.
- 2:28Speaker 1: I can't force you to be present, but I will
- 2:31Speaker 1: not abandon my purpose because you're absent. Let God strengthen
- 2:35Speaker 1: you in the places where you feel unsupported. Let him
- 2:38Speaker 1: teach you how to stand without constantly seeking someone.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Else's approval or reassurance.
- 2:44Speaker 1: And remember, Jesus still went to the cross, y'all. The
- 2:48Speaker 1: disciples' failure to wake up. did not cancel his assignment.
- 2:52Speaker 1: So don't let somebody else's absence become the reason you
- 2:56Speaker 1: abandon your assignment. When people fall short, lean on God.
- 3:00Speaker 1: When support is missing, keep walking in faith. And when
- 3:03Speaker 1: you feel alone, remember you are never beyond God's reach.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Oh, Father God, thank you for being our strength.
- 3:11Speaker 1: When people we depend on disappoint us, help us release
- 3:14Speaker 1: resentment and stop allowing other people's absence to control our peace.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Teach us to build healthy relationships while keeping our trust
- 3:22Speaker 1: firmly rooted in you. God, when we feel unsupported, remind
- 3:26Speaker 1: us that we are not abandoned.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Give us the courage to keep praying, keep believing, and
- 3:31Speaker 2: keep moving forward in purpose.
- 3:33Speaker 1: God, we will not allow disappointment to distract us from
- 3:36Speaker 1: what you've called us to do.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Our confidence is in you in Jesus' name. Now that's
- 3:41Speaker 2: your word for today. Take it, apply it to.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Your everyday life, and you continue to be encouraged and inspired.
- 3:48Speaker 1: It's your early morning praise party. I am Sherri Mackey.
