- 0:12Hello, friends. It is Sean.
- 0:14Here it is Monday. It is the 21st of August.
- 0:19And I'm so glad that you have taken this time to invite me
- 0:22into your day, me and Isaiah and thereby God's Word, so that that
- 0:27can flow through your day. And I know you're thinking
- 0:31Isaiah, God's word flowing through my day.
- 0:33Oh, that sounds a little bit ominous.
- 0:35But today is a good day to be reading Isaiah.
- 0:38Today we're going to read the next chapter in this part of
- 0:42Isaiah that's talking about the big stretch of space and time
- 0:46and God's ultimate restoration. And Chapter 24, if you remember
- 0:51last week, was all sorts of judgment and doom and gloom.
- 0:55The chapter 25 is God's restoration.
- 0:58This is Isaiah praising God for how good and faithful he is.
- 1:04And this is going to continue through the next couple of days.
- 1:07And then before the end of the week, we're going to move into
- 1:09some very specific territory where Isaiah is speaking about
- 1:13what's happening to to do that in that time.
- 1:17But we'll get to that. I think that is Thursday.
- 1:19But today, today, we celebrate God and who God is and how
- 1:24faithful and wonderful is. So let's you and me come before
- 1:30God as we hear His words in Isaiah, chapter 25.
- 1:46Oh Lord, I will honor and praise your name, for you are my God.
- 1:52You do such wonderful things. You planned them long ago, and
- 1:57now you have accomplished them. You turn mighty cities into
- 2:02heaps of ruins. Cities with strong walls are
- 2:06turned to rubble. Beautiful palaces in distant
- 2:09lands disappear and will never be rebuilt.
- 2:13Therefore strong nations will declare your glory.
- 2:16Ruthless nations will fear you. But you are a tower of refuge to
- 2:22the poor, oh Lord, a tower of refuge to the needy in distress.
- 2:28You are a refuge from the storm and a shelter from the heat, for
- 2:33the oppressive acts of ruthless people are like a storm beating
- 2:37against a wall or like the relentless heat of the desert.
- 2:42But you silence the roar of foreign nations as the shade of
- 2:46a cloud cools. Relentless heat, so the boastful
- 2:50songs of ruthless people are stilled in Jerusalem.
- 2:55The Lord of Heaven's armies will spread a wonderful feast for all
- 2:59the peoples of the world. It will be a delicious banquet
- 3:03with clear well aged wine and choice meat.
- 3:07There he will remove the cloud of gloom, the shadow of death
- 3:12that hangs over the earth. He will swallow up death
- 3:15forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe
- 3:18away all tears. He will remove forever all
- 3:23insults and mockery against His land and people the Lord has
- 3:27spoken in that day. The people will proclaim This is
- 3:34our God. We trusted in Him and He saved
- 3:37us. This is the Lord in whom we
- 3:41trusted. Let us rejoice in the salvation
- 3:44he brings. For the Lord's hand of blessing
- 3:47will rest on Jerusalem, but Moab will be crushed.
- 3:51It will be like straw trample down and left to rot.
- 3:56God will push down Moab's people as a swimmer pushes down water
- 4:01with his hands. He will end their pride and all
- 4:04their evil works. The high walls of Moab will be
- 4:09demolished. They will be brought down to the
- 4:12ground, down into the dust. What a future you prepare for
- 4:28us, Lord. Here we see this picture painted
- 4:32of your ultimate victory over everything that stands in your
- 4:36way and everything that would oppress us.
- 4:39Your people thank you that you prepare this incredible banquet,
- 4:47this excess, this festivity, this glorious space and time
- 4:52when you will just revel with us in our presence and in your
- 4:57presence. We are so grateful that we do
- 5:03not just live this meager existence to Peter out into
- 5:06nothingness, but that we live as part of your overarching
- 5:11narrative of victory and promise.
- 5:15So we place ourselves in your hands, and we trust that you
- 5:19have our future firmly clasped in your hands.
- 5:24And we celebrate you, our wonderful saving God.
- 5:29And it's in your name, Jesus, that we pray.
- 5:32Amen.
