- 0:09Speaker 1: Who welcome to the Inside the Birds pregame show. That's right,
- 0:14another season of pregame shows here on Inside the Birds
- 0:18with the same cast and crew. I'm Jeff Mosher alongside
- 0:21Adam Kaplan and joining us as always is our tape
- 0:24breakdown guru Greg co Sell. You see him on ESPN's
- 0:29NFL Matchup Show. Senior producer at NFL Films, Greg, Welcome back,
- 0:34and I promise you this is you know, we always
- 0:36say week one is different. I know you don't have eight, nine,
- 0:39ten weeks of tape to watch leading up to this,
- 0:41so we have to go off of what we know right.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Right, and there's a lot of things we don't know.
- 0:47But I gotta tell you, guys, I feel like we
- 0:49just did this not that long ago, you know. I
- 0:51mean the Eagles played late into the season last year,
- 0:54as it were, So it feels like we just did
- 0:56this a couple of weeks ago.
- 0:58Speaker 1: So did the light go off after the Super Bowl
- 1:00for you in that studio and you went to sleep
- 1:02and then you just woke up like a two months
- 1:04later for training camp?
- 1:05Speaker 2: But no, no, no, no, I've been I don't think
- 1:09I've missed more than you know A couple of trips
- 1:11you know that were kind of business slash pleasure trips.
- 1:15But I don't think I've missed maybe more than three
- 1:17four days in a row since since the season ended
- 1:20of tape study both college and NFL.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Well, listen, the Eagles are starting off the season with
- 1:26a bang. It is the Dallas Cowboys Thursday night at
- 1:30the Link, the super Bowl banner will be unfurled. The
- 1:33Eagles have said they won't be watching. They're focused on
- 1:36twenty twenty five, not two thousand and twenty four. However,
- 1:40it's always amazing when the Eagles and the Cowboys meet,
- 1:43and now you get it in week one, Adam. You
- 1:45know my stance on this. I'm more of a I
- 1:48like the lead up of a few weeks before we
- 1:50get Eagles Cowboys. But I will say Week one is
- 1:53fun for the fans, and I know that the stadium
- 1:56will be rocking, especially when that banner gets unfurled. But
- 1:59it's also a chain to get a good look at
- 2:02one team that's trying to defend the Super Bowl and
- 2:04another team that's really trying to bounce back from a
- 2:06really rough year that has high expectations.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Yeah, you look, you know when you've got the first
- 2:12game of the season. The networks in this case would
- 2:15be NBCY. This is what they wanted. I was on
- 2:17that media call when the schedule came out, and look,
- 2:21we could debate what game should have been there, but
- 2:24you're gonna get great ratings.
- 2:25Speaker 4: It's Dallas. They still have.
- 2:26Speaker 3: A big name, There's no question about it. So yeah,
- 2:30with Dallas, it's kind of a renewal of kind of
- 2:36what they want to be. They see where Philly is.
- 2:39Jerry Jones has talked about it. He's actually been quite
- 2:42complimentary with the Eagles, surprisingly, but you've got a new
- 2:46head coach, one that shocked fans and former players the Cowboys,
- 2:49Brian Schotenheimer. And we'll get into what we think this
- 2:53thing could look like. Offensive fact, we have a pretty
- 2:55good idea what Shoty wants to do, but no, Michael
- 2:59Parsons chef us. The story here to me is it's
- 3:03just it's hard to believe they made that trade last week.
- 3:05Speaker 4: Hard to believe.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Yeah, So this is interesting, right because Dallas's biggest offseason
- 3:10edition was George Pickens. So we'll wind up going into
- 3:14their offense and what that's going to mean. Greg for it,
- 3:17but clearly for Week one under the microscope is both
- 3:20of these defenses and how they are going to be different.
- 3:23The Eagles having to replace about a half dozen start
- 3:27almost half of its starting lineup on defense, and then
- 3:30the Cowboys not making that many replacements, but really having
- 3:33to figure out what to do now without a pass
- 3:37rusher in the mold of Micah Parsons.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Well, they had made some changes on defense anyway, and
- 3:43obviously if Parsons was there, he can alleviate a lot
- 3:47of potential issues because he's truly an impact game changer.
- 3:51But you know they have Kenneth Murray is now playing linebacker.
- 3:56He's there, He's been with a few teams in the league,
- 3:59and he's always moves on just because as athletic as
- 4:03he is, he just doesn't see things as as quickly
- 4:07and as clearly as you need to. They have a
- 4:10new Uh, it'll be interesting to see. They just signed
- 4:13a Ron Bland to a big deal, so you know
- 4:16he's going to start on the outside. You know, I
- 4:19know they they brought in caer elm but I can't
- 4:21believe you signed Bland and you only play him in
- 4:23your nickel. So he's gonna start and I believe Diggs
- 4:26is a full participant and has been, so it looks
- 4:29like he's gonna go yep. But it'll be a little different,
- 4:33you know. Now they have Kenny Clark, They've got some
- 4:36some you know, they've got the rookie Asiaku from Boston College.
