- 0:03The state of the race.
- 0:06Welcome to the State of the Race podcast.
- 0:08Uh,
- 0:09it's a little bit of a different vibe for you today.
- 0:11Normally we post here and we appreciate that you follow
- 0:15the show for all the election updates.
- 0:17Uh,
- 0:17I've been on vacation though and so much has happened.
- 0:20And Glenn asked me to kind of give you a
- 0:22state of the race update on the radio show today,
- 0:24and I wanna make sure you didn't miss it.
- 0:26So this is sort of a special episode.
- 0:28This actually happened on the radio show today,
- 0:30but this should get you
- 0:31caught up
- 0:32to where I'm thinking and where we are right now in the craziest presidential race
- 0:37probably of all time.
- 0:39So
- 0:39here's your state of the race update for Friday,
- 0:42July 26th,
- 0:432024.
- 0:44We're talking about doing a little mini state
- 0:46of the race here after all of these changes
- 0:49and.
- 0:50And you,
- 0:50you tell me where I'm wrong on this,
- 0:52because I think one of the things people
- 0:54are
- 0:55worried about
- 0:56and thinking about at least is does Kamala
- 0:58Harris actually have a chance in this race?
- 1:01And
- 1:02I think the answer to that is.
- 1:05More of a chance than Joe Biden did.
- 1:07And that's enough of a reason to,
- 1:10to be rooting this entire time for Biden to stay in the race,
- 1:13because if you have a dynamic in which
- 1:16you are virtually guaranteed a victory and quite possibly a blowout victory,
- 1:22the last thing you want
- 1:24is for any changes to occur in that dynamic.
- 1:27So any change from Joe Biden to anyone.
- 1:32It is probably a bad thing at the end of the day for Donald Trump.
- 1:35It doesn't mean he's going to lose.
- 1:37It doesn't mean he is even the underdog.
- 1:39In fact,
- 1:39I,
- 1:39I don't think he is.
- 1:41I would,
- 1:42I would think that Kamala Harris is still the underdog,
- 1:45but
- 1:46there's very little that Kamala Harris
- 1:48does
- 1:49worse
- 1:50than Joe Biden.
- 1:51Of all the things that people complain about when it comes to Joe Biden,
- 1:55overwhelmingly so at the very top of the list is his age.
- 1:5986% of voters said he was too old
- 2:02to run for another term.
- 2:05And
- 2:06that number with Kamala Harris goes from 86% to 0%.
- 2:11So,
- 2:11just that change
- 2:13is a massive change in the dynamic and one
- 2:16you don't want to see if you're Donald Trump.
- 2:18That doesn't mean he's the underdog here.
- 2:20It doesn't mean he's going to lose by any means.
- 2:22But I will say that
- 2:24you better run this race as if
- 2:27Your
- 2:28A
- 2:29trip to the White House in January is being threatened.
- 2:32I think Trump and his team will do that,
- 2:34but it's not that you should not be
- 2:35overconfident even though Kamala Harris is a dolt.
- 2:39There's no doubt about that,
- 2:40but
- 2:41still,
- 2:42uh,
- 2:43she
- 2:44is going to get overwhelmingly positive media attention.
- 2:47They're going to do everything they can to hide her past.
- 2:50We've seen it already,
- 2:51that she didn't really support
- 2:53the people burning Minnesota to the ground and
- 2:56trying to get them bailed out of prison.
- 2:57No,
- 2:57you just imagine that.
- 2:59Uh,
- 2:59she wasn't really the border czar,
- 3:01that was just a made-up title that we happened to include
- 3:03in all our news reports a couple of years ago.
- 3:06It's already happening,
- 3:07and that will work on some people.
- 3:09We wouldn't complain about the media all the time.
- 3:12If it wasn't for the fact that some of their tactics will work
- 3:16if people don't know the truth.
- 3:19So,
- 3:19that's a real possibility,
- 3:21and I wouldn't.
- 3:23I wouldn't sit here and
- 3:24be panicked about Kamala Harris by any means,
- 3:27but
- 3:28concern should be there.
- 3:30Concern should be here.
- 3:31This is a more difficult race for him to win.
- 3:33I mean,
- 3:33if you just think about it this way,
- 3:34I,
- 3:35I watched the debate as everyone else did.
- 3:37We did Blaze TV coverage.
- 3:39And after that,
- 3:39I watched the CNN
- 3:41coverage of the debate just to watch them all wallow in,
- 3:43in what had just happened.
- 3:45And eventually,
- 3:46about halfway through,
- 3:47they brought on Kamala Harris as an interview to,
- 3:49to try to defend
- 3:50Joe Biden.
- 3:51And,
- 3:53Look,
- 3:53there's a massive difference.
- 3:54All of her word salad nonsense
- 3:56that we have captured at Veepthoughts.com,
- 3:59by the way,
- 3:59over the years,
- 4:00all that stuff is funny and it's bad,
- 4:02but it's nowhere near as bad
- 4:04as what Joe Biden put put on the table in that debate or really any other time since.
- 4:08She is capable of speaking.
- 4:10Yes,
- 4:11sometimes it's gibberish,
- 4:12but it is,
- 4:13these are at least known English words
- 4:16that she spits out.
