Transcript
- 0:00Grand Touring Motorsports started as a social group of car enthusiasts,
- 0:04but we've expanded into all sorts of motorsports disciplines, and we
- 0:08want to share our stories with you.
- 0:10Years of racing, wrenching, and motorsports experience brings
- 0:13together a top notch collection of knowledge and information
- 0:17through our podcast, Brake Fix.
- 0:22After drag racing his vintage convertible around Palm Springs, a retired
- 0:26NASA test pilot loses his license.
- 0:28Forced to take public transportation, he meets Caroline and learns to
- 0:32navigate love and life again.
- 0:35Does he, though?
- 0:36Where did you get that dribble from?
- 0:38IMDb?
- 0:39It makes this movie sound amazing, doesn't it?
- 0:42Just like the trailer.
- 0:43No.
- 0:44I'm surprised you didn't say his vintage Porsche though.
- 0:47We're gonna get to that.
- 0:48That's right.
- 0:49Hey everybody, I'm Steve and I'm busy and we're with everything other from movies.
- 0:55. Thanks for having us.
- 0:55Thanks for coming back.
- 0:57This is one of these movies that we just couldn't pass up.
- 1:01It sounds like a recipe for success.
- 1:03And I think we asked ourselves how in the.
- 1:05Did we miss this gem?
- 1:07Well, of course we're talking about 20, 20 one's.
- 1:10Senior moment starring William Shatner.
- 1:13That's right.
- 1:14What did we calculate?
- 1:14He was 87-year-old William Sha seven leaving yesterday.
- 1:17Yeah, he was 90 years old when he filmed movie.
- 1:19Oh, he's nine.
- 1:20Oh, so he is 93 now.
- 1:21Yeah, even more impressive to pull off.
- 1:23I think he says he's 72 or whatever.
- 1:25And I'm like, wait, that math isn't working out.
- 1:27That's when we started like Googling.
- 1:28It's the Melissa Joan heart effect.
- 1:30She was 16 for two decades.
- 1:34You told us about this movie.
- 1:35That's the only way I know it existed, honestly.
- 1:37But looking into it is like, I don't even know what this has to do
- 1:40with like, Oh, vintage convertible.
- 1:42Okay.
- 1:42Here we go.
- 1:43Never forget.
- 1:44It's got to have a car in it.
- 1:45Something special.
- 1:48And who do we have on board with us?
- 1:50Right?
- 1:50We've got Steve and Izzy from Everything I Love for Movies.
- 1:52And on our side, we've got Mount Mandan, not to be confused with Mount Mike.
- 1:56That's right.
- 1:56We got Tanya from the drive thru and Brad is back.
- 1:59Brad, welcome back.
- 2:00Thank you.
- 2:01Thank you.
- 2:02We are talking about what movie, what is this epic William Shatner flick?
- 2:05Senior moment from 2021.
- 2:08Fresh out of the COVID.
- 2:09Yeah.
- 2:11From director Giorgio Serafini.
- 2:1416?
- 2:14Oh, I'm glad you asked.
- 2:1539 episodes of Orgoglio.
- 2:1825 of Genta de Mare.
- 2:202011 movie starring Wesley Snipes called Game of Death.
- 2:23No, not the Bruce Lee one.
- 2:24Oh my.
- 2:25A 2014 movie starring Kung Li and Dolph Lundgren called Puncture Wounds.
- 2:30200 degrees.
- 2:31Flashburn, Pegasus, colon, pony with a broken wing, The Tracker.
- 2:36The Tracker?
- 2:37Apparently it's a 2019 movie starring Logan.
- 2:40Oh, not Tracker.
- 2:41I, I didn't look into it.
- 2:42Maybe it's about an alien bounty hunter coming to Chicago.
- 2:46Not the Adrian Paul vehicle.
- 2:48That's right.
- 2:49Or that new show that's after the Super Bowl.
- 2:51This, and apparently it has four upcoming movies, but all of them
- 2:54have Italian titles, so we'll see when they come out, I guess.
- 2:58So what I got from that is, none of these things are quite like the others,
- 3:02meaning the people in the movie that have a relationship to either William
- 3:06Shatner, Or Star Trek, or both.
- 3:08So, right out of left field.
- 3:10Yeah, I was disappointed too.
- 3:11I was expecting Dolph Lundgren in the lead role.
- 3:13Can you imagine?
- 3:14In a slightly different movie.
- 3:15He plays a pretty good old guy.
- 3:16But yeah, it would be more like on the Liam Neeson front
- 3:19than on the Shatner front.
- 3:21Less comedy and more killing.
- 3:23I enjoy the comedic stylings of William Shatner.
- 3:26We're gonna make references.
- 3:28to some of his other shows that he's been on as we talk about this movie.
- 3:31But Stephen Izzi, who stars alongside of William Shatner in this movie?
- 3:36Oh, not a star in this guy, but they're all in this movie.
- 3:39Everyone is in this.
- 3:40Yeah, we have Gene Smart as Carolyn, aka Love Interest.
- 3:44We have Sir Christopher Lloyd as Sal Spinelli.
- 3:47When did Christopher Lloyd, who did I say he was looking like?
- 3:54Christopher Lloyd has turned into the grandpa from Charlie
- 3:56and the Chocolate Factory.
- 3:57Yes, that's what that is.
- 4:00Let's make sure we get his character's name right.
- 4:02Did you catch the full name of Sal?
- 4:05Sal Spinelli?
- 4:06He is Giuseppe Salvatore Spinelli.
- 4:09Oh, he should have been in the Lamborghini movie we did.
- 4:12100%!
- 4:14Also, we have Isai Morales.
- 4:16Do you know where Esai Morales?
- 4:17He's most notable for a lot of things, but in the sci fi world,
- 4:20if we're relating this to Shatner, do you know what he starred in?
- 4:24I don't know, Babylon 5?
- 4:25I haven't seen that.
- 4:26Oh, no.
- 4:27I'll give you a clue.
- 4:28The prequel to BSG.
- 4:29The prequel to Battlestar Galactica?
- 4:31Battlestar Galactica prequel?
- 4:32Caprica?
- 4:33He was Bill Adama in Caprica.
- 4:35And the man hasn't aged since he was a young Edward James almost in Caprica.
- 4:40He was Edward James almost his dad.
- 4:42Oh, I fell off after like season five of BSG.
- 4:48You fell off after it was over.
- 4:49All the spinoffs, like razor and Caprica came up.
- 4:55I'm like, nah, I'm good.
- 4:56Thanks though.
- 4:57Eating the entire steak and then trying to return it.
- 5:00Beth Littleford, Joe Estevez, everybody's favorite Estevez.
- 5:05That's all I really have written down.
- 5:06I saw the Estevez guy, 'cause he was, he was on, on the bus
- 5:10sitting next to Chatter and he was part of his friend group, right?
- 5:12Mm-Hmm?
- 5:13. I thought it was the dad.
- 5:14I thought it was Martin Sheen at first.
- 5:16Oh, it's Martin Sheen's brother.
- 5:17There is such a strong family resemblance between the Estevez's and the sheen.
- 5:22Yes.
- 5:22I mean, I said the same thing, almost like they're from the same family.
- 5:25. I know.
- 5:26Are they related?
- 5:29It's almost like they're all really Estevez's.
- 5:33It's true though.
- 5:34So do we know the relationship between Christopher Lloyd and William Shatner?
- 5:39They both traveled through time, obviously.
- 5:41I'm assuming they were lovers in the sixties.
- 5:43Experimental.
- 5:44It's better still.
- 5:44Tanya, do you know you're a Trekkie?
- 5:46You should know this.
- 5:47She looks just as confused as the rest of us.
- 5:49I'm not aware that Christopher Lloyd was ever in Star Trek.
- 5:52Was he in one of the movies?
- 5:53Oh, cool.
- 5:54Are you referring to Star Trek 3, the search for Spock?
- 5:57Yeah, he was one of the Klingons on the battle cruisers.
- 6:01Nobody would have guessed that.
- 6:03Nope, not at all.
- 6:04There is an interesting relationship between Jean Smart and William Shatner,
- 6:08but it has nothing to do with Star Trek.
- 6:10Do you guys know how the two of them have worked together in the past?
- 6:13Nerd alert.
- 6:14It wasn't on Designing Women.
- 6:17Or Frasier or any of the other shows that she's been on.
- 6:20Yeah.
- 6:20If it's not Devil Rain, that's the only other Shatner thing I know.
- 6:23Incubus?
- 6:24Were they in that together?
- 6:25She was on four episodes of Shit My Dad Says, which starred William Shatner.
- 6:31I've never heard of that.
- 6:32It was like a hot minute thing that fizzled out almost right away.
- 6:36It was the hot in Cleveland of its day.
- 6:38Scraping the depths of the internet for that one.
- 6:40I want to know where Henry Winkler was.
- 6:42Like, what was he doing that he was too busy to be in this amazing movie?
- 6:47Where, where is The Fonz.
- 6:49Fly fishing in Montana, I believe.
- 6:51Amy Oakley.
- 6:52Got a Sandler movie.
- 6:52Yeah, probably.
- 6:54He said, screw you, Shatner.
- 6:55I've got Sandler now.
- 6:56Is Harvey Keitel still around?
- 6:58I think he would have been good in this, too.
- 6:59He doesn't do bad movies.
- 7:01That's, uh, Monkey Trouble starring Thora Birch.
- 7:04Yeah.
- 7:06See, Harvey Keitel's a pimp.
- 7:08It's gonna be great.
- 7:08So we're talking about the director.
- 7:10We're talking about the cast.
- 7:12Did you guys catch the production company of this movie?
- 7:14Oh, are you afraid to chicken soup for the soul entertainment?
- 7:17Yes!
- 7:18I didn't even know that was the thing.
- 7:20What other movies are in their portfolio?
- 7:22They're saving the world.
- 7:23Oh, I think they own Hallmark now.
- 7:26Yeah.
- 7:27It wasn't turn 10.
- 7:30No, it was not, but we'll get to that too.
- 7:32And we're going to go through this movie.
- 7:33That's the unfortunate part.
- 7:35It's one of those movies where the trailer gives you the whole
- 7:38movie in that three minutes.
- 7:40You begin to wonder why you're watching the movie as it's unfolding.
- 7:44And it's unfortunate because careful editing in the trailer really draws
- 7:48you in to what it could be and the potential that it could have.
- 7:50I will say I thought this movie was going to be a lot different
- 7:53than it turned out to be.
- 7:54And obviously we'll decompose it as we, we'll dissect it as we go along here.
- 7:59Again, I went into this with super high hopes.
- 8:01Guys, I know you want to watch this.
- 8:03We're really selling it to you.
- 8:05Don't worry, it's available on Tubi, Crackle, Flex, Redbox, all for free.
- 8:10They will not accept your money.
- 8:11Amazon will, but Tubi and all these other noble services,
- 8:15they'll let you watch it for free.
- 8:16I'm ashamed to admit I pulled a Brad on this one.
- 8:19I spent the 3 to rent it on Vudu so that there would be no commercials.
- 8:23because I couldn't do the Tubi thing again and make this thing like four hours long.
- 8:29Yes, Tubi's not bad.
- 8:30Freebie's the one that like will double the length of a movie.
- 8:33Oh my god, Freebie is unwatchable at this point.
- 8:362.
- 8:3699 to rent it on Vudu.
- 8:38Or free on Tubi.
- 8:39So yeah, after Chicken Soup for the Soul comes up and Steve can't stop laughing,
- 8:43we see Shatner just hosing down his Porsche with some Mildly suggestive
- 8:49voiceover, and I'm like, what have you signed us up for by watching this movie?
- 8:54Like, oh, you like that, don't you, baby?
- 8:56Oh, get you nice and clean.
- 8:58There wasn't anything mild about that voiceover.
- 9:01He was making love to that car.
- 9:03The best part is I wrote down, nice chihuahua.
- 9:07What?
- 9:09I eat chihuahua.
- 9:11Oh, so bad.
- 9:12Yeah.
- 9:13You're a dirty girl.
- 9:16Beautiful card.
- 9:17We'll talk more about that as we go along because they shot it at weird angles.
- 9:21I was able to catch a glimpse of a couple of things and do some research
- 9:24and kind of dive into that and what its significance is and all this
- 9:27kind of stuff is put on the car.
- 9:29So it's victory, which I never really.
- 9:31Got the purpose of that through the movie, but So here's the thing.
- 9:35They refer to him being like an award winning like famous race
- 9:38car driver from I assume the 60s?
- 9:41That he was also like a NASA test pilot and like a bunch of other things?
- 9:45And I was waiting for him to throw out like Starship Federation Captain and
- 9:48shit too, but it's like, oh, he's done all these incredible things, cool.
- 9:52But you know, he's just chilling in Palm Springs and has his like three
- 9:55buddies, Joe Estevez, Christopher Lloyd, and uh, Charlie Grandpa, that's thing.
- 10:01But I didn't pick up on race car driving.
- 10:02No, I didn't either.
- 10:03And Tanya and I watched it together, and she knows I was taking copious
- 10:06notes while we were going through this.
- 10:08I wanna know why he had a fancy Porsche 3 56 convertible parked
- 10:13under a carport because it's Palm Springs and it never rains.
- 10:16Yeah.
- 10:16Yeah.
- 10:16But I, I don't care.
- 10:18Like I, I'm gonna have that thing parked in a garage somewhere behind it.
- 10:21Offensive hedges.
- 10:22Or you would think NASA test pilot would be able to afford something a little
- 10:25nicer than my grandmother's house.
- 10:27That house in Palm Springs is two and a half million dollars.
- 10:30So let's be real.
- 10:31Okay.
- 10:31Yeah.
- 10:32I mean, this is chicken soup for the soul money we're dealing with here.
- 10:35Yeah, true, true, true.
- 10:36You can't rent out a Frank Lloyd Wright mansion or something.
- 10:40So what I got from the license plate was First of all, his
- 10:44name is Major Victor Martin.
- 10:45That's part of it.
- 10:46I'm wondering if maybe the name of his ship was Victory or Victory
- 10:49is obvious because he's winning.
- 10:51He's got that sort of bravado about him where he's like, I'm winning the world.
- 10:55Everybody knows me.
- 10:56He's super popular.
- 10:57So it sort of made sense that his vanity plate said Victory.
- 11:00I didn't read too much more into it.
- 11:02Yeah, I can get the old type mentality as to why.
- 11:04I thought it was more an homage to Entourage and Johnny Chase.
- 11:10Oh, man, there were a couple of those shots where I'm like, wait a minute.
- 11:14This is like the great grandparents.
- 11:17This is Johnny Chase.
- 11:18Johnny Drama.
- 11:19Yeah.
- 11:19Vincent Chase.
- 11:21Turtle.
- 11:22Yeah.
- 11:22I mean, there is a little bit of that toxic masculinity running route
- 11:25this movie, which was surprising for basically a Hallmark film.
- 11:30I related that victory vanity plate back to his personality.
- 11:36He's winning.
- 11:36Everything is winning, which is actually ironic considering the
- 11:40plot of the movie as thin as it is.
- 11:42He's losing every time he turns around and his world sort of falling apart.
