- 0:40Speaker 3: Welcome into Chip Howard Sports Talk. I'm Caleb Brapoli filling
- 0:43Speaker 3: in for Chippoward for the second time this week here
- 0:47Speaker 3: on the Zone eleven to fifty am ninety three point
- 0:50Speaker 3: seven FM Thursday afternoon in Agiland. I'm here alongside board
- 0:56Speaker 3: op Trey.
- 0:57Speaker 4: Trey. How's it going.
- 0:58Speaker 5: It's going good, going, good time on the mic, so
- 1:02Speaker 5: looking to be better than last time.
- 1:04Speaker 3: I know the people are excited to hear your voice
- 1:09Speaker 3: today as it's only the second time as you mentioned
- 1:11Speaker 3: that you get to do that, so I'm sure that's exciting.
- 1:15Speaker 3: I want to start out by congratulating Aggie Men's Tennis
- 1:19Speaker 3: and Aggie Women's Tennis for both punching their tickets to
- 1:22Speaker 3: the ITA Indoor Championships. That's a tournament that's kind of,
- 1:26Speaker 3: you know, similar to how you know a lot of
- 1:29Speaker 3: the basketball teams play in early season tournaments. So both
- 1:32Speaker 3: Aggie tennis teams in the championship for that. Love to
- 1:36Speaker 3: see some success in the Marione and White. So more
- 1:40Speaker 3: Aggie related news. Braden Montgomery, former AGGI baseball player, was
- 1:45Speaker 3: one of the two non roster invitees of the outfielders
- 1:49Speaker 3: from the Chicago White Sox system invited to spring training,
- 1:54Speaker 3: so he will be in I'm not sure if they're
- 1:56Speaker 3: Florida or Arizona spring training team, but it'll be good
- 1:59Speaker 3: to see him.
- 2:00Speaker 4: Back in action.
- 2:01Speaker 3: He is the number thirty six prospect in the new
- 2:05Speaker 3: twenty twenty six Top one hundred from MLB dot Com.
- 2:08Speaker 4: Brad Montgomery, of.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Course, part of that College World Series run from a
- 2:11Speaker 3: couple of years ago, probably the best overall player on
- 2:15Speaker 3: that team.
- 2:16Speaker 5: If he was in, could we have won.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Yeah, if he.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Wouldn't have got hurt against Oregon, who knows, a lot
- 2:22Speaker 3: of crazy things could have happened. Martin Maldonado, former Astro catcher,
- 2:28Speaker 3: is getting his first chance at managing, which is something
- 2:30Speaker 3: that I always thought he'd be really good at. I mean,
- 2:33Speaker 3: you see a lot of catchers have success as managers.
- 2:35Speaker 3: He is in the Puerto Rican League with Indio's de
- 2:38Speaker 3: Mayaguez on a two year contract, and they have also
- 2:42Speaker 3: hired former Astros hitting coach alex Son Trone to be
- 2:44Speaker 3: their GM.
- 2:45Speaker 4: So a couple Astros.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Down there in the Puerto Rican League, and I think
- 2:52Speaker 3: Martin's gonna have a lot of success as a manager.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Wouldn't be surprised to see him make it to the
- 2:58Speaker 3: big leagues here in a couple of years after getting
- 3:01Speaker 3: some experience. You know, he's still pretty young. I don't
- 3:03Speaker 3: even think for managers. You know, he's under forty, so
- 3:07Speaker 3: that's that'd be pretty crazy for him to get moved
- 3:10Speaker 3: up that quick, kind of like you know, Tony Votello
- 3:13Speaker 3: going from Tennessee to San Francisco.
- 3:15Speaker 5: So his first year in the majors is coming up.
- 3:18Speaker 3: That's going to be a really interesting storyline to watch
- 3:20Speaker 3: this year. How he handles that clubhouse. I think that
- 3:23Speaker 3: we've talked about it someone here before, but that's definitely
- 3:27Speaker 3: something I'm looking forward to see from the Giants, especially
- 3:29Speaker 3: as they're looking to compete this year.
- 3:31Speaker 5: Yeah. I'm not a big baseball guy, not a big
- 3:33Speaker 5: MLB guy. I like college baseball, but that'll be interesting.
- 3:37Speaker 5: That's an interesting storyline to keep an eye on over
- 3:40Speaker 5: the year.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Vitello San Francisco is number nineteen in the Prospect rankings,
- 3:48Speaker 3: so their farm system is nineteenth of all the teams,
- 3:52Speaker 3: which is up a lot from last year where they
- 3:55Speaker 3: were second to last, so they have come a long way.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Vytello is going to have a lot to work with
- 4:00Speaker 3: over there. It'll be interesting to see for sure. Some
- 4:04Speaker 3: more news around the sports world, the Fiesta Bowl will
- 4:07Speaker 3: be putting on the first ever National collegiate women's flag
- 4:11Speaker 3: football Tournament what featuring eight D one universities. This is
- 4:15Speaker 3: going to be hosted by Arizona State, who is of
- 4:18Speaker 3: course one of the universities participating. April eighteenth and nineteenth
- 4:23Speaker 3: Flag Football National Collegiate Women's Tournament.
- 4:26Speaker 5: Who what collegiate women. Are they going to go get
- 4:29Speaker 5: like other I.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Don't know, I mean that would make sense.
- 4:33Speaker 3: I haven't looked into it that much, just saw a headline,
- 4:37Speaker 3: but yeah, there's.
- 4:38Speaker 4: A lot of different directions you could go there.
- 4:39Speaker 3: I mean, you could get some women's lacrosse players out there,
- 4:42Speaker 3: women's women's field hockey are all kinds of stuff like that.
- 4:47Speaker 3: It would be I know that there are flag football
- 4:50Speaker 3: leagues for women, and it seems like that's going to
- 4:53Speaker 3: be a new pipeline that starts happening. Is they play
- 4:56Speaker 3: in high school and then they have collegiate teams, so
- 4:59Speaker 3: that's yeah. Flag football is one of the fastest rising sports.
- 5:03Speaker 3: It is now an NCAA sports so we'll be interesting
- 5:06Speaker 3: to see where that goes.
- 5:07Speaker 5: Speaking of flag football, this weekend, is the Pro Ball
- 5:09Speaker 5: is it not? Yeah?
- 5:12Speaker 3: Some reason there which I've stopped caring about the Pro
- 5:15Speaker 3: Bowl once they started doing the flag football game, to
- 5:18Speaker 3: be honest.
- 5:18Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know why you would really be glued
- 5:21Speaker 5: to your TV to watch flag football. I know they
- 5:23Speaker 5: also play things like dodgeball and tug of war.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Yeah, they have a bunch of different mini games. It's
- 5:30Speaker 3: just hard to do an all star game in NFL
- 5:32Speaker 3: because injuries are so common, and in baseball it's it's
- 5:37Speaker 3: not that bad. You can just have a pitcher throw
- 5:39Speaker 3: one inning and they're usually going to be fine. But
- 5:43Speaker 3: in football, every time you go out there, you're risking,
- 5:45Speaker 3: you know, a career ending injury. So it doesn't really
- 5:48Speaker 3: make a whole lot of sense to have that extra game.
- 5:50Speaker 3: So it makes sense why they don't do that anymore.
- 5:53Speaker 3: But it's still it's just not that interesting to go
- 5:55Speaker 3: out there and just watch them, you know, try to
- 5:58Speaker 3: be trick shot YouTubers for a weekend yeap, Miles Garrett
- 6:02Speaker 3: was named the Sporting News Defensive Player of the Year,
- 6:06Speaker 3: which is an award voted on by peers from around
- 6:10Speaker 3: the league. As his third consecutive year winning the award,
- 6:15Speaker 3: the former Aggie made NFL history this week with twenty
- 6:19Speaker 3: three sacks in a single season, breaking the record held
- 6:23Speaker 3: previously by Michael Strahan, and it's the third time that
- 6:27Speaker 3: he's set the record for the Browns franchise single season
- 6:30Speaker 3: sack record, which he set in twenty twenty one and
- 6:33Speaker 3: then tied in twenty twenty two and broke again this year.
