- 0:01Speaker 1: Coming up. On this week's episode of Hip Hop Now podcast,
- 0:05Speaker 1: ron Fest says Eminem called him the N word during
- 0:08Speaker 1: the rap battle in the nineties, but it was cool.
- 0:11Speaker 1: My thoughts on the new Wu Tang Clan and Mathematics album,
- 0:15Speaker 1: Black Samson, the Bested Swordsman and Nad says, trying to
- 0:21Speaker 1: write a song he could call his favorite is what
- 0:25Speaker 1: keeps him hungry. Hip hop is a spot, but we're
- 0:29Speaker 1: gonna talk about it. Let's do it. Welcome to jip
- 0:35Speaker 1: Hop Now, Pop Fatness, did you from the future? You
- 0:41Speaker 1: know what's do? Show as out of that? Don't disrespect

- 0:52Speaker 1: rightful to the business. What up, y'all? I am your host, Vegas.

- 1:02Speaker 1: to keep you caught up on all things hip hop,
- 1:05Speaker 1: music and culture that happened throughout the week. Big shout
- 1:08Speaker 1: out to the subscribers to this podcast. We have hit
- 1:11Speaker 1: six k, six thousand subscribers to this podcast, so it
- 1:16Speaker 1: doesn't on YouTube, so it doesn't matter if you got
- 1:21Speaker 1: to this podcast through this weekly news and perspectives podcasts,
- 1:27Speaker 1: or any of the specials we've done like recently shout
- 1:31Speaker 1: out to the homie AC I did a live stream
- 1:34Speaker 1: about the movie Centers. Now I know you may be
- 1:37Speaker 1: saying to yourself, first of all, why wasn't it on audio? Well,
- 1:40Speaker 1: because I made some mistakes with audio, so there's that.
- 1:45Speaker 1: But also if you haven't seen the movie, for one,
- 1:50Speaker 1: it's a spoiler podcast. But we get into the musical
- 1:54Speaker 1: themes and how they relate to hip hop music in
- 1:59Speaker 1: the podcast. So obviously we give our review of the
- 2:02Speaker 1: movie just as fans of film, which I'm not gonna lie.
- 2:08Speaker 1: I kind of enjoy reviewing films. I just don't know
- 2:11Speaker 1: if I have the capacity to do a separate movie
- 2:16Speaker 1: review podcast, but I do watch all the movies that
- 2:21Speaker 1: you know, most people are checking for some people lauren't,
- 2:24Speaker 1: so it would be interesting. But this live stream was
- 2:28Speaker 1: strictly about the Centers movie, what we felt about the movie,
- 2:32Speaker 1: and again the musical themes that relate to hip hop
- 2:37Speaker 1: and music in general. So check that out. It's on
- 2:41Speaker 1: a channel, you know, if you want to see what
- 2:43Speaker 1: was what. I also have it at the end of
- 2:46Speaker 1: the episode on YouTube, so you didn't click those listening
- 2:50Speaker 1: audio form who would like to check that out? It
- 2:53Speaker 1: will be in the description of the podcast as far
- 2:57Speaker 1: as you get into the YouTube channel, that's what I mean.
- 3:00Speaker 1: So definitely check that out. But also big shout out
- 3:04Speaker 1: to new viewers who had you know, maybe the shortsip
- 3:09Speaker 1: posts got you here. And again those who are a
- 3:13Speaker 1: little slow, I know, you know, my audience a little older,
- 3:15Speaker 1: they're not that old. They're like around my age or
- 3:18Speaker 1: a little bit older. But we got some young gins
- 3:20Speaker 1: in here too. The shorts are literally, like, let's just
- 3:26Speaker 1: say this, if you ever heard of the term doom scrolling,
- 3:30Speaker 1: that's when like, let's say, whether it's TikTok, Instagram stories, Snapchat,
- 3:36Speaker 1: like all these places that got short form videos, Facebook
- 3:39Speaker 1: has now, but YouTube shorts is another one of those things.