- 4:41They still have Marshawn neland who was hurt last year,
- 4:44but he was a second round pick a year ago.
- 4:46A second round pick is not a throwaway pick. You
- 4:49probably expect him to play meaningful snaps. Sam Williams is back.
- 4:54He's a twenty twenty two draft choice who actually has
- 4:57a lot of ability. It'll be very interesting to see
- 5:00what he can do with this team. So there's some
- 5:03players here. It's Week one. You really have no idea
- 5:07how guys will be deployed, and you know what the
- 5:11snapcount will be. Really you don't know the answer to that.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Right Well, we're gonna do real quick. We're gonna do
- 5:16what we always do on this show, and that's break
- 5:19it down from every angle, from the Eagles angle, from
- 5:22the Cowboys angle. And of course, the Eagles are seven
- 5:24and a half point favorites. Last I checked over the
- 5:28Cowboys at home, and that's a pretty big line right there,
- 5:31especially to start the season. And for those who care
- 5:33about these things, and I know a lot of people
- 5:35out there do, the Eagles are also heavy favorites to
- 5:39repeat as NFC East champs, something that hasn't been done
- 5:43in the last twenty seasons. And all of that stuff,
- 5:45all those stats and odds, make me think about that
- 5:48one guy in the chat group, the group chat, I
- 5:52should say, every year, who hits that five leg parlay
- 5:55in Week one and then he doesn't shut up about
- 5:58it for the rest of the season. Well, you know what,
- 6:00we may hate that guy, but honestly we love him.
- 6:03We want to be that guy, and we could be
- 6:05that guy with my Bookie. My Bookie makes it stupid
- 6:09easy to get it on the action, whether it's the NFL,
- 6:12whether it's college games, Super Contest, you got Survivor pools
- 6:16going on. You can get all the spreads, the player
- 6:19props and in game lines you want under one roof
- 6:22with my Bookie. And if you're new to my Bookie,
- 6:26you want to listen real closely. Here use our code
- 6:29the birds all one word t H G, E, B I,
- 6:31r DS and any bet you choose up to five
- 6:35hundred dollars is fully covered. Make your play and if
- 6:38it doesn't hit, you get it right back when you
- 6:40opt in using your bet back bonus token. There's no
- 6:44better time to jump in and no better place to
- 6:46play football is back and let's make some money with
- 6:50my bookie. Adam, you're not that annoying guy in the
- 6:53group chat all the time. Just somethime going to say
- 7:00about this matchup?
- 7:01Speaker 4: Oh yeah, so something like Greg said him passing.
- 7:04Speaker 3: I remember when we were doing We're profing the Division
- 7:06with Greg, it was kind of known that Kyrie elam
- 7:09Is really was not a good fit for Buffalo scheme. Greg,
- 7:12you were talking about that he's more a man corner.
- 7:15So to me, I mean, you've seen Abraflus's defense, how
- 7:20does he fit.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Well? Eba Flus has not been a heavy, heavy man
- 7:26corner coach. But you know, I would say that Diggs
- 7:30is probably better as a man corner as well. So
- 7:33you would have to assume that they knew this when
- 7:36they hired eberflu so whether he's going to make a change. Look,
- 7:39coaches do do that. I mean I remember Robert Salah
- 7:43with the forty nine ers back when he came there
- 7:46initially his background with Seattle, that's how he started in
- 7:50the NFL, and he was on the staff with the
- 7:52Legion of Boom and it was all covered three as
- 7:55you and I'm sure many others recall. And then he
- 7:58started that way with the Night and saw the way
- 8:01the league was evolving and started to play a ton
- 8:03more of spit safety just because the league was evolving.
- 8:07So you know, it's very possible that we'll see more
- 8:10man coverage because there's no question Diggs is better at it.
- 8:15Like I said, Bland, they just signed to a big number,
- 8:18so I can't believe he's only going to play in
- 8:20the nickel, although he's a better off coverage corner than
- 8:23he's a pressman corner, because Bland is much more of
- 8:26a keyer and a cluer than he is a press corner.
- 8:29But Elam is clearly better as a pressman corner and
- 8:33is not a very good zone corner, which is one
- 8:36reason Adams. You just suggested correctly that he did not
- 8:39work in Buffalo because they play a lot of off coverage.
- 8:43Speaker 1: So interesting that you bring this up, the changing that
- 8:47a defensive coordinator will do to adjust because Matt eberflus
- 8:51if you were to change some of the way he
- 8:53ordinarily has schemed, he wouldn't be the first guy to
- 8:56do that. That's what Dan Quinn did right when he
- 8:58got to the Cowboys. He was known as the Cover three.
