- 0:00Speaker 1: It was one side and welcome inside the studio d
- 0:03Speaker 1: MLB on TBS Closer presented by Vanda Pharmaceuticals. You saw
- 0:08Speaker 1: the grand Slam there by Grisham overall man just an
- 0:12Speaker 1: absolute performance from those Yankee bats and.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Freed handling it on the mound.
- 0:17Speaker 1: You had an interesting take pregameers though, you said everyone's
- 0:20Speaker 1: making all this fuss about these twelve games coming up
- 0:23Speaker 1: for the Yankee some big series Houston, Toronto, Detroit, Boston.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I know that you overlooked it and said the bigger
- 0:30Speaker 1: games will be in September and October. But does tonight
- 0:33Speaker 1: show anything the first game of the series beating up
- 0:36Speaker 1: one of the best pitchers in baseball.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Oh yeah, no doubt. To get off to that start
- 0:40Speaker 3: after an off day yesterday, I think they had a
- 0:42Speaker 3: big fantasy draft going into the off day, right, and
- 0:45Speaker 3: the cowboy outfits sort to come in. The vibes were high.
- 0:50Speaker 3: And to do that Offhamber, who just went seven shut
- 0:52Speaker 3: out to start prior. This is a great start for them,
- 0:56Speaker 3: this big stretch, right, And when you're on the inside,
- 0:59Speaker 3: it's one game at a time.
- 1:00Speaker 2: It's not that big deal.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Big of a deal if you lose but to win
- 1:03Speaker 3: the first game and get this momentum to go into
- 1:05Speaker 3: tomorrow or try to win the series is definitely big
- 1:08Speaker 3: for them, and.
- 1:09Speaker 4: It's capturing the momentum the way they've been playing. We
- 1:12Speaker 4: talked about, you know, the cowboy outfits and a draft.
- 1:15Speaker 4: The last thing you want to do is lose, and
- 1:16Speaker 4: that thing kind of comes to a stop. So you're
- 1:18Speaker 4: taking everything that you've done and it's like, now we're
- 1:21Speaker 4: proving that we are this good. Now that we're just hot,
- 1:24Speaker 4: everybody's going to get hot and you're going to cull off,
- 1:26Speaker 4: but we are this good. And you talked about, you know,
- 1:30Speaker 4: the five games, and this is a tough twelve game stretch.
- 1:33Speaker 5: You do want to prove.
- 1:35Speaker 4: To the other team and to yourself that we can play.
- 1:37Speaker 4: You've had ups and downs. Every season has ups and downs,
- 1:40Speaker 4: but these are twelve games that really matter. Not that
- 1:43Speaker 4: it's going to make or break the season, but we're
- 1:45Speaker 4: making a statement that when you see us in a postseason,
- 1:48Speaker 4: you're going to have a bad taste amount of last
- 1:50Speaker 4: time that we played, and you want to make that statement.
- 1:52Speaker 1: It is the fifteenth win this season for Freed. He
- 1:55Speaker 1: is now eleven and one when he's the starting picture
- 1:59Speaker 1: and the Yankees are coming off of a loss. It's
- 2:01Speaker 1: also his first regular season win ever over Houston.
- 2:05Speaker 2: We know he's had big postseason.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Wins over Houston, but there's only three teams he didn't
- 2:09Speaker 1: get the regular season win.
- 2:10Speaker 2: He can check that off.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Second inning here Jazz Chisholm Grandy bringing the.
- 2:15Speaker 5: Power those lefties again. You talk Framberg giving up only
- 2:18Speaker 5: one homer off.
- 2:19Speaker 6: The leftiest yep and then to give up a ding
- 2:21Speaker 6: Dong Johnson like this.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Top of the fifth now two outs, space is loaded
- 2:28Speaker 1: for g and Cardo Stanton strikes out looking high.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Change up next batter, Trent Grisham. You mentioned he has
- 2:36Speaker 2: brought a lot to this Doug yet.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Yeah, he's just been steady, Eddie, and he has one
- 2:41Speaker 3: heart beat and that is low. His pulse is low
- 2:44Speaker 3: at all times. He plays the outfield with the best
- 2:46Speaker 3: of them. He's so nonchalant, but he's ready to play
- 2:49Speaker 3: and he's a competitor. And what he's brought to this
- 2:51Speaker 3: team the entire year has been amazing for them. And
- 2:55Speaker 3: look the Yankees of weather the storm. They've completely read
- 2:58Speaker 3: the storm and they're ready to show the world who
- 3:00Speaker 3: they are. This September.