- 6:37Speaker 3: So Miles Garrett owns the leader board. In that stat
- 6:40Speaker 3: for the Browns, he was the first player since nineteen
- 6:43Speaker 3: eighty two to record twelve sacks in six consecutive seasons,
- 6:48Speaker 3: as well as setting the record for the most sacks
- 6:50Speaker 3: by a player under thirty, surpassing Reggie White. So Miles
- 6:52Speaker 3: Garrett looks like he's on a Hall of Fame trajectory.
- 6:57Speaker 5: Sucks that he's on the Browns.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Yeah, that was, you know, last off season, one of
- 7:02Speaker 3: the big storylines was Miles Garrett asking for a trade.
- 7:05Speaker 5: That was last off season.
- 7:06Speaker 4: I think so a long time.
- 7:08Speaker 3: It does feel like a long time ago, but I
- 7:09Speaker 3: think that was the last offseason. Yep, all that talk,
- 7:12Speaker 3: and yes, he acted like he wanted to win, said
- 7:16Speaker 3: it was a priority, and then took the large bag
- 7:19Speaker 3: of money that the Browns threw at him.
- 7:20Speaker 4: And I can't say I blame him.
- 7:21Speaker 3: It's just it's it's unfortunate watching him, watching players like
- 7:25Speaker 3: him on the Browns get wasted. And then it just
- 7:29Speaker 3: reminds me back to baseball that Angels and Mike Trout.
- 7:33Speaker 3: It's just sad to see the stars of the game
- 7:35Speaker 3: beyond teams that are never competing. Quick reminder you can
- 7:42Speaker 3: join the conversation by calling us at nine seven nine
- 7:46Speaker 3: six nine three eleven fifty that's the Player's Fun Center
- 7:49Speaker 3: phone line, or texting us at that same number nine
- 7:52Speaker 3: seven nine six nine three eleven fifty.
- 7:54Speaker 4: We'd love to hear your thoughts.
- 7:57Speaker 3: And continuing with the NFL upcoming Super Bowl, of course,
- 8:02Speaker 3: next on the docket Patriots and Seahawks, and I think
- 8:08Speaker 3: the uniform matchups were announced.
- 8:10Speaker 5: I believe the Patriots had the home pick.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Yeah, so what they choose, well, that mean I think
- 8:17Speaker 3: they're gonna wear home jerseys to the Navy. And then
- 8:21Speaker 3: there was a lot of talk about the about the
- 8:23Speaker 3: two teams using their their throwback uniforms, which would have
- 8:26Speaker 3: looked really good in my opinion, but alas, the NFL
- 8:31Speaker 3: doesn't like cool things for some reason. As we mentioned
- 8:36Speaker 3: the last time that I was on the show, Bill
- 8:38Speaker 3: Belichick did not get voted into the Hall of Fame,
- 8:42Speaker 3: which could make it and another thing that could make
- 8:44Speaker 3: it even more awkward is that Patriots owner Robert Kraft
- 8:50Speaker 3: is also up for Hall of Fame candidacy, which would
- 8:54Speaker 3: be really funny if he gets voted in after Belichick
- 8:56Speaker 3: did not. I think everybody is kind of lost a
- 9:00Speaker 3: lot of respect for the Hall of Fame voting after
- 9:02Speaker 3: Belichick didn't get in, but it still would be really
- 9:05Speaker 3: funny to see Robert Kraft get in and there be
- 9:08Speaker 3: no Belichick. The official announcement of the twenty twenty sixth
- 9:13Speaker 3: class of NFL Hall of Famers will come next Thursday,
- 9:16Speaker 3: in the run up to the Super Bowl. The voting
- 9:19Speaker 3: actually took place on January thirteenth, so the only thing
- 9:22Speaker 3: we know about the voting was the leak that Belichick
- 9:25Speaker 3: didn't get in, which we weren't supposed to know about.
- 9:28Speaker 4: Not really sure where that came from, but.
- 9:33Speaker 5: You know, and not as big a deal as Belichick.
- 9:35Speaker 5: Still no Eli Manning.
- 9:38Speaker 4: He's up for He's up for it. This year.
- 9:40Speaker 3: He could get in, we don't know yet, hope so
- 9:44Speaker 3: Craft would be the seventeenth owner voted in, alongside Jerry
- 9:51Speaker 3: Jones and some others including Willington Morra who was the
- 9:56Speaker 3: Giants owner, and Edward deve Bartolo, who was the Niners owner.
- 10:02Speaker 3: But Craft's team is playing in their tenth Super Bowl
- 10:07Speaker 3: on February eighth, but it'll be the first without Belichick
- 10:10Speaker 3: or Tom Brady in it. Moving into some college basketball news,
- 10:20Speaker 3: undefeated Nebraska finally took their first loss of the season
- 10:25Speaker 3: at Michigan, seventy five to seventy two. A great game
- 10:29Speaker 3: up in the Midwest, Michigan with their nineteenth win and
- 10:35Speaker 3: their ninth in Big Ten play. Nebraska dead lead at
- 10:38Speaker 3: the half fifty to forty eight, and a low scoring
- 10:42Speaker 3: second half saw Michigan get the upper hand, scoring twenty
- 10:45Speaker 3: seven to the corn Huskers twenty two. So a big,
- 10:51Speaker 3: big swing there for Big Ten basketball, as Nebraska was
- 10:56Speaker 3: undef I think they were twenty to zero for the
- 10:57Speaker 3: first time in school history. And we talked about last
- 11:00Speaker 3: time how they still have never won an NCAA tournament game,
- 11:03Speaker 3: which is likely to change this year. I mean, they're
- 11:07Speaker 3: definitely going to make the tournament. Being ranked in the
- 11:09Speaker 3: top five this late, they're almost guaranteed a spot, as
- 11:12Speaker 3: long as they don't completely collapse over the home shreds
- 11:15Speaker 3: of the season. But that'll be an interesting storyline to watch.
- 11:20Speaker 3: We're gonna take a quick break and we'll be back
- 11:22Speaker 3: with some audio of Bucky McMillan previewing the game against Georgia.
- 11:28Speaker 4: We'll be right back after this. On the Zone.

- 13:49Speaker 4: Welcome back to sports talk here on the Zone.
- 13:52Speaker 3: I'm Cala Grappleye filling in for Chip Howard on this
- 13:56Speaker 3: Thursday afternoon. We're about to hear from head coach of
- 14:00Speaker 3: your Texas A and m Aggies men's basketball team.
- 14:03Speaker 4: Bucky McMillan.
- 14:05Speaker 3: With the upcoming Georgia game being the first game action
- 14:09Speaker 3: for the Aggies in a week since they beat South
- 14:13Speaker 3: Carolina last Saturday, So got a little bit of a
- 14:16Speaker 3: buye to rest up and recharge with, which I think
- 14:19Speaker 3: is pretty crucial for the Aggies.
- 14:22Speaker 4: You know, they like to play a very.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Fast style of basketball, So this extra rest, getting the
- 14:30Speaker 3: full seven days, I think they'll be they'll be on
- 14:32Speaker 3: some pretty fresh legs as they go on the road
- 14:36Speaker 3: to take on the Bulldogs in Athens. Let's hear from
- 14:38Speaker 3: Bucky games.
- 14:42Speaker 7: Allow yourself to look at see like, you know this
- 14:44Speaker 7: five game stretch could mean or is it just the
- 14:47Speaker 7: whole coaches.
- 14:49Speaker 5: Camel past Georgia.
- 14:51Speaker 13: Yeah?
- 14:51Speaker 8: I for me, I don't. I'm always just one game
- 14:56Speaker 8: at a time, is really what you say. But I'm
- 14:58Speaker 8: even probably before that, I just think about how can
- 15:00Speaker 8: we play good back? How can we play good? And
- 15:03Speaker 8: I mean that's that's kind of how you give yourself
- 15:05Speaker 8: the best chance. Like I'm not even thinking about Georgia.
