- 0:00Speaker 1: On the text line, somebody said Texas and Texas A
- 0:02Speaker 1: and M need to take Thursday back from the NFL.
- 0:05Speaker 1: You know, Chrystalcante says he'd like to see a return
- 0:09Speaker 1: of Friday. Yeah, Black Friday.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Don't think Thursday's ever happens with the three NFL games. Yeah, Now,
- 0:16Speaker 2: the NFL is kind of I wouldn't watch.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Listen year well yeah, yeah next year when we're in
- 0:25Speaker 1: nowI yeah, you don't want to listen. I've done that deal,
- 0:28Speaker 1: that red Eye overnight and then he'd call the game
- 0:30Speaker 1: the next day and all that. So yeah, I wouldn't
- 0:34Speaker 1: mind Friday, but I'm okay with Saturday a little bit too.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Somebody else said the SEC is cannibalizing with eight either
- 0:42Speaker 1: competitive go back to division that they will not go
- 0:44Speaker 1: back to divisions.
- 0:45Speaker 3: That's not happening.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Do you think the tire breakers just to figure out
- 0:49Speaker 2: h two teams for that or the tar the divisions?
- 0:52Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it'd be nuts.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Well, we've seen it obviously, you know, in the Big
- 0:56Speaker 1: Twelve and the way it's been, so it's nuts. All right,
- 0:59Speaker 1: let's hear some more from Vic shafor Texas women's basketball coach.
- 1:03Speaker 3: You heard him talking about the Texas Texas and rivalry.
- 1:05Speaker 1: This guy graduated from A and M, who coached as
- 1:08Speaker 1: an assistant or Gary Blair that national championship team at
- 1:10Speaker 1: twenty eleven, the one there.
- 1:12Speaker 3: He was asked if.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Aggie's viewed long Worns differently than long Worns view Aggies
- 1:19Speaker 1: from that perspective, because he's seen it now from both sides.
- 1:24Speaker 4: Maybe, you know, I think there's I think you could
- 1:28Speaker 4: you could say that.
- 1:29Speaker 3: You couldn't say that.
- 1:30Speaker 4: I think each year's you know, it's different, you know,
- 1:36Speaker 4: it just it kind of depends you and I both know.
- 1:40Speaker 4: For instance, when I was at Mississippi State, Ole Miss
- 1:43Speaker 4: was supposed to be our rival. We beat him like
- 1:46Speaker 4: six straight years, twice a year. Well, my kids, I
- 1:50Speaker 4: couldn't even It wasn't even a matter of trying to
- 1:53Speaker 4: get them up. We had a lot of other teams
- 1:56Speaker 4: on our schedule that were got our attention a whole
- 1:59Speaker 4: lot more than that particular game. I think with this
- 2:02Speaker 4: game between these two schools, you know, each team has
- 2:08Speaker 4: had its moment, But I'm just talking about the overall
- 2:13Speaker 4: rivalry between the two schools, and I've obviously been on
- 2:17Speaker 4: both sides. I think just depending on the year and maybe.
- 2:25Speaker 3: The previous years.
- 2:27Speaker 4: You know, each place maybe puts a little more emphasis
- 2:30Speaker 4: on it than others. I think this game Saturday Night,
- 2:35Speaker 4: you can forget the rivalry. The game itself, it has
- 2:42Speaker 4: so much riding on it, you know, with the opportunity
- 2:46Speaker 4: to play for the SEC Championship, that in and of
- 2:49Speaker 4: itself is enough, right.
- 2:53Speaker 3: I mean, that's what the kids are going to be thinking.
- 2:59Speaker 4: They don't have any idea what happened back in the
- 3:02Speaker 4: sixties and seventies.
- 3:03Speaker 3: And probably don't care.
- 3:05Speaker 4: Right what they care about is playing for the SEC Championship.
- 3:12Speaker 4: My kids I have on my team when we have
- 3:14Speaker 4: to go over there and play in January, they're they're
- 3:18Speaker 4: going to be more worried about, more in.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Tune with It's an SEC game and we need to
- 3:24Speaker 3: win it, period.
- 3:27Speaker 4: You know, they they haven't you know, you and I
- 3:32Speaker 4: were part of the SWC, you know, the Southwest Conference.
- 3:36Speaker 3: We know you know what all that entailed.
- 3:39Speaker 4: We know how how dominant Texas was for so long,
- 3:44Speaker 4: and so it's you know, in today's world, it probably
- 3:52Speaker 4: has a little different meaning.
- 3:53Speaker 3: I think you know what I'm talking about. Yeah, there
- 3:54Speaker 3: you go.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Some thoughts here from Big Shaffer let's hear from a
- 3:57Speaker 1: couple of long worn men's players. And this might be
- 4:00Speaker 1: especially poignant here based on what Cameradge just told me,
- 4:03Speaker 1: But Kenda Weaver long words Guard played really well there
- 4:08Speaker 1: in the In the tournament, New York was was asked
- 4:12Speaker 1: not about playing Delaware State, but about playing Yukon, the
- 4:20Speaker 1: two time defending national champions the following week. And of course,
- 4:24Speaker 1: remember they played Yukon last year at Madison Square Guard
- 4:28Speaker 1: lost to Yukon by ten, and he was asked his
- 4:31Speaker 1: thoughts about matching up against Yukon again and what did
- 4:34Speaker 1: they learn from last year's game.
- 4:36Speaker 5: I'm looking forward to, you know, bonding my team, you know,
- 4:39Speaker 5: off the court mainly. You know that's going to help
- 4:42Speaker 5: us on the court against Yukon. And I think last year,
- 4:44Speaker 5: you know, we weren't at our full capacity. You know,
- 4:47Speaker 5: we were missing a couple of guys. So I feel
- 4:49Speaker 5: like this year, you know, we'll be ready to play them.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Okay, And you just told me yesterday we were talking
- 4:55Speaker 1: about Yukon losing an overtime incredible game of Memphis and
- 5:00Speaker 1: just got beat again.