- 3:01Speaker 2: You know, their bats were great, free showing the pitching as.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Well, a lot of up and back. You see the
- 3:06Speaker 1: up there staring down Chisholm. And this is when we thought.
- 3:09Speaker 2: We might get an ejection.
- 3:10Speaker 5: Oh wa, for sure.
- 3:11Speaker 4: It was no doubt he was getting kicked out this game.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Anyone that knows Jazz.
- 3:15Speaker 5: You know he wears his emotions want to sleeve.
- 3:17Speaker 4: Also when he hits the ball, he wears emotions want
- 3:19Speaker 4: to leave.
- 3:20Speaker 5: But this is on This is on brand for him.
- 3:23Speaker 4: That is something controversial and he does something special. Either way,
- 3:26Speaker 4: you're going to find out about me. He was on
- 3:28Speaker 4: a privtive side tonight.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Now the Yankees fifteen and five since their last series
- 3:33Speaker 1: against the Astros. They leave the league at home runs
- 3:36Speaker 1: RBIs slugging and they're winning on the road. Other side,
- 3:40Speaker 1: here Houston is on pace to be bottom ten and
- 3:43Speaker 1: runs scored for the first time since twenty fourteen, and
- 3:46Speaker 1: one of their pitchers gets lit up.
- 3:49Speaker 2: What is your level of concern.
- 3:50Speaker 5: I think it's still so early in September.
- 3:52Speaker 6: And again, like we talked about it there, in first
- 3:55Speaker 6: they find a way to stay in.
- 3:57Speaker 5: First, they find a way to get.
- 3:58Speaker 6: Themselves to the end, you're gonna run through little bumps
- 4:01Speaker 6: in the road, So better to do it now and
- 4:03Speaker 6: still have an entire month left to get yourself ready
- 4:05Speaker 6: to roll come postseason. You almost got to lock them
- 4:08Speaker 6: in to get into the postseason. It's just a matter
- 4:10Speaker 6: of how their momentum is going to be. You don't
- 4:12Speaker 6: want to be playing like this come October. But if
- 4:15Speaker 6: you can get this out of the way and be
- 4:16Speaker 6: ready come October fourth, fifth, you'd be ready to roll.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Six starts Now for Framburgh against the Yankees, his era
- 4:23Speaker 1: is now over seven.
- 4:24Speaker 2: He's allowed six home runs.
- 4:26Speaker 5: That's not a good match.
- 4:26Speaker 1: No, he allowed four earned runs to them back on
- 4:29Speaker 1: August ninth, and again we talked about the home runs
- 4:32Speaker 1: to lefty.
- 4:32Speaker 2: It seems as though the Yankees crack the code.
- 4:35Speaker 4: It is and he knows best, and you know, before
- 4:38Speaker 4: the game, we do our time of game and he
- 4:40Speaker 4: told us. You know, Frambergh does not like facing the Yankees.
- 4:43Speaker 4: And when you see his stuff, and you know, his
- 4:46Speaker 4: sister is like, why not.
- 4:47Speaker 5: Yeah, they have found something against him.
- 4:49Speaker 3: I don't.
- 4:49Speaker 4: And sometimes it's tipping pitches. Sometimes it's just knowing a sequence,
- 4:53Speaker 4: none who's being.
- 4:53Speaker 5: On a plate.
- 4:54Speaker 4: What this guy likes to do, but on these pitches
- 4:56Speaker 4: that he got hurt on pitches middle, middle, their mid
- 5:00Speaker 4: and as a lefty, I want you to talk about
- 5:02Speaker 4: what it's like when you learned how to hit lefties
- 5:05Speaker 4: and what that adjustments like for you went them.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Yeah, with Framberg, his sinker is elite, especially left on left,
- 5:10Speaker 3: So you know, you got to set your lane as
- 5:12Speaker 3: a leftie. And you know, I think with the Yankees
- 5:14Speaker 3: and the way their lineup's constructed, you have to run
- 5:17Speaker 3: your lefties out there. And he's not used to facing
- 5:19Speaker 3: this many lefties. Most of these teams now just throw
- 5:22Speaker 3: all right handers in there, and he's seeing three four
- 5:25Speaker 3: lefties in this lineup and he's not used to this.
