- 0:05She's a happy girl. Hello, friends, and welcome back to another podcast of Woman.
- 0:10At the Well Ministries, where we believe that all of us have to come to Jesus
- 0:15like the woman at the well in John chapter 4.
- 0:18Our highest priority is making God real in your life.
- 0:22Whether you are listening in our app, in your favorite podcasting app,
- 0:25or on our website at watwm.org,
- 0:28we invite you to sit down with us as we look to the scriptures to learn more
- 0:33about God and to strengthen your daily walk with Jesus Christ.
- 1:02The world bombards us on every hand with many things that fill our mind.
- 1:06If we are not careful, our mind can quickly fill up with negative things and with ungodly things.
- 1:12Join us in this broadcast of Woman at the Well Ministries, as Kim teaches us
- 1:16how to have the mind of Christ.
- 1:17Hello, and thank you for joining us. We're going to look at Philippians chapter
- 1:212 and verse 5 as the main crux of our time together today.
- 1:25And it says that, Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.
- 1:31And it seems that the world spends an enormous amount of time trying to figure
- 1:36out how to get themselves straight.
- 1:38And there's all these kind of self-help books trying to tell you how to make
- 1:42the most out of yourself. And it always talks about the power of positive thinking.
- 1:47And generally in almost anything that we do and in any place that we are,
- 1:52when people are trying to help someone else out, they think about the power of positive thinking.
- 1:58Well, we absolutely positively know that the power of positive thinking isn't going to save us.
- 2:04What is going to save us is Jesus Christ and nothing else.
- 2:08He says, I am the way, the truth, and the life. And if no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
- 2:13But we also know that Jesus Christ spent an enormous amount of time telling
- 2:18us about the things we should fill ourselves with and the things that we should think upon.
- 2:23And we know that he did this because the mind intellectually is sort of what
- 2:29gets us moving and going.
- 2:31And it can change how we feel about something in an instant.
- 2:36Because our attitude determines a lot about how we feel and about what we're doing.
- 2:41And so when we stop and we think about something, if we think and focus on negative
- 2:47things, it doesn't take us any time at all to become depressed and upset.
- 2:51If we are feeling kind of sickly and we begin to go and perhaps Google and look
- 2:58at all kinds of things about all the symptoms and problems that you can have
- 3:01if you have this certain particular ailment that you may think you might have,
- 3:05suddenly you begin to feel every one of those.
- 3:09You go to the pharmacy and you get prescription and it gives you this little
- 3:12list of things that said possible side effects.
- 3:14You can sit around and think about those things until you sort of seem to develop
- 3:18them or think that you might be having them because the mind is a powerful thing.
- 3:24The mind is a powerful tool of the devil, and it is a powerful playground for
- 3:30the devil because so often we guard our lives, we guard our homes,
- 3:36we guard our reputations even, but we let the ball down and we drop the ball
- 3:42when it comes to guarding our mind.
- 3:45And we let our eyes see a lot of stuff it shouldn't see.
- 3:49And we let our mind be filled
- 3:52with a lot of things that aren't part
- 3:55of what God would have it to be you see
- 3:58the Bible says that we are to study to show our self-approved unto
- 4:01God a workman that needeth not to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth
- 4:05and that's in 2nd Timothy 2 15 and we can't rightly divide the word of truth
- 4:10if we haven't learned it and we haven't studied it the The Bible tells us in
- 4:15Psalms that we're to hide his word in our heart that we might not sin against thee.
- 4:20When Jesus was taken up to the mountain and he was tempted, yet he did not sin
- 4:27because the Bible says that he was tempted like as we are yet without sin.
- 4:31When he was tempted, he began to quote scriptures and.
- 4:36Back at the devil. You see, he said that man cannot live by bread alone,
- 4:41but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
- 4:45He also spoke to us and explained to us that as we begin to draw closer to him,
- 4:52he would draw closer to us.
- 4:55He speaks about a joy unspeakable and full of glory and a peace that passeth understanding.
- 5:01But we're only going to have this perfect peace that's found through Christ
- 5:05Jesus if we are trusting in him and we are spending time with him.
- 5:10The Bible says that the footsteps of a righteous man are guided by the Lord.
- 5:16And he also says that we are to live in the center of his will.
- 5:19And when we're in the center of his will, we have incredible power.
- 5:23In fact, he says, abundantly above all that we ask or think,
- 5:26that power inside of us can work.
- 5:29But all of that comes down to the place, one, where we placed our heart.
- 5:34We have got to confess our sins and allow Jesus Christ to come into our lives,
- 5:39that we might repent of our sins and that we might receive his free gift of
- 5:43salvation, that we might be able to be called the sons of God and the Holy Spirit
- 5:49dwell inside of us and teach us all things that we need.
- 5:53But once we have given our heart to Jesus Christ, we need to give our life to Jesus Christ.
- 5:58That means we need to let him have free reign and rule over ourselves.
- 6:04And the biggest challenge, it seems, among Christians today is handing over that mind to the Lord.
- 6:12It's a battlefield that is bombarded all the time with media.
- 6:17It's bombarded all the time with things that tempt us.
- 6:20It is something that absolutely goes straight to the flesh.
- 6:24We look and we see and we feel and we touch all in that mental part of ourselves.
- 6:30And then suddenly we begin to start to rationalize the things that we are doing
- 6:34and the things in our life according to what seems right with the world.
- 6:39There was a popular saying many years ago, and I believe it is a core of how
- 6:44people live today for the most part, that says if it feels good, do it.
- 6:48Huge part of that going back to that power of positive thinking.