- 3:43Speaker 1: And you could literally, like based off of who you
- 3:46Speaker 1: follow alone, you can literally spend a crazy amount of
- 3:51Speaker 1: time just flipping through content just watching quick videos. So
- 3:56Speaker 1: on this channel, we didn't necessarily do that. You know,
- 3:59Speaker 1: it was stuff here and there that I would produce
- 4:02Speaker 1: short form videos. But on Instagram, for those who follow
- 4:06Speaker 1: my Instagram, it's a great source for not only what
- 4:09Speaker 1: I'm currently listening to. If you want to know what's out,
- 4:13Speaker 1: follow me on Instagram at Vegas World. I ain c
- 4:16Speaker 1: I literally listen to albums that could potentially be to
- 4:20Speaker 1: your liking. I won't say that I like everything I
- 4:23Speaker 1: listened to, but I'm putting my ear to it. You know,
- 4:26Speaker 1: most recent joints I've played, I kind of like the
- 4:30Speaker 1: two Short album I'm not even gonna hold you. I know,
- 4:34Speaker 1: if you've been listening to Too Short for years, maybe
- 4:38Speaker 1: you're like, oh, he used to do that back in
- 4:40Speaker 1: the nineties and eighties, or you might feel like, I'm
- 4:43Speaker 1: glad he's getting back to it and I kind of
- 4:47Speaker 1: enjoyed it. Best of the year for me, not early,
- 4:49Speaker 1: but depending on what comes out this year, it could
- 4:53Speaker 1: be on that list of some of the best of
- 4:56Speaker 1: the year. But we'll see when you know, we're currently
- 5:00Speaker 1: in the deliberation of is that the word of twenty
- 5:05Speaker 1: twenty five? In June, we'll probably I think I believe
- 5:11Speaker 1: we reached the halfway point because the second quarter ends,
- 5:14Speaker 1: and then we'll start talking about the best of the
- 5:16Speaker 1: year so far. And there's a couple of joints that
- 5:20Speaker 1: are on that list already for me as far as
- 5:25Speaker 1: like what I listened to like Heavy along with you know,
- 5:30Speaker 1: potentially an album I'm talking about a little bit later
- 5:33Speaker 1: in this episode. So with that being said, shout out
- 5:38Speaker 1: Tip Hop DX dot Com, Ambrosia for Heads, Double XL
- 5:43Speaker 1: mag and a couple of places where I got my
- 5:45Speaker 1: stories from. Let's get ready into the business now. So
- 5:52Speaker 1: quite honestly, I stumbled across this story doing what I
- 5:57Speaker 1: said earlier just on I think I was on tip Talk.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Hold up, it's not even working, okay, I was on
- 6:05Speaker 1: TikTok and Doom scrolling right TikTok. I follow a lot
- 6:11Speaker 1: of sports, so typically that's you know, I'm kind of
- 6:15Speaker 1: absorbing short form videos as it relates to sports. But
- 6:18Speaker 1: there's a couple of hip hop joints sprinkled in there,
- 6:21Speaker 1: and then you know, sometimes they will reference something you
- 6:24Speaker 1: might like. So I saw the title first and it
- 6:29Speaker 1: was said it said rom Fest stands that Eminem called
- 6:33Speaker 1: him the N word during a rap battle in the nineties. Now,
- 6:38Speaker 1: first I was like what, so, well, two things right, First,
- 6:44Speaker 1: I'm like he did and he like didn't get stomped out.
- 6:48Speaker 1: And then two, the fact that Eminem was battling rhym
- 6:52Speaker 1: Fest was crazy because I was just like, words like
- 6:56Speaker 1: I would love to have heard that. So I watched
- 6:59Speaker 1: the interview and let me see if I could find
- 7:03Speaker 1: real quick where it was. This was him appearing on
- 7:07Speaker 1: the podcast. It's just my opinion, but this is coming
- 7:11Speaker 1: from Hip Hop DX, and this is me quoting ron
- 7:15Speaker 1: Fest from that interview. I battled Eminem in ninety eight
- 7:18Speaker 1: at this competition called Scribble Jam in Cincinnati. It was
- 7:22Speaker 1: the biggest battle in the Midwest and one of the
- 7:24Speaker 1: biggest rap battles in the country, and a lot of
- 7:27Speaker 1: famous rappers, DJs, and break dancers came out of Scribble Jam.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I battled Eminem and that was the first time a
- 7:35Speaker 1: white guy ever called me a N word. He said,
- 7:40Speaker 1: Now now they're quoting him as nigga. Right, I'll let
- 7:47Speaker 1: my raise This is what Eminem said to him. I'll
- 7:52Speaker 1: let my razors split you to they have to staple
- 7:55Speaker 1: stitch you. This N word took my facial tissue, turned
- 8:00Speaker 1: it into a racial itch issue. Bromfast said to that,
- 8:07Speaker 1: to hearing that you couldn't even be mad. I realized
- 8:11Speaker 1: something about racism that day. Is why family God works.
- 8:15Speaker 1: It's only good when it's funny. It's only it only
- 8:20Speaker 1: is non offensive when it's dope. Had you said that
- 8:24Speaker 1: Ish and it's not dope. It would have been a problem,
- 8:29Speaker 1: but you so cold and courageous that you did it
- 8:33Speaker 1: and got away with it. But when I say I
- 8:35Speaker 1: won that battle, he won the war. So you could
- 8:40Speaker 1: check this out. As a matter of fact. I saw
- 8:44Speaker 1: the clip through the Art of dialogue, I believe, posted
- 8:48Speaker 1: it on social media and I watched that. Now, how
- 8:51Speaker 1: do I feel about it? How do you feel about it?
- 8:54Speaker 1: Leave your comments in the common section below. I know
- 8:56Speaker 1: some people they don't care if you saying the hard
- 8:59Speaker 1: er Paul's I guess or the uh G the g
- 9:06Speaker 1: g A version of it. Now, ron Fest here is
- 9:10Speaker 1: saying he meant it in the way to say the
- 9:14Speaker 1: ni g g A, right, That's how he pronounced it.