- 15:07Speaker 8: I'm thinking about us more than anything, Like how can
- 15:09Speaker 8: we play as well as we can play? And and
- 15:12Speaker 8: then the rest kind of takes care of yourself. I
- 15:14Speaker 8: was watching all the teams last night though, like just
- 15:17Speaker 8: all of them that teams were gonna play coming up
- 15:19Speaker 8: just right there. So all good teams, all different, you know,
- 15:24Speaker 8: they all play very different, and but for us to
- 15:28Speaker 8: have our best chance, we just got to play well.
- 15:30Speaker 7: Speaking of playing teams playing different, how much different is
- 15:33Speaker 7: Georgia in Texas An?
- 15:37Speaker 8: You know, they play fast. There's to the neck a eye,
- 15:41Speaker 8: it's similar in ways, but there's also differences in the
- 15:45Speaker 8: approach and I approached and their approach with certain things.
- 15:49Speaker 8: But to the neck at eye it will look like
- 15:51Speaker 8: a fun, up tempo basketball game. Yep, you talk about
- 15:55Speaker 8: working on yourself.
- 15:55Speaker 5: This week will be a full week off between games.
- 15:58Speaker 5: So what did this week look like for you guys?
- 16:00Speaker 8: Was kind of the focus. Yeah, we took some days off,
- 16:03Speaker 8: two days off, one day on, one day off, and
- 16:06Speaker 8: then practice today and tomorrow. So you know, we did
- 16:11Speaker 8: more skill than anything what I consider skill and just
- 16:15Speaker 8: trying to get our guys skilled back up after the
- 16:18Speaker 8: time off. But we needed some time off, not just
- 16:21Speaker 8: for this game, but just for the duration of the season.
- 16:24Speaker 8: I'm glad, glad some of these guys got it.
- 16:26Speaker 14: And to that point, did you think this came out
- 16:27Speaker 14: a good time, this little kind of week off.
- 16:30Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean it's you know, you'd like to have
- 16:33Speaker 8: like right in the middle, like I bleeve play so
- 16:35Speaker 8: in two more games would been perfect, But you know,
- 16:37Speaker 8: it is what it is.
- 16:40Speaker 14: Sometimes coaches look at seasons and different segments or dividing
- 16:45Speaker 14: stuff up. Do you with the players, do y'all divide
- 16:48Speaker 14: up the conference season or anything like that into any
- 16:50Speaker 14: kind of segments or is it, like you said, truly
- 16:53Speaker 14: just looking at getting good every time.
- 16:55Speaker 8: Yeah, you just want to get better every game and
- 16:57Speaker 8: play the best basketball you can play. In my mind,
- 17:00Speaker 8: and I look at basketball like this. You have the
- 17:02Speaker 8: all the preseason stuff up to the first game, and
- 17:04Speaker 8: then from the first game to conference play, and then
- 17:07Speaker 8: you have conference play. Once we get conference play, our practice,
- 17:10Speaker 8: we try to tone it down a little bit. The
- 17:14Speaker 8: scouts go a little bit deeper obviously, and we know
- 17:17Speaker 8: that there's a two game a week deal, so the
- 17:19Speaker 8: rest becomes important early in the season. It's really about like, hey,
- 17:24Speaker 8: it's just totally about us now. It's like ninety percent
- 17:27Speaker 8: us ten percent of them, I would say, I would
- 17:29Speaker 8: say most teams. It's like a lot of times it's
- 17:32Speaker 8: forty percent of them, sixty percent the other team. But
- 17:34Speaker 8: we try to still stay focused majority on what we
- 17:38Speaker 8: got and then you got the postseason.
- 17:39Speaker 14: Obviously, we asked for Sean about different had similarities between
- 17:43Speaker 14: the two styles. He almost got kind of a little
- 17:45Speaker 14: defensive like, no, we have our styles that some of
- 17:47Speaker 14: that identity, like buy into the identity that you've talked
- 17:50Speaker 14: about that it kind of is part of them and
- 17:53Speaker 14: a part of this team, the way that.
- 17:54Speaker 8: Y'll do things. Yeah, well, I mean we know who
- 17:56Speaker 8: we are and above all else, I mean, we're gonna
- 17:58Speaker 8: have to play extremely hard all the time and pride
- 18:03Speaker 8: ourselves on being that and playing unselfish at all times.
- 18:08Speaker 8: So you know, again, like I don't I think if
- 18:12Speaker 8: you ask our players, they're always going to say we're
- 18:15Speaker 8: our own unique deal because we're not so honed in
- 18:19Speaker 8: on another team. We're so honed in nine percent on
- 18:22Speaker 8: us all the time. So it's really like we feel
- 18:25Speaker 8: that we if we do what we're supposed to do,
- 18:29Speaker 8: we'll be successful. Who controls us doing what we're supposed
- 18:33Speaker 8: to do? We do, so who controls the outcome of
- 18:35Speaker 8: the game, we do because we control the factors that
- 18:40Speaker 8: lead to good basketball, and playing good basketball is winning basketball.
- 18:44Speaker 8: And so that discipline is the mindset you got to have.
- 18:46Speaker 8: And then that way you control everything you do. You're
- 18:49Speaker 8: not relying on them doing something, You relying on on
- 18:52Speaker 8: on us doing something.
- 18:54Speaker 15: For Sean mentioned that you guys have really been focusing
- 18:57Speaker 15: on rebounding as of late. Just what have you seen
- 19:00Speaker 15: from your team that you guys have been able to
- 19:01Speaker 15: make some forward progress.
- 19:03Speaker 8: In that aspect. Yeah, just detail with it. You got
- 19:06Speaker 8: to you know, obviously, block out every time. You know,
- 19:11Speaker 8: you see a lot of fouls called in a basketball game,
- 19:13Speaker 8: but there's not a lot called on hard blockouts. So
- 19:17Speaker 8: like if we get one or two of those a game,
- 19:19Speaker 8: we just got to live with that, because you know,
- 19:21Speaker 8: it's hard to win when teams are getting a large
- 19:23Speaker 8: percentage of their missus back. You know, you saw the game,
- 19:27Speaker 8: like Tennessee's a really big, good offensive rebounding team. They
- 19:31Speaker 8: were able to get some offense rebounds on us, and
- 19:32Speaker 8: a lot of times we're blocking out pretty good. You
- 19:35Speaker 8: can live with some of those, but you know, you
- 19:39Speaker 8: can't live with four guys doing one thing and then
- 19:42Speaker 8: one guy opus. I just I just had a moment
- 19:45Speaker 8: where I lost my focus and it kills everybody.
- 19:50Speaker 15: When it when when it comes to Rashawn too talked
- 19:53Speaker 15: about the vocal nature of him on the court.
- 19:55Speaker 4: Just how do you see him channel that in a
- 19:57Speaker 4: in a good way or a right way that.
- 20:00Speaker 15: It you know, it doesn't overcome him or he's able
- 20:04Speaker 15: to channel that properly.
- 20:06Speaker 8: He's just a veteran, you know, like he knows like uh,
- 20:10Speaker 8: like he knows that he's that he's got to playoff
- 20:14Speaker 8: intensity and not just the emotion of the game. And
- 20:17Speaker 8: so even though he can have emotion, he's constantly has
- 20:20Speaker 8: the right intensity. He doesn't let He's not gonna let
- 20:24Speaker 8: like a refs call take him out of the next play.
- 20:26Speaker 8: He's not gonna let some like deal going on with
- 20:29Speaker 8: another player take him out of his game. He's a veteran, right,
- 20:33Speaker 8: He's not a kid. And you know, therefore he's playing
- 20:37Speaker 8: better and better veteran basketball and good basketball.
- 20:41Speaker 14: I know it's a game after but how much were
- 20:43Speaker 14: y'all as y'all kind of start scout on Alabama looking
- 20:46Speaker 14: at the Chris Endeco situation, if you would be available
- 20:50Speaker 14: or not.
- 20:50Speaker 10: For that game.