- 11:47Izzy, this is where you psychoanalyze this stuff, right?
- 11:50Does this film deserve that?
- 11:52Oh, shockingly, there was not a lot of character development here.
- 11:56What is that?
- 11:57I never saw any of that in this movie.
- 11:59Can I watch a different movie than you guys?
- 12:02I don't know.
- 12:02He's an old retired guy with a car right now.
- 12:04He seems quite happy and then he does some dipshittery stuff and gets his license
- 12:08taken away because he's being targeted.
- 12:10Then he drives dangerously, you know, because he's like 90.
- 12:13I don't know.
- 12:14I feel like this is a PSA about targeting old people.
- 12:17I do love how like Beth Littleford is the Local lawyer or attorney.
- 12:22I don't know exactly what, but she's like, I'm cracking down on
- 12:24these old people driving around.
- 12:26Yeah.
- 12:26The district.
- 12:28Yeah.
- 12:28And I love that scene where she's standing there.
- 12:30We'll get to it during the driving test with the binoculars looking like
- 12:33the principal for Ferris Bueller.
- 12:35Why is the DA targeting senior citizens?
- 12:40What the hell is wrong in Palm Springs that the DA has nothing better to do than
- 12:45target senior citizens driving poorly.
- 12:48Yeah, I was imagining this story happening more in Florida since
- 12:51there's large elderly population there.
- 12:53They would have to change the title then it would be Florida Man.
- 12:57It should have been called Florida Man anyway.
- 12:59So you may be wondering, wait, why is he getting in trouble?
- 13:01Well, for example, beginning of the movie, he picks up his buddy,
- 13:04Christopher Lloyd, you know, Sal, whatever, and they go drive in.
- 13:07And then, uh, some guy in an Impala on the hydraulics or whatever showing off.
- 13:11I don't know.
- 13:12He makes some small theft auto joke that I'm like, All right, I assume
- 13:16that was a pause for laughter.
- 13:18Okay, so you understood what he said because we were trying
- 13:21to figure it out a small what?
- 13:23Small theft auto.
- 13:25Yeah, the joke was what do you call a cholo in an Impala?
- 13:28Small theft auto.
- 13:30And then it was like silent.
- 13:31It's not funny.
- 13:32Okay, uh, yeah, I didn't get it either.
- 13:36I was like, what?
- 13:37I'm not gonna go down that road.
- 13:39Yeah, right.
- 13:40Yeah So they test the manhood light turns green Rupee pills out of there and then
- 13:45yeah gets pulled over by the cops and all right First of all, I'm gonna call flag
- 13:49on the play here I don't know that there's a 356, at least stock one, in history,
- 13:55that makes a whopping 44 horsepower, they could lay rubber like that on the asphalt.
- 14:00You dump the clutch.
- 14:02Oh no, he's got a gen engine in there.
- 14:04Oh, oh, okay.
- 14:05Off the victory spaceship.
- 14:07Yeah, got it.
- 14:08It's LS swapped.
- 14:10Were those cars posse or were they open diff in the rear?
- 14:14Dude, 1955.
- 14:16We're not talking about posse.
- 14:18Dan's nerding out.
- 14:20The funny thing is, if you actually look at it in the movie, it looks
- 14:22like they painted the tire marks.
- 14:24It's not even 100%.
- 14:25100%.
- 14:26Yeah, no, there's no way.
- 14:27No, it seems like a tire track, you know, there's no actual spinning of the tire.
- 14:31So all I hear is Marissa Tomei and my cousin Vinny with the paws attraction.
- 14:37Beautiful car.
- 14:39I am trying to figure out which model 356 it is.
- 14:43And I'll get to that as we go along here.
- 14:45So she, when it gets impounded, we get a better view of what it is.
- 14:48Cause I noticed at first I thought it was a speedster, but it's
- 14:51not anyway, we'll get to that.
- 14:52How many Impalas were used in the making or harmed in the making of this movie?
- 14:57Because every time they showed the Impala, it had a different license plate.
- 15:00Oh, you noticed that too?
- 15:01Well, that's just to keep the cops off your tail.
- 15:03It's like the transporter where he's got that button and they flip.
- 15:05He's got the flip, yeah.
- 15:07So yeah, I get pulled over by the cops and it's like a friendly little lady cop
- 15:10who's like, Victor, you can't do this.
- 15:13You know, the DA is cracking down on you old folks doing this street racing shit.
- 15:18And I'm like, what?
- 15:19No, stop it.
- 15:22And that's when I was kind of hoping it was gonna be like a Fast and Furious,
- 15:25but starring, you know, William Shatner, Christopher Lloyd, Joe Estevez.
- 15:29That would have been a better movie.
- 15:31Totally.
- 15:32I was envisioning like a Ferris Bueller thing, you know, with the
- 15:35Ferrari flying over the hill going into Chicago and all that kind of stuff.
- 15:39There could have been moments with this 356.
- 15:42Things could have happened.
- 15:43Shenanigans.
- 15:44Yeah, you were expecting pure fuckery, and that's not what
- 15:47this movie turned out to be.
- 15:48No, no, 100%.
- 15:49No.
- 15:49You know what?
- 15:50This car is in this movie about as much as Godzilla's in the 2013 Godzilla.
- 15:57Well, did you guys at least catch the compliment that he gave?
- 16:00He talked about the lady cop's posterior as she was walking away.
- 16:03Oh, Jesus.
- 16:06This is another one of those people.
- 16:08It's like two hard boiled eggs doing the salsa.
- 16:11What?
- 16:12Oh my god.
- 16:13I mean, again, every joke seemed to just completely DOA the minute it left.
- 16:18Maybe we would have understood them better if we were also 80.
- 16:22Maybe.
- 16:2290.
- 16:23Maybe these are jokes from that generation.
- 16:25Look, we watched it with my 73 year old mother and she
- 16:28did not think they were funny.
- 16:29Oh, well, she's just not cool.
- 16:32She's super cool.
- 16:32Her favorite movie in the whole world is Boy and His Dog.
- 16:35I mean, she's the target demographic, Brad.
- 16:3673 years old.
- 16:37I mean, she is the target demographic, Brad.
- 16:39I don't think there is a target demographic for this movie.
- 16:42They just cast a wide net.
- 16:43Alright, so we got this drag race.
- 16:45He gets pulled over by the Mayberry cops.
- 16:47And, you know, they let him off with a warning.
- 16:49And he just kind of takes off again like a bat out of hell.
- 16:52Yeah.
- 16:52And he's going to a calendar shoe at the airport with,
- 16:58I hope this model got paid well, because as much as she's in this
- 17:01movie or just lady in her twenties or whatever, but like William Shatner and
- 17:06Christopher Lloyd are just kind of there taking pictures with her and stuff.
- 17:08She's an actual actress.
- 17:10She's not just a model.
- 17:11She's was in a couple of TV series.
- 17:13More importantly, my wife pointed out, this is another one of these moments
- 17:16where we can't tell how old people are.
- 17:19She played the intern who was barely dressed.
- 17:22On 30 rock and how long ago was that?
- 17:25Okay.
- 17:25All right.
- 17:26Yeah.
- 17:26I know what you're talking about.
- 17:27All right.
- 17:27Yeah.
- 17:28Good for her.
- 17:29So she got paid.
- 17:29Like I said, not a star in the sky.
- 17:31They're all in this movie.
- 17:32Speaking of stars in the sky.
- 17:33We meet another one here very soon, right?
- 17:36Oh, we go to the bar and we see Joe Estevez as one of his bar buddies.
- 17:39Oh yeah.
- 17:40That, and then we keep going.
- 17:41They keep piling on.
- 17:42We keep bringing people in.
- 17:44I feel like Joe Estevez is like the Steven Baldwin.
- 17:46He's the Daniel Baldwin.
- 17:48He's the Estevez that nobody knows.
- 17:49Like this is his only.
- 17:51He's not anything else.
- 17:53Oh, Brad, you might want to look up Joe Estevez's IMDb.
- 17:57He has been in like I really don't want to.
- 17:59500 movies.
- 18:01500?
- 18:02Oh, absolutely.
- 18:02Is he the Kevin Bacon of the Estevez family?
- 18:04He's more like the, uh Serving coffee does not count as being in the movie.
- 18:10Yeah, he pops in everywhere.
- 18:12It doesn't count if he's cast by his father.
- 18:16No, moon.
- 18:17First off, Martin Sheen is his brother, not his father.
- 18:21Oh god, that makes it even worse.
- 18:22He's Emilio's dad.
- 18:23Uncle.
- 18:24Uncle.
- 18:24That's what it is.
- 18:25Uncle.
- 18:25He's a drunk uncle.
- 18:26Emilio and Charlie.
- 18:27Charlie.
- 18:28Arlo Sestavez.
- 18:29They're brothers as president Cock.
- 18:31This is gonna spiral into a debate about, are the sheen Sheens?
- 18:34Are they Esteves?
- 18:35Like, oh, they're all esteves.
- 18:37They're all esteves.
- 18:37Look, every sheen is an estevez, but not every estevez is a sheen.
- 18:41Michael Sheen is an Estevez.
- 18:43Yes.
- 18:43The guy from Good Omens.
- 18:44Yes.
- 18:45The guy from Toronto.
- 18:46Yeah.
- 18:48Okay.
- 18:48Cause I have in a box, I put a box around it.
- 18:51Who is the captain?
- 18:52Do you remember the guy playing the piano in the bar?
- 18:55And I looked and I looked and I'm like, is that the captain
- 18:57from like captain and Tennille?
- 18:59Is it the captain from the love boat?
- 19:01You know, I don't know.
- 19:02I looked on IMDB.
- 19:03He's uncredited.
- 19:04So who is this guy?
- 19:05He kind of looked like Fred Willard, but I know it wasn't him, but it was someone.
- 19:10So I was like, Oh, maybe he's in one of those Christopher guest movies
- 19:13and I just don't know their name.
- 19:14But there was a moment where we went back to the bar for like no reason.
- 19:18And again, the captain's playing on his Casio keyboard.
- 19:21So the captain is dead from captain and steel.
- 19:24Daryl dragon died in 2019.
- 19:26His name was Daryl dragon.
- 19:28Captain dragon, captain dragon.
- 19:30Really?
- 19:31So that was the guy in the movie.
- 19:33No, the movie was made 20.
- 19:35Something else, right?
- 19:36He died in 1984 or something.
- 19:37It was his ghost.
- 19:39What had to have been filmed in like 2019, because one of the other
- 19:42characters, the guy that was on The Rascal, the old guy that lost his
- 19:44Cadillac, he died in 2020 as well.
- 19:46That guy has a credit.
- 19:48His name is like Ted Wallace in IMDb.
- 19:51But the captain at the bar doesn't have a credit?
- 19:53I don't get it.
- 19:54How rude is it that he's playing piano?
- 19:56He's undercredited.
- 19:57The captain at the bar had his name removed from this movie.
- 20:00He thinks he's Her rear is going places and he doesn't
- 20:04need this bringing him down.
- 20:05Please respect his privacy.
- 20:07His name was Sidney Sweeney.
- 20:10Oh god.
- 20:12All right.
- 20:13Hey, what the hell happens?
- 20:14Um, oh, that's right.
- 20:15He invites the model, like, meet up at the bar or whatever too, and she shows up
- 20:19and I'm like, get the fuck out of here.
- 20:20No, no way.
- 20:21Okay, so they're at the bar and then, like, The, I don't know, the owner
- 20:24of the bar or whatever is like, uh, I want to dedicate this next bit
- 20:28to a huge blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 20:30Basically, I was so scared Shatner was about to do one of his spoken word musical
- 20:34numbers when he was called up to stage.
- 20:36This movie could have been Shatner's version.
- 20:39Of my name is Bruce little tidbits from everything he's ever done.
- 20:42Can you imagine him standing up there doing the anchorman flaming
- 20:46flute and singing rocket man?
- 20:48I mean, Come on, dude, that would have been a space cowboy, but you weren't
- 20:53ready for that, but that doesn't happen.
- 20:55He just kind of goes up and says, Hey, thanks.
- 20:57Great to be here.
- 20:58I love this bar.
- 21:00Woo.
- 21:00And then sits back down.
- 21:01I'm like, boo, we want rocket man.
- 21:08It reminded me of I'm Commander Shepard and this is my
- 21:10favorite store on the Citadel.
- 21:14I know exactly what you're talking about.
- 21:17Oh, that's some video game nerd right there.
- 21:19It's deep.
- 21:20Yeah.
- 21:20So we cut tonight again.
- 21:22He's driving home.
- 21:23Oh, look, it's the guy in the Impala again.
- 21:25I don't know.
- 21:25Calls him a dipshit.
- 21:26And I'm like, well, that's uncalled for.
- 21:28I laughed at that because William Shatner saying that word.
- 21:32I don't know.
- 21:32is funny.
- 21:33Think about it.
- 21:34Dipshit.
- 21:34Dipshit.
- 21:35It's like they would make an entire show called dumb shit my dad says
- 21:39or whatever you said earlier.
- 21:40But then I have these fantasies of him being on the Enterprise and turning
- 21:44to bones and calling him a dipshit.
- 21:46Like, how cool would that have been?
- 21:50Things you wish happened back in the day.
- 21:55Star Trek would have been a lot better if you did that.
- 21:59So what do you call a Vulcan driving an Impala?
- 22:04Yeah.
- 22:04So, yeah, they.
- 22:05race.
- 22:06He spins out and damn near takes out like an entire restaurant.
- 22:10That's right.
- 22:11It's the cuckoo cafe or whatever.
- 22:12As soon as they start racing, Steve's like, and they take out a farmer's market.
- 22:17Yeah, right.
- 22:18The farmer's market.
- 22:20Why are there so many kids in the school right now?
- 22:23We have Palm Springs confused with Florida.
- 22:25Yeah, where were all the children?
- 22:27Right?
- 22:27Florida Man's going to be the sequel.
- 22:29The whole spin out when they're racing, the first thing came to my mind.
- 22:34Was the way they painted the Corvair back in the day.
- 22:37Yeah, no, Tanya is 100 percent right.
- 22:38The first question was, how?
- 22:40Again, this car has like 44 horsepower.
- 22:43It also weighs like 300 pounds.
- 22:45When he first makes the turn, you can see the car is stopping.
- 22:48And then all of a sudden they're spinning.
- 22:50I just love the hands off the wheel.
- 22:52Everybody's screaming at everybody.
- 22:53When the hands are off the wheel and stuff, I'm like, well, maybe
- 22:56that district attorney has a point.
- 22:58Right?
- 22:59Yeah, it's like, Jesus take the wheel a little bit?
- 23:01So then we cut to the trial and he's like, Yeah, I'm just gonna represent myself.
- 23:04Everybody loves me around here.
- 23:06I'm gonna call my buddy to the stand and that'll be a good character witness.
- 23:11We got like a five minute scene of him like, recapping how they met square
- 23:14dancing class back in 19 diggity two.
- 23:17With Denny Crane.
- 23:18The whole time I'm like, Denny Crane.
- 23:20Jenny Crane.
- 23:21This was the Boston legal scene.
- 23:23This was the moment for James Spader.