- 6:52If I just think good things, then it'll be okay.
- 6:56Well, the truth of the matter is as Christians, When we do what he says,
- 6:59we're going to be thinking upon good things, as he tells us in Philippians 4, 8.
- 7:03But the power of positive thinking isn't going to save your souls.
- 7:07But the power of positive thinking in the works and the words and the rules
- 7:12and the guidance of the scripture of Christ is going to keep our minds and hearts through Christ Jesus.
- 7:19You see, we want our minds settled in the hands of God, that he can protect
- 7:24us from all of the stuff that's in the world.
- 7:27The Bible tells us in Philippians chapter 4 and verse 8,
- 7:31He says, finally brethren whatsoever things are true whatsoever things are honest
- 7:36whatsoever things are just whatsoever things are pure whatsoever things are
- 7:41lovely whatsoever things are
- 7:42of good report if there be any virtue and if there be any praise think on
- 7:47Now, He's telling us what we need to think on.
- 7:51He tells us in the book of Thessalonians that we are to pray without ceasing.
- 7:55He tells us that we're to call unto him and he will answer us and show us great
- 8:00and mighty things that we don't know.
- 8:02So he's given us where we're supposed to place our mind.
- 8:06We're supposed to place our mind on the things that are true.
- 8:09And the Bible says that he is the truth, remember?
- 8:11He is the way, the truth, and the life.
- 8:14He tells us that we are to think about those things that are honest.
- 8:18Things that are honest are those things that are righteous, those things that
- 8:21the Lord has spoken to us, those things that are in his way and in his will.
- 8:26He tells us that we're to think about things that are just. In other words,
- 8:29our mind is to be crucified under the blood of Jesus Christ so that when we're
- 8:35thinking about how we're going to deal with other people,
- 8:37when we're thinking about what we think of others, that we are thinking through
- 8:41the blood of Jesus Christ that's been applied to us.
- 8:45And then we can continue ye in his love as he commanded us in the book of John.
- 8:49But so often we're willing to maybe give him our money for our ties,
- 8:53and we might be willing to give him a little bit of our time,
- 8:56but we're not going to give him our mind.
- 8:59Because somehow, in some way, we have determined that we still should have a
- 9:03reason to be able to think on our own.
- 9:06Well, the Lord says, choose you this day whom you're going to serve in the book
- 9:09of Deuteronomy also says it in Judges. I mean, Joshua.
- 9:13But what he's telling us is you need to set your heart and your mind and your
- 9:18affections above and not on things of the world. He tells us in Colossians.
- 9:21So we need to really realize that that TV channel that we're turning on and
- 9:26sitting in front of does have a consequence to our godliness and our spirituality.
- 9:32We have the option many times to flip through the channels
- 9:35and listen to fabulous men and women of god
- 9:38and instead we choose to watch some raunchy horrible
- 9:41tv show maybe we have the opportunity to listen
- 9:44to songs that will glorify and edify the lord and instead we listen to songs
- 9:50that talk about worldliness and and evilness and all kinds of stuff and we said
- 9:55well they're just songs well they play over and over in your mind and they begin
- 9:59to desensitize you to the sin of the world and that is a tool of the devil.
- 10:03And I'm not saying that you can't have fun because the word of God will bring
- 10:07you joy unspeakable and full of glory and a peace that passeth understanding.
- 10:10But when we get our mind crucified under the blood of Jesus Christ,
- 10:15then we're going to begin to look and see and do different things.
- 10:19The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 5, verse 17, that old things are passed
- 10:26away and all things are become new.
- 10:28That we're new creatures in Christ Jesus.
- 10:31You see, our mind has been changed. It's been renewed. The Bible says that we
- 10:35are to renew our mind daily.
- 10:38Not that we lose our salvation every day, but we need to renew that commitment.
- 10:43We need to renew that cleansing. We need to get the dust of the world off of our feet.
- 10:48And we need to get the stuff that's been just thrown at us through what we see
- 10:52on billboards and what we hear by the water cooler.
- 10:55Not things that we're really participating in, but things that just come our
- 10:59way. and we need to be able to say, get thee behind me, Satan.
- 11:02And we need to have so much of God
- 11:04inside of us and be studied so much and absolutely so surrendered to him.
- 11:09Because don't get it wrong. When you become saved, you get all of him there
- 11:13is. But for us, he doesn't get all of us.
- 11:16We need to give him everything we have, including our mind, and stay focused
- 11:21on the things of God, looking at what's true, looking at what's honest,
- 11:25thinking about what's just, thinking about the pure things.
- 11:29That's such a huge thing.
- 11:31Immorality is on a rampage in our country. But people, it's in a rampage in our churches.
- 11:40But it's in a rampage in our homes.
- 11:43There are TV commercials that come on when you are trying to watch something
- 11:47that is maybe decent and wholesome that in my mom and dad's generation would
- 11:53have been considered X-rated.
- 11:55How did it make it to primetime TV? Because people have not been subjecting
- 12:01their mind under the crucifixion of the blood of Jesus Christ and crucifying
- 12:06the devil out of their minds.
- 12:08And so he has little by little and piece by piece gotten in.
- 12:13To a way we just sort of just let it go. Because we've forgotten that we need to guard our minds.
- 12:19He says to sanctify ourselves. Be ye holy for I am holy.
- 12:24So as you begin the rest of your day and you get up tomorrow morning,
- 12:28I want you to really seriously be thinking about what you can do to think about
- 12:34those things that are pure.
- 12:35What you can do to give your heart and your mind to Jesus Christ.
- 12:39That your heart would be pure. and your mind would be clean before an almighty God.