- 9:19Speaker 1: So I think that's more why he got away with it, right.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Some people don't play with you at all with any
- 9:27Speaker 1: of it, any spelling, any version, right. But I think
- 9:32Speaker 1: that's what like kept everybody hands at bay, and the
- 9:36Speaker 1: fact that it was a slick line, right, because I'm
- 9:42Speaker 1: thinking because ron Fest didn't say this so, or at
- 9:45Speaker 1: least I didn't see it in the clip, I'm thinking
- 9:48Speaker 1: he said something your white boy, go back, white boy,
- 9:52Speaker 1: blah blah, and that was Eminem's rebuttal, right, So it
- 9:57Speaker 1: is slick, it is cold. Ron Fest says he wants
- 10:02Speaker 1: won the battle, which I could believe. Ron Fest is dope,
- 10:06Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, especially talking ninety eight and
- 10:09Speaker 1: him saying Eminem won the wars, like, well, you know,
- 10:14Speaker 1: look at him as an MC and as a successful
- 10:18Speaker 1: rapper versus rom Fest, which isn't a knock on ron
- 10:22Speaker 1: Fest at all. It's just sometimes it plays out like that. Right,
- 10:27Speaker 1: that's like a street baller who gets the best of
- 10:30Speaker 1: an NBA player. But that's Kobe Bryant, right, Like you
- 10:35Speaker 1: crossed up Kobe. Cool, but that's Kobe. He's doing it
- 10:39Speaker 1: on a level that you aren't able to achieve. So
- 10:45Speaker 1: I think I felt more of a way about the
- 10:49Speaker 1: audio that Benzeno linked a couple of years ago where
- 10:54Speaker 1: Eminem had like a black girlfriend and she dumped him
- 10:58Speaker 1: or cheated on him or something like that, and he
- 11:01Speaker 1: made this hate filled fueled rhyme as a teenager, and
- 11:10Speaker 1: I just didn't like what he was saying. I didn't
- 11:12Speaker 1: care what age he was blah blah blah. I just
- 11:14Speaker 1: was not feeling it. And he obviously he apologized and
- 11:19Speaker 1: he didn't really even talk about, you know, I was
- 11:22Speaker 1: He didn't make an excuse as you know, I was
- 11:24Speaker 1: a teenager and blah blah blah, and I'm stupid and
- 11:27Speaker 1: I was young, and I was hurt, and I wanted
- 11:30Speaker 1: to make her feel pain in the deepest way possible.
- 11:34Speaker 1: So that's what I came up with. But I think
- 11:38Speaker 1: apologized for something that you did as a teenager, because
- 11:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you right now. I know there's some
- 11:45Speaker 1: high horse people. I know some of y'all were perfect
- 11:47Speaker 1: from day one and continue to remain perfect on social
- 11:50Speaker 1: media and all of that. But I know I did it,
- 11:54Speaker 1: said some terrible things, terrible things that I would never
- 12:00Speaker 1: say today. And if I was and if I ever
- 12:03Speaker 1: hurt somebody, whatever would have been, I would apologize it.
- 12:09Speaker 1: There's not even enough of an apology I could make
- 12:12Speaker 1: at that point in time. So I forgave him after
- 12:16Speaker 1: a while, because at the end of the day, you
- 12:18Speaker 1: can't kill people who understand their mistakes, right. You got
- 12:23Speaker 1: to give people a time to come back. And it's
- 12:25Speaker 1: just not for eminem and a racial issue. I'm just
- 12:28Speaker 1: talking about in general, like you can't some people. Some
- 12:34Speaker 1: people deserve it. Some people definitely deserve to go down
- 12:38Speaker 1: getting stomped on. But that's kind of how I feel
- 12:41Speaker 1: about Kanye. I feel like Kanye needs help. I feel
- 12:45Speaker 1: like he's looking for the thing that will get people
- 12:49Speaker 1: most rouled up. It's almost like he wants to be
- 12:52Speaker 1: broke again in order to feel whole again. Mars, But
- 12:58Speaker 1: that's what it feels like, right, He's gonna say whatever
- 13:01Speaker 1: gets people to look at me in headlines and me
- 13:05Speaker 1: dropping an album, and I just keep saying stuff and
- 13:08Speaker 1: you just know something's wrong. So this whole situation with
- 13:12Speaker 1: rom Fest and Eminem, I think is a non situation,
- 13:16Speaker 1: mainly because the crowd mostly didn't react, according to ron
- 13:22Speaker 1: Fest in a way that felt like they were offended,
- 13:27Speaker 1: and him saying you know when it's funny means I
- 13:30Speaker 1: think everybody laughed it, laughed it off. But also he
- 13:34Speaker 1: was saying it to rom Fest, So if he didn't
- 13:39Speaker 1: take offense to it in that moment, and we're not
- 13:41Speaker 1: talking about well, you know, rom Fest, they take offense
- 13:45Speaker 1: to it because he wanted an opportunity with Eminem to
- 13:49Speaker 1: blah blah blah. Nah, we ain't talk about the same cat.
- 13:52Speaker 1: We're talking about, like eminem blew up after this. We're
- 13:56Speaker 1: talking about spitters getting in a battle, in a battle,
- 14:00Speaker 1: not a beef. I wish you young cats would stop
- 14:02Speaker 1: saying a beef. Just go listen to Biggie's song off
- 14:05Speaker 1: a Life after Death. What's beef? Listen to what he's saying.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Listen to just the hook. Even if you feel like
- 14:11Speaker 1: this is old, I don't want to hear it, Listen
- 14:12Speaker 1: to just the hook. Those are beefs Awaiian tell you
- 14:19Speaker 1: to move from that corner and you don't, and they
- 14:23Speaker 1: blaze at you, you blaze back. I don't know. Blaze
- 14:25Speaker 1: is like a pause word, and I don't know. I
- 14:28Speaker 1: just didn't want to say the other word on YouTube.