- 23:26Oh, shit.
- 23:26Yes.
- 23:27We're spader to come out as opposing counsel.
- 23:30Yes.
- 23:30Where is James Spader?
- 23:32Oh, Spader was cracking down on Old Fogies.
- 23:35again.
- 23:35This could've been amazing.
- 23:37That would've made a lot more sense.
- 23:38He's too weird for this movie.
- 23:41. Yeah, there've been different.
- 23:42Weird sexual energy, like, oh yeah.
- 23:44Gene Smart's.
- 23:45Definitely Banging.
- 23:46James Spader.
- 23:47Yeah.
- 23:47Oh yeah.
- 23:48Andy Sy Morales.
- 23:49Well, that was confusing too.
- 23:51All right.
- 23:51So he goes to court.
- 23:52We have our Denny Crane moment, a little Boston legal nod there.
- 23:56I was really expecting just amazingness to happen here and let down.
- 24:02Cause then, yeah, they just pulled the video and like, is that you driving that
- 24:04car with your hands in the back seat?
- 24:07And like, uh, the judge wants him to decide to take his license.
- 24:11But the thing about for me is the fact they impound his car and
- 24:14won't let him get his car back just because he doesn't have his license.
- 24:16I've never heard of that anywhere before.
- 24:19It didn't seem like any of his friends had their license either.
- 24:21So nobody could drive it.
- 24:22The only guy that had a license in this was the dude on that mobility.
- 24:26Well, it says that's why he was on the mobility scooter.
- 24:29We'll get back to that too.
- 24:31Cadillac.
- 24:32Remember?
- 24:32Yeah.
- 24:33Yeah.
- 24:33Yeah.
- 24:33They revoke his license and apparently repo his car, which seems unnecessary.
- 24:38It's a little extreme, but they're like, Hey, you can retest in
- 24:4130 days or something, if you.
- 24:45But I don't think they can hold his property unless he like killed someone.
- 24:50Right.
- 24:51So who's the resident lawyer on the call?
- 24:52I've only played one on tv.
- 24:54Dan, you know the laws , . Not in California, apparently.
- 24:58. So this courtroom scene is also where Christopher Lloyd gets
- 25:01a big chunk of acting time.
- 25:03Let's just say we learn his real.
- 25:05Giuseppe Salvatore Spinelli and all that but to your point from before
- 25:09where you said he reminded you of Charlie from Charlie and the Chocolate
- 25:12Factory's uncle This is where I went.
- 25:16Oh my god, Christopher Lloyd is reprising his role from taxi He was almost exactly
- 25:21the same character and I was expecting him to do like the whole bit Like have
- 25:25you ever seen the old taxi episode where they're taking the driving test?
- 25:28Especially because this movie has a driving test in it What
- 25:31does the yellow light mean?
- 25:32Slow down.
- 25:33What does right.
- 25:35You know, that whole bit that they didn't taxi.
- 25:37So like, that's who I saw when I looked at, I was like, Oh my God, it's
- 25:40like the self fulfilling prophecy.
- 25:43Nope.
- 25:44Just Shannon.
- 25:45Oh, but we're also introduced rock Kendall Brock.
- 25:48Oh, was it B rock?
- 25:49It's rock.
- 25:50B rock.
- 25:51I thought it was just rock.
- 25:51And I'm like, that's just wrong.
- 25:53According to IMDB, it's R O C K.
- 25:56There's no B.
- 25:57Oh, all right then.
- 25:58Brock the rock.
- 25:59That's even worse.
- 26:00But he like offers his car like, Hey, I came to help you get your
- 26:03license back, blah, blah, blah.
- 26:05But there's a great line here because B rock Kendall is telling him
- 26:09about how he's got this whole plan.
- 26:10I can get you your car back and you'll pass the test in 30 days and
- 26:13I can train you and this and that.
- 26:14And Shatner says, I wrote this down cause I thought it was one of the best quotes.
- 26:17Cheap suit, white sneakers.
- 26:19Who dresses like that?
- 26:20I don't trust him as far as I can spit.
- 26:22All right.
- 26:23That's funny.
- 26:23I'm good with that.
- 26:24You know, a little bit of humor there.
- 26:26Thing was how he handed Shatner his business card.
- 26:28It's like he was transitioning drugs over to it.
- 26:30Oh my God.
- 26:31I thought it was better called Saul.
- 26:33Yeah.
- 26:33Yeah.
- 26:34The little weird handshake.
- 26:35Keep it down.
- 26:35Keep it down.
- 26:36I can't see that have the DAC in this, you know, he has to like start taking
- 26:39taxis, but of course taxis are 40 bucks.
- 26:42Now we're taking taxis home.
- 26:43We do see the mobility scooter guy.
- 26:45Which then I asked the question to my wife, I said, Is there
- 26:48a point in your life that you let your eyebrows get that big?
- 26:51Like, I don't understand!
- 26:53Everybody else is like, well coiffed and well groomed for as old as And
- 26:57this guy was like, tarantula eyebrows.
- 26:59Maybe it was the breeze of the open road in a drop top car, and
- 27:03now that he no longer has it, doesn't maintain his brow length.
- 27:06They were majestic, but also scary at the same time.
- 27:10You know it's a really good movie, folks, when you're Fixating on people's eyebrows.
- 27:16All right, so we cut to a bar.
- 27:18Here we go.
- 27:19And Shatner's with this model chick.
- 27:21Never got her name.
- 27:22Sorry, I always have her as model in there.
- 27:24Basically, I said, why do you chase younger girls?
- 27:26And I'm like, is that a real question?
- 27:29Oh, because they're so beautiful.
- 27:31And I'm like, you're almost be her great grandfather, sir.
- 27:34You don't know.
- 27:36You gotta, you gotta stretch it out.
- 27:39I wanna know why she's chasing older men.
- 27:42Not older men, like geriatric men.
- 27:45Turn that question around.
- 27:46Not chasing, just leading him on.
- 27:48Well, I don't know, he had his little blue pill.
- 27:49He was ready.
- 27:50You know, I remember Anna Nicole Smith did this in the 90s.
- 27:53Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 27:55Yeah, say, he is pretty loaded.
- 27:56How did that work out for her?
- 27:58I 100 percent thought she was gonna bring him to, uh, like a pig party.
- 28:01And this is what made me think.
- 28:03Yeah.
- 28:03Yeah.
- 28:03That Shatner was like loaded in this movie, which we sort of kind
- 28:07of find out later that he's not.
- 28:09Hey, let's make pretend.
- 28:10He's not hurting.
- 28:11Right.
- 28:12Yeah.
- 28:12He's definitely.
- 28:14He's getting Star Trek residuals.
- 28:15He's making it appear that he's a lot more loaded than he is.
- 28:19Like he's not in like deep debt, but he's not dropping 10
- 28:23grand on a tortoise picture.
- 28:24Yes, that was, that was awesome.
- 28:26Well, that's just because he's frugal.
- 28:28Yeah, he's wise.
- 28:29But I think it might be the allegory of the license plate.
- 28:32It's that victory, right?
- 28:33Victory!
- 28:34Making himself look bigger than he is.
- 28:36Wait a minute, who wrote this movie?
- 28:38Eric, what the hell?
- 28:40Ha ha ha ha!
- 28:42It's an allegory!
- 28:43Listen to me!
- 28:44I know what I'm talking about!
- 28:46When I was in school, so then, basically she's like, hey, you
- 28:49wanna come to a pool party with me?
- 28:51And of course Shatner's like, M90, let's do this.
- 28:53The weirdest thing about this scene was when they show up and they see,
- 28:57like, the two girls kissing and Shatner's just, like, touching them.
- 29:00I don't know if he was trying to separate, like, a couple of dogs that
- 29:03shouldn't be mingling or what, but he was like, don't, don't touch them.
- 29:06He seemed all mesmerized like he'd never seen it before.
- 29:08It was so awkward.
- 29:10It was so cringey.
- 29:11I love how nobody batted an eye that Their great great great
- 29:15grandfather was there at the party.
- 29:18To be fair, it was a pool party in Palm Springs.
- 29:21You all bring this up like it's something I should know.
- 29:23I don't know anything about Palm Springs.
- 29:25Palm Springs is where old people go when they're old.
- 29:28Go to die?
- 29:29To be anywhere else.
- 29:30It's the West Coast, Florida.
- 29:32Here's the thing with Deceit.
- 29:34To Brad's point, he's the only octogenarian.
- 29:37At the pool party, I expected to see the Estevezes, Christopher
- 29:42Lloyd, Robert Duvall.
- 29:43I mean, you got to bring them all out for this pool party because
- 29:45it's your point, it's Palm Springs, but then it turns into Cocoon.
- 29:49Remember the pool scene in Cocoon?
- 29:53That'd be an interesting twist.
- 29:54I'm not going to lie, but instead it cuts to the next morning and
- 29:58he's taking his driving test.
- 30:00He kills absolutely everything on the track.
- 30:04Yeah, murder.
- 30:06What happened with him and the model?
- 30:07This is a whole part of the plot that nobody knows.
- 30:10Oh, I'm sorry.
- 30:11They dove into the pool and then time jumped.
- 30:14Yes.
- 30:14No, I know.
- 30:15Yada, yada, yada.
- 30:17And then he never called her again.
- 30:18Do we see her again?
- 30:19No.
- 30:20No, because he never called her again.
- 30:22She went back to her home planet.
- 30:23What a jackass.
- 30:25Oh my God, the driving test.
- 30:27That was a good scene.
- 30:28I laughed at that.
- 30:29I love that part where when he hits the first thing and he's driving that Camry,
- 30:33which is beat to hell and back, he's like car handles like a goddamn tank.
- 30:37And then he hits the next thing.
- 30:39Oh, son was in my eyes and shit like that.
- 30:41And I'm like, you know what?
- 30:42You're convincing me.
- 30:43Maybe you don't need your license.
- 30:44I love the part where he's like, do you think I killed him?
- 30:48The woman?
- 30:48I don't know.
- 30:49Definitely the little kid.
- 30:53It was so good.
- 30:53That scene was so good.
- 30:55That was well done.
- 30:56And then here's the best part about it.
- 30:57You expect after he like runs over everything and then it shows
- 31:01them like getting up, getting out of the car or whatever.
- 31:02And you expect like the instructor or whatever would be like,
- 31:05I'm sorry, you don't pass.
- 31:06You'll have to come back and blah, blah, blah.
- 31:08There's no scene of that.
- 31:09It's basically just the driving test, him sucking at it.
- 31:11And then it's him walking to the grocery store or whatever.
- 31:14And I'm like, So, I'm assuming he didn't fail.
- 31:17No!
- 31:18He went up to the counter, and the guy handed him the piece
- 31:21of paper, and then he was sad.
- 31:23Because he failed the written test and the driving test.
- 31:25That's right, that's right.
- 31:26There was this scene where, uh, they were like, Oh, little Joey!
- 31:31That's right, okay.
- 31:32Uh, you got the best score of the day!
- 31:34Yeah, the only perfect score!
- 31:35Okay, they hand it to him.
- 31:37His regular face, I guess, looked like sad face, because he
- 31:39was just staring at the paper.
- 31:41And then it cuts to him walking into the grocery store, and I'm like,
- 31:43So did he fail the written too?
- 31:45Like, does he really not know how to drive?
- 31:47The rules were different 70 years ago when he learned.
- 31:51That's true.
- 31:51They had buggy whips too.
- 31:53Back in the time before 8 Tracks.
- 31:55In the before full time.
- 31:57Uh, yeah, so he goes to the grocery store, puts his head in the freezer,
- 32:00and, like, gets caught doing it.
- 32:02Like, What are you doing?
- 32:03Like, uh, just grabbing a beer.
- 32:04I'm like, not in that ice cream thing, you're not.
- 32:06Well, wasn't that our first glimpse of Jean Smart?
- 32:09Okay, that was her?
- 32:10Okay, okay.
- 32:11No.
- 32:12That wasn't the first.
- 32:13Not our first glimpse because we saw her go into her cafe.
- 32:17Yeah, painting or whatever.
- 32:18And she went there when he went spinning out of control.
- 32:20That was his first glimpse.
- 32:22Well, even before then, they did a little side segment, but when he was on his
- 32:27way to get the photography done with the Porsche, she's there with her friend
- 32:31that's the artist doing the painting.
- 32:32That was the first time you see her, I believe.
- 32:34And when they originally said, your license is revoked,
- 32:37What am I supposed to do?
- 32:39And he said, they said, take the bus.
- 32:40He's like, I don't take the bus.
- 32:42We got a little glimpse of her on the bus.
- 32:44And she was also at the scene of the crime chronologically.
- 32:47That is all correct.
- 32:48What I meant by glimpses, Shatner gets his first glimpse of her.
- 32:51That's the first time they're together.
- 32:52Interaction.
- 32:53Yes.
- 32:54I'll buy that.
- 32:54Good recovery.
- 32:57Linetto.
- 32:57He sees someone like driving his car when he's walking back home.
- 33:00It's like, wait, what the hell?
- 33:01So then he like hops on the bus, sits down next to Jean Smart and yeah, his
- 33:06bag tears and she's like, Oh, it's okay.
- 33:08I got one of the cloth ones here.
- 33:09I always bring extras.
- 33:11But then she starts judging his honey buns.
- 33:13I don't care what you say.
- 33:14Honey buns are great.
- 33:14Honey buns are literally like prison money.
- 33:17They're fantastic.
- 33:18Wait, what?
- 33:19No, they trade them in prison.
- 33:20Like, personally, like, Honey Buns are worth more than cigarettes.
- 33:23I thought you were saying prison money was fantastic.
- 33:25That's what I thought you were saying.
- 33:26She speaks like an authority.
- 33:28No, Honey Buns are so fantastic.
- 33:31Honey Buns and cigarettes.
- 33:32I feel like we need to unpack this.
- 33:34Also, I think Honey Buns is also prison code.
- 33:37Hey, Honey Buns.
- 33:38That's my nickname.
- 33:39What's delightful about this particular scene is that the writers felt that Jean
- 33:44Smart What she needed to do was just read the ingredients off the little Debbie box.
- 33:49It's like, wow, that's some writing right there.
- 33:52I mean, that is like Oscar award winning potassium Benzoate.
- 33:57Hmm.
- 33:58That still sounds delicious.
- 33:59Jean smart is so much better than this movie.
- 34:03Jean is not the problem with this movie.
- 34:05100%.
- 34:06She is not the problem with this movie.
- 34:08Uh, Her character may have, uh.
- 34:11She as an actress is not the problem.
- 34:12No, no, no, not at all.
- 34:13Her, she is not responsible for the writing.
- 34:16She did the best with what she was given.
- 34:18Little Debbie was responsible for the writing.
- 34:22Her rating of it, I took that as a fact, because earlier when it shows
- 34:25her in her little cafe or whatever, it seems like she does a lot of natural
- 34:28ingredients, and that's why when the one customer asked for something and
- 34:31her daughter was saying, She was like, well, all out of the ingredients.
- 34:34She's like, so we can't make them, but that's how I took that.
- 34:36And that's why she was kind of judging it.
- 34:38She's a baker.
- 34:39She's judging pre packaged baked goods.