- 20:52Speaker 8: I mean, I'm just assuming that he that all the
- 20:54Speaker 8: players are playing now, are playing until we hear otherwise,
- 20:57Speaker 8: you know, so you know, I mean, you know, you
- 21:01Speaker 8: watch your team play all year long. I will say this.
- 21:04Speaker 8: I think I mentioned this before. You think a lot
- 21:05Speaker 8: of things as a coach, and then I never in
- 21:08Speaker 8: a million years, Saul, would they gets betioco.
- 21:10Speaker 16: You know.
- 21:11Speaker 8: So that's not saying right wrong or and different. I'm
- 21:13Speaker 8: just saying it's just funny that that that that questions asked.
- 21:16Speaker 8: You know what I'm saying. But obviously they're a good team,
- 21:19Speaker 8: good players, well coached, got guards, got bigs and bigs
- 21:24Speaker 8: and even more bigs now, and tough on their home floor.
- 21:27Speaker 8: So got to focus on what we got to do,
- 21:30Speaker 8: which is going to be defending those guys, particularly even
- 21:33Speaker 8: though he's a good player, they're really their guards or
- 21:36Speaker 8: elite guards, and you got to be able to guard
- 21:38Speaker 8: them and just not let them live in the paint
- 21:40Speaker 8: all night.
- 21:41Speaker 1: You know, Ruben talked about your preaching championship level effort
- 21:45Speaker 1: from your vantage point, have you seen that guy's kind
- 21:47Speaker 1: of live that as you guys call your stride here
- 21:49Speaker 1: in conference play?
- 21:50Speaker 8: Yeah, I think we play really hard. We got to
- 21:52Speaker 8: continue to to let that be our identity. It's just
- 21:57Speaker 8: playing hard and unselfish, you know. And you can't take
- 22:00Speaker 8: a practice off because like playing hard as a habit,
- 22:04Speaker 8: and if you allow that habit to slip, then you
- 22:08Speaker 8: won't be playing hard. And you'll see a lot of
- 22:10Speaker 8: teams as you go through the season where they may
- 22:13Speaker 8: be playing harder earlier in the year than later. We
- 22:15Speaker 8: want to be playing hard throughout. But if anything, if
- 22:18Speaker 8: it's a habit, your habit should be greater and greater
- 22:20Speaker 8: and greater. That you should be able to look at
- 22:22Speaker 8: tape and say, man, the hardest we ever played was
- 22:24Speaker 8: our last game, because we built that habit up so
- 22:27Speaker 8: much that that our identity became stronger and stronger, not
- 22:31Speaker 8: the reverse. We dang sure don't want to look like
- 22:33Speaker 8: a withered team that's ready for spring break, right. We
- 22:37Speaker 8: want to look like a team that you know, I
- 22:39Speaker 8: always say the teams that are having the most fun
- 22:42Speaker 8: where they refuse to let go of the rope. And
- 22:44Speaker 8: as you approach you know, selection Sunday towards the end
- 22:48Speaker 8: of the year, we want everyone to look at our
- 22:50Speaker 8: group and say, man, those guys they love playing with
- 22:52Speaker 8: each other, have a joy when they play, and they're
- 22:55Speaker 8: playing their best basketball. One more onmer Sean.
- 22:58Speaker 15: Just for all the impact that he's had on your
- 23:00Speaker 15: team this season, is there a game or performance that
- 23:03Speaker 15: you look at that you go that's the epitome of Rashaan.
- 23:06Speaker 8: A g There's just so many, I mean, just just
- 23:12Speaker 8: so just so many big plays he's made late in
- 23:16Speaker 8: the game. I mean, I will say, you know, I
- 23:18Speaker 8: remember the L s U game. This play sticks out
- 23:21Speaker 8: to me because he obviously is battling these guys, he's rebounding,
- 23:25Speaker 8: he's scoring. But then we come out of it deal
- 23:28Speaker 8: we drop a play for Ruben where he's gonna to
- 23:29Speaker 8: like thread a ball through a needle for Ruben to
- 23:31Speaker 8: get a three to pretty much ice the game. And
- 23:34Speaker 8: I mean he takes it as a big and he
- 23:36Speaker 8: kind of backs up and throws a left handed hook
- 23:39Speaker 8: pass across the floor into the dead corner on the
- 23:42Speaker 8: money and just strokes it. And you know that that
- 23:46Speaker 8: just goes to show you, like how versatile this player is.
- 23:49Speaker 8: And then the other thing that sticks out to me
- 23:50Speaker 8: was even though in the first half of Tennessee he
- 23:53Speaker 8: mainly got like one or two shots, but that dude
- 23:56Speaker 8: was battling those monsters for Tennessee, like he was a
- 24:00Speaker 8: literally just fighting so hard down there on defense and
- 24:04Speaker 8: just like, look, man, this is what it is. It's
- 24:06Speaker 8: just a wrestling match. I may have to rest them
- 24:09Speaker 8: on offense just to just so I can continue to
- 24:12Speaker 8: do this. And you know that just who he is,
- 24:16Speaker 8: he understands what the game calls for. Appreciate you guys.
- 24:21Speaker 3: All right, that's Bucky earlier today previewing the Aggies matchup
- 24:26Speaker 3: with the Georgia Bulldogs, which will be on Saturday at noon.
- 24:30Speaker 3: You can listen on sixteen twenty WTAW Flagship at Aggie
- 24:35Speaker 3: Athletics and our sister station. And that Georgia game is
- 24:40Speaker 3: gonna kick off a pretty tough stretch of games for
- 24:42Speaker 3: the Aggies in the back half of this SEC schedule,
- 24:46Speaker 3: back to back road games at Georgia on Saturday and
- 24:50Speaker 3: then at Alabama next Wednesday. That's a six pm game,
- 24:56Speaker 3: both of those on SEC Network. So both of these
- 24:58Speaker 3: games gonna be pretty interesting to see how the Aggie
- 25:01Speaker 3: stack up against some of the tougher teams in the SEC.
- 25:05Speaker 3: Texas A and M is fortieth in the NET rankings
- 25:09Speaker 3: and Georgia is thirty fourth, So I think I think
- 25:12Speaker 3: these are you know, a couple of pretty comparable teams.
- 25:16Speaker 3: Georgia is coming off of that loss to Tennessee in
- 25:21Speaker 3: overtime yesterday eighty six to eighty five. So both of
- 25:26Speaker 3: these teams have lost to Tennessee in overtime. Not too
- 25:29Speaker 3: often you can say something like that, And it was
- 25:34Speaker 3: that one was close all the way through, a real
- 25:37Speaker 3: back and forth game, a lot of lead changes, and
- 25:42Speaker 3: you know, I think those are two of pretty That's
- 25:45Speaker 3: a pretty good gauge of where you're at in the SEC.
- 25:49Speaker 5: Yeah, it's definitely a defining stretch.
- 25:52Speaker 3: Yeah, After those two back to back road games, the
- 25:56Speaker 3: Aggies will go on to face Florida at home home,
- 26:00Speaker 3: which is going to be a huge matchup the reigning
- 26:03Speaker 3: national champions in Reed Arena. That is next Saturday, February seventh,
- 26:11Speaker 3: and then Missouri at Vanderbilt, will miss at home, at Oklahoma,
- 26:17Speaker 3: at Arkansas, Texas at home, Kentucky at home, and at
- 26:21Speaker 3: LSU to finish out the regular season on March seventh.
- 26:26Speaker 3: So definitely a lot tougher back half of the schedule
- 26:30Speaker 3: than the front.
- 26:31Speaker 4: Half of SEC play was.
- 26:32Speaker 3: But you know, I think this Aggie team is built
- 26:36Speaker 3: to withstand it and we only need probably three or
- 26:39Speaker 3: four wins and that locks up a tournament spot. So
- 26:42Speaker 3: not playing with just a ton of pressure, and it'll
- 26:44Speaker 3: be interesting to see what Bucky ball can do.
- 26:47Speaker 5: That's true, it's definitely not out of reach. I think
- 26:51Speaker 5: it's pretty manageable. You know, you can break even, but
- 26:55Speaker 5: you really don't even have to break even. You can
- 26:58Speaker 5: have a losing record over the stretch still put together
- 27:01Speaker 5: a good SEC you know performance.