- 14:31Speaker 1: But beef is beef. Let's not substitute the word battle.
- 14:38Speaker 1: That's been a part of hip hop for more than
- 14:40Speaker 1: fifty years, for beef because of you know what what happened,
- 14:49Speaker 1: you know, Big and pot like all of this stuff,
- 14:53Speaker 1: just they turned everything into a beef. Now it's and
- 14:56Speaker 1: jay Z. It didn't necessarily have a beef. You can say, oh,
- 14:59Speaker 1: well they have a beef with with each other because
- 15:00Speaker 1: they don't like each other. Yeah, sure, but what's happening
- 15:03Speaker 1: is a rap battle, like that's what it is. So
- 15:07Speaker 1: I don't know, how do you feel about Eminem using
- 15:11Speaker 1: the N word in that context, in that setting during
- 15:15Speaker 1: the battle, do you feel like in battle rap personals
- 15:18Speaker 1: is par for the course. And you've heard people talk
- 15:21Speaker 1: about opponent's dead parents, locked up parents, people being snitches,
- 15:27Speaker 1: all kind of personals thrown at each other. Where it
- 15:31Speaker 1: was a couple of times things get they get risky,
- 15:34Speaker 1: but they typically don't get out of hand in rap
- 15:39Speaker 1: battles when you're throwing personals. Depending on what he said, Now,
- 15:43Speaker 1: if Eminem would have said, what's the dude from Seinfeld
- 15:47Speaker 1: who thought he was doing a bit? You know, if
- 15:52Speaker 1: this was back in the day he said this to
- 15:54Speaker 1: a heckler while he was on stage. You know, if
- 15:57Speaker 1: it was back in the days, you're being chained and
- 15:59Speaker 1: it was like he was lucky that black man was
- 16:04Speaker 1: holding it down because in any other setting it would
- 16:08Speaker 1: have been hands and feet next story. So if you
- 16:17Speaker 1: don't know, not that long ago, Boss Riza, And that's
- 16:23Speaker 1: how I heard it. I don't know if there was
- 16:24Speaker 1: another official announcement before that, but how I heard it,
- 16:28Speaker 1: Rizza announced there would be a new Wu Tang Clan
- 16:33Speaker 1: album in twenty twenty five, people rejoiced, got hyped. I
- 16:40Speaker 1: personally got hyped because I had just finished listening to
- 16:43Speaker 1: Rizzi's interview with Rick Ross, which was fantastic. I know
- 16:47Speaker 1: some people have watched rizzido interviews, but I think he
- 16:50Speaker 1: was a little bit more transparent with his thoughts in
- 16:55Speaker 1: the history of the Wu and you know, things he's
- 16:59Speaker 1: done because he was talking to Reck Rubin, and so
- 17:03Speaker 1: I felt I found it fascinated. It was like two
- 17:06Speaker 1: hours or so, and I listened to all of it,
- 17:08Speaker 1: you know, which I typically don't do when it comes
- 17:11Speaker 1: to audio podcast. I just be like, all right, dog,
- 17:13Speaker 1: you know, I'm a listen to one hour and then
- 17:15Speaker 1: I might come back for another hour of this podcast.
- 17:19Speaker 1: But later on him announcing that the Woo would have
- 17:24Speaker 1: a new album, it was just the way he said it.
- 17:25Speaker 1: I was like, the Woo is back, maybe this time
- 17:30Speaker 1: would be better. But then he said, and this was
- 17:35Speaker 1: in a follow up joint, a follow up press release
- 17:39Speaker 1: or whatever or interview, he said Mathematics would be doing
- 17:45Speaker 1: the production, and I was like, well, wait a minute,
- 17:49Speaker 1: riz is announcing a Riza the master behind the sound
- 17:55Speaker 1: of Wu Tang plan since nineteen ninety three, asterid solo
- 18:03Speaker 1: albums Wu Tang albums in particular, is announcing a new
- 18:09Speaker 1: Wu Tang album, but he's not on the boards for
- 18:13Speaker 1: all of it. Now, I know to some Wu Tang
- 18:16Speaker 1: faples like, well, it's not a Wu Tang album. It's
- 18:18Speaker 1: not something I want to hear. If Riza ain't on
- 18:21Speaker 1: the boards, I don't want to hear it. And I
- 18:24Speaker 1: feel you because I felt a little bamboozooed. But then
- 18:28Speaker 1: I remembered recent Wu Tang clan group albums from Mathematics
- 18:38Speaker 1: are better than recent Wu Tang clan albums produced by Rizen.
- 18:46Speaker 1: That's all facts we've seen it. Probably more so like
- 18:53Speaker 1: I'm the type where the W was cool, Like, well,
- 18:57Speaker 1: let's just go through it bro quick, right thirty six
- 19:00Speaker 1: we already know certified classic Wu Tang forever, probably a
- 19:04Speaker 1: classic to most. Also all Risen. You know that first
- 19:09Speaker 1: suite of solo albums from clan members, iconic beats, all
- 19:14Speaker 1: different from each other, from Riza to Raycon to ODB
- 19:18Speaker 1: to method man Rizza. But then as the group albums
- 19:25Speaker 1: started to go on, things started to get a little shifty.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Right the W I wasn't the biggest fan of the
- 19:31Speaker 1: w But it was cool, right. I felt like Rizza
- 19:34Speaker 1: was going he was going places that musically, I was
- 19:39Speaker 1: just kind of like, I don't know if I like this.