- 9:01Speaker 2: He was the legend of bloom guy too when they
- 9:03started playing a ton of.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Press, right right. So good coordinators cater to the strength
- 9:08of their personnel, and we'll see exactly what Matti Eberflus
- 9:12does here. The last time he was a defensive coordinator
- 9:15was with the Colts before he became head coach of
- 9:18the Bears. So let's stay on this theme then, of
- 9:21Cowboys defense Eagles offense against it. Kenneth Murray, you mentioned
- 9:25as an addition, a little light there at linebacker hasn't
- 9:29really lived up the first round billing. I was asked
- 9:31Craig and Adam in an interview with our ninety seven
- 9:34point three ESPN partners, if I felt that this would
- 9:37be the first sign of the Eagles moving toward a
- 9:40passing game a little bit more, or is this going
- 9:43to be run, run, run, And I said, well, you know,
- 9:45based on the Eberflus history, if he's going to play
- 9:47two safeties deep, or if they're gonna be light at linebacker.
- 9:50Why wouldn't you run the ball against this Dallas defensive front?
- 9:54Am I crazy for saying that?
- 9:55Speaker 2: Adam, Well, real quick, Yeah, is history, and I've been
- 10:01speaking to people around the league who offensive coaches is
- 10:05and again, things can change. So I don't want to
- 10:08sit here and have people think this is what he's
- 10:09going to do and we know for a fact, because
- 10:12we don't. But his history has been that he's somewhat
- 10:15predictable alignment wise on first and second down, but on
- 10:20third down you do get a lot of different things.
- 10:23So if he gets you in third and pure pass,
- 10:25you will see more different things. Now, let's remember one thing.
- 10:30This particular opponent with a quarterback who's really really good
- 10:34at scrambling and beating you with his legs. That often
- 10:37necessitates a change in how you play third and long.
- 10:41And when I say third and long, I don't mean
- 10:42third and sixteen. I mean let's say third and six
- 10:44to ten or six to eleven, where Hertz's legs are
- 10:48a big deal and must be accounted for.
- 10:52Speaker 4: Adam, Yeah, let me add this.
- 10:54Speaker 3: So if you look at their secondary right, and I
- 10:57understand that the offense starts with hurt. With Barkley, there's
- 11:01no question about that. But when you throw the football,
- 11:03let's consider Trayvon ditch right, he's missed a ton of time.
- 11:07He missed fifteen games in twenty three, missed six out
- 11:11of the final seven last season. The Cowboys made it
- 11:14pretty clear they did not expect him to be ready
- 11:16for the start of the season, as they talked about
- 11:17it's training camp. So Jeff, he's been practicing a decent
- 11:22amount of the last two weeks. But this is and
- 11:26Greg has closed us in on kind of what Diggs
- 11:28is at a corner. And we'll talk about that again
- 11:30with Greg in a second. But if you really look
- 11:33at it, Dallas is really.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Short a corner here. They're just not deep at all.
- 11:37Speaker 3: You've got Bland, who now the Eagles don't at least
- 11:41didn't last year run a lot of eleven personnel like
- 11:43they used to. And then you got Elom and then
- 11:45guys who really haven't played be for because Revel, the
- 11:47third round pick, is not ready. He's on NFI right,
- 11:51They've got a problem a corner here. I'm not sold
- 11:53you can't throw it against this team.
- 11:54Speaker 1: No, I would agree with you and Greg, when you
- 11:56say a coordinator tends to be more predictable on first
- 11:59and second down then likes to mix it up on third,
- 12:02I think a lot of offensive coaches like to say, well,
- 12:04then I want to pass on first and second down
- 12:07when they're predictable because I know what they're going to
- 12:09show me, and then let the pass set up my
- 12:12run if I have a good explosive running back. But
- 12:15I also remember us three doing inside the tape, which
- 12:18will be back this year, of course, on inside the
- 12:20Birds after games and showing especially maybe the first eight
- 12:25to ten weeks of the season last year, Greg, you
- 12:27might remember the Eagles trying to just throw in some
- 12:30basic passing routes on first and second down and either
- 12:33Hurts wasn't seeing it, or just wasn't working, and then
- 12:36the reflex was to go back to the run, and
- 12:37that's when bam, that would work and then later open
- 12:40up a nice deep threat for Jail and Hurts. So
- 12:43it'll be interesting to see Kevin Patula's approach. You're on that.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I again, none of us know. Okay, I don't
- 12:51want to say that every time, but it would not
- 12:53I would not be surprised if the Eagles came out
- 12:55throwing the football because I think I think we've heard
- 12:59all offseason and we've all said this, you know, because
- 13:03of what they were a year ago. You know, this
- 13:06was a team that had the most first down runs
- 13:08of any team in the league. This was a team
- 13:10that ran the ball on third and four to eight
- 13:12yards more than any team in the league by a
- 13:14wide margin. I would not be surprised if they come
- 13:19out throwing the football because I think right now you're
- 13:22totally uncertain as to what the Cowboys pass rush is
- 13:25correct yep, and the Eagles obviously have a really good
- 13:29old line that can pass protect, so we don't know
- 13:33if the Cowboys can rush the quarterback or not Adam
- 13:36as Adam aptly stated, Diggs is not probably going to
- 13:39be at the top of his game. He's only practiced
- 13:41for a couple of weeks. I know they gave Bland
- 13:43a lot of money, and I know he's made a
- 13:45lot of interceptions in a certain way, but he's not
- 13:48a great man to man corner elim is kind of
- 13:52an unknown in this particular scheme. So I would not
- 13:56be surprised if they came out and threw the ball.