- 5:00Speaker 2: In Maui just lost to Colorado after leading by eight
- 5:04Speaker 2: points at halftime end up losing seventy three to seventy two.
- 5:07Speaker 2: So the defending national champion Yukon Huskies have now lost
- 5:13Speaker 2: back to back games in Mali by a combined three points.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Okay, so that means they're going to be playing for
- 5:19Speaker 1: seventh place in that event tomorrow. Let me also tell
- 5:23Speaker 1: you this, if they keep the bracket the way they
- 5:25Speaker 1: normally do it with the times, it's it's kind of
- 5:29Speaker 1: funny the way they do it.
- 5:31Speaker 3: The championship game.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Is the last game obviously of the tournament, and it
- 5:38Speaker 1: would be tomorrow night. But the next game is not
- 5:43Speaker 1: the third place game. At least it wasn't for years
- 5:46Speaker 1: and years. The next last game was the seventh place game,
- 5:51Speaker 1: and part of it was because the years they had
- 5:52Speaker 1: shamanat in the field, so because the logo, it was
- 5:56Speaker 1: a local And then they would play the third place
- 6:00Speaker 1: in the fifth place earlier in the day because those
- 6:01Speaker 1: teams could catch commercial flights off the island and get
- 6:05Speaker 1: out in time. I don't know that that's still the case,
- 6:08Speaker 1: but they would put that seventh game next to last,
- 6:10Speaker 1: they would play it later.
- 6:12Speaker 3: I don't know if that's the case with the brack
- 6:13Speaker 3: looking at it, and.
- 6:15Speaker 1: They may have changed it, especially with Shamana not in
- 6:17Speaker 1: the field anymore, so that may that may have changed it,
- 6:21Speaker 1: and it would have made sense if they did.
- 6:23Speaker 3: So.
- 6:23Speaker 2: I'm guessing they're going to play the loser of Iowa
- 6:26Speaker 2: State Dayton, which would be what's today, It would be
- 6:29Speaker 2: tomorrow at seven o'clock at night.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Okay, yes, that is correct, all right, tomorrow at seven o'clock.
- 6:39Speaker 3: M Okay.
- 6:40Speaker 1: That sounds like the next to last game, is what
- 6:42Speaker 1: it sounds like. Yeah, that would be the seventh place game.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Yes, actually, well hold on twenty seven, seven pm. Yeah,
- 6:55Speaker 2: that actually might be the very last game, Craig. Yeah,
- 6:57Speaker 2: they've done it that way before too. It looks like
- 6:59Speaker 2: it's the very last game of the tournament.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Yep. That's what they used to do. The championship game
- 7:05Speaker 3: is at five pm. Yep. That makes sense.
- 7:10Speaker 1: That makes sense because again, teams that play in that
- 7:14Speaker 1: deal have a chance to get out that night, like
- 7:17Speaker 1: the Red Eye or whatever. But if you play in
- 7:20Speaker 1: that seventh place game, and that started because of having
- 7:22Speaker 1: Shamanad in it, they were a local so you only
- 7:24Speaker 1: had to worry about one team, and they knew Shamana
- 7:26Speaker 1: would always be in that game, although they weren't always
- 7:28Speaker 1: in that game. The biggest upset in college basketball history
- 7:32Speaker 1: happened in that tournament. Actually it wasn't in that tournament
- 7:36Speaker 1: was over in Maui, I mean over on the mainland
- 7:38Speaker 1: when shaman I beat the number one team of the country,
- 7:40Speaker 1: Virginia with Ralph Sampson. That was that was amazing that
- 7:45Speaker 1: that happened. But I remember also when they beat Texas
- 7:50Speaker 1: long words too lost to meause I think that was
- 7:52Speaker 1: twenty ten or twenty eleven, twenty twelve, twenty twelve was
- 7:56Speaker 1: when they played in that thing.
- 7:57Speaker 3: It was Yeah, it was not good.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Remember looking at it on the ESPN app and Shamana
- 8:02Speaker 2: didn't even have a link on ESPN dot com and thought,
- 8:05Speaker 2: uh oh, this isn't good.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Yeah, what's not good? How about from Arthur Kaluma, here's
- 8:13Speaker 1: something Arthur was asked about playing, you know, a road game.
- 8:20Speaker 1: It's almost like a true road game playing Syracuse because
- 8:24Speaker 1: they had and we were both there, so they had
- 8:26Speaker 1: they had their band there, they had fans there. Did
- 8:29Speaker 1: it help the team prepare for a pro QS crowd
- 8:36Speaker 1: helped the team in terms of preparing what they might
- 8:39Speaker 1: see from ukon Man?
- 8:40Speaker 3: Well, first and foremost.
- 8:42Speaker 6: We treat all competition the same, all teams the same,
- 8:45Speaker 6: but those are big time games we really want to win.
- 8:49Speaker 6: And if feel like the team level of preparation has
- 8:52Speaker 6: been at a very high level, and that obviously makes
- 8:55Speaker 6: us closer together, and we just got to go out
- 8:58Speaker 6: there on the court there and do act every day.
- 9:01Speaker 3: All right.
- 9:01Speaker 1: We'll hear some more from those guys coming up tomorrow
- 9:04Speaker 1: and some more from Vick Schaffer as well. We'll be
- 9:05Speaker 1: back to wrap up today's program here on Sports Radio
- 9:07Speaker 1: AM thirteen under the Zone.