- 19:42Speaker 1: But then Iron Flag, which I thought more people liked
- 19:45Speaker 1: when it came out. I thought it was cool, was
- 19:49Speaker 1: a good album to me. But then the Wu Tang
- 19:52Speaker 1: albums took a noseedive after that. And I'm talking about
- 19:55Speaker 1: the official Riza backed albums like eight Diagrams and Better
- 20:03Speaker 1: Tomorrow not good, not good at all. And I remember
- 20:10Speaker 1: like convincing my trying to convince myself that, yo, you
- 20:15Speaker 1: kind of sleeping on you know where Rizz's trying to
- 20:19Speaker 1: go with the production. This is the Wu Tang client
- 20:22Speaker 1: this is official Rizi did the Beats. Let's go nah Man.
- 20:27Speaker 1: I listen to those albums so many times trying to
- 20:30Speaker 1: find something good in it. I just had to realize
- 20:33Speaker 1: it wasn't but Mathematics who has been producing for the
- 20:39Speaker 1: WU and WU members throughout the years, for example one
- 20:43Speaker 1: I use that always make you know, hip hop heads
- 20:48Speaker 1: who want to argue otherwise you know, he did ghost Faces,
- 20:52Speaker 1: Mighty Healthy, Awful, Supreme clientele, and a lot of people
- 20:57Speaker 1: think because Rizzo was involved as an excutive producer. Rizzin
- 21:02Speaker 1: ain't doing all the beats on Supreme clientele, Like a
- 21:05Speaker 1: lot of the beats that I thought he did, he
- 21:07Speaker 1: didn't do, you know what I'm saying. And Mathematics did
- 21:12Speaker 1: Mighty Healthy Right, which is one of ghost faces dopest
- 21:15Speaker 1: songs in his catalog. But more importantly, the last Woo
- 21:21Speaker 1: Tang project produced by Mathematics was I Believe Once upon
- 21:26Speaker 1: a Time in Shahlann, which I felt like was kind
- 21:29Speaker 1: of slept on because it wasn't produced by Riza. Album
- 21:34Speaker 1: cover was dope, features were dope, beats were cool, like
- 21:41Speaker 1: it felt like the woo that you're looking for. As
- 21:44Speaker 1: far as sonically, and before I get into this new
- 21:48Speaker 1: album and my review of it, I'll just say this
- 21:51Speaker 1: when it comes to Risin in that Rick Rubin interview,
- 21:55Speaker 1: and I know it didn't start there because he's probably
- 21:57Speaker 1: said this on numerous occasions. He reiterates that at one
- 22:03Speaker 1: point he doesn't he felt like, yo, I have to
- 22:08Speaker 1: keep moving forward as a producer. I have to do
- 22:12Speaker 1: something new. I'm not into retreading ground that I've already covered.
- 22:18Speaker 1: I get that people have an appetite for that, but
- 22:22Speaker 1: I'm always moving forward. And I think that explains why
- 22:26Speaker 1: there was so much tension between like Ray Kwan and
- 22:30Speaker 1: Riza about the sound, because Rizza is trying to expand
- 22:35Speaker 1: upon what he created all those years ago and not
- 22:40Speaker 1: really copy it, and Ray Kwon said, well, I don't
- 22:44Speaker 1: want you to copy it, but there's a particular sound
- 22:47Speaker 1: that people have become accustomed to when it comes to
- 22:50Speaker 1: the Wu, and it's boom back in Rizza's style of
- 22:55Speaker 1: boom back. So it makes sense that Mathematics is more
- 23:00Speaker 1: of like a compromise where Rizza, who is featured on
- 23:05Speaker 1: his album Rapping sounded good. Also it's like, okay, well,
- 23:11Speaker 1: it seems the fans, based on how they received eight
- 23:16Speaker 1: Diagrams and Better Tomorrow and all that, it seems like
- 23:19Speaker 1: the fans are more attracted to what I used to do,
- 23:24Speaker 1: and Mathematics has a great hold on that sound. And
- 23:28Speaker 1: he's a part of the Wool. He created the Wu
- 23:30Speaker 1: Tang logo, he was a DJ for the Wool, and
- 23:34Speaker 1: he's again he has many credits throughout Wu Tang Clan's
- 23:38Speaker 1: history from album solo albums all that. So with that
- 23:44Speaker 1: being said, the new album is out. Wu Tang clan
- 23:50Speaker 1: produced and conceptualized by Mathematics is called Black Sampson The
- 23:55Speaker 1: Bested Swordsman. It's about twelve songs here, coming in about
- 24:02Speaker 1: forty minutes, which is crazy. But I'm not complaining either
- 24:07Speaker 1: because I don't need thirty songs. I'm sorry, I just don't.
- 24:11Speaker 1: I don't know what to do with that unless somehow
- 24:14Speaker 1: you are able to take thirty songs and make it
- 24:17Speaker 1: so amazing. But no, it's probably gonna be two hours,
- 24:21Speaker 1: so I can't guest features including there's a lot of
- 24:24Speaker 1: guest features on here. If you didn't know, there's a lot.