- 4:19So,
- 4:19I kind of see this going one of two ways,
- 4:21where you have
- 4:22one way is she is seen as sort of a new candidate and,
- 4:26uh,
- 4:26gets a clean slate,
- 4:27and people start comparing her
- 4:30to what they just had
- 4:32in Joe Biden,
- 4:33and she will be able to clear that hurdle,
- 4:36maybe by not a lot.
- 4:37I don't think she's that,
- 4:38I think she's below replacement level
- 4:41Democrat,
- 4:42but that doesn't mean she can't clear the Joe Biden hurdle.
- 4:44She should be able to clear that.
- 4:47As far as communication and certainly with age.
- 4:50And so if all that stuff happens,
- 4:51what you're looking at is probably a close election.
- 4:54The type of election you would have imagined,
- 4:56you know,
- 4:57if,
- 4:58if a,
- 4:58you know,
- 4:58Joe Biden was
- 5:0065 and able to speak,
- 5:02some sort of generic Republican.
- 5:06Versus Democrat type of race,
- 5:07and of course that's gonna be close because,
- 5:10as you may have noticed,
- 5:12there's a good
- 5:13percentage of the population that does have Trump derangement syndrome,
- 5:17and they will not vote for Trump no matter what,
- 5:19so they will not even consider him.
- 5:21And that,
- 5:23you know,
- 5:23some people,
- 5:25and when Biden was the candidate,
- 5:26were bailing on Biden and going to other candidates,
- 5:29whether it's Cornel West or Jill Stein or RFK Junior,
- 5:31whoever it was.
- 5:34You know,
- 5:34that,
- 5:35those people are kind of allowing themselves to come home.
- 5:38That's scenario one.
- 5:39Scenario two is the one I would wish would happen
- 5:41was that people would see this as what it was.
- 5:44I mean,
- 5:44basically a coup attempt.
- 5:46Where they
- 5:47overthrew the candidate that won the primary
- 5:50because they thought he was gonna lose.
- 5:52And
- 5:53people will recognize that
- 5:55Kamala Harris
- 5:57lied to the American people
- 6:00profusely for years about the mental acuity of this president,
- 6:04lied over and over and over again,
- 6:05and was a major,
- 6:07if not the major force
- 6:09in the cover-up
- 6:10of his mental well-being.
- 6:13And now continues to lie for him to,
- 6:15for so that he can remain in office for whatever
- 6:18deal they made for her to get the nomination.
- 6:22If people see it that way,
- 6:24and there's some evidence that they do,
- 6:26you could be looking at not only a blowout,
- 6:27but maybe a blowout that's even larger than what would have happened with Biden,
- 6:31if there's that feeling that this was a cover-up and she should be held responsible.
- 6:35There is new polling out on this,
- 6:36by the way,
- 6:37uh,
- 6:3754% of voters believe
- 6:40there was a cover-up of Biden's mental,
- 6:43uh,
- 6:43state.
- 6:4430% don't believe that.
- 6:47Of the people who do believe it though,
- 6:49of the 54%,
- 6:51almost every single person thinks Kamala Harris is responsible for it.
- 6:53I think it's 92%.
- 6:55So it is a major,
- 6:57major factor.
- 6:59Um,
- 7:00it is.
- 7:01You know,
- 7:02I,
- 7:02it's the type of thing I look at it.
- 7:03It was probably a,
- 7:04a 10% chance that Trump lost
- 7:06when Biden was the nominee.
- 7:08Now it might be 40%.
- 7:10And I think people might think that's too high.
- 7:14But
- 7:14at the end of the day,
- 7:16she is a bad Democrat.
- 7:18She's not good at this.
- 7:19You will find all sorts of things that annoy you and she will be terrible,
- 7:23but
- 7:24the bar to clear is Joe Biden right now,
- 7:27and if that bar is cleared,
- 7:30you're not excited about it,
- 7:31if you're Donald Trump.
- 7:34Um,
- 7:35we can look at some of the polling
- 7:37since the Biden dropout and the assassination attempt.
- 7:40It all shows Biden and Harris really close,
- 7:43frankly,
- 7:44most of it does just show it as a close race.
- 7:46She seems to be polling slightly better than Biden was,
- 7:50but again,
- 7:50Biden,
- 7:51even after the debate was only behind by 3 points or so in the national polls.
- 7:57That is not necessarily good news for Democrats.
- 7:59Obviously,
- 8:00being behind is bad,
- 8:01but also they probably need to win by
- 8:04about 2,
- 8:052.5 points in the popular vote to actually win
- 8:07the election when it comes to the electoral college.
- 8:09So that'll be something to watch.
- 8:10They can't just be behind by 1
- 8:12and be the favorites.
- 8:13They will still be the underdogs.
- 8:15Uh,
- 8:15it's a fascinating thing to watch.
- 8:18We'll need a couple more weeks on the polls to really,
- 8:20uh,
- 8:20to really note.
- 8:21I will say one thing that's been interesting
- 8:22is RFK Junior's support sort of falling apart
- 8:26since Kamala became the nominee.
- 8:27Those Democrats kind of
- 8:29bailing on him,
- 8:29going back.
- 8:30And
- 8:31I've seen two polls now where
- 8:32RFK Junior is now hurting Trump more than Biden,
- 8:36which is a reversal
- 8:37to months and months and months of polling before that.
- 8:41And that could be a factor going forward.
- 8:44As well.
- 8:45We cover this on State of the Race.