- 5:27Speaker 3: He's not used to the left and right. So get
- 5:29Speaker 3: pitches out over. That's probably the scout are put on him.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Take the things in and don't try to do too
- 5:34Speaker 3: much because with his sinker, if you try to elevate,
- 5:36Speaker 3: easy ground ball, easy ground ball, and that's what he's
- 5:38Speaker 3: trying to do.
- 5:39Speaker 6: So I've always liked that you'd always have a situation
- 5:41Speaker 6: you get a dominant left handed pitcher and you only
- 5:43Speaker 6: put one lefty in the lineup. Now, every other person
- 5:47Speaker 6: on the opposition is on that side of the plate.
- 5:50Speaker 5: Right, he's doing well with.
- 5:51Speaker 6: That fastball and that change up and that bastball and
- 5:53Speaker 6: that change up.
- 5:54Speaker 5: He doesn't have to change anything. You only got to
- 5:56Speaker 5: worry about one lefty.
- 5:57Speaker 6: You had Bellinger, you had Jazz, you had Grissom, you
- 6:00Speaker 6: had well.
- 6:01Speaker 5: Yeah, he's got to switch it four times. Now.
- 6:04Speaker 6: The numbers may say, don't put the lefties in, but
- 6:06Speaker 6: to Rizzo's point, put them out there. These are your
- 6:09Speaker 6: best hitters. You got to ride with your best guns
- 6:11Speaker 6: to the end of the season.
- 6:12Speaker 1: It's always great when the batters the bottom half of
- 6:14Speaker 1: the lineup can carry the low Jazz Trent seven RBIs
- 6:18Speaker 1: to combine five for nine. We have somebody uniquely qualified
- 6:22Speaker 1: to talk about Jazz, Chisholm. Let's relook at his game today.
- 6:25Speaker 1: He now moves to twenty eight home runs, twenty six
- 6:28Speaker 1: stolen bases.
- 6:29Speaker 2: What level are you seeing from this guy?
- 6:31Speaker 6: Right?
- 6:32Speaker 5: This is athlete and just as a whole.
- 6:35Speaker 6: You talk about the Bronx Bombers, they hit the ball
- 6:37Speaker 6: out of the ballpark, but the fact that they also
- 6:39Speaker 6: can run and they run in smart situations. As a team,
- 6:43Speaker 6: they're about an eighty plus percent stolen based success rate.
- 6:47Speaker 6: That's where you want to be if you have the ability.
- 6:50Speaker 6: If they're going to give you a base to advance
- 6:52Speaker 6: the second or advance.
- 6:53Speaker 5: The third, do it. And oh yeah, being on the
- 6:55Speaker 5: left handed side, take advantage. Hit that thing out of
- 6:58Speaker 5: the ballpark.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Ooh grandy, mad hitch.
- 7:00Speaker 4: I just have a question, what happened to the last
- 7:02Speaker 4: five selling bass? I mean, what were you thinking? Man?
- 7:04Speaker 5: They gave me the red light over there. I was
- 7:06Speaker 5: trying to go thirty.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Gave me the red light.
- 7:07Speaker 5: Gave me the red light. Slowan down, look at me?
- 7:09Speaker 5: What is that? No share? And that's what the small base?
- 7:11Speaker 5: Give me that big base over there.
- 7:15Speaker 1: What advice would you give to Jazz as he's nearing
- 7:19Speaker 1: like the thirty thirties, what would you tell him?
- 7:21Speaker 5: I think pick the right situation. They're going to give
- 7:23Speaker 5: you a pitch to go on. You've been successful at
- 7:26Speaker 5: this point.
- 7:26Speaker 6: You've had forty in your career, so just continue to
- 7:29Speaker 6: find the right times to run.
- 7:31Speaker 5: Don't force it.