- 24:30Speaker 1: For example, Kuji raps on here, Kuji rap verse KUSI
- 24:34Speaker 1: rap still got it, you know what I'm saying. His
- 24:36Speaker 1: verse was crazy though, Kuzie raps on here. Benny the
- 24:41Speaker 1: Butcher's featured on here. R J. Paine thirty Special, Willie
- 24:46Speaker 1: the Kid who else King Crooked is on here. Also,
- 24:53Speaker 1: all of the WU members do show up on tracks,
- 24:56Speaker 1: and it's not necessarily like the big Protecting Neck track.
- 25:00Speaker 1: The sprinkled throughout the project, Like you know, Rizzard appears
- 25:04Speaker 1: a couple of times. Same thing with Meth, same thing
- 25:07Speaker 1: with Ray. I think ghosts may be on one song
- 25:11Speaker 1: which is crazy, but the song it's called Claudine and
- 25:17Speaker 1: it's pretty dope. Like at first when it started, I
- 25:19Speaker 1: was kind of like this, this feels like we're going
- 25:22Speaker 1: in a different direction after the first first two songs.
- 25:27Speaker 1: But then once once the singing kind of the singing
- 25:31Speaker 1: is done in the beginning, the beat opens up and
- 25:37Speaker 1: the verses come through and it really sounds dope for
- 25:42Speaker 1: those who don't know, just because I gotta say this
- 25:45Speaker 1: for the new people, My system is, first listen, just
- 25:51Speaker 1: grab all the vibes from it, you know, grab the vibes.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Second listen, okay, let's listen in detailed concept which is
- 25:58Speaker 1: blaxploitation films if you have a guessed. And the third
- 26:04Speaker 1: listener is just to confirm my thoughts. Now for those
- 26:06Speaker 1: who need quick reviews, I will say this is a
- 26:09Speaker 1: good album. This is another good Wu Tang album produced
- 26:13Speaker 1: by Mathematics. Give the man his flowers, because if it
- 26:19Speaker 1: were up to Rizza produced today projects, they either not
- 26:25Speaker 1: going to happen or they're not going to be what
- 26:28Speaker 1: you expect, like a better Tomorrow. He talked about that
- 26:32Speaker 1: and that Rick Rubin interview, what he was going for
- 26:37Speaker 1: and he reluctantly. He was just feeling like, yeah, it
- 26:42Speaker 1: wasn't it, even though I remember back then on social
- 26:46Speaker 1: media Wu Tang stands lying to themselves that this was
- 26:52Speaker 1: a great album, just saying generic things like Wu Tang forever, Like, man,
- 26:55Speaker 1: shut up, you not even you're not even talking in detail.
- 26:58Speaker 1: You just know that's the thing, and you're just gonna
- 27:01Speaker 1: repeat the marketing tactic, right, And I don't mean that
- 27:05Speaker 1: in a bad way. I'm just saying, what are you
- 27:08Speaker 1: even talking about? Shut up? That album was trash and
- 27:11Speaker 1: Riza basically just said it, so give mathematics's flowers because
- 27:17Speaker 1: I was a little skeptical, and I'm gonna tell you this,
- 27:20Speaker 1: it wasn't because he hadn't proved himself as a producer.
- 27:25Speaker 1: It was that damn AI first video where I was like,
- 27:29Speaker 1: what is this now? I know some people say, now
- 27:32Speaker 1: I was real people. You can make videos with AI
- 27:37Speaker 1: using real people. You just describe the things around them.
- 27:41Speaker 1: So that's like if I film a bunch of scenes
- 27:43Speaker 1: with you in a green screen, and you know, I
- 27:48Speaker 1: tell you, hey, you're fighting ninjas in this one, and hey,
- 27:50Speaker 1: you're talking to the grand Master in this one, and
- 27:52Speaker 1: you're doing this and you're talking to your master and
- 27:54Speaker 1: you defeated such and such blah blah blah, and this scene.
- 27:57Speaker 1: And then I take those scenes, I put them in
- 28:00Speaker 1: the AI machine bars. I forget which one people mostly use,
- 28:05Speaker 1: but there's a couple of them, and I tell them,
- 28:08Speaker 1: in this scene, this guy is fighting one thousand ninjas,
- 28:12Speaker 1: and it'll just create that one thousand ninjas in a
- 28:16Speaker 1: post apocalyptic China, you know, like a karate flag. I
- 28:23Speaker 1: could put all that description in there and it was
- 28:25Speaker 1: just created. And I just was kind of like, come on, man,
- 28:29Speaker 1: y'are announcing the wo is back, the wo are They're
- 28:32Speaker 1: doing their final tour, final tour ever. And the first
- 28:38Speaker 1: video from this project it's some ai karate Nah man,
- 28:44Speaker 1: that wasn't it. So I was kind of skeptical. And
- 28:47Speaker 1: then I was even further skeptical when I press played,
- 28:49Speaker 1: because not that this is a bad thing, but if
- 28:52Speaker 1: I'm anticipating a Wu Tang album, the first voices I
- 28:57Speaker 1: hear on here is Ralph mcdanie corrupt and somebody else
- 29:05Speaker 1: I can't remember who, And it was more so like
- 29:08Speaker 1: giving props to the Wou. But I was just kind
- 29:10Speaker 1: of like, man, I don't want to hear that. Maybe
- 29:13Speaker 1: I've been listening to hip hop for too long, you know,
- 29:16Speaker 1: or music too long. You know. Maybe I'm just getting old.