- 27:06Speaker 3: Yeah, eleven games left, so as long as they go
- 27:08Speaker 3: three and eight, I think they'd be in the tournament.
- 27:09Speaker 3: I think they're capable of much more than that. Of course,
- 27:13Speaker 3: the Aggie's currently leading the SEC with a six and
- 27:16Speaker 3: one conference record, Arkansas and Florida both a half game
- 27:19Speaker 3: back at six and two, and the Aggis also lead
- 27:23Speaker 3: the SEC in a couple of other stats assists per game,
- 27:27Speaker 3: points per game off the bench, and turnovers forced per game,
- 27:32Speaker 3: so they are in the top three of a lot
- 27:34Speaker 3: of key statistics. Their second in threes made and threes attempted,
- 27:40Speaker 3: which makes sense, and their third and overall points per game.
- 27:45Speaker 3: So this is one of the most exciting teams to watch.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Might not be the best overall talent wise, but definitely
- 27:52Speaker 3: very exciting. An interesting stat that I saw on Twitter
- 27:57Speaker 3: earlier today in games immediate after playing Texas A and M,
- 28:02Speaker 3: their opponents have followed that up with a three and
- 28:05Speaker 3: seventeen record.
- 28:06Speaker 4: And one and six in conference play. So what does
- 28:09Speaker 4: that mean? Pretty clearly, bucket ball wears teams out.
- 28:13Speaker 3: So I think in tournament play, if we get to
- 28:17Speaker 3: the Big Dance, it's going to be really difficult for
- 28:20Speaker 3: teams to play back to back really tough games and
- 28:23Speaker 3: follow up with not having a whole lot of preparation
- 28:26Speaker 3: to take on this Texas A and M team is
- 28:28Speaker 3: going to be really difficult for teams to adjust to.
- 28:31Speaker 3: I think, so really excited to see what the boys
- 28:35Speaker 3: can do. We're going to take a quick break and
- 28:37Speaker 3: then we'll come back with the high school report. You're

- 31:19Speaker 4: I'm welcome into the High School Report.
- 31:29Speaker 3: I'm Kayla Brapley and joining me today on the plais
- 31:32Speaker 3: Fun Center Phone line is the head coach of the
- 31:35Speaker 3: Montgomery Bears boys basketball team. Mister Jake McDonald, coach, thanks
- 31:38Speaker 3: for joining me.
- 31:39Speaker 12: Today, Yes, sir, I appreciate you having.
- 31:41Speaker 4: Me, absolutely so.
- 31:43Speaker 3: Montgomery definitely in the thick of a district title fight,
- 31:47Speaker 3: a lot of solid teams in that district and all
- 31:50Speaker 3: really close together. Your Bears seventeen and twelve on the
- 31:53Speaker 3: season so far. So how would you gauge the performance?
- 31:57Speaker 13: Oh man, it's been a how you described it as
- 32:01Speaker 13: exactly what it is, A bunch of really good teams,
- 32:03Speaker 13: a bunch of really close games. You know, we've had
- 32:07Speaker 13: I think five of our six district games have been
- 32:12Speaker 13: one or two possession games. But as far as the
- 32:15Speaker 13: year as a whole, you know, just like everybody else,
- 32:18Speaker 13: we've had ups and down, but you know, we've been
- 32:21Speaker 13: on the right side of things a few more times,
- 32:25Speaker 13: which is a good thing.
- 32:27Speaker 3: And I noticed from last year it seemed like it
- 32:30Speaker 3: was a really senior heavy squad, so had to replace
- 32:33Speaker 3: a lot of those contributors from last season. Who are
- 32:36Speaker 3: some of the players that have stepped up to fill
- 32:38Speaker 3: those roles this year?
- 32:39Speaker 12: Yeah, you're exactly right.
- 32:41Speaker 13: We graduated ten guys.
- 32:43Speaker 12: It was a really good senior class for US.
- 32:45Speaker 13: But we've we have had guys step up, you know,
- 32:48Speaker 13: a couple of them we're on the team. Last year
- 32:51Speaker 13: Amari Hatchett was a starter for US and a and
- 32:55Speaker 13: a really good player. And then Lucas Cornell and Mason
- 32:58Speaker 13: McMurray both played, uh you know, kind of roll minutes
- 33:02Speaker 13: for us.
- 33:02Speaker 12: And then Chase Sheely was.
- 33:03Speaker 13: A guy that was he was up and down, but
- 33:06Speaker 13: he's really really really stepped up.
- 33:09Speaker 8: Uh.
- 33:09Speaker 13: You know, he had thirty point game last Thursday on
- 33:12Speaker 13: the road. Uh, you know, and he's right hovering right
- 33:15Speaker 13: around that twenty point game mark.
- 33:16Speaker 12: And you know, several other guys.
- 33:19Speaker 13: We've we've got a young man, uh sophomore uh named
- 33:24Speaker 13: Devandre Walker. He's been really good for us. He started
- 33:28Speaker 13: I believe twenty seven of the of the twenty nine
- 33:32Speaker 13: games and uh pretty pretty close to a double double
- 33:35Speaker 13: for us.
- 33:36Speaker 12: And you know, Cashing, m J. Elevanny, they do a
- 33:40Speaker 12: great job for us.
- 33:41Speaker 13: And uh, we've got a couple of other seniors, Trey Bradd,
- 33:44Speaker 13: Jacob King, Ronson Wodell uh kind of still out our roster,
- 33:48Speaker 13: but everybody's kind of contributed. That's been the cool thing.
- 33:53Speaker 13: You know, we can we can really have I know
- 33:55Speaker 13: for a fact, we've had five different leading scorers in
- 33:58Speaker 13: games this year, so it's been all hands on deck.
- 34:02Speaker 3: So what would you say are some of the team's
- 34:03Speaker 3: biggest strengths and weaknesses now that you've you know, gotten
- 34:05Speaker 3: to know what these players are as compared to last year.
- 34:09Speaker 13: Yeah, well, I mean, I would say the athleticism and
- 34:13Speaker 13: physicality from Mote, from you know, almost all these teams
- 34:18Speaker 13: is really high, U A and m consolidated Brenham Huntsville,
- 34:25Speaker 13: those guys are so athletic, so physical, And then you
- 34:28Speaker 13: know other end of the spectrum, you've got Lake Creek
- 34:31Speaker 13: who's really really really skilled and they do everything well.
- 34:35Speaker 13: And College Station kind of same thing, Uh, really skilled,
- 34:40Speaker 13: really kind of intentional and deliberate and the way they play,
- 34:45Speaker 13: and and Rudders, you know, they're young and they're scrappy.
- 34:48Speaker 13: They're very scrappy as well.
- 34:50Speaker 3: So didn't have any games over the weekend, as you know,
- 34:53Speaker 3: most of the most of the state was taking the
- 34:57Speaker 3: weekend off, not wanting to play, having brave the storm
- 35:01Speaker 3: with the travel. But do have a game with Brenham
- 35:04Speaker 3: coming up, So what are your expectations for that one.
- 35:07Speaker 13: You know, we played them over there January second. It's
- 35:10Speaker 13: one point game and we trailed most of the night
- 35:14Speaker 13: and we're fortunate to get out of there with a win.
- 35:17Speaker 13: But their coach does a coach, Andrews does a great job.
- 35:20Speaker 13: And you know, they've got some really good players. Like
- 35:22Speaker 13: I said, they're gonna they're gonna get after you defensively
- 35:24Speaker 13: and then you know, offensively, it's it's kind of a
- 35:28Speaker 13: track meet with those guys because they can really get
- 35:30Speaker 13: up and down. So you know, we'll just have to
- 35:32Speaker 13: make sure we take care of the ball and and
- 35:34Speaker 13: make those guys earn it in.
- 35:35Speaker 12: The half court.
- 35:36Speaker 4: So we've established that.
- 35:38Speaker 3: You know, this district, there's a lot of teams with
- 35:40Speaker 3: a lot of very similar talent. All the top five
- 35:44Speaker 3: in the district are all within two games of first place.