- 7:31Speaker 6: You get a whole month left, thirties possible even thirty
- 7:34Speaker 6: five as possible. Pitchers fall into patterns kind of like
- 7:38Speaker 6: we might have seen today. What the Yankees might have
- 7:39Speaker 6: been able to pick up on the Framberg. Same thing.
- 7:42Speaker 6: Going to the plate, you can find the right times
- 7:44Speaker 6: to run. Just continue to keep doing it and stay healthy.
- 7:47Speaker 5: That's the big thing.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Stay healthy, Rizzi, you know this roster really really well.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Can you tell what's clicking for them right now? How
- 7:54Speaker 1: dangerous is this Yankees team?
- 7:56Speaker 3: I mean pitching and defense, right that's that's baseball one one.
- 8:00Speaker 3: But they hit the ball out of the ballpark more
- 8:02Speaker 3: than anyone. They're stealing bags, they're stealing bags at a
- 8:04Speaker 3: high clip, and they're playing good defense. So Aaron Boone
- 8:09Speaker 3: expects every day when you walk in that clubhouse to
- 8:11Speaker 3: make the other team bring it and feel it. And
- 8:13Speaker 3: that's what they're doing right now. And when you walk
- 8:16Speaker 3: in that clubhouse and you have that swagger and you
- 8:18Speaker 3: have that feeling, it's a great feeling there. The only
- 8:21Speaker 3: downside to that is it can turn real quick in
- 8:23Speaker 3: New York one loss, don't let it shift. Just keep
- 8:26Speaker 3: playing your brand of baseball. You'll be right where you
- 8:29Speaker 3: need to be.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Let's take a look at the standings. You did say
- 8:31Speaker 1: something earlier, you think a wild card might actually be
- 8:34Speaker 1: better for them to get that momentum though, so right
- 8:36Speaker 1: now they keep pace with the Blue Jays.
- 8:39Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure the Blue Jays right now they won.
- 8:42Speaker 1: They beat the Reds twelve to nine, so it's still
- 8:44Speaker 1: gonna be two and a half games.
- 8:46Speaker 5: So the wildcard.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Do you still believe that you think the WILDCARDI be better?
- 8:49Speaker 3: You know, I just think as Yankee fans, it's been
- 8:53Speaker 3: such an up and down season for them. Rally around
- 8:56Speaker 3: this team. This is your team. You have Aaron Judge
- 8:58Speaker 3: in his prime MVPs all over the place, you have
- 9:01Speaker 3: great pitching, you have great bullpen. Rally around this team.
- 9:04Speaker 3: If they don't get off to a good start when
- 9:06Speaker 3: they're home next time, who cares. They're going to be
- 9:08Speaker 3: playing in October. They're gonna probably go deep in October
- 9:11Speaker 3: because they're built for it. Get behind them more now
- 9:14Speaker 3: than ever. That would be my message, because this team's
- 9:17Speaker 3: fun to watch and they're really good when.
- 9:19Speaker 6: They're on and to the point of having the wild card,
- 9:22Speaker 6: if you hit the ball out of the ballpark, and
- 9:24Speaker 6: we all know as hitters, the worst thing you can
- 9:26Speaker 6: do for us is give.
- 9:27Speaker 5: Us time off.
- 9:28Speaker 6: So if they have the wild card, they finish the
- 9:30Speaker 6: regular season on a Sunday. They're playing in a game
- 9:33Speaker 6: on Tuesday. If they don't get the wildcard, of course
- 9:36Speaker 6: you want to advance and be the higher seed.
- 9:38Speaker 5: They may not play until Friday or Saturday.
- 9:41Speaker 6: That's a long time off for a team that relies
- 9:44Speaker 6: on hitting the ball out of the ballpark.
- 9:46Speaker 1: One batter not in the lineup for the Astros tonight,
- 9:48Speaker 1: youorre Don Alvarez, you could feel that whole likely be
- 9:51Speaker 1: back in tomorrow's game. They also have a bunch of
- 9:54Speaker 1: guys they could be getting healthier. I don't know if
- 9:56Speaker 1: this is the Astro squad we'll see in October. It's
- 10:00Speaker 1: going to be a different when everybody is healthy.