- 34:43And here's a bit of real life irony.
- 34:45A little bit of trivia, just mildly amusing.
- 34:47She's.
- 34:48In charge of the cuckoo cafe.
- 34:50She's a baker, you know, she's making fun of the honey buns.
- 34:52Come try mine.
- 34:53Blah, blah, blah.
- 34:54You know, I'm starting to salivate after she's reading about, you know,
- 34:56monosodium glutamate and all this other stuff that's in these things in real
- 35:00life, Jean smart as a diabetic lifelong.
- 35:03Like, so I thought it was sort of ironic that she's playing
- 35:06this character called acting.
- 35:09Yes.
- 35:10It's an allegory anyway, a little bit of trivia there.
- 35:13So yeah.
- 35:13So Chattner drinks a bit.
- 35:15And then he has this nightmare of, like, him and his buddies riding
- 35:20scooters and just wrecking the DMV, and I'm like, yeah, we've all been there.
- 35:24That's my favorite part of the whole movie.
- 35:26Yeah, exactly.
- 35:27They were, like, a roaming scooter gang or whatever, and doing
- 35:31crimes at government agencies.
- 35:33I thought it was bumper.
- 35:34Bumper cars are rascals.
- 35:36Yeah, I didn't realize it was in the DMV, because I thought it was like
- 35:39in an old folks home or something.
- 35:40Wait, you didn't realize it was the DMV?
- 35:42I didn't realize that.
- 35:44Oh my gosh, that's why it was funny.
- 35:47You didn't notice that?
- 35:48No.
- 35:49Part of the whole movie.
- 35:50You just thought it was a bunch of chairs in a whitewalled facility.
- 35:55It was the wood paneling that reminded me of the auxiliary
- 35:57trailers we had in our high school.
- 35:59Like it was just bringing back flashbacks.
- 36:01Just you didn't notice they only accepted checks, money, orders,
- 36:05money, grim, goddamn DMV, DMV, the post office, whatever, all the
- 36:09seating there at the post office.
- 36:12I love the post office tie in.
- 36:14This is the point when my wife turns to me and says, Is there a plot to this movie?
- 36:18No.
- 36:19I thought she would have said, Can we turn this off?
- 36:21We're maybe like 20 minutes into the movie at this point.
- 36:23Yeah, we're like a third of the way through the movie.
- 36:25Here's what kills me.
- 36:27Everything is presented as little vignettes, right?
- 36:30It's just sort of stitched together.
- 36:31It doesn't have a flow or a rhythm.
- 36:33And that's where I think she was like, What's the plot here?
- 36:35Because it's the little dream sequence.
- 36:37It's the scooter sequence.
- 36:38They're on the And then I know movies are cut up like that.
- 36:41Yeah.
- 36:41But this one was exceptionally short and there was no tie back.
- 36:45Everything felt a little rushed.
- 36:46Even the court scene was like, and move on.
- 36:49Eric, I feel like you're asking for like a Lord of the Rings four and
- 36:54a half hour director's cut to tie all these different plots together.
- 36:58Maybe he needs to search for the director's cut of this movie.
- 37:01No, I think the second opinion, but if he and McKellen was working at the DMV, it
- 37:06was like, that would have been amazing.
- 37:09Where's Patrick Stewart?
- 37:10Oh, I don't think him and Shannar talked to each other.
- 37:12They're like David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar.
- 37:15Yeah.
- 37:15Ever since that generations movie.
- 37:17No more.
- 37:17They don't talk like we're done now.
- 37:20I'll bring in Malcolm McDowell instead.
- 37:22Where's Chris Pine?
- 37:23So from here, he meets up with, uh, Rock Kendall and he's, uh, you know,
- 37:26Rock's like, yeah, for 799, I'll train you so you can pass your test.
- 37:31And I'm like, this is going to be great.
- 37:33Was he a lawyer?
- 37:34Was he like a better call Saul?
- 37:36Or was just, he just like a bluebird driving instructor?
- 37:39Yes.
- 37:39I think he's both.
- 37:41I think he's an ambulance chasing.
- 37:44I can help you guys get your medical waivers and all that.
- 37:46Like he says.
- 37:47But I don't have any conditions.
- 37:48Like how old are you?
- 37:4972.
- 37:50Yeah.
- 37:50That's a medical condition.
- 37:51Dude.
- 37:51That was such a great line.
- 37:53That was so awesome.
- 37:54Yeah.
- 37:54He knows all the loopholes and stuff.
- 37:56He is one of those.
- 37:57Have you suffered from mesothelioma lawyers?
- 38:00Right.
- 38:00100%.
- 38:02100 percent consistent through the whole movie.
- 38:06It never says a single word.
- 38:07It was like a pen and teller thing, right?
- 38:09If they say a word, you got to pay them.
- 38:10Did you notice that B rock?
- 38:12Sort of look like Penn Jillette too, like his whole get up.
- 38:15I was just like, Oh, okay.
- 38:16And then was sort of trying to be an inspirational,
- 38:19motivational kind of speaker.
- 38:21And he's like, it's not just a license to drive.
- 38:24It's a license to live.
- 38:25Yeah.
- 38:26That's exactly how you see somebody like that.
- 38:29Try to act but then it's like them like tossing darts at the cutout the
- 38:34district of turning and playing video games and shit Did we skip the part where
- 38:37the part of the driving construction?
- 38:40Was forza Yeah, yeah the video games yeah, but it was specifically long beach Yes,
- 38:47it was the long beach track in the 356.
- 38:50It was so great.
- 38:51That was amazing That's when I knew brad was really paying attention
- 38:54to the film because I get a text.
- 38:55He's like, oh my god They're playing forza I'm going to teach
- 38:59my grandmother to drive on Forza.
- 39:01Correcting all my notes from GT to Forza.
- 39:04Okay.
- 39:05I liked when he was in Brock's office and his way to test Shatner's reflexes
- 39:09was throwing the tennis ball at him.
- 39:10Oh my god.
- 39:10Oh, he's If you could dodge a wrench, you could dodge a ball.
- 39:17And the basketball scene could have been completely deleted from the movie.
- 39:20Like it had no point whatsoever.
- 39:22The whole movie could have been deleted from the movie.
- 39:25They just wanted to prove the old people are still kicking it.
- 39:27God, the magic of watching it on Tubi would have been amazing because
- 39:30that's the moment they could have broken for commercial and done
- 39:33that T Mobile Charles Barkley.
- 39:35I knew he was going to pick me on the little kids basketball team.
- 39:40I would have loved to watch it on one of those paid advertisement services.
- 39:45And then every commercial was a Priceline commercial with Shatner in it.
- 39:50No, no, every commercial is the Dauntless soap and hymns and, which does kind
- 39:57of tie with this movie a little bit.
- 39:59I just watched those.
- 40:02I've only seen that 10, 000 times now.
- 40:04Target marketing, people.
- 40:06Target marketing.
- 40:06This is also where he plays the memory game for the first time as well, right?
- 40:11Yeah, poolside with ladies in bikinis walking by like,
- 40:14No, you can't be distracted.
- 40:16You gotta focus and blah, blah, blah.
- 40:18And I'm like, Is that what the goal is here?
- 40:20Okay.
- 40:20All right, and then I started like working on my head like okay, he's paying 7.
- 40:2399 for this.
- 40:25I'm wondering how much uh, Rock is paying those girls as for like 30 days.
- 40:31He's losing money.
- 40:32Was it 799 or 7.
- 40:3399 because I think both prices are overpriced.
- 40:41After the first set of training montage or whatever, I guess Shatner decides
- 40:45he's gonna go to this cuckoo cafe that he's never been to before apparently.
- 40:49And, uh, that's where he runs into the owner, uh, The Cuckoo Clock Cafe, guys.
- 40:53It's not just the Cuckoo Cafe.
- 40:55Whatever, the Cuckoo Clock Cocopelli Cafe, whatever it is.
- 40:59He runs into Gene Smart again, like, Oh, hey, nice seeing
- 41:02you here, blah, blah, blah.
- 41:03Yeah, you wanna try one of the strudels?
- 41:04Yeah, sure, that'd be great.
- 41:06Oh, you're gonna have an art auction here.
- 41:07That's cool.
- 41:08What about that cuckoo clock?
- 41:10And then staring at it for a bit.
- 41:12And then we get some more of the montage.
- 41:14And we go back, and he's looking at this cuckoo clock like it's
- 41:17a goddamn magic eye picture.
- 41:19Like, I don't know what he's doing.
- 41:21When we go back to it, like, the chairs are up on the table,
- 41:24it's like, shit's closed.
- 41:27I wanna see the sailboat!
- 41:28But then he keeps going like, I'm just trying to figure out how to
- 41:30fix it, but you gotta tell me the story about this cuckoo clock.
- 41:33And she's like, alright, sit down everybody, we're gonna get a really
- 41:37important story about this cuckoo clock.
- 41:39It starts with a spell.
- 41:42And there was this great Giuseppe Spinelli.
- 41:44I don't know why that name's in my head.
- 41:46They say he was 123 years old.
- 41:49And he built this in the year 1898.
- 41:51I'm like, so that guy was around in the 17th century.
- 41:53Nice.
- 41:54And it took him 11 years to make it and I'm just like, no it didn't.
- 41:58He was 142.
- 41:59But he hung it on a picture next to his wife and then he died.
- 42:03So his soul haunts it to this very day.
- 42:07No, but that's not where she goes with the story.
- 42:09It's supposed to be romantic or something.
- 42:11The weird thing is the first time he went in previously and he asked about it,
- 42:14she's like, there's a story behind it.
- 42:16She made it seem like it was going to be this long story.
- 42:18But then when he came back for this visit, the story was like, Yeah, they
- 42:21didn't even finish their glasses of wine.
- 42:23William Shatner didn't even sip his wine.
- 42:25It was so short.
- 42:26Yeah.
- 42:27Shatner, like, at the end of the story, he's like, So,
- 42:30where does the spell work in?
- 42:32Like, wasn't there a spell involved?
- 42:33And I'm like, yeah, she's bullshitting you, dude.
- 42:36Like, she's just making up stupid stories.
- 42:38Like, next she's gonna be like, There were seven rings that were forged.
- 42:41Some were given to men and some to elves.
- 42:45These aren't anyway.
- 42:46One cuckoo clock to rule them all.
- 42:48No, it's even better.
- 42:48Her response is, I don't know exactly.
- 42:51And I'm like, oh, goddamn old people telling stories.
- 42:54I put a diamond on my belt, which was the fashion at the time.
- 43:00Did I ever tell you the story about the cuckoo clock?
- 43:03Cuckoo clock of doom.
- 43:04Oh, wait.
- 43:04Sorry.
- 43:05That's different.
- 43:06Sit around, kids.
- 43:07Let me tell you a story.
- 43:10Stop talking about the Dial of Destiny.
- 43:12Like, that's a whole different movie.
- 43:14Is it though?
- 43:16Alright, so he's on the bus the next day and he sees someone driving his car again.
- 43:20And he gets off the bus to chase it on foot, and I'm like, Bill, come on.
- 43:24That's faster.
- 43:25Come on, buddy.
- 43:25But luckily, good old Johnny on the spot, we find out his name is Torres,
- 43:28but the guy in the Impala or whatever, he's like, Hey, what are you doing here?
- 43:32You know, like, I'm like, Oh, follow that car.
- 43:34Okay.
- 43:35And they go to the junkyard, the, or Impound.
- 43:38It's a junkyard, but it's supposed to be, I guess, the That's the holding
- 43:42facility for the police department?
- 43:45Is that what we're Yeah, no, this is somebody's backyard.
- 43:47Yeah.
- 43:48100%.
- 43:48It did not seem very secure.
- 43:50I wonder how the police department would like to know that meth
- 43:53is being produced on their lot.
- 43:55So yeah, he gets caught like snooping around.
- 43:58And then he calls the guy a fucker.
- 43:59And I'm like, again, You're the one trespassing, dude.
- 44:02Whatever.
- 44:03So then him and his buddy, uh, Spinelli, they go to fix that cuckoo clock.
- 44:07And we get a montage of them awkwardly moving pieces and pulling
- 44:12on chains and obviously having no idea what the hell they're doing and
- 44:15never putting two pieces together.
- 44:18And I'm just like, Run time, run time, run time, gotta make it 88 minutes, you know?
- 44:23Meanwhile, back at the ranch.
- 44:25Wouldn't you know it, they somehow put it together.
- 44:27So they fix the clock, everybody hugs when it starts working, whatever.
- 44:31And then we get Gene Smart and the girl Sonya they work with are
- 44:34like, But what about the spell?
- 44:36Oh, you mean the one about my one true love when it strikes?
- 44:40No, don't say it!
- 44:41Ahhhh!
- 44:42Oh my God, this was turning into like the Witches of Eastwick and stuff.
- 44:45I was like, what are we doing?
- 44:46Practical magic.
- 44:47We get it.
- 44:48He put the lime in the coconut.
- 44:50This is I think when we go back to the bar because then he's like asking
- 44:53Spinelli like how long were you married?
- 44:55Oh 42 years of marriage marty again.
- 44:58My name's not marty.
- 44:58It's victor
- 45:02Anybody seen my delorean if he would have been driving a delorean this
- 45:05movie would have been five stars.
- 45:07Oh my god God, that would have been amazing.
- 45:09Yeah, sure.
- 45:10I can drive you around Or we're going we don't need licenses Got a Mr.
- 45:16Fusion in the back, like, No, no, it's just, we're making martinis.
- 45:20Making margaritas.
- 45:21But then they're like, Okay, yeah, let's go to this art auction thing.
- 45:24You know, we see that, I guess, Jean Smart, She used to be a Nat
- 45:27Geo photographer, And she took a bunch of pictures of tortoises,
- 45:31Because tortoises are super cool.
- 45:33Definitely not turtles.
- 45:34Oh God, I just thought of the song.
- 45:36But yeah, they're, like, doing an auction.
- 45:38But first we cut to them smoking a blunt out back as is tradition, right?
- 45:42And then she's like, oh, yeah, I grow my own.
- 45:44What do you think makes the strudel so good?
- 45:46And i'm like no Yeah, that's why there's seven dollars a strudel or
- 45:50whatever the sign says here in a minute.
- 45:52That's just inflation brutal economics We also get this gem of a story About
- 45:58being in love and first love and true love and all this kind of stuff.
- 46:02And she tells about her escapades as a photographer, Tunisia and stuff.
- 46:06There was this guy in Morocco eggplant.
- 46:10And then he's going off about this story about third grade.
- 46:14And I'm like, wow, that was like one room schoolhouse kind of stuff.
- 46:18Right.
- 46:18But the punchline was delivered.
- 46:21So well to the story when I think that was the best moment between Gene Smart
- 46:26and William Shatner when she's like, so how did that all turn out for you?
- 46:29And he goes, she reported me to the principal.
- 46:32I was like, I laughed at that.
- 46:33I thought it was cute.
- 46:34And we forgot about the auction.
- 46:36Of course.
- 46:37So there was a bidding war over her tortoise photograph, by the
- 46:40way, in a frame, basically bidding went up to 10, 000 and who got it?