- 13:59I mean, wasn't a couple of years ago in games
- 14:02where you know, Hurts had twenty five attempts in the
- 14:04first half. And I don't know why this just popped
- 14:07into my head, but wasn't there a Monday night game
- 14:09against Minnesota early in the season a few years ago
- 14:12and he had like twenty seven attempts in the first half,
- 14:15you know, I mean, every once in a while they
- 14:18do that. You know, I don't think that's going to
- 14:20be who they are all season, but it would not
- 14:23surprise me to see them come out being aggressive in
- 14:26the passing game.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Adam, Your favorite game last year was the Steelers game,
- 14:29Wasn't it? For that reason? They came out, threw the ball,
- 14:32they went no huddle right off the bat, Baltimore.
- 14:36Speaker 4: Hurts was really good in that game, like that was.
- 14:38Speaker 2: I thought that was one of his best games of
- 14:40the year as far as past games. I don't want
- 14:42to say just him the pass game, right.
- 14:44Speaker 1: He made really good window throws that game.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Even yes, that's where he's going to get to he
- 14:50actually is, much as it's with so many new people,
- 14:54you start going.
- 14:55Speaker 2: I love the point you just made, Jeff about the
- 14:57no huddle on the tempo. You could easily see that
- 15:00this is a veteran offense. Okay, the Eagles really have
- 15:03very few Do they have any new players on offense? Really,
- 15:07they do not. They don't have any ars.
- 15:09Speaker 4: Cooper snow but he's not gonna play much, right, No, I'm.
- 15:11Speaker 2: Talking about their main guys. Yeah, has played a lot
- 15:16of snaps. He's I mean, he's a new daughter, but
- 15:18it's not as if he's not played meaningful snaps. So
- 15:21they have no new players as their main group on offense,
- 15:25they can come out and go no huddle tempo without
- 15:27any issues of communication against the Cowboys defense with a
- 15:31lot of new pieces, a lot of players that haven't practiced,
- 15:34and now you're putting a real burden on their ability
- 15:38to communicate. And that would not surprise me at all.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Right, And of course, Adam we saw in the Super
- 15:44Bowl too, they had a plan to try to shut
- 15:46down Saquon Steve Spagnuolu being today and Jalen hurts through
- 15:50it and he threw it with conviction.
- 15:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:53Speaker 3: The matchups now obviously with Kenny Clark and Jerry Jones
- 15:58is obsessed the stop of the and I don't know
- 16:00how many times he said in his press conference, like
- 16:02Greg talked about it when we reviewed the trade. Greg said,
- 16:05Kenny Clark's a good player, but he's not quite what
- 16:07he wants was No. Diggey Zoo was a more up
- 16:10the field guy. So to me, a lot of the
- 16:12matchup chef as I center back to really really look
- 16:16good for the Eagles here.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Yeah. The last thing I want to focus on for
- 16:19this matchup of Dallas defense versus Eagles offense is obviously
- 16:23the The no Micah Parsons factor is very interesting. It's
- 16:27a great player. No one's gonna deny that. I've been
- 16:30thinking about it a lot, though, Greg. I do think
- 16:32over the long haul that that hurts the Cowboys unless
- 16:35one of these second rounders or two of them really
- 16:37come up. But when you think about pass rushing plans
- 16:40versus the Eagles, sometimes not having the guy who gets
- 16:44off the ball like Parsons or drives guys back isn't
- 16:47as important as the team pass rush defense plan, right,
- 16:51because you can't rush Jalen Hurts conventionally just get upfield,
- 16:55and because you mentioned that he runs away. I've always
- 16:58thought that the teams that do the best against Jalen
- 17:01are the ones that have a team plan of being
- 17:04able to keep them in the pocket, which means they rush,
- 17:07but then they drop back, they muddle rusher or mush rush,
- 17:10and in that case it takes more mental discipline and
- 17:13understanding lanes than it does just pure natural talent.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Yeah, but you're also speaking, Jeff about pure past type situations.
- 17:21If they're gonna come out and be aggressive, and just
- 17:23my thought, you know, we don't know that means they're
- 17:27going to throw a lot in normal down in distance.
- 17:29They could be in a twelve personnel, in which case
- 17:32the Cowboys would have their base defense more than likely
- 17:35on the field. Again, something we do not know, but
- 17:40you know, and then you get into many other factors
- 17:42and many other variables. So you know, yeah, if it's
- 17:45third and eight, Yeah, what you said is one hundred
- 17:47percent true. You know, and even though Hurts can obviously
- 17:51beat you throwing the ball, you know, the feeling would
- 17:55still likely be that you'd rather keep him in one
- 17:58spot where you know he's there, as opposed to have
- 18:01him run. You know, there's been so many plays over
- 18:05the last number of years where he's just a moralized
- 18:08defenses on third and eight and third nine, leaving the pocket.