- 35:47Speaker 3: So how how different is it in a year like
- 35:50Speaker 3: this where everybody's so close together every week you got
- 35:52Speaker 3: to bring your a game. How different is it compared
- 35:54Speaker 3: to some years where the talent's a little more spread out.
- 35:57Speaker 13: Well, I would just say it's it's kind of a
- 35:59Speaker 13: kudos to to the coaching in the district. I think
- 36:02Speaker 13: everybody's coached really well and kind of like you said,
- 36:07Speaker 13: if you if you don't bring it every night, there
- 36:10Speaker 13: is no uh, you almost get beat or you know,
- 36:14Speaker 13: there is none of that. If you don't bring it,
- 36:16Speaker 13: you get beat.
- 36:16Speaker 14: Uh.
- 36:17Speaker 13: And obviously in a district race, it's as tight as ours,
- 36:21Speaker 13: you know, win winsor or so valuable. So you know,
- 36:25Speaker 13: I think everybody kind of knows that. So I think
- 36:27Speaker 13: that probably creates the battles we've been having as everybody
- 36:31Speaker 13: knows how valuable and precious, Uh, these district games are
- 36:35Speaker 13: with the narrow, narrow margin between the teams.
- 36:40Speaker 3: So after Brenham, you got four district games, remaining, three
- 36:43Speaker 3: of those on the road. What are your expectations for
- 36:45Speaker 3: the home stretch of the season and then maybe going
- 36:48Speaker 3: into postseason?
- 36:49Speaker 13: Yes, no, I mean all those games are tough games,
- 36:52Speaker 13: you know, and you know, you got to figure out
- 36:56Speaker 13: a way to steal a couple on the road and
- 36:58Speaker 13: uh kind of hold serve at home, and you know,
- 37:01Speaker 13: you know, playing postseason basketball, you know, is almost a
- 37:07Speaker 13: I mean, this is only a year three for me,
- 37:08Speaker 13: but we want it to be the expectation and the norm.
- 37:12Speaker 13: So you know, if we want that to take place.
- 37:14Speaker 13: We've got to We've got to figure figure out a
- 37:16Speaker 13: way to protect home court and still a couple on
- 37:18Speaker 13: the road and play our best basketball, you.
- 37:20Speaker 12: Know, in in late January early February.
- 37:22Speaker 4: All right, coach, Well that's all I've got for you.
- 37:24Speaker 3: I appreciate your time today and wish your bears luck

- 39:00Speaker 4: Again to coach McDonald for joining me on the high
- 39:02Speaker 4: school report.
- 39:04Speaker 21: You still look black in dang quick, Jill.
- 39:07Speaker 3: MLB news came out recently the Cleveland Guardians have signed
- 39:12Speaker 3: a third basement Jose Ramirez to a seven year contract extension,
- 39:15Speaker 3: so that's through the twenty thirty two season. Jose Ramirez
- 39:21Speaker 3: has perennially been one of you know, the most underrated
- 39:25Speaker 3: players in baseball. But you know, I think having a
- 39:27Speaker 3: big contract like this and he's pretty highly rated on
- 39:31Speaker 3: everybody's you know, top one hundred preseason things that they
- 39:33Speaker 3: like to do.
- 39:34Speaker 15: Uh.
- 39:34Speaker 3: I think we can now say that Jose Ramirez is
- 39:37Speaker 3: not underrated. And I know, Trey, you have no idea
- 39:39Speaker 3: what I'm talking about right now. Nope, do you even
- 39:41Speaker 3: know who Jose Ramirez is.
- 39:43Speaker 5: A baseball player? Oh, Guardians, good.
- 39:46Speaker 4: Job with the contact clues there.
- 39:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I'd say he's probably one of the best third
- 39:51Speaker 3: basement in baseball. Hit thirty homers last year with the
- 39:53Speaker 3: two eighty three batting average. He has two hundred and
- 39:56Speaker 3: eighty five career homers.
- 39:59Speaker 4: And he is only.
- 40:02Speaker 3: Thirty four or he'll be turning thirty four this season,
- 40:06Speaker 3: so pretty solid stats. You don't see a whole lot
- 40:11Speaker 3: of players get to the three hundred four hundred homer marks,
- 40:15Speaker 3: and he is in line to do that, to do
- 40:18Speaker 3: that this season if he stays healthy. Every year since
- 40:22Speaker 3: twenty seventeen he has had at least seventeen homers, and
- 40:27Speaker 3: the seventeen homer season was in twenty twenty when they
- 40:29Speaker 3: were only fifty eight games.
- 40:31Speaker 5: It's almost ten years, it's almost a decade.
- 40:33Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 40:34Speaker 3: Yeah, he's one of the most consistent players in the league.
- 40:36Speaker 3: I think it was a really good move by Cleveland
- 40:38Speaker 3: locking him up. And they're not usually a team that
- 40:40Speaker 3: spends a lot of money, So happy to see that,
- 40:43Speaker 3: Happy to see somebody other other than.
- 40:45Speaker 4: The Dodgers spend some money.
- 40:47Speaker 3: We're gonna take another break and we'll be back with
- 40:49Speaker 3: more sports talk right after this.

- 42:20Speaker 3: Rapley here filling in for Chip Howard on this Thursday afternoon.
- 42:24Speaker 4: As Highway six has not.
- 42:26Speaker 3: Started to get clogged up yet, we are not quite
- 42:29Speaker 3: at quitting time, but the traffic is getting there as
- 42:32Speaker 3: it usually is. We're gonna spend this segment with a
- 42:36Speaker 3: little bit of NFL talk. There is one player in
- 42:39Speaker 3: the Super Bowl that has a chance to join the
- 42:42Speaker 3: multiple Super Bowl MVP's club. The members of that club
- 42:46Speaker 3: currently are Tom Brady with five, Patrick Mahomes with three,
- 42:50Speaker 3: Joe Montana with three, and then two each for Terry Bradshaw,
- 42:53Speaker 3: Eli Manning and Bart Starr Trey. Do you know the
- 42:56Speaker 3: one player that will be playing in the game that
- 42:58Speaker 3: has a chance to get his seconds Super Bowl MVP?
- 43:06Speaker 3: It's neither of the quarterbacks. Which team are the Seahawks? Okay,
- 43:11Speaker 3: and it's obviously not Sam Darnold Cup.
- 43:14Speaker 4: It is Cooper Cup. That's some ball knowledge there.
- 43:17Speaker 3: Cooper Cup won it when the Rams beat the Bengals
- 43:21Speaker 3: in the Super Bowl. Two touchdown catches in that game
- 43:27Speaker 3: for Cup and has a shot to win his second.
- 43:31Speaker 3: I think he would be the first. I think he'd
- 43:33Speaker 3: be the only non quarterback to have multiple Super Bowl
- 43:36Speaker 3: MVPs if he's able to pull that off, So that
- 43:38Speaker 3: would be a pretty impressive stat Yeah.
- 43:40Speaker 5: I don't really see him winning it over JSN.
- 43:43Speaker 4: No, Well, it just depends, you know.
- 43:46Speaker 3: I mean, Christian Kirk had a big game in the
- 43:48Speaker 3: Texans win over the Steelers earlier in the playoffs, so
- 43:51Speaker 3: you never you never really know, and Cooper Cup is
- 43:54Speaker 3: definitely a player that's capable of having a huge game
- 43:58Speaker 3: like that out of nowhere.
- 44:00Speaker 5: I also think they're kind of milking the Sam Donald
- 44:04Speaker 5: redemption story.
- 44:05Speaker 4: So yeah, I think I mean win it.
- 44:06Speaker 5: It's probably gonna be Donald.
- 44:09Speaker 4: As long as he doesn't you know, thir or three
- 44:10Speaker 4: picks or something. Yeah.