- 46:44Isai Morales.
- 46:46Bill Adama.
- 46:46And then my whole like knowing where this movie was going to go.
- 46:50I'm like, why?
- 46:51Just give 10, 000 when they were on the roof sharing their
- 46:55blunt and telling stories.
- 46:57And then he told the love story of his car.
- 46:59I love how the only picture of his car he had is the one with
- 47:03the model that he shows to this woman that he's trying to show.
- 47:07And it's like zoomed in and all you see, 90 percent of the
- 47:11image is this half naked girl.
- 47:13And he's like, yeah, it's my true love.
- 47:15What the fuck are you showing here, you dumbass?
- 47:18He's trying to show me that game.
- 47:20Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 47:21Have you played Forza?
- 47:22Here, here, you can use my profile.
- 47:24Yeah, he's got the wrong kind of game, Dan.
- 47:27Then they put two and two together and, oh my god, you're the dipshit.
- 47:31That was doing donuts outside.
- 47:33You almost killed all these people.
- 47:34And I thought like that was going to end their relationship, right?
- 47:37And then he, he was going to have to spend the whole movie,
- 47:39the whole rest of this shit.
- 47:41Yeah.
- 47:41Trying to get her back.
- 47:42And instead they just kind of glossed over it.
- 47:44And then it made sense because they're high.
- 47:47They didn't even remember the story.
- 47:50It doesn't matter.
- 47:52You almost killed all these people, man.
- 47:55I was waiting three days later, like, Wait, you're the guy
- 47:58who was driving that thing.
- 47:59Like, I'm tired of my mental condition being called into question.
- 48:03It was either the weed or just because they're old, they forgot.
- 48:07We'll blame the weed.
- 48:08The writers had a senior moment at this point.
- 48:10They didn't know where to go.
- 48:11Yeah, yeah.
- 48:12The whole movie is a senior moment that I'd like to forget.
- 48:15They were smoking on the roof.
- 48:16It was funny because I was expecting to hear, you know, it's
- 48:17good for my glaucoma or some shit.
- 48:19She did say it.
- 48:20She said that.
- 48:22It's good for arthritis I thought she said.
- 48:24Oh arthritis.
- 48:24Yeah.
- 48:24Yeah.
- 48:25Yeah, that's right.
- 48:25Had to be a medical thing, right?
- 48:27Yeah, it was also around this time.
- 48:28The writers were like, well, hey, we want grand touring motorsports
- 48:31breakfix podcast talking about this movie How are we going to do that?
- 48:34So the next morning she shows up at shatner's house because you know, she
- 48:38has his address from Her uber app or whatever, cause she calls an uber for him.
- 48:41And she's like, surprise, we're going on a trip.
- 48:44So they go to a track day, private BMW racetrack or something.
- 48:49Yes.
- 48:50Yes.
- 48:50And see, I didn't know this when they showed up.
- 48:52I was like, you know, he doesn't have a license, right?
- 48:55Oh, you don't need one.
- 48:55It's a private track.
- 48:56I'm like, Well played.
- 48:58All right, so this is where we get to nerd out on cars a little bit.
- 49:01We've been really good about not talking about the Porsche and we'll
- 49:04get back to it, I promise you.
- 49:05Because the Porsche hasn't been seen for the past hour.
- 49:08Exactly.
- 49:09But we get to see a whole bunch of BMWs now.
- 49:11So I have to ask Brad, Tanya, and Dan at this point, of the lineup of cars, going
- 49:16from the i8 on the right, the blue car.
- 49:19All the way back to the i3 that was in the shadows in the back left corner
- 49:24of all the six BMWs that were there.
- 49:26What would you have picked?
- 49:27The A7 they were dropped off in.
- 49:31That is the new BMW, you're right.
- 49:33See, I was disappointed they didn't have some other Porsches sitting there.
- 49:36It's a BMW test track.
- 49:38I looked it up.
- 49:38It's a real place.
- 49:39Yeah, BMW paid for that sponsorship.
- 49:42They're all going to be BMWs.
- 49:43Yeah, I would have taken one of the M3s.
- 49:45I would not have taken the i8.
- 49:47You don't have to choose, you get to drive them all.
- 49:49That's true.
- 49:49I personally would have chosen the satin black with rose gold M4 competition coupe
- 49:56that was sitting there next to the i8.
- 49:58That thing was hot.
- 49:59That was a cool car.
- 50:00That's the car to pick right there.
- 50:02But he chose the bright electric blue i8.
- 50:06That was his first and then he did hop into the others.
- 50:09Well they didn't show any of that so you don't know what he picked.
- 50:11He could have picked that orange M3 that was two cars over and
- 50:14there was a bunch of other stuff.
- 50:15He kind of headed to driving them all.
- 50:17That M4 competition though was pretty hot.
- 50:19But Tanya, what was the biggest problem with the i8?
- 50:22to BMW.
- 50:22Well, I don't think they quite got the exhaust tone correct.
- 50:26And why is that?
- 50:27You know, it was a little bit louder than I was expecting for an electric car.
- 50:33Yeah, yeah.
- 50:37I don't think the i8 is a full electric.
- 50:39I think it's a hybrid.
- 50:40Is it?
- 50:40Pretty sure.
- 50:41Well, it still should have sounded like it was from the Jetsons or
- 50:44something like Oh, you're right.
- 50:46Like in hybrid.
- 50:48But it should have been running on all electric in the
- 50:50beginning because of the plugin.
- 50:51Not when he dropped on it.
- 50:52I8s are cheap too, you can get one for 60 grand.
- 50:55Is that all?
- 50:56Yeah, they don't sell for shit.
- 50:57They were like 300, 000 when they first came out.
- 51:00You can get a used 2017 from CarGurus for 63, 495 for 2, 000 miles,
- 51:07or you can get a brand new, just kidding, there's no brand new one.
- 51:10No, they stopped making it like when they stopped making the NSX.
- 51:13It's been like five years.
- 51:15No, there still is a new one.
- 51:16There's no price on it.
- 51:17That expensive, they don't list the price.
- 51:18If you have to ask, it just says market value, like it's a
- 51:21goddamn lobster or something.
- 51:23More than you can afford, pal.
- 51:24I Anyway, for the speed that they were going in this thing, it should
- 51:28have been like whisper quiet.
- 51:30Yes.
- 51:30I took issue.
- 51:31They should not have reached the gas motor mode.
- 51:34Exactly.
- 51:35So it should have sounded like a golf cart up until that point, but
- 51:38whatever, you know, Hey, good for him.
- 51:40So is this because of B rocks training and Forza and everything else that he
- 51:44can now drive on the BMW test track?
- 51:46Cause we saw what happened when he was behind the wheel of the Camry.
- 51:49Yeah.
- 51:49I guess when he's.
- 51:50Focused and not trying.
- 51:51I was kind of expecting the guy in the Impala to like pull up alongside him.
- 51:55I'm like, hey fancy meet you here He wants to drive this car.
- 52:00Yeah, he doesn't want to drive the shitty Camry He doesn't want to
- 52:03drive with somebody else in the car.
- 52:04He wants this car and he wants to impress this girl.
- 52:07He's motivated by love The issue with the Camry too was remember
- 52:14because they overlaid The old test track and the new improved test
- 52:20track at the DMV with all the cones.
- 52:23That's right.
- 52:23That were a lot closer together.
- 52:24It's rigged.
- 52:25The system is rigged.
- 52:26That's right.
- 52:27I forgot about that.
- 52:28There was a lot more room on that BMW test track.
- 52:30The DA was not in control of the BMW test facility.
- 52:34Not a turn signal was to be seen, though.
- 52:36How ageist.
- 52:37BMWs don't come with them.
- 52:38No, it's true.
- 52:39Weight savings.
- 52:40Meanwhile, back at the cuckoo clock.
- 52:43Oh, yeah.
- 52:43So at the end, though, after the vroom, vrooms, they go, Wee!
- 52:46And then they kiss.
- 52:48Awesome.
- 52:48They go vroom, vroom.
- 52:49And then they go, Exactly.
- 52:52We got to compare this.
- 52:53To Jeff Bridges.
- 52:55So, we did kind of mention that for this next scene, yes.
- 52:59So now it's night time.
- 53:00We're down in Ancient Ruins this time.
- 53:02We're back at the Cuckoo Clock Cafe.
- 53:04And Jean Smart's like, Hey Bill, I got something to show you in the cafe.
- 53:10No, they go in and she's got What?
- 53:13Another copy of her photograph framed?
- 53:16And he doesn't even have to drop 10 grand for this one?
- 53:18That's cool, I guess.
- 53:20Anyway, so then he pops a pill and they fuck.
- 53:23We get to see her cute little apartment, which is Is just
- 53:28the guest room of the cafe?
- 53:29Yeah.
- 53:30I feel like we glossed over a very important piece of information
- 53:34about the Cuckoo Clock Cafe.
- 53:37And we, we got to rewind to when they were working on it.
- 53:39They actually got it to work.
- 53:41I don't think we've mentioned that.
- 53:43Welcome to three minutes ago, Brad.
- 53:45No, I don't think we've mentioned it.
- 53:47They did, because that's when, you know, the spell was broken and the
- 53:50whole, we already covered that.
- 53:51It's all good.
- 53:55Steve did a very good job of just summarizing that, but glossed over
- 53:59the part that not only did he pop the Viagra, what did he do, Dan?
- 54:02In regards to, uh, when he's like, I think he made a comment, like,
- 54:05if my call lasts for more than, like, four hours, call my doctors.
- 54:08Yeah, because he's choking on the damn thing, right?
- 54:11Yeah, I know.
- 54:12That was when I'm like, oh no, this is when the ambulance gets called,
- 54:15and he has a heart condition, too.
- 54:17This love story takes a sad turn.
- 54:20This, though, might be the most realistic romance scene I've
- 54:23seen in a movie in a while.
- 54:26It's between this and The Simpsons in Shalalala.
- 54:31This is real life.
- 54:32Compared to Against All Odds, I wasn't totally grossed out.
- 54:36I wasn't like, oh my god, this needs to stop.
- 54:38This is bleh.
- 54:39Like, they were believable at least.
- 54:41Like, Jeff Bridges and that other chick.
- 54:43I don't know.
- 54:44Whatever.
- 54:44Hanging on the ruins.
- 54:45And then Isai Morales jumps in with a gun and is like, I'm
- 54:48taking you back to James Woods.
- 54:51But you know, it would have been really funny.
- 54:53Okay.
- 54:53This is where I thought it would have been comedic gold.
- 54:56William Shatner pops the pill.
- 54:58He's choking on it.
- 54:58He says, call a doctor four hours, that kind of thing as Dan pointed out.
- 55:02But you know, when they're actually getting it on, he could have
- 55:05been like, beat me up, Scotty.
- 55:08Wow.
- 55:12Eric, how long have you been directing thorns?
- 55:15I thought he would have said victory!
- 55:18Text track three, The Wrath of Ra.
- 55:22Deadly Crane.
- 55:23And Christopher Lloyd was in it too.
- 55:25So then we cut to the next morning.
- 55:28And of course, the pill's still working, so he's like, Hey, maybe one more round?
- 55:31Open the cafe a little later?
- 55:33And then that random guy is like, really pissed because the cafe's closed.
- 55:37Oh, we've all been there.
- 55:38He's gotta get his marijuana strudel.
- 55:40Gotta get my donuts for the weekend.
- 55:41This place isn't open on time.
- 55:42Nobody wants to work anymore.
- 55:45Booper.
- 55:45But then she's like, hey, so I kind of need some more
- 55:50publicity for the tortoises.
- 55:52And I'm like, I was so bad.
- 55:54I'm like, girl, what?
- 55:56I'm like, two things.
- 55:57One, he does have the post net clarity.
- 55:59So I mean, maybe he is willing to like help out.
- 56:02And I'm like, but two, it's like, didn't you just get 10 grand unexpectedly
- 56:06from Esai Morales the other night?
- 56:08No, they need more money.
- 56:09There was other stuff for sale too, but that's the only thing they showed.
- 56:12She's gotta sell that cuckoo clock.
- 56:13I thought that was gonna be a thing.
- 56:15Again, this is where I draw the parallels to Against All Odds.
- 56:18She used Jeff Bridges in the same way that she's using William Shatner right now.
- 56:22I was like, okay, I can see where this is going.
- 56:24And that's when the ex husband James Woods shows up and is like, I found you.
- 56:29I finally found you.
- 56:30You're coming back with me, baby.
- 56:31No, but uh, you know, he's uh, doing the game of concentration
- 56:35poolside at the girls in bikinis and stuff, but he's able to focus.
- 56:39He's doing better now.
- 56:40Either that or he has no peripheral vision anymore and he's going blind because
- 56:45coughing and had an erection for more than four hours and it's all getting dark.
- 56:48Later in the day, he sees her and uh, Isai Morales hanging out and so he's like, Huh.
- 56:53What the hell's going on here?
- 56:55This is when he returns to the grocery store, right?
- 56:57Yes, that's right.
- 56:57The grocery store.
- 56:58That's right.
- 56:58That's where At which point my wife asks, this is what she got out of this
- 57:02scene, all the rest of it included.
- 57:04She goes, who organized this grocery store?
- 57:07What?
- 57:09So she points out that the honey buns are next to the coffee and then there's
- 57:14something else and something else.
- 57:15She's like, who organized this grocery?
- 57:16This is maddening.
- 57:17When do you have honey buns?
- 57:19In the morning with your coffee.
- 57:20Exactly.
- 57:21Like that actually makes sense.
- 57:22But the rum and bowls that were next to it.
- 57:26Cause he had the munchies.
- 57:28It's the apple strudel aisle.
- 57:29That's what it is.
- 57:30The strudel aisle as they call it in the munchie aisle.
- 57:33So now he heads out to the parking lot where he bumps into Amy slash Angie.
- 57:37Yeah.
- 57:39So like right when he's like trying to like kind of follow
- 57:43Gene Spartan Eastheimer, I'll see what's going on there.
- 57:45Then it's like, Oh, hi, I know you.
- 57:47Oh, and Amy, Angela, Angela.
- 57:50Hey, yeah, we had some good times.
- 57:52I guess his old flame or whatever.
- 57:54Hey, can I ask a favor?
- 57:56And she got all mad, right?
- 57:57And I don't know.
- 57:58Of course, they quickly glazed over how she went from pissed to happy
- 58:02to pissed again, but that's fine.
- 58:03But what I thought was great about this is she's confronting
- 58:06you don't even remember my name.
- 58:07Do you ever remember?
- 58:08And he's like, uh, uh, uh, and I was expecting him to have a Boston
- 58:12legal moment here and go mad cow.
- 58:15That was the answer to everything.
- 58:17I'm busted legal when he couldn't get his way out.
- 58:19I am mad cow moments opportunities lost in this.
- 58:23He essentially said that because he said like he wasn't doing well.
- 58:26And then she took it as like he had some major health issues.
- 58:29So he indirectly said mad cow.
- 58:32Yeah, so he guilts her basically into giving him a ride or whatever, and
- 58:35like, Hey, just follow that red jeep.
- 58:37Because that's not weird at all.