- 18:11I mean the Super Bowl in that third quarter he
- 18:13had three of them against you know, one of the
- 18:15best coordinators in the game, probably a Hall of Fame
- 18:18type de coordinator in Steve Spagnolo. You know. So, yeah,
- 18:21that's the plan all the time when you play Jalen Hurts,
- 18:24I would imagine on third and pure pass. But if
- 18:27the Eagles come out aggressively, you know, then it's a
- 18:29whole different animal. Then you you probably don't have your
- 18:32pass rush group in the game. You're playing differently, your
- 18:35play calls are different on defense, so you know, it's
- 18:39it's gonna be interesting to see how the Eagles come out.
- 18:42I I can tell you this right now. I think
- 18:48that the Eagles. Every team would love to play like,
- 18:51you know, be in this situation, but you can try
- 18:53to be in this situation. It would not surprise me
- 18:55if the Eagles come out in this game and try
- 18:57to get ahead seventeen to nothing and then rear back
- 19:00rush the quarterback. We'll get to the to the Cowboys
- 19:03offense in a minute, but it ties into that. But
- 19:05I mean, it would not surprise me if that's the
- 19:08way they saw this game.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Got it all right, let's transfer let's flip the sides
- 19:12and talk about the Eagles defense versus the Cowboys offense. First,
- 19:15you have to hear a word from our great friends

- 19:50Speaker 1: All right, if you get a chance, make sure you
- 19:52go out a nice sunny day, go out and visit
- 19:54sky Motor Cars out there in Westchester, PA. Tell them
- 19:56Adam and Jeff Cintia. You will get a great deal.
- 19:59If you can't, certainly take a look at their inventory
- 20:02at skymotor Cars dot Com. All right, So this will
- 20:06be a big game for the Eagles defense. Unveiling. You know,
- 20:09we're expecting a Dori Jackson obviously to start a corner.
- 20:12We'll see what happens with safety. The good news is
- 20:15we should have done the injuries at the start. That's
- 20:16my fault. But everybody is good to go except for
- 20:19Tanner McKee, So we already knew that McKee was going
- 20:22to be out, and everybody else will play. Landon Dickerson
- 20:24will play, and Andrew mccooba could see and should see
- 20:28some time because he is eligible to play. So, Adam,
- 20:31what are your expectations for a defense that is going
- 20:34to be featuring a lot of new starters.
- 20:36Speaker 4: It's gonna be fascinating because.
- 20:40Speaker 3: If you just take a comprehensive approach of this football team,
- 20:43they're loaded on an offense. They could they they could
- 20:45have a number one offense in the National Football Game. Mean,
- 20:47that's how talented they are. But defensively with so many changes.
- 20:52Mar Joma first year starter, right Jahad campbell I first
- 20:56year started as a rookie who I know Greg talked
- 20:58about on our last show. He loved the inside of
- 21:01the tape. He loved the way that kimbl'sh tape look
- 21:04from the preseason. Jay alex Son a first time starter,
- 21:06Jory Jackson starting, what's he have left? Sidney Brown initially
- 21:11will start, but we know it's going to go to Maccooba.
- 21:13Sidney Brown really not a great fit for this defense.
- 21:16He's more of a box player. There are a lot
- 21:18of questions here, I mean, and and depth, you know,
- 21:21at at at edge, they're just there's so many questions now,
- 21:25I know if people like to bring this, Oh, they
- 21:27had so many questions lest year. Look how great they were.
- 21:29It's a different season. They're just taking you're making a
- 21:32general statement on their two there. They're two completely different
- 21:35things about different football players have to do different things.
- 21:39Speaker 4: So it's it's interesting. Are we going to get all
- 21:43the answers week one?
- 21:43Speaker 2: No?
- 21:44Speaker 3: Look, quite frankly, they didn't start to get the answer
- 21:48till they shut down Klint Kobiak and the Saints offense.
- 21:52Speaker 4: Was Vic talked about.
- 21:52Speaker 3: It took him four weeks, So I think we got
- 21:54to be careful of overrating week one. But I just
- 21:58I think it's fascinating because there's been a lot of
- 21:59chea and sometimes change is good.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Yeah, no doubt. Speaking of change, you know, Greg vic
- 22:04Fangio mentioned that he was working Quinyon Mitchell at both
- 22:07right and left corner this training camp in the event
- 22:11that he may want to use a guy to shadow
- 22:13another guy if the situation presents itself. I feel like
- 22:17in years past, Eagles Cowboys would have been perfect for
- 22:20that situation because Ceedee Lamb was really really their only
- 22:24guy that you would really worry about catching eight to
- 22:26ten passes and going off. They've always had some you know,
- 22:28Brandon Cooks is okay, but Lamb's their star. But now
- 22:31they add George Pickens to the mix. He is a
- 22:34true natural X and a very talented receiver. I can't imagine,
- 22:37and you know, I'll ask you this though, that this
- 22:39would be the game where we would see Quinnon follow
- 22:43one receiver around and then somebody else is just gonna
- 22:46have to take turns on Pickensan.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Likely not because you have to remember, you know, seventy
- 22:55two of Lamb's one hundred and fifty two targets came
- 22:57last year in a slot alignment. He's a movement motion
- 23:01receiver in the Cowboys offense because don't forget Broughton Schenheimer
- 23:05was there last year, so you know it's still his offense.