- 44:11Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, So neither of these teams. I wasn't rooting
- 44:16Speaker 3: for them, but I'm not mad about it. I mean,
- 44:19Speaker 3: I know, the Patriots just had a huge dynasty, so
- 44:22Speaker 3: you know, you'd prefer to have some new blood. But
- 44:24Speaker 3: this feels like new blood because it's not Belichick or Brady,
- 44:28Speaker 3: it's Mike Rabel and Drake May who are much more
- 44:30Speaker 3: likable in my opinion, So I wouldn't hate to see
- 44:32Speaker 3: them win one and then having the Sam Donald redemption
- 44:35Speaker 3: story would be really cool. And former Aggie coach Clint
- 44:41Speaker 3: Kubiak is on that coaching staff for the Seahawks, So
- 44:46Speaker 3: I think I'm probably if I had to pick one,
- 44:48Speaker 3: I think I would go with the Seahawks, and it
- 44:50Speaker 3: would be cool to see them get redemption for their
- 44:53Speaker 3: massive blunder.
- 44:54Speaker 20: Right.
- 44:54Speaker 4: Imagine this in Super Bowl forty seven, maybe.
- 44:58Speaker 5: Something like fourth quarter. Patriots are in the lead, the
- 45:01Speaker 5: Seahawks are driving, they get all the way down to
- 45:04Speaker 5: the goal line. Do they run it or do they
- 45:06Speaker 5: throw it?
- 45:09Speaker 4: You know, it'd be whatever happens, it would be really
- 45:12Speaker 4: really funny.
- 45:13Speaker 5: Imagine this time they run the ball they should have
- 45:16Speaker 5: and they get stuck. Yeah, I think that is that'd
- 45:18Speaker 5: be cinema.
- 45:20Speaker 3: That would definitely be the funniest outcome for sure. So
- 45:24Speaker 3: some of the free agents that are available in the NFL,
- 45:28Speaker 3: ESPN released their top fifty list and number one is
- 45:32Speaker 3: a player that's had a lot of contract disputes recently
- 45:36Speaker 3: over this past offseason, wasn't even sure if he was
- 45:39Speaker 3: going to play the first couple weeks. Trey Hendrickson Bengals
- 45:43Speaker 3: defensive end one of the best. Yeah, well that he
- 45:47Speaker 3: wasn't a free agent. Then that was the final of
- 45:50Speaker 3: his previous contract and the Bengals are terrible at contract negotiations,
- 45:57Speaker 3: so he almost didn't play. But he's one of the
- 45:58Speaker 3: best ed rushers in the league seventeen and a half
- 46:02Speaker 3: sacks back in twenty twenty four, only played seven games
- 46:05Speaker 3: this year, had four sacks, so any team. He would
- 46:11Speaker 3: be an upgrade for any team on the defensive line
- 46:15Speaker 3: unless the year of the Browns, and then he'd be
- 46:17Speaker 3: your second best defensive ed dresher, But pretty much anybody
- 46:21Speaker 3: else you would be the probably the most disruptive force
- 46:24Speaker 3: on your team. George Pickens is also a free agent.
- 46:26Speaker 3: Oh no, I know Cowboys fans hate to hear that.
- 46:30Speaker 5: That's terrible.
- 46:30Speaker 3: He was third in the NFL this year with one
- 46:33Speaker 3: thy four hundred and twenty nine receiving yards. He could
- 46:35Speaker 3: be franchise tagged though, which I mean seems pretty likely.
- 46:39Speaker 3: He'll only be twenty five going into next season, so
- 46:42Speaker 3: Cowboys are probably gonna want to hold on to him.
- 46:44Speaker 5: If they can't perform CD.
- 46:45Speaker 3: Didn't he Yeah, no, he was third in the NFL,
- 46:48Speaker 3: so it was he can't let him go. A huge
- 46:50Speaker 3: season for him, for him and that if if the
- 46:55Speaker 3: Cowboys can, you know, keep him. That's one of the
- 46:58Speaker 3: best receiving corps in the league. Just with him and CD,
- 47:01Speaker 3: it doesn't matter who else you got. You can't really,
- 47:03Speaker 3: you can't double team them both. Another interesting name on
- 47:07Speaker 3: here Daniel Jones after his redemption arc with the Colts
- 47:12Speaker 3: this year before his Achilles injury, so that could have
- 47:16Speaker 3: that could impact what kind of deal he gets if
- 47:18Speaker 3: teams are worried about his availability at the beginning of
- 47:21Speaker 3: next year. But it just goes to show you that
- 47:25Speaker 3: when quarterbacks get out of New York. They usually tend
- 47:28Speaker 3: to do pretty good. I mean, we've seen it twice
- 47:30Speaker 3: now with Daniel Jones.
- 47:31Speaker 4: And Sam Darnold, one of them in the Super Bowl.
- 47:34Speaker 3: And if Daniel Jones didn't get hurt, the Colts could
- 47:36Speaker 3: be in the super Bowl and they were one of
- 47:37Speaker 3: the hottest teams in football.
- 47:39Speaker 5: I really hope he doesn't sign somewhere other than India.
- 47:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I would be cool with that. I
- 47:44Speaker 3: think the Colts would do good to commit to him.
- 47:49Speaker 3: I know they still have Anthony Richardson, or maybe they
- 47:51Speaker 3: just you know, throw him like a two year deal
- 47:54Speaker 3: and keep richesding around see if.
- 47:55Speaker 4: He will develop a little bit.
- 47:56Speaker 3: But Jones looks to be probably I think this is
- 48:00Speaker 3: the highest level he's ever gonna play at. He'll be
- 48:02Speaker 3: twenty nine going into next year, so I think he's
- 48:04Speaker 3: got a couple more years of top tier performance from
- 48:07Speaker 3: him and then he'll start going downhill. But yeah, I
- 48:11Speaker 3: think any team I know, I know there are a
- 48:14Speaker 3: lot of teams looking for a quarterback. Maybe the Cardinals
- 48:17Speaker 3: go get them with the no head coach that they
- 48:20Speaker 3: currently have. Maybe the Giants try to bring him back up.
- 48:22Speaker 4: Just kidding, Jackson, Dirt Jackson. That would be really funny.
- 48:28Speaker 3: The best, the best situation from a fans perspective would
- 48:34Speaker 3: be he goes to the Jets. That would be the
- 48:37Speaker 3: funniest for sure, going back to New York. But for
- 48:40Speaker 3: the other team, I really hope that doesn't happen for
- 48:43Speaker 3: his sake. Speaking of the Jets, Brice Hall running back
- 48:47Speaker 3: as a free agent as well. He has averaged ninety
- 48:52Speaker 3: total yards per game throughout his career. You know, he's
- 48:55Speaker 3: one of the more versatile players in the league. Really
- 48:58Speaker 3: good pass catcher out of the backfield. Some other names
- 49:03Speaker 3: that we've got on here Alec Pierce receiver, also from
- 49:08Speaker 3: the Colts. You know, he's shown big playability.
- 49:13Speaker 14: Uh.
- 49:13Speaker 3: He topped the one thousand yard receiving mark this year
- 49:16Speaker 3: along with six touchdowns, which was, you know, his best
- 49:19Speaker 3: year by far. I remember a couple of years ago,
- 49:22Speaker 3: I think it was Anthony Richardon's senior uh not senior
- 49:25Speaker 3: Anthony Richardson's rookie year, and I was the first time
- 49:29Speaker 3: I heard Pierce's name, and it was because he had
- 49:32Speaker 3: two like seventy yard catches and nothing else across three games.
- 49:36Speaker 4: So he's always been a known big play threat. But
- 49:40Speaker 4: this year he you know, put together some consistency.
- 49:45Speaker 5: Yeah, going back to Bresee Hall. If you're the Jets
- 49:48Speaker 5: and you don't resign him, what are we doing? I mean,
- 49:52Speaker 5: gott to just be restarting.
- 49:53Speaker 3: I think they should have traded. I think they should
- 49:55Speaker 3: have traded for something, get some draft picks.
- 49:57Speaker 5: What did they get for Sauce Gardner? They traded enough,
- 50:00Speaker 5: they didn't really get anything back.