- 58:38Yeah, but then she like pulls up alongside it, and he just like
- 58:42drops that seat down to hide.
- 58:44She's like, Hey, that's your buddy Isai Morales.
- 58:46That's who you wanted to talk to, right?
- 58:48Hi, hello.
- 58:49Isai Morales even like rolls down his window and stuff and
- 58:51is like, Hi, do I know you?
- 58:53What's this about you?
- 58:54Come on, get up, get up.
- 58:55And you know, he won't.
- 58:56He's, Cowering or whatever.
- 58:58That's my girlfriend.
- 58:59Cut to him left on the side of the road as he peels out.
- 59:02I was kind of expecting the cops to pull her over down the street
- 59:04how fast she was got out of there.
- 59:06Right?
- 59:07He's also gonna lose her license.
- 59:09They're gonna take classes together.
- 59:10Nah.
- 59:11Instead, I guess he takes a taxi to the golf course that
- 59:14he knew they were going to.
- 59:16Cool.
- 59:17Steals a golf cart from somebody.
- 59:19And peeps on them and sees them like in their robes and stuff at the golf course.
- 59:24And I'm like Okay, someone's gonna have to explain this to me later.
- 59:27Maybe it's a golf course and spa.
- 59:28I don't know.
- 59:29But it never gets explained.
- 59:31No.
- 59:31Okay, I just want to make sure I didn't miss anything.
- 59:33Looking at the cast, there was like somebody in the cast and
- 59:36it said that dude's neighbor.
- 59:39I was like, when the hell did we ever meet a woman that was his neighbor?
- 59:44But it's then, right?
- 59:46Isn't there like some woman like staring?
- 59:47So was that his house next to a golf course?
- 59:50Yeah, I mean, there are houses on golf courses all over the place.
- 59:53That makes way more sense.
- 59:54Okay, like he has the hot tub or something, and a couple, okay, okay.
- 59:58He lives on a country club.
- 59:59Alright, so when they were talking about their torrid love affairs stuff before,
- 1:00:03she mentioned that she had a child.
- 1:00:05She didn't say son or daughter, and I'm like, I got it, Isai Morales is her son.
- 1:00:09That's gonna be the thing.
- 1:00:11No, I figured it was the girl.
- 1:00:12They're doing a spa date.
- 1:00:13I knew it was the girl.
- 1:00:14Yeah.
- 1:00:14Mommy, mommy son spa date, those things happen.
- 1:00:16I knew he was gay the whole time.
- 1:00:18Hold on a second, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 1:00:21Sons can be gay, it's okay.
- 1:00:23Okay.
- 1:00:23No, no, no.
- 1:00:23But I knew that the angle was going to be that he's gay,
- 1:00:27not that he was like related.
- 1:00:28I figured that out too.
- 1:00:30I guessed it at one point, right?
- 1:00:31I sort of thought, okay, maybe she's in the robe and she's doing
- 1:00:36like a nude portrait and he's painting her or something like that.
- 1:00:38So I was going to play it off as maybe it's a little bit more innocent, which
- 1:00:41is then how I kind of put it together to say, well, he's not interested
- 1:00:44in her romantically because he's an artist and he's gay and whatever.
- 1:00:48And then, you know, we come to find out later, the guy driving the Audi is.
- 1:00:51And all that kind of stuff.
- 1:00:53But what confused me though, is that it took you two thirds of the movie
- 1:00:59and you didn't realize the girl from the cuckoo clock cafe was her daughter.
- 1:01:03Like you thought the painter was her son.
- 1:01:05I assume she was at the beginning, but it wasn't mentioned.
- 1:01:09So I'm like, Oh no, it's just like.
- 1:01:10The girl that look, honestly, it's her granddaughter.
- 1:01:13Let's be for real, right?
- 1:01:15, that girl is 19 to 22.
- 1:01:18Jean Smart's in her early eighties.
- 1:01:20That's her granddaughter.
- 1:01:22Jean Smart supposedly had her when she was like 19 in Venezuela.
- 1:01:27Back before it was Communist or something.
- 1:01:29It was Egypt.
- 1:01:30It was Egypt.
- 1:01:30It was Egypt.
- 1:01:30Oh, okay.
- 1:01:31I know.
- 1:01:31Yeah.
- 1:01:32It was Egypt back in the reign of Ramsey's IV
- 1:01:38I think we broke Tanya this time.
- 1:01:42Apparently, Ancient Egyptian is her trigger there, Steve.
- 1:01:46You got her.
- 1:01:47That's her baseball bat on the forehead.
- 1:01:49Right there.
- 1:01:50Ramsey's the four.
- 1:01:52You've done it.
- 1:01:52And see, also, Sonia or whatever her name is, I thought she
- 1:01:55was the girl from Entourage.
- 1:01:57Emmanuel Shariki or whatever, however you say her last name.
- 1:02:00So, yeah, what the hell happens from here?
- 1:02:02He sees him in the robes.
- 1:02:02Oh yeah, he gets the cops called on him because he's peeping on
- 1:02:05people in their robes during nude painting hour or whatever.
- 1:02:09Of course, it's the same, the one lady cop.
- 1:02:11Because she's at the golf course now.
- 1:02:12It's not just their local security or whatever.
- 1:02:14That's the only cop duo in Palm Springs.
- 1:02:17Mayberry.
- 1:02:18It's like Barney.
- 1:02:21They run all of Palm Springs is their beat.
- 1:02:24Palm Springs 9 1 1 or whatever.
- 1:02:27But he's like, yeah, just, just looking for my ball out of wild three, like.
- 1:02:31Hmm, you're lucky this time as they pull up like an lwl3 ball and
- 1:02:35I'm like, wait, did he know that?
- 1:02:36Did he?
- 1:02:36Oh, no, the look on his face is like oh god.
- 1:02:39He's like, holy shit I'm, not even a golfer, but the next day he's at the
- 1:02:43cafe and he's like, hey So I saw you with Isai Morales and blah blah blah and
- 1:02:48she's like, oh you were spying on me like well No, I was just on a golf course and
- 1:02:51I saw you there And you don't trust me?
- 1:02:53Fine, you need to leave.
- 1:02:54Okay, drama.
- 1:02:55And I'm like, just hell each other.
- 1:02:58Like, oh, he's my son, is what I was thinking at the time.
- 1:03:01Oh my god.
- 1:03:02But, but no, it's even worse.
- 1:03:03Like, oh no, we're back to this shit.
- 1:03:05My friend slash patron of the arts that comes here all the time.
- 1:03:10And I was posing for him.
- 1:03:12for you.
- 1:03:13Nude.
- 1:03:14He was painting a nude photo of me for you.
- 1:03:18And then cut to the picture, but instead of George Costanza, it's her.
- 1:03:22Yeah, exactly.
- 1:03:23Exactly.
- 1:03:24And then guys, guess what?
- 1:03:26This would be the end of the movie.
- 1:03:28This is why Roll credits.
- 1:03:30Who cares if he gets his car back?
- 1:03:31That's why I hate rom coms, because I hate the stupid misunderstanding
- 1:03:36that would just be like, oh, you're jealous of the painter?
- 1:03:39But no, it's like, no, I can't say that.
- 1:03:44Oh god, it was so cringy.
- 1:03:47The cuckoo clock told me you were the one.
- 1:03:49I was also waiting for like the whole thing like, oh, I just can't believe
- 1:03:52you're cheating on me, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:03:53And I was waiting for a reply like, hey, how's that model from the first act doing?
- 1:03:57Right?
- 1:03:58I'm waiting for Angela Lansbury to show up as her mother to give her advice.
- 1:04:02Ooh, I got some bad news about that, Eric.
- 1:04:05Angela Lansbury, may she rest in peace.
- 1:04:09Oh, sorry.
- 1:04:09I forgot.
- 1:04:10But that's what I was thinking.
- 1:04:11I was like, we need a motherly character for the mother to put her in her place.
- 1:04:15Dame Judi Dench to show her.
- 1:04:16There you go.
- 1:04:18She's too busy filming Shazam.
- 1:04:21Then Steve and I had one of these moments in our relationship early on.
- 1:04:24He had several, like, lady friends who were gorgeous, way prettier than me.
- 1:04:28who he hung out with all the time.
- 1:04:30And I remember at one point I was like, Hey, so are you guys dating?
- 1:04:33Like, are we not exclusive?
- 1:04:35Or did you guys used to date?
- 1:04:36And it was a really simple answer.
- 1:04:37Steve started laughing.
- 1:04:38I was like, Oh God, no.
- 1:04:39I would never touch any of them.
- 1:04:40I've seen what they look like.
- 1:04:42Exactly.
- 1:04:42I don't love these hoes.
- 1:04:43I'm about the dough.
- 1:04:45Get back.
- 1:04:45And then I sent them back to the corner.
- 1:04:47You guys use these things called words.
- 1:04:49Yeah.
- 1:04:49To communicate.
- 1:04:50With each other.
- 1:04:51Or pictographs if words don't work.
- 1:04:53Yeah, they don't know how to use those in these movies.
- 1:04:55That costs extra when you add more words in the movie.
- 1:04:59It costs more.
- 1:05:00We spend all of our money on that history of the cuckoo clock scene.
- 1:05:04Oh my god, they, yeah, they blew the budget.
- 1:05:07It takes this 150 movie to 152.
- 1:05:10Are you kidding?
- 1:05:11Renting those cars for a day is more than 152.
- 1:05:14Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 1:05:14And here's the stupidest part of that.
- 1:05:16She then goes back and tells Sonya like, You believe that he thinks
- 1:05:20that me and Esai Morales are a thing?
- 1:05:22Ah!
- 1:05:23Right?
- 1:05:23And I'm like, You don't You told him you're not, right?
- 1:05:25Like, this is when we get to, No, I just can't stand jealous men.
- 1:05:29This is also the point where Steve should have gone, Oh, she's the daughter.
- 1:05:37Yeah, this was The point when they mentioned it specifically that she
- 1:05:42was the daughter because I thought it was going to be Isai Morales.
- 1:05:45They specifically said child.
- 1:05:47Plot twist.
- 1:05:48And she was like, mom, what are you doing?
- 1:05:49Because she was sitting there on the floor drunk.
- 1:05:51We've all been there.
- 1:05:51She calls everybody mom.
- 1:05:53She said something coy about like only one drink out of this
- 1:05:56bottle or something like that.
- 1:05:58It was like, okay.
- 1:05:59But prior to that, the thing I'm surprised that Steve didn't pick up
- 1:06:02on was the fact that earlier in the movie they were talking and she was
- 1:06:06like regarding the cuckoo clock and she was like, well, what about, you know,
- 1:06:09what grandma said about it or whatever?
- 1:06:11Exactly.
- 1:06:12There were so many like little things.
- 1:06:14What about what grandma used to say?
- 1:06:15You mean what I used to say being your grandmother?
- 1:06:18I didn't have a child when I was 68.
- 1:06:20She could have been Belladonna's daughter.
- 1:06:22I mean, yes, I can see where you would get that confused for sure.
- 1:06:25So what happens, oh yeah, so Vic and his buddy Torres now, cause they're buddies
- 1:06:28now, the guy in the Impala, they go to the junkyard cause he says, fuck it, I'm
- 1:06:32gonna break in and steal my car, I guess.
- 1:06:34I wrote down a note, he's walking down the road, and Torres walks up to
- 1:06:38him, right, cause isn't he carrying groceries again or something like that?
- 1:06:40Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:41Wants to give him a ride.
- 1:06:42I wrote down, is he eating a push pop?
- 1:06:44He was drinking it.
- 1:06:45Is that what he was doing?
- 1:06:46There's that like scene you see it in a lot of like older films, a guy's
- 1:06:49walking down the road, you know, with an ice cream or a beer or something.
- 1:06:51And he's just kind of slowly doing whatever.
- 1:06:53And he's doing the same thing, but I'm like, is that a push pop?
- 1:06:55Like, is that a Flintstones push pop?
- 1:06:57It looked like he was drinking it because it kind of goes back to earlier.
- 1:07:01in the movie and he had his groceries and his ice cream melted.
- 1:07:04This is the deep plot that is in this movie.
- 1:07:06So yes, he gets picked up by Torres.
- 1:07:07Also, is Torres following him now?
- 1:07:10I'm wondering, he's a little stalkery, right?
- 1:07:12Yeah, a little bit.
- 1:07:13Palm Springs is not very big, apparently.
- 1:07:15And the guy's unemployed, so boom.
- 1:07:17Yes.
- 1:07:18So they go to like break in and steal his car back, but the car's gone!
- 1:07:21Nope, there it is, it's right over there.
- 1:07:23And they overhear like a conversation of like, Oh yeah, 200, you get it for
- 1:07:26the day or whatever the hell it was.
- 1:07:28Like.
- 1:07:28You're renting out my car, you asshole!
- 1:07:31And confrontation happens and Torres has it all on his phone or whatever.
- 1:07:36Allegedly.
- 1:07:36I was pretty sure that was just a ruse.
- 1:07:39That was like one of those badass videos they did in sunny in Philadelphia.
- 1:07:42He's like, Operation Badass!
- 1:07:45Project Badass!
- 1:07:47Well, this is where you can find the quality of the place
- 1:07:49they're storing the car at.
- 1:07:50Because as they roll up, they show like a picture of the little office.
- 1:07:53There's a piece of plywood above the door.
- 1:07:55That's just spray painted.
- 1:07:56Like where some stencils, this has Johnny's junk.
- 1:07:59Did that look familiar to you, Dan?
- 1:08:01No, it is backyard.
- 1:08:06Nice.
- 1:08:07But, uh, so yeah, Shatner starts having a heart attack and I'm like.
- 1:08:10Okay, he's pretending so then they'll like casually get the keys,
- 1:08:14take the car, drive off, and he's like, Hey, worked like a charm.
- 1:08:18Nope, he was really having a heart attack, but that's exactly
- 1:08:20what happened as they drive off.
- 1:08:22You know, they end up getting like a police escort from lady cop.
- 1:08:25We're like, no, the guy's having a heart attack.
- 1:08:26I'm going to mention again, 44 horsepower.
- 1:08:29Okay.
- 1:08:29Like this is a high speed pursuit.
- 1:08:32And then they're yelling at each other.
- 1:08:33He's not a ticket to the hospital and then he get the police escort.
- 1:08:36It's like the slowest police chase ever.
- 1:08:39Did you notice the second police car come out of nowhere instantly on their tail?
- 1:08:42Yeah.
- 1:08:42When you're only going 44 miles an hour.
- 1:08:45I mean, come on.
- 1:08:46It's not hard to catch this.
- 1:08:46They were called from two counties over and caught up.
- 1:08:49Yeah, so then he goes to the hospital, and a couple days later, whatever, he's at the
- 1:08:52bar, and Spinelli's like, Hey, how was it?
- 1:08:55Like, I don't know.
- 1:08:56Near death experience.
- 1:08:57I don't want to be like Ted, the guy on the scooter.
- 1:09:00Okay.
- 1:09:01I want to be with Carolyn.
- 1:09:04Oh, okay, cool.
- 1:09:06Then just go talk to her.
- 1:09:07That's all you need to do, guys.