- 23:09So Lamb is not a guy who lines up predominantly
- 23:12in one spot. And I would doubt very much that
- 23:16Mitchell is going to start going inside to follow Ceedee
- 23:18Lamb that that won't happen. And Pickens he's a true
- 23:24boundary X. Now again, does that mean one hundred percent
- 23:26of the snaps to line up at boundary X. No,
- 23:29nobody's one hundred percent. But he's a true boundary X
- 23:32and it allows them to play Lamb as what he
- 23:35does best, which is move around. He's really good at that.
- 23:38So is it possible that that VIC could see Quinnon
- 23:42Mitchell matching up to Pickens on the outside regardless of
- 23:46what side. You know, the boundary X obviously lines up
- 23:49to the boundary, but then it depends on what hashmark
- 23:51the ball is on. Could Quinnon Mitchell do it?
- 23:54Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 23:54Speaker 2: Because the Dori Jackson's not big and Pickens is big,
- 23:58So is could it happen? And you know, I don't
- 24:00think it would happen every single time he's the boundary X.
- 24:03It could very well be a function of what the
- 24:05defensive call is. But I could see that happening in
- 24:09this game just because Pickens is you know, again we
- 24:14don't know the personality and the character and all that.
- 24:16That's not what we're discussing. But as a pure physical talent.
- 24:20He's a pretty special player and at six', three the
- 24:23way he moves and the way he can go up
- 24:25and get the, ball that would be a tough assignment
- 24:28For Dori.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Jackson, yeah, yeah it would. BE i, mean it seems
- 24:31Like dallas, Finally adam has a bunch OF i, Mean
- 24:34Jake ferguson, Healthy he's always had a good rapport With Dak.
- 24:37Prescot this feels like one of the more well rounded
- 24:40passing attacks in a. While But, adam what is the
- 24:42situation at left tackle for The cowboys and what would
- 24:47you expect because of?
- 24:47Speaker 4: It, yeah he had that odd.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Fracture they first thought it was AN acl but it
- 24:52want up being much less of an, injury but enough
- 24:55that he missed decent amount of camp and now he's,
- 24:58healthy he's. Clear he'll start Happens we talked about this.
- 25:01Earlier this week would Be Nate, thomas who was a
- 25:03seventh threader last. Year what did you think Of tyler's tape,
- 25:07LESSTER i don't, Remember, FUNNY i watched.
- 25:08Speaker 2: HIM i watched a lot Of cowboys this, week believe
- 25:11it or, not you, know in preparation for this as,
- 25:14well but just you, Know i've been going. THROUGH i
- 25:16have like sixty five pages and notes on Everything i've
- 25:19watched over the last three four weeks in THE. Nfl you,
- 25:22KNOW i kind of liked WHAT i saw From tyler
- 25:24guyt AND i think there's a lot there to be
- 25:26a good. Player he's very. Athletic he, kicks slides really.
- 25:31Well he moves his feet. Well he needs, AGAIN i
- 25:34don't know how he's taught to use his. HANDS i
- 25:36don't know the answer to. That the issue that he
- 25:39did have at times is that guys did get inside of,
- 25:42him and he needs to get. Stronger he needs to
- 25:45develop a better. Anchor none of this is surprising to
- 25:47me since he went To oklahoma as a tight end
- 25:49and he was only a one year starter a, tackle
- 25:52so none of this is. Surprising but he definitely needs
- 25:55to get better in terms of strength and. Anchor but
- 25:58he moves, really really, Well and to be honest with,
- 26:01YOU i was kind of surprised at. THAT i came
- 26:04away feeling, Like, oh there's there's a lot. THERE i
- 26:06probably shouldn't have been. Surprised he was the first round,
- 26:08pick AND i think a lot of teams would have
- 26:10taken him in the first. ROUND i don't think it
- 26:12was a big surprise that he went in the draft
- 26:14where he. Did but you, know but still the big
- 26:18question you face both With guyton and With Terence, steele
- 26:22who's been very up and down at right, tackle and
- 26:25this is, critical is can they pass protect one on
- 26:28one in pure pass. Situations, now now you get back
- 26:32To Nolan, smith j alexhn whoever else The eagles put
- 26:35out there on the, edge you, know can they do?
- 26:37That because there's going to be third and long, play
- 26:40second to long plays and they're going to have to
- 26:42pass protect one on, one so that becomes a. Factor
- 26:45we don't know the answer to.