- 29:19Speaker 1: But the intros with the Yo man, I won't give
- 29:23Speaker 1: a shout out to mathematics. You doing your thing, keep
- 29:27Speaker 1: doing it? Next voice Yo was good. I sound like
- 29:31Speaker 1: the guy who just called. But I just want to say,
- 29:35Speaker 1: nah man, that does nothing for me. Okay, nothing, skip right,
- 29:40Speaker 1: that's what it does. But once we got into Mandingo,
- 29:44Speaker 1: which was it was okay, it was kind of like
- 29:47Speaker 1: I didn't like the man Dingo as much. That's the
- 29:50Speaker 1: one that had the AI video, I believe, mainly because
- 29:53Speaker 1: it sounded too much like Woo knockoff. And it's tough
- 29:58Speaker 1: to say giving a the fact that Mathematics has been
- 30:01Speaker 1: a part of the WU for a minute. You know
- 30:04Speaker 1: what I'm saying in many different roles, but it just
- 30:08Speaker 1: reminded me of better beats that Rizza did. It was
- 30:12Speaker 1: too close, way too close. It just felt like this
- 30:17Speaker 1: sounds like whoa. It was kind of proven Riz's point,
- 30:20Speaker 1: like the rehashes, but as the album continues, the production
- 30:27Speaker 1: is way more varied than I thought. Man Dingo is
- 30:30Speaker 1: probably the only record to me that sounds like if
- 30:34Speaker 1: somebody heard it and you know Rizzi, you said Riza
- 30:37Speaker 1: didn't do this, You feel like that's knock off risk.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Like some of my favorites, the Claudine joint, Chalin versus Lama,
- 30:45Speaker 1: which is ray kuon inspected deck h I skipped Executioners
- 30:51Speaker 1: from Chalin Capa Donna's versus interesting. It's kind of dope.
- 30:55Speaker 1: It was more interesting to me because he made a
- 30:58Speaker 1: lot of animal references and anything about that trash cover
- 31:01Speaker 1: he had where half his face was lying and it
- 31:04Speaker 1: was supposed to be like jungle, but he was just
- 31:07Speaker 1: in somebody yard next to like leaves that fell from
- 31:10Speaker 1: a tree. Terrible. One of the worst album covers. Not
- 31:14Speaker 1: the worst, I've seen some bad ones, but definitely one
- 31:17Speaker 1: of the worst album covers ever. But the song Executions
- 31:23Speaker 1: from Shylann it just didn't really do anything for me.
- 31:26Speaker 1: And you're talking about a song that got just and
- 31:28Speaker 1: inspected deck on it. I think it was just a production.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Cleopatrick Jones was dope with Raycon Master Killer Warriors too
- 31:38Speaker 1: coolly high with Beanie Benny the Butcher and method Man
- 31:42Speaker 1: is pretty dope. Let's do it again, which mostly like
- 31:47Speaker 1: Riss is the only one from the Wool feature, but
- 31:50Speaker 1: it's like RJ Payne thirty Special, Willy the Kid, They
- 31:54Speaker 1: dominate the track. R J Payn's versus Crazy okay crazy
- 31:59Speaker 1: with the Wool references. Dolomite was cool and then the
- 32:03Speaker 1: last song is fine. But it's one of those things
- 32:08Speaker 1: where this album is and I know this is gonna
- 32:11Speaker 1: be a long episode, y'all, sorry, but it's one of
- 32:15Speaker 1: those things where the album is cool. It's not gonna
- 32:21Speaker 1: give you the wo Is Back vibes because it's just isn't.
- 32:27Speaker 1: But for some new WU songs, some new verses, it's cool.
- 32:33Speaker 1: It's good. Will it be best of the year for me?
- 32:37Speaker 1: Like top five? Hell no, it's just not that good.
- 32:41Speaker 1: The albums that I really like right now, I will
- 32:45Speaker 1: put them above this. But if the year turns out
- 32:48Speaker 1: to be mostly slow and there's a couple of bangers,
- 32:52Speaker 1: I don't have no problem adding this because I skipped
- 32:56Speaker 1: one track. I mean, that's a good album to me.
- 33:02Speaker 1: I don't know about you, but that's a good album
- 33:04Speaker 1: to me. So if you've heard the new album by
- 33:07Speaker 1: Wu Tan Klan and Mathematics, Black Sampson leave your comments
- 33:12Speaker 1: in a comment section below. Let me know what you think.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Does it matter to you that it's not produced solely
- 33:18Speaker 1: by Rizza, even though Rizza does appear on his album
- 33:22Speaker 1: and sounds good on these tracks as far as his rhymen.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Leave your comments and a comments section below. And lastly,
- 33:34Speaker 1: so we've been watching videos online of Nas in India,
- 33:39Speaker 1: obviously on business Gotta be, you know, with all the
- 33:44Speaker 1: behind the scenes video footage we keep getting. We know
- 33:47Speaker 1: that the label he is associated with, Mass Appeal Records,
- 33:53Speaker 1: has what is it seven albums, seven new albums from
- 33:58Speaker 1: seven rap icons dropping this year, including the NAS and
- 34:03Speaker 1: DJ premier album. And they've been slow with their campaign,
- 34:08Speaker 1: but they've been posting on ig different things like you know,
- 34:12Speaker 1: a picture of young Nads and a description about who
- 34:16Speaker 1: he was as an EMC coming into the game. Then
- 34:19Speaker 1: they did another one that was like Ghost, the younger
- 34:23Speaker 1: Ghost that you knew, and there's a description about him
- 34:26Speaker 1: and his writing style and his success in the game.