- 1:09:08Instead, he's like, hey, can you, uh, can you help me change awkwardly
- 1:09:12for the next three or four minutes?
- 1:09:13Change out of these hospital clothes and into pants.
- 1:09:16I expected to see William Shatner butt cheeks.
- 1:09:20I was gripping the sides of the chair.
- 1:09:22Well, I see the captain's log.
- 1:09:23Don't you lie to me.
- 1:09:28I was not ready for that.
- 1:09:29I'm like, I'm gonna be Emotionally.
- 1:09:32Just scorned for the rest of my life.
- 1:09:34Oh, that's why this thing's rated R.
- 1:09:38I know now.
- 1:09:39Little William Shatner in there.
- 1:09:41Looks like he had a little work in there done.
- 1:09:44But yeah, basically after the awkward changing or whatever, they then
- 1:09:48show up at like Spinelli's arts and crafts class at the retirement home.
- 1:09:53And guys, the greatest song ever written starts playing.
- 1:09:58Because it's like, it's a tortoise.
- 1:10:01Not a turtle, a tortoise is on land and a turtle in the water.
- 1:10:06And you know the best part of that is, my wife goes, That's a Perry Gripz song.
- 1:10:10I'm like, oh no.
- 1:10:13She has the greatest hits album.
- 1:10:14My kids listen to that stuff.
- 1:10:16Yeah, so then we go down to the fundraising tortoise rally that has
- 1:10:21brought all the dozen of people in town.
- 1:10:24The news are there, like, yeah, sorry, I think it's gonna be turned out a
- 1:10:27little later once, I don't know, the whole folks are done with their soup.
- 1:10:31Yeah, not quite the turnout they were looking for, but Honk honk, who is it?
- 1:10:35It's a goddamn golf cart with a paper mache turtle shell.
- 1:10:38Obama, it's not just a golf cart, it's a posse of golf carts.
- 1:10:43Oh, it is.
- 1:10:43All of the golf course.
- 1:10:45And the rascals, right?
- 1:10:46Exactly.
- 1:10:47But did you see some of those golf carts?
- 1:10:48There was a hot rod, like ZZ Top golf cart.
- 1:10:50That thing was cool.
- 1:10:52And if this were in Florida, it'd be those grizzlies or whatever with the
- 1:10:55giant wheels Be a snapping turtle.
- 1:10:58But yeah, so they, uh, pull up and like, Oh my God, that's so amazing.
- 1:11:03Quick.
- 1:11:03Get it on film.
- 1:11:04The mildest of winds come by and launch that bitch into space.
- 1:11:08I mean, it's made of paper.
- 1:11:09Izzy, you make crafts.
- 1:11:11How late is paper?
- 1:11:13Mache is quite light, but not.
- 1:11:16a Eight foot turtle disappearing into space while we were watching this.
- 1:11:20I was like, oh this thing just landed on like i 90 Killed seven truck drivers What
- 1:11:26I wanted the next scene to be is like, yeah, it flies off or whatever Everybody's
- 1:11:30like, oh my god, blah blah blah.
- 1:11:31I wanted to go to the junkyard And the guy who just stole the
- 1:11:35car from is like, RAAAAH!!!
- 1:11:37And it lands on him.
- 1:11:38No!
- 1:11:39No, No, it's opportunity lost again.
- 1:11:42Right?
- 1:11:42I thought we were on the same wavelength.
- 1:11:44The thing gets rocketed up into the air as, as Izzy's saying.
- 1:11:47And they're doin the whole, oh my god, he's, it's this chivalry thing
- 1:11:50and romanced by him yet again.
- 1:11:52And blah, blah, blah, this kind of stuff.
- 1:11:54And as he pulls up, or pulls away actually, cause she's busy with the news.
- 1:11:57He kind of drives off in the golf cart.
- 1:11:59What would have been awesome, is if it had descended.
- 1:12:02Good.
- 1:12:03You know, from the stratosphere burning up on re entry and then crashed into the
- 1:12:07ground in a smoldering pile behind them.
- 1:12:11Like, that would have been epic.
- 1:12:13I feel like you're picturing this as a Mel Brooks movie.
- 1:12:17A hundred percent.
- 1:12:19They didn't hit the budget for the fire.
- 1:12:21By the way, where's Mel Brooks?
- 1:12:22He should be in this movie.
- 1:12:24Yeah, where's Mel Brooks?
- 1:12:25He should be the guy on the scooter.
- 1:12:26You guys, what should have happened was when he's taking his final
- 1:12:30driving test, He's pulling out onto the main rope and the turtle
- 1:12:35crashes behind him as he pulls out.
- 1:12:39The instructor is like, congratulations, the first perfect
- 1:12:41driving test I've ever given.
- 1:12:43Steps out, boom, flaming tortoise shell.
- 1:12:47It should have been used just like in Stuntman where the
- 1:12:49plane just keeps nose diving.
- 1:12:53Turtle shell just shows up continuously.
- 1:12:57Mario Kart around the place.
- 1:13:00They look up, it's flying by he leaves while she's talking to reporters or
- 1:13:03whatever and he's like watching the news later that night and like the
- 1:13:06only clip is like the thing flying off and him screaming, oh shit,
- 1:13:12That was a good scene though.
- 1:13:13That was a good scene.
- 1:13:13Then he goes like for his morning walk or whatever, and there's
- 1:13:16this guy, I just have his dude.
- 1:13:18'cause every word out of his mouth is dude.
- 1:13:20He's like, dude.
- 1:13:21That was cool yesterday, dude.
- 1:13:22Yeah, thanks, dude.
- 1:13:23Hey half a million hits, dude.
- 1:13:25Is that a good thing dude?
- 1:13:28Oh, yeah, the dog little dude.
- 1:13:29Did you know the dog's actual name is prince joff g o f f.
- 1:13:33Of course Prince geoff Anyway, moving on.
- 1:13:38So now it's the big day of, uh, his retest.
- 1:13:40He has zero fatalities as far as we see.
- 1:13:43And this is where, yeah, like the district attorney's like
- 1:13:46watching him with binoculars.
- 1:13:47Cause she just hangs out at the DMV.
- 1:13:50That's how it is in that family.
- 1:13:51How bad is your life?
- 1:13:54And all of his bar buddies are there too, like hiding under the
- 1:13:57one tree so that they can be in the shade for more than 15 minutes.
- 1:14:00And they're all like cheering him on like, yeah, good job.
- 1:14:03Oh, that's right.
- 1:14:04He goes on to the actual road and he like slams on the brakes.
- 1:14:07The instructor's like, what the hell?
- 1:14:08What's going on?
- 1:14:09Like, and he gets out and he gets a tortoise out of the street.
- 1:14:11And I'm like, so the instructor didn't see that.
- 1:14:14Uh, okay.
- 1:14:15Well, whatever.
- 1:14:15I don't know.
- 1:14:16But he saved the tortoise and took it back out to some sand
- 1:14:1910 feet away from the road.
- 1:14:21I have to give William Shatner some credit because I picked up turtles
- 1:14:23that size and they're not very light.
- 1:14:25So I'll give him some credit for picking a heavy thing up.
- 1:14:27Yeah.
- 1:14:27It was made of paper mache.
- 1:14:30And then he flew off into space.
- 1:14:32Like, little Gamera, just, Ran to all children.
- 1:14:38But, uh, And so that reminds him, Oh, that's right, I want to be with
- 1:14:41Carolyn, so he goes to the cafe.
- 1:14:43Yeah, he's there.
- 1:14:44She introduces Sonya as her daughter.
- 1:14:46Isai Morales shows up.
- 1:14:48They, like, kiss or whatever.
- 1:14:50And he's like, oh, all right.
- 1:14:52No match for Isai Morales, obviously.
- 1:14:54He's like 50 years my junior.
- 1:14:55Her son.
- 1:14:56Yeah, that's what I thought.
- 1:14:58That's why, like, the kissing thing here in the last scene, I'm like, well,
- 1:15:00at this point I'd already figured out, okay, so Sonia's the one child that
- 1:15:04she had and spoke of, or whatever.
- 1:15:06Like, then who is Isai Morales?
- 1:15:07Is he just some painter dude that hangs out with?
- 1:15:10Yeah, that makes sense, too.
- 1:15:11Why didn't she just say that?
- 1:15:12I don't know, because then we'd have the last 30 minutes of this movie.
- 1:15:16But, uh, yeah, then we meet Isai Morales husband, Brian.
- 1:15:19Oh, hi nice to meet you.
- 1:15:21And then yeah, she mentioned something about doing a painting
- 1:15:24and I'm like a nude painting?
- 1:15:25When's that coming out?
- 1:15:26Is that going to be at the next auction?
- 1:15:28After they finally explain it a little bit, not much, but
- 1:15:31just enough, and they're like, oh, I'm sorry, and they kiss.
- 1:15:35And then everyone in the cafe applauds because they have nothing
- 1:15:39better to do in their life.
- 1:15:40Roll credits.
- 1:15:41Nope!
- 1:15:41There's more, guys.
- 1:15:43Because then we go to Vic's house.
- 1:15:44Carolyn's visiting, and Torres is there too, like, helping,
- 1:15:47like, fix the car, right?
- 1:15:48Because he's got the Porsche back, everybody.
- 1:15:50He passed his test and all that.
- 1:15:51And then he basically hands Torres the keys, like, Hey, you wanna do the honors?
- 1:15:55Take it for a test drive, make me an offer, I've found my new
- 1:15:58baby, and then kisses Carolyn.
- 1:16:00So fake!
- 1:16:01Lies!
- 1:16:03Not both, don't give up the car.
- 1:16:05Yeah, right?
- 1:16:06Joke's on you, Torres, it's a kit car.
- 1:16:08It's not a real Porsche.
- 1:16:09I can't believe I didn't realize that when I was fixing it.
- 1:16:12So that's an interesting point you bring up there, Brad, and I'm glad
- 1:16:15we're finally at this because the ending scene has a lot to do with the 356.
- 1:16:19And I was convinced it didn't say Speedster on the side.
- 1:16:24It was a super 1600 on the back.
- 1:16:26The lights were definitely 55 like all this kind of stuff.
- 1:16:28I was really trying to place the car and there was a couple shots of the interiors.
- 1:16:32It didn't look right.
- 1:16:32They just looked out of period for like a 55, 356.
- 1:16:35And Tanya said, she goes, it says something with a C on the side, right?
- 1:16:39And I'm like, Oh, it must be like some custom, like a Beck or
- 1:16:42something like that, or replica.
- 1:16:43It's really a beetle, you know, or whatever.
- 1:16:45Turns out it's a real three 56.
- 1:16:47I got confirmation that there's an owner.
- 1:16:48It's thing.
- 1:16:50There was a PCA.
- 1:16:51Decal on the rear grill and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:16:54So it turns out it's actually a very special three 56,
- 1:16:5755, three 56 continental.
- 1:17:01And so they did this limited run.
- 1:17:03Portia did where they kind of mimic the Lincoln continental idea, super luxurious,
- 1:17:08had all this other kind of stuff.
- 1:17:10And what's really interesting about it is it's sort of this.
- 1:17:13Half year split between the early 356s and when the 356As came out
- 1:17:19and followed by the Bs, the Cs, and the Carrera GS and all that stuff.
- 1:17:22So it's like a really limited run of 356.
- 1:17:25So it's actually a pretty rare car.
- 1:17:26Once I kind of found that out, it gave me a new focus on the film to
- 1:17:31say, Why did they pick that when they could have gotten any other run of
- 1:17:34the mill early 356 they wanted to?
- 1:17:37But they chose that maybe because they knew somebody that had it.
- 1:17:40you know, in their garage, whatever the, you know, low in the car.
- 1:17:43But still, it's pretty interesting that like a lot of the stars in
- 1:17:47the film, it into itself is a star in the collector car community,
- 1:17:51especially in the Porsche community.
- 1:17:52So I thought that was pretty cool.
- 1:17:53Yeah.
- 1:17:54Okay.
- 1:17:54Yeah.
- 1:17:54So yeah, Torres drives in that, but then almost immediately Shatner
- 1:17:58pulls up in that BMW i8, the blue one from the track or whatever.
- 1:18:01I'm like, Oh, That's the new baby he's found.
- 1:18:04He was just pulling Carol's chain.
- 1:18:06I get it.
- 1:18:06All right.
- 1:18:07And then, uh, yeah, they do a little vroom vroom at the light.
- 1:18:09I assume they both get pulled over and we get a sequel.
- 1:18:13And then we get Spinelli the Impala, like hitting them switches.
- 1:18:17Everyone wants to see Christopher Lloyd hitting switches.
- 1:18:19Yeah.
- 1:18:20Alright, did you guys notice at the one point, I think he actually smacked
- 1:18:24his head on the roof of the car.
- 1:18:25Oh, he totally did.
- 1:18:26Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:18:27He gave himself a concussion.
- 1:18:28It was painful.
- 1:18:29Like, that's why you wear a seatbelt.
- 1:18:30When Christopher Lloyd rolls off into, like, the desert area, first
- 1:18:33thing that came to mind to me was the one episode of Roadkill where
- 1:18:37they got one and took it off roading.
- 1:18:39I'm gonna take it up to you, like.
- 1:18:40Yeah, I can see where you're going, yeah.
- 1:18:43But that car suited him, though.
- 1:18:45He looked good in that car.
- 1:18:46It worked for him.
- 1:18:47He is Christopher Lloyd.
- 1:18:48Roll credits.
- 1:18:49There was no bonus.
- 1:18:50You know, I didn't really stay around to the end, and even if there was extra,
- 1:18:53I don't think it would have mattered.
- 1:18:55I didn't either.
- 1:18:55I think some bloopers or some outtakes would have been
- 1:18:58fun for this movie, though.
- 1:19:00This is a Burt Reynolds movie?
- 1:19:00What are you expecting here?
- 1:19:02Him and Dom DeLuise, right, going at it.
- 1:19:05He's expecting the Marvel clip at the end of the credits.
- 1:19:09Samuel L.
- 1:19:09Jackson shows up for the sequel.
- 1:19:12If he was the bus driver the whole time.
- 1:19:15Ah, on that note.
- 1:19:16So yeah, guys, that's Senior Moment.
- 1:19:18Would you recommend it?
- 1:19:19Yes.
- 1:19:20Fun for the whole family.
- 1:19:21It's a great date night movie.
- 1:19:23Liar.
- 1:19:25Parents will love it.
- 1:19:26You can Netflix and blue pill.
- 1:19:31Who is this?
- 1:19:32Go, Kirk.
- 1:19:32You're slap, happy grandpappy.
- 1:19:34I love it.
- 1:19:35Oh my God.
- 1:19:37So is that recommendations all around then?
- 1:19:39Mailman Dan?
- 1:19:40I'm middle of the road on this one.
- 1:19:42It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.
- 1:19:44We've seen much worse train wrecks than this.
- 1:19:46Go in with real low expectations.
- 1:19:48That way they're read.
- 1:19:49Lowered expectations.
- 1:19:53That's what it is.
- 1:19:54There's definitely worse movies than that movie.
- 1:19:57If you're doing something else and need background noise.
- 1:20:00You want it to be William Shatner for some reason.