- 26:46Speaker 1: That, NO i think THAT i think that that actually
- 26:49is a big determinant and whether this game is going
- 26:51to be a shootout type of game or if it's
- 26:53going to be a little bit more of a grinded
- 26:55out type of. GAME i would Think dallas is going
- 26:59to try to man you facture its running game sort
- 27:01of the way The eagles used to do prior to
- 27:03Having Saquon, barkley which is rely more on the power
- 27:07and the massiveness of their and the talent of THE
- 27:10o line than the actual running backs. Themselves because Between
- 27:13Javonte williams And Miles, sanders and we'll see what the rookie,
- 27:17has but he's Jayda On blue is not a heavy
- 27:19workload guy At. TEXAS i don't think That schottenheimer is
- 27:22going to not. RUN i think he's going to try
- 27:24to manufacture it and hope that the offensive line can
- 27:27make up for the deficiencies that he has among his running.
- 27:30Speaker 2: Backs well the same it's basically the same old line
- 27:33as a year, ago with the exception Of Tyler booker
- 27:35Replacing Zach, martin which is obviously a big deal Because
- 27:38Zach martin's probably A hall Of famer And booker was
- 27:41a really good prospect coming out Of, alabama much more
- 27:44of a smaller strong player than an athletic movement type.
- 27:48Player and you'd expect if It's Javonte williams that the
- 27:52run game would be much more of that style of
- 27:54run game, anyway much more maybe duo gap, scheme probably
- 27:58not much outside Zone booker's, game you, know he can't
- 28:02really do. That so and again we don't know About
- 28:04Davonte williams because when he came out of, COLLEGE, i
- 28:08among many, others thought that he could be a, really
- 28:10really good pro started out his Career denver pretty well
- 28:13and then had the major injury and just hasn't looked
- 28:16the same. Since now he's another year removed from. It,
- 28:19again if he's back To Javonte, williams he could give
- 28:23you a sustaining. Element that's because he was a powerful young.
- 28:26Man so we'll. See you, know who knows What Miles
- 28:30sanders has. Left jay Down blue is an interesting. Player
- 28:34he's he's a lower case in terms of how he
- 28:38could be. Deployed i'm not talking about this not apples To,
- 28:42apple SO i don't want people to think it's a direct.
- 28:44Comparison just in terms of how he could be. Deployed
- 28:48he's a lower. Case Jamir, gibbs he's an, explosive explosive.
- 28:52GUY i, mean people should just take a look at
- 28:54his touchdown run Against clemson and THE i think it
- 28:57was in one of the playoff games last. Year this
- 28:59guy has major juice and he's a very good. Receiver all,
- 29:04right good.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Stuff shorter show than usual because there's just not a
- 29:08whole lot of.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Tape this is all we can talk about That prescott
- 29:10a little. Bit if you, like yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
- 29:13when did you do it. STUDY i did a ton
- 29:16of tape on him this past. WEEK i went back
- 29:18and looked at you, know we only PLAYED i think
- 29:20nine games last, year and it WAS i was kind
- 29:26of intrigued and. DISAPPOINTED i, mean you, know HE i
- 29:32almost felt watching those nine. GAMES i felt like there
- 29:35was something wrong with his lower. Body you, know he's
- 29:37been injured a, lot and he's thirty two years old,
- 29:40now and it just he did not look like a comfortable.
- 29:44Thrower you, know he showed a strong tendency to initially
- 29:49lock his front leg as he started his. Delivery that
- 29:52often led him to have to lift it off the
- 29:54ground and kind of pull it back as he finished his,
- 29:56delivery so he didn't really transfer his. Weight he didn't
- 29:59really have poor. Torque he didn't drive the ball the
- 30:02way you would you would think he really needs to
- 30:06be balanced with his feet and a firm base to
- 30:08deliver the ball, well and he overstrides at. TIMES i,
- 30:12mean it, was he just he didn't look to me
- 30:16the WAY i remembered him, looking and it made me,
- 30:18think is it age is at a function of having
- 30:21so many. Injuries he's kind of tight hipped and heavy.
- 30:25Footed that's what he looked like on. Tape So i'm
- 30:27really curious to see him in this opening, game you,
- 30:31know coming off an off season where he had no, injury, like,
- 30:34well what was his injury last? Year? Hamstring? Right was
- 30:38it hamstring last? Year?
- 30:39Speaker 1: YEAH i think it was a.
- 30:40Speaker 4: Hamstring, Yeah i'm.