- 34:31Speaker 1: And I'm not sure where the source of this story
- 34:35Speaker 1: came from, because I saw it on a couple of
- 34:38Speaker 1: different occasions and I just started thinking about it as
- 34:41Speaker 1: an MC, as a hip hop fan, and I guess
- 34:46Speaker 1: someone asked him, you know what keeps you hungry in
- 34:50Speaker 1: a hip hop game? What keeps your pin sharp in
- 34:53Speaker 1: the hip hop game? And Na said something that was
- 34:58Speaker 1: to me familiar as a fan of sports, in particular boxing,
- 35:04Speaker 1: where he said, and I'll draw the comparisons in the second,
- 35:07Speaker 1: but he said, I'm still trying to write my favorite song.
- 35:14Speaker 1: I feel like I haven't written the song. And I'm paraphrasing,
- 35:19Speaker 1: but I haven't written a song that I can call
- 35:22Speaker 1: my best, my favorite. And I think that's pretty dope
- 35:27Speaker 1: when it comes to motivating yourself. Right now, when I
- 35:32Speaker 1: say stuff like boxing and comparing it to boxing, it's
- 35:36Speaker 1: the reason why some people keep going even when they're losing, right,
- 35:41Speaker 1: even when they're successful, and you see they're still sharp
- 35:46Speaker 1: at what they do, Like, for example, like Floyd Mayweather,
- 35:49Speaker 1: like he was still quick and sharp at an age
- 35:53Speaker 1: where he was supposed to slow down speed wise, at
- 35:56Speaker 1: least he was definitely supposed to slow down. In boxing,
- 35:59Speaker 1: they say the last thing to go is your power.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Right Like, you can lose your foot foot movement, you
- 36:07Speaker 1: could get hit more like your defense get a little lax,
- 36:11Speaker 1: but you may still have that power if you've been landed,
- 36:15Speaker 1: you may throw fewer punches. But with Nas, it's more
- 36:19Speaker 1: like Floyd Mayweather after this hit boy run of stix
- 36:24Speaker 1: albums in two and a half years and most of
- 36:26Speaker 1: them being dope by most hip hop heads. I know
- 36:29Speaker 1: that some people who didn't like it, that's cool. You
- 36:32Speaker 1: can go sit at the kids table. But your opinion
- 36:37Speaker 1: is your opinion. But I'm saying I think he looks
- 36:42Speaker 1: at it like I haven't done my best yet, and
- 36:47Speaker 1: that motivates him to do his best every time he
- 36:51Speaker 1: writes new rhymes. And I think that's awesome to think about.
- 36:56Speaker 1: And I think if more not necessar somely just older rappers,
- 37:01Speaker 1: but if more rappers looked at the game, rappers, mcs,
- 37:06Speaker 1: whatever you want to say, looked at the game in
- 37:09Speaker 1: that way and we're able to feed off of it,
- 37:14Speaker 1: I think we would have more music that we could say,
- 37:17Speaker 1: oh man, it's so much good music out now. I
- 37:20Speaker 1: could say that because I listen to a lot of stuff,
- 37:22Speaker 1: and I think people just miss a lot of albums.
- 37:24Speaker 1: But to know that that's the motivation of somebody that's dope,
- 37:30Speaker 1: that tells you they care about what they write, they
- 37:33Speaker 1: care about their craft, they care about hip hop, and
- 37:38Speaker 1: if someone like NAS, who has so many hits, a
- 37:43Speaker 1: couple of classic albums, some of the greatest verses ever
- 37:48Speaker 1: in hip hop, says he's still trying to write his
- 37:52Speaker 1: favorite song, that's something to admire. Now. I know we
- 37:57Speaker 1: live in a social media age and might be like,
- 38:01Speaker 1: that's cat. I'll say to this, I don't see it.
- 38:09Speaker 1: I'm sorry. When him and hit Boy beyond all the
- 38:15Speaker 1: other releases, when Him and hit Boy dropped Magic, you
- 38:19Speaker 1: would have thought Illmatic dropped again. The way people were
- 38:22Speaker 1: reacting to that album like and then you know, obviously
- 38:27Speaker 1: King's Disease two and three. The way people were acting
- 38:32Speaker 1: was like, yo, now it's the go right, So it's
- 38:37Speaker 1: just dope to see that that's his motivation. What do
- 38:40Speaker 1: you think about what NA says? Do you feel like
- 38:44Speaker 1: they're some of your favorite artists who are not really
- 38:47Speaker 1: their pen game is not what it used to be,
- 38:49Speaker 1: and you feel like they may not be as motivated
- 38:52Speaker 1: as they used to be back when you know they
- 38:55Speaker 1: were in their prime. Leave your comments in a comment