- 1:20:02You put on Frazier instead.
- 1:20:04Now I know how this works.
- 1:20:05Don't listen to his album.
- 1:20:06Listen to Senior Moment.
- 1:20:07The Rascal Bumper Cars.
- 1:20:09Portion of the movie just made it from the driving test was
- 1:20:12definitely up there to there again.
- 1:20:13There's these little vignettes these little moments that you can stitch
- 1:20:17together into the trailer for this movie And you've seen the whole thing which
- 1:20:20is the disappointing part I felt like I saw the whole movie before I saw the
- 1:20:24movie which is fine and neither here nor there But i'm with dan i'm sort of 50
- 1:20:2750 on this My wife comes to the table and says there's nothing redeeming.
- 1:20:31There was a painful lack of story, no plot, no point, toxic masculinity.
- 1:20:36Like, there's a lot of things in the negative column.
- 1:20:39Don't disagree with her and that's why I'm 50 50 on it.
- 1:20:41But on the same token, I look at it and go, It's Jean Smart.
- 1:20:46It's Half of the Sheen clan, it's this, it's that.
- 1:20:49It's one of the Sheens.
- 1:20:51It's a flying turtle.
- 1:20:53It's one of the Estevez's, guys.
- 1:20:55It's the Estevez B side.
- 1:20:58Look, if Charlie and Emilio showed up filming Young Guns 3 or something, yeah,
- 1:21:02that'd be great, but that's not this one.
- 1:21:05All of that aside, the point is, You have to appreciate it for William
- 1:21:09Shatner doing a movie at 90 years old and looking good doing it.
- 1:21:14He's still there and I feel like he's drinking from whatever Fountain
- 1:21:18of Youth Betty White was at.
- 1:21:20I want to see him do another movie like this when he's 100.
- 1:21:22For that alone, it's worth watching because how many times do you get to
- 1:21:27see a 90 plus year old actor Doing something like this in hollywood.
- 1:21:32Well now the christopher plumber's gone But but you get my point though, right?
- 1:21:37So for that I appreciate it.
- 1:21:38Oh, yeah, totally I get it Yeah, it's impressive.
- 1:21:40I'll give it that it was better than I thought but guys it doesn't matter what
- 1:21:43we think because rotten tomatoes Oh god, what do you think the critics thought
- 1:21:48do we have any numbers out of 100?
- 1:21:50How many thought it was good tanya pretty low, but I saw what the number was brad.
- 1:21:54Is it single digits.
- 1:21:56Is that your guess?
- 1:21:58I'm gonna guess nine and a half percent.
- 1:22:02Robin.
- 1:22:03Mandan.
- 1:22:04I was thinking like, probably like a 33, 34.
- 1:22:07Oh, okay.
- 1:22:08Eric?
- 1:22:08I know the answer, so I can't say.
- 1:22:10I'm gonna stay.
- 1:22:11Izzy?
- 1:22:11I am gonna go with my super generous 17 percent.
- 1:22:15I believe Izzy is the closest.
- 1:22:16It's 21 percent with the critics.
- 1:22:18But.
- 1:22:20What about that audience score?
- 1:22:21The one that really matters.
- 1:22:22Fuck those critics!
- 1:22:24Izzy, any guess on the audience?
- 1:22:26Uh, 25.
- 1:22:27Brad?
- 1:22:27I'm gonna guess zero because nobody watched it.
- 1:22:31Alright, Dan?
- 1:22:32I'm gonna say a drop down to like 15 on that.
- 1:22:3576 percent with the audience.
- 1:22:38Guys, when you're doing the audience score, you have to be like, Who's
- 1:22:40gonna watch a movie called Senior Moments starring William Shatner?
- 1:22:43Everyone.
- 1:22:44Old people.
- 1:22:47And they're gonna be like, Oh, that was so sweet.
- 1:22:49She put pot in the strudel.
- 1:22:51Old people are only gonna watch it when it ends up on Turner Classic Movies.
- 1:22:55It's still got a long ways to go before it gets there.
- 1:22:59All right, but now the real question.
- 1:23:00Worldwide box office gross.
- 1:23:03And yes, it does have one.
- 1:23:04Really?
- 1:23:05Yep.
- 1:23:06I didn't even know this was in theaters.
- 1:23:07It apparently so.
- 1:23:08It was during COVID.
- 1:23:09No, no, it was released in 2021.
- 1:23:11During COVID?
- 1:23:13It was the middle of COVID, yeah.
- 1:23:14But I guess it was shot back in 2018 because that one guy
- 1:23:16died in 2019, you were saying.
- 1:23:18So I don't know.
- 1:23:19Okay, well there's a worldwide gross, any guesses?
- 1:23:21I'm always wrong on these.
- 1:23:23I'm gonna go high this time.
- 1:23:25100 million dollars.
- 1:23:26No, not that the answer?
- 1:23:28No.
- 1:23:28No.
- 1:23:28Seven and a half million.
- 1:23:30Tanya?
- 1:23:30Worldwide?
- 1:23:31Worldwide.
- 1:23:32Now see, I am going to go.
- 1:23:33It's also the same as the U.
- 1:23:34S.
- 1:23:35So don't worry.
- 1:23:36It's not like this premiered at Cannes or something.
- 1:23:39Now I was listening to something.
- 1:23:41I was listening to Hot Ones with Matt Damon.
- 1:23:43Matt Damon.
- 1:23:45He was saying something about I like them donuts.
- 1:23:47You just had to make a hundred million to even like begin to possibly be recouping.
- 1:23:52I'm going to go with 112.
- 1:23:55$112 million.
- 1:23:56You think this movie made 112 million?
- 1:23:58No.
- 1:23:58No.
- 1:23:59Okay.
- 1:23:59Brad, how about you?
- 1:24:00What did Eric say?
- 1:24:02I said seven and a half.
- 1:24:03Seven a half?
- 1:24:04Six.
- 1:24:04I'm gonna go 7.51.
- 1:24:06No.
- 1:24:06Yeah, I thought about that.
- 1:24:077.5 and $1 Bob.
- 1:24:10Two and a half million.
- 1:24:11Dan, I was thinking like 3.2.
- 1:24:13Is he $3.20?
- 1:24:153.2
- 1:24:18Deutch Marks.
- 1:24:19Pesos.
- 1:24:19I seem to remember the lowest grossing theatrical release movie of all
- 1:24:23time made 15 and had two refunds.
- 1:24:26Yes, that's The Six Roads.
- 1:24:27Sorry, Catherine Heigl.
- 1:24:29Catherine Heigl film!
- 1:24:31So I'm gonna go 22 and one refund.
- 1:24:34Izzy is the closest, 41, 598.
- 1:24:38No way!
- 1:24:41Yep.
- 1:24:41Wow.
- 1:24:43It's under a million.
- 1:24:45Under a hundred grand.
- 1:24:46Let's see.
- 1:24:46Yeah.
- 1:24:47The film was released four days after William Shatner's 90th
- 1:24:49birthday and, uh, Shatner and Lloyd appeared in Star Trek three, the
- 1:24:53search for Spock for Spock's gold.
- 1:24:56That's right.
- 1:24:56Search for Spock's gold.
- 1:24:57Uh, Shatner's character is a former NASA test pilot in real life.
- 1:25:01Shatner flew into space aboard the Blue Origin spacecraft, New
- 1:25:04Shepard 4, on October 13th, 2021.
- 1:25:08No, he flew aboard the USS Enterprise in 1967.
- 1:25:14And now the sad one, uh, final cinematic appearances of Oh, geez.
- 1:25:19Kay Ballard, who died at 93.
- 1:25:21Denise DeBari, who died at 63.
- 1:25:25And Jack Wallace, I think that's the guy on the scooter, who died at 86.
- 1:25:28They all passed away mysteriously from January 2019 to April of 2020.
- 1:25:33From boredom after watching.
- 1:25:36I mean, natural causes, definitely not COVID.
- 1:25:38But we've reached the most important part.
- 1:25:41What did we learn from Senior Moment?
- 1:25:44Anyone learn anything from this movie?
- 1:25:45Well, I did, but you missed one bit of important trivia.
- 1:25:49I always have an extra little bit for you guys, right?
- 1:25:51Oh, what's that?
- 1:25:52Jean Smart has a laundry list of things that she's been in, as we all know.
- 1:25:56She's the jewel amongst all the rest of them in this movie.
- 1:25:59It's not Christopher Lloyd?
- 1:26:00He's a national treasure.
- 1:26:01It's different, right?
- 1:26:02You Estevez?
- 1:26:04Joe Estevez?
- 1:26:05Can anyone guess what animated?
- 1:26:09series she did some voice acting on.
- 1:26:12Dragon Ball Z.
- 1:26:13SpongeBob SquarePants.
- 1:26:14Cars.
- 1:26:15Is it from the 90s?
- 1:26:16Yes.
- 1:26:16X Men.
- 1:26:17Animaniacs.
- 1:26:18Gargoyles.
- 1:26:18Tailspin.
- 1:26:19Care Bears.
- 1:26:20You guys give up?
- 1:26:21Batman the animated series.
- 1:26:23Correct.
- 1:26:23Of course, I knew Mark Hamill did a lot in that one.
- 1:26:25Oh, who was she?
- 1:26:26Oh, Mark Hamill's the Joker.
- 1:26:27Any animated series trivia from Eric, the answer is Batman The Animated Series.
- 1:26:32Yes.
- 1:26:32What role does she?
- 1:26:33She played a character named Helen.
- 1:26:35Other than that, I'd have to go back and watch to figure out who that is.
- 1:26:40You know what, Eric, get back to me.
- 1:26:42Helen number three.
- 1:26:43She did a lot of voice acting.
- 1:26:45It was one episode.
- 1:26:46A lot of voice acting.
- 1:26:48She was the owner of the strudel shop in season three,
- 1:26:52The Return of the Clock King.
- 1:26:54She had one line.
- 1:26:55He was after her cuckoo clock.
- 1:26:56I would bet a slow amount of money she's probably in an episode of Supernatural.
- 1:27:00A slow amount of money.
- 1:27:03A low amount of money.
- 1:27:05I would probably bet a low amount of money on that too.
- 1:27:08She's been on everything, that's for sure if you look at her.
- 1:27:10It was in a bunch of episodes of Frasier.
- 1:27:13Seven, I think it was, yeah.
- 1:27:15But anyway, that's a little bit of extra trivia for you guys.
- 1:27:17So, what did we learn?
- 1:27:19Well, I know what I learned.
- 1:27:20Turtles are not tortoises.
- 1:27:21The song said so.
- 1:27:23The song did say so.
- 1:27:24A turtle's not a tortoise.
- 1:27:26Turtle, turtle, turtle, turtle, turtle, turtle, turtle.
- 1:27:28I learned Helen Ventrix was Lloyd Ventrix's ex wife.
- 1:27:32I'm looking up to Helen in the, uh, Batman animated series now, sorry.
- 1:27:37You've got him down a Batman animated series rabbit hole, y'all.
- 1:27:40She was the mother of the girl that had the invisible friend mojo.
- 1:27:44Yes.
- 1:27:45You guys remember that episode?
- 1:27:45I do remember that.
- 1:27:46Yeah.
- 1:27:47So she was the mom.
- 1:27:47Oh yeah.
- 1:27:48I, I totally remember that.
- 1:27:49Be No Evil is the name of the episode.
- 1:27:50Spoiler alert.
- 1:27:51Supernatural ripped that episode off too.
- 1:27:53Sure.
- 1:27:53Did any other, uh, nuggets of wisdom?
- 1:27:57I learned that Palm Springs is not the retirement paradise.
- 1:28:01It once was crack dental old people, and there are two cops.
- 1:28:05Sorry, I guess that was a stretch.
- 1:28:06No, no.
- 1:28:07I'm processing that.
- 1:28:08It's a sad truth is what it is.
- 1:28:10Mm-Hmm.
- 1:28:10. I will not be retiring in Bomb Springs as a result of watching that movie.
- 1:28:14And then doing this episode, I learned that the I 8 is a plug in hybrid.
- 1:28:19Learned 90 percent of romantic comedies can be solved in the middle
- 1:28:24of the second act by just saying it.
- 1:28:27I'm trying to think of ones where that's not the case and it's the
- 1:28:29one where Tom Hanks is the villain.
- 1:28:30You've Got Mail, where he's like gaslighting the shit out of Meg
- 1:28:34Ryan for two hours of that movie.
- 1:28:36Like, okay, yeah, I get it.
- 1:28:37He's just a fucking villain.
- 1:28:39But still, if one of them would just be like, hey, I'm the rival.
- 1:28:42Oh, so we can still bang though, right?
- 1:28:46Undoubtedly.
- 1:28:46I think I need to take the most useful knowledge from this, but
- 1:28:49watching this movie, the one thing I learned is I want to get a bunch of
- 1:28:51friends together, go do some rascals and do some bumper cars on rascals.
- 1:28:54I am with you on that.
- 1:28:56Oh my God.
- 1:28:56Let's go to Walmart and we got this.
- 1:28:58You and I have joked about this before, but that's you and me in the.
- 1:29:01The way distant future, my man, the post office, the DMV, the old folks home.
- 1:29:06If it's a private track, you don't even need a license.
- 1:29:09Anything's a private track when you have a rascal.
- 1:29:14So what did I learn?
- 1:29:15I learned that.
- 1:29:17I, too, could write a movie that grosses no money.
- 1:29:20Almost 42 grand.
- 1:29:21And that Tanya thinks that a romantic comedy starring Ramses
- 1:29:25IV would be a fantastic film.
- 1:29:27The Mummy 4.
- 1:29:29Subtitles are all stork, tiger, sand wave.
- 1:29:34There's one more thing I learned from this.
- 1:29:36Eric is way more of a Star Trek nerd than I initially thought he was.
- 1:29:39Where have you been?
- 1:29:40Seriously?
- 1:29:41We have a whole channel on Discord about this.
- 1:29:43About half the channel is in there muted so I don't have to see them.
- 1:29:45Oh my god, your mind would explode about the things we theorize about Star Trek.
- 1:29:50I don't watch that stuff so this is opening my eyes.
- 1:29:53I'm telling you guys, I've said it before, Brad says, you know, if we start
- 1:29:56another podcast, if I could start another podcast, it would be a Star Trek podcast
- 1:29:59and I would call it Deep Thoughts with Gall Ducat because if a tree falls in a
- 1:30:04Bajoran in the forest, it's a Bajoran.
- 1:30:05Nobody's there to hear them scream, do they make a sound?
- 1:30:08Except Gal Ducat, who has them all mic'd.
- 1:30:11Steve's favorite character.
- 1:30:13Gal Ducat is a badass.
- 1:30:15Pretty much.
- 1:30:17Dan's like, I just heard words.
- 1:30:19I don't know what you said, but there were words.
- 1:30:21They weren't English.
- 1:30:24He was speaking Klingon.
- 1:30:25They were Cardassian.
- 1:30:26That was Toddler gibberish.
- 1:30:27Anyway guys, thanks so much for, uh, I don't know, joining
- 1:30:30us or we're joining you.
- 1:30:31I'm not sure what's going on here exactly.