- 30:44Speaker 2: Sorry did he have a full off? Season was he? Okay, yes, yes,
- 30:47Yes SO i, mean with a full off. Season i'm
- 30:50curious to see him because he just he just looked
- 30:53like his lower half watching his tape from last, year you,
- 30:56know quote unquote before the, injury he just looked like
- 30:59an old litter quarterback who just was not.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Comfortable, wow that is interesting because he had made such
- 31:05strides the year. Before, yeah THE.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Mvp, VOTING i. BELIEVE i think you're.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Right, yeah, Yeah, WELL i.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Mean, curious you, know to see how he. Plays you,
- 31:16know he doesn't move like he used, to so, he's you,
- 31:19know at this point in his. Career he you, know
- 31:22he's kind of an executor and a ball. Distributor you,
- 31:24know you don't can he run for a first enery
- 31:27once in a, while, yes but you don't have to
- 31:29really defend. That if he does, it you tip your
- 31:31hat and you move. On to the next. Play you
- 31:32don't have to really defend him running. Around.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, WELL i mean it seems like The cowboys
- 31:37greg did their best to be able to give him
- 31:39more to work with if.
- 31:40Speaker 2: He and he needs space to deliver the football. Right
- 31:44and one THING i, noticed And i'm sure IF i,
- 31:46Noticed i'm. Not i'm one hundred percent sure IF i noticed.
- 31:49It he throws the ball better to his left than
- 31:52his right because he's kind of open that. Way when
- 31:54he had a Cross that's WHERE i thought his tight
- 31:57hips and his heavy feet kind of really showed up
- 31:59when he kind of cross his body and throw it.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, adam you wonder if part of That parsons
- 32:05trade to get that those picks was future quarterback in
- 32:08mind to be able to either package.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Them, Jeff, yeah it could.
- 32:13Speaker 3: Be, look they need they well they're hoping it As,
- 32:15raku not that he could Be Michael, parsons but by
- 32:18committee that they're they're going to be. Better this is
- 32:20a fun, game you, know it's a fun it's it's you,
- 32:22know it's week. One you were saying this to, start
- 32:25we'd all rather see this later in the. Season it
- 32:27is what it. Is BUT i clearly see why The
- 32:29eagles are. Favored they should, be And i'd be very
- 32:33surprised if this thing is like three points or.
- 32:36Speaker 4: LESS i really.
- 32:36Speaker 3: Do.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Yeah all, right, well, hey THAT'S i like where you're
- 32:40what you're, thinking because we're going to get to the
- 32:41part of the show that everybody loves the. Most that's
- 32:44where we give our outcoming prediction and.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Game i'm ready for you this, Week, Jeff i'm ready for.
- 32:48Speaker 1: You greg has. Studied all, Right, greg we'll start with.
- 32:52Speaker 2: You.
- 32:52Speaker 1: Then who's winning the game and who's going to be
- 32:54the m V.
- 32:55Speaker 2: P Jalen hurts is going to be THE mvp BECAUSE
- 32:57i believe they're going to throw the. FOOTBALL i believe
- 32:59they're going to throw it, well AND i think The
- 33:01eagles are going to win this game thirty four to.
- 33:04Speaker 1: Seventeen, nice all, right that's a BIG i think that
- 33:08people would be happy with, that very convincing. Win, adam
- 33:10who do you Got.
- 33:12Speaker 4: Yeah i've got. It thirty to Seventeen eagles thirty. Seventy,
- 33:17YEAH i know it's.
- 33:18Speaker 3: Around it's around the over under total week one more
- 33:21often not that numbers go. Under but, man With dallas's
- 33:24problems on defense and the cornerback Opposite. Mitchell there's Some
- 33:30i'm very interested to see how The campbell Plays thursday
- 33:33night and just all the guys that are having to, Play,
- 33:36folks be. Patient we'll see how the defense. Does but
- 33:39it's going to be a gradual thing with this.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Defense, yeah you. Know and by the, way who's your
- 33:43player of the, Game.
- 33:44Speaker 4: Oh player of the.
- 33:47Speaker 3: Game i'm gonna surprise you here BECAUSE i think the
- 33:54passing number will be a little bit better we EXPECTCAUSE
- 33:56i Expect prescott fert least forty. Times i'm gonna go
- 34:00With Dallas. Goddard, Okay i'm surprised. YOU i think ill
- 34:03just kind of a really good first.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Game did you mean you Expect hurts to throw forties
- 34:07or you're just saying it's gonna be a.
- 34:08Speaker 3: Shootout it's gonna Be it's gonna the tempo pass game
- 34:10Where trustcott knows they got to throw. It they can't
- 34:13run the, ball so they got to throw the, football
- 34:15And hurts will be successful and he's gonna Find godard
- 34:17over the.
- 34:18Speaker 4: Middle there you.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Go, Great, well we're all on the same page. Here
- 34:21i'm gonna give The cowboys a little more offensive credit,
- 34:23because like, you Said. Adam we've got to figure out
- 34:25what This eagles defense is going to look, like and
- 34:28it may not all be there in week. One So
- 34:30i'm gonna say The eagles win thirty one to twenty.
- 34:33Three so that's an eight point win that just covers the.
- 34:36Spread And i'm sort of in the same vein as you.
- 34:39GUYS i have a passing. Weapon it's gonna Be Devonte
- 34:42smith with a big game Against Dallas cowboys to be
- 34:45the GAME. Mvp week one pregame show is in the.