- 50:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I just don't feel like defensive players demand quite
- 50:06Speaker 3: as much draft pick wise. I think a running back
- 50:11Speaker 3: in his prime, you know, I mean, running backs also
- 50:15Speaker 3: don't get paid a whole lot.
- 50:16Speaker 4: So it's kind of hard to say, but it'll be interesting.
- 50:21Speaker 3: Some other free agents Mike Evans on the free agent
- 50:24Speaker 3: market again. Only played eight games this year, which was
- 50:28Speaker 3: the first time in his career that he did not
- 50:31Speaker 3: top the one thousand yard receiving mark. He had eleven
- 50:35Speaker 3: years in a row entering twenty twenty five, but couldn't
- 50:38Speaker 3: do it. As you know, injuries kept him out most
- 50:41Speaker 3: of the season. But he's a great red zone option,
- 50:43Speaker 3: I mean, big target he chose. Mike Evans is still
- 50:47Speaker 3: a great football player if he can stay healthy.
- 50:48Speaker 5: He was on my fantasy team, and of course this
- 50:52Speaker 5: is the one year he didn't perform as high, the
- 50:56Speaker 5: one year I have him on my team. Yeah. Right.
- 51:00Speaker 3: The quarterback class this year is you know, it's interesting
- 51:04Speaker 3: that the draft, the quarterbacks in the draft, and the
- 51:07Speaker 3: quarterbacks in free agency not not super strong. Daniel Jones
- 51:14Speaker 3: was the highest ranked on ESPN's list. The next highest
- 51:17Speaker 3: quarterback Malik Willis, who spent his season backing up Jordan Love.
- 51:21Speaker 5: Isn't that the Packers back?
- 51:23Speaker 21: Yes?
- 51:24Speaker 3: Uh, he will be twenty seven years old going into
- 51:26Speaker 3: the twenty twenty sixth season. He's still young, still room
- 51:30Speaker 3: for development. He's looked pretty good when he's got when
- 51:33Speaker 3: he's got starts for Green Bay at least.
- 51:35Speaker 5: Right, he reminded me of kind of like a Tyler Huntley.
- 51:38Speaker 5: Wasn't he the raven Yeah, the Ravens backup while and
- 51:41Speaker 5: he kind of performed pretty well.
- 51:43Speaker 14: Well.
- 51:43Speaker 4: Tyler Huntley was just great value of mar Jackson.
- 51:46Speaker 5: Yeah, I agree.
- 51:47Speaker 4: He's the exact same style of quarterback, just not as good.
- 51:51Speaker 3: Travis Etn another free agent running back, pretty solid, versatile
- 51:59Speaker 3: running back, somewhere to Breeze Hall, just you know, not
- 52:02Speaker 3: quite that level of talent out of Jacksonville. Pretty solid player.
- 52:07Speaker 3: Isaiah Likely Ravens tight end.
- 52:09Speaker 21: Uh.
- 52:10Speaker 3: Most people will remember Isaiah Likely for the the catch
- 52:15Speaker 3: in the back of the end zone against the Chiefs
- 52:16Speaker 3: last year when he his toe was just barely out
- 52:20Speaker 3: of bounds would have won the game. Khalil Mack is
- 52:23Speaker 3: a free agent again. No, Khalil Mack, No, he's not
- 52:28Speaker 3: Naggy who you're thinking of? Defens Dalen Mack.
- 52:33Speaker 4: Yeah, he was good.
- 52:34Speaker 3: I don't know if he's in the NFL anymore. He
- 52:36Speaker 3: was pretty solid for a couple of years. Kyle Pitts
- 52:39Speaker 3: Atlanta Falcons tight end. Fantasy football legend. Kyle Pitts nine
- 52:45Speaker 3: hundred and twenty eight yards and five touchdowns this year,
- 52:48Speaker 3: will be twenty five going into next season, so it's
- 52:51Speaker 3: you know, teams are always looking to upgrade at the
- 52:53Speaker 3: tight end spot. There's only a couple of elite tight
- 52:55Speaker 3: ends in the league, and I think Pitts could be
- 52:57Speaker 3: one of those if he continues on this upward trajectory.
- 53:01Speaker 3: Kenneth Walker after the Super Bowl, the Seahawks running back
- 53:05Speaker 3: will be a free agent. He's been pretty solid this year.
- 53:09Speaker 3: Another Seahawk, Rashid's Shahed, which is always a hard name
- 53:13Speaker 3: to say for me, former Saint Rashid Shahed, another receiver,
- 53:18Speaker 3: Juwan Jennings, receiver Niners. So a lot of receivers and
- 53:22Speaker 3: running backs on the market this year, so teams looking
- 53:25Speaker 3: at yeah, teams looking to upgrade at the skill positions
- 53:30Speaker 3: have a lot of options. So it will be interesting
- 53:32Speaker 3: to see what happens there after the Super Bowl. But
- 53:35Speaker 3: we've still got that game in this season before the
- 53:38Speaker 3: free agency really gets underway.
- 53:41Speaker 4: Do you have a pick for the Super Bowl?
- 53:43Speaker 15: Well?
- 53:44Speaker 5: Was Sam Donald a free agent pickup or was he traded?
- 53:46Speaker 4: He's a free agent.
- 53:47Speaker 5: You know, we're talking about free agents right now, saying
- 53:50Speaker 5: there's not that many good people on the market, like
- 53:53Speaker 5: quarterback wise. But Sam Donald now he's in the Super Bowl.
- 53:57Speaker 3: Well, okay, Sam Donald was coming off of that really
- 53:59Speaker 3: good year the Vikings. Though I don't know if I
- 54:02Speaker 3: don't know if i'd say Daniel Jones Colts year was
- 54:04Speaker 3: as good as Sam.
- 54:05Speaker 4: Darnold Vikings year.
- 54:07Speaker 3: My super Bowl pick, which I mean, we still got
- 54:11Speaker 3: another week and a half to think about it. I
- 54:14Speaker 3: always forget that there's that bye week in between conference
- 54:17Speaker 3: championships and the Super Bowl.
- 54:18Speaker 5: I know, the new England's defense is very good, but
- 54:22Speaker 5: so Seattle's obviously hasn't. Drake May kind of had a
- 54:26Speaker 5: lower performance playoffs.
- 54:28Speaker 3: Well, they've also had to play in a lot of weather.
- 54:31Speaker 3: Against the Broncos. You know, that game was really sloppy.
- 54:35Speaker 3: Ten to seven was the final score there. But in
- 54:39Speaker 3: the playoffs May has thrown for two hundred and sixty
- 54:42Speaker 3: eight yards against the Chargers, one hundred and seventy nine
- 54:45Speaker 3: yards and three touchdowns against the Texans, and then against Denver,
- 54:49Speaker 3: like I said, he only threw for eighty six yards,
- 54:51Speaker 3: no touchdowns, no interceptions. So the team didn't really need
- 54:55Speaker 3: him to do a whole lot though, to be fair,
- 54:58Speaker 3: and he's always you know, true we did in the
- 55:01Speaker 3: ground game. He's got one hundred and forty one yards
- 55:04Speaker 3: across the three games in the playoffs, and that one
- 55:07Speaker 3: touchdown which was the Patriots only touchdown against the Broncos
- 55:11Speaker 3: on I think it was like a six yard run
- 55:12Speaker 3: for him. So he's he's a really dangerous dual threat quarterback.
- 55:17Speaker 3: I think he is the better quarterback in this game.
- 55:20Speaker 3: I don't know if he'll play better just because Donald
- 55:23Speaker 3: does have more experience, he's got more weapons, I feel like,
- 55:26Speaker 3: oh yeah, I could see that Jackson, I mean Jackson
- 55:30Speaker 3: Smith and Jigba, Cooper Cup, Kenneth Walker.
- 55:34Speaker 4: That's a pretty solid skill position group there for Donald.
- 55:37Speaker 4: So we'll be interesting to see.
- 55:40Speaker 3: But you know, there's another week and a half to
- 55:42Speaker 3: talk about that we're not sure going to go to
- 55:43Speaker 3: in depth there. We're gonna take another break and then
